Why Enron Became A Middle Man Company
With the changing of the economy in the late 1990s, as the old millennium was ending and the new
one beginning, one particular company discovered a new way to rise to the top in the trading business.
Enron, originally known as a natural gas pipeline company [started by Kenneth Lay in 1985], soon
became known as an energy trading corporation that bought and sold gas as well as electricity. (Fox,
1). With over 20,000 employees and 40 worldwide businesses, The Houston, TX Corporation soon
became a prodigy of the times. Originally it made its profit by promising to deliver a particular
amount of gas to certain businesses at market price on particular days. (O Harrow Jr.). Soon, Enron
became a middle man company, placing it between buyers and sellers and making money off of the
difference between the selling and buying prices. Their books were kept closed to each opposing party,
making Enron the only one to know both prices. (O Harrow Jr.). After entering many complex and
intense contracts, the corporation entered into business with Arthur Andersen, an accounting firm who
handled Enron s auditing. (Fox, 6). Enron had complex services and high rising stocks. At the top of
the game, Enron was a company worth about $70 billion; its stocks were trading at a rate of $90 a
share, and seemed indestructible. Explanation of how Enron worked with the idea of supply and
demand (Phoenix)

Freedom To Invade Research Paper
Freedom to Invade Suppose we lived in a world where Barney Phife was the norm; where Little
House on the Prairie was the norm or Leave it to Beaver was the adventures of every young man?
Many have said if we could just go back to simpler times when right was right and wrong was wrong
and no one came uninvited to thrust themselves upon our quiet family time. However, I would need to
take my cell phone with me and I most certainly could not do without my pda in order to function as
an upstanding and responsible citizen. This is where many people find themselves quandering
between the technology of today and the simplicity of the past. With this technology has come the
ability for others to enter our homes at perhaps the most inopportune times uninvited to thrust upon us
their wares for profit or for charity. The question therein lies as to whether the first amendment
guarantees the right for those to come and go as they please into our world or do the citizens of this
great nation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this knowledge, many have renewed their names but a vast majority of Americans are not aware
that the 5 year rule exists and they will be rudely awakened when the calling begins this summer.
There are some exceptions to the rule and one of these according to Anderson (2008, February) is the
exclusion of charities, survey researchers, political campaigns, and any company that you have done
business with in the past 18 months (p. 1). The exemption receiving the most conflict is that of
charities which many times will use pressure tactics along with emotion to elicit monies that at times
will not end up where the consumer anticipates they will. Anderson (2008, February) goes on to say
federal regulators rely on consumer complaints to enforce the do not call lists and complaints can be
made at the registry web site (p.

Financial Projections
We present four scenarios (modest, reasonable expected, excellent and worst case) in our projections.
We project out five years (years 1 to 5). We use the contribution margin income statement format with

Origins of the First World War
The First World War was an international conflict which erupted in July 1914 involving various
nations across the world. Many historians and those who have studied the Great War tend to give
varied opinions as to what initially sparked the outbreak. However, although these opinions between
researchers differ, they do all tend to revolve around the hostility between the great powers of Europe,
the violent assassination of the Austro Hungarian Archduke Franz Ferdinand, and the controversial
pieces of German foreign policy known as Weltpolitik and Mitteleuropa, which according to political
theorist Hans Debruck (1899), would not only transform Germany into a nation of great economic and
military power, but also into a nation that has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This theory appeared to be very inspirational for Germany as they were unfortunately surrounded by
other dominant powers. With Social Darwinism in mind, the new German king Wilhelm II sparked
serious concern amongst the European powers by establishing two pieces of foreign policy known as
Weltpolitik and Mitteleuropa. Weltpolitik, according to Debruck (1899), was a piece of legislation that
was established to help the Germans pursue colonial and naval power in the grand manner through
either peace or war. The other policy, Mitteleuropa, also caused huge political unrest amongst the great
powers as it was viewed as a plan for Europe to be completely dominated by German empires. So
from the establishment of these two pieces of legislation, it quickly became unequivocal that Germany
was becoming a nation of potential threat. Additionally, the Germans were also accused by the British
media of trying to cause a civil war in Ireland by providing both loyalist and nationalist groups with
weapons; another example of Germanys uprising power and aggression (Padfield, 2005). So with
Germany becoming a particularly aggressive nation, causing the other nations such as Britain to
become somewhat solicitous, how were the other great powers such as Russia and Austria developing?
Throughout the expansion of Germany, Russia and Austria were

Who Is To Blame In The Cruel God Of Genesis
The Cruel God of Genesis
This essay will propose and support the thesis that God carries the blame for the expulsion of man
from the Garden of Eden and resulting downfall of mankind.
Genesis has always been the cause of heated discussions. The work itself is not all that confusing, but
rather the symbolism buried deep within the text is. The opinions of the reader often have a substantial
influence on the reader s interpretation of the text. Because the scripture has played such an important
role in the theological beliefs of so many Christians, extremely different interpretations of the text
have the potential to create distance between even the closest of friends and even worse, families. To
expect that all of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gave usually implies the transfer of possession from one person to another. In all actuality, God was
merely teasing Adam and Eve with the idea of eternal paradise. God knew of the inevitable original
sin and even still he gave Adam and Eve a taste of paradise. If indeed God loved them as much as he
supposedly did, wouldn t he have saved them the torment of having to surrender a true heaven on
earth because they made one little mistake? God knew that by giving man free will he would also be
giving them the opportunity to lose everything that they held dear to them. Also, if the will bestowed
on Adam were so free, why would he have to be subject to the consequences of his actions? In all
actuality, Adam and Eve did have free will; just as long as they didn t think for themselves and only
did what God told them to do. In essence, it is very much like getting something for free, but still
having to pay the tax. In other words, God dropped the theoretical ball when he came up with his not
so free will. The final question that remains is why? Why did God bring to an end his own creations
eternal happiness?
When given just the information presented in Genesis 1 3, the motives behind God s cruel plot are not
quite so obvious. But when consideration is taken for the fact that the entire Bible is, for all logical
reasons, God s plan set in plain ordinary words. All things must come to an end, so the saying goes.
Even the world as we know it will come to an end.

Abstract
An electrolyte is a substance that produces an electrically conducting solution when dissolved in a
polar solvent, such as water. The dissolved electrolyte separates into cations and anions, which
disperse uniformly through the solvent. There are electrolytes in sports drinks which athletes drink
which helps their body because the body depends on the electrolytes to control the cell membrane
stability and carry electrical charges.
Background
Sport drink types and electrolytes
Sport drinks are made for athletes and sports such as basketball, football, soccer, track, hockey, etc.
Sport drinks come in different flavors and different brands such as gatorade, powerade, 100plus, all
sport, body armor. Some brands can contain more electrolytes in their drinks than others. Gatorade is
one of the most known brands for their sports drinks and other sport products like energy bars. They
have many commercials for their brand and they also sponsor a lot of athletes such as lebron james
and tom brady and they also sponsor leagues such as the NBA. Powerade is another brand that is well
known for their sport drinks.
Intent
I intend to see which sport drink brand holds the most electrolytes in its products. For this science fair
project the independent variable is the types of sports drinks tested gatorade ,powerade ,All sport,

Any time that an avenue can be explored which benefits both sides of the aisle, it should be covered

The HAS is independent of the insurance plan, so it goes with the employee. If next year finds a better

keep looking for better plans. INTEREST CREATED THROUGH THE INVESTMENTS OF THE

interest is untaxed. This is another incentive for the employees to deposit monies into the funds.
HEALTH SPENDING ACCOUNTS ARE A GREAT PART OF A FRINGE PACKAGE WHICH

Jackie And Me Character Traits
After reading Jackie and Me by Dan Gutman, I have learned that Joe Stoshack is a dynamic character.
At the beginning of the book, Joe is misbehaving; eventually, Joe becomes thoughtful, and then very
self controlled.. These character traits were observed through Joe s actions, dialogue, relationships,
choices, and problems. In the first chapters I have learned that Joe was dishonest and through his
action and choices and this tells me this character cannot be trusted. One reason why Joe is dishonest,
is that Joe told Mrs. Robinson (Jackie s wife) and other people that he wasn t a time traveler even
thought Joe was. Another reason is that when Joe got back from the journey Joe didn t tell his teacher
that he went back in time Joe said he found it from the baseball cards and lied when he should have
been honest although he didn t want people to know. The last reason why Joe is dishonest, is when Joe
came back from the first time that he didn t tell his mom that he got chased down from the cops. ...

getting chased by the cops and was sneaky (mischievous) about the cops to his mom when he should

The Road Quotes
Giving fuels our Youth The value on youth is such an amazing thing, we take for granted what
younger people can do. But in the book The Road , a Boy and a Man traverse along an unknown
wasteland. As the story progresses, the boy starts to shape his caretaker to remind him of lessons he
was taught. I want you to drink it...He took the can sipped it and handed it back. (McCarthy 23). In
this part of the book, he exemplified the act of sharing and balancing the scale between selfless and
selfish behaviors. The man never wanted but to worry about the kid and leaving himself to more
torture, but as a kid you learn to realize that we should all be treated equally.

Not only does the Boy in the book The Road exemplify this, but in real life too. Our youthful
generation has given back so much in the past couple of years. One of them being via online
Philanthropy, such as GoFundMe. As said in an article by Raymund Flandez Donations to nonprofits
of all size grew by 14 percent last year (2016) . Which is incredible how the fountain of youth has
shined on non profits and struggling people to be able to use technology to their advantage. We now
live in a complex world where people can more easily spread their generosity. Young generations are
able to shape the world with new technological advances that older generations did not have, and its
gotten better. Nearly three quarters of the groups surveyed say their goal is for online donations to
account for more than 10 percent of their overall fundraising efforts in the next few years (Flandez).

How Did Military Advances Affect The Civil War
The Civil War was a tragic reality check for the people of America. Thus Military advances played a
drastic role in the war, allowing the North to hit enemies from longer range and fires its guns faster.
Economics also played a radical role in the war. It gave the north an advantage allowing it to fund the
military and purchase all the weapons needed. While military advances impacted the war, however the
economics affected the war the most. Military advances impacted the war greatly. Ironclad Warships

Tobias Smollett s Peregrine Pickle
During the mid 18th century, it was more important to keep a good reputation within society than to
show how one truly feels. When the interaction between the men start it is evident how angry and
frustrated each of the men are, however they don t express these feelings towards one another. Instead
of expressing their true feeling they end their dispute with a sword fight which, in this time period, is a
socially acceptable way. In Tobias Smollett s novel, The Adventures Of Peregrine Pickle, the
interaction between Peregrine and Godfrey show how social decorum can suppress ones feelings to
act upon natural instincts. Even though Peregrine and Godfrey are formal when speaking to one

men they still prioritize social norms. Once Godfrey wounded Mr. Pickle all of the emotions that
Peregrine hid came to life. Peregrine was transported with rage at the sight of his own blood, and
returned the assault with such fury and precipitation. Through the imagery in this quote, it shows how
the emotions of Peregrine built up so much that they eventual boiled over. He couldn t hold it in any

Everyone is born with innocence and they gradually gain experience through lessons learned in life;
some people may gain more that others. Not all lessons in life are dramatic or negative, some may be
subtle, positive, or even life altering; however, no matter how small or big, they do alter one s

experiences may be gained through love, war, or death, but in some way or another they have changed

The poem Oranges also deals with a boys first date and love. The speaker, who is only twelve, walked

Compare And Contrast The Raven And The Nightmare Before...
What is common between most horror films and texts? They all use similar types of codes and
conventions. These codes and conventions differ between genre and can be easily identified. These
also reflect the values of the audience they are intended for. The 1993 stop motion animated film, The
Nightmare Before Christmas , directed by Henry Selick, and the 1845 poem, The Raven , written by
Edgar Allan Poe, are both a part of the horror genre, as they follow the codes and conventions of that
genre. They use similar visuals, sounds, characterisation, and themes. Using these and other
conventions, audiences can identify a genre, which influences their opinions and feelings about the
genre.

Sound is extremely important in films, and the types of sound used differ between genre. Sound is
important in all films. Without sound, films do not possess as much power compared to if they did
have sound. In The Nightmare Before Christmas , multiple soundtracks are used throughout the film.
Two fantastic soundtracks in the film are This is Halloween and The Oogie Boogie Song . Both use
orchestral instruments and the lyrics are sung with deep voices. Diegetic sounds used in these
soundtracks and throughout the film include bats squeaking, bugs crawling, and pumpkin heads being
chopped off using a large metal blade. The effect of sounds, including soundtracks, is to enhance the
feeling experienced from the visuals. Deep voices and multiple orchestral instruments create suspense
and fear. As the music crescendos, the suspense increases as well. Loud, sudden sounds like a scream
or crash create sudden fright. Using different sounds, films are more exciting and can be used to
determine a genre.
In texts and films, one or more themes are used, and specific themes are conventional to different
genres. A commonly used theme in the horror genre is insanity, which is easily identifiable in The
Raven . In the poem, the narrator dreamt of things, smelt perfumes coming from an unseen censer ,
and even started shouting at the raven which sat still just above his chamber door. He kept asking

Walter Kasper s Jesus The Christ
Among the numerous works that are dedicated to the study of Christological and soteriological
themes, the work of Walter Kasper, Jesus the Christ, stands out with a vigor and character. This work
is considered, in itself, an outline of the overall presentation of the great Christological concerns. The
author, who seems to be a well acquainted with the exhibition of the Christological themes from
classical theology, has devoted many hours to the study of modern philosophy. To all of this, it must
be added that Kasper suggests that he approaches the life and work of the Redeemer with the desire to
transmit the received tradition I a living way, that is, in conjunction and confrontation with the
comments and questions of a particular time. In this way, Kasper seems to understand his work as a
contemporary transmission of an inheritance from the past and of responsible commentary on
tradition.
This transmission and responsible commentary on tradition must be understood in the context of a
double judgement made by Kasper around Christianity and the philosophical thought. Kasper suggests
that Christianity is in a transitional state. In terms of philosophical thought, the author claims that the
modern principle of subjective, the process in which man posits himself as the starting point and
measure for understanding reality as a whole, is certainly in relation to the history of Christianity. In

America s Search for a Cultural Center
The average American child can not even comprehend what institutions provide cultural enhancement.
Is that too bold a statement? I don t think so. Primarily because American culture probably doesn t
exist in any real form. The closest we get to art is in our cinema. Art as a practiced form is lost.
Literacy rates are abominable, museums are underfunded in response to the lack of public interest in
viewing their wares, and art classes are practically non existent as more and more schools have cut
those programs in response to budgetary concerns. Art is a learned appreciation. And we are not
teaching it. But good cinema can incite conversation, can entertain, and can act as an artistic base for

The bifurcation was reinforced by a corresponding appropriation of different parts of the city. San Jose
s redevelopment agency has faced the same prospects in their attempts to create a beautiful downtown
area that would attract the business community. But even as they put up buildings for high tech
companies on newly appropriated redevelopment turf the dickering continues over what to do with the
lingering abandoned landmarks. Culture and business are often at the core of any downtown. Rich
cultural venues, like theater, cinema, and art galleries attract those people who would be patrons. But
the proximity of business anchors them to the area. And that is one of the functions the Camera
Cinema s initially provided to a struggling downtown San Jose.
In the early years of redevelopment, the downtown had no soul. Any draw it did have amidst the
closed shops and construction came from the enterprising theaters that brought variety to the cultural

many of the area s small businesses, the shops and boutiques that bring charm and character, are

decided a commercial theater could attract people to the downtown area, where they might enjoy the

An Amazing Homemade Recipes By Chicken Tamales
An amazing homemade recipe, both to cook and to eat, is chicken tamales. Tamales go way back in
time in the Hispanic culture. From many centuries ago up until now, tamale recipes have been altered
in many ways, they are made in all different sizes, colors, and tastes. Tamales is a traditional dish to
serve at holidays, where there is expected to be a big crowd to feed. The homemade recipe is my
mother s; her chicken tamales are enriched with two different savory spicy fillings. Cooking may
come easy to some and maybe not so easy to others. However, this dish does take a few hours to

dedication and love can be tasted from the first bite, after that bite, there is no stopping there.
In order to make chicken tamales, there is quite a grocery list that comes with it. Chicken tamales

tamales a big working space in the kitchen is highly recommended. It is best to sectionalize the

Runner¨. A renowned Afghan man named Baba is his father, and a hazara boy named hassan is his best
friend/brother. The antagonist is Assef who creates many problems for Amir all throughout his life.
Amir appears to be a morally ambiguous character due for the acts of his childhood and adulthood.
Amir seems to be a very selfish person who will avoid any conflict that does not involve him. Amir is
the son of Baba and Hassan s best friend. Even though Hassan and Amir are great friends, Amir seems
to take their friendship for granted. On the day of the kite running tournament, Hassan gets mixed up
with gang who intend to rape him. They proceed to do so as Amir sits at the sidelines and watches.
Amir says, ¨I had one last chance to make a decision. One final opportunity to decide who I was going
to be. I could step into that alley, stand up for Hassan the way he d stood up for me all those times in
the past and accept whatever would happen to me. Or I could run. In the end I ran. I ran because I was
a coward. I was afraid of Assef and what he would do to me.¨ (Hosseini 77) Amir has the option to
help his friend who has been with him through thick and thin, but afraid of his own personal safety, he
runs. Leaving Hassan completely alone and helpless. Amir also desires attention from his father and
will think or do awful things to get it. Amir says, I d, ask Ali where Baba was, when he was coming
home, though I know full well he was at the construction site over looking this, supervising that. Didn
t that take patience? I already hated all the kids he was building the orphanage for; sometimes I d wish
they d all die along with their parents. In Amir s mind, getting Baba s attention is all that matters.
Sacrificing others for his own gain becomes a habit of his. Amir is aware of his selfishness and in
someway wants to make up for it.
Contrary to what Amir seems to be he actually is a good samaritan.

Coclear Impairment
In my experience I have realized that there is always a gap. As you make bigger efforts in one aspect,
another one falls back. Everywhere I have worked, I found two kinds of teachers: The ones who
always do the same and the ones who try to do a good job. In both cases, they use to say how
frustrated they are because the results are not what they expected. The issue is that they are not aware
of how education has changed and that we can not have the same expectations of all our students. Age,
capacities, attitude, family, social context, appereance, are factors that influence directly the outcomes
of a student in the classroom. However, these factors are managed as external issues that are someone
else s responsibility.
Currently, I work in a public school with an inclusion program for deaf or hearing impairment
students. When I started to teach in tenth grade, I received two students in opposite corners. Both had
a coclear implant, but one of them experienced his educational process of primary to ninth grade with
deaf students and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

challenge is basically transform students and teachers minds towards the concepts of education,
inclusion and differenciated instruction. As long as the country accept that everybody is different ,

Was Trujillo Justified In The Time Of The Butterflies
From the book, In the Time of the Butterflies, the Mirabal sisters sacrificed a lot in order to fight for
justice and social change against the oppressive regime of the Dominican dictator, Trujillo. However,
while fighting for their freedoms and rights, Trujillo had them imprisoned and assassinated. Their
actions motivated many others to fight for the cause, eventually leading to Trujillo s assassination by
none other than his own generals. While some claim that it was not justified for the sisters to make
such extreme sacrifices in order to fight against Trujillo s oppressive regime, others say that their
actions proved to be beneficial and helpful for the country. I believe that their actions were heroic and

Trujillo by secretly taking newspaper clippings of his wrongdoings and having them in their hair. Had
they given up in prison, their cause and motivation for other revolutionaries would have died right
there. However, they stayed persistent and resilient to continue fighting against Trujillo s regime.
Imagine if they had not stayed true to their cause. Trujillo may not have been overthrown! His
despotic and inhumane ways of treating his country and people may have never ended. People who
would say anything opposing him would be instantly put to death. There would be no freedom of

Ron Rash Local Color Analysis
Poetry has always been a way of expressing emotions about life experiences. Poetry allows us to use
symbolism to express ideas without the use of proper language. Things like our feelings about local
scenery and culture can be expressed in symbols and imagery. One example of this, Ron Rash s poem
Local Color , explores the concepts of place and identity and suggests they are intertwined. Examples
of how place and identity are intertwined are shown in the grandfather s identity as a regular at the
local bar, the grandmother s identity as a homemaker and wife at home, and the idea that by going to
the church the grandfather was going to change his identity. First, the main thrust of this poem is about
how after a long day of work the grandfather ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This change of location is implied to change his entire identity as a new man . But, really it did not
change him at all and because he went back to his old ways. You pretend to be someone you really are
not and when you sober up nine times out of ten you will go back to the way you were before. Unless,
you are serious about changing. Unfortunately, in the grandfather s case, he was not serious enough
about changing. The truth is he was just a drunk man committing an old sin over and over. He did not
care enough and he just went back to his old ways. That is exactly what happened in Local Color ,
While my grandfather swore he d alter his life, / give up the drinking, go to church twice a week. / He
was contrite and seemed to have changed. / He was a new man, for a few days. / But by Saturday, he
was at it again. (32 35) Generally, people would go to alcoholism groups to get better but as the
Appalachian newsgroup says Appalachian people share a religious world view, even those members
without religious beliefs. Because of this religious view, Appalachian people look upon some
behaviors, such as alcoholism, as sin even though they are intellectually aware that such behaviors are
a form of mental illness. ( Appalachia: Is It a Region or Culture? , web) Because of this religious view
in the area the Grandfather decides to go to church to be reformed instead of going to Alcoholism

Media Day At The Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cleveland Cavaliers had an entire summer to dwell on their crushing loss to the Golden State

I think last year is last year, and this year is this year, Cavs head coach David Blatt said at the team s
media day on Monday. We do have high expectations. Our goals are clear and are stated, but not

It s important for all of us to not overstate, but to overachieve.
Blatt admitted he borrowed that last quote from Cavs general manager David Griffin, who never fails
to reiterate the organization s ultimate goal Bring a championship to the title starved city of Cleveland.
The elephant in the room can t go unnoticed. The Cavs haven t won an NBA title since the franchise

Diabetes Mellitus ( Dm )
Diabetes mellitus (DM) exists in 29.1 million people, or 9.3% of the United States population, and of
these 29.1 million people, 65% will die from a form of heart disease. DM adds incremental risk to the
development or subsequent exacerbation of heart failure; this holds true even after adjustment of
common risk factors such as ischemic heart disease and hypertension. Furthermore, the prevalence of
heart failure in patients with DM is between 10% and 22%; this is four times higher than the general
population.
Controlling blood glucose has been widely accepted as a method to reduce risk of atherosclerotic
cardiovascular events and new onset heart failure; although this observational relationship exists, no
evidence from randomized controlled trials illustrates that improved glycemic control modifies risk.
Many of the antihyperlipidemic agents, namely thiazolidinediones, dual peroxisome proliferator
activated receptor agonists, sulfonylureas, and insulin may cause adverse events such as increased
plasma volume, exacerbation of heart failure, dysregulation of myocardial metabolism, and worsening
of left ventricular function; therefore, a clinical concern exists with prescribing agents that may lead to
morbidity and mortality.
The United States Food and Drug Administration has set standards on new diabetic drugs safety in
regards to major adverse cardiovascular events, but heart failure events are not included in this safety
requirement. Moreover, the rates of heart failure

Social Bond Theory Paper

life. For the purpose of this paper, I am going to write about one of my close friend Danny. Danny has
done a lot of things throughout his life, both bad and good and he is a good example for some of the
theories that we have discussed in class. The two theories that I am going to write about are the social

It is the emotional component of conformity referring to one s attachment to others and to the social
institutions, such as family and schools (Walsh 2015, p.134). From these social institutions, we learn
what to expect from others and what is expected of us in return in our society. Over time, we come to
recognize the society norms as a part of our identity and obtain the understanding of social boundaries
that helps us from not being self centered and prevents us from violating the social norms. Due to
strong attachments we consider what our family and peers will think about us if we commit any crime
or think about doing some unlawful acts. If a person does not have strong attachments to their social
institutions then they might feel left out and they will not recognize the importance of social
boundaries. The second component of the social bond theory is commitment. It is the rational
component of conformity referring to a lifestyle in which one has invested considerable time and
energy in the pursuit of a lawful career (Walsh 2015, p.134).Commitment is also another element that
prevents us from committing a crime or violate the social norms. A person who has invested their time
and energy into conforming to social norms and expectations, such as pursuing educational goals, are
less likely to commit crime because of the time and effort they had applied to reach their goals. And
people that are heavily invested in their commitments have more to lose compared to someone whose

The Intellectual Roots Of Modern Day Environmentalism
Many people today do not understand or appreciate the lasting effects that the environmental
movement of the 1960s brought to our world. The things that most people immediately associate with
the 1960s usually include the Civil Rights movement, Vietnam, the space race, student protests and the
hippie generation, underscoring the fact that the environmental movement is often put aside relative
these seemingly more iconic symbols of this decade. The 1960s certainly did not mark the first time
that efforts were made in the United States to change attitudes, policies, and views regarding the
environment. Many trace the intellectual roots of modern day environmentalism all the way back to
the 19th century American writers and philosophers Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau,
most notably the latter s 1854 work, Walden. President Theodore Roosevelt set aside more public land
for national parks than all of his predecessors combined. His policies and views about conservation
remained dominate for decades (nps.org). The efforts made by these figures in the mid 1800s through
the early part of the 20th century were crucial for paving the way for what would come in later years.
The main reason for such progress in the environmental movement in the 1960s is because of
influential leaders, the prominent role of media, and a generation of people who were not afraid to
initiate change.
Influential figures in the 1960s were the first ones to bring to light the urgency of the

How Music Defines You Essay
I think music in itself is healing. It s an explosive expression of humanity. It s something we are all
touched by. No matter what culture we re from, everyone loves music. This famous quote said by
Billy Joel does a good job describing the way music can affect people. Different songs can impact
people, change their moods, or bring back memories related to a certain tune. Each person, however,
has their own unique taste in music; one song can be loved by one but hated by another, it all depends
on our personal taste and what we can relate to. This made me wonder, what does the music I listen to
say about myself? Do the lyrics define who I am as a person, or do I simply like songs because of the
beat? As I looked at my top ten playlist, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second song I analyzed was Paradise by Coldplay. Similarly to Kids , the song Paradise starts
with the idea of childhood. When she was just a girl she expected the world. But it flew away from her
reach so she ran away in her sleep and dreamed of paradise is the opening verse for this tune. It talks
of a young girl with big dreams expecting the world. As the girl in the song grows up she finds that
life is not as simple as she believed. Life goes on, it gets so heavy. The wheel breaks the butterfly.
Every tear a waterfall. In the night the stormy night she ll close her eyes. Those lyrics are a good
example of how life has some downs, tears, and storms, but it talks of how the girl stays positive when
the song says, She d say, I know the sun must set to rise. I think this song is a good reflection of me. I
have big dreams for myself, but as life goes on I go through some bumps in the road. I have
encountered many of my own stormy nights, but I know the sun will rise to a clearer and brighter day
in time. I have learned not to expect things to be handed to me, but to chase after my dreams, and my
own perfect paradise to a path of success. My final and favorite song I looked at was the song Pursuit
of Happiness by Kid Cudi. Kid Cudi is my favorite artist, so it makes sense that my favorite song is
one of his most popular. However, when I tell people my favorite artist is Kid Cudi, they give me
weird looks because most of his songs do not

Themes In Snowpiercer
Bong Joon ho s 2013 science fiction film, Snowpiercer, based in a graphic novel of the same name,
offers a look into a frozen future where the last of mankind lives on an evermoving locomotive. It s a
contemporary film focused around the theme of classism in society, driven by metaphors for where we
are and where we are going. With an almost mashup of Orwell meeting the 99%, the story focuses on
the inhabitants of the suppressed population of the train s tail section, led by Chris Evans Curtis,
revolting against the forward living. The film s narrative in relation to its theme is the focal point of
the film and it s main driving force. By using a linear narrative, Joon ho allows the story to move
forward as the characters move towards the front of train. With each decision Curtis makes, the
blocking of his movements is always in a forward motion. He is always looking forward because he
has a definite purpose and only second guesses in a scene (the only scene) where he looks forward and
backward toward two separate outcomes of one decision as the camera follows his head movement in

tell if it s the way he meant the character to be portrayed and that s just Evan s natural charismatic
nature showing through but it adds a layer to the character that makes his decisions and emotions seem
more concrete. The rest of the cast does a great job of carrying out action beats in relation to the
workings of the class and machinery present in the film s screenplay. I do feel that some other
characters expositions are not layered enough to evoke any emotion and that does take away from the

Judging means one who likes a planned and organized approach to life and want to have things

chaotic. This is probably one of the reasons I am an overthinker. I worry about everything because I
can be a perfectionist and if things do not go as planned I lose sleep. For example, for all my classes I

Environmental Issues Challenging The Clean Water Act Of...
Coastal Area I live less than a mile from the San Francisco Bay and Estuary (SFBay). I wrote about
this bay s environmental issues in the Unit #1 Learning Journal assignment and have decided to use
this opportunity to elaborate on two specific environmental issues challenging the SFBay. To
summarize this ecosystem: It s the largest bay and estuary on the Pacific coast and has been damaged
by industrial activity, starting in 1850 with the Gold Rush and quickly followed by the logging,
railroad and salt pond industries. Its biggest threats are pollution, water diversion and filling in.
Conservation efforts began in 1965 and today the SFBay is collectively overseen by government and
private organizations. Two environmental problems the SFBay faces are mercury contamination and
overfishing. The Clean Water Act lists the SFBay as impaired for mercury. Estimates suggest the bay s
sediment is contaminated with about two hundred metric tons of mercury, much going back to original
Gold Rush. This pollutant has affected SFBay biota resulting in a state issued fish advisory waning not
to eat some common fish such as Striped bass and limited intake of other species (OEHHA, 2011; Ely
Viani, 2010). At the same time humanity was busy cutting down thousand year old redwood trees and
hydraulically destroying the Sierra Mountains, they were also busy pillaging the SFBay for fish,
shellfish and perhaps the unlucky whale pod that happened by. Some species were immediately

where profits and occupancy decline. Although a smaller market segment compared to five star hotels,
five star resorts still require the services of a consultant even if they are experienced companies.
Michelin Star Restaurants: Michelin Star restaurants are some of the highest rated and most expensive
restaurants in the world. Needless to say, that even some of the best restaurants need consulting. The
challenge of whetting the appetite of a gourmand would mean adapting to the ever changing trends in
food and service preferences. These restaurants occupy a niche portion of our target market, as they
are few in number.
Elite Nightclubs: It is common knowledge that nightclubs have a rather short life span. The same goes
for the elite nightclubs. This is due to the constantly changing trends in nightlife. Every year there is a

Propaganda During The Great War
The Great War was not only fought with tanks, U boats, and trench warfare, but it was a war of
propaganda. Propaganda from both sides was used throughout the Great War to help try and shape the
opinions of each embattled nation. This total war did not just require innovative weapons, but also
innovative and at times even deceptive propaganda. The British, Germans and United States
governments specifically, invested a lot of resources into propaganda as a way to increase recruitment
numbers, build international support, and instill a sense of confidence in what was the Great War.
Countries had to not just focus their efforts on getting people from their own country to support them,
but also neutral countries, as well as having to focus on the enemies by use of atrocity propaganda. In
turn, this led to governments tampering with the human will, and even using deceit, all in an effort to
help solidify their sides victory. In turn, propaganda played a vital role in the Great War and
additionally created an everlasting influence on both war and media in the world today. Unlike
previous wars, this war required not just millions of men to serve their own countries, but it required
the support of all civilians to help play a role in the war efforts. M.L Saunders stated During the war,
sections of the community which has previously remained uninvolved in the exigencies of national
survival had found themselves directly affected by events at the front line. Life changed for

Comparing Emerson And Thoreau
During the nineteenth century, the new philosophical trend of transcendentalism occurred. Ralph
Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau, two contemporary authors, expressed transcendentalist
ideas through their writing. Their perspectives of nature and society were both very similar. They
believe people need to simplify their lives, and spend time in nature. To them, nature is the key to
peace and tranquillity that people knowingly and unknowingly seek. Herman Melville, another
contemporary author of that time, has a very different view of nature. Through Moby Dick, he
expresses his ideas that nature is essentially evil. He thinks that it is dangerous, and in order to protect
yourself you need to go on the offense against it. Thoreau and Emerson urge people to live a peaceful,
simplistic life and they think that spending time in nature, which is essentially good, is the key to
doing so, while Melville thinks that nature is a destructive force that people should either avoid or
fight. Emerson is one of the first people to introduce the idea of nature being the key to peace. He
insists that the natural world is beautiful, and people should spend their time in it. In his essay Nature,
Emerson says Nature never wears a mean appearance/Nature never becomes a toy to a wise spirit
(Emerson 1). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By living in the wilderness, he finds true peace and harmony. Like Emerson, he thinks that nature is
beautiful, gentle, and everybody should spend time in it. Society corrupts you and distracts you from
the wonders that the natural world has to offer. Thoreau used nature to intertwine with his spirituality,
such as in Walden when he says I got up early and bathed in the pond; that was a religious exercise,
and one of the best things which I did (Thoreau 6). This was a way for him to become closer to the
universe through nature. He thought that by doing this each morning he was given new strength for

Rosalind Darwin
Charles Darwin and Isaac Newton faced challenges in their respective research as a result of religious
and cultural beliefs of the time influencing their work, but there is another individual who faced
different issues that influenced their research. It is fairly well known that James Watson and Francis
Crick discovered the structure of DNA, but it is not as commonly known that an individual by the
name of Rosalind Franklin also played a key role in this research. Rosalind Franklin had been trying
to uncover the secrets of DNA during the same time as Watson and Crick and she actually quite close
to figuring it out. At the time she didn t quite realize what she had and if she did than it would have
most certainly been her who would have been credited with the research. It wasn t until Watson and
Crick were shown Franklin s research that they were able to pull ahead and fully figure out the
structure of DNA. It was said that while Rosalind s work was fundamental to the discovery, she had
not been consulted on its use , meaning that she did a large part of the work and someone else was
given the credit (Maddox). Showing them the progress made by Franklin was done without their
permission. Franklin contributed a large part to the research done on the structure of DNA and it wasn
t until much later she was given credit for it. Why Rosalind Franklin was not given credit for the
amount of work she contributed in the research of DNA is not completely clear, but it may have been
caused by cultural issues she faced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Problem Of Chest Pain
Since most people in our society consider chest pain to be of a cardiac origin, pediatric chest pain can
not only be scary the child, but can also cause anxiety for the parents due to the fear of their child s
condition. Luckily, many causes of chest pain are usually benign and rarely can be a sign of cardiac
disease. With this in mind, providers should complete a preliminary evaluation for chest pain, decide
on differential diagnoses, and than develop an appropriate plan. Providers should also be aware of the
most likely causes of chest pain in children, which include reactive airway disease, musculoskeletal
pain, esophagitis, gastritis, and functional pain (Hay, Levin, Deterding, Abzug, 2014). Will all of those
in mind, by far the most common cause in children is chest pain from a musculoskeletal injury. The
initial evaluation should include a detailed history and physical examination to help guide the provider
to the proper workup, and rarely is there a need for laboratory tests or evaluation by a specialist (Hay,
Levin, Deterding, Abzug, 2014). First finding out when the pain started, last month, last year, and so
forth, will be of high importance, then once a time frame is establish, details about the most recent
episode should be obtained. The provider should ask how long the pain lasted, what made it
better, made it worse, and then move on to what brought on the pain, with arm movement, breathing,
dizziness, particular activity and so forth. Once the cause

Larkin Church Going
Religion affects everyone s lives. Even for an atheist religion shapes the world around them. In his
poem Church Going , Philip Larkin shows the daily struggles and doubts of atheists, who are
constantly having God thrown into their faces by using a bitter tone and gloomy imagery.
Philip Larkin uses a bitter tone throughout his poem to represent the resentful feelings that the speaker
has towards believing in God. For example, Once I am sure there s nothing going on I step inside,
letting the door thud shut, Another Church . Here he is showing his doubts of walking into the church.
He checks to make sure nothing or nobody sees him walking inside as though they might see him as a
religious man. Later Larkin says, I sign the book, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

church. The sprawlings of flowers were cut for Sunday and were beautiful, then slowly turned to a
brownish color showing Larkin s negativity towards christianity. He then states, Move forward, run
my hand around the font. From where I stand, the root looks almost new Cleaned or restored?
Someone would know: I don t. Larkin uses imagery very heavily in this quote. He says the roots of the
wood in the church look almost new. He thinks that someone had recently cleaned the wood due to
how fresh it looked. there is a sense of doubt in his tone during the quote. He says, Someone would

another shadowy quote, A few cathedrals chronically on show, Their parchment, plate and pyx in

this quote, but it is what isn t said that makes it feel

Antitrust Policy Essay
The antitrust policy or the anti monopoly policy was created to prevent monopolization which occurs
in a market structure in which there is only a single seller of a good, service, or resource. In the
antitrust law, a monopoly, is a dominant firm that accounts for a high percentage of sales in a given
market (739). Furthermore, the antitrust policy promotes fair competition in a market, and allocative
efficiency which occurs when production meets the consumers taste and preferences, in a particular
good, to which marginal cost and the price or marginal benefit are equal. The antitrust policy was
created due to the dominant industries that controlled the market during the 1870 s and 1880 s. The

Mrs Helenne Alving And Ghosts
Plenty published by David Hare in 1978 and Ghosts published by Henrik Ibsen in 1881, might have
almost a gap of hundred years in publication, but they are both plays that attest the intertemporal issue
of society s pressure on the woman. In the notes of A Doll s house, in 1878, Ibsen writes A woman
cannot be herself in contemporary society, it is an exclusively male society with laws drafted by men,
and with counsel and judges who judge feminine conduct from the male point of view. The female
protagonist in Ghosts, Mrs Helene Alving, has been influenced by the society s need of forming
women that are first, obedient daughters, then, obedient wives, dutiful mothers, but in general,
obedient individuals of that society s ideals, conventions and traditions. In Plenty, the audience gets to
examine years of Susan Traherne s life, from her World War II activity as a courier in the French
Renaissance to her emotional privation in the post Suez British plenty . Even after the war, Susan
cannot sustain a fulfilling life since the society s ideals and conventions disharmonize with her own
opinions and purpose. The common element between Mrs Alving and Susan is that as women they are
expected to fit into a certain role in the real life, directed by the society itself, a life that diminishes
their personal fulfilment.
To begin with, Ghosts is a play that does not solely examine the society s pressure on the women, but
the impact of society on every individual regardless of gender.

Summary Of Software Prefects
Abstract Early predictions of software defects during software development life cycle play a vital role
to produce successful software project. Besides, it reduces the cost of software development,
maintains high quality, improves software testing and facilitates procedures to identify defect prone of
software packages. We need more research studies today to improve convergence across research
studies due to its use a different of inconsistent measurements. Therefore, to avoid several types of
bias: different sizes of the dataset are used in our study to avoid the bias of data. Comparative studies

Therefore, if we can identify which modules in software most probably to be defective it can help us
to reduce our limited resources and time of development [2]. Based on the specific types of software
metrics in the previous research studies, numbers of predictive classification model are proposed for
software quality it can explore the defectives in some of the software modules by using several types
of classifiers such as decision tree [3], SVM [4], ANN [5] and Naïve Bayes [6]. The classification
model is one of the most common approaches used for early prediction of software defects [7],
including two categories: Fault Prone (FP) software and Non Fault Prone (NFP) software. The
prediction model represented by a set of code attribute or software metrics [7, 8]. The objective of this
research is utilized ensemble learning method that combines the vote of multiple learner classifiers by
using the different subset of feature to improve the accuracy of supervised learning. Another
advantage of ensemble methods, it enhances the performance by using different types of classifiers
together because it reduces the variance between them and keeps bias error rate without increasing.
Two main types of ensemble methods [9]: Bagging and Boosting techniques [10]. The first one

A Short Note On The Atlantic Bluefin Tuna
Thunnus Thynnus, or the Atlantic Bluefin Tuna, is one of the largest species of tuna, weighing in at
over 600 kilograms and four meters in length. It is known for its speed and takes the shape of a
torpedo. In its environment, the Atlantic Bluefin Tuna acts as one of the top predators. It preys on
smaller fish, such as herring, mackerel and eels. The Atlantic Bluefin Tuna is separated into two main
populations, Eastern and Western. Although located in different geographical areas they are not
isolated and individuals migrate between the two populations allowing gene flow. The Atlantic Bluefin
Tuna s population ranges all through the pelagic zone of the Atlantic. The Western Atlantic population
spawns in the Gulf of Mexico, and the Eastern Atlantic population spawns in the Mediterranean Sea.
In the fishing industry it is highly coveted for sports fishing, especially in the United States and
Canada, and in the sashimi market for high end sushi. As a result of the high demands for the Tuna it
is being heavily overfished causing the population to decline dramatically. The low supply and high
demand for the Tuna has made them extremely valuable; a single fish in Tokyo s Tsukiji fish market
sold for 1.76 million dollar (Bluefin, 2013). This high value of the Atlantic Bluefin Tuna has resulted
in illegal pirate fishing causing more harm to the population. If the illegal pirate fishing and
overfishing of the Atlantic Bluefin Tuna continues, the species will become extinct resulting

Investigating The Substances Of Water Chromatography
Most chemists and many other scientists must routinely separate mixtures and identify their
components. The ability to qualitatively identify the substances found in a sample can be critical. For
example, an environmental chemist investigating samples of polluted ground water will want to know
which toxic ions might be present in a sample. Chromatography is one of the first tools used in such
situations. In this technique, many types of mixtures can be separated into the component pure
substances; by comparison to a standard sample, each component substance can also be tentatively
identified. Many varieties of chromatography exist, each one designed to separate specific types of
mixtures. The common feature of each type of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The movement of the components in the mobile phase is controlled by the significance of their
interactions with the mobile and/or stationary phases. Because of the differences in factors such as the
solubility of certain components in the mobile phase and the strength of their affinities for the
stationary phase, some components will move faster than others, thus facilitating the separation of the
components within that mixture.
The first chromatograph was invented by Russian botanist Mikhail Semenovich Tsvett. Mikhail Tsvet
was born 14 May 1872 in Asti, Italy. His mother was Italian, and his father was a Russian official. His
mother died soon after his birth, and he was raised in Geneva, Switzerland. He received his B.S.
degree from the Department of Physics and Mathematics at the University of Geneva in 1893.
However, he decided to dedicate himself to botany and received his Ph.D. degree in 1896 for his work
on cell physiology. He moved to Saint Petersburg, Russia, in 1896 because his father was recalled
from the Foreign Service. There he started to work at the Biological Laboratory of the Russian
Academy of Sciences. His Geneva degrees were not recognized in Russia, and he had to earn Russian
degrees. In 1897 he became a teacher of botany courses for women. In 1902 he became a laboratory
assistant at the Institute of Plant Physiology of the Warsaw University in

Persuasive Essay On Internet Privacy
Consumers of the Internet continually yearn for the time where there Internet privacy will be taken
into consideration. Sadly, that day may never come. The Internet has become a very lucrative world
with many players involved. Now that there are criminals who break into websites and steal
information for personal gain, there s a huge incentive to protect consumers at all costs. Meaning there
s a need to increase Internet monitoring to ensure the protection of consumers, which violates the
privacy of everyone who uses the Internet. For all the consumers of the Internet, Internet privacy
should be entitled to everyone. It s virtually impossible to grant Internet privacy, when you have
entities stealing and using critical and personal information.
Everybody blames advertising when it comes to personal information on the Internet. That s only the
tip of the iceberg. The Internet has become a very vulnerable place for hackers or people who stolen
information for personal gain. According to NBC news, there was a 20 year old woman, Amy Boyer
who was stalked with the help of the Internet. The hacker/killer bought Boyer s social security for $45
from a website. Boyer was murdered on Oct.15, 1999. The killer immediately committed suicide after
the murder of Amy Boyer. Because of incidents like this, it s so hard to grant total privacy.
Sadly, privacy concerns don t only arise from criminal activity. Ian Oxman, a well known spam fighter
and privacy advocate decided to trace a car back to its previous owner. Oxman was surprised at how
easy it is to track the former owner. Upon calling up the previous owner, he response is You don t
know who I am but I m driving the car you sold. At the very end she says, How did you find me?
Internet users are saying, How did you find me? more than they are comfortable with. The real
question is, are consumer s privacy not taken seriously? It s agreed that monitoring the Internet is
great for protecting valuable information, but one should not be able to track someone as easily as
Oxman did.
Most websites will track generic information. Websites leave cookies on your computer so that other

Societal Values Of The Puritans
The Puritans have been portrayed to be a society which lives based on values, and very strict
interpretations of those values. Societal values revolve around the Puritan religion, with the main idea
being that God had made a covenant with their people to live according to the Scripture and to set an
example for other societies to follow. With God s covenant in mind, the Puritans lived a very
straightforward, yet tense life. Through Puritan literature, it is clear the lives of the Puritans were
based around the covenant between God and the society, with any mistakes leading to punishment and
fear within the people causing the inevitable demise of Puritan society. The Puritans lived a life in
which there was a very fine line between what was agreeing with God s covenant, and what was going
against the agreement. Much of the actions taken by the Puritans was not to help themselves, but
rather to please God. In their voyage to Cape Cod, the Puritans were faced with many challenges, yet
they never backed down, because it was God s will they succeed, So they committed themselves to the
will of God and resolved to proceed, (Bradford , Of Plymouth Plantation (26)). Because the Puritan s
believed God s strong assertion for their society to succeed and to follow through on the covenant,
they kept sailing until the ship landed at Cape Cod. Moreover, the passengers and sailors on the ship
were faced with fear that if they failed to reach the New World, it would be a failure on

  • 2. Why Enron Became A Middle Man Company With the changing of the economy in the late 1990s, as the old millennium was ending and the new one beginning, one particular company discovered a new way to rise to the top in the trading business. Enron, originally known as a natural gas pipeline company [started by Kenneth Lay in 1985], soon became known as an energy trading corporation that bought and sold gas as well as electricity. (Fox, 1). With over 20,000 employees and 40 worldwide businesses, The Houston, TX Corporation soon became a prodigy of the times. Originally it made its profit by promising to deliver a particular amount of gas to certain businesses at market price on particular days. (O Harrow Jr.). Soon, Enron became a middle man company, placing it between buyers and sellers and making money off of the difference between the selling and buying prices. Their books were kept closed to each opposing party, making Enron the only one to know both prices. (O Harrow Jr.). After entering many complex and intense contracts, the corporation entered into business with Arthur Andersen, an accounting firm who handled Enron s auditing. (Fox, 6). Enron had complex services and high rising stocks. At the top of the game, Enron was a company worth about $70 billion; its stocks were trading at a rate of $90 a share, and seemed indestructible. Explanation of how Enron worked with the idea of supply and demand (Phoenix) Enron s muddy details In mid 1999, Enron s chief CFO, Andrew Fastow, set up two partnerships ... • 3. Freedom To Invade Research Paper Freedom to Invade Suppose we lived in a world where Barney Phife was the norm; where Little House on the Prairie was the norm or Leave it to Beaver was the adventures of every young man? Many have said if we could just go back to simpler times when right was right and wrong was wrong and no one came uninvited to thrust themselves upon our quiet family time. However, I would need to take my cell phone with me and I most certainly could not do without my pda in order to function as an upstanding and responsible citizen. This is where many people find themselves quandering between the technology of today and the simplicity of the past. With this technology has come the ability for others to enter our homes at perhaps the most inopportune times uninvited to thrust upon us their wares for profit or for charity. The question therein lies as to whether the first amendment guarantees the right for those to come and go as they please into our world or do the citizens of this great nation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With this knowledge, many have renewed their names but a vast majority of Americans are not aware that the 5 year rule exists and they will be rudely awakened when the calling begins this summer. There are some exceptions to the rule and one of these according to Anderson (2008, February) is the exclusion of charities, survey researchers, political campaigns, and any company that you have done business with in the past 18 months (p. 1). The exemption receiving the most conflict is that of charities which many times will use pressure tactics along with emotion to elicit monies that at times will not end up where the consumer anticipates they will. Anderson (2008, February) goes on to say federal regulators rely on consumer complaints to enforce the do not call lists and complaints can be made at the registry web site (p. ... • 6. Origins of the First World War The First World War was an international conflict which erupted in July 1914 involving various nations across the world. Many historians and those who have studied the Great War tend to give varied opinions as to what initially sparked the outbreak. However, although these opinions between researchers differ, they do all tend to revolve around the hostility between the great powers of Europe, the violent assassination of the Austro Hungarian Archduke Franz Ferdinand, and the controversial pieces of German foreign policy known as Weltpolitik and Mitteleuropa, which according to political theorist Hans Debruck (1899), would not only transform Germany into a nation of great economic and military power, but also into a nation that has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This theory appeared to be very inspirational for Germany as they were unfortunately surrounded by other dominant powers. With Social Darwinism in mind, the new German king Wilhelm II sparked serious concern amongst the European powers by establishing two pieces of foreign policy known as Weltpolitik and Mitteleuropa. Weltpolitik, according to Debruck (1899), was a piece of legislation that was established to help the Germans pursue colonial and naval power in the grand manner through either peace or war. The other policy, Mitteleuropa, also caused huge political unrest amongst the great powers as it was viewed as a plan for Europe to be completely dominated by German empires. So from the establishment of these two pieces of legislation, it quickly became unequivocal that Germany was becoming a nation of potential threat. Additionally, the Germans were also accused by the British media of trying to cause a civil war in Ireland by providing both loyalist and nationalist groups with weapons; another example of Germanys uprising power and aggression (Padfield, 2005). So with Germany becoming a particularly aggressive nation, causing the other nations such as Britain to become somewhat solicitous, how were the other great powers such as Russia and Austria developing? • 7. Who Is To Blame In The Cruel God Of Genesis The Cruel God of Genesis This essay will propose and support the thesis that God carries the blame for the expulsion of man from the Garden of Eden and resulting downfall of mankind. Genesis has always been the cause of heated discussions. The work itself is not all that confusing, but rather the symbolism buried deep within the text is. The opinions of the reader often have a substantial influence on the reader s interpretation of the text. Because the scripture has played such an important role in the theological beliefs of so many Christians, extremely different interpretations of the text have the potential to create distance between even the closest of friends and even worse, families. To expect that all of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gave usually implies the transfer of possession from one person to another. In all actuality, God was merely teasing Adam and Eve with the idea of eternal paradise. God knew of the inevitable original sin and even still he gave Adam and Eve a taste of paradise. If indeed God loved them as much as he supposedly did, wouldn t he have saved them the torment of having to surrender a true heaven on earth because they made one little mistake? God knew that by giving man free will he would also be giving them the opportunity to lose everything that they held dear to them. Also, if the will bestowed on Adam were so free, why would he have to be subject to the consequences of his actions? In all actuality, Adam and Eve did have free will; just as long as they didn t think for themselves and only did what God told them to do. In essence, it is very much like getting something for free, but still having to pay the tax. In other words, God dropped the theoretical ball when he came up with his not so free will. The final question that remains is why? Why did God bring to an end his own creations eternal happiness? When given just the information presented in Genesis 1 3, the motives behind God s cruel plot are not quite so obvious. But when consideration is taken for the fact that the entire Bible is, for all logical reasons, God s plan set in plain ordinary words. All things must come to an end, so the saying goes. Even the world as we know it will come to an end. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of those things is a Health Spending Account. This fringe benefit offering can help everyone! Here are some quick facts to spark your interest: FUNDS ARE DEPOSITED PRE TAX. While this is generally considered a win for the employee, it is also a win for the employer, who pays payroll taxes as well. This could be as much as a ten percent savings. The HAS is independent of the insurance plan, so it goes with the employee. If next year finds a better plan with a savings for the parties involved, then pack up and move to that money saver, and be sure to pack that HSA. While your money sits, waiting to be used, it is invested, and any interest is untaxed. This is another incentive for the employees to deposit monies into the funds. • 10. Jackie And Me Character Traits After reading Jackie and Me by Dan Gutman, I have learned that Joe Stoshack is a dynamic character. At the beginning of the book, Joe is misbehaving; eventually, Joe becomes thoughtful, and then very self controlled.. These character traits were observed through Joe s actions, dialogue, relationships, choices, and problems. In the first chapters I have learned that Joe was dishonest and through his action and choices and this tells me this character cannot be trusted. One reason why Joe is dishonest, is that Joe told Mrs. Robinson (Jackie s wife) and other people that he wasn t a time traveler even thought Joe was. Another reason is that when Joe got back from the journey Joe didn t tell his teacher that he went back in time Joe said he found it from the baseball cards and lied when he should have been honest although he didn t want people to know. This work is considered, in itself, an outline of the overall presentation of the great Christological concerns. The author, who seems to be a well acquainted with the exhibition of the Christological themes from classical theology, has devoted many hours to the study of modern philosophy. To all of this, it must be added that Kasper suggests that he approaches the life and work of the Redeemer with the desire to transmit the received tradition I a living way, that is, in conjunction and confrontation with the comments and questions of a particular time. In this way, Kasper seems to understand his work as a contemporary transmission of an inheritance from the past and of responsible commentary on tradition. This transmission and responsible commentary on tradition must be understood in the context of a double judgement made by Kasper around Christianity and the philosophical thought. Kasper suggests that Christianity is in a transitional state. Furthermore, the prevalence of heart failure in patients with DM is between 10% and 22%; this is four times higher than the general population. Controlling blood glucose has been widely accepted as a method to reduce risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular events and new onset heart failure; although this observational relationship exists, no evidence from randomized controlled trials illustrates that improved glycemic control modifies risk. Over time, we come to recognize the society norms as a part of our identity and obtain the understanding of social boundaries that helps us from not being self centered and prevents us from violating the social norms. Due to strong attachments we consider what our family and peers will think about us if we commit any crime or think about doing some unlawful acts. If a person does not have strong attachments to their social institutions then they might feel left out and they will not recognize the importance of social boundaries. The second component of the social bond theory is commitment. It is the rational component of conformity referring to a lifestyle in which one has invested considerable time and energy in the pursuit of a lawful career (Walsh 2015, p.134).Commitment is also another element that prevents us from committing a crime or violate the social norms. A person who has invested their time and energy into conforming to social norms and expectations, such as pursuing educational goals, are less likely to commit crime because of the time and effort they had applied to reach their goals. And people that are heavily invested in their commitments have more to lose compared to someone whose ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. The Intellectual Roots Of Modern Day Environmentalism Many people today do not understand or appreciate the lasting effects that the environmental movement of the 1960s brought to our world. The things that most people immediately associate with the 1960s usually include the Civil Rights movement, Vietnam, the space race, student protests and the hippie generation, underscoring the fact that the environmental movement is often put aside relative these seemingly more iconic symbols of this decade. The 1960s certainly did not mark the first time that efforts were made in the United States to change attitudes, policies, and views regarding the environment. Many trace the intellectual roots of modern day environmentalism all the way back to the 19th century American writers and philosophers Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau, most notably the latter s 1854 work, Walden. President Theodore Roosevelt set aside more public land for national parks than all of his predecessors combined. His policies and views about conservation remained dominate for decades (nps.org). The efforts made by these figures in the mid 1800s through the early part of the 20th century were crucial for paving the way for what would come in later years. The main reason for such progress in the environmental movement in the 1960s is because of influential leaders, the prominent role of media, and a generation of people who were not afraid to initiate change. • 31. How Music Defines You Essay I think music in itself is healing. It s an explosive expression of humanity. It s something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we re from, everyone loves music. This famous quote said by Billy Joel does a good job describing the way music can affect people. Different songs can impact people, change their moods, or bring back memories related to a certain tune. Each person, however, has their own unique taste in music; one song can be loved by one but hated by another, it all depends on our personal taste and what we can relate to. This made me wonder, what does the music I listen to say about myself? Do the lyrics define who I am as a person, or do I simply like songs because of the beat? As I looked at my top ten playlist, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second song I analyzed was Paradise by Coldplay. Similarly to Kids , the song Paradise starts with the idea of childhood. When she was just a girl she expected the world. But it flew away from her reach so she ran away in her sleep and dreamed of paradise is the opening verse for this tune. It talks of a young girl with big dreams expecting the world. As the girl in the song grows up she finds that life is not as simple as she believed. Life goes on, it gets so heavy. The wheel breaks the butterfly. Every tear a waterfall. In the night the stormy night she ll close her eyes. Those lyrics are a good example of how life has some downs, tears, and storms, but it talks of how the girl stays positive when the song says, She d say, I know the sun must set to rise. I think this song is a good reflection of me. I have big dreams for myself, but as life goes on I go through some bumps in the road. I have encountered many of my own stormy nights, but I know the sun will rise to a clearer and brighter day in time. I have learned not to expect things to be handed to me, but to chase after my dreams, and my own perfect paradise to a path of success. My final and favorite song I looked at was the song Pursuit of Happiness by Kid Cudi. Kid Cudi is my favorite artist, so it makes sense that my favorite song is one of his most popular. Themes In Snowpiercer Bong Joon ho s 2013 science fiction film, Snowpiercer, based in a graphic novel of the same name, offers a look into a frozen future where the last of mankind lives on an evermoving locomotive. It s a contemporary film focused around the theme of classism in society, driven by metaphors for where we are and where we are going. With an almost mashup of Orwell meeting the 99%, the story focuses on the inhabitants of the suppressed population of the train s tail section, led by Chris Evans Curtis, revolting against the forward living. The film s narrative in relation to its theme is the focal point of the film and it s main driving force. By using a linear narrative, Joon ho allows the story to move forward as the characters move towards the front of train. With each decision Curtis makes, the blocking of his movements is always in a forward motion. I can t tell if it s the way he meant the character to be portrayed and that s just Evan s natural charismatic nature showing through but it adds a layer to the character that makes his decisions and emotions seem more concrete. I wrote about this bay s environmental issues in the Unit #1 Learning Journal assignment and have decided to use this opportunity to elaborate on two specific environmental issues challenging the SFBay. To summarize this ecosystem: It s the largest bay and estuary on the Pacific coast and has been damaged by industrial activity, starting in 1850 with the Gold Rush and quickly followed by the logging, railroad and salt pond industries. Its biggest threats are pollution, water diversion and filling in. Conservation efforts began in 1965 and today the SFBay is collectively overseen by government and private organizations. Two environmental problems the SFBay faces are mercury contamination and overfishing. The Clean Water Act lists the SFBay as impaired for mercury. Estimates suggest the bay s sediment is contaminated with about two hundred metric tons of mercury, much going back to original Gold Rush. This pollutant has affected SFBay biota resulting in a state issued fish advisory waning not to eat some common fish such as Striped bass and limited intake of other species (OEHHA, 2011; Ely Viani, 2010). Propaganda from both sides was used throughout the Great War to help try and shape the opinions of each embattled nation. This total war did not just require innovative weapons, but also innovative and at times even deceptive propaganda. The British, Germans and United States governments specifically, invested a lot of resources into propaganda as a way to increase recruitment numbers, build international support, and instill a sense of confidence in what was the Great War. Countries had to not just focus their efforts on getting people from their own country to support them, but also neutral countries, as well as having to focus on the enemies by use of atrocity propaganda. In turn, this led to governments tampering with the human will, and even using deceit, all in an effort to help solidify their sides victory. In turn, propaganda played a vital role in the Great War and additionally created an everlasting influence on both war and media in the world today. Unlike previous wars, this war required not just millions of men to serve their own countries, but it required the support of all civilians to help play a role in the war efforts. Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau, two contemporary authors, expressed transcendentalist ideas through their writing. Their perspectives of nature and society were both very similar. They believe people need to simplify their lives, and spend time in nature. To them, nature is the key to peace and tranquillity that people knowingly and unknowingly seek. Herman Melville, another contemporary author of that time, has a very different view of nature. Through Moby Dick, he expresses his ideas that nature is essentially evil. He thinks that it is dangerous, and in order to protect yourself you need to go on the offense against it. Thoreau and Emerson urge people to live a peaceful, simplistic life and they think that spending time in nature, which is essentially good, is the key to doing so, while Melville thinks that nature is a destructive force that people should either avoid or fight. Emerson is one of the first people to introduce the idea of nature being the key to peace. He insists that the natural world is beautiful, and people should spend their time in it. Mrs Helenne Alving And Ghosts Plenty published by David Hare in 1978 and Ghosts published by Henrik Ibsen in 1881, might have almost a gap of hundred years in publication, but they are both plays that attest the intertemporal issue of society s pressure on the woman. In the notes of A Doll s house, in 1878, Ibsen writes A woman cannot be herself in contemporary society, it is an exclusively male society with laws drafted by men, and with counsel and judges who judge feminine conduct from the male point of view. The female protagonist in Ghosts, Mrs Helene Alving, has been influenced by the society s need of forming women that are first, obedient daughters, then, obedient wives, dutiful mothers, but in general, obedient individuals of that society s ideals, conventions and traditions. Even after the war, Susan cannot sustain a fulfilling life since the society s ideals and conventions disharmonize with her own opinions and purpose. The common element between Mrs Alving and Susan is that as women they are expected to fit into a certain role in the real life, directed by the society itself, a life that diminishes their personal fulfilment. Two main types of ensemble methods [9]: Bagging and Boosting techniques [10]. The first one depends on subsampling of the training dataset by replacement sample and generates training subset then ... • 47. A Short Note On The Atlantic Bluefin Tuna Thunnus Thynnus, or the Atlantic Bluefin Tuna, is one of the largest species of tuna, weighing in at over 600 kilograms and four meters in length. It is known for its speed and takes the shape of a torpedo. In its environment, the Atlantic Bluefin Tuna acts as one of the top predators. It preys on smaller fish, such as herring, mackerel and eels. The Atlantic Bluefin Tuna is separated into two main populations, Eastern and Western. Although located in different geographical areas they are not isolated and individuals migrate between the two populations allowing gene flow. The Atlantic Bluefin Tuna s population ranges all through the pelagic zone of the Atlantic. The Western Atlantic population spawns in the Gulf of Mexico, and the Eastern Atlantic population spawns in the Mediterranean Sea. In the fishing industry it is highly coveted for sports fishing, especially in the United States and Canada, and in the sashimi market for high end sushi. As a result of the high demands for the Tuna it is being heavily overfished causing the population to decline dramatically. The low supply and high demand for the Tuna has made them extremely valuable; a single fish in Tokyo s Tsukiji fish market sold for 1.76 million dollar (Bluefin, 2013). This high value of the Atlantic Bluefin Tuna has resulted in illegal pirate fishing causing more harm to the population. If the illegal pirate fishing and overfishing of the Atlantic Bluefin Tuna continues, the species will become extinct resulting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Investigating The Substances Of Water Chromatography Most chemists and many other scientists must routinely separate mixtures and identify their components. The ability to qualitatively identify the substances found in a sample can be critical. For example, an environmental chemist investigating samples of polluted ground water will want to know which toxic ions might be present in a sample. Chromatography is one of the first tools used in such situations. In this technique, many types of mixtures can be separated into the component pure substances; by comparison to a standard sample, each component substance can also be tentatively identified. Many varieties of chromatography exist, each one designed to separate specific types of mixtures. The common feature of each type of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The movement of the components in the mobile phase is controlled by the significance of their interactions with the mobile and/or stationary phases. Because of the differences in factors such as the solubility of certain components in the mobile phase and the strength of their affinities for the stationary phase, some components will move faster than others, thus facilitating the separation of the components within that mixture. The first chromatograph was invented by Russian botanist Mikhail Semenovich Tsvett. Mikhail Tsvet was born 14 May 1872 in Asti, Italy. His mother was Italian, and his father was a Russian official. His mother died soon after his birth, and he was raised in Geneva, Switzerland. He received his B.S. degree from the Department of Physics and Mathematics at the University of Geneva in 1893. However, he decided to dedicate himself to botany and received his Ph.D. degree in 1896 for his work on cell physiology. He moved to Saint Petersburg, Russia, in 1896 because his father was recalled from the Foreign Service. There he started to work at the Biological Laboratory of the Russian Academy of Sciences. His Geneva degrees were not recognized in Russia, and he had to earn Russian degrees. In 1897 he became a teacher of botany courses for women. In 1902 he became a laboratory assistant at the Institute of Plant Physiology of the Warsaw University in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Persuasive Essay On Internet Privacy Consumers of the Internet continually yearn for the time where there Internet privacy will be taken into consideration. Sadly, that day may never come. The Internet has become a very lucrative world with many players involved. Now that there are criminals who break into websites and steal information for personal gain, there s a huge incentive to protect consumers at all costs. Meaning there s a need to increase Internet monitoring to ensure the protection of consumers, which violates the privacy of everyone who uses the Internet. For all the consumers of the Internet, Internet privacy should be entitled to everyone. It s virtually impossible to grant Internet privacy, when you have entities stealing and using critical and personal information. Everybody blames advertising when it comes to personal information on the Internet. That s only the tip of the iceberg. The Internet has become a very vulnerable place for hackers or people who stolen information for personal gain. According to NBC news, there was a 20 year old woman, Amy Boyer who was stalked with the help of the Internet. The hacker/killer bought Boyer s social security for $45 from a website. Boyer was murdered on Oct.15, 1999. The killer immediately committed suicide after the murder of Amy Boyer. Because of incidents like this, it s so hard to grant total privacy. Sadly, privacy concerns don t only arise from criminal activity. Ian Oxman, a well known spam fighter and privacy advocate decided to trace a car back to its previous owner. Oxman was surprised at how easy it is to track the former owner. Upon calling up the previous owner, he response is You don t know who I am but I m driving the car you sold. At the very end she says, How did you find me? Internet users are saying, How did you find me? more than they are comfortable with. The real question is, are consumer s privacy not taken seriously? It s agreed that monitoring the Internet is great for protecting valuable information, but one should not be able to track someone as easily as Oxman did. Most websites will track generic information. Websites leave cookies on your computer so that other companies could use the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Societal Values Of The Puritans The Puritans have been portrayed to be a society which lives based on values, and very strict interpretations of those values. Societal values revolve around the Puritan religion, with the main idea being that God had made a covenant with their people to live according to the Scripture and to set an example for other societies to follow. With God s covenant in mind, the Puritans lived a very straightforward, yet tense life. Through Puritan literature, it is clear the lives of the Puritans were based around the covenant between God and the society, with any mistakes leading to punishment and fear within the people causing the inevitable demise of Puritan society. The Puritans lived a life in which there was a very fine line between what was agreeing with God s covenant, and what was going against the agreement. Much of the actions taken by the Puritans was not to help themselves, but rather to please God. In their voyage to Cape Cod, the Puritans were faced with many challenges, yet they never backed down, because it was God s will they succeed, So they committed themselves to the will of God and resolved to proceed, (Bradford , Of Plymouth Plantation (26)). Because the Puritan s believed God s strong assertion for their society to succeed and to follow through on the covenant, they kept sailing until the ship landed at Cape Cod. Moreover, the passengers and sailors on the ship were faced with fear that if they failed to reach the New World, it would be a failure on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
