Psychotropic Medications
Background
Pro re nata is a Latin phrase meaning for an unforseen need or contingency . 1 The most common
type of PRN medication administered by mental health professionals in acute mental health care
settings are psychotropic medications. Psychotropic comes from the Greek word Psycho, a
combining form meaning psyche , which indicates the mind, soul or spirit as opposed to the body
and from the Greek word tropo or tropos which means turning . Hence what turns the mind.1
Psychotropic medications affect chemical levels in the brain, which can affect mood, perception
and behavior.1
When a physician writes an order for PRN medication, they write orders for one or more
psychotropic medications to be given at the discretion of the nurse, provided ... Show more content

The aim of this systematic review is to provide a deeper understanding of the circumstances and
factors that influence a mental health professional and their use of PRN medication. More
specifically:
Do they make these decisions solely or seek input from others?
Do they feel confident in their own decision making when administering PRN medications?
What medication do they choose if there is a choice between two or more PRN medications?
What dosage and what route of administration do nurses use and why?
This systematic review will endeavour to find evidence for the use of PRN medications by mental
health professionals including the clinical decision making process when administering PRN
medication. In addition, this review will endeavour to find evidence for patients understanding and
viewpoints on the use of PRN

The Brain And Its Effects On Human Brain
The brain has four main structures; the Cerebrum, Cerebellum, Limbic System, and the Brain
Stem. The Cerebrum, also known as the Cerebral Cortex, is the largest part of the human brain. It
is divided into four parts that are called lobes : there s the frontal lobe which is linked with
reasoning, planning, parts of speech, emotions, and problem solving the parietal lobe which is
linked to movement, orientation, and recognitions the occipital lobe which is linked to visual
processing like object and spatial recognition, and the fourth one which is the temporal lobe that is
linked to the perception and recognition of memory, speech, and sounds. The Cerebellum, also
known as the little brain, is linked to coordination, movement, posture, and balance. The limbic
system usually referred to as the emotional brain is located inside the cerebrumand it is tied onto
our emotions and more importantly, our survival mode. Lastly, there is the brain stem that is in
charge of basic life functions like breathings, our heart beating, and blood pressure. All of these
four brain functions have key important roles on our everyday lives, but is there anything that can
affect them? The brain happens to actually be affected by many things, either from accidents, or
emotional pain that leads to depression, the brain grows differently depending on its external
stimuli, and a great example of this would be music.
Music activates many parts of our brain that not only affect our movement,

Essay about Immigration in the US
They are willing to sell themselves in order to find a better life for themselves or
to have money to send back home, or to make sure their children are raised in a better
county. (Bell 1). For decades, beautiful Russian and Asian women have been seen in
catalogs as mail order brides. Although the mail order bride industry promises American
men a beautiful, obedient, foreign wife, it fails to mention the negative atmosphere
included within these situations. Mail order brides should be banned in the United States
in order to reduce the increase of domestic violence amongst women (Chittenden 5), the
testing of a bride s selflessness (Bell 1), and internet scams (Internet Relationships 1).

If Petitioning for an Alien Relative is granted, the couple is given a conditional
visa and must remain as a married couple. Only then are they allowed to apply for the
conditionality to be removed. The Fiance Visa, however, requires the bride and groom to
wed in the U.S and only then can the husband file a petition with the INS. The visa s
condition is that the couple must have met in person at least once within two years
preceding filing the visa. If so, the bride is given ninety days to travel to the U.S. and
marry the man she is engaged to. If the marriage does not take place within the ninety
day period, then the bride is returned home. The Fiance Visa gives the couple the
freedom to cancel at the last minute. (Chittenden 8).
After immigration documents are finalized, the newly weds begin their new lives.
However, having a happily ever after is not always the case. In fact, because the
immigrant bride is unfamiliar with her new country, she is forced to learn and get used to
her new home, making her absolutely vulnerable to her American husband. As the
months progress, the bride s intake of education in American customs and society result
in a stronger, more independent woman. Most men that participate in the mail order
industry, expect a submissive and obedient wife. With the newly gained

Healthcare Risk Management ( Hrm )
Healthcare risk management ( HRM) began in the late 1970s when hospitals are facing a
malpractice crisis (Kavaler Alexander, 2014). According to Kavaler and Alexander (2014), it is
estimated more than 140,000 Americans die from medical errors and the cost ranges between $17
billion and $29 billion each year in the United States (Kavaler Alexander, 2014). In this essay, the
student will explain a healthcare risk managementprogram, evaluate the program for compliance
with the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM), and Examine the
administrative process of management the risk program.
The HRM is described as a systematic attempt to recognize, evaluate, and decrease the risk for
patients, visitors, staff, and institutional assets. In another word, The HRM is a program created to
reduce the incidence of preventable events and injuries to decrease the financial loss to the
organization institution should cause an injury or accident occurs (Kavaler Alexander, 2014). The
ASHRM, which is organized by the American Hospital Association, establishes four steps method
to achieve the objective. The steps are 1. Risk identification. 2. Risk analysis. 3. Risk treatment
which includes Risk control and Risk financing. 4. Evaluation of risk treatment strategies (Effective
Health Care Risk Management Programs. n.d.). According to Kavaler and Alexander ( 2014), Risk
identification involves the gathering of data about present and prior patient care occurrences and

Elon Musk
Humans have sailed the roughest of the seven seas and scaled the highest of mountains on
Earth. Dubbed as the final frontier colloquially and by the popular science fiction movie series
Star Trek, space and our colonization of extraterrestrial bodies are accepted as the next
challenges in our natural progression of exploration as a species. In a 1983 lecture titled Our
Future In The Cosmos Space given at The College of William Mary, writer and professor Isaac
Asimov candidly states: Unless we are willing to settle down into a world that is our prison, we
must be ready to move beyond Earth.
Within the concept design of the interplanetary transport system, there is a woman, whose back
is facing towards the camera, levitating in front of a large glass panel. Before her lies a massive
red orange terrestrial body with a bright, rising sun behind it. The massive red orange terrestrial
body is the planet Mars. This is the life SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has proposed to the world.

Sartre, on multiple occasions, was recorded saying that his views nor his philosophies are
metaphysical in any sense. This is the way in which he sets the foundations for his arguments,
giving them more of a sense of logic and an appeal to reason. That notwithstanding, metaphysics is
defined by Merriam Webster as a division of philosophythat is concerned with the fundamental
nature of reality and ontology. Sartre s argument is that in the essence of free will being the part of
the human experience where humans effectively breach the nature of reality and ontology and go
against their given circumstances with their own free will, it is impossible for it to be in and of
itself the nature of reality. Posing the question of whether free will is not merely a part of human
nature, but something special humans have come up

Elizabeth Cady Stanton And The Women s Rights Movement
The freedom for women to have equal rights is simply the fact that women deserve and have the
right to be equal to their male counterparts. The definition may be simple, but the right is
extremely complex in all dimensions. Countless women and men have fought and been persecuted
for women to be where they are today, but they have a long road ahead of them. The sex in which
they are born should not affect what they can do or what society thinks they can do. They will and
must stand up for their rights. Elizabeth Cady Stantonhad an enormous impact on the Women s
Rights Movement. She was born in 1815 in Johnstown, New York and died in 1902. During her
lifetime she led the National Women s Suffrage Movement from 1869 1890 and coedited a feminist

When Does Fair Use Become Theft and Viceversa
Who really owns ideas, and how long should they hold them? When does Fair Use become Theft
and vice versa?
Those are the question raised in Brett Gaylor s documentary RiP: A Remix Manifesto, raises alarms
for those who think copyright holders have become too aggressive about protecting their
intellectual property.
The documentary highlights the popular music artist known as Girl Talk. Girl Talk consists of
one man named Gregg Gillis and he takes parts from different songs (usually popular ones) and
creates new music of his own. He doesn t use any of his own materials at all. A lot of people
consider his work stealing and what is known as Copyright infringement; even though he changes
the music so much, you can t even tell what all of the songs he uses are. Girl Talk is known as a
mash up artist, and according to the documentary, mash up artists have stirred up quite a
controversy with both the Copyright Company and the other artists they take their material from.
Copyright problems arose with the advent of the free availability of information on the Internet. It
was easy for people to steal music, movies and images from the internet and use them to create their
own mash up piece. Prior to the internet copyrighting actually encouraged creativity. Once music
sharing websites like Napster began, musicians and other artists began suing and copyright laws
became more rigouous in their scope and enforcement.

The Importance Of Safe Sex In America
The reason why high risk sex still occurs among the well educated reasonably affluent Americans
is because in the heat of the moment they tend not to think about it. It s more that they think about
the lust and passion they re having for the other person that is distracting their mind even if they
re knowledgeable on the subject of safe sex. I believe that people should really focus on protecting
themselves from diseases by keeping protection always on you if you feel that it s likely that you
will end up in a eventful night that day. Education plays a huge role in educating children around
their teen years and above about how they can protect themselves from sexual transmitted diseases,
and what they are. Studies has shown that a well implemented

A Child With Developmental Delays
When Mia was only two years old, her parents noticed that she was not up to speed with other
children her age. This discovery led her to the genetics department at A.I. DuPont Children s
Hospital. For a child with developmental delays, I only saw that she lit up the room with her
energy and friendly nature, which made me fall in love with her as she explored the room. While
the counselor consulted her parents, Mia continued to come up to me and grab my hands,
something that she apparently did quite frequently. During the appointment, her mother began to
cry, worried that she may have inadvertently caused Mia s condition during pregnancy. Her father
had concerns that his first child may never be able to live a normal life and have children of her
own. The counselor eased the parents concerns by educating them on her syndrome and basic
genetics as well as getting them in contact with a support group for children with the same
syndrome. Mia and her family went home well informed and in good spirits despite the devastating
news they received. This family is a prime example of the benefits of genetic counseling, and why
patient care is crucial in the profession.
That experience drew me into genetic counseling, a profession that I did not know existed a year
prior. I entered college with the mentality of becoming an engineer due to my interest in science,
my fondness of problem solving, and the desire to help others. After I changed my major to
neuroscience and gained experience

A History of Beauty in Gender and Sexuality Writings
Discuss what you think the sources tell us about beauty s place in the history of gender and
sexuality. Consider as well the historical evidence you have about efforts to enhance beauty through
adornment or other alterations of appearance.
The concept of beauty is one of the more intriguing and important concepts in the study of gender
and sexuality. Beauty has held a prominent role in shaping people s personal lives and by
extension, the lives of society and humanity at large in both positive and negative fashions. Charles

Charles Darwin s Descent of Man and Selection in Relation to Sex (1871), Sigmund Freud s

Young Törless (1906) served to illustrate concepts of aesthetic beauty through the presence of
adornment and beautification, the concept of libido theory and its dependence on physical
beauty, and finally the concept of negative beauty, or the consequences of artificial collectivism
and control. Charles Darwin, Sigmund Freud, and Robert Musil all work off of each other and
use the concept of beauty in different ways, but when read in succession these works serve as a
general timeline of gender and sexuality theory. The combined sources of Charles Darwin s
Descent of Man and Selection in Relation to Sex (1871), Sigmund Freud s Three Contributions to
the Theory of Sex (1905), and Robert Musil s The Confusions of a Young Törless (1906) solidify
beauty in all its sense as holding a strong position in the overarching history of gender and sexuality
and are even more interesting to note due to their progressive nature and philosophical intimacy.
These texts stretch across different subjects, time periods, and even authorial regions to explain
how the concept of beauty has contributed to the history of gender and sexuality, and that

Today s Bachelor Degrees Are A Minimum
Assignment 3: Today s Bachelor Degrees are a Minimum Critical Thinking Henry Simoni
Wastila December 16, 2012 The job market and educational institutions are advancing, and
outlooks towards the bachelor s degree are unequivocally showing signs of change. While
various establishments are particularly enticed by experience, dexterities, and attitude, other
establishments unquestionably require postsecondary education from the very beginning. As
the number of individuals obtaining a bachelor s degree skyrockets, the degree becomes more
commonplace (Lawrence, 2012). This phenomenon has prompted employers to slap a Degree
Required or Degree Preferred disclaimer in their job descriptions. Logically, one would have to
pose the question Are today s bachelor s degrees a minimum, like high school degrees were
thirty years ago? Arguments can be made from both sides, but research is necessary to render a
sound conclusion. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, an individual with a bachelor s degree
will earn practically double in salary as opposed to a person with a high school diploma over the
course of their career. When deductive reasoning leads one to ask the question why, three primary
reasons tend to surface. The first reason is the fact that bachelor s degree holders receive higher
starting salaries. Secondly, bachelor s degree holders have an increased probability of earning
potential, which includes but is not limited to raises and promotions.

In The Bedroom Analysis
The short story Killings is written by Andre Dubs which later recreated into a motion picture film
called In the Bedroom by director Todd Field in 2001. Both the short story Killings and the film
In the Bedroom highlights the themes of love and revenge. It shows how far a person would go for
the people they love. The short story was named Killings because it not only focuses on two deaths
but the multiple types of death and different aspects of it. Reading the short story Killings and
watching the film In the BedroomI noticed many differences between the two. For example in the
short story Killings Matt and Ruth had 3 kids and some grandchildren. In the film In the Bedroom
Frank was the only child. I believe the direction Todd Fieldmade this change because he wanted us
to focus on the idea of how painful it to lose a child, and how it can affect the relationship
between the parents. I honestly thought that was really smart of the director to do since it made
us feel how hard it most of been for Matt and Ruth to lose their only child. And how losing Frank
made their love for each other kind of disappear. Another differences between the short story and
the film was that in Killings the story started off at Frank funeral and later flashback of what had
occurred. In the film In the Bedroom the story started from the beginning with Frank and his lover
Natalie running in a field, which kind of made the story plot go in chronological order.

Autoethnographic Writing
Main Post #2
According to Hughes, Pennington, Makris (2012), a criterion for conducting fair and robust
evaluations of autoethnographic writing is its adherence to a logic of inquiry that allows the reader
to trace the path charted, beginning with the initial statement of the problem issue to its
conclusions and applications of data. Conducting impartial research requires ensuring that a
comprehensible illustration of procedures employed is presented for evaluation. It also requires a
blueprint for research design and development, analytic and construal of data collected, deductions,
and inferences that substantiate or refute theories.
Another criterion for conducting fair and robust evaluations of autoethnographic writing requires
transparency of the report submission. Hughes, Pennington, and Makris (2012) assert that
researchers must be clear in the rationale driving the investigation as well as the actions taken
beginning with the initial concern or interest. According to Adams et al. (2013), the researcher must
present clear and coherent explanations regarding methods and systems employed throughout the
research process. Transparency ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R....
The first habit listed by Stephen R. Covey, is to be proactive. He breaks down the word to create
a simple reference, response able means understanding that you are accountable for your life.
Your behaviors are determined by you. Viktor Frankl was placed into a Jewish concentration
camp during WWII; he endured great misfortune during this period of his life. To cope with the
experience he envisioned himself simply watching the catastrophic torture he would endure in
an out of body type of experience. He discovered, between stimulus and response, man was free
to choose, by this he meant he could escape the torture by realizing that he was in control of his
own behaviors, not in his physical state but his mental state. By having control of himself he did
not fall prey to reactive tendencies. The referenced statement would be considered false; Covey
believes that people are responsible for their own actions and behaviors. To rebound the blame is
merely what he refers to as a reactive person that uses their physical environment to dismiss their
own irresponsible behaviors. In doing this the person essentially becomes part of the problem,
instead of the solution. This statement would also fall into the circle of concern as it refers to the
actions of how others are impacting your life. This area is how reactive individuals may choose to
let people affect their life. Leadership and management as explained by Covey are quite different.
The meaning of leadership is the

The Conflict Between The Middle East And Christianity
The world now is facing a set of significant problems. I believe that there are three main
International threats to global stability, the rapid rise of extremism, international disputes over
territories, and corruption. Solutions to these issues facing humankind are compulsory to avoid
some expected consequence. No more than two years ago people thought of Osama bin Laden
and al Qaeda organisation if we mentioned the nightmare, extremism. Instead, nowadays the new

Firstly, here are some ambitious events showing that ISIS is threatening the world security and
order. On November 13th, 2015, the Islamic State killed more than 100 people at several
locations in Paris. On October 31st, 2015, 224 people died when a Russian jetliner crashes after
leaving Egypt s Sinai Peninsula, and ISIS claimed their responsibility. On March 20th, 2015,
137 death were caused by suicide bombers attack two mosques in Yemen. Except the casualty,
their violence behaviours also aroused fear and chaos across the world. As a result, these terror
attacks had changed the way of our lives. According to Hedley Bull (1995), one of the most
fundamental goals of the anarchical society is upholding the independence of member states,
maintaining peace, and helping to secure the normative foundations of all social life, which
includes the limitation of violence (Jackson, 2013). To save the world basic human values,
security, order and justice, those countries in power must weaken if not topple these dangerous
radicals from their pedestals. The United States need to start a legal battle as the state is supposed
to ensure the value of security and protect their citizens. Other than that, another solution for the
extremism is to wait until either the world vital energy is not petrol oil anymore, or the oil

Nursing leadership competency is a very important to me as an employee, it can mean the
difference between having a chaotic or smooth workday. It is the responsibility of the manager to

essential for a leader when implementing changes and dealing with subordinates working toward a

several months of planning and collaborating with the builders of the system and receiving input

addition to online access to practice. Physicians were also given scribes to assist with a smooth

minimal disruptions to the ER flow. I continued to teach the EMR class to new arrivals and

Research Paper On Social Darwinism
Introduction
Social Darwinism is a quasi philosophical, quasi religious, quasi sociological view that came from
the mind of Herbert Spencer, an English philosopher in the 19th century. It did not achieve wide
acceptance in England or Europe, but flourished in this country, as is true of many ideologies,
religions, and philosophies. A good summary of Social Darwinismis by Johnson:
In these years, when Darwin s Origin of Species, popularized by Herbert Spencer as quot;the
survival of the fittest, quot; and applied to races as well as species in a vulgarized form, Social
Darwinism, the coming Christian triumph was presented as an Anglo Saxon Protestant one.

(That is, they were not of the same kind, type or variety.)
What this seemed to mean to Darwin was biological evolution. Organisms better suited to their
environment gained some survival advantage and passed their genetically transmitted
advantages to their offsprings. Darwin thought that this process was extremely slow and even.
In fact, we became aware that it is neither slow nor even: there are examples of a good deal of
change in a short period of time; and there are examples of very little change over a long period
of time. Nor did Darwin understand the mechanism by which the transmission took place. This was
to be figured out by Gregor Mendel, Thomas Hunt Morgan, DeVries and in our own time, Watson
and Crick who deduced the spiral shape of the DNA molecule.
Darwin s discoveries struck his native England, as well as Europe, and this country with an
enormous impact. They ran into total conflict with the idea of special creation, which one can find
in the Book of Genesis, especially Chapter I and II. The emotional impact of Darwin s discoveries
have not abated.
The Misapplication of a Biological Theory
But, for our purposes, it is the use to which some people made of biological evolution which
concerns us. Some simplified the idea to quot;survival of the fittest. quot; Others believed that an
identical process took place among human beings. They believed that white Protestant Europeans
had evolved

How Did The Middle Class Affect 16th Century England
Even though English society was hierarchical, it was easy to move up or down from one

done a most improper and un princely thing. (page 31) Right before feeling uncomfortable, Tom
Canty had put several nuts into his pockets and quickly realized that the act wasn t prince like at
all. Tom realized that high class people don t do anything for themselves. This proves that farmers,
merchants, and craftsmen can t be part of the high class. Wealthy merchants and citizens of
England s large towns were at the same level with yeomen or gentlemen. The wealthiest and most
important merchants were London s international businessmen, who imported high value items
from Europe and other places. Below yeomen were husbandmen, farmers for themselves and
making enough to feed their family while selling some at the market. Husbandmen would be
forced to work for others during bad harvest years. They would have an income of around 3 euros
after paying all their expenses during good years. Below husbandmen were laborers and cottagers
because they had to work for others to get wages. Consequently, merchants, farmers, and craftsmen

Essay on Weapons Used in World War II
World War II is one of the most recognized battles in the history of the world. The battle originated
with Germany s invasion of Poland. This sparked the beginning of the war, though the United
States was not yet involved. The U.S. came into the picture after the attack on Pearl Harbor on the
morning of December 7, 1941. Though Japan was the more direct opponent , the United States
Army Rangers, Marine Corps., and every other branch of military took on Japan and Germany.
Fighting on the Frontlines One of the more famous battles in the war was the Invasion of
Normandy, France by the Allied forces, also known as Operation Overlord . The arriving troops

This weapon was typically on a tripod to steady the bouncing that came with automatic fire. One
of the more unpredictable attacks came from the Arisaka Bolt Action Rifle. Rifles were
recognized in WWII for their long range and accuracy. This gun could be used with or without a
scope. When scoped, range was greatly increased, as the shooter could see farther distances and
put a round down range with precision. Though this wasn t the primary weapon for most of the
soldiers, it was favored by snipers for its precision at long ranges.
Weapons of Destruction
American soldiers were using fairly new weapons compared to previous conflicts. The fully
automatic assault rifle was new addition to the American arsenal. A prime example of the sheer
power and deadliness of an automatic rifle is the M1918BAR (Browning Automatic Rifle). This
gun was the first of it s kind for American forces. Though it was a bit heavy, it had stopping
power. It blasted the .30 06 Springfield round down range at 2,822 f/s. Although the iron sights
weren t all that great, the aperture view did the job quite well for targets that were a little ways
out. Due to the success of this weapon, Browning set out to create a better, stronger version of it
for heavier combat. The M1919 Browning Heavy Machinegun was deployed. This monster of a
gun was usable without a bipod, but heavy and hard to aim without. With a 600 round per minute
rate of fire from a direct feed belt, the Browning was one of the

The Prevalence of Depression after Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery Coronary Artery Bypass
Graft (CABG) surgery is a widely used surgical procedure for the relief of symptoms of Coronary
Artery Disease (Bagielia, Connerney, McLaughlin, Shapiro, Sloan, 2001, p. 1766). Coronary Artery
Disease is the narrowing of the blood vessels that supply oxygen and nutrients to the heart
muscles. The buildup of fatty material within the walls of the arteries causes cardiac diseases
(Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery,, 2010) .To resolve this issue, surgeons take veins and arteries
from elsewhere in the patient s body. Then, surgeons graft the veins and arteries to the coronary
arteries to bypass the atherosclerotic narrowing and improve the blood supply to the heart muscles
(Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery,, 2010). This procedure increases the blood flow to the heart by
giving the blood a new route around the diseased or clogged artery (Bagielia, Connerney,
McLaughlin, Shapiro, Sloan, 2001).
Coronary Artery Bypass Graft surgery is predominately effective in reducing the symptoms of
cardiac disease. Despite that fact, research has shown ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Englishmen and Colonization in the Seventeenth Century Essay
Perception, understanding and judgment of humankind were far backward in the sixteenth
century. The English Empire was a huge colonial power in that era. They were discovering the
places that have never touched by so called fair skinned people. English voyagers were able to
reach the shores of West Africa after 1550. Until seventeenth century English colonials did not
develop a slave trade. These small number of people set up an organized settlement in the foreign
land. They were also able to keep their own laws and language. At Kormantin in 1631 Englishmen
had their first settlement in Africa. According to Jordan, it was the meeting of Englishmen and

African man meant a black man to English invaders. They described Negroes as black. These
northern people were specialist about defining people. They simply emphasized the difference
of complexion. Being other than white skin should have meant sign of inferiority. Literature of
antiquity and the Middle Ages actually offered introduction to the Ethiope. Englishmen were
acquainted with black skinned people before than sixteenth century. Native West Africans hit
the ground of London in 1554. Five Negroes were taken to English land to learn the language

more than stating the color of people. It has a deep meaning. In England, the concept of
blackness had an intense meaning. According to Oxford English Dictionary, the meaning of

It was the white color. White color was defined as a symbol of all superior things. These colors

Globalism and the Growth of Income Disparity
Globalism refers to connectedness and communication networks that span continents and bring the
world s people closer together, and globalization refers to how globalism increases or decreases.
Digital technology has increased globalism, global marketing and business opportunities, but this
growth doesn t mean that everyone gets a share of the wealth. There has been a growing gap
between the richest and poorest people that only seems to increase as globalism generates more
opportunities. The top fifth of U.S. households, for example, own 84 percent of the nation s wealth
while the bottom two fifths only own 0.3 percent of the country s wealth according to the a href=

Essay On The Future Of The Energy Industry
What is the future of the energy industry in Canada? A big uncertainty that arises for the energy
industry in Canada surrounds the new U.S. administration. According to National Resources
Canada, Canada currently exports 99% of its oil and gas to the U.S. (2017a). If Trump were to
revise the current NAFTA agreement, and impose a tax on imports to the U.S. from Canada, it
could result in Canada losing a major partner, and cause the economy to take a hit. As mentioned,
President Trump is in support of the Keystone XL pipeline, however, that then also comes under
scrutiny for how much of the profit would Trump expect. As of November 2017, the Keystone XL
pipeline is approved, but on an alternative route, and it still faces challenges. If... Show more

However, emissions per barrel of oil produced in the oil sands have fallen over 35% since 1990,
(Government of Canada, 2017a). It is good that Canada is taking steps to reduce their carbon
footprint, but the future of Canada as a member of the Paris Agreement is uncertain if Canada does
not take more tangible steps to reduce the production and emission of greenhouse gases. What is
Suncor s Future? Based on the challenges identified, and the way that Suncor approaches these
challenges, the future looks bright for Suncor. As the case study points out, water use is an
environmental issue that requires careful management (Vietor, 2016, p.7). The major oil producing
companies were taking measures to reduce the amount of fresh water they were withdrawing from
the Athabasca River, and the Canadian government had restricted withdrawals to 5.2% of the river
s median flow (Vietor, 2016, p.7). In 2015, Suncor more than exceeded their goal of reducing their
water usage. The government regulated that they could use 59.8 million cubic meters annually,
however, their 2014 usage was only 18.65 million cubic meters, (Vietor, 2016 p.12). This
demonstrates that Suncor is on track to meet national demands and constraints placed on the energy
industry. As they are ahead of the game in this regard, they set precedence for other oil and gas
companies in the industry, and this action encourages them to reduce their own water consumption
in the future. As Suncor has already achieved

The Tokugawa Period
The Tokugawa era: A country of tranquility With all the struggle the Japanese went though, they
finally were grasping a sense of themselves. This age of curiosity and exploration of a country,
that the world would later know as Japan, was called the Tokugawa period. As a result of their
newfound self, came art and more specifically, woodblock prints. These woodblock prints are
significant to the Tokugawa era because they reflected what was going on during that period,
including: what was currently happening, how the people viewed the world, and what new
discoveries were made. During the Tokugawa era, the woodblock prints show that this was a time
of peace because of the often travel, economic growth and significance of nature. The beautiful...

There is also travel, if not, more than the woodblock Okitsu shows. The boats show that great
masses of people travel on those boats and are fishing. These clues tell a story of a country that
is curious to find answers, without having to worry about any threats or dangers. They are
comfortable. Furthermore, Tsukudajima displays a time of peace because of the economic
growth and beauty nature held over the people. These boats suggest that there are goods being
imported and exported and Japan is earning money, therefore an economy is growing. Moreover,
the beauty of Tsukudajima s starry night, almond eye moon, and colorful sky sitting on the
horizon indicates that nature holds a power over the artists. Since the moon looks like the shape
of an almond eye, the artist probably sees the moon as a guardian, which suggests that the people
praised nature. Likewise, the starry night adds a feeling of comfort and happiness. A tiny village
is resting upon the water and there are no flames or fighting. Finally, the colorful gradient end of a

The Issue of Compensation and Its Repercussions on Society
A very contentious issue arising within public domain is that of compensation and its
repercussions on overall society. Over the past 3 decades executive compensation has ballooned
while the average worker continues to see only modest gains in income. The average annual
earnings of the top 1 percent of wage earners grew 156 percent from 1979 to 2007; for the top
0.1 percent they grew 362 percent (Kaplan, 2012). In contrast, earners in the 90th to 95th
percentiles had wage growth of 34 percent, less than a tenth as much as those in the top 0.1
percent tier. Workers in the bottom 90 percent had the weakest wage growth, at 17 percent from
1979 to 2007. If inflation averaged just 2% a year over this period, the gains of the bottom 90%
would be negative. In 2007, average annual incomes of the top 1 percent of households were 42
times greater than incomes of the bottom 90 percent, and incomes of the top 0.1 percent were 220
times greater. This is an increase of 1400% and 4700% respectively since 1979. These statistics do
not bode well for the health care industry which is currently undergoing immense change. With the
healthcare reform currently underway, many changes will be made to entitlements and overall
compensation. Entry level workers in particular will have a fundamentally different compensation
package then prior generations. Due primarily to a combination of excessive spending, deficit
reductions, and an aging population, alterations to compensation will occur. The extent

What practices are currently in place? At the MCIU, Dr. Donna Gaffney, Director of Professional
Learning is charged with designing and implementing a teacher induction program for all staff
including both teaching and non teaching professionals. During an employee s first year of service,
he or she must attend five orientation meetings, three of which are with the whole organization and
two of which are department specific. This allows trainings to target the direct needs of the new

In additional to induction meetings, a well established mentorship program is at work for MCIU

receiving training and being approved by Dr. Gaffney, mentors are linked new employees by

The Origins of Voodoo Essay
The Origins of Voodoo Voodoo is a religion rich in heritage and founded in faith and community.
The religion has been villainized by western culture and has been wrongly portrayed as
malignant and dangerous. The religion is not founded in any of the (known) black magics or fear
popularized by Hollywood films, but rather it is based on balance and tradition. The religion is
not something that should be encountered with inhibition or fear induced from childhood horror
stories, but embraced for its strength and history. Voodoo originated as an amalgam of African
religions during the slave trade. As slaves were shipped from Africa to the Caribbean, groups of
slaves sharing a similar heritage were broken apart to prevent any sense of... Show more content on

In the three centuries of religious oppression, voodoo became a symbol of pride and
independence for the slaves. Any pride in a slave is, of course, regarded as a threat to the slave
owner. Rumors of human sacrifice and devil worship became prevalent in the social circles of
plantation owners and slave traders. These statements had no validity, but traveled quickly
throughout the Caribbean and America. The practitioners of voodoo embraced this fear as
means to frighten their former masters and gain some respect in a world where they were
deprived of everything. Former slave owners quickly found themselves duped into the beliefs of
voodoo dolls and hexes. Of course, many slave owners simply killed their slaves rather than be
frightened by the voodoo. The practice itself is not actually frightening or powerful in any way,
but that doesn?t matter to superstitious folks like those in Salem. No historical evidence of
human sacrifice or affiliation with Satan has been discovered (Voodoo), or likely ever will be.
Primary religions involved in the African aspect of voodoo are Macumba and Candomble of the
Yoruba people of Nigeria, and several now extinct tribes from the Congos and Cameroon. These
religions lay the groundwork for the course of religious ceremonies and contain the origins for the
deities worshipped in modern voodoo. Voodoo?s principle deity, Olorun is the voodoo equivalent to
God. Though the name can be traced to the Yoruba tribe, it is unknown if

The Holy Spirit
The earliest title for the book of Acts seems to have been simply The Acts . Some have
suggested, however, that it does not mean the acts of the apostles, but the acts of the Holy Spirit
instead. Such a conclusion may seem odd, but a recognition of the importance of the Holy Spirit
in Acts is completely justified. The full title of the book of Acts may be The Acts of the
Apostles , but that title could equally well read The Acts of the Holy Spirit. (Drumwright, Holy
Spirit In The Book Of Acts. ). In the American Standard Version of Acts there are fifty six
references to the Holy Spirit. Comparing that to other portions of the New Testament, the
significance of the Holy Spirit in the book of Acts is clearly seen. The combined sixty eight
chapters of the Synoptic Gospels only have thirty four references to the Holy Spirit. The
combined thirty two chapters of Romans and 1 Corinthians, which are Paul s longest letters,
contain only forty five references to the Holy Spirit. With fifty six references to the Holy Spirit in
its twenty eight chapters, it s justified to call Acts the book of the Spirit (Drumwright, Holy Spirit
In The Book Of Acts. ). The Holy Spirit was promised by Jesusto the apostles as their power in
Luke chapter 24, verse 49. Jesus can give the Spirit to his followers because he has received the
Spirit from the Father (chapter 3 verse 16). In the book of Acts, when the Spirit came on the Day

perspectives alongside with their mentalities. Furthermore, I will highlight the similarities and
differences between the poems, how both poems interact with one another, and what we can
comprehend with both poems that would not be possible if viewed separately. In regards to Judith
Wright s Eve to Her Daughters (992) this poem is coming from a coercion place of female
oppression. Whereas, Robert Brownings Porphyria s Lover (642) coercion place comes from one of
compulsion to enforce his will upon his lover Porphyria.
In Eve to Her Daughters the speaker is Eve and we, as the audience, are her daughters listening
to her story and guidance. The dramatic monologue we thereby envision is all through Eve s
eyes and therefore, we are able to experience what she is experiencing. The casualness of this
poem and with Eve s little jabs regarding Adam, But Adam, you know...! (8) makes it seem as if
Eve is genuinely speaking to us as if we were truly her daughters and that we personally are

Importance of Food Labels
A research done in 2003 by the International Food Information Council Foundation indicated that
many consumers will refer to food labels when deciding which food item to purchase or consume. (
The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. ) Many consumers say that food labels are hard to
observe and read. Food labels objective is mostly to inform consumers about the products
characteristics which actually play an important role in purchasing or the decision making
process of the food item. The government should be more diligent in monitoring the presence of
food labels and the accuracy of their claims given the recent rise of health issues, higher
frequency of food allergies, and increasing population of more aware consumers. Diabetes is a
disease that can lead to heart disease, stroke kidney disease, blindness and dental disease. It is a
disorder in a way the body uses digested food for energy. While there are different types of
diabetes type two diabetes is generally caused by a combination of obesity and physical
inactivity. ( Causes of Diabetes )There is no known medical cure but treatments vary for each
individual but a management strategy is agreed upon between the doctor and patient. In order for
patients to manage diabetes they have to know exactly what they are putting in their body, if food
labels are misleading or incorrect it will cause a medical emergency and in some cases lasting

Human Relations Model Of Management
Introduction
Since the turn of the twentieth century a number of management theories have been introduced
into our society. These theories give insight into the ways in which organisations are run. Different
models of management are adopted depending on whether they rely on adaptability and innovation
for survival or whether their central aim is mass production to keep up with an ever increasing
demand. The two scenarios described would either adopt a scientific management approach or a
human relations model of management. The latter of which will be argued is the most effective
method when an organisation is dependent on innovation and creativity for its survival.
First it is helpful to address what is meant by the term management . ... Show more content on

The principles discussed in his work lay out the foundation for what he believed to be the optimum
procedures for creating a highly productive and efficient working environment. However, Taylor
does not give a clear description of what is meant by the term scientific management . Another
writer on the subject, Robert F Hoxie provides this definition:
Scientific management is a system devised by industrial engineers for the purpose of serving the
common interests of employers, workmen and society at large through the elimination of avoidable
wastes, the general improvement of the processes and methods of production, and the just and
scientific distribution of the product (Hoxie, 1915:140).
As we can see from the definition given, the underlying theme of this model of management is
industrial efficiency. Taylor s goal was to introduce a model that would increase output and
decrease waste.
One way in which Taylor foreseen greater efficiency within the workplace was through the
introduction of standardisation. Taylor (1911: 140) explained in his book:
science over rule of thumb; harmony, not discord; cooperation, not individualism; maximum output,
in place of restricted output; and the development of each man to his greatest efficiency and
prosperity.
cooperation not individualism from this statement alone we can see that there

I remember when I first came to nova for shark preview, I saw advertisements posters for their
upcoming events. This memory always stuck with me as I attend nova. I chose this club to
cover for the project because I thought it would be interesting and much different compared to
my high school experience. I attended the interest meeting on September 13, 2016 during the
lunch break hour. I arrived a bit late and the meeting started. They were introducing the different
officers and their positions and responsibilities. The meeting then proceeded with information on
how to join and different volunteer events they participate. For example, they take part in
volunteering at the children s hospital as a group and also help tutor students at the elementary
school as well. At the end of the meeting they notified the new club members of possible open
leadership positions in the club. I spoke with one of the club officers promptly after the meeting
about the leadership position and I also told her my interests in the club. After I grabbed a few
bagels and walked out with a potential club member as we introduced ourselves and discussed our
interests in the club. My overall experience with the club is very positive. The interest meeting

The Student Athlete Association and Subsidized Payment of...
Position Statement
It is the position of the SAA that all college student athletes begin and remain amateur athletes while
attending college. Payment for college athletes should be scholarships that can include tuition,
books, dorm accommodations, meal on campus or while traveling. Anything above this should be
considered subsidized and is considered in violation of the SAA s governing body.
Introduction
The SAA (Student Athletic Association) is an organization that was developed to protect and keep

Television was now involved and issues with recruiting and financial aid where taking on a life
of their own. It seemed that the SAA needed a full time staff just to deal with the complexity of
these problems. In 1952 the SAA was created as we know it today to deal with these complex
issues. Women s Athletics were introduced in 1980, when Divisions II and III established 10
championships for 1981 82. A year later, the historic 75th Convention adopted an extensive
governance plan to include women s athletics programs, services and representation. (Crowley,
2006)
Discussion
What has happened to the idea of attending college for the sake of an education and playing a
sport that is loved by the athlete to help offset the cost of a college education? That simple
thought seems to be lost as of late as college sports have become a stepping stone for anyone
wanting to play a professional sport. The current dilemma in college athletics is weather to pay,
especially football and basketball athletes extra money while attending college. There has been
much discussion and rational on the subject over the last few years. According to James H.
Humphrey, Stress in College Athletics there are 5 causes of stress among college athletes. 1.
Academic Problems, 2.Athletic demands, 3. Time 4. Relationships with others, 5. Finances

Gatsby Women
The simple life of the Gatsby women I m p paralyzed with happiness is just one of the
stereotypes of a woman in the 1920 s. In Scott F. Fitzgerald s, The Great Gatsby, there is an often
ignored view of the women s perspective. It brings attention to how women have no
expectations to go far in life, or have a reason for life besides, to reproduce. The absurd thing is
that the women don t have any interest to break out of the stereotype, and try to make a life for
themselves. Throughout the story, Daisy Buchanan, Jordan Baker, and Myrtle Wilson are treated
as possessions rather than humans. The female character first mentioned is Daisy, a perfect
example of a woman in the 1920 s. She is married to Tom, and has a daughter Pammy, who doesn t
have a job, and is very flirtatious. In The Great Gatsby, Daisy has always been in the upper class
so to speak, so she doesn t know what it is like to not get her way, and has never settled for
anything less. When she sees Gatsby s shirts, Daisy says They re such beautiful shirts, she
sobbed, her voice muffled in the thick folds. It makes me sad because I ve never seen such such
beautiful shirts before. (Fitzgerald,118). What is meant by Daisy crying over the shirts, is that it
shows that she has finally found a lifestyle that is greater than her current one. It makes her sad
when she sees the shirts because she knows that it s a lifestyle that she has always wanted, but has
never had the chance to have until this point, so she is upset, because she knows that she would be
risking everything if she chose this life. It also shows, that women can be overdramatic in situations
that should have little to no effect on a male.
In addition, Daisy also believes it is better to be dumb than to be knowledgeable as a woman.
Growing up Daisy had come from a wealthy family, and has never known poverty. She says in
chapter 5 All right, I said, I m glad it s a girl. And I hope she ll be a fool that s the best thing a
girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool. (118). She hopes this is for her daughter because
she believes if you don t confront the issue, everything will be the same, and nothing will change.
Daisy herself is being cheated on by Tom, her

Abstract
Qualitative data such as Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) are under constant scrutiny
by Quantitative researchers looking for legitimacy. Elliot et al., 1999, were able to provide this
legitimacy by creating seven key guidelines; owning one s perspective, situating the sample,
grounding in examples, providing credibility checks, coherence, accomplishing general versus

throughout the review of the above titled paper to highlight how these can be applied. The article

Fischer, C, T,. Rennie, D, L,. 1999). Elliot et al. (1999) were such researchers, who were successful
in creating seven key guidelines that can be utilised in any qualitative research. These guidelines are
as follows, owning one s perspective, situating the sample, grounding in examples, providing
credibility checks, coherence, accomplishing general versus specific research tasks and resonating
with the reader. Further detail will be discussed in relation to these guidelines during the following
evaluation. Attention will also be paid to how these guidelines can be applied to IPA analysis.
Main Body
The article, Understanding feelings of anger using IPA (Smith Eatough, 2006), has two key focus
areas. Firstly is the use of IPA. Secondly is the understanding and interpretation of anger as
experienced by the individual. Throughout the article, each section explains how the method, IPA is
utilised. The purpose of the article is to illuminate how ..., anger, emotion related feelings, thoughts
and expressions appear to the individual (Smith Eatough, 2006). They argued that emotions are
more often than not, world focused and proposed that a holistic approach was required to fully
understand this phenomenon. This was studied as a single sample, case study. Data was analysed
using IPA with results showing anger

Haraway’s A Cyborg Manifesto Essay
Donna J. Haraway s A Cyborg Manifesto
Haraway s provocative proposal of envisioning the cyborg as a myth of political identity embodies
the search for a code of displacement of the hierarchical dualisms of naturalized identities (CM,
175), and thus for the breakdown of the logic of phallogocentrism and of the unity of the Western
idealized self.
Haraway defines the cyborg as a cybernetic organism, a hybrid of machine and organism, a creature
of social reality as well as a creature of fiction (CM, 149). Her argument is introduced as an effort
to build an ironic political myth faithful to feminism, socialism, and materialism (CM, 149). She
claims blasphemy and irony as her vantage tools. Blasphemy invokes the seriousness of ... Show

Cyborgs are technological constructs and thus deny the logic of reproduction; they rather mock the
masculinist reproductive dream (CM, 152). They have no memory of a primary state of innocence;
they conceive of no Father s saving through the restoration of a garden they don t recognize the
Garden of Eden in that they do not re member the cosmos (CM, 151). As they build no sense of
community on the model of the organic family, they live outside the oedipal project they are wary
of holism, but needy for connection (CM, 151). Though the offsprings of militarism, patriarchal
capitalism and state socialism, they are illegitimate offsprings and thus unfaithful to their origins.
The late twentieth century scientific culture in the United States has experienced three crucial
boundary breakdowns:
the boundary between human and animal is thoroughly breached the boundary between human and
machine has become leaky and ambiguous the boundary between physical and non physical has
become very imprecise in that the experience of fluidity and lightness made possible by signals and
electromagnetic waves renders the physical both material and opaque, very near to quintessence.
When boundaries are transgressed, the transcendent authorization of interpretation is lost, and with
it the ontology grounding Western epistemology (CM, 153).
If cyborg myth is about the transgression of boundaries, as Haraway seems to posit, it envisions

Compulsory heterosexuality refers to the idea that women and men are innately attracted to each

evaluated two episodes of Friends that display this phenomenon in which the main characters
assume that heterosexuality is the norm, which often leads to prejudice and stereotyping. Through
these assumptions based off of compulsory heterosexuality, Friends displays evident
heteronormativity. The first example of compulsory heterosexuality occurs in the pilot episode of
the series. In the beginning of this episode, Ross, one of the main male characters, is seen

The wedding banquet is a film which is based around the life of a Chinese born man Wai Tung
Gao, a very successful property developer in New York. Wai Tung hides the fact that he is a
homosexual from his parents who live in China because it is seen as a dishonourable
characteristic to have. He must find himself a fake wife to trick his parents into believing that he

between his son and Simon, this scene can be found at 1:35:28 to 1:36:58 of the wedding banquet.
The wedding banquet aims to show how perception of sexual orientation can effect different people
of different nationalities and how society looks at people of a different sexual orientation.
The scene which holds a lot of power in The Wedding Banquet is the scene in which Mr. Gao and
Simon are speaking to each other overlooking some kind of a pier. It is in this part of the film
that Simon realises that Mr. Gao can speak English which is a huge surprise for Simon as he had
spent some of the film trying to speak Chinese to Wai Tung s parents and trying to be polite to them

Although the mail order bride industry promises American men a beautiful, obedient, foreign wife, it fails to mention the negative atmosphere included within these situations. Mail order brides should be banned in the United States in order to reduce the increase of domestic violence amongst women (Chittenden 5), the testing of a bride s selflessness (Bell 1), and internet scams (Internet Relationships 1). Only then are they allowed to apply for the conditionality to be removed. The Fiance Visa, however, requires the bride and groom to wed in the U.S and only then can the husband file a petition with the INS. The visa s condition is that the couple must have met in person at least once within two years preceding filing the visa. If so, the bride is given ninety days to travel to the U.S. and marry the man she is engaged to. If the marriage does not take place within the ninety day period, then the bride is returned home. The Fiance Visa gives the couple the freedom to cancel at the last minute. (Chittenden 8). After immigration documents are finalized, the newly weds begin their new lives. Dubbed as the final frontier colloquially and by the popular science fiction movie series Star Trek, space and our colonization of extraterrestrial bodies are accepted as the next challenges in our natural progression of exploration as a species. In a 1983 lecture titled Our Future In The Cosmos Space given at The College of William Mary, writer and professor Isaac Asimov candidly states: Unless we are willing to settle down into a world that is our prison, we must be ready to move beyond Earth. Within the concept design of the interplanetary transport system, there is a woman, whose back is facing towards the camera, levitating in front of a large glass panel. Sartre s argument is that in the essence of free will being the part of the human experience where humans effectively breach the nature of reality and ontology and go against their given circumstances with their own free will, it is impossible for it to be in and of itself the nature of reality. Elizabeth Cady Stanton And The Women s Rights Movement The freedom for women to have equal rights is simply the fact that women deserve and have the right to be equal to their male counterparts. The definition may be simple, but the right is extremely complex in all dimensions. Countless women and men have fought and been persecuted for women to be where they are today, but they have a long road ahead of them. The sex in which they are born should not affect what they can do or what society thinks they can do. They will and must stand up for their rights. Elizabeth Cady Stantonhad an enormous impact on the Women s Rights Movement. She was born in 1815 in Johnstown, New York and died in 1902. Those are the question raised in Brett Gaylor s documentary RiP: A Remix Manifesto, raises alarms for those who think copyright holders have become too aggressive about protecting their intellectual property. The documentary highlights the popular music artist known as Girl Talk. Girl Talk consists of one man named Gregg Gillis and he takes parts from different songs (usually popular ones) and creates new music of his own. He doesn t use any of his own materials at all. A lot of people consider his work stealing and what is known as Copyright infringement; even though he changes the music so much, you can t even tell what all of the songs he uses are. Girl Talk is known as a mash up artist, and according to the documentary, mash up artists have stirred up quite a controversy with both the Copyright Company and the other artists they take their material from. Copyright problems arose with the advent of the free availability of information on the Internet. It was easy for people to steal music, movies and images from the internet and use them to create their own mash up piece. Prior to the internet copyrighting actually encouraged creativity. • 12. A Child With Developmental Delays When Mia was only two years old, her parents noticed that she was not up to speed with other children her age. This discovery led her to the genetics department at A.I. DuPont Children s Hospital. For a child with developmental delays, I only saw that she lit up the room with her energy and friendly nature, which made me fall in love with her as she explored the room. While the counselor consulted her parents, Mia continued to come up to me and grab my hands, something that she apparently did quite frequently. During the appointment, her mother began to cry, worried that she may have inadvertently caused Mia s condition during pregnancy. Her father had concerns that his first child may never be able to live a normal life and have children of her own. The counselor eased the parents concerns by educating them on her syndrome and basic genetics as well as getting them in contact with a support group for children with the same syndrome. Mia and her family went home well informed and in good spirits despite the devastating news they received. This family is a prime example of the benefits of genetic counseling, and why patient care is crucial in the profession. That experience drew me into genetic counseling, a profession that I did not know existed a year prior. Gender And Sexuality Aidan Garfield Professor Schafer Gender and Sexuality 27 March 2017 A History of Beauty in Gender and Sexuality Writings Discuss what you think the sources tell us about beauty s place in the history of gender and sexuality. Consider as well the historical evidence you have about efforts to enhance beauty through adornment or other alterations of appearance. The concept of beauty is one of the more intriguing and important concepts in the study of gender and sexuality. Charles Darwin s Descent of Man and Selection in Relation to Sex (1871), Sigmund Freud s Three Contributions to the Theory of Sex (1905), and Robert Musil s The Confusions of a Young TГ¶rless (1906) served to illustrate concepts of aesthetic beauty through the presence of adornment and beautification, the concept of libido theory and its dependence on physical beauty, and finally the concept of negative beauty, or the consequences of artificial collectivism and control. Charles Darwin, Sigmund Freud, and Robert Musil all work off of each other and use the concept of beauty in different ways, but when read in succession these works serve as a general timeline of gender and sexuality theory. The combined sources of Charles Darwin s Descent of Man and Selection in Relation to Sex (1871), Sigmund Freud s Three Contributions to the Theory of Sex (1905), and Robert Musil s The Confusions of a Young TГ¶rless (1906) solidify beauty in all its sense as holding a strong position in the overarching history of gender and sexuality and are even more interesting to note due to their progressive nature and philosophical intimacy. These texts stretch across different subjects, time periods, and even authorial regions to explain how the concept of beauty has contributed to the history of gender and sexuality, and that contribution must be ... • 14. Today s Bachelor Degrees Are A Minimum Assignment 3: Today s Bachelor Degrees are a Minimum Critical Thinking Henry Simoni Wastila December 16, 2012 The job market and educational institutions are advancing, and outlooks towards the bachelor s degree are unequivocally showing signs of change. While various establishments are particularly enticed by experience, dexterities, and attitude, other establishments unquestionably require postsecondary education from the very beginning. As the number of individuals obtaining a bachelor s degree skyrockets, the degree becomes more commonplace (Lawrence, 2012). This phenomenon has prompted employers to slap a Degree Required or Degree Preferred disclaimer in their job descriptions. Logically, one would have to pose the question Are today s bachelor s degrees a minimum, like high school degrees were thirty years ago? Arguments can be made from both sides, but research is necessary to render a sound conclusion. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, an individual with a bachelor s degree will earn practically double in salary as opposed to a person with a high school diploma over the course of their career. When deductive reasoning leads one to ask the question why, three primary reasons tend to surface. The first reason is the fact that bachelor s degree holders receive higher starting salaries. Secondly, bachelor s degree holders have an increased probability of earning potential, which includes but is not limited to raises and promotions. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. In The Bedroom Analysis The short story Killings is written by Andre Dubs which later recreated into a motion picture film called In the Bedroom by director Todd Field in 2001. Both the short story Killings and the film In the Bedroom highlights the themes of love and revenge. It shows how far a person would go for the people they love. The short story was named Killings because it not only focuses on two deaths but the multiple types of death and different aspects of it. Reading the short story Killings and watching the film In the BedroomI noticed many differences between the two. For example in the short story Killings Matt and Ruth had 3 kids and some grandchildren. In the film In the Bedroom Frank was the only child. I believe the direction Todd Fieldmade this change because he wanted us to focus on the idea of how painful it to lose a child, and how it can affect the relationship between the parents. I honestly thought that was really smart of the director to do since it made us feel how hard it most of been for Matt and Ruth to lose their only child. And how losing Frank made their love for each other kind of disappear. Another differences between the short story and the film was that in Killings the story started off at Frank funeral and later flashback of what had occurred. In the film In the Bedroom the story started from the beginning with Frank and his lover Natalie running in a field, which kind of made the story plot go in chronological order. ... Autoethnographic Writing Main Post #2 According to Hughes, Pennington, Makris (2012), a criterion for conducting fair and robust evaluations of autoethnographic writing is its adherence to a logic of inquiry that allows the reader to trace the path charted, beginning with the initial statement of the problem issue to its conclusions and applications of data. Conducting impartial research requires ensuring that a comprehensible illustration of procedures employed is presented for evaluation. It also requires a blueprint for research design and development, analytic and construal of data collected, deductions, and inferences that substantiate or refute theories. Another criterion for conducting fair and robust evaluations of autoethnographic writing requires transparency of the report submission. Hughes, Pennington, and Makris (2012) assert that researchers must be clear in the rationale driving the investigation as well as the actions taken beginning with the initial concern or interest. He breaks down the word to create a simple reference, response able means understanding that you are accountable for your life. Your behaviors are determined by you. Viktor Frankl was placed into a Jewish concentration camp during WWII; he endured great misfortune during this period of his life. To cope with the experience he envisioned himself simply watching the catastrophic torture he would endure in an out of body type of experience. He discovered, between stimulus and response, man was free to choose, by this he meant he could escape the torture by realizing that he was in control of his own behaviors, not in his physical state but his mental state. By having control of himself he did not fall prey to reactive tendencies. The referenced statement would be considered false; Covey believes that people are responsible for their own actions and behaviors. To rebound the blame is merely what he refers to as a reactive person that uses their physical environment to dismiss their own irresponsible behaviors. In doing this the person essentially becomes part of the problem, instead of the solution. This statement would also fall into the circle of concern as it refers to the actions of how others are impacting your life. This area is how reactive individuals may choose to let people affect their life. Leadership and management as explained by Covey are quite different. The meaning of leadership is the ... A good summary of Social Darwinismis by Johnson: In these years, when Darwin s Origin of Species, popularized by Herbert Spencer as quot;the survival of the fittest, quot; and applied to races as well as species in a vulgarized form, Social Darwinism, the coming Christian triumph was presented as an Anglo Saxon Protestant one. What this seemed to mean to Darwin was biological evolution. Organisms better suited to their environment gained some survival advantage and passed their genetically transmitted advantages to their offsprings. Darwin thought that this process was extremely slow and even. In fact, we became aware that it is neither slow nor even: there are examples of a good deal of change in a short period of time; and there are examples of very little change over a long period of time. Nor did Darwin understand the mechanism by which the transmission took place. This was to be figured out by Gregor Mendel, Thomas Hunt Morgan, DeVries and in our own time, Watson and Crick who deduced the spiral shape of the DNA molecule. Darwin s discoveries struck his native England, as well as Europe, and this country with an enormous impact. They ran into total conflict with the idea of special creation, which one can find in the Book of Genesis, especially Chapter I and II. The emotional impact of Darwin s discoveries have not abated. The Misapplication of a Biological Theory But, for our purposes, it is the use to which some people made of biological evolution which concerns us. Though this wasn t the primary weapon for most of the soldiers, it was favored by snipers for its precision at long ranges. Weapons of Destruction American soldiers were using fairly new weapons compared to previous conflicts. The fully automatic assault rifle was new addition to the American arsenal. Coronary Artery Bypass Exercise The Prevalence of Depression after Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery Chantelle Spence Nova Southeastern University The Prevalence of Depression after Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) surgery is a widely used surgical procedure for the relief of symptoms of Coronary Artery Disease (Bagielia, Connerney, McLaughlin, Shapiro, Sloan, 2001, p. 1766). Coronary Artery Disease is the narrowing of the blood vessels that supply oxygen and nutrients to the heart muscles. The buildup of fatty material within the walls of the arteries causes cardiac diseases (Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery,, 2010) .To resolve this issue, surgeons take veins and arteries from elsewhere in the patient s body. Then, surgeons graft the veins and arteries to the coronary arteries to bypass the atherosclerotic narrowing and improve the blood supply to the heart muscles (Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery,, 2010). This procedure increases the blood flow to the heart by giving the blood a new route around the diseased or clogged artery (Bagielia, Connerney, McLaughlin, Shapiro, Sloan, 2001). This demonstrates that Suncor is on track to meet national demands and constraints placed on the energy industry. This age of curiosity and exploration of a country, that the world would later know as Japan, was called the Tokugawa period. As a result of their newfound self, came art and more specifically, woodblock prints. These woodblock prints are significant to the Tokugawa era because they reflected what was going on during that period, including: what was currently happening, how the people viewed the world, and what new discoveries were made. During the Tokugawa era, the woodblock prints show that this was a time of peace because of the often travel, economic growth and significance of nature. The beautiful... Furthermore, Tsukudajima displays a time of peace because of the economic growth and beauty nature held over the people. These boats suggest that there are goods being imported and exported and Japan is earning money, therefore an economy is growing. Moreover, the beauty of Tsukudajima s starry night, almond eye moon, and colorful sky sitting on the horizon indicates that nature holds a power over the artists. Since the moon looks like the shape of an almond eye, the artist probably sees the moon as a guardian, which suggests that the people praised nature. • 34. The Issue of Compensation and Its Repercussions on Society A very contentious issue arising within public domain is that of compensation and its repercussions on overall society. Over the past 3 decades executive compensation has ballooned while the average worker continues to see only modest gains in income. The average annual earnings of the top 1 percent of wage earners grew 156 percent from 1979 to 2007; for the top 0.1 percent they grew 362 percent (Kaplan, 2012). In contrast, earners in the 90th to 95th percentiles had wage growth of 34 percent, less than a tenth as much as those in the top 0.1 percent tier. Workers in the bottom 90 percent had the weakest wage growth, at 17 percent from 1979 to 2007. If inflation averaged just 2% a year over this period, the gains of the bottom 90% would be negative. In 2007, average annual incomes of the top 1 percent of households were 42 times greater than incomes of the bottom 90 percent, and incomes of the top 0.1 percent were 220 times greater. This is an increase of 1400% and 4700% respectively since 1979. These statistics do not bode well for the health care industry which is currently undergoing immense change. With the healthcare reform currently underway, many changes will be made to entitlements and overall compensation. Entry level workers in particular will have a fundamentally different compensation package then prior generations. Due primarily to a combination of excessive spending, deficit reductions, and an aging population, alterations to compensation will occur. The extent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. The Origins of Voodoo Essay The Origins of Voodoo Voodoo is a religion rich in heritage and founded in faith and community. The religion has been villainized by western culture and has been wrongly portrayed as malignant and dangerous. The religion is not founded in any of the (known) black magics or fear popularized by Hollywood films, but rather it is based on balance and tradition. The religion is not something that should be encountered with inhibition or fear induced from childhood horror stories, but embraced for its strength and history. Voodoo originated as an amalgam of African religions during the slave trade. As slaves were shipped from Africa to the Caribbean, groups of slaves sharing a similar heritage were broken apart to prevent any sense of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the three centuries of religious oppression, voodoo became a symbol of pride and independence for the slaves. Any pride in a slave is, of course, regarded as a threat to the slave owner. Rumors of human sacrifice and devil worship became prevalent in the social circles of plantation owners and slave traders. These statements had no validity, but traveled quickly throughout the Caribbean and America. The practitioners of voodoo embraced this fear as means to frighten their former masters and gain some respect in a world where they were deprived of everything. Former slave owners quickly found themselves duped into the beliefs of voodoo dolls and hexes. Of course, many slave owners simply killed their slaves rather than be frightened by the voodoo. The practice itself is not actually frightening or powerful in any way, but that doesn?t matter to superstitious folks like those in Salem. No historical evidence of human sacrifice or affiliation with Satan has been discovered (Voodoo), or likely ever will be. Primary religions involved in the African aspect of voodoo are Macumba and Candomble of the Yoruba people of Nigeria, and several now extinct tribes from the Congos and Cameroon. These religions lay the groundwork for the course of religious ceremonies and contain the origins for the deities worshipped in modern voodoo. • 37. The Holy Spirit The earliest title for the book of Acts seems to have been simply The Acts . Some have suggested, however, that it does not mean the acts of the apostles, but the acts of the Holy Spirit instead. Such a conclusion may seem odd, but a recognition of the importance of the Holy Spirit in Acts is completely justified. The full title of the book of Acts may be The Acts of the Apostles , but that title could equally well read The Acts of the Holy Spirit. (Drumwright, Holy Spirit In The Book Of Acts. ). In the American Standard Version of Acts there are fifty six references to the Holy Spirit. Comparing that to other portions of the New Testament, the significance of the Holy Spirit in the book of Acts is clearly seen. The combined sixty eight chapters of the Synoptic Gospels only have thirty four references to the Holy Spirit. The combined thirty two chapters of Romans and 1 Corinthians, which are Paul s longest letters, contain only forty five references to the Holy Spirit. With fifty six references to the Holy Spirit in its twenty eight chapters, it s justified to call Acts the book of the Spirit (Drumwright, Holy Spirit In The Book Of Acts. ). The Holy Spirit was promised by Jesusto the apostles as their power in Luke chapter 24, verse 49. • 41. Analysis Of The Poem Eve Of Her Daughters And ... The two poems I have chosen to analyze are Judith Wright s Eve to Her Daughters (992) and Robert Browning s Porphyria s Lover (642) and what they have in relation to one another. I will be examining the dramatic monologue form that takes place in both poems and how it could present the image and possibility for coercion. I will discuss how, with the utilization of dramatic monologue, we as the audience, experience the speaker s world with a glimpse into their personal perspectives alongside with their mentalities. Furthermore, I will highlight the similarities and differences between the poems, how both poems interact with one another, and what we can comprehend with both poems that would not be possible if viewed separately. In regards to Judith Wright s Eve to Her Daughters (992) this poem is coming from a coercion place of female oppression. Whereas, Robert Brownings Porphyria s Lover (642) coercion place comes from one of compulsion to enforce his will upon his lover Porphyria. In Eve to Her Daughters the speaker is Eve and we, as the audience, are her daughters listening to her story and guidance. The dramatic monologue we thereby envision is all through Eve s eyes and therefore, we are able to experience what she is experiencing. Food labels objective is mostly to inform consumers about the products characteristics which actually play an important role in purchasing or the decision making process of the food item. The government should be more diligent in monitoring the presence of food labels and the accuracy of their claims given the recent rise of health issues, higher frequency of food allergies, and increasing population of more aware consumers. These theories give insight into the ways in which organisations are run. Different models of management are adopted depending on whether they rely on adaptability and innovation for survival or whether their central aim is mass production to keep up with an ever increasing demand. The two scenarios described would either adopt a scientific management approach or a human relations model of management. The latter of which will be argued is the most effective method when an organisation is dependent on innovation and creativity for its survival. The principles discussed in his work lay out the foundation for what he believed to be the optimum procedures for creating a highly productive and efficient working environment. However, Taylor does not give a clear description of what is meant by the term scientific management . Another writer on the subject, Robert F Hoxie provides this definition: Scientific management is a system devised by industrial engineers for the purpose of serving the common interests of employers, workmen and society at large through the elimination of avoidable wastes, the general improvement of the processes and methods of production, and the just and scientific distribution of the product (Hoxie, 1915:140). As we can see from the definition given, the underlying theme of this model of management is industrial efficiency. Taylor s goal was to introduce a model that would increase output and decrease waste. One way in which Taylor foreseen greater efficiency within the workplace was through the introduction of standardisation. Taylor (1911: 140) explained in his book: science over rule of thumb; harmony, not discord; cooperation, not individualism; maximum output, in place of restricted output; and the development of each man to his greatest efficiency and prosperity. cooperation not individualism from this statement alone we can see that there ... Fitzgerald s, The Great Gatsby, there is an often ignored view of the women s perspective. It brings attention to how women have no expectations to go far in life, or have a reason for life besides, to reproduce. The absurd thing is that the women don t have any interest to break out of the stereotype, and try to make a life for themselves. Throughout the story, Daisy Buchanan, Jordan Baker, and Myrtle Wilson are treated as possessions rather than humans. The female character first mentioned is Daisy, a perfect example of a woman in the 1920 s. She is married to Tom, and has a daughter Pammy, who doesn t have a job, and is very flirtatious. In The Great Gatsby, Daisy has always been in the upper class so to speak, so she doesn t know what it is like to not get her way, and has never settled for anything less. When she sees Gatsby s shirts, Daisy says They re such beautiful shirts, she sobbed, her voice muffled in the thick folds. It makes me sad because I ve never seen such such beautiful shirts before. (Fitzgerald,118). What is meant by Daisy crying over the shirts, is that it shows that she has finally found a lifestyle that is greater than her current one. It makes her sad when she sees the shirts because she knows that it s a lifestyle that she has always wanted, but has never had the chance to have until this point, so she is upset, because she knows that she would be risking everything if she chose this life. It also shows, that women can be overdramatic in situations that should have little to no effect on a male. In addition, Daisy also believes it is better to be dumb than to be knowledgeable as a woman. Growing up Daisy had come from a wealthy family, and has never known poverty. She says in chapter 5 All right, I said, I m glad it s a girl. And I hope she ll be a fool that s the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool. (118). Her argument is introduced as an effort to build an ironic political myth faithful to feminism, socialism, and materialism (CM, 149). She claims blasphemy and irony as her vantage tools. They have no memory of a primary state of innocence; they conceive of no Father s saving through the restoration of a garden they don t recognize the Garden of Eden in that they do not re member the cosmos (CM, 151). As they build no sense of community on the model of the organic family, they live outside the oedipal project they are wary of holism, but needy for connection (CM, 151). Though the offsprings of militarism, patriarchal capitalism and state socialism, they are illegitimate offsprings and thus unfaithful to their origins. The late twentieth century scientific culture in the United States has experienced three crucial boundary breakdowns: the boundary between human and animal is thoroughly breached the boundary between human and machine has become leaky and ambiguous the boundary between physical and non physical has become very imprecise in that the experience of fluidity and lightness made possible by signals and electromagnetic waves renders the physical both material and opaque, very near to quintessence. When boundaries are transgressed, the transcendent authorization of interpretation is lost, and with it the ontology grounding Western epistemology (CM, 153). If cyborg myth is about the transgression of boundaries, as Haraway seems to posit, it envisions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I have evaluated two episodes of Friends that display this phenomenon in which the main characters assume that heterosexuality is the norm, which often leads to prejudice and stereotyping. Through these assumptions based off of compulsory heterosexuality, Friends displays evident heteronormativity. The first example of compulsory heterosexuality occurs in the pilot episode of the series. In the beginning of this episode, Ross, one of the main male characters, is seen complaining about his divorce as the rest of his friends try to comfort him with jokes and sympathy.
