Robert Johnson Research Paper
The Rise and Fall of Robert Johnson Destitute, rejected, and alone Robert Johnson seems to be in
complete despair when singing Crossroad Blues. Robert is acknowledged as The King of Delta Blues.
Born in Mississippi and known as a dirt poor African American boy. (Robert Johnson Blues
Foundation) he was recognized for his great lyrics, guitar playing and upmost contribution to artists.
Robert s songs and lyrics still live on today in artists such as; The Rolling Stones, that recorded Love
in Vain and Stop Breaking Down, Cream, who recorded Cross Road Blue (renamed Crossroad),
Fleetwoord Mac who recorded Hellhound on my Trail. (Charlton 7) Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton and the
Allman Brothers, also great entertainers, recorded his songs (Robert Johnson Blues Foundation).
Johnson s lyrics expressed insatiable desire for wine, women, and song. Recordings were
manufactured in makeshift studios such as hotels or office buildings (Charlton 7). Essentially Robert

that his soul is going down to hell due to the life that he has led. As he looks to the East and West

with no one who cares for him. As one listens to the lyrics of Crossroad Blues you can t help but feel
the dismal state that Johnson is singing about and how they seem to pertain to his own personal life.
Ironically, two years after Johnson recorded the Crossroad Blues his lifestyle was responsible for his
death. At the age of twenty seven 27 years old, it was believed that he was poisoned by a woman he
had possibly had an affair with of even by a scorned husband of such a woman (Biography.com).
Unfortunately, for Robert Johnson being known as one of the greatest blue

How Does Energy Affect Our Safety Through Our National...
Looking for apartments and being on my own for the first time brought to my attention how expensive
energy bills can be. I was determined to research a way to save on energy and cut down my bills.
While looking through the solutions I came across an intriguing discovery. Over the years energy
efficiency has become an epidemic, whether it affects global warming or protecting the environment,
saving money or improving the economy; conserving energy has a lot more to it than many people
will ever know. Everything we do requires energy. There is heat energy, light energy, mechanical
energy, electrical energy, chemical energy, nuclear energy, and so on. The fact that I was most
intrigued by is that energy plays a big part in our national ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As you can see the federal government deals with any crisis that arrives in our country to protect its
citizens. A crisis could occur at any moment in our lives and National Security is here for our
protection. Now that we know what National security is and what it has to do with our everyday lives,
I d like to explain what national security has to do with energy. I mentioned that one of the branches of
our national security is the security of natural resources and energy. By the word energy is meant the
power of doing work; and the energy which a laboring man possesses means, in the strictly physical
sense, the number of units which he is capable of accomplishing, (Stewart, 647). Since man require
such energy to do work, it is important that a group focus solely on energy security. Energy and
natural resources can consist of materials we use in our everyday lives; water, sources of energy such
as the wind and sun, fossil fuel, land, and power. As of 2011, the US has been one of the world s
largest energy consumers (Sovacool). Sovacool also describes energy security as equitably providing
available, affordable, reliable, efficient, environmentally benign, properly governed and socially
acceptable energy services to customers.
We now know that energy security is one of the more important branches of national security, but

dozier hedging
Dozier Hedging Alternatives Forward Market Hedge: Dozier would purchase U.S. dollars under a
forward contract. The contract would obligate Dozier to pay £1,057,500 in exchange for £1,057,500 x
1.4198 $/£ = $1,501,438.50 assuming the transaction was at the quoted 3 month forward rate in
Exhibit 4. Relative to the value of the contract at the current exchange rate, £1,057,500 x 1.4370 $/£ =
$1,519,627.50 Dozier would accepting a reduction in the revenue from the contract of $1,519,627.50
$1,501,438.50 = $18,198.00 or $18,198 / $1,519,627.50 = 1.20% Money Market Hedge: In this case,
Dozier would borrow an amount of British pounds that would obligate Dozier to a principal and
interest payment in three months that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Think of this in general as X/Y. So, the money market formula is, in general, (X interest rate Y interest
rate) / (1. + Y interest rate) or, in shorthand, (X Y) /(1 + Y) So if you were using a yen/dollar quote for
the exchange rate, you would have yen rate minus dollar rate divided by one plus dollar rate. Note that
none of this really solves Dozier s problem; but there is a theory that in well functioning markets, the
results from the two formulas should be equal. In other words, it shouldn t make a difference whether
you hedge in the forward market or in the money market. However this theory is based on comparing
apples to apples. Here the apples are the financial instruments whose interest rates we are comparing.
Our interest rate calculation is based on the cost of a UK bank loan to Dozier compared to rate on a
bank CD. The theory works a bit better if you use the Eurodollar rate and the Europound rate in
Exhibit 4, but even these are not precisely similar instruments. However, there is another use for the
formulas. Banks use them in pricing forward contracts! Suppose that we set the two formulas equal to
each other and do some rearrangements using my X/Y approach to stay general and to remind us what
we are doing. We can get the following result, solving for the forward rate: Forward rate = Spot rate x
(1 + X interest rate) / (1 + Y interest rate) Remember the rule is X over Y. When

Animals Of All Kinds Have Been Known For Their Positive...
Animals of all kinds have been known for their positive impact on humans. Animal assisted Therapy
(AAT) was first incorporated into the mental health institutions in the late eighteenth century to help
increase socializations among the patients. As of today, a number of AAT programs have mainly
targeted populations of patients with PTSD or those who have experienced trauma. PTSD (post
traumatic stress disorder) is classified as an anxiety disorder characterized by the common symptoms
avoidance, intrusion, alterations in mood and cognition, and alterations in arousal and reactivity (O
Haire, M.E,. Guerin, N.A., Kirkham, A.C., 2015). The presence of an animal is thought to encourage a
safe and open environment, elicit positive emotion and warmth, increase socializations, and increase
the release of oxytocin, which aids in the relaxation process. Perhaps that s why PTSD or trauma
patients respond so well when AAT is included in treatment. AAT is not a therapy used alone, but
rather coupled with other treatment to enhance the therapy process. (Dietz, T. J., Davis., Pennings, J.
2012).
PICO Statement My PICO statement is in patients with PTSD or traumatic experiences, what is the
effect of animal assisted therapy compared to no animal assisted therapy on decreasing traumatic
symptoms? Therapy is the type of PICO question. Based on my PICO statement the best type of
evidence to use for this particular question would be randomized or non randomized controlled trials.

Art Is An Art Essay
Art is created to make feel you something. Whether it is disgust, rage, devastation or joy, as long as it
is the artist s deliberation, you may call it art, Art is something which is meant to evoke emotion. It is
a representation of what the artist sees. It could be realistic or abstract. Art is a diverse range of human
activities and the products of those activities, usually involving imaginative and technical skills.
Everything you do is an art in some way, like the way you perform an activity is an individual art.
What you see and understand from it is also an art, looking at things from different perspective. When
you talk, how you talk is also an art. So overall there is no such thing as what cannot be an art as
everything is an art itself. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and needful to humanity replace the older feelings. That is the purpose of art. In every age there exists

Effects Of Climate Variables On Crop Productivity Essay
Although, a number of recent studies have carried out the effects of climate variables on crop
productivity using simulation crop models such as CERES maize, CERES rice or EPIC models
(Lansigan et al. 2000; Rosenzweig et al., 2002; Tan and Shibasaki, 2003; Popova and Kercheva 2005;
Tao et al., 2008; Yin et al. 2015,). Most of these studies estimate adversely harmful effects of climate
change on agriculture in both developed and developing countries using crop models (process based
or statistical) with global climate model (GCM) outputs.
A significant number of studies have been undertaken in recent decades in Asian regions using
ORYZA2000 crop model in the Philippines (Bouman and van Laar, 2006), India (Yadav et al. 2011;
Sumathi et al. 2015), Indonesia (Boling et al, 2007), China (Bouman et al, 2007; Feng et al, 2007; Sen
et al. 2011) and Iran (Amiri, 2008; Amiri and Rezaei, 2009).
In the mid 1990s, International Rice Research Institute and the Wageningen University and Research
Centre developed the ORYZA model series to simulate growth and development of tropical lowland
rice. The first model was ORYZA1 for potential production (Kropff et al, 1994), followed by
ORYZA_W for water limited production, and by ORYZA N and ORYZA1N (Mohandass et al. 1995)
for nitrogen limited production. Kropff et al (1994) reported some evaluation of ORYZA1, which
focused on the comparison between observed and simulated yields and end of season biomass values,

Importance Of Pep Rallies
I am going to tell you about the seating during pep rallies. I think that all of the grades in the school sit
as a whole. They should also be fired up and be having fun. Also be as social as possible. So I agree
that the seating should be all grades together.
All of the students should be fired up. I mean that s what pep rallies are for. You have to be as cheerful
as you can for your school. You should be proud and support your team or school. It is very important
to be fired up of course not all the time but every now and then is fine. It gets your blood pumping and
your being energetic so it is healthy for kids to cheer.
At a pep rally it should be the entire school not separate grades sitting together. As a whole school it

Unit 18 Database Design Oliver Taylor Resubmission
Unit 18
Task 1 What are the benefits of a relational database?
A benefit of a relational database would be that the data is only stored once. This means you don t
have to change multiple records and it doesn t take up much storage space. For the veterinary practise
this is ideal for them, as this is the main reason to why they re changing from paper to Microsoft
Access. Having everything on Access and not on paper means they can search for information quicker
through the search bar and also it can all be stored on a hard drive. This will save money on buying
filing cabinets, on storage space, time spent looking for information and on buying materials such as
paper and ink.
Another benefit would be its more secure. This is because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the field size is 70 , that means the user can input up to 70 letters, numbers or symbols. It s
important that you change it field size if it s the automatically the appropriate size. This is because if
you have a field size of 70, that ll take up 70 bytes of storage, which by itself isn t a lot, but over a
massive database that ll take up a lot of room. So for a First Name for example, instead of leaving it as
70, it should be changed to around 10 15.
One to One relationship
A one to one relationship in a database is where each row in a database is linked with another
database. Only one can be linked with another from another table. For example in Table A and Table
B, each row in Table has to be linked with another row in Table B. In each of them, they must have the
same number of rows, otherwise it won t work. This does make it sound like you could just merge the
two tables into one, which in theory is true. But the advantage of having two separate tables is that if
you have columns of data that you don t often use then you can separate them into another table. This
will make information in the primary table easier to read as it will only have the relevant information
in it.
One to many relationships
A one to many database relationship is where each row in a table can be related to many other rows in
another table. With being able to do this you can use frequently used data from one data and reference
it many

The Firewall Essay
The Firewall
WHAT IS A NETWORK FIREWALL?
A firewall is a system or group of systems that enforces an access control policy between two or more
networks. The means by which this control is accomplished varies widely, but in principle, the firewall
is a pair of mechanisms, one that blocks traffic and one that permits traffic. Some firewalls emphasize
blocking traffic, while others emphasize permitting traffic. The most important thing to recognize
about a firewall is that it implements an access control policy. If you don t know what kind of access
you want to permit or deny, or you let someone else or some product configure a firewall based on
judgment other than yours, that entity is making policy for your whole organization.
WHY ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Generally, firewalls are configured to protect against unauthenticated interactive logins from the
outside world. This protection, more than anything, helps prevent vandals from logging on to
machines on your network. More elaborate firewalls block traffic from the outside to the inside but
permit users on the inside to communicate freely with the outside. The firewall can protect you against
any type of network borne attack if you unplug it.
Firewalls are also important because they are a single point where you can impose security and
auditing. If someone attacks a computer system by dialing in with a modem, tracing the perpetrator is
impossible. In contrast, the firewall can act as an effective phone tap and tracing tool. Firewalls also
provide an important logging and auditing function, summarizing topics such as the kinds and amount
of traffic that passed through it and how many attempted break ins occurred recently.
WHAT CAN T A FIREWALL PROTECT AGAINST?
Firewalls can t protect against attacks that don t go through the firewall. Many corporations that
connect to the Internet are very concerned about proprietary data leaking out of the company.
Unfortunately, a magnetic tape exports data just as effectively as the Internet. Many organizations
whose management is terrified of Internet connections have no coherent policy about protecting dial
in access via modems. It s silly to build a steel door six feet thick

Paraphilia Research Paper
Most people that have paraphilic disorder are male and they are most likely to participate in such
behavior between the ages of 15 and 25. The most common sexual paraphilia is sexual masochism.
Women are less likely to be diagnosed with his disorder. Disorders can occur regardless of ethnicity,
socioeconomic status, and sexual orientation (301). It is important to note that certain terms are not
scientific, but rather reflects the moral beliefs of the culture. For example, Nymphomania is defined as
abnormal or excessive sexual desire in a woman (301). There are noncoercive paraphilias which are
considered harmless and victimless. Examples are fetishism and transvestism (307). Fetishism is when
an object becomes a sexual symbol. The object becomes important to a person s arousal. However,

My Favorite City Essay
Imagine waking up early in the morning, getting in the car, and driving for a couple of hours to your
favorite city to visit. It is an immensely great feeling that occurs once you reach it. We all have our
favorite places to visit. What makes your favorite city so great? All of the best cities in Michigan
should have certain characteristics to be considered the best.
Most favorable cities in Michigan all have the quality of a dedicated lighthouse and pier. For example,
in the city of Port Austin, Michigan there is a towering lighthouse at the end of a long pier that
stretches out into Lake Huron. It is a tremendous feeling walking for a couple of minutes and reaching
the end of the pier. The feeling is quite breathtaking to look at the clear blue water with a snappy
breeze blowing. The whole experience of walking for a couple of minutes to make it to the lighthouse
is why Port Austin is such a fantastic destination. Another example of an outstanding city with a
lighthouse is Charlevoix, Michigan. Charlevoix is up north near the top of the mitten. There is a small
lighthouse on a small pier that opens the sizable Lake Charlevoix into Lake Michigan. One of the best
things to do in the summer is jumping off of the Charlevoix lighthouse pier into the crisp water of lake
Michigan. The water is so clear and blue and feels so refreshing on a hot summer day. Seeing the
boats go through the channel and sitting by the water is why I continue to go back to Charlevoix. A

The Terrifying Canoe Ride in Turks and Caicos
Have you ever gotten stuck in the middle of ocean? Well, I have. It happened when I was only 10
years old, in the middle of the summer when I was on vacation in Turks and Caicos. While I was

and I kept bugging my mom and my siblings to do it. When they finally agreed to do it, I didn t know
how much trouble it would put me in the future and all my other siblings into too. I learned from this

When I got back on the shore, I saw my mom smiling and then laughing. At first, I was a little irritated

What Australopithecus Afarensis Skeleton Known As `` Lucy...
Multiple Choice: 1. (D) Donald Johanson discovered the australopithecus afarensis skeleton known as
Lucy . Lucy was named as such after the Beatles song Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds , as it had been
playing in the expedition camp. Using a famous song to name the skeleton increased public awareness
of early humans and evolution studies. Donald Johanson s discovery allowed researchers a much
better understanding of what australopithecus afarensis looked like. 2. (D) A specialist in the study of
early civilization and early humans is known as a paleoanthropologist. This makes sense as the root of
the word paleoanthropologist is the Greek palaeos (old/ancient), and anthrōpos (man). As such,
paleontologist is a person who studies ancient man, which would cover both early humans and early
civilizations. 3. (B) The recognizable remains of a plant or animal are known as fossils. Unlike

Greek Drama Dbq
Greek plays required a very specific setting to be performed and written. The society needs to allow
people the needed time to work and perform plays as well as educate them enough to be able to write
the plays. Athens was a society that based itself off of education. This allowed people to have
knowledge to write and read yet still gave them free time to work on plays. Sparta, was a militaristic
society that was only focused on raising the best possible warriors. This meant education, free time,

A Brief Biography of Shel Silverstein
When looking at Shel Silverstein it is very important important to consider his early life. Shel was

his famous children s books such as The Giving Tree and Where the Sidewalk Ends (Isherwood).

Examples Of Escapism In Catcher In The Rye
The Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger, is about a very troubled, adolescent teenage boy and three
extremely pivotal days in his life. Holden Caulfield, the protagonist of this novel, is in search of
something in his life. Something that he can hold on to, someone to catch him. However, Holden
cannot find what he is looking for in life, because everything he sees is phony. To him, the world is
full of transparent people living transparent lies. Holden finds himself in the midst of a phony, greedy
and destructive world, which he unsuccessfully tries to escape several times. In an attempt to protect
himself from what he sees as the predatory nature of society, Holden surrounds himself and his mind
with forms of escapism, but ultimately fails. Holden attempts to use physical and mental escapism
many times throughout the novel. In the early chapters of The Catcher in ... Show more content on

He becomes a phony, the very type of person he hates the most, in order to fit in with society. He lies
to others as well as to himself in order to create a false, fantasy world where he is the hero, the phony.
However, ultimately he is unsuccessful at fixing his ultimate problem, because the lies only make his
situation worse. In the final chapters of The Catcher in the Rye, Holden finally gets a glimpse of how
to make things better. By protecting others, like his sister Phoebe, Holden is finally able to protect
himself, in a way. As C.W. Trowbridge puts it in his article, The catcher, in fact, wants to be caught,
the saviour [sic] saved. (Trowbridge p. 688) Holden sees in Phoebe the very thing he is desiring to
prevent from the children around him, a fall from innocence. In the last few chapters of The Catcher in
the Rye, Holden finally realizes that the fall from innocence and into an adult world really is not as
bad as it seems. Because of his sister Phoebe, Holden finally gains enough courage to let go and

How To Pulverize DNA In Criminal Investigation
Introduction
There are many ways to investigate a crime in order to find justice. Main ways embrace the sub
disciplines of forensic anthropology, forensic botany, forensic entomology, forensic odontology and
various DNA or protein based techniques. This investigation is directed at DNA based techniques.
DNA Relation
DNA, or deoxyribonucleic acid, contains all the hereditary data around a human being. It s the
directions for the body s whole hereditary cosmetics. DNA is one of a kind to every distinct
individual. A man has the same DNA all through his whole body, and it s situated in each cell. Cells
are the fundamental building squares of all people ( Criminal Law Lawyers.com, n.d.) . This can be
used by forensic scientist to essentially then determine if DNA samples such as mouth cells, hair or
blood match the criminals. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For this situation, DNA from kiwis will be extracted to copy human DNA.
Actinidia deliciosa, often known as the kiwifruit is a hexaploid species with 6X= chromosomes. The
considerable greater part of Actinidia species are diploid, with 2X=58 chromosomes
(http://www.actahort.org/books/297/297_5.htm). Hence why kiwi is a great fruit to investigate with. It
also yields a reasonable amount of DNA. This makes it easier to make observations on the DNA
extracted from the kiwi and make judgments on what impacts different chemicals had on it.
The DNA is stored where the nuclei is, therefore the kiwi is placed in a ziplock bag and is smashed in
order to break open these cells and reveal the DNA. The atomic films must be opened up with a
specific end goal to discharge the DNA, in this way DNA extraction arrangement is utilized. DNA is
insoluble in alcohol, so it precipitates (http://www.actahort.org/books/297/297_5.htm). Therefore
becoming very visible and making it easy to capture and place on the petri

Mccandless, Mccandless And Thoreau
Similar to Thoreau, McCandless does not associate being in solitude to being lonesome. Throughout
his journey, McCandless avoids forming close bonds with others because it distracts him from his
final goal of independence and transcendentalism. This lack of intimate relationships frees
McCandless as seen through the journal entry he wrote before walking into the Alaskan Bush. He
writes proudly that for two years he has roamed with no company and no comforts. He calls it,
Ultimate freedom (Krakauer 163). The fact that he considers it more of a freedom than a loss to live in
solidarity shows that like Thoreau, McCandless does not feel lonely when he is alone. According to
his sister, Carine, even when he was younger, he was fine with being alone. She said that although he
had friends, he could easily entertain himself and never seemed lonely when he was alone. Another
instance in which McCandless s dissociation of solitude and loneliness shows is in a letter he writes to
Ron Franz, a man he met near Salton City. In this letter, he tells Franz to step outside his comfort zone
and live a more adventurous life. Towards the end of the letter, he states, You are wrong if you think
Joy emanates only or principally from human relationships, (Krakauer 57). This approach is how he is
not lonely in solitude; he is capable of finding joy in things other than human contact.
Thoreau lived as a minimalist to strip away the distractions of life. He wanted to live in the woods,

While researching the Tet Offensive, there is a lot of information about Non Vietnamese communist

In the reading the reading Decision making Leading to the Tet Offensive (1968) The Vietnamese

How it leaves its mark is different with each war. With the Vietnam War, the Tet Offensive is still
being used as an example in wars after Vietnam and our current war. Two reads that describe how Tet
affected the Americans afterward is An Old, Old Story by James S. Robbins and Decision making
Leading to the Tet Offensive by Ang Cheng Guan. Throughout Guans articles it talks about the
Vietnamese Communists plans for the Tet Offensive, however towards the end, Guan states The
General Offensive General uprising is a good example of how difficult and complex it was to carry
out Mao s three stage strategy of war (353). Notice how Guan uses good and example he is letting the
readers know that the Tet Offensives also known as General uprising is a good example of what not to
do because it was so complex and difficult. It is important because it allows readers to know that Guan
felt it was not a good strategy for the war. However, Robbins share in his writings that the Tet
Offensive is still affecting us today and even though the Vietnamese communist lost the Tet Offensive
it is still being used by our enemies. The Tet story line is always lurking when U.S. forces are engaged
against weak, unconventional enemies who lash out under limited and exceptional circumstances and
briefly capture attention of the media (Robbins50). By Robbins stating that the story line is always

The Effects of Globalization on Labor Relations in the...
The Effects of Globalization on Labor Relations in the Auto Industry in the 80s and 90s Over the last
several decades Labor relations within the United Auto Workers (UAW) and the automakers they are
attached to have been a roller coaster ride. In the 1960 s and 1970 s the Union made substantial gains
for its members in all aspects of bargaining. Wages were increased at levels unheard of today and they
made huge improvements on health care and other fringe benefits. Membership was steadily
increasing and the union s power was profound. The Nations economy was growing as fast as the
baby boomers who were driving it and globalization was a term seldom heard of. Strikes were a lethal
weapon in the union s arsenal and they would use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This meant that they needed to diversify their operations and build plants in other markets outside of
the United States. They also needed more flexibility within their current operations and an avenue to
reduce the amount of employees needed to manufacture vehicles. Technology was better than ever and
played a big role in the automakers plans to become competitive, however the union contracts that
governed the companies operating procedures were binding documents and limited managements
actions. The union still had a considerable amount of power within the Big Three. They were already
organized and the contracts that were established made it difficult for management to deviate from the
agreements. The union contracts limited the flexibility that automakers had with their hourly
workforce and any changes the companies wanted to make had to be negotiated with the union when
the contracts expired. That practice was not an issue for the foreign companies and the Big Three
needed a way to get around this bureaucratic process. The avenue they chose was outsourcing. The
Big Three in their endless attempts to out do the competition, focused on outsourcing work to
automotive supplier companies. This was not a new concept, but in the past there wasn t as large a
disparity in wages between workers so there was little or no cost savings and foreign competition was
not a factor. This tactic saved the Big Three billions of

Essay On The Tlatelolco Massacre
(Credit: U.S Geological Survey)
The above image is of a building that is not only concurrent with the newest building codes but it was
also built on solid ground that geologist cleared for building. This lapse in judgement led to reform in
both the government and in area building codes however it was necessary to reform one before one
could reform the other. Despite the damage done by the earthquake, the people s biggest enemy was
that of the government. The government of Mexico at the time was run by the (PRI) or Institutional
Revolutionary Party, unfortunately for its citizens however this party was not interested in picking up
the pieces of the community or helping rebuild. Instead they were focused on advancing their own
means, this became clear when the military was authorized to help Friends of the party and ignore
those who might be seen as dissidents. When one hears the term party friends images of the Soviet
Union or China come to mind, however while not as dramatic as the Soviets that is indeed what was
happening in Mexico at the time. With the Institutional Revolutionary Party s reputation still stained

M1 Garand Rifle Essay
IntroI am doing this report on the M1 Garand for Mr.Walker 182 s History Class. The Garand is a
fascinating World War II semi automatic rifle. In the sub sections below I will describe the

While the military argued against the .276 caliber, Garand s .276 caliber design was recommended for
adoption on January 4, 1932.
On February 25, 1932, the Army Chief of Staff, General Douglas MacArthur, put an end to the caliber
issue, stating quot;this change will introduce an element of chaos, confusion and uncertainty which,
when magnified under war conditions, would more than counteract the beneficial effect of any semi
automatic rifle. quot; With this statement, MacArthur ordered the development of a .30 caliber rifle.
This did not delay Garand s work because he had already developed a design to fire the .30 caliber on
his own time in anticipation of such an event. Two more years would pass before the rifle was adopted
as the United States Rifle, M1 on January 9, 1936. The United States became the first country in
history to adopt a semi automatic rifle as its standard military rifle after this event. Problems beset the
M1 as it was first being issued. They occurred in the area where expanding gases of the fired bullets
were tapped from the barrel to operate the rifle and the rifle suffered stoppages after firing only seven
of the eight rounds in its clip.
The M1 s early performance problems gave it such a bad reputation that after the 1939 National
Matches, the National Rifle Association was able to get Congress to look at the problem. A major
redesign was ordered on October 26, 1939 and Garand redesigned the rifle to operate with gases

The Collapse Of Abc Learning Centers
Question 1:
After the collapse of ABC Learning Centers (ABC), many investors kept asking the same question:
Why were not we warned?
According to research, warning signs or red flags can be found through the careful reading and
analysis of historical financial statements of the company. Financial statements always provide at least
one warning portraying the deteriorating nature of the financial position of a company and its
subsequent financial performance. Like in other companies, ABC provided warning signals through
analyzing its annual reports such as the financial reports.
One thing that is certainly clear from the financial analysis alone is that there were many warning
signals just from analyzing the financial report alone. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was no proof that ABC was involved in intentional cosmetic accounting. Furthermore, there
were rumors from the financial press that the gross revenue figures of ABC were overstated by
including developer rebates. There is no doubt that financial analysts could have used the overstated
2005 notes as an alert.
Question 2:
Running a business venture requires a continuous examination and evaluation of the daily running of
the business. Financial ratios can be used to ensure the business maintains and continues in its
profitability trend. They can be used to show the strengths and weaknesses of a particular business.
Examining financial ratios for a particular period of time can be used to identify unusual changes thus
alerting the management on the progress of the business venture. Financial ratios are also helpful in
carrying out financial analysis and forecasting. They also allow the owner of the business and the
entire management to come up with business specific goals that can easily be traced to determine the
company s progress towards achieving them.
Financial ratio analysis refers to the process where financial ratios are calculated. Financial ratios are
mathematical indicators that are calculated by the comparison of key financial information found in
financial reports and statements, and analysing them to find out reasons why the business is at its
current financial position, and how the business is performing financially; this

The Law And Civil Law
As American citizens it is our duty to follow the laws stated in the American Constitution in order to
maintain our rights to be free. If we fail to follow the laws we lose our rights as free citizens in these
United States. Our Department of Justice mission statement is: To enforce the law and defend the
interests of the United States according to the law; to ensure public safety against threats foreign and
domestic; to provide federal leadership in preventing and controlling crime; to seek just punishment
for those guilty of unlawful behavior; and to ensure fair and impartial administration of justice for all
Americans. This just means to keep the United States safe and justified. It is for people who threaten
that need to be punished in order for our country to remain a safe place. Laws are made to protect and
two types of laws are Criminal Law and Civil Law. They both punish wrong doers but different kinds.
Criminal Law is the body of statutory and common law that deals with crime and the legal punishment
of criminal offenses. While Civil Law deals with the disputes between individuals, organizations, or
between the two, in which compensation is awarded to the victim. In terms of punishment they are
different because in Criminal Law A guilty defendant is punished by either incarceration in a jail or
fine paid to the government, or, in exceptional cases, the death penalty. Crimes are divided into two
broad classes: Felonies and Misdemeanors. Defendant can be

Eight Amendment Pros And Cons
Although all citizens are protected the by the United States Constitution, minors are categorized as a
special group; preventing them from making decisions without their guardian s consent. Thus, under
the parameters set by the Constitution, at the age of sixteen, Wendy should not be permitted to refuse
chemotherapy treatment. Contrarily, in some states, if Wendy establishes her independence from her
parents or at least is able to demonstrate a high level of maturity, she may be allowed to dictate her
medical treatment (Mernikoff, 2001). Initially, I dismissed the idea of minors controlling their medical
treatment. My reasoning stemmed from the potential consequences that may result as many other
minors will insist on ending their life prematurely. However, after taking the Eighth Amendment
(Cruel and Unusual Punishment) into serious consideration, there should be exceptions made in
situations similar to Wendys . From personal experience, I have witnessed several family members
undergo chemotherapy. Often their side effects of the treatment were worse than the disease itself.
Effects, varying form person to person, ranged from nausea and ... Show more content on

While this is accurate, the amendment was constructed during a time when beheading and burning
individuals were conventional. Fortunately for us, the Supreme court ruled the standard for cruel and
unusual punishment must draw its meaning from evolving standards of decency that mark the progress
of a maturing society (Cornell, 1958 ). And currently we do not face punishments as those conducted
in 1700s. Instead the mortality rate of cancer has raised to well over five hundred thousand per year
and the number one cause of death is heart disease (CDC, 2016). Therefore, I strongly support the idea
that cruel and unusual punishment could be applied to individuals undergoing medical treatment that
includes severe side

William Shakespeare s Beowulf Essay
Tuttle 1
Beowulf Unfit to be King of the Geats For 1000 years we have been reading of the adventures of
Beowulf, and his story was told for hundreds of years before. The tale is full of trials, tribulations,
adventure, great loss, great victory, and wonderful battles. But, what do we make of it? Is it a tale told
to illustrate the virtues of the epic hero himself, or is it a cautionary tale, told to warn the readers of the
dangers of allowing unqualified men (or women) to ascend to a position of leadership and the
inevitable results of such an event?
The author of Beowulf takes great care to describe the hero in detail, and we, as readers, learn about
his abundant courage and strength. We are taken on a tour through his early struggles, his successes
against the great monster Grendel and Grendel s mother, and his ultimate demise during his battle with
a dragon. But one needs to analyze the unstated theme in order to fully appreciate the effect that
Beowulf has had on readers for generations. Stanley Greenfield, in his article Beowulf and Epic
Tragedy writes that, in the end, For all of Beowulf s efforts, he is reaped only with useless gold, for a
nation soon to perish (104). This is representative of the core issue at hand in this epic. Beowulf is
unfit to be a great king, despite his physical prowess. Because of his early and continuing history of
foolishly taking unnecessary risks, his excessive pride and lack of humility, the diminishing quality of
his personal

  • 2. Robert Johnson Research Paper The Rise and Fall of Robert Johnson Destitute, rejected, and alone Robert Johnson seems to be in complete despair when singing Crossroad Blues. Robert is acknowledged as The King of Delta Blues. Born in Mississippi and known as a dirt poor African American boy. (Robert Johnson Blues Foundation) he was recognized for his great lyrics, guitar playing and upmost contribution to artists. Robert s songs and lyrics still live on today in artists such as; The Rolling Stones, that recorded Love in Vain and Stop Breaking Down, Cream, who recorded Cross Road Blue (renamed Crossroad), Fleetwoord Mac who recorded Hellhound on my Trail. (Charlton 7) Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton and the Allman Brothers, also great entertainers, recorded his songs (Robert Johnson Blues Foundation). Johnson s lyrics expressed insatiable desire for wine, women, and song. Recordings were manufactured in makeshift studios such as hotels or office buildings (Charlton 7). Essentially Robert ... As one listens to the lyrics of Crossroad Blues you can t help but feel the dismal state that Johnson is singing about and how they seem to pertain to his own personal life. Ironically, two years after Johnson recorded the Crossroad Blues his lifestyle was responsible for his death. At the age of twenty seven 27 years old, it was believed that he was poisoned by a woman he had possibly had an affair with of even by a scorned husband of such a woman (Biography.com). • 3. How Does Energy Affect Our Safety Through Our National... Looking for apartments and being on my own for the first time brought to my attention how expensive energy bills can be. I was determined to research a way to save on energy and cut down my bills. While looking through the solutions I came across an intriguing discovery. Over the years energy efficiency has become an epidemic, whether it affects global warming or protecting the environment, saving money or improving the economy; conserving energy has a lot more to it than many people will ever know. Everything we do requires energy. There is heat energy, light energy, mechanical energy, electrical energy, chemical energy, nuclear energy, and so on. The fact that I was most intrigued by is that energy plays a big part in our national ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As you can see the federal government deals with any crisis that arrives in our country to protect its citizens. A crisis could occur at any moment in our lives and National Security is here for our protection. Now that we know what National security is and what it has to do with our everyday lives, I d like to explain what national security has to do with energy. I mentioned that one of the branches of our national security is the security of natural resources and energy. By the word energy is meant the power of doing work; and the energy which a laboring man possesses means, in the strictly physical sense, the number of units which he is capable of accomplishing, (Stewart, 647). Since man require such energy to do work, it is important that a group focus solely on energy security. Energy and natural resources can consist of materials we use in our everyday lives; water, sources of energy such as the wind and sun, fossil fuel, land, and power. As of 2011, the US has been one of the world s largest energy consumers (Sovacool). Sovacool also describes energy security as equitably providing available, affordable, reliable, efficient, environmentally benign, properly governed and socially acceptable energy services to customers. We now know that energy security is one of the more important branches of national security, but what I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The contract would obligate Dozier to pay £1,057,500 in exchange for £1,057,500 x 1.4198 $/£ = $1,501,438.50 assuming the transaction was at the quoted 3 month forward rate in Exhibit 4. Relative to the value of the contract at the current exchange rate, £1,057,500 x 1.4370 $/£ = $1,519,627.50 Dozier would accepting a reduction in the revenue from the contract of $1,519,627.50 $1,501,438.50 = $18,198.00 or $18,198 / $1,519,627.50 = 1.20% Money Market Hedge: In this case, Dozier would borrow an amount of British pounds that would obligate Dozier to a principal and interest payment in three months that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Think of this in general as X/Y. So, the money market formula is, in general, (X interest rate Y interest rate) / (1. + Y interest rate) or, in shorthand, (X Y) /(1 + Y) So if you were using a yen/dollar quote for the exchange rate, you would have yen rate minus dollar rate divided by one plus dollar rate. Note that none of this really solves Dozier s problem; but there is a theory that in well functioning markets, the results from the two formulas should be equal. In other words, it shouldn t make a difference whether you hedge in the forward market or in the money market. However this theory is based on comparing apples to apples. Here the apples are the financial instruments whose interest rates we are comparing. Our interest rate calculation is based on the cost of a UK bank loan to Dozier compared to rate on a bank CD. The theory works a bit better if you use the Eurodollar rate and the Europound rate in Exhibit 4, but even these are not precisely similar instruments. However, there is another use for the formulas. Banks use them in pricing forward contracts! Suppose that we set the two formulas equal to each other and do some rearrangements using my X/Y approach to stay general and to remind us what we are doing. We can get the following result, solving for the forward rate: Forward rate = Spot rate x (1 + X interest rate) / (1 + Y interest rate) Remember the rule is X over Y. When ... • 5. Animals Of All Kinds Have Been Known For Their Positive... Animals of all kinds have been known for their positive impact on humans. Animal assisted Therapy (AAT) was first incorporated into the mental health institutions in the late eighteenth century to help increase socializations among the patients. As of today, a number of AAT programs have mainly targeted populations of patients with PTSD or those who have experienced trauma. PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) is classified as an anxiety disorder characterized by the common symptoms avoidance, intrusion, alterations in mood and cognition, and alterations in arousal and reactivity (O Haire, M.E,. Guerin, N.A., Kirkham, A.C., 2015). The presence of an animal is thought to encourage a safe and open environment, elicit positive emotion and warmth, increase socializations, and increase the release of oxytocin, which aids in the relaxation process. Perhaps that s why PTSD or trauma patients respond so well when AAT is included in treatment. AAT is not a therapy used alone, but rather coupled with other treatment to enhance the therapy process. (Dietz, T. J., Davis., Pennings, J. 2012). PICO Statement My PICO statement is in patients with PTSD or traumatic experiences, what is the effect of animal assisted therapy compared to no animal assisted therapy on decreasing traumatic symptoms? Therapy is the type of PICO question. Based on my PICO statement the best type of evidence to use for this particular question would be randomized or non randomized controlled trials. ... Whether it is disgust, rage, devastation or joy, as long as it is the artist s deliberation, you may call it art, Art is something which is meant to evoke emotion. It is a representation of what the artist sees. It could be realistic or abstract. Art is a diverse range of human activities and the products of those activities, usually involving imaginative and technical skills. Everything you do is an art in some way, like the way you perform an activity is an individual art. What you see and understand from it is also an art, looking at things from different perspective. Effects Of Climate Variables On Crop Productivity Essay Although, a number of recent studies have carried out the effects of climate variables on crop productivity using simulation crop models such as CERES maize, CERES rice or EPIC models (Lansigan et al. 2000; Rosenzweig et al., 2002; Tan and Shibasaki, 2003; Popova and Kercheva 2005; Tao et al., 2008; Yin et al. 2015,). Most of these studies estimate adversely harmful effects of climate change on agriculture in both developed and developing countries using crop models (process based or statistical) with global climate model (GCM) outputs. A significant number of studies have been undertaken in recent decades in Asian regions using ORYZA2000 crop model in the Philippines (Bouman and van Laar, 2006), India (Yadav et al. 2011; Sumathi et al. 2015), Indonesia (Boling et al, 2007), China (Bouman et al, 2007; Feng et al, 2007; Sen et al. 2011) and Iran (Amiri, 2008; Amiri and Rezaei, 2009). In the mid 1990s, International Rice Research Institute and the Wageningen University and Research Centre developed the ORYZA model series to simulate growth and development of tropical lowland rice. The first model was ORYZA1 for potential production (Kropff et al, 1994), followed by ORYZA_W for water limited production, and by ORYZA N and ORYZA1N (Mohandass et al. 1995) for nitrogen limited production. It is very important to be fired up of course not all the time but every now and then is fine. It gets your blood pumping and your being energetic so it is healthy for kids to cheer. A benefit of a relational database would be that the data is only stored once. This means you don t have to change multiple records and it doesn t take up much storage space. For the veterinary practise this is ideal for them, as this is the main reason to why they re changing from paper to Microsoft Access. Having everything on Access and not on paper means they can search for information quicker through the search bar and also it can all be stored on a hard drive. This is because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the field size is 70 , that means the user can input up to 70 letters, numbers or symbols. It s important that you change it field size if it s the automatically the appropriate size. This is because if you have a field size of 70, that ll take up 70 bytes of storage, which by itself isn t a lot, but over a massive database that ll take up a lot of room. So for a First Name for example, instead of leaving it as 70, it should be changed to around 10 15. One to One relationship A one to one relationship in a database is where each row in a database is linked with another database. Only one can be linked with another from another table. For example in Table A and Table B, each row in Table has to be linked with another row in Table B. In each of them, they must have the same number of rows, otherwise it won t work. This does make it sound like you could just merge the two tables into one, which in theory is true. But the advantage of having two separate tables is that if you have columns of data that you don t often use then you can separate them into another table. This will make information in the primary table easier to read as it will only have the relevant information in it. One to many relationships A one to many database relationship is where each row in a table can be related to many other rows in another table. • 12. The Firewall Essay The Firewall WHAT IS A NETWORK FIREWALL? A firewall is a system or group of systems that enforces an access control policy between two or more networks. The means by which this control is accomplished varies widely, but in principle, the firewall is a pair of mechanisms, one that blocks traffic and one that permits traffic. Some firewalls emphasize blocking traffic, while others emphasize permitting traffic. The most important thing to recognize about a firewall is that it implements an access control policy. If you don t know what kind of access you want to permit or deny, or you let someone else or some product configure a firewall based on judgment other than yours, that entity is making policy for your whole organization. WHY ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Generally, firewalls are configured to protect against unauthenticated interactive logins from the outside world. This protection, more than anything, helps prevent vandals from logging on to machines on your network. More elaborate firewalls block traffic from the outside to the inside but permit users on the inside to communicate freely with the outside. The firewall can protect you against any type of network borne attack if you unplug it. Firewalls are also important because they are a single point where you can impose security and auditing. If someone attacks a computer system by dialing in with a modem, tracing the perpetrator is impossible. In contrast, the firewall can act as an effective phone tap and tracing tool. Firewalls also provide an important logging and auditing function, summarizing topics such as the kinds and amount of traffic that passed through it and how many attempted break ins occurred recently. WHAT CAN T A FIREWALL PROTECT AGAINST? Firewalls can t protect against attacks that don t go through the firewall. Many corporations that connect to the Internet are very concerned about proprietary data leaking out of the company. Unfortunately, a magnetic tape exports data just as effectively as the Internet. Many organizations whose management is terrified of Internet connections have no coherent policy about protecting dial in access via modems. It s silly to build a steel door six feet thick ... The most common sexual paraphilia is sexual masochism. Women are less likely to be diagnosed with his disorder. Disorders can occur regardless of ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and sexual orientation (301). It is important to note that certain terms are not scientific, but rather reflects the moral beliefs of the culture. For example, Nymphomania is defined as abnormal or excessive sexual desire in a woman (301). There are noncoercive paraphilias which are considered harmless and victimless. It is an immensely great feeling that occurs once you reach it. We all have our favorite places to visit. What makes your favorite city so great? All of the best cities in Michigan should have certain characteristics to be considered the best. Most favorable cities in Michigan all have the quality of a dedicated lighthouse and pier. For example, in the city of Port Austin, Michigan there is a towering lighthouse at the end of a long pier that stretches out into Lake Huron. It is a tremendous feeling walking for a couple of minutes and reaching the end of the pier. The feeling is quite breathtaking to look at the clear blue water with a snappy breeze blowing. The whole experience of walking for a couple of minutes to make it to the lighthouse is why Port Austin is such a fantastic destination. Another example of an outstanding city with a lighthouse is Charlevoix, Michigan. Charlevoix is up north near the top of the mitten. There is a small lighthouse on a small pier that opens the sizable Lake Charlevoix into Lake Michigan. One of the best things to do in the summer is jumping off of the Charlevoix lighthouse pier into the crisp water of lake Michigan. Lucy was named as such after the Beatles song Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds , as it had been playing in the expedition camp. Using a famous song to name the skeleton increased public awareness of early humans and evolution studies. Donald Johanson s discovery allowed researchers a much better understanding of what australopithecus afarensis looked like. 2. This makes sense as the root of the word paleoanthropologist is the Greek palaeos (old/ancient), and anthrōpos (man). As such, paleontologist is a person who studies ancient man, which would cover both early humans and early civilizations. 3. (B) The recognizable remains of a plant or animal are known as fossils. The society needs to allow people the needed time to work and perform plays as well as educate them enough to be able to write the plays. Athens was a society that based itself off of education. • 22. Mccandless, Mccandless And Thoreau Similar to Thoreau, McCandless does not associate being in solitude to being lonesome. Throughout his journey, McCandless avoids forming close bonds with others because it distracts him from his final goal of independence and transcendentalism. This lack of intimate relationships frees McCandless as seen through the journal entry he wrote before walking into the Alaskan Bush. He writes proudly that for two years he has roamed with no company and no comforts. He calls it, Ultimate freedom (Krakauer 163). The fact that he considers it more of a freedom than a loss to live in solidarity shows that like Thoreau, McCandless does not feel lonely when he is alone. According to his sister, Carine, even when he was younger, he was fine with being alone. She said that although he had friends, he could easily entertain himself and never seemed lonely when he was alone. Another instance in which McCandless s dissociation of solitude and loneliness shows is in a letter he writes to Ron Franz, a man he met near Salton City. In this letter, he tells Franz to step outside his comfort zone and live a more adventurous life. Towards the end of the letter, he states, You are wrong if you think Joy emanates only or principally from human relationships, (Krakauer 57). This approach is how he is not lonely in solitude; he is capable of finding joy in things other than human contact. Thoreau lived as a minimalist to strip away the distractions of life. Eight Amendment Pros And Cons Although all citizens are protected the by the United States Constitution, minors are categorized as a special group; preventing them from making decisions without their guardian s consent. Contrarily, in some states, if Wendy establishes her independence from her parents or at least is able to demonstrate a high level of maturity, she may be allowed to dictate her medical treatment (Mernikoff, 2001). Initially, I dismissed the idea of minors controlling their medical treatment. My reasoning stemmed from the potential consequences that may result as many other minors will insist on ending their life prematurely. However, after taking the Eighth Amendment (Cruel and Unusual Punishment) into serious consideration, there should be exceptions made in situations similar to Wendys . • 30. William Shakespeare s Beowulf Essay Tuttle 1 Beowulf Unfit to be King of the Geats For 1000 years we have been reading of the adventures of Beowulf, and his story was told for hundreds of years before. The tale is full of trials, tribulations, adventure, great loss, great victory, and wonderful battles. But, what do we make of it? Is it a tale told to illustrate the virtues of the epic hero himself, or is it a cautionary tale, told to warn the readers of the dangers of allowing unqualified men (or women) to ascend to a position of leadership and the inevitable results of such an event? The author of Beowulf takes great care to describe the hero in detail, and we, as readers, learn about his abundant courage and strength. We are taken on a tour through his early struggles, his successes against the great monster Grendel and Grendel s mother, and his ultimate demise during his battle with a dragon. But one needs to analyze the unstated theme in order to fully appreciate the effect that Beowulf has had on readers for generations. Stanley Greenfield, in his article Beowulf and Epic Tragedy writes that, in the end, For all of Beowulf s efforts, he is reaped only with useless gold, for a nation soon to perish (104). This is representative of the core issue at hand in this epic. Beowulf is unfit to be a great king, despite his physical prowess. Because of his early and continuing history of foolishly taking unnecessary risks, his excessive pride and lack of humility, the diminishing quality of his personal ...
