Prospect Theory
Summary of the learning points (ranked by importance to you) Today s class discussed the mental
accounting for money management. 1.Prospect theory. The theory can be represented by a value
function, as shown below. The value function starts from a reference point, and is normally
concave for gains, and convex for losses. It is also steeper for losses than for gains. The theory
intends to explain why people behave irrationally when making choices. 2.Framing effect. It refers
to the difference in response to the same question represented in different ways. This technique is
frequently used in marketing ads campaign, such as PAD. 3.Sunk Cost effect. When people have
put effort into something, they are often... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Secondly, according to mental accounting, we assign value and goal for money in each account.
We also set aside some expected gain before we make any investment. As long as we meet our
target, then we can relocate the money for some other accounts. By investing money long term,
we forgo the opportunity to enjoy the gain in short term. (2) Gift card I just realized the gift card
is another combination of framing and sunk cost effect. Even though I received the gift card, I
didn t pay for it, whoever gave I to me did spend money in that store. There are two scenarios on
how to spend the gift card money. On one hand, I view it as free money and spend it on luxury
items, which I would not normally buy; usually I pay for the excess amount out of my own
pocket. So I spend more than I should. Or on the other hand, I forgot about the card. Most of the
gift card has fine print which states the expiration date. Lots of people do not notice this, and forgo
the opportunity to claim the amount. Money does not expire; gift card does. Framing enables the
company to put a time limit on the

The Impact Of Sports On Women s Sports
Traditionally men have dominated the world of sports however in recent year s women s sports
have become popular and with their new found popularity, women s sports have evolved into
marketable leagues of their own. Although women s sports took a huge leap forward, women
players still don t receive the same financial compensation for playing the same sports in the same
arenas as their male counterparts. In Purse Snatching by Donna Lopiano, she points out sexism may
have a huge effect on this financial discrepancy between women and men athletes. Analyzing sports
economics may point to a different reason why women are receiving such a compensation disparity.
Women sports have come a long way, since the days when women were only allowed to watch.
The past three decades have witnessed a steady growth in women s sports programs in America
along with a remarkable increase in the number of women athletes (Daniel Frankl 2) From an
early age women were thought to be Lady Like ; they are told not to get all sweaty and dirty. Over
200 years later since Maud Watson stepped on the tennis courts of Wimbledon (Sports Media
digest 3); women now compete in all types and levels of sports from softball to National racing.
Soccer fans saw Mia Hamm become the face of Women s soccer around the world , Venus and
Serena Williams are two of the most popular figures in tennis, and Indy car racing had their first
woman racer, Danika Patrick. With all the fame generated by these women in their

Chinese Immigrants And The United States
Introduction to Chinese Americans
The beginning of Chinese immigration to the United States first started in the 19th century, the
political unrest and economic pressures in China and the Gold Rush era in California prompted
thousands of Chinese immigrants to migrate to the United States to search for temporary work,
and to seek for the dreams of gold in the 1850s. Many of them arrived in America hoping to
acquired wealth to send money back to support their families and hoping to return back to their
home after a few years with wealth, but some of them entered the United States for freedom.
Through decades and decades of struggles and isolation, this immigrant group were finally able to
find a secure place in the life of this nation. The Chinese immigrants are now the third largest
immigrant group in the United States, the graph below shows the population growth in United
States from 1980 to 2013, which in 2013 the Chinese immigrant population had reached over more
than 2 million and comprising 5 percent of the overall immigrant population (Hooper and Batalova,
2015).
Chinese immigrant s arrival in the United States
Many Chinese immigrants entered the United States as legal immigrant, half of them obtain lawful
permanent residence in the United States through family channels, and this traces back to the early
1980s, where most of the Chinese immigrants are originated from Guangdong, China, because of
the province s strong historical connection with Chinese America.

Business Plan (Record Company)
Business Plan: Starting an Independent Record Label Introduction First of all I am setting down
the employees of Les Incompetentsв„ў . There are three of us: The Label manager (who is
responsible for running the label), an A R (the talent scout who mentors the artist through to
final recording) and a business developer (who is responsible for the business deals). Although
every one of us has a specific title, being a small independent label, we all work on every issue.
The funding of the label came from our personal funding (representing 85% of our funding). I, the
head of the label brought 55% of the full funding, the two other equally brought 15% each of
personal funding into the label. Three of our friends (5% each) came in... Show more content on

The contract can be found at the end of the document, Appendix A. So we own the copyright in
the recordings for a minimum of five (5) years. RECORDING The album will be recorded at
Urchin Studios in London (www.urchinstudios.co.uk), new studios since 2007, price remains
affordable without letting go of the quality side. They are operating with Strokes producer Gordon
Raphael. As past clients they have had Emmy The Great, Skin, Jeremy Warmsley, Transgressive
Records. We will operate on a daily fee of ВЈ200 for a 9 hour day inclusive of all equipment and
engineer; we have to look at problems such as overtime which will cost us ВЈ30 per hour or such
as additional cost hours after 9pm which are at engineer s discretion. It would be lovely to work in
Pinna Studios (www.pinnaproductions.com) but much more expensive. Lately these studios have
seen the likes of the Kills, Razorlight, MTV, Endemol but the costs are much higher so they will
be hopefully used as future reference. Just to se the differences, their daily rate is 350ВЈ all
services included but only for an eight hour day. Another solution would be recording the album in
Paris as the Band is French at studioras (http://studioras.free.fr/). They are a new studio and the
daily costs would be 28O€ with engineer for an eight hour day which roughly represents 220£. I
thought that recording was going to be much cheaper if done in France but after

The Case Of A Contract
Page 180 1) The court viewed the situation as if a reasonable individual would consider the offer as
valid. Zehmer s outward expressions and words constituted a genuine offer to sell. The outwardly
demonstrated intent is all the court looks at, not the secret and inward thought of the defendant. A
contract cannot be done in passing or when absent minded. Both parts have to come to mutual
understanding and agreement (Melvin, 2011). Lucy demonstrated her intent by ensuring that
details were in the contract (illustrated by several drafts that were written), and by ensuring both
husband and wife signed the contract (Lucy v. Zehmer Case Brief Summary, 2015). 2) Had
Zehmer realized that Lucy took his offer seriously, he would have informed... Show more content on

Another point is that after a month and a fax requesting the written document, Chou answered
immediately and demonstrated that BTT was interested in a written contract. BTT had the
contract in their possession for several months to accept or reject, and did not. 2) The facts that
would weigh for Chou would be that both parties accepted the terms and continued operating as if
there were a contract. Second would be the fact that upon notification of further contract, Chou
prepared and delivered it immediately. It was BTT that deferred the signing without rejecting the
contract for several months. 3) The mail rule and their communication by faster email reveal that
they both had many opportunities within any given period to make adjustments, counter offers, or
even reject the deal without it going on for such a long period (Melvin, 2011). 4) Chou s neglect
to follow through with a contract could make the deal unenforceable. The statute of frauds
requires some information to be written down and signed. If the courts did not take the email that
spells out all the terms of the agreement sent by BTT to Chou as proof of all parties agreement, it
could be a dismissed lawsuit (Melvin, 2011). 5) BTT could avoid the contact under a doctrine of
mistake. However, it would be under the mutual mistake. The mistake that Chou

Africentric Alternative School Case Study
The expression separate but equal, is the philosophy in which was the foundation of racial
segregation in the late 19th and 20th centuries and is commonly referred to the Brown v. Board of
Education case. Separate but equal is the process of granting all citizens of the state the same rights
and freedoms but finding ways around the law that would allow racial discrimination to be applied
in all situations. However, separate but equalis not always a problematic circumstance, as the
Africentric Alternative School located in Toronto Ontario is an institution that was developed in
order to cease the trend of African descent students dropping out of school. This institution is not

principal of the school clearly states that all students will receive the same education that the
Toronto School Board required. The only difference is the school includes more African based
lessons within the curriculum. The school may be separate or different from other schools in the
Toronto district but still offer all students the same education and opportunities. Secondly, the
Africentric Alternative School also includes education of African topics to increase the students
pride within themselves. The school believes that if the students have a greater knowledge of their

Symphony amp; Utah Opera Proposed Merger Analysis Utah Symphony amp; Utah Opera
Proposed Merger Analysis In 2002, a proposal was made to merge the Utah Symphony and Utah
Opera due to the failing economy, collapsing of the stock market, declining government financial
support, and a waning of donations for the arts. The proposed merger would help both
organizations by economizing on costs and expanding the artistic potential of both organizations.
Each of the organizations need to support the decision in order for the merger to be successful.

Scott Parker can utilize Adam s equity theory to persuade Mrs. Abravanel to support the merger.
The equity theory in essence is when individuals seek to maintain equity based on the inputs
they produce and the outcomes they receive from their inputs as compared to others perceived
inputs and outcomes. A balance between inputs and outputs is strived for because it leads to
fairness and improved relations. Mrs. Abravanel s opposition to the merger could be because of
a perceived unfairness based on the efforts her husband put into to bringing the Utah Symphony
up to world class stature. Mrs. Abravanel sees the symphony as the dominant party in the merger.
This is apparent by Mrs. Abravanel s statement, Maurice would never take second billing to
anyone (Delong amp; Ager, 2005). Parker must show Mrs. Abravanel that the merger will help
alleviate some of the financial stress the symphony is facing and increase the success and
visibility of both organizations. In order to convince Mrs. Abravanel to support the merger,
Parker needs to explain the rationale behind the merger as well as understand why Mrs.
Abravanel sees the merger as unfair and inequitable. In order to sway Mrs. Abravanel to support
the merger, Parker can offer Mrs. Abravanel a seat to participate in the merger discussions. Mrs.
Abravanel s perceived unfairness would be assuaged by giving her a voice in the discussions

These spikes and troughs could be the result of price discounts that the company is offering due to
which customers are buying in bulk and stocking up on products. This could lead to variability in
demand, leading to excess demand or no demand that would lead to non efficient production by the
company. Root cause analysis should be performed, and if it is established that volume discounts
are leading to this phenomenon, it is recommended that the company minimize discounting and
work with the customers using a partnership model to ensure a steady demand. ANALYSIS 4
Category Analysis Analysis About 21% of total sales come from Beverages making it the largest
category of products, followed by dairy products, confections and meat/poultry. The other
categories are relatively smaller and the company can see at increasing their sales and offer them as
combinations with merger products that would help in increasing the category and overall sales of
the company. Graphic Recommendation To improve revenues and margins, the company will have
to increase the revenue contribution of every product category. I recommend that the company go
into its customer requirements and see if it can cross sell product items, so that it can get more
revenue from each customer. This will ensure that the company is able to offer competitive prices

Introduction:
As Gowthope (2005, p.148) said that: A budget is a plan, expressed in financial and/or more general
quantitative terms, which extends forward for a period into the future. Budgets are widely used in
organisations of all types and sizes. Budgeting actually refers to the process that, after the strategic
plan of the business has been made, companies made a short term plan (usually one year) to meet
the strategic purpose. Traditional budgeting has offered a lot of contributions in so many years‟
practice; no one has a better summary of all advantage of traditional budget as ... Show more

Traditional Budgeting Approach (TBA):
There are various methods to prepare a budget. Here we are concerned with the traditional approach
to budgeting known also as the incremental budgeting which involves basing next year‟s budget
on the current year‟s results plus an extra amount for estimated growth or inflation (APC309
Workbook, 2008).
It is claimed that in many organisations the traditional budgeting remains widespread, and that 99%
of European and US companies are using budgets and have no intention of abandoning them, it was
also stated that over 60% of those companies claim that they are not highly satisfied with their
current budgeting systems and are continuously trying to improve the budgeting process to meet
the demands set for management in creating sustainable value (report: Better Budgeting, 2004, p.2
3). From this perspective it is obvious that traditional budgeting approach and budgets in general
hold many benefits as well as problems.
Implementing TBA on a static market:
When implemented within businesses, such technique will be more suitable for firms where each
year‟s performance and activities are similar to the previous one and conditions are predictable,
an active market that can take up large sales which do not change much in relation with changes

Gymnast College Essay
A gymnast requires being an athlete that pursues such elegancy as a butterfly, but also has the
strength of a lion. It requires strength in both the body and mind. Gymnastics is considered the
most dangerous sport in the world. For instance, the gymnast s injuries vary from a broken finger
to a fracture in the spine. Behind every routine that a gymnast performs is hours of training. To be
a successful gymnast he or she needs to focus on having the right body, building up physical and
mental strength, and lastly being ready to put in crucial hours of training. The first step of
becoming the best female gymnast is to make sure the athletes body is healthy. Being on a dietary
plan is what most athletic coaches recommend. For example, he or she typically has a nutrition
coach to maintain their balances. The job of the nutrition coach is to make sure the athlete s are
filling their bodies with nutritional foods. Usually the nutrition coach keeps a chart of what
gymnast put in their bodies. For example, athletes would eat fruits instead of junk food. The

The Specificity of Albumin Binding Experiment
The specificity of albumin binding experiment was to determine the binding interactions that occur
between serum albumin and three synthetic dyes with the use of electrophoretic procedure. Whole
blood, or plasma. Clots upon standing and if the clot is removed, the remaining straw colored fluid
is called serum. The major protein in serum is albumin which functions as a carrier molecule for the
transport of certain small molecular weight compounds in blood. Molecules that bind to serum
albumin are fatty acids, hormones and some synthetic dyes. In this experiment the synthetic dyes
used are Bromophenol Blue, Ponceau S and Orange G. we observed that free dyes not bound to

Outliers Paradigm Analysis
A paradigm is a model used to support ideas and claims made by an author. In the book Outliers the
author Malcolm Gladwell uses many paradigms to further illustrate his findings. Throughout the
book Gladwell discusses success and the things that effect ones chance at becoming successful in
life. It is brought to our attention though Gladwell s use of paradigms that there are many small
scale things that can effect ones chances at succeeding. Success is often associated with talent,
genetics, and resources but little do people know there are many things that impact ones success.
Throughout Gladwell s text he uses many paradigms. The first paradigm that he uses is in the
introduction of the book. Gladwell begins by using a small town in Pennsylvania called Roseto.
There was something very unique about this town. A doctor named Stewart Wolfe he found that the
rates of heart diseasein this little town were significantly less for those under the age of sixty five,
which during the time heart disease was a huge epidemic. Wolfe began to research the obvious
things that one would believe to have an impact on heart disease. He looked at diet... Show more

many years before coming to the U.S but also how they played individually before becoming a

Targeted Killing History
With an eye on the future, and another on protecting the inherent freedoms of the citizens of the
United States presently, the U.S. government has employed and advanced a series of targeted
killing programs within the last quarter century. These programs are aimed at targets that present a
serious threat to the security and safety of the United States, and range from drone strikes to the
implementation of tactical teams, with the goal of capturing or killing high valued targets. From
this point forward, this paper will firstly address the nature and definition of targeted killings, then

importantly, focus on the future potential and viability of the... Show more content on

For the purposes of this paper, the history of targeted killings will begin with the modern role of
political assassinations near the end of the twentieth century, as they loosely fall under the
previously established definition for target killings. In response to public outcry regarding post
Watergate revelations that CIA organized and orchestrated a series of assassination attempts on the
life of Cuban President Fidel Castro, then President Gerald Ford issued Executive Order 11905.
This executive order, under section 5(g) entitled Prohibition on Assassination, states that, No
employee of the United States Government shall engaged in, or conspire to engage in, political
assassination. Both succeeding presidents, Carter and Reagan, affirmed the assassination
prohibition; and as there has yet to be a piece of legislation that overrides it, it still remains in
place. This prohibition is critical in a legal context because it provided the founding directive that
specifically precluded targeted killings. However, administrations ranging as far back as Reagan,
and as recent as today s, have both stated that such directives do not apply when the United States
is acting in self defense, such as in the proposed cases of the bombing the home of former Libyan
leader Muammar Gaddafi in the 1980s, by the Reagan administration, or missile strikes on the

Johnny Shanley Doubt Summary
In John Patrick Shanley s Doubt , a priest is accused by a nun of raping the first African
American boy of St. Nicholas, a Catholic Church and school in the Bronx, New York. This
parable is placed in the year of 1964. Therefore, when Shanley writes the African American young

and the social events that took place around that time. In Doubt , Sister Aloysius becomes
suspicious and warns another nun to be aware of her surroundings, which causes suspicion of a

Flynn, and eventually causes him to leave the church. At the end of the play, Sister James and
Sister Aloysius are conversing and Sister Aloysius admits to doubting he done the action. Sister
Aloysius is quick to accuse Father Flynn of being involved inappropriately with Donald because
she is not comfortable with affection toward students. Sister Aloysius does not hesitate to watch

Analysis Of An Open Letter To Myself
The song An Open Letter to Myself, off of the album The Here and Now, by Architects is an
exemplary song that undergoes a complementary set of major changes throughout the piece. This
song was released in 2011 and it would be classified as somewhere within the hard rock to metal
genre. While it is common to note the relationship between the writer, performer, and the listener,
in this piece it is particularly important to do so. Without one of these components present, this
song would likely not carry the same emotional weight as it does. Moreover, this song carries its
meaning through its differentiation from itself. Within the piece, the lyrics shift from originally
blaming others to blaming the writer and the intensity of the audio changes from soft to grand to
compliment this change. One of the major changes this song makes from the beginning to the end
can be noted in the lyrics. The writer, Sam Carter, expresses a sense of multifaceted growth
through the piece. In the first verse, the writer brushes off the lack of connection to those around
him as something that was common to others around him by utilizing either third person, or first
person plural, articles to describe what he did not do. Thus, he believed that he should not be
judged for this error. However, in the second verse, Carter turns to explicitly blaming himself for
the lack of contact and appreciation of an individual he refers to throughout the song as my so
called friend . This

Have I grown and developed over the three years of my high school career? The answer to this
question is a definitive yes. My life has been an amazing journey of physical, mental, and spiritual

Comparing The Things They Carried And Sorrow By Tim O
The poem Sorrow by Martin Dejnicki shares many similar themes with The Things They Carried
by Tim O brien. Both works of writing display war as a painful and and traumatizing experience.
However, this poem reflects the message in The Things They Carried chapter, Sweetheart of the
Song Tra Bong most accurately. Both the chapter and the poem share the theme that war can take
away a person s humanity. In the lines, We ve dug a hole, called a trench, Humanity is gone,
replaced with stench (Dejnicki) the author is trying to convey that a soldier in war can have their
humanity striped away and uses the symbolism of stench to describe the foul persona that may
replace it. In Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong, Tim O brien writes [Mary Anne] had crossed to the

She was ready for the kill (O brien 184). This quote reflects a similar message to the poem; Mary
Anne was once a beautiful innocent girl, yet being in the war had stiped her humanity and
replaced it with a stench that made her savage like. Another quote from Sorrow, Pain around us is
draining but real, craving silence, and a good meal. can be compared to the part in Sweetheart of
the Song Tra Bong where Mary Anne s pain of being stuck between her life at home and her new
life in the jungle of Vietnam has began to drain her and she starts to wander at all hours of the day
and night to find solitude and silence in the jungle. When I m out at night, I feel close to my
own body, I can feel my blood moving, my skin and fingernails, everything, it s like I m full of
electricity and I m glowing in the dark I m on fire almost I m burning away into nothing (O brien
150). This quote reveals that Mary Anne enjoys being out late at night in the silence of the jungle,
the part I m on fire almost I m burning away into nothing is a symbol of the complex feelings she
gets when she s out there, that will someday consume her until she is not herself anymore. Her pain
is draining her

Essay Man Against Nature in Jurassic Park
Man Against Nature in Jurassic Park
The world was made for man to conquer and rule, and under human rule it was meant to become a
paradise (Ishmael 82). Much like this evolutionary mythological theory, the movie Jurassic Park
tells a tale of man s attempt to rule over nature. Through the movie s description and imagery, the
viewer perceives the arrogance of humans to control nature, and the consequences and failures of
this flawed intention. John Hammond, park creator, uses state of the art technology and ideas to
recover dinosaur DNA, fill in missing gene caps, and breed the previously extinct animals to exploit
his accomplishment. This process is set into motion without regard to the ethics behind the
research, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In an attempt to smuggle dino embryos off of the island for personal greed, the island s unhappy
computer specialist shuts down the park s defenses to escape. Nature only needs this one small
opportunity, breaks loose, and pure pandemonium on the island ensues. Those in control realize that
they have none, and become the prey of their nonobedient creations.
Near the beginning of the movie, Dr. s Grant and Sadtler are on a paleological skeleton dig, when
one digger s boy remarks that the dangerous carnivore Velociraptor doesn t look very scary, more
like a giant turkey. This typical human response parallels many other naГЇve and arrogant
conclusions made throughout the movie, and is essentially the main theme. In viewing nature from
afar, a non interactive position, the dinosaur is serene, picturesque, and non threatening. The boy
arrogantly assumes that the Raptor is not dangerous, simplifies his existence, and associates it to a
creature that we breed, exploit, and control. Dr. Grant takes exception to this comment, and he tells
the boy to picture yourself in the Cretacious Period, and vividly describes the Raptor s normal
hunting ritual. This description places the boy in nature, takes him off his arrogant objective
pedestal, and rips away his born in superiority. Suddenly the boy finds himself terrified, as within
nature everything is

Many states view collecting use tax on smaller purchases as burdensome, therefore states have
customarily attempted to collect a use tax only on big ticket items that require licenses such as
cars and boats. Many states over the last several years are increasing enforcement efforts of the use
tax laws to get the state population to pay the taxes due in an attempt to combat internet ordering.
The realities of limited resources as well as the complexities involved with tracking down minor
purchases and demanding that a use tax be paid are limiting the collection efforts.
In the 1992 decision, Quill v. North Dakota, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that retailers are
exempt from collecting sales taxes in states where they have no physical presence, with physical
presence defined by example such as a store, office, or warehouse. The specifics of this case deal
with a catalog mail order company, however, the ruling has been far reaching and has been applied
to all remote sellers, including online retailers. The Court stated requiring companies to comply
with the varied sales tax rules and regulations of 45 states and some 7,500 different local taxing
jurisdictions would burden interstate commerce.
In its ruling, the Court specifically noted that Congress has the authority to change this policy and
could enact legislation requiring all retailers to collect sales taxes without running

Ecology is a very important concept in the minds of many people all over the world. With concerns
of environmental degradation becoming more and more prevalent, humanity has been taking new
initiatives in order to restore our once thriving environments. While some are just beginning to
address the issue now, others have been looking out for our Mother Nature much longer. One such
group of people are called Buddhists. Nature has played a significant role in the formation of
Buddhismand also remains an important concept in the teachings of today. The interdependencies

The Minnesota Zen Meditation Center is not an exception to that guideline. From the public garden,
to the transformed house, to the flowers inside the center, there were plenty of reminders that
expressed the importance of ecology to the congregation. The public garden is a great way for the
center to benefit our environment while also reaching out to the community. The idea of a public
garden is great because it not only creates a better environment around us, but it also attempts to
influence many people to do the same. Additionally, the garden includes a bike rack. The bike rack
further suggests the center s commitment to environmentally friendly activities. The garden is one
of the most apparent traits of the center that makes it unique from other congregations that I have
seen. Similar to what the speakers from Interfaith Power and Light discussed, the center has the
ability to unite its members and serve as a catalyst to create a community of environmentally
conscious people. It is a great feeling to see that congregations like the Minnesota Zen Meditation

The Characters Of Aisha And Khadija
The Prophet s pietistic norms are archetypes in which Muslims, as a piety of knowledge, are
intrigued to comprehend more about the messenger s social gestures. There have been various
inquiries concerning the prophet s marriage, the traits of Muhammad as a husband and the
normative of his sexual life. Although the prophet had consummated his marriagewith eleven of his
thirteen wives, Khadija and Aisha were the Prophet s most preference and beloved ones. No doubts,
both Aisha and Khadija manifested the entitlement The Mother of the Muslim Believers; though,
they both embedded different characters and witnessed the Prophet sexually in varying views.
Therefore, the community had portrait Aisha and Khadija s embodiments relatively to their
suppositions of gender and sexuality, since that Muhammadmarried both of his wives during
discrete periods. In this Essay, I intend to answer the exam s inquiry, thoroughly, through three
factions: At first, providing both characters of Aisha and Khadija. Secondly, representing clear
differences in the way, they were told and the views they described gender and sexuality. Finally,
Juxtaposing the discrepancies between the two stories and what they present.

Informal education is totally different to the type of education that takes place within schools. Young
people are not taught the objectives defined by a teacher as they would be in a classroom, they
are encouraged to work things out for themselves as an active learner. An educator s role in
informal education is to create situations in which young people can identify their own goals for
learning (Mackinnon, 2013 p13). In this instance (LGBT activity) the students were placed in
small groups and given the agenda i.e. where they would like Peer Education to be in two
months time. From this they worked together to discuss and identify the skills and barriers
involved in peer education. However they did not sit in a group around a table as you would
expect to find with group activities taking place in a school, instead they grouped using the

group rather than being directed by Scott or Jean whose input was merely to work around the
groups asking relevant questions to encourage independent thinking therefore the practitioner

Representations Of The Northern Qi Dynasty And The Tang...
While the Northern Qi dynasty and the Tang dynasty existed in different centuries, the art of the
time represents many of the same ideas. The Northern Qi dynasty existed from the years 550 to
577. During this time period, a limestone carving was created in the Xiangtangshan cave. From
the years 618 to 907, the Tang Dynasty advanced the art landscape (Neave). The mural from
Cave forty five in Mogao in the Gansu province was an artistic creation of the Tang time period
estimated to be from the years 705 to 781. Both the carving and the mural are representations of
the western pure land; however, this is only one of their many similarities. The two pieces contain
the same pictorial elements in similar positions signifying the similar ideas of the pure land. The
two pieces are similar in size and the type of location in which they originated. The amount of time
required in the process of crafting the elaborate caves and the emphasis of the Pure Land depictions
shows the importance of Buddhist worship during the Tang and Northern Qi Dynasties. Through
comparison of the two depictions of the Western Pure Land, viewers are able to identify significant
similarities in beliefs regarding rebirth to the Western Pure Lands between the time periods of the
Northern Qi and Tang Dynasties. The Northern Qi dynasty laid the framework for advancement in
the art world during the Tang Dynasty. The Northern Qi dynasty was less organized than the Tang
Dynasty; however, their administrators

Analysis Of Hide And Seek
Hide and Seek was written by Jakayla Towey. It is a horror story surrounding the ever changing
life of Emily. I would recommend this read to those who are interested in psychological horror. Its
development around the game Hide and Seek and the state of being completely insane is very
intriguing and will leave most thinking. The story won wattpad s Watty Award in 2016 for best
horror. The story never heads in an expected direction and always keeps you on your toes

A Summary Of The Gunpowder Plot
Remember, remember, the fifth of November; we all know the rhyme but how well do we really
know the story? In the essay I will explore how the plotters were punished and why they were
punished so severely. Before you can explore the punishments, you first have to know the story.
The Gunpowder Plot started on May 20th 1604; however, the reasons behind the plot started
many years prior to that. In fact, the entire reason behind the plot dated back to Henry VIII,
when religious turmoil broke out. You could say, all hell broke loose. It all started when Henry
made his break from Rome to allow him to divorce his wife, Catherine of Aragon. This made
England a Protestant country which many didn t like, or rather, hated. This turmoil continued for
many years, as the next king, Edward, kept Protestantism whilst Mary, the following monarch,
(also known as Bloody Mary) changed the national religion back to Catholicism and took her
religion to further extremes by burning Protestants. Upon Mary s death Elizabeth I took the
reigns and, yet again, switched the religion. She also persecuted those who didn t follow the
same religion as her, as she made it illegal to be a Catholic and illegal to go to a non Protestant
Church. James VI of Scotland came to the throne next and he, despite thoughts that he might have
been kinder to Catholics, kept the aforementioned Recuncansy Laws. The country was a mess.
This is where the plot we know so well comes in. A man named Robert Catesby was fed up,

Still I Rise By Maya Angelou And Where Is The Love, By The...
Do you ever feel that you are out of place, like a standout in a busy crowd? This is how it feels to
be discriminated against due to the colour of your skin. For more than 500 years, coloured people
have faced the threat of intrusion and violence; they have been used, abused and discriminated
against due to the colour of their skin, their religion or where they come from. In the 21st century

Child Labor In America
Starting in about the 1700s, hand labor was replaced by power driven machines to make jobs
easier. The industrial revolution had begun, and families needed a job and money to be able to
survive. European immigrants started spreading word that children should work.Eventually
factories decided to get kids to worksince the machines were easy to operate and didn t require
adult strength.
The jobs in the factories were easy, and factories didn t have to pay children as much as adults, so
the factories took advantage of that. Children had to work an estimate of 12 to 18 hours a day, 6
days a week, to earn no more than a dollar. They didn t even get to choose what job they wanted to
do . These jobs were given based on age and gender, and the youngest of children working were of
the age of 7. Some children had to work in large houses 16 hours a day, 7 days a week at a low pay
as well. By the year of 1810, 2 million school age students in America were already working 50 to
70 hours a week and by 2006, there were 218 million child laborers all around the world, 126
million engaged in dangerous work. Some boys had to carry loads of hot glass as part of their
jobs to earn only up to $1.10 per day! With all these hours of nonstop work, children had no time
for play, school or to rest so most of them were uneducated because they had to work in order to
support their families.
The children working inside the factories were working under very dangerous conditions. The

Hayneville Essay
Michael Johnson Interpretation of Return to Hayneville Class 1101, Mon and Wed 9:30 a.m.
December 1, 2010 Word count 874 In Gregory Orr s essay, Return to Hayneville , published by
The Virginia Quarterly Review, Orr revisited the place of his abduction by armed vigilantes in
Alabama as a Civil Rights worker in 1965. Even though the events of this essay take place in
1965, for Orr it started with the death of his younger brother in a hunting accident when Orr was
twelve. Holding the gun that killed his younger brother, Orr believed that if his life began at
twelve with his brother s death, then his end, determined by the trajectory of that harsh beginning,
could easily have taken place six years later (125, 1). Orr... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Jumping back into the past, Gregory Orr tells the incident when he and a group of five hundred
of men, women, teenagers, and old folks assemble in Jackson, Mississippi. In Jackson for a
peaceful demonstration, Gregory Orr and the rest of the group were arrested and taken away to
the county fairgrounds (128, 1). Where they was beaten by officers of the law, Orr stated, I
emerged into the outdoors and the bright sunlight and saw them two lines of about fifteen
highway patrolmen on either side. I was ordered to walk, not run, between them. Again I was
beaten with nightsticks, but this time more thoroughly, as I was the only target (129, 2). Once
freed from his captors, Gregory Orr gets in his car to head back north, but on his way back he was
pulled over by flashing lights. Thinking it was the police; Gregory Orr pulled over and was
approached by two white men. One of the white men said, Get out, you son of a bitch, or I ll blow
your head off (133, 3). The two white men takes Gregory Orr s wallet and tell him to follow them,
Scared for his life, Gregory Orr did exactly what the two men told him to do. After following the
two men, Gregory Orr is back in jail in Hayneville. Already depressed and disoriented by the ten
days in jail in Jackson, I was even more frightened in Hayneville, (136, 1) stated by Gregory Orr.

The Ozone Layer And Global Climate Change
NASA states that, In its Fourth Assessment Report, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate
Change, a group of 1,300 independent scientific experts from countries all over the world under
the auspices of the United Nations, concluded there s a more than 90 percent probability that
human activities over the past 250 years have warmed our planet . The ozone layer and a stable
climate temperature are the only thing protecting life on earthfrom the deadly UV rays and harmful
global temperature rise. All around the world today the ozone layer is constantly depleting and the
overall global temperature is constantly heating up whether anyone is acknowledging it or not, but
there is a cause. Ozone layer depletion and global climate change are naturally occurring events that
have been extremely and negatively heightened by human life. Not many people know what global
warmingor the ozone layer actually is. The ozone layer is a layer in the earth s stratosphere that
absorbs most of the ultra violet rays from the sun. Global warming is the progressive optimization
in the overall temperature of the earth s atmosphere. Carbon dioxide levels have a major effect
on the earth s overall temperature. For 650,000 years the carbon level has fluctuated between 160
and 300 parts per million. 1950 to 2014 is when it immediately skyrocketed to 400 and continues
to increase today . About thirty years ago scientists unearthed a hole in the ozone layer. The ozone

Even though Registered Nurses are in high demand, Victor Valley Community College instituted a
multi screening point assignment to really weed out applicants that are qualified for the program.
According to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), more than 30,000
qualified applicants have been turned away from nursing education programs every year since
2002 . VVC offers an associate program, which would normally be two years long. With numerous
test implemented to make sure the student is able to follow through with the program, qualified
individuals are on the waiting list for years.
In 2007, Assembly Bill 1559 was signed; it required Community Colleges and University to initiate
a merit based system. The purpose of the bill was to train more nurses as the population of nurses
is disappearing by the aging population. In the 1990 s a disagreement aroused over merit based
Associate Degree Nursing programs. The Mexican American Legal Defense and Education fund
threatened a lawsuit for the students of different ethnicities were being denied into the program

evaluative systems. The lottery and wait list were instituted and the completion rates dropped.

Analysis Of The Movie Spirited Away And Ponyo
Director Miyazaki illustrated in Spirited Away and Ponyo how love, identity, perseverance, and
adversity can conquer anything. At the beginning of the movies, we see how food and water set
Chihiro, Sosuke, and Ponyo s entire adventures, and the conflict they endure and how they were
perceived in the spiritand humanworlds. The spirit world was less tolerant of anything different
whereas the human world was more welcoming; however, they both illustrated the same message
about how people should be more open minded and to be more accepting. An example in Spirited
Awayshowed how the Spirit world viewed Chihiro as nothing more than just a human being who
came to their world to cause trouble, according to Yubaba; whereas in the human world, Ponyo
was welcomed by Sosuke, even though at the start of the movie, Ponyo was appeared to be a
goldfish, nevertheless she was still welcomed by a human. The narrator showed his audience
how difficult it was for Chihiro in the spirit world, in Spirited Away , but, Ponyo was the
opposite in the human world but she still had adversity. By the contrast of both worlds, Miyazaki
is showing his audience how humans are more accepting of things that are different vs the spirit
world which rejects differences. The storyteller showed a scene in Spirited Away where Yubaba
tried to trick Chihiro into choosing her parents from a group of sprit she had turned into pigs, but
it didn t work the way Yubaba wanted it to, because Chihiro was able

Anne Hutchinson In The Massachusetts Bay Colony
The Massachusetts Bay Colony in the seventeenth century was incredibly intolerable towards any
religious ideology that opposed the Puritan authority and when clashed with the ideals of Anne
Hutchinson, the event forever marked the beginning of religious tolerance in the New England
Colonies. The Massachusetts Bay Colony, like many other towns in New England banished
individuals for such offenses as criticizing the church or government (Foner 71). As discussed in
small group lecture, the community of the MassachusettsBay Colony had become so hardened in
their Puritanvalues that the sand that made up the community (the people) became glass. The values
of the community Anne Hutchinson, a spiritual advisor with her own interpretations of the Bible,

This idea went strictly against the authority, not because they were actually teaching a covenant of
works, but because Hutchinson was challenging their views whether they were true or not. Any
corruption in the authority seen by the community could disrupt the order of the society and cause
anarchy for the masses. John Winthrop, a puritan lawyer as wells as an authoritative figure in the
Massachusetts Bay Colony thought highly of Hutchinson, claiming she a woman of ready wit and
bold spirit (Foner 74). He felt no ill will towards her specifically, but once she went against the
authority and criticized the ministers, she broke away from the society, becoming a force pushing
against the glass and threatening to break its very foundations.Only three years after her arrival in
1634, Anne Hutchinson was put on trial for antinomianism and sedition. This trial became the
contact zone for Hutchinson s religious ideals and Winthrop s hardened

Aldous Huxley s Impact On American Society
Most Americans place the rise of psychedelic and hallucinogenic drug use in the 1970 s, but
Aldous Huxley, author and English scholar, was ahead of his time. Starting in the 1940 s, Huxley
began using a hallucinogenic drug under the watch of a psychiatrist conducting a clinical study as
he wrote novels. One of his best known novels, written while he was using psychedelics such as
mescaline and LSD, is Island, a story set on the imaginary island of Pala in Southeast Asia. Pala
appears to be a utopian society, untouched by the Western influences of capitalism and widespread
industrial areas with high consumerism. One of the main pillars of Palanese society is use of a
psychedelic drug called moksha medicine for enlightenment, mind expansion,... Show more content

His own experimentation and use of hallucinogenic drugs changed his perception of the world,
which bled into his writing. The psychiatrist Humphrey Osmond accepted Huxley as a test
subject for mescaline, a hallucinogenic similar to LSD, in the mid 1940 s. These drug induced
experiences were, for Huxley, of mystical import and supported beliefs in the wisdom of Eastern
teachings (Aliprandi, Aldous Huxley: Early Life and Works ). Unlike the drug he invented in his
earlier book A Brave New World, which was called soma and acted as a depressant to relax the
mind, the mescaline and psychedelic drugs introduced in Island could expand the human mind,
rather than pacify it. Huxley used LSD and other hallucinogenic drugs often, enjoying their mind
opening abilities and which allowed him to contemplate which reality was true, the sober reality or
his drug induced journey through his own mind. The drugs were such an integral part of him that
he requested them upon death, and, His wife honored his request to be administered LSD on this
deathbed (Aliprandi, Aldous Huxley Early Life and

Comparing Sacrifices In The Magi And The Minor Canon
Sacrifices can come in many different forms; whether it be an object, time, a way of living, or
even a life. These sacrifices are usually made out of love. Della s sacrifice was giving up her
appearance and the way people would think of her for her husband. The Minor Canon made his
sacrifice of leaving a town for the townspeople he cared about. Both of these sacrifices were not
for personal gain, but to improve the lives of those around them. Sacrifices are a prominent part of
both The Gift of The Magi and The Griffin and The Minor Canon.
In The Gift of The Magi, Della gave up her hair for her husband, which may seem like an odd
sacrifice for an odd reason without further explanation. Della had beautiful hair, but not a lot of
money, so she sold her hair for enough money to buy a gift for Jim, her husband. In The Griffin
and The Minor Canon, the Minor Canon gave up his way of life in the best interest of the town.

how her hair looked and said If Jim doesn t kill me... before he looks at me a second time, he ll

friends and family would think, because he was giving up everything to live alone and draw the

To Kill A Mockingbird A Classic Analysis
In what ways is Harper Lee s To kill a mockingbird a classic by Emma Chen
In her book To Kill a Mockingbird ,Harper Lee incorporates many elements of classic literature
into the text ,making every reading just as treasured and meaningful as the first . Through her work
,she passes on the essence of her time ,as well as a rather relatable insight into human morals .
Italo Calvino suggests that classics are those books which come to us bearing the aura of previous
interpretations ,and trailing behind them the traces they have left in the culture or cultures through
which they passed . We can see this evidently ,in the discussed novel, concerning the theme of
social inequality ,not only in the racism against Negroes but also social inequality

Writing In The Afterlife By Billy Collins
. There were many events that occurred between the 1940s and today in the world. However, in
America, a lot of the social issues were mostly dealing with sex, drugs, and alcohol. During the
1950s and 1960s, the social trends consisted of supply and demand. The supply and demand
caused for there to be more entertainment as well as an increase in pay. A few types of
entertainment pieces was the first magazine of Playboy being issued, more talk about sex, drugs,
and alcohol in songs and the radio shows were transitioning to television shows. Due to the
newspaper in New York City having competition with the television company, the employees of the
newspaper went on strike in 1953 for an increase in wages (Musser 1960s). A form of entertainment,

Collins uses imagery in his poem Writing in the Afterlife in order to express his perception of
the way the afterlife looks. The poem, Writing in the Afterlife is about the narrator/speaker
talking about their perception of what heaven looks like to them. Then the poem goes into more
precise detail as to the narrator/speaker actually entering into heaven. The way Collins could
possibly relate the poem to his actual life is his perception of heaven, may have seen heaven in
his past life, or someone he knows may have seen heaven in their past life. But more towards the
end of the poem, he compares mentions his writing to be heavenly, in a sense because he
mentions the writing is peaceful like heaven to him. The way imagery relates to Collins poem,
Writing in the Afterlife is by Collins describing heaven. For example, Collins says, I imagined
the atmosphere would be clear, / shot with pristine light,/..the air ionized as before a
thunderstorm./ (Lines 1, 2, 4). Collins may have also written this poem in order to become at
peace with the loss of his parents because he says, I knew I would not always be a child/ with a
model train and a model tunnel/ (Lines 9 10). As a result, Collins is able to use imagery in order to
display his perception as well as his active imagination of heaven through his poem Writing in the
Afterlife (Poetry Foundation 2002). (Transition

Informative Speech About Hiccups

the date everything seems perfect. The two of you are saying goodnight and you know he or
she is about to kiss you. Finally, when they move in for the kill...HICCUP!!! I am sure at this
point you are now recalling your own embarrassing moments when hiccups came at the wrong
time and wrong place. Not only are you reenacting this scenario in your mind, but now you are
beginning to wonder, What are hiccups anyway? We have all experienced them at some point in
our life, and no one has been exempt from them. They are like unwelcome guests, they come into
your house without knocking or warning, they eat everything in your fridge, hog the T.V. for
hours on end, take a long nap on our couch, and then finally decide they have worn out their
welcome and should probably head home. I have always wondered to myself what exactly
caused these annoyances and how could I just get rid of them. That is what led me to research
this topic and do my speech on it today. For the next 5 or 6 minutes I am going to give you the

The Tell Tale Heart And The Birth Mark Only A Couple Of...
Contemporaries Edgar Alan Poe and Nathaniel Hawthorne published their respective short stories
The Tell Tale Heart and The Birth Mark only a couple of months apart. The Tell Tale Heart is the
personal account of a young man s descent into madness as he becomes increasingly fixated on the
eye of an older man, presumably his father. Similarly, The Birth Mark narrates the story of a young
couple, Aylmer and Georgiana, and how the latter s birthmark becomes the obsession of the former.
Poe and Hawthorne s literary genre of Dark Romanticismopposes human perfectibility, and both
writers employ symbolism, irony, similar characters and plot to convey the theme that obsessions
will inevitably lead to destruction.
The authors of American Romanticism held a particular disdain for science, which they made
visible through the aggressor characters in their short stories. Both aggressors wanted to do away
with any imperfections in their environments, as they felt personally threatened by them. The
younger man in The Tell Tale Heartbehaves in cold, calculated movements and dismembers the
body of the old man like a butcher. In The Birth Mark Aylmer, a man of science, uses science in
order to create a concoction that will remove his wife s birthmark. Of the potion Aylmer declares,
Unless all science have deceived me, it cannot fail, (Hawthorne 428). The aggressors are severely
flawed characters, who act on deranged impulses, but attempt to justify their actions rationally and

Aim:
To calculate the concentration of acetic acid in vinegar, CH3COOH via titration methods.
Apparatus:
0.100 M standard solution of sodium hydroxide (NaOH)
Household vinegar (CH3COOH)
Phenolphthalein indicator
Distilled water
200ml volumetric flask
250 ml conical flask
20ml volumetric pipette
Burette
Retort stand
Filter funnel
Method:
Before the commencement of the practical, all necessary glassware and measurement tools were
rinsed appropriately. The pipette was rinsed three times with vinegar solution, whereas the
volumetric flask was rinsed three times with distilled water. 20mL of the vinegar solution was
measured and transferred to the volumetric flask, where it was diluted with distilled water by filling
the flask to the 200mL graduation line. A 20ml aliquot of the aforementioned solution was
extracted from the volumetric flask via the volumetric pipette and subsequently transferred to the
conical flask. Three drops of phenolphthalein indicator were then added. The burette was filled with
the provided NaOH solution of 0.1M, with volume measurements taken from the bottom of the
meniscus. The conical flask was placed under the burette, from which a rough titration of the
vinegar solution began. Titrations halted once a permanent color change was visible in the conical
flask. This process was repeated until three concordant titre values were obtained.

  • 2. Prospect Theory Summary of the learning points (ranked by importance to you) Today s class discussed the mental accounting for money management. 1.Prospect theory. The theory can be represented by a value function, as shown below. The value function starts from a reference point, and is normally concave for gains, and convex for losses. It is also steeper for losses than for gains. The theory intends to explain why people behave irrationally when making choices. 2.Framing effect. It refers to the difference in response to the same question represented in different ways. This technique is frequently used in marketing ads campaign, such as PAD. 3.Sunk Cost effect. When people have put effort into something, they are often... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Secondly, according to mental accounting, we assign value and goal for money in each account. We also set aside some expected gain before we make any investment. As long as we meet our target, then we can relocate the money for some other accounts. By investing money long term, we forgo the opportunity to enjoy the gain in short term. (2) Gift card I just realized the gift card is another combination of framing and sunk cost effect. Even though I received the gift card, I didn t pay for it, whoever gave I to me did spend money in that store. There are two scenarios on how to spend the gift card money. On one hand, I view it as free money and spend it on luxury items, which I would not normally buy; usually I pay for the excess amount out of my own pocket. So I spend more than I should. Or on the other hand, I forgot about the card. Most of the gift card has fine print which states the expiration date. Lots of people do not notice this, and forgo the opportunity to claim the amount. Money does not expire; gift card does. Framing enables the company to put a time limit on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Impact Of Sports On Women s Sports Traditionally men have dominated the world of sports however in recent year s women s sports have become popular and with their new found popularity, women s sports have evolved into marketable leagues of their own. Although women s sports took a huge leap forward, women players still don t receive the same financial compensation for playing the same sports in the same arenas as their male counterparts. In Purse Snatching by Donna Lopiano, she points out sexism may have a huge effect on this financial discrepancy between women and men athletes. Analyzing sports economics may point to a different reason why women are receiving such a compensation disparity. Women sports have come a long way, since the days when women were only allowed to watch. The past three decades have witnessed a steady growth in women s sports programs in America along with a remarkable increase in the number of women athletes (Daniel Frankl 2) From an early age women were thought to be Lady Like ; they are told not to get all sweaty and dirty. Over 200 years later since Maud Watson stepped on the tennis courts of Wimbledon (Sports Media digest 3); women now compete in all types and levels of sports from softball to National racing. Soccer fans saw Mia Hamm become the face of Women s soccer around the world , Venus and Serena Williams are two of the most popular figures in tennis, and Indy car racing had their first woman racer, Danika Patrick. • 4. Chinese Immigrants And The United States Introduction to Chinese Americans The beginning of Chinese immigration to the United States first started in the 19th century, the political unrest and economic pressures in China and the Gold Rush era in California prompted thousands of Chinese immigrants to migrate to the United States to search for temporary work, and to seek for the dreams of gold in the 1850s. Many of them arrived in America hoping to acquired wealth to send money back to support their families and hoping to return back to their home after a few years with wealth, but some of them entered the United States for freedom. Through decades and decades of struggles and isolation, this immigrant group were finally able to find a secure place in the life of this nation. The Chinese immigrants are now the third largest immigrant group in the United States, the graph below shows the population growth in United States from 1980 to 2013, which in 2013 the Chinese immigrant population had reached over more than 2 million and comprising 5 percent of the overall immigrant population (Hooper and Batalova, 2015). Chinese immigrant s arrival in the United States Many Chinese immigrants entered the United States as legal immigrant, half of them obtain lawful permanent residence in the United States through family channels, and this traces back to the early 1980s, where most of the Chinese immigrants are originated from Guangdong, China, because of the province s strong historical connection with Chinese America. ... • 5. Business Plan (Record Company) Business Plan: Starting an Independent Record Label Introduction First of all I am setting down the employees of Les Incompetentsв„ў . There are three of us: The Label manager (who is responsible for running the label), an A R (the talent scout who mentors the artist through to final recording) and a business developer (who is responsible for the business deals). Although every one of us has a specific title, being a small independent label, we all work on every issue. The funding of the label came from our personal funding (representing 85% of our funding). I, the head of the label brought 55% of the full funding, the two other equally brought 15% each of personal funding into the label. Three of our friends (5% each) came in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The contract can be found at the end of the document, Appendix A. So we own the copyright in the recordings for a minimum of five (5) years. RECORDING The album will be recorded at Urchin Studios in London (www.urchinstudios.co.uk), new studios since 2007, price remains affordable without letting go of the quality side. They are operating with Strokes producer Gordon Raphael. As past clients they have had Emmy The Great, Skin, Jeremy Warmsley, Transgressive Records. We will operate on a daily fee of ВЈ200 for a 9 hour day inclusive of all equipment and engineer; we have to look at problems such as overtime which will cost us ВЈ30 per hour or such as additional cost hours after 9pm which are at engineer s discretion. It would be lovely to work in Pinna Studios (www.pinnaproductions.com) but much more expensive. Lately these studios have seen the likes of the Kills, Razorlight, MTV, Endemol but the costs are much higher so they will be hopefully used as future reference. Just to se the differences, their daily rate is 350ВЈ all services included but only for an eight hour day. Another solution would be recording the album in Paris as the Band is French at studioras (http://studioras.free.fr/). They are a new studio and the daily costs would be 28O€ with engineer for an eight hour day which roughly represents 220ВЈ. • 6. The Case Of A Contract Page 180 1) The court viewed the situation as if a reasonable individual would consider the offer as valid. Zehmer s outward expressions and words constituted a genuine offer to sell. The outwardly demonstrated intent is all the court looks at, not the secret and inward thought of the defendant. A contract cannot be done in passing or when absent minded. Both parts have to come to mutual understanding and agreement (Melvin, 2011). Lucy demonstrated her intent by ensuring that details were in the contract (illustrated by several drafts that were written), and by ensuring both husband and wife signed the contract (Lucy v. Zehmer Case Brief Summary, 2015). 2) Had Zehmer realized that Lucy took his offer seriously, he would have informed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another point is that after a month and a fax requesting the written document, Chou answered immediately and demonstrated that BTT was interested in a written contract. BTT had the contract in their possession for several months to accept or reject, and did not. 2) The facts that would weigh for Chou would be that both parties accepted the terms and continued operating as if there were a contract. Second would be the fact that upon notification of further contract, Chou prepared and delivered it immediately. It was BTT that deferred the signing without rejecting the contract for several months. 3) The mail rule and their communication by faster email reveal that they both had many opportunities within any given period to make adjustments, counter offers, or even reject the deal without it going on for such a long period (Melvin, 2011). 4) Chou s neglect to follow through with a contract could make the deal unenforceable. The statute of frauds requires some information to be written down and signed. If the courts did not take the email that spells out all the terms of the agreement sent by BTT to Chou as proof of all parties agreement, it could be a dismissed lawsuit (Melvin, 2011). 5) BTT could avoid the contact under a doctrine of mistake. • 7. Africentric Alternative School Case Study The expression separate but equal, is the philosophy in which was the foundation of racial segregation in the late 19th and 20th centuries and is commonly referred to the Brown v. Board of Education case. Separate but equal is the process of granting all citizens of the state the same rights and freedoms but finding ways around the law that would allow racial discrimination to be applied in all situations. However, separate but equalis not always a problematic circumstance, as the Africentric Alternative School located in Toronto Ontario is an institution that was developed in order to cease the trend of African descent students dropping out of school. The school may be separate or different from other schools in the Toronto district but still offer all students the same education and opportunities. Secondly, the Africentric Alternative School also includes education of African topics to increase the students pride within themselves. The school believes that if the students have a greater knowledge of their background, they will that will be able to have more respect and diligence for their present and future. Canadian history and other essential topics required by the Ontario School Board are included within the curriculum, thus proving to not be problematic as all students history backgrounds are being taught.Furthermore, there were two overall reasons for why the school was created for the intent of educating minority students and not for whites. The proposed merger would help both organizations by economizing on costs and expanding the artistic potential of both organizations. Each of the organizations need to support the decision in order for the merger to be successful. A1. Bill Bailey and McClelland s Need Theory Bill Bailey, chairman of the board for the Utah Opera,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scott Parker can utilize Adam s equity theory to persuade Mrs. Abravanel to support the merger. The equity theory in essence is when individuals seek to maintain equity based on the inputs they produce and the outcomes they receive from their inputs as compared to others perceived inputs and outcomes. A balance between inputs and outputs is strived for because it leads to fairness and improved relations. Mrs. Abravanel s opposition to the merger could be because of a perceived unfairness based on the efforts her husband put into to bringing the Utah Symphony up to world class stature. Mrs. Abravanel sees the symphony as the dominant party in the merger. This is apparent by Mrs. Abravanel s statement, Maurice would never take second billing to anyone (Delong amp; Ager, 2005). Parker must show Mrs. Abravanel that the merger will help alleviate some of the financial stress the symphony is facing and increase the success and visibility of both organizations. In order to convince Mrs. Abravanel to support the merger, Parker needs to explain the rationale behind the merger as well as understand why Mrs. Abravanel sees the merger as unfair and inequitable. In order to sway Mrs. Abravanel to support the merger, Parker can offer Mrs. Abravanel a seat to participate in the merger discussions. Mrs. Abravanel s perceived unfairness would be assuaged by giving her a voice in the discussions (input) and a say in the outcomes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

APC 309 Strategic Management Accounting Module Title: Strategic Management Accounting Module Code: APC309 Individual assignment SUNDERLAND BUSINESS SCHOOL Date: 16/04/2011 Introduction: As Gowthope (2005, p.148) said that: A budget is a plan, expressed in financial and/or more general quantitative terms, which extends forward for a period into the future. Budgets are widely used in organisations of all types and sizes. Budgeting actually refers to the process that, after the strategic plan of the business has been made, companies made a short term plan (usually one year) to meet the strategic purpose. Traditional budgeting has offered a lot of contributions in so many years‟ practice; no one has a better summary of all advantage of traditional budget as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Traditional Budgeting Approach (TBA): There are various methods to prepare a budget. Here we are concerned with the traditional approach to budgeting known also as the incremental budgeting which involves basing next year‟s budget on the current year‟s results plus an extra amount for estimated growth or inflation (APC309 Workbook, 2008). It is claimed that in many organisations the traditional budgeting remains widespread, and that 99% of European and US companies are using budgets and have no intention of abandoning them, it was also stated that over 60% of those companies claim that they are not highly satisfied with their current budgeting systems and are continuously trying to improve the budgeting process to meet the demands set for management in creating sustainable value (report: Better Budgeting, 2004, p.2 3). From this perspective it is obvious that traditional budgeting approach and budgets in general hold many benefits as well as problems. Implementing TBA on a static market: When implemented within businesses, such technique will be more suitable for firms where each year‟s performance and activities are similar to the previous one and conditions are predictable, an active market that can take up large sales which do not change much in relation with changes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For the purposes of this paper, the history of targeted killings will begin with the modern role of political assassinations near the end of the twentieth century, as they loosely fall under the previously established definition for target killings. In response to public outcry regarding post Watergate revelations that CIA organized and orchestrated a series of assassination attempts on the life of Cuban President Fidel Castro, then President Gerald Ford issued Executive Order 11905. This executive order, under section 5(g) entitled Prohibition on Assassination, states that, No employee of the United States Government shall engaged in, or conspire to engage in, political assassination. Both succeeding presidents, Carter and Reagan, affirmed the assassination prohibition; and as there has yet to be a piece of legislation that overrides it, it still remains in place. This prohibition is critical in a legal context because it provided the founding directive that specifically precluded targeted killings. However, administrations ranging as far back as Reagan, and as recent as today s, have both stated that such directives do not apply when the United States is acting in self defense, such as in the proposed cases of the bombing the home of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in the 1980s, by the Reagan administration, or missile strikes on the ... Analysis Of An Open Letter To Myself The song An Open Letter to Myself, off of the album The Here and Now, by Architects is an exemplary song that undergoes a complementary set of major changes throughout the piece. This song was released in 2011 and it would be classified as somewhere within the hard rock to metal genre. While it is common to note the relationship between the writer, performer, and the listener, in this piece it is particularly important to do so. Without one of these components present, this song would likely not carry the same emotional weight as it does. Moreover, this song carries its meaning through its differentiation from itself. Within the piece, the lyrics shift from originally blaming others to blaming the writer and the intensity of the audio changes from soft to grand to compliment this change. One of the major changes this song makes from the beginning to the end can be noted in the lyrics. The writer, Sam Carter, expresses a sense of multifaceted growth through the piece. In the first verse, the writer brushes off the lack of connection to those around him as something that was common to others around him by utilizing either third person, or first person plural, articles to describe what he did not do. Thus, he believed that he should not be judged for this error. However, in the second verse, Carter turns to explicitly blaming himself for the lack of contact and appreciation of an individual he refers to throughout the song as my so called friend . This ... Both the chapter and the poem share the theme that war can take away a person s humanity. • 31. Representations Of The Northern Qi Dynasty And The Tang... While the Northern Qi dynasty and the Tang dynasty existed in different centuries, the art of the time represents many of the same ideas. The Northern Qi dynasty existed from the years 550 to 577. During this time period, a limestone carving was created in the Xiangtangshan cave. From the years 618 to 907, the Tang Dynasty advanced the art landscape (Neave). The mural from Cave forty five in Mogao in the Gansu province was an artistic creation of the Tang time period estimated to be from the years 705 to 781. Both the carving and the mural are representations of the western pure land; however, this is only one of their many similarities. The two pieces contain the same pictorial elements in similar positions signifying the similar ideas of the pure land. The two pieces are similar in size and the type of location in which they originated. The amount of time required in the process of crafting the elaborate caves and the emphasis of the Pure Land depictions shows the importance of Buddhist worship during the Tang and Northern Qi Dynasties. Through comparison of the two depictions of the Western Pure Land, viewers are able to identify significant similarities in beliefs regarding rebirth to the Western Pure Lands between the time periods of the Northern Qi and Tang Dynasties. In the essay I will explore how the plotters were punished and why they were punished so severely. Before you can explore the punishments, you first have to know the story. The Gunpowder Plot started on May 20th 1604; however, the reasons behind the plot started many years prior to that. In fact, the entire reason behind the plot dated back to Henry VIII, when religious turmoil broke out. You could say, all hell broke loose. It all started when Henry made his break from Rome to allow him to divorce his wife, Catherine of Aragon. This made England a Protestant country which many didn t like, or rather, hated. This turmoil continued for many years, as the next king, Edward, kept Protestantism whilst Mary, the following monarch, (also known as Bloody Mary) changed the national religion back to Catholicism and took her religion to further extremes by burning Protestants. Upon Mary s death Elizabeth I took the reigns and, yet again, switched the religion. She also persecuted those who didn t follow the same religion as her, as she made it illegal to be a Catholic and illegal to go to a non Protestant Church. James VI of Scotland came to the throne next and he, despite thoughts that he might have been kinder to Catholics, kept the aforementioned Recuncansy Laws. The country was a mess. This is where the plot we know so well comes in. A man named Robert Catesby was fed up, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 53. Writing In The Afterlife By Billy Collins . There were many events that occurred between the 1940s and today in the world. However, in America, a lot of the social issues were mostly dealing with sex, drugs, and alcohol. During the 1950s and 1960s, the social trends consisted of supply and demand. The supply and demand caused for there to be more entertainment as well as an increase in pay. A few types of entertainment pieces was the first magazine of Playboy being issued, more talk about sex, drugs, and alcohol in songs and the radio shows were transitioning to television shows. Due to the newspaper in New York City having competition with the television company, the employees of the newspaper went on strike in 1953 for an increase in wages (Musser 1960s). A form of entertainment, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Collins uses imagery in his poem Writing in the Afterlife in order to express his perception of the way the afterlife looks. The poem, Writing in the Afterlife is about the narrator/speaker talking about their perception of what heaven looks like to them. Then the poem goes into more precise detail as to the narrator/speaker actually entering into heaven. The way Collins could possibly relate the poem to his actual life is his perception of heaven, may have seen heaven in his past life, or someone he knows may have seen heaven in their past life. But more towards the end of the poem, he compares mentions his writing to be heavenly, in a sense because he mentions the writing is peaceful like heaven to him. The way imagery relates to Collins poem, Writing in the Afterlife is by Collins describing heaven. For example, Collins says, I imagined the atmosphere would be clear, / shot with pristine light,/..the air ionized as before a thunderstorm./ (Lines 1, 2, 4). Collins may have also written this poem in order to become at peace with the loss of his parents because he says, I knew I would not always be a child/ with a model train and a model tunnel/ (Lines 9 10). As a result, Collins is able to use imagery in order to display his perception as well as his active imagination of heaven through his poem Writing in the Afterlife (Poetry Foundation 2002). • 55. The Tell Tale Heart And The Birth Mark Only A Couple Of... Contemporaries Edgar Alan Poe and Nathaniel Hawthorne published their respective short stories The Tell Tale Heart and The Birth Mark only a couple of months apart. The Tell Tale Heart is the personal account of a young man s descent into madness as he becomes increasingly fixated on the eye of an older man, presumably his father. Similarly, The Birth Mark narrates the story of a young couple, Aylmer and Georgiana, and how the latter s birthmark becomes the obsession of the former. Poe and Hawthorne s literary genre of Dark Romanticismopposes human perfectibility, and both writers employ symbolism, irony, similar characters and plot to convey the theme that obsessions will inevitably lead to destruction. The authors of American Romanticism held a particular disdain for science, which they made visible through the aggressor characters in their short stories. Both aggressors wanted to do away with any imperfections in their environments, as they felt personally threatened by them. The younger man in The Tell Tale Heartbehaves in cold, calculated movements and dismembers the body of the old man like a butcher. In The Birth Mark Aylmer, a man of science, uses science in order to create a concoction that will remove his wife s birthmark. Of the potion Aylmer declares, Unless all science have deceived me, it cannot fail, (Hawthorne 428). The aggressors are severely flawed characters, who act on deranged impulses, but attempt to justify their actions rationally and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Experiment On The Concentration Of Acetic Acid Year 11 Chemistry Summative Practical CHEMICAL QUANTITIES Aim: To calculate the concentration of acetic acid in vinegar, CH3COOH via titration methods. Apparatus: 0.100 M standard solution of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) Household vinegar (CH3COOH) Phenolphthalein indicator Distilled water 200ml volumetric flask 250 ml conical flask 20ml volumetric pipette Burette Retort stand Filter funnel Method: Before the commencement of the practical, all necessary glassware and measurement tools were rinsed appropriately. The pipette was rinsed three times with vinegar solution, whereas the volumetric flask was rinsed three times with distilled water. 20mL of the vinegar solution was measured and transferred to the volumetric flask, where it was diluted with distilled water by filling the flask to the 200mL graduation line. A 20ml aliquot of the aforementioned solution was extracted from the volumetric flask via the volumetric pipette and subsequently transferred to the conical flask. Three drops of phenolphthalein indicator were then added. The burette was filled with the provided NaOH solution of 0.1M, with volume measurements taken from the bottom of the meniscus. The conical flask was placed under the burette, from which a rough titration of the vinegar solution began. Titrations halted once a permanent color change was visible in the conical flask. This process was repeated until three concordant titre values were obtained. Results and Calculations: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
