2. Media institutions:
◦ The media institutions which could potentially show our product film would be in the cinema, this is
because this is the most common way of watching new realised films, however our movie is very low
budget and hasn’t got any well known actors in so is therefore very unlikely for it to be broadcasted in the
cinemas.
◦ One other place which could potentially show our product film would be at a film festival, this is because
local film festivals show recently released media student films such as surrey film festival where as widely
popular film festivals show really well know popular films.
◦ Another institution which could potentially show our product would be on the television, this is because
it is a very common way of watching films, normally very popular well known films are mainly shown.
There are many channels and lots would be good for people to find out about new films that have been
released. However we don’t have the money and is very unlikely for our film to be shown on the
television because this is a new film and has a very low budget.

4. What is on at the Odeon:
◦ At the moment because our film is a thriller I don’t think that it would be that popular
with the public at the moment, I have made this analysis from looking at the genres
which are the most popular at the moment.
◦ The films that are the most popular, showing at the Odeon at the moment are not
thrillers, and most are either comedy or dram films. This shows me that in my local
cinema the most enjoyed films are films of the comedy and also the drama genre.
◦ The two of the films which are newly released are both part of the comedy genre
showing me that the most prevalent genre at the moment is the funny films, our film
doesn’t fit in with this genre at all as it a psychological thriller so wouldn’t fit with the
UK demands of films at the moment.
5.
6. Ambassador Cinema Woking:
◦ The films showing at the Ambassador cinema working are very similar to the
ones showing at the Odeon, maybe a few more children friendly films.
◦ The genre mainly reoccurring is the drama or comedy genre, which highlights
the fact that our thriller wouldn’t fit with what is popular in the UK at the
moment.
◦ Altogether there are less films on at this cinema this is because there are many
less screens as it also has theatres as well.
7. Independent cinema’s:
◦ An Independent Cinema brings a wider range of films to a wider range of
audience, they aim to show an assortment of content to audience and
locations, they also aim to develop training in the industry.
◦ An independent cinema can show any film in which they wish to show where
as mainstream cinemas such as the Odeon get told what films and genres to
show when.
9. ◦ An example of an independent cinema is the BFI which is located in London on Southbank. The
BFI independent cinema is a four-screen cinema venue showing over 2,000 classic and
contemporary films each year.
◦ The film genre mostly showing is drama, this is very similar to the Odeon and mainstream
cinemas, although there are some thrillers in there as well, as in the BFI Southbank
independent cinema was also showing Psycho by Alfred Hitchcock in March, which is in the
same genre as our play just not the same subgenre.
10. Film Festivals:
◦ A film festival is an organized presentation of films in
one or more cinemas and venues, the best known film
festivals are Cannes , Venice , Toronto and Berlin.
Venice held the first major film festival in 1932.
◦ The BFI film festival has 240 films. From 72 countries.
16 cinemas. 12 days. One Festival. They have a huge
range of films and genres as there are so many films
being shown there’s always a bit for everyone. The
most common shown last year was the animation
genre.
11. Surrey Film Festival:
◦ The Surrey Film Festival is mainly used to show any
media products who would like to be shown. The film
festival doesn’t have a set genre or sub-genre in which
the films can be, this means that there is a huge range
of genres of films and also styles of editing this makes
it really exciting for the audience.
◦ I think that our media product of our psychological
thriller opening sequence could be shown here, This is
because all media students are welcome to go and put
forward there projects.
12. Films that have been on TV: Film 4
These are films showing on Film 4 which
are in the thriller genre.
13. Where our Film will be shown:
◦ If our film was to be in either the Odeon or an Independent Cinema I think that it
would more likely to be shown in an independent cinema, this is because I found that
more well known films were shown in chain cinemas such as the Odeon where as less
well known films were shown in Independent cinemas. So if our film was to be shown
in a cinema it would most probably be the independent cinema because our film is
not going to be a well known film, this is because it has no big actors and made with a
very limited budget.
◦ Another place where our film could be shown is a young filmmakers competition, this
is because the films would be made by people the same age and also could be good
fun to get some feedback on our opening sequence and see which type of people like
it and which don’t.
14. Overall:
◦ Overall I do not think that it is realistic to think that our opening sequence would be shown in a
cinema or independent cinemas this is because the films showing in these venues are made my
professionals and also acted by professionals as well which means our film being as low budget
as it is wouldn’t be able to work.
◦ On the other hand I think that we could have our film shown in surrey film festival. This is
because it is mainly for media students and it would be interesting to see a large audiences
reaction to our opening sequence, I think this is more realistic than cinemas or large film
festivals or even the television because we don’t have any money and its mainly for enjoyment
and educational purposes.
