Finding a client…
Finding a client was actually fairly easy. I had Harriet's clothing in mind from day
one I got told about this task. However, I still applied to other places such as the
Ritz Cinema in Thirsk, Arabica in Thirsk (I actually went in and spoke to them but
they were not interested) and I obviously spoke to Harriets Clothing. Ritz
Cinema never got back to me. I couldn’t find their email so I had to send in this
email on their website. I also couldn’t find an email to Harriets head office (in
Otley) so I had to ring up and I got hold of the manager then we since then we
have been emailing and having phone conversation regarding the work. I have
always been interested in fashion, so having this opportunity was great for me.
Working with Harriets was exactly what I wanted and I knew I had to do my
best to achieve the best.
Finding a Client
Trying to get in contact
with Ritz Cinema. This
was the only way I
could get them to
contact me. I tried to
ring them but however,
they didn’t answer.

Creating the work
• Creating the work was challenging at times. The thing I
struggled with the most was drawing on the models face and
features. I kept getting the shadowing, nose and mouth wrong.
I got help from on of my teachers and also other people doing a
similar project to me and they helped me put it right. The rest
of the work was great and everything else worked out
perfectly. Finding colours and font was not a problem at all,
already had colours in my head and how to use them so I had a
rough idea of what I was doing.
Creating the work
• I took 44 images of my model to ensure I had enough images to
choose from.
• All those images will have something different about them, either
poses or different clothes.
• I only did two sessions at the studio and the model was free of charge,
she wanted the images for her portfolio.
• I had a list of poses the model she can do so I had a rough idea of what
she should do and this helped a lot because all she had to do was copy
what I was showing her. So this made the photography task a lot
easier for both me and the model.
First poster
• This was my first
poster and I liked it
however, I didn’t like
her facial expression
so much. I felt like it
didn’t fit together
well.
Second Poster
• This was my
second attempt
and once again I
had the same
issue with the
facial features. I
also didn’t like the
colours.
Third Poster
• This once is my final
attempt and my best
attempt. I found the
right colours and I
like her facial
features in it.
Communication between me and my client
• This was straight after our first or second phone
conversation. She seemed so interested in what I
had to offer and she also liked the fact that it was
for free.
Communication between me and my client
• I then went onto sending her a link of my portfolio
and everything I have done in the past.
Communication between me and my client
• In our phone conversations we discussed basic
information like what sort of style she wanted,
what paper size, why the event was being held
etc... So I emailed her to find out more.
Communication between me and my client
• Then she
emailed me and
let me know that
she only wanted
on product
doing and then
later on we had a
phone
conversation
where she told
me if I make one
product she will
resize it to then
create change
the sizes if she
needed too.
Communication between me and
my client / Treatment
• Later on in the project
when I got my ideas
together, I put them all
in a slideshow and sent
it to her and her
reaction was positive.
She seemed to like
everything I have
come up with and she
seemed excited to see
my final product.
Showing my client my work as I'm
going along…
• As I was going
along, I made
sure to keep her
updated with
how everything
was going. I did
this either by
phone or email
and she seemed
impressed and
we never had a
problem.
Getting feedback as I go
along…
• In one of the previous slides, you can see clearly where I email my client showing
her the work I have done so far to see if she's happy with it. I also asked people
around me from college as to what they think about my work so far. They had a lot
of ideas and things to say which helped me improve my final piece of work.
• It was great having people and my client look at my work as I go along. I was
starring at my work for too long and I felt it didn’t look right even though it looked
fine to everyone else. So they helped me understand that by starring at my work
for too long, you started to overthink every so much. So therefore, now and then I
needed to take my eyes away form the computer for a bit because I felt like I was
thinking too much into my product.
Final piece
• I finally sent her the final
product in a PNG form on the
24th of May.
Final Feedback
• This was my final feedback from my client. She was very pleased with the final piece
and when I phoned her she said that if she needs future work doing that she will
contact me.
• It was great receiving this feedback because I've put so much time and effort into
the work I created for her.
Legal (copyright), regulatory
(ASA) and financial perspective.
• Legal rights that I had to conceder were things such as copyright. I had to
make sure my font was copyright free, the images were mine and that
everything I used was original or copyright free. The thing I struggled with
was the font but after hours of searching, I finally found the right font which
was copyright free on a website called DaFont.com.
• I searched up the ASA regulations regarding fashion and fashion shops and
there was nothing that I found. I am not advertising the company’s clothing
or putting misleading prices, I am simply advertising an event they are having
and pointing out the event’s ticket price. So therefor, I had the freedom of
being creative with my products.
• I had no financial problems at all. At the start of the project I was worried
about having to pay my model to be able to capture the images but that soon
cleared up when I found the right model who did it free of charge. All the
equipment I used were also free of charge because I borrowed them from
college.
Phone Conversations
This is only one of the many conversations I
have had on the phone to my client. I have had
around 10 phone calls with my client overall.
Most of them were at the beginning and while I
was creating the work for my client because
that’s how I got feedback from her.
I found that our phone calls helped us build our
relations as work colleagues. Even though I
never met her, I felt like I had met her. It made
me more comfortable to talk to her and it felt
more realistic because I actually got to speak to
her other than just emailing each other.
Having phone conversations also helped
improved my confidence over the phone. I
didn’t sound as nervous over the phone
anymore.
Working with my client
• Working with my client has been great and I was lucky enough to have a
client who gave me loads of freedom to develop my own ideas and create
them. She set some guidelines and showed me previous poster for the
same event which helped me create my own guidelines and I knew what
information had to be on it.
• We had a few phone conversation where we discussed work, had a bit of a
chat to help us get to know each other more and I learnt more about my
client’s company.
• Working with my client has helped me understand what it’s like to work for
someone and know what they are require from you. It showed me that they
are nice clients and that from producing other work for clients, you learn
new skills because you're constantly experimenting and testing to see what
you are capable of.
Time Management and
Personnel
• I believe I managed my time very well. I knew what I had to do at what time and how long for. The plan I had
in mind at the start for my time management is very similar to how my final time plan actually worked out to
be.
• I had to find a model which wasn’t very hard because I knew a lot of girls who wanted to model and use the
photos for their portfolio. So finding the right model only took me a couple of hours which I did in my own
time when I wasn’t working on the project.
• I use the studio 3 times to take different images. I took the first patch of pictures on the first Monday of the
first week of production, once I put the images on the computer I knew straight away I had to take more
because a lot of the pictures looked identical. The second patch of images I took on the Tuesday of the first
week of production and then the last patch of images I took on the Thursday of the first week of production.
For within the first week, I took more images that what I needed but it meant I had a lot of images to choose
from.
• Because I did all my photography and editing work in the first week, I had two weeks to create different
flyers and posters. I did 3 different designs in the space of those two weeks. They were all very similar but
used different colours and positioned things differently. All 3 designs were very good in my eyes which
makes me feel that I have managed my time well.
The brief
• This was my brief, she showed me the poster that had already been
created for the same event. Later on we had a phone conversation
and she said the flyer I create will be used for a poster so to make sure
I can resize the flyer. I believe I have approached my brief very well
and completed it at the level she wanted.
Managing the project
• I managed the project fairly well. I struggled with
finding a font and it took a while but I found the
right font eventually.
• I also struggled with drawing the model’s face on
which took me a while to create but once I created
it, it looked great.
• The rest of the project I managed really well and I
didn’t really have many problems at all.
Achievement
• I achieved a lot of new skills and I have over come a lot of things that
I was worried about.
- I am now confident in talking over the phone
- My Photoshop skills have improved (rotoscope)
- I now have experience with dealing with a client and I know what a
good brief/client looks like.
- I know how to overcome problems and who to seek help from.
- I am more aware of what colours go with what colours.
And so much more. Learning and improving all those skills will help me
with future tasks.
Future Tasks
• This project has helped me prepare for my next task
with my future client/s. I know what to expect and
what to look for in a brief.
• I believe in myself now that I am capable of
completing a set task on time and at the level the
client wants.
• I am ready to take on my next client and start my new
task and I am now looking forward to accomplishing
more tasks and learning/improving my skills.

It made me more comfortable to talk to her and it felt more realistic because I actually got to speak to her other than just emailing each other. Having phone conversations also helped improved my confidence over the phone. I didn’t sound as nervous over the phone anymore.
  • 21. Working with my client • Working with my client has been great and I was lucky enough to have a client who gave me loads of freedom to develop my own ideas and create them. She set some guidelines and showed me previous poster for the same event which helped me create my own guidelines and I knew what information had to be on it. • We had a few phone conversation where we discussed work, had a bit of a chat to help us get to know each other more and I learnt more about my client’s company. • Working with my client has helped me understand what it’s like to work for someone and know what they are require from you. It showed me that they are nice clients and that from producing other work for clients, you learn new skills because you're constantly experimenting and testing to see what you are capable of.
  • 22. Time Management and Personnel • I believe I managed my time very well. I knew what I had to do at what time and how long for. The plan I had in mind at the start for my time management is very similar to how my final time plan actually worked out to be. • I had to find a model which wasn’t very hard because I knew a lot of girls who wanted to model and use the photos for their portfolio. So finding the right model only took me a couple of hours which I did in my own time when I wasn’t working on the project. • I use the studio 3 times to take different images. I took the first patch of pictures on the first Monday of the first week of production, once I put the images on the computer I knew straight away I had to take more because a lot of the pictures looked identical. The second patch of images I took on the Tuesday of the first week of production and then the last patch of images I took on the Thursday of the first week of production. For within the first week, I took more images that what I needed but it meant I had a lot of images to choose from. • Because I did all my photography and editing work in the first week, I had two weeks to create different flyers and posters. I did 3 different designs in the space of those two weeks. They were all very similar but used different colours and positioned things differently. All 3 designs were very good in my eyes which makes me feel that I have managed my time well.
  • 23. The brief • This was my brief, she showed me the poster that had already been created for the same event. Later on we had a phone conversation and she said the flyer I create will be used for a poster so to make sure I can resize the flyer. I believe I have approached my brief very well and completed it at the level she wanted.
  • 24. Managing the project • I managed the project fairly well. I struggled with finding a font and it took a while but I found the right font eventually. • I also struggled with drawing the model’s face on which took me a while to create but once I created it, it looked great. • The rest of the project I managed really well and I didn’t really have many problems at all.
  • 25. Achievement • I achieved a lot of new skills and I have over come a lot of things that I was worried about. - I am now confident in talking over the phone - My Photoshop skills have improved (rotoscope) - I now have experience with dealing with a client and I know what a good brief/client looks like. - I know how to overcome problems and who to seek help from. - I am more aware of what colours go with what colours. And so much more. Learning and improving all those skills will help me with future tasks.
  • 26. Future Tasks • This project has helped me prepare for my next task with my future client/s. I know what to expect and what to look for in a brief. • I believe in myself now that I am capable of completing a set task on time and at the level the client wants. • I am ready to take on my next client and start my new task and I am now looking forward to accomplishing more tasks and learning/improving my skills.
