Primary and secondary audiences
Secondary:
This is the typical male version of my secondary audience, his
age would be around 12-25. He may not have of seen the
other Star Wars films but he would of heard of famous
characters like Darth Vader. The parts of the filmthat would
appeal to this person would be the action scenes as they
would be more interested in seeing action than watching the
scenes that are iconic to Star Wars. On the uses of
gratification by Blumler and Katz in 1974 this person would be
looking for diversion whilst they watch the filmas they would want entertainment from the
film. They would also be likely to form a personal relationship with Finn as they would relate
to the fact that he is a young male character who has some funny moments such as the
thumbs up scene with BB-8. On the trailer they would be enticed by the robots such as BB-8
and R2-D2 because they would bring enjoyment to them which will help to bring them
diversion.
This is the typical female version of my secondary audience,
they would also have a similar age range as the male version
of the secondary audience. They similarly might not have
seen all the previous Star Wars films but would be familiar
with the franchise. The parts of the film that would appeal to
them would be also the action scenes and they would be
interested in female characters like Rey and Princess Leia.
The trailer would attract them by the introduction of the new
character Rey as they might feel like they can relate to her which would make them
want to know more about her resulting in them watching the film. These people
would watch the filmfor diversion and might also form a personal relationship with
Rey or another character.
Primary:
This is the typical male version of my primary
audience, his typical age would be around 30-60 and
he would be likely to have seen all the other Star Wars
films, because he has seen the other films it would
bring him nostalgia when watching the new films as
he would recognise characters and would have of
formed a personal relationship with them. Parts of the

film that would appeal to them would be iconic moments to Star Wars for example
the Millennium Falcon making a return and also they would be enticed by the tie
fighters. The parts of the trailer that would make them watch the film are seeing Han
Solo and Chewbacca when Han Solo says “It’s true, all of it” as they would know that
he is talking about the previous films. These people would relate to characters like
Luke Skywalker and Han Solo as they would have watched them when they were
young so they would have formed a personal relationship with these characters. This
group of people would be more likely to spend money on merchandise as they
would have more disposable income and they might even spend money on
merchandise for the secondary audience for Christmas or birthday presents.
This is my average female version of my primary
audience, these people similarly would have seen the
Star Wars films but may not be as big of fans as the males
as when they would have watched them the films were
more aimed at males than females as there were no
leading roles for females until the force awakens with the
introduction of the character Rey. The parts of the film
that would appeal to them would also be iconic scenes
for the same reasons and a part of the trailer that would
appeal to them would be when Han Solo and Princess Leia hug as it shows they see
each other at some point which will interest fans. This group of people would also be
more likely to spend more on merchandise for the same reasons as the male primary
audience for the same reason.
