The document discusses potential distribution outlets for a short film opening sequence with no budget. It notes that major cinema chains like the Odeon would not be suitable due to the very short length and lack of profit potential. Independent cinemas also may not accept it if the genre is not popular locally. Online indie websites are suggested as they have lower costs and barriers. Television stations like BBC and Film4 that seek to make profits are also not realistic options. The conclusion is that platforms like BBC Three or free online movie websites may be best for a no-budget short film.
2. Media institutions that could potentially distribute our
product if it was made a complete film would be,
cinemas such as local cinemas like Peckhamplex
cinema, Surrey quays cinema, etc. However if ratings
of our film we higher up it would show in cinemas
such as the odean where bigger production films are
shown. For exampleThrillers like the “Deepwater
Horizon” is showing in the odean because it is such a
high budget produced film with academy award
winning actors and directors, therefore it will be
shown in very high standard cinemas that are very
popular.
3. These are the movies on at my
local Odeon. As we can see there
are a lot of new releases having
many different variations of
genre.The majority of genres
showing at my local Odeon are;
Drama, Comedy, action and
adventure were the most popular
genres at the local Odeon at the
moment. However, the films with
a shared genre are very limited
with only 2 films on shown with
sub genres; which are “Split” and
“xXx: Return of Xander cage”.This
tells me that possibly around this
time of year people do not want
to watch thriller films in the local
area of this specific odeon.
4. This new released films is one of the only films that have
a thriller genre showing at the local Odeon meaning that
the audience for this genre have probably found
alternative ways of watching this film which gives more
way for other films with totally different sub genres.
5. Additionally this other new released films another film that have a thriller
genre showing at the local Odeon. This is a pure thriller genre film …..which
gives more way for other films with totally different sub genres.
6. The most prevalent genres that the cinema at borough hill show are
drama, adventure and period time films; and this could be as a result to
what the people in the area like to watch and what is the popular film in
this area. However, this is not are genre and in this case we would not
be successful in passes our opening sequence through. This also tells
me that independent cinemas showcase films that are most popular to
those who live in the area instead of mainstream films or worldwide
franchises. This is very different to the Odeon because there line of
cinemas must follow mainstream audience films as well as some niche
which allows them to gain high profit shares for distributing those
certain films to the public.
7. The most prevalent genres that the cinema at PeckhamPlex based in south London show are drama, adventure, thriller, action and fantasy; being
based in south London as an independent cinema the genres which are showcased here are very broad. The genres that are showcased are as a
result to what the people in the area like and what is the popular films currently out on release.Although, this is not our main genre the cinema
distribute elements of it therefore making it possible to pass our opening sequence film through there. This also tells me that independent
cinemas showcase films that are most popular to those who live in the area as well as mainstream and Niche films or worldwide franchises, in
some ways trying to be the biggest independent film company with such a wide range of genre films. This is very different to theOdeon because
they are part of a chain and their funds come from the profit in which the movies make and the distribution of the films to the public, however,
Peckham pulse make a lot of money for distributing the films and the attendance of people being very high and regular.
8. BFI London film festival show a massive range of films with all genres including period drama, drama, action, romance,
Sci fi, and comedy; this then gives the audience much more options on what to watch and choosing their favourite
genre. The most prevalent genre is action, crime, drama and action theses film are mainly shown at these festivals at a
very popular rate, however the ones that win the most award are those with action and drama genres. This tells me that
the genre with the most awards is the most popular one and the genre that people enjoy.
9. Sundance film festival show a very famous with a huge range of
films with all genres including drama, action,Thriller, horror, Sci
fi; this then gives the audience much more opportunity to watch
the films they love. The most prevalent genre is drama theses
films which are showcased at the Sundance festival receive
rewards of high respect and dignity. This tells me that the genre
with the most awards is the most popular one and the genre that
people enjoy.
10. Psycho – shown on Film 4
(psychological thriller)
Black swan - shown on Film 4 (psychological thriller)
The Prestige- shown on E4 (psychological thriller)
Shutter Island - shown on Film 4
(psychological thriller)

12. Our opening sequence wouldn’t end up on the Odeon because the
duration of the film is very short, the budget of our film was £0 meaning
the profit wouldn’t be significant enough for us to be able to pay the
Odeon for distributing our film, however our genre would fit perfectly in
the Odeon as it is apart of what they distribute.
The opening sequence also would end up at an independent cinema
because of mainly the same reason as in cost will be to high as there is no
gross for the significance of the film, the independent cinemas film are
limited to the genre popularity of a certain area which may not cover our
genre.
Our opening sequence could have a chance of being put online to and
indie website because of its low budget costs, non high status in the
world of media, as well as it being quick and easy.
Our opening sequence wouldn’t be able to appear on television which
hold a high popularity rate such as BBC, ITV or Film 4, because they
would make better money by distributing other films which would make
them money.
13. Realistically in my opinion the film would be
more likely placed on a bbc three channel, as a
support in our mainstream product film. The
final completed one might go on any online
websites, where indie films are shown such as
ones where you can watch movies illegally for
free i.e. ‘123movies’ and ‘Putlocker’. I think that
our final product would get in to the cinema,
however not the odean cinema because of its
high platform in film and high profile in critics on
certain movies and films that they show.
