What Type Of Pet Adopt First Time Owners
When deciding on what type of pet to adopt first time owners have plenty of choices, each one
presenting owners with their own unique set of pros and cons to consider along with personal
needs. For example, if training and frequent walks aren t ideal for the first time owners, then they
might want to explore options other than dogs, such as cats, reptiles, or fish. Due to lack of
research, some owners end up with the wrong type of animal for them, which can lead to increased
levels of stress and anxiety for not only the owners, but the pets as well.
For those who either already go on regular walks, or who are willing to implement a walk into
their daily routine, adopting a dog might be an option. Dogs are a great idea for those with a large
yard and plenty of room for the dogs to run around and play, who spend plenty of time at home
and can provide the dog with plenty of love and attention, and especially anyone suffering from
anxiety and/or depression. Studies have shown that simply petting a dog can lower a person s
heart rate and regulate their respiration, making them a beneficial companion for people with high
anxiety and stress levels. Dog owners also benefit from lower levels of depression than their non pet
owning counterparts. There are many breeds of dogs, each with its own personal characteristics to
consider. For those who are looking for a pet to intimidate intruders, but at the same time one who
loves to love and is a great family dog, then a pitbull might

Environmentalist: the Official Endorsers of Science and the Environment
I chose to analyze an online community that can sometimes be referred to with negative
connotation. As an environmentalist, criticism often stems from the idea that you are a tree hugger
or liberal when in reality your membership simply implies you care for the well being of the planet
and wish to sustain the earth for future generations. Environmentalist acknowledge that there are
issues with the ways society chooses to interact with their environment and believe it is crucial to
protect ecologically important lands, bodies of water and nature as a whole. As homo sapiens
reside exclusively on Earth, it might be easy to assume that everyone in this species would care ...

that they are helping to improve the earth so that future generations can enjoy the same benefits we
have today. Some people will join to help preservation for future generations and others because
they value nature. Overall, These people care about the earth and don t want anything in return
other than for other people to care about the earth and act on the many problems within the

The Operating System ( Os )
The operating system (OS) has two view points it provides services to:
1.User view
2.System view
User view: From user point of view operating system should be convenient and easy to use and
interact with. It should be better performance vice. Following are the two, some of important
services provided by the operating system that are designed for easy to use computer system.
a)Program Execution: The major purpose of the operating system is to allow the user to execute
programs easily. The operating system provides an environment where users can conveniently run
or execute programs and as well as able to end programs. Running programs involves memory
management (the allocation and de allocation memory), device management, processor ... Show

sensors, motion detectors etc.). Almost all programs require some sort of input and produces
output. This involves the use of I/O operations. The operating system hides the low level hardware
communication for I/O operations from the user. User only specifies device and the operation to
perform, and only see that I/O has been performed (i.e. choosing one of the printer in office for
printing service). For security and efficiency, user level programs cannot control I/O operations.
Therefore, the operating system must facilitate these services.
System view: From a system point of view operating system should allocate resources (use system
hardware) in a fair and efficient manner. This includes algorithms for CPUs scheduling and avoiding
deadlocks etc. Following are two services for system hardware.
a)Resource Allocation: Modern computers are capable of running multiple programs and can be
used by multiple users at the same time. Resources allocation/management is the dynamic
allocation and de allocation by the operating system of (hardware) including processors, memory
pages, and various types of bandwidth to the computation that compete for those resources.
Operating system kernel, in which all these functions, algorithms and services reside, is in charge
of taking care of resource allocation. The objective is to allocate resources so as to optimise
responsiveness subject to the finite resources available.

Cochlear Implantation
Cochlear Implantation is not as new of an idea as society may think. Interest in stimulating hearing
in deaf individuals can be traced back as far as the 18th century. Since then many scientists, doctors
and even audiologists from all areas of the world have worked to develop sophisticated high tech
implant systems. Which has resulted in varying viewpoints between the Deaf and Hearing
Communities.
In the 18th century Italian Physicist Alessando Volta developed the electrolytic cell. Volta
experimented with electric current, becoming the first to stimulate the auditory system electrically.
In which he attached two metal rods to a battery of approximately 50V and inserted one rod in each
ear. When the circuit was completed, he felt a sensation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A cochlear implant does not restore normal hearing, but can give a deaf person a useful
representation of sounds in the environment and in some help with understanding speech. The
Cochlear implant consists of external components that usually are behind the ear and internal
components that are surgically implanted under the skin these two parts work together to allow
the user to perceive sound. The external components include a microphone, a speech processor,
and a transmitter. The microphone is located at the top of the speech processor, which resembles a
behind the ear hearing aid. It picks up sounds from the environment and transmits them to the
speech processor. The speech processor can either look like the behind the ear hearing aid or be a
small box worn in a chest pocket. It is a computer that analyzes, digitizes, and arranges the sound
signals picked up by the microphone and sends them to the transmitter. The transmitter is a small
magnetic disc or circle coil worn on the head just behind the ear it receives signals from the speech
processor and convert them into electric coded signals, sending them to the receiver/ stimulator
implanted just under the skin using a special radio frequency. The internal components include the
receiver/ stimulator and the electrode array. The receiver/stimulator decodes the electrical signals
from the transmitter and sends a corresponding pattern of rapid, tiny electrical pulses to electrodes
on the electrode array that has been surgically inserted and winds through the cochlea. The electrical
pulses stimulate the fibers of the auditory nerve where the brain categorizes the sounds and assigns
meaning to them. The Cochlear Implant to

as well as some other writings that have not been identified as parallels to any biblical books.
Found in Qumran, located in the Judean Desert, these scrolls have been a controversial topic in an
archeological sense as well as in a religious aspect. Apparently, the scrollswere copied from other
scrolls and then stored in cavesnear the place that they are assumed to have been written. There s
been a lot of speculation as to the true origin of the scrolls, but common opinion has it that they
were copied at Qumran, a settlement near the site that they were found, and then were stored in
nearby caves surrounding the settlement.

Not to mention the beloved machine known as the Xerox that creates instant, photographed
duplicates of virtually anything on paper. Even when an author is writing a novel, they are

a machine that is capable of checking their spelling and grammar within a few seconds of the

such a huge role in our everyday life, it s so easy to forget that the human race still reigned this

today had to have been done long ago, without the comfort of technology as we now know it.
It s a safe bet to say that the chairs that we sit on during a normal day are by far more comfortable
than beds used by the princes of old. The tables from those ancient times were most likely not

and raw wood. How hard it must have been to get a tabletop to be flat, without bumps and without

The Power Of Pollution
Pollution is a very big issue. It is a problem that nations across the world struggle with. The
power of pollution is caused by technology, culture, and location and geography. It s a big
problem because if we don t change something now it s only going to get worse. Pollution is
harmful to us and wildlife. It is in the air we breath, the water we drink and even the soil we use
for our crops. Pollutioncauses environmental degradation, bad human health, and Global Warming.
If something doesn t change now, it s only going to get worse. Pollution is so powerful because of
the massive effect it has on the World.
Raji Hunjan and Jethro Pettit, in Power: A Guide for Facilitating Social Change, developed a
guide to help people know how to break down power and how it s used. One section breaks down
power into divisions, including sources of power and forms of power, to help us better understand
the forces that are at work in our lives.
Technology, location and geography, and culture power have a negative effect on pollution.
Technology is becoming such a powerful resource in our society. We use technology in everyday
life. Culture also has a powerful effect on pollution, depending on where you live and the
population. Different cultures handle pollution differently, some are very serious about recycling
and some are not. Also your location can affect pollution because more populated areas will make
pollution worse. The power of technology, culture and location have an effect on pollution.
Technology is a big reason why pollution is such a big problem. The United States relies on cars,
buses, planes and many more harmful transportations to get from place to place. Not only that,
when people didn t have bulldozers or chainsaws, it was much harder to cut down trees. It would
take longer was a harder tasks, therefore our trees are being cut down at a faster rate. In the article,
Technological Advancements and Their Effects on Humanity Karehka Ramey states, ...technology
advancement has made humans so lazy, technology users are so dependent on new advance tech
tools,,...it has affected the environment because of the increase pollution which has affected the

Article Summary of to Spin a Yarn Essay
We can begin to explore the lineage of women as tale tellers in a history that stretches from
Philomela and Scheherazade to the raconteurs of French veillees and salons, to English peasants,
governesses, and novelists, and to the German Spinnerinnen and the Brother s Grimm. (53 54) In
the chapter To Spin a Yarn: The Female Voice in Folklore and Fairy Tale
from Fairy Tales and
Society: Illusion and Paradigm, Karen E. Rowe explores the depth and history of voicelessness of
women and how the combination of spinning and tale telling was their way of speaking in a
society that would not let them. She takes the reader on a tale of a complex history that starts in
ancient history with the Greeks, goes to the French, the English, German and... Show more content

Spinning is an ancient practice, showing up in biblical writings, such as in Proverbs expressing
a spinner as a virtuous woman. She who spins is the model of the good woman and wife and
presumably in many cultures of the subservient woman who knows her duty that is to remain
silent and betray no secrets. (57) Philomela takes something that is so harmless and domestic
and uses it to speak and break the silence that has been enforced upon her, speaking in another
mode. This mode she is familiar with and has grown up doing. Ovid s account of what happened
to Philomela is without a doubt a retelling, taken from a woman s narrative through the medium of
weaving. This is also how fairy tales are regarded in later centuries, and Philomela became the
prototype for female storytellers in later traditions. We move on to Arabian Nights, in which
Scheherazade is the character of interest. Most people read this book as a tale of masculine
adventures, and tend not to notice who is behind the telling of these tales. Scheherazade is a hero in
the fact that she saves both virgins from slaughter and the King from his madness after he vows to
marry virgins and kill them the next morning. She keeps him entertained with stories, stopping her
tale midway through in the evening with a promise to finish it the next night. After a thousand and
one nights, he realizes that she is pure and tis changes his mind about women. In this story,
Scheherazade seems to represent the

How To Make Aladdin The Musical
Aladdin Review Many of the actors in Blackbird Academy s production of Aladdin the Musical
were introduced to a whole new world of acting while simultaneously singing and dancing. This
performance was a dazzling showcase of the poor Aladdin s quest to marry the beautiful Princess
Jasmine. The cute and comical characters displayed the conflicts between Aladdinand Jafar, as well
as those between Aladdin and her father s wishes for her marriage. The ages of the actors ranged
from age seven to seventeen, so this also came with obvious gaps in experience. The various ages
of the crew made for an entertaining show, even with the occasional messups. The costumes were
probably the best part of the whole performance. For an organization that does not always receive

It was centered in the auditorium of a church, but you would not be able to tell. The purple
lighting set the tone for an Arabian adventure, and the simple set was easy for the children to

microphones helped the characters look more natural without black lines covering up the faces.
The lighting was also used effectively in many parts. For example, the lights when down
momentarily when Aladdin jumped off the stage and ended up in a cave. I wondered how they
would display the genie s iconic introduction, and the creativity of the moment surprised me.
Aladdin rubbed the lamp as the lights went out, then a swirling image moved around in circles
across the screen until the genie herself popped out on stage. This made the moment much more
dramatic, similar to the scene with A Whole New World. During the magic carpet ride, the host of
narrators spread out sheets of lavender fabric and moved them up and down to create the illusion of
flying high over the ground. This added elegance and grace to the sweet moment between Aladdin

The Virtessity Of Benjamin Franklin s Values Of Morality
How should one act in their everyday lives to best maximize human efficiency? This question
spawned Benjamin Franklin s 13 virtues as he sought so live the rest of his days with poise and
proper manners. He wrote his 13 virtues for human improvement so that any person could follow
them and achieve maximum human efficiency. One of his virtues, frugality, is shown throughout
many different stories and is described by Benjamin Franklinas Make no expense but to do good to
others or yourself; i.e., wastenothing. This idea of frugality is necessary to hold yourself properly
when in the company of others and allows a person to act in a manner of moderation and kindness.
Many people throughout many different literary works have portrayed this quality including the
farmer in de Crevecoeur s Letters from an American Farmer , Mother Shipton in The Outskirts of
PokerFlat , and Lucinda Matlock In de Crevecoeur s Letters from an American Farmer a man
describes the vast differences he sees in the new world compared to his previous life in Europe.
He compares the two countries and begins to find the vast differences between them. Because
America is a relatively underdeveloped country many people must turn to agriculture in order to
produce enough food to survive. This necessity leads to frugality as any waste could lead to
severe starvation and death. Without frugality in a nation such as America and the occupation of
being a farmer, all excess food would be discarded and

Geography Of Iraq Research Paper
Geography
Iraq is a beautiful country with many sites and plants. It has many kinds of natural beauties such
as its wild oak, hawthorn and pine trees. Most of their trees are in the Zagros Mountains. Though
many parts of their forests have been reduced to little bushes of little growth but they are
working on reforestation. There are not many trees on ground level because of the little rainfall.
Winter is the rainy season while summer is the dry season. This is why crops in the winter are not
watered while crops in the summer are watered. The weather in winter is quite warm during the
day but comes close to freezing at night. The general climate is semi arid in the northern
mountains. Though there is not much water and its mainland is desert there are a number of
animals who have been able to adapt to this climate. Some animals who live in Iraq are the gazelle,
antelope, cheetah, pig, hare, and hyena. Most of a few sea animals are in the Euphrates and

Online Dating And Its Impact On The World
With the advancement of the Internet, we have seen many changes in the dating world. Hundreds
of applications and websites have been created in order to connect people locally and
internationally. Among these websites and applications are online dating tools. Online dating
began in 1995 when Match.com was created, and has grown significantly since. Millennials (the
generation born between the 1980 s and the mid 2000 s) were born into the digital revolution.
Growing up, we were more likely to text to ask for a date, rather than in person, or even over the
phone. Now that most Millennials are teenagers or older, datingapps have become the new norm.
With apps like OkCupid, Tinder, Grindr, and more, traditional dating values have gone out the door
to make room for online dating. The thing our parents knew as courting, rarely exists within the
Millennial generation. So, with all these knew dating tools, the question becomes: Has online
dating actually affected how Millennials date?
Literary Review In our research about online dating and the effect it has had on how Millennials
date, we found that there were some common ideas among writers. Because our topic is
relatively new, finding actual journals or research studies were hard. We decided to focus mostly
on articles written for big name websites like Forbes and Time. The first things we decided to look
at were the statistics of online dating. Online dating began in 1995 when Match.com was created.

Analysis Of Yiyun Li s A Thousand Years Of Good Prayers
Yiyun Li s A Thousand Years of Good Prayers has a recurring theme among its protagonists.
Several characters have not met certain emotional needs which leaves them searching for ways to
meet these needs wherever possible. Oftentimes, characters enter a one sided relationship and give
themselves completely to a person with nothing in return because it fulfills whatever needs the
character has. These relationships are most evident in Extra and A Thousand Years of Good Prayers
.
In Extra, Granny Lin s emotional deficit comes from her lack of relationships throughout her life.
Her whole life she was never married, never had any children, and cooped up in a factory all day.
After Granny lin was forced to retire, Auntie Wang arranged... Show more content on

The one sidedness of the relationship is physical as well. Granny Lin looks out for Kang by
supplying him with socks to save him embarrassment (Li 19).
The way Granny Lin describes her relationship with Kang also shows how she has been deprived
of romantic love her whole life. She wonders if this is the love she missed in her younger years,
hand and hand with a dear boy and in the closing lines of the story she calls her time with Kang her
brief love story (Li 18, 22).
While I concede that Granny Lin s relationship with Kang is problematic given the age
difference, I contend that, knowing what the reader knows about Granny Lin s lonely past, the
relationship takes on a new light. The life Granny Lin led prior to her factory retirement left her
emotionally starved and put her romantic and emotional desires in a state of dormancy. These
buried and dormant desires were awoken by Old Tang, the object around which her feelings
were able to manifest. After Tang s death, those feelings may have left Granny Lin feeling even
more empty because now she was aware of them but had nobody to love. Her relationship with
Kang arose because they were both the most vulnerable in the school. She was vulnerable due to
her emotional and romantic cavities, while Kang was vulnerable because of his familial issues.
Some might call Granny Lin s love for Kang predatory, but it comes

Sisterhood Is Complicaated Summary
Critical Analysis of Sisterhood is Complicated by Ruth Padawer In her essay, Sisterhood is
Complicated , Ruth Padawer illustrates complications and triumphs women and transgenders
experience while living in the same society. Padawer goes into detail about how the women feel
towards the transgenders and how the transgenders feel being in a college centered around women.
Often throughout the essay, she talks about how women make up Wellesley College who want to
have the greatest power and strength, by defying social norms and creating their own place to
learn. This has been the motto of the college since its beginning, but now, there are transgenders
who are entering the college as women, just to gain entry into this environment. Although it seems
as if there wouldn t be a huge problem with this, it does go against the mandates created by the
college. In this essay. Padawer explains these topics in a certain way,... Show more content on

Throughout the essay, she gives many examples that describe how women and transgender
students feel, however, too often they become repetitive. There are many stories that come from
personal accounts of students, but they tend to mix together. There are multiple examples that
take away from the essay by making it hard to follow. To fix this problem, Padawer could give
accounts from different people in the college, such as, how the President of the college feels or
even get some opinions from the alumnus of the college. By doing so, this would break up the
essay more and add varied types of examples. With that being said, it is also important for her to
include some data or statistics that help the reader understand this essay on a deeper level.
Statistics tend to help readers get a better understanding of how this issue affects people . By doing
these things, Padawer would be able to keep the reader s attention and keep the essay more

Literary Analysis Of Migraine By Twenty One Pilots
Migraine
Migraine, while it s usually known as gloriously painful headache, ask a teenager and they will
presumably say it s a hit song from the Ohio based synthpop, rap rock, indie rock, and yes even
reggae, band Twenty One Pilots. Underneath the techno beat and flying piano notes, are lyrics with
a profound meaning. The excellent lyricist, Tyler Joseph, in a spit fire fashion, confronts many
prevalent feelings and struggles. Within the song, Tyler Joseph defends himself from his brain, that
keeps sending him depressing, and pessimistic thoughts. This song uses many allegories
represented by literal images. Migraine by Twenty One Pilots is a unique song that puts a voice to
the battles of the mind; it has a riveting theme, complex figurative imagery, and an intriguing syntax.
Furthermore, the theme of this song is Tyler s migraine, although it seems like a simple concept
his migraine is due to his overworking head. In the song, Tyler sings (Line 12) let it be said what
this headache represents it s me defending in suspense ...(Line 12) that s best represented by my
depressing thoughts (line 16), and something you won t forget its all about my forehead (line 32
) it s a door that holds back contents (line 33). He also sings in the introduction of the song; Am I
the only one I know(Line 1) waging my wars behind my face and above my throat. (Line 2 )If you
know anything about anatomy you will know he is referring to his brain. The overarching theme of
this catchy song is the battles of the brain, which of course manifest itself as a migraine.
Schizophrenic pop is what some people may label this duo; it makes sense for this song. The
figurative imagery bounces around everywhere. There is a significant amount geographical
imagery within this song, there is also a gigantic amount of literal imagery as well. All in all, there
is a lot of imagery of all sorts. Here are a few examples; (line 28) Pardon my yelling and telling you
green gardens!(line 28) are not what s growing in my psyche! (line 29), and behind my eyelids are
islands of violence. (line 35) My mind s shipwrecked it s the only island my mind could find. (line

liberation of ireland Essay
Liberation of Ireland
The 1916 Easter Rising
The Easter Rebellion, was an armed uprising of Irish nationalists against the rule of Great Britain in
Ireland. The uprising occurred on Easter Monday, April 24, 1916, and centred mainly in Dublin.
The chief objectives were the attainment of political freedom and the establishment of an Irish
republic. Centuries of discontent, marked by numerous rebellions, preceded the uprising. The new
crisis began to develop in September 1914, following the outbreak of World War I, when the British
government suspended the recently enacted Home Rule Bill, which guaranteed a measure of
political autonomy to Ireland. Suspension of the bill stimulated the growth of the Citizen Army, an

Irish liberation from British rule was achieved as the result of a struggle extending over several
centuries and marked by numerous rebellions. Following the Easter Rebellion, an uprising of Irish

party in Ireland. This party, founded in 1905 by Arthur Griffith, a Dublin journalist, campaigned in

The Nature Of Knowledge, Reality, Existence, And Academic...
For centuries now, philosophers from countries all over the world have dedicated their lives to
the study of the nature of knowledge, reality, existence, and academic discipline. These studies
have taken them places within their field that question their own existence, the existence of
everyone and everything around them, and even what is right and wrong in the world they live
in. However, today s philosophy is somewhat different than it once was in the age of Aristotle,
Plato, and Descartes. One of the more current and controversial questions that has been pondered
by philosophers of the Twenty and Twenty First Centuries is whether or not it is possible for
artificial intelligence, such as phones, laptops, or Smart TV s, to function like a human brain

Research Article On Fires And Climate Change
Upon a search of the University of Idaho Library, I found a scholarly research article relating fires
to climate change. This article is highly technical in nature. Through the extensive analysis of data,
Liu, Goodrick and Heilman found that climate change and augmenting fire activity form a
malicious cycle. Warm temperatures enable fuel moistures to decline, allowing fires to explode.
Fires, more specifically large ones, emit enormous amounts of exhaust. They discovered that fire
emissions help to worsen climatechange. The main components of fire emissions are carbon dioxide
, organic carbon, and black carbon; carbon dioxide is the largest pollutant of the three, accounting
for about 71% on average. When released into the atmosphere,... Show more content on

This paper has a fair amount of ethos associated with it. It was conducted by a government
institution and was written by government scientists who specialized in this area. The article was
also published in a peer reviewed journal, Forest Ecology and Management. Additionally, the
information is valid and reliable. I have crosschecked the information with in this article with
other journal articles; all the information presented is true and supported with solid data.
Furthermore, the article was published in a peer reviewed journal, which means the data has
been reviewed by other professionals in that field of study. Finally, the article is fairly current; it
was published in March of 2013. The trends presented in the article are still occurring. However,
the fine data, CO2 levels, black carbon levels, etc, may be a little out of date. All in all, this is a
great source to explain the causes of increasing activity and the trends associated with fire. This
article was found using the University of Idaho search tool. I found this source as an effective
and easy way for finding credible sources, but it was much harder than any of the other sources to
find sources that related to your research topic. I originally searched for the Forest Service budget
crisis, but I was unable to find usable sources.

Kaplan University
The purpose of this paper is to use Harvard Business Managing Segments Customers marketing
simulation for Minnesota Micromotors, Inc. (MM), and develop a business to business marketing
B to B (business to business) competitive marketing strategy by analyzing target markets and
generic competitors. This exercise requires the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of
Minnesota Micromotors, Inc. , to develop a competitive marketing strategy for the company by
making operational decisions based on using game theory to understand the interdependence
between the firm and its competitors (Winer Dhar, 2011, p. 151). In addition, this paper will
analyze the results based upon the marketing strategy decisions, which determines success or failure
for a particular quarter. Moreover, this paper will also provide the Standard Industrial Classification
(SIC code) for Minnesota Micromotors, Inc. (MM), and identify the limitations of the game theory
approach to understanding competitive strategy.
2013 Quarter 1 Marketing Strategy The marketing strategy for quarter 1 of 2013 is the
development of a competitive strategy which rests heavily on the notions of a game theory
approach (Winer Dhar, 2011, p. 151). Game theory is a mathematical approach of structuring likely
competitor moves, anticipating them, and developing preemptive moves (Winer Dhar, 2011, p.

Pathological Gambling In The Uk
According to national surveys, 73% of British adults wagered on gambling activities (including
National Lottery) in 2010 [2]. In some instances, this behaviour can become problematic and is
characterised by persistent gambling that precedes gambling related harms [6]. Whilst personal
accounts of disordered gambling behaviour and harms related to specific gambling products have
garnered a large amount of media exposure and research interest in the UK, the provision and
understanding of treatment seeking behaviour has received less attention. Conservative estimates
indicate that approximately 1% of the UK population report gambling behaviour that warrants a

Hogwarts The most distinct setting of Harry Potter is Hogwarts. Hogwarts is a wondrous, magical
building with many towers and turrets. It is home to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
I find Hogwarts location, its castle, the grounds, and Quiddich fascinating. Hogwarts is built in a
forested area said to be in Scotland. The castle is located atop a cliff overlooking a lake. The lake
is south of the castle and the front entrance of the castle faces toward the west. There is a small
underground inlet, its entrance hidden by hanging ivy, that leads to a stony beach below the castle
at the base of the cliff. From there, a path leads up to the front door of the castle. A road runs

Quidditch is big at Hogwarts. Each House fields a team, which includes the seven players and
often one or two reserve players as well. The teams have a team captain who not only plays but
also acts as coach. The captain leads practices, devises strategies, and sees to the induction of
new players into the team. Quidditch tryouts are typically during the second week of the school
year, although the exact day and time are up to the captain to determine; students who wish to
play for their Houses are asked to talk to Madam Hooch. The Quidditch season at Hogwarts starts
in October, with the first games early in November. Madam Hooch is the resident Quidditch
expert. The Bludgers, Quaffles, and Snitch are stored securely in her office between games and
she acts as referee for the matches. Team practices are scheduled by individual captains. Most
teams practice almost every day, after school or in the evenings.

The Education System And Public Education
The whole people must take upon themselves the education of the whole people and be willing to
bear the expenses of it. There should not be a district of one mile square, without a school in it, not
founded by a charitable individual, but maintained at the public expense of the people themselves
(Strauss). Our founding fathers wanted our nation to be an educated nation. There were many who
believed that only a chosen should be educated, but there were those who saw educationto be more
pervasive. During the 1800s Horace Mann revolutionized the ideas with public education;
however, today we now face an education system lacking in religious classes, group projects, and
outside stimulation. In 1848 Horace Mann focused on the preservation of humankind, both
physically and mentally, through physical and religious education. As proposed in the report
Horace Mann explains that it is the duty of all the governing minds in society to diffuse the
knowledge of these beautiful and beneficent laws of health and life through the length and
breadth of the State... by providing public baths, public walks, and public squares... a religious
observance of all those sanitary regulations with which modern science has blesses the world.
People were dying prematurely due to their lack of education on modern sciences. With these
provisions added, Horace Mann presents a society most beneficial to the well being of the
population. With increased knowledge exercise and hygiene people would be

Pros And Cons Of Populism
In 2004, Cas Mudde of University of Georgia referred to populism as a
... thin ideology that merely sets up a framework of pure people versus a corrupt elite.
Populists aim to unite the people against perceived corrupt dominant elite . Generally, populists
define themselves as people who are not afraid, to tell the truth. They feel free to criticize
everything, from Wall Street to Oval Office. There are mainly two types of populism: exclusive and
inclusive. The former one aims to deport refugees in Europe, fueled by racism and security fears.
The latter opens up to stigmatized groups, as Time puts it, the poor.
The world order seems to change with populism on the rise in Europe and US. There is an ongoing
disenchantment with mainstream parties and voters tend to shift towards right wing parties.

The beautiful woman with magic powers and lively songs that are recognizably Cinderella, was
never included in the original tale. Cinderella plants a tree by her mother s grave and prays
under it every day (Triska). When the time comes for the festival, which last three nights,
Cinderella finds her dresses under this tree (Grimm, 83, 84). The splendid glass slippers that are

written by the Grimm Brothers. Before the festival the birds [in the tree] threw...slippers

her Cut the toe off; when you are Queen you will have no more need to go on foot. (Grimm, 85).

How Does Lee Show Optimism In Maycomb In The 1930 s
Harper Lee s To Kill A Mockingbird is set in Maycomb, a fictional town in Alabama, in the 1930 s.

on life, but it s outcome is the opposite. The novel shows great optimism and hope for the future

suicide in the second leading cause of death for those ages ten to twenty four and around 3,470
people grades ninth to twelfth attempt suicide each day in the United States (Youth Suicide
Statistics 1). The reason for these people wanting to take their life is unknown, however, divorce of
parents, formation of a new family, or moving to a new community, are common reasons for suicide
. On the other hand, those who battle depression or develop depression increase the risk of a
suicide attempt. People may think that everything is going wrong and dying is the only solution;
but people will always be willing to help. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem
and nothing is worth taking your own life over.
In Willa Cather s short story Paul s Case , the main character, Paul, is clearly unhappy with his
own life as well as his home life. Paul lost his mother and has an unstable relationship with his
father. He dreads going home, as Cather explains: ...the hopeless feeling of sinking back forever
into ugliness and commonness that he had always had when he came home (Cather 108). This
quote expresses the hatred and disgust that Paul has towards his home and he will do anything
to avoid coming home. This book is very relatable and realistic because similar to Paul, many
teenagers dislike their home life and would much rather be away from their own family.
Distancing yourself from loved ones, family, friends, teachers, coaches, or whoever it may be, can
be an early sign of depression (Suicide in Children and Teens 1). Paul may or may not suffer from
depression, but either way, his death could have easily been prevented if Paul had a more positive
outlook on life.

Dramatic Irony In Shrek
Salvador Dali once stated to, Have no fear of perfection you ll never reach it. Although a
widespread concept, unattainable perfection seems unrealistic. For instance, society today
inscribes the notion of perfection into its members, from the first days as a newborn to the last
days of life. So, is it healthy to strive for perfection when it in fact doesn t exist? It is healthy for
society to distribute support for this unrealistic perfection? No. Therefore, to balance the unrealistic
goals of perfection set forth through certain branches of society, society has those individuals who
not only mock, but ridicule, through various forms of media, these unrealistic expectations of
perfection. One example of such mockery and ridicule includes... Show more content on

For example, in the beginning of the film, a significant scene in which Princess Fiona gets
rescued by Shrek, an ogre who masks his appearance with a helmet and disguise, is displayed.
Throughout this scene dramatic irony is evident because before Fiona knew Shrek s true identity
and outward appearance, she, guided by her misconceptions, believed that her disguised rescuer
was a typical Prince Charming. However, the audience was acutely aware that this was not the
case. Similar to aspects of our modern society, all her life, Fiona has grown up believing in the
generic happily ever after with the perfect Prince Charming and had never dared to think that other
alternatives exist. Therefore, through developing dramatic irony and using this specific technique
the satire effectively attains its goal when Fiona discovers the true identity of her Prince

understands the criticism towards society s great desire at perfection based off of fairy tales.
Overall, the film Shrek, provides an outstanding example of contemporary satire that is not only

I definitely agree with Simon when he talks about the creativity and ingenious of humans. The
innovations we have today in not just the world of food production are absolutely mind blowing.
The machines we use for farming and how we change plants at the genetic level to suit us are
some of the many examples. Granted those inventions can somewhat be debated they are still
great examples of human s ability to problem solve. The part I am less hesitant to agree with is
that there is no problem at all. I think eventually we will reach some sort of semi Malthusian
catastrophe. Will it may not be exactly about food I think it s more likely going to be an issue of
land. We only have so much space on this planet and I think it there is anything that could be

Shakespeare play Much Ado About Nothing is an early work of feminism because, it showed how
women were held to a different sexual standard than men, that women were being told that they had

The Distribution Of The Ornate Limpet
Biology report
Aim of this investigation
The aim of this investigation is to look at the distribution of the ornate limpet, (Cellana Ornata) and
the radiate limpet (Cellana Radians) on the rocky shore. We went to the rocky shore of Sirens
rocks between Island Bay and Owhiro Bay, on Wellington s South Coast. We are studying how our
chosen organisms affect each other s distribution patterns. We sampled in the low tidezone, mid
tide zone, and high tide zone. The rocky shore we explored was 80 metre long, rocky terrain, bare
rock platforms with rock gulley s.
Description of limpets
Limpets have conical shells. The limpets that are situated higher up on the shore tend to have taller
shells than those on the lower shore. The underside of the limpet has a muscular foot on which the
limpet moves around on.
Identification of organisms
Radiate limpets are identified by their flatter shells than the ornate limpet shells. Radiate limpets
can have 20 25 smooth low radial ribs. In the North Island the ribs are more indistinct and maybe
absent, the shell has radial streaks of brown and white. In the South Island the shells are dark grey
with fine radial lines. Ornate limpets are identified by their radiating black bands with a row of
white specks.
Biology of organisms
An ecological niche refers to an organism s way of life where it lives, its habitat, how it lives there
and its adaptions. The radiate limpet lives in the low tide zone of the rocky platforms whereas the

Descriptive Essay On A Car
The car ride wasn t that long, but it felt like forever. Once we got out of my familiar range of
York my mind drifted off the anticipation but it still stayed close behind. The music coming from
the car was blurred from my lack of attention to it. The sound of my dad s voice on another
business call coming from the front was also put to the side as all my attention was tentatively
directed to my phone. Scrolling through feeds and games the log eternity of the car ride drew
more intense. Though it was only an hour or two, boredom set in unusually fast. My mom sat
quietly in the passenger seat doing the same as I, mindlessly passing the time, ignoring the
anticipation. The distinguished right turn that my dad knew not to miss changed to cars gravity to
the left shifting everything with it. As we made our way closer to our destination the scenery
started to look more like Nebraska than the Mason Dixon Line.
The left turn onto the loud gravel driveway rumbled the car again as we pulled closer to the two
house like buildings. The feelings grew stronger, though I knew that it would be a while until the
moment came. My mom was definitely the most excited out of the three of us. She loved puppies.
As we stepped out of the car a pickup truck pulled in behind us. We were both parked by a small
building which I could see through the window was the info and paying register.

Walmart Swot Analysis
3.4 SWOT Walmart s supply chain management has proved to be very effective, which has led the
company to success. This case study analyzes the company s strengths and weaknesses, and factors
in what threats they face, as well as what opportunities that they can exploit. 3.4.1 Strengths
Walmart is a very powerful retail brand that represents affordability. Their number one strength is
their efficient supply chain network. They offer Everyday Low Prices and have a consistent level
of inventory. Walmart achieves this through their bargaining power with their suppliers. These
suppliers offer just in time delivery of merchandise to Walmart locations. These strengths help
maintain Walmart s market share and maintain customer loyalty.... Show more content on

Walmart needs to continually develop effective strategies to withstand the threats of substitutes
and new entrants. And, strategies that address the bargaining power of buyers and suppliers.
3.5.1 Competitive Rivalry The following external factors are the most significant for Walmart to
consider regarding competition: There is a large number of organization in the retail market with
a large variety of retail products and services they provide with high aggressiveness they saw the
efficiency of what Walmart is doing and they copied their supply chain strategy. Thus, Walmart
experiences the strong force of these external factors in competitive rivalry in the retail industry
environment. 3.5.2 Bargaining Power of Buyers Walmart faces a low bargaining power of buyer
because the large population of buyers are individuals that buys small purchases that makes it
difficult for them (buyers) to impose significant pressure on retail firms. So, in effect, the
bargaining power of buyers is weak in influencing Walmart and other retail firms. 3.5.3 Bargaining
Power of Suppliers Walmart s suppliers bargaining power is low. Since they used the Vendor
Managed Inventory which meant their suppliers managed their own inventory at Walmart at the
price Walmart wants which helps secure the lowest prices from its suppliers to sustain its everyday
low price. Thus, the bargaining

Evil in Humanity in Lord of the Flies by William Golding
In the book Lord of the Flies by William Golding, a group of young boys from England are
evacuated out of their country due to a war. The plane is then shot down and results into a plane
crash on a deserted island. The boys are left all alone with no adults, no supplies, and no one to
come and rescue them. They are all on their own and have to establish a new society . The boys
have to choose someone to govern them and that person ends up being Ralph, who had an internal
struggle between what is right and wrong closer to the end of the novel. The boys turn into
savages, killing each other, and showing their evil inside each of them. According to, William

The imprudent control used by all the boys in the novel shows how there is inherently evil in all
of man, just shown by how the boys treat one another. William Golding believes that evil comes
from within you and is apart of you, but is suppressed by society. When the Beast or the Lord of
the Flies gets into Simon s head, it says, I am part of you (142). The evil from the beast is
speaking to Simon s heart and mind. Simon s conscience is speaking to and the evil is trying to
turn him into a sadistic aggressive boy just like Jack. It was not society who tried to turn Simon
evil, it was the beast who tried to get into Simon s mind to make him become a savage. Evil is
inside everyone yet it is through society, that evil is shown. Evil can also come from an
uncontrolled civilization, just like what the boys had on the island. The beast was harmless and
horrible; and the news must reach the others as soon as possible (147) here Simon is able to see
what the others could not see in the dark. He saw the truth of the Lord of the Flies, but he wants
to share all this information with the boys that the evil is inside of them. The other boys on the
other hand can not see through the dark, which causes Simon s tragic death. Henery, even being a
very young kid compared to the others seems to enjoy and excites him as well by controlling and
playing with living creatures and He poked about with a bit of stick . . . and tried to control the
motions of the scavengers. He

Twain Hyperbole
Twain begins the essay by quoting a few critics, who praise the works of Cooper, as Thomas
Lounsbury, Brander Matthews and Willkie Collins. Twain comments: It seems to me that it was
far from right for the Professor of English Literature in Yale, the Professor of English Literature
in Columbia, and Willkie Collins to deliver opinions on Cooper s literature without having read
some of it. It would have been much more decorous to keep silent and let persons talk who have
read Cooper . Twain hints at Brander Matthews ironically, when he tells us that Cooper s books
reveal an extraordinary fullness of invention . Twain accepts Brander Matthews s literary judgments
and applauds his lucid and graceful phrasings; but he offers to take that particular... Show more

The greatest example of hyperbole is seen at the end of the essay. Twain implements his final
experiments , saying that man is fatally stupid and simple minded. He put a diversity of animals
in a cage and in the long run, the animals got along, even became warmhearted toward each other.
Thereupon, Twain says that he put many men from all various religions in a cage and after two
days there was ...but a chaos of gory odds and ends of turbans and fezzes and plaids and bones
and flesh not a specimen left alive . This instance is as utmost as hyperbole gets. Twain indicates
the savagery of man in an example of an Earl who hunts buffalo for food and a snake that eats a
calf for food. He elucidates that the Earl kills 72 animals when only needing one for food while the
anaconda kills just one calf for food. Furthermore, Twain elucidates that when Humans keep
prisoners, the prisoners are dreadfully tantalized. Twain goes ahead to point numerous horrible
examples of ill treatment, torture throughout history. Twain also indicates how humans are the only
animals who subjugate and plunder his fellow human and completely destroys his own

Julius Caesar s Influence On Octavian

training. While in Apollonia, Octavius learned of the assassination of his great uncle, Julius Caesar.
Upon his return to Rome, he found out that Caesar s will made him, Caesar s adopted son and heir
to his political and personal fortune. Octavius was advised not to accept the inheritance because of
his youth and inexperience in Roman politics. Nonetheless, he accepted his inheritance. As a result
of his adoption and Roman custom protocol, Octavius name changed to Gaius Julius Caesar

Native American And English Colonists
Formal Paper English colonists first came to America late 1500s with the lost colony of Roanoke.
English settlers then tried again for a permanent settlement in the early 1600s with Jamestown.
Following Jamestown the English were consistently sending new colonists from England to
America. The first English settlers had faced quite the hardships. None of the colonists were
prepared or equipped with the knowledge to survive in their new environment. This is where Native
American and English colonists interactions began. Prior to English settlers, the Native Americans
had also had interactions with the Spanish. At first people believed that English colonists would
treat the Natives better than the Spanish colonists. But as history has shown,... Show more content

Despite the hospitality of the Powhatans, whatever they did not give the colonists, the colonists just
stole it. The Powhatans stopped offering their lending hand. The atrocities the English committed
against the Powhatans were comparable of those of the Spanish. One instance in 1610, a Powhatan
chief was convicted for being rude. An English officer and his men invaded the Native American
town, seized some of the natives, putt some fiftene or sixtene to the Sworde and cut off their heads.
Then he ordered his men to burn homes and crops. When the expedition returned to its boats, his
men complained that Percy had spared an Indian quene and her Children. Percy relented, and threw
the children overboard shoteinge owtt their Braynes in the water. His men insisted that he burn the
queen alive, but Percy less cruel, stabbed her to death. The English saw themselves superior and
considered the Native Americans as savages. A major reason the relationship between the Native
Americans and colonists deteriorated was because the total misunderstanding they had of one
another. The Europeans did not understand the social structure of Native American tribes. For
instance, the settlers believed that the chief had the same power as the king of England. This
caused confusion for the English because they believed the chiefs should

what they had seen it was found that Charlotte Cordaywas the one to kill him she was captured
right after guards figured out where she was. Today at high noon she is to be executed. I know for

The Fundamental Of Oral Communication Teacher Essay
Listening to my Fundamental of Oral Communication teacher, Jackie, made me see that college
life isn t for everyone. She also made me see that what she teaches is a very important part of our
lives no matter what the circumstances. She relates to her students on a personal level and tries to
make the environment in her class a comforting one. Interviewing her actually has made me see
her and the people around me a little differently because I now know who will succeed and who
won t
I started off the interview by asking what her most successful students look like. She told me, the
people that get there work completed and turned in on time are on the right track to being
successful. They show great communication skills towards her, are engaged learners, and perform
to their highest abilities. No matter if they work or not they can still be successful. I then asked
what her least successful students looked like. She confessed about how easy it is to spot people
that aren t going to be successful. They do things by checklist instead of actively engaging with the
class. She said, Learning is something students do and they don t seem to get that. Going on to my
next question, is it easy to spot your successful student, she answered saying how she can start to
see these people within the 3rd week of classes. There are times where it takes longer because
students are shy but she sees patterns in people. She even said Ones who will struggle, I see

The Film Fight Club By David Fincher
The film Fight Club, directed by David Fincher, can be used as an example of a postmodern film.
Edward Norton plays the lead, but Edward s Norton s character goes unnamed throughout the
entire film; being credited only as The Narrator. As the narrator and a main character, Norton s
character is aware that he is in the movie for the majority of the film, but also takes part in the
overall storyline. He does that by breaking the fourth wall and interacting with the audience. The
entire film is very fast paced and complex, with each scene getting right to the point. There are
numerous plots within Fight Club, aside from the actual fighting. The characters in Fight Club are
morally ambiguous. Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt) has no sense of moral compass. He is introduced as a
projectionist, who sneaks pornography into films. He is also a thief, who steals human fat from the
liposuction clinic to make soap with. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v= T1MckpC_Gc] He
shows no mercy when it comes to inflicting pain on others, telling The Narrator to stay with the
pain and smacking him upside the face while he chemically burns him. [https://www.youtube.com
/watch?v=zvtUrjfnSnA] Later on he is becomes the founder of Fight Club, where men get together
and punch each other until they are bloodied beyond recognition. [https://www.youtube.com

elevated into Project Mayhem, a club whose main goal is

An Intimate View Of Imagery Of Langston Hughes Dream...
An Intimate View of the Imagery in Langston Hughes Dream Deferred
America is built on a dream, the idea that anyone has the opportunity for prosperity, success, and
an upward social mobility when they work hard. This dream is a siren call to America s shores
for millions of people from across the world looking to forge a better life. Unfortunately, this
dream seems to elude Blacks in America. The elusiveness of this dream is not because Blacks do
not want to succeed or have the hunger to achieve their goals but because extraneous forces often
causes it to be out of reach and ultimately deferred. But What happens to a dream deferred? in
Langston Hughes seminal poem Dream Deferred the use of vivid imagery shows the regret,
sadness, and the danger of forgotten dreams. The beauty of a dream is unrivaled; a dream can
snatch 13 colonies from under the tyrannical thumb of a Queen or rouse millions of people to
descend on the National Mall to hear a reverend from Atlanta speak of equality. Dreams are
succulent like a grape but what happens when unattended? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun?
This image elicits regret, a once inviting fruit is now dried, withered, and less appealing. The sun
(outside influences) have taken away what made the grape beautiful and replaced that attractiveness
with a vison of what could have been. Though that raisin can still provide sustenance, just as a
janitor still provides for their family, the janitor s dream of becoming an artist

Lewis Carroll s On The Restriction Of Expression
Lewis Carroll s Commentary on the Restriction of Expression
Lewis Carroll is the pseudonym of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, who prefered to keep his identity
secret. Dodgson was born on the 27th of January, 1832 to Charles Dodgson and Frances Jane
Lutwidge in the small village of Daresbury, located in England (Smith, Karen). Carroll authored
tales of fiction geared towards children and works of nonfiction focused on the specifics and
complications of mathematics. Carroll began writing at a young age; one of his first poems, My
Fairy , spoke of a restrictive fairy who continuously censors Carroll s emotions (Smith, Karen). The
restriction of expression is a common theme throughout Carroll s works; his Alice Series and the
poem Jabberwocky ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The hunter kills the Jabberwock, and returns to his father to hear rejoice at his doing, the father
saying Come to my arms, my beamish boy! / O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay! (Carroll
Jabberwocky). One important thing to note is how the hunter is described as boy , a child, who
was sent to slay a terrifying and deadly beast. This represents how society expected upper and
middle class children in the Victorian era to act as adults did (Price, Paxton). Carroll ends the
poem with repetition of the first stanza, symbolizing the recurring cycle of Victorian children
being treated as small adults, who are prefered to be seen rather and heard. The wealthier children
of Victorian England were expected to behave as if they were adults. They were taught manners
and proper etiquette from an early age by their nanny, because their parents are often absent from
their lives. Adults constantly prodded them to be polite, and they were to be seen rather than heard
(Price, Paxton). Carroll creates a literal mirror world in Through the Looking Glass by writing the
adults, such as the Red and White Queens, as being childish, contrasting and ridiculing reality
where children were expected to be adults. Alice herself is apart of the upper class, something the
reader knows because of her nanny (Carrol 10 Looking Glass) and the way she has been taught to
restrict her feelings from showing is evident, as she says to herself Come,

Beethoven Biography Essay
Many questions go around about what day Ludwig Van Beethoven was born. Most do not know
and most likely will not ever know. They say that he was born a day or two before he was
baptized on December 17th, 1770. That was the beginning of one of the greatest musicians alive.
Ludwig had two younger brothers that had survived into adulthood. One was named Casper and
the other was named after their father Johann. His mother was a woman who stuck to her morals
and his father was a man who was a court singer, but he was more known for being an alcoholic
than a musician. This is one of the reasons Beethoven was closer with his mother rather than his
father. Also, Beethoven s grandfather was a well known musician which was a source of endless
pride ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His father, Johann, taught him how to play instruments day in and day out. When March 28th
1778 rolled around, Beethoven performed for the first time in front of a crowd in Cologne. At
that time Beethoven was seven and a half years old, but his father said he was six years old.
This always made Beethoven think he was younger than he actually was. Beethoven s father
could only teach him so much, though, so he went to go be taught by a professional musician
named Gottlob Neefe. Neefe noticed how talented Beethoven was, so he decided to not only
teach him about music but about the works of philosophers as well. As Beethoven grew, he
created pieces of music that became very popular. His first piece, published before the age of
twelve, was Nine Variations of C Minor. After that piece came out, his teacher wrote in a
magazine article about him saying he s to be, The next Mozart if he keeps his work up. Prince
Maximillian Franz, who was the prince of Austria at the time, knew about Beethoven s music and
decided to send him to Vienna to go meet Mozart in 1787 so he could further his music education.
When Beethoven and Mozart met, Mozart was said to have spoken, Do not forget his name! It
will be spoken often! . Sadly, whilst Beethoven was in Vienna, he received a letter saying that his
mother was dying. She was the only person Beethoven had a strong relationship with. She passed
away on July 17th,

  • 2. What Type Of Pet Adopt First Time Owners When deciding on what type of pet to adopt first time owners have plenty of choices, each one presenting owners with their own unique set of pros and cons to consider along with personal needs. For example, if training and frequent walks aren t ideal for the first time owners, then they might want to explore options other than dogs, such as cats, reptiles, or fish. Due to lack of research, some owners end up with the wrong type of animal for them, which can lead to increased levels of stress and anxiety for not only the owners, but the pets as well. For those who either already go on regular walks, or who are willing to implement a walk into their daily routine, adopting a dog might be an option. Dogs are a great idea for those with a large yard and plenty of room for the dogs to run around and play, who spend plenty of time at home and can provide the dog with plenty of love and attention, and especially anyone suffering from anxiety and/or depression. Studies have shown that simply petting a dog can lower a person s heart rate and regulate their respiration, making them a beneficial companion for people with high anxiety and stress levels. Dog owners also benefit from lower levels of depression than their non pet owning counterparts. There are many breeds of dogs, each with its own personal characteristics to consider. For those who are looking for a pet to intimidate intruders, but at the same time one who loves to love and is a great family dog, then a pitbull might ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It should be better performance vice. Following are the two, some of important services provided by the operating system that are designed for easy to use computer system. a)Program Execution: The major purpose of the operating system is to allow the user to execute programs easily. The operating system provides an environment where users can conveniently run or execute programs and as well as able to end programs. Almost all programs require some sort of input and produces output. This involves the use of I/O operations. The operating system hides the low level hardware communication for I/O operations from the user. User only specifies device and the operation to perform, and only see that I/O has been performed (i.e. choosing one of the printer in office for printing service). For security and efficiency, user level programs cannot control I/O operations. Therefore, the operating system must facilitate these services. System view: From a system point of view operating system should allocate resources (use system hardware) in a fair and efficient manner. This includes algorithms for CPUs scheduling and avoiding deadlocks etc. Following are two services for system hardware. a)Resource Allocation: Modern computers are capable of running multiple programs and can be used by multiple users at the same time. Resources allocation/management is the dynamic allocation and de allocation by the operating system of (hardware) including processors, memory pages, and various types of bandwidth to the computation that compete for those resources. Operating system kernel, in which all these functions, algorithms and services reside, is in charge of taking care of resource allocation. The objective is to allocate resources so as to optimise responsiveness subject to the finite resources available. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Cochlear Implantation Cochlear Implantation is not as new of an idea as society may think. Interest in stimulating hearing in deaf individuals can be traced back as far as the 18th century. Since then many scientists, doctors and even audiologists from all areas of the world have worked to develop sophisticated high tech implant systems. Which has resulted in varying viewpoints between the Deaf and Hearing Communities. In the 18th century Italian Physicist Alessando Volta developed the electrolytic cell. Volta experimented with electric current, becoming the first to stimulate the auditory system electrically. In which he attached two metal rods to a battery of approximately 50V and inserted one rod in each ear. When the circuit was completed, he felt a sensation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A cochlear implant does not restore normal hearing, but can give a deaf person a useful representation of sounds in the environment and in some help with understanding speech. The Cochlear implant consists of external components that usually are behind the ear and internal components that are surgically implanted under the skin these two parts work together to allow the user to perceive sound. The external components include a microphone, a speech processor, and a transmitter. The microphone is located at the top of the speech processor, which resembles a behind the ear hearing aid. It picks up sounds from the environment and transmits them to the speech processor. The speech processor can either look like the behind the ear hearing aid or be a small box worn in a chest pocket. It is a computer that analyzes, digitizes, and arranges the sound signals picked up by the microphone and sends them to the transmitter. The transmitter is a small magnetic disc or circle coil worn on the head just behind the ear it receives signals from the speech processor and convert them into electric coded signals, sending them to the receiver/ stimulator implanted just under the skin using a special radio frequency. The internal components include the receiver/ stimulator and the electrode array. The receiver/stimulator decodes the electrical signals from the transmitter and sends a corresponding pattern of rapid, tiny electrical pulses to electrodes on the electrode array that has been surgically inserted and winds through the cochlea. The electrical pulses stimulate the fibers of the auditory nerve where the brain categorizes the sounds and assigns meaning to them. The Cochlear Implant to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The Power Of Pollution Pollution is a very big issue. It is a problem that nations across the world struggle with. The power of pollution is caused by technology, culture, and location and geography. It s a big problem because if we don t change something now it s only going to get worse. Pollution is harmful to us and wildlife. It is in the air we breath, the water we drink and even the soil we use for our crops. Pollutioncauses environmental degradation, bad human health, and Global Warming. If something doesn t change now, it s only going to get worse. Pollution is so powerful because of the massive effect it has on the World. Raji Hunjan and Jethro Pettit, in Power: A Guide for Facilitating Social Change, developed a guide to help people know how to break down power and how it s used. One section breaks down power into divisions, including sources of power and forms of power, to help us better understand the forces that are at work in our lives. Technology, location and geography, and culture power have a negative effect on pollution. Technology is becoming such a powerful resource in our society. We use technology in everyday life. Culture also has a powerful effect on pollution, depending on where you live and the population. Different cultures handle pollution differently, some are very serious about recycling and some are not. Also your location can affect pollution because more populated areas will make pollution worse. The power of technology, culture and location have an effect on pollution. Technology is a big reason why pollution is such a big problem. The United States relies on cars, buses, planes and many more harmful transportations to get from place to place. Not only that, when people didn t have bulldozers or chainsaws, it was much harder to cut down trees. It would take longer was a harder tasks, therefore our trees are being cut down at a faster rate. Article Summary of to Spin a Yarn Essay We can begin to explore the lineage of women as tale tellers in a history that stretches from Philomela and Scheherazade to the raconteurs of French veillees and salons, to English peasants, governesses, and novelists, and to the German Spinnerinnen and the Brother s Grimm. (53 54) In the chapter To Spin a Yarn: The Female Voice in Folklore and Fairy Tale from Fairy Tales and Society: Illusion and Paradigm, Karen E. Rowe explores the depth and history of voicelessness of women and how the combination of spinning and tale telling was their way of speaking in a society that would not let them. She takes the reader on a tale of a complex history that starts in ancient history with the Greeks, goes to the French, the English, German and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Spinning is an ancient practice, showing up in biblical writings, such as in Proverbs expressing a spinner as a virtuous woman. She who spins is the model of the good woman and wife and presumably in many cultures of the subservient woman who knows her duty that is to remain silent and betray no secrets. (57) Philomela takes something that is so harmless and domestic and uses it to speak and break the silence that has been enforced upon her, speaking in another mode. This mode she is familiar with and has grown up doing. Ovid s account of what happened to Philomela is without a doubt a retelling, taken from a woman s narrative through the medium of weaving. This is also how fairy tales are regarded in later centuries, and Philomela became the prototype for female storytellers in later traditions. We move on to Arabian Nights, in which Scheherazade is the character of interest. Most people read this book as a tale of masculine adventures, and tend not to notice who is behind the telling of these tales. Scheherazade is a hero in the fact that she saves both virgins from slaughter and the King from his madness after he vows to marry virgins and kill them the next morning. She keeps him entertained with stories, stopping her tale midway through in the evening with a promise to finish it the next night. How To Make Aladdin The Musical Aladdin Review Many of the actors in Blackbird Academy s production of Aladdin the Musical were introduced to a whole new world of acting while simultaneously singing and dancing. This performance was a dazzling showcase of the poor Aladdin s quest to marry the beautiful Princess Jasmine. The cute and comical characters displayed the conflicts between Aladdinand Jafar, as well as those between Aladdin and her father s wishes for her marriage. The ages of the actors ranged from age seven to seventeen, so this also came with obvious gaps in experience. The various ages of the crew made for an entertaining show, even with the occasional messups. The costumes were probably the best part of the whole performance. The purple lighting set the tone for an Arabian adventure, and the simple set was easy for the children to move around. The headsets were high quality and the audio was spot on. Clear lines with small microphones helped the characters look more natural without black lines covering up the faces. The lighting was also used effectively in many parts. For example, the lights when down momentarily when Aladdin jumped off the stage and ended up in a cave. I wondered how they would display the genie s iconic introduction, and the creativity of the moment surprised me. Aladdin rubbed the lamp as the lights went out, then a swirling image moved around in circles across the screen until the genie herself popped out on stage. This made the moment much more dramatic, similar to the scene with A Whole New World. During the magic carpet ride, the host of narrators spread out sheets of lavender fabric and moved them up and down to create the illusion of flying high over the ground. • 12. The Virtessity Of Benjamin Franklin s Values Of Morality How should one act in their everyday lives to best maximize human efficiency? This question spawned Benjamin Franklin s 13 virtues as he sought so live the rest of his days with poise and proper manners. He wrote his 13 virtues for human improvement so that any person could follow them and achieve maximum human efficiency. One of his virtues, frugality, is shown throughout many different stories and is described by Benjamin Franklinas Make no expense but to do good to others or yourself; i.e., wastenothing. This idea of frugality is necessary to hold yourself properly when in the company of others and allows a person to act in a manner of moderation and kindness. Many people throughout many different literary works have portrayed this quality including the farmer in de Crevecoeur s Letters from an American Farmer , Mother Shipton in The Outskirts of PokerFlat , and Lucinda Matlock In de Crevecoeur s Letters from an American Farmer a man describes the vast differences he sees in the new world compared to his previous life in Europe. He compares the two countries and begins to find the vast differences between them. Because America is a relatively underdeveloped country many people must turn to agriculture in order to produce enough food to survive. This necessity leads to frugality as any waste could lead to severe starvation and death. Most of their trees are in the Zagros Mountains. Though many parts of their forests have been reduced to little bushes of little growth but they are working on reforestation. There are not many trees on ground level because of the little rainfall. Winter is the rainy season while summer is the dry season. • 14. Online Dating And Its Impact On The World With the advancement of the Internet, we have seen many changes in the dating world. Hundreds of applications and websites have been created in order to connect people locally and internationally. Among these websites and applications are online dating tools. Online dating began in 1995 when Match.com was created, and has grown significantly since. Millennials (the generation born between the 1980 s and the mid 2000 s) were born into the digital revolution. Growing up, we were more likely to text to ask for a date, rather than in person, or even over the phone. Now that most Millennials are teenagers or older, datingapps have become the new norm. With apps like OkCupid, Tinder, Grindr, and more, traditional dating values have gone out the door to make room for online dating. The thing our parents knew as courting, rarely exists within the Millennial generation. So, with all these knew dating tools, the question becomes: Has online dating actually affected how Millennials date? Literary Review In our research about online dating and the effect it has had on how Millennials date, we found that there were some common ideas among writers. Because our topic is relatively new, finding actual journals or research studies were hard. We decided to focus mostly on articles written for big name websites like Forbes and Time. The first things we decided to look at were the statistics of online dating. Online dating began in 1995 when Match.com was created. This is during a time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this essay I will be comparing Lass, a sheep dog, and her master s relationship, with our relationship with God. I will be discussing the values that Mr. Keller saw in Lass, and distractions that often influenced Lass. Through these trials their relationship became stronger. Godcan use you for something spectacular for His glory. Mr. Keller first looked at this dog that was chained to a pole. • 16. Analysis Of Yiyun Li s A Thousand Years Of Good Prayers Yiyun Li s A Thousand Years of Good Prayers has a recurring theme among its protagonists. Several characters have not met certain emotional needs which leaves them searching for ways to meet these needs wherever possible. Oftentimes, characters enter a one sided relationship and give themselves completely to a person with nothing in return because it fulfills whatever needs the character has. These relationships are most evident in Extra and A Thousand Years of Good Prayers . In Extra, Granny Lin s emotional deficit comes from her lack of relationships throughout her life. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The one sidedness of the relationship is physical as well. Granny Lin looks out for Kang by supplying him with socks to save him embarrassment (Li 19). The way Granny Lin describes her relationship with Kang also shows how she has been deprived of romantic love her whole life. She wonders if this is the love she missed in her younger years, hand and hand with a dear boy and in the closing lines of the story she calls her time with Kang her brief love story (Li 18, 22). While I concede that Granny Lin s relationship with Kang is problematic given the age difference, I contend that, knowing what the reader knows about Granny Lin s lonely past, the relationship takes on a new light. The life Granny Lin led prior to her factory retirement left her emotionally starved and put her romantic and emotional desires in a state of dormancy. These buried and dormant desires were awoken by Old Tang, the object around which her feelings were able to manifest. After Tang s death, those feelings may have left Granny Lin feeling even more empty because now she was aware of them but had nobody to love. Her relationship with Kang arose because they were both the most vulnerable in the school. Padawer goes into detail about how the women feel towards the transgenders and how the transgenders feel being in a college centered around women. Often throughout the essay, she talks about how women make up Wellesley College who want to have the greatest power and strength, by defying social norms and creating their own place to learn. This has been the motto of the college since its beginning, but now, there are transgenders who are entering the college as women, just to gain entry into this environment. Although it seems as if there wouldn t be a huge problem with this, it does go against the mandates created by the college. In this essay. Padawer explains these topics in a certain way,... To fix this problem, Padawer could give accounts from different people in the college, such as, how the President of the college feels or even get some opinions from the alumnus of the college. By doing so, this would break up the essay more and add varied types of examples. With that being said, it is also important for her to include some data or statistics that help the reader understand this essay on a deeper level. • 18. Literary Analysis Of Migraine By Twenty One Pilots Migraine Migraine, while it s usually known as gloriously painful headache, ask a teenager and they will presumably say it s a hit song from the Ohio based synthpop, rap rock, indie rock, and yes even reggae, band Twenty One Pilots. Underneath the techno beat and flying piano notes, are lyrics with a profound meaning. The excellent lyricist, Tyler Joseph, in a spit fire fashion, confronts many prevalent feelings and struggles. Within the song, Tyler Joseph defends himself from his brain, that keeps sending him depressing, and pessimistic thoughts. This song uses many allegories represented by literal images. Migraine by Twenty One Pilots is a unique song that puts a voice to the battles of the mind; it has a riveting theme, complex figurative imagery, and an intriguing syntax. Furthermore, the theme of this song is Tyler s migraine, although it seems like a simple concept his migraine is due to his overworking head. In the song, Tyler sings (Line 12) let it be said what this headache represents it s me defending in suspense ...(Line 12) that s best represented by my depressing thoughts (line 16), and something you won t forget its all about my forehead (line 32 ) it s a door that holds back contents (line 33). He also sings in the introduction of the song; Am I the only one I know(Line 1) waging my wars behind my face and above my throat. (Line 2 )If you know anything about anatomy you will know he is referring to his brain. The overarching theme of this catchy song is the battles of the brain, which of course manifest itself as a migraine. Schizophrenic pop is what some people may label this duo; it makes sense for this song. The figurative imagery bounces around everywhere. There is a significant amount geographical imagery within this song, there is also a gigantic amount of literal imagery as well. All in all, there is a lot of imagery of all sorts. Here are a few examples; (line 28) Pardon my yelling and telling you green gardens!(line 28) are not what s growing in my psyche! (line 29), and behind my eyelids are islands of violence. For centuries now, philosophers from countries all over the world have dedicated their lives to the study of the nature of knowledge, reality, existence, and academic discipline. These studies have taken them places within their field that question their own existence, the existence of everyone and everything around them, and even what is right and wrong in the world they live in. However, today s philosophy is somewhat different than it once was in the age of Aristotle, Plato, and Descartes. One of the more current and controversial questions that has been pondered by philosophers of the Twenty and Twenty First Centuries is whether or not it is possible for artificial intelligence, such as phones, laptops, or Smart TV s, to function like a human brain would. These days, we have the capability of signaling somebody halfway across the world or finding out any piece of information within seconds. Our treasured pieces of technology are kept near us at all times and it is a comfortable feeling knowing that we have them around, even when there s no interaction with them. We treat and care about our technology as if it were a friend. And despite the fact that technology often seems to have the ability to communicate back to us, they do not actually think like a human would. Although artificial intelligence is able to process information easily and quickly, it can not in fact properly interpret, therefore it will never measure up to a human s capability of processing. • 35. Suicide In Teen Suicide Suicide continues to be one of the main causes of death in teens throughout America. Statistically, suicide in the second leading cause of death for those ages ten to twenty four and around 3,470 people grades ninth to twelfth attempt suicide each day in the United States (Youth Suicide Statistics 1). The reason for these people wanting to take their life is unknown, however, divorce of parents, formation of a new family, or moving to a new community, are common reasons for suicide . On the other hand, those who battle depression or develop depression increase the risk of a suicide attempt. People may think that everything is going wrong and dying is the only solution; but people will always be willing to help. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem and nothing is worth taking your own life over. In Willa Cather s short story Paul s Case , the main character, Paul, is clearly unhappy with his own life as well as his home life. Paul lost his mother and has an unstable relationship with his father. He dreads going home, as Cather explains: ...the hopeless feeling of sinking back forever into ugliness and commonness that he had always had when he came home (Cather 108). This quote expresses the hatred and disgust that Paul has towards his home and he will do anything to avoid coming home. This book is very relatable and realistic because similar to Paul, many teenagers dislike their home life and would much rather be away from their own family. Distancing yourself from loved ones, family, friends, teachers, coaches, or whoever it may be, can be an early sign of depression (Suicide in Children and Teens 1). Paul may or may not suffer from depression, but either way, his death could have easily been prevented if Paul had a more positive outlook on life. While homelife has an enormous impact on someone s emotions, life outside of home may be even more important. According to Suicide in Children and teens, rebellious behavior such as constant lying may be a sign of suicidal person. • 36. Dramatic Irony In Shrek Salvador Dali once stated to, Have no fear of perfection you ll never reach it. Although a widespread concept, unattainable perfection seems unrealistic. For instance, society today inscribes the notion of perfection into its members, from the first days as a newborn to the last days of life. So, is it healthy to strive for perfection when it in fact doesn t exist? It is healthy for society to distribute support for this unrealistic perfection? No. Therefore, to balance the unrealistic goals of perfection set forth through certain branches of society, society has those individuals who not only mock, but ridicule, through various forms of media, these unrealistic expectations of perfection. For example, in the beginning of the film, a significant scene in which Princess Fiona gets rescued by Shrek, an ogre who masks his appearance with a helmet and disguise, is displayed. Throughout this scene dramatic irony is evident because before Fiona knew Shrek s true identity and outward appearance, she, guided by her misconceptions, believed that her disguised rescuer was a typical Prince Charming. However, the audience was acutely aware that this was not the case. Similar to aspects of our modern society, all her life, Fiona has grown up believing in the generic happily ever after with the perfect Prince Charming and had never dared to think that other alternatives exist. Therefore, through developing dramatic irony and using this specific technique the satire effectively attains its goal when Fiona discovers the true identity of her Prince Charming. Although Shrek had an unrealistic and improbable situation, the audience clearly understands the criticism towards society s great desire at perfection based off of fairy tales. Overall, the film Shrek, provides an outstanding example of contemporary satire that is not only indirect and horatian but also well known to society. I definitely agree with Simon when he talks about the creativity and ingenious of humans. The innovations we have today in not just the world of food production are absolutely mind blowing. The machines we use for farming and how we change plants at the genetic level to suit us are some of the many examples. Granted those inventions can somewhat be debated they are still great examples of human s ability to problem solve. The part I am less hesitant to agree with is that there is no problem at all. I think eventually we will reach some sort of semi Malthusian catastrophe. Will it may not be exactly about food I think it s more likely going to be an issue of land. The Shakespeare play Much Ado About Nothing is an early work of feminism because, it showed how women were held to a different sexual standard than men, that women were being told that they had to submit themselves to men, and that men wanted something perfect, when perfection doesn t exist. We went to the rocky shore of Sirens rocks between Island Bay and Owhiro Bay, on Wellington s South Coast. We are studying how our chosen organisms affect each other s distribution patterns. We sampled in the low tidezone, mid tide zone, and high tide zone. The rocky shore we explored was 80 metre long, rocky terrain, bare rock platforms with rock gulley s. Description of limpets Limpets have conical shells. The limpets that are situated higher up on the shore tend to have taller shells than those on the lower shore. The underside of the limpet has a muscular foot on which the limpet moves around on. Identification of organisms Radiate limpets are identified by their flatter shells than the ornate limpet shells. Radiate limpets can have 20 25 smooth low radial ribs. In the North Island the ribs are more indistinct and maybe absent, the shell has radial streaks of brown and white. In the South Island the shells are dark grey with fine radial lines. Ornate limpets are identified by their radiating black bands with a row of white specks. Biology of organisms An ecological niche refers to an organism s way of life where it lives, its habitat, how it lives there and its adaptions. An Intimate View of the Imagery in Langston Hughes Dream Deferred America is built on a dream, the idea that anyone has the opportunity for prosperity, success, and an upward social mobility when they work hard. This dream is a siren call to America s shores for millions of people from across the world looking to forge a better life. Unfortunately, this dream seems to elude Blacks in America. The elusiveness of this dream is not because Blacks do not want to succeed or have the hunger to achieve their goals but because extraneous forces often causes it to be out of reach and ultimately deferred. But What happens to a dream deferred? in Langston Hughes seminal poem Dream Deferred the use of vivid imagery shows the regret, sadness, and the danger of forgotten dreams. The beauty of a dream is unrivaled; a dream can snatch 13 colonies from under the tyrannical thumb of a Queen or rouse millions of people to descend on the National Mall to hear a reverend from Atlanta speak of equality. One important thing to note is how the hunter is described as boy , a child, who was sent to slay a terrifying and deadly beast. This represents how society expected upper and middle class children in the Victorian era to act as adults did (Price, Paxton). Carroll ends the poem with repetition of the first stanza, symbolizing the recurring cycle of Victorian children being treated as small adults, who are prefered to be seen rather and heard. The wealthier children of Victorian England were expected to behave as if they were adults. They were taught manners and proper etiquette from an early age by their nanny, because their parents are often absent from their lives. Adults constantly prodded them to be polite, and they were to be seen rather than heard (Price, Paxton). Carroll creates a literal mirror world in Through the Looking Glass by writing the adults, such as the Red and White Queens, as being childish, contrasting and ridiculing reality where children were expected to be adults.
