Skills And Ethics Of Human Services Course
In my CEPD 3200: Skills and Ethics in Human Services course, I had to complete three hours of
service learning in a facility of my choice. For my Service Learning Project, I volunteered at Southern
Hills Christian Church, a local church that my family attends. Southern Hills Christian Church has a
church service for children in Kindergarten 3rd grade called All Stars , which is where I completed my
service learning hours. I chose to complete my hours at the church in the children s department
because I have an interest in wanting to work with children as a career. Also, I am an active volunteer
at my church, so I did not need to go through any background checks, paperwork, etc. The following
is what I did while completing my service learning hours, what I learned, and how I can apply this into
the real world. The All Stars children service at Southern Hills Christian Church runs for three
different services on Sunday mornings, and one service on Wednesday nights. I attended two separate
Sunday morning services and one Wednesday night service. The two Sunday morning services that I
attended were each on a different Sunday. Before each service begins, there is a game rom that the
children who attend service can play in while they are waiting for service to commence, as some come
early before the service starts. Since I came early, I used this time to interact with the children, such as
asking how their day was going, playing games with the children, etc. As a counselor,

Essay on Ragtime and Blues Influence on Jazz

Seeing Ragtime and Blues as Parents of Jazz Jazz is a music genre that has complex characteristics
and history of development and thus many musicians and scholars face troubles in defining what jazz
is. In general, jazz is believed to have born in New Orleans. Jazz developed for the pleasure of the
social dancers. According to the Understanding Jazz: What Is Jazz? of John F. Kennedy center for the
Performing Arts, Jazz was created mainly by Afro Americans, and had elements of European and Afro
American culture. Also, it emphasizes few elements of Jazz, which are swing feel, syncopation, and
improvisation. These different culture and elements of jazz may be explained by how jazz ... Show

Thus the similarity between ragtime and blues is significant but there are numerous differences
between the two music styles. First, their origin was different. Even though they both had African
influence as mentioned, ragtime was more strongly influenced by European music style, and blues
was heavily African music style. According to Durk Sutro in his book Jazz for Dummies, Ragtime was
European influenced, in the sense that it was composed, not improvised, and featured carefully crafted
melodies and harmonies...ragtime could sound concisely European (ch.5). Although European
influenced, there is some African influence such as rhythm and African banjo music as mentioned
during the lecture. Ragtime rhythm was the rhythms of the black dancers who used their heels to make
drum sounds, or to that of the black church singers who could vary the rhythms of a Christian hymn so
much that a white Christian could not even recognize it (Tirro, pp.37).
On the other hand, Blues were basically from work songs of African Americans slaves at the time. It is
a native American music, the product of the black man in this country, or, to put it more exactly the
way I have come to think about it, blues could not exist if the African captives had not become
American captives (pp.17), said Jones and Baraka. In Jazz A History, Frank Tirro wisely analyzes and
explains the relationship between the unique background and

Swan Lake Belonging
Director Darren Aronofsky names his film after the main character Nina main struggle in the movie.
Instead, of the naming the film Swan Lake he names it after one of the characters in the play. The
black swam is a hard character for the fragile, innocent Nina to grasp. Especially, under all the
pressure Nina put upon herself. Nina s mother lives vicariously through her daughter and has placed
Nina under a firm control. This pressure of her mother and her director Tomas do not help Nina but
lead her to the destruction of herself mentally, and physically. To begin, Nina s mother has Nina
placed in a bedroom made for a young girl and has no sort of privacy. In order to attain piracy from
her over controlling mother, she uses a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nina mind is not fully developed to be an adult she is still in child like mind because of her mother.
Her mothers controlling parenting has caused Nina to stay dependent on her like a child. Tomas gives
Nina the role of Snow Queen because when he tried to kiss her, she bit his lip to make him stop. When
Nina bit Tomas lip it showed a sign of the Black Swan in Nina. Nina wants to be perfect in every way
she can so she practices everyday and takes some of Beth s belonging because she thought it would
help become a prefect dancer. This is similar to a young girl taking her mother s make up to put on
because she wants to be just like her mother because her mother is her role model. Nina looks up to
Beth as a prefect dancer a role model. Nina is the perfect White Swan, and has to figure out how to
become, the Black Swam the alternate version of the White Swan. In order to become the Black Swan
Nina starts to envision a darker vision of her. Nina has child like innocents slowly loses herself into
the illusion of the Black Swan because of her mother supreme coddling. When her mother is afraid of
what Nina starts to become she tries to control Nina by locking into the house. However, this pushes
Nina even more to tap into the dark side of herself or the Black Swan character. If

Mental Illnesses In College Campuses
Colleges provide a unique opportunity to identify, prevent, or treat mental disorders because campuses
often encompass students residences, social networks, and many services, writes Linda Cook. Often, if
a student is struggling, campus resources are the first place they turn. Whether a student turns to a
professor, campus clinic staff member, or resident assistant, the hope is that they will be met with
compassion. Colleges and universities should require their staff and students to be well informed
about common mental illnesses that often emerge in the college years. Awareness of signs and
symptoms, available treatments and resources, and proper ways to intervene can help fight the mental
health crisis. Yet many colleges still improperly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a study that measured how much knowledge college students possessed when it came to their
campus mental health resources 37 percent of responders said they did not have enough information
about their campus s mental health resources to contact them. 30 percent of responders said they had
never heard of the services available at their campus. 38 percent said they had heard about the services
but knew nothing about them (Yorgason et al.). Awareness of campus resources is low, partly because
of stigma, but also, perhaps, because colleges are not raising enough awareness. A simple flyer
advertising mental health resources available on campus could save a life. The link to the counseling
center being present on the university s homepage, rather than being buried beneath information about
summer classes and tips for graduate papers, could stop one student from dropping out. A simple
mention of the counseling center at freshman orientation could motivate a student to seek out the help
that they deserve. Colleges and universities have the obligation to maintain their image, but they also
have an obligation to their students to make them aware of the resources they can make use of. Many
colleges and universities now offer an Active Minds group. Active Minds is a

Freedom Issues For The Native American Freedom
The idea most central to all Americans is our right to freedom. These freedoms are things that are
listed in Declaration of Independence and our nation s Constitution. Numerous President have used
the idea of freedom to gather support for war such as the Civil War, World War II, and the Cold War.
In America freedom has been sought after and fought for by different groups, even though it is the
basis for what America stands for numerous groups have been deprived. These groups of African
American, women, Native Americans, and other minorities have fought to include themselves in the
freedom that was guaranteed to them. Native Americans have suffered for a long period of time by the
people who settled their land, starting in colonial times. The American government has wronged them
in numerous ways and the Native Americans have had to fight for the freedoms and equalities they
have. Freedom issues for the Native American are cultural and religious freedoms. The denial of
freedoms affect their ability to worship ceremonially and traditionally. They include lack of access to
their religious sites, sacred objects, and termination of aid (pluralism.org). In the 1960s the Indian
Termination policy, would force them to be incorporated into America, as well as end their
independence. They stopped development projects and cut off federal service. In 1975 The Indian Self
determination Act confirmed the rights of tribes. The Act also allowed confirmed tribes to get federal

Changes Through Time Analysis
After completing The Changes through Time activity I learned what kind of person I am, what kind of
person I was, and what kind of person I am going to be. To begin with, this activity made me realise
what kind of person I am. I learned that I am a very respectful, intelligent, and clam person. This is a
very important because I discovered who I really am. Secondly, this activity made me realise what
kind of person I used to be. I used to be a very stubborn and active person. This made me realise that
the changes have improved in many ways (attitude), but not all changes were positive, for example, I
became less active/athletic. Thirdly, this activity made me realise who I was going to become. I felt
like I was going to become a respectful, determined, and successful person. This activity has helped
me make life goals and also exceeded my determination. To summarize, in this activity I learned what
kind of person I am, what kind of person I was, and what kind of person I am going to be.

Active Directory Management Tools
The Bottom Line
The Active Directory administrative tools simplify directory service administration. You can use the
standard tools or, use Microsoft Management Console (MMC) to create custom tools that focus on
single management tasks or to combine several tools into one console.
When you install Active Directory Directory Services on a Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server
2008 R2, you will find the following tools on the Administrative Tools menu: * Active Directory
Users and Computers. Used to create, configure and manage objects in Active Directory such as users,
groups, computers and organizational units. * Active Directory Domains and Trusts. Used to manage
domains, domain trust relationships, domain trees and forests. * Active Directory Sites and Services.
Used to create and configure and manage sites and subnets. It is also used to manage replication
between domain controllers. * Group Policy Management Console GPMC). A single console that
allows you to view and manage GPOs across sites, domains and organizational units.
Another tool found on Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2 domain controllers is the Active Directory
Schema. Unlike the previously mentioned MMC snap ins, the Active Directory Schema snap in is not
available on the Administrative Tools. Instead, you have to manually install Active Directory Schema
and create a MMC for it. As the name

Paying Pirate Demands Essay
When many people think of pirates they think of the fictitious Hollywood films that depict the
animated characters that have shaped our perception of pirates today. The reality of the situation is that
pirates are very real and have emerged as a major threat to the maritime industry as well as ship
owners and national economies alike. Although the threat of piracy has yet to receive the attention that
many feel it deserves, piracy has increasingly affected the way in which the maritime industry
conducts business with other countries in many ways. Piracy not only affects the involved nations
both economically and politically, it also contributes to ship owners overall cost structures as well as
day to day operations. We will discuss ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When very few measures to defend against piracy are implemented, it simply encourages piracy
across the world because there is essentially less risk associated with it. Due to the attractiveness of
piracy, there has been an overall trend of a drastically increasing amount of pirate attacks and
attempts. In the year 2000, worldwide piracy attacks that were reported to the International Maritime
Bureau totaled 469 separate incidents, which was an increase of 56% when compared to the previous
year s figures (Rosenberg). This graph by David Rosenberg visually depicts this trend of an
exponential increase in piracy reporting from 1978 2000: Although laws do exist, such as the U.S. Led
Resolution 1851, that deem piracy illegal and authorize states and governments to take action against
pirate attacks, they have been very ineffective in deterring pirate attacks (Alessi, 2012). As the
government led initiatives are ineffective in preventing piracy from occurring, ship owners are faced
with very tough ethical decisions when determining how to mitigate risk associated with pirate
attacks. Many of the questions they face tackle issues of whether or not to reroute their shipments to
avoid the pirating hot spots, how they can best train and protect their crew to keep them safe, and if
they do become victim of a pirate attack, is it best to pay the ransom to the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of E-Retailing

Individual and start up e tailers may be launched from a single room with one computer and expand
rapidly rather than pay for an entire building with expensive overhead. E tailers may trace consumers
shopping behaviour while gaining valuable insights into their spending habits, which may lead to
increased revenue. In addition, customers shop from the comfort of their homes at any time rather than
being physically present in the store during specific hours.
3.3 Disadvantages of Electronic Retailing
However, creating and maintaining an e tailing website may be expensive. Infrastructure costs for
order fulfilment, warehousing goods, dealing with returns and other issues add up quickly. Also,
consumers may not trust a company that is not well established and may not buy from it as frequently
as a brick and mortar store.
In addition, e tailing does not provide the emotional shopping experience encouraging consumer
spending the way being physically present in stores does. E tailing does not let consumers hold, smell,
feel or try products or services for the sensory support of buying them. It also does not provide the
personal service many consumers are accustomed to when

To ask a question corresponding to John Brown being a Freedom Fighter or Terrorist is so much as an

Most people see John Brown as a terrorist, if you relate him to the acts of Isis or the hijacking at 911

Food Revolution Reflection
In the book, The Good Food Revolution tells the impactful story of Will Allen. The book goes into full
detail about the struggles that lead up to his accomplishments. Will Allen has had an adventurous and
eventful life that has allowed him to learn so much from his own experiences. The book is told in first
person which allows the reader to feel personally connected to Will Allen as his life story unravels. As
Will Allen tells his story he talks about the people who helped him along the way. He mentions how
his family and the people he had met stood by his side and how they influenced him. Personally, when
I read books that are told in first person point of view it makes me feel more connected to the
individual, and what they are telling me. I am able to feel such a close connection and find a way to
relate to the story even better. The way Will Allen s story is expressed through words on a page does
not feel like that at all. I honestly felt like I was having a one on one conversation with Will Allen
when reading the book. It felt like he was telling me in person all his stories and his background
history. I believe the first person point of view positively affected the book. Throughout the beginning

A Christmas Memory Analysis
A Christmas Memory is an eloquently written account of Truman Capote s last Christmas with his
dear friend, Sook. The story is set during the 1930 s, right after the depression, in a rural Southern part
of Alabama. Capote recalls his last Christmas with Sook, who is a sixty something (3) year old woman
who has childlike tendencies. Sook refers to Capote as Buddy throughout the story. Buddy and Sook
share a home with other relatives, who throughout the story, berate them with harsh words and are
overall unkind. However, the relatives unknowingly strengthen their bond and aid in forging an
unbreakable friendship between the two. Capote manages to pen a captivating memoir of his last
Christmas with Sook using an engaging writing style with an enthralling use of vivid language. One of
the ways Capote captivates his readers is by using vivid language to make us feel joyful, giddy and
excited. My dancing shadow rollicks on the walls; our voices rock the chinaware; we giggle: as if
unseen hands were tickling us (23). Notably, the way this passage is composed gives the reader a
sense of silliness as we imagine the auditory impulsively of loud singing. His whimsical language is
taken a step further with his use of ...unseen hands were tickling us (23), as it makes the reader
visualize being tickled until they are out of breath. Another way he uses imagery is with, ...the
beginnings of dawn splash us like cold water... (36). This makes the reader feel as though they are
being abruptly splashed with cold water. Capote wanted to grasp the urgency of waking up Christmas
morning and capture the excitement of not wanting to make waste of time. Capote uses vivid language
to make us feel cheerful; likewise, he also uses it to make us feel the heaviness of heartache within the
household. Not only does Capote use language to depict a sense of happiness, similarly, he also uses it
to portray a sense of misery and somberness. During the whiskey scene, the relatives in the household
erupt into the room with, eyes that scold, tongues that scald (24). The verbiage used is sharp and
graphic. In the same passage, the relatives say, shame! scandal! humiliation! kneel, pray, beg the Lord!
(24). The three things that are of the

The Importance Of Writing In The Colonial Language
Additionally, it can be used to communicate with other indigenous people who speak different
languages, but understand the same issues of colonialism. In the specific case of some African states,
such as Achebe s Nigeria, the English language became the lingua franca of the national bourgeoisie
representative of the various national ethnicities, on the one hand, and the forces of colonialism and
transnational capital, on the other.
Indeed, postcolonial literature in the colonial language is a double edged sword. Without its use, the
writing may never reach a wide audience, as it is impossible to translate every work into each different
indigenous language. Furthermore, those who have experienced a diaspora after colonization, such as
the Africans who were transported to colonial lands, lost their indigenous language. Their ancestors
grew up with the colonial language, and unless they learn their indigenous language, they have no
choice to write in the colonial language. Yet, writing in the colonial language furthermore reflects the
power that colonists still exert today, that their language must be used to describe the aftereffects of
their subjugation of another country. The colonial language becomes culturally more powerful,
devaluing the native language as it is brought into its domain, domesticated, and accommodated.
Ultimately, the writers must take into consideration the positives and negatives of each approach. They
have the choice to write in either language,

David Foster Wallace, Jessica Mittford s Essay
Being considerate toward everybody and everything is the ideal goal that everybody hopes to achieve.
Though the idea of being considerate is different depending on the person so reaching that point in the
world is impossible to achieve since there is no baseline for that, we have many competing ideas as to
what that could be. Some people see being considerate as being thoughtful of other people but others
will see it as a deeper meaning with being courteous toward all living things on Earth and their
belongings. There are so many different ways to be considerate and the readings of David Foster
Wallace, Jessica Mittford, and Caitlin Doughty all have underlying messages of how people need to be
more aware of what they are doing. Each piece ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is after he just gets done about talking about his own thoughts on the lobsters and how it is alright
if people keep eating it. Now if he is fine with people eating lobsters and wants to keep eating animals
on his own time why does he spend time writing this entire essay? This essay is filled with so many
sensory details that the reader can feel such as the noise of the scuttling against the boiling pot with
the lobster in it. He does this on purpose to bring to light something you may not think about or brush
off as nothing is actually going against your morals. Wallace poses an interesting question in the
conclusion of his essay by saying, Do you think much about the (possible) moral status and (probable)
suffering of the animals involved? If you do, what ethical convictions have you worked out that permit
you not just to eat but to savor and enjoy flesh based viands (510). This is his whole purpose of
writing this essay since this question alone brings you back through his entire essay and all the
insignificant details he talked about and made you realize how significant they are in the amount of
harm you may be bringing to the animal. This whole idea of awareness and making sure your actions
line up with your morales is echoed in the writings of Jessica Mittford in her story The American Way
of Death Revisited. Mittford opens the eyes of the reader to see what American s see as a

Compare And Contrast Eastern And Western Dichotomy
The East and West are two very different worlds regarding the way Easterners and Westerners think
and lead their lives. Religion and culture play significant parts in society both in both parts of the
world. The way of thinking and the education of children differ in so many ways from each other. This
paper gives a researched view into the cultures and thoughts of both Eastern and Western worlds.
Keywords: Eastern, Western, culture, religion, world, education
What is the Eastern and Western world in a nutshell? The Eastern and Western dichotomy is mostly
based upon cultural rather than geographical concepts. Although Australia is in the East, it is grouped
with the Western World. Asian and Islamic nations have been regarded as the Eastern World and
Australia, Canada, Europe, New Zealand and the United States are regarded as the Western World. .

Seamus Heaney Digging
amp;#8220;Digging ; is about a person looking out of a window at their Father digging, describing
what he/she sees and then the poem goes on to describe what he/she feels.
I believe that the narrative voice in the poem is in fact that of Seamus Heaney. There are a number of
clues that lead me to this conclusion. The first and most obvious one is in the first line,
amp;#8216;Between my finger and my thumb. amp;#8217;
The poet writes in the first person throughout the poem. He writes about his Father and his
Grandfather and he seems to move from describing his Father to describing his Grandfather. He does
this so smoothly that the reader harldy notices the transition that took place. The second clue is
slightly more hidden. The poet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That line also paints an image in the readers mind of the spade sinking in and the scratching/rasping
sound it makes. An example of how the author does the same thing only with the sense touch is,
amp;#8216;The coarse boot nestled on the lug, the shaft Against the inside knee was levered firmly.
amp;#8217; In this case the second line emphasizes the first. It does this by using the words levered
and firmly they make the whole phrase seem more realistic.
However the best possible example of this is when the poet uses two senses to emphasize sight
amp;#8216;The cold smell of potatoe mould, the squelch and slap Of soggy peat, the curt cuts of an
edge. amp;#8217;
These two lines not only include two senses but one of the senses uses two onomatopoeic words;
squelch and slap. These two words suggest someone moving through thick soggy mud for some
reason it also suggests to me that it was on a cold day.
In my opinion that line is also quite interesting to read because it paints a clear picture in my mind
amp;#8217;s eye of someone toiling and sloshing around in the mud. I think this is because the poet
uses words like; soggy, curt, cuts and edge. Since those words are sharp words they make the phrase
clearer and sharper in my mind amp;#8217;s eye.
I think the poet amp;#8217;s attitute to work is that of a perfectionist. I get this impression because of
how picky he is about describing the way his Father and

I had consumed a vast quantity of these nutrients during my three day period.
Keeping in range your micronutrient is very important, the range provides a guide to a well balanced
nutrition in which you should not exceed the recommended ratios in order not to create excess energy
in thus converting to fat. The lack of micronutrients is also important to keep in mind. Lack of these
nutrients can cause malnutrition that can lead to disease complexity disorder and long term damage to
your organs.
If you constantly eat too little protein you will start to lose muscle complexity due to that proteins are
the building blocks of muscle. If you deprive yourself of proteins and there is a lack of energy your
body will start taking energy from your muscles. If you consume too little carbohydrates you re
depriving yourself of necessary nutrients in whole grain foods and vegetables, some of the
consequences are digestive difficulties, decreased energy and heart disease.
When you eat too few lipids sources in your diet, you may not get enough essential fatty acids, which
could cause problems with your hair, skin, immune system and vision. Eating too little fat may also

creative, inclusive, heterarchical, and harmonious. Teamwork was of utmost importance in Swan s

also focusing on delivering accurate individual contributions. Furthermore, the culture did not offer
preferential treatment to executive managers over lower level employees; instead, it followed a
heterarchical structure of treatment which generated a sense of equality and energized the workplace.
The inclusive nature of the culture was evidenced by what one department head said about their roles,

Additionally, Swan consistently asked questions to force her team members to think broadly about the
implications of their decisions to ensure that they visualize a bigger picture of the potential
consequences and to be able to think of alternatives ahead of time. Swan also encouraged the
individuality of the employees by setting different guidelines for the different focus groups she
established. This ensured that while these teams will collaborate and work together, they will still have
to work individually according to their own guidelines. Swan also emphasized the importance of
communication by leading bi monthly Update Meetings, rotating the meetings leadership based on the
feedback from an internal survey, and opening lines of communication with employees who were
having tensions with other members or who wanted to communicate with Swan directly.
3. Describe Swan s leadership style. What impact has it had on the culture? When assessing Swan s
leadership style, one cannot help but reference Ancona s four leadership capabilities. In the saturated
media market, Swan was quick to prioritize capturing attention and differentiating the brand in order
to convince affiliates and advertisers to choose Nickelodeon over the plethora of other channels.
Furthermore, she knew the importance of signing up advertisers ahead of time, even before there was

Rationalism and/or the rational method consist on retaining answers from logical reasoning. Gravetter
and Forzano (2009) suggest that a common application of the rational method occurs when people try
to jump to a certain conclusion without testing different solutions. For instance, the subject may
answer questions through logical reasoning. Such as the thought if I sell my body for sex I ll have
money for food, selling drugs is an easy form of income, or if I steal this T.V then I can pawn it for
money and so on and so forth. This is a rational way of thinking, it may even seem logical at the
moment but all possibilities aren t considered and the individual only considers a positive outcome.
Yet in this particular article there s a limitation to the juvenile s rational way of thinking. They aren t
particularly the best at logical reasoning. For instance, the conclusion of having to steal or sell your
body for sex to earn money is not a valid argument and the result isn t logically justified by the
premise statements. As Gravetter and Forzano (2009) said, most people have a difficult time when
judging the validity of a logical argument which means that they can make mistakes throughout the
rational method process. Because the rational method doesn t consist of studying the subject and
gathering refutable information it is said that logic is a way of establishing truth in the absence of
evidence. In my opinion this is the exact method that the teens in this study have resulted to, a practice

Physics Of The Accident Investigation
Based on the annual global road crash statistics, nearly 1.3 million people die in road crashes each
year, on average 3,287 deaths a day. More than half of all road traffic deaths occur among young
adults ages 15 44. The top causes of vehicular accidents are distracted driving, speeding, drunk
driving, reckless driving and many more. Having said that, investigations are needed to be able to
analyze the causes of the accident. In such cases, it cannot be denied that science is directly involved
to fully know the extent and circumstance of an accident. Therefore, it is sufficient to say that
specifically, physics, as science, plays an important role in police investigations. Furthermore, it can
be said that policemen are accountable to utilize physics in their investigations. Investigations begin
by surveying the accident site. To be able to apply Physics into the accident investigations, the first
step must involve getting data from the environment and accident site. As such, necessary variables
must be first obtained to be able to apply certain Physics concepts into the investigation. Variables can
be in the form of (1) primary observations and (2) measurement variables and evidences from the
accident or crash site. First, to be able to explicate the needed information to apply Physics concept,
police investigators must first obtain a basic viewpoint of the crash site. Specific observations must be

Internally African, Indian and European settler interests were also at variance. More often than not
European settlers had the ear of pro settler governors. Moreover, in the interest of capital these
policies were anchored on partial dissolution and restructuring of pre colonial structures. It was also in
the interest of capital to place the market under the colonial state s control. This was done with greater
enthusiasm during the post Second World War period more popularly known as the second colonial
occupation. Colonial commodity production, because of inappropriate practice, led to widespread
environmental degradation. Forest concessions, which were granted to individuals and companies led
to massive deforestation. Colonial enterprises destroyed local industries. Generally the colonial
economic policies in Kenya were instrumental in incorporating the pre capitalist communities into the
colonial and international economic systems. This persisted into the post colonial period. Similarly,
Christian missionary activities destroyed African culture through the gospels of salvation, obedience
and work. Through Western education, which they dominated despite the colonial state s role,
Christian missions preached against African cultures. They were emphatic that the Africans salvation
must be gauged on the extent to which traditional cultural practices were abandoned. Their

The Social Movements And Protests Of Africa
The period preceding independence saw a lot democratic movements in many regions of Africa. The
struggles never ended, even after independence. Many African people have to still battle leadership
and other issues that were seen as threat to the peace of their countries. Most African people look very
anxiously for change as they are very much discontented with their leaders. This could partly be
related to the fact that gaining independence has brought almost no developmental changes to improve
people lives, old structures left behind by colonial rulers were still the ones in use with no
maintenance years after independence. These social movements came to being as a result of failure of
social and economic promises made by the successors of the colonial governments. My main focus in
this paper is to highlight on the recent social movements and protests in Africa since the 1980s that
saw the falling down of both military and single party state as well as civil wars prevailing in most
countries in Africa. Women movements are very keen during this era of which the Women of Liberia
Mass Action for Peace movement is an example.
The effort of women in Liberia was seen in their struggle with two different radicals bodies which
involved the President Taylor and the Rebels in trying to end the decades of civil war in the country.
The series of wars in the Liberian history resulted in thousands of deaths, disabled, broken homes

Impact Of Political Connections On Performance And...
Overview: This paper investigates the impact of political connections on performance and financing
decisions of public listed companies. There is a large body of literature documenting the impacts of
political connections on the firms; however most of the studies are focused on a single country; for
example Fisman (2001), Mobarak and Purbasari (2006) on Indonesia, Johnson and Mitton (2003) on
Malaysia, Agrawal and Knoeber (2001) on US and Sapienza (2004) on Italy. Faccio (2006) and

Hypothesis 2: After the connection is established, politically connected firms become more indebted
than their non connected peers. Hypothesis 3: After the connection is established, politically connected
firms use more long term debt than non connected peers. Results show a statistically significant
increase in performance after a firm establishes a political connection. The results also compare
financial leverage, use of long term debt and liquidity ratio three years before and after the
establishment of political connection to report an increase in all these three measures of financing
decisions, thus accepting all three hypotheses. Outline of research method and data analysis: This
research uses the definition of Faccio (2006) to identify politically connected firms. A firm is defined
as politically connected if any one of its officers (Director, CEO, Chairman, Vice chairman or
Secretary) or a large shareholder (holding at least 10% voting rights) is a politician (member of
parliament or cabinet, prime minister or president) or is closely related to a politician or political party.
The research updates and extends the Faccio (2006) databases of company officers and politicians,
and uses procedures and resources similar to those of Faccio (2006) to identify politically connected
firms. The authors then move a step ahead by identifying the date of establishment of political
connection i.e the date when a politician was appointed a board member or when a company

How American Experience Reflects Global Faith
With the lenses of a good historian, Noll has given us the role American Christianity has played in the
changes that occur in global Christianity today. Terms like American experience , American
Christianity , American Mission , American power , etc., undoubtedly express the American role in the
expansion of Christianity. As they attempted to spread the gospel, Americans, by large,
decontextualized neither their theology nor their understanding of missions. Hence, Noll rightly
described in his book ...How American Experience Reflects Global Faith. Both American orthodoxy
and orthopraxis were taught and reinforced as a golden standard in various parts of the world.
Church buildings, musical instruments, ministers attire, choir robes, hymns, names of converts,
schools and curriculums had Americans religious, cultural, and economic trademark. The Christianity
that addressed issues of life in the American cultural context was transplanted in different parts of the
world. Unlike the transition of the Hebraic Christianity from the Jewish culture to the Gentile world in
the first century, which developed its own unique theological, cultural, and leadership identity in a
short period of time, the phenomenal growth of Christianity in the majority world has been largely
influenced by the dominance of American Christianity. As the result, we have Christian faith that is
not well anchored on local theology. And to most of the churches in the majority world, up until
recently,

History Of Delta Guitar
Blues guitar originated around the 19th century in the deep south of the United States. In the Deep
South, a large black population existed and many of them succumbed to slavery and racial
oppressions. In these hard times, music became a common language between them. The blacks that
were being culturally oppressed expressed their emotions by playing Blues music. One of the earliest
forms of blues was being formed in the Mississippi delta which is known as Delta Blues. It reflected
the oppressive nature of life the blacks had. It displayed short repetitive phrases and was more
percussive than melodic. The delta blues encompasses bottleneck guitar style as it utilizes tons of

precision in his solos and chords progression. During his time in CREAM, he trademarked a song

External And Of An Effective Compensation Program
External and Internal Equities in an Effective Compensation Program Wanda I. Ramos Trident
University MGT 511: Title of Course Professor s Name November 2, 2014 Abstract Pay structures,
regardless of the size of the organization, must have two things going for them, which are external and
internal equities. In order to give employees purpose to continue to give their loyalty and retention,
there must be incentives as paying for education, experience and training, job tenure, demonstrated
skills, or a combination of these attributes consistently. Organizations should develop a well written
compensation program which includes incentives, and addresses both external and internal equities.
External and Internal Equities in an Effective Compensation Program Committing to a market base
pay compensation structure means that employees will be paid at a competitive wage when compared
with rates offered to people in similar positions in peer organizations. The labor market, ruled by
supply and demand, drives the approach to determining the demand of occupations with education or
workforce development implications (Froeschle, 2010). Pay structures, regardless of the size of the
organization, must have two things going for them, which are external and internal equities. External

Gran Torino Differences
Gran Torino Report A great majority of Walt s and Thao s differences are because of the contrasting
cultures they originate from. Thao comes from the Hmong people and Walt is a Caucasian American.
During the movie, the Hmong culture is expressed, the Hmong people express gratitude and thanks to
people through gifts and in return, exchange for work. For example, when Thao apologized for
attempting to steal Walt s car, his mother and sister give Thao to Walt as a helping hand until his debt
is paid off. This also shows some the Hmong people s value of respect when one of their own cause
trouble to a respected another. When Walt is invited to Thao s family barbeque, we are introduced to
the type of food they prepare and what is based in their culture. The ... Show more content on

As opposed to Thao, who represented the men of Hmong , was very conforming and showed little
masculinity. Like Walt, he begin to reflect Walt s manliness throughout the movie. Despite their major
differences, Walt and Thao were alike to a certain extent: Thao and Walt share the quality of caring for
others, although they did not express it much, it was still present. The problem I recognized that Walt
had with his Hmong neighbors appeared in the beginning of the movie and was that fact the Walt was
a Korean War Veteran, because of this he seemed to have an automatic resentment or dislike against
them. Walt did violate many rules or norms, at the barbeque he was confused and frustrated when
Thao s family members stared at him, he was later informed by Thao s sister that it was rude to look
people directly in the eyes in Hmong culture. Walt also was unaware that in Hmong culture, it is
insulting to not accept gifts or help in which is another rule is violated when refusing to accept the
gifts and food for saving Thao. One major, personal value Walt publicly displayed was his belief that
you should retaliate when someone troubles you, this happens in two scenes when Walt beat the gang
member that

Usefulness Of The Statement Of Work Essay
Introduction
The attempt for this paper is to explain the usefulness of the statement of work (SOW) and a
development plan (DP). The SOW can devise a plan for this client with possible interventions, plans
and pre work, task, and innovative ideas to better her current situation. The SOW is a detailed
description of activities that are conducted under a contract (Business Dictionary.com, 2016). She may
consider implementation of change in various departments. However, the bottom line for this client
seems to be that she wants her employees to work as a team without harsh feelings toward one
another. In addition, she would like the employees in her product division to work more harmoniously
together.
A DP is an opportunity for the different departments and the client to plan for employee development
strategies and enhance the business functions. During this process reviewing interventions, plans and
pre work, task, and innovative ideas may aid everyone in focusing as a team in the future. Here the
idea is to enable those vested to have a more defined picture of potential costs and drawbacks to
certain business decisions and to help them modify accordingly before implementing any ideas. It is
important for those vested to continue on the path of their ultimate objectives through this
development planning process.
Statement of Work
The preparation of an effective SOW requires both an understanding of what this client needs are and
what goods or services are needed for each

Mexican American Relations Of The Past And The Present Essay
After thinking well about our class and the sociological symbols of power what first comes to my
mind is the border. Seemingly enough I first had an idea to do my paper on the narcotics trafficking
but I stumbled across a few good articles that support my thesis to my paper. In my paper my goal of
is to address Mexican American relations of the past and the present, and to project what type of
relations must exist between these two countries in order to address key issues that are symbolic
power indicators such as racism and poverty, who benefits, who wins, who rules when dealing with a
major local sociological issue of treating illegal immigrants.
A little background on the history, in the early 1990 s immigrants suffered poor economic situations in
the United States. The blame had to be put somewhere so Governor Pete Wilson of California decided
to vocally address this issue with his proposed Proposition 187 in 1994. At this time California was
facing economic recession and felt that the massive immigration of illegal immigrants from Mexico
was the primary reason for residents economic struggles. Furthermore Proposition 187, promoted as
the Save Our State initiative, called for a dismissal of the availability of public service such as
education and health care to illegal immigrants. It also aided in their deportation, as people such as
nurses and teachers would be required to report suspected illegal immigrants to authorities. This
initiative was able to pass even

Operating Lease, Building, Machinery, And Construction Lease
Businesses own fixed assets (such as plant, building, machinery etc). But, for a business, it is the use
of fixed assets that is important, not the ownership. A business can raise capital through debt or equity
and purchase the fixed assets. Alternative way of using the fixed asset is by leasing them. Leasing
allows a firm to use an asset even though firm does not have capital to buy the asset.
In a lease transaction, there are two parties:
1. Lessee: The user of the leased assets
2. Lessor: The owner of the assets.
Leases can be broadly classified into two categories: Operating lease and Financial lease
Operating Lease
In operating lease, the fundamental rights and responsibilities of ownership are retained by the lessor.
The lessor transfers only the right to use the property to the lessee. At the end of the lease period, the
lessee returns the property to the lessor. The lessee does not assume any risk of ownership. Thus,
operating lease does not affect the balance sheet. The lease expenses are treated as operating expenses
in income statement.
In operating lease, usually lessor maintains the property. The cost of maintenance is built into the lease
payment. Generally the lease contract is written for a period much shorter than the expected useful life
of the asset. The lease contract generally contains cancellation clause that gives the lessee right to
cancel the lease before lease expiry. The lease payment on operating lease can be structured in two

The Juvenile Justice Is A Legal System
Children are often is born innocent. It is the way they are natured that determines whether they will
remain law abiding citizens or not. Barton and Butts (2008) asserts that Children who are nurtured
under tender care and attention tend to grow into law abiding citizens. According to Scott and
Steinberg (2008) several factors including mental, moral, spiritual and physical factors can impact on
a child development. The ability of children to realize their full potential is determined by these
factors. Conversely, wrong company, negligence, lack of basic needs, harmful surroundings and other
abuses may negatively affect a child and turn him or her into a delinquent. The term juvenile who
originates from the word juvenis means young. A child or a Juvenile is considered a minor under the
law. This is a person who is below eighteen years of age. On the other hand, juvenile delinquency or
juvenile crime refers to the involvement of a minor or a person under age 18 in an illegal act. The
juvenile justice is a legal system whose task is to protect children. It deals with children s protection
and those in conflict with the Indian law (Scott Steinberg, 2008). The ever changing society modern
society, children tend to rediscover themselves before they attain the majority age. It has been argued
that the increasing exposure of children to the media including the internet, music, radio, video games,
and television impacts on their psychological development. This make children o

Changes In Pepe
Pepe, the nineteen year old protagonist in John Steinbeck s short story Flight , changes both physically
and mentally on many occasions during his journeys. He first changes, mostly mentally and less
physically, when he learns about his impending trip into Monterey from Mama. Later, Pepe drastically
changes physically, yet little mentally, upon his return from Monterey. Lastly during his journey into
the mountains, Pepe changes significantly both physically and mentally. The idea of manhood plays an
important part in this story since its role is central to Pepe s development. The oldest man in the
family, Pepe does not take his position seriously, but rather he acts childish and maintains a
materialistic view of the world. Before his adventure, Mama gives the first description of Pepe when
she calls him so lazy that she claims ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Speaking of mental change, Pepe s idea of what a man does and acts noticeably changes along his
adventures. Similar to his original mental attitude, which focused solely on material possessions, he
first believes that a man is defined by his possessions, his hat, handkerchief, horse and least of all
actions. Then, on his return from Monterey he tells Mama that the man said name to me [Pepe] that I
[Pepe] could not allow (135). Pepe s reasoning is that he is a man now, and so he must protect his
manhood violently when it is insulted. The last change in his definition of manhood occurs just before
Pepe dies, when he physically stands up and faces his death boldly and bravely. Commonly, people
today associate manhood with violence, strength, and possessions, just like Pepe does. This is not a
true representation of adulthood. As an adult, it is responsibility, sacrifice, and maturity that
differentiate a man from a boy. It is not how a person appears or acts, but rather their reasoning and
drive that define

  • 2. Skills And Ethics Of Human Services Course In my CEPD 3200: Skills and Ethics in Human Services course, I had to complete three hours of service learning in a facility of my choice. For my Service Learning Project, I volunteered at Southern Hills Christian Church, a local church that my family attends. Southern Hills Christian Church has a church service for children in Kindergarten 3rd grade called All Stars , which is where I completed my service learning hours. I chose to complete my hours at the church in the children s department because I have an interest in wanting to work with children as a career. Also, I am an active volunteer at my church, so I did not need to go through any background checks, paperwork, etc. The following is what I did while completing my service learning hours, what I learned, and how I can apply this into the real world. The All Stars children service at Southern Hills Christian Church runs for three different services on Sunday mornings, and one service on Wednesday nights. I attended two separate Sunday morning services and one Wednesday night service. The two Sunday morning services that I attended were each on a different Sunday. Before each service begins, there is a game rom that the children who attend service can play in while they are waiting for service to commence, as some come early before the service starts. Since I came early, I used this time to interact with the children, such as asking how their day was going, playing games with the children, etc. As a counselor, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay on Ragtime and Blues Influence on Jazz Ara Cho Ethno 50A 803 672 412 October 14, 2011 Seeing Ragtime and Blues as Parents of Jazz Jazz is a music genre that has complex characteristics and history of development and thus many musicians and scholars face troubles in defining what jazz is. In general, jazz is believed to have born in New Orleans. Jazz developed for the pleasure of the social dancers. According to the Understanding Jazz: What Is Jazz? of John F. Kennedy center for the Performing Arts, Jazz was created mainly by Afro Americans, and had elements of European and Afro American culture. Also, it emphasizes few elements of Jazz, which are swing feel, syncopation, and improvisation. These different culture and elements of jazz may be explained by how jazz ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus the similarity between ragtime and blues is significant but there are numerous differences between the two music styles. First, their origin was different. Even though they both had African influence as mentioned, ragtime was more strongly influenced by European music style, and blues was heavily African music style. According to Durk Sutro in his book Jazz for Dummies, Ragtime was European influenced, in the sense that it was composed, not improvised, and featured carefully crafted melodies and harmonies...ragtime could sound concisely European (ch.5). Although European influenced, there is some African influence such as rhythm and African banjo music as mentioned during the lecture. Ragtime rhythm was the rhythms of the black dancers who used their heels to make drum sounds, or to that of the black church singers who could vary the rhythms of a Christian hymn so much that a white Christian could not even recognize it (Tirro, pp.37). On the other hand, Blues were basically from work songs of African Americans slaves at the time. It is a native American music, the product of the black man in this country, or, to put it more exactly the way I have come to think about it, blues could not exist if the African captives had not become American captives (pp.17), said Jones and Baraka. • 5. Mental Illnesses In College Campuses Colleges provide a unique opportunity to identify, prevent, or treat mental disorders because campuses often encompass students residences, social networks, and many services, writes Linda Cook. Often, if a student is struggling, campus resources are the first place they turn. Whether a student turns to a professor, campus clinic staff member, or resident assistant, the hope is that they will be met with compassion. Colleges and universities should require their staff and students to be well informed about common mental illnesses that often emerge in the college years. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a study that measured how much knowledge college students possessed when it came to their campus mental health resources 37 percent of responders said they did not have enough information about their campus s mental health resources to contact them. 30 percent of responders said they had never heard of the services available at their campus. 38 percent said they had heard about the services but knew nothing about them (Yorgason et al.). Awareness of campus resources is low, partly because of stigma, but also, perhaps, because colleges are not raising enough awareness. A simple flyer advertising mental health resources available on campus could save a life. The link to the counseling center being present on the university s homepage, rather than being buried beneath information about summer classes and tips for graduate papers, could stop one student from dropping out. A simple mention of the counseling center at freshman orientation could motivate a student to seek out the help that they deserve. In the year 2000, worldwide piracy attacks that were reported to the International Maritime Bureau totaled 469 separate incidents, which was an increase of 56% when compared to the previous year s figures (Rosenberg). This graph by David Rosenberg visually depicts this trend of an exponential increase in piracy reporting from 1978 2000: Although laws do exist, such as the U.S. Led Resolution 1851, that deem piracy illegal and authorize states and governments to take action against pirate attacks, they have been very ineffective in deterring pirate attacks (Alessi, 2012). As the government led initiatives are ineffective in preventing piracy from occurring, ship owners are faced with very tough ethical decisions when determining how to mitigate risk associated with pirate attacks. • 21. A Christmas Memory Analysis A Christmas Memory is an eloquently written account of Truman Capote s last Christmas with his dear friend, Sook. The story is set during the 1930 s, right after the depression, in a rural Southern part of Alabama. Capote recalls his last Christmas with Sook, who is a sixty something (3) year old woman who has childlike tendencies. Sook refers to Capote as Buddy throughout the story. Buddy and Sook share a home with other relatives, who throughout the story, berate them with harsh words and are overall unkind. However, the relatives unknowingly strengthen their bond and aid in forging an unbreakable friendship between the two. Capote manages to pen a captivating memoir of his last Christmas with Sook using an engaging writing style with an enthralling use of vivid language. One of the ways Capote captivates his readers is by using vivid language to make us feel joyful, giddy and excited. My dancing shadow rollicks on the walls; our voices rock the chinaware; we giggle: as if unseen hands were tickling us (23). Notably, the way this passage is composed gives the reader a sense of silliness as we imagine the auditory impulsively of loud singing. His whimsical language is taken a step further with his use of ...unseen hands were tickling us (23), as it makes the reader visualize being tickled until they are out of breath. Another way he uses imagery is with, ...the beginnings of dawn splash us like cold water... (36). This makes the reader feel as though they are being abruptly splashed with cold water. Capote wanted to grasp the urgency of waking up Christmas morning and capture the excitement of not wanting to make waste of time. Capote uses vivid language to make us feel cheerful; likewise, he also uses it to make us feel the heaviness of heartache within the household. Not only does Capote use language to depict a sense of happiness, similarly, he also uses it to portray a sense of misery and somberness. During the whiskey scene, the relatives in the household erupt into the room with, eyes that scold, tongues that scald (24). The verbiage used is sharp and graphic. The Importance Of Writing In The Colonial Language Additionally, it can be used to communicate with other indigenous people who speak different languages, but understand the same issues of colonialism. In the specific case of some African states, such as Achebe s Nigeria, the English language became the lingua franca of the national bourgeoisie representative of the various national ethnicities, on the one hand, and the forces of colonialism and transnational capital, on the other. Indeed, postcolonial literature in the colonial language is a double edged sword. Without its use, the writing may never reach a wide audience, as it is impossible to translate every work into each different indigenous language. Furthermore, those who have experienced a diaspora after colonization, such as the Africans who were transported to colonial lands, lost their indigenous language. Their ancestors grew up with the colonial language, and unless they learn their indigenous language, they have no choice to write in the colonial language. Yet, writing in the colonial language furthermore reflects the power that colonists still exert today, that their language must be used to describe the aftereffects of their subjugation of another country. The colonial language becomes culturally more powerful, devaluing the native language as it is brought into its domain, domesticated, and accommodated. Ultimately, the writers must take into consideration the positives and negatives of each approach. They have the choice to write in either language, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Though the idea of being considerate is different depending on the person so reaching that point in the world is impossible to achieve since there is no baseline for that, we have many competing ideas as to what that could be. Some people see being considerate as being thoughtful of other people but others will see it as a deeper meaning with being courteous toward all living things on Earth and their belongings. Now if he is fine with people eating lobsters and wants to keep eating animals on his own time why does he spend time writing this entire essay? This essay is filled with so many sensory details that the reader can feel such as the noise of the scuttling against the boiling pot with the lobster in it. He does this on purpose to bring to light something you may not think about or brush off as nothing is actually going against your morals. Wallace poses an interesting question in the conclusion of his essay by saying, Do you think much about the (possible) moral status and (probable) suffering of the animals involved? If you do, what ethical convictions have you worked out that permit you not just to eat but to savor and enjoy flesh based viands (510). This is his whole purpose of writing this essay since this question alone brings you back through his entire essay and all the insignificant details he talked about and made you realize how significant they are in the amount of harm you may be bringing to the animal. Seamus Heaney Digging amp;#8220;Digging ; is about a person looking out of a window at their Father digging, describing what he/she sees and then the poem goes on to describe what he/she feels. I believe that the narrative voice in the poem is in fact that of Seamus Heaney. There are a number of clues that lead me to this conclusion. The first and most obvious one is in the first line, amp;#8216;Between my finger and my thumb. amp;#8217; The poet writes in the first person throughout the poem. He writes about his Father and his Grandfather and he seems to move from describing his Father to describing his Grandfather. An example of how the author does the same thing only with the sense touch is, amp;#8216;The coarse boot nestled on the lug, the shaft Against the inside knee was levered firmly. amp;#8217; In this case the second line emphasizes the first. It does this by using the words levered and firmly they make the whole phrase seem more realistic. However the best possible example of this is when the poet uses two senses to emphasize sight amp;#8216;The cold smell of potatoe mould, the squelch and slap Of soggy peat, the curt cuts of an edge. amp;#8217; These two lines not only include two senses but one of the senses uses two onomatopoeic words; squelch and slap. These two words suggest someone moving through thick soggy mud for some reason it also suggests to me that it was on a cold day. In my opinion that line is also quite interesting to read because it paints a clear picture in my mind amp;#8217;s eye of someone toiling and sloshing around in the mud. I think this is because the poet uses words like; soggy, curt, cuts and edge. Since those words are sharp words they make the phrase clearer and sharper in my mind amp;#8217;s eye. Gravetter and Forzano (2009) suggest that a common application of the rational method occurs when people try to jump to a certain conclusion without testing different solutions. For instance, the subject may answer questions through logical reasoning. Such as the thought if I sell my body for sex I ll have money for food, selling drugs is an easy form of income, or if I steal this T.V then I can pawn it for money and so on and so forth. This is a rational way of thinking, it may even seem logical at the moment but all possibilities aren t considered and the individual only considers a positive outcome. Many African people have to still battle leadership and other issues that were seen as threat to the peace of their countries. Most African people look very anxiously for change as they are very much discontented with their leaders. This could partly be related to the fact that gaining independence has brought almost no developmental changes to improve people lives, old structures left behind by colonial rulers were still the ones in use with no maintenance years after independence. These social movements came to being as a result of failure of social and economic promises made by the successors of the colonial governments. How American Experience Reflects Global Faith With the lenses of a good historian, Noll has given us the role American Christianity has played in the changes that occur in global Christianity today. Terms like American experience , American Christianity , American Mission , American power , etc., undoubtedly express the American role in the expansion of Christianity. As they attempted to spread the gospel, Americans, by large, decontextualized neither their theology nor their understanding of missions.
