1. Animation Studios
• Pixar
• Madhouse Studios
Live Action Studios:
• Lionsgate
• 20th Century Fox
Classification:
• BBFC
2. 20th Century Fox is a film corporation which is one of the major American film studios. The institution was
founded in 1935 and has earned its name as one of the most notorious film institutions in the world. the
studio is a subsidiary of News Corporation, the media conglomerate owned by the very own - Rupert
Murdoch.
20TH Century Fox are well known for producing Comedy/Family movies such as Alvin and the Chipmunks,
Night at the Museum, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid, but, they have produced and distributed their fair share of
horror movies, such as:
• Jennifer's Body (Distributors),
• Shutter (Distributers),
• Alien (Produced).
• X Men: Days of Future Past
We would use 20th Century Fox to distribute our opening sequence because it’s popular which means it would
get more recognition thus attracting a wider audience. This would probably be the only reason because they
hardly produce/distribute films of our preferred genre.
3. Lionsgate is a Canadian entertainment company, formed in Vancouver, but it is located in California. Since
2007, Lionsgate has been the most successful independent film and television distribution company in North
America.
Lionsgate’s History:
• Kick Ass(Distributors),
• Religulous(Distributors),
• Forbidden Kingdom(Distributors),
• Rambo(Producers & Distributors),
• and The Bank Job(Distributors).
The genres they prefer to produce or distributed are Drama, Action and Thrillers, which is good for us
because our genre is Thriller, which would make Lionsgate a good candidate for who our film is going to be
produced/distributed by.
4. MADHOUSE Inc. is a Japanese animation studio, founded in 1972 by animators Masao Maruyama, Osamu
Dezaki, Rintaro, and Yoshiaki Kawajiri. Its partly owned by Sony Pictures, and mostly owned by Nippon
Television.
Because our final opening sequence is going to be both animated and live action, I researched animation
studios as well.
I found that Madhouse Studios has produced many anime shows including Death Parade, and Hunter x
Hunter, and also the iconic film: The Girl who Leapt Through Time.
Madhouse hasn’t particularly stated the type of movies/shows they produce, but from my knowledge of
being an avid watcher of the institutions works, I can determine that they definitely like to produce
tragedies, dark fantasies, horror, and thrillers.
I would pick Madhouse to produce our final sequence because they have experience in making thrillers,
with tragedy, which is what we’re trying to convey in our final opening sequence.
5. Pixar was established as an independent company bought by Steve Jobs from George Lucas in 1986. Pixar is
a studio that specialises in animation. Pixar would be considered one of the most successful animation studio
in the world because it has so many prestigious awards.
Before 2004, Pixar was responsible for production and creation, while Disney handled the profits and
distribution, but Pixar has since scrapped Disney as their distributors.
A reason why we would most probably not use Pixar to produce our film is because of the genre they usually
produce, which are:
• Family
• Comedy
• Adventure
• Fantasy
These genres aren’t the ones that we’re trying to convey in our final opening sequence.
6. What do they do?
The BBFC classify movies for protection of children and to empower adults that have children. By classifying
movies, the BBFC enable people who watch films to watch movies of their preference based on the level of
triggers there are.
How do they do this?
Their classifications are based on age, and go as the following:
U – Suitable for everyone
PG – Parental Guidance
12A – Cinema release for 12 and over
12 – Video release for 12 years and over
15 – Suitable for only 15 years and older
18 – Suitable for only adults
Because of our age, we will aim to make our final sequence at least a 15, so that way it covers our target
audience as well (which are 15-24 year olds, preferably students).
