Treatment Of Patients With Renal Failure
Every year more and more patients are diagnosed with renal failure. In hemodialysis the amount of
dialysis each patient receives is less, compared to at home dialysis and nocturnal dialysis treatments.
Kidneys are important organs for survival. Humans cannot filter harmful wastes, fluids, salts,
potassium, and phosphorus without kidneys. When diagnosed with renal failure a patient relies on a
dialysis machine to adequately remove the harmful wastes from their blood. One of the main ongoing
battles between dialysis patients and their providers is adequate fluid control. There are
recommendations set out for patients to follow but with weather getting hotter each year, patients are
finding it harder to abide by the rules due to excess ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Between 1943 and 1945, Dr. Willem Kolff finished his invention and tested the machine on 16
patients, but had unsuccessful trials. Around 1945, he treated a 67 year old who successfully woke up
from a coma, after being on hemodialysis for 11 hours. With all the new advancements today,
successful outcomes should be the first thing doctors think of, rather than, focusing on the number of
patients nephrology can schedule in. Lupus is another concern that nephrology faces which affect all
races and has made it more of a challenge for doctors throughout the years. In most cases, patients
with end stage renal disease and lupus get separated from the other patients because they are classified
as higher risk. Antonio Inda Filho, et al., believe that The development of lupus related end stage renal
disease (ESRD) confers the highest mortality rates among individuals with lupus (590). Unfortunately,
this is true only when doctors are unable to stabilize systemic lupus. This should not be a debatable
topic, nephrologist need to communicate with rheumatology and come up with an aggressive dialysis
plan, which will not only assist in the removal of the harmful toxins, but will also help with
stabilization. Antonio Inda Filho, et al., addressed that The complication alterations contributes to the
speeding process of atherosclerosis and a higher chance of infection (591). End stage renal disease

A Brief Note On Bar Code Medication Administration Essay
Bar Code Medication Administration in the Emergency Department The major concept in the
healthcare setting is patient safety in health service quality. One of the most common medical errors
that affect patient safety and health outcomes is medication errors. Medication errors in the emergency
department (ED) can be caused by many things such as poor penmanship, confusion of drugs with the
same names, confusion between dosing units and incorrect calculations of dosages (Silverman, 2014).
Bar code medication administration (BCMA) technology has been implemented in several different
EDs to reduce medications administration errors. The purpose of this paper is to describe
intradepartmental improvements that can be made to increase patient safety and compliance by
nursing staff with medication administration in the ED setting.
Addressing the Issue To determine the level of competency of nurses during medication
administration facilities should provide competency exams to nurses that focus on medications
administration procedures. Competency and education of medication administration in nurses should
be assessed during orientation and on a yearly basis. Medication administration is one of the most
common duties nurses have in hospitals. According to the New Zealand Medical Journal, most of the
injuries and adverse reactions that result from the wrong medications or doses given could have been
prevented through safer medication practices and education (p 63). The Institute for

Essay On Sonnet 130
William Shakespeare s Sonnet 130 and John Milton s Methought I saw my Late Espouséd Saint are
both sonnets that adapt the Petrarchan tradition of the donna angelica. The poems both use the
traditional sonnet structure, use imagery to describe a specific kind of beauty and were both written in
the Early modern period when the Petrarchan tradition was popular. In spite of this, both Sonnet 130
and Methought I Saw My Late Espouséd Saint avert from the Petrarchan tradition of donna angelica
with a more women friendly approach. ....
In both Shakespeare s Sonnet 130 and in the Petrarchan tradition of donna angelica women are
described with the help of imagery, but instead of the idealisation found in the Petrarchan tradition, the
comparison s in Sonnet 130 are more reasonable. This shifts away from the misrepresentation of
women as unblemished characters found in the Petrarchan tradition. The speaker in ... Show more

poem. Shakespeare mocks the Petrarchan tradition by taking a popular notion for comparison, which
is music and twisting it around. Shakespeare averts the imagery away from the notion of comparing a
female voice to music, to a more commonsensible comparison. He does this by saying that he loves
his mistress s voice, but counterarguments that music has a far more pleasing sound (l,10). In the last
two lines, (l.13 14) the speaker criticizes the donna angelica. . The lines conclude what the speaker is
trying to tell his mistress throughout the poem. That unlike the false and over exaggerating
comparisons found in the donna angelica, the speaker does not need that, to prove his love. The
speaker emphasizes on the fact that even though his mistress isn t as ideal as the women that are
compared in the donna angelica, he loves his mistress nonetheless. As any she belied with false
compare (l.14) concludes that the whole poem has been a donna angelica mockery.

Material Analysis of the Internal Combustion Engine
Background : The foundry is one of the oldest metal working industries known to man. The Egyptians
made metal castings as early as 4000 B.C. Foundry methods have been employed throughout the ages
as being the most convenient means for making implements of war, artifacts used in everyday living,
agricultural implements, and other items. Traditionally, Gasoline engine blocks were made up of cast
iron because cast iron was readily available and cheaper and has a good machinability. But as the
technology advances and there is a need of improvising the basic design of an engine to improve its
performance. Moreover, the overall weight of the engine increased due to complex design of the body.
Therefore, in order to overcome this problems, the manufacturers around the world started looking for
other materials which are as strong as cast iron but should be light in weight. Therefore, aluminum
was being used in building engine blocks which significantly increases vehicle performance and also
lower its weight. Now a days magnesium is also used as a material for designing engine block.
Magnesium is much lighter than cast iron and aluminum as well. But the main problem in using
magnesium was that it became unstable at higher temperature. Later that problem was solved but still
wide range of Al and Mg alloys are being used in the automotive industry in the current scenario.
According to a study, 90% of automobiles in North American countries are using aluminum for engine
block which is

Fiscal Policy ( Private And Public )
For any economy, fiscal policy has two primary goals, an economic goal and a social goal. Regarding
the economic goal, fiscal policy has to ensure suitable and sustainable economic growth rates that
maintain unemployment rate at its natural level and at the same time do not generate inflationary
pressures. At social level, on the other hand, fiscal policy has to ensure a degree of equity regarding
the distribution of incomes in the economy, and to direct considerable part of available resources
toward essential investments that provide necessary goods and services consumed mainly by the vast
majority of population.
3.1 Evaluating the Economic Role of Fiscal Policy
Investment spending (private and public) is the main engine to stimulate economic growth. Securing
adequate savings is a prerequisite for any investment spending; however, investment projects need not
just to secure adequate funding to cover their investment costs during construction periods, as they
also need to secure adequate demand for their production to cover operational costs and to obtain
appropriate return on investment during operational periods. While fiscal policy is playing a
significant role in securing requirements of investment, domestic savings and aggregate demand for
domestic production; then it is considered a governor element in determining the extent of investment
prosperity and indispensible tool in correcting the imbalance between domestic investment,
consumption and savings.

Describe The Economic And Social Changes In Succession...
From 1850 to 1930 Sweden lived deep changes, but all social improvements occurred with different
political situation that came in succession during the years. In 1867 the old liberals founded the
Ministerial Party with the objective to defend the reforms. A little group of people created the
Neoliberal Party that proposed both economic freedom and more cultural and political freedoms (such
as more rights for women and an increasing democracy). In any event the dominant party was the
Rural Men s Party. It defended the farmer interests, even if the Rural Men s Party had some liberal
elements. Indeed it wanted reduce the taxes and give more power to people who weren t in the
Stockholm establishment. So at the end all were liberals, but the liberalism

Essay Biological Explanations of Criminal Behaviour
Crime theories are still in a development stage; it is an evolutionary process that continues to this day.
Crime is still a complex and misunderstood phenomenon with no concrete evidence when it comes to
human behavior. Throughout time there have been endless amounts of crime theories, few of which
revolve around biological explanations. We have Cesare Lombroso and the Positive School who
thought that criminals were genetically different from the rest of the general population, that they were
biologically aggressive, had criminal traits and/or born as criminals. There is also William Sheldon s
theory of body types, called the somatotype theory, that argued the mesomorph body type to be the
most prone to commit crime or deviant behavior. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sheldon created the idea of the three different body types and concluded mesomorphs, the more
muscular and athletic body type, is more prone to commit crime and deviant behavior. Although he
did not take into consideration that many prisoners lift weights while in prison and that the more
muscular individuals usually win the fight (Cartwright, 2012). The twin adoption studies were used by
behavioral geneticists to identify genetic and environmental influences underlying human behavioral
and physical variations. Although there were many detractors of the twin adoption studies themselves
and their results. There were troubles finding subjects which lead to a reduced power of result and
inconsistency of the methods used for the operation. In contemporary biological explanations there are
still works appearing and being developed, such as, the role of DNA, nutrition, body chemistry and
ecological factors in human behavior (Gado, 2004). Most of these are either still being developed, like
DNA, or were discredited along with the works of Lombroso, like nutrition. Although biological
explanations may not have made a momentous improvement since the 18th century, arguments within
biological explanations have expanded. There are many theories that argue if human behavior is
predetermined at birth, or learned by influences. Nature versus nurture,

Cover Letter Reflection
Resume and Cover Letter Reflection Writing a resume and cover letter seems intuitively easy at the
first glance. Not much to it, just list all that s required, and you should be good to go. Yet this
assignment opened my eyes on how much detail can collude with results. When I started this
assignment, I listed everything as I thought it should be. But trouble to arise was when I read the
resume back to myself. One challenge I faced was to word things in an order, so they are short and
concise, yet descriptive enough to understand. Every time I thought I was being descriptive, it tends
out to be either too long or too confusing for anyone but myself to understand. there s a continuous
process of editing, re editing, and editing some more. There

New York s Fresh Kills Landfill
The city that never sleeps also happens to be a city that has an enormous garbage problem that it needs
to solve. Whether this problem it be due to a mismanagement of resources from the beginning or
stemming from the throw away culture of today, New York is in a situation where its trash is piling up
and it s pawning it off on others to discard of it. New York City, like most cities across the United
Sates utilizes landfills to dispose of their waste. Fresh Kills Landfill opened in 1948 and was only
intended to be a temporary landfill used for 20 years, however by 1955 it became the largest landfill in
the world as it was turned into New York s primary dumping ground for the second half of the 20th
century. At the peak of operation Fresh Kills was receiving twenty barges carry 650 tons of waste each
and every day. In March of 2001 Fresh Kills reached capacity and with the urging of the United States
Environmental Protection Agency and local residents it was shut down. That left a big question for the
Department of Sanitation as to what to do with New York City and its surrounding boroughs trash?

Today, garbage is collected with highly polluting diesel fueled trucks and then that garbage is brought
to transfer stations where the waste is then sorted and transported to another solid waste management
facility for further processing, treatment, transfer or disposal. This process is again handled using
highly polluting diesel fueled trucks that ship it to landfills and waste to energy incinerators in other
states. The long term plan introduced is to reduce costs drastically increasing recycling which in turn
will reduce waste and to build a waterfront transfer system in order to be less dependent upon the
highly polluting diesel trucks and use barges hauling containers to ship garbage and also trains to
transfer the waste. (Transfer

Case Study Of Renault
Renault is French automotive manufacturer founded in 1899 by the Renault brothers in Boulogne
Billancourt. The company is now employing about 127,000 people all around the world.
Since 1999, Renault is linked to the Japanese automotive manufacturer Nissan trough an alliance, to
become the world fourth largest automotive group.
However, after several chess, the group decided to review its strategies and hire a new CEO.
Therefore, the company hired Carlos Ghosn as the new CEO of the group. He quickly established a
new strategy for Renault and he also wanted to implement a brand oriented strategy of a more global
perspective than before.
In February 2014, Carlos Ghosn presented his mid term review of the strategic plan for the group.

As I mentioned above, suicides at Renault marked the minds of management team, but not only from a
human point of view, also from a marketing point of view.
Indeed another suicide took place on the workplace at Renault Cleon near Rouen (France), the
employee left a note before his suicide that said: Thank you Renault, thank you for the years of
pressure, blackmail to work at night... Where the right to strike does not exist, do not protest or you

Renault denied all charges about this case. Since the current crisis at Renault and the new director, all

including more complex cadences of restructuration taking crisis apologize.
Renault previously was seen as a model for workers with many unions and full use, with many

destruction of hundreds jobs.

A Rose For Emily Modernism
Throughout the short story A Rose for Emily , by William Faulkner, the new generation tries to
enforce modern standards on Miss Emily and her contemporaries. Despite their best efforts, the older
generation remains cemented in traditional values. The older generation faces a slow, tragic, rotting
death similar to Miss Emily s if they continue to adhere to tradition in a modern age.
Miss Emily is a contemporary of the older generation and her refusal to pay taxes demonstrates how
the adherence to tradition in the face of modern change leads to a slow death. The older generation
and by extension Miss Emily refuse to conform to modern standards because they are bound by
history and tradition. Social rank and and status heavily influence ... Show more content on

Her entire life has been based on southern tradition implemented by the old generation, all of her
decisions in life have been made in order to correctly conform to that tradition. If she conforms to
modern standards, she loses all of the power and respect that was entitled to her. So, she does not
conform, she gets rid of the new generation in order to keep herself sequested away from modern
change. She protects herself from them so she can continue to live in denial that any change is
necessary. For Miss Emily modern chage is unwanted and tradition is used to justify her denial. Miss
Emily allows southern tradition to fester within herself, She looked bloated, like a body long
submerged in motionless water, and of that pallied hue (220). She is barely living. Miss Emily no
longer ventures outside, she is a walking corpse dwelling within a mousoleum structured to keep her
rooted in southern tradition. She may have died of natural causes but it was not free of suffering. Miss
Emily was slowly dying because she sequested heself away from any modern changes like paying her
taxes. She cut herself off from the rest of the world in order to conform to tradition. Miss Emily s slow
march towards death is the same march the older generation faces. Just as Miss Emily refuses to give
up her status and entitlement so do the older generation. Modern laws will be establish to blur the lines

Analysis Of Scrappy Little Nobody
Memoir 1 Anna Kendrick I Remember Every Slight: You ve Been Warned and Mike and Anna Take
New York , are two excerpts from the book Scrappy Little Nobody, by Anna Kendrick. Kendrick uses
detailed stories to recreate a picture of her childhood, including memories of sleepovers, school bullies
, and bus trips to New York. Anna Kendrick also mentions people that were part of her life, such as her
parents sending her and her brother to New York for an audition, and Tori the bully who tried to steal
all of her friends. Kendrick expresses her anger when Tori frames her for insulting her friends, and
shares about the excitement she felt when she landed her first acting job. All of this being told from a
first person point of view. Anna Kendrick uses idioms and superlative word choice along with an
overall humourous tone. Figurative language that was used included, I shouldn t get too excited. I
shouldn t count my chickens. , and the metaphor that caught my eye was when she compared
underneath the slide on the playground to a Victorian asylum. One noteworthy phrase was It became
less about alleged betrayal and more about their aversion to hyperactive little weirdos. Kendrick

Essay about The Existence of God
We go through life drifting from one superficial disagreement to another without truly ever taking the
time to ponder about the meaning of life. Such a question will not be easily resolved but by trying to
answer it we stop daydreaming and extend our conception of ourselves while gaining knowledge of
the external world (Solomon 10). Unfortunately anyone who attempts to answer that question quickly
realizes that it isn t just one broad question but rather it s the slogan to an overwhelming amount of
enquiries. Out of all possible question the one that has had the most influence on humanity is the
notion of whether or not God exists. Philosophers and non philosophers alike from ancient
civilizations to our modern era have contributed their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Let s start with the fact that God is powerful enough to control human thought and action to such a
point that if he truly desired it we would not doubt his existence. Nevertheless such a doubt does exist
so it can be established that humanity has the capacity to choose a course of action from among
various other alternatives (Free Will) . Having that ability in conjunction to what many philosophers
claim to be a naturally selfish human nature results in a combination were the prevailing outcome is
human suffering. However not all suffering is a result of human action or inaction which brings us to
the following point.
Natural disasters and diseases that claim the lives of tens of thousands cannot be easily explained with
a concept such as free will. Not having an obvious explanation doesn t signify that there exists no
solution but rather that there are limitations to human knowledge. Take for example the vast
uncertainty surrounding certain scientific and mathematical matters of fact when many, if not all
philosophers, can agree that is attainable knowledge. If that restraint exists for such topics than the
likelihood that we will know or understand what God is like is considerably higher. For example we
cannot begin to understand the scope of divine love since the best indication that we have is human
love which oscillates over time or is easily broken.
God as already defined transcends our experience so how exactly can his existence be proven when all

The Three Goddesses In The Trojan War
The Trojan War was ultimately caused by a petty conflict between three Goddesses Aphrodite, Pallas
Athena, and Hera. While attending a party they discovered a golden apple with the words for the
fairest carved in it. They all believed themselves to be the fairest, so to determine who would get the
apple they needed a judge. Their first choice was Zeus, but he wisely declined, and instead, pointed
them in the direction of Mount. Ida near Troy, where Prince Paris an excellent judge of beauty was
doing shepherd s work. The three went to Paris, but instead of having him look at them to choose the
prettiest, they all offered him a bribe and told him to choose the Goddess who offered the best thing
(248). Hera promised to make him an Emperor of Europe and Asia. Athena said that he would lead the
Trojans to victory against the Greeks. Aphrodite promised him the love of the fairest mortal on Earth.
Although it was not an easy decision for him, Paris chose love and gave the golden apple to
Aphrodite. This decision is what is said to be the cause of the long and famous Trojan War (249).
2. The Goddess of Discord, Eris, caused trouble by throwing the golden apple that said for the fairest

Bruce Dawe The Homecoming Analysis

The Theme Of Money In My Mortal Enemy By Willa Cather
There are many themes and symbols shown throughout My Mortal Enemy by Willa Cather, from love
to marriages, and choices. The motif I want to analyze is the motif of money. Money is used
throughout the whole book, it used to help persuade decisions, it characterizes their lavish lifestyle,
and it is what caused Oswald to become Myra s mortal enemy.
Myra, being an orphan child was raised by her great uncle, John Driscoll, who grew up a poor boy and
made his fortune employing contract labor in the Mississippi swamps (10). The novel describes their
lavish lifestyle in which they lived in a grand house on a ten acre park and was the finest property in
Parthia. Mr. Driscoll had fast horses that made national record, and Myra would throw balls and
garden parties, where she would have the band play their music (10). Myra s aunt said that Myra had
everything: dresses and jewels, a fine riding horse, a Steinway piano , and how her uncle took her to
Ireland and had her painted by one of the famous painters there (10 11).
At a youthful age, Myra did not care about money, though she cared about love. She fell in love with a
gentleman named Oswald Henshawe, but Mr. Driscoll had an old grudge of some sort with Oswald
father, and Driscoll did not like the idea Myra and Oswald being together. Oswald had left Parthia and
went to college at Harvard; he then moved to New York and after two years he was in the position to
get married (12). Then he wrote to John Driscoll for Myra s hand in

Esterification Of Its Alcohol And Carboxylic Acid Components
Esterification
Aim
The aim of this practical is to produce the ester, 3 methylbutyl ethanoate (isoamyl acetate) through
esterification of its alcohol and carboxylic acid components. This will require expert understanding
and operation of reflux, isolation and distillation processes.
Procedure
Reflux Assemble apparatus for reflux as shown in figure 1. Begin pre heating mantle. Measure and
add 12mL of butan 1 ol and 9mL of ethanoic acid (glacial acetic acid) into a 50mL boiling flask. Add
boiling chips. Slowly add 1mL of concentrated sulphuric acid. Reflux mixture for 30 40 minutes;
ensure smooth boiling. Pour cooled refluxed mixture into a conical flask; apply stopper.
Isolation
Pour cooled mixture into a separating funnel containing 20mL of water. Shake and allow contents of
solution to separate into layers. Determine the aqueous (non organic) layer by observing the addition
of a drop of distilled water. Discard the aqueous layer, retaining the organic layer in the separating
funnel. Add 10mL of sodium carbonate solution, shake gently and allow effervescence to occur.
Discard aqueous layer, wash with 20mL distilled water. Decant organic solution into a conical flask
containing fused calcium chloride. Stopper, swirl and allow to stand for 15 minutes.
Distillation
Assemble distillation apparatus as shown in figure 2, begin pre heating mantle. Decant organic

prisoners of war. The series mainly focuses on six young Australian men giving an insight of each
character s deepest struggle within the camp. There are many themes evident within the episodes,
Seeing is believing, Curley, Private Bill and Pacifying the angels. Some of which include power and
atrocities of war. These themes are also apparent throughout Edward Zwick s 2006 film Blood
Diamond , which is about a country torn apart by the struggle of the government and rebel forces.

Japanese commander just performed on Lofty Morgan. Similarly this theme is articulated within the
episode Pacifying the angles . Within this episode, the Japanese men lose control after their defeat in
the war, therefore resulting in their anger being released through a massacre on the POW s. The
technique of a bird s eye view is used to illustrate the atrocity of war the Japanese people performed
on the POW s. The theme of the atrocities of war is also performed within Edward Zwick s 2006 film
blood diamond . Within a specific scene the R.U.F is shown teaching young kid s to kill those who do
not respect them. This is evident through the quotation aimed to the children, shed their blood . The
use of descriptive language within the previous statement accentuates the atrocity of war that is being
brought upon the children. The scene turns into a massacre which is viewed through a bird s eye view,
also to accentuate the atrocity of war that is being performed on the innocent villagers. In culmination
it is evident that the themes of power and atrocities of war have been efficaciously embodied
throughout John Doyle s Changi miniseries as well as Edward

Transgressions In Mervyn Leroy s The Bad Seed
While the conclusion tacked onto the end of The Bad Seed didn t manage to change some of the less
obvious themes in Mervyn LeRoy s 1956 film, the new ending put in place by conservative lobby
groups affects the portrayal of transgressions from societal standards and taboos. The dramatic
difference in the ending gives the film a strong message that transgressions can only be righted
through an act of god. The fact that Rhoda is transgressive is still undeniably a part of the film. In fact,
Rhoda could even be considered twice as transgressive: she is both a murderer and a child murderer,
two separate taboos (Hendershot, p. 28). Further still, the fact that Rhoda does not deviate into any
other major taboos at any point during the film a stark

Ireland in 1994 (WDB, 2007) to 22% in 2007 (DIGI, 2009). Relative to the long history of wine
making and wine drinking, the marketing of wine is in its infancy (Thomas and Pickering, 2003). With
approximately 1,451,000 wine drinkers (WDB, 2004) Ireland is an attractive and profitable target
market for international wine brands.

This paper also outlines the direction of future research to address the shortcomings of research to date
and to provide marketers of wine with more rounded and meaningful insights into the wine
consumption behaviour in Ireland.
BACKGROUND TO THE IRISH WINE MARKET
The Irish wine market has experienced tremendous growth over the past 15 to 20 years, with an
almost five fold increase in the consumption of wine from 1.7 million cases in 1990 to 8.2 million
cases in 2007 (WDB, 2008). DIGI (2010) reported a 6.9% decline in wine consumption (by volume in
2009), however this decline took place in a year when the overall alcohol market contracted by about
10% due to poor national economic performance (DIGI, 2010, p. 6). Despite the recent drop in
consumption over the past year, the 450% growth in the Irish wine market since 1990, and the shifts in
demand and preference result in the Irish wine market becoming an important target market for wine
brands.
Preferences of Irish wine consumers have changed with a notable shift towards New World wines,
from a 6% market share in 1990 to a 68% share in 2007 (WDB, 2008). Previously, wine was a highly
inaccessible product in the market, with high prices, limited selections, and complex labelling (Farren,
2003). In more recent years, wine has become widely available and increasingly affordable and
accessible. Quinton and

City Of Ember Movie And Book Comparison Essay
The City of Ember film and the novel was very action packed and interesting. The novel The City of
Ember was written by Jeanne DuPrau. The City of Ember is about a boy named Doon and a girl
named Lina who are trying to escape a old run down city. They escape and write a note to the other
people in the city so they can escape. The City of Ember has many similarities and differences
between the novel and the film; however the novel was a more entertaining experience. There are
many similarities between The City of Ember novel and the film. One example of a similarity is
Granny dying at night when she calls Lina in the room and Lina doesn t know because she couldn t
see. Another similarity is Lina sees Lizzie trip and fall and finds food that Lizzie is getting from
Looper. One of the most important similarities is that they get out of Ember and they write a note to
Ember and drop it in the hole where the city can be seen. These events are important because Granny
dying makes Lina become more interested in the instructions. Lina finding out that Lizzie was getting
food from Looper is important because it helped them figure out the mayor s stash of supplies. Lina
and Doon writing a note to Ember is important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example is there wasn t a secret room in the greenhouse in the book were Lina and Doon hid
from the guards. Another difference is in the book they don t find and use Doon s dad s machine to get
through the tunnel to the opening. One really important difference is that in the movie the way out is
much more complicated and long. These differences were important because the secret room in the
greenhouse helped them hide from the guards and not get caught. Doon s dad s machine is an
important difference because it tells us that he was trying to escape with Lina s dad. The way out in
the movie was more complicated is important because it adds more action in the movie and makes the

American Sign Language And Deafness Essay
American Sign Language and Deafness in American Culture Deafness has been an obstacle thousands
of people have had to overcome since the dawn of time. Even in the not so distant past, the future was
typically very bleak for individuals who were born or became deaf. However, the future of an
individual who is Deaf has become much brighter due to the development of American Sign
Language. As the name describes, this language relies solely on visible movements and facial
expressions with no auditory expression needed.
American Sign Language, often abbreviated ASL, is as complex and complete as any vocal language
and is complete with its own sentence structure pattern. ASL is often the language of choice for deaf
individuals living in the United States. As reported by the National Census of the Deaf Population,
there are nearly half a million people who use sign language as their predominant language. The
majority of deaf people were originally born hearing. Although people can be born deaf, many become
deaf due to an accident, illness, or old age. A deaf individual can sometimes continue through life
relying solely on an auditory language with the help of hearing aids and other assistance. However,
when students learn ASL they also discover the deaf community and the rich vibrant culture that
accompanies it. Many communities with large percentages of deaf individuals have very close deaf
communities where all the individuals know each other and can meet up

Trail Of Tears Dbq
The Trail of Tears was a series of relocations of the Native American people by the United States
government in 1832. Although a very controversial idea, president Andrew Jackson pushed for the
Indian Removal Act of 1830 which allowed the relocation of the Native Americans from their
homeland to Indian Territory of present day Oklahoma (O Brien). The Trail of Tears had a negative
impact on the Native American people, while benefiting the United States with a time of economic
prosperity and growth. Around 1800, many factors came into play that brought about the Indian
Removal Act. For starters, the invention of the cotton gin in 1790 revolutionized the cotton industry
creating an effective and efficient technique for large scale farming. (O Brien) Purchasing the Native
American land would allow cheap and abundant soil for the expansion of agriculture into the South
(Sansing 59). As well as expanding the business of agriculture, the United States government wanted
to expand their territory South towards the Mississippi River, while building a territorial wall from the
foreign country territories of the west: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A large group known as the Cherokee Indians were recognized as a separate nation in 1791 by the
United States government and therefore did not follow the same laws as the United States. The
Cherokee were the last of the Native Americans to give up their land, and in 1819, they stopped
ceding land all together. The Cherokee Indians faced great danger from this; however, when farmers
began attacking the tribe and forcefully pushing them out of their land. In 1828, the government
passed a law that declared all Cherokee Nation rights null and void. In 1829, when gold was
discovered on Cherokee land, the government took immediate action, implementing strict policies
claiming Indian land, and in 1830, the Indian Removal Act was put into effect (The Trail of

Aromaticity Of Pyridine Lab Report
Aromaticity and reactions of pyridine Introduction
Pyridine is a nitrogen containing aromatic analogue of benzene. The N in pyridine is sigma bonded to
two atoms and has a lone pair, and is therefore sp2 hybridized.
This leaves one electron in an unhybridized p orbital, which contributes to the system, making a total
of 6, and therefore an aromatic molecule (5 x C H contribute 5 electrons, N contributes 1, = 6, 4N+2).
The lone pair on the N is in an sp2 orbital, which means it is directed away from the ring but in the
same plane.
The lone pair of electrons are not involved in the aromatic system, and stick out away from the
molecule.
Pyridine is aromatic, and displays aromatic characteristics such as high resonance energy

Depictions of Saint Sebastian in Visual Art and Music Essay
Depictions of Saint Sebastian in Visual Art and Music
Zeitgeist, a German term often attributed to philosopher Georg Hegel (1770 1831), literally means the
spirit of the time. Zeitgeist is founded upon the understanding that a dominant school of thought be it
political, social, philosophical, or other influences the culture of a specific period in time and that the
art and thinking of that period influence one another. Zeitgeist presumes that culture and art are
therefore faithfully united, since an artist is the product of his or her time.
This semester, in comparing works of visual art and opera and particularly between works of the same
time period, many parallels emerge. But beyond the scope of individual time periods (e.g., ... Show

There is something very human and clearly very comfortable in these figures, which artists and
society throughout the centuries deeply cherish. Whatever that might be, the medium of art itself has
been strong enough to carry through history these most famous figures of the human race and make
them present and relevant to individuals from vastly diverse times.
Saint Sebastian was an early Christian saint and martyr, which is somebody who is killed for his or her
faith. The Catholic Church acknowledges a great number of martyrs and individuals it deems
representative of a Christ inspired life and marks them by sainthood. Sebastian was said to have been
killed during Roman emperor Diocletian s great persecution of Christians.
Diocletian (Gaius Aurelius Valerius Diocletianus Augustus) was Roman emperor from 284 to 305. He
was deeply loathed and regarded as the embodiment of irrational ferocity by Henry Chadwick, a
prominent British theologian and historian who died in 2008. It was during Diocletian s bloodbath
Great Persecution of Christians that there were alleged to have been as many as 17000 martyrs within
a single 30 day period, which begat the expression Era of the Martyrs, or more commonly, the
Diocletian Era. Historians looking back and researching Diocletian have determined that perhaps
some of the stories of Christian martyrdom from the Diocletian era had been exaggerated or
embellished

What And How The Software Requirement Specification ( Srs...
The debate about what and how the software requirement specification (SRS) should be made
between customers and contractors or suppliers continues. Also most computer science engineers and
researchers agree that, software requirements specification permits a rigorous assessment of
requirements before design can begin and reduces later redesign. It should also provide a realistic
basis for estimating product costs, risks, and schedules [1], in other words, the SRS is the step that one
would use to find the path to getting one s own goal. Since there is not a standard for the SRS [14], it
is necessary to find the hidden pattern for both the people who is making the SRS and the people who
is reading the SRS. Furthermore, in software design engineers can refer the SRS as a part of larger
problem solving process which encompasses problem determination and generates the solution for the
problem. Thus, researchers consider that it is highly possible that the SRS can be classified under the
problem solving cycle [2], which engineers will recognize the problem, re define the problem in terms
of making systems, develop a strategy plan to fix the problem, organize the knowledge of the problem
domain figure out the resources that user s disposal by listing functionalities, monitor user s
implementations, and evaluate the solution for accuracy. In SRS is unnecessary to follow the exact
order but it is highly likely that completed one section with a problem another problem will pop up in

Social Media Negatives
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat are just a few social media websites and applications that
have transformed the World Wide Web. Social media is defined as websites or applications that allow
online users to produce and share content. Of the 7.6 billion global population, 2.46 billion of them
actively use social media. Many use social networking to stay in contact with others and access
information more quickly. Although the proposed reasons for social media use appear positive, they
present many negatives. One should limit his or her social media use due to its damaging impact on
today s youth and spreading of false information. Social media has countless adverse impacts, but it is
primarily harmful on today s youth. Specifically, social networking has negative affects one s
education. Since the introduction of social media, students have scored lower on test. As a result,
students are left with a poor grade point average (GPA). According to Facebook and Academic
Performance, students who used social media maintained a 3.06 average GPA. In contrast, students
who did not use social media had a cumulative GPA of 3.82. The article also presents a study that
found that students who use social networking to study score 20 percent lower than those who do not.
In addition to inferior grade point averages and lower test grades, undergraduates who use social
media inappropriately have lower chances of being admitted to colleges. Teenagers across the nation

Cupcake Suite Cupcakery, An Example Of An Existing...
Loten and Neddleman (2011) researched Cupcake Suite Cupcakery, an example of an existing
business that used crowdfunding. The bakery influenced people to donate money by rewarding them
with sweet treats. Cupcake Suite Cupcakery, a New York start up wholesale bakery founded by three
cookbook authors, last fall raised almost $9,000 in part through a crowd funding platform to help
offset the cost for a planned new location. Any contributor who provided at least $25 got a half dozen
whoopie pies (para 5). This bakery experienced a successful crowdfunding campaign to fund their
expansion. The bakery influenced contributors by offering whoopie pies as a gift for donating money.
Mollick and Nanda (2015) discovered that people in general are more likely than professionals to fund
projects that offer multiple levels of rewards, contribute updates, and display pictures and video.
People in general and professionals are influenced to fund entrepreneurial projects in different ways.
Our second finding is that despite the broad congruence in evaluation, we see a systematic pattern in
terms of the disagreement. Of the projects where there is no agreement, the crowd is much more likely
to have funded a project that the judge did not like than the reverse. Approximately 75% of the
projects where there is a disagreement are ones where the crowd funded a project but the expert would
not have funded it. We also see a clear pattern in terms of the characteristics of projects that are liked

The City Of Sacramento, The State Capital Of California
The city of Sacramento, the state capital of California, is confronted with the need to take action to
manage current water consumption trends with respect to climate change, an increase in population,
and an increase in business. Residential, commercial, industrial, and agricultural demand for water are
rising during the recent period of drought that triggered the notion of conservation efforts statewide
and the potential for water supply shortage is extremely high. This is a plan to respond to the crisis by
changing the way the city manages its water supply by enacting new structured fees for business and
residential water consumption tiers and furnishing an educational program designed to familiarize
consumers with the enforcement of a new tiered fee structure. The proposal is written in response the
state s 20x2020 plan that dictates universal water reduction with the intention of reaching a fixed 20%
of overall water consumption reduction by the end of the decade, and the CALGreen building code
that regulates the implementation of water saving technology in new and existing construction.
Climate change impact on the state of California over recent decades has generated many
environmental fluctuations with the most critical to the city of Sacramento being air temperature
increase. Over the next few decades, the local temperature may rise as much as 2° C, badly taxing the
environment to new extremes and possibly resulting in unmet demand substantial increase in water

Historical And Contemporary Of Ghetto
Ghetto, the word so frequently and severely misused due to the lack of attention to its historical and
social contexts. A word with a bevy of associations due to some of the characteristics of a ghetto. A
ghetto arises partially due to the forced spatial enclosure of the group through de jure or de facto
segregation, yet the enclosed group is ridiculed for something they have no control over. Effectively,
the lack of information contributes to mindsets and behaviors that instill a prejudicial behavior against
the affected group. As a means to deconstruct the definition of the word ghetto, four characteristics are
attached to its makeup, stigma, constraint, spatial confinement, and institutional encasement
(Wacquant). Although the ideology about ghettos are negative and irrefutably misinformed, the
seclusion actually has the potential for cultural enrichment and the ability to minimize institutional
discrimination. Due to the disentangling of race and race based discrimination from many policies in
the twentieth century, the ghetto was dissolved back to the slums in principal. This essay will attempt
to explain some of the historical and contemporary context of a ghetto, the components of a ghetto and
how these meanings have modern applications. One of the earliest usages of the term ghetto can be
seen when the Jews were forced to live in separate restricted districts to minimize any communication
between Jews, Christian, and catholic individuals. Furthermore, the ulterior

The Meaning Of When Worlds Collide
When Worlds Collide In order to describe the meaning of When Worlds Collide we must individually
address how each of the migrating European cultures, positively or negatively interacted with the
Native Americans. A collision being different then a merging already hints that the two worlds didn t
blend quite so peacefully, at least to begin with. In present day America there is very little native
American culture left standing and that can all be traced back to the eradication of Native American
culture by the Europeans. The first recorded interaction between Europeans and the Native American
(Tainos) was initiated by an Italian explorer by the name of Christopher Columbus. Under the funding
of the Spanish Monarchs, Columbus intended to travel westward in hope of finding an oceanic
passage to Asia for trade. When Columbus stumbled upon what we now know to have been the
Bahamas, he believed he had found the Indies and thus named the people he discovered Indians . He
went back to Europe bringing along some Tanios and convincing the monarchs he had found a
civilization worth plundering, and people naive enough to lead into slavery. When Columbus returned
to his discovery he found his Spanish crew dead, most likely due to the poor treatment the Tainos had
been receiving. Infuriated Columbus enslaved the people and within 28 years (1492 1520) he had
committed a genocide on the entire tribe. This was the start of a poor relationship between Europeans
and the Natives. Fast

  • 2. Treatment Of Patients With Renal Failure Every year more and more patients are diagnosed with renal failure. In hemodialysis the amount of dialysis each patient receives is less, compared to at home dialysis and nocturnal dialysis treatments. Kidneys are important organs for survival. Humans cannot filter harmful wastes, fluids, salts, potassium, and phosphorus without kidneys. When diagnosed with renal failure a patient relies on a dialysis machine to adequately remove the harmful wastes from their blood. One of the main ongoing battles between dialysis patients and their providers is adequate fluid control. There are recommendations set out for patients to follow but with weather getting hotter each year, patients are finding it harder to abide by the rules due to excess ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Between 1943 and 1945, Dr. Willem Kolff finished his invention and tested the machine on 16 patients, but had unsuccessful trials. Around 1945, he treated a 67 year old who successfully woke up from a coma, after being on hemodialysis for 11 hours. With all the new advancements today, successful outcomes should be the first thing doctors think of, rather than, focusing on the number of patients nephrology can schedule in. Lupus is another concern that nephrology faces which affect all races and has made it more of a challenge for doctors throughout the years. In most cases, patients with end stage renal disease and lupus get separated from the other patients because they are classified as higher risk. Antonio Inda Filho, et al., believe that The development of lupus related end stage renal disease (ESRD) confers the highest mortality rates among individuals with lupus (590). Unfortunately, this is true only when doctors are unable to stabilize systemic lupus. This should not be a debatable topic, nephrologist need to communicate with rheumatology and come up with an aggressive dialysis plan, which will not only assist in the removal of the harmful toxins, but will also help with stabilization. Antonio Inda Filho, et al., addressed that The complication alterations contributes to the speeding process of atherosclerosis and a higher chance of infection (591). • 3. A Brief Note On Bar Code Medication Administration Essay Bar Code Medication Administration in the Emergency Department The major concept in the healthcare setting is patient safety in health service quality. One of the most common medical errors that affect patient safety and health outcomes is medication errors. Medication errors in the emergency department (ED) can be caused by many things such as poor penmanship, confusion of drugs with the same names, confusion between dosing units and incorrect calculations of dosages (Silverman, 2014). Bar code medication administration (BCMA) technology has been implemented in several different EDs to reduce medications administration errors. The purpose of this paper is to describe intradepartmental improvements that can be made to increase patient safety and compliance by nursing staff with medication administration in the ED setting. Addressing the Issue To determine the level of competency of nurses during medication administration facilities should provide competency exams to nurses that focus on medications administration procedures. Competency and education of medication administration in nurses should be assessed during orientation and on a yearly basis. Medication administration is one of the most common duties nurses have in hospitals. According to the New Zealand Medical Journal, most of the injuries and adverse reactions that result from the wrong medications or doses given could have been prevented through safer medication practices and education (p 63). • 4. Essay On Sonnet 130 William Shakespeare s Sonnet 130 and John Milton s Methought I saw my Late Espouséd Saint are both sonnets that adapt the Petrarchan tradition of the donna angelica. The poems both use the traditional sonnet structure, use imagery to describe a specific kind of beauty and were both written in the Early modern period when the Petrarchan tradition was popular. In spite of this, both Sonnet 130 and Methought I Saw My Late Espouséd Saint avert from the Petrarchan tradition of donna angelica with a more women friendly approach. .... In both Shakespeare s Sonnet 130 and in the Petrarchan tradition of donna angelica women are described with the help of imagery, but instead of the idealisation found in the Petrarchan tradition, the comparison s in Sonnet 130 are more reasonable. This shifts away from the misrepresentation of women as unblemished characters found in the Petrarchan tradition. The speaker in ... Shakespeare mocks the Petrarchan tradition by taking a popular notion for comparison, which is music and twisting it around. Shakespeare averts the imagery away from the notion of comparing a female voice to music, to a more commonsensible comparison. He does this by saying that he loves his mistress s voice, but counterarguments that music has a far more pleasing sound (l,10). In the last two lines, (l.13 14) the speaker criticizes the donna angelica. . The lines conclude what the speaker is trying to tell his mistress throughout the poem. That unlike the false and over exaggerating comparisons found in the donna angelica, the speaker does not need that, to prove his love. The speaker emphasizes on the fact that even though his mistress isn t as ideal as the women that are compared in the donna angelica, he loves his mistress nonetheless. As any she belied with false compare (l.14) concludes that the whole poem has been a donna angelica mockery. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Material Analysis of the Internal Combustion Engine Background : The foundry is one of the oldest metal working industries known to man. The Egyptians made metal castings as early as 4000 B.C. Foundry methods have been employed throughout the ages as being the most convenient means for making implements of war, artifacts used in everyday living, agricultural implements, and other items. Traditionally, Gasoline engine blocks were made up of cast iron because cast iron was readily available and cheaper and has a good machinability. But as the technology advances and there is a need of improvising the basic design of an engine to improve its performance. Moreover, the overall weight of the engine increased due to complex design of the body. Therefore, in order to overcome this problems, the manufacturers around the world started looking for other materials which are as strong as cast iron but should be light in weight. Therefore, aluminum was being used in building engine blocks which significantly increases vehicle performance and also lower its weight. Now a days magnesium is also used as a material for designing engine block. Magnesium is much lighter than cast iron and aluminum as well. But the main problem in using magnesium was that it became unstable at higher temperature. Later that problem was solved but still wide range of Al and Mg alloys are being used in the automotive industry in the current scenario. According to a study, 90% of automobiles in North American countries are using aluminum for engine block which is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Fiscal Policy ( Private And Public ) For any economy, fiscal policy has two primary goals, an economic goal and a social goal. Regarding the economic goal, fiscal policy has to ensure suitable and sustainable economic growth rates that maintain unemployment rate at its natural level and at the same time do not generate inflationary pressures. At social level, on the other hand, fiscal policy has to ensure a degree of equity regarding the distribution of incomes in the economy, and to direct considerable part of available resources toward essential investments that provide necessary goods and services consumed mainly by the vast majority of population. 3.1 Evaluating the Economic Role of Fiscal Policy Investment spending (private and public) is the main engine to stimulate economic growth. Securing adequate savings is a prerequisite for any investment spending; however, investment projects need not just to secure adequate funding to cover their investment costs during construction periods, as they also need to secure adequate demand for their production to cover operational costs and to obtain appropriate return on investment during operational periods. While fiscal policy is playing a significant role in securing requirements of investment, domestic savings and aggregate demand for domestic production; then it is considered a governor element in determining the extent of investment prosperity and indispensible tool in correcting the imbalance between domestic investment, consumption and savings. 3.1.1 ... From 1850 to 1930 Sweden lived deep changes, but all social improvements occurred with different political situation that came in succession during the years. In 1867 the old liberals founded the Ministerial Party with the objective to defend the reforms. A little group of people created the Neoliberal Party that proposed both economic freedom and more cultural and political freedoms (such as more rights for women and an increasing democracy). In any event the dominant party was the Rural Men s Party. It defended the farmer interests, even if the Rural Men s Party had some liberal elements. • 8. Essay Biological Explanations of Criminal Behaviour Crime theories are still in a development stage; it is an evolutionary process that continues to this day. Crime is still a complex and misunderstood phenomenon with no concrete evidence when it comes to human behavior. Throughout time there have been endless amounts of crime theories, few of which revolve around biological explanations. We have Cesare Lombroso and the Positive School who thought that criminals were genetically different from the rest of the general population, that they were biologically aggressive, had criminal traits and/or born as criminals. There is also William Sheldon s theory of body types, called the somatotype theory, that argued the mesomorph body type to be the most prone to commit crime or deviant behavior. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sheldon created the idea of the three different body types and concluded mesomorphs, the more muscular and athletic body type, is more prone to commit crime and deviant behavior. Although he did not take into consideration that many prisoners lift weights while in prison and that the more muscular individuals usually win the fight (Cartwright, 2012). The twin adoption studies were used by behavioral geneticists to identify genetic and environmental influences underlying human behavioral and physical variations. Although there were many detractors of the twin adoption studies themselves and their results. There were troubles finding subjects which lead to a reduced power of result and inconsistency of the methods used for the operation. In contemporary biological explanations there are still works appearing and being developed, such as, the role of DNA, nutrition, body chemistry and ecological factors in human behavior (Gado, 2004). Most of these are either still being developed, like DNA, or were discredited along with the works of Lombroso, like nutrition. Although biological explanations may not have made a momentous improvement since the 18th century, arguments within biological explanations have expanded. There are many theories that argue if human behavior is predetermined at birth, or learned by influences. Nature versus nurture, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Not much to it, just list all that s required, and you should be good to go. Yet this assignment opened my eyes on how much detail can collude with results. When I started this assignment, I listed everything as I thought it should be. But trouble to arise was when I read the resume back to myself. One challenge I faced was to word things in an order, so they are short and concise, yet descriptive enough to understand. Whether this problem it be due to a mismanagement of resources from the beginning or stemming from the throw away culture of today, New York is in a situation where its trash is piling up and it s pawning it off on others to discard of it. New York City, like most cities across the United Sates utilizes landfills to dispose of their waste. Fresh Kills Landfill opened in 1948 and was only intended to be a temporary landfill used for 20 years, however by 1955 it became the largest landfill in the world as it was turned into New York s primary dumping ground for the second half of the 20th century. At the peak of operation Fresh Kills was receiving twenty barges carry 650 tons of waste each and every day. In March of 2001 Fresh Kills reached capacity and with the urging of the United States Environmental Protection Agency and local residents it was shut down. Despite their best efforts, the older generation remains cemented in traditional values. The older generation faces a slow, tragic, rotting death similar to Miss Emily s if they continue to adhere to tradition in a modern age. Miss Emily is a contemporary of the older generation and her refusal to pay taxes demonstrates how the adherence to tradition in the face of modern change leads to a slow death. Analysis Of Scrappy Little Nobody Memoir 1 Anna Kendrick I Remember Every Slight: You ve Been Warned and Mike and Anna Take New York , are two excerpts from the book Scrappy Little Nobody, by Anna Kendrick. Kendrick uses detailed stories to recreate a picture of her childhood, including memories of sleepovers, school bullies , and bus trips to New York. Anna Kendrick also mentions people that were part of her life, such as her parents sending her and her brother to New York for an audition, and Tori the bully who tried to steal all of her friends. Kendrick expresses her anger when Tori frames her for insulting her friends, and shares about the excitement she felt when she landed her first acting job. All of this being told from a first person point of view. Anna Kendrick uses idioms and superlative word choice along with an overall humourous tone. Figurative language that was used included, I shouldn t get too excited. I shouldn t count my chickens. , and the metaphor that caught my eye was when she compared underneath the slide on the playground to a Victorian asylum. One noteworthy phrase was It became less about alleged betrayal and more about their aversion to hyperactive little weirdos. • 14. Essay about The Existence of God We go through life drifting from one superficial disagreement to another without truly ever taking the time to ponder about the meaning of life. Such a question will not be easily resolved but by trying to answer it we stop daydreaming and extend our conception of ourselves while gaining knowledge of the external world (Solomon 10). Unfortunately anyone who attempts to answer that question quickly realizes that it isn t just one broad question but rather it s the slogan to an overwhelming amount of enquiries. Out of all possible question the one that has had the most influence on humanity is the notion of whether or not God exists. Philosophers and non philosophers alike from ancient civilizations to our modern era have contributed their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Let s start with the fact that God is powerful enough to control human thought and action to such a point that if he truly desired it we would not doubt his existence. Nevertheless such a doubt does exist so it can be established that humanity has the capacity to choose a course of action from among various other alternatives (Free Will) . Having that ability in conjunction to what many philosophers claim to be a naturally selfish human nature results in a combination were the prevailing outcome is human suffering. However not all suffering is a result of human action or inaction which brings us to the following point. Natural disasters and diseases that claim the lives of tens of thousands cannot be easily explained with a concept such as free will. Not having an obvious explanation doesn t signify that there exists no solution but rather that there are limitations to human knowledge. Take for example the vast uncertainty surrounding certain scientific and mathematical matters of fact when many, if not all philosophers, can agree that is attainable knowledge. If that restraint exists for such topics than the likelihood that we will know or understand what God is like is considerably higher. For example we cannot begin to understand the scope of divine love since the best indication that we have is human love which oscillates over time or is easily broken. • 15. The Three Goddesses In The Trojan War The Trojan War was ultimately caused by a petty conflict between three Goddesses Aphrodite, Pallas Athena, and Hera. While attending a party they discovered a golden apple with the words for the fairest carved in it. They all believed themselves to be the fairest, so to determine who would get the apple they needed a judge. Their first choice was Zeus, but he wisely declined, and instead, pointed them in the direction of Mount. Ida near Troy, where Prince Paris an excellent judge of beauty was doing shepherd s work. The three went to Paris, but instead of having him look at them to choose the prettiest, they all offered him a bribe and told him to choose the Goddess who offered the best thing (248). Hera promised to make him an Emperor of Europe and Asia. Athena said that he would lead the Trojans to victory against the Greeks. Aphrodite promised him the love of the fairest mortal on Earth. Although it was not an easy decision for him, Paris chose love and gave the golden apple to Aphrodite. This decision is what is said to be the cause of the long and famous Trojan War (249). 2. • 17. The Theme Of Money In My Mortal Enemy By Willa Cather There are many themes and symbols shown throughout My Mortal Enemy by Willa Cather, from love to marriages, and choices. The motif I want to analyze is the motif of money. Money is used throughout the whole book, it used to help persuade decisions, it characterizes their lavish lifestyle, and it is what caused Oswald to become Myra s mortal enemy. Myra, being an orphan child was raised by her great uncle, John Driscoll, who grew up a poor boy and made his fortune employing contract labor in the Mississippi swamps (10). The novel describes their lavish lifestyle in which they lived in a grand house on a ten acre park and was the finest property in Parthia. Mr. Driscoll had fast horses that made national record, and Myra would throw balls and garden parties, where she would have the band play their music (10). Myra s aunt said that Myra had everything: dresses and jewels, a fine riding horse, a Steinway piano , and how her uncle took her to Ireland and had her painted by one of the famous painters there (10 11). At a youthful age, Myra did not care about money, though she cared about love. She fell in love with a gentleman named Oswald Henshawe, but Mr. Driscoll had an old grudge of some sort with Oswald father, and Driscoll did not like the idea Myra and Oswald being together. Oswald had left Parthia and went to college at Harvard; he then moved to New York and after two years he was in the position to get married (12). Then he wrote to John Driscoll for Myra s hand in ... The series mainly focuses on six young Australian men giving an insight of each character s deepest struggle within the camp. There are many themes evident within the episodes, Seeing is believing, Curley, Private Bill and Pacifying the angels. Some of which include power and atrocities of war. These themes are also apparent throughout Edward Zwick s 2006 film Blood Diamond , which is about a country torn apart by the struggle of the government and rebel forces. Similarly this theme is articulated within the episode Pacifying the angles . Within this episode, the Japanese men lose control after their defeat in the war, therefore resulting in their anger being released through a massacre on the POW s. The dramatic difference in the ending gives the film a strong message that transgressions can only be righted through an act of god. The fact that Rhoda is transgressive is still undeniably a part of the film. Sarah Geraghty Shannon College of Hotel Management sarahgeraghty@shannoncollege.com ABSTRACT The Irish wine market, worth €1.65 billion in 2009 (DIGI, 2010), has experienced unprecedented growth in the last fifteen years, growing from an 8% share of the overall alcoholic beverage market in Ireland in 1994 (WDB, 2007) to 22% in 2007 (DIGI, 2009). Relative to the long history of wine making and wine drinking, the marketing of wine is in its infancy (Thomas and Pickering, 2003). With approximately 1,451,000 wine drinkers (WDB, 2004) Ireland is an attractive and profitable target market for international wine brands. This research aims to analyse the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This paper also outlines the direction of future research to address the shortcomings of research to date and to provide marketers of wine with more rounded and meaningful insights into the wine consumption behaviour in Ireland. BACKGROUND TO THE IRISH WINE MARKET The Irish wine market has experienced tremendous growth over the past 15 to 20 years, with an almost five fold increase in the consumption of wine from 1.7 million cases in 1990 to 8.2 million cases in 2007 (WDB, 2008). DIGI (2010) reported a 6.9% decline in wine consumption (by volume in 2009), however this decline took place in a year when the overall alcohol market contracted by about 10% due to poor national economic performance (DIGI, 2010, p. 6). Despite the recent drop in consumption over the past year, the 450% growth in the Irish wine market since 1990, and the shifts in demand and preference result in the Irish wine market becoming an important target market for wine brands. Preferences of Irish wine consumers have changed with a notable shift towards New World wines, from a 6% market share in 1990 to a 68% share in 2007 (WDB, 2008). Previously, wine was a highly inaccessible product in the market, with high prices, limited selections, and complex labelling (Farren, 2003). In more recent years, wine has become widely available and increasingly affordable and accessible. Quinton and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

American Sign Language And Deafness Essay American Sign Language and Deafness in American Culture Deafness has been an obstacle thousands of people have had to overcome since the dawn of time. Even in the not so distant past, the future was typically very bleak for individuals who were born or became deaf. However, the future of an individual who is Deaf has become much brighter due to the development of American Sign Language. As the name describes, this language relies solely on visible movements and facial expressions with no auditory expression needed. American Sign Language, often abbreviated ASL, is as complex and complete as any vocal language and is complete with its own sentence structure pattern. ASL is often the language of choice for deaf individuals living in the United States. As reported by the National Census of the Deaf Population, there are nearly half a million people who use sign language as their predominant language. The majority of deaf people were originally born hearing. Although people can be born deaf, many become deaf due to an accident, illness, or old age. A deaf individual can sometimes continue through life relying solely on an auditory language with the help of hearing aids and other assistance. However, when students learn ASL they also discover the deaf community and the rich vibrant culture that accompanies it. Depictions of Saint Sebastian in Visual Art and Music Essay Depictions of Saint Sebastian in Visual Art and Music Zeitgeist, a German term often attributed to philosopher Georg Hegel (1770 1831), literally means the spirit of the time. Zeitgeist is founded upon the understanding that a dominant school of thought be it political, social, philosophical, or other influences the culture of a specific period in time and that the art and thinking of that period influence one another. Zeitgeist presumes that culture and art are therefore faithfully united, since an artist is the product of his or her time. This semester, in comparing works of visual art and opera and particularly between works of the same time period, many parallels emerge. But beyond the scope of individual time periods (e.g., ... Saint Sebastian was an early Christian saint and martyr, which is somebody who is killed for his or her faith. The Catholic Church acknowledges a great number of martyrs and individuals it deems representative of a Christ inspired life and marks them by sainthood. Sebastian was said to have been killed during Roman emperor Diocletian s great persecution of Christians. Diocletian (Gaius Aurelius Valerius Diocletianus Augustus) was Roman emperor from 284 to 305. He was deeply loathed and regarded as the embodiment of irrational ferocity by Henry Chadwick, a prominent British theologian and historian who died in 2008. The debate about what and how the software requirement specification (SRS) should be made between customers and contractors or suppliers continues. Also most computer science engineers and researchers agree that, software requirements specification permits a rigorous assessment of requirements before design can begin and reduces later redesign. It should also provide a realistic basis for estimating product costs, risks, and schedules [1], in other words, the SRS is the step that one would use to find the path to getting one s own goal. Since there is not a standard for the SRS [14], it is necessary to find the hidden pattern for both the people who is making the SRS and the people who is reading the SRS. Furthermore, in software design engineers can refer the SRS as a part of larger problem solving process which encompasses problem determination and generates the solution for the problem. Thus, researchers consider that it is highly possible that the SRS can be classified under the problem solving cycle [2], which engineers will recognize the problem, re define the problem in terms of making systems, develop a strategy plan to fix the problem, organize the knowledge of the problem domain figure out the resources that user s disposal by listing functionalities, monitor user s implementations, and evaluate the solution for accuracy. Residential, commercial, industrial, and agricultural demand for water are rising during the recent period of drought that triggered the notion of conservation efforts statewide and the potential for water supply shortage is extremely high. This is a plan to respond to the crisis by changing the way the city manages its water supply by enacting new structured fees for business and residential water consumption tiers and furnishing an educational program designed to familiarize consumers with the enforcement of a new tiered fee structure. Effectively, the lack of information contributes to mindsets and behaviors that instill a prejudicial behavior against the affected group. As a means to deconstruct the definition of the word ghetto, four characteristics are attached to its makeup, stigma, constraint, spatial confinement, and institutional encasement (Wacquant). Although the ideology about ghettos are negative and irrefutably misinformed, the seclusion actually has the potential for cultural enrichment and the ability to minimize institutional discrimination. Due to the disentangling of race and race based discrimination from many policies in the twentieth century, the ghetto was dissolved back to the slums in principal. The Meaning Of When Worlds Collide When Worlds Collide In order to describe the meaning of When Worlds Collide we must individually address how each of the migrating European cultures, positively or negatively interacted with the Native Americans. A collision being different then a merging already hints that the two worlds didn t blend quite so peacefully, at least to begin with. In present day America there is very little native American culture left standing and that can all be traced back to the eradication of Native American culture by the Europeans. The first recorded interaction between Europeans and the Native American (Tainos) was initiated by an Italian explorer by the name of Christopher Columbus. Under the funding of the Spanish Monarchs, Columbus intended to travel westward in hope of finding an oceanic passage to Asia for trade. When Columbus stumbled upon what we now know to have been the Bahamas, he believed he had found the Indies and thus named the people he discovered Indians . He went back to Europe bringing along some Tanios and convincing the monarchs he had found a civilization worth plundering, and people naive enough to lead into slavery. When Columbus returned to his discovery he found his Spanish crew dead, most likely due to the poor treatment the Tainos had been receiving. Infuriated Columbus enslaved the people and within 28 years (1492 1520) he had committed a genocide on the entire tribe. This was the start of a poor relationship between Europeans and the Natives.
