2. WHAT DOES A PRODUCTION COMPANY
DO?
A production company fills a vital role by distributing and organising the film. They often
control and oversee so many aspects including :
Being in charge of wellbeing of all staff involved is yet another responsibility of a production
company. Due to their huge involvement in the film it is vital that we find a suitable company
to aid us in making our film the best it can be.
Production companies are usually part of conglomerates which means they are often partnered
with other production companies in order to have the funds to be able to do a good job.
However, larger and more well known names, such as 20th century fox, are much more
independent and as a result have most of the say in regards to the film.

• Scheduling
• Scripting
• Casting
3. DARK CASTLE ENTERTAINMENT
Dark Castle Entertainment is an film production label, it is a division of Silver Pictures, a
production house formally affiliated with Warner Bros., now affiliated with Universal
Studios. It was formed in 1999 by Joel Silver, Robert Zemeckis, and Gilbert Adler. The
fact that it is attached with these well credited production companies suggests it
quality. It has been running for 18 years and offers the experience we wanted for our
film. Also their opening sequence is specifically fitted to our genre and we believed it
sets the tone for the movie to follow.
4. OUR PRODUCTION COMPANY NAME
AND LOGO
Our company name was created due to our hair colour. Two of the
members have red hair and one is brunette. Merging the two together it
creates bringer (brunette and ginger). We thought this was extremely
original and appeals to who we are. After people started talking about
our name we realised they were pronouncing it differently to how we
first thought. We could have changed the name at that point but the
‘bring-er’ pronunciation had an appeal to it as it was similar to the
phrase ‘bring it on’ which definitely reflects our ideology.
In terms of our logo we decided to re-design it half way through our
film. After receiving feedback we decided it was too dull and simple.
Using Photoshop I still incorporated the film reel as it was retro and
made it obvious to what we did as a company. Our new logo (bottom
image) is much more professional and is very bold in order to let our
name be seen.
5. FILM DISTRIBUTER
A film distributor is responsible for marketing a film. The distribution company usually differs
from the production company. However the production company needs to consider the
funding of the distribution when producing the film. The distributors do things like setting a
release date of a film and making sure it is hasn’t got any rivalry which could effect sales. They
also control how it is viewed by the public, e.g. via DVD or if it should be available on sky
demand at any point. When researching distribution companies who have dealt with our genre
20th Century Fox and Paramount were the obvious candidates. They both had successfully
marked thrillers before and both were once again well known a credible. After deliberation we
decided that 20th century fox would be the better company to get our film known. They
seemed to be slightly more successful than paramount within recent releases such as Gone Girl
and Taken.
6. HOW WILL WE RAISE THE MONEY?
Kickstarter is a public-benefit corporation that maintains a global
crowdfunding platform focused on creativity. The company's stated
mission is to "help bring creative projects to life". Kickstarter has
reportedly received more than $1.9 billion in pledges from 9.4 million
backers to fund 257,000 creative projects, such as films, music, stage
shows, comics, journalism, video games, technology and food-related
projects.
This makes Kickstarter ideal for as it is made for the very purpose of
creative projects such as a thriller film. It will allow us to make our film
look more professional as we will be able to create a more realistic
atmosphere due to the extra money we have to play with. I am
confident we would receive funds as companies are growing in
popularity and more and more investors see it as a chance to gain
reward.
7. TITLES
o The first title is the Dark Castle production company sequence.
o This is followed by our own title sequence.
o Then the ‘starring’ followed by the actors names
o Continued with ‘produced by’ and the producer
o Finally, ‘filmed by’ and the director.
8. COMPARISONS
We were inspired by a film we had watched about two weeks prior to planning
our thriller. Don’t Breath , is a film about a blind man who kidnaps his daughters
killer. We drew the blind factor from this as we found eyes were extremely
venerable and close ups in this film were very effective. As a result don’t breathe
is similar to our thriller with the blind aspect.
However, due to the psychological theme to our thriller it lead to it having
similarities to films such as The Visit and Insidious. As these both linked in with
our mentally ill character featured in our movie. We also took inspiration from
saw in regard to the unsettling gory scenes. Our whole aim was to make the
audience feel on edge and by joining the eye aspect with gore I believe we
fulfilled this aim.
9. SELLING POINT
Our main selling point of our film is the mystery involved. As it is a
psychological/horror/thriller there had to have an aspect of questioning done by the
audience so by leaving the murders details in the film very vague it meant the audience
could torment themselves as to what happened.
Globally, our film would sell due to its relatability. The idea of a best friend being killed is
imaginable to everyone who has a friend. Also the genre is worldwide. Horror films are
loved by all adrenaline hunters. The idea of fear is attractive to many when in the cinema
and our film appeals to the idea ‘are you brave enough?’.
10. NETFLIX
The film distributor Netflix is becoming one of the most popular ways to watch films.
It allows people to watch films from the comfort of their home or on the train home
from work. This accessibility is very attractive to film lovers.
Putting our thriller on Netflix would release to a massive amount of people. It would
make our film not to hard to view and overall get it out into a larger audience. There
is however a large range of films on Netflix so I would worry that it may get lost in
the pure amount of thrillers and horrors available on the site. Despite this all it takes
is for one person to spread the word and Blind Fear could make millions.
