The Validity Of A Scientific Theory
The world is a complicated place that works in mysterious ways, but people, with their inquisitive
minds, refuse to let even the most confounding puzzles go unsolved. Science provides explanations
for aspect of the world with no tangible evidence. But more often than not, science gets it wrong. One
way to test the validity of a scientific theory is the use of the Hypothetico Deductive Method. The
results of such a method provide evidence of confirmation or disconfirmation, though these results
cannot always be trusted. The world is complicated, thus it requires an equally complicated instrument
of discovery. With such complexity, philosophical problems in reasoning are bound to arise, but there
is always a solution to such issues. The Hypothetico Deductive Method, called H D from here on out,
is a way of reasoning about theoretical (dis)conformation where a person deduces an observational
prediction from a hypothesis. Said hypothesis is then tested to determine whether or not the theory is
confirmed. The basic H D model states HO, if the hypothesis is true, then the prediction will be
observed. This basic model consists of basic confirming and basic disconfirming instances of
experiments, which state, respectively, O/H, the prediction is true and observed, therefore the
hypothesis is confirmed, and ~O/~H, the prediction is not true and not observed, therefore the
hypothesis is disconfirmed. For the swan theory, an experiment would be set up in which the

Analysis of Elizabeth Bishops the Moose
Elizabeth Bishop s The Moose is a narrative poem of 168 lines. Its twenty eight six line stanzas are
not rigidly structured. Lines vary in length from four to eight syllables, but those of five or six
syllables predominate. The pattern of stresses is lax enough almost to blur the distinction between
verse and prose; the rhythm is that of a low keyed speaking voice hovering over the descriptive
details. The eyewitness account is meticulous and restrained.
The poem concerns a bus traveling to Boston through the landscape and towns of New Brunswick.
While driving through the woods, the bus stops because a moose has wandered onto the road. The
appearance of the animal interrupts the peaceful hum of elderly passengers voices. ... Show more

Thus the first part, devoted to the landscape, is richly descriptive, replete with qualifying epithets that,
toward the end (in line 75 and in line 81), come in by threes, like beads on a string. In the second part,
dealing with the passengers plight, learned, latinate words such as divagation, auditory, hallucination,
eternity, and acceptance signal the presence of the narrator commentator. In the third part—the one
reserved for the moose—epithets return. In the climactic twenty fourth stanza, the most distinctly
poetic devices—explicit comparisons—are bestowed on the protagonist: high as a church,/ homely as a
house. Moreover, the four additional epithets lavished on the moose contribute to the grandeur of its
appearance: towering, antlerless, and grand, otherworldly.
By careful calibration and timing of her tropes, Bishop succeeds superbly in achieving her ends.
Contrast is attained by her control over all compartments of language, and her austere, restrained tone
and strategy of deferral and understatement are dramatically effective.
Themes and Meanings The Moose is ultimately about the human need to be purged and, if possible,
cured of selfhood. Self absorption or narcissism is not only a passing malaise afflicting teenagers.
Older people regard themselves in the mirror of their

Analyzing the Knowledge of Plate Tectonics Essay
Analyzing the Knowledge of Plate Tectonics
In order to manage anything successfully you need to have some sort of basic knowledge about what
you are managing, otherwise you may be doing more harm than good because something seems the
right thing to do without any basis in fact or visual evidence. If you know why something happens it
will be easier to predict future plate tectonic movement by looking for the signs of an approaching
earthquake or volcanic eruption and so minimizing the danger by taking the actions necessary because
so far it is impossible to stop them and if it were the earth would not be able to release its underground
pressure and shake itself apart so prevention is not an option. ... Show more content on

In order to prepare for earthquakes, people living in earthquake zones need to be educated about them
and know what to do in an emergency such as standing under doorways or having emergency tools,
which can be hard in the LEDW as the information may not be readily available in the rural areas and
buildings in the urban areas may not be built to withstand them as doing so would be too expensive
but they can still have supplies of food and other such items to survive if they are involved in an
earthquake.
Volcanoes are harder to prepare for as they can cause more damage, which cannot be avoided by
standing under a doorframe. Houses are not easily be reinforced to withstand a volcanic eruption, they
can be strengthened to endure the vibrations caused by the eruption but not usually against lava flows
as not many things can stand the high temperatures and even if they could the house would be buried
under rapidly cooling molten rock so the best thing to do if you see a lave flow heading to your home
is to pack as much as you can and evacuate the area.
To prepare for a volcanic eruption can involve making zones of risk around the volcano where are
most likely to suffer the worst of the damage and evacuate as many people in these zones as possible
which is what happened before the major eruption of Mt St Helens in 1980.

First Horse Legend
When I was about 13 I got my first horse. To most people this probably does not see, like a very big
deal. But to me it was the most exciting thing that had ever happened. I got him for my birthday from
my parents. His name was Moonlight Dancer and let me tell you he lived up to the name. He was the
most majestic creature I had ever seen. He was appaloosa quarter horse, his dad was a purebred
Appaloosa jumping horse. To top it off he was a champion. He ranked in the top 10 in the country.
Can you believe that! My horses dad was a legend. I called him dancer, he had previously been a
dressage horse but was retired due to his size. He was a pretty big horse to be doing delicate steps like
that. He was the sweetest animal ever. We instantly

The Economic Problems Of The Reconstruction Era
Equality and freedom between blacks and whites were very different, causing problems to breakout.
The Reconstruction Era went on from 1863 to 1877. It was taken place in the South, it was the greatest
problem that still remained after the Civil War and had to be solved. In general, the changes made
after the Civil War did not help African Americans move closer to achieving the American Dream due
to the economic, political and social problems that they faced due to the reconstruction. The problems
that southerners produced around the Reconstruction Acts stopped blacks from having any say
economically in the Reconstruction Era, distancing them away from the economic freedom they had
always wanted and achieving the American Dream. One of the biggest economic problems they faced
was sharecropping. A sharecropper was a tenant farmer especially in the southern US who is provided
with credit for land, tools, living quarters, and food, who works on the land, and who receives an agreed
share of the value of the crop minus charges(Sharecropping Worksheet). The landowners soil was not
guaranteed to be good as well, and if it was bad then it made it harder for the farmers to grow crops.
Dealing with all of this made it very hard for farmers to actually make enough money to pay the
landowner back and have enough money to do tenant farming. Which made it nearly impossible to get
out of sharecropping and achieve the American Dream. The Black Codes also impacted African
Americans

Essay about Socrates Argument with Crito
Socrates Argument with Crito
Socrates has presented a period of questions and answers through dialogue with Crito to examine if he
going into exile will damage his reputation. Socrates questions and answers with Crito establishes that
a person must decide whether the society he or she lives has a just reasoning behind it s own standards
of right and wrong and that a person must have pride in the life that he or she leads. By confirming
these two concepts through questions, Socrates attempted to prove to his companion Crito, that the
choice that he has made is just: I am the kind of man who listens only to the argument that on
reflection seems best to me. I cannot, now that this fate has come upon me, discard the arguments I
used; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By living in Athen for 70 years Socrates has agreed to have faith in the cities virtues and in the force
of decisions that are imposed upon him and as a citizen he respects them. Any person that disobeys
these laws deliberately attempts to destroy these laws and the society that has created them: However,
that whoever of you remains when he sees how we conduct our trials and manage the city in other
ways, has in fact come to an agreement with us to obey our instructions. (51e). If the decisions of the
city are not respected as honourable, the structure of that civilization will fall to pieces. If a person is
found violating the standards of his or her society and does not accept the consequences of his or her
actions there can t be a system of law that construct order. You must either persuade it or obey its
orders, and endure in silence whatever it instructs you to endure, whether blows or bonds, and if it
leads you into war or be wounded or killed you must obey. (51b)
Socrates adjusts these theories to the option to escape from his captors and abandon their conclusion
on his future. Crito begins to understand Socrates view in his suggestion. the only valid consideration
is whether we should be acting rightly in giving with the escape, or whether in truth we shall do wrong
in doing all this. (49c) Socrates concludes that if he followed Crito s advice he would be committing
several dishonest actions against his own society that were

Business Organization Structure Of A Business
Business Organization Structure
Starting a business is a major step and can in some cases be very risky. Furthermore, there are a
number of important factors that should be considered when starting a business. One of the most
fundamental factors involved in starting a business is determining what business entity to operate the
business under. Choosing a business entity that is not aligned with your particular business model can
in many cases lead to several problems that can be potentially very costly. The four most common
business entities are a sole proprietorship, partnership, LLC, and a corporation. Knowing which
business entity is best for your new business venture can determine the future success of your
company.

As long as you are the only owner, this status automatically comes from your business activities
(Starting managing (n.d.). However, just like any other business you would still need to obtain
licenses and permits necessary for operating your particular business. Starting a sole proprietorship
can be extremely time consuming as you the owner are responsible for all operations and functions of
the business including creating a business plan, obtaining licenses and permits, hiring, establishing
plans for development and growth and much more. Depending on the type of business your looking to
start you may need to obtain patents and trademarks to protect your business. Sole proprietors need to
comply with licensing requirements in the states in which they re doing business, as well as local
regulations and zoning ordinances. The paperwork and formalities, however, are substantially less
than those of corporations, allowing sole proprietors to open a business quickly and with relative ease
from a bureaucratic standpoint (AllBusiness.com, 2007). Personal liability for owners The owner of a
sole proprietorship business has unlimited personal liability to the company and is responsible for all
debts and obligations incurred on the business s behalf. Because there is no legal separation between
you and your business, you can be held personally liable for the

Comparing Sappho And Sufism
Though Sappho and Sufism originated from different cultures and different time periods their poetry
had many similarities. Sappho who was from the island of Lesbos in Greece and lived during the
seventh and sixth centuries BCE and Sufi poet Jalal ad Din ar Rumi who lived during the thirteenth
century CE and was from Balkh, Afghanistan, both wrote about the effects of love. Though they both
discussed love in general, Sappho often addressed the topic of mortal love in her poetry, and Rumi
addressed the topic of the love for one s God.
The poet Sappho from the town of Mytilene on the island of Lesbos, was from about 610 BCE to

How Water Is An Important For Our Lives
Thousands have lived without love, not one without water, W.H. Auden says. It is true that water plays
an important in our lives; nobody can survive without water. Importantly, water is a scarce resource
which means that society has insufficient productive resources to meet all citizens needs. Once the
scarce resource becomes more and more terrified, people will turn to limit the usage. Since California
has been dried for four years continuously and reached near crisis proportion, on April 1, 2015,
Governor Jerry Brown signed an executive order that will restrict urban water usage by 25 percent to
deal with the drought (Nagourney). The bill seems to make sense by limiting the water when it

in Johnson). Technically, farmers use 80 percent of water while cities use 20 percent (Johnson).
However, as Governor Jerry Brown claimed California to reduce water using by 25 percent, he did not
indicate agriculture (Johnson). Yet, Robert Glennon stated that For California to solve its water crisis
must also come from farmers. Definitely, with a huge water consuming, restricting agriculture will
conserve water more significant water than households water saving. Glennon points out that By my
calculations, even a four percent reduction in water consumption could increase by 50 percent the
water available for municipal and industrial uses. Thus, to solve drought, California should not restrict
personal water use, but regulate agriculture instead.
Secondly, wisely using appropriate management, water in agriculture is one of the best ways to control
water instead of restricting personal water use. Agriculture consumes about 80 percent of all water
usages in California, and the primary water consuming in agriculture is irrigation. This irrigation
system helps lands that don t annually receive enough rainfall to be utilized for growing plants.

Description Of A Night Of Sleep Essay
Snezhana Longwell
RESP 240
September 12, 2016 During a night of sleep, we pass through 5 cycles, with 4 stages being non rapid
eye movement sleep (NREM) and the last being rapid eye movement sleep (REM). The sleep cycle
follows a pattern where it starts over every 90 minutes.1 When in stage one, you are in a very light
state of sleep, and you can be very easily awakened. Eye movement just starts to slow down and
muscles begin to relax.2 Then entering stage two, brain waves become slower and eye movement
ceases, sometimes displaying spindles on the epochs.2 During this stage your heart rate and breathing
remain the same, but your body starts to cool down as your temperature begins to decrease.1 Upon
entering stages 3 and 4, you enter a deep sleep and it is hard to be awakened. In stage 3, your brain
waves are very slow, or known as delta waves on the epoch.2 During these stages, you begin to breath
slower, your blood pressure falls, and your muscles are fully relaxed. The last and final stage is known
as REM sleep, and it occurs about every 90 minutes. You start to breathe faster, your eyes move very
rapidly, heart rate goes up, and muscles are paralyzed.2 This is the stage where you dream.1
Polysomnography is a sleep study test that is used to identify any sleep disorders. During the sleep
study, thing such as brain waves, oxygen levels, eye movement and heart rate are recorded throughout
the entire sleep.3 Snap electrodes are used to record things like heart rate

Although the Chicago World s fair of 1893 only lasted 6 months, I had an enormous impact on the city

revolutionary at the time. Within the Fair s construction you can better see the progressive labor
movement that was sweeping the world at the time. The fair can be considered a turning point for
American labor. The term gilded means something of little value that is covered by a precious metal,
usually gold, to make it look more valuable. Mark Twain coined the term Gilded Age . It is an
appropriate analogy for a time when the very rich lived in the lap of luxary, and the very poor starved

Physically, the fair was designed to look magificant and permanent, and like it had been there for ages.

Mulan And The Hayes Code
Humberto Gonzalez Professor Gittings Wheeler ARH2740 884671 Mulan and the Hayes Code In
1998, Disney produced a groundbreaking movie that promoted girls to be themselves and be who they
are. The message this movie conveys is to always be yourself no matter what the social norm
promotes you to be. Despite this being a very heartwarming movie with a positive message, back in
the 1930 s it would have been considered heresy. The Hayes Code was enacted during this time and
enforced general rules onto films in order for them to stay morally acceptable for the public. This
Disney film breaks a few of those rules, most notably the first and third general principles, which
involve causing the audience to gain sympathy toward the side of the crime/wrongdoing, causing the
law to be ridiculed and indecent exposure during a bathing scene; which as a result caused me to not
agree with the Reasons Supporting the Preamble of the Code section of the Hayes Code. The first two
offenses this film involves swaying the audience s opinion in favor of Mulan, who has to put up with
demeaning actions toward her and ultimately breaks the law. In the beginning of the film, she is
getting prepared to attend a ceremony that will determine if she is an appropriate bride for marriage,
and also to determine if she will bring honor to her family. During this scene, a lucky cricket throws a

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Geospatial Satellite Imagery
Over the past decade, the ability of large financial institutions to accurately predict changes in the

Specifically, the introduction of affordable geospatial satellite imagery has enabled investment

information is used to inform trading decisions, which often result in large profits (Woyke). While
extremely useful, this technology is only available to a select number of institutions, as they have

Almitas Capital, a $150 million hedge fund in Southern California. The salesperson from Descartes

data is useless for trading purposes; it is simply too late to make a profitable decision. Phone
conversations with representatives from TellusLabs, Orbital Insight, and Quandl revealed the same
findings as Descartes Labs. Clearly, the larger institutions have a distinct advantage and the power to
block others from trading profitably in the commodities markets. If only large institutions have access

Sonnets In Shakespeare s Sonnets
Sonnets are known for its rigid format and being the hoard of poets flowery love confessions and
tormenting heartache. While most poets generally stick to that cliche topic of love and the traditional
English or Petrarchan structures, sonnets are not defined by these archetypal features. Both
Shakespeare s My mistress eyes are... and Collins s Sonnet satirically defy those typical sonnets.
However both poems differ, as Shakespeare follows the standard English sonnet style and parodies the
classic subject of love to show how ridiculous and idealistic love sonnets can be; while Collins on the
other hand, breaks free from those stern sonnet rules to joke about the strictness of sonnet structures to
define typical sonnet rules.
Shakespeare follows the English style of sonnets, while Collins partially follows the Petrarchan style.
Both sonnets include fourteen lines, a defining feature of the sonnet form. My mistress eyes are...
consists of three quatrains that describes his argument on love cliches, and ends with a couplet, the
turning point of English sonnets. The sonnet consists of ten syllables each line, adhering to the rhythm
of the iambic pentameter rule. Shakespeare s sonnet follows the usual rhyme scheme of an English
sonnet: abab cdcd efef gg. Conversely, Collins attempts to stray from the general sonnet principles in
contrast with Shakespeare. Sonnet loosely follows the Petrarchan style, as the lines are grouped into
one octave, a stanza of eight lines, and one sestet, a stanza of six lines, in structure. Collins s Sonnet
does not have a rhyme scheme, nor does the poem follow iambic pentameter. His sonnet does,
however, present his turn in the beginning of the sestet, a recurrent feature of a Petrarchan sonnet.
Collins begins poking fun at English sonnets in the octave, but then turns to joke at Petrarchan forms.
Both sonnets have a lighthearted, humorous tone, yet the poems parody the classic styles of sonnets in
different ways.
Shakespeare expresses his love for his mistress through metaphors, typical of sonnets about love.
However, those comparisons describe his poor mistress through unpleasant ways, in distinct to typical
love sonnets. Poets usually describe the beauty of their lover through

Analysis Of Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs
One quote people worldwide probably heard of is Magic Mirror on the wall, who is the fairest one of
all . In the 1930s, cinema was not one of the most viewed things, many people were being somewhat
affected by World War II. During an extremely catastrophic time, Walt Disney decided to create Snow
White and the Seven Dwarfs , a movie filled with imagination that formed an incredible legacy. This
movie was one of the earliest animated films at the time, and after a tremendous critical success, can
still be seen among our youth. It is a classic Oscar nominated film that should be watched by children,
teenagers and young adults. The fascinating plot captured the audience since the beginning. An evil
queen, who aspired to be the most beautiful woman in her kingdom, had a magic mirror to which she
asked if there was someone more beautiful than her. When the mirror responded that the young
Princess Snow White was infinitely more beautiful, the queen was enraged, and ordered a hunter to
take the girl to the forest and kill her. The hunter, taking pity on Snow White, left her and gave her
instructions to run as fast as she could. As the wicked queen demanded that the girl s heart be brought
to him, to show that he indeed fulfilled the order, the hunter killed a deer and teared out the heart, and
presented it to the queen as if it were Snow White s.
Meanwhile, Snow White takes refuge in a small house, property of seven charming dwarfs that
welcome her affectionately. But the queen

1932 and was Kuala Lumpur last major colonial hotel. Today, the hotel has been converted into a
pyramid shaped block art gallery showcasing the work of Malaysian artists located between Jalan
Tunk Razak and Lake TItiwangsa. National Art Gallery was founded in the late 1950s, boasting fine
Malay art with long ridge roof concept adapted from traditional Malays house and a very unusual
modern structure, built with a combination of glass, metal and slate. National Art Gallery aims to
display to the world some of the local artwork, hosts seminars, workshops and competitions in the
local and international arena to promote the appreciation of the arts by the younger generation. Each
building has its own concept which defines what kind of design it used. The roof design of the
National Art Gallery adopted the combination of aluminium rainscreen cladding with curtain wall
system. The following will briefly discuss on the system used: ►Aluminium Rainscreen Cladding
Rainscreen cladding is a lightweight and durable panelling system that consists of an outer leaf with
air gaps, a ventilated cavity and an inner wall. The cavity is to generate pressure to impede the ingress
of water through the open joints. The open joints between is to permit air movement for drying out the
moisture that gets through the joints. It consist different finishes like cladding panels, brick, ceramic

Transformations of the Land: Agricultural Landuse and Soil Carbon Management Introduction:
1. Soils as a pool of carbon play a critical role in the global carbon cycle, because soils contain
approximately 75% of the carbon pool on land; this is three times more than three times the amount of
carbon that is stored in living plants and animals. 2. Through photosynthesis, plants absorb carbon,
and some of the carbon taken in by these plants remains as plant tissue. The plant tissue is then
ingested by animals or is added to the soil as litter when plants decompose. Carbon is primarily stored
in the soil as soil organic matter. Plants return carbon to the atmosphere from the soil reservoir via
respiration. Carbon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If Hotchkiss wants to store carbon in the soil, then the school should be grazing cattle as opposed to
cultivating the land for crops, because cultivating the land destroys the soil organic matter that respires
carbon and the deep root systems that deposit carbon into deep soil layers through methods such as
tilling. By grazing cattle, the deep root systems are kept intact, and the soil organic matter is not
destroyed. 3. One management practice that can help to reduce the impact of cultivation on soil carbon
on the Hotchkiss farm is the use of no till farming. When no till farming is used, the amount of water
that infiltrates into the soil is increased and therefore organic matter retention is increased. No till
farming can help to sequester carbon via the storage of soil organic matter in the field s soil. Since
there is no tilling, the soil organic matter is not being broken down as quickly and therefore carbon is
not being lost from the soil as

Essay on Fiscal Policy
Fiscal Policy can be explained in many ways, for example. Fiscal policy is the use of the government
budget to affect an economy. When the government decides on the taxes that it collects, the transfer
payments it gives out, or the goods and services that it purchases, it is engaging in fiscal policy. The
primary economic impact of any change in the government budget is felt by particular groups a tax cut
for families with children, for example, raises the disposable income of such families. Discussions of
fiscal policy, however, usually focus on the effect of changes in the government budget on the overall
economy on such macroeconomic variables as GNP and unemployment and inflation.

This policy involves increasing government spending and cutting taxes, in order to spur economic
output. But if the government decides they need to do the opposite the government may adopt
concretionary fiscal policy. This involves a reduction in government spending and an increase in taxes
when faced with an overheating economy. But these actions, may have other effects in the economy.
For instance, and expansionary fiscal policy may lead to the crowding out of investment.
Like every other government controlled organization there is a group of people who are control of
Fiscal Policy. There is a Council of Economics. These men are called Council of Economic Advisors.
In the Council of Advisors there are three people. There is a Chairmen and two members. Even though
there are not a lot of people in this council it is a very important council. These three men are very
influential to the President. The Council of Economic Advisors haves five main jobs to do.
First off the Council must assist and advise the President in the preparation of the Economic Report.
Secondly they must gather timely and authoritative information concerning economic developments
and economic trends, both current and prospective and must analyze and interpret such information.
Thirdly they must appraise the various programs and activities of the Federal Government in

beloved country. Through immense sacrifice, individuals basically sell their souls away to the military.
They are subject to countless hours of brutal training and exposed to living conditions many people
could not compare too. Members of the armed forces are often seen as discipline, respectful, and
hardworking people, especially when they are retuning back to U.S soil from whatever tour they

Second Persian Gulf War or Gulf War 2, started in March 2003 with the combined invasion of Iraq by
the United States and Great Britain. President George Bush urged the invasion of Iraq for two reasons.
First, the vulnerability of the United States following the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001.
Secondly, the belief in Iraq producing weapons of mass destruction and their support for terrorist
groups in the region. In the early stages of the invasion, Iraqi troops did not stand a chance against the
invading countries. Iraqi military forces were forced to flee or surrender which allowed for a relatively
easy takeover of the country. With his county being completely dominated by allied forces, Iraqi

Teen Depression And Suicide
Teen Depression and Suicide
Mother Teresa once said, Loneliness and the feeling of being unwanted is the most terrible poverty.
Studies have shown that approximately 20% of teens experience depression before they reach
adulthood. According to the American Psychiatric Association, depression is a common and serious
mental illness that negatively affects how you feel and act. While it is treatable through therapy or
medication, only 1 in 3 teens who suffer from depression receive the treatment they need after their
diagnosis. Suicide is the second leading cause of death for young adults ages 15 to 24 in fact, studies
have shown that someone takes their own life every 100 minutes. Young adults with enormous
potential are taking their own lives at alarming rates, and these numbers may very well continue to
increase unless we band together as a society to take action. In order to help teens with depression
eliminate the risk of suicide, doctors must administer depression screenings, teachers must be trained
on how to deal with and respond to mental illnesses, and parents must be educated on the signs and
treatment of depression. One way to help teens with undiagnosed depression get help is to add
screenings for depression to routine doctor checkups for patients ages 12 to 18. Depression screenings
may be presented as a short questionnaire or a simple conversation with your doctor in which you are
asked about your feelings and behaviors. The process usually takes only five

In Our Time by Ernest Hemingway
In Our Time, written by Ernest Hemingway, is a collection of short stories that were published in 1925
and defined Hemingway s writing style from there on. As a symbolic image of Hemingway himself,
Nick Adams is faced with troubling relationships that ultimately define who he is. Life experiences
from young to old define show how Nick lives his love before, during, and after World War One.
These experiences strengthen his relationships, maturity, and masculinity. One of the most important
themes, masculinity, is portrayed directly at the start of Hemingway s short story collection starting
with Indian Camp. In the first short story the reader sees the novels protagonist, Nick Adams ,
response to violence and suffering inflicted on others will ultimately define his own sense of
masculinity (Frazier). Witnessing this dramatic event at such a young age will define Nick s life and
change the way he views certain aspects of life just from watching a woman give birth. Nick s
maturity and responsibility are also themes that are greatly exploited just as well as his masculinity.
The reader first learns about Nick and his relationships with his girlfriend Marjorie in the short story
titled The End of Something. The title of this section symbolically relates to what is happening
because Nick and Marjorie get into an argument which seems to end their relationship. Lisa Tyler
states what Hemingway seems to be suggesting in In Our Time is that men s characters are

The Biased Media Essay examples
In today s society television news is an entertainment medium which was intended to provide
information to the public on current issues, but that is not its prime function any more. It s also meant
to help viewers see issues from different perspectives. Being objective on a certain issue cannot
always exist so there is a bias of some sort in every news station. Each news station has a specific
point of view and they try to persuade the viewers to agree with them. To do this they use specific
evidence to support the idea, and specific language to help you to believe that idea.

We should have the ability to watch a news station and get details and be able to decide on a situation
on our own.
There are many arguments when it comes to this issue. Some people think that the media has a liberal
bias; some people think that there is a conservative view. The real issue is that there is a bias opinion
and this is changing the way that people perceive the media. According to Tyler Cohen `Media Bias Is
Not a Serious Problem it doesn t matter that the media has a biased opinion. He states that people are
aware that the media is bias and because of that they keep in mind when watching. He also states that
people want to watch stations that have the same opinion as them (2005). Most people to watch
specific news stations that do have the same belief as them, but we should be able to watch whatever
station we want and be able to get the same type of information.
The question of the media having a liberal bias definitely been around for some time now. Because the
media has received so many complaints about having this slanted view some think that the media has
changed. According to E.J. Dionne s article `Liberal Media Bias Is a Myth the media has gotten better.
He states that on social and cultural issues, the media was reporting more objectively (2002). In his
article he brings up the issue that now that the media is trying to not be so liberal they are now going
to have a new bias. It is a constant battle.

Demythologizing Rizal Whether you are discussing your neighbor, your foe, a government official or

the gossip that he was an illegitimate son of Klara Polzl and Jose Rizal when Rizal visited Linz in

Antonio Luna s better half truly was a presidential progenitor named Isidra Cojuangco. At whatever

Fracking Technology On Extraction Of Shale Gas And Oil Essay
Fracking technology. What are the environmental and health issues related to fracking technology on
extraction of shale gas and oil?
Unconventional gas and oil extraction process known as hydraulic fracturing, hydrofracking or
fracking is a technique used to extract shale gas and oil, on which high pressure fluid is injected,
mainly water, containing sand, chemicals or other granular materials which are pumped with a fluid
medium under pressure into rock, so that fractures formed in this process are held open when the
pressure is released, allowing oil or gas to flow more freely suspended, with the aid of thickening
agents.
Once that unconventional gas and oil extraction (fracking) has becoming widespread practice and a
concern in some countries, particularly in the United States of America (USA), relatively about
potential environmental risks and human health outcome, as well as potential routes of human

scientists, and epidemiologists. This essay will present and analyse the challenges imposed by
hydraulic fracturing to extract oil and shale gas, particularly related with environmental and health
issues.
Hydrofracking began in 1947 as an application in the USA and was followed in 1950 by the first
commercially successful application. Although, only recently (in 2007 the method was first used by

Ethnic groups are made up people who share a unique social and cultural background. Society has put
in our minds that we need ethnic identifications to feel part of a certain group of people. These
feelings of belonging or attachment to a certain group of people is a normal thing for us humans but,
why can t we be more than one? Many people shame on you for identifying yourself with one certain

Many times people look at a person and assume they are a specific race. Newsflash people! Mexican
Americans can all come in different types of coloring. There are the typical stereotypical remarks like,
You need to be brown to be Mexican, and if you are darker skinned then they assume you come from

that there are light and dark skinned people in every ethnicity. If you are a light Mexican, people judge
you for it since you fooled them. If a person looks white but then they start speaking Spanish, others

trachea mask, nasal gastric tube, tube feeding for nutrition, non weight bearing to the lower
extremities secondary to fractures (non weight bearing is projected at 6 to 8 more weeks), and the
right arm has a cast. Occupational therapy said they get her up in a cardiac chairs but she is a full lift
by staff. Ms. Perez weighed 312 lbs. Respiratory therapy reported that they will try to wean her
trachea size down and work towards capping and then removing at some point. Mr. Perez asked what
pain medication she was on because all she does is sleep. I asked the case manager to check and she
what her level of alertness is on the second and third shifts. Per the EMS and ER report Ms. Perez was

once in ER she was alert and oriented. The CT scan of the head was negative. Nursing reported that
she is only on one Norco every eight hours for pain and a very low dose of Gabapentin. He also
reported that a Neuropsychologist was in on Sunday to see her, and he increased her Cymbalta. We did
confirm with Mr. Perez that before the accident Ms. Perez used a walker in the house and that he

  • 2. The Validity Of A Scientific Theory The world is a complicated place that works in mysterious ways, but people, with their inquisitive minds, refuse to let even the most confounding puzzles go unsolved. Science provides explanations for aspect of the world with no tangible evidence. But more often than not, science gets it wrong. One way to test the validity of a scientific theory is the use of the Hypothetico Deductive Method. The results of such a method provide evidence of confirmation or disconfirmation, though these results cannot always be trusted. The world is complicated, thus it requires an equally complicated instrument of discovery. With such complexity, philosophical problems in reasoning are bound to arise, but there is always a solution to such issues. The Hypothetico Deductive Method, called H D from here on out, is a way of reasoning about theoretical (dis)conformation where a person deduces an observational prediction from a hypothesis. Said hypothesis is then tested to determine whether or not the theory is confirmed. The basic H D model states HO, if the hypothesis is true, then the prediction will be observed. This basic model consists of basic confirming and basic disconfirming instances of experiments, which state, respectively, O/H, the prediction is true and observed, therefore the hypothesis is confirmed, and ~O/~H, the prediction is not true and not observed, therefore the hypothesis is disconfirmed. For the swan theory, an experiment would be set up in which the experimenter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis of Elizabeth Bishops the Moose Elizabeth Bishop s The Moose is a narrative poem of 168 lines. Its twenty eight six line stanzas are not rigidly structured. Lines vary in length from four to eight syllables, but those of five or six syllables predominate. The pattern of stresses is lax enough almost to blur the distinction between verse and prose; the rhythm is that of a low keyed speaking voice hovering over the descriptive details. The eyewitness account is meticulous and restrained. The poem concerns a bus traveling to Boston through the landscape and towns of New Brunswick. While driving through the woods, the bus stops because a moose has wandered onto the road. The appearance of the animal interrupts the peaceful hum of elderly passengers voices. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus the first part, devoted to the landscape, is richly descriptive, replete with qualifying epithets that, toward the end (in line 75 and in line 81), come in by threes, like beads on a string. In the second part, dealing with the passengers plight, learned, latinate words such as divagation, auditory, hallucination, eternity, and acceptance signal the presence of the narrator commentator. In the third part—the one reserved for the moose—epithets return. In the climactic twenty fourth stanza, the most distinctly poetic devices—explicit comparisons—are bestowed on the protagonist: high as a church,/ homely as a house. Moreover, the four additional epithets lavished on the moose contribute to the grandeur of its appearance: towering, antlerless, and grand, otherworldly. By careful calibration and timing of her tropes, Bishop succeeds superbly in achieving her ends. Contrast is attained by her control over all compartments of language, and her austere, restrained tone and strategy of deferral and understatement are dramatically effective. Themes and Meanings The Moose is ultimately about the human need to be purged and, if possible, cured of selfhood. Self absorption or narcissism is not only a passing malaise afflicting teenagers. Older people regard themselves in the mirror of their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analyzing the Knowledge of Plate Tectonics Essay Analyzing the Knowledge of Plate Tectonics In order to manage anything successfully you need to have some sort of basic knowledge about what you are managing, otherwise you may be doing more harm than good because something seems the right thing to do without any basis in fact or visual evidence. If you know why something happens it will be easier to predict future plate tectonic movement by looking for the signs of an approaching earthquake or volcanic eruption and so minimizing the danger by taking the actions necessary because so far it is impossible to stop them and if it were the earth would not be able to release its underground pressure and shake itself apart so prevention is not an option. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to prepare for earthquakes, people living in earthquake zones need to be educated about them and know what to do in an emergency such as standing under doorways or having emergency tools, which can be hard in the LEDW as the information may not be readily available in the rural areas and buildings in the urban areas may not be built to withstand them as doing so would be too expensive but they can still have supplies of food and other such items to survive if they are involved in an earthquake. Volcanoes are harder to prepare for as they can cause more damage, which cannot be avoided by standing under a doorframe. Houses are not easily be reinforced to withstand a volcanic eruption, they can be strengthened to endure the vibrations caused by the eruption but not usually against lava flows as not many things can stand the high temperatures and even if they could the house would be buried under rapidly cooling molten rock so the best thing to do if you see a lave flow heading to your home is to pack as much as you can and evacuate the area. To prepare for a volcanic eruption can involve making zones of risk around the volcano where are most likely to suffer the worst of the damage and evacuate as many people in these zones as possible which is what happened before the major eruption of Mt St Helens in 1980. ... The Reconstruction Era went on from 1863 to 1877. It was taken place in the South, it was the greatest problem that still remained after the Civil War and had to be solved. In general, the changes made after the Civil War did not help African Americans move closer to achieving the American Dream due to the economic, political and social problems that they faced due to the reconstruction. The problems that southerners produced around the Reconstruction Acts stopped blacks from having any say economically in the Reconstruction Era, distancing them away from the economic freedom they had always wanted and achieving the American Dream. One of the biggest economic problems they faced was sharecropping. A sharecropper was a tenant farmer especially in the southern US who is provided with credit for land, tools, living quarters, and food, who works on the land, and who receives an agreed share of the value of the crop minus charges(Sharecropping Worksheet). The landowners soil was not guaranteed to be good as well, and if it was bad then it made it harder for the farmers to grow crops. Dealing with all of this made it very hard for farmers to actually make enough money to pay the landowner back and have enough money to do tenant farming. Which made it nearly impossible to get out of sharecropping and achieve the American Dream. The Black Codes also impacted African Americans ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is true that water plays an important in our lives; nobody can survive without water. Importantly, water is a scarce resource which means that society has insufficient productive resources to meet all citizens needs. Once the scarce resource becomes more and more terrified, people will turn to limit the usage. Since California has been dried for four years continuously and reached near crisis proportion, on April 1, 2015, Governor Jerry Brown signed an executive order that will restrict urban water usage by 25 percent to deal with the drought (Nagourney). Mulan And The Hayes Code Humberto Gonzalez Professor Gittings Wheeler ARH2740 884671 Mulan and the Hayes Code In 1998, Disney produced a groundbreaking movie that promoted girls to be themselves and be who they are. The message this movie conveys is to always be yourself no matter what the social norm promotes you to be. Despite this being a very heartwarming movie with a positive message, back in the 1930 s it would have been considered heresy. The Hayes Code was enacted during this time and enforced general rules onto films in order for them to stay morally acceptable for the public. This Disney film breaks a few of those rules, most notably the first and third general principles, which involve causing the audience to gain sympathy toward the side of the crime/wrongdoing, causing the law to be ridiculed and indecent exposure during a bathing scene; which as a result caused me to not agree with the Reasons Supporting the Preamble of the Code section of the Hayes Code. The first two offenses this film involves swaying the audience s opinion in favor of Mulan, who has to put up with demeaning actions toward her and ultimately breaks the law. While most poets generally stick to that cliche topic of love and the traditional English or Petrarchan structures, sonnets are not defined by these archetypal features. Both Shakespeare s My mistress eyes are... and Collins s Sonnet satirically defy those typical sonnets. However both poems differ, as Shakespeare follows the standard English sonnet style and parodies the classic subject of love to show how ridiculous and idealistic love sonnets can be; while Collins on the other hand, breaks free from those stern sonnet rules to joke about the strictness of sonnet structures to define typical sonnet rules. Shakespeare follows the English style of sonnets, while Collins partially follows the Petrarchan style. Both sonnets include fourteen lines, a defining feature of the sonnet form. My mistress eyes are... consists of three quatrains that describes his argument on love cliches, and ends with a couplet, the turning point of English sonnets. The sonnet consists of ten syllables each line, adhering to the rhythm of the iambic pentameter rule. Shakespeare s sonnet follows the usual rhyme scheme of an English sonnet: abab cdcd efef gg. Conversely, Collins attempts to stray from the general sonnet principles in contrast with Shakespeare. Sonnet loosely follows the Petrarchan style, as the lines are grouped into one octave, a stanza of eight lines, and one sestet, a stanza of six lines, in structure. Collins s Sonnet does not have a rhyme scheme, nor does the poem follow iambic pentameter. His sonnet does, however, present his turn in the beginning of the sestet, a recurrent feature of a Petrarchan sonnet. Collins begins poking fun at English sonnets in the octave, but then turns to joke at Petrarchan forms. Both sonnets have a lighthearted, humorous tone, yet the poems parody the classic styles of sonnets in different ways. If Hotchkiss wants to store carbon in the soil, then the school should be grazing cattle as opposed to cultivating the land for crops, because cultivating the land destroys the soil organic matter that respires carbon and the deep root systems that deposit carbon into deep soil layers through methods such as tilling. By grazing cattle, the deep root systems are kept intact, and the soil organic matter is not destroyed. 3. One management practice that can help to reduce the impact of cultivation on soil carbon on the Hotchkiss farm is the use of no till farming. When no till farming is used, the amount of water that infiltrates into the soil is increased and therefore organic matter retention is increased.
