The Americans with Disability Act Essay
Usability is a critical portion of web design that one must be ever mindful of when constructing
websites. Whether creating a personal web space or building multiple pages for a large corporation, it
is the burden of the designer to guarantee people can access that content. According to the United
Nations, disabled people compose roughly 10 percent of the world s population (United Nations,
2010). Many regulations and standards have been set forth to provide disabled people with the same
opportunities to access content available on the World Wide Web, as it is most of the World s
population.
The presence of medical conditions, classified as disabilities by the Americans with Disabilities Act
as, ...a physical or mental impairment that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to comply, there are particular methods for ensuring that web sites are ADA compliant. When
considering visually impaired person one must use text colors that are easy to read with the right
combinations of colors as well as the right contrast adjustments. Additionally, color blindness must be
considered. There must be an alternative to images for individuals who cannot view them in their
browsers as well (for example, alt= text ). In addition, the use of screen reading capabilities must be
taken into account due to users that are visually impaired. For persons with hearing impairments,
audio content must have a text alternative provided, besides this, for users who use alternative speech
inputs, there should be a text equivalent. Web designers should also direct their attention to other
disabling conditions such as the need for alternative navigation elements for people with learning
disabilities or lower motor skills. There are also many tools available to web designers to ensure that
their sites are compliant with current ADA laws. In accordance with the ADA s mission statement, the
World Wide Consortium (W3) created the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI). In turn, the (WAI)
developed a set of guidelines (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines [WCAG]) with the intent of
providing remedies for design concerns that may arise when designing with the needs of disabled
people in mind. The WAI purpose is a means for developing standards,

Notes On Machine Learning And The Development Of Computer...
Chapter 2: INTRODUCTION TO MACHINE LEARNING
2.1 Definition
Learning like intelligence, covers a wide range of processes that it is challenging to define accurately.
Regarding machines, we might define, very broadly, that a machine learns whenever it changes its
structure, program, or data (based on its inputs or in response to external information) in such a
manner that its expected future performance improves [5]. Machine learning is a type of artificial
intelligence (AI) that equips computers with the ability to learn without being explicitly programmed.
Machine learning focuses on the development of computer programs that can teach themselves to
grow and change when exposed to new data.
The process of machine learning is analogous to data mining. Both systems explore through data to
look for patterns. However, machine learning uses that data to detect patterns in data and adjust
program actions accordingly. Currently, machine learning is more advanced from pattern recognition
to theory that computers can learn without being programmed to perform specific tasks.
The iterative aspect of machine learning is important because as models are exposed to new data, they
are able to independently adapt. They learn from previous computations to produce reliable,
repeatable decisions and results. [6]
Robot learning is a research field at the intersection of machine learning and robotics. It studies
techniques allowing a robot to acquire unique skills or adapt to its environment

A Short Fiction Protagonist In Phil Klay s Redeployment
In short fiction is important to have a complex protagonist character. Characters exist largely for the
purpose of moving the story along from one plot point to the next. The reader experiences the story
through the eyes of the protagonist. A good development of the main character makes a good story.
Based on Edgar Allan Poe s quantifications as what constitutes a short fiction story protagonist,
Sergeant Price, in Phil Klay s work, Redeployment is an excellent example of a short fiction
protagonist because he embodies the protagonist traits of being distrustful of the government, is an
outsider, and is a reluctant hero.
The first reason Sergeant Price is a good example of short fiction protagonist is because he is
distrustful of the government or at least is distrustful of those who are giving orders for he and the
other troops to perform. The true evidence of Sergeant Price being distrustful of the government is
seen when he says We shoot dogs. Not by accident . . . I am a dog person, so I thought about that a lot
(Klay 506). He is killing those dogs because he is following orders, but he does not see the purpose of
killing them. Sergeant Price further demonstrates his distrust of those ordering him when he explains
But here s the thing. I m thinking a lot, and I mean a lot, about these fucking dogs... And I m thinking
about my dog. Vicar (Klay 507). He shows that he does not agree with what he is doing. He just does
it because there are orders, but he regrets it.

The Importance Of Moving To American Culture
Even moving to a new house can be a little nerve racking. Will there be enough space? How will the
community be? These are all questions that can go through a person s mind when moving. Now think,
how about moving to a new country, with a new language, and having to bring kids. It would be a
much more intense experience, like the one of Michelle Pique. She moved from france to america in
1993, around the age of 40. She already had 3 kids, none of them knowing english. In france, her
husband, Joel, worked for a cheese company called Alouette. That was the whole reason they moved
to America in the first place.
Joel was getting a promotion that required all of his family to move to America. Prior to them moving,
they all took a trip

The Effect Of Organizational Culture And Leadership Style...
THE EFFECT OF ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE AND LEADERSHIP STYLE ON STAFF
COMMITMENT WITHIN SME S IN GHANA WITH JOB SATISFACTION AS A MEDIATOR.
CHAPTER ONE GENERAL INTRODUCTION 1.1 Introduction The outline of this chapter is as
follows: the background of this study is first explained; the justification for and relevance of this study
to SME s in Ghana follows; the underlying key concepts of the research conducted study are presented
as the research problems; the research objectives, research questions and the research limitations are
all elaborated on; and then, the structure of the thesis is outlined. 1.2 Background In recent years,
greater emphasis is placed on the human capital i.e. employees of an organization since it is this
people component of an organization that gives an organization its distinction from others and
enhances its competitive edge (Cohen, 2005; Holland Sheelan and de Cieri, 2007). The employees of
an organization are its driving force and according to Sempane, Rieger and Roodt (2002), the
organization can be competitive when the employees are committed to and involved in the
organization Commitment of employees to an organization cannot be overstated. Raju and Srivastava
(1994) see it as the key factor in an employee organization relationship. Both Saal and Knight (1987)
and Williams and Anderson (1991) agree that an employee who is committed to an organization will
exceed expectations of the job requirements, dedicate more of their time to

Creating A New Spanglish Media Culture Essay
According to the latest estimates from Experian Marketing Service, 63% of Hispanic adults own a
smartphone versus 60% of non Hispanics (Fetto, 2014). According to the PWC Consumer Intelligence
series, not only are Hispanics the fastest growing minority in the US, they also have the greatest
purchasing power of any US ethnic group. For mobile companies, Hispanics represent outstanding
growth opportunities (Bothun Lieberman, 2014). Mobile companies use commercials to advertise and
connect with the everyday customer. Knowing that Hispanic customers watch both Spanish and
English speaking channels they began to use Spanglish commercials as a way to communicate with
the Hispanic consumer. As the Hispanic wireless market grows, mobile companies use our Hispanic
cultural backgrounds and bicultural lives to sell and connect with customer. Creating a new Spanglish
media culture can mean larger numbers for wireless companies and global recognition for this non
dominant group.
Clearly, the economic power that Hispanics have in the wireless market is immense, and the efforts
from these companies to reach the Hispanic community have been shown in their Spanglish
commercials and advertising. The demand for services that are exclusive to these minorities has forced
media to be aware of bicultural communities. In recent years major wireless companies have joined
the movement. Verizon Wireless teamed up with Jennifer Lopez and launched a national wireless
retail store designed

Essay on The History and Development of Rock and Roll
History of Rock and Roll Loud, soothing, meaningful, and deep, rock music has many characteristics.
These characteristics are ones that rock music fans appreciate. But, many people have different
preferences of music, such as pop, rap, country, and other genres. Although there are several types of
music, most modern music comes back to the foundation of rock and roll. Many artists have been
influenced by the heart wrenching power of rock music. Most people that enjoy rock music do not
know how rock started. It is a genre that has evolved over the years. Rock and roll was built on the
foundation of jazz, blues, country, and folk music. The Les Paul electric guitar was also a big
contributor in music not just rock. One of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main artist to capitalize on combining country with blues and jazz was the king of rock and roll,
better known as Elvis Presley. He had the country twang along with the bluesy deep message and jazz
type feel, which started the music we all know today as rock and roll. The main innovation in rock
was the electric guitar. It brought a loud and free spirited feeling that came with rocking out. It
loosened up the music which brought many different styles and genres within rock. It broadened the
horizons to rock and roll letting people express themselves through their music. This rock craze
spilled overseas into Britain where many great artists were born. The British Invasion happened in the
mid 1960 s when bands moved from the United Kingdom to perform in America. The two main bands
coming out of this time period were the Rolling Stones and the Beatles. Both left lasting impressions
on American music. Led Zeppelin, The Who, and The Animals were also a part of this important time
period in rock and roll history. In this era most of America s top music charts all topped out with rock
and roll songs coming from Britain. Some notable songs are House of the Rising Sun, by The
Animals, Want to Hold Your Hand by The Beatles, and many others. Even though the British Invasion
took the United States by storm, it was just the beginning. Through rock history there were many

Emo Research Paper
What is emo?
Emo stands for emotional or emotional hardcore. It was a style of rock music that has developed since
the late 80 s. It expresses feelings and emotions, which other genres of music didn t at that time. It is
mainly teenagers who are involved in the emo subculture.
Emo music is often dramatic and sad, and you might wonder why. It s made for the teenagers and
being a teenager is a time to start discovering one s identity. Some teens use the emo music to explore
their emotions and discovering themselves.
Emo is a subculture with its own kind of attitude and fashion. The emos are known to be sensi tive,
emotional and shy.

The punk music was at that time about the community and politics. Some punk bands like Rites of
Spring in 1984 began to sing about more emotions like ro mance, nostalgia and depression. The new
subgenre of music got the name emotional hardcore, emocore, later shortened to emo. A lot of other
bands followed in their footsteps. Bands like the Swing Kids from southern California developed their
own more aggressive and chaotic version emocore, known as screamo.
Around the early 90 s, record labels began to see the possible success with emo music. With the
growing music scene, the music became trend.
In the late 90 s, record labels wanted to profit from the emo bands, but the bands usually broke up
before they got mainstream. In 1997, Jimmy Eat World who was an unsigned band, got discovered
and signed and was one of the first emo bands to go mainstream.
As the emo music became mainstream, other bands picked up some of the sounds from the early emo
bands and the emo sound changed. The new sound was softer, but it is what we know as emo today.
Bands like My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy and Panic! At The Disco are great examples of what
we see as emo today.

Blindspot Lab
Abstract:
This lab report will focus on answering the question Is the blindspot variable in humans? I use three
participants to conduct an experiment to test that theory. After the experiment I gathered all the data
and calculations for review. My results showed that the blindspot is variable in humans.
Introduction:
● I am trying to answer the question Is the blind spot variable in humans?
● We are able to see the world around us thanks to our eyes. First light enters the cornea which is the
outermost layer of the eye. The cornea bends the light and it travels through the pupil to the lens
which again bends and shapes the light as it moves to the retina. The retina contains thousands of light
sensing nerves (rods and cones). These cells ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Developmental psychology focuses on development during the course of one s life. How personalities
and behaviors change over the course of someone s life.
The sixth is clinical. Clinical psychology focuses on mental illness, disease and the overall mental

The seventh is individual differences/ personality. This field focuses on what personality means. The
uniqueness of each individual how no two people are the same. (Initiative, n.d)
This experiment would fall into the biological field of psychology as it focuses on the human eye.
Categorical variables are observations that can be sorted into categories like age or gender.
Quantitative variables are observations that can be measured like size or weight. In this experiment the
categorical variable was the age and gender of my participants. The quantitative value was the size of
the blindspot when measured. (Statistics, n.d.)
Independent variables are variables you can control. Like the dosage of a medication given during a
study. Dependant variables are variables you cannot control. Like the participants reaction to the
medication. In this experiment the independent variable was the blindspot test given to participants.
The dependant variable was the participant s individual blindspot size. (Helmenstine,

They re middle of the pack in other categories but this assessment is more of an eye test. Rose and
Melo have never been known as defensive players but they are trying. They have picked up their
intensity on the defensive end. Courtney Lee and Noah add some energy and decent defensive skills
that add to the overall team D which can be contagious. There have been stretches during games
where they feed off of each other s energy on the defensive end, which translates into positive
offensive positions. They are playing with a sense of urgency that I haven t seen in awhile.

Preliminary Bias And The Wason 2-4-6 Paradigm
In this experiment, we will investigate whether previous participation in a confirmation bias
experiment plus full knowledge of confirmation bias and the Wason 2 4 6 paradigm will lead to a
higher initial success rate with future testing. A confirmation bias usually occurs when participants are
trying to confirm their beliefs during an experiment. During these experiments, participants results
varied between confirmatory and disconfirmatory. The Tukey HSD that was performed for the
experiments showed some significance in certain areas. For instance, there was a statistical
significance for the total number of guesses between rule one and rule three. More simply, in the first
experiment the results showed participants used confirmatory method more for rule one than rule
three. For the second experiment participants had more knowledge about the experiment, so their use
of the confirmatory method decreased. However, in the second experiment participants used
disconfirmatory more for rule three than they did in rule one. Furthermore, all the experiments were
similar, because participants had to guess a rule based off a three number sequence. Additionally, there
was a significant interaction between all the rules. According to the results, rule one and three had a
statistical significance for the total number of guesses. More simply, participants in the first
experiment made less guesses than participants in the second experiment. Additionally, there was a

The growth of drum and bugle corps in America
Classic drum and bugle corps are musical ensembles that descended from military bugle and drum
units returning from the first World War and subsequent wars. Traditionally, drum and bugle corps
served as signaling units as early as before the American Civil War, with these signaling units having
descended in some fashion from ancient drum and fife corps. However, a modern drum and bugle
corps are a musical marching ensemble consisting of brass and percussion instruments, synthesizers,
and a color guard. Drum corps perform in parades, festivals, and other civic functions, but primarily
make appearances in competitions. Drum and bugle corps have ... Show more content on

These thirteen pioneer corps were unhappy with the strict immutable rules and regulations of the
American Legion and the VFW (veterans of foreign wars) who were the primary sponsors for the
corps and shows at the time. The Thirteen DCI member corps found new sponsors, hosts, and
appeared in a hand full of competitions which helped to grow their popularity and build an audience.
In August of
1972, the first annual DCI world championship competition was held at Warhawks Stadium on the
campus of University of Wisconsin Whitewater with 39 corps from 15 states and one
Canadian province in competition. DCI has since constructed their headquarters in Indianapolis
Indiana, where the annual world championships have been held at Lucas Oil Stadium since 2009 and
is charted to be the host of the competition through 2028. From the thirteen founding drum and bugle
corps which consisted of around ninety or fewer members per corps , DCI has grown to its now forty
six member corps with a limit of 150 members per corps and an age range from
13 to 22 years old. The DCI organization has grown their audience from the small last minute
audience at the first championship competition to the over 400,000 fans that attend live events last
year during the summer DCI tour, not to mention the fact that the championship finals were

The Rocket Boys Homer Hickam Jr. For my reading assignment, I chose The Rocket Boys by Homer
Hickam Jr. It is an autobiography written more like a fiction novel about a high school aged boy,
Homer, who lived in a coal mining town named Coalwood. His father ran the coal mine and wanted
his son to follow in his footsteps but Homer did not want to become a miner. He wanted to grow up to
be a rocket engineer. Homer and his father were never great friends and this built tension between
them all the way through Homer s high school years. This passion for rockets began while Homer was

Socially, Homer always seemed fine. He had a great group of friends the rocket boys throughout the
story. By the end of the book, his social circumstances were even better as Homer was regarded as
almost a small town hero in Coalwood after winning the science fairs. He still had a great group of
friends that he was with since before and during high school and the community liked him and his
friends a lot; this most evident after listening to the people watching the boys drive to their last launch:
Some people saw the rocket sticking out of the window, and shouts of encouragement rang out. The
rocket boys, hoo! We re proud of you boys! A OK, all systems go! . People from all over the county
respected the boys, especially Homer. Homer was in great shape at the end of the book physically,
emotionally, and socially, having stayed true to what he wanted to do, and sticking with his friends.
Personally, I like Homer. He tries to please everyone he knows with whatever he does. He seems
genuine and puts a lot of work into everything he does. One thing I noticed about Homer that is most
admirable is that he did not give up when he needed something. If he needed to get supplies for his
rockets, he would do whatever he could to get them. He would trade for supplies, do

professional standard of journalism and reporting that the public is highly aware of. Identifying and
analyzing media bias is an extremely complex task that not many people engage in. The public often
criticizes the news media for trying to advance certain viewpoints or being advocates of political
positions. In other words, many people wish the news media was less biased and more objective.

Perhaps the chosen topic didn t elicit itself to ideological stances as a topic regarding a 2016
presidential candidate would have. Regardless of ideological bias, certain news frames were present
that helped to categorize protesters as either overwhelmingly violent or peaceful. While each news
source mentioned the looting and violence that erupted directly after Gray s funeral on Monday, only
two sources focused on the peaceful protests that occurred on Tuesday. The curfew was interpreted as
a conflict and standoff by ABC7 News and CNN News, but also as an event with minor dissidence by
CBS This Morning and NBC News. The coverage of the Baltimore curfew varied in its sensationalism
of conflict and violence, but not ideologically. Why do so many Americans believe that their news
sources contain ideological bias? As mentioned in the explanation of President Obama s quote in the
analysis of the CNN News article, studies of hostile media effect have found that individuals who
have strong opinions about an issue or close ties to a social group (i.e., partisans) that is the focus of a
controversy will be highly unlikely to perceive any story about that issue or group as credible (Arpan
Peterson 311). While this was not the case with ideological bias in these four news sources, the

The Code of Chivalry Essay
The motto of chivalry is also the motto of wisdom to serve all, but love only one (Balzac 1). During
the Medieval Age, there once existed a moral system that introduced a set of conducts such as, virtues,
honor, and courtly love. This was known as the Code of Chivalry. These codes where available and
practiced in knight s daily life. The idea of chivalry is extremely valuable to the people, that even
everything a knight wore symbolized something valuable or unique. In other words, chivalry was no
game. Authors during the chivalric period were influenced by the concept of chivalry and romance
that the authors wrote about it in their work. During the Medieval Age and the Renaissance period

To have chivalric deeds a person had to commit to these set of codes. In the most basic terms, the code
of chivalry are guidelines for qualified knights. Knights were obliged once committed to follow the
code of chivalry without breaking any of the laws or rules (). There were severe consequences like
death for those knights who broke these code of chivalry ().
Not all men were assured to be knights. There were only two ways a man can become a knight. If a
knights had a son, then his son is assured to have a position to becoming a knight. Those who their
fathers were not knights had to prove there capability through bravery and courage. If they were
qualified then they were able to be a knight. For those boys who were born from a royal family since
they were more likely to become a knight they were sent off at the age of 8 to the local lord court to
become a page (). There they learned everything on the topic of knighthood, other things like the rules
of court, weapons, chivalry, writing, and music (). As the boy becomes older, around 13 years of age
he then would be a squire because he is starting to develop into their manhood. His training would
focus more on horsemanship, weapons, and mainly combat fundamentals (). As combat training
advanced for the boy, they focus much more on horse mounted combat where he learns to fight on
horses. This type of combat is more typical and essential aspect for a knight

Standardized Testing Argumentative Analysis
According to (Speilman, R) standardized test has been argued by many theorist that they are useful
and can measure a person s ability to perform. Therefore, strengths of having a standardized test
would service as a guide to determine how knowledgeable individuals are academically. For example,
Johnnie a first grader can read on a fourth grade level demonstrates higher intellect for his age.
Moreover, this example strengthen the argument that standardized test offers information for advance
students. (Speilman, R) Whereas, on the other hand standardized test has limitations due to

Civilization And Savagery
The theme of the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding is the conflict between the human
impulse towards savagery and the rules of civilization. Throughout the book, the conflict is aimed at
the main character Ralph and Jack, who both represented civilized young boys in the beginning of the
novel, but quickly developed into savages. Jack was the first of the young boys to experience savagery
by trying to overthrow Ralph as chief, and by brutally hunting pigs. While Jack and the hunters were
seeking food they came across a sow, Then Jack found the throat and hot blood spouted over his
hands. The sow collapsed under them and they were heavy and fulfilled upon her. ... He giggled and
flicked them while the boys laughed at his reeking palms. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ralph also focused greatly on keeping a signal fire going as one of the boys only hopes of getting off
the island. Jack is also interested in gaining power over the boys by offering them food, shelter, and
protection against the beast. Jack s desire for more power ruins the friendship between all the boys and
resembles in the creation of Jack and his group of savages. The more civilized group of the boys is
Ralph and Piggy, while they still focus on their main goal of surviving and getting off the island.
While the two separate groups argue, Piggy compares the savages to themselves, Which is better to be
a pack of painted Indians like you are or to be sensible like Ralph is? ... Which is better to have rules
and agree, or to hunt and kill? ... Which is better, law and rescue, or hunting and breaking things up?
(Golding 180). That quote shows Piggy talking the savages and comparing them to Ralph, as a
civilized human, and to them as a group of savages without any rules or order. Nearing the end of the
novel, the conch was broken and Piggy was murdered, nearly all of the boys had lost any sense of
civilization within them and they all became some sort of savage, even Ralph started to become a

The Characters Of The Solar Eclipse
The Twisted Eclipse By: Thomas Fox, Amelya Cook, Autumn Kelly, Ansley Hopper, Evan Dean
Exposition: The warm summer breeze brushed eagerly at Jimmy and Johnny as they left their house.
The solar eclipse was today, but they had already seen one, and they didn t expect much. They would
go to the park with Samantha, get some ice cream, and walk around. That was their daily routine. The
truth was, the twin brothers both had a crush on Samantha, but they were both scared to say something
about it. As they walked, their wavy blonde hair whisked to and from, but it didn t matter. Their
golden bronze skin gleamed in the magnificent sunlight. No one could tell them apart, except
Samantha. Johnny had shiny hazel eyes that glowed in the moonlight, and Jimmy had deep blue eyes.
Johnny finished texting Samantha and told Jimmy that she would meet them in the downtown area of
their hometown, Hopkinsville, Kentucky. They went to their usual meeting place under the bridge but
away from the water. When they saw Samantha, both their jaws dropped to the ground. She looked
stunning! Her purple sundress blended to perfection with her cream colored skin, her eyes shined like
diamonds, and her dirty blonde hair had the perfect amount of curls in it. They sat and talked, neither
twin could stop looking at her beautiful hair. What they didn t know, however, was that their lives
would take a twisted turn in a matter of hours. After they had finished talking, they went and got their
ice cream.

The Water Treatment Process
Surface waters necessitate water treatment before consumption to eliminate the risk present to the
consumer. Poor quality water which consists of suspended and dissolved particles pose health risks.
The most harmful contamination is the microbiological contamination which leads to infectious
diseases (Water treatment, 1994).Since the early 1800 s water purification systems have been used to
eliminate the health risk posed by the recycled water. During the final process of treatment alternate
disinfectants are used, however UV radiation and chlorination are predominantly employed
techniques. UV radiation emitted by the sun was discovered to have germicidal effects on pathogens
and micro organisms present water. From this discovery came the introduction of UV radiation lamps,
which emit similar UV rays to the sun to disinfect the water. Chlorination systems had come into use a
few years later during the 1900 s as scientists had discovered the disinfection properties of chlorine.
Both methods have benefits and weaknesses, however chlorination is more suitable due to its low cost
of production and decreased risk of bacterial products in metropolitan areas.
The treatment process involves the removal of contaminants through a number of stages which
include: pre water treatment, coagulation and flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection.
This is called the multiple barrier principle (Water Treatment, 1994).
The water treatment begins with the process of screening,

First one must decide to set up an emergency fund as well the amount to set aside. Another thing
pointed out is the opportunity to make this money work for you. Make sure the money isn t too
accessible otherwise it is very tempting to dip into it. The author suggests a money market account or
U.S. savings bonds as vehicles to use for this occasion. Once established make adding to the account
automatic.
Homeownership
This chapter is all about the benefits of owning a home. Renting doesn t lead to equity and is a less
productive use of your money. Using a mortgage acts like high end investors using leverage, using
someone else s money to work for you. David Bach also brings up a good way to pay down your
mortgage quickly. By making biweekly payments instead of monthly payments, you essentially make
13 monthly payments each year. The tricky part is making biweekly payments automatic. Many banks
will not accept the payments so one must use an outside source. Make sure you ask your bank if they
offer a way to achieve this, if not ask if they can refer you to a company that does.
Debt Free Lifestyle There are both good and bad types of loans. Credit cards are of the bad type. With
their high interest rates and suggested minimum payments, a credit card user could end up paying off
their debt for life. The best thing to do is to stop carrying them altogether. Call up the credit card
company and try to renegotiate the interest rate

The Dormant Accounts From Wwii
Dormant accounts Dormant accounts from WWII became an issue in the mid 1990 s when World
Jewish Congress (WJC) decided to go after Swiss banks for funds they claimed should have been
given back to the survivors or their descendants. According to the WJC, $1.24 billion was paid out to
funds set up by Swiss banks ( Report: Swiss Banks Holocaust Fund Paid out 1.24 Billion Dollars,

Secrecy, Tax Evasion, and Money Laundering The degree to which tax evasion and money laundering
have been investigated in recent years, the validity of having such secrecy has been questioned again.
In 2003 the European Union reached an agreement to phase out banking secrecy, but in fears that the
clients will withdraw funds and deposit them in Switzerland, the three member nations that have
secrecy laws, Belgium, Luxemburg, and Austria, would be permitted to keep those laws so long as
Switzerland does (Meller Langley, 2003). The EU countries, banks will be held to withholding a 15%
tax on the earnings of account holders. So what is money laundering? Our trip to HSBC, Nick
Batterton, provided us with a detailed overview and a case scenario to show just how easily one may
launder money. The three core stages of money laundering are the placement, layering, and
integration. You must first enter your illegal funds into the financial system through deposit, usually
through a legitimate looking business. Then you layer or launder, where you make multiple complex
transactions to displace it from the origin deposit. Once complete you re enter the funds into ligament
purchases such as luxury purchases and financial investments. So why are the banks in

Coming Of Age In Literature
The human experience of coming of age and finding oneself has been prevalent in literature
throughout time. Jane Eyre and A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man are two widely known books
from different time eras that depict the coming of age of two intelligent individuals, and parallel in
terms of characterization of the protagonist and the conflicts in the plot. The fact that two stories can
become so famous during different periods of time truly shows that coming of age is an experience
that is shared across all of time.
The overall plot construction of the two books are very similar and follow each other closely overall.

One smaller but very specific event that happened to both of them happened during their time at
school. They both experienced a very unfair form of punishment in that it was something that they did
not do and they were embarrassed in front of their whole class in the process. In A Portrait of the Artist
as a Young Man, Stephen gets in trouble for breaking his glasses accidentally and his hand was
physically harmed because of it. In Jane Eyre, Mr. Brocklehurst recounts what her aunt falsely said
about her in front of her class due to her breaking a slate on accident. Although they were young, they
both were upset by the injustices, so they took it up with people in positions of authority at their
schools, who realized what really happened and reassured them that they should not have gotten
embarrassed in front of the entire class in the first place. In Jane Eyre, Miss Temple told Jane Well
now, Jane, you know, or at least, I will tell you, that when a criminal is accused, he is always allowed
to speak in his own defence. You have been charged with falsehood; defend yourself to me as well as
you can. Say whatever your memory suggests as true; but add nothing and exaggerate nothing.
(Brontë 71). This statement truly resonated with Jane Eyre, as she took those words to heart to
describe her side of the story at the time, but also did stay with her in the future. She had never been
able to properly defend and explain herself before, and this was a new skill she learned with this
event. These scenes truly parallel each other in what happened and in what it says about the
protagonist s character developments: that both characters are creating minds of their own and are
realizing their ideals in the

Animals Vs Animals
Circuses are loved all around the world, the audience loves seeing the animals do all the crazy tricks.
What they do not know is that circuses are treating their animals terribly. Protestors are a voice for the
animals. The animals can not say what is on their minds, so the protests are doing it for them. They

two completely different things. Protests have been going around all across the world to stop having

Even though circus protestors have been arounds for years, one event that was striking to everyone

whipping tigers or making elephants stand on their heads is normal , when those activities are
anything but normal (Compassion Works International). Protestors do not understand why they think
doing this to animals is okay, causing animals pain and discomfort is not a good thing. The audience
does not see what it s like behind the scenes, that is why there is protests going on across the world so
that the world can get educated on what is really going on.

Comparison Of Battlefield And I Could Fall In Love
Poetry is a form of writing that can make a reader feel a collection of different emotions. Poetry has
evolved into songs and is used by many artists today to make the audience feel the message they are
trying to transmit. Nowadays, poetry and song lyrics are very similar as they are trying to convey
emotions and have an impact on their intended audience. The song, Battlefield by Lea Michele is more
poetic and artistic than the poem, I Could Fall in Love by Grace Hays, because of the use of similes,
extended metaphor, and end rhyme. Both the song, Battlefield and the poem, I Could Fall in Love,
have the same theme throughout the writing. The theme of both pieces is frustration in a relationship

The thought of one sentence continuing onto the next line creates a very specific tone and message
throughout the piece. Enjambment is used in the poem when it says, I hope you know the effect / that
you are having on me (Hays lines 31 32). There are several lines with enjambment in the poem and
this causes the piece of writing to have a certain flow and a different reading effect. Another poetic
device the poem uses is a very straight forward writing style. From the start of the poem, the reader
knows exactly what the author is feeling and the emotions that they speaker is trying to convey. This is
very important to the poem because there had to be something in the writing that makes the reader
want to keep reading. The article, Is Poetry Dead, says, These days, poetry is institutionalized.
Everyone can write it. But if you want a lot of people to read it, or at least the Right Interested
Persons, there are a few choked channels of Reputable Publications. Or you can just spray it liberally
onto the Internet and hope it sticks (Petri 1). This quote really emphasizes that poetry has to have
something special about it that attracts people and keeps them interested. Another poetic device used
in the poem, I Could Fall in Love, is alliteration. Although it is not used several times, it is used when
the author says I get goose (Hays line 18). Besides these three poetic devices, there are not any others
present in the poem which is why the song is more artistic and poetic than the

Great Gatsby Disillusionment Analysis
The Great Gatsby is a tale of of the rich and their fantastical fancies. This novel has become
representative of America s roaring twenties and Fitzgerald praised posthumously for his work.
However, Sven Birkets states that The Great Gatsby is a story of disillusionment and hope and I must
say that I agree with this assertion. By reading carefully and looking into the hidden messages of The
Great Gatsby, readers will begin to have a glimpse into the heads of the rich, seeing and feeling their
outlandish problems and pastimes. Jay Gatsby is a prime example of these fevered dreams and the
Buchanans represent how deceiving these illusions can be at their point of culmination. Gatsby spent

this change, although the couple has quiet disputes, as all marriages contain, they remained together

remains ever faithful, watching over Daisy all through the night. This fighting spirit is held back by

In this lab session, physical transformations were used to separate caffeine content from tea and
separate components by chromatography. The caffeine content was determined by extracting it from
the tea solution by adding sodium carbonate and dichloromethane into the tea and then and then

solvent has been evaporated on a top loading scale, the mass of caffeine was calculated. In the second

By calculation, the amount of caffeine contained within 100 mL of the tea solution is approximately

Relationship Between Media And Relationships
Graeme Wright Emma Hudelson 11/15/17 FYS Media and Relationships Media has existed in our
lives for centuries. It is a continuously developing force that has taken over our world today. In recent
history, films were one of the most popular sources of media and highly influential on the minds of
many throughout the world. It gave people certain ideals and stereotypes of how things should be.
Today, film is not the only prominent media source, social media has made its mark. Mark Zuckerberg
s creation of Facebook was the first major type of social media when it was released in 2004. Since
then, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat have become the three most prominent sources of social media
that follow in facebook s footsteps. According to Statista , Humans consume over 12 hours of media
each day. The 12 hours we spend on media is full of possible love damaging influences. The view of
real love has been altered in recent years due to fake love. According to Chuck Klosterman, the media
has affected the way that humans interpret love in a negative light but, while this is the case, it s also
imperative to show that people can differentiate between what is fake and what is real. Social media is
a common culprit of permitting fake love. Millennials are the up and coming crop of people looking
for love. Social media plays a major role in the lives of these teens and young adults, which can
negatively impact their chances of finding real love. Facebook negatively influences

Whose Time Had Come
Although many people moved to the colonies for religious freedom, it was not long before the morals
began to loosen and religious expectations became a small, unimportant sector of everyday life. As the
first and second generations of colonists began to age and eventually die off, the upcoming population
gave into temptations of the world and were soon far away from the hand of God. When the
separatists made the trip overseas to the new world, they embarked on the dangerous journey in sight
of a place to raise their children under a government that allowed them to have more of a say in the
religious aspects of their children s lifes. The move to the colonies allowed the parents to better
oversee the child s religious education, but this plan for a new land of religious freedom and
concentration on God would eventually become overlooked. The colonists became disinterested in a
relationship with God, attending church services, and even upholding moral standards. While being a
church member was crucial to a citizens role in the town, the adults eventually saw little meaning in
these requirements (Tracy, 2). In the early days of New England, none but church members could hold
any office, or vote at elections. (1) The Puritans laid a discouraging amount of weight on a colonists to
be a part of the church. Exclusion from the Lord s table, that is, excommunication, was attended with
the loss of certain civil rights, and, in most countries, followed by the infliction of

L. M. Rosenblatt
Summary and analysis of theory and research Over the last eight years, I have been a reading/literature
teacher in a middle school composed of 6th through 8th grade. I find that my teaching style has
evolved since finishing my undergraduate work due in part to the following theorists. A theoretical
model by definition is an abstraction, or a generalized pattern devised in order to think about a subject
(Rosenblatt, 1938). This was L. M. Rosenblatt s premise on literacy models, and one which I feel
reflects my thought and feelings while writing this paper. Pioneers The theorist listed in this category
could also be listed under the contemporaries. While she began her work many years ago, her work
has continued to the present. She had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reader may decide on an efferent attention, which has the reader learning from the text. This is
common core classes such as science and history. The second stance is aesthetic and that has the
reader living or feeling the story. Reading a novel for pleasure would fall under this stance. In her
model, writing takes the same stance. If a student reads a poem, they may write another poem
aesthetic or they may write an analysis to describe their meaning of the piece. Rosenblatt contends that
we are always in a state of transaction. We are always changing and growing. Our socioculture
changes to fit the needs of the school environment as needed. We also bring our community and
family culture into the classroom to add to the already growing and changing atmosphere. This can
affect the entire class dynamics relating to the text. Contemporaries James Paul Gee believes that a
piece of language is to be treated as a representation of some information. Clearly state, language is
not some abstract notion that represents a verbal language, but people s experience they encounter in
their lives. Gee has a description similar to schema theory but never uses the terminology. He feels
that we videotape an experience, re edit as new experiences are learned, and then pull from the library
of tapes as needed to help us understand given

Progressive Movement
During the early 1800s to the late 1900s, environmental protection and sustainable economic
development was the primary concern of most American citizen. Their concern over national
environmental and economic policy and its implementation gives birth to the progressive movement
after the American Civil War. The movement gained political roots in national and local politics and
strongly advocated for environmental and economic reform. Progressive movement activism increased
focus on awareness of environmental policy and took environmental management to a new direction
to considered public input in policy decision making, thereby changing public perceptions of
environmental degradation, land ownership, pollution and loss of biodiversity. This ... Show more

As a result, enactment of environmental laws and policy implementation developed into a political
debate between both Republican and democratic politician in the 1960s. By the end of the 1960s
numerous environmental bills aimed at protecting the environmental from pollution, degradation,
erosion, deforestation, land ownership were introduced on the floor of the U.S senate. These policy
actions action give birth to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), a comprehensive
environmental policy conceived in the late 1960s by Henry M. Jackson a democratic senator from
Washington State and signed into law by President Richard M. Nixon. The National Environmental
Policy Act (NEPA), is a landmark environmental policy that has helped in shaping the environmental
policy arena and have proven to be one of the most important environmental policy Act of the
nineteenth century. The author of Environmental Law Handbook writes, The National Environmental
Policy Act of 1969(NEPA) has been heralded as the Magna Carta of the country s environmental
movement. It was signed into law on January 1, 1970, to address the need for a national environmental
policy to guide the growing environmental consciousness and to shape a national response (Sullivan

Whether creating a personal web space or building multiple pages for a large corporation, it is the burden of the designer to guarantee people can access that content. According to the United Nations, disabled people compose roughly 10 percent of the world s population (United Nations, 2010). In addition, the use of screen reading capabilities must be taken into account due to users that are visually impaired. For persons with hearing impairments, audio content must have a text alternative provided, besides this, for users who use alternative speech inputs, there should be a text equivalent. • 3. Notes On Machine Learning And The Development Of Computer... Chapter 2: INTRODUCTION TO MACHINE LEARNING 2.1 Definition Learning like intelligence, covers a wide range of processes that it is challenging to define accurately. Regarding machines, we might define, very broadly, that a machine learns whenever it changes its structure, program, or data (based on its inputs or in response to external information) in such a manner that its expected future performance improves [5]. Machine learning is a type of artificial intelligence (AI) that equips computers with the ability to learn without being explicitly programmed. Machine learning focuses on the development of computer programs that can teach themselves to grow and change when exposed to new data. The process of machine learning is analogous to data mining. Both systems explore through data to look for patterns. However, machine learning uses that data to detect patterns in data and adjust program actions accordingly. Currently, machine learning is more advanced from pattern recognition to theory that computers can learn without being programmed to perform specific tasks. The iterative aspect of machine learning is important because as models are exposed to new data, they are able to independently adapt. They learn from previous computations to produce reliable, repeatable decisions and results. [6] Robot learning is a research field at the intersection of machine learning and robotics. It studies techniques allowing a robot to acquire unique skills or adapt to its environment ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Short Fiction Protagonist In Phil Klay s Redeployment In short fiction is important to have a complex protagonist character. Characters exist largely for the purpose of moving the story along from one plot point to the next. The reader experiences the story through the eyes of the protagonist. A good development of the main character makes a good story. Based on Edgar Allan Poe s quantifications as what constitutes a short fiction story protagonist, Sergeant Price, in Phil Klay s work, Redeployment is an excellent example of a short fiction protagonist because he embodies the protagonist traits of being distrustful of the government, is an outsider, and is a reluctant hero. The first reason Sergeant Price is a good example of short fiction protagonist is because he is distrustful of the government or at least is distrustful of those who are giving orders for he and the other troops to perform. The true evidence of Sergeant Price being distrustful of the government is seen when he says We shoot dogs. Not by accident . . . I am a dog person, so I thought about that a lot (Klay 506). He is killing those dogs because he is following orders, but he does not see the purpose of killing them. Sergeant Price further demonstrates his distrust of those ordering him when he explains But here s the thing. I m thinking a lot, and I mean a lot, about these fucking dogs... And I m thinking about my dog. Vicar (Klay 507). He shows that he does not agree with what he is doing. He just does it because there are orders, but he regrets it. ... • 7. Creating A New Spanglish Media Culture Essay According to the latest estimates from Experian Marketing Service, 63% of Hispanic adults own a smartphone versus 60% of non Hispanics (Fetto, 2014). According to the PWC Consumer Intelligence series, not only are Hispanics the fastest growing minority in the US, they also have the greatest purchasing power of any US ethnic group. For mobile companies, Hispanics represent outstanding growth opportunities (Bothun Lieberman, 2014). Mobile companies use commercials to advertise and connect with the everyday customer. Knowing that Hispanic customers watch both Spanish and English speaking channels they began to use Spanglish commercials as a way to communicate with the Hispanic consumer. As the Hispanic wireless market grows, mobile companies use our Hispanic cultural backgrounds and bicultural lives to sell and connect with customer. Creating a new Spanglish media culture can mean larger numbers for wireless companies and global recognition for this non dominant group. Clearly, the economic power that Hispanics have in the wireless market is immense, and the efforts from these companies to reach the Hispanic community have been shown in their Spanglish commercials and advertising. Throughout the book, the conflict is aimed at the main character Ralph and Jack, who both represented civilized young boys in the beginning of the novel, but quickly developed into savages. Jack was the first of the young boys to experience savagery by trying to overthrow Ralph as chief, and by brutally hunting pigs. Poor quality water which consists of suspended and dissolved particles pose health risks. The most harmful contamination is the microbiological contamination which leads to infectious diseases (Water treatment, 1994).Since the early 1800 s water purification systems have been used to eliminate the health risk posed by the recycled water. During the final process of treatment alternate disinfectants are used, however UV radiation and chlorination are predominantly employed techniques. UV radiation emitted by the sun was discovered to have germicidal effects on pathogens and micro organisms present water. From this discovery came the introduction of UV radiation lamps, which emit similar UV rays to the sun to disinfect the water. Chlorination systems had come into use a few years later during the 1900 s as scientists had discovered the disinfection properties of chlorine. Both methods have benefits and weaknesses, however chlorination is more suitable due to its low cost of production and decreased risk of bacterial products in metropolitan areas. The treatment process involves the removal of contaminants through a number of stages which include: pre water treatment, coagulation and flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection. In A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, Stephen gets in trouble for breaking his glasses accidentally and his hand was physically harmed because of it. In Jane Eyre, Mr. Brocklehurst recounts what her aunt falsely said about her in front of her class due to her breaking a slate on accident. Although they were young, they both were upset by the injustices, so they took it up with people in positions of authority at their schools, who realized what really happened and reassured them that they should not have gotten embarrassed in front of the entire class in the first place. Another poetic device the poem uses is a very straight forward writing style. From the start of the poem, the reader knows exactly what the author is feeling and the emotions that they speaker is trying to convey. This is very important to the poem because there had to be something in the writing that makes the reader want to keep reading. Whose Time Had Come Although many people moved to the colonies for religious freedom, it was not long before the morals began to loosen and religious expectations became a small, unimportant sector of everyday life. As the first and second generations of colonists began to age and eventually die off, the upcoming population gave into temptations of the world and were soon far away from the hand of God. When the separatists made the trip overseas to the new world, they embarked on the dangerous journey in sight of a place to raise their children under a government that allowed them to have more of a say in the religious aspects of their children s lifes. The move to the colonies allowed the parents to better oversee the child s religious education, but this plan for a new land of religious freedom and concentration on God would eventually become overlooked. The colonists became disinterested in a relationship with God, attending church services, and even upholding moral standards. A theoretical model by definition is an abstraction, or a generalized pattern devised in order to think about a subject (Rosenblatt, 1938). This was L. M. Rosenblatt s premise on literacy models, and one which I feel reflects my thought and feelings while writing this paper. Pioneers The theorist listed in this category could also be listed under the contemporaries. While she began her work many years ago, her work has continued to the present. She had ... The second stance is aesthetic and that has the reader living or feeling the story. Reading a novel for pleasure would fall under this stance. In her model, writing takes the same stance. If a student reads a poem, they may write another poem aesthetic or they may write an analysis to describe their meaning of the piece. Rosenblatt contends that we are always in a state of transaction. We are always changing and growing. Our socioculture changes to fit the needs of the school environment as needed. We also bring our community and family culture into the classroom to add to the already growing and changing atmosphere. This can affect the entire class dynamics relating to the text. Contemporaries James Paul Gee believes that a piece of language is to be treated as a representation of some information. Clearly state, language is not some abstract notion that represents a verbal language, but people s experience they encounter in their lives. Gee has a description similar to schema theory but never uses the terminology. He feels that we videotape an experience, re edit as new experiences are learned, and then pull from the library of tapes as needed to help us understand given ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
