Our film is a psychological thriller aimed at 15-20 year olds that could potentially be distributed through several media institutions:
- Independent cinemas may be most suitable as they show a variety of genres and ratings that could attract wider audiences.
- Film festivals like Sundance that feature dramas and thrillers would be good fits.
- Television channels like BBC rather than specialty channels may work well given the film's age rating and lack of intense violence.
- Filmmakers competitions could also help promote the film.
Potential Distribution Options for a Psychological Thriller Film
1. Media institutions which could potentially
distribute our product
• Some of the different media institution which could
potentially distribute our media product would be at the
cinema – this would reach a wide audience and have
varying ages which come if they like the sound of the film.
• TV could also potentially distribute our product as again,
this would reach many people
• There are also many film festivals which could potentially
show our media product, and filmmakers competitions as
many films are used here and many people would see our
product if it were to be distributed here
2. What is on at Odeon cinema in Guildford

3. Analysis of different genres at Odeon
• Generally, most of these films are sci-fi including thrillers as
well as thrillers alone – so this would fit in with our genre
completely – ours is a thriller which includes some sci-fi in it
with the idea she can see into each person’s future by
looking through the camera.
• The films currently on show at the cinema tell us that the
audiences are generally quite younger due to the age rating
being mainly 12, so even with the thrillers, they are either
not violent or include limited violence, which is similar to
ours.
• However, for our film, the age rating is 15, so this is slightly
different to what is currently on show here.
4. What is on at Ambassadors cinema in Woking?

5. Analysis of different genres in Ambassadors
cinema
• The films shown at this cinema are generally all sci-fi or
dramas, so this is different to our film, mostly they are for a
younger audience also, as the age ratings are 12A or PG
mostly, so this shows that the audiences are probably also
families.
• Our film is different in both the age rate and the genre
itself, and between the films being shown at the cinema in
Guildford and in Woking, and I think this is due to Woking
having more families as their main target audience.
7. Analysis of films at these independent cinemas
• These films include a range of age ratings – 12A, A, 15 are all
included – this would be due to having many different audiences,
from young to older to families. The independent cinema would
have different films with different ratings due to wanting to
attract more people away from the main cinemas – then people
could find a film they wanted here.
• Generally the genres are more drama or animation/sci-fi,
however does include a couple of thrillers also, so slightly similar
to ours, however the thriller is a 12 yet ours is a 15.
• The Odeon Cinemas tend to have the same rating as these
independent cinemas do, however teenagers tend to go to the
Odeon more – the independent cinemas will probably have a
range of audiences, yet are not as well known so need to have a
wider range of film ratings available to attract more customers.
10. Analysis of films at the film festivals
• The main genres of films these film festivals show are
mainly dramas and have some thrillers also are on show
here – so similar to our film which is a thriller and can also
be quite dramatic due to its sub-genre being psychological
• Sundance seems to have a wider range of films on show,
but generally the genre which is most prevalent seems to
be the drama and thriller genre
• This tells me that generally these are the most common
genres of films people will choose to go and see
14. Odeon cinema or independent cinemas?
• I believe our film would be distributed at the independent
cinemas due to it being more or a dramatic psychological
thriller rather than violent or with a lot of action etc.
• I feel that if it were to be shown at an independent cinema
it could potentially attract more people – a wider range.
Even though the rating is a 15, it could reach more people if
it were to be shown at the independent cinema
Where our media product could be shown
15. Cannes vs Sundance film festival?
• Our media product would most likely be shown at …… due
to this film festival including a range of dramas with thrillers
and this is similar to ours as ours is a thriller yet still
psychological and dramatic.
BBC vs Film 4?
• I feel our film would be shown on BBC as it is not a very fast
pace suspense thriller, and younger people can watch it.
Due to the lack of violence and with very limited strong
language, our film would most likely be shown on BBC
rather than another film channel
Where our media product could be shown
16. • Other distribution points for our film to be shown could be
preview screenings – so people book and have separate
screenings for themselves.
• Our film could also potentially be shown at filmmakers
competition
• Some other places our product could be shown is straight
to DVD or video release – rather than cinema or TV, it could
go right to release on DVD.
17. Where do I think our film could be placed
amongst all institutions
• I think that our film would most likely be shown on the BBC
channel due to the age rating be targeted towards 15-20
year olds. Also, as it is more of a calm psychological thriller,
I think it would be more likely to be placed here. However,
due to this, I also think that our film would be shown at a
filmmakers competition also, as it includes a lot of different
shot types and editing so I feel it would work well at a
filmmakers competition.
