The Twelve Tribes of Hattie by Ayana Mathis
Ayana Mathis graduated from Iowa Writers Workshop and received the Michener Copernicus
Fellowship. What Ayana Mathis didn t know is that her first novel, The Twelve Tribes of Hattie,
would shoot her immediately into success. Her book received remarkable awards such as a New
York Times Bestseller and a New York Times Notable Book of the Year 2013 award, as well as
having been recommended by Oprah Winfreyand included for Oprah s Book Club 2.0. As visiting
faculty at the Iowa Writer s Workshop, Ayana would taught fiction writing in Spring 2013, and is
currently writing and teaching at The Writer s Foundry MFA Program at St. Joseph s College,
Brooklyn, New York. (Mathis).
The Twelve Tribes of Hattie is a story of a Hattie Shepherd, a young girl who leaves from
Georgia and moves to Philadelphia, looking for the opportunity of a better life up in the Northern
states. Hattie was one of the millions that moved during part of the Great Migration; a movement
that began 1916 when six million African Americans packed up and headed north in search of
more economic opportunity and to escape segregationist laws that plagued the southern part of the
United States at the time (History.com Staff). Early in the story, Hattie is quite clearly a very
hopeful person and anticipating an improvement in her life, this is evidenced by the names of her
first kids, a set of twins by the names of Jubilee and Philadelphia. Jubilee is a word that signifies a
special celebration and Philadelphia being

Fashion Styles In The 1920s
Different Styles in the 1920s When it comes to fashion, everyone wants to make for sure that
they have the latest. From hairstyles to clothes, it is important that some people keep up. In the
1920s, keeping up with what is new was important and a must for a lot of people. When you
think of the 20s and fashion, you think of flappers, long dresses, short hair cuts or styles and much
more. Just like women in the 21st century, being pretty starts with what you have on. There are
many people who started many of the styles that made the ordinary woman want to feel like a diva
every time she stepped out. The first style that impressed women in the 1920s was the Flapperstyle.
When this was first introduced to women, mainly younger upper class women, a lot people did
not approve it. These women were the ones who was young vibrant, and daring. So what was the
exact style of the Flapper woman? In the mid 20s, the flapper woman would wear clothes that
would fit looser then the clothes that women wore in the 19th century, their hemlines on their
dresses where a little shorter, they had their arms exposed, and showed a little more of their
cleavage. When this change came along, a lot of people; like preachers, a few men, and even the
older generation of women, did not approve of how women were changing into this New Woman .
They spoke on how short hair would bring on women having side effects such as a moustache,
baldness, or a life eternal spinster, but later short hair became

Li-Ion Batteries
LITERATURE PROJECT CHEM3004
LITHIUM ION BATTERIES
Abstract Technology is striving to keep up with today s society. We continuously require smaller,
lighter and more autonomous equipment. The rechargeable lithium ion battery is the most
important factor in determining the rate of development of modern day consumer electronics.
Perhaps not surprisingly the transport of lithium ions (Li+) remains the preferred technology to
achieve this. As a result and for the purpose of this review, only the Li ion battery (rather than the Li
metal battery) will be considered. This contribution is interested in presenting the issues and
challenges this technology has and will encounter. Given the huge volume of literature published on

In fact, by 2001, the rechargeable lithium ion battery occupied a 63% share in worldwide sales of
all batteries which only re enforces the demand for such a technology1. This illustrates the demand
and the extensive development for such power sources.
Figure 2 illustrates some of the reasons why.
Figure 2: Comparison of the different battery technologies in terms of volumetric and gravimetric
energy density in 2001 (ref 1).
Global warming and the end of fossil fuels looming conspire to present the greatest threat to
today s world. A realistic solution to curb the use of fossil fuels is the use of clean energy sources.
Transportation accounts for 30% of CO2 emissions, it follows then that the use of batteries to
power such fields would be a great benefit to the planet. Already used in consumer electronics such
as laptops and mobile phones, the rechargeable lithium ion battery offers the highest energy storage
per unit weight and volume (Figure 2) and therefore the most appealing for use in applications such
as electric vehicles48.
The rocking chair battery
The rocking chair battery is more commonly known as the rechargeable lithium ion battery. As it
will be described in this report, the materials used to constitute these cells have been extensively
researched and have known many variations and changes over time.

What Is The Relationship Between Coherence And Cohesion
1.Introduction
1.1Overview
A language has four systems which are: vocabulary, grammar, phonology, and discourse. So,
discourse is mainly considered an important system of a language. The term (Discourse) is a
piece of language, weather it is written or spoken, which has a meaning, purpose, and also unity.
and meaning and purpose. More specifically, discourse analysis (DA) is one of the disciplines of
social sciences that based on different sociologisticts approaches. These social disciplines include
many such as: linguistics, sociology, education, cognitive psychology, social psychology, cultural
studies, and communication studies, and translation studies. In addition, discourse analysis aims at

I realized some researchers claimed that there is a close relationship between coherence and
cohesion, whereas others ignored such kind of correlation between coherence and cohesion .
2.2Cohesion VS Coherence On one hand, coherence is considered a very general principle of an
interpretation of language in context. It has a few number of formal linguistic features e.g
vocabulary choice. And the relationships in a coherent text, deals with the text as a whole.
However, coherence focused on semantic relationships at a primary level. On the other hand,
cohesion has many formal linguistic features repetition and reference. And the relationships in a
cohesive text, deals between sentences and also within sentences. Moreover, cohesion is
determined by the relationships which are characterized as overt intersentential in a lexical and
grammatical manner. (Dag, 2014).

Construction Industry Council ( Cic )
Steel has been one of the key materials for a modern society from the past to these days, while its
manufacture is one of the main contributors of carbon emission in the world. In order to drive the
construction industry to apply more sustainable materials, Construction Industry Council (CIC) has
launched a voluntary and Hong Kong based Carbon Labelling Scheme for Construction Materials
covering Cement, Reinforcing Bar, and Structural Steel. Steel, being a very significant material in
building industry in Hong Kong, has a considerable carbon footprint throughout its life cycle.
There are two different routes of steel making, Basic Oxygen Steelmaking (BOS) and Electric Arc
Furnace Steelmaking (EAS).
Basic Oxygen Steelmaking is a primary steelmaking method, in which convert carbon rich
molten pig iron into steel due to oxidizing action. Oxygen was blown into the melt under a basic
slag. It is the most powerful and effective steel making method. The converter used for steel
making is called as Basic Oxygen Furnace. There is about 67% of steel in the world is produced
using Basic Oxygen Steelmaking. The process of Basic Oxygen Steelmaking was developed in
1948 by Robert Durrer and commercialized in 1952 1953 by Austrian VOEST and Г–AMG. The
modern furnace takes a charge of up to 350 tons iron and converts it into steel within 40 minutes.
The advantage of using Basic Oxygen Steelmaking is cost efficient, as it doesn t burn fuel.
However, it requires the separate creation of

Ptsd And Posttraumatic Stress Disorder
PTSD or Posttraumatic Stress Disorder is a growing concern with our returning soldiers. As
technology is advancing, battles are becoming more and more gruesome. The scars from
defending your country are not only physical. Some scars may not be visible, but are even more
dangerous. The trauma imbedded in these men and women s heads will cause pain for them and
their entire family. The dictionary definition of PTSDis a serious condition that can develop after a
person has experienced or witnessed a traumatic or terrifying event in which serious physical harm
occurred or was threatened. It has also been called battle fatigue or shell shock. It may be
everlasting and it is devastating to the person s mental health. Some of the more... Show more

The events seen by these brave people are what cause the terrible side effects. PTSD can be
directly correlated to what is viewed during battle. Fellow soldiers and friends are being brutally
killed. It is expected with war, but it takes a toll on the fighters. Constantly seeing death and
serious injury can leave one scared. The everyday sights for people who serve over seas in places
like Iraq and Afghanistan greatly improve the chances of them having PTSD effects after returning
home. A study was performed on Iraq/Afghanistan soldiers to see the effects of PTSD and how
common it was in these certain employments. The three following questions were looked at as the
main focal points in the research:
(1) How do the rates of PTSD among all active duty enlisted personnel differ by service and
deployment location?
(2) How do deployment location and length of deployment affect the probability of being diagnosed
with PTSD?
(3) Is there an interactive effect between a deployment s length and location? (Shen, Arkes, Kwan,
Tan, Williams, 2010). Previous studies have failed to see the comparison between PTSD rates and
the different services of employment. The research focused on active solders and the duration of
their specific enlistments. Two wars were the focal points of studies, which include Iraq and
Afghanistan. Said by Shen et al. (2010) Recent research suggests that the wars in Afghanistan and
Iraq, also

Turbidity Of Water
Discussion Environmental factors: The mean values of selected analytical water quality
parameters, among the four seasons from April 2015 to February 2016, revealed that generally
most selected physico chemical properties (Temp., pH, E.C., Ak., Turb., T. hard., D.O, B.O.D,
NO3, NO2, NH3, Cl ) of water samples were within permissible limit (WHO 2004). In the current
study, water temperature was the maximum during summer and the minimum was during winter,
where both are within the normal range for growth of aquatic organisms, as the Temp. directly
affected aquatic organisms as well as other physico chemical characteristic (Turker et al. 2003).

2012). The Dissolved oxygen (D.O), the most important abiotic factor influencing any aquatic
ecosystem, obtained from atmosphere and photosynthesis, its depletion is due to manifestation
of pollution, respiration and decomposition of dead decaying sediment (Payakka Prommi 2014).
In this study D.O were within normal range according to WHO (2004), except in summer was
somewhat low. There is evidence that, oxygen concentrations showed a seasonal fluctuation,
agreed with our results, as elevation of water temperature in summer leads to the decrease of the
solubility of oxygen gas (Abdel Hamid et al. 1992, Ueda et al. 2000). Moreover, an inverse
correlation detected in this study between D.O against temperature and pH approved the results
of Popoola Otalekor (2011), where high temperature is positively correlated with increased
respiration (Co2) that lead subsequently to decreased pH and definitely decreasing D.O. The
extreme value of Biological oxygen demand (B.O.D) attained during summer but the least was
during winter, on contradictory to D.O values, confirming negative correlation between them that
consisted in findings of Paparisto et al. (2012). It varied between 1.0 3.0 mg/L and so according
to Vowels Connel (1980) classification of streams based on their B.O.D, confirmed that this stream

Bmw, A Brand Image Of Luxury And Performance
BRAND INVENTORY
According to Interbrand, BMW is the 11th best global brand of 2015, with a brand value estimated
at $37,212 million. Its success can be credit to the high quality of products and service, innovative
engineering technology, and a well constructed marketing strategy that built a brand image of luxury
and performance.
Brand Elements
BMW, abbreviation of Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (Bavarian Motor Works, in English), is a
simple but distinctive brand name. The company s name is meaningful and reinforces an important
attribute of its products: the high quality engine. The shortened form makes the brand name easier
to recall.
The brand logo, known as Roundel, combines a symbol with the company s name. The blue and
white represent the colors of Bavarian flag. The round shape and arrangement of the letters were
inspired by the Rapp logo, the aircraft engine manufacturer that preceded BMW. Thus, the
distinctive logo symbolizes the heritage behind the brand. It has been updated along the years
(1917, 1933, 1953, 1979, and 2000) and the most recent adaption brought a modern aspect to the
logo.
BMW has a memorable and recognizable slogan in the United States: The Ultimate Driving
Machine , which captures the features of luxury and performance in only one product. The 40
years old trademarked slogan is simple, descriptive and represents its positioning. The worldwide
BMW slogan Sheer Driving Pleasure indicates the good experience consumers have when are

Depth Perception Paper
We see things with our eyes through different visual cues this is called Depth Perception . Depth
perception is the use of two different types of visual cues to perceive depth, Binocular cues and
Monocular cues (Department of Psychology,2015). Depth perception lets us view items in three
dimensions and the distance of items. We use several cues to perceive the distance (or depth) of the
objects from us and from each other (Department of Psychology,2015). Goldstein (1984) stated that
Cues for seeing depth come from binocular disparity, and also from a range of monocular cues
such as motion parallax, linear perspective, relative size, interposition, relative height, and texture
gradients. (as cited in Laboratory Manual: Psychology 111/112... Show more content on

Binocular cues are the reason we are able to see things in three dimensions rather than just two.
Binocular cues are what enable us to establish where in space an object sits and its size
compared to our own body. By seeing things through both of your eyes and then conjoining it
your brain is then able to see the world three dimensions. Binocular disparity is there because
since our eyes are a certain distance apart form each other it means that the right eye sees the
world from a marginally different angle the left eye. Binocular disparity allows our eyes to see
the object from different angles so then we can see slightly different parts of the object which
help us to determine its shape and size. Binocular Convergence as Sternberg, R. J. (1998)
explains is because your two eyes are in slightly different places on your head, when you rotate
your eyes so that the image of an object that is in front of you falls directly on each fovea, each eye
must turn inward slightly to registrar the same image. Our brains receive neural information from
the eye muscles about the convergence of the eyes, and they assume that the more the eyes
converge, the close the perceived object must

Reducing the Carbon Footprint
The 7th principle of green chemistry states A raw material or feedstock should be renewable rather
than depleting whenever technically and economically viable. 1 This means making use of easily
available, cheap, and non exhaustive resources like biomass consisting of plant or animal feedstock
and/or carbon dioxideto make platform chemicals and commercially viable products instead of
our conventional non renewable resources like fossil fuels, natural gas, and oil. The rising fuel
and energy demands of an ever growing world population in the last two decades have resulted in
rapid depletion of these non renewable resources. These circumstances have forced us to look at
other possible sources to sustain the chemical, fuel and energy requirements of a growing and
developing planet. Renewable feedstocks can be the answer to this. However the major challenge
/test in this is to develop platform chemicals and materials with pathways employing low energy
consumption processes and which would be less toxic. Another important factor is to have a
process in which the amount of carbon that is incorporated into the system is higher than the
amount that goes out to the environment. This difference is referred to as the carbon footprint and
if positive can help reduce global warming.1 So if these processes used in making new platform
chemicals and materials along with the final chemicals themselves, can contribute to a positive
carbon foot print along with less toxic and harmful effects

Cherokee American Tradition
Trading Our Traditions for Survival Understanding the Tsalagi or Cherokee society with the
responsibilities each gender plays, one must first start from the beginning. Inspired from the
traditions, the creation stories of the Cherokee or Tsalagi people, one can plainly see how each
gender had their role within the matrilineal based tribe. Our base for traditions and culture are
taken from the stories passed down. (Hiseley) The Cherokeetell various creation stories, usually

While retaining many of traditional customs, values, and beliefs, they selectively adopted some of
the ways of life of white Americans. ( Perdue.p30) The European Americans funded both men and
missionaries to both inhabit and indoctrinate Cherokees how to become civilized. There were
gains in acceptance to the white Americans ways of life, such as the learning of a written
language by Sequoyah around the early 1800s, but gains that propelled survival not existence.
Cherokee clans began to consume the poison that would ultimately become an end for their
ancient traditions. Intermarriage was a way of more intimately exposing Cherokees to white ideas
and practices, thereby resulting in more acculturation. (Purdue.p147) This new renaissance also
came with a Trojan horse. Education from missionaries started civil wars within the tribes clans,
while their once maternal way of governing was being up heaved and unraveled for more of a
civilized way of life. Gender roles such as farming and taking care of the house shifted to the man
along with the power they once held. The new council governing further diminished the tribes
women s authority by forcing restricting voting rights to adult males only in 1826. The male only
ran white man government, was far different from the traditional Cherokee governments, which

Decision on the Company s dividends policy will depend on three main factors: * Current financial

distribution) * Industry and main competitors dividends strategies * Types of shareholders and their
goals and expectations from the Company

(See table 3).
In taking decision on the dividends policy management should also take into consideration the
expectations of its shareholders. Champion has three main groups of shareholders: * Seqouia a
private investment firm. It focuses on high risk opportunities with the potential growth in sales,
earnings and cash flows, which would translate into stock appreciation. This group of shareholders
could be interested in long term growth rather then in giving out dividends now.
* Institutional investors (including large Canadian based money managers Retail Investors mainly
interested in capital gains rather then in regular dividends payments.
To conclude, the majority of shareholders would prefer to keep the cash in the company for the
future investments.
Conclusion and Recommendations:
Should Champion declare dividends, and if so how much per share (DPS), and the total ($ amount)?
We would recommend Champion to have a Regular dividend plus extra policy that will enable
them to pay extra dividends in good periods, when profits and cash flow are high and at the same
time follow the competitors.
For 1994, we recommend Champion to have annual regular dividend (based on the industry
average) of $0.42 and amount available for special dividends would be $1,908,600.00 with DPS
$0.17 (see table 1).

Waterstreet The Gin Game Analysis
Acting is all about the movement of your body and your soul. Music, visual and stage arts, all of
these are all able to express deep messages without the use of oral talk. Sign language is the one of a
kind language which uses body motion and facial expressions to communicate with others. These
characteristics are also necessary in successful stage performances, as acting depends greatly on
movement and facial expression. The majority of theatrical productions do indeed depend on
human speech to connect with the crowd; however, the tool of the human body and its native
communication skill is what charms and truly satisfies the audience. Today, many theatrical
productions offer American Sign Language translation during certain performances.... Show more

fully dependent to the rhythm of ASL, and without question, the ASL interpretation was as fluent as
possible. Hearing audiences would sometimes have to sustain fast or meandering speech as it
adjusted itself in a way that will fit the rhythm of the ASL

Characteristics Of The Elizabethan Theatre As Popular...
The Elizabethan Theatre as Popular Entertainment
As you can imagine, life in the 1500s and 1600s in England was very stale, with little things to
entertain the people at the time. There were no cars, no televisions, no movies, no videos games,
nothing of that sort. Majority of people at the time worked for very little pay in very difficult
labor fields for harsh hours and weather every single day with no real escape due to their poverty.
However, there was one place that was dirt cheap that anyone could go to for a good time: The
Globe Theatre. Before the cinematic experiences we have today in our movie theaters were
created, theaters such as the Elizabethan Theater were a popular form of entertainment in
England at the time, mostly due to the cost of attending. One of the main reasons that the theater
was such a popular place among the people was for the plays that were being showed that the
theater at the time. You see, in the Elizabethan era, Elizabethan plays and playwrights were
extremely popular in almost all social classes in society at the time. In fact, many of the plays
that were showed and created during the era are widely famous even to this day, and are still
performed all over the world. Many of the play writers for the theater are widely known to this day
as well, these include: William Shakespeare, Christopher Marlow, Ben Jonson, and many more.
One of the most notable plays that was played in the theater was William Shakespeare s Romeo
and Juliet. At the theater, another reason it was so popular, was due to the fact that the theater
was playing a show almost every single night for the people to come see. However, the plays
were often repeated over and over many times due to the yearn for new plays/variety to perform.
Surprisingly, the people didn t care and some would even go to see the same plays multiple times
due to the lack of other options for entertainment during this period. The next reason that the theater
was such a popular form of entertainment amongst the people, is due to the lack of rules instated
within the theater. The differences between audiences watching a play today are much different
then how they were back then. Nowadays, when you attend a play, everyone is quiet and

The Theory Of Oedipus Complex
Introduction The term Oedipal complex was initially used by Sigmund Freud as he developed a
theory to explain the stages of psychosexual stages of development in an attempt to explain or
describe the boy child feelings of attraction to the mother and anger and envy towards the father
(Fear, 2005). Basically, the boy may feel like he is competing with the father for the belonging
and possession of the mother. The boy sees the father as a threat for her affections, desires and
attentions. In terms of the psychoanalytic theory, Oedipus complex may refer to the desire of a
child to sexual engagement with a parent of opposite sex, specifically the boy s amatory
concentration, attention and attraction to the mother. Freud argues that the complexity of
Oedipus plays an imperative function in the stage of Phallic where a kid undergoes
psychosexual growth. Freud also trusts that if the stage completes successfully and the child
manages to involve himself or herself with a parent of opposite gender ultimately, this
involvement leads to the development of a sexual identity that is mature. As this theory explains,
the boy child admires to seize or possess the mother fully and if possible out do the father, who
this child always sees as a great enemy of the mother s love. The Freud Oedipus complex usually
happens or takes place in the phallic stage of the children between the ages of three to five years,
who at this age undergoes psychosexual development. This stage in the real sense

Surgeons removed seven toothbrushes from a woman s body after she swallowed them half a year
ago when her parents forced her to get married.
The parents of the woman nicknamed Xiao Yun feared that she may never find a husband and
pressured her into marrying so as not to become a leftover woman an embarrassing term often used
to describe single Chinese women over the age of 30.
Despite being only 31, the woman from Ningde City in East China s Fujian Province was set up

Xiao Yun, however, opposed the decision and did not agree to a wedding.

Abstract: It is important to understand the consequences of elevated light on the reproductive
process of kidney beans. The main objective of this research work is to determine how light affects
the seed germination in plants. Through our research we concluded that the seeds that were kept in
dark were more germinated than the ones that were exposed to light. On bases of p value we can
say that there is a significant difference in seed germination in light and dark condition.

Persuasive Essay On Self Defense
Self Defense is widely known as a universal principle that allows a person to protect themselves
under appropriate circumstances; Yet appropriate circumstances goes far beyond its counterparts.
In many cases, victims are accused instead of the violator, even though they intended to rob and/or
murder. Even though many walk away without punishment there are a ton of cases that should not
be overlooked. It sounds as if the definition is plain and simple, but what is the level of force that
goes beyond the sufficient level allowed? Most people tend to think that Self Defense should be
the last resort and should never reach the level of murder, but it should be redefined as a
mechanism acceptable when the victims life is threatened for a reasonable cause, because many are
charged for murder even though the attack was protection from harm.
By reinforcing the government s definition of self defense, citizens would have an easier time
differentiating between a reasonable cause or deadly violence. A reporter from CBS news
speaks of 16 year old Mindy, charged of murder, Her defense hinged on the claim that the
physical and emotional abuse she says she suffered at the hands of her father left her in such
terror of him that one look from him that night sent her over the edge . In this case, A daughter of

Franco Zefferelli s Romeo and Juliet and Baz Luhrmann s...
The astounding perils of young love has been eloquently captured in the story of Romeo and
Juliet. Franco Zefferelli and Baz Luhrmann are the creators of the two most renowned film
adaptations of William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet. Zefferelli, the more traditional director,
created his Oscar winning version in 1968. Baz Luhrmann put an abstract, modern twist on
Shakespeare s classic and created the 1996 version that raised millions of dollars in box office
sales. Being that these two films are so different, I have chosen to compare them to one another,
using the famed balcony sceneas my focus.
In the Franco Zefferelli adaptation, proceeding the extravagant Capulet party, Romeo walks down a
dark stone path alone with his very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She vocalizes her love and adoration for Romeo, not knowing that every word she speaks falls
upon his ears. Unable to contain his elation about what he has just heard, Romeo leaps from the
darkness below the balcony, abruptly startling Juliet. She retreats towards the doorway of her
room, feeling violated and unsure about Romeo s presence. She appears angry because of their
families hatred towards eachother. The interaction between them is forbidden, so she turns towards
the her room, ready to leave, until she is halted by Romeo s confession. If given the opportunity, he
would choose to deny the Montague name so that he may share his life with her. Surprised, Juliet
returns to where Romeo awaits her.
During this scene, the soft light continually falls upon Juliet s angelic face, yet Romeo
predominantly remains in the darkness, shadowed. This may reference the goodness of the
Capulets and the supposed evilness of the Montagues from Juliet s standpoint. The camera is also
pointed up during this scene when directed towards Juliet, yet pointed down when directed towards
Romeo. Zefferelli may have used these camera angles to show that Juliet is considered someone
Romeo admires although he is considered a lesser man by the Capulet family.
As the scene continues, Juliet explains to Romeo the consequences of them being caught together,
and as she sadly and amorously gazes at him, he hides behind a tree branch to protect himself.

Case Study 2 Will the steel companies develop global strategies?
Questions
1.
In the 20 years to 2000, the world s 40 largest steel companies made cumulative losses before tax
of US$10 billion, in spite of investing around US$75 billion in new capital equipment. In the
following five years, profitability increased but the return on capital was still low (...) . What
were the reasons for this trend? The first factor that I will appoint is a political/legal issue,
according to PESTLE analysis, and consists in the fact of some of the steel companies were
subsidised by their respective governments, which are not worried about making profits. Besides
this, individual nations or groups of nations had set up trade barriers to ... Show more content on

Finally, I could also mention that this was a value destroying industry, since the cost pressure was
high but with the lower prices of steel, the companies had difficulties to pass the impact of the costs
to the customers. So, from my perspective, these are the main trends in the strategic environment
that have influenced steel company profits over the past few years. Nevertheless, the fact that most
steel companies operate largely within their national or regional markets, adapting their strategies
only to them, was, obviously, the primary aspect that contributed for the worsening of the situation.

Eating Disorders As A Female Disorder
ABSTRACT
Eating disorders are one of the most prevalent mental disorders in the United States. Although this
disease is typically viewed as a female disorder, males are greatly affected and may go
undiagnosed and untreated due to the attached stigma. Thus, it is important to understand the risk
factors associated with the development of eating disorders in males. These risk factors include:
athletic involvement, sexual orientation, pre morbid obesity, and adverse childhood experiences.
Eating disorder type and symptom presentation also varies between males and females. Males
typically do not meet the criteria to be categorized as Anorexia Nervosa or Bulimia Nervosa,
causing their condition to be classified as Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified. Symptom
presentation is likely to include binge eating and excessive exercise rather than restrictive eating,
purging, or other compensatory methods commonly seen in the female population. Several eating
disorder assessments are available for use in clinical practice, most of which have been geared
toward the female gender. New assessments, such as the Eating Disorder Assessment for Males,
have been developed recently to try to hone in on the typical male symptomatology and their
psychological processes. Prompt treatment of eating disorders, regardless of gender, is necessary to
prevent the development of medical and psychological comorbidities. This process cannot begin
until the diagnosis has been made; therefore, additional

Nietzsche Said Whoever Fights Monsters Should See To It
Nietzsche said Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become

The Industrial Leaders of the 19th Century Should be Admired for their Work
The industrial leaders, Robber Barons, of the 19th century are men who are very respected and
admired. Andrew Carnegie was a boy from Scotland who came over to this country with nothing.
He continued to save and work his way up in the industry until he had complete control over the
steel industry. John D. Rockefeller was also one who came from an ordinary home. When he saw
an opportunity, he took it, along with the risks. He came to control the oil industry. Another man
that took many opportunities to expand and grow was Cornelius Vanderbilt. These men saw what

He sold the company to J. P. Morgan, for which he personally received $250 million of the $492
million Morgan paid for it. He supported and began many corporations and institutions. Many
positive establishments were created only because of his generous donations. To this day many
people are still benefiting from the large Carnegie fortune. Cornelius Vanderbilt was the most
powerful railroad baron. He earned a fortune for himself in the steamship line. He also combined
the New York and Harlem and New York and Hudson estate ferry boat operations. He established
a connection between New York and Albany to make Lake Shore and Michigan Southern link
Buffalo with Chicago. When he died he owned and operated nearly 4500 miles of track between
New York City and most of the important cities in the Midwest. He left his fortune to his son,
unlike the others he did not donate to many organizations. The only contribution he gave was to
support the, now, Vanderbilt College.
John D. Rockefeller also started at humble beginnings. By taking risks and investing he found
himself engulfed in the rapidly expanding oil industry. Not yet in the business directly he started his
own company, The Standard Oil Company of Cleveland. Rockefeller s stake in the oil industry
increased as the industry itself expanded caused by the rapidly spreading use of kerosene. The

Guidelines For Taxonomy And Phylogenetic Terminology
Citation MLA
Zachos, Frank E. Tree Thinking and Species Delimitation: Guidelines for Taxonomy and
Phylogenetic Terminology. Mammalian Biology 81.2 (2015): 185 88. Web.
In your own words, what was the main focus of the article? There are multiple interpretations
concerning how phylogenetic trees are built and the understanding of the phylogenetic species
concept. A common mistake when it comes to interpreting phylogenetic trees, which portray
evolutionary relationships among taxa. Generally it is viewed as a ladder of progress, yet it is
not so simple and is often the most relevant error to occur among reports. Species delimitation
additionally plays a similar role in this article, in that it is misused when providing evidence of
species being divided; however, it is much harder to understand the varying outlooks. Overall, the
article focused on these mistakes un order to provide practical guidelines for phylogenetic and
taxonomic papers.
In your opinion, which was the importance of Figure 1? Explain why. Figure one is a correct
representation of a phylogenetic tree. It is important to the article due to the fact that it is a visual
that can be understood and compared to. The article focuses on the fact that phylogenetic trees
are generally incorrect due to a wrong impression. For example, not at any time will a tree be read
from left to right since there is no difference in whether a taxa is drawn on the left or the right side
of the tree. The only important

Deadly Debris Humans tend to think of space as infinite, that is true as far as we can tell,
however the space around Earth is not infinite. After the Space race began in the late 1950 s
countries began sending satellites into space for various purposes. Today these Satellites are
very important to everyday life, but there is a looming problem that has often been overlooked.
Low Earth orbit, where most satellites and spacecraft are located is filled with the remains of
many old and decaying satellites. Space debris is very dangerous for any human or structure in
space and could eventually make low Earth orbit too hazardous to ever use again. The Sci Fi
paper I am currently working on is a story about a group of astronauts in the near future who are
returning from mining an asteroid. In this story it is much like the moon landings in that people
were very intrigued at first but have lost interest now. These are just routine missions that hardly
anyone knows or cares about. This all changes however when two satellites in high orbit on Earth
collide, one being a communication satellite with the astronauts. The unaware astronauts, now
returning to Earth, have no idea what is hurtling toward them at 15,000 miles an hour. NASA is
unable to reestablish communication quickly enough and the craft is hit. Now adrift in space the
astronauts struggle to survive in the most hostile environment for humans. There are over five

Comparing Culture In Where Worlds Collide And Indian Father s
Culture in definition is: the beliefs, customs, arts, etc., of a particular society, group, place, or time
(Merriam Webster s Learner s Dictionary). Thus, based on these certain beliefs, customs, traditions,
and arts, a person s thoughts, ideas, and views can be greatly affected since they lived with a

The Best Education System Is Improving The Progression Of...
Education, according Merriam Webster s dictionary, means the knowledge, skill and understanding
that you get from attending a school, college, or university. Furthermore, Education in its simplest,
teaches us to become more productive citizens while simultaneously opening magical doors for
aspiring pupils to explore. As the late Martin Luther King aptly put it, Intelligence plus character
that is the goal of true education. The key to having the best education system is constantly moving
forward with legislation and initiatives. Subsequently, state legislatures and schooldistricts pass
initiative plans in hopes of promoting the progression of a child s education. However, the
complexity and inefficiency of the total U.S. system can lead to bright children being left behind.
The task of running the education behemoth is largely left up to the 50 states. All of the states,
excluding Hawaii, have a common hierarchical structure (highest to lowest): state legislatures, state
departments of education/boards of education, state commissioners, school districts/boards, and
school superintendents. Traditionally, state control over education was vested in state boards of
education. These boards formally have the power to decide everything from teacher certification to
textbook selection. However, in practice these boards rely heavily on the recommendations of the
state commissioner of education and the state department of education. All states have a C.E.O.

Drugs And Drug Development Journey
The unlikely route from inflammation to antipsychotics
The drug development journey leading to olanzapine (Zyprexa) reaching the market did not
always follow the steps of rational drug design. Inspired by the first antipsychotic drugs, it took
a while from the first discovery of antipsychotic drugs until Zyprexa was developed. The first
antipsychotics were come across largely by chance. They were not specifically tailored to a
relevant biological effector as rational drug design promotes. Even now as most drugs, Zyprexa is
not quite perfect, it is accused of side effects such as weight gain and diabetes. But it has proven to
be a potent medication for the treatment of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and today is also widely
used for the treatment of depression (Perlmultter. 2014).
The story of this drug begins in the streets of Paris (and Lyon) in the 1930s, where the pharma
company Laboratoires RhГґne Poulenc (today Sanofi) noticed that the drugs they were developing
as antihistamines also demonstrated relaxant and sedative effects (Shen ,1999; Healy, 2004). Their
observations and research eventually lead to the synthesis of chlorpromazine in 1950, the first drug
with specific antipsychotic action (Yuhas, 2013).
Chlorpromazine was the first so called typical/first generation antipsychotic drug, introduced to the
market in 1952. The discovery of chlorpromazine is still considered one of the greatest
breakthroughs in psychiatric care, and was the first drug in its class

electronics. The coils are activated, one phase after the other, by the drive electronics as cued by
the signals from the Hall effect sensors, they act as three phase synchronous motors containing their
own variable frequency drive electronics. A simplified current controlled modulation technique for
BLDC motors is presented. The advantages of this strategy are: 1. Very simple control scheme. 2.
Phase currents are kept balanced. 3. The current is controlled through only one DC component 1.1

In an outer rotor style, the windings are situated within the core of the motor. The rotor magnets
surround the stator coil windings as shown here. The rotor magnets act as an dielectric, thereby
reducing the speed of heat dissipation from the motor. Because of the situation of the stator coil
windings, outer rotor styles usually operate at lower duty cycles or at a lower rated current. The
first advantage of an outer rotor BLDC motor is comparatively low cogging force. In an inner
rotor style, the stator coil windings surround the rotor and are mounted to the motor s housing as
shown here. The first advantage of an inner rotor construction is its ability to dissipate heat. A
motor s ability to dissipate heat directly impacts its ability to provide force. For this reason, the
overwhelming majority of BLDC motors use an inner rotor style. Another advantage of an inner
rotor style is lower rotor inertia. Advantages: High Speed Operation A BLDC motor can operate at
speeds approximately ten thousand revolutions per minute under loaded and unloaded conditions.
Responsiveness Inner rotor Brushless DC motors have low rotor inertia, allowing them to
accelerate, decelerate, and reverse direction

Walmart De Mexico Essays
Wal Mart de Mexico Comercial Mexicana S.A. (Comerci), one of Mexico s largest retail chains,
was faced with a serious dilemma. Since Wal Mart s aggressive entry into the Mexican retail
market, Comerci has found it increasingly difficult to remain competitive. Wal Mart s strong
operating presence and low prices since NAFTA s lifting of tariffs have put pressure on Comerci,
and now management must decide if it can improve Comerci s competitive position by remaining
independent or by merging with either a local or foreign retailer. Which raises one question that
needs to be answered: What has caused this intense competitive pressure on Comerci, and what is
likely to be its future? Mexico s retail sector has benefited greatly from the... Show more content on

The company has expanded into internationally to nine countries through new store construction
and acquisitions. Today Wal Mart International employs more than 330,000 associates in
Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, Korea, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the United
Kingdom. Wal Mart s operations in Canada, the United States and Mexico s partners in NAFTA,
began in 1994 with acquisition of 122 Woolco stores. It now has 196 stores and has strong
partnerships with Canadian suppliers. With growth stalling in the United States Wal Mart is
looking to international expansion for growth in fiscal 2002, the international division
increased sales by 10.5 percent to $35.4 billion and operating profit increased 31.1 percent to
$1.4 billion. The division accounts for 17 percent of sales and 11 percent of profits. Most
forecaster believe Wal Mart s growth outside the United States will grow by an average of 26
percent for the foreseeable future. Wal Mart s success internationally has varied by country.
Although successful in countries like Mexico and Canada, where it has become the largest retailer,
it has yet to prove itself in Germany and Argentina. It is learning from its past mistakes, and it is
now adapting much better to local cultures and learning from partnerships formed in each country.

Descriptive Essay On A Morning Run
This morning I woke up to do my morning run. I thought I would take a route through the woods
instead of the sidewalk. As I was running through the woods, I saw how gorgeous the forest
really is. The wind in my blonde curly hair, rain drops dripping off the bright green leaves onto
me it cooled me off. I sat down on a rock to take a break and I noticed a weird looking bush that
didn t have thorns or anything growing around it. It looked like a door.... As I get up to walk
over to the dark green door that blended in with the leaves. I touch the small handle and open the
door up slowly, there is a bright orange path. I stepped onto the path and the door shut quickly
behind me. As I walked along the path I saw a shiny silver key. As I picked the keyup I noticed that
it was a skeleton key! Although it was strange because it looked brand new. I decided to keep the
key in my pocket and to keep walking.. As I got further along in the path I saw something else. As
I got closer to the object I noticed that it was shiny as well. I realized that it was a shiny golden
cup made of glass. It was absolutely gorgeous, it had a E on the side. The cup had no marks,
scratches, or anything. First I find a key now a cup! I picked the cup up very carefully and
decided to keep walking.... I walked and walked, I finally came upon a huge mud puddle that
covered a portion of the path. I couldn t walk around it. Or through it. So maybe I can swing on the

The Renaissance Era
The Renaissance Era took place for a time period that lasted for approximately 150 years and
during that time significant changes took place. These changes were with the Arts, Literature,
Fashion, and ideals. The entire age can be subdivided into three phases: from 1350 to 1400 during
which discovery of ancient texts and experimentation with new art forms took place; 1400 to 1500
typified by political stability in the Italian city states and the creation of recognizable cultural; and
1500 to 1550 dominated by foreign invasion and the diffusion of the Italian Renaissanceto the rest
of western Europe ( Renaissance Society ). The birth of the Renaissance took place in Italyafter the
most destructive plagues that caused enormous loss of life and this was the Black Plague (Life
in Italy). The plague was a tragic time which killed so many people and was difficult to survive.
Despite the plague, the quality of life for surviving citizens of the Renaissance may have
improved ( Renaissance Society ). Life was still considered hard in those times. Children were
vulnerable to death and diseases and not many survived into adulthood ( Daily Life ). Those that
were born into wealthy families had a better chance of survival. At that time, children were to act
like their parents and they had no rights ( Daily Life ). Within the Renaissance period the general
attitude towards children began to change. These attitude adjustments can be seen with the changes

Types And Differences Between Universal Studio And Nintendo
Types of Innovation Universal Studio and Nintendo are two giants in the entertainment industry.
Universal already has many theme parks. But a partnership with Nintendo will increase their
offerings and improve value. This is a profit model innovation since fans of Nintendo games will
have the added experience of the fun, whimsy and adventure of the video games as they come to
life. Nintendo will turn the value of their video games, in partnership with the Universal s creative
depiction of characters, their stories and technology, and be able to make a profit. Additionally, the

Some of the strategies that can be applied include inviting all stakeholders to join the quest for
new ideas, involving the theme park customers in the exercise of generating new ideas,
involving suppliers and benchmarking the methods of idea creation. First, the appreciation of
various stakeholders in the idea generating process will mean that the company has to empower
its employees. Employees will act as the link between the end consumer and the internal
organizational operations. The management will have to rely on the advice given by their lower
level employees who frequently engage with the customers. The top management should not
participate in new product developments unless they are part of the customer interaction team.
Seeking ideas from customers is better than brainstorming sessions. Nintendo and Universal
could develop focus groups or groups of advisory boards formed by key customers. These key
customers could be a demographic of individuals who buy latest product offerings or are a loyal
fan base. Additionally, vendors are key since the company too is a customer to the supplier and
they can offer a different perspective. It ensures that the chain is complete and the supplier would
feel like part of the business success story (Tucker,

My Experience In Life
There are many moments in an individual s life where they succeed and learn dramatically from
their experience. It could be mentally, physically, or lead them to a higher self esteem and self
confidence. It could be the littlest success such as making a pancake, but it can have so much
impact on a persons selfworth. Success can have many different definitions depending on who
you ask usually, but at the end of the day, it s usually improving either as an individual or at a
certain task. To begin with, I believe if you put your mind into something, you can do anything.
Growing up, my family has always had high expectations for me and I ve always felt very
determined despite the pressure. Last year, I had to take the class precalculus which to some
people it may come as a very easy or hard thing to take. It was a very new type of class, and
honestly I was taken out of my study comfort zone because it did require a large amount of hours
and work. I would sacrifice so much time such as socializing with my friends and family, to be
the best I could possibly be, and I learned so many study habits I did not have before the class. I
consider taking the class, success as a learner because it was a very impacting and eye opening
experience that will come very useful to me in the future. Furthermore, being a Latina, I am trying
my hardest to achieve the best grades possible to beat statistics and graduate college. In fact, I am

Two main approaches:   Start ups used low price models to establish customer base Existing
firms transferred existing prices to the web
Customers have focus on price and often use price comparison engines kelkoo, pricerunner, and the

However, only 8% are aggressive price shoppers!

The internet has large implications on place mainly because of global reach. This can lead to
channel conflicts: A communication channel only
  Particularly when manufacturers offer an exclusive, or highly selective distribution
approach; e.g., Rolex watches The choice of distribution channel may dilute brand image
A distribution channel to intermediaries A direct sales channel to customers
   May not be appropriate when prices vary geographical areas; no existing contracts

Any combination of the above

How Does Ray Bradbury Use Light And Dark In Fahrenheit 451
Title
In Ray Bradbury s Fahrenheit 451, he uses light and dark as contrasts is used as a motif to help
further develop differences between people in society through characterization and plot. Light
symbolizes knowledge and purity; on the other hand, darkness shows ignorance in the society,
while also being a form of safety. Bradbury uses light versus dark to compare purity and ignorance
through characterization. Before Montag found the value behind books, he would come home
from his job of burning books. The first night of meeting Clarisse while walking home from work,
he describes her face as a fragile milk crystal with a soft and constant light in it. It was not a

Punishment That Befits The Sin Essay

Punishment that Befits the Sin
Dante s Inferno originally named The Divine Comedy or in modern Italian The Commedia ,
follows the contemporary Christian ethos by showing how the consequences of man are equal to
their sins; passed upon them in death. The physical sins that man does on earth if not repented of,
will then become their eternal consequence in Hell. Dante shows us in his travels through the
circles of hell how this suffering is the direct and equal result of their earthly sins. The sins of the
cowardice, the lustful, gluttonous, greedy, angry, heretical, violent, fraudulent and treacherous have
their bodies in constant pain equivalent of the actions of their human bodies on earth. The thesis of
this paper is to show how physical pain enacted upon corporeal bodies in hell, are the logical
consequence of sin on earth. I will show this by citing examples of sinners featured in The inferno
that are tortured for the sins in their respective layer of hell. The Inferno is based directly upon
Dante s devout catholic nature. The inferno is mixed with the bible, roman Catholicism, mythology
and medieval tradition with a direct influence of 14th century roman Catholicism. The passage
concerning purgatory is a direct indoctrination from roman Catholicism and is not found anywhere
in the bible. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches:
All who die in God s grace, but still imperfectly purified,

As for me, I am more a free spirited person. I don t look for religion to be in public schools.
Religion is more towards private schools. In the video, it talks about religion, copyrighted laws,
teacher liability, and child abuse. While watching this video, I don t think any of this will affect
me when it comes to teaching. I agree as a teacher it is your responsibility when the kids are
under your supervision. When a child gets hurt, you are the one to get the blame because those
kids are your responsibility. I think it s best for a teacher to help those students who are being

As for a future teacher, I would have to disagree with the school s administrators on religion being
in public schools. When I teach my students, I would only teach them to learn and know the
truth. I m not religious; everyone has a different religion. I would teach my students the truth
and what I believe they should be aware not based on what they need to know from a biblical
perspective. I m all for a school to teach religious freedom and acceptance of all religious beliefs,
but teach religion in public school is not acceptable. If this was a Christian school or Islamic
school, that is an entirely normal thing to teach religion. I don t believe that public schools
should oppress kids with religion. Especially children that don t understand the religion and
conform just because others show their belief. Everyone should have the choice. Private schools,
on the other hand, it is up to the school. Agree or disagree doesn t matter to me. I think it s okay
to teach about other religions, but not necessarily to prepare them to become part of the faith.
Like if they want to do more research and become a member of that faith, cool, I don t want to
force them one way or another. But I still think it s an important part of history, and an important
step in breeding tolerance, to make students aware of the basics and their options I guess. Teach

Makro, a whole sale retail outlet holds 16% of the market share (Jitpleecheep, 2014: Appendix B).
The retail industry of Thailand accounts up to 1.4 trillion baht, which is close to 27 billion pounds.
40% of 1.4 trillion baht is from the modern trade which incorporates the major hypermarkets and
their online shopping websites (Appendix C). It is expected that over time, the market of the retail
industry is to grow by 3% to 5% each year, thereby a consistent competition is expected for Tesco
Lotus and Big C super centres. In terms of online market, the global online grocery sales
accounted for only 4% of all food retailers (Mintel, 2014; Appendix D). The internet has indeed

My Philosophy of Teaching Essay
My Philosophy of Teaching
Education is an important aspect in the lives of all individuals. From the day we are born until the
day we die, we are constantly learning. At a very young age, children begin attending school.
Throughout their educational career, children have many different teachers who hold many different
views, beliefs, and values. Methods of instruction, personalities, and classroom interaction are all
unique to the teacher. Some teachers may come in each day just because it s their job, and they
need the paycheck. Yet, the ones who are there for the success of their students are the ones who
truly make a difference.

Teachers should pass this enthusiasm onto their students and gain their interest in the subject.
Children need teachers who care about them, teachers who love them. When a student knows you
care, they are more likely to succeed.
Teachers should have confidence in their students. They should set high expectations for all
students, and then give them the support and encouragement they need to obtain those
expectations. Teachers should praise students. They need to create a comfortable learning
environment where students can make mistakes. Mistakes are a part of learning. As a child my
mother always told me, Practice makes perfect and If at first you don t succeed, try, try again. At
times, students may become frustrated. Teachers need to encourage their students and give them
positive reinforcement. They should help their students to never give up.
At times, even the best teachers may not be coming through to their students. What may seem like
the perfect lesson plan for one class may not be such a success in another. Yet good teachers have
the ability to recognize this. They monitor and adjust. Teachers need to observe their students to see
if the lesson is coming through to them. If it is not, the teacher should not give up and move on to
new material. They need to adjust, and reteach the lesson in a way that will come though to the

Future of IoT
IoT is quickly becoming the new reality all around the world. The creation of IoT devices are
expected to triple in the next few years (Rossolillo 2016). The IoT appliances include everything
from autonomous cars to smart tattoos. As the gadgets change the technology and platforms used
disseminate the information will also change and become more refined through Narrowband IoT.
The future of the internet of things is expected to bring significant improvement to individual lives,
corporations, and the global gross domestic product (GDP).
Trajectory of the internet Things
Since the beginning of time humans have created and made innovative products that push the
boundaries of evolution and are at the edge of technology. As a society we have paraded around
many of the technologies to improve our lives as well as our family s lives. Despite this the
problem that many companies are having today in selling their products is the consumer is asking:
Why do I need this? Companies that carry luxury and expensive products are now looking to take
luxury products and make them everyday products (Klein 2016).
Apple watch is a prime example of an IoT product and spin off product not faring the best in the

Construction Industry Council ( Cic ) Steel has been one of the key materials for a modern society from the past to these days, while its manufacture is one of the main contributors of carbon emission in the world. In order to drive the construction industry to apply more sustainable materials, Construction Industry Council (CIC) has launched a voluntary and Hong Kong based Carbon Labelling Scheme for Construction Materials covering Cement, Reinforcing Bar, and Structural Steel. (2) How do deployment location and length of deployment affect the probability of being diagnosed with PTSD? (3) Is there an interactive effect between a deployment s length and location? (Shen, Arkes, Kwan, Tan, Williams, 2010). Previous studies have failed to see the comparison between PTSD rates and the different services of employment. Turbidity Of Water Discussion Environmental factors: The mean values of selected analytical water quality parameters, among the four seasons from April 2015 to February 2016, revealed that generally most selected physico chemical properties (Temp., pH, E.C., Ak., Turb., T. hard., D.O, B.O.D, NO3, NO2, NH3, Cl ) of water samples were within permissible limit (WHO 2004). In the current study, water temperature was the maximum during summer and the minimum was during winter, where both are within the normal range for growth of aquatic organisms, as the Temp. directly affected aquatic organisms as well as other physico chemical characteristic (Turker et al. 2003). The Dissolved oxygen (D.O), the most important abiotic factor influencing any aquatic ecosystem, obtained from atmosphere and photosynthesis, its depletion is due to manifestation of pollution, respiration and decomposition of dead decaying sediment (Payakka Prommi 2014). In this study D.O were within normal range according to WHO (2004), except in summer was somewhat low. There is evidence that, oxygen concentrations showed a seasonal fluctuation, agreed with our results, as elevation of water temperature in summer leads to the decrease of the solubility of oxygen gas (Abdel Hamid et al. 1992, Ueda et al. 2000). Moreover, an inverse correlation detected in this study between D.O against temperature and pH approved the results of Popoola Otalekor (2011), where high temperature is positively correlated with increased respiration (Co2) that lead subsequently to decreased pH and definitely decreasing D.O. The extreme value of Biological oxygen demand (B.O.D) attained during summer but the least was during winter, on contradictory to D.O values, confirming negative correlation between them that consisted in findings of Paparisto et al. Depth perception is the use of two different types of visual cues to perceive depth, Binocular cues and Monocular cues (Department of Psychology,2015). Depth perception lets us view items in three dimensions and the distance of items. We use several cues to perceive the distance (or depth) of the objects from us and from each other (Department of Psychology,2015). Goldstein (1984) stated that Cues for seeing depth come from binocular disparity, and also from a range of monocular cues such as motion parallax, linear perspective, relative size, interposition, relative height, and texture gradients. (as cited in Laboratory Manual: Psychology 111/112... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Binocular cues are the reason we are able to see things in three dimensions rather than just two. Binocular cues are what enable us to establish where in space an object sits and its size compared to our own body. By seeing things through both of your eyes and then conjoining it your brain is then able to see the world three dimensions. Binocular disparity is there because since our eyes are a certain distance apart form each other it means that the right eye sees the world from a marginally different angle the left eye. Binocular disparity allows our eyes to see the object from different angles so then we can see slightly different parts of the object which help us to determine its shape and size. Binocular Convergence as Sternberg, R. J. (1998) explains is because your two eyes are in slightly different places on your head, when you rotate your eyes so that the image of an object that is in front of you falls directly on each fovea, each eye must turn inward slightly to registrar the same image. Our brains receive neural information from the eye muscles about the convergence of the eyes, and they assume that the more the eyes converge, the close the perceived object must ... • 15. Reducing the Carbon Footprint The 7th principle of green chemistry states A raw material or feedstock should be renewable rather than depleting whenever technically and economically viable. 1 This means making use of easily available, cheap, and non exhaustive resources like biomass consisting of plant or animal feedstock and/or carbon dioxideto make platform chemicals and commercially viable products instead of our conventional non renewable resources like fossil fuels, natural gas, and oil. The rising fuel and energy demands of an ever growing world population in the last two decades have resulted in rapid depletion of these non renewable resources. These circumstances have forced us to look at other possible sources to sustain the chemical, fuel and energy requirements of a growing and developing planet. Renewable feedstocks can be the answer to this. However the major challenge /test in this is to develop platform chemicals and materials with pathways employing low energy consumption processes and which would be less toxic. Another important factor is to have a process in which the amount of carbon that is incorporated into the system is higher than the amount that goes out to the environment. This difference is referred to as the carbon footprint and if positive can help reduce global warming.1 So if these processes used in making new platform chemicals and materials along with the final chemicals themselves, can contribute to a positive carbon foot print along with less toxic and harmful effects ... Cherokee clans began to consume the poison that would ultimately become an end for their ancient traditions. Intermarriage was a way of more intimately exposing Cherokees to white ideas and practices, thereby resulting in more acculturation. (Purdue.p147) This new renaissance also came with a Trojan horse. Education from missionaries started civil wars within the tribes clans, while their once maternal way of governing was being up heaved and unraveled for more of a civilized way of life. • 23. Characteristics Of The Elizabethan Theatre As Popular... The Elizabethan Theatre as Popular Entertainment As you can imagine, life in the 1500s and 1600s in England was very stale, with little things to entertain the people at the time. There were no cars, no televisions, no movies, no videos games, nothing of that sort. Majority of people at the time worked for very little pay in very difficult labor fields for harsh hours and weather every single day with no real escape due to their poverty. However, there was one place that was dirt cheap that anyone could go to for a good time: The Globe Theatre. Before the cinematic experiences we have today in our movie theaters were created, theaters such as the Elizabethan Theater were a popular form of entertainment in England at the time, mostly due to the cost of attending. One of the main reasons that the theater was such a popular place among the people was for the plays that were being showed that the theater at the time. You see, in the Elizabethan era, Elizabethan plays and playwrights were extremely popular in almost all social classes in society at the time. In fact, many of the plays that were showed and created during the era are widely famous even to this day, and are still performed all over the world. Many of the play writers for the theater are widely known to this day as well, these include: William Shakespeare, Christopher Marlow, Ben Jonson, and many more. One of the most notable plays that was played in the theater was William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet. At the theater, another reason it was so popular, was due to the fact that the theater was playing a show almost every single night for the people to come see. However, the plays were often repeated over and over many times due to the yearn for new plays/variety to perform. Surprisingly, the people didn t care and some would even go to see the same plays multiple times due to the lack of other options for entertainment during this period. The next reason that the theater was such a popular form of entertainment amongst the people, is due to the lack of rules instated within the theater. The differences between audiences watching a play today are much different then how they were back then. Nowadays, when you attend a play, everyone is quiet and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. The Theory Of Oedipus Complex Introduction The term Oedipal complex was initially used by Sigmund Freud as he developed a theory to explain the stages of psychosexual stages of development in an attempt to explain or describe the boy child feelings of attraction to the mother and anger and envy towards the father (Fear, 2005). Basically, the boy may feel like he is competing with the father for the belonging and possession of the mother. The boy sees the father as a threat for her affections, desires and attentions. In terms of the psychoanalytic theory, Oedipus complex may refer to the desire of a child to sexual engagement with a parent of opposite sex, specifically the boy s amatory concentration, attention and attraction to the mother. Freud argues that the complexity of Oedipus plays an imperative function in the stage of Phallic where a kid undergoes psychosexual growth. Freud also trusts that if the stage completes successfully and the child manages to involve himself or herself with a parent of opposite gender ultimately, this involvement leads to the development of a sexual identity that is mature. As this theory explains, the boy child admires to seize or possess the mother fully and if possible out do the father, who this child always sees as a great enemy of the mother s love. The Freud Oedipus complex usually happens or takes place in the phallic stage of the children between the ages of three to five years, who at this age undergoes psychosexual development. Even though many walk away without punishment there are a ton of cases that should not be overlooked. These risk factors include: athletic involvement, sexual orientation, pre morbid obesity, and adverse childhood experiences. The pious and godly man that was Ambrosio tries to make excuses for his behavior and pawns his guilt and judgement onto others. Soon every thought Ambrosio has is not that of a pious man, working for his Lord, but that of a man growing increasingly impatient for his wants; Antonia a young and innocent girl is the first on his list. Accordingly, he faults Elvira for requiring him to sneak into Antonia s room to defile her, as Elvira has banished him from her home, for his mistreatment of her daughter, Antonia. Therefore, Dr. Jekyll and Ambrosio have very similar ideals about morality. Both seem to think that if no one perceives them as the guilty party, they are free to do as they please, while keeping their consciences clean. Ambrose uses magic to sneak around to defile Antonia secretly and Dr. Jekyll uses science to create an alternate persona to do as he wishes (Stevenson 86). To this day many people are still benefiting from the large Carnegie fortune. Cornelius Vanderbilt was the most powerful railroad baron. He earned a fortune for himself in the steamship line. He also combined the New York and Harlem and New York and Hudson estate ferry boat operations. He established a connection between New York and Albany to make Lake Shore and Michigan Southern link Buffalo with Chicago. When he died he owned and operated nearly 4500 miles of track between New York City and most of the important cities in the Midwest. He left his fortune to his son, unlike the others he did not donate to many organizations. The only contribution he gave was to support the, now, Vanderbilt College. John D. Not yet in the business directly he started his own company, The Standard Oil Company of Cleveland. Mammalian Biology 81.2 (2015): 185 88. Web. In your own words, what was the main focus of the article? There are multiple interpretations concerning how phylogenetic trees are built and the understanding of the phylogenetic species concept. A common mistake when it comes to interpreting phylogenetic trees, which portray evolutionary relationships among taxa. Generally it is viewed as a ladder of progress, yet it is not so simple and is often the most relevant error to occur among reports. Species delimitation additionally plays a similar role in this article, in that it is misused when providing evidence of species being divided; however, it is much harder to understand the varying outlooks. Overall, the article focused on these mistakes un order to provide practical guidelines for phylogenetic and taxonomic papers. In your opinion, which was the importance of Figure 1? Explain why. Figure one is a correct representation of a phylogenetic tree. It is important to the article due to the fact that it is a visual that can be understood and compared to. The article focuses on the fact that phylogenetic trees are generally incorrect due to a wrong impression. For example, not at any time will a tree be read from left to right since there is no difference in whether a taxa is drawn on the left or the right side of the tree. The only important ... After the Space race began in the late 1950 s countries began sending satellites into space for various purposes. Today these Satellites are very important to everyday life, but there is a looming problem that has often been overlooked. Low Earth orbit, where most satellites and spacecraft are located is filled with the remains of many old and decaying satellites. Space debris is very dangerous for any human or structure in space and could eventually make low Earth orbit too hazardous to ever use again. The Sci Fi paper I am currently working on is a story about a group of astronauts in the near future who are returning from mining an asteroid. In this story it is much like the moon landings in that people were very intrigued at first but have lost interest now. These are just routine missions that hardly anyone knows or cares about. This all changes however when two satellites in high orbit on Earth collide, one being a communication satellite with the astronauts. The unaware astronauts, now returning to Earth, have no idea what is hurtling toward them at 15,000 miles an hour. NASA is unable to reestablish communication quickly enough and the craft is hit. Now adrift in space the astronauts struggle to survive in the most hostile environment for humans. There are over five hundred ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Education, according Merriam Webster s dictionary, means the knowledge, skill and understanding that you get from attending a school, college, or university. Furthermore, Education in its simplest, teaches us to become more productive citizens while simultaneously opening magical doors for aspiring pupils to explore. As the late Martin Luther King aptly put it, Intelligence plus character that is the goal of true education. The key to having the best education system is constantly moving forward with legislation and initiatives. Subsequently, state legislatures and schooldistricts pass initiative plans in hopes of promoting the progression of a child s education. However, the complexity and inefficiency of the total U.S. system can lead to bright children being left behind. The task of running the education behemoth is largely left up to the 50 states. All of the states, excluding Hawaii, have a common hierarchical structure (highest to lowest): state legislatures, state departments of education/boards of education, state commissioners, school districts/boards, and school superintendents. Traditionally, state control over education was vested in state boards of education. These boards formally have the power to decide everything from teacher certification to textbook selection. However, in practice these boards rely heavily on the recommendations of the state commissioner of education and the state department of education. All states have a C.E.O. (Chief Education ... Drugs And Drug Development Journey The unlikely route from inflammation to antipsychotics The drug development journey leading to olanzapine (Zyprexa) reaching the market did not always follow the steps of rational drug design. Inspired by the first antipsychotic drugs, it took a while from the first discovery of antipsychotic drugs until Zyprexa was developed. The first antipsychotics were come across largely by chance. They were not specifically tailored to a relevant biological effector as rational drug design promotes. Even now as most drugs, Zyprexa is not quite perfect, it is accused of side effects such as weight gain and diabetes. But it has proven to be a potent medication for the treatment of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and today is also widely used for the treatment of depression (Perlmultter. 2014). The story of this drug begins in the streets of Paris (and Lyon) in the 1930s, where the pharma company Laboratoires RhГґne Poulenc (today Sanofi) noticed that the drugs they were developing as antihistamines also demonstrated relaxant and sedative effects (Shen ,1999; Healy, 2004). Their observations and research eventually lead to the synthesis of chlorpromazine in 1950, the first drug with specific antipsychotic action (Yuhas, 2013). In an outer rotor style, the windings are situated within the core of the motor. The rotor magnets surround the stator coil windings as shown here. The rotor magnets act as an dielectric, thereby reducing the speed of heat dissipation from the motor. Because of the situation of the stator coil windings, outer rotor styles usually operate at lower duty cycles or at a lower rated current. The first advantage of an outer rotor BLDC motor is comparatively low cogging force. In an inner rotor style, the stator coil windings surround the rotor and are mounted to the motor s housing as shown here. The first advantage of an inner rotor construction is its ability to dissipate heat. A motor s ability to dissipate heat directly impacts its ability to provide force. For this reason, the overwhelming majority of BLDC motors use an inner rotor style. Another advantage of an inner rotor style is lower rotor inertia. Toe Professor Cynthia Gaw World literature 11 November 2016 Punishment that Befits the Sin Dante s Inferno originally named The Divine Comedy or in modern Italian The Commedia , follows the contemporary Christian ethos by showing how the consequences of man are equal to their sins; passed upon them in death. The physical sins that man does on earth if not repented of, will then become their eternal consequence in Hell. Dante shows us in his travels through the circles of hell how this suffering is the direct and equal result of their earthly sins. The sins of the cowardice, the lustful, gluttonous, greedy, angry, heretical, violent, fraudulent and treacherous have their bodies in constant pain equivalent of the actions of their human bodies on earth. The thesis of this paper is to show how physical pain enacted upon corporeal bodies in hell, are the logical consequence of sin on earth. I will show this by citing examples of sinners featured in The inferno that are tortured for the sins in their respective layer of hell. The Inferno is based directly upon Dante s devout catholic nature. The inferno is mixed with the bible, roman Catholicism, mythology and medieval tradition with a direct influence of 14th century roman Catholicism. The passage concerning purgatory is a direct indoctrination from roman Catholicism and is not found anywhere in the bible.
