Importance Of Learning A Foreign Language Essay
Learning a foreign language involves developing new skills and going through different stages. The
four skills you need to develop are listening, speaking, reading, and writing. You need to be able to
understand when someone speaks the language you are learning. In addition to that, you need to be
able to express yourself in that language. Most of the time, the written language is more complex than
the spoken language. You want to be able to understand a text you read. Moreover, you want to be
able to express your ideas in writing, with the right words and correct grammar. Acquiring these four
skills requires various study patterns.
Building Vocabulary
First of all, you need to build vocabulary. Building vocabulary involves learning the meaning of the
words, their spelling, and pronunciation. Unlike in English, each word has a gender in many languages
like French, Spanish, and German. You need to memorize the gender of a word in order to use it
correctly. You also need to learn the conjugations of verbs and adjectives. That is where you cross the
border between the vocabulary and grammar.
Studying Grammar
In order to learn a foreign language, you need to study its grammar, the structural rules of a language.
Most of the time, grammar is a complicated subject to understand, to learn, and to use correctly. To
make things even more complicated, you will need to memorize the exceptions to the grammar rules
you learn.

If you have sufficient vocabulary and a good

Apush Chapter 23 Summary
Chapter 23 The Bloody Shirt Elects Grant The Republicans nominated General Grant for the
presidency in 1868. The Republican Party supported the continuation of the Reconstruction of the
South, while Grant stood on the platform of just having peace. The Democrats nominated Horatio
Seymour. Grant won the election of 1868. The Era of Good Stealings Jim Fisk and Jay Gould devised
a plot to drastically raise the price of the gold market in 1869. On Black Friday, September 24, 1869,
the two bought a large amount of gold, planning to sell it for a profit. In order to lower the high price
of gold, the Treasury was forced to sell gold from its reserves. Boss Tweed employed bribery, graft,
and fraudulent elections to milk New York of as much ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also opposed the government imposing a single moral standard on the entire society. Democrats
were found in the South and in the northern industrial cities. A Stalwart faction led by Roscoe
Conkling supported the system of swapping civil servant jobs for votes. (Giving someone a job if they
vote for a specific party/cause. Spoils system ) Opposed to the Stalwarts were the Half Breeds, led by
James G. Blaine. The main disagreement between the two groups was over who would give the jobs to
the people who voted in their favor. The Hayes Tilden Standoff, 1876 Congress passed a resolution
that reminded the country, and Grant, of the two term tradition for presidency after Grant was
speculating about running for a 3rd term. The Republicans chose Rutherford B. Hayes as their
presidential candidate for the election of 1876. The Democrats chose Samuel J. Tilden. In the election,
Tilden won the popular vote, but was 1 vote shy from winning in the Electoral College. The
determining electoral votes would come from three states, Louisiana, South Carolina, and Florida who
had each sent two sets of ballots to Congress, one with the Democrats victorious and the other with the
Republicans victorious; there was no winner in these states. It was necessary to find the true political
party winner of the states, although it was unknown who would judge the winner of the states because

Examples Of Mistakes In American History
Nobody is perfect, so everyone all makes mistakes. Human created history and even historical
failures. Some people believe that we usually repeat what we did wrongly before. It sounds similar to
the British author George Bernard Shaw s idea: We learn from history that we learn nothing from
history. However, in my opinion, that idea is completely not correct, because we must learn something
from the mistakes we made in the past, so that we would not do them one more time at the present or
in the future.
In my essay, I will use three examples from American history (from 1877 to the present) to disprove
George Bernard Shaw s statement. They are all the mistakes which the American made in the past
have not appeared until today.
Firstly, Vietnam ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bush used to say a sentence which was very famous and seemed as his promise. That was Read my
lips: No new taxes . However, in June 1990 Bush abandoned his Read my lips. No new taxes
campaign pledge and acknowledged that new or increased taxes were necessary. Many Republican
conservatives were critical of this shift, and his popularity ratings fell immediately. (8) On March 4,
1992, he said: I thought this one compromise, and it was a compromise, would result in no more tax
increases. I thought it would result in total control of domestic discretionary spending. And now we
see Congress talking about raising taxes again. And some in Congress are talking about trying to break
down the spending caps. And so I m disappointed and given all of that, yes, a mistake. (9)
Let s talk about an example of kept promises. Barak Obama promised to Extend the Bush tax cuts for
lower incomes and he kept his word. He extended the Bush tax cuts for those making less than
$250000 (couples) or $200000(single). (10) He promised to Create an Advanced Manufacturing Fund
to invest in peer reviewed manufacturing processes, and once again he kept his word.
As a president, it would be terrible if that president broke his promise to the public. Once he says
something, he had better follow and do exactly the same as what he said. If not, his words will become
unreliable. Barak Obama was the 44th president of the United States, and it seemed that he learned a
mistake from the 41st president or we can say, from the

The U.S. Silica mines in Columbia SC main focus is sustainability. They are the leading silica sand
supplier and they focus on materials that are essential in modern living. U.S. Silica produces fiber
glass, face powders, tooth paste, roofing shingles, etc. They manufacture fiber glass the most.
Airplanes, boats, and truck are some of the consumers that use fiberglass the most. Sand mining also
extracts important minerals like zircon, and rutile which both contain useful elements for industrial
purposes. One key point that was made about mining is that the total economic impact of mining

Silica mines the sand looks and feels like baking flour. They also have kaolin which is a white type of
clay. They try to stay away from working with the kaolin because it s sticky and hard to deal with.
They also do very little frac mining. The frac mining process has several steps. Before frac mining can
began all vegetation must be removed from the area. Then to reach the target sandstone, all unwanted
rock layers has to be removed. Thirdly the top of the sandstone has to be exposed and since frac sand
is cemented together explosive charges has to be placed inside holes drilled near the edge of the mine
so the sandstone can break into small pieces. Then loaders are driven in to scoop up sandstones from
near the wall of the mine pit. After the loaders scoop up the sandstones they send the sandstones to a
crusher which breaks down the large chunks into individual sand grains. Sand grains are then washed
to remove any unwanted particles. Once it has been washed, it is stockpiled for drying, sorting, and
the final shipment. After the final shipment mine reclamation is started which is when the mined pit is
filled back up with rocks and other materials that were not used from the sandstones and the new
surface eventually be replanted. Regular sand mining at the U.S. silica is similar to this process except
that there is no need for the explosives process because the sand is already soft and comes apart

Rhetorical Analysis Of Patrick Henry s Speech To The...
A Rhetorical Analysis of Patrick Henry s Speech To The Virginia Convention
The prominent patriot Patrick Henry once said, I know not what course others may take; but as for me,
give me liberty or give me death! (Henry 7) implying that a life without liberty is not a righteous life.
Henry s quote is included in his popular oratory Speech to the Virginia Convention. While discussing
with the colonists, Henry lists all of the discrepancies the thirteen colonies had with Great Britain,
concluding that there is no other option, but to retaliate instantaneously. In Patrick Henry s Speech to
the Virginia Convention, he utilizes amplifying loaded words and coherent parallelism in order to
influence the assembly to unify and reciprocate.
Throughout the entirety of his speech, Henry presents amplifyingamplifyling loaded words to bring to
attention the predicament between the two opposing sides. The purpose of loaded words are terms to
influence by utilizing positive or negative connotations. For example, Henry claims in paragraph five,
We have petitioned; we have remonstrated; we have supplicated... (Henry 5). He particularly targets
the verb of the sentences by altering their meaning, to add a kick to the phrase. Rather than state, We
have asked; we have protested, we have begged, Henry offers more potent terms, such as petitioned,
remonstrated and supplicated, to emphasize how perilous the situation between the two countries is,
compelling them to take action. He continues to go forth near the end in the paragraph seven stating It
is in vain, sir, to extenuate the matter (Henry 7). Again he focuses on the verb, in this case, extenuate
to accentuate the seriousness of the dilemma by pleading to the audience that now is the time to act,
rather than wait or else matters will only get more grave. Henry uses amplifying loaded words in his
declamation to his advantage to persuade, almost deceive, in order to oblige his audience to take
matters into their own hands. Patrick Henry displays coherent parallelism in order to highlight the
hardships the colonies had to endure while fusing balance and technique in doing so. Parallelism, or
parallel structure, is a literary method defined as the

Evolution of the European Council
Introduction
To fully appreciate the position of the European Council within the European Union we first took a
brief look at how the European Union came about. The European project first started soon after the
second world with the creation of the ECSC (European Coal and Steel Community) to harmonise
relations between the Nations of Europe and to prevent any further conflicts of the scale of the wars
that had preceded its creation. The new spirit of cooperation aimed to bring about a new era of peace
and prosperity across Europe. The founding nations were Belgium, France, Germany, Italy,
Netherlands and Luxemburg. The first enlargement came in 1973 when Ireland, Denmark and the
United Kingdom joined the EU. Since then a further 18 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Step 4 came in the shape of the Amsterdam Treaty which reaffirmed the powers and responsibilities
given to the Council within the Maastricht Treaty. It then extended these powers and responsibilities
with regards to the EMU and CFSP.
The Nice Treaty was step 5 wherein it gave the Council the power to nominate the person to be put
forward for the position of President of the European Commission.
The final and sixth step came in the form of the Lisbon Treaty when the European Council was
established as a fully fledged institution of the European Union. The Lisbon Treaty stated The
European Council consists of the Heads of State and Government of the Member States and is an
official institution of the Union (Article I 21) (Europa.eu, 2012). This treaty changed the structure of
membership of the European Council. Before the Lisbon treaty the membership was a two tiered
system. The first tier consisted of the heads of state or government of the member states and the
president of the commission. The second tier consisted of the foreign ministers of each member state
and one other member of the commission. Before the Lisbon treaty only two members per delegation
were permitted to attend meetings of the council. This was to promote a more relaxed and informal
atmosphere than that in council of ministers. Since the Lisbon treaty there is just one tier of
membership consisting of heads of state, the European

Messages About Morality and Politics Conveyed in...
A morality play is a medieval play designed to teach the audience right from wrong. JB Priestley uses
An Inspector call to convey a moral message, which is that you should not judge people on their class
i.e. lower working class/higher class. He also expands the views of socialism within the message; this
is all made very clear by the use of dramatic devices. Although it is a morality play it is not in the
traditional format. Priestley makes it very clear in what he wants the audience to think is moral and
immoral. The play also conveys a strong political message. The play encourages the idea of socialism,
a society in which responsibility and community are essential, also a place where the community all

Mrs Birling could symbolise wrath, because she was angry at Eva Smith for naming herself Mrs
Birling . Shelia could symbolise envy as she was jealous or Eva smith as she thought she was pretty
and look better that she did in the dress. Gerald could symbolise lust, as he had an affair with Eva.
Being able to point out that the Birlings can be identified as the sins shows the audience how JB
Priestley highlights the idea that capitalism is itself a sin. This is also why the genre of an inspector
calls is a morality play.
Two of the Birlings show a positive reaction to The Inspectors message, who are Eric and Shelia,
however Mr and Mrs Birling give a negative reaction. Priestley uses the generation divide to show
how the younger generation symbolise hope for the future. Priestley shows that Eric and Shelia regret
what they have done, which suggests they will make an effort to improve their relationships with
others, especially towards the general public such as Eva Smith. However their parents are the
complete opposite, they are only interested in their wealth and material items.
Priestley sets out a sequence of stage directions at the beginning of the play, he applies them
successfully as a dramatic device. He uses the stage directions to show the audience that the Birling
family are cold and distant, and how supposedly capitalism has affected their lives. Highlighting he

Pirates Of The Caribbean At World s End Analysis
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World s End Evaluation Swashbuckling action and fierce battle scenes are
abundant in the third Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World s End is an
action adventure film that follows the story of Captain Jack Sparrow, William Turner, and Elizabeth in
their adventures on the Caribbean Sea. It is the third film in the series and concludes the Davy Jones
and East India Trading Company story arc. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World s End is the best movie
in the franchise because it fleshes out existing characters while staying true to their original
characterization, has an interesting and cohesive narrative, and makes excellent use of special effects.
The film believably adds to the motivations and actions of the characters. For instance, in the first two
films Captain Jack Sparrow struggles with whether to do what is right or to do what he wants. In the
first movie, he saves Elizabeth from drowning, but then threatens her in an escape attempt. In the
second film, he is willing to send one hundred people to Davy Jones to save himself from having to
serve aboard Jones ship. In this film, he has the opportunity to become the immortal captain of the
Flying Dutchman. Jack Sparrow loves the sea and the freedom it gives him, but he gives up this
chance to allow Will Turner to live. He chooses to do the right thing at the end of this film, showing
that he is deep down a good man, albeit with many vices. Elizabeth also grows in

Green Mountain Coffee Roasters By David Einhorn
Executive Summary
Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (GMCR), a Vermont based coffee roaster and distributor has been
under fire publicly by David Einhorn, founder and fund manager of New York hedge fund company
Greenlight Capital. Mr. Einhorn has suggested that Green Mountain Coffee Roasters is over valued
based on their unscrupulous accounting and reporting principles. Despite impending expiring patents,
Mr. Einhorn has identified that GMRC is in violation of US GAAP standards. Overstatement of
inventory, overstatement of income, inaccurate inventory costs and failure to reverse accruals to the
customer incentive program has been alleged against GMRC, thus inflating GMRC s overall value. As
a result of Mr. Einhorn s whistleblowing, GMRC s stock price has fallen including lost market value.
In my opinion, Mr. Einhorn was correct in his allegations against GMRC. To gain consumer and
market confidence, GMRC must follow GAAP standards, and ensure preventive mechanisms are in
place in order to ensure public mistrust is mitigated that is inclusive to ethical, transparent reporting.
BACKGROUND OF THE COMPANY
Green Mountain Coffee Roasters is located in Vermont, United States of America. The company is

Crime Against Humanity
A crime against humanity is widespread or systematic attacks against a civilian population. Crimes
against humanity is a problem that has repeated itself through history and is still occurring in the
present world today. How countries, that are in a place of power, should or should not respond to these
crimes is a controversial issue that numerous people differ on opinion. Some argue that nations should
act according to their own national interest and do what is best for their country, including not doing
anything at all. Other s have a belief in which countries that are in a place to intervene should do so.
This could be with a forceful militaristic approach. Any crime against humanity should not be
tolerated in this view. Another opinion is that in crisis situations, a collective effort by an international
community, such as the United Nations, should be the people who respond and resolve the conflict.
This takes out individualizing countries, and creates an international effort. Over the course of history
many diverse actions have been taken in response to a crime against humanity. Some examples as to
why an international community or a country should intervene with full force and right away are
through the Ukraine Famine, the Rwandan Genocide, and the Armenian Genocide.
What is known as the Ukraine Famine was a crisis in which no outside force responded to help the
Ukrainians. When Stalin rose to power as the leader of the Soviet Union, one of his first actions was to

The Royal Exhibition Building is the architecture which assembles the history and spirits of the city of
Melbourne. It was built in 1880 by Reed and Barnes, who won the design competition of this building,
for Melbourne s first international exhibition with the purpose of demonstrating the achievements
acquired by industrialization and bringing people with confidence and enthusiasm. The Centennial
International Exhibition was subsequently held in 1888 in the building as Melbourne s second

opportunity for Melbourne to exchange ideas, goods and cultural values with other countries and
promoted trade and economic growth . It also hosted the opening site of Australia s first Federal

Gabriela Cowperthwaite Blackfish Controversy
Exaggeration and Manipulation Undermine Blackfish s Credibility Gabriela Cowperthwaite s activist
documentary, Blackfish, spurred a significant public dialogue following its 2013 premier. The film
centers on the role of Tilikum, an orca whale at SeaWorld, in the deaths of three SeaWorld trainers,
including, most recently, Dawn Brancheau. Cowperthwaite follows a suit brought against Sea World
by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), weaving together testimony of
scientists, former trainers, and family members of the deceased, among others, to make a compelling
case against SeaWorld s practice of holding and performing alongside orcas. Nevertheless, after its
release, the film drew criticism from some of its participants as well as Sea World itself.
Cowperthwaite claims not to have tried to vilify SeaWorld. However, this claim seems dubious given
the film s fairly evident anti SeaWorld bias. On its website, SeaWorld asserts that several key points
made in Blackfish are untrue. One of the film s primary claims is that orcas in the wild live
significantly longer than those in captivity, which bolsters the film s thesis that captivity harms orcas.
Great controversy surrounds this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

that the film is unreliable in and of itself. However, it again casts reasonable doubt over the film s
veracity, an issue that the director of a compelling film should strive to avoid. If Cowperthwaite aimed
simply to get people thinking, she would have given viewers a positive perspective as well, so as to
enable viewers to conduct their own robust cost benefit analyses of SeaWorld s business

When Saturday Comes Along One Can Only Hope Hope For A
When Saturday comes along one can only hope hope for a lazy morning filled with back to back
episodes of cartoons. However, only in a perfect world can we watch back to back episodes without
commercial breaks. For children that world is non existent at the moment. Many times the
commercials that come after Phineas and ferb or Spongebob are as enjoyable as the show itself. It
seems like children enjoy keeping their eyes glued to the television screen more than they should.

This can be problematic because the ads children see after shows can shape all sorts of habits into
them : food preferences, norms, tastes, behaviors, and preferred portion sizes are established during
childhood and adolescence and are very difficult to change (Pomeranz). That is to say that the ads that
children see after shows can have profound impacts in a child s life. Watching a repetition of a sugary
cereal commercial can influence a child into buying that product when grocery shopping. Children are
power holders and can shape the buying habits of a family: two to fourteen year olds have sway over
500 billion a year in household purchasings (Calvert). Children really do hold power in a family. They
can become targets and fall under the influence of advertisers. In return, advertisers can make children
want needs that they don t really need. Therefore, conflict can arise when a child is denied a product
by a parent. There are some ads that can influence a child s buying habit while others can hammer in
trends into a child, influence certain actions or habits. Some commercials can become problematic for
children. For instance, the Pakistan Observer mentions that a television commercial of a biscuit
manufacturing company shows a youth jumping off an apartment to force his girlfriend to marry him

Three Unknown Enzymes
Introduction In the lab, we were provided with three unknown enzymes that can potentially be
identified as amylase, protease, or none of the two. The goal established for this experiment is to
discover the identities of the three enzymes by conducting two specific diagnostic arrays (Ninhydrin
and Benedict s Test) upon polysaccharide and protease solutions that contain one of the three
unknown solution. Through these experiments, we searched for the presence of monomers to
determine if one of the three enzymes catalyzed exergonic reactions that would help indicate its
identification.
If we conduct a Ninhydrin Test upon a mixture between a protein solution and an unknown enzyme
and the results display the presence of free amino acids, then the enzyme would be protease. If we
conduct a Benedict s Test upon a mixture between a polysaccharide solution and an unknown enzyme
and the results display the presence of monosaccharides, then the enzyme would be amylase

contained polysaccharide solution. Three vials contained one of the three ... Show more content on

The Treatment Of Antibiotic Resistance
Antibiotic Resistance occurs when bacteria reformat themselves in order to become unaffected by the
drugs or substances created to terminate them. They gain resistance to the drugs which causes the
drugs to be ineffective of use and leading to more harm. Antibiotic Resistance commonly occurs
within patients due to physicians misusing or overusing antibiotics. This creates a common resistance
to patients and resulting in the constant creation for new antibiotics that would treat the bacteria. The
main conflict generally evolves from medical stewardship where physicians have the responsibility to
optimally heal their patients to their best efforts. However this is being neglected by misuse of
antibiotics due to several reasons, including patients ignorance and fear of malpractice. The authors in

An Analysis of Business Intelligence Systems
This report is an analysis of business intelligence systems currently available to our business. As an
introduction, I will address in general terms why we need to purchase a business intelligence system
and how it will aid our business. Then I will discuss several applications in detail, paying particular
attention to the information and analysis capabilities of each, and the hardware and software required
for each. Finally, I will conclude with a short evaluation of the products discussed and offer a
recommendation as to the best application for our business. I will pay particular attention to IBM,
Microsoft, SAP, and Oracle. First off, why do we need a business intelligence system for our
business? Simply put, an effective ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a SAP environment, the Cognos application helps consolidate and make more efficient the
reporting, planning, and scorecarding functions. Finally, in an Oracle environment the Cognos
application effectively combines with already existing Oracle and PeopleSoft databases, gateways,
and applications to allow for a virtually seamless integration. From an integration standpoint, Cognos
seems to be the business intelligence application that readily fits into almost any existing environment.
I looked at IBM next. IBM is a well recognized and established name in Information Technology. It
offers a broad business intelligence application capability, so consequently we need to decide exactly
where our data management needs really lie. IBM can offer wide ranging consulting services from
incorporating specific software applications to solve specific needs, to totally overhauling our already
existing IT architecture and business intelligence system to make it more efficient. As already stated,
IBM relies on Cognos for some of its business intelligence applications and these seem to be easily
integrated with almost any other environment. Additionally, Cognos offers the most popular OLAP
software used today. Oracle was the next company that I looked at. As already stated above, Oracle is
closely associated with Hyperion applications, although it does offer a very comprehensive business

Pathological Consideration Of Acute Chest Pain Essay
PATHOLOGICAL CONSIDERATION OF ACUTE CHEST PAIN
Chest pain is among the most every now and again assessed introducing complaints in the emergency
department (ED). Diagnostic etiologies range from benign to life debilitating. Inability to diagnose the
life debilitating chest emergencies can prompt to catastrophic medical and legal results for the patient
and physician separately (Boie, 2005).
The first approach to assessing chest pain incorporates excluding life threatening reasons, which for
the most part incorporate (1)coronary artery disease (Kettunen and Talvensaari ,2009) (2)acute aortic
syndrome (AAS) (3)pulmonary embolism (PE) (4)esophageal rupture (5)tension pneumothorax and
(6)pericardial tamponade (Butler and Swencki, 2006). I Pathology of Pulmonary embolism (PE):
As the third most common reason of cardiovascular death after myocardial ischemia and stroke,
pulmonary embolism (PE) is a conceivably fatal condition connected with significant morbidity and
mortality (Araoz et al., 2007).
PE and DVT are two clinical presentations of venous thrombo embolism and offer the same
predisposing factors. In many cases PE is a result of DVT (Pitts et al., 2008).
Thrombi generally form in the deep veins of the calf and after that propagate into the proximal veins,
including and above the popliteal veins, from which they will properly embolize. Around 79% of
patients who present with pulmonary embolism have

Effect Of Sucrose Concentration On Potato Osmosis
Research question:
What is the Osmolarity (solute concentration) of potato tubers deduce by measuring the loss or gain in
mass of samples immersed in sucrose solutions of different concentrations for 24 hours? The
concentrations of sucrose solution are 0.0mol 〖dm〗^( 3), 0.2mol 〖dm〗^( 3), 0.4mol 〖dm〗^(
3), 0.6mol 〖dm〗^( 3), 0.8mol 〖dm〗^( 3), and 1.0 mol 〖dm〗^( 3).
Hypothesis:
When plant tissues are immersed in sucrose solutions of different concentration, the cells will gain or
lose water by osmosis and therefore change in size and mass. If the potato samples are immersed with
hypertonic solution, the mass of samples will be reduced as the hypertonic solution has a higher solute
concentration which makes the water move towards it. If the potato ... Show more content on

Osmosis is the passive trend of a fluid, usually water, to pass through partially permeable membrane
into a higher concentration of sucrose to equalize the concentrations of solution on either side of the
membrane. Factors affecting the rate of osmosis include temperature, surface area, and size of
particles and concentration of the sucrose.
Potatoes are generally grown from other potatoes by planting another piece of potato. This planted
potato has several slightly recessed, dormant buds on the surface which will sprout at the right
condition and the sprouts can develop into independent plant. The planted potato provides the new
sprout or seedling with nutrition from its supply of stored starch. After a seed is planted, the main stem
and first leaves appear above ground. The root system progresses quickly and begins to absorb
nutrients. The top, where it has most leaves of the plant puts on a lot of growth. Then the growing of
main stem of the plant ends producing a flower bud. When this happens, the plant will have many
leaves causing them to eventually produce more nutrients than the plant needs, making excess energy
to channel downward to be stored in the tubers which are thick, short, underground stems. They are

The Remarkable British Empire
Over a number of centuries, The British Empire colonized or invaded all but 22 countries in the world.
This is an astonishing feat that would make ancient empire leaders such as Remesses II or Genghis
Khan bow down to the power of the British. Since the Middle Ages, The Royal Class in England
desired a wide variety of exotic spices. The merchants were under so much pressure to try to satisfy
the high demand, that they resorted to committing criminal acts such as piracy in order to fulfill the
demand of the royal class.
In order to truly understand the roots and culture of the British Empire one must imagine themselves
in 400 BC and as a member of one of the countless Celtic tribes that existed in Britain. The land
beneath your feet is some of the most diverse soil in all of Europe and the landscape is full of trees and
grassy plains. In the book British Food by Colin Spencer, Great Britain s very fertile and rich soil
allowed the possibility for grass to grow year round allowing livestock to graze green pastures, even in
the winter time. Great Britain s soil allowed grains such as barley, rye, and wheat to grow in
abundance. The Celts would use these grains to produce bread which became the staple of many
Celtic and then, Anglo Saxon diets (14).
The Celtic people were very fond of seasoning their foods with local ingredients such as onions,
garlic, shallots and parsley which grew plentifully in their fertile soil. The idea of seasoning meals
with local ingredients

Biblical Worldviews
God created out of love the whole universe in a majestic way. He wants us not only to enjoy His
precious resources and satisfy our wants and needs, but also to increase and improve what we have
and not decrease or diminish it. God entrusted us with everything we have and He can call us to
account at any time, that is why we have to be well prepared for this call.
God gives humans the privilege to rule this world and to use His resources wisely and purposefully. In
Genesis 1:26, God said, Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the
fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures
that move along the ground (Genesis 1:26, NIV).

Humans are the biggest enemy of the Earth and they are the most polluting species. Earth is very good
at recycling waste, but we are generating far more than earth can handle. Pollution happens at different
levels and it does not just impact our planet; it impacts all species, including mankind, who dwell on it
(Patterson, n.d.). A group of scientists from McGill University recently published a paper in which
they identified the environmentalist s paradox that affirms, over the past 40 years, human wellbeing
has been steadily improving while natural ecosystems have been declining (p.

The Decline of Blockbuster Entertainment
The Decline of Blockbuster Entertainment
How could a company that was built into a multibillion dollar empire fail less than two decades later?
Blockbuster Entertainment started with one store in Dallas in 1985 and rose up to become the
dominant force in the movie rental industry. They were acquired by Viacom, at the pinnacle of their
success, for $8.4 billion in 1994 and were in bankruptcy by 2010. A series of blunders by upper
management, highlighted by a lack of strategic vision, led to Blockbuster s rapid decline and ultimate
failure.
In 2000 Blockbuster had the opportunity to purchase rival, Netflix but failed to envision Netflix s
potential. The founder of Netflix, Reed Hastings, met with then CEO of Blockbuster, John Antioco, to

In turn Blockbuster was left buried in debt, with an antiquated infrastructure and no means to improve
it.
In 2005 Blockbuster eliminated late fees due to it being their number one customer complaint. In an
ironic twist, Reed Hastings had founded Netflix after incurring a $40 late fee for returning the movie
Apollo 13 late to his local Blockbuster. Ending late fees would cost Blockbuster nearly $400 million
in yearly profits. This now placed them in a position where they no longer had the cash flow to pay
down their debt obligations, and with the reduction in profits they were also unable to reinvest in their
company. With the end to late fees customers began to keep their rentals longer. This resulted in a new
number one customer complaint of titles always being out of stock. Red Box, founded in 2003, would
be the finishing knockout punch to Blockbuster. Already reeling from customer losses to Netflix,
Blockbuster management failed, once again, to realize the potential of a new delivery system, the
kiosk. Blockbuster had investigated kiosk delivery systems even before Red Box was introduced.
They chose to instead believe that human interaction would keep their customer base intact. Red box s
initial price of $1 a day rentals was a big consumer draw in comparison to Blockbusters $5 fee.
Blockbuster tried to roll out trials of a new price

Provide the class with the details of the project (location, acres restored, methods used, species
benefited if available, etc.). Be sure to integrate what you find with what you are learning in your text
and other readings and supplement it with additional research.
ALSO, as September 17th is Constitution Day, I want you to reflect on this and comment on it in your
forums for this week. The preamble of the US Constitution directs the Federal Government to promote
the general welfare .... secure the blessings of liberty . ..and protect ourselves and our posterity . When
thinking about our obligation to protect the environment (e.g., plants, animals, habitat, ecosystem
services), can a case be made that we are constitutionally bound to do so based on the quotes I gave
you? What do you think? If so, how does that play into our responsibility to conserve and restore the
environment? If not, why not?
For this week s forum, after searching for wetlands restoration, I found a local wetlands restoration
project that was completed in November 2011 and encompassed an area of 150 acres. The San
Dieguito Wetland Restoration Project included the coastal area of San Dieguito Lagoon and the San
Dieguito River Park estuarine and riverine wetland systems, respectively which serve an important
role in the local ecology. They provide a stop for birds along the Pacific Flyway, nesting and foraging
areas for endangered species and serve as a fish hatchery.

The Fate of the True Woman in The Blithedale Romance
The female characters in Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Blithedale Romance, Zenobia and Priscilla,
differ in their representations of womanhood. Zenobia begins as an independent character, whom later
surrenders to Hollingsworth s control, whereas Priscilla is ever submissive to his desires. This
determines how the male characters, Coverdale and Hollingsworth, view both women. Coverdale and
Hollingsworth are first enamored by Zenobia s charm, but both fall for Priscilla s docility. Zenobia
represents female independence and Priscilla embodies feminine subservience; the triumph of Priscilla
casts the male vote in this novel unanimously ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Coverdale describes her as being like a flower shrub that had done its best to blossom in too scanty
light (Hawthorne 27). The only time she appears truly aroused is when she hears Zenobia and
Coverdale discussing the idea of women in power, and distraught, asserts she cannot think this is true
and does not wish it so (Hawthorne 122). Priscilla is only agitated by one concept the destruction of
the True Woman.
In the beginning, both Hollingsworth and Coverdale are enamored by Zenobia Hollingsworth by her
wealth and Coverdale by her beauty. It is apparent that wealth is Hollingsworth s true attraction to
Zenobia since the realization that she is not rich is what drives them apart. She says to him, I was
willing to realize your dream . . . though it should prove the ruin of my fortune; however, when she
has no fortune to ruin he no longer wants her (Hawthorne 217).
Coverdale claims that he is attracted to Zenobia s intelligence and independence. When she relates her
plans to lecture on behalf of women s rights, he thinks it surely behoved [sic] Zenobia to be the
champion of her sex (Hawthorne 123). It seems, however, that he is mostly attracted to her physical
charms. He alludes to her beauty often, and even ventures to say that something in her manner,
irresistibly brought up a picture of that fine, perfectly developed figure in Eve s earliest garment
(Hawthorne 17). Such allusions, combined with his later betrayal, indicate that his attraction is

Family Guy Vs The Simpsons
Most Americans watch TV daily. Some have television shows that they watch religiously, while others
rarely turn the television on. Television is a great past time, and it has grown greatly since it was first
successfully demonstrated in 1927. If finding a good show to watch on TV were difficult for someone,
they may turn to Google or their Facebook friends for suggestions. The Simpsons would be a good
choice for an older audience and someone who enjoys more family oriented subjects; but Family Guy
would be the better choice for someone with a crude sense of humor, the younger generation, those
who enjoy the references from their own generation, and political or cultural jokes. For one thing, The
Simpsons bases their jokes and humorous antics

Del Hardy s The Light In The Forest Book
The Light in the Forest book was about an Indian boy, True Son being forced to return to his white
parents that lived in Pennsylvania. True Son went back to his white parents and his younger brother,
after being an Indian for eleven years in Ohio. With him was a white soldier, Del Hardy that spoke the
Delaware language. Myra Butler, Harry Butler, and Gordie Butler were excited for his return. When
he arrived home, his Aunt Kate disliked True Son and his customs. His Uncle Wilse made fun of his
language and his people. Uncle Wilse hated True Son what he was, an Indian and slapped True Son.
True Son got into a lot of conflicts with other whites because of his Indian mindset. Half Arrow, True
Son s cousin found him on white territory. True Son and Half Arrow stole multiple things from True
Son s uncle. Half Arrow and True Son ran away together in the forest. They both stayed in the forest
until they came to their tribe again. True Son met with his Indian father, Cuyloga. The Lenni Lenape
planned an attack against the whites. The Lenni Lenape sent True Son in to attract the whites. Once
the whites were close enough, True Son warned them to go back. Since True Son did that, he ... Show

difference was that True Son had no other siblings in the movie. In the book he had a younger brother
named Gordie. To go along with character difference, there was a servant to Aunt Kate and Uncle
Wilse in the movie named Shenandoah. Another difference was that True Son s mother put on a dance
for True Son so, that he could meet a girl and fancy her. At the party, Myra Butler put a ring in the

Han Dynasty And The Western Roman Empire
Although in different regions of the world and with cultural differences, the same problems plagued
both the Han Dynasty and the Western Roman Empire, significantly contributed to their downfall.
Some similar causes were pressure from barbarians and poor leadership which affected s their
empires. However similar, they were starkly different in areas such as the religious divide that served
to weaken Western Rome that did not exist in China.
One factor they played a role in the fall of both empires was poor leadership in their empires. During
the final days of Western Rome, there was no strong unifying leader in place due to the number of
generals that would claim leader then be quickly killed off. Rome s military were only loyal to their
generals, and when the generals would gather the power to overthrow the current rule, they were not
well received by the public or the rest of the army. They did not unify they public and the government
under strong rule, causing discord and distrust amongst the people. This lead to many revolts and
needless violence that hurt the empire. Similarly, in the Han Dynasty, the lack of strong leaders caused
people to become unsatisfied with their government. The people did not follow the will of their
leaders and the aristocrats refused to pay taxes and support the government. Like Rome, this lack of
poor leadership lead to revolts and needless violence that would ultimately hurt their citizens, military,
and entirety of their empires.

Pros And Cons Of The Two Party System
Left Wing, Right Wing, Broken Wing
Have you ever considered the American government is corrupt, even though they claim to uphold
certain American values? The two party system is just that: corrupt. Right now, the government offers
two parties, and even though it has its benefits, it has a lot more weaknesses. Although the two party
system offers stability and accessibility for citizens, it is broken and needs to be drastically changed
for the government to be actually of the people, by the people, for the people. The two party system
was born after the American revolution, when our representatives for each colony chose sides between
federalists and antifederalists. This later became what we know today as the Democratic party and the

The two party system needs to be changed or completely abolished, because it offers limited ideas and
opinions to run the country. The two parties have their own perspectives on issues such as gun control
or abortion; Craig Goodman of the University of Houston claims he doesn t think it s very democratic.
Why should you exclude someone because they are a small number, and they don t get to express
themselves? (Cargo 1). The two party does not allow the middle ground or smaller parties to really
have a say (Mathias 4). Most voters only know the leading independent and the two party nominees.
Kate Cargo describes the two party system leaves voter with low quality ideas and frankly, low quality
candidates (Cargo 1) while the third party candidate could have a great compromise on a hot issue, it
will never see the light of day. While the two party system does allow people to have easy access to
the opinions of the parties on these issues, it does not make up for the limited options we have. As a
country we need to have as many options as possible even if they are extreme. Accessibility is
important, but it should never limit our options.
Along with giving us limited opinions and ideas, the two party system often offers a repeat of
candidates. Hillary Clinton has ran for the office of president

Advantages Of The First Mover Vs. Market Follower
1.0 First Mover Vs. Market Follower
1.1 What is First Mover?
It is a form of competitive advantage that a company gain its fame and money by being the first to
enter a specific market or industry. Being the first often allows a company to acquire superior brand
recognition, as well as customer loyalty. The company also has more time to make perfect its product
or services before other competitors come along.
For examples of first movers include innovative companies such as eBay and Coca Cola. eBay was
the first company to take auctions process online in 1995. Coca Cola in the other place was the first
cola producer whom started off selling cough mixture but then realized consumers prefer drinking it as
soda, hence came up with the idea to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to be a first mover, an organisation must be a pioneer batch of business ideas, and this means
incurring costs in terms of time and investment. For example Sony, technology must be invented,
distribution systems have to be established and knowledge about new markets must be learned from
scratch, sometimes it may be painful. For those who comes later to the market, the costs of acquiring
all this knowledge can be much lower: products can be reverse engineered to discover their secrets
and then improved on or experienced staff can be head hunted from the first mover firm to impart and
share their knowledge and etc.
3.0 Benefits of Market Follower
Reduce risks
By focusing on what works and what does not. Hence will not repeat the costly mistakes of
competitors but yet still grows its customer base.
Avoid extra costs
Imitation can be just as effective and profitable as innovation. Market leaders take on costs of research
and development, distribution, and consumer education. However a market follower piggybacks on
the tactics that work best for the leader and gain its opportunity to appeal in a competitor s consumer
base. Instead of trying to be the best or most popular company, a market follower focuses on leverages
its own successes to grow the business.
Capitalize on the successes of market

An animal that would take care of your house when nobody was home and protect the owners from
burglars from breaking in. This movement or trend started forming in recent years. As Cesar Chavez
once quoted, We need in a special way , to work twice as hard to help people understand that the
animals are fellow creatures , that we must protect and love them as we love ourselves Animals today
have as much equal rights as family members today. As many more pet parents are adopting and
falling in love with these animals and being able to connect with them on an emotional level, Pet
parents are able to relate and equate animals to human children. Many more couples are finding
themselves with fewer children or not wanting to have the burden of raising actual children. As a
result this trend keeps growing. Another reason that people are starting to see the increasing number in
this trend is some adults are finding themselves with the loneliness, where the children they once had
are moving away. These animals are feeling a void of loneliness. According to a recent survey done by
Stanley Cohen about eighty one percent of people do not consider themselves to be just a pet owner,
but a pet parent and treating their pets equal to their children.

  • 2. Importance Of Learning A Foreign Language Essay Learning a foreign language involves developing new skills and going through different stages. The four skills you need to develop are listening, speaking, reading, and writing. You need to be able to understand when someone speaks the language you are learning. In addition to that, you need to be able to express yourself in that language. Most of the time, the written language is more complex than the spoken language. You want to be able to understand a text you read. Moreover, you want to be able to express your ideas in writing, with the right words and correct grammar. Acquiring these four skills requires various study patterns. Building Vocabulary First of all, you need to build vocabulary. Building vocabulary involves learning the meaning of the words, their spelling, and pronunciation. Unlike in English, each word has a gender in many languages like French, Spanish, and German. You need to memorize the gender of a word in order to use it correctly. You also need to learn the conjugations of verbs and adjectives. That is where you cross the border between the vocabulary and grammar. Studying Grammar In order to learn a foreign language, you need to study its grammar, the structural rules of a language. Most of the time, grammar is a complicated subject to understand, to learn, and to use correctly. To make things even more complicated, you will need to memorize the exceptions to the grammar rules you learn. Reading If you have sufficient vocabulary and a good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Republican Party supported the continuation of the Reconstruction of the South, while Grant stood on the platform of just having peace. The Democrats nominated Horatio Seymour. Grant won the election of 1868. The Era of Good Stealings Jim Fisk and Jay Gould devised a plot to drastically raise the price of the gold market in 1869. On Black Friday, September 24, 1869, the two bought a large amount of gold, planning to sell it for a profit. In order to lower the high price of gold, the Treasury was forced to sell gold from its reserves. Boss Tweed employed bribery, graft, and fraudulent elections to milk New York of as much ... Democrats were found in the South and in the northern industrial cities. A Stalwart faction led by Roscoe Conkling supported the system of swapping civil servant jobs for votes. (Giving someone a job if they vote for a specific party/cause. Spoils system ) Opposed to the Stalwarts were the Half Breeds, led by James G. Blaine. The main disagreement between the two groups was over who would give the jobs to the people who voted in their favor. The Hayes Tilden Standoff, 1876 Congress passed a resolution that reminded the country, and Grant, of the two term tradition for presidency after Grant was speculating about running for a 3rd term. The Republicans chose Rutherford B. Hayes as their presidential candidate for the election of 1876. The Democrats chose Samuel J. Tilden. In the election, Tilden won the popular vote, but was 1 vote shy from winning in the Electoral College. The determining electoral votes would come from three states, Louisiana, South Carolina, and Florida who had each sent two sets of ballots to Congress, one with the Democrats victorious and the other with the Republicans victorious; there was no winner in these states. It was necessary to find the true political party winner of the states, although it was unknown who would judge the winner of the states because the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Examples Of Mistakes In American History Nobody is perfect, so everyone all makes mistakes. Human created history and even historical failures. Some people believe that we usually repeat what we did wrongly before. It sounds similar to the British author George Bernard Shaw s idea: We learn from history that we learn nothing from history. However, in my opinion, that idea is completely not correct, because we must learn something from the mistakes we made in the past, so that we would not do them one more time at the present or in the future. In my essay, I will use three examples from American history (from 1877 to the present) to disprove George Bernard Shaw s statement. They are all the mistakes which the American made in the past have not appeared until today. Firstly, Vietnam ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bush used to say a sentence which was very famous and seemed as his promise. That was Read my lips: No new taxes . However, in June 1990 Bush abandoned his Read my lips. No new taxes campaign pledge and acknowledged that new or increased taxes were necessary. Many Republican conservatives were critical of this shift, and his popularity ratings fell immediately. (8) On March 4, 1992, he said: I thought this one compromise, and it was a compromise, would result in no more tax increases. I thought it would result in total control of domestic discretionary spending. And now we see Congress talking about raising taxes again. And some in Congress are talking about trying to break down the spending caps. And so I m disappointed and given all of that, yes, a mistake. (9) Let s talk about an example of kept promises. Barak Obama promised to Extend the Bush tax cuts for lower incomes and he kept his word. He extended the Bush tax cuts for those making less than $250000 (couples) or $200000(single). (10) He promised to Create an Advanced Manufacturing Fund to invest in peer reviewed manufacturing processes, and once again he kept his word. As a president, it would be terrible if that president broke his promise to the public. Once he says something, he had better follow and do exactly the same as what he said. If not, his words will become unreliable. Barak Obama was the 44th president of the United States, and it seemed that he learned a mistake from the 41st president or we can say, from the ... They also have kaolin which is a white type of clay. They try to stay away from working with the kaolin because it s sticky and hard to deal with. They also do very little frac mining. The frac mining process has several steps. Before frac mining can began all vegetation must be removed from the area. Then to reach the target sandstone, all unwanted rock layers has to be removed. Thirdly the top of the sandstone has to be exposed and since frac sand is cemented together explosive charges has to be placed inside holes drilled near the edge of the mine so the sandstone can break into small pieces. Then loaders are driven in to scoop up sandstones from near the wall of the mine pit. After the loaders scoop up the sandstones they send the sandstones to a crusher which breaks down the large chunks into individual sand grains. Sand grains are then washed to remove any unwanted particles. Once it has been washed, it is stockpiled for drying, sorting, and the final shipment. After the final shipment mine reclamation is started which is when the mined pit is filled back up with rocks and other materials that were not used from the sandstones and the new surface eventually be replanted. • 8. Rhetorical Analysis Of Patrick Henry s Speech To The... A Rhetorical Analysis of Patrick Henry s Speech To The Virginia Convention The prominent patriot Patrick Henry once said, I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death! (Henry 7) implying that a life without liberty is not a righteous life. Henry s quote is included in his popular oratory Speech to the Virginia Convention. While discussing with the colonists, Henry lists all of the discrepancies the thirteen colonies had with Great Britain, concluding that there is no other option, but to retaliate instantaneously. In Patrick Henry s Speech to the Virginia Convention, he utilizes amplifying loaded words and coherent parallelism in order to influence the assembly to unify and reciprocate. Throughout the entirety of his speech, Henry presents amplifyingamplifyling loaded words to bring to attention the predicament between the two opposing sides. The purpose of loaded words are terms to influence by utilizing positive or negative connotations. For example, Henry claims in paragraph five, We have petitioned; we have remonstrated; we have supplicated... (Henry 5). He particularly targets the verb of the sentences by altering their meaning, to add a kick to the phrase. Rather than state, We have asked; we have protested, we have begged, Henry offers more potent terms, such as petitioned, remonstrated and supplicated, to emphasize how perilous the situation between the two countries is, compelling them to take action. He continues to go forth near the end in the paragraph seven stating It is in vain, sir, to extenuate the matter (Henry 7). Again he focuses on the verb, in this case, extenuate to accentuate the seriousness of the dilemma by pleading to the audience that now is the time to act, rather than wait or else matters will only get more grave. Henry uses amplifying loaded words in his declamation to his advantage to persuade, almost deceive, in order to oblige his audience to take matters into their own hands. Patrick Henry displays coherent parallelism in order to highlight the hardships the colonies had to endure while fusing balance and technique in doing so. Parallelism, or parallel structure, is a literary method defined as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Evolution of the European Council Introduction To fully appreciate the position of the European Council within the European Union we first took a brief look at how the European Union came about. The European project first started soon after the second world with the creation of the ECSC (European Coal and Steel Community) to harmonise relations between the Nations of Europe and to prevent any further conflicts of the scale of the wars that had preceded its creation. The new spirit of cooperation aimed to bring about a new era of peace and prosperity across Europe. The founding nations were Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands and Luxemburg. Step 4 came in the shape of the Amsterdam Treaty which reaffirmed the powers and responsibilities given to the Council within the Maastricht Treaty. It then extended these powers and responsibilities with regards to the EMU and CFSP. The Nice Treaty was step 5 wherein it gave the Council the power to nominate the person to be put forward for the position of President of the European Commission. The final and sixth step came in the form of the Lisbon Treaty when the European Council was established as a fully fledged institution of the European Union. The Lisbon Treaty stated The European Council consists of the Heads of State and Government of the Member States and is an official institution of the Union (Article I 21) (Europa.eu, 2012). This treaty changed the structure of membership of the European Council. Before the Lisbon treaty the membership was a two tiered system. The first tier consisted of the heads of state or government of the member states and the president of the commission. The second tier consisted of the foreign ministers of each member state and one other member of the commission. Before the Lisbon treaty only two members per delegation were permitted to attend meetings of the council. This was to promote a more relaxed and informal atmosphere than that in council of ministers. • 10. Messages About Morality and Politics Conveyed in... A morality play is a medieval play designed to teach the audience right from wrong. JB Priestley uses An Inspector call to convey a moral message, which is that you should not judge people on their class i.e. lower working class/higher class. He also expands the views of socialism within the message; this is all made very clear by the use of dramatic devices. Although it is a morality play it is not in the traditional format. Priestley makes it very clear in what he wants the audience to think is moral and immoral. The play also conveys a strong political message. The play encourages the idea of socialism, a society in which responsibility and community are essential, also a place where the community all work together and are responsible ... Shelia could symbolise envy as she was jealous or Eva smith as she thought she was pretty and look better that she did in the dress. Gerald could symbolise lust, as he had an affair with Eva. Being able to point out that the Birlings can be identified as the sins shows the audience how JB Priestley highlights the idea that capitalism is itself a sin. This is also why the genre of an inspector calls is a morality play. Two of the Birlings show a positive reaction to The Inspectors message, who are Eric and Shelia, however Mr and Mrs Birling give a negative reaction. Priestley uses the generation divide to show how the younger generation symbolise hope for the future. Priestley shows that Eric and Shelia regret what they have done, which suggests they will make an effort to improve their relationships with others, especially towards the general public such as Eva Smith. However their parents are the complete opposite, they are only interested in their wealth and material items. Priestley sets out a sequence of stage directions at the beginning of the play, he applies them successfully as a dramatic device. He uses the stage directions to show the audience that the Birling family are cold and distant, and how supposedly capitalism has affected their lives. Highlighting he gap between ... The film believably adds to the motivations and actions of the characters. For instance, in the first two films Captain Jack Sparrow struggles with whether to do what is right or to do what he wants. In the first movie, he saves Elizabeth from drowning, but then threatens her in an escape attempt. In the second film, he is willing to send one hundred people to Davy Jones to save himself from having to serve aboard Jones ship. In this film, he has the opportunity to become the immortal captain of the Flying Dutchman. Jack Sparrow loves the sea and the freedom it gives him, but he gives up this chance to allow Will Turner to live. He chooses to do the right thing at the end of this film, showing that he is deep down a good man, albeit with many vices. Elizabeth also grows in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Green Mountain Coffee Roasters By David Einhorn Executive Summary Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (GMCR), a Vermont based coffee roaster and distributor has been under fire publicly by David Einhorn, founder and fund manager of New York hedge fund company Greenlight Capital. Mr. Einhorn has suggested that Green Mountain Coffee Roasters is over valued based on their unscrupulous accounting and reporting principles. Despite impending expiring patents, Mr. Einhorn has identified that GMRC is in violation of US GAAP standards. Overstatement of inventory, overstatement of income, inaccurate inventory costs and failure to reverse accruals to the customer incentive program has been alleged against GMRC, thus inflating GMRC s overall value. As a result of Mr. Einhorn s whistleblowing, GMRC s stock price has fallen including lost market value. In my opinion, Mr. Einhorn was correct in his allegations against GMRC. To gain consumer and market confidence, GMRC must follow GAAP standards, and ensure preventive mechanisms are in place in order to ensure public mistrust is mitigated that is inclusive to ethical, transparent reporting. BACKGROUND OF THE COMPANY Green Mountain Coffee Roasters is located in Vermont, United States of America. Crimes against humanity is a problem that has repeated itself through history and is still occurring in the present world today. How countries, that are in a place of power, should or should not respond to these crimes is a controversial issue that numerous people differ on opinion. Some argue that nations should act according to their own national interest and do what is best for their country, including not doing anything at all. Other s have a belief in which countries that are in a place to intervene should do so. This could be with a forceful militaristic approach. Any crime against humanity should not be tolerated in this view. Another opinion is that in crisis situations, a collective effort by an international community, such as the United Nations, should be the people who respond and resolve the conflict. This takes out individualizing countries, and creates an international effort. Over the course of history many diverse actions have been taken in response to a crime against humanity. Some examples as to why an international community or a country should intervene with full force and right away are through the Ukraine Famine, the Rwandan Genocide, and the Armenian Genocide. • 15. Gabriela Cowperthwaite Blackfish Controversy Exaggeration and Manipulation Undermine Blackfish s Credibility Gabriela Cowperthwaite s activist documentary, Blackfish, spurred a significant public dialogue following its 2013 premier. The film centers on the role of Tilikum, an orca whale at SeaWorld, in the deaths of three SeaWorld trainers, including, most recently, Dawn Brancheau. Cowperthwaite follows a suit brought against Sea World by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), weaving together testimony of scientists, former trainers, and family members of the deceased, among others, to make a compelling case against SeaWorld s practice of holding and performing alongside orcas. Nevertheless, after its release, the film drew criticism from some of its participants as well as Sea World itself. Cowperthwaite claims not to have tried to vilify SeaWorld. However, this claim seems dubious given the film s fairly evident anti SeaWorld bias. On its website, SeaWorld asserts that several key points made in Blackfish are untrue. The goal established for this experiment is to discover the identities of the three enzymes by conducting two specific diagnostic arrays (Ninhydrin and Benedict s Test) upon polysaccharide and protease solutions that contain one of the three unknown solution. Through these experiments, we searched for the presence of monomers to determine if one of the three enzymes catalyzed exergonic reactions that would help indicate its identification. If we conduct a Ninhydrin Test upon a mixture between a protein solution and an unknown enzyme and the results display the presence of free amino acids, then the enzyme would be protease. If we conduct a Benedict s Test upon a mixture between a polysaccharide solution and an unknown enzyme and the results display the presence of monosaccharides, then the enzyme would be amylase Experiment To determine if any of the unknown enzymes was amylase, we set up five tubes that each contained polysaccharide solution.
