The Psychological Complexities Of The Kite By W. Somerset...
The demand that this question has put before me is to analyze psychological complexities of Herbert,
protagonist of the story The Kite written by W. Somerset Maugham. In order to focus on this element,
my argument will dilate upon events and factors that shaped what Lacan had called I ness . This story
revolves around a family consisting of husband, wife and a son Herbert. Mrs. Sunbury, Herbert s
mother, had always controlled her son and when he fell in love with Betty, she played very thriftily to
take her son back. In return Betty destroyed the dearest thing of Herbert, his kite. The title of the story
is not merely based on an object that is used for entertainment rather symbolizes Herbert. According to
Lacan psychoanalysis when child

The right to consult a lawyer when being questioned by the police is a very important right as it could
potentially save an individual from being convicted for whatever he or she has been accused of. This
case was centered on Danny Escobedo who was taken into custody by the Chicago police department
on January 20th, 1964, for the shooting of his brother in law. During Escobedo?s interrogation he
continuously asked to consult with his lawyer. The authorities in charge of Escobedos interrogation
refused to provide a lawyer for Escobedo, which ultimately ended up with him confessing to the
murder of his brother in law. Being forced into confessing to the murder of his brother in law drove
Escobedo to take his case to the supreme court under the premise that his sixth amendment right of

Unlawful Immigration Has Been A Generally Examined Topic
Unlawful immigration has been a generally examined topic in legislative issues in the US. Some argue
that immigrants are important as they take the employments Americans don t wish to take, and that
they later ought to be offered authorization to remain in the nation. Others nonetheless, are of the
sentiment that they ought to be extremely punished seeing as what they are doing is illicit, arguing that
the illegal workers are taking endlessly occupations from Americans and not paying their duties. In
spite of the fact that there are arguments supporting the claim that undocumented immigrants ought to
be punished, there are numerous counterarguments for why they ought to be permitted to remain.
Illegal migration movement has achieved such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Illicit immigrants originate from another nation, so financial issues can emerge when there are excess
measures of emigration. Such a pattern can destabilize outside nations and diminish the ability of U.S.
firms to fare products to those countries. In 2010, the normal unlawful immigrant family unit receives
around $24,721 in government advantages and administrations while paying some $10,334 in taxes.
This produced a normal yearly financial shortage (benefits got less expenses paid) of around $14,387
per family unit. This cost must be borne by U.S. citizens. Under current law, all illegal immigrant
family units together have a total yearly shortfall of around $54.5 billion.
In addition, at the government level, around 33% of costs are coordinated by tax accumulations from
illegal immigrants. At the state and neighborhood level, a normal of under 5 percent of general society
costs related with illicit immigration is recovered through taxes gathered from displaced aliens. Most
illegal immigrants don t pay wage taxes. Among the individuals who do, a significant part of the
incomes gathered are discounted to the displaced people when they record government forms. With
many state spending plans in deficiency, policymakers have a commitment to search for approaches to
decrease the monetary weight of illicit migration. California, confronting a spending deficiency of
$14.4 billion in 2010 2011, is hit

Essay on California Space Heaters
California Space Heaters, Inc.
November 30, 2010
There is a fine line between how much safety a corporation should provide to the consumer regarding
its products vs. how much responsibility of safety should fall on the average consumer. Take, for
instance, the all too familiar McDonald s coffee episode. Does McDonald s have a responsibility to its
customers to ensure the coffee isn t hot enough to scald if spilled upon one s lap? Or should the
customer be held responsible for their own safety in regards to common sense judgment? This is what
California Space Heaters, Inc. (CSH) must consider when deciding exactly which products to launch.
Kerosene heaters are often times used in shops and garages as well as inside homes. They ... Show

A corporation that has been given such estimates from its engineering department has a responsibility
to implement a safety device. Electric start is the single most important option that should be
incorporated on all models for safety reasons. The profile of users in a shop or garage setting differs
greatly from users in a home. Users in a shop or garage are more likely to be mechanically inclined.
Additionally, safety features are arguably more important in a home than in a shop or garage. In a
home, the heater is typically closer to combustibles, including furniture, curtains, and carpet. Due to
these variables, CSH should market an indoor/outdoor heater and an outdoor only heater. The only
necessary option on the outdoor heater is the electric start, as previously discussed. A shop or garage
user will likely be more mechanically inclined and able to adjust the wick accurately. A thermostat
shouldn t be needed because the unit will less likely be near combustibles. Overheating due to flare
ups will not be as big of an issue either because of the surroundings, not to mention the user is more
likely to notice flare ups because the unit will only be operating when he or she is in the garage or
shop, in most cases. A removable tank would also not be necessary since fill up is easier outdoors.
On the other hand, the indoor/outdoor heater should have three options incorporated on the base
model. The first is the electric start option, as mentioned

What Was The Truman Doctrine Essay
Right from the start of the Cold War, after the Second World War (1939 1945), the European continent
was split up once more and two ideologies were considered to dominate most countries. The Truman
doctrine, established in 1947 by the President of the United States of America forged the Western bloc
and put forward capitalism as a strong political ideology . Following this doctrine was the initiation of
the Marshall plan, a financial and military help, which goal was to reduce The Soviet Union s
influence on eastern countries. The leading force of the Eastern bloc, the Union of Soviet Socialist
Republics (U.S.S.R.) answered to the United States doctrine with the Zhdanov doctrine which divided
the world between the imperialists , the United States and the socialists , the Soviet Union.
Communism was the ideology in the U.S.S.R. and its allied countries. Defeated after the end of the
Second World War, Germany was split in four occupation zones as it was discussed at the Potsdam
Conference (July August 1945). The three zones belonging to the western countries (French zone,
British zone and American zone) were unified and thus opposed to the soviet zone. Berlin, a strategic
city within the eastern part of Germany, was itself divided and thus West Berlin became an enclave. In

Analysis Of Titus Andronicus By William Shakespeare
In William Shakespeare s play, Titus Andronicus, the main character Titus Andronicus is a perfect
example of the never ending cycle of vengeance. Throughout the play, Titus and Tamora seek
resolution and closure through revenge. Throughout the play, these characters do not realize the
resolution to their war over vengeance is making peace. When one person chooses to get back at the
other this creates a never ending loop of revenge or topping one another s conflict. The key to success
in this situation would be for one to make peace, and in this play you will discover how these
characters brought closure to their cycle of never ending vengeance. In the play, the audience is shown
how vengeance controls one s perspective. In other words, vengeance can impact and skew ones view
on life and negatively impair one s decisions. The audience understands from the beginning of the
play how Tamora s positive and sympathetic character is very evident; although, in Act II, her mind
and actions has been dramatically skewed and twisted. Tamora s attitude has been overcome by
vengeance as she says, But straight they told me they would bind me here Unto the body of a dismal
yew, And leave me to this miserable death: And then they call d me foul adulteress, Lascivious Goth,
and all the bitterest terms That ever ear did hear to such effect: And, had you not by wondrous fortune
come, This vengeance on me had they executed. Revenge it, as you love your life, Or be ye not

From this lab experiment, I can conclude that the red cabbage solution is an effective indicator for the
acidic, basic and neutral chemical compounds. I learned that the universal indicator is also a good
solution for the three types of compounds. The colours are different depending on what substance you
are testing. The colours that we discovered in the pH scale are pink, red or orange. As for bases the
colour was either light or dark green sometimes yellow. The colours for neutral, were violet or
purple. In real life we are exposed to acids and bases everyday. For example, citric acid is in lots of
citrus foods such as lemons, oranges and grapefruits. It is also added to foods for flavouring, non
perishable, and cleaning supply. Citric acid creates a taste that is sweet and sour. ... Show more content

Sulphuric acid is extremely harmful if you are directly exposed to it. However it is very useful in real
life. For example, in car batteries, used in plant fertilizers. On the contrary, It is very dangerous to the

LWEC Rating Essay
Using the example above, after receiving the LWEC rating from OWCP this individual receives 20%
raise, which equals $317.00 per month. FECA regulations provide that an increase of income reach a
25% threshold in order to adjust a LWCE rating. In light of the LWEC rating, this individual earns
significantly more than their peers. For this example, we will presume this Letter Carrier is age 40,

Analysis Of The Hunger Of Memory By Richard Rodriguez
The Hunger of Memory was written as an autobiography by Richard Rodriguez, and with any success
story, there is much more than what meets the eye. Throughout the first section of this chapter,
Rodriguez discusses his early education and home life while introducing Hoggart s idea of the
Scholarship Boy. Growing up surrounded by his parents and siblings, Rodriguez was always the odd
one out; often times, he would be found locked in his closet or under his bed reading. His parents,
living vicariously through him, did everything they could to encourage him and his studies, yet
Rodriguez continued to grow resentful and embarrassed of them. By enrolling him into excellent
schools, both public and private, Rodriguez could perfect his grammar while continuing to indulge in
his reading and writing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

teenage years, peeking when Rodriguez received acceptance and scholarships to attend Stanford
College. It was at this time that his parents finally expressed their frustrations as well, suggesting that
local colleges aren t good enough for Rodriguez. He notes that, Rodriguez s] departure would only
make physically apparent the separation that had occurred long before, which suggests that although
the separation was apparent to him earlier, he chose not to do anything about it. At this point, family

Alienation In The Martian Chronicles
The feeling of alienation is one that no humans want to experience. In Ray Bradbury s The Martian
Chronicles, Bradbury allows the reader to grasp a greater understanding of what alienation is like by
bringing the story to a world of actual aliens. By doing so, Bradbury sets a wall between the
extraterrestrial setting of the book and humanity s reality on earth. He also creates a sense of
separation by never allowing the story s characters to live too far throughout the book. This tactic
keeps the reader from gaining a connection between the characters. The state of being alienated is
defined as being withdrawn. The way Bradbury writes this book allows the reader to not only read
about alienation, but to truly understand it too. Bradbury begins ... Show more content on

In today s society, the divorce rate is about 50%. The loss of love in a relationship is shown in The
Martian Chronicles. The characters Mr. and Mrs. K struggle to keep their relationship alive. They
barely talk and it rare for them to go out into town. When Mr. K finally does request that him and his
wife go into town with their odd, birdlike pets, Mrs. K finds that she doesn t want too. Love has to be
tended to throughout a relationship, not just in minimal moments. This is something that is true from
Earth to Mars. Love is a main topic in this book. There are examples of a loveless marriage, loss of a
love one, wanting to meet new love, and the pain of losing a loved one. Love is an emotion that all
humans can sympathize with, whether is be because of a partner or family member (Anna Minore).
When lines like I thought: Well, here I am, the only lady on Mars, and here is the only man, and,
well... (Bradbury 148) are said, the yearning for love is prominent even among characters from
another planet. Bradbury shows that there are some traits that carry through no matter the type of life
form. Animals feel love, humans feel love, so why should martians not experience the same emotion?
Similarities aside, though the need to alienate still shines

Coverage Driven Vip For Avalon Memory Mapped Interface...
COVERAGE DRIVEN VIP FOR AVALON MEMORY MAPPED INTERFACE USING UVM
Abstract:
The verification phase carries an important role in design cycle of a System on Chip (SoC). A
verification environment may be prepared using SystemVerilog without using any particular
methodology but that will be different for every variation of the design. The UVM testbench increases
robustness of functional verification, and allows you to create flexible, adaptable, scalable
testbenches. It offers quantifiable, measurable progress, and changing test sequences can be used to
easily increase code coverage. This project describes the use of coverage driven verification for
Avalon Memory Mapped Interface VIP using UVM methodology. The Avalon bus is a simple bus
architecture which makes the connection between on chip processors and peripherals together into a
SOPC. It is an interface that specifies the port connections between master and slave components, and
also specifies the timing by which these components communicate. Avalon Memory Mapped (Avalon
MM) interfaces can be used to implement read and write interfaces for master and slave components.
In this work all components of testbench has been created to make a VIP. The coverage collected on
mm_cvgrp is 91.6%. The environment used random stimulus which helps in regression to create
different scenarios.

Should Ionizing Radiation Be Used In Medical Diagnosis
INTRODUCTION
Radiation procedures used to diagnose medical conditions over the past century have grown from a
scientific curiosity to a pervasive, essential part of modern health care. Radiology originated with
ionizing radiation to diagnose human disease, however since discovering the physiological risks
associated with ionizing radiation, such as mutation/cancer, an ongoing controversy arises as to
whether ionizing radiation should be used in medical diagnosis. This investigation will analyze each
end of the argument continuum to determine if ionizing radiation should continue to be used in
medical diagnosis.
BACKGROUND PHYSICS
Ionizing radiation is any type of particle (neutrons, betas or alphas) or electromagnetic wave (gamma
rays, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are different types of ionizing radiation, including gamma rays and x rays, which have been
known to cause cancer. Additionally, because x rays can kill living cells, when improperly used they
can cause severe burns, cancer, leukemia, and cataracts. They can speed aging, reduce immunity to
disease, and bring about disastrous changes in the reproductive cells.
Having few procedures employing ionizing radiation throughout your life may seem harmless, but as
the levels of doses increase, your risk of developing cancer rises at the same rate, according to the
LNT model. Figure 4 below exhibits potential medical consequences of certain periods of exposure to
ionizing radiation:
CONCLUSION
Given the evidence, it can be concluded that while there are risks that arise with ionizing radiation in
medical diagnosis, overall the benefits outweigh the risks, as doctors are able to diagnose various
health concerns that would go undetected otherwise. That being said, ionizing radiation should
continue to be used in medical diagnosis as they provide valuable medical procedures that can
ultimately save

Hostage Negotiation Is An Important Part Of The Criminal...
Hostage negotiation is an important part of the criminal justice system, and is a tactic that is practiced
by most branches of criminal justice. Almost every law enforcement agency in the United States has
established either a hostage recovery team or has a crisis negotiator on staff (McClain, Callaghan,
Madrigal, Unwin, Castoreno, 2006). The point of hostage negotiation is for criminal justice
professionals to reason with alleged perpetrators in hostage or barricade situations. There are five
possible ways to resolve a hostage or barricade situation: SWAT team tactical assault and
apprehension of the perpetrator, perpetrator killed, perpetrator suicide or escape, or negotiated
surrender (Hatcher, Mohandie, Turner, Gelles, 1998). While forcible actions are associated the most to
law enforcement agencies, hostage negotiation is considered one of the most explicitly psychological
law enforcement discipline, and it also provides the most desirable outcome to a hostage situation
(Soskis Zandt, 1986). More than 75% of hostage or barricade situations are successfully resolved
through a negotiated surrender, and fewer than 10% of hostage or barricade cases result in loss of the
perpetrators life (Hatcher, Mohandie, Turner, Gelles, 1998). Before the 1970 s, law enforcement
agencies used a force only approach to hostage situations, in which SWAT or tactical law enforcement
teams would storm in and use force (often deadly force) to neutralize a hostage situation. This

My Italian Culture
I am an Italian American, two very distinct cultures that have shaped me throughout my entire life. My
father is a full blooded Italian and my mother is American. They met when my mother moved to Italy
for business and about 13 years later I was born and 2 years after me, my brother. We all moved to
California in 2001, when I was almost 4 years old, because my mother is from California.
Since my mother had lived in Italy for 16 years and had mostly assimilated, I can say that my life at
home to this day has been pretty much Italian. My mom cooks Italian meals every night and my
parents talk in Italian and my father exclusively watches Italian TV and for the most part listens to
only Italian music. My life outside of my home has been very much American. I assimilated to the
American culture pretty quickly. I obviously spoke english outside of my house and made many
American friends from whom I picked up a lot. Every year I could feel that I was losing my Italian
culture. I could especially feel it during my trips to Italy. When I travel to Italy, I feel my whole world
changing pretty much overnight. Everything is different; the environment, the people, the sounds, the
smells, and the feel of everything. Because of the vast differences I feel when I travel to Italy, it
augments my feeling that I ve lost a big part of me.

Women In Advertising
Jean Kilbourne (2010) in the video Killing Us Softly 4: Advertising s image of women pointed out
that people always assume the women in advertisements have the perfect look and a good figure.
Many women even feel ashamed when they failed to achieve ideal beauty and retain slim figure after
they saw the advertisements. I agree with her idea that the advertisement depict women in a very
dangerous way. Many people started to judge women by perfect look and slim figure. These kinds of
advertisements may do harm to women s health mentally and physically, especially to teenagers, when
they are trying to achieve perfect appearance as perfect women depicted in advertisements.
Everyone cares about how he or she look and wants to have a good figure. Today, a good appearance
can even leave a good impression to other people. However, nobody is perfect. I think nobody has a
perfect face and retain flawless forever. The perfect women in advertisements and magazines have
good make up that make them look flawless and slim. Some pictures were photoshoped to show the

Did the revitalization of Sundance Square influence and creation of Bass Hall benefit the popularity of
art in Fort Worth?
April 9th, 2015
Abstract As there is not a whole lot known about the revitalization of Fort Worth Texas, so it is
important to draw attention to the transformation of the city hiding in Texas from the beginning of
Revitalization in 1979 to the end of it in 2011. Fort Worth was in economic disorder after WWII and it
was seen through the crumbling state of the city... people moved from cities into suburbs and these
people began shopping at strip malls rather than downtown centers. (Bernard,1). This severely
affected Fort Worth s economy but this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To make Fort Worth a major center in the metropolis as it was before, and not just a part of it as the
city had become, the Bass Brothers Enterprise decided to make the Bass Hall out to be the centerpiece
of the Sundance Square by making it the best architecturally and aesthetically, as well as acoustically.
Bass Hall is currently the permanent home of the Texas Ballet Theater, Fort Worth Symphony
Orchestra, Fort Worth Opera, and the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and Cliburn
Concerts(Bradley Hasse, 6). Before Revitalization the thought of such programs was ridiculously
impossible, especially for them to be based out of Fort Worth. The Bass Brother s contribution of the
Nancy Lee and Perry R. Bass Performance Hall, as the crown jewel of Sundance square to many
artists and musicians all over the world due to its global recognition for being one of the top ten best
opera houses in the world (Fort Worth Architecture, 1) further allotted for attention to be drawn into
the city further than it already was, due to the completed Revitalization process. As stated, the building
was originally rejected by the city as a tax funded project (as taxpayers felt their money was better
used elsewhere), so the millionaires were so adamant about creating the famous hall at the time that

Positive Aspects In Great Expectationations By...
A fool thinks himself to be wise, but a wise man knows himself to be a fool, is a quote proclaimed by
William Shakespeare. I compare the quote to the main character of Pip, notably because of, who Pip is
and who he becomes. Within the story of Dickens Great Expectations, Pip has come across influences
both negative and positive in some situations or from people. These influences called upon Pip would
later change who would he would become later in the story. Experiences faced by Pip are influential to
who he would later become when his adulthood Throughout the story, Pip has had positive influences
involving Joe, however, Pip has been present in negative influences including Joe. After arrival back
from Miss Havisham s estate, Pip tells lies to Mrs. Joe and Mr. Pumblechook to make the visit more
excitable. Pip later leans Mr. Joe for comfort and recognition for these lies, in which Joe replies
saying, Don t you tell no more of em Pip. That ain t the way to get out of being common, old chap.
Which in return of telling the truth, Pip is set to a motive for his future to not bring about his lies.
(page 59). While Pip was growing, Mr. Joe revealed that he would take the abuse from his wife Mrs.
Joe so Pip would not have to bare it all. He later tells Pip that he had also had a troubled past that
contained abuse as well. In all parts where Pip had done right or wrong by Mr. Joe or somebody other

Is Sexual Selection Within Male Pharomachrus Mocinno...
Title: Is Sexual Selection In Male Pharomachrus mocinno favoured by Longer Plume Tail Length due
to Increase in Colour?
Introduction:
The Pharomachrus mocinno has evolved many behavioural and physical traits as a result of adaptation
to the current environment and lifestyle it leads, however this proposal will focus on the unusual
plume tail length of the male P. mocinno. This particular species habitat requires nests as high as 22
meters in rotting trees (Seigfried et al. 2010). Therefore, the function of the feathers would typically
be assumed to enhance flight, as that would make sense as a useful function in this scenario due to the
high elevation. Surprisingly, however, the long length of the plume tail actually decreases the speed of
the male bird due to the drag force of air (Norberg 1995) and requires it to drop backward off the
branches before being able to fly forward normally (LaBastille et al. 1972). With such issues with the
long plume tails, would sexual selection really be in this traits favour? In a study done on the
widowbird such was the case; males with longer plumes were mated the most (Andersson 1982).
However, the widowbird is completely black (including its tail), while in the case of Pharomachrus
mocinno it is a very colourful bird. Previous studies also have shown, that the bright reflective colours
on the male s bodies help in attracting females (LaBastille et al. 1972).
Therefore, it s possible that the long length of the P. mocinno male s

The United States Legislative Branch Of Government
The United States legislative branch of government is best described as bicameral meaning of two
houses where two governing bodies separately but functionally unitedly oversee the law making duties
of the country. The two houses of the legislative branch are the Senate and the House of
Representatives which both have distinct but crucial duties regarding key decisions affecting
anywhere from individual districts to the United States as a collective entity. Members of the House of
Representatives and the Senate (altogether called Congress ) belong to one of the two main American
political parties; republicans or democrats. While a third party does exist they are substantially
irrelevant in the current governing system. The third, independent, party does not achieve the
popularity to be a representative heuristic of the people of America. By nature a democracy should
reflect upon the needs and wants of the citizens of that democracy therefore bureaucrats in the House
of Representatives and the Senate are appointed their seats in congress through direct election. The
House of Representatives serves as a representation of the population of a single district; a district
being an area of a state divided evenly among other districts in the state based on population results
from the U.S. Census. Districts can be reapportioned every ten years depending on the current
population in a certain geographical area in a state. In a simplified form, larger states are given more

an array of students dealing with anxiety, depression, stress, and substance use and abuse. In addition,
to working with this population across different college campuses, he also works with couples in
private practice. I conducted a 15 minute interview in which we had the opportunity to explore the
pros and cons about working with this specific population more in particular, in regards to alcohol use
and abuse.
1. What made you want to become a Marriage and Family Therapist? It was something I always

How long have you been working with the college age population or in college settings? I ve been
working with college students for a few years now. It all began at a training site before getting

doing it since then.
4. What is one of the main challenges when working with this population? Most of the people that
come in for help are very overwhelmed. This makes them flaky, they are late, and/or they miss a lot of
appointments. They also come up with excuses, not sure if this is logistical or if they get frightened in
session. I m not really sure what the answer to that is. This seems to be a common pattern across the
board.
5. What are some things you find rewarding when working with this population? For many of them,
they have never been in therapy before; it is like a whole new world for them. A lot of these people
have never asked for support. Just looking at them and seeing the hope that they have, when someone

Why Is Princess Diana Considered A Game Changer
What makes a person a game changer? A person is a game changer because of the way they believe in
a better world and try their best to help that world emerge. They want to make a change, they inspire
hope, show compassion, even if it is indirect, and they are loved. They would rather make a difference
than be in power. That is why Princess Diana is considered a game changer, she even says: I d like to
be a queen of people s hearts but I don t see myself being queen of this country. Princess Diana is also
considered a game changer because she changed the way that people viewed the Royal Family;

She raised her sons to love and inspire people. She showed them the motherly love that she herself had
not received and anyone in the Royal family has ever been shown. The author recounts, Diana kissed
them and hugged them hard. Motherly love could hardly be clearer. Contrast that scene with a similar
situation a generation earlier. When Diana s mother in law, the Queen, returned from foreign travel she
would greet a young Charles with a handshake. (Owen 77) Diana loved her kids more than anything in
the world, even if her relationship with their father did not work out. She knew she wanted to play a
major role in how the young princes grew up, and she most definitely did. Both of Diana s little
princes show the contradictory sides of their mother s personality. (Owen 76) Harry is a charmer, like
his mother, while William is sensitive and finds it challenging to deal with the media attention. Both
sides of their mother that each boy shows will be helpful to them in the future with their different
responsibilities. It also helps them because they both got compassion and a strong instinct from their
mother as well. William and Harry were truly the cornerstone of her life. So much so, it was wanting
to be near them that kept her in Britain, when other parts of the world without such intrusive media
and tougher privacy laws, often seemed more appealing to her. (Owen 77)

childhood. Unlike Jutras study of NHIMA band musicians who practiced 3.75 hours per week,
Coffman s (2008) NHIMA band members practiced 7 hours per week. The SF 36v2 Health Survey
revealed that participants reported NHIMA benefited them by 74% overall well being, 24% physical
well being, 21% cognitive stimulation, and 20% socialization (see Table 2.2). The differences between
Jutras (2011) NHIMA study and Coffman s (2008) NHIMA study are motivation to learn music, and
practicing instruments daily in preparation of rehearsals, which is standard practice for preparation of
community concerts. Perhaps Coffman s (2008) musicians were more serious in developing their
music competency skills and thereby achieved higher levels of brain activity. Whereas, Jutras (2011)
musicians would fit the definition of health care patients or as Gates (1991) described them as
recreationalists or as Stebbins (1992) described individuals as amateurs, volunteers, hobbyists, and
dabblers. As the authors identified, participants lacked the motivation to play their instruments at
home in preparation for band rehearsals, which are preparatory for music concerts. The results in these
studies suggest the activity and continuity theories to explain older adults

The Corporal Punishment Of Children
Corporal Punishment of Children
Thesis: Although using the corporal punishment method in schools is intended to change the behavior
of the student, teachers should not be allowed to use this method to punish students because it s not
effective for the child s behavioral change, and it affects the child s behavior mentally and physically.
I.Hurts the child physically and abuses the child right
II. Destructive rather than constructive
A. Many people believe that corporal punishment is a method of encouraging students for better
academic performance with no cost.
B. Ineffective for the child s long term behavioral change
III. It affects the child s behavior psychologically
A. Makes the student violent
B. It lowers the child s self esteem
Corporal Punishment of Children
When I was in middle school at St. Mary s Catholic School, in Ethiopia, I used to see our teachers
using different techniques to punish my classmates. I remember an incident in middle school where a
friend of mine was punished in a harmful way because he failed to answer a question. Although the
use of corporal punishment in schools is intended to change the behavior of the student, teachers
should not be allowed to use this method to punish their students because it hurts the student
physically and abuses the child right, it is not effective for the child s behavioral change, and it affects
the student s behavior psychologically.

Kaku is very optimistic with the Class I impossibilities because we have technology that can make
these impossibilities possible in near future. Let s take an example regarding the psychokinesis
section. Kaku mentioned about the possibility of Radio enhanced or computer enhanced
psychokinesis. Similarly, Kaku mentioned that we are already able to develop a technology to implant
computer chips into the brain cells and we will be able to control the computer (Physics of the

possible, and some of them are even possible in this century. Let s consider the Robots, they already
exist in the real world. Kaku talks about creating a force field, and this makes sense in practical life as

Responsibilities Of HACCPAnd The Food Safety Management...
Responsibilities
You must put in place and implement a food safety management system to ensure the food you
provide is safe to eat. Think about what might go wrong with the food that you sell and what you must
do to ensure it is safe for your customers. Procedures must be in place to manage food safety hazards
in your workplace. Everything must be written down, updated when necessary and kept so that they
can be checked by the local authority.
These procedures must be based on the principles of HACCP.

What is HACCP?
HACCP is a system that identifies where hazards may arise in the food production process, by putting
procedures into place to prevent the hazards from occurring.
HACCP systems must be based on the seven principles.
Conduct a hazard analysis
Identify critical control points
Establish critical limits
Establish monitoring
Establish corrective actions
Establish verification
Establish documentation and records

A hazard is anything that can cause harm to your customers and can happen at any stage in your
business, from taking deliveries to serving customers.
There are three types of hazards.

We Already Know That Self Discipline Is Important, But
We already know that self discipline is important, but do we really need it?
We know about success tools, and we familiarize ourselves with many useful resources that lead us to
success, so why do we need self discipline?
We all have goals for many areas of our lives. Some of us want successful relationships, some like to
get more money, others want simply happiness in their lives and others seek better health with less
weight. These are common goals, and we sometimes fail or succeed in achieving them. The general
question is: Why we don t achieve those goals? Why we don t become successful in these goals?
The general answer is: Lack of self discipline.
Success needs time. It does not happen at once. What you do today will determine ... Show more

The two can not be achieved in the same time, in most cases.
Our lives are full of temptations: we have TVs, good food, chocolates, video games... etc. These
temptations makes it harder for us to resist having more fun and thus we neglect the more important
goals in our lives. Almost all of us want to have a slim figure, but with these temptations around us
almost all of the time, we lose that goal of a slim figure. Almost all of us want to make more money,
but it is not easy to resist, for example, discounted travel packages. In these cases, we really need self
discipline. It will allow us to focus on our goals and pursue them until we reach success. With self
discipline, we can exercise better control on our instant wishes.
It is the difference between what you feel and what you think.
It is the borderline between your heart and your brain.
You may want to eat that pizza which was shown on a TV commercial, but your self discipline stops
you because you have a goal of weight control, and in this process it allows you to succeed in that
goal.
It is an amazing resource for success. Actually, many experts believe that it is impossible to reach
success without it. According to Lou Holtz Without self discipline, success is impossible, period.
Research shows that entrepreneurs must have it in order to succeed in business. According Jerry

Mel Gibson s Tragic Depiction In The Passion Of The Christ
There s something fundamentally wrong with this world. Judeo Christians blame sin and man s sinful
nature. Because of man s imperfection, we get death, deceit, and destruction. Everyone would agree
the effects are monstrous, and deliverance from the world s depravity seems to be everyone s pursuit,
yet we all fail at achieving it. Which is why Jesus Christ came to die for our sins, because the wages of
sin is death; to be a vicarious sacrifice, the death of Christ had to be and was a gruesome event. But,
how gruesome? And is the film The Passion of the Christ a sagacious depiction? Film critics have
charged Mel Gibson, the director of The Passion of The Christ, for being unnecessarily morbid
depicting the crucifixion and left out the achievement that Christ s offering brought to mankind.
Others defend Gibson s portrayal; by arguing one must understand his Catholic background so as to
shed light on his macabre depiction. Steven Greydanus, from the National Catholic Register, is a
defender of Gibson s work. In his article Understanding the Catholic Meaning of The Passion of the
Christ, he ultimately argues that interpreting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

rhetorical structure, A.O. Scott uses the motif of Christ s sacrifice of love for humanity and Gibson s
depiction of the event as the perversion of the events that transpired. A viewer, particularly one who
accepts the theological import of the story, is thus caught in a sadomasochistic paradox (Ibid). Gibson
s desire to make a realistic film about the passion is taken to account, but the style and tone of The
Passion are far from what is ordinarily meant by realism, causing the film to have the feel of a horror

What Is The Importance Of Memory In Our Lives
The Importance of Memory in Our Lives Memory is a process that involves retention, retrieval, and
using the information that is taken in by the senses and stored. Memory can be compared to a time
machine that allows you to go back into any moment in time. Memory can also be used by students to
remember material for exams, their daily schedule, names, phone numbers, and directions to places.
There are other things that students are not aware we use memory for such things are having
conversations because memory is needed to track how the conversation is flowing as well as finding a
class because it is necessary to remember the spatial layout of campus. Studying Memory Richard
Atkinson and Richard Shiffrin (1968) proposed a model called the modal model of memory and was
sort of a compilation of many features of models that were being proposed at that time. The model has
structural features which are three stages. The first state is sensory memory which is where all
information that is being taken in is held for a couple of seconds. The second stage is the short term
memory which can hold 5 to 7 items for 15 to 30 seconds. The last stage is long term memory can
hold a large amount of information that can be stored for years or decades. This memory system is
described as a control process because it is active and is controlled by the individual and differs from
person to person. Control process includes rehearsal which is the repetition of a stimulus in order to

Causes And Consequences Of Untreated Mental Illness
In a given year, one out of every four American adults will suffer from a mental illness. Therefore, it
would be logical to hypothesize that you or someone you love may be affected by mental illness at
some point in your or his or her lifetime. A meta synthesis of 144 quantitative and qualitative studies
consisting of 90,189 participants highlighted that 52% 74% of Americans and Europeans with mental
disorders do not receive treatment. This is problematic for many reasons, as untreated mental illness
has devastating and even deadly consequences. A 2014 study conducted by the RAND Cooperation
found that approximately 90% of subjects with mental disordered reported being stigmatized and

Development Stages of a Child
According to Freud, the child develops socially through a series of psychosexual stages e.g. oral, anal,
phallic, latency and genital. The first three psychosexual stages are focused on more as they span the
important first five years in which the id, ego and superego develop. Fixation, when libido (sexual
pleasure drive) is locked into a stage, determines personality and is caused by either frustration or
overindulgence. If a child is fixated in the oral stage for example, as a result of frustration, the adult
will be characterised as envious, pessimistic and sarcastic. Freud believed normal development occurs
when a child does not fixate on a stage. According to Erikson, the child develops socially as they pass
through eight developmental stages, referred to as psychosocial stages, which are each characterised
by a psychological crisis. The psychological crisis must be resolved in each stage before the child can
move on to the next. Each stage also has two possible outcomes e.g. negative or positive and it is
successfully completing each stage that results in a healthy personality and sense of self. Failing to
complete a stage means the ability to complete further stages is reduced and personality and sense of
self can become negative and unhealthy. According to Kohlberg, children develop socially by
developing a sense of right, wrong and justice. There are six stages of moral development which are
divided into 3 categories e.g. premoral and preconventional stages,

David Hume Virtues
As such, we understand the use justice, but also other virtues are only as important so long as they are
useful and agreeable not to the business of an individual but also to public utility. Where this view on
the utility of vices and virtues, both aspects of public and private morality are determined by
sentiment. It defines virtue to be whatever mental action or quality gives to a spectator the pleasing
sentiment of approbation; and vice the contrary. This definition is in close relation to the question
posited at the end of the previous section on the approval of the happiness of mankind and the
resentment of is misery. It can be said that the said approval or disapproval, the gut feeling translates

Our approval of those traits arises from sympathy with people in the individual s narrow circle of
friends and associates, since, given natural human selfishness, we cannot expect people s concerns to
extend farther. By adopting the common point of view we correct for the distortions of sympathy by
entering into the feelings of those close to the person being evaluated even if they are remote from us.
The mechanism of sympathy ultimately accounts for this approval and the corresponding disapproval
of the natural vices. Sympathy also explains our approval of the artificial virtues whereas we approve
each individual exercise of such natural virtues as gratitude and friendship because we sympathize
with those who are affected by each such action when we consider it from the common point of

Factors that Contribute to the Perception of...
Courtship was once viewed as a significant phase in a person s life in which individuals participated in
activities such as long walks in the park while under the supervision of adults and the community
(Lloyd, 1991). Although men would only act on courting behaviors when they proved to have the
means to provide for a future family, the activities did not involve an excessive amount of money
spending like it does today. While sexual exploitation has been used by many throughout the years,
individuals are becoming more aware of the tactics and cues used by one another. Men and women
casually date multiple individuals and deceive each other to increase their chances of sustaining a
mate, whether it be for a short term or long term period ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As in the study with men, women were asked to view pictures of other women depicting specific cues
that could be associated with exploitability. In correspondence to the men s study, the participating
women found cues that depicted women as easy, flirtatious, promiscuous, and intoxicated to
significantly correlate with exploitability; while cues such as anxious, intelligent, and shy had a
negative correlation. The study concluded that both men and women are aware of the cues used in
order to sexually exploit an individual. One can further conclude that women who are aware of such
cues use them as a means to attract a mate as well (Goetz et al., 2013).
While many individuals are in search for a lifelong partner, others are eager to casually date for a short
period of time. Although many studies suggest men are prone to use tactics for short term mating and
women prefer long term mating (Haselton, Buss, Oubaid, Angleitner, 2005), women also acquire short
term mating techniques (Buss Schmitt, 1993). In the study measuring women s perception of
exploitable tactics by Goetz et al. (2013), researchers looked at women who were more inclined to use
exploitability tactics to attract a mate. Although the study found women generally were more likely to
use non exploitative cues, those individuals who were more

  • 3. Escobedo V. Illinois Case Study Escobedo v. Illinois Monsees, Escobedo v. Illinois: Right to seek counsel Mark Monsees Liberty High School AP Government 3A/B The right to consult a lawyer when being questioned by the police is a very important right as it could potentially save an individual from being convicted for whatever he or she has been accused of. This case was centered on Danny Escobedo who was taken into custody by the Chicago police department on January 20th, 1964, for the shooting of his brother in law. During Escobedo?s interrogation he continuously asked to consult with his lawyer. The authorities in charge of Escobedos interrogation refused to provide a lawyer for Escobedo, which ultimately ended up with him confessing to the murder of his brother in law. Being forced into confessing to the murder of his brother in law drove Escobedo to take his case to the supreme court under the premise that his sixth amendment right of right to counsel, which didn?t apply constitutional to felony offences until the 1963 supreme court case Gideon v. Some argue that immigrants are important as they take the employments Americans don t wish to take, and that they later ought to be offered authorization to remain in the nation. Others nonetheless, are of the sentiment that they ought to be extremely punished seeing as what they are doing is illicit, arguing that the illegal workers are taking endlessly occupations from Americans and not paying their duties. Illicit immigrants originate from another nation, so financial issues can emerge when there are excess measures of emigration. Such a pattern can destabilize outside nations and diminish the ability of U.S. firms to fare products to those countries. In 2010, the normal unlawful immigrant family unit receives around $24,721 in government advantages and administrations while paying some $10,334 in taxes. This produced a normal yearly financial shortage (benefits got less expenses paid) of around $14,387 per family unit. This cost must be borne by U.S. citizens. Under current law, all illegal immigrant family units together have a total yearly shortfall of around $54.5 billion. In addition, at the government level, around 33% of costs are coordinated by tax accumulations from illegal immigrants. At the state and neighborhood level, a normal of under 5 percent of general society costs related with illicit immigration is recovered through taxes gathered from displaced aliens. Most illegal immigrants don t pay wage taxes. Among the individuals who do, a significant part of the incomes gathered are discounted to the displaced people when they record government forms. • 5. Essay on California Space Heaters California Space Heaters, Inc. November 30, 2010 There is a fine line between how much safety a corporation should provide to the consumer regarding its products vs. how much responsibility of safety should fall on the average consumer. Take, for instance, the all too familiar McDonald s coffee episode. Does McDonald s have a responsibility to its customers to ensure the coffee isn t hot enough to scald if spilled upon one s lap? Or should the customer be held responsible for their own safety in regards to common sense judgment? This is what California Space Heaters, Inc. (CSH) must consider when deciding exactly which products to launch. Kerosene heaters are often times used in shops and garages as well as inside homes. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A corporation that has been given such estimates from its engineering department has a responsibility to implement a safety device. Electric start is the single most important option that should be incorporated on all models for safety reasons. The profile of users in a shop or garage setting differs greatly from users in a home. Users in a shop or garage are more likely to be mechanically inclined. Additionally, safety features are arguably more important in a home than in a shop or garage. In a home, the heater is typically closer to combustibles, including furniture, curtains, and carpet. Due to these variables, CSH should market an indoor/outdoor heater and an outdoor only heater. The only necessary option on the outdoor heater is the electric start, as previously discussed. A shop or garage user will likely be more mechanically inclined and able to adjust the wick accurately. A thermostat shouldn t be needed because the unit will less likely be near combustibles. Overheating due to flare ups will not be as big of an issue either because of the surroundings, not to mention the user is more likely to notice flare ups because the unit will only be operating when he or she is in the garage or shop, in most cases. A removable tank would also not be necessary since fill up is easier outdoors. On the other hand, the indoor/outdoor heater should have three options incorporated on the base model. The first is the electric start option, as mentioned ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. What Was The Truman Doctrine Essay Right from the start of the Cold War, after the Second World War (1939 1945), the European continent was split up once more and two ideologies were considered to dominate most countries. The Truman doctrine, established in 1947 by the President of the United States of America forged the Western bloc and put forward capitalism as a strong political ideology . Following this doctrine was the initiation of the Marshall plan, a financial and military help, which goal was to reduce The Soviet Union s influence on eastern countries. The leading force of the Eastern bloc, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (U.S.S.R.) answered to the United States doctrine with the Zhdanov doctrine which divided the world between the imperialists , the United States and the socialists , the Soviet Union. Communism was the ideology in the U.S.S.R. and its allied countries. Defeated after the end of the Second World War, Germany was split in four occupation zones as it was discussed at the Potsdam Conference (July August 1945). The three zones belonging to the western countries (French zone, British zone and American zone) were unified and thus opposed to the soviet zone. • 7. Analysis Of Titus Andronicus By William Shakespeare In William Shakespeare s play, Titus Andronicus, the main character Titus Andronicus is a perfect example of the never ending cycle of vengeance. Throughout the play, Titus and Tamora seek resolution and closure through revenge. Throughout the play, these characters do not realize the resolution to their war over vengeance is making peace. When one person chooses to get back at the other this creates a never ending loop of revenge or topping one another s conflict. The key to success in this situation would be for one to make peace, and in this play you will discover how these characters brought closure to their cycle of never ending vengeance. In the play, the audience is shown how vengeance controls one s perspective. In other words, vengeance can impact and skew ones view on life and negatively impair one s decisions. The audience understands from the beginning of the play how Tamora s positive and sympathetic character is very evident; although, in Act II, her mind and actions has been dramatically skewed and twisted. I learned that the universal indicator is also a good solution for the three types of compounds. The colours are different depending on what substance you are testing. The colours that we discovered in the pH scale are pink, red or orange. As for bases the colour was either light or dark green sometimes yellow. The colours for neutral, were violet or purple. In real life we are exposed to acids and bases everyday. For example, citric acid is in lots of citrus foods such as lemons, oranges and grapefruits. Analysis Of The Hunger Of Memory By Richard Rodriguez The Hunger of Memory was written as an autobiography by Richard Rodriguez, and with any success story, there is much more than what meets the eye. Throughout the first section of this chapter, Rodriguez discusses his early education and home life while introducing Hoggart s idea of the Scholarship Boy. Growing up surrounded by his parents and siblings, Rodriguez was always the odd one out; often times, he would be found locked in his closet or under his bed reading. His parents, living vicariously through him, did everything they could to encourage him and his studies, yet Rodriguez continued to grow resentful and embarrassed of them. In Ray Bradbury s The Martian Chronicles, Bradbury allows the reader to grasp a greater understanding of what alienation is like by bringing the story to a world of actual aliens. By doing so, Bradbury sets a wall between the extraterrestrial setting of the book and humanity s reality on earth. He also creates a sense of separation by never allowing the story s characters to live too far throughout the book. This tactic keeps the reader from gaining a connection between the characters. The state of being alienated is defined as being withdrawn. The way Bradbury writes this book allows the reader to not only read about alienation, but to truly understand it too. Bradbury begins ... When Mr. K finally does request that him and his wife go into town with their odd, birdlike pets, Mrs. K finds that she doesn t want too. COVERAGE DRIVEN VIP FOR AVALON MEMORY MAPPED INTERFACE USING UVM Abstract: The verification phase carries an important role in design cycle of a System on Chip (SoC). A verification environment may be prepared using SystemVerilog without using any particular methodology but that will be different for every variation of the design. The UVM testbench increases robustness of functional verification, and allows you to create flexible, adaptable, scalable testbenches. It offers quantifiable, measurable progress, and changing test sequences can be used to easily increase code coverage. This project describes the use of coverage driven verification for Avalon Memory Mapped Interface VIP using UVM methodology. The Avalon bus is a simple bus architecture which makes the connection between on chip processors and peripherals together into a SOPC. It is an interface that specifies the port connections between master and slave components, and also specifies the timing by which these components communicate. Avalon Memory Mapped (Avalon MM) interfaces can be used to implement read and write interfaces for master and slave components. In this work all components of testbench has been created to make a VIP. The coverage collected on mm_cvgrp is 91.6%. Radiology originated with ionizing radiation to diagnose human disease, however since discovering the physiological risks associated with ionizing radiation, such as mutation/cancer, an ongoing controversy arises as to whether ionizing radiation should be used in medical diagnosis. This investigation will analyze each end of the argument continuum to determine if ionizing radiation should continue to be used in medical diagnosis. Having few procedures employing ionizing radiation throughout your life may seem harmless, but as the levels of doses increase, your risk of developing cancer rises at the same rate, according to the LNT model. Figure 4 below exhibits potential medical consequences of certain periods of exposure to ionizing radiation: CONCLUSION Given the evidence, it can be concluded that while there are risks that arise with ionizing radiation in medical diagnosis, overall the benefits outweigh the risks, as doctors are able to diagnose various health concerns that would go undetected otherwise. • 15. Hostage Negotiation Is An Important Part Of The Criminal... Hostage negotiation is an important part of the criminal justice system, and is a tactic that is practiced by most branches of criminal justice. Almost every law enforcement agency in the United States has established either a hostage recovery team or has a crisis negotiator on staff (McClain, Callaghan, Madrigal, Unwin, Castoreno, 2006). The point of hostage negotiation is for criminal justice professionals to reason with alleged perpetrators in hostage or barricade situations. There are five possible ways to resolve a hostage or barricade situation: SWAT team tactical assault and apprehension of the perpetrator, perpetrator killed, perpetrator suicide or escape, or negotiated surrender (Hatcher, Mohandie, Turner, Gelles, 1998). While forcible actions are associated the most to law enforcement agencies, hostage negotiation is considered one of the most explicitly psychological law enforcement discipline, and it also provides the most desirable outcome to a hostage situation (Soskis Zandt, 1986). More than 75% of hostage or barricade situations are successfully resolved through a negotiated surrender, and fewer than 10% of hostage or barricade cases result in loss of the perpetrators life (Hatcher, Mohandie, Turner, Gelles, 1998). Before the 1970 s, law enforcement agencies used a force only approach to hostage situations, in which SWAT or tactical law enforcement teams would storm in and use force (often deadly force) to neutralize a hostage situation. • 23. Is Sexual Selection Within Male Pharomachrus Mocinno... Title: Is Sexual Selection In Male Pharomachrus mocinno favoured by Longer Plume Tail Length due to Increase in Colour? Introduction: The Pharomachrus mocinno has evolved many behavioural and physical traits as a result of adaptation to the current environment and lifestyle it leads, however this proposal will focus on the unusual plume tail length of the male P. mocinno. This particular species habitat requires nests as high as 22 meters in rotting trees (Seigfried et al. 2010). Therefore, the function of the feathers would typically be assumed to enhance flight, as that would make sense as a useful function in this scenario due to the high elevation. Surprisingly, however, the long length of the plume tail actually decreases the speed of the male bird due to the drag force of air (Norberg 1995) and requires it to drop backward off the branches before being able to fly forward normally (LaBastille et al. 1972). With such issues with the long plume tails, would sexual selection really be in this traits favour? In a study done on the widowbird such was the case; males with longer plumes were mated the most (Andersson 1982). However, the widowbird is completely black (including its tail), while in the case of Pharomachrus mocinno it is a very colourful bird. Previous studies also have shown, that the bright reflective colours on the male s bodies help in attracting females (LaBastille et al. 1972). Therefore, it s possible that the long length of the P. mocinno male s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The United States Legislative Branch Of Government The United States legislative branch of government is best described as bicameral meaning of two houses where two governing bodies separately but functionally unitedly oversee the law making duties of the country. The two houses of the legislative branch are the Senate and the House of Representatives which both have distinct but crucial duties regarding key decisions affecting anywhere from individual districts to the United States as a collective entity. Members of the House of Representatives and the Senate (altogether called Congress ) belong to one of the two main American political parties; republicans or democrats. While a third party does exist they are substantially irrelevant in the current governing system. The third, independent, party does not achieve the popularity to be a representative heuristic of the people of America. By nature a democracy should reflect upon the needs and wants of the citizens of that democracy therefore bureaucrats in the House of Representatives and the Senate are appointed their seats in congress through direct election. The House of Representatives serves as a representation of the population of a single district; a district being an area of a state divided evenly among other districts in the state based on population results from the U.S. Census. Unlike Jutras study of NHIMA band musicians who practiced 3.75 hours per week, Coffman s (2008) NHIMA band members practiced 7 hours per week. The SF 36v2 Health Survey revealed that participants reported NHIMA benefited them by 74% overall well being, 24% physical well being, 21% cognitive stimulation, and 20% socialization (see Table 2.2). The differences between Jutras (2011) NHIMA study and Coffman s (2008) NHIMA study are motivation to learn music, and practicing instruments daily in preparation of rehearsals, which is standard practice for preparation of community concerts. Perhaps Coffman s (2008) musicians were more serious in developing their music competency skills and thereby achieved higher levels of brain activity. Whereas, Jutras (2011) musicians would fit the definition of health care patients or as Gates (1991) described them as recreationalists or as Stebbins (1992) described individuals as amateurs, volunteers, hobbyists, and dabblers. As the authors identified, participants lacked the motivation to play their instruments at home in preparation for band rehearsals, which are preparatory for music concerts. Similarly, Kaku mentioned that we are already able to develop a technology to implant computer chips into the brain cells and we will be able to control the computer (Physics of the Impossible 93). This shows that these types of impossibilities are more realistic and more likely to be possible, and some of them are even possible in this century. Let s consider the Robots, they already exist in the real world. Kaku talks about creating a force field, and this makes sense in practical life as well. If we can defect electrons in a magnetic field why won t be able to deflect a bullet creating a field that can be able to do it. The US military force has already tested a short gun based Force Field Technology . • 33. We Already Know That Self Discipline Is Important, But We already know that self discipline is important, but do we really need it? We know about success tools, and we familiarize ourselves with many useful resources that lead us to success, so why do we need self discipline? We all have goals for many areas of our lives. Some of us want successful relationships, some like to get more money, others want simply happiness in their lives and others seek better health with less weight. These are common goals, and we sometimes fail or succeed in achieving them. The general question is: Why we don t achieve those goals? Why we don t become successful in these goals? Our lives are full of temptations: we have TVs, good food, chocolates, video games... etc. These temptations makes it harder for us to resist having more fun and thus we neglect the more important goals in our lives. Almost all of us want to have a slim figure, but with these temptations around us almost all of the time, we lose that goal of a slim figure. Almost all of us want to make more money, but it is not easy to resist, for example, discounted travel packages. In these cases, we really need self discipline. It will allow us to focus on our goals and pursue them until we reach success. With self discipline, we can exercise better control on our instant wishes. It is the difference between what you feel and what you think. It is the borderline between your heart and your brain. You may want to eat that pizza which was shown on a TV commercial, but your self discipline stops you because you have a goal of weight control, and in this process it allows you to succeed in that goal. It is an amazing resource for success. Actually, many experts believe that it is impossible to reach success without it. According to Lou Holtz Without self discipline, success is impossible, period. • 35. Mel Gibson s Tragic Depiction In The Passion Of The Christ There s something fundamentally wrong with this world. Judeo Christians blame sin and man s sinful nature. Because of man s imperfection, we get death, deceit, and destruction. Everyone would agree the effects are monstrous, and deliverance from the world s depravity seems to be everyone s pursuit, yet we all fail at achieving it. Which is why Jesus Christ came to die for our sins, because the wages of sin is death; to be a vicarious sacrifice, the death of Christ had to be and was a gruesome event. But, how gruesome? And is the film The Passion of the Christ a sagacious depiction? Film critics have charged Mel Gibson, the director of The Passion of The Christ, for being unnecessarily morbid depicting the crucifixion and left out the achievement that Christ s offering brought to mankind. Others defend Gibson s portrayal; by arguing one must understand his Catholic background so as to shed light on his macabre depiction. Scott uses the motif of Christ s sacrifice of love for humanity and Gibson s depiction of the event as the perversion of the events that transpired. A viewer, particularly one who accepts the theological import of the story, is thus caught in a sadomasochistic paradox (Ibid). What Is The Importance Of Memory In Our Lives The Importance of Memory in Our Lives Memory is a process that involves retention, retrieval, and using the information that is taken in by the senses and stored. Memory can be compared to a time machine that allows you to go back into any moment in time. Memory can also be used by students to remember material for exams, their daily schedule, names, phone numbers, and directions to places. There are other things that students are not aware we use memory for such things are having conversations because memory is needed to track how the conversation is flowing as well as finding a class because it is necessary to remember the spatial layout of campus. Studying Memory Richard Atkinson and Richard Shiffrin (1968) proposed a model called the modal model of memory and was sort of a compilation of many features of models that were being proposed at that time. The model has structural features which are three stages. The first state is sensory memory which is where all information that is being taken in is held for a couple of seconds. The second stage is the short term memory which can hold 5 to 7 items for 15 to 30 seconds. The last stage is long term memory can hold a large amount of information that can be stored for years or decades. This memory system is described as a control process because it is active and is controlled by the individual and differs from person to person. The first three psychosexual stages are focused on more as they span the important first five years in which the id, ego and superego develop. Fixation, when libido (sexual pleasure drive) is locked into a stage, determines personality and is caused by either frustration or overindulgence. If a child is fixated in the oral stage for example, as a result of frustration, the adult will be characterised as envious, pessimistic and sarcastic. Freud believed normal development occurs when a child does not fixate on a stage. According to Erikson, the child develops socially as they pass through eight developmental stages, referred to as psychosocial stages, which are each characterised by a psychological crisis. The psychological crisis must be resolved in each stage before the child can move on to the next. Each stage also has two possible outcomes e.g. negative or positive and it is successfully completing each stage that results in a healthy personality and sense of self. Failing to complete a stage means the ability to complete further stages is reduced and personality and sense of self can become negative and unhealthy. In correspondence to the men s study, the participating women found cues that depicted women as easy, flirtatious, promiscuous, and intoxicated to significantly correlate with exploitability; while cues such as anxious, intelligent, and shy had a negative correlation. The study concluded that both men and women are aware of the cues used in order to sexually exploit an individual. One can further conclude that women who are aware of such cues use them as a means to attract a mate as well (Goetz et al., 2013). While many individuals are in search for a lifelong partner, others are eager to casually date for a short period of time. Although many studies suggest men are prone to use tactics for short term mating and women prefer long term mating (Haselton, Buss, Oubaid, Angleitner, 2005), women also acquire short term mating techniques (Buss Schmitt, 1993).
