Brophy College Ordeal The Battle Of Pamplona
Rohit Khurana Brophy College Preparatory Summer Reading Assignment 7/3/15 ST. IGNATIUS OF
LOYOLA Definitions 1. Battle of Pamplona The Battle of Pamplona was a struggle between French
backed Navarrese troops and Spanish troops, occurring during the Spanish conquest of Navarre. In
1512, most Navarrese towns consented to be under French rule. Before an agreement could be signed
however, King Ferdinand of Spain seized the capital, Pamplona, fortifying its walls, and claimed all of
Navarre for Spain. Later on, in 1521, Francis I, King of France reconquered Pamplona, with their
victory short lived as Spain would reconquer the province. It was during this battle in which St.

Ignatius of Loyola Ignatius of Loyola, born to Doña Marína Sánchez de Licona and Beltrán de Onáz
in 1491, created a legacy much bigger than himself by founding the Society of Jesus. Serving to the
treasurer s household (Velázquez) at first, Ignatius injuries during the Battle of Pamplona fueled a
period of reflection in which Ignatius placed his life at the feet of God. Traveling to Manresa after his
recovery, Ignatius created the Spiritual Exercises to help others grow closer to God setting the stage
for a new religious order. Pursuing this path, Ignatius received a well rounded education from the
University of Paris, attracting new followers, such as Peter Favre and Francis Xavier, and making
plans to travel to the Holy Land. However, these plans were curtailed in the shadow of conflict at the
Holy Land. Instead, the companions decided it was time to place themselves at the service of the Holy
Father by means of the Society of Jesus with Ignatius delivering his first mass on Christmas Eve, 1538
in the Chapel of the Manger in Rome s Basilica of St. Mary Major, 18 months after his ordination into
priesthood. Yet good things come to an end and on July 31, 1556 Ignatius died due to poor health.

Analyzing The Product By Conducting A Due Diligence Plan...
Because the evaluation process is a critical factor in determining the systems, the process should
include various components. Some of the ways that I would evaluate the individual RFPs would be to
analyze the product by conducting a due diligence plan (Plan, 2011). The components involved in this
process consist of looking at demonstrations, conducting site visits, and doing check references
(Oachs Watters, 2016) (Plan, 2011). By looking at demonstrations, (whether they d be vendor fairs or
individual presentations) it gives the potential users the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the
system and thus makes the users feel part of the whole process (Plan, 2011). Additionally,
demonstrations allow for easy side to side system comparison which also eases the evaluation process.
By doing so, it can help the vendor have a clearer understanding of what the facility s specific
requirements are (Amatayakul, 2013). Furthermore, conducting site visits, allows the project team to
get real feedback about how the staff feels with new system and allows the potential buyer to see the
system in action (Oachs Watters, 2016). Furthermore, I would use reference checks to check the
credibility of the vendor (StratisHealth, Analysis, RFP, 2009). By doing so, it would allow me to have
a better visual as to seeing if the items listed on the RFP are things that can actually be accomplished
accurately and efficiently (Amatayakul, 2013). That said, in order to evaluate the system, other

Neurological Disability
Everyone possesses an innate superpower; and some people just have a unique kryptonite. Regardless
of what one s kryptonite is, everyone has something to offer the world. Rather than focus on someone
s disabilities we should be celebrate and foster the growth of their abilities, as that is how we can close
the gap. At six years old I was diagnosed with multiple, severe learning disabilities. The main concern
of my parents, teachers, and doctors was Dysgraphia, a neurological disability that affects my ability
to physically write. I attended weekly Occupational Therapy sessions, where for three years Cathy, my
OT tried to help me form letters in an effort to teach me to write, it didn t work. After three years,
Cathy told my parents that I had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result they are often pushed beyond their limits. The reality is, people with disabilities often must
work significantly harder to achieve the same outcomes, as their neuro typical peers are able to
achieve with minimal effort[2]. In this case, the hearing the sentiment, if you just tried harder. If you
focused more. if you really put your mind to it. you could do it over and over is extremely
discouraging, especially when you know you are trying your absolute hardest. Not only is it
demoralizing, but also implying that disabled people can and should be able to do more, undermines
their struggles and invalidates their identity as a disabled person. If lack of motivation were really the
cause then it would be an easy fix, but it s not lack of trying that causes developmental disabilities, it s

Why Do People Have A Near Death Experience
Have you ever had a near death experience? Did you notice any changes in yourself or things around
you? Many people have noticed monumental changes after their near death experiences. No matter the
degree of danger, they still realized common things. A near death experience can transform one s
personal life and beliefs. Most people who have had near death experiences have five things in
common: changes in priority, time slows down, not realizing they made a choice with their actions, and
things turned unexpectedly dangerous quickly.
Many people who have experienced near death experiences have had a change in priorities such as
Tom Benecke, Patrick Daniels, and Scott Lear. Before Tom Benecke had his near death experience, his
main priority was finishing his work instead of spending time with his wife. After he almost fell from
a ledge that was outside his window, he realized that he was putting things before his wife and decided
to stop working and go to the movies with his wife. Patrick Daniels changed ... Show more content on

Within the decade, people can agree that technology has gradually impacted lives every day. Whether
people believe it is progressive or destructive, it is established that for some, the impact of technology
is quite concerning. An ongoing topic is whether teenagers are in fact addicted to their smartphone
devices and social media. In Sherry Turkle s piece Growing up Tethered she provides student
testimonials that only proves that teenagers from the ages sixteen to eighteen feel the need to be on
their smartphones at all times. Although, technology does have positive outcomes and uses, Turkles
points that teenagers are too tethered to their devices and are not as safe while using their device is

Although people of all age ranges use their smartphone device daily, people are more concerned of
those who are younger. Adults born before the 2000s were raised in a world and society that was not
technology based, so seeing the first generation to experience it can be unsettling. It is quite evident
that almost every teen has a smartphone, and will use it at any given opportunity. The problem is
teenagers actually use it anytime, even if the time is not appropriate. Many teens from the ages sixteen
through eighteen are receiving their driver s license, but have a hard time not using smartphones while
driving. This causes great dangers to everyone else on the roads. In some cases, people have been in
accidents caused by people texting while driving. Unfortunately, many individuals have lost their lives
because of someone texting while driving. In Turkle s piece Growing up Tethered she includes student
testimonials such as Roman s. Roman, eighteen, admits that he texts while driving and he is not going
to stop. I know I should, but it s not going to happen. If I get a Facebook message or something posted
on my wall . . . I have to see it. I have to (Turkle 236). Though teenagers are very aware of
circumstances when texting while driving, that still does not stop them from doing so. The constant
need of being connected with friends and others on social media is what keeps teenagers from not

Essay on Multilateral Intervention within ASEAN
The admission of Burma into ASEAN and the reluctance of ASEAN to resolve Burma s ongoing
political turmoil (the most recent, 2010 elections) have sparked off much debate and controversy
among the member states as well as the international community. This is because ASEAN upheavals
the non interference principle in managing its inter relations, indicating lack of credibility, importance
and unity. Therefore, this policy memo will suggest some short and long term strategies that will re
orientate political and economic change in Burma in accordance to ASEAN s interest.

United States
The United States are negotiating on free trade agreements (TIFA) with ASEAN, though the
negotiations are relatively inactive due to some hindrances such as lack of transparency, large amount
of bureaucratic paperwork to do business, especially in Burma (Aung Zwa) inequality (preferential
policies) barring foreigners from the lucrative public procurement sector practiced by some member
states of ASEAN (Lee Hock Guan). Besides that on the foreign policy and security front, the United
States realizes the importance of ASEAN in facilitating to materialize its interest, to contain the rising
of China and thus to remain as the hegemonic power in South East Asia. ASEAN is also playing as a
key partner in combating against terrorism. This is because some Islamic extremist groups which are
linked to Al Qaeda had been using ASEAN countries to meet up for their attacks.
China Firstly, there has been an influx of assistance, trade and investment from China to Burma. This
can be seen as in just ten years, trade between Burma and China grew from US$15million to US$800
million. For instance, from 1991 to 1995, about $US740 million of approximately US$1 billion in
arms purchased by Burma came from China. Therefore, China maintains a good relation with Burma
because Burma had been importing its military hardware. Secondly,

The Education System Of The Republic
Education is a transfer of knowledge from one generation to another. Some societies have oral
traditions while others transfer the knowledge by written works. In Plato s Republic, for Socrates the
education system is structured in two major parts: the education of the mind and character and the
physical training. For Socrates, truth, justice, and goodness are the main principles for a utopic
society. Indeed, for him the truth is universal and therefore in order to have a perfect utopic society it
community should be dedicated and based on truth. In fact, in this imaginary society the educational
system is an oral transfer of knowledge, which is based on trues stories and fiction. The Republic
shows that in this imaginary society the education is strictly control and does not portray any of the
three principles of a utopic society. The educational system of The republic demonstrates that nothing
is utopic in this imaginary society. The education of this society is controlled and people could only
have one set of mind. Everyone is different and therefore should have the right of choosing when, how
and what they want to study. The varieties of educational system normally allow this, but in this
society, it is not the case. In this society, the education is supervised and controlled: Then it seems that
our first business is to supervise the production of stories, and choose only those we think suitable,
and reject the rest (Plato 377 b). The education goes from one

Benefits Of A Proactive Strategic Procurement Operation
INTRODUCTION
Every organisation requires goods and services from external suppliers or providers as no company is
an Island. These goods are to be acquired at the right time, right source, right quality of materials,
right quantity and also these goods are to be of the right price in order to give the organisation an
advantage over its competitors( competitive advantage) allowing it to generate greater sales and retain
more customers than its competition. We will be looking at HEWLETT PACKARD. Hewlett Packard
emphasis has gone beyond just reacting to the needs of users as and when they arise, to a forward

Going to low cost countries to source has plenty of advantages, but it has to be done right. ( The
Boston consulting Group 2008)
Hewlett Packard is the case study of this work, procurement being a broad topic, we will concentrate
on three main areas for the purpose of these work. Brief understanding of them;
GLOBAL SOURCING:
Global sourcing can be simply defined as coordinating and integrating of procurement requirement
across worldwide business units. Mostly practised by large organisations because they are the ones
that have the need, leverages and facilities around the globe to enable them apply the process to gain
competitiveness from global sourcing. They are usually in a contract with other large corporations
who have the ability to supply the products to their sites located globally. Many organisations are
meeting the need for lower cost by moving to foreign countries where there are less regulations that
interferes with the manufacturing process, where they can find cheaper labour and thereby lower the
cost of basic plant, personnel cost and also operational cost. Sourcing and outsourcing which have
developed over time are the two basic methods of foreign manufacturing and it helps in making the
best choice for global supply chains. Some basic things need to be considered before outsourcing,
sometimes companies outsource when it does not make any sense. Eg if a

Innocence Of The Lamb By William Blake
Innocence of the Lamb The Lamb is one of William Blake s famous poems from his book Songs of
Innocence published in 1789. The Lamb is also known as Little Lamb but better known by the former
name. This poem is a didactic poem reflecting spirituality from a Christian point of view. The Lamb is
a question and an answer type of poem and has a sense of innocence as the speaker is a child
questioning a lamb s existence. In The Lamb William Blake uses metaphor, symbolism and imagery to
express Jesus Christ and His relationship with the world. The Begin, William Blake was born in
London on November 28, 1757 to a middle class family. He was taken out of school at a young age by
his mother and started taking drawing classes and reading poetry. His parents were involved with the
Anglican Church at a portion of Blake s life and this religious background stayed with him. He found
his inspiration from the Bible as is shown throughout his work. At the age of fifteen Blake became an
apprentice to James Basire and for seven years he worked in London engraving images from churches
and architecture, this formed his specific artistic style later in life. In 1782 Blake married Catherine
Boucher and he taught her how to read and write. In 1783 Blake published his first work Poetical
Sketches. Five years later, in 1788, Blake made an important artistic discovery with the invention of
relief etching, this process became the primary format for the majority of Blake s work. This

Symbolism In Stephen King s Movie It
Due to how interested I am with this captivating film, I once again decided to research a review on the
movie IT directed by Andy Muschiettie. Specifically looking for an article discussing symbolism I
stumbled upon Stephen King s It is the rare monster movie with too much monster written by Tahsa
Robinson. Collectively, the passage discusses many elements of symbols in the film, but ultimately
leads back to how the title monster makes appearance too often (Robinson). However, I disagree with
this statement because the creature is presented to remind the audience that It is always there;
terrorizing its prey before consumption as one would season a piece of meat before a meal. This
directing style of presenting the monster in the beginning and often throughout is different from that
of other movie that keep the monster hidden to build suspense and fear. Having It on screen in
multiple scenes allows terror to build for the victims or, in the case of the film, for the victims to
develop bravery in the face of fear. I do agree with the author s analysis on the aspects of the film and
the symbols presented to the audience. In particular, I whole heartedly agree with what she states
about one of the adolescent characters: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The perception of wine being upmarket and sophisticated is helping in bringing about this change.
One sign of this happening is the emergence of wine clubs in a number of cities. The biggest
consumption of wine (up to 80%) is confined to the major cities, of which the largest are Mumbai
(39%), Delhi (23%), Bangalore (9%) and the foreign tourist
3
dominated market of Goa (9%). With the easing of quantitative restrictions on wines after April 1,
2001, there has been an increasing interest in the Indian market by international players. However the
import duties and state taxes (which will be discussed later in more detail) remain high. They continue
to be a major impediment to the foreign entrants into the Indian market. Local Industry: Maharashtra,
Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh (a recent entrant) are the three major wine producing regions in
India. Maharashtra, on the western coast of India, is the major wine producing region, accounting for
94% of the total wine produced in the country. According to the Department of Wine Production of the
Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), the wine producing region is spread over
30,000 hectares, covering 64 wineries. During the year 2007/08 Maharashtra registered a massive

Analysis Of Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee Essay
Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee is a non fiction book written by Dee Brown on the removal and
extinction of the native peoples that called America their home. The title was created by utilizing a
line from Stephen Vincent Benét s poem American Names . Furthermore, the book demonstrates the
deteriorating relations between the natives and whites over time through the descriptions of atrocities
imposed upon each Native American tribe by the white settlers. The number of these atrocities greatly
outnumbers the few attempts at peace made by the aforementioned settlers. Brown opens his book by
presenting attitudes of the previous European settlers towards the people of the New World. It is
apparent from these early encounters and their outcomes that white settlers primarily desired to
exterminate Native Americans and claim their land. The proceeding chapters describe the experiences
of the Western Indians by tribe, event, and leader. Beginning with the Navajos of the Southwest, led
by Manuelito, Brown describes how Manuelito, like the many later chiefs, attempted to accept the
presence of the white settler s on their native land. When terms between the Navajos and Americans
were violated however, the Navajos retaliated, resulting in a war in 1861 that caused acts of cruelty on
both sides. Next, Brown looked to the Santee Sioux led by chief Little Crow. While attempting to
adopt the white man s lifestyle, Little crow became aggravated and soon acted on this aggravation,

The Effects Of Global Warming On The Earth
Presently, climate change is one of the largest threats to the Earth, and all recent research points to an
anthropogenic cause. As humans burn fossil fuels, carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases enter
the atmosphere where they remain at unprecedented levels. As a result, greenhouse gases absorb
infrared radiation emitted by the Earth and trap the radiation as heat, which should have left the
atmosphere and entered outer space. This heat causes a gradual increase in the average temperature of
the oceans and atmosphere, which scientists believe is permanently changing the climate of the Earth.
Global warming is already greatly altering the surface of the planet, with many observable effects that
include sea level rise, droughts, species loss, glacier melt, and ocean acidification (U.S. National
Aeronautics and Space Administration 2016b). Recent studies also indicate that global warming is
also responsible for altering the frequency and intensity of tropical cyclones. Observation has pointed
towards warming ocean temperatures as responsible for fueling stronger hurricanes and the creation of
fewer storms annually. This phenomenon is of concern due to the historically immense damage caused
by high intensity tropical cyclones. A tropical cyclone is a low pressure system that typically forms in
the tropics, and is frequently accompanied by thunderstorms, heavy rain, and wind speeds as high as
190 miles per hour (Ahrens 2015). This type of storm system begins with a

Eating meat has been a thing that majority of us engage in without question. Which is why among
other reasons Foer feels compelled to share his findings about where our meat come from. Throughout

Factory farms having locked doors only reinforces what some of us already suspect. That they are
engaging in activities appalling to the public. Their secrecy is seemingly sustaining their business.
Consumers ignorance of the meat production business only encourages inhumane animal husbandry.
Foer says, the power brokers of factory farming know that their business model depends on consumers
not being able to see (or hear about) what they do. (pg. 87) This is why we need to educate ourselves
on this matter extensively and start actively demanding where our meat is coming from. Advocating
for animal welfare is one way we can begin the process of changing or ultimately ending factory
farming.
It s problematic that we don t question the food we eat whether it be from McDonalds or a fancy

driving force behind the system is not worth getting food poising or something detrimental. In the

Realism In International Relations
Realism is not a new concept. Classical Realism has its roots firmly placed in ancient Greece at the
time of Thucydides where in the History of the Poloponneasean War he wrote The strong do what they
have the power to do, the weak accept what they have to accept (Thucydides 1972: 402).
Thucydides is thought to explain the role of power within politics at this early stage (Donelly, 2000)
through to the time of Machiavelli in the 16th Century. Stanley Hoffman is quoted as saying that the
theory is ...probably the most distinguished school of thought in the history of international relations
(Hoffman, 1988 p.6). Whilst Realism, as a concept, has helped to define International Relations by
fostering the notion that power is the only political gain to be wanted, Robert Gilpin sees it as a ...
philosophical disposition and set of assumptions about the world rather than as in any strict sense a
scientific theory (Gilpin, 1984 p. 290). Realists are unified in believing that Power and survival is
fundamentally the most desired thing between the universal actors: The States. The theory is built on a
basis of pessimism and that that politics is a tussle for both power and survival and labels politics on
an international scale as a series of recurrent conflicts among states with very little prospect for
change (Jackson and Sorensen, 2007). Whilst there are similarities which bind the different veins of
realism together, this essay will look at those different veins within the

somewhat larger than the nominal value, suggesting that the length measurement uncertainty was

when producing structural steel in transverse direction, whereby the actual thickness was on average
9.8% larger than the nominal value, as compared with an average of 5.6% larger in longitudinal

taken into account, it would be reasonable to suggest that the varying geometry does not have a
significant effect on the modulus of structural steel. Additional, it is seen that the measured

Supreme Court Case Analysis
Well first of all, the supreme court is the highest judicial court in a country or state. The highest
federal court in the US, consisting of nine justices and taking judicial precedence over all other courts
in the nation (wikipedia.com). The supreme courts job is simply the final judge. In all cases involving
laws of congress, or the constitution, the supreme court gets to make the final judgement. However, it
is not all powerful. The power of the supreme court is limited by two other branches of government.
(scholastic.com). Now how do people get a job as a justice of the supreme court? Well the president
gets to appoint each justice. How do the justices decide to hear a case or not? Not just any case can be
heard by the supreme court so what makes the cases the supreme court does hear special? The cases
that the supreme court hears are ones that deal with issues with the federal law. or if they fall within
the limits of the federal government the supreme court might decide to hear them. If a case only has to
do with county or state laws than this case will most likely stay within the states jurisdiction, or the
states court system. The supreme court is the very last step to most cases.

Introduction
This report discuss how Porsche has obtained a market position in the global automotive industry with
its existing unique resources and capabilities and core competencies (Johnson et al, 2008).
The first section of the report analyses the threats within the global automotive industry and those
entry barriers that a new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An automotive business is quite specialized and involves significant upfront capital required for
purchase factory facilities and machine equipment, materials for building the engines, vehicle parts, as
well as costs for hiring and marketing. Because of these high exit barriers, car manufacturer can t just
close down their business as it will not be easy to sell off an automobile facility and equipment to
buyers in a different industry.
Economies of scale and experience
These are important barriers of entry especially in current global automotive industry. In order to
achieve that, meaning an automobile company must have the ability to mass produce and sell a large
volume of cars to sell in order to breakeven. Established automotive leaders probably have an
advantage over a new entrant in achieving cost efficiency as they may have overcome this barrier
either through strategic partnerships or mergers as sharing of manufacturing facilities and technology
(know how) will help to minimize overhead costs of production.

Messianic Judaism Research Paper
The history of Messianic Judaism dates 2,000 years ago, all the way back to the first century. Back
then there were numerous denominations of Judaism: Pharisees, Sadducees, Fanatics, Essenes, and so
forth. The original supporters of Jesus were all primarily Jewish. As the word of Jesus spread to the
Gentiles, a lot of them begun their journey as His followers. Although, as more Gentiles begun to
believe in the Gospel, they soon outnumbered the numer Jewish followers in Christ. As time went on,
the Gentile Church lost ties between its Jewish background and became exposed to hostile anti
Semitic philosophies. Meanwhile, Messianic Jewish groups held their Jewish identities and continued
to participate in Jewish activities. However, by the seventh

Legend Of Gallipoli
Hypothesis: In contrast to common societal belief, the Gallipoli Campaign had both a positive and
negative impact on Australian Society. By building the Anzac spirit, it distinguished Australia as its
own nation, built on a foundation of qualities embedded in this Anzac Legend. The nation advanced
socially and gained respect on a Global stage, but, Australia did significantly decline economically
and the morals of praising a failed war are question by some.
Intro: As the battle died, the legend was born, and so was the nation. On the 28th of June, 1914,
Archduke of Austro Hungary, Franz Ferdinand was Assassinated by Serbian nationalist, Gavrilo
Princip in Sarajevo. The camel s back was finally broken after years of alliances and tensions, and ...

However, the costs of war were very damaging on the economy. In simple terms, the Anzac legend is
the commemoration of the Anzac spirit, born and developed throughout the eight months on the
battlefield of Gallipoli. The horrible situations, made the Anzacs strong and resilient, they had to rely
upon mateship and each other to get through. Their larrikinism also helped to keep many in as good a
mood as possible. Australia was very proud of their soldiers and aspired to be like them, this meant
that soon the whole country adopted the qualities of the Anzac spirit and the building of a nation
began. This nation was not the newly federated country that still was much divided into the different
qualities, Gallipoli fixed that two. Because man from all different backgrounds and states fought
together they were properly united and brought that attitude back home. The Anzac legend has had a
positive impact, defining what it means to be Australian, however how did Gallipoli an WW1 impact
on Australia socially and economically. The failed Gallipoli campaign mean that bonds with Britain
deteriorated, due to poor British leaderships, and the superiority that that showed to Australians. By
leaving the influence of Britain the nation was shaped more as an individual country which allowed
them to impress on an international stage. Other than the Anzac legend, positive societal effects
include; new industries with more jobs were developed, new political groups and trade unions were
created, a strong military tradition was established, chemical and electrical industries were formed and
women gained a higher role in society this was the first war they could help out by encouraging men
to enlist, being nurses or taking over as factory workers. Negatives include; the deaths left a large dent
in an already small population, violence increased, there was

Reality Television Essay
Reality Television
When Philo T. Farnsworth invented the electric television, he probably did not think that it would be
used to show people eating bugs, finding husbands based on votes of viewers, or living on deserted
islands. But that is exactly what you can see any given night on television now. This newest form of
television programming fad is the reality television genre. Reality television is now on every station,
every night, everywhere. The web page Fact Monster credits the beginning of reality TV as beginning
around 2000 when a little reality game show called Who wants to be a Millionaire hit television
screens. Millionaire saw the rebirth of game shows but also started the most popular television genre
in years. Some say ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not actual reality, because actual reality is boring, and in actual reality people aren t eating weird stuff
or living on desert islands. But these shows are a form of reality suitable to make fairly interesting TV.
When thinking about reality TV and its rise to popularity there are two shows that come to mind. The
first is the creative Survivor. Survivor is an hour long show that came on in 2000 on Thursday nights
at 9:00 PM on CBS and quickly became one of the networks highest rated shows. Hosted by Jeff
Provst, the smug, good looking yet rugged host, the gimmick of Survivor is that 20 people are
deserted in the wild in two groups that they call tribes and are forced to build shelter, provide food for
themselves and then every week participate in a challenge to win immunity. Those who do not win
immunity are then open to be voted off by the tribe. The final person to not get voted off receives 1
million dollars and fifteen minutes of fame.
Another show that helped cement the reality TV genre is NBC s Fear Factor, a usually half hour show
which shows on any night where a push in the adult 18 49 demographic is needed. Fear Factor is the
show that comes to mind when thinking of reality TV and eating. Joe Rogan hosts the show; a muscle

The Trade Routes And The Spread Of Islam
The Malian Trade Routes and the Impact on West Africa Through the Spread of Islam Along These
Routes The trade routes of Mali are not as well known as others like the Silk Road, but they were
influential in the trade of North Africa and forever influenced history. These trade routes conveyed
gold, salt, and, to a lesser extent, copper to empires in the Middle East and Mediterranean. However,
the most influential effect of these trade routes was the spread of Islam throughout West and Central
Africa. The empire of Mali rose in the early 13th century and soon expanded. The empire controlled
all of the main trade routes throughout West Africa, which are collectively referred to as the Malian
trade routes. These trade routes were vital to most of the world. Berber traders from northern Africa
came along these routes to get gold and salt, vital for the flavoring and more importantly the
preservation of food, to trade to the Middle Eastern and Mediterranean empires. In addition, traders
from northwestern Africa brought salt along these routes to major trading cities in Mali, to trade to the
Berber traders and merchants from Central Africa. Mali had so much gold and the trade of gold was so
important to the rest of the world that maps of the ancient world depicted Mali with a gold nugget or
with a man wearing a gold crown sitting on a gold throne and holding a gold spear in one hand and a
gold coin the size of his head in his other hand. The salt trade was also very

A Brief Note On Titanium Alloy Implants And Joint Replacement

Titanium Alloy Implants and Joint Replacements
The advancement in materials science has paralleled with human ability to make improvements in the
fields of engineering, manufacturing and medical fields. Specifically in the medical field, as major
joints or sometimes organs begin to fail, foreign materials must be introduced into the body to perform
the functions of the failing component. Not all materials can be used in the human body however,
therefore materials science is directly correlated to the success of implants. This report discusses some
of the challenges faced when selecting the most ideal material for an operation, and investigates many
of the material properties of common joint replacement/implant materials. Understanding further the
certain requirements of proper implant materials used in practice will permit greater advancement in
the field of medical implants and joint replacement once other materials are created to better fit those
requirements. There are three main areas which a certain material must prove to be superior in a given
application in order to be considered for use in implants and joint replacements. First and most
importantly, the material in question must be compatible with the human body. Introduction of foreign
materials into the human body causes a reaction between the foreign material and human tissue, we
consider the material compatible so long as this reaction is not producing negative or harmful

The London Plan And Environmentally Sustainable
How is the London Plan both demographically and environmentally sustainable?
The London Plan, is a complex, yet vital part of the UK s capital cities roots as it contributes to the
efficient day to day running of the city, whilst also aiming to aid sustainable development. The most
recent update to the London Plan was released in 2015 which covered multiple topical issues ranging
from strategic housing, transport, dealing with the pressures of climate change, economic
development, quality of life and managing demographics. The plan is often referred to as a Spatial
Development Strategy (SDS) and is produced by the mayor and his councillors for all 33 London
boroughs. According to National Planning Policy Framework (NPF), a source ... Show more content

In modern day society, especially amongst geographers and planners, the concept of sustainability and
sustainable development is vital when making decisions that effects both people and the environment,
as it involves using today s resources in a way that ensures they are still available for future
generations to come. Sustainable development is an important concept for the future of the world, and
for developments in geography. The idea of sustainable development is a bridge between geography
and compatible disciplines. Beyond that, it is a conduit through which geographers can contribute to a
positive future for life on earth . With that in mind, it is essential that if the London Plan wishes to be
successful, it must consider how they are going to integrate the aspect of sustainability into their
development, especially with the increasing pressures of changing demographics, (e.g.
overpopulation, green belt development and housing crisis s) and climate change heightening the risk
of flooding, increased temperatures, energy issues and drought across not

Emma took no response, if she made a valid acceptance to the offer, there would be a valid
acceptance. Consideration is necessary in simple contract, executory and executed consideration is
accepted by law. Executory is consist of a promise to do something, and executed consideration takes
the form of performing an act. Past consideration, consideration per dates the promise, is not accepted
by law. In this case, Emma want to buy a television from Tony. The consideration is a promise to pay a
certain amount of money in return of the television or a promise of offer the television in return of a
certain amount of money paid. The consideration took the form of the exchange of promise. It is an
executory consideration, which is valid in law. Parties must have intention to create legal relation to
create a legal contract. When the agreement is made between business partners, it is presumed that the
parties are intent to create legal relations. When an agreement is made between family members or

What Is The Estimation Of The Forest Femining Methods
With increase in the amount, quality and accessibility of the remote sensing data on one hand, and
advancement, ease of use and capability of the open source machine learning and statistical tools, on
the other hand, machine learning approaches have become very popular and powerful methods for
estimation of the forest biomass in the recent years. cite{Iftikhar}
By far, linear regression is the most well understood algorithm in statistics and machine learning
compared to any other machine learning tools. Table 2 summarizes the studies that has been done on
estimation of the biomass using LiDAR techniques.

There are several ways to select the best features. cite{Thomas}. Also, it has been shown that
selection of the number of the features for classification, neighbors and the predictors are very
deterministic in the quality of the classification cite{NLi}.
Random Forest (RF) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) are two machine learning approaches that
has been successfully implemented in several studies and resulted in the significantly better results
compared to KNN or other regression models. For example, in the study by Fassnacht et
al.cite{Fassnacht 2014} using LiDAR and Hyperspectral data, it has been shown that RF model
produce a better forest aboveground biomass prediction compared to other tested methods.
RF is the ensemble classification technique based on the many random decision trees classifiers.
Decision tree is the classification approach that relate the target point to the predictor based on the
simple decision criteria. Decision tree can easily become unstable and result in the very complex
decision boundaries, therefore Random forests are used to improve the accuracy of the prediction and
also controls the over fitting cite{Thomas}. It has been shown that a large number of features can be
handled by RF cite{Liai}. RF also, has been reported to have higher accuracy in predicting biomass

Essay on Organizational Management
Managing Changes – Renewing Organizational Structure and Culture
In their 2005 book, Understanding and Managing: Organizational Behavior, Jennifer George and
Gareth Jones define organizational structure as the formal system of task and reporting relationships
that controls, coordinates, and motivates employees so that they cooperate and work together to
achieve an organization s goals. A logical consequence to an organization s structure is the resulting
culture, which George and Jones further define as the set of shared values, beliefs, and norms that
influences the way employees think, feel, and behave toward each other and toward people outside the
organization. Finding the right structure for one s organization is vital to its ... Show more content on

FMC Aberdeen and FMC Green River, both in the northern mid west of the United States, share a
common ‘parent company , corporate guidelines and image, and similar operating values and
systems. Their management teams, however, have several obvious differences. Organizational
strategy, structure, and culture are among the more striking distinctions between the two sister plants.
Green River is a multi facility entity where management is very structured and hierarchical, and
produces multiple products for multiple customers. Green River s transactional management model
lacks an ability to share information, share decision making responsibilities, and does not encourage
teamwork. Conversely, Aberdeen s participatory management model, single product, and single
customer design sets itself apart not only from Green River, but from any other FMC facility. Bob
Lancaster, Aberdeen s pioneering transformational leader held the belief that an organization cannot
exist in an environment of fear, and that universal trust and respect are the foundation of a successful
company, and the key to organizational commitment. Aberdeen and Green River face unique
challenges, which necessitate distinct approaches tailored specifically to each organization.

  • 2. Brophy College Ordeal The Battle Of Pamplona Rohit Khurana Brophy College Preparatory Summer Reading Assignment 7/3/15 ST. IGNATIUS OF LOYOLA Definitions 1. Battle of Pamplona The Battle of Pamplona was a struggle between French backed Navarrese troops and Spanish troops, occurring during the Spanish conquest of Navarre. In 1512, most Navarrese towns consented to be under French rule. Before an agreement could be signed however, King Ferdinand of Spain seized the capital, Pamplona, fortifying its walls, and claimed all of Navarre for Spain. Later on, in 1521, Francis I, King of France reconquered Pamplona, with their victory short lived as Spain would reconquer the province. Ignatius of Loyola Ignatius of Loyola, born to Doña Marína Sánchez de Licona and Beltrán de Onáz in 1491, created a legacy much bigger than himself by founding the Society of Jesus. Serving to the treasurer s household (Velázquez) at first, Ignatius injuries during the Battle of Pamplona fueled a period of reflection in which Ignatius placed his life at the feet of God. Traveling to Manresa after his recovery, Ignatius created the Spiritual Exercises to help others grow closer to God setting the stage for a new religious order. Pursuing this path, Ignatius received a well rounded education from the University of Paris, attracting new followers, such as Peter Favre and Francis Xavier, and making plans to travel to the Holy Land. However, these plans were curtailed in the shadow of conflict at the Holy Land. Instead, the companions decided it was time to place themselves at the service of the Holy Father by means of the Society of Jesus with Ignatius delivering his first mass on Christmas Eve, 1538 in the Chapel of the Manger in Rome s Basilica of St. Mary Major, 18 months after his ordination into priesthood. • 3. Analyzing The Product By Conducting A Due Diligence Plan... Because the evaluation process is a critical factor in determining the systems, the process should include various components. Some of the ways that I would evaluate the individual RFPs would be to analyze the product by conducting a due diligence plan (Plan, 2011). The components involved in this process consist of looking at demonstrations, conducting site visits, and doing check references (Oachs Watters, 2016) (Plan, 2011). By looking at demonstrations, (whether they d be vendor fairs or individual presentations) it gives the potential users the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the system and thus makes the users feel part of the whole process (Plan, 2011). Additionally, demonstrations allow for easy side to side system comparison which also eases the evaluation process. By doing so, it can help the vendor have a clearer understanding of what the facility s specific requirements are (Amatayakul, 2013). Furthermore, conducting site visits, allows the project team to get real feedback about how the staff feels with new system and allows the potential buyer to see the system in action (Oachs Watters, 2016). Furthermore, I would use reference checks to check the credibility of the vendor (StratisHealth, Analysis, RFP, 2009). By doing so, it would allow me to have a better visual as to seeing if the items listed on the RFP are things that can actually be accomplished accurately and efficiently (Amatayakul, 2013). That said, in order to evaluate the system, other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Neurological Disability Everyone possesses an innate superpower; and some people just have a unique kryptonite. Regardless of what one s kryptonite is, everyone has something to offer the world. Rather than focus on someone s disabilities we should be celebrate and foster the growth of their abilities, as that is how we can close the gap. At six years old I was diagnosed with multiple, severe learning disabilities. The main concern of my parents, teachers, and doctors was Dysgraphia, a neurological disability that affects my ability to physically write. In this case, the hearing the sentiment, if you just tried harder. If you focused more. if you really put your mind to it. you could do it over and over is extremely discouraging, especially when you know you are trying your absolute hardest. Not only is it demoralizing, but also implying that disabled people can and should be able to do more, undermines their struggles and invalidates their identity as a disabled person. Adults born before the 2000s were raised in a world and society that was not technology based, so seeing the first generation to experience it can be unsettling. It is quite evident that almost every teen has a smartphone, and will use it at any given opportunity. The problem is teenagers actually use it anytime, even if the time is not appropriate. Many teens from the ages sixteen through eighteen are receiving their driver s license, but have a hard time not using smartphones while driving. • 10. The Education System Of The Republic Education is a transfer of knowledge from one generation to another. Some societies have oral traditions while others transfer the knowledge by written works. In Plato s Republic, for Socrates the education system is structured in two major parts: the education of the mind and character and the physical training. For Socrates, truth, justice, and goodness are the main principles for a utopic society. Indeed, for him the truth is universal and therefore in order to have a perfect utopic society it community should be dedicated and based on truth. In fact, in this imaginary society the educational system is an oral transfer of knowledge, which is based on trues stories and fiction. The Republic shows that in this imaginary society the education is strictly control and does not portray any of the three principles of a utopic society. The educational system of The republic demonstrates that nothing is utopic in this imaginary society. The education of this society is controlled and people could only have one set of mind. Everyone is different and therefore should have the right of choosing when, how and what they want to study. The varieties of educational system normally allow this, but in this society, it is not the case. In this society, the education is supervised and controlled: Then it seems that our first business is to supervise the production of stories, and choose only those we think suitable, and reject the rest (Plato 377 b). • 12. Innocence Of The Lamb By William Blake Innocence of the Lamb The Lamb is one of William Blake s famous poems from his book Songs of Innocence published in 1789. The Lamb is also known as Little Lamb but better known by the former name. This poem is a didactic poem reflecting spirituality from a Christian point of view. The Lamb is a question and an answer type of poem and has a sense of innocence as the speaker is a child questioning a lamb s existence. In The Lamb William Blake uses metaphor, symbolism and imagery to express Jesus Christ and His relationship with the world. The Begin, William Blake was born in London on November 28, 1757 to a middle class family. He was taken out of school at a young age by his mother and started taking drawing classes and reading poetry. His parents were involved with the Anglican Church at a portion of Blake s life and this religious background stayed with him. He found his inspiration from the Bible as is shown throughout his work. At the age of fifteen Blake became an apprentice to James Basire and for seven years he worked in London engraving images from churches and architecture, this formed his specific artistic style later in life. In 1782 Blake married Catherine Boucher and he taught her how to read and write. In 1783 Blake published his first work Poetical Sketches. Five years later, in 1788, Blake made an important artistic discovery with the invention of relief etching, this process became the primary format for the majority of Blake s work. This ... Specifically looking for an article discussing symbolism I stumbled upon Stephen King s It is the rare monster movie with too much monster written by Tahsa Robinson. Collectively, the passage discusses many elements of symbols in the film, but ultimately leads back to how the title monster makes appearance too often (Robinson). However, I disagree with this statement because the creature is presented to remind the audience that It is always there; terrorizing its prey before consumption as one would season a piece of meat before a meal. This directing style of presenting the monster in the beginning and often throughout is different from that of other movie that keep the monster hidden to build suspense and fear. Having It on screen in multiple scenes allows terror to build for the victims or, in the case of the film, for the victims to develop bravery in the face of fear. I do agree with the author s analysis on the aspects of the film and the symbols presented to the audience. In particular, I whole heartedly agree with what she states about one of the adolescent characters: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the easing of quantitative restrictions on wines after April 1, 2001, there has been an increasing interest in the Indian market by international players. Analysis Of Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee Essay Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee is a non fiction book written by Dee Brown on the removal and extinction of the native peoples that called America their home. The title was created by utilizing a line from Stephen Vincent Benét s poem American Names . Furthermore, the book demonstrates the deteriorating relations between the natives and whites over time through the descriptions of atrocities imposed upon each Native American tribe by the white settlers. The number of these atrocities greatly outnumbers the few attempts at peace made by the aforementioned settlers. Brown opens his book by presenting attitudes of the previous European settlers towards the people of the New World. It is apparent from these early encounters and their outcomes that white settlers primarily desired to exterminate Native Americans and claim their land. The proceeding chapters describe the experiences of the Western Indians by tribe, event, and leader. Beginning with the Navajos of the Southwest, led by Manuelito, Brown describes how Manuelito, like the many later chiefs, attempted to accept the presence of the white settler s on their native land. When terms between the Navajos and Americans were violated however, the Navajos retaliated, resulting in a war in 1861 that caused acts of cruelty on both sides. Next, Brown looked to the Santee Sioux led by chief Little Crow. While attempting to adopt the white man s lifestyle, Little crow became aggravated and soon acted on this aggravation, which ... • 17. The Effects Of Global Warming On The Earth Presently, climate change is one of the largest threats to the Earth, and all recent research points to an anthropogenic cause. As humans burn fossil fuels, carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases enter the atmosphere where they remain at unprecedented levels. As a result, greenhouse gases absorb infrared radiation emitted by the Earth and trap the radiation as heat, which should have left the atmosphere and entered outer space. This heat causes a gradual increase in the average temperature of the oceans and atmosphere, which scientists believe is permanently changing the climate of the Earth. Global warming is already greatly altering the surface of the planet, with many observable effects that include sea level rise, droughts, species loss, glacier melt, and ocean acidification (U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration 2016b). Recent studies also indicate that global warming is also responsible for altering the frequency and intensity of tropical cyclones. Observation has pointed towards warming ocean temperatures as responsible for fueling stronger hurricanes and the creation of fewer storms annually. This phenomenon is of concern due to the historically immense damage caused by high intensity tropical cyclones. A tropical cyclone is a low pressure system that typically forms in the tropics, and is frequently accompanied by thunderstorms, heavy rain, and wind speeds as high as 190 miles per hour (Ahrens 2015). This type of storm system begins with a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Eating Animals, by Jonathan Safran Foer Essay In the book Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer, the author talks about, not only vegetarianism, but reveals to us what actually occurs in the factory farming system. The issue circulating in this book is whether to eat meat or not to eat meat. Foer, however, never tries to convert his reader to become vegetarians but rather to inform them with information so they can respond with better judgment. Eating meat has been a thing that majority of us engage in without question. Which is why among other reasons Foer feels compelled to share his findings about where our meat come from. Throughout the book, he gives vivid accounts of the dreadful conditions factory farmed animals endure on a daily basis. For this reason Foer urges us to take a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Factory farms having locked doors only reinforces what some of us already suspect. That they are engaging in activities appalling to the public. Their secrecy is seemingly sustaining their business. Consumers ignorance of the meat production business only encourages inhumane animal husbandry. Foer says, the power brokers of factory farming know that their business model depends on consumers not being able to see (or hear about) what they do. (pg. 87) This is why we need to educate ourselves on this matter extensively and start actively demanding where our meat is coming from. Advocating for animal welfare is one way we can begin the process of changing or ultimately ending factory farming. It s problematic that we don t question the food we eat whether it be from McDonalds or a fancy upscale restaurant. We need to be more aware of what is going on around us especially when the food we eat is causing an array of health issues for us. The unsanitary conditions found within the factory farm industry contributes to the pathogens found in the meat we eat. As the saying goes you get what you pay for. Factory farming is based upon producing large quantities of meat at a very low cost. This driving force behind the system is not worth getting food poising or something detrimental. • 19. Realism In International Relations Realism is not a new concept. Classical Realism has its roots firmly placed in ancient Greece at the time of Thucydides where in the History of the Poloponneasean War he wrote The strong do what they have the power to do, the weak accept what they have to accept (Thucydides 1972: 402). Thucydides is thought to explain the role of power within politics at this early stage (Donelly, 2000) through to the time of Machiavelli in the 16th Century. Stanley Hoffman is quoted as saying that the theory is ...probably the most distinguished school of thought in the history of international relations (Hoffman, 1988 p.6). Whilst Realism, as a concept, has helped to define International Relations by fostering the notion that power is the only political gain to be wanted, Robert Gilpin sees it as a ... philosophical disposition and set of assumptions about the world rather than as in any strict sense a scientific theory (Gilpin, 1984 p. 290). Realists are unified in believing that Power and survival is fundamentally the most desired thing between the universal actors: The States. The theory is built on a basis of pessimism and that that politics is a tussle for both power and survival and labels politics on an international scale as a series of recurrent conflicts among states with very little prospect for change (Jackson and Sorensen, 2007). Residual Stress in Structural Steel Members Essay During testing it was noted that in every case the actual measured thickness of the specimens was somewhat larger than the nominal value, suggesting that the length measurement uncertainty was 0.08, mm for 3D laser scanner, for detailed description Ref. [16]. This was true to the greatest extent when producing structural steel in transverse direction, whereby the actual thickness was on average 9.8% larger than the nominal value, as compared with an average of 5.6% larger in longitudinal direction, for IPE360 profile. However, as the calculated values for tensile properties, presented in the following sections, take into account the actual thickness of the specimen, these differences between actual and nominal dimensions will not affect ... The mean of transverse specimen in this study is higher than longitudinal value, although the difference is small (2%). For the coefficient of variance found 0.024, which corresponds to a standard deviation of 4.81 GPa, which is summarized in Tab. 3. The specimen ID1 and ID3, which have different gauge lengths, widths and thickness and strain rate, are almost the same indicating that the gauge length may not have an effect on modulus, which is clearly shown in Fig. 6 and Tab. 3. Comparing the specimens ID1 and ID2, which have the same gauge length of 80 mm with strain rate 0.00007s 1 but different specimen orientation, it is seen that the modulus in longitudinal direction have 1.0% higher value than the transverse direction. Comparing the specimens ID1 and ID4, which have different gauge lengths, width, thickness, the variation of average measured modulus is 2.5 GPa for all strain rate, indicating the effect of varying parallel length, gauge width, grip area and orientation of specimen. If the variations that occurred during machining and testing are taken into account, it would be reasonable to suggest that the varying geometry does not have a significant effect on the modulus of structural steel. The cases that the supreme court hears are ones that deal with issues with the federal law. or if they fall within the limits of the federal government the supreme court might decide to hear them. The Trade Routes And The Spread Of Islam The Malian Trade Routes and the Impact on West Africa Through the Spread of Islam Along These Routes The trade routes of Mali are not as well known as others like the Silk Road, but they were influential in the trade of North Africa and forever influenced history. These trade routes conveyed gold, salt, and, to a lesser extent, copper to empires in the Middle East and Mediterranean. However, the most influential effect of these trade routes was the spread of Islam throughout West and Central Africa. The empire of Mali rose in the early 13th century and soon expanded. The empire controlled all of the main trade routes throughout West Africa, which are collectively referred to as the Malian trade routes. These trade routes were vital to most of the world. Berber traders from northern Africa came along these routes to get gold and salt, vital for the flavoring and more importantly the preservation of food, to trade to the Middle Eastern and Mediterranean empires. In addition, traders from northwestern Africa brought salt along these routes to major trading cities in Mali, to trade to the Berber traders and merchants from Central Africa. Mali had so much gold and the trade of gold was so important to the rest of the world that maps of the ancient world depicted Mali with a gold nugget or with a man wearing a gold crown sitting on a gold throne and holding a gold spear in one hand and a gold coin the size of his head in his other hand. • 28. A Brief Note On Titanium Alloy Implants And Joint Replacement Erik Rasmussen 11 13 2016 ME 315 Titanium Alloy Implants and Joint Replacements The advancement in materials science has paralleled with human ability to make improvements in the fields of engineering, manufacturing and medical fields. Specifically in the medical field, as major joints or sometimes organs begin to fail, foreign materials must be introduced into the body to perform the functions of the failing component. Not all materials can be used in the human body however, therefore materials science is directly correlated to the success of implants. This report discusses some of the challenges faced when selecting the most ideal material for an operation, and investigates many of the material properties of common joint replacement/implant materials. Understanding further the certain requirements of proper implant materials used in practice will permit greater advancement in the field of medical implants and joint replacement once other materials are created to better fit those requirements. There are three main areas which a certain material must prove to be superior in a given application in order to be considered for use in implants and joint replacements. First and most importantly, the material in question must be compatible with the human body. Introduction of foreign materials into the human body causes a reaction between the foreign material and human tissue, we consider the material compatible so long as this reaction is not producing negative or harmful ...
