Cardiovascular System Vs Extravascular Compartment
In humans the cardiovascular system (blood circulatory system, intravascular compartment) provides
the function of the extravascular compartment (organs and tissues). Physical conditions (fluid
dynamics) in these two compartments are different: the intravascular compartment (cardiovascular
system) is dynamic with liquid (blood) circulation, whereas the extravascular compartment is static,
the cells are fixed and liquid flow is minimal or absent. Blood mean velocity in different parts of the
cardiovascular system (aorta, capillaries, veins) is from 0.03 sm/ sec to 40 cm/sec [44 46]. A
bacterium of a 1µm size for one second travels with blood a distance that exceeds its body size from
300 to 400,000 times. For phagocytic leukocytes, the measuring time point for bacterial engulfment is
from one to 15 minutes [47 50]. Phagocytosis requires a long time span and is possible in the
extravascular compartment only (tissues, connective tissue, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The total number of leukocytes (20 30 million in peripheral blood) is not enough for bacteria clearing.
Leukocytes are less than 0.1% of the blood cells, besides, only 68% of peripheral blood leukocytes are
professional phagocytic cells [59]. As a result, bactericidal leukocytes are 0.068% of all blood cells
and they have 1200 1500 times fewer chances to contact bacteria than other cells, particularly,
erythrocytes [51, 52]. Neutrophils die after engulfing a few pathogens, their life span is form 13 hours
to 5.4 days [60 62], whereas erythrocytes, circulating for 100 120 days, live 18 22 times longer than
neutrophils [44, 45]. Bacteria are able to kill phagocytes [63 66] and for many pathogens,
phagocytosis is indispensable for proliferation and dissemination [67 70]. These data demonstrate that
phagocytosis have no bactericidal role in the blood and leukocytes do not provide bloodstream
clearance from

Capital Punishment
Capital Punishment
Murder, a common occurrence in American society, is thought of as a horrible, reprehensible atrocity.
Why then, is it thought of differently when the state government arranges and executes a human being,
the very definition of premeditated murder? Capital punishment has been reviewed and studied for
many years, exposing several inequities and weaknesses, showing the need for the death penalty to be
abolished.
Upon examination, one finds capital punishment to be economically weak and deficient. A common
misconception of the death penalty is that the cost to execute a convicted criminal is cheaper than to
place a convict in prison for life without parole. Due to the United States judicial system, the process
of appeals, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whatever they need, they can get (Cummings).
In addition to being racially prejudiced, capital punishment places innocent lives at risk. Recently in
Chicago, a black man was released from death row after nearly sixteen years in prison. This man,
Anthony Porter, came within two days of receiving a lethal injection, until the courts finally agreed
hearing on his mental capacity. Porter was very lucky to receive an excellent attorney who managed to
prove that Porter was innocent and led the police to a prisoner in Milwaukee who confessed (Kile).
This shows the importance of the appeal process found in the courts, which serve to protect the lives
of innocent citizens of the United States of America. A writer for The Christian Century writes,
quot;Porter s case brings to light the very real danger that overzealous prosecutors, sloppy legal work
and poor legal defense teams will send people to their deaths for crimes they didn t commit, quot;
(Kile). If Porter had an equipped defense attorney from the start, he would never have been to prison
and nearly killed. Ryan Cummings of The Economist observed that more crimes are punishable by
execution, more states have adopted the death penalty and the appeals process has been shortened. The
overall expansion of capital punishment endangers innocent lives. Cumulatively, there is now less
time and fewer tools to save innocent men and women

Monae s Metropolis Saga
Monae s Metropolis Saga uses the cyborg as a metaphor for the oppressed, using cyborg bodies as a
stand in for black bodies and consequently drawing connections between the state of blackness and the
state of being cyborg. Monae herself speaks of her decision to choose an android because the android
to [her] represents the other in our society. (Kot 1) This is made specific to blackness when, in the
Metropolis Saga, Cindi time travels to the 20th and 21st centuries and is reborn as Janelle Monae,
becoming black rebels throughout history; accordingly, the line between cyborg ontology and black
ontology is blurred as she jumps between the two. Monae, additionally, describes cyborgs as neon
slaves, electric savages, making clear ties between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If for Monae, black bodies are cyborg bodies, cyborg bodies have existed throughout history and
cannot be situated solely in the future. Consequently, Metropolis as a city centered around Cindi s
black cyborg body cannot be temporally alienated from history, and must reckon with it. More than
that, though, Metropolis itself is not just a vision of the future but of the past, a transhistorical
metaphor of oppression and liberation. This differs from traditional science fiction cyborg
representations because for Haraway and many others, the cyborg exists within a future world.
However, for Monae, the cyborg has always existed in the form of black bodies, and the science
fiction world serves only to illuminate this. Accordingly, the transhistoricality is the only way that a
cyborg can be raced and allows a raced cyborg to recognize and grapple with the dark history that
birthed it for Cindi, this means time traveling to literally participate in, change, and solve her history.
Perhaps this is best expressed by the name of Monae s upcoming album, presumably containing the
last two suites of the Metropolis Saga, Dirty Computer. The computer is the android; however, the
android retains its dirt, the dirt being the dark and dirty history of racializations and blackness her
cyborg refuses to be pristine and reject that history, instead

Spanglish Language
Nowadays, with the globalization process, people are closer to get to know new languages and
cultures because they can access more easily to a big variety of information all around the world.
Being close to information is crucial in the languages world since people are already involved and
contextualized in it, for instance; English is the Lingua Franca; it is everywhere: The Internet, books,
advertisement, films and the like. In this understanding, English learning has become a necessity for
some countries, especially those which are influenced politically, socially or even ideologically by
English speaking countries. Nonetheless, regarding languages, identity and speaker s identity, a social,
cognitive phenomenon is becoming polemical in many Spanish speaking countries such as Colombia,
Mexico, Puerto Rico, and also in North America, particularly in states with large Hispanic
communities settled down; it is known as Spanglish. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The use of this new way to talk may have diverse implications because, firstly, there is not a clear
definition of Spanglish as Teck (1998) points out: Spanglish is a strange thing. Like art (and some
other stuff), you may not be able to describe it, but you know it when you see it . Secondly, every
scholar has a different concept about what Spanglish stands for. Some people conceive Spanglish is an
attack on the integrity of the Spanish language because it depicts a way in which English is invading
Spanish. Some Spanish native speakers also point out Spanglish is only used by poor people or people
who are not proficient in the language they are speaking, as Gonzales (1997)

Garrett Stout
March 18, 2002. This was the night that Garrett Stout came into this world in New Albany. His proud
parents are Donald and Stacie from Salem, who say that when Garrett was baby, he practically slept
half the day. Garrett also has two sisters, one 16 and one is 18, one of which is in college. Garrett also
owns four pets, two dogs and two cats. He is 14 years old and is the youngest child in the family. His
first memory is when he was three years old, he was chased through the woods by a copperhead
snake. Then a few years later, his dad moved out. However, it did not really bother him because he
does not like his dad very much. When he was a toddler, he also played little league baseball and
biddy ball. He loved to touch anything he could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also tended to get in trouble quite often in elementary school, but was still able to participate in
school sports. Garrett had very good social skills and learned how to talk to people very well by 3rd
grade. Later in junior high, he got his first PM detention and made a lot of new friends. A year or so
later, Garrett s house got broken into while he and his mother were not home, but fortunately nothing
too valuable or expensive was taken. Later that year, Garrett went with his mom to Florida and went
deep sea fishing and caught a bonito fish longer than his legs! His hobbies include mainly fishing and
hunting. He likes generally all genres of music and does not read much, but does like the book
Michael Vey: The Prisoner of Cell 25. His favorite tv show is Impractical Jokers, and in the next five
years, Garrett wants to have his own place and be a firefighter. Ever since his house got robbed,
Garrett has resented criminals and thinks that they need to be brought to justice. This is why he wants
to pursue the career of being a police officer. Garrett would also like to marry the woman he loves in
the next ten years. He also wants to have some kids, and possibly even win the lottery if he is lucky

Mary Shelly and the Romantic Era
The story written by Mary Shelly reflects the mood of the Romantic era in numerous ways. Some of
these themes include views on science, changes in the weather across Europe, mistrust of
advancements in science and the role of disease and death and the loneliness that resulted. The
experiences of Shelly and even the setting and location where she formed the idea for Frankenstein
display interesting themes of the time period. Disease and death were a common theme throughout the
Romantic era. Not only did it affect Shelly s life directly, the topic of personal loss was evident
throughout her novel. The murders of Victor s family and friends by the monster displayed this theme
but it was also on display early in the book with Victor s mother catching the Scarlet Fever and dying
after attending to Elizabeth during a bout of the same. Disease, tragedy and death seemed to be a sad
but very common part of life during this time period. Interestingly, changes in the climate and weather
of Europe were a key factor in the idea of Frankenstein coming about. Due to this inclement weather,
a period of time was spent indoors by Mary, her husband and some of her friends. After discussions
about ghost stories, gothic writings and reanimated corpses, Mary s imagination rose to the occasion
and after a nightmare one night Frankenstein was born. As a side note, I also found the mood the
Frankenstein book felt cold and gloomy throughout. Although the scenery

The Impacts of the Scottish Parliament and Visit Scotland...
Both the Scottish Parliament and Visit Scotland show two different images of modern Scotland. The
parliament appeals to the Scottish people and try to improve the Scottish economy. Visit Scotland
directed at tourists and is rather stereotypical. They do not convey a true image of modern Scotland.
They are trying to appeal to two different audiences but they are making mistakes and this is causing
Scotland to suffer. Throughout this essay is going to contemplate and examine how both the Scottish
Parliament and Visit Scotland have a direct and significant impact on how the image of modern day
Scotland is portrayed.
Visit Scotland and the tourist industry convey images of Scotland which show that people are always
happy. These images are aimed at tourists in order to bring people to Scotland. There is a sense of
community and belonging however are they only showing rural Scotland. The images of modern
Scotland are not shown. This means that their images only show the countryside. They do not show
the night life of Scotland and also what the cities are like. This may lead many people into believing
that everyone in Scotland own sheep and live in cottages and that they are miles away from shops.
This is very stereotypical. Visit Scotland is not the only industry that does this, the film industry does
this too. For example; Made of Honor is very modern film released in 2008. However, when the film
moves to Scotland it shows the family living in a castle in the middle of

How American English Has Changed American Culture
American English has changed the culture of Americans depending on where you live. People in the
south have deeply reflected their culture on the English they speak. As you move north on the map
northerners call soda pop while southerners call soda what it is actually called. Southerners have been
making a big impact on American English by adding y all into the dictionary. The beginning detail of
the essay is people have affected their culture by the way they talk. Southerners have put an accent on
their words and added a couple of words in the American dictionary because it is now being spoken in
most parts of the world. Southerners and people all around the world have changed the way they talk
to make conversations easier to understand.

The Nullification Crisis and Its Effects on the United States
The Nullification Crisis, which transpired under Andrew Jackson s administration created a
controversy not only during its time, but also in the years to follow and ultimately was one of the
many causes of the Civil War years later. The Nullification crisis soon developed in the early 1830 s
when the state of South Carolina began to have issues with the protective tariff (which was designed
to protect the industry in the northern United States by taxing imports). At this point in history, many
of the leaders of South Carolina were under the idea that a state did not have to follow a federal law
and could nullify the law. This was a result that many colonists from South Carolina felt that the
protective tax was benefiting the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the more powerful men in advocating of the south was John C. Calhoun, who was an
experienced politician at the time. Many believe that Calhoun s ideas were the precursor to the session
crisis that ultimately triggered the Civil War around 30 years later. Although a solution was established
to resolve the tension between the North and the South, the issue resurfaced over the issue of slavery a
few years later due to the South once again becoming angered at certain actions of the President. In
conclusion, the Nullification Crisis contributed to the Civil War for many different reasons. For one,
President Jackson s main goal was to preserve the Union and avoid war at any cost. However, the
Nullification Crisis created tension between the North and the South, which would later boil over to
the point of war. Furthermore, the North was a manufacturing community, as well as being
significantly larger than the South. The South was an agricultural society, meaning that they were
dependent on the North for manufactured goods. Tensions rose between the North and South because
the North was not only benefiting from the protective tariff, but they were making money from the
South s need for manufactured goods for farming. In the end, the protective tariff showed that if the
North could inflict a tariff on the South, then the North (have a significantly larger population) could
end slavery (which was the South s main form of wealth). Due to

Bronze Dbq
Question 1: The Bronze Age was the time that bronze is a primary metal used to make weapons and
other tools. Mycenaeans contributed to this time through Greek culture and the growing power of
monarchies. A civilization called the Minoans the Bronze Age focused on trade and the quality of what
they were trading. If the trade was better than the goods were made better. The age that came after
bronze was iron. The Iron Age was a period when things were starting to be made out of iron. Iron
was much stronger than bronze so that made it more valuable and wanted. The Assyrian empire was
the first empire to have made iron weapons and tools. Both ages impacted the way that tools were
made whether they were bronze or iron.

Modest Tchaikovsky s Personal Life
Tchaikovsky s personal life, and especially his sexuality, have been discussed to an extent that is very
uncommon for most composers of his time. Although he achieved much success, he also suffered
through much trauma. He often fell into depressive episodes, and worked through many trials, such as
his mother s death, his own suppressed homosexuality, and the loss of his good friend and sponsor
Nadezhda von Meck. His homosexuality was a source of much contention in his life. Writings to his
brother, Modeste Tchaikovsky in 1876 reveal his decision to get married as it would mitigate the
social effects of his homosexuality. He states, I am now going through a very critical period of my life.

Groopman s Essay On Immunotherapy
Groopman s essay is a collection of case studies and anecdotes assembled to provide a chronology on
immunotherapy as a potentially viable treatment for cancer. One of the prevalent notions that arises
from his work is centered on the impact of pharmaceutical desires with regards to medical research.
Often in the essay the directions or methods of research are coerced to change towards the end of
pleasing large pharmaceutical companies or other sources of capital. By enabling a cycle of monetary
allocations dictating scientific research and not the other way around, as it objectively should be the
potential of less conventional or longer term research cannot hope to be realized, as the research is
stunted in its infancy if it does not look auspicious in the short term for financial returns. The same

Similarly to the development of theories of consciousness detailed in Miller s essay, time was needed
in the case of immunotherapy between periods of discovery for the available technology to be able to
support new discoveries and techniques. Coley first began his work with immunotherapy in 1891,
Nixon declared cancer would be cured within a decade in 1971, and Hammer made Nixon s old and
unfulfilled promise his new goal in 1988. However, the actual technology to make immunotherapy
potentially viable did not exist during any of those periods. It was not until recently that the techniques
thought essential to making the practice work were deemed to be in existence as, in 2011, Cheever

111). Thus, regardless of the quality of ideas and research surrounding immunotherapy, until quite
recently it was not possible to execute those ideas in a manner conducive to effective treatments or

The Importance Of Social Class In America
Social class largely affects the ways of life of all Americans These divisions of social class are
characterized by viewpoints, for example, lifestyle and income but education is a huge part of
deciding one s social class. That does not imply that it will decide a person s achievements but with
many individuals with higher education normally have better jobs with benefits and higher wages too.
Those of the privileged have higher education rather than those of middle and lower class. Around
14% of mortgage holders are either behind on their home payments or are putting up for foreclosure.
The economic crash and foreclosure crisis that occurred in 2008 was not made by one issue but rather
a blend of issues. People obtained more than they could bear the cost of however they were permitted,
and now and again empowered, to do this by bankers which institutions that should be helping the
people to finance. The conviction that material belonging enhances people s lives and social prosperity
pervades in America. As opposed to this belief different studies demonstrate that materialists
contrasted with non materialists have individual and social prosperity. Compulsive and impulsive
shopping, debt, diminished savings overall decrease the well being of people and other undesirable
results have all been connected with materialistic behavior. American materialism has found its ways
to millions in America. Success is measured in the materials and the social class a person is in. This

Impact Of Caroline Chisholm
The impact of the movement of peoples to Australia is evident in an examination of the life of
Caroline Chisholm. She was born on the 30th of May 1808, in Northampton, England and was one of
sixteen children. She was brought up as a Christian girl in the tradition of Evangelical philanthropy
meaning she continued in life doing a lot of charitable work and was an extremely progressive 19th
century humanitarian philanthropist. Her major passion in life was to promote immigration to
Australia and particularly look after single, unsupported women arriving on the shores of Australia.
Caroline Chisholm, along with her husband, Captain Archibald and their children, were granted a two
year leave due to her husband s ill health after being in India and rather than returning to England they
thought Australia s climate would benefit him more. So, in September 1838 they arrived in the
Emerald Isle, Sydney.
Chisholm s work as philanthropist didn t start when she moved to Sydney, Australia. It was actually in
June 1833 when she joined her husband who was serving in the army in Madras, India. She became
aware of the poor daughters who were picking up bad behaviours after being around the soldiers. So,
in June 1834 Caroline founded the Female School of Industry for the Daughters of European Soldiers.
This provided a practical education for the girls, which included; instruction in reading, writing,

Due to the drought, Governor Jerry Bown of Californina, ordered a statewide twenty five percent cut
in urban water consumption. This statewide water consumption cut will result in, forcing the state s
biggest water users, which include some of the wealthiest communities, to bear the brunt. The water
consumption for the residents of Cowan Heights is higher than the residents of Compton because they
can afford it. Stephanie Pincetl, the director of the California Center for Sustainable Communities at
the University of California, Los Angeles, states, They have bigger properties. They are less price
sensitive. So if you can afford it, you use it. The attitudes toward water consumption are different
between the residents of the two cities. One resident of Compton, Alysia Thomas, stated, she tells her
children to skip a bath on days when they do not play outside; that holds down the water bill.
Although both cities have different attitudes; they both have to face the same circumstances if they do
not cut back on water consumption. California distribute fines to those who do not conserve water.

How Wrestling Is A Sport
How Are You Going to Respond? Once you have wrestled everything else in life is easy Dan Gable.
This quote might not seem true to everyone but not everyone has wrestled. Wrestling is a difficult
sport. Wrestling wears on you physically and mentally. The sport of wrestling has many difficult tasks
and most people say that you don t have to cut weight you really don t but it s part of the sport just like
fouls are a part of basketball. Cutting weight is one of the hardest parts of the sport. As much as I love

Black Power In Australia
Founded in the mid 1960s the Black Power was a political movement that arose among African
Americans in the United States whose agenda was to bring to fore the racial consciousness. Some of
its champions were Robert Williams, Malcolm X, and Stokely Carmichael. AAL (Aborigines
Advancement League) first introduced the term in Australia in 1968 when its then leaders, Bruce
McGuiness and Bob Maza were invited in Melbourne Dr. Roosevelt Brown, a Caribbean activist and
academic to give a talk on Black Power . This action attracted negative press from the media, which

Movement Framing Examples
The act of framing is without a doubt a tactical strategy. During the organization of a social
movement, framing was as a way to assign meaning (McAdam, 339) or look at events in ways that
could inspire support from both group members and the common people while subjugating the
opposing party. McAdam (339) states, Mediating between opportunity and action are people and the...
meanings they attach to their situations. The events that occur during the rise of a social movement all
present opportunities to help members achieve their goal but in order to even act upon these
opportunities, the people involved must frame their situation in a way that will draw support to their
cause. During the Civil Rights movement, the use of framing, on both sides, greatly influenced the
outcome of social reform. McAdam states that there are six strategies social movement groups can
employ to bring about change. In the case of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and the Southern Christian
Leadership Conference (SCLC), even though blacks could now vote legal subterfuge and extralegal
intimidation prevented them from taking part of political reform in the south (McAdam, 345). This
intimidation extended as far as murder to prevent the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

movement. By framing the violence that took place in Birmingham and Selma, the civil rights

Essay on T.S. Eliot s The Waste Land
T.S. Eliot s The Waste Land Both the hysteric and the mystic transgress the linear syntax and logic
governing the established symbolic order. Helen Bennett It is perhaps part of the unique genius of T.S.
Eliot s The Waste Land that both critics and lay readers have repeatedly felt forced to look outside the
published text of the poem for clues as to its meaning. The text s fragmented, seemingly violated body
seems to exhibit wounds through which its significance has slipped, creating a difficulty caused by the
author s having left out something which the reader is used to finding; so that the reader, bewildered,
gropes about for what is absent...a kind of meaning which is not there, and is not meant to be there ...

Asked to describe what sort of life might spring up out of the stony rubbish (20) of the poem s sterile
landscape by an interlocutor who seems by the force of the allusion to Ezekiel to be a representative of
some sort of transcendent reality, there seems to be no way for the poet to answer. The speaker
continues in almost accusatory tone: You cannot say, or guess, for you know only/ A heap of broken
images (21 22), and it is in this line that Eliot questions the potential for meaning inherent in language.
The self is unable to explicate the nature of this life for his only language is a mere heap a disordered
pile of broken images . Here Eliot describes language as representation, and in this mode it is doubly
useless; first, because it is broken , fragmented and divorced from the very realities it was intended to
describe, and second, because it consists of mere images representations of things and not the things
themselves. One might argue that language, though only a heap of broken images, does achieve a
certain reflexivity here, for in that disordered pile of reflections lies a landscape where the sun beats,/
And the dead tree gives no shelter, the cricket no relief (22 23). But the space that language presents
here is a sterile, dead one, without evidence of the growth of either root or branch. Absent too are the

The Body By Steven King Analysis
How does a child receive the necessary parental guidance growing up if their parents and all other
adults in their life are abusive, neglectful, and at best uninvolved? Throughout Steven King s novella
The Body it becomes evident that children will try to find guidance in almost anything. But, as King
demonstrates in his novella, the most common source of guidance comes from a child s friends. All
four boys, Gordie, Teddy, Vern, and Chris replace the rolls of their parents by comforting, protecting,
and counselling each other through tough times. First, the boys replace the guidance rolls of their
parents by comforting each other. This can be scene multiple times throughout the novella and
probably produces some of the most dramatic scenes in the Novella. The boys comfort each other in
multiple ways with the most common way of comfort being through words. At the dump, when Milo
and Teddy have the whole name calling incident, Teddy is cut deep emotionally by Milo s rude
comments about his father. This is where King implements the first dose of parental comfort from a
friend into the story. Walking along the tracks after leaving the dump, Teddy breaks down and begins
to sob, this is when Chris steps in to comfort Teddy. Chris comforts Teddy by telling him, Lissen,
Teddy, what do you care what a fat old pile of shit like him said about your father? Huh? I mean,
sincerely! That don t change nothing, does it? What a fat old pile of shit like him says? Huh? Huh?

Essay On Remy s Marxist Ladder Of Social Hierarchy
Remy s Marxist Ladder of Social Hierarchy The original Pixar film Ratatouille, entails a marxist
centered motif in which maps out Remy s desire and passion for climbing the social ladder; in order to
reach the success of being a chef in the most popular restaurant and become apart of the higher social
class where the humans thrive. Remy s family is a mischief of rats who are depicted as the lower class.
The sewer, being a perfect place to depict the slums is where the rats live and as the lower class

Mary Rowlandson s Captivity Narrative Analysis
Mary Rowlandson s captivity narrative was published anonymously by someone who wanted to
protect Rowlandson as a woman author. Davis writes, the publisher claims credit for persuading this
modest woman to allow publication of her private material and gives credibility to a work that would
not be allowed to stand on its own because of its female author (58). While the publisher takes credit
for getting Rowlandson to publish her captivity narrative, he also encourages the audience in the
preface to accept the work of Rowlandson, a woman. He even reminds the audience that Rowlandson
is the wife of a minister (Davis 58). By doing all of this, he is trying to make sure the audience does
not discredit her work simply because it was written by a woman. It is important to understand the
women s role in the Puritan society. The Puritans believe that a woman is Christ s bride, husband s
wife, a mother, and a good wife. Women in this time were required to obey and submit to men in
authority, especially their husbands (Davis 54). This is idea of submitting to husbands is biblical.
Ephesians 5: 22 24 states, Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is
head of the wife ... Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own
husbands in everything (The Bible). Since the Puritans studied the scripture and followed, it is
understandable why this is a Puritan belief. This idea of submitting is shown between Rowlandson and
her Indian master. She is aware of the consequences and wants to be in favor with him; therefore, she
used her Puritan ideology to gain favor (Davis 54). For example, in the ninth remove, Rowlandson
writes, At last he told me if I would make another shirt, for a papoose not yet born, he would give me
a knife, which he did when I had done it (280). In this passage, Rowlandson is submitting to her
master by making another shirt in order to receive a knife from him. Overall, in her narrative, it is seen
that Rowlandson stays true to the Puritan belief of women submitting to men, even though it is not her
husband. Many Puritans saw this captivity as a punishment for sins similar to the forty years of
wandering for the

How Did American Culture Affect The Changes In The 1920s
The rapid changes in America throughout the 1920s were defined by a multitude of events, people,

scientific fashion, nor record the surroundings, location, or precise measurements.
There are many different definitions for archeology, and here are a few: Archeology is the study of
human history and prehistory through the excavation of sites and the analysis of artifacts and other

This research uncovers the written records associated with the area of interest. In addition to primary
historical documents, archaeologists will look for site reports that have been prepared by other
archaeologists who have studied the area. These reports will often describe what was found in the area
during any previous archaeological investigations and will help guide the archeologists to new
discoveries. The archives today are stored on huge computer systems and can be recovered at anytime

Ancient Greece And Ancient Roman Empires Essay
In today s time people always say that everything that seems to be new is just really something remade
from the past. Throughout time and space works of art and literature spread around and are adapted to
what a certain culture needs. This glocalizing means taking the original form and manipulating it so it
can best fit the audience in which is viewing it. Whether it be translating something from one
language to another or even completely changing something that was intended for adults so it could be
easy for children to learn. Similarly, in the transition between the Ancient Greece and Ancient Roman
Empires so many aspects of the Grecian culture is adapted by the Romans but they glocalize it in
order to get more Romans on board with what the Greeks thought of. Even the Ancient Roman writer
and philosopher Seneca glocalized Euripides play Hippolytus. Despite the five hundred year time
difference between Euripides Hippolytus and Seneca s Phaedra, Seneca makes his best attempt to
copy the play but including aspects of the Roman culture he lived in. The culture gap between Ancient
Greece and Rome ultimately affects how the readers perceive the story and how different the two tales
actually are. Between 30 and 40 C.E. Seneca s writing started becoming increasingly popular
throughout the Roman Empire. On the other hand, many people did not support his philosophical
ideas such as stoicism. Seneca s stoic philosophy is defined as a philosophy that flourished in ancient

Fully Driverless Cars
The article I choose from WSJ this week is the developing of fully driverless cars. Back when I was in
high school, everyone was excited to get their driving license and drive to school instead of riding the
bus. But of course we had to complete the driver education class to get a permit before actually being
fully able to drive alone at certain hours of the day. Now, thinking about it, my children probably won
t even need a license, ever. They would even need to learn how to drive. Five years from now, Ford
plans to release a fully driverless car without a steering wheel or pedals. Can you imagine not having
control of something taking you places at different speeds, and having to fully trust other drivers on
the highway with you? Will the

Transformation Of The United States Army Essay
Transformation: Army Joining the United States Army was the most profound decision of my lifetime.
Experiencing life, the world, and combat through the mind and eyes of a soldier has influenced me in
ways that I had never conceived. These transformations, before, during, and after my military service
have ultimately shaped me into the man I am today. I do believe that if I had chosen not to join the
Army, today I would be a totally different person with completely different views and opinions.
Joining the United States Fighting forces is a decision that no one should take lightly. Before I made
the choice to join the army, it was the summer of 1998, I was a short 5 foot 7 inch tall 17 year old and
weighed about 140 lbs. soaking wet, which was typical of a poor country raised boy. Can t you do
anything right ? I remember the old stucco guy yelling at me, as I struggled to lift the 80lbs bag of
concrete mixture over my head to throw it into the fast spinning mixer. I was a young, immature, puny
kid who thought he was invincible. Common practice in young men those days was to play dumb and
not show others your intellectual capacity because real men had to be strong, fit, hardworking, and
stupid. Just to fit in, I played the part well. However, inside I dreamt of a career in medicine. I loved to
read, write, and play the piano. Life in the Galeote house for the oldest of 4 siblings wasn t exactly an
exuberant place to grow up. In hopes of gaining my father s acceptance

Adam Smith Greed
The Wealth of Nations
Can greed and self interest benefit our society s economy? majority of people would say, but one man
by the name of Adam Smith would ve disagreed. he believed that profit motive even greed could be

theory shined in the right light; justified is the best solution for the economy.
Entrepreneurs, individuals who come up with an plan in means of profit while knowing the risks that

Rhetorical Analysis Of Trifles
Alesha Jeter
Trifles Rhetoric Essay
5.30.17
The one act play Trifles, by Susan Glaspell, tells the story of a group of people attempting to figure
out the murder of a man in their neighborhood. The main suspect in the case is the man s wife and a
group of people from the town try to find any incriminating evidence against her in the home. There
are five characters in this play, the County Attorney Sheriff Peters, his wife, Mrs. Peters, Hale, a
farmer, and his wife, Mrs. Hale. This play thought to be one of the earliest examples of feminine
dramas. This is obviously due to the themes of feminism and female stereotypes present in the play.
Glaspell uses her power of rhetoric, though it is subtle, to make a point that women shall no longer be
neglected or glanced over even though they are at the same level, if not more equipped to do all of the
same things men can do. The topic of this play is clearly the capability of women to step out of their
stereotype for the time of the obedient wife. This is shown when Mrs. Peters and Mrs. Hale hide the
dead canary rather than showing it to the two men. They knew that if they showed the dead bird to the
men, then that would be all the information needed to make prove Mrs. Wright s guilt. John Wright
was strangled and everyone knew of his temper which would make it obvious that he killed the bird.
This, in turn, would make Mrs. Wright want to kill him. It is clear that Glaspell s stance on feminism
is adamant support for it. Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peter commit a crime of their own by hiding
incriminating evidence. Mrs. Peters is even worse off since she is the wife of the sheriff. Yet neither of
the women flinch as the bird is hidden from the men. They understand why Mrs. Wright would
possibly want to do such a thing and they do not think that it is right for her to be punished for
defending herself. Hiding the bird goes back into the theme of feminism because while the men
thought they had simply let their wives alone to do their women stuff the women had inadvertently
solved the case.
MRS. HALE It s a log cabin pattern. Pretty, isn t it? I wonder if she was goin to quilt it or just knot it?

Essay on The Mirroring Lives of a Jamaican and a Rastafarian
The Mirroring Lives of a Jamaican and a Rastafarian
Introduction
This paper is a series of two interviews that I had over the course of the semester. I used both of the
interviews as a series of research. I then used this research and supported it with published work. The
first interview occurred when I was in Jamaica. I randomly crossed paths with Peter. He informed my
friends and I that he was a Rastafarian. We spoke with him for about two hours on the beach. He
informed us about his religion and his lifestyle. Unaware at the time that I would use this knowledge
in my paper I am pleasantly surprised that I was able to transgress this information.
The second interview was with Marie Debal. She is one of my sister s clients. Upon ... Show more

Peter s response:
I do not come down here to Negril very often any more. When I was younger my friends and I would
come down and enjoy the beaches. Now this place is such a tourist trap.
Jamaicans are dressed like Rastafarians with their long dreads and try to pretend that they are like us.
They try and sell tourist anything from drugs to crafts. Please do not take what I am saying the wrong
way. It just makes me so frustrated when Jamaicans try to imitate the Rastafarian lifestyle. These
Jamaicans may have long dreads and look like a Rastafarians but they do not know what it is like to
truly live and be a Rastafarian.
Rastafarian culture is very different from a Jamaican. We live in the mountains away from the tourist
area. I spend all my days and nights waiting for the signs of Haile Selassie. I understand that these
Jamaicans have to make a living I just wished that they did not mimic our lifestyle.
Marie s response:
The difference between a Jamaican and a Rastafarian is probably similar to asking what is the
difference between an American and a Catholic. Rastafarians are people who reside in the mountains
of Jamaica and practice the Rastafari

  • 2. Cardiovascular System Vs Extravascular Compartment In humans the cardiovascular system (blood circulatory system, intravascular compartment) provides the function of the extravascular compartment (organs and tissues). Physical conditions (fluid dynamics) in these two compartments are different: the intravascular compartment (cardiovascular system) is dynamic with liquid (blood) circulation, whereas the extravascular compartment is static, the cells are fixed and liquid flow is minimal or absent. Blood mean velocity in different parts of the cardiovascular system (aorta, capillaries, veins) is from 0.03 sm/ sec to 40 cm/sec [44 46]. A bacterium of a 1µm size for one second travels with blood a distance that exceeds its body size from 300 to 400,000 times. For phagocytic leukocytes, the measuring time point for bacterial engulfment is from one to 15 minutes [47 50]. Phagocytosis requires a long time span and is possible in the extravascular compartment only (tissues, connective tissue, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The total number of leukocytes (20 30 million in peripheral blood) is not enough for bacteria clearing. Leukocytes are less than 0.1% of the blood cells, besides, only 68% of peripheral blood leukocytes are professional phagocytic cells [59]. As a result, bactericidal leukocytes are 0.068% of all blood cells and they have 1200 1500 times fewer chances to contact bacteria than other cells, particularly, erythrocytes [51, 52]. Neutrophils die after engulfing a few pathogens, their life span is form 13 hours to 5.4 days [60 62], whereas erythrocytes, circulating for 100 120 days, live 18 22 times longer than neutrophils [44, 45]. Bacteria are able to kill phagocytes [63 66] and for many pathogens, phagocytosis is indispensable for proliferation and dissemination [67 70]. These data demonstrate that phagocytosis have no bactericidal role in the blood and leukocytes do not provide bloodstream clearance from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Capital Punishment Capital Punishment Murder, a common occurrence in American society, is thought of as a horrible, reprehensible atrocity. Why then, is it thought of differently when the state government arranges and executes a human being, the very definition of premeditated murder? Capital punishment has been reviewed and studied for many years, exposing several inequities and weaknesses, showing the need for the death penalty to be abolished. Upon examination, one finds capital punishment to be economically weak and deficient. A common misconception of the death penalty is that the cost to execute a convicted criminal is cheaper than to place a convict in prison for life without parole. Due to the United States judicial system, the process of appeals, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whatever they need, they can get (Cummings). In addition to being racially prejudiced, capital punishment places innocent lives at risk. Recently in Chicago, a black man was released from death row after nearly sixteen years in prison. This man, Anthony Porter, came within two days of receiving a lethal injection, until the courts finally agreed hearing on his mental capacity. Porter was very lucky to receive an excellent attorney who managed to prove that Porter was innocent and led the police to a prisoner in Milwaukee who confessed (Kile). This shows the importance of the appeal process found in the courts, which serve to protect the lives of innocent citizens of the United States of America. A writer for The Christian Century writes, quot;Porter s case brings to light the very real danger that overzealous prosecutors, sloppy legal work and poor legal defense teams will send people to their deaths for crimes they didn t commit, quot; (Kile). If Porter had an equipped defense attorney from the start, he would never have been to prison and nearly killed. Ryan Cummings of The Economist observed that more crimes are punishable by execution, more states have adopted the death penalty and the appeals process has been shortened. The overall expansion of capital punishment endangers innocent lives. Cumulatively, there is now less time and fewer tools to save innocent men and women ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Monae s Metropolis Saga Monae s Metropolis Saga uses the cyborg as a metaphor for the oppressed, using cyborg bodies as a stand in for black bodies and consequently drawing connections between the state of blackness and the state of being cyborg. Monae herself speaks of her decision to choose an android because the android to [her] represents the other in our society. (Kot 1) This is made specific to blackness when, in the Metropolis Saga, Cindi time travels to the 20th and 21st centuries and is reborn as Janelle Monae, becoming black rebels throughout history; accordingly, the line between cyborg ontology and black ontology is blurred as she jumps between the two. If for Monae, black bodies are cyborg bodies, cyborg bodies have existed throughout history and cannot be situated solely in the future. Consequently, Metropolis as a city centered around Cindi s black cyborg body cannot be temporally alienated from history, and must reckon with it. More than that, though, Metropolis itself is not just a vision of the future but of the past, a transhistorical metaphor of oppression and liberation. This differs from traditional science fiction cyborg representations because for Haraway and many others, the cyborg exists within a future world. However, for Monae, the cyborg has always existed in the form of black bodies, and the science fiction world serves only to illuminate this. Accordingly, the transhistoricality is the only way that a cyborg can be raced and allows a raced cyborg to recognize and grapple with the dark history that birthed it for Cindi, this means time traveling to literally participate in, change, and solve her history. Perhaps this is best expressed by the name of Monae s upcoming album, presumably containing the last two suites of the Metropolis Saga, Dirty Computer. The computer is the android; however, the android retains its dirt, the dirt being the dark and dirty history of racializations and blackness her cyborg refuses to be pristine and reject that history, instead ... Spanglish Language Nowadays, with the globalization process, people are closer to get to know new languages and cultures because they can access more easily to a big variety of information all around the world. Being close to information is crucial in the languages world since people are already involved and contextualized in it, for instance; English is the Lingua Franca; it is everywhere: The Internet, books, advertisement, films and the like. In this understanding, English learning has become a necessity for some countries, especially those which are influenced politically, socially or even ideologically by English speaking countries. • 7. Mary Shelly and the Romantic Era The story written by Mary Shelly reflects the mood of the Romantic era in numerous ways. Some of these themes include views on science, changes in the weather across Europe, mistrust of advancements in science and the role of disease and death and the loneliness that resulted. The experiences of Shelly and even the setting and location where she formed the idea for Frankenstein display interesting themes of the time period. Disease and death were a common theme throughout the Romantic era. Not only did it affect Shelly s life directly, the topic of personal loss was evident throughout her novel. The murders of Victor s family and friends by the monster displayed this theme but it was also on display early in the book with Victor s mother catching the Scarlet Fever and dying after attending to Elizabeth during a bout of the same. Disease, tragedy and death seemed to be a sad but very common part of life during this time period. Interestingly, changes in the climate and weather of Europe were a key factor in the idea of Frankenstein coming about. Due to this inclement weather, a period of time was spent indoors by Mary, her husband and some of her friends. After discussions about ghost stories, gothic writings and reanimated corpses, Mary s imagination rose to the occasion and after a nightmare one night Frankenstein was born. As a side note, I also found the mood the Frankenstein book felt cold and gloomy throughout. Although the scenery ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The parliament appeals to the Scottish people and try to improve the Scottish economy. Visit Scotland directed at tourists and is rather stereotypical. They do not convey a true image of modern Scotland. They are trying to appeal to two different audiences but they are making mistakes and this is causing Scotland to suffer. Throughout this essay is going to contemplate and examine how both the Scottish Parliament and Visit Scotland have a direct and significant impact on how the image of modern day Scotland is portrayed. Visit Scotland and the tourist industry convey images of Scotland which show that people are always happy. These images are aimed at tourists in order to bring people to Scotland. There is a sense of community and belonging however are they only showing rural Scotland. The images of modern Scotland are not shown. This means that their images only show the countryside. They do not show the night life of Scotland and also what the cities are like. This may lead many people into believing that everyone in Scotland own sheep and live in cottages and that they are miles away from shops. This is very stereotypical. The Nullification Crisis and Its Effects on the United States The Nullification Crisis, which transpired under Andrew Jackson s administration created a controversy not only during its time, but also in the years to follow and ultimately was one of the many causes of the Civil War years later. The Nullification crisis soon developed in the early 1830 s when the state of South Carolina began to have issues with the protective tariff (which was designed to protect the industry in the northern United States by taxing imports). At this point in history, many of the leaders of South Carolina were under the idea that a state did not have to follow a federal law and could nullify the law. One of the more powerful men in advocating of the south was John C. Calhoun, who was an experienced politician at the time. Many believe that Calhoun s ideas were the precursor to the session crisis that ultimately triggered the Civil War around 30 years later. Although a solution was established to resolve the tension between the North and the South, the issue resurfaced over the issue of slavery a few years later due to the South once again becoming angered at certain actions of the President. In conclusion, the Nullification Crisis contributed to the Civil War for many different reasons. For one, President Jackson s main goal was to preserve the Union and avoid war at any cost. However, the Nullification Crisis created tension between the North and the South, which would later boil over to the point of war. Furthermore, the North was a manufacturing community, as well as being significantly larger than the South. The South was an agricultural society, meaning that they were dependent on the North for manufactured goods. Tensions rose between the North and South because the North was not only benefiting from the protective tariff, but they were making money from the South s need for manufactured goods for farming. In the end, the protective tariff showed that if the North could inflict a tariff on the South, then the North (have a significantly larger population) could end slavery (which was the South s main form of wealth). By enabling a cycle of monetary allocations dictating scientific research and not the other way around, as it objectively should be the potential of less conventional or longer term research cannot hope to be realized, as the research is stunted in its infancy if it does not look auspicious in the short term for financial returns. The Importance Of Social Class In America Social class largely affects the ways of life of all Americans These divisions of social class are characterized by viewpoints, for example, lifestyle and income but education is a huge part of deciding one s social class. That does not imply that it will decide a person s achievements but with many individuals with higher education normally have better jobs with benefits and higher wages too. Those of the privileged have higher education rather than those of middle and lower class. Around 14% of mortgage holders are either behind on their home payments or are putting up for foreclosure. The economic crash and foreclosure crisis that occurred in 2008 was not made by one issue but rather a blend of issues. People obtained more than they could bear the cost of however they were permitted, and now and again empowered, to do this by bankers which institutions that should be helping the people to finance. During the organization of a social movement, framing was as a way to assign meaning (McAdam, 339) or look at events in ways that could inspire support from both group members and the common people while subjugating the opposing party. McAdam (339) states, Mediating between opportunity and action are people and the... meanings they attach to their situations. The events that occur during the rise of a social movement all present opportunities to help members achieve their goal but in order to even act upon these opportunities, the people involved must frame their situation in a way that will draw support to their cause. During the Civil Rights movement, the use of framing, on both sides, greatly influenced the outcome of social reform. McAdam states that there are six strategies social movement groups can employ to bring about change. In the case of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), even though blacks could now vote legal subterfuge and extralegal intimidation prevented them from taking part of political reform in the south (McAdam, 345). Helen Bennett It is perhaps part of the unique genius of T.S. Eliot s The Waste Land that both critics and lay readers have repeatedly felt forced to look outside the published text of the poem for clues as to its meaning. The text s fragmented, seemingly violated body seems to exhibit wounds through which its significance has slipped, creating a difficulty caused by the author s having left out something which the reader is used to finding; so that the reader, bewildered, gropes about for what is absent...a kind of meaning which is not there, and is not meant to be there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Asked to describe what sort of life might spring up out of the stony rubbish (20) of the poem s sterile landscape by an interlocutor who seems by the force of the allusion to Ezekiel to be a representative of some sort of transcendent reality, there seems to be no way for the poet to answer. The speaker continues in almost accusatory tone: You cannot say, or guess, for you know only/ A heap of broken images (21 22), and it is in this line that Eliot questions the potential for meaning inherent in language. The self is unable to explicate the nature of this life for his only language is a mere heap a disordered pile of broken images . Here Eliot describes language as representation, and in this mode it is doubly useless; first, because it is broken , fragmented and divorced from the very realities it was intended to describe, and second, because it consists of mere images representations of things and not the things themselves. One might argue that language, though only a heap of broken images, does achieve a certain reflexivity here, for in that disordered pile of reflections lies a landscape where the sun beats,/ And the dead tree gives no shelter, the cricket no relief (22 23). But the space that language presents here is a sterile, dead one, without evidence of the growth of either root or branch. The Body By Steven King Analysis How does a child receive the necessary parental guidance growing up if their parents and all other adults in their life are abusive, neglectful, and at best uninvolved? Throughout Steven King s novella The Body it becomes evident that children will try to find guidance in almost anything. But, as King demonstrates in his novella, the most common source of guidance comes from a child s friends. All four boys, Gordie, Teddy, Vern, and Chris replace the rolls of their parents by comforting, protecting, and counselling each other through tough times. First, the boys replace the guidance rolls of their parents by comforting each other. This can be scene multiple times throughout the novella and probably produces some of the most dramatic scenes in the Novella. The boys comfort each other in multiple ways with the most common way of comfort being through words. At the dump, when Milo and Teddy have the whole name calling incident, Teddy is cut deep emotionally by Milo s rude comments about his father. This is where King implements the first dose of parental comfort from a friend into the story. Walking along the tracks after leaving the dump, Teddy breaks down and begins to sob, this is when Chris steps in to comfort Teddy. • 35. Mary Rowlandson s Captivity Narrative Analysis Mary Rowlandson s captivity narrative was published anonymously by someone who wanted to protect Rowlandson as a woman author. Davis writes, the publisher claims credit for persuading this modest woman to allow publication of her private material and gives credibility to a work that would not be allowed to stand on its own because of its female author (58). While the publisher takes credit for getting Rowlandson to publish her captivity narrative, he also encourages the audience in the preface to accept the work of Rowlandson, a woman. He even reminds the audience that Rowlandson is the wife of a minister (Davis 58). By doing all of this, he is trying to make sure the audience does not discredit her work simply because it was written by a woman. It is important to understand the women s role in the Puritan society. The Puritans believe that a woman is Christ s bride, husband s wife, a mother, and a good wife. Women in this time were required to obey and submit to men in authority, especially their husbands (Davis 54). This is idea of submitting to husbands is biblical. Ephesians 5: 22 24 states, Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife ... Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything (The Bible). Since the Puritans studied the scripture and followed, it is understandable why this is a Puritan belief. This idea of submitting is shown between Rowlandson and her Indian master. She is aware of the consequences and wants to be in favor with him; therefore, she used her Puritan ideology to gain favor (Davis 54). For example, in the ninth remove, Rowlandson writes, At last he told me if I would make another shirt, for a papoose not yet born, he would give me a knife, which he did when I had done it (280). In this passage, Rowlandson is submitting to her master by making another shirt in order to receive a knife from him. Overall, in her narrative, it is seen that Rowlandson stays true to the Puritan belief of women submitting to men, even though it is not her husband. Sigmund Freud illustrates the feeling of the uncanny in his essay The Uncanny as a species of the frightening that goes back to what was once well known and had long been familiar 8. In other words, the uncanny arises when something feels unhomely or strange but was familiar and comfortable before. This is depicted by the English translation of the word into foreign and other like terms. When something feels unheimlich it conveys feelings of the uncanny due to alienation rather than pure fright. • 40. Archeology In Raiders Of The Lost Ark Definition of Archeology Uninformed people might think that archaeology is the stuff of Indiana Jones, the character played by Harrison Ford in the classic 1981 Movie entitled Raiders of the Lost Ark. In this movie, Jones was an adventurer and so called archaeologist who sought a golden idol. Jones did not proceed in an orderly, scientific fashion, nor record the surroundings, location, or precise measurements. There are many different definitions for archeology, and here are a few: Archeology is the study of human history and prehistory through the excavation of sites and the analysis of artifacts and other physical remains says one source, It is an area of science that studies people and animals from the past and the things they ... • 41. Ancient Greece And Ancient Roman Empires Essay In today s time people always say that everything that seems to be new is just really something remade from the past. Throughout time and space works of art and literature spread around and are adapted to what a certain culture needs. This glocalizing means taking the original form and manipulating it so it can best fit the audience in which is viewing it. Whether it be translating something from one language to another or even completely changing something that was intended for adults so it could be easy for children to learn. Similarly, in the transition between the Ancient Greece and Ancient Roman Empires so many aspects of the Grecian culture is adapted by the Romans but they glocalize it in order to get more Romans on board with what the Greeks thought of. Even the Ancient Roman writer and philosopher Seneca glocalized Euripides play Hippolytus. Despite the five hundred year time difference between Euripides Hippolytus and Seneca s Phaedra, Seneca makes his best attempt to copy the play but including aspects of the Roman culture he lived in. The culture gap between Ancient Greece and Rome ultimately affects how the readers perceive the story and how different the two tales actually are. Between 30 and 40 C.E. Seneca s writing started becoming increasingly popular throughout the Roman Empire. On the other hand, many people did not support his philosophical ideas such as stoicism. • 42. Fully Driverless Cars The article I choose from WSJ this week is the developing of fully driverless cars. Back when I was in high school, everyone was excited to get their driving license and drive to school instead of riding the bus. But of course we had to complete the driver education class to get a permit before actually being fully able to drive alone at certain hours of the day. Now, thinking about it, my children probably won t even need a license, ever. They would even need to learn how to drive. Five years from now, Ford plans to release a fully driverless car without a steering wheel or pedals. Can you imagine not having control of something taking you places at different speeds, and having to fully trust other drivers on the highway with you? Will the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Transformation Of The United States Army Essay Transformation: Army Joining the United States Army was the most profound decision of my lifetime. Experiencing life, the world, and combat through the mind and eyes of a soldier has influenced me in ways that I had never conceived. These transformations, before, during, and after my military service have ultimately shaped me into the man I am today. I do believe that if I had chosen not to join the Army, today I would be a totally different person with completely different views and opinions. Joining the United States Fighting forces is a decision that no one should take lightly. Before I made the choice to join the army, it was the summer of 1998, I was a short 5 foot 7 inch tall 17 year old and weighed about 140 lbs. soaking wet, which was typical of a poor country raised boy. Can t you do anything right ? I remember the old stucco guy yelling at me, as I struggled to lift the 80lbs bag of concrete mixture over my head to throw it into the fast spinning mixer. I was a young, immature, puny kid who thought he was invincible. Common practice in young men those days was to play dumb and not show others your intellectual capacity because real men had to be strong, fit, hardworking, and stupid. Just to fit in, I played the part well. However, inside I dreamt of a career in medicine. I loved to read, write, and play the piano. • 46. Rhetorical Analysis Of Trifles Alesha Jeter Trifles Rhetoric Essay 5.30.17 The one act play Trifles, by Susan Glaspell, tells the story of a group of people attempting to figure out the murder of a man in their neighborhood. The main suspect in the case is the man s wife and a group of people from the town try to find any incriminating evidence against her in the home. There are five characters in this play, the County Attorney Sheriff Peters, his wife, Mrs. Peters, Hale, a farmer, and his wife, Mrs. Hale. This play thought to be one of the earliest examples of feminine dramas. This is obviously due to the themes of feminism and female stereotypes present in the play. Glaspell uses her power of rhetoric, though it is subtle, to make a point that women shall no longer be neglected or glanced over even though they are at the same level, if not more equipped to do all of the same things men can do. The topic of this play is clearly the capability of women to step out of their stereotype for the time of the obedient wife. This is shown when Mrs. Peters and Mrs. Hale hide the dead canary rather than showing it to the two men. They knew that if they showed the dead bird to the men, then that would be all the information needed to make prove Mrs. Wright s guilt. John Wright was strangled and everyone knew of his temper which would make it obvious that he killed the bird. This, in turn, would make Mrs. Wright want to kill him. It is clear that Glaspell s stance on feminism is adamant support for it. Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peter commit a crime of their own by hiding incriminating evidence. Mrs. Peters is even worse off since she is the wife of the sheriff. Yet neither of the women flinch as the bird is hidden from the men. They understand why Mrs. Wright would possibly want to do such a thing and they do not think that it is right for her to be punished for defending herself. Hiding the bird goes back into the theme of feminism because while the men thought they had simply let their wives alone to do their women stuff the women had inadvertently solved the case. MRS. HALE It s a log cabin pattern. Pretty, isn t it? I wonder if she was goin to quilt it or just knot it? (Footsteps have been heard coming down the stairs. The SHERIFF enters ... • 47. Essay on The Mirroring Lives of a Jamaican and a Rastafarian The Mirroring Lives of a Jamaican and a Rastafarian Introduction This paper is a series of two interviews that I had over the course of the semester. I used both of the interviews as a series of research. I then used this research and supported it with published work. The first interview occurred when I was in Jamaica. I randomly crossed paths with Peter. He informed my friends and I that he was a Rastafarian. We spoke with him for about two hours on the beach. He informed us about his religion and his lifestyle. Unaware at the time that I would use this knowledge in my paper I am pleasantly surprised that I was able to transgress this information. The second interview was with Marie Debal. She is one of my sister s clients. Upon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Peter s response: I do not come down here to Negril very often any more. When I was younger my friends and I would come down and enjoy the beaches. Now this place is such a tourist trap. Jamaicans are dressed like Rastafarians with their long dreads and try to pretend that they are like us. They try and sell tourist anything from drugs to crafts. Please do not take what I am saying the wrong way. It just makes me so frustrated when Jamaicans try to imitate the Rastafarian lifestyle. These Jamaicans may have long dreads and look like a Rastafarians but they do not know what it is like to truly live and be a Rastafarian. Rastafarian culture is very different from a Jamaican. We live in the mountains away from the tourist area. I spend all my days and nights waiting for the signs of Haile Selassie. I understand that these Jamaicans have to make a living I just wished that they did not mimic our lifestyle. Marie s response: The difference between a Jamaican and a Rastafarian is probably similar to asking what is the difference between an American and a Catholic. Rastafarians are people who reside in the mountains of Jamaica and practice the Rastafari ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
