My Goals For This Class Based On The Sensory And Diangelo...
My goals for this class based on the Sensory and DiAngelo reading were to focus less on grades and
more on understanding of the concepts, the second was to strive for intellectual humility by accepting
what I do not know and being open to the concepts I do not know, my last goal was to learn from my
reactions towards subject material the may have bothered me by journaling or researching more about
the topic. (Sensory DiAngelo, 2012) These goals I set for the class were met at times, but at other
times I feel that I did not meet these goals as well as I intended to. The first goal to focus less on
grades was mostly met. I found myself not caring about the grades, but then when I had trouble with a
concept or I found myself taking longer to understand what was being asked of me in the homework
assignment I began to feel like my mark would suffer or that I would get a really bad mark, and
although I never got a very terrible mark, I did find myself focusing on it too much at times. I found it
was easier to focus less on the grade at the beginning and at the end of the semester, so I just need to
work on managing my stress in the middle of the semester to keep myself from nitpicking my grades.
I did find that when I did have the time to write out notes for the readings or even just having notes in
the margins it helped me understand and my grades then reflected that, so for the future I will have to
remember to keep that in mind. For the second goal, which was to strive

Improving Reading Comprehension and Critical Thinking...
Determine a topic and develop specific questions At the school that I work at reading classes are only
required in sixth grade. In seventh and eighth grade reading classes can be taken as an elective class. I
strongly feel that all students in middle school still need guidance and continuous practice with
reading comprehension and critical thinking skills. Students who are beyond a sixth grade reading
class are not getting these reading skills that can be applied in all other academic classes. As a teacher
I can not change the fact that the school principal has decided that students in seventh and eighth
grade are not required to take a reading class. However I can find other ways to make sure that all
students know the reasons and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Position Yourself at the Center: Co Teaching Reading Comprehension Strategies. This article explains
and shows how media specialist can incorporate co teaching. Research indicates that reading
comprehension strategies should be explicitly taught and modeled at all grade levels (Moreillon, Judi,
2008) This part of the article will be beneficial to defend my thoughts that all students in the middle
school level need reading comprehension and critical thinking skills. According to this article, media
specialist can position themselves to help improve learning and student achievement in reading when
co teaching is involved. This article refers to several case studies where media specialists are a part of
the co teaching experience. After taking a much closer look at the case studies, I would find ways to
incorporate the lessons into my media center and school environment. The second article that I found
and would be beneficial to my research is Using Fan Fiction to Teach Critical Reading and Writing
Skills. This article concentrates on one engaging lesson that takes place in the library and in the
classroom in a two week period. The lesson was developed when a seventh grade language arts
teacher approached the media specialist for suggestions on a creative lesson to incorporate both
reading and writing. This would support the idea that collaboration can start with the classroom

Analysis Of Out, Out By Robert Frost
Lian Hearn says, Death comes suddenly and life is fragile and brief... . In Robert Frost s poem Out,
Out , the author frequently demonstrates the fragility of life and death s ability to change it in an
instant, through the use of literary allusions, imagery, personification, and tension. These devices are
used to help illustrate to the readers the fragility of life and how death can turn an ordinary day into a
catastrophic one. Throughout the poem, Frost focuses on the theme of death and its capricious nature
that can affect anyone at anytime.
Frost starts off the poem by using the title to allude to Shakespeare s Macbeth and employing a blank
verse to contribute to the idea of life s delicacy and death s ability to alter anyone s life at any
moment.
When Frost alludes to Shakespeare he is demonstrating life s ability to be cut off abruptly and gone in
a flicker. In Shakespeare s Macbeth, after Macbeth s wife has died, Macbeth says Out, out brief candle
(Shakespeare), and Frost s poem is entitled Out, Out . By not only alluding to this passage, but taking
it and cutting it off, Frost demonstrates the fragility of life and how life can be cut short easily. By
excluding the brief candle portion of the text, Frost implies the abruptness of death and how life can
be gone in the flash of second, just like a candle can be blown out in a second by a simple breeze or
huge gust of wind.
Additionally, the use of a blank verse makes the poem unpredictable since there is no regular rhyme
scheme. The entirety of the poem sticks to blank verse and refrains from a rhyming pattern. This
emphasizes that because of the blank verse, the poet is allowed a freedom that is not usually attainable
with a rhyme scheme and Frost uses this to his advantage by indicating that death is unpredictable,
just as the rhyme scheme in his poem is. Lastly, the iambic pentameter is known as a heartbeat
rhythm, and Frost uses it to represent the life of the boy. The entire poem is set to an iambic
pentameter, and when Frost says, So. But the hand was already gone, (Frost), he creates an irregular
rhythm and uses it to demonstrate the boy s death. By creating a sudden irregular rhythm, Frost
demonstrates how death is something that

Lol Lola Mae Research Paper
Four years ago my family answered the call to adopt, We had fostered for three years before we got to
adopt our first new member of our family. His name is Noah Vincent he is now two , then we
proceeded to adopt two more, we have Lola Mae she one and Landy Ann Michelle she is three. Before
we got them we fostered five foster kids. It was a new experience for all of us, It is different from
raising your own kid you gave birth to because a foster kid we could not put them on social media but
if we did we could not show their face. We also could not use their real name we had to make up a
name for them. Like when my mom would talk about Noah on facebook who we later adopted she
would call him Phabio . So that was hard because all these children are so cute you just want to put
them all over social media. We would keep them as long as they needed till the judge moved them to
another home to be adopted or for the kid to go back to his or her parents or grandma and grandpa. ...

Essay On Herpes
Herpes What are herpes?Herpes is a very common infection. It is caused by two different but closely
related viruses. The viruses are herpes simplex virus type 1 and herpes simplex virus type 2. Both are
easy to catch. They remain in the body for life and can produce symptoms that come and go.Both
forms of herpes can infect the oral area, the genital area, or both. When the infection is on or near the
mouth, it is called oral herpes. Oral herpes is caused most often by. When a herpes infection is on or
near the sex organs, it is called genital herpes. Genital herpes is caused most often by. More than half
of American adults have oral herpes. And about 1 out of 6 American adults have genital herpes.
Millions of people do not know they have herpes because they never had, or noticed, the herpes
symptoms. What are the symptoms of herpes? When a person has oral herpes, cold sores or fever
blisters can show up on the lips or around the mouth. These sores may also show up inside the mouth,
but this usually only happens the first time oral herpes symptoms appear. Symptoms may last a few
weeks and go away. They may return in weeks, months, or years. They are annoying but usually
harmless in children and adults. But cold sores can be very harmful to a newborn. ... Show more

The Effect Of Urbanization On Wildlife
In modern day urban settings, it is not uncommon to walk outside and experience Madagascar right in
the city parks. OK, maybe not quite Madagascar yet, but cities are getting there. The wildlife that used
to live out in the wild are now migrating into urban areas because there are no resources left for them
in their original homes. The problem is humans. Humans have taken over the resources, homes, and
economies that animals need to survive, so they are forced to come closer and closer to humans. The
movement caused by this is creating many problems between humans and the animals that are forced
to move. Urban wildlife is beginning to cause damage to the environment and needs to be stopped.
The effect that urbanization has on wildlife is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the causes of fear loss is caused by animals being too closely associated with the millions of
humans that surround them on a daily basis. The animals are forced to reside in human habitat because
they have nowhere else to live. The closeness can cause alterations and some urban animals trade
personal space for the convenience of the city (Soniak). Species continue to be made to live side by
side to humans and breathe the exact same air that they do. They practically share homes with humans
now because of the lack of space and the excessive populations of urban wildlife. What used to be
considered taboo is presently different because the relationship between humans and large predators is
changing (Mahoney). Large predators who lose their fears and approach humans in search for food or
water are put in danger because humans misunderstand the animals and what they are trying to tell
them. They may view a harmless approach for food as a murder spree targeted straight at them.
Another problem that follows urbanization is the harmony between humans and animals that has been
around for years is now being disturbed. The amount of wildlife deaths in urban cities is rising as
more human populations expand and grow. Some threats to urban wildlife include: habitat loss, light
and noise pollution, invasive species, chemical runoff/ pollution and habitat fragmentation. For the

Politics And Economic Development Of Angola
Politics play a crucial role in the success of any economy. The field of political economy is, thus,
crucial in demonstrating the manner politics, law and institutions alter the course a country s economic
development. Politics is an integral part of an economy since it is used to allocate scarce resources
within a state. Ideally, political economy refers to a mixture of sociology, politics, economics, history
and philosophy, which integrates adequate evidence to examine how individuals exist within societies.
Although the partnership between China and Angola dates back to 1960s and 1970s, over the recent
past, Africa, particularly Angola, has increasingly become an attractive site for Chinese investments.
This report reveals that China has been at the forefront in spearheading investments and economic

Chinese political and economic ties expanded during the late 1980 after the signing of the first trade

Gorbachev s Impact On The Soviet Union
In March of 1985, Mikhail Gorbachev becomes general secretary of the Communist Party, bringing
with him a wave of reform. His reform appeared in the form of a dual program, perestroika (to
restructure) and glasnost (openness), changing the Soviet Union s domestic governmental policies,
economic practices, and international relations for Gorbachev felt that his goals to improve the Soviet
Union s economy couldn t be done without reforming the political and social structures as well.
Gorbachev hoped that his reforms would reorganize and revive the USSR s economy, as it had been
stagnant since the Brezhnev years. Gorbachev s call for an intense technological modernization was in
the hopes of increasing industrial and agricultural productivity in order to increase efficiency and
productivity. Whether Gorbachev was successful in his aims of economic rejuvenation will be
examined within this essay, by examining perestroika and glasnost. When Gorbachev came into
power, he realized that the Soviet Union and nations under the Soviet Union s control were struggling,
their economies floundering, and the people were suffering. It was time for change. Gorbachev saw
that in order to stabilize Russia a new approach was needed in order to properly address the situation
in which the Soviet Union had found itself. Through the use of two overarching concepts, perestroika
and glasnost, Gorbachev unintentionally began to deconstruct the communist party and the USSR
itself. In 1986,

Transportation In San Francisco
Transportation innovation and conditions in San Francisco were not always created easily. San
Francisco s had an exceptional nightmare from a transit point of view. The obvious problem was San
Francisco geographic makeup. Hills caused the early settlers to deal with the swamp like conditions.
San Francisco expanded population after the Gold Rush led to better paved streets. In the 1870s
Andrew S. Hallidie developed a rope and cable car technology that could drag ore and tools up hills
by being pulled by horses. In 1873, the Clay Street Railroad Cable car line was established. Early
cable cars were pulled by horses on rails. In the 1890s, electric street cars took over horse car services
(Hartlaub, 2015). In the 19th century, railroads encouraged economic progress in California.
Transportation costs were reduced, which allowed remote lands and resources to be attainable. Various
markets for producers were widened, which enabled raising the land value and increased many people
s earnings and income. One of the first results of the advent of the railroad was phenomenal
urbanization. Oakland, a steamboat port that had been settled in the 1850s ... Show more content on

Constitutional Convention Pros And Cons
A Constitutional Convention
¬ Progress is a nice word. But change is its motivator. (Robert Kennedy) A Constitutional Convention
is necessary to the longevity and forward motion of the nation. There is no part of the Constitution that
says it cannot be changed. In fact, it was made to be changed. In no way did the founding fathers
expect the rules and regulations of the eighteenth century to apply to the country over two hundred
years later. In 227 years, there have only been twenty seven amendments to the Constitution! This is,
by no means, enough change for the Constitution to accommodate modern day life and support a

The judges are appointed by the President to serve for the duration of their lives, or until they choose
to retire. When the lifetime tenure was adopted, the average life expectancy was much less than what
it is now, allowing for the rotation of judges to happen more often. With the new life expectancy of
around eighty years old, a lifetime tenure can have judges serving anywhere from ten to forty years as
a Supreme Court Justice. To ensure that the alternation happens often enough, there should be a limit
to one fifteen year term per judge. These fifteen years of judgeship would be the lifetime limit for a
term in the Supreme Court (page 115). This term would encourage the President to avoid any bias
against the age of a judge. With the term limit, having a younger judge would not have much more of
an appeal to the President (page 115). The lifetime tenure may be seen as some judges as an anchor,
not allowing them to explore other options with their life. Some judges may have disliked the

Examples Of Miracles By Walt Whitman
For centuries, people have had differing opinions about miracles. Have any miracles ever really
happened? Or is everything a at the mercy of chance? Across all cultures, peoples, and time periods,
there have been stories of miracles. In the Isreali culture alone, there are stories of Moses calling down
plagues upon Egypt and parting the red sea to lead the people to freedom. Many stories like this are
told across cultures. And then there are the miracles of Jesus, which spearheaded the movement of
Christianity across the world. Today, it is difficult to know whether or not miracle have ever really

Society As An Outsiders
In William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily and Sherwood Anderson s Hands, both authors present main
characters who is isolated in their respective societies. In Faulkner s work, Emily is an outsider
because she chooses to remove herself from mainstream society by not interacting with other people.
Similarly, in Anderson s work, Wing Biddlebaum chooses to remove himself from society since he has
been falsely accused of being a child molester. In this way, both characters are outsiders in their
communities by choosing to remove themselves of their own free will. First, there are several types of
outsider based on different reasons. A person who decides to take himself away from the society, or
one who different from most people can be said to be an outsider. a person not belonging to a
particular group, set, party, etc. An outsider can also mean someone who is not within boundary or
enclosure. a person not belonging to a particular group, set, party, etc. (OutsiderDictionary.com. Web.
Pg.1). Though the dictionary has already described what an outsider meant, an outsider can also be
when one is trying really hard to succeed at a particular thing but is having difficulty doing that; like
in the case of a student who is having difficulty in passing a course while most of the students seem to
be having no problem with the class. Such student can be said to be an outsider. While this is the case
for students, a homeless is said to be an outsider too. There are various kinds of

Tokugawa Shogunate Economy In Japan
The Tokugawa Shogunate era was a period of significant growth and change in Japanese society.
There were two major catalysts that led to this development in Japan. Firstly, economic growth
occurred due to a transformation within the agricultural sector. Merchant driven trade and market
activity saw drastic changes in the work of the peasants. They moved from their agricultural land to
the major cities. Trade increase led to the the creation of an effective and reliable transportation
systems that allowed for Western and Eastern parts of Japan to trade. Improvements to the road
systems and shipping networks were expanded under Tokugawa s rule. The influx of the population of
Japanese in the city served as a major impetus for growth and change because the old notions of a
static, agrarian based economy were substituted for a well structured ... Show more content on

Samurai were forbidden to engaged in profitable trade or farming therefore they gradually became
economically weaker. This was in contrast to the commoner people who s trade began to lead to the
creation of a well educated and a powerful population. This contributed to the inversion of the status
hierarchy system that had been installed by the Shogun and his powerful samurai. The agricultural
production increased by about 70 percent between 1450 and 1600. Peasants increased the intensity
with which they worked the land leading to an overall growth in the land production. A rise in the
peasants overall well being correlated with Japan s significant rise in it s population. The population
increase caused for the the emergence of castle towns. Building these towns required vast amounts of
labour leading to the movement of peasant habitation. These cities eventually evolved into urban
areas. This society continued to grow, leading to an economic surplus which was a key factor in the

The Oppression Of Indigenous People In Canada
Due to disassociation, assimilation, oppression, systemic and systematic erasure and violence,
Indigenous peoples have been purposefully silenced at almost every moment of interaction with
Canada.
Many Indigenous peoples have been strategically silenced since birth. Their names were changed for
number tabulations, cultures were suppressed and languages were stolen from Indigenous children and
their future generations. These actions were sanctioned by the Catholic Church, manipulated by
political leaders and, ultimately, enforced by the government of Canada. The consequences of these
actions rippled through the institutions and cultivated into the consciousness of settler and colonial
populations. Indigenous children were subjected to an education which stripped them of their
identities and forced them into lower class, lower labour positions. Indigenous education was created
solely to meet the desired needs of subsistence of Euro Canadian peoples.
During the wars in which Canada participated, Indigenous peoples were rarely recognized for their
achievements or efforts and many deaths were purposefully not recorded. There were also hundreds ...

exotification of Indigenous cultures and traditions further discriminated Indigenous peoples by
creating a divide between what was considered socially acceptable and what was not. Indigenous

The Importance Of Immuno-Oncology
As immuno oncology takes the spotlight in cancer therapeutics and pharma companies race to develop

Liquid biopsies have been recent blood based tests that analyze circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) or

the next big thing in liquid biopsy and cancer diagnostics. These are nanoscopic membranous

Historically, cancer research has focused on finding a cure for what has been thought of as a single
disease with rogue cells dividing madly, but research and technologies have exposed how complex
cancers really are with intricate genetic differences demonstrating patients are much less alike than we
once thought. Genetic and environmental facts have provided myriad different tumor types with
unique biological pathways insights.
Although traditional chemotherapy and radiation is still common, the race is on to develop targeted
therapies to precisely combat pathways unique to the genetic footprint of a specific patient s tumor.
Individualized therapies are meant to block tumor growth rather than radiate all rapidly dividing cells,
healthy or cancerous, or apply indiscriminately destructive chemotherapeutics (Mullane).
Oddly, it is diagnostics that have proven to be among our biggest challenges (Ciardiello) in the
targeted therapies and precision medicine world. Biopsy procedures, the leading

Sandhill
Sandhill occurs in the uplands on crests and ridges of gently rolling topography. Sandhill is
characterized by an open overstory of widely spaced longleaf pine (Pinus palustris), sparse understory
of fire suppressed deciduous scrub oaks and a diverse groundcover of grasses, forbs and low growing
shrubs. Soil is deep, excessively drained, marine deposited sand of the Lakeland series. Rapid
permeability allows for expeditious aquifer recharge with little to no runoff, however, nutrients are
easily leached, hence soils are generally infertile. In order to maintain open structure, this xeric upland
habitat requires frequent (3 to 5 years), low intensity, growing season fire.

Religious Pluralism Essay
On July 12, 2007, for the first time in American history the Senate session that day was opened by a
prayer; unlike any other prayer, it was given by a Hindu priest. At first sight, it would seem as though
the ideals designed by the framers of the Constitution were alive and well; the pluralization of the
United States of America, the land of freedom of religion, and the right to worship without
persecution. However, the Christian right wing religious group Operation Save America entered the
Senate floor and began to heckle Rajan Zed, the Hindu priest, perpetuating that Hinduism is an
abomination , as Hindus do not worship The lord Jesus Christ . This leads us to ask the question: Is
America a land of religious pluralism, or is it a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the identity of Muslims and American religious pluralism (Byng, M. pg. 3). The land of pluralism has
become a land of persecution for Muslim Americans. I cannot help but wonder how the Constitutional

was different sliding surface, table top, waxed paper, paper towel, fine paper and coarse sand paper.
You will have to measure with a spring scale. You will have wood blocks to slide over the five surface.
You will have to do it 3 4 times and average it. The main thing is learned is how the sliding surfaces
creates frictional force.
In 4.1 you will have 5 different surfaces, you will have to slide the block over each surface 4 times the
the spring scale reading newtons. After when you are all you will have to average the number you got.
Like for table top trail 1(.75) trail 2(.75) trail 3( 1) trail 4(,75) add them up and divide by three

Last but not least when you four times the area and keeps the weight the same. When you double the

the weight the same. I said increase because I thought if you add more the friction will add a tiny bit
more. Every area of the block came out to be 2(N). So the friction stay the same, the sliding friction
does not depend on the area. Overall , we learned sliding surface and frictional force. Also when you
slide the blocks over different surfaces. The force can stay the same, increase and or decrease the
numbers. Took are measurement and meade two bargraphs, one was in lab 4.1 how the forces increase

Everyone around the world have their own unique ways on making teaching their loved ones a life

This quote makes everyone wonder if it is actually happening or not. In another quote, Dave Barry,
explains how cold ketchup could ruin hamburgers. For example, in the letter Barry says, Millions of
people routinely ruin perfectly good hamburgers and hot dogs by putting cold ketchup and mustard on
them (Barry). In the quote exaggeration is shown through hyperbole when he states that hamburgers
and hotdogs are completely ruined, from cold ketchup and mustard. The author knows that burgers
and hotdogs are not actually ruined from cold condiments, they re just simply not to his liking. The
intended response for the reader was a light laugh or chuckle because they soon find out that the
narrator is making fun of people who use cold ketchup and

National Crime Victimization Survey Analysis
The Uniform Crime Reports (UCR for short) and the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS for

and yearly, at minimum. The UCR makes monthly reports on Part 1 crimes (or the serious offenses)
and Part 2 crimes (anything that isn t a traffic violation or a Part 1 crime) that were reported to the
police and the number of arrests made. On the other hand, the NCVS does a national survey to

Becoming A Cheetah Girl And A Singer Like Hilary Duff
Ten years ago, I was nine years old. I was in the fourth grade at Central Elementary School. I was an

Radar In Ww2 Essay
Radar works by transmitting strong but short pulses of radio energy into the air in a certain direction
using whats called an antenna these pulses bounce off metallic objects such as ships or aircrafts they

Heinrich hertz in the late 19th century was experimenting and he showed that radio waves were
reflected by metallic objects. But It wasn t until the early 20th century that new systems were able to

The Life Of Jacqueline Jones Introduced Slavery And...
Jacqueline Jones introduced slavery and evolution from the perspectives of black and white men and
women from the 1830s to the late 1980s, and stressed the importance of studies on black women in the
working and domestic forces throughout history. The novel focused on the historic forces of labor
patterns that black women in communities, at home, in the paid labor forces, and on antebellum
plantations, have developed over time.
There was a heavy amount of contextual evidence demonstrated throughout this book, what with the
minute print and informative words given. The perspectives of the South and the North were infused
with the perspectives of people today, and how discrimination has been implemented throughout our
society both then and now. With the intent to introduce readers to individual African American
working women [Preface, xv], she elicits such feelings and highlights the real struggle of those
African Americans that were confirmed and transformed by giving examples from historical events
such as The Great Depression, the American Revolution, Labor movements and reforms in both the
North and the South.
Labor of Love states that a majority of a black woman s work was molded by her family obligations,
yet were vitally diverse from such experienced by white people, regardless of social class and wealth.
The updated version reviews such advances and others in the labors and family lives of African
American women with a more critical perspective and understanding.

Civil Engineering And American Engineering
Civil Engineering
Not a lot of people know about civil engineering, civil engineering is the building of bridges,
roadways, and buildings; but civil engineering is so much more than that. According to Columbia
University which is located in New York, civil engineering is arguably the oldest engineering
discipline, the old civil engineering discipline or sanitary engineering has evolved into the modern
environmental engineering of such significance that most academic departments have changed their
names to civil and environmental engineering. Civil engineering has been around since people started
building major public works, known a mother engineering. The first private college to tech civil
engineering was Norwich University. Civil engineers do a lot more than design and build buildings;
bridges. They can also be found in the aerospace industry designing jetliners and space stations, the
automotive industry, power stations or where ever constructed factories or industries are located. civil
engineering focuses on the study of structural systems, the core courses in a civil engineering
curriculum reflect this. Most civil engineers start their learning with basic physics and calculus
courses. Later courses can include geology, soil mechanics, and design of steel structures. A civil
engineering curriculum is usually rounded out with advanced classes that match the student s desired

The Pianist Invasion Scene
In the film The Pianist , directed by Roman Polanski, three important scenes are the invasion scene,
the Hosenfeld scene and the concert scene. These scenes are important because they show the three
main points in the movie. Roman Polanski, a Holocaust survivor himself, uses colour, symbolism,
music, lighting, and camera techniques to display the key ideas and purpose of the film, survival and
the re creation of one man s struggle respectively. The film is heavily influenced by Polanski s
personal experience, making it very vivid through the use of low key editing to rebuild the story
exactly as it was. The Pianist is about a famous Jewish pianist who survives the holocaust through
luck and his love for music.

He then spends years in hiding and nearly dies of starvation, until he meets Wilm Hosenfeld. The idea
of music being Szpilman s saviour is also portrayed in the Hosenfeld scene, where he meets and plays
piano for a German officer. The audience sees an over the shoulder shot of Szpilman playing piano for
the German officer, Wilm Hosenfeld. The shot is over Hosenfeld s shoulder, and we can see a beam of
moonlight illuminating Szpilman and his hands. Szpilman looks very dirty and extremely skinny,
nearly to the point of death. The audience learns that Polanski uses lighting consistently throughout
the film to signify the importance of pianos to Szpilman, as light is repeatedly shone on his hands
whilst playing piano, this is demonstrated in the Invasion scene. The composition in this scene is
important because Szpilman is facing the opposite way to what he was in the invasion scene when he
was on the piano; this is to show that Szpilman s life has turned around. The ragged and dirty costume
also makes the audience draw a comparison to the invasion scene where he has an expensive looking,
clean, sophisticated suit on, also emphasising that his life has gotten significantly worse. We then see
Hosenfeld back away from the piano and sit down to watch Szpilman play. This makes the audience
realise that Hosenfeld is not going to kill Szpilman as he is a good German, showing Polanski s idea
of good Germans and bad Germans and furthering the idea of the piano being his saviour, because we
do not know what Hosenfeld would have done if Szpilman was not the amazing pianist he is. This is
an example of the human race wanting to survive, and that we come across many trials and tests in our
lives and when it comes down to it, we will pull

4. Develop a written dental hygiene care plan that establishes a framework within which to identify
goals for obtaining oral health. In addition to the clinical assessment, your plan should take into

  • 2. My Goals For This Class Based On The Sensory And Diangelo... My goals for this class based on the Sensory and DiAngelo reading were to focus less on grades and more on understanding of the concepts, the second was to strive for intellectual humility by accepting what I do not know and being open to the concepts I do not know, my last goal was to learn from my reactions towards subject material the may have bothered me by journaling or researching more about the topic. (Sensory DiAngelo, 2012) These goals I set for the class were met at times, but at other times I feel that I did not meet these goals as well as I intended to. The first goal to focus less on grades was mostly met. I found myself not caring about the grades, but then when I had trouble with a concept or I found myself taking longer to understand what was being asked of me in the homework assignment I began to feel like my mark would suffer or that I would get a really bad mark, and although I never got a very terrible mark, I did find myself focusing on it too much at times. I found it was easier to focus less on the grade at the beginning and at the end of the semester, so I just need to work on managing my stress in the middle of the semester to keep myself from nitpicking my grades. I did find that when I did have the time to write out notes for the readings or even just having notes in the margins it helped me understand and my grades then reflected that, so for the future I will have to remember to keep that in mind. For the second goal, which was to strive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Improving Reading Comprehension and Critical Thinking... Determine a topic and develop specific questions At the school that I work at reading classes are only required in sixth grade. In seventh and eighth grade reading classes can be taken as an elective class. I strongly feel that all students in middle school still need guidance and continuous practice with reading comprehension and critical thinking skills. Students who are beyond a sixth grade reading class are not getting these reading skills that can be applied in all other academic classes. As a teacher I can not change the fact that the school principal has decided that students in seventh and eighth grade are not required to take a reading class. However I can find other ways to make sure that all students know the reasons and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Position Yourself at the Center: Co Teaching Reading Comprehension Strategies. This article explains and shows how media specialist can incorporate co teaching. Research indicates that reading comprehension strategies should be explicitly taught and modeled at all grade levels (Moreillon, Judi, 2008) This part of the article will be beneficial to defend my thoughts that all students in the middle school level need reading comprehension and critical thinking skills. According to this article, media specialist can position themselves to help improve learning and student achievement in reading when co teaching is involved. This article refers to several case studies where media specialists are a part of the co teaching experience. After taking a much closer look at the case studies, I would find ways to incorporate the lessons into my media center and school environment. The second article that I found and would be beneficial to my research is Using Fan Fiction to Teach Critical Reading and Writing Skills. This article concentrates on one engaging lesson that takes place in the library and in the classroom in a two week period. The lesson was developed when a seventh grade language arts teacher approached the media specialist for suggestions on a creative lesson to incorporate both reading and writing. This would support the idea that collaboration can start with the classroom ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of Out, Out By Robert Frost Lian Hearn says, Death comes suddenly and life is fragile and brief... . In Robert Frost s poem Out, Out , the author frequently demonstrates the fragility of life and death s ability to change it in an instant, through the use of literary allusions, imagery, personification, and tension. These devices are used to help illustrate to the readers the fragility of life and how death can turn an ordinary day into a catastrophic one. Throughout the poem, Frost focuses on the theme of death and its capricious nature that can affect anyone at anytime. Frost starts off the poem by using the title to allude to Shakespeare s Macbeth and employing a blank verse to contribute to the idea of life s delicacy and death s ability to alter anyone s life at any moment. When Frost alludes to Shakespeare he is demonstrating life s ability to be cut off abruptly and gone in a flicker. In Shakespeare s Macbeth, after Macbeth s wife has died, Macbeth says Out, out brief candle (Shakespeare), and Frost s poem is entitled Out, Out . By not only alluding to this passage, but taking it and cutting it off, Frost demonstrates the fragility of life and how life can be cut short easily. By excluding the brief candle portion of the text, Frost implies the abruptness of death and how life can be gone in the flash of second, just like a candle can be blown out in a second by a simple breeze or huge gust of wind. Additionally, the use of a blank verse makes the poem unpredictable since there is no regular rhyme scheme. The entirety of the poem sticks to blank verse and refrains from a rhyming pattern. This emphasizes that because of the blank verse, the poet is allowed a freedom that is not usually attainable with a rhyme scheme and Frost uses this to his advantage by indicating that death is unpredictable, just as the rhyme scheme in his poem is. Lastly, the iambic pentameter is known as a heartbeat rhythm, and Frost uses it to represent the life of the boy. The entire poem is set to an iambic pentameter, and when Frost says, So. But the hand was already gone, (Frost), he creates an irregular rhythm and uses it to demonstrate the boy s death. By creating a sudden irregular rhythm, Frost demonstrates how death is something that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Effect Of Urbanization On Wildlife In modern day urban settings, it is not uncommon to walk outside and experience Madagascar right in the city parks. OK, maybe not quite Madagascar yet, but cities are getting there. The wildlife that used to live out in the wild are now migrating into urban areas because there are no resources left for them in their original homes. The problem is humans. Humans have taken over the resources, homes, and economies that animals need to survive, so they are forced to come closer and closer to humans. The movement caused by this is creating many problems between humans and the animals that are forced to move. Urban wildlife is beginning to cause damage to the environment and needs to be stopped. The effect that urbanization has on wildlife is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the causes of fear loss is caused by animals being too closely associated with the millions of humans that surround them on a daily basis. The animals are forced to reside in human habitat because they have nowhere else to live. The closeness can cause alterations and some urban animals trade personal space for the convenience of the city (Soniak). Species continue to be made to live side by side to humans and breathe the exact same air that they do. They practically share homes with humans now because of the lack of space and the excessive populations of urban wildlife. What used to be considered taboo is presently different because the relationship between humans and large predators is changing (Mahoney). Large predators who lose their fears and approach humans in search for food or water are put in danger because humans misunderstand the animals and what they are trying to tell them. They may view a harmless approach for food as a murder spree targeted straight at them. Another problem that follows urbanization is the harmony between humans and animals that has been around for years is now being disturbed. The amount of wildlife deaths in urban cities is rising as more human populations expand and grow. Some threats to urban wildlife include: habitat loss, light and noise pollution, invasive species, chemical runoff/ pollution and habitat fragmentation. For the urban ... The field of political economy is, thus, crucial in demonstrating the manner politics, law and institutions alter the course a country s economic development. Politics is an integral part of an economy since it is used to allocate scarce resources within a state. It was time for change. Gorbachev saw that in order to stabilize Russia a new approach was needed in order to properly address the situation in which the Soviet Union had found itself. • 27. Frictional Force Lab The labs was about sliding surfaces and frictional force. The measurements were in Newtons. There was different sliding surface, table top, waxed paper, paper towel, fine paper and coarse sand paper. You will have to measure with a spring scale. You will have wood blocks to slide over the five surface. You will have to do it 3 4 times and average it. The main thing is learned is how the sliding surfaces creates frictional force. In 4.1 you will have 5 different surfaces, you will have to slide the block over each surface 4 times the the spring scale reading newtons. After when you are all you will have to average the number you got. Like for table top trail 1(.75) trail 2(.75) trail 3( 1) trail 4(,75) add them up and divide by three 0.81(N). The average for waxed paper was 0.43(N), for paper towel 0.37(N), fine sand paper 1.56(N) and coarse ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You will double the area and keep the weight safe, than triple the area and keep it the weight the same. Last but not least when you four times the area and keeps the weight the same. When you double the area and same weight what will happen to the friction. Same as triple and four times the area and keep the weight the same. I said increase because I thought if you add more the friction will add a tiny bit more. Every area of the block came out to be 2(N). So the friction stay the same, the sliding friction does not depend on the area. Overall , we learned sliding surface and frictional force. Also when you slide the blocks over different surfaces. The force can stay the same, increase and or decrease the numbers. Took are measurement and meade two bargraphs, one was in lab 4.1 how the forces increase or decrease. Parents will try to teach their child in a fun way just so they can learn what they have been told. Their child, will finally understand what is going on. Some people even involve ketchup. In the fictional letter, Dave Berry teaches his grandson life s lesson beginning with the ketchup, Dave Berry uses high comedy in the form of hyperboles and sarcasm to prove that just because many people believe something, that does not make them right. But, it also does not mean that they are wrong. Everyone must think, why I said ketchup . Out of everything, how does ketchup help with life lessons? Well, if Dave Barry, could explain to his grandson, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many people believe that the New York Yankees are not the agents of Satan. Many people believe that light beer is a form of beer. Many people voluntarily purchase recordings by Barry Manilow (Barry). The quote involves exaggeration. The author is making the quote funny by exaggerating what the author is saying to not believe in anything. The intended response for the readers/audience is for them to think about what is going on. This quote makes everyone wonder if it is actually happening or not. In another quote, Dave Barry, explains how cold ketchup could ruin hamburgers. For example, in the letter Barry says, Millions of people routinely ruin perfectly good hamburgers and hot dogs by putting cold ketchup and mustard on them (Barry). In the quote exaggeration is shown through hyperbole when he states that hamburgers and hotdogs are completely ruined, from cold ketchup and mustard. The author knows that burgers and hotdogs are not actually ruined from cold condiments, they re just simply not to his liking. The intended response for the reader was a light laugh or chuckle because they soon find out that the narrator is making fun of people who use cold ketchup and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. National Crime Victimization Survey Analysis The Uniform Crime Reports (UCR for short) and the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS for short) are two methods used by law enforcement to report the number of crimes happening monthly and yearly, at minimum. The UCR makes monthly reports on Part 1 crimes (or the serious offenses) and Part 2 crimes (anything that isn t a traffic violation or a Part 1 crime) that were reported to the police and the number of arrests made. On the other hand, the NCVS does a national survey to pinpoint crimes that were not reported to the police for whatever reason. Both reports offer valid ways to get accurate numbers of crimes and even compare past crime rates with today s crime rates. Though they both have validity, they also have errors that impact ... Because less than 40 percent of people do report a crime that happened to them and only 25 percent of rapes being reported, according to Siegel and Worrall, the UCR has been questioned on accuracy. Because the UCR only reports crimes that have been officially reported, these reporting rates are not as accurate as they would seem, especially with all the crimes that go unreported. While the NCVS is able to accurately report more criminal activity (excluding homicide and arrests), it is also flawed. This report relies heavily on personal memory and honesty of the victim. This report is also required to omit personal drug use of the victim, meaning that there could be an issue with an interview if the case was two sided due to drug involvement on the victim s ... When she did make me wear them I cried because I was so familiar with the other kids picking on me that I expected it. • 36. The Life Of Jacqueline Jones Introduced Slavery And... Jacqueline Jones introduced slavery and evolution from the perspectives of black and white men and women from the 1830s to the late 1980s, and stressed the importance of studies on black women in the working and domestic forces throughout history. The novel focused on the historic forces of labor patterns that black women in communities, at home, in the paid labor forces, and on antebellum plantations, have developed over time. There was a heavy amount of contextual evidence demonstrated throughout this book, what with the minute print and informative words given. The perspectives of the South and the North were infused with the perspectives of people today, and how discrimination has been implemented throughout our society both then and now. With the intent to introduce readers to individual African American working women [Preface, xv], she elicits such feelings and highlights the real struggle of those African Americans that were confirmed and transformed by giving examples from historical events such as The Great Depression, the American Revolution, Labor movements and reforms in both the North and the South. Labor of Love states that a majority of a black woman s work was molded by her family obligations, yet were vitally diverse from such experienced by white people, regardless of social class and wealth. The updated version reviews such advances and others in the labors and family lives of African American women with a more critical perspective and understanding. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These scenes are important because they show the three main points in the movie. Roman Polanski, a Holocaust survivor himself, uses colour, symbolism, music, lighting, and camera techniques to display the key ideas and purpose of the film, survival and the re creation of one man s struggle respectively. The film is heavily influenced by Polanski s personal experience, making it very vivid through the use of low key editing to rebuild the story exactly as it was. He then spends years in hiding and nearly dies of starvation, until he meets Wilm Hosenfeld. The idea of music being Szpilman s saviour is also portrayed in the Hosenfeld scene, where he meets and plays piano for a German officer. The audience sees an over the shoulder shot of Szpilman playing piano for the German officer, Wilm Hosenfeld. The shot is over Hosenfeld s shoulder, and we can see a beam of moonlight illuminating Szpilman and his hands. Szpilman looks very dirty and extremely skinny, nearly to the point of death. The audience learns that Polanski uses lighting consistently throughout the film to signify the importance of pianos to Szpilman, as light is repeatedly shone on his hands whilst playing piano, this is demonstrated in the Invasion scene. The composition in this scene is important because Szpilman is facing the opposite way to what he was in the invasion scene when he was on the piano; this is to show that Szpilman s life has turned around. The ragged and dirty costume also makes the audience draw a comparison to the invasion scene where he has an expensive looking, clean, sophisticated suit on, also emphasising that his life has gotten significantly worse. We then see Hosenfeld back away from the piano and sit down to watch Szpilman play. This makes the audience realise that Hosenfeld is not going to kill Szpilman as he is a good German, showing Polanski s idea of good Germans and bad Germans and furthering the idea of the piano being his saviour, because we do not know what Hosenfeld would have done if Szpilman was not the amazing pianist he is. This is an example of the human race wanting to survive, and that we come across many trials and tests in our lives and when it comes down to it, we will pull ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
