6. Discuss the constraints you experienced in the project from a legal
(copyright), regulatory (ASA) and financial perspective.
Since the posters I made may be used by my client for advertising for their event,
it meant that I needed to make sure that I did not use anything illegal that could
be bad for my client. For instance I had to make sure that I did not use any
copyrighted image on the posters, I did this by making all of my own graphics so I
would not have to use any images offline. Another way that I had to watch out for
copyrighted things was with the fonts that I used, if I downloaded them offline I
had to make sure that they were allowed for business use and not just personal
use, to make sure I did not use any fonts I was not allowed to I checked the fonts
before I used them, as it says if they are copyrighted on their website.
I also had to make sure that I stayed within the ASA regulations. To ensure that I
did not break any ASA regulations I had to make sure that I did not say anything
that could be misleading to the viewers, such as if I were to say that there would
be free things being given out at the event but there actually was not then it
would be misleading to the viewers. Another thing I had to make sure that I did
not do was to not aim my posters specifically to children and have stuff on it that
tells them to get their parents to go to the event, as this takes advantage of a
child.
7. Discuss how well you managed the project and your time management
I think that I managed the project well, this is due to me having
made a schedule for the project that specifically said what I wanted
to make and what time I should be making it. This made it easier for
me to complete the project as I did not have to waste time thinking
of what I should be making, and I could just get on with creating the
posters. Another way that I managed the project well is that I had a
very specific plan for each of the posters and I had planned out the
layout of them all before starting production. This helped me as it
meant that I did not have to decide the layout on the spot, and it
meant that I did not have any failed attempts at posters that I may
have had if I did not decide on the layout beforehand. Having the
schedule meant that I managed my time really well, as I knew
exactly what I had to do and when.
I had 5 weeks overall to complete this project so I decided to split it
up so I would have two weeks of pre production, one of production,
one spare, and then one for evaluation. This helped me to manage
the project because it meant that I had given myself time limits for
when each part of the project should be finished by so I could do it
specifically. Also I gave myself a spare week after production as this
meant that I had time to improve any work that I felt was not up to
par. Having this idea of how I was going to split up the weeks meant
that I was able to mange my time well because I had outlines on
when I needed certain types of work to be done by.
Date Task to do What to do?

pumpkins out of shapes,
then put them in a design
to finish the background
Monday 14th May
3-4 lessons (3 hours)
Make the first poster,
this will be the
pumpkin patch one
Do so by creating a
boarder using shapes. Set
out the writing and
decide how it will all be
laid out.
Wednesday 15th May
2nd lesson (1 hour
and a half)
Start the next poster,
which is the cat one

through partial
manipulation of shapes
and rotascoping a real
picture of cat. Start to
put together the poster
Thursday 16th May
1-2 lessons (3 hours)
Finish off the cat
poster
Finish putting together
the cat poster using the

how the words are going
to be set up.
Friday 17th May

Create the apple hot
air balloons poster
Create a apple cartoon,
using an image of real
apple. Make a basket for
the hot air balloon, yet
again using a real image.
Decide the layout, and
what is going to be in the
background.
8. How well did you manage communications?
Me and the client mostly communicated through having meetings in
person. We arranged two meetings, one at the beginning where I
asked if I could do the project, I chose to ask them in person as they
are family friends and I thought that it would be easier to ask in
person. The second meeting was during the production of the posters
so that I could show them how I had chosen to create them and to see
what they thought of them, they said that they liked the poster and
said that they were happy with how they were turning out. Having this
meeting gave me feedback on the posters, which helped me as it
meant that I knew if the posters were good enough and how I could
improve them if they were not. We only emailed once however, this
was when they sent me the brief.
Overall I think that I did not manage communications with my client
that well. I think this because I did not communicate with my client all
that much, we had two meetings and a few emails, which is not that
much. This is something that I would change if I were to redo this
project, as this would have been a useful skill to develop for the
future.
9. How did you meet the requirements of the brief and achieve your agreed
outcomes.
In the section called ‘Outline brief’ it says that I needed to create 3 posters
for their Halloween festival and that they should be themed about
Halloween, I completed this task as I made three posters, however one of
them was not Halloween themed but it was themed around apples which
was another one of their requirements. It was that it had to include apples
and pumpkins as the event is based around these, I did this by making one
of the posters based around apples and the other one pumpkins, I also
made the backgrounds for all of the posters so that they included either
apples or pumpkins. They also stated that the posters needed to include
all the relevant information, I also did this with my posters as I had most of
the information on all of the posters, however I put the events there
would be at the event only on the pumpkin patch poster, this was because
I wanted that one to include more information than the other two. So
overall I completed all the requirements in the outlined brief section.
The next section of the brief was ‘Special requirements’ this says more
specific things that the posters would need to include, such as that they
should all be sized A4 and have an autumnal color scheme, I did both of
these things, however with the color scheme I altered it slightly so that
there would be pops of color. It also said that the posters should be
themed around Halloween and pumpkins and apples, which as I said
above I did with my posters. So overall I think that I completed the brief
how they wanted me to.
10. What have your learnt here that could help you in future tasks.
I have learnt and developed some useful skills for the future. An example of this would
be that I developed is how to layout a poster to make it look more professional and to
fit the purpose, I did this by working out how to layout the posters as to make them fit
the purpose they were meant to have, for instance one of the poster I had to make
needed to have more information on it than the other two, this meant that I had to
lay it out so that it had more space for text. This will help me in future tasks when I
need to make other posters that have varying purposes.
Another skill that I developed is how to shade a cartoon object to make it look more
realistic, I did this with the cat on the cat poster, as I wanted it to look like a realistic
looking cat but for it to not be an image of a live cat, so I looked at pictures of real cats
to see where the shadows and highlights should be to make it look real. This is going
to help me in the future if I have to do any projects that involve creating cartoon style
graphics.
I also developed the skill of how to create color schemes that fit what the client
wanted but also would look good over a range of posters. I did this by checking the
brief and seeing what they wanted the color scheme to be, then I created an overall
scheme that fit that but also added pops of color that could be used over different
posters to make them look different from the first one. Such as in my brief it said an
autumnal color pallet, so I went with oranges and reds, but then on the cat poster I
wanted it to have a pop of color so I chose a mint color that matched with the other
colors well. This will help me in the future when I have to do projects with clients, as it
means that I can use their brief but make it work for the things that I want it to.
One skill that I learnt was how to communicate with a client efficiently. Having this
skill will help me with future projects that I may be doing with clients as I learnt how
to communicate with them.
11. Client feedback
I sent an email to my client asking them to give me feedback on the
final posters, this is what I asked and how they responded.
I first asked how they thought my communication with them was,
they said that they thought that I was professional when speaking
with them, however they felt that I did not reach out to them as
much as they would have liked and that they felt they were not very
involved with the project and how it was going to end up looking.
I then asked them what they thought of the final posters and they
responded saying that they thought they were very good and that
they matched well with the brief that they gave me. They also said
that they may use them to advertise the event at some point in the
future. They spoke about how they thought that the posters were
well laid out and matched together well, they said they were
impressed when I said that I created all of the images myself.
