Hawthorne’s Use of Allegory
The Minister s Black Veil by Nathaniel Hawthorne is a short story that was first published in the 1836
edition of the Token and Atlantic Souvenir and reappeared over time in Twice Told Tales, a collection
of short stories by Nathaniel Hawthorne. The short story narrates the events that follow Reverend Mr.
Hooper s decision to start wearing a black veil that obscures his full face, except for his mouth and
chin. Mr. Hooper simply arrives one day at the meeting house wearing the semi transparent black veil
and refuses from that moment on to take it off, which leads to the loss of his fiancée and isolation
from the world. Mr. Hooper even goes as far as to insist on burial in the black veil. Yet, what is crucial
to note are Mr. Hooper s last ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This particular idea serves to underscore even further the hypocrisy of human nature and emphasize
the ironic aspects of the short story.
The themes of the story serve to explicate the universal nature of all human beings. These themes
include, for example, shame, guilt, the nature of sinning and morality. With regard to shame, whilst it
is true that the veil covers Mr. Hooper s face, it does at the same time expose the nature of sin as one
embedded deep inside humans. In other words, the veil exposes the sin existent in the world which
makes the townspeople grow more and more uncomfortable. These feelings of discomfort are thus the
result of being faced with the shame within. The more one has learned to ignore the sense of shame at
the sins committed, and the darkness surrounded by, the more he or she is incapable of facing Mr.
Hooper. This leads the discussion to the second theme in the short story: guilt s hidden nature. Indeed,
most townspeople are faced with guilt suppressed upon looking at Mr. Hooper as they have never had
to face a physical form of their guilt. However, Mr. Hooper s didactic usage of the veil serves as a
constant reminder of that which is rather forgotten: sins committed. Using this as a reason, many of
the townspeople chose to ignore Mr. Hooper instead of facing their own veils. However, the Reverend
convinces the townspeople that everyone shares sins no matter what attempt is made to

Chinese Immigration to United States Essay
There were many reasons for the Chinese to come to America. Overcrowding, poverty, war, and other
catastrophes in China were all reasons (push) for traveling to America, as well as effective external
influences. The discovery of gold was a major pull for Chinese peasants in coming to the West Coast.
America s labor needs were the most important external catalyst for immigration. However, there were
very few ways of traveling to the United States. With loans from the Six Companies, Chinese were
able to afford fare to America, and they traveled here to work primarily as gold miners, fishermen, or
agricultural workers; later settling into laundry services and restaurant work (Tsai, China overseas 12
13).
In order to cultivate and develop ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some immigrants had saved money; others sold property, including farm animals, while others
borrowed money from friends or relatives, and some even pledged their families in order to obtain the
loans. The fare, at the lowest estimate, amounted to forty dollars for transportation to San Francisco
and twenty dollars for the return trip During the year 1852 alone, thirty thousand Chinese who
embarked at Hong Kong for San Francisco paid $1,300,000 for the voyage. At the beginning of 1856,
William Speer calculated that all Chinese in California had paid a total of $2,329,580 for the trip (Tsai,
China overseas 13).
Frequently exploited by American capitalists, Chinese laborers were whipped to dig in gold mines,
build railroads, and plant crops. Industry boomed in Western America as the Chinese toiled
ceaselessly. Free immigration was suggested by the United States in the 1868 Burlingame Treaty
because of the need for labor in America and the potential benefits of trading with the Chinese. Labor
was cheap, and many forms of fraud and propaganda were employed to bring Chinese laborers to the
United States. The discovery of gold was also very beneficial in enticing the Chinese (Tsai, China
overseas 13).
The Chinese were perfectly suited for many different jobs at a time when labor was scarce in the West.
California s wheat growers were among the Caucasian employers who hired these

Zionism is the Jewish trying to get their own home. The World Zionist Organisation, set up by
Theodor Herzl was a means of achieving this. Because of this, the WZO had a large effect on
Palestine with the Social, Political and Economic impacts including, a change in the population,
cultural changes and a loss of wealth for the previous occupants of Palestine. Because of all of this, we
can see that the WZO has had a large impact on Palestine.
The Jewish Aliyah s (Zionist Immigration), heavily influenced by the idea of Zionism perpetrated by
the World Zionist Organisation, was a major event affecting the social aspect of Palestine. Supporters
of Zionism though that the Jewish people had an inherent right to Palestine, referring to the divine
promise of the land to the tribes of Israel.
They also thought that them having Palestine would solve the problem of Jewish dispersion and anti
Semitism. These Aliyah s made the Jewish community living in Palestine rise from 6 percent of the
population in 1880 to 10 percent by 1914. With the growing Jewish population, cultural change was
also brought about. The first Aliyah (1881 1903) created villages in Palestine for farmers; the second
(1904 1914) bought about settlement, leading to urban and industrial growth. Overall, the mass ...

Humans’ Moral Obligation to Preserve Endangered Species
Humans Moral Obligation to Preserve Endangered Species
Many species that exists today are becoming endangered to extinction. In the past era where humans
did not exist, extinction occurred due to natural causes. On this present time however, extinction of
species are threatened by humans existence. Humans are the only moral agent; in which, it has the
intellectual capacity that animals and plants do not have. Thus, humans are powerful and dominate
over any species. Many practices that humans do such as: tree logging, environment pollution,

Another example would be the Foklorama event here in Winnipeg where people represents their
countries and shows off their culture by educating people about their culture. Therefore, humans have
a moral obligation to preserve endangered species base on communities cultural icons. Every place
has a unique species in which it can only be found in those places. Those unique species is a part of
which it represents their culture. For instance, a caribou is a cultural icon of Manitoba; Philippine
eagle is an endangered species and is the national bird of the Philippines; as well as panda bears for
China, koala bears for Australia and others. In addition, people value individual animals simply
because of their beauty. As Lill Marlene Russow (2003 p.475) sums up, individual animals can have,
to a greater or lesser degree, aesthetic value: they are valued for their simple beauty, for their
awesomeness, for their intriguing adaptations, for their rarity, and for many other reasons. We have a
moral obligations to protect things of aesthetic value, and to ensure their continued existence. Many
people like to travel to different places and admire the beauty of different species. The beauty of
individual animals attracts people to visit and it adds to admiration of the culture of the place. Thus, to

The Between Russia And Brandenburg Prussia
L état, c est moi. I am the state, as quoted by Louis XIV. This is a great example of the meaning of
absolutism. The kingdoms of France, Russia and Brandenburg Prussia are ample evidence to prove
that absolutism worked and was a commonality compared to constitutionalism. This issue then falls to
whether the differences or the similarities of these kingdoms are more important in European and
World History. The following will provide an argument to support that the similarities of the kingdoms
should be more heavily stressed.
France was set up for absolute monarchy by King Henry IV. Henry s ambitions neutralized the clash
between Catholics and Protestants, in the Edict of Nantes. Before Henry s assassination, he had
created a financial surplus in the kingdom. Next in line for the throne was Louis XIII, Henry s son, but
he was too young to rule, so Cardinal Richelieu had control over the kingdom. He limited the political
privileges of the Huguenots and involved France in the Thirty Years War, and by doing this he
affirmed the royal power and engaged France more in European affairs.
After Richelieu s death, Louis XIII died and, his son, Louis XIV, who was five years old, inherited the
throne. When Louis turned 23 he stepped forward to claim the throne, believing that God had given
him the position of King of France. The Sun King, as Louis was called, surrounded himself with the
nobles to keep them from governing their districts as effectively and thus empowering himself.

Underdogs Research Paper
Have you or a team ever been named the underdogs? A few years ago my hockey team was considered
the underdogs. We were going into a tournament with only seven players including a goalie. We were
playing against the St. Louis Sharks, one of the best teams in the league. They had a full roster full of
healthy player and we were stuck with seven players including a goalie. Being considered as an
underdog team, doesn t mean that things can t fall into place. All seven players of the team make it to
the rink and head to the locker room. The coaches give us a speech on the fact we have very few plays
and brought a couple of extra jerseys to bring some of the other teams players to help us out. The team
hits the rink and the game fis about to start. All of the team takes their positions and one player is on
the bench. As time goes by there is still no score in the first period. My team has seven players and the

They came off the bench with a fire in their a**. Even when they were playing with such strength, we
still had the momentum. We were able to put one more score on the board and win the game four zero.
It was the highlight of the tournament for our team. After that game had finished, we were able to get
all of our players back and go on and win the tournament. Even if you are considered as an underdog
team, doesn t mean that things can t fall into place. All you need is heart, if you believe that you can
do it, put your mind to it and don t let anything come in your way of reaching your goal. Not
everything will be easy that you face but if it is something that you truly care about you will find a
way to reach your goal. Winning that hockey game was one of the hardest things the team had to

Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria And Antibiotics
Bacterial infections are becoming resistant to antibiotics due to people that are sick and receive an
antibiotic from their doctor; but as soon as they start to feel better they stop taking the antibiotic. If
you stop taking antibiotics before the treatment is over can cause the bacteria to return stronger and
this time resistant to that antibiotic. Another reason that certain bacteria s are becoming resistant to
antibiotics is due to patients expecting doctors to prescribe antibiotics to them even though they have a
viral infection not a bacterial one. Antibiotics are among the most commonly prescribed drugs used in
human medicine. However, up to 50% of all the antibiotics prescribed for people are not needed or are
not optimally effective as prescribed. ( Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria. ). Because of the large amount of
antibiotics we take we are killing off our normal flora, which helps us digest our food. Multi drug
resistance is when a bacterium has mutated due to the use of too many antibiotics or due to incorrect
use. When a bacterium is determined as resistant it means that even at a therapeutic level the antibiotic
is not breaking down the cell wall, which means the bacterium will continue to multiply and spread.
The largest cause of resistance is overuse and the incorrect use of antibiotics. Giving incorrect
amounts of antibiotics can cause the good bacteria in your body to become dangerous bacteria;
creating a dangerous multi drug resistant infection all

Special Study Proposal: How has the wearable sculpture of Alexander McQueen, Iris Van Herpen and
Lucy McRae influenced contemporary everyday fashion? Introduction: The Special Study topic I plan
to construct, concentrates on the relationships between that of the art form wearable sculpture and
contemporary, everyday fashions. I will delve into each of their distinctive unique worlds and discover
their boundaries, their contrasts and comparisons, their influences and the designers behind the
creations. These particular concepts will be examined in relation to three artists, namely Alexander
McQueen, Iris Van Herpen and Lucy McRae; who s ambitious, irrational art work and determined
personalities have influenced my individual thoughts and designs throughout my practical studies,
where I am currently designing my own wearable sculpture fashions, based on recycling and re using
old products. I intend to explore the reasoning behind the creations of the irrational, enthusiastic
outfits and what the designers where considering and imagining when planning, manufacturing and

Stereotypes In Disney Film Pocahontas
Animated films are commonly regarded as innocent and enchanting with little influence on the
ideological beliefs that develop in children. Yet it is evident that this rhetoric is detrimental to the
understanding that children are highly susceptible to influences from film and lack necessary skills to
think critically. Thus, animated films instill ideologies within children that follow them throughout
their lives. The predominant white narrative within the Disney film Pocahontas misrepresents
Indigenous culture by portraying them as savage, bestial, and primitive caricatures while the
falsification of historical events sets to maintain the archetypical white Anglo Saxon supremacy,
creating hegemonic ideologies that decisively impact how Indigenous people are viewed negatively
within society and internally feel Otherized, causing confusion of personal identity. I will begin by
articulating how films provoke fantasy, fears, and social concerns to garner audiences for profitability.
These provocations are rooted in the ideologies of the dominant culture at the expense of Indigenous
peoples. I will then express how the Self (white men) and the Other (Indigenous people) are
segmented within Pocahontas and the effects this has on the relationship of Indigenous people to
society. Next, I will discuss how the false representation of historical events creates cultural hegemony
and reinforces categorization of Indigenous people. Lastly, I will demonstrate that the negative and

to achieve a proper balance be tween risk and return in their operations. The principal risk historically
faced by mortgage lenders is the possibility that their clients will be unable or unwilling to pay the
principal and interest on their mortgage loans. Prior to the 1980s, individuals who were poor credit
risks effectively had only two choices for obtaining a mortgage to purchase a home. Those alternatives
were ob taining a home loan insured by either the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) or the
Department of Veteran Affairs (VA). Borrowers with good credit histories, so called prime borrowers,
would typically seek financing for a new loan directly from a bank, savings and loan, or other
financial institutions. The deregulation of the lending industry beginning in the 1980s made it much
easier for subprime borrowers to obtain mortgage loans to finance the purchase of a new home. The

Prison Reform Pros And Cons
Correctional reform will not happen until the profits are removed from the topic. The majority of
prisons, parole, and probation offices are run by privately owned companies. The prison has become

vacation without members of the opposite sex. But there have been cases of female guards having sex

Gay Marriage Promotes Equality and Non Discrimination in Society
Millions of same sex couples contribute to our way of life. They contribute culturally, politically,
socially, and spiritually. Legalizing same sex marriage in the United States makes a statement that all

union. Taking this step we are supporting cultural diversity and reducing prejudice (7 Ways the U.S.A.

2. Gays as Couples and as Individuals Will Be Better Off
Studies continue to demonstrate that people who marry tend to be better off with financial and medical
health. One of the most important aspects of gay marriage is that it establishes legal rights for couples
which makes it easier for people to make social and legal commitments for one another. Most of the
rights and privileges that go with marriage are the ways spouses can support one another. Married

Superiority Theory In Reflections Upon Laughter
Superiority theory was therefore confirmed by the superior members of society refraining from
laughing. In Reflections Upon Laughter, Hutcheson argued against Hobbes s claim that the essential
feature of laughter is expressing feelings of superiority is. If Hobbes were right, claims Hutcheson,
there can be no laughter where we do not compare ourselves with others or with some former state of
ourselves and whenever we feel sudden glory, we laugh. But neither of these is true. We sometimes
laugh at an odd metaphor or simile, for example, without comparing ourselves to anyone. Not only are
feelings of superiority not necessary for amusement, Hutcheson argued, but they are not sufficient,

Unlike the superiority theory which aims at social reform through the emotional side of humour,
incongruity theory aims at social reform through the cognitive side. The cognitive juxtaposition of
contrary interests and attitudes is the key to comedy in Bernard Shaw. The slum dwellers and
landlords in Widower s House, romantic and realistic attitudes to war in Arms and the Man, external
polish and internal instincts in Pygmalion provide comic juxtaposition and create humour with satire.
This approach was taken by James Beattie, Immanuel Kant, Soren Kierkegaard, Arthur Schopenhauer,
and many later philosophers and psychologists. It is now the dominant theory of humor in philosophy
and psychology. As Robert Latta and others have pointed out, the words incongruous and incongruity
are used sloppily in many versions of the theory. The dictionary says that incongruous things are
characterized by a lack of harmony, consistency, or compatibility with one another. Congruere in Latin
means to come together, to agree. In geometry, congruent triangles have the same shape and size; one
fits exactly over the other (104). Paul McGhee s uses the term incongruity interchangeably with
absurdity, ridiculousness, and the ludicrous. McGhee offers a second definition of incongruity:
something unexpected, out of context, inappropriate, unreasonable, illogical, exaggerated, and so
forth. (10). The core concept in incongruity theories is based on the fact that human experience works
with learned patterns. Most of the time, most experiences of most people follow such mental patterns.

These two instances, the guinea pig and sex reassignment studies, lend credence to the idea that
biology influences our sexual orientation. To bolster these findings Bailey et al. (2000) cite researchers
who have explored regions of the brain that are sexually dimorphic (areas that are notably different in
men and women). Bailey et al. (2000) cites that in 1976 Dorner identified two brain regions in rats
that he implicated in sexual behavior for rats. In males he credited the medial pre optic anterior
hypothalamus (mPOA) and in female rats the area he believed to be responsible for normal sexual
behavior was the ventromedial nucleus (Bailey et al., 2000). This led to others exploring the areas of
the hypothalamus thought to contribute to sexual functioning. Ultimately it was found that several
areas in and around the mPOA appear to be sexually dimorphic. Bailey et al. (2000) mention that upon
comparisons of what is expected when looking at these areas in gay men there is a difference in size.
An area near/in the mPOA called INAH 3 is found to be smaller and contain fewer cells in women
compared to men. Gay men showed size and levels higher than women but less than men. Also
findings have shown that the anterior commissure (AC) that connects the right and left hemispheres is

Building Blocks
In my classroom, I plan to have pencils and paper in every center so that the children will have the
opportunity to write at all times. With the writing and art centers, the children will be able to create
works of art such as stories, pictures, writing their names, and other works of art that they would like.
In the writing and art centers, the possibilities are endless as to what the children can create and they
are able to use their imagination, fine motor skills, all while working on communicating their thoughts
and ideas onto paper. The reason I chose building blocks/construction center for my classroom is
because the children get to have a hands on experience to learn through. Building blocks help with the
cognitive development in preschoolers, and they can also use their own imaginations to create a
masterpiece. With blocks, children are also able to learn about the different shapes, sizes, colors, and
ways of making patterns and comparing one object to another. ... Show more content on

I believe that all children need to be exposed to books from a very early age. By exposing children to
books from the start, it will build up their interest and curiosity so that when they get to the reading
stage they will succeed and have a rich vocabulary knowledge. By placing books in my pre
kindergarten class, the children will learn about the concepts about print, and as they progress through
the year they will learn the the words in the story is what contains the message, and that each story has
a meaning. In my book center, I will also have puppets that go with some of the books so that the
children can use the puppet while reading and have the puppet mouth the words, or use the puppet and
act out the story. In my book center the children will have the opportunity to read to one another as
well as by themselves, this will help each child work on their listening, communication, speaking, and

material handling production process, personnel and the equipment that directs work flow and
generates finished products. Different types of production systems are Progressive bundle system Unit

Large quantities of work in process are often characteristic of this type of production system. This
may lead to longer throughput time, poor quality concealed by bundles, large inventory, extra
handling, and difficulty in controlling inventory Unit production system A unit production system
(UPS) is a type of line layout that uses an overhead transporter system to move garment components
from work station to work station for Assembly [pic] Work flow of unit production All the parts for a
single garment are advanced through the production line together by means of a hanging carrier that
travels along an overhead conveyor. The overhead rail system consists of the main conveyor and
accumulating rails for each work station. The overhead conveyor operates much like a railroad track.
Carriers are moved along the main conveyor and switched to an accumulating rail at the work station
where an operation is to be performed. At the completion of an operation the operator presses a button,
and the carrier moves on to the next operation. Most unit production systems are linked to a computer
control center that routes and tracks production and provides up to the minute data for management
decisions. The automatic control of work flow sorts work, balances the line, and reduces claims of
favouritism in bundle distribution. Electronic data collection provides payroll and inventory data,

Basic Pricing Strategies For A New Backpack Entering The...
The price strategy defines the initial, base price and the appropriate strategy depends on the pricing
objectives. There are three basic pricing strategies for pricing a product or service: price skimming,
penetration pricing and status quo pricing. Effective marketing involves the price being set to equal
the perceived value of the product, a backpack, to the target market, university students. The following
sections discuss the alternative pricing strategies, the advantages and disadvantages of these and the
most appropriate strategy for a new backpack entering the market.
Price skimming, also known as market plus, involves setting a high price when compared to the
competition and then eventually lowering this price. It is usually used for new products and services
that will attract early adopters willing to pay a higher price. The business can initially reach these early
adopters to maximise revenue, but this may be limited because students are often price sensitive due to
their low income. However, the higher price enables companies to test students willingness to pay a
high price, and then lower the price to appeal to those who are more price sensitive. Although, this
may aggravate early adopters, a lasting high price may defer mass market acceptance. The initial high
profit margin may lead companies into avoiding cutting production costs which is necessary for when
the selling price lowers. However, price skimming allows the company to quickly recover product

Anonymous Anonymous, an infamous hacktivist group. Their slogan We are Anonymous. We are
Legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget. Expect us. Now, one can come to think that they kind of
sound like an underground rebel group. Which is what they are, but they do it all via the internet. Once
must also think, well how do they do it all via internet and not get caught? They tunnel all their nodes
and logs through private networks and encrypted chats. You may ask, what do they fight for? Well it s
obvious, they all fight for one thing: Freedom and a proper Government. You can come to this
conclusion just by taking a peek at their tweets, videos, speeches, and etc. It s obvious that
Anonymous s intended audience is anyone they can reach out to, not only does this hacktivist group
focus on American problems, but they also take third world countries problems into consideration. So,
with all this information, you re probably thinking, well how do they solve America s problems?

The Importance Of Saying All Lives Matter
I strongly dislike when people lack understanding. When it comes to the Black Lives Matter
movement, why are people quick to raise All Lives Matter ? Instead of trying to understand the
hardship and racism that African Americans face, people are quick to be defensive and assume that if
Black lives matter then all of a sudden now no one elses lives matter. Saying All Lives Matter is a
selfish sentiment showing that people lack a level of compassion when it comes to an issue that does
not address them. I think that this an inhuman and wrong way of thinking. I believe that having

The Dynamite Club Summary
The Dynamite Club is a portrayal of fin de siècle Paris and how a bombing in 1894, led to the
foundation of the age of modern terror. The author, John Merriman, focuses on a particular individual,
Émile Henry, and how his motives for becoming an anarchist turned him into the first modern
terrorist. An anarchist is a person who believes in the abolition of government and the organization of
society. Anarchism is closely associated with terrorism due to the kinds of people it attracts, mainly
the poor. During the1850s 1900s anarchism was common because of poverty and political exclusion;
Henry saw this, causing his hatred to grow. To understand how Henry embraced a violent form of
anarchism, Merriman studied him using private journals, letters, ... Show more content on

The second bombing took place in February of 1894, less than two years later from his first. Henry
was targeting the wealthy, fueled by extreme hatred of what they had and that so many other people
didn t. Henry wanted to throw the bomb into a crowd that would do the most damage, he counted on
fifteen dead and twenty wounded at the very least (Merriman 1). Henry aimed for the Opera but was
underdressed and wouldn t be able to make it past the guards, so he went to Café de la Paix. Since
there weren t enough people to kill in there, he decided to go to another, Café Américan, which was
not full enough either. He ended up at Café Terminus. Henry order two beers and a cigar, paying for
them both, anarchist did not believe in theft, and then waited for the place to fill up with the
bourgeois. When the orchestra was halfway through with their pieces, Henry got up, carrying his
bomb with him. After taking a few steps outside, Henry turned around, lit the cigar and threw his
bomb inside the café. Although he only killed one person at Café Terminus, this particular form of
violence was directed at random victims simply for what they stood for. The motive for this bombing
was brought about by hate, seeing sharp contrast between the wealthy and those barely able to survive,
not by personal connection or in order to bring about a solution, creating new grounds for

Forms Of Government In Dracula By Bram Stoker
There are many forms of government around the world. The United States is a democratic republic.
North Korea is governed under an authoritarian dictatorship. Some countries are monarchies governed
by hereditary rulers. But whether these are good forms of government depends on whether they
achieve the purposes of government. For example, the Apostle Paul said that the purpose of
government was to punish evildoers, or said another way, to secure the peace. (Romans 13:40)
Another example is the US Constitution that says government has six purposes: to secure unity,
justice, domestic tranquility, defense, general welfare and liberty. (Preamble to the US Constitution)
To achieve any of these goals, the best government would be able to identify ... Show more content on

A strong defense protects the country from outside invaders, promotes a sense of well being within the
country, and allows people the confidence to prosper. A vampire government would be able to defend
its citizens from outside threats far better than any human form of government. Consider the
characteristics that make vampires so good in battle as described by Professor Van Helsing in Bram
Stoker s Dracula. He throws no shadow. He is as strong as 20 men; he is of cunning more than mortal,
for his cunning be the growth of ages... He can transform himself into wolf... He can be as bat. He can
come in mist which he can create... He can appear as elemental dust and become small. He can, when
once he find his way, come out from anything or into anything, no matter how close it be bounce or
fused up with fire... he can also see in the dark. ...he can, within his range, direct the elements: the
storm, the fog, the thunder; he can command all the meaner things: the rat, and the owl, and the bat the
moth, and the fox, and the wolf; he can grow and become small; and he can at times vanish and come
unknown. (Bram Stoker s Dracula pg. 287). This quote shows directly just how powerful vampires
can be in battle. No human army in the world would be a match for a vampire led army, much less an
army of vampires. If a vampire became threatened he or she could just vanish into thin air, raise a
storm to the detriment of his enemies, summon animals to assail for it, drown its enemies in water,
burn its enemies with the snap of its fingers, or just simply attack them with his/her own hands.
According to Count Dracula in Bram Stoker s Dracula, men of the Dracula blood were great leaders in
battle and can boast a record that mushroom growths like the Hapsburgs and the Romanoffs can never
reach. (Dracula pg. 42) No human army can boast

Sexual Orientation Research Paper

s Between heterosexual, homosexual, bi sexual, pansexual most people may claim that they already
know and have a solid understanding about the basics of sexual orientation and what one identifies
with gender wise. We live in a primarily heteronormative society where a naturally heterosexual male
and female get together. Yet who s to say which is normal and which is natural ? Of course as Alfred
Kinsey proposed that sexual orientation is believed to exist on a continuum that ranges from exclusive
heterosexuality to exclusive homosexuality and includes various forms of bisexuality. When did it
become necessary on placing labels on people for what they were attracted and where society placed
them on that continuum? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Science would say that they are born. However there is no gene that can determine sexual orientation
and they believe that there are many factors that can influence one s sexual orientation. However it
sexuality weren t socially constructed, we wouldn t have to determine one s sexual identity.
Same sex love has been going on for centuries, In Ancient Greece, men used to have sexual relations
with adolescent boys however there were basis for sexual identity. The men were not considered
homosexual. In fact, in was just met with dominant and submissive roles, not gay or straight or even
really male or female. It was quite normal for the men to sleep with other men. As long as there was a
passive and a dominant figure, it was okay. Homosexuality though blatant was not even a thing.
People should be able to be free and explore their sexual identity as they please without society always
trying to label them. It is our innate right as humans. If we repress all the labels, and embrace sex and
different sexual identities, then and only then can we break from the social construction of sexuality
for good. We need to stop letting sex be something we cannot talk about and we shouldn t let history
continue in the direction its going. We need to educate ourselves on sex and sexuality, because they
are not one and the same but some people get them confused together. It is not about our given sex or
the act of sex rather than the rules set out as a guide for us by society so we can blindly follow

The Greenhouse Effect On Earth
When you hear about global warming many things come to mind. The greenhouse effect, pollution,
carbon dioxide and of course, the earths temperatures rising. When people hear of the greenhouse
effect do they actually know what it is. The suns UV rays hit the earth and 30% of the energy reflected
back into space, 47% gets absorbed by gasses and turns into heat energy. The rest is shared between
the water cycle, photosynthesis Some of the heat tries to escape back into the atmosphere but is
trapped by the greenhouse gasses. This in turn makes earth a liveable planet. Without these
greenhouse gasses the earth would have an average temperature of 18 degrees instead of a nice
liveable 15 degrees Celsius.
So the greenhouse effect is supposed to be a good thing. It makes life on planet earth possible.
However, with the increase of greenhouse gasses the earth is absorbing a lot more heat than it needs.
When there are too many greenhouse gasses floating around the atmosphere and excess heat becomes
trapped causing earths temperature to rise.
The enhanced greenhouse effect causes global warming. Simply put, global warming is earths
temperatures increasing due to pollution. The first person to predict global warming was a Swedish
chemist named Svante Arrhenius. He predicted that with the increasing amount of carbon dioxide in
the atmosphere. Between 1880 and 1940 the temperature rose but then dropped between 1940 and
1970. Because of the drop there looked to be no

Dear Mum and Dad,
I really love my new job as a geologist at BHP Billiton. At the moment I am studying Zinc. The main
zinc mines in Australia are the McArthur River mine in the Northern Territory and Cannington in
Queensland. There are zinc mines in 5 out of 7 states or territories in Australia and almost all zinc
mines are found underground.
Seeing as though you I don t know think that you know much about zinc I ll tell you about it. Zinc is
considered an ore, as an ore is a naturally occurring material that contains a high enough concentration
of metal in it to make it worth extracting the metal from it.
The most common compound of zinc found in nature is zinc sulfide. In Zinc sulfide the elements are
Boron, Oxygen and Zinc.

James C Collins Clock Building, Not Time Telling
This paper will explore the concept of Clock Building, Not Time Telling, as presented by James C.
Collins and Jerry I. Porras in their book, Built To Last: Successful Habits of Visionary Companies.
The goal is to identify the underlying reason and rational behind architects of visionary companies and
how they left their mark for generations to come through something larger than a single act or product.
Through compelling facts and research about companies, a change in thought has occurred. For the
enterprises and start ups of tomorrow, leaders must strive to be clock builders. By becoming these
grand architects, the leader s greatest creation, the company itself and what it stands for, (Collins and
Porras 23) must stand above and beyond anything else. This is the crucial claim discovered by Collins
and Porras by investigating key factors. Through exploring two entrenched business myths, they
revealed that visionary companies were built upon something greater and grander than originally
thought. They began to evaluate various companies roots and leadership, finding astonishing
correlations that change the landscape and mindset of company development. Simply being able to tell
the time will not cut it in the business world; one must build a clock from the ground up to truly
succeed.
To develop an understanding of Clock Building, Not Time Telling, we will first explore the two myths
of the business world that are engrained in the minds of individuals thought to achieve

And Nygaard (1996) said In object oriented programming, an information process is regarded as a
system developing through transformation of its state. The substance of the process is organized as the
system components, called objects. A measurable property of the substance is a property of an object.
Transformation of state is regarded as actions by objects.
Mathiasen et el. (2000) gave the following description In many traditional Analysis and design
methods, functions, data, and data flows are the key concepts (5). The concepts are suitable for
describing phenomena in offices and computerized systems. Objects, states, and behavior on the other
hand, are more general concepts and are suitable for describing most phenomena that can be expressed
in natural language.
Object oriented programming (OOP) and object oriented design (OOD) refer to a particular way of
organizing programs, one which is rapidly emerging as the preferred approach for building complex
software systems (Morelli, R, 2000 pg. 5). Sommerville (2001) gave the following definitions: Object
oriented analysis is concerned with developing an object oriented model of the application domain.
The identified objects reflect entities and operations that are associated with the problem to be solved.

Language And Bias In Language
Language and Bias In New York City, hundreds of languages have been spoken everyday on the street
as a grand representation that we live in a multilingual society. However, within the multilingual
society minority language is often deemed as not useful due to the cultural, social and economical
advantages that dominant language is able to bring along with it. This explains that why some of
second generation immigrants are unable to speak in their heritage language, because they or their
parents hold this belief. Also, this kind of attitude can be even found in the classroom. According to
Mallinson, Professor of Language, Literacy, and Culture, from University of Maryland and Hudley,
Associate Professor of Education, English, and Linguistics from College of William Mary, study
suggests that teachers might subconsciously or consciously favor students who talk like them and
judge negatively toward students who doesn t. This would discourage that students from different
language background to speak, crate linguistic insecurity and ultimately affect their academic
performance (2017). Additionally, Minority languages could face challenges related to governmental
power. During the Francisco Franco era, the dictator banned the Catalan language from speaking in
public. Because the dictator wanted to create a Spanish centralized nation. Prominent Catalan figures
were prosecuted; Catalan language in the public education system was suppressed. As a result,

The Media And The Platform
The media and the platform
For decades now women have suffered from the oppression of the patriarchal society we continue to
live in today. Giving credit where it is due, I will say we have made an evident and beneficial
progression as far as the essentialist views of feminism. There are many ways to promote feminism
and emphasize the importance of progression it is beneficial for all. There are many ways to promote
and encourage the movement as an individual however, having a platform would be more ideal. That
being said, many celebrities do indeed use their platforms to speak on social injustices happening
daily, one in particular being Beyonce Knowles. Beyonce Knowles is an artist who has been very
active in the media for at least a decade now. She began her career as a vocalist in the R B group
Destiny s Child and rocketed her career from there. Many of the songs Beyoncé [is clearly in support
of] promote feminism and girl power which is no secret; one in particular, If I were a Boy, written in
2007, directly calls out the patriarchal views associated with heterosexual relationships. The song
represents the type of relationships represented not only in the media but realistically speaking as well.
Beyonce used her platform to challenge social injustices not only by singing this song but also her
performance and message via the music video to it. One thing to note are the specific lyrics that
suggest dominant gender roles and though it was done as a means to promote

Analysis Of Three Fundamental Assumptions Are Made
Throughout this policy paper, three fundamental assumptions are made:
1. The Murdell Flemming Model is a fundamentally sound method of analysis.
2. A global trend toward liberalization of free trade is both strictly current and strictly relevant to
Chinese economic growth.
3. The power dynamic between host country, home country, and Multinational Corporation is a
driving factor in cross regional mergers and acquisitions and thereby domestic economic growth as
measured by nominal gross domestic product.
The Murdell Flemming Trilemma or Unholy Trinity states that a government can only generate policy
that satisfies two of three general desires; these desires are exchange rate stability, capital mobility,
and domestic monetary autonomy (Cohen, 2010). Concerning the China, the general international
monetary choices should be capital mobility and domestic monetary autonomy. In an era where
multinational corporations are increasingly looking to cross regional mergers and acquisitions to
create value, it is more important than ever for China to retain capital mobility and domestic monetary
autonomy (Cross Regional, 2015). Through an examination of multinational corporations and
domestic monetary policy choices, the need for capital mobility and domestic monetary autonomy
become clear. This need is proven through the effects these policy choices have on domestic monetary
value and the subsequent consequences these effects have on cross regional mergers and acquisitions.

Essay On Black Church
What I found disappointing about the surveys provided was that there seem to be no means to verify
the information collected. The questions asked in the survey were subjective. If I were to contact a
church and ask if they offer outreach, the majority will say yes. When asked what type of outreach the
answers would be similar. Do you offer services to youth? Yes, most churches have youth ministries.
Do you offer any form of education based programs? This would fall under Sunday school and Bible
Study, both staples in most churches. Do you have prison outreach? Again, churches offer this
ministry, which typically amounts to several members going to a local prison and praying with
prisoners. If the questions were more in depth the survey ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Many of the same faces that came through the lines headed to another giveaway taking places a half

by participating in these type programs. My question is what happens to the hungry in these
communities the other 364 days of the year?
Billingsley lists seven characteristics of churches that make a difference when it comes to outreach
ministry. These are denomination, church age, size, membership composition, ownership of church
building, number of clergy, and other paid staff. (Billingsley95). He believes that more characteristics
a church possesses the more valuable the outreach they provide. A separate 15 year study of the black

This is an example of hegemonic feminine ideology because they put out Wendy s mom to be the

be more silent than men and are not meant to speak out what they think and how women are never in

doing. They always have to be one s cheering for them. Society has the idea of women always having
to be the supporters of whatever their men are doing they have to be right there along them supporting
them and cheering them on because according to society that is the women s job. Later on in the

A Brief Note On Sweden And Norway And Sweden Essay
CDP Paper Sweden, Introduction
History:
Sweden has been a land populated for thousands of years, by early humans who left remnants of their
civilization through simple tools and cave drawings. Sweden was originally a set of provinces that,
around 1000 AD, were absorbed into a single unit, with their government system being that of an
absolute monarchy. However, by 1389, Sweden, along with Norway and Denmark, was placed under
the rule of Danish Queen Margareta, creating the Kalmar Union. The Kalmar union fell apart due to
internal conflicts, and Sweden became independent in 1523 ( History of Sweden | Official site of
Sweden , 2015). Soon after, the Swedish royalty nationalized churches and took its estate. This set the
bedrock for the Swedish state, concentrating wealth and power in the hands of royals, and had
economic and social consequences for years to come. In 1718, however, the Swedish royalty lost
much of its power, with the Riksdag (Swedish Parliament) choosing to take power away from the king
and put it with Parliament( History of Sweden | Official site of Sweden , 2015). Late 19th century
Sweden was affected by popular movement, such as those to free churches and encourage women
rights. Current day Sweden is a parliamentary government, with its constitution stating that power
comes from the people, and the monarch being a head of state in name only.
Geography:
Sweden is a nation in Northern Europe, with an area of 450,000 km^2. It s slightly larger than

With regard to shame, whilst it is true that the veil covers Mr. Hooper s face, it does at the same time expose the nature of sin as one embedded deep inside humans. In other words, the veil exposes the sin existent in the world which makes the townspeople grow more and more uncomfortable. These feelings of discomfort are thus the result of being faced with the shame within. The more one has learned to ignore the sense of shame at the sins committed, and the darkness surrounded by, the more he or she is incapable of facing Mr. Hooper. This leads the discussion to the second theme in the short story: guilt s hidden nature. Indeed, most townspeople are faced with guilt suppressed upon looking at Mr. Hooper as they have never had to face a physical form of their guilt. However, Mr. Hooper s didactic usage of the veil serves as a constant reminder of that which is rather forgotten: sins committed. Using this as a reason, many of the townspeople chose to ignore Mr. Hooper instead of facing their own veils. However, the Reverend convinces the townspeople that everyone shares sins no matter what attempt is made to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Overcrowding, poverty, war, and other catastrophes in China were all reasons (push) for traveling to America, as well as effective external influences. The discovery of gold was a major pull for Chinese peasants in coming to the West Coast. America s labor needs were the most important external catalyst for immigration. However, there were very few ways of traveling to the United States. At the beginning of 1856, William Speer calculated that all Chinese in California had paid a total of $2,329,580 for the trip (Tsai, China overseas 13). Frequently exploited by American capitalists, Chinese laborers were whipped to dig in gold mines, build railroads, and plant crops. Industry boomed in Western America as the Chinese toiled ceaselessly. Free immigration was suggested by the United States in the 1868 Burlingame Treaty because of the need for labor in America and the potential benefits of trading with the Chinese. Labor was cheap, and many forms of fraud and propaganda were employed to bring Chinese laborers to the United States. The discovery of gold was also very beneficial in enticing the Chinese (Tsai, China overseas 13). • 8. The Between Russia And Brandenburg Prussia L état, c est moi. I am the state, as quoted by Louis XIV. This is a great example of the meaning of absolutism. The kingdoms of France, Russia and Brandenburg Prussia are ample evidence to prove that absolutism worked and was a commonality compared to constitutionalism. This issue then falls to whether the differences or the similarities of these kingdoms are more important in European and World History. The following will provide an argument to support that the similarities of the kingdoms should be more heavily stressed. France was set up for absolute monarchy by King Henry IV. Henry s ambitions neutralized the clash between Catholics and Protestants, in the Edict of Nantes. Before Henry s assassination, he had created a financial surplus in the kingdom. Next in line for the throne was Louis XIII, Henry s son, but he was too young to rule, so Cardinal Richelieu had control over the kingdom. He limited the political privileges of the Huguenots and involved France in the Thirty Years War, and by doing this he affirmed the royal power and engaged France more in European affairs. After Richelieu s death, Louis XIII died and, his son, Louis XIV, who was five years old, inherited the throne. When Louis turned 23 he stepped forward to claim the throne, believing that God had given him the position of King of France. The Sun King, as Louis was called, surrounded himself with the nobles to keep them from governing their districts as effectively and thus empowering himself. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria And Antibiotics Bacterial infections are becoming resistant to antibiotics due to people that are sick and receive an antibiotic from their doctor; but as soon as they start to feel better they stop taking the antibiotic. If you stop taking antibiotics before the treatment is over can cause the bacteria to return stronger and this time resistant to that antibiotic. Another reason that certain bacteria s are becoming resistant to antibiotics is due to patients expecting doctors to prescribe antibiotics to them even though they have a viral infection not a bacterial one. Antibiotics are among the most commonly prescribed drugs used in human medicine. However, up to 50% of all the antibiotics prescribed for people are not needed or are not optimally effective as prescribed. ( Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria. ). Because of the large amount of antibiotics we take we are killing off our normal flora, which helps us digest our food. Multi drug resistance is when a bacterium has mutated due to the use of too many antibiotics or due to incorrect use. When a bacterium is determined as resistant it means that even at a therapeutic level the antibiotic is not breaking down the cell wall, which means the bacterium will continue to multiply and spread. The largest cause of resistance is overuse and the incorrect use of antibiotics. Yet it is evident that this rhetoric is detrimental to the understanding that children are highly susceptible to influences from film and lack necessary skills to think critically. Thus, animated films instill ideologies within children that follow them throughout their lives. The predominant white narrative within the Disney film Pocahontas misrepresents Indigenous culture by portraying them as savage, bestial, and primitive caricatures while the falsification of historical events sets to maintain the archetypical white Anglo Saxon supremacy, creating hegemonic ideologies that decisively impact how Indigenous people are viewed negatively within society and internally feel Otherized, causing confusion of personal identity. I will begin by articulating how films provoke fantasy, fears, and social concerns to garner audiences for profitability. These provocations are rooted in the ideologies of the dominant culture at the expense of Indigenous peoples. I will then express how the Self (white men) and the Other (Indigenous people) are segmented within Pocahontas and the effects this has on the relationship of Indigenous people to society. The slum dwellers and landlords in Widower s House, romantic and realistic attitudes to war in Arms and the Man, external polish and internal instincts in Pygmalion provide comic juxtaposition and create humour with satire. This approach was taken by James Beattie, Immanuel Kant, Soren Kierkegaard, Arthur Schopenhauer, and many later philosophers and psychologists. It is now the dominant theory of humor in philosophy and psychology. As Robert Latta and others have pointed out, the words incongruous and incongruity are used sloppily in many versions of the theory. • 23. Basic Pricing Strategies For A New Backpack Entering The... The price strategy defines the initial, base price and the appropriate strategy depends on the pricing objectives. There are three basic pricing strategies for pricing a product or service: price skimming, penetration pricing and status quo pricing. Effective marketing involves the price being set to equal the perceived value of the product, a backpack, to the target market, university students. The following sections discuss the alternative pricing strategies, the advantages and disadvantages of these and the most appropriate strategy for a new backpack entering the market. Price skimming, also known as market plus, involves setting a high price when compared to the competition and then eventually lowering this price. It is usually used for new products and services that will attract early adopters willing to pay a higher price. The business can initially reach these early adopters to maximise revenue, but this may be limited because students are often price sensitive due to their low income. However, the higher price enables companies to test students willingness to pay a high price, and then lower the price to appeal to those who are more price sensitive. Although, this may aggravate early adopters, a lasting high price may defer mass market acceptance. The initial high profit margin may lead companies into avoiding cutting production costs which is necessary for when the selling price lowers. The author, John Merriman, focuses on a particular individual, Émile Henry, and how his motives for becoming an anarchist turned him into the first modern terrorist. An anarchist is a person who believes in the abolition of government and the organization of society. Anarchism is closely associated with terrorism due to the kinds of people it attracts, mainly the poor. During the1850s 1900s anarchism was common because of poverty and political exclusion; Henry saw this, causing his hatred to grow. • 27. Forms Of Government In Dracula By Bram Stoker There are many forms of government around the world. The United States is a democratic republic. North Korea is governed under an authoritarian dictatorship. Some countries are monarchies governed by hereditary rulers. But whether these are good forms of government depends on whether they achieve the purposes of government. For example, the Apostle Paul said that the purpose of government was to punish evildoers, or said another way, to secure the peace. (Romans 13:40) Another example is the US Constitution that says government has six purposes: to secure unity, justice, domestic tranquility, defense, general welfare and liberty. A vampire government would be able to defend its citizens from outside threats far better than any human form of government. Consider the characteristics that make vampires so good in battle as described by Professor Van Helsing in Bram Stoker s Dracula. He throws no shadow. He is as strong as 20 men; he is of cunning more than mortal, for his cunning be the growth of ages... He can transform himself into wolf... He can be as bat. He can come in mist which he can create... He can appear as elemental dust and become small. He can, when once he find his way, come out from anything or into anything, no matter how close it be bounce or fused up with fire... he can also see in the dark. ...he can, within his range, direct the elements: the storm, the fog, the thunder; he can command all the meaner things: the rat, and the owl, and the bat the moth, and the fox, and the wolf; he can grow and become small; and he can at times vanish and come unknown. (Bram Stoker s Dracula pg. 287). This quote shows directly just how powerful vampires can be in battle. No human army in the world would be a match for a vampire led army, much less an army of vampires. If a vampire became threatened he or she could just vanish into thin air, raise a storm to the detriment of his enemies, summon animals to assail for it, drown its enemies in water, burn its enemies with the snap of its fingers, or just simply attack them with his/her own hands. According to Count Dracula in Bram Stoker s Dracula, men of the Dracula blood were great leaders in battle and can boast a record that mushroom growths like the Hapsburgs and the Romanoffs can never reach. When people hear of the greenhouse effect do they actually know what it is. The suns UV rays hit the earth and 30% of the energy reflected back into space, 47% gets absorbed by gasses and turns into heat energy. The rest is shared between the water cycle, photosynthesis Some of the heat tries to escape back into the atmosphere but is trapped by the greenhouse gasses. This in turn makes earth a liveable planet. Without these greenhouse gasses the earth would have an average temperature of 18 degrees instead of a nice liveable 15 degrees Celsius. So the greenhouse effect is supposed to be a good thing. It makes life on planet earth possible. However, with the increase of greenhouse gasses the earth is absorbing a lot more heat than it needs. When there are too many greenhouse gasses floating around the atmosphere and excess heat becomes trapped causing earths temperature to rise. The enhanced greenhouse effect causes global warming. Simply put, global warming is earths temperatures increasing due to pollution. The first person to predict global warming was a Swedish chemist named Svante Arrhenius. • 31. James C Collins Clock Building, Not Time Telling This paper will explore the concept of Clock Building, Not Time Telling, as presented by James C. Collins and Jerry I. Porras in their book, Built To Last: Successful Habits of Visionary Companies. The goal is to identify the underlying reason and rational behind architects of visionary companies and how they left their mark for generations to come through something larger than a single act or product. Through compelling facts and research about companies, a change in thought has occurred. For the enterprises and start ups of tomorrow, leaders must strive to be clock builders. By becoming these grand architects, the leader s greatest creation, the company itself and what it stands for, (Collins and Porras 23) must stand above and beyond anything else. This is the crucial claim discovered by Collins and Porras by investigating key factors. Through exploring two entrenched business myths, they revealed that visionary companies were built upon something greater and grander than originally thought. They began to evaluate various companies roots and leadership, finding astonishing correlations that change the landscape and mindset of company development. Simply being able to tell the time will not cut it in the business world; one must build a clock from the ground up to truly succeed. Transformation of state is regarded as actions by objects. Mathiasen et el. However, within the multilingual society minority language is often deemed as not useful due to the cultural, social and economical advantages that dominant language is able to bring along with it. This explains that why some of second generation immigrants are unable to speak in their heritage language, because they or their parents hold this belief. Also, this kind of attitude can be even found in the classroom. According to Mallinson, Professor of Language, Literacy, and Culture, from University of Maryland and Hudley, Associate Professor of Education, English, and Linguistics from College of William Mary, study suggests that teachers might subconsciously or consciously favor students who talk like them and judge negatively toward students who doesn t. Many of the songs Beyoncé [is clearly in support of] promote feminism and girl power which is no secret; one in particular, If I were a Boy, written in 2007, directly calls out the patriarchal views associated with heterosexual relationships. The Murdell Flemming Model is a fundamentally sound method of analysis. 2. A global trend toward liberalization of free trade is both strictly current and strictly relevant to Chinese economic growth. 3. The power dynamic between host country, home country, and Multinational Corporation is a driving factor in cross regional mergers and acquisitions and thereby domestic economic growth as measured by nominal gross domestic product. The Murdell Flemming Trilemma or Unholy Trinity states that a government can only generate policy that satisfies two of three general desires; these desires are exchange rate stability, capital mobility, and domestic monetary autonomy (Cohen, 2010). Concerning the China, the general international monetary choices should be capital mobility and domestic monetary autonomy. In an era where multinational corporations are increasingly looking to cross regional mergers and acquisitions to create value, it is more important than ever for China to retain capital mobility and domestic monetary autonomy (Cross Regional, 2015). A Brief Note On Sweden And Norway And Sweden Essay CDP Paper Sweden, Introduction History: Sweden has been a land populated for thousands of years, by early humans who left remnants of their civilization through simple tools and cave drawings. Sweden was originally a set of provinces that, around 1000 AD, were absorbed into a single unit, with their government system being that of an absolute monarchy. However, by 1389, Sweden, along with Norway and Denmark, was placed under the rule of Danish Queen Margareta, creating the Kalmar Union. The Kalmar union fell apart due to internal conflicts, and Sweden became independent in 1523 ( History of Sweden | Official site of Sweden , 2015).
