Evaluation 3: What kind of
media institution might
distribute your media product
and why
Media institutions:
 One media institution that would display our opening sequence would be cinemas.
By having cinemas showing our opening sequence, we could attract our target
audience, to see the opening sequence. Also, by doing this, it would attract
attention for other sources of media (such as TV) to distribute the final product.
 Another form of media would be TV. This is a good source of a media institution as
it would get the attention of other people in society to watch the product, getting
more people outside our target audience into the type of genre.
 A third form of media would be film related festivals, such as comicon. By using
these types of media institutions, it would get more peoples attention and also
include people who usually enjoy a different genre.
Local Odeon – What’s on?
Local Odeon – What’s on?
Local Odeon – What’s on?
o In the local oden in Guildford town centre, the films that are on display include:
o Fiction
o Science-fiction
o Comedy
o Cartoon
o The films that are on display at the moment do not fall into the psychological thriller
genre; I think this is mainly due to the fact that it is the Christmas holidays, and many
children would want to go to the cinema, not wanting to see scary films or psychological
thrillers.
Woking Ambassador – What’s on?
o At the moment, in the Woking cinema, the films that are on release include:
o Ballerina
o Disney’s Moana
o Fantastic Beasts and where to find them
o Monster Trucks
o Passengers
o (Pre-release) Assassins Creed
o (Pre-release) Collateral Beauty
o (Pre-release) Silence
o Why Him?
o In Woking, they are showing similar films, but are also showing more thrillers, which falls
under the thriller genre, similarly to the psychological thriller that our product is. This
could be due to the fact that both people in Woking and Guildford share similar taste in
film genres.
Independent Cinemas
 In the cinema BFI in Southbank, there are films that are very different to what is
being shown in Woking Ambassador and Guildford’s Odeon. There are limited
cartoons and more films targeted at adults aged about 25+.
Independent Cinemas
o In ‘Timeout London’, similar shows with BFI, and I think this is because they are both
independent cinemas. Similar target audiences are addressed, as shown by the screenshots.
o I think that the main genres are si-fi, fiction and non-fiction, simply because more or an adult
audience is targeted.
Film Festivals – IWM Short Film Festival
 The Imperial War Museum (IWM) short film festival involves the publics choice on
short film which is to be displayed, which consist of two main categories and then 4
further categories. The genres connect with history, due to the venue, and this is
very different to our genre, as ours is a psychological thriller.
Film festivals – Film 4 Summer Screen at
Somerset House
 Every year in August for two weeks, film four show a range of films, ranging from
classic to cult and contemporary. As a main event during the summer, there is a
range of events, including red-carpet events, comedies, thrillers and musicals and
state of the art sound systems.
 The majority of films available for most recent dates include non-ficton events that
have happened in peoples lives, which is the opposite to our product, as they fall
under different genres.

Where could our product be shown?
 Independent cinema VS Oden cinema:
I think that our product would be more likely to be shown in a local oden rather that a independent
cinema. I think this as I think that more people would be attracted to see the product in a oden cinema and I
feel it would be more successful in attracting our target audience.
 BBC VS Film 4:
I think that our product would be more likely shown on film 4, mainly due to the fact that the genre is more
likely to be shown on film 4 rather than the BBC, also due to the fact that the product may not cater to all the
viewers tastes.
 IWM VS Film 4 Summer Screening Somerset House
I think that our product would more likely be screened at the Film 4 Summer Screening at Somerset House,
because the genre has more relevance, and little to do with factual and war based and due to the fact that
more films to do with fiction get shown in the summer, as well as targeting our target audience.
 Young Film-makers competitions
I think by entering a young film-makers competition, it would give our product more credit and draw the
attention to the skills that we have used.
 Realistically, I feel that our opening sequence would be shown in a cinema because
that way, our target audience can be targeted more easily.
