Mind Maps/Brainstorms
• Die cutting and a fold over flyer. - The die cut would be of a model
walking down a runaway. The writing would be on the inside of the flyer.
• Use pastel colours, Find the right colour to make it look elegant and
classy.
• Find the right font to attract the girl’s attention. Make it look
professional not cheap.
• Use a good quality paper for the print out (demo).
• Use the company’s logo.
Assessing ideas
Now you have generated lots of potential ideas, it is
time to rationalise those against the requirements of
the brief from your client.
Use the next few slides to consolidate your ideas and
then assess them against the requirements and
constraints of the project.
Finally, select an idea to take forward for further
development.
Idea 1
My first idea is very simple but it will all depend on whether I can find the
right people to do it or not. I will need to hire out a model and a makeup
artist. They may cost me money but they may not, they might ask in return
if they can have copy of the work for their portfolio. The model’s rule will
be to model and try on different clothes. The makeup artist’s role to do the
model’s makeup in a elegant and a professional way. I want the model to
pretend she’s on a runaway so when I capture the images she will be doing
different poses. After that, I can either go on to edit the model’s images or I
can just simply rotoscope it on Photoshop to make it look like a digital
painted model. The writing can go around the model, using a good font that
will stand out. I will search online for different fonts and look on the clothes
shop’s website to see what font they have used and decide on that. I will
also use feminine colours, not to discriminate against men but the company
is aiming this fashion show at girls, so therefor, pinks and purples will be
good colours to use. I will look more into existing fashion show posters and
see what colours they have used. I am aware of my client’s target audience
so I will now which style is more suitable.
This event is a charity event, so I will state exactly what will be at the event,
the costs and all the basic information. I will use a different font for all the
information so it’s doesn’t look like there is so much writing on the flyer.

Evaluation of idea
• What do you like about the idea?
I like this idea because we can the audience what to expect the model’s to look like
and to know what to expect from the models. Showing the audience what the models
may look like can persuade them to go actually go because they will want to see what
the model’s look like in person.
• Does it match what the client wants?
The client never actually said what style she wants. For me to find out whether she's
okay or not, I can send her the idea and a demo and get some feedback off her.
• Are you capable of delivering this? Can you do this on time?
I believe I can deliver this idea to a high standard by the deadline.
• Do you have the resources available to do this?
I have all the resources I need. However, I will need to find a model and a makeup
artist.
Idea 2
My second idea is a it more complicated because some of the jobs that
are required, I am not capable of doing them. So for my next idea, I
wanted to draw out a model walking down the runaway and then put it
on Photoshop. I can either leave it as a drawing, let the audience keep
guessing of what clothes will be at the fashion show and what the
models will look like, or I can rotoscope it and make it look like a
painting. The issue I may have with this idea is that I can’t draw,
therefor, I will need to find someone to who can draw who will want to
do this for me. It may cost me, it may not, depending on who the
person is and if I do know them personally or not. I would like the
image to be pretty details, (facial features etc…) so it almost looks like a
drawing of someone. I will need to find a font that would suit the type
of style I do for, whether it’s the drawing or making it look like a
painting, I will need to find the right font to go alongside the art work. I
don’t want a font that is too bold and big because then it would over-
rule the artwork. I will have a look on the client’s website, see what
fonts they use for what then I will go from there. Colour wise, I will
need to research more into that. I will see what colour goes the best
with artwork and fashion. I will then look into ways which will make
the text look interesting so it doesn’t look boring and as if im listing all
the information. Looks like a
painting
but it isn't.
Drawings
Evaluation of idea
• What do you like about the idea?
It’s very different to anything I have done before, it’s helping me get out of my comfort
zone and experiment with different styles and even meet new people.
• Does it match what the client wants?
My client hasn’t gave me a preference of style but personally, I think she will like it
because it will look very elegant but simple. If I use the right colours and the right font,
it could turn into something really good and the overall piece of product will look
professional and I think my client will be pleased with it.
• Are you capable of delivering this? Can you do this on time?
If I can find a artist who will draw out the model for me then yes I will be able to
deliver it. I will be able to also deliver it before the deadline so if my client wants
anything improving then I will have time to improve the areas she don’t like.
• Do you have the resources available to do this?
The only resources I really need for this are things such as a computer, a scanner and
Photoshop. The rest of the resources will be provided y the artist when they draw out
the model.
Idea 3
This is a bit similar to idea 1. I still need a makeup artist, a model and a
studio. However, this is different because I'm not making the model look as if
she is already on a fashion shoot or a runway, I'm getting a close up of her top
half body or a close up of her face. I can the go on to edit the images so it has
a filter over it or I can rotoscope it and make it look almost like a cartoon
character. Working around a close up image could be a bit tricky and I might
struggle with where to put all the writing. However if I do enough research, I
will eventually find the right font which will go with the image smoothly.
Finding the right colours will also be a challenge, I will need to find the right
colours for rotoscope, I will look at existing rotoscope posters that are out
there and I will see what colours they have used. I have a slight idea of what it
should look overall so I will work towards the target I have in my head. I will
make sure to include the client’s logo on the posters and the flyers. The client
said to me that the posters and the flyers don’t have to be the same so
therefor, I will do different designs for the poster and for the flyers.

Evaluation of idea
• What do you like about the idea?
It’s something I have done before so I know exactly what I'm doing. It will be easy and
simple for me to complete this task. However, what I like about this, it gives me time
to experiment with new tools on Photoshop and see what I can achieve.
• Does it match what the client wants?
My client never told me what she wanted, however she sent me a copy of a previous
poster. From looking at the poster she sent me, I can see that she will be interested in
my poster because the styles of both posters are similar.
• Are you capable of delivering this? Can you do this on time?
I am. The only thing I may struggle with is capturing the right angle of the model so
she looks good and I can put the writing around her rather than on her face. I believe I
can deliver this at a high standard on time.
• Do you have the resources available to do this?
Yes I do. I have all the resources I need including the computer, camera and software.
Only thing I need now is a model and a makeup artist.
Idea 4
This idea is very different. It’s something I have never done before and I've had to do some research into
how to do it. This is called a ‘die cut out’ and it’s where the top layer will have a cut out and you will be able
to see parts of the bottom layer through the top layer. This will mean that my flyer will have to be folded
over which is something I'm okay with. The top layer will have a cut out of a model walking then once you
open up the flyer, all the information you need to know about the event will be inside the flyer. The most
common colours for die cut outs is creams, whites and pinks. I will need to design this very carefully to make
sure it all goes to plan. Due to not knowing much about die cut outs, I might go and seek help from someone
who has done it before or is a bit more professional. As any of my other ideas, I will still look at fonts and
what I can put on the bottom and the top page to grab the readers attention.
Evaluation of idea
• What do you like about the idea?
It’s different and it also helps me develop new skills, it will be a type of product which I have
never ever done before. To me it will be both experience and excitement.
• Does it match what the client wants?
I am not entirely sure. The poster my client sent me is nothing like that idea at all. I also
don’t think it will be very suitable for a poster or a flyer because this will have to be opened
up to be able to view the information of the event.
• Are you capable of delivering this?
I am not entirely sure, I am not entirely sure how to start or what the procedure is so I will
need to look more into it and seek someone who has done this before for help.
• Can you do this on time?
Once again, I am not entirely sure because I don’t know the procedure and I will need
someone else’s help to deliver this on time at a high standard.
• Do you have the resources available to do this?
I will be working at college and I believe they have all the resources I need.
Idea 5
This idea is very different to all the other ideas. It’s will
not involve any models, it will only involve shapes and
objects. I will use the shapes and objects to create
something to do with fashion, whether it’s a dress, a
top or even some jeans. I will then put the content
around the object/shapes and work around it. this
could be fun because you will be able to tell the piece
of clothing from the shapes.
Evaluation of idea
• What do you like about the idea?
The idea is very simple, I know what I am doing and I know I am capable of doing
this.
• Does it match what the client wants?
I am not entirely sure. The poster my client sent me is nothing like this idea at all.
• Are you capable of delivering this?
I am. I know what I am doing and I know what designs I will put the shapes into.
• Can you do this on time?
Yes, it’s a very simple and easy task and I can deliver a few of different styles on
time.
• Do you have the resources available to do this?
All what I need is a computer, some paper, the internet and photoshop. I have all
of those things.
Idea Evaluation
Which of your ideas do you want to develop further?
Explain why you think that is the right idea to take
forward.
I think I am going to go ahead of idea number one. I
know exactly what I am doing and if I take enough
images I could even mix it in with idea 3. if I take
enough pictures, I will also be able to make different
posters and flyers using different styles. I think this is
a good idea because my client never told me what
style she liked or wanted. She sent me a existing
poster and she said she liked it but she wanted to see
what I am capable of. So this type of style between
idea 1 and idea 2 is the type of style she likes and it’s
the style of the previous poster. I don’t want to
completely go the opposite direction of the style
because I don’t want to spend loads of time on a
project, for her to not like it in the end. I think playing
it safe and using a similar style to the client’s previous
poster is a good idea.
Existing Poster
Development
Use the next slides to document your idea development.
This should include mood boards and other visual examples of work. It
could include basic mock ups of your vision for the project using the
work of others.
If you are taking doing something outside of your ordinary skill set or
way of working, you could include test work or practice work here too.
There is room to develop a second idea here as well. This could give
you a greater variety of options to give to your client.
You will then assess your developed idea against the constraints of the
project before producing a final treatment.
Developed Idea 1
Developed Idea 1
The top images are the type of images I would like to
capture. I would like to capture the model in her
nature mood, almost candid pictures. However, I would
also like to capture her looking at the camera,
modelling in the clothes with a serious face. I might
hire out a fan so when I capture her walking down the
corridor her hair can be blown. It would help her feel
more in place because she will feel like she is on a real
runaway but it would also help me get a better image.
In the middle, are some of the fonts I am interested in.
I don’t like the font that was used on the client’s
existing poster so I would like to change it. I will also
use different fonts for different parts of the work for
example, the title will be a different font to the details
of the event. At the bottom right corner is some
colours that I will use. I went onto doing some research
with the most popular colours when it comes to
fashion and women. I got 2 different Pantone palettes,
this gives me a lot of colours to choose from. So once I
have captured enough images of the models, I can
then go onto finding the right font and the right
colours for the posters and the flyers.
I will make sure I am following my time management
sheet so I don’t fall behind or be too ahead.
Developed Idea 1

Developed Idea 2
Developed Idea 2
The top images are the type of images I would like to
draw. However, since I cant draw, I will have to hire
someone to draw these for me. I would like the model
to be drawn in her nature mood, like she is just walking
down a runway or about to start walking. I would also
like drawings of the model from her side. Once I am
happy with the drawing’s I have, I will put them on the
computer and edit them.
In the middle, are some of the fonts I am interested in.
I don’t like the font that was used on the client’s
existing poster so I would like to change it. I will also
use different fonts for different parts of the work for
example, the title will be a different font to the details
of the event.
At the bottom right corner is some colours that I will
use. I went onto doing some research with the most
popular colours when it comes to fashion and women.
I got 2 different Pantone palettes, this gives me a lot of
colours to choose from. The colours have to look like
they are a bit oily so I will have to go on Photoshop and
put like an oil texture on top so they look a bit more
realistic.
Developed Idea 2
Assessment of final ideas
Suitable for audience?
I believe it is suitable for the audience. Harriet’s try to deliver all their products at a very high standard
using high trained staff. The poster and the flyer will be delivered at a high standard and I will put all my
effort into those products. I am not offending anyone by my posters and I am making sure that the model
sign’s a release form.
Suitability for client?
Development idea 1 will be used for the posters and development idea 2 will be used for the flyers. The
client showed me some of the previous work that ahs been done for her but she never asked me to do a
similar style. Therefor, I have changed the style around a bit, which is a bit risky in case she doesn’t like it
and that is why I will be sending her screenshots of my work as I go along so I can get some feedback on
the work. Personally, I think she will approve of it.
Appeal of the work:
It will appeal to the audience because I will use the latest fashionable colours which will then attract the
right audience. It will also appeal to the audience because it states clearly why the fashion show is being
held and some people will be very happy to be part of a big community who are willing to help those in
need.
Timescales for production:
I have 2 weeks of planning what and how I will deliver these products to the client. In those two weeks I
will do different mock ups of flyers and posters. I will also look at existing fashion show posters to get a
rough idea of how my poster and flyer should look overall. I will need to find all the people I need in those
two weeks and sort out when I will be meeting them and when shoots will take place. I will then have 3
weeks to produce the work which includes taking pictures of the model and getting drawings done for me. I am
hoping by the first week of production, I will have a clear aim in my head of what I want my overall work to look
like.
Assessment of final ideas
Costs:
There shouldn’t be much costs for creating the pieces of work the client asked from me.
However, I will need to find a model and a makeup artist for the first development idea
which I will use to create the poster. However, the model and the artist may not cost me
anything because the images could be used towards their portfolio.
Personnel:
I will need to find someone to draw out the models for me for the development idea 2
which will then be used for the flyers.
Legal and ethical issues:
Copyright is something I need to avoid under all costs. I need to make sure all the images
are mine and that I have created my own piece of work rather than stealing someone
else’s. I will get sued for using copyright but my client could also get sued which will then
end up very badly.
Another issue I may face is discrimination, some people will be concerned how the
poster is all girly to attract females attention but not males.
Research
Competition/Market research:
My client doesn’t have any set competitors for a few reasons. One of those reasons being, they are
an Italian company and they have a lot of different brands which you don’t really find in lots of
places in England. They are well known by those who live around them and those who are
interesting in Italian clothing. They are based in Yorkshire, all their shops are in Yorkshire and around
that area. I have spoke to my client and asked her who her competitors were and she said she had
none, she isn’t fighting for a spot in the market with anyone. Harriet's try to provide affordable
clothes in the clothes market. However, she told me that all 4 of her shops were surrounded by
charity jobs. This could be an issue because sometimes charity shops have very good brands such as
Chanel which will be sold for cheap, maybe even cheaper than some of Harriet’s clothing.
https://www.facebook.com/harrietsclothing/reviews?ref=page_internal
The shop got 33 ratings of 5 star on Facebook and 1 rate of a 4 star. So over all, they have a really
good review on Facebook which is great, it helps new customers see that their clothes and quality is
good and worth buying.
Even though my Client doesn’t have competitors, I went onto doing some research and I found
more independent fashion business. The following are some independent clothes business that are
based around Harriet’s locations; Joseph Turner in Thirsk (both men and women’s clothes) and
Smashing Clothing in Molton (jewellery, clothes and bags). Those small independent business are
well know by people around them but they are not well known over all. There are bigger fashion
companies that are will known in the market. Bigger competitors will be business such as Topshop,
New look, H&M and more.
Competition/Market research:
What is their design/photography/marketing/promotional/advertising work like?
The website shows all the products my client are selling at the moment. They show the products either
worn by a model, displayed on a model or with a nice clear white background and then they show you the
price as well.
My client’s logo is very simple, it’s just ‘HarrietsClothing’ with a heart at the end.
They also display some posters around some of the areas that the shop is open
which is great because people can be more aware of them. They also have a
Facebook page which is very active, they respond to all good and bad comments
and any enquiries.
What wider market is your client part of? Undertake research in to that market. This could be in the form
of sales figures, audience figures, turnover, job roles, customer base, market share, rules, regulations and
codes of practice.
There is a lot of clothes shops but however, where Harriet’s is usually placed, there will usually only be
charity shops so the clothes will most likely not be brand new. So having Harriet’s open in the areas that
they are currently open in is really good because their clothes are brand new and it also offers people
around those areas jobs. All employers are trained to make sure they treat customers really well and know
how to overcome a unhappy customer.

Audience/Customer research:
Who is the audience or customer that your client is trying to reach? Perhaps they have
already told you. Perhaps you should ask. You could also do further research in to the
type of audience or customer you are hoping to appeal to.
“Harriet's is an independent Yorkshire based ladies fashion business now in its third generation of a
local family.
We stock both designer brands and high street ladies clothing, shoes and accessories following the
latest seasonal trends.
We offer customers exceptional value for money in our boutique shops across Yorkshire, our Ebay
store and now online. With new stock each week we are reactive to the latest trends and
fashions…”
When I spoke to my client, she said that the company was targeting people between 18 years to 60
years. That is a big jump, however, as a company they try their best to please all different ages. They
try to keep up with trends and fashion colours as well as stocking on elegant clothes for older ladies.
Targeting such different ages could be tricky but as a company they work together to achieve their
best. they want to target ladies and girls who want a different style and want to start a fashion
trend of their own.
The work I produce has to apply to that target age, it must be suitable for ages because then it will
be able to target everyone's eye that are interested in Italian clothing.
Content research:
This should take the form of secondary research (exiting products from your client and the
competition and wider market) and also some primary research (asking potential audience, your
client and your market,) to help you formalise the content of your project.
Primary:
I have gone onto asking my client about this event. Why it’s being held? What are they trying to
achieve? Etc.... I have found out that the event is being held to raise money and awareness for
Dementia and Alzheimer's patients. The event is a fashion show, there will be models wearing
Harriet's clothing walking up and down the runaway. I gathered some information about the event
and Harriet's themselves. I also understood what information I need to put on the products I'm
creating.
Secondary:
Secondary research follows onto the next slide. I looked at my
clients existing products to see the sort of clothes that will be
displayed in the fashion show. It helped me understand what
clothes to display on my poster. I show some of their existing
products as well as their logo and the poster that I am currently
competing with.

Treatment
I am going to hire out a model and get an outfit from your shop that she can wear and then I
will do two different shoots. I will do a shoot where she will be in a studio with a white
background and the I will do one outdoors with natural lighting rather than artificial lighting.
I will be taking the pictures myself and editing the myself as well. I will then put the images
onto my computer and edit them to give them a ‘cartoon look’. I will rotoscope them or I will
make them look like they have been digitally manipulated.
I will be using your logo and I have experimented with some fonts that go really well with
your logo’s font. I am going to use pastel and ‘girly’ colours such as baby pink, medium pink
and more trending colours. I have looked at some poses which will be great for the model to
use to help her feel more into place and feel like she is really on the runaway.
The flyer and the poster will be two different designs but there wont be a major difference
between both of them. I will use the same model and the same image but I will edit it
differently. I will use different colours on the poster and different colours on the flyer and
the poster will be A3 size and the flyer will be A5.
On the flyer I will have all the main details such as price, time, date, place etc… and on the
poster I will have all those details and I will go on to say that the event is being held to raise
money and awareness for Alzheimer’s and Dementia.
Treatment (visual elements)
Treatment (visual elements)
These are simple mock ups to show you the style of editing I’m using. I am capable of
much more than this and please don’t expect the final product to look like this, it will
look much better.
Timescales:
You should prepare a production schedule that will allow you to manage your time over
the 3 weeks of production. This should include:
• Deadlines: Interim deadlines help you keep on track, final deadlines are final.
• Availability: The availability of the client and any other people you may need to help
you with your project. You will need to contact them. You might to do visit. You may
need to liaise with models, or photographers.
• Feedback: This is a working brief with a real client. You will need to get feedback on
your work and also allow yourself time to make appropriate changes. Plan appropriate
time in to you schedule so that you can do this.
• Resources: You should include a list of resources that you will need to complete your
project. Remember that this all needs to be your own work

Client project lo2 brief

  • 1. Client Project Pro- Forma Swara Sawirs
  • 3. Mind Maps/Brainstorms • Die cutting and a fold over flyer. - The die cut would be of a model walking down a runaway. The writing would be on the inside of the flyer. • Use pastel colours, Find the right colour to make it look elegant and classy. • Find the right font to attract the girl’s attention. Make it look professional not cheap. • Use a good quality paper for the print out (demo). • Use the company’s logo.
  • 4. Assessing ideas Now you have generated lots of potential ideas, it is time to rationalise those against the requirements of the brief from your client. Use the next few slides to consolidate your ideas and then assess them against the requirements and constraints of the project. Finally, select an idea to take forward for further development.
  • 5. Idea 1 My first idea is very simple but it will all depend on whether I can find the right people to do it or not. I will need to hire out a model and a makeup artist. They may cost me money but they may not, they might ask in return if they can have copy of the work for their portfolio. The model’s rule will be to model and try on different clothes. The makeup artist’s role to do the model’s makeup in a elegant and a professional way. I want the model to pretend she’s on a runaway so when I capture the images she will be doing different poses. After that, I can either go on to edit the model’s images or I can just simply rotoscope it on Photoshop to make it look like a digital painted model. The writing can go around the model, using a good font that will stand out. I will search online for different fonts and look on the clothes shop’s website to see what font they have used and decide on that. I will also use feminine colours, not to discriminate against men but the company is aiming this fashion show at girls, so therefor, pinks and purples will be good colours to use. I will look more into existing fashion show posters and see what colours they have used. I am aware of my client’s target audience so I will now which style is more suitable. This event is a charity event, so I will state exactly what will be at the event, the costs and all the basic information. I will use a different font for all the information so it’s doesn’t look like there is so much writing on the flyer. Rotoscope Real image just edited slightly
  • 6. Evaluation of idea • What do you like about the idea? I like this idea because we can the audience what to expect the model’s to look like and to know what to expect from the models. Showing the audience what the models may look like can persuade them to go actually go because they will want to see what the model’s look like in person. • Does it match what the client wants? The client never actually said what style she wants. For me to find out whether she's okay or not, I can send her the idea and a demo and get some feedback off her. • Are you capable of delivering this? Can you do this on time? I believe I can deliver this idea to a high standard by the deadline. • Do you have the resources available to do this? I have all the resources I need. However, I will need to find a model and a makeup artist.
  • 7. Idea 2 My second idea is a it more complicated because some of the jobs that are required, I am not capable of doing them. So for my next idea, I wanted to draw out a model walking down the runaway and then put it on Photoshop. I can either leave it as a drawing, let the audience keep guessing of what clothes will be at the fashion show and what the models will look like, or I can rotoscope it and make it look like a painting. The issue I may have with this idea is that I can’t draw, therefor, I will need to find someone to who can draw who will want to do this for me. It may cost me, it may not, depending on who the person is and if I do know them personally or not. I would like the image to be pretty details, (facial features etc…) so it almost looks like a drawing of someone. I will need to find a font that would suit the type of style I do for, whether it’s the drawing or making it look like a painting, I will need to find the right font to go alongside the art work. I don’t want a font that is too bold and big because then it would over- rule the artwork. I will have a look on the client’s website, see what fonts they use for what then I will go from there. Colour wise, I will need to research more into that. I will see what colour goes the best with artwork and fashion. I will then look into ways which will make the text look interesting so it doesn’t look boring and as if im listing all the information. Looks like a painting but it isn't. Drawings
  • 8. Evaluation of idea • What do you like about the idea? It’s very different to anything I have done before, it’s helping me get out of my comfort zone and experiment with different styles and even meet new people. • Does it match what the client wants? My client hasn’t gave me a preference of style but personally, I think she will like it because it will look very elegant but simple. If I use the right colours and the right font, it could turn into something really good and the overall piece of product will look professional and I think my client will be pleased with it. • Are you capable of delivering this? Can you do this on time? If I can find a artist who will draw out the model for me then yes I will be able to deliver it. I will be able to also deliver it before the deadline so if my client wants anything improving then I will have time to improve the areas she don’t like. • Do you have the resources available to do this? The only resources I really need for this are things such as a computer, a scanner and Photoshop. The rest of the resources will be provided y the artist when they draw out the model.
  • 9. Idea 3 This is a bit similar to idea 1. I still need a makeup artist, a model and a studio. However, this is different because I'm not making the model look as if she is already on a fashion shoot or a runway, I'm getting a close up of her top half body or a close up of her face. I can the go on to edit the images so it has a filter over it or I can rotoscope it and make it look almost like a cartoon character. Working around a close up image could be a bit tricky and I might struggle with where to put all the writing. However if I do enough research, I will eventually find the right font which will go with the image smoothly. Finding the right colours will also be a challenge, I will need to find the right colours for rotoscope, I will look at existing rotoscope posters that are out there and I will see what colours they have used. I have a slight idea of what it should look overall so I will work towards the target I have in my head. I will make sure to include the client’s logo on the posters and the flyers. The client said to me that the posters and the flyers don’t have to be the same so therefor, I will do different designs for the poster and for the flyers. Filter Cartoon lookalike
  • 10. Evaluation of idea • What do you like about the idea? It’s something I have done before so I know exactly what I'm doing. It will be easy and simple for me to complete this task. However, what I like about this, it gives me time to experiment with new tools on Photoshop and see what I can achieve. • Does it match what the client wants? My client never told me what she wanted, however she sent me a copy of a previous poster. From looking at the poster she sent me, I can see that she will be interested in my poster because the styles of both posters are similar. • Are you capable of delivering this? Can you do this on time? I am. The only thing I may struggle with is capturing the right angle of the model so she looks good and I can put the writing around her rather than on her face. I believe I can deliver this at a high standard on time. • Do you have the resources available to do this? Yes I do. I have all the resources I need including the computer, camera and software. Only thing I need now is a model and a makeup artist.
  • 11. Idea 4 This idea is very different. It’s something I have never done before and I've had to do some research into how to do it. This is called a ‘die cut out’ and it’s where the top layer will have a cut out and you will be able to see parts of the bottom layer through the top layer. This will mean that my flyer will have to be folded over which is something I'm okay with. The top layer will have a cut out of a model walking then once you open up the flyer, all the information you need to know about the event will be inside the flyer. The most common colours for die cut outs is creams, whites and pinks. I will need to design this very carefully to make sure it all goes to plan. Due to not knowing much about die cut outs, I might go and seek help from someone who has done it before or is a bit more professional. As any of my other ideas, I will still look at fonts and what I can put on the bottom and the top page to grab the readers attention.
  • 12. Evaluation of idea • What do you like about the idea? It’s different and it also helps me develop new skills, it will be a type of product which I have never ever done before. To me it will be both experience and excitement. • Does it match what the client wants? I am not entirely sure. The poster my client sent me is nothing like that idea at all. I also don’t think it will be very suitable for a poster or a flyer because this will have to be opened up to be able to view the information of the event. • Are you capable of delivering this? I am not entirely sure, I am not entirely sure how to start or what the procedure is so I will need to look more into it and seek someone who has done this before for help. • Can you do this on time? Once again, I am not entirely sure because I don’t know the procedure and I will need someone else’s help to deliver this on time at a high standard. • Do you have the resources available to do this? I will be working at college and I believe they have all the resources I need.
  • 13. Idea 5 This idea is very different to all the other ideas. It’s will not involve any models, it will only involve shapes and objects. I will use the shapes and objects to create something to do with fashion, whether it’s a dress, a top or even some jeans. I will then put the content around the object/shapes and work around it. this could be fun because you will be able to tell the piece of clothing from the shapes.
  • 14. Evaluation of idea • What do you like about the idea? The idea is very simple, I know what I am doing and I know I am capable of doing this. • Does it match what the client wants? I am not entirely sure. The poster my client sent me is nothing like this idea at all. • Are you capable of delivering this? I am. I know what I am doing and I know what designs I will put the shapes into. • Can you do this on time? Yes, it’s a very simple and easy task and I can deliver a few of different styles on time. • Do you have the resources available to do this? All what I need is a computer, some paper, the internet and photoshop. I have all of those things.
  • 15. Idea Evaluation Which of your ideas do you want to develop further? Explain why you think that is the right idea to take forward. I think I am going to go ahead of idea number one. I know exactly what I am doing and if I take enough images I could even mix it in with idea 3. if I take enough pictures, I will also be able to make different posters and flyers using different styles. I think this is a good idea because my client never told me what style she liked or wanted. She sent me a existing poster and she said she liked it but she wanted to see what I am capable of. So this type of style between idea 1 and idea 2 is the type of style she likes and it’s the style of the previous poster. I don’t want to completely go the opposite direction of the style because I don’t want to spend loads of time on a project, for her to not like it in the end. I think playing it safe and using a similar style to the client’s previous poster is a good idea. Existing Poster
  • 16. Development Use the next slides to document your idea development. This should include mood boards and other visual examples of work. It could include basic mock ups of your vision for the project using the work of others. If you are taking doing something outside of your ordinary skill set or way of working, you could include test work or practice work here too. There is room to develop a second idea here as well. This could give you a greater variety of options to give to your client. You will then assess your developed idea against the constraints of the project before producing a final treatment.
  • 18. Developed Idea 1 The top images are the type of images I would like to capture. I would like to capture the model in her nature mood, almost candid pictures. However, I would also like to capture her looking at the camera, modelling in the clothes with a serious face. I might hire out a fan so when I capture her walking down the corridor her hair can be blown. It would help her feel more in place because she will feel like she is on a real runaway but it would also help me get a better image. In the middle, are some of the fonts I am interested in. I don’t like the font that was used on the client’s existing poster so I would like to change it. I will also use different fonts for different parts of the work for example, the title will be a different font to the details of the event. At the bottom right corner is some colours that I will use. I went onto doing some research with the most popular colours when it comes to fashion and women. I got 2 different Pantone palettes, this gives me a lot of colours to choose from. So once I have captured enough images of the models, I can then go onto finding the right font and the right colours for the posters and the flyers. I will make sure I am following my time management sheet so I don’t fall behind or be too ahead.
  • 19. Developed Idea 1 Mock up 1 Mock up 2
  • 21. Developed Idea 2 The top images are the type of images I would like to draw. However, since I cant draw, I will have to hire someone to draw these for me. I would like the model to be drawn in her nature mood, like she is just walking down a runway or about to start walking. I would also like drawings of the model from her side. Once I am happy with the drawing’s I have, I will put them on the computer and edit them. The colours have to look like they are a bit oily so I will have to go on Photoshop and put like an oil texture on top so they look a bit more realistic.
  • 23. Assessment of final ideas Suitable for audience? I believe it is suitable for the audience. Harriet’s try to deliver all their products at a very high standard using high trained staff. The poster and the flyer will be delivered at a high standard and I will put all my effort into those products. I am not offending anyone by my posters and I am making sure that the model sign’s a release form. Suitability for client? Development idea 1 will be used for the posters and development idea 2 will be used for the flyers. The client showed me some of the previous work that ahs been done for her but she never asked me to do a similar style. Therefor, I have changed the style around a bit, which is a bit risky in case she doesn’t like it and that is why I will be sending her screenshots of my work as I go along so I can get some feedback on the work. Personally, I think she will approve of it. Appeal of the work: It will appeal to the audience because I will use the latest fashionable colours which will then attract the right audience. It will also appeal to the audience because it states clearly why the fashion show is being held and some people will be very happy to be part of a big community who are willing to help those in need. Timescales for production: I have 2 weeks of planning what and how I will deliver these products to the client. In those two weeks I will do different mock ups of flyers and posters. I will also look at existing fashion show posters to get a rough idea of how my poster and flyer should look overall. I will need to find all the people I need in those two weeks and sort out when I will be meeting them and when shoots will take place. I will then have 3 weeks to produce the work which includes taking pictures of the model and getting drawings done for me. I am hoping by the first week of production, I will have a clear aim in my head of what I want my overall work to look like.
  • 24. Assessment of final ideas Costs: There shouldn’t be much costs for creating the pieces of work the client asked from me. However, I will need to find a model and a makeup artist for the first development idea which I will use to create the poster. However, the model and the artist may not cost me anything because the images could be used towards their portfolio. Personnel: I will need to find someone to draw out the models for me for the development idea 2 which will then be used for the flyers. Legal and ethical issues: Copyright is something I need to avoid under all costs. I need to make sure all the images are mine and that I have created my own piece of work rather than stealing someone else’s. I will get sued for using copyright but my client could also get sued which will then end up very badly. Another issue I may face is discrimination, some people will be concerned how the poster is all girly to attract females attention but not males.
  • 26. Competition/Market research: My client doesn’t have any set competitors for a few reasons. One of those reasons being, they are an Italian company and they have a lot of different brands which you don’t really find in lots of places in England. They are well known by those who live around them and those who are interesting in Italian clothing. They are based in Yorkshire, all their shops are in Yorkshire and around that area. I have spoke to my client and asked her who her competitors were and she said she had none, she isn’t fighting for a spot in the market with anyone. Harriet's try to provide affordable clothes in the clothes market. However, she told me that all 4 of her shops were surrounded by charity jobs. This could be an issue because sometimes charity shops have very good brands such as Chanel which will be sold for cheap, maybe even cheaper than some of Harriet’s clothing. https://www.facebook.com/harrietsclothing/reviews?ref=page_internal The shop got 33 ratings of 5 star on Facebook and 1 rate of a 4 star. So over all, they have a really good review on Facebook which is great, it helps new customers see that their clothes and quality is good and worth buying. Even though my Client doesn’t have competitors, I went onto doing some research and I found more independent fashion business. The following are some independent clothes business that are based around Harriet’s locations; Joseph Turner in Thirsk (both men and women’s clothes) and Smashing Clothing in Molton (jewellery, clothes and bags). Those small independent business are well know by people around them but they are not well known over all. There are bigger fashion companies that are will known in the market. Bigger competitors will be business such as Topshop, New look, H&M and more.
  • 27. Competition/Market research: What is their design/photography/marketing/promotional/advertising work like? The website shows all the products my client are selling at the moment. They show the products either worn by a model, displayed on a model or with a nice clear white background and then they show you the price as well. My client’s logo is very simple, it’s just ‘HarrietsClothing’ with a heart at the end. They also display some posters around some of the areas that the shop is open which is great because people can be more aware of them. They also have a Facebook page which is very active, they respond to all good and bad comments and any enquiries. What wider market is your client part of? Undertake research in to that market. This could be in the form of sales figures, audience figures, turnover, job roles, customer base, market share, rules, regulations and codes of practice. There is a lot of clothes shops but however, where Harriet’s is usually placed, there will usually only be charity shops so the clothes will most likely not be brand new. So having Harriet’s open in the areas that they are currently open in is really good because their clothes are brand new and it also offers people around those areas jobs. All employers are trained to make sure they treat customers really well and know how to overcome a unhappy customer.
  • 28. Small Independent clothes busincess JOSEPH TURNER Smash Clothing
  • 29. Big clothes business New Look TopShop H&M
  • 30. Audience/Customer research: Who is the audience or customer that your client is trying to reach? Perhaps they have already told you. Perhaps you should ask. You could also do further research in to the type of audience or customer you are hoping to appeal to. “Harriet's is an independent Yorkshire based ladies fashion business now in its third generation of a local family. We stock both designer brands and high street ladies clothing, shoes and accessories following the latest seasonal trends. We offer customers exceptional value for money in our boutique shops across Yorkshire, our Ebay store and now online. With new stock each week we are reactive to the latest trends and fashions…” When I spoke to my client, she said that the company was targeting people between 18 years to 60 years. That is a big jump, however, as a company they try their best to please all different ages. They try to keep up with trends and fashion colours as well as stocking on elegant clothes for older ladies. Targeting such different ages could be tricky but as a company they work together to achieve their best. they want to target ladies and girls who want a different style and want to start a fashion trend of their own. The work I produce has to apply to that target age, it must be suitable for ages because then it will be able to target everyone's eye that are interested in Italian clothing.
  • 31. Content research: This should take the form of secondary research (exiting products from your client and the competition and wider market) and also some primary research (asking potential audience, your client and your market,) to help you formalise the content of your project. Primary: I have gone onto asking my client about this event. Why it’s being held? What are they trying to achieve? Etc.... I have found out that the event is being held to raise money and awareness for Dementia and Alzheimer's patients. The event is a fashion show, there will be models wearing Harriet's clothing walking up and down the runaway. I gathered some information about the event and Harriet's themselves. I also understood what information I need to put on the products I'm creating. Secondary: Secondary research follows onto the next slide. I looked at my clients existing products to see the sort of clothes that will be displayed in the fashion show. It helped me understand what clothes to display on my poster. I show some of their existing products as well as their logo and the poster that I am currently competing with. Current Website

  • 33. Treatment I am going to hire out a model and get an outfit from your shop that she can wear and then I will do two different shoots. I will do a shoot where she will be in a studio with a white background and the I will do one outdoors with natural lighting rather than artificial lighting. I will be taking the pictures myself and editing the myself as well. I will then put the images onto my computer and edit them to give them a ‘cartoon look’. I will rotoscope them or I will make them look like they have been digitally manipulated. I will be using your logo and I have experimented with some fonts that go really well with your logo’s font. I am going to use pastel and ‘girly’ colours such as baby pink, medium pink and more trending colours. I have looked at some poses which will be great for the model to use to help her feel more into place and feel like she is really on the runaway. The flyer and the poster will be two different designs but there wont be a major difference between both of them. I will use the same model and the same image but I will edit it differently. I will use different colours on the poster and different colours on the flyer and the poster will be A3 size and the flyer will be A5. On the flyer I will have all the main details such as price, time, date, place etc… and on the poster I will have all those details and I will go on to say that the event is being held to raise money and awareness for Alzheimer’s and Dementia.
  • 35. Treatment (visual elements) These are simple mock ups to show you the style of editing I’m using. I am capable of much more than this and please don’t expect the final product to look like this, it will look much better.
  • 36. Timescales: You should prepare a production schedule that will allow you to manage your time over the 3 weeks of production. This should include: • Deadlines: Interim deadlines help you keep on track, final deadlines are final. • Availability: The availability of the client and any other people you may need to help you with your project. You will need to contact them. You might to do visit. You may need to liaise with models, or photographers. • Feedback: This is a working brief with a real client. You will need to get feedback on your work and also allow yourself time to make appropriate changes. Plan appropriate time in to you schedule so that you can do this. • Resources: You should include a list of resources that you will need to complete your project. Remember that this all needs to be your own work
