Mr. Tanaka is an expert of the “Oobeya” method used to visually manage complex, transversal projects. At the European Lean IT Summit 2012, he presented his latest innovation: the “digital oobeya”, or how to combine technology and this state-of-the-art project management method in a distributed team context.
"Life Inside the Tornado": Clients, Customers and eComRichard Martin
Presentation I gave to the Institute of Management Consultancy and The Cranfield Institute of Management on 10th February 2000 on the dash for Web 1.0 back in the late 1990's. What were the reasons for companies dropping everything and jumping on this bandwaggon? What were the effects on their organisations and how did they align their other technologies to cope? This presentation was hailed by the IMC as a "Virtuoso Performance"!
How much do you really know about your suppliers? How could your supply chain be impacted by a natural disaster, another recession, or limited inventories?
Global supply chains have been brought to their knees in recent years as the result of host of massively disruptive events including devastating natural disasters, economic crisis, turbulent commodity prices, product recalls, and other unforeseen disruptions. These catastrophic events including Hurricane Irene, the eruption of the Eyjafjallajokull volcano in Iceland, the Japan earthquake and tsunami, and the most recent Thailand flooding have put many suppliers out of business, leaving manufacturers stranded and production lines halted.
Executives are becoming increasingly aware of the risks of doing business on a global scale and are experiencing first-hand the havoc these supply chain disruptions pose to their bottom lines, brand reputation, and stock value.
Join Supply & Demand Chain Executive and IHS as they share expertise, tools, and best practices in supply chain risk mitigation, and supplier risk scoring. Speakers will discuss why managing risk in the supply chain needs to be a multidimensional approach taking into account:
Materials risk, knowing where volatile raw material prices are headed
Electronic Parts risk, ensuring the sustainability and authenticity of the components within your supply chain
Supplier risk, understanding what potential obstacles your suppliers might face
Global supply chains need this critical information now more than ever. Don't miss this chance to hear industry experts share actionable advice on leading tools and best practices for supplier risk management.

Agile Hardware Product Development (NextGen NPD plus - MRO shop example) inc...Richard Platt
This is the Master draft of a presentation that I gave to the Project Management Institute (pmi.org), on Next Generation New Product Development with an MRO Shop performance increase as a result of applying this methodology to shop operations, However the methodology in and of itself was intended for New Product Development teams, but the methodology was equally relevant and applicable for Mfg and Process operations, particularly when you are dealing with heterogeneous flows within the process itself, which current methods of NPD, are not able to address, and thus why in many cases they are not as effective an approach to getting the said process to move even faster, more efficiently and effectively. Have a look for yourself, try it out, let me know what you think.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

Editor's Notes
Operation excellent – It is a philosophy, and the key is Performance metrics. People also discuss best in class, which stems from best practices and good business outcomes
Our experience is that many SME’s - can not be complacent cannot be mediocre- No one can be complacent and accept mediocrity or this is just the way we do things here
Put more meat here- I can’t control the cost of oil, but I can control my operational infrastructure and processes
For Manufacturing companies, these are the big 3 disciplines. Since we are focusing on PLM, lets look at a product’s life cycle over time and see how these disciplines are used
Pause- inside this use graph are also boundary layers between all three systems, that require information to be exchanges or passed between PLM and ERP and CRM to PLM or ERP, let’s investigate that with an analogy from the womens 4 x 100 olympic relay race
Congrats to Team USA for their victory in the 4 x 100 relay.
Even if you have the right infrastructure or systems in place, passing information between them “ tests” the limits of those systems and processes. Modern CRM PLM and ERP systems can communicate, and Pro Nova will be discussing that in their presentation
Many companies have these issues in product development because they are doing PLM without a comprehensive PLM technology underneath the business processess. They may have CRM and ERP, but the PLM discipline is an sad hoc siloed infrastructure of microsoft spreadsheets and simple PDM systems
Looking at our earlier picture of a product lifecycle and layering in the “ batons” of information that need to be passed a certain stages in the lifecycle.
A more detailed view of a complete product structure or full product record in PLM the as designed BOM
Let’s take a look at a large company you are all familiar with, and see what they have for driving operational excellent and product velocity
Apple’s performance metrics are outstanding. At the apex, is shareholder value, the largest valuation in with world – A World Record
It’s a race – winner has the most velocity to market , PLM helps you gain the velocity – Platform products , organized in PLM – Compared that to the siloed operation – 2 – 3 years to get a product to market - OPERATIONAL Excellence!
If I were a small the Medium enterprise executive, I would be asking these same questions… we just talked about Apple how can you compare yourself to Apple – Operational excellence
Adam introduction slide
Thanks Adam, now let’s take a brief high level view of Agile PLM with a 15 minute demo from Mike Halladay, who worked on implementing Agile at Pro Nova Solutions with Adam and the team there
Thanks Mike, now we all know to invest in anything we need to have an ROI prepared for the CFO. And it had better do 1 or all of these three things – increase revenue, decrease cost or mitigate risk. You can see the details of some sample improvement metrics with PLM.
Now I would like to introduce Zero wait state’s chairman, Paul Peck and have Paul discuss a couple of success stories with Agile PLM in terms of the reducing costs with Bom information and also empowering ERP with the right bom information from Agile
Thanks Paul- those were great stories. Now PLM is not only about the as designed BOM or but a complete product record and the automating the associated business processes around the product record. Many people implement PL just to automate their change processs or quality process, but they should have road map to phase in all of these processess over time Tie this back to Pro Nova solutions road map
Mention Pro Nova story – and other 50 companies that have implemented PLM with ZWS, small medium and large, Walking – web site blogs , presentations, videos If you like what you heard and saw today, and want to start faster – jogging – these options
Our purpose is to help you achieve gold level operational excellence! Feel free to contact us – either me directly or thru our web site.
