Organized Power Revealed In John Steinbeck s In Dubious...
The novel In Dubious Battle explores the journey of two Labor party members, Mac and Jim, and
their attempt to fuel an organized strike at a California apple orchard. Steinbeck was not successful
with maintaining objectivity while writing the story, the novel seemed to be a pro labor one. To begin,
the novel seems entirely fairly sympathetic for the case Jim, the one who was at the forefront of it all.
Steinbeck highlights his character and humanity. He s not made to be necessarily perfect, however his
intentions are not ruinous. I was watching the riot squad come in from the other side. Well, a squad
came up from behind, too. Cop slugged me from behind, right in the back of the neck. When I came to

As a reader, one may feel that Jim Nolan would be associated with the sacrifice and solicitude that he
is in the book. Thus, this would show Steinbeck s sympathies for strikers (or of Jim, in this case). In a
like manner, the owners of the crops are not presented sympathetically, and are seen for the most part
from the perspective of the strikers. Steinbeck writes in the sense of the organized power of the Torgas
valley and the owners exploitative nature. Likewise, he creates the unpleasant plight of the laborers
and empathized with their dignity that is lost the society that is depicted by Steinbeck as one where a
few men hold major power whilst the workers have little, not even being able to support themselves.
They have low wages, and work under what is painted to be terrible conditions. Now these few guys
that own most of the Torgas Valley waited before most of the crop tramps were already there. They
spent most of their money getting there, of course. They always do. And then the owners announced
their price cut. Suppose the tramps are mad? What can they do? They ve got to work picking apples to
get out even. (Steinbeck, In Dubious Battle, 26). In this scene, the Grower s Association is

Lorenzo s Oil Ethical Theory
Lorenzo s Oil Relative to Ethic Theories Director George Miller is a great story teller of the real life
story Of Lorenzo Odone. Lorenzo s is a little boy that at a very young age is diagnosis with
adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD). Parents Augusto and Michaela Odone, devastated as any parents would
decide right then they would take action. They started to research in addition to seeking out the best
doctors they could find that had knowledge of this rare disease that their son inherited. Their quest
was stressful waiting on month blood work results, scary knowing there is no cure for this disease,
hopefully that their son will get better. With help of family as well as friends they got through many
struggles financially, personally in their marriage and over all the fight for their son Lorenzo s.
Ethical Theories Augusto and Michaela are prime examples of the teleological (outcome) theory
which they decide that what is right also maximizes some good. The right thing to do, then, is the
good thing to do (Edge Groves, 2006). Lorenzo s parents were set on trying to help their son in any
way they could even though they knew that this was an inherited disease that had no cure and believe
to have a rapid ending to young children lives. However, the Odone never gave up whether it was

Persuasive Essay On Home Alone
Most people never thought of what it would be like to have your wish come true, and at the same time
having to face the scariest thing as a kid all in just two days. One thing is true for a fact that we do
love our family greatly, yet we all have taken our anger out on our family also by saying some things
that we probably shouldn t have, causing our emotions to take over and have no control over what
happens next. Therefore, in a film as a kid Kevin McCallister (a 9 year old) decides to take all his
anger out on his family after being name called and teased. His mom then sends him to the attic where
he then tells her that he hates his family, but that he also wishes to never see them again. His wish did,
in fact, come true, he was left home alone on Christmas Eve while his family was on vacation. The
thing is he has to face two robbers in an event of the battle of good vs. evil just to save his house, nor
does he have anyone to look up too. But does he? Having no family there makes it even harder, and
Kevin soon realizes that maybe his family is what matters most. This film is called Home Alone, In
the film Home Alone, the storyteller uses the archetype the hero s regrets and the mentor s advice to
illustrate that we as humans tend to say rude and hurtful things towards the people we love the most
when we are angry because we don t appreciate what we have until we lose it, and we don t realize
how thankful we are for our family until something happens where we need

Anti War Movement Essay
Anti War Movement
During the year of 1965 the Vietnam War made an impact of negativity on the United States. Anti war
protests began to roar and break out in December of 1969 when the government held a draft lottery
where they would pull drafting cards to send men over to Vietnam to fight. Because so many
Americans were against the war it caused protesters to burn their drafting cards. While the vietnam
war lasted a little over 8 years, making it the 6th longest It had only been heard of for a short time
before that, started by students on college campuses.
Many who protested the war believed we had no business there in the first place. The war had to do

That accord brought victory to the table for America and South vietnam. The United States decided to
back up the victory by making a pledge to provide the South Vietnam with any surplus they may ever
need to defend themselves against the North.
Unfortunately in the following year of 1974 Nixon resigned his years in office due to the charges he
knew that later would come against him. Because of Nixon resigning office, three months later, during
the November congressional elections, the democrats brought victory to the new congress. The issue
then was that the majority of the new members used their power to defund the pledge we made to
South Vietnam back in 73. Or course there were people fighting this. President Ford gave a speech
directly to congress, begging them to not rid of the promise we made to South Vietnam. Many of the
congress members left the room during the speech given by the president. So many congress workers
didn t support the Pledge because in earlier years many of them were protesters against the war
therefore, they wouldn t support the aid. Which in reality caused more pain to South Vietnam when
North vietnam invaded them once again, and we stayed out, we went back on our word and the south

The Successful Treatment Of Malaria
The successful treatment of malaria infections solely dependent upon the use of the most effective anti
malaria drugs to eradicated the parasite from the individual s blood. The treatments differ for
complicated and uncomplicated infections. The greatest obstacle healthcare workers face is the
increased resistance of the Plasmodium parasite to drug therapy. The Plasmodium falciform species
has become increasingly resistant in the regions affect by the strain (1).
In an effort to avoid drug resistance, the current recommendation of the World Health Organization is
the use of two more anti malaria drugs for the treatment of uncomplicated P. falciform malaria
infections. In order to achieve the desired effect the drug combinations must have different modes of
action. The formal name for this form of therapy is artemisinin based combination therapy (ACT) (1).
Artemisinin defines the group of drugs that have the most rapid action in the treatment of P. falciform
malaria. The drug has been shown to eradicate both the resistant and susceptible stains P. falciform
(2). The idea is use an artemisinin along with a drug from a different class to maximize the treatment
outcomes (2).
In complicated malaria cases, the WHO recommends intramuscular injection of a water soluble drug
name artesunate. It is a synthetic derivative of the artemisinin that is more biologically active. The
drug is capable of stopping parasite development and preventing the adherence of erythrocytes to

Gay Marriage Rights
Children don t choose their parents when they are born and for those who are adopted they often don t
have a choice at such a young age who their parents are either. These children can only hope for
loving parents no matter what race, sexuality or marital status. With knowing this, LGBT couples
rights when adopting children are still questioned. Even though abuse and divorce, which can
negatively affect a child s mental state, are possibilities in any relationship no matter what sexuality.
For most cases adopted children live happy lives and having gay parents is normal to them. Still, the
rights of LGBT couples being able to adopt children has been debated recently with some saying these
couples should not be allowed to adopt at all, and others saying that LGBT couples should have the
same rights as straight couples when adopting children. A third side to this debate is that too many
children are in foster care and it should be encouraged for every couple to adopt a child if they can.
For the stance that LGBT couples should not be allowed to adopt, nature and religion and the main
arguments. Allowing gay couples the right to adopt children could offend those who believe that
homosexuality is a sin. Many religions believe that being gay is not correct and is punished in the
afterlife. With this viewpoint of the LGBT community it is feared that gay parents will influence their
children to also be gay leading to more sinners in the world. Another religious issue with

The Replacement And Fortification Of Micronutrients
The replacement and fortification of micronutrients in Milo, an iconic Kiwi drink, has gotten people
increasingly interested in the fortification of food products. The fortification of foods is when the
manufacturer or government has decided to add vitamins and micronutrients that humans benefit
from. This includes things such as iron, which helps you metabolize proteins for creating red blood
cells and haemoglobin, helping us stay alive. There are ongoing discussions and debates on this topic,
whether it is good or bad to fortify products. People who consume fortified foods are presumably
benefiting from these products rather than a pure source. Governments can mandate or make
fortification voluntary, but the manufacturers can do so if they feel they need to.
New Zealand s level of fluoride occurring naturally in water is very low making it unsuitable for
protection of your teeth. The fluoridation of water is backed by the Ministry of Health, saying that it is
a simple way to prevent tooth decay. All of our country does not fluoridate, with different councils
having different opinion about the matter. Here in Nelson/Tasman area, the councils have decided not

How Does Media Affect The Generation Gap
The impact that media has on the process of socialisation is due to the generation gaps. The term
generation is defines as subcomponents of society demarcated by age . What defines a generation is
generally the diving lines are tied to crucial global events. For example, the end of WWII was the birth
of the Baby Boomers. The generations that my Cross Generational Study looks at are Gen X (1967
1976) and Gen Z (1996 2009). Gen X which are born between 1977 to 1995. They are currently aged
41 50 and make up This Generation follows the baby boomers. Characteristics of Generation X
include entrepreneurial as they struggled to find jobs after college, hardworking as they make up 33%
of the workforce, educated, ethnically diverse and individualistic. Gen Z which are born between 1996
to 2009. They are currently aged 8 21 and make up 20% of the Australian population. Characteristics
of Generation Z include diversity, mature, open mined, plurality and technology literate. Strauss Howe
theory of generations Strauss Howe theory of generations identified repeating cycles of generational
values. These values diverge between four distinguish eras the Prophet, Nomad, Hero and Artist
generations. It states that it takes 80 year period for them to replicate themselves. These transitions are
done to make way for next to come. The theory is called the Four Turning . Stage 1 Hero The cycle

Hernan Cortez Accomplishments
Did you know that past explorers were known to travel for riches and fame? They just wanted to be
known, and be able to say they were there, and seen many things; or the accomplishments they have
made. For instance, Hernan Cortez was born in 1485 in Medellin, Spain. He was a Spanish
conquistador who defeated the Aztec Empire and claimed Mexico for Spain. He also studied at the
university of Salamanca. In 1504, he traveled to Santo Domingo and settled in a town called Azua and
served as a notary. In 1515, he joined the expedition of Cuba led by Diego Velazquez and served as
the mayor of Santiago. In 1518, he set sail to Mexico with eleven ships and five hundred men. By
1519, he reached the Mexican coast.
Some hardships Cortez faced included him becoming allies with natives, and others. he used deadly
force to conquer Mexico. He fought Tiaxacan and Cholula warriors. He marched to Tenochtitlan and
captured the ruler Montezuma II., although , he had to leave because the Spanish troops were coming
to arrest him for disobeying orders. But he did return later because the Spanish was set out by the
Aztecs. In 1515, he conquered the Aztecs and King Charles appointed him to be the governor of New
Spain. Some interesting facts about Hernan Cortez was that after he conquered the Aztecs, his
authority and position was questioned, and they also formed a rebellion against him. Between 1540
1547, he spent time being recognized for his achievements, and support from the Spanish royal courts.

Advisory Committee Aeronautics (NACA) in 1955. His first assignment was with NACA Lewis
research center (NASA) in Cleveland. Over the next 17 years he was an engineer, test pilot, astronaut
and administrator for NACA and its successor agency, the national aeronautics and space
administration (NASA). Neil Armstrong became an astronaut in 1962. He was assigned a command
for Gemini 8 mission. Gemini was launched on March 16, 1966 and Armstrong

Program Evaluation and Review Technique Article
PROGRAM EVALUATION AND REVIEW TECHNIQUE (PERT) Category: Planning/ Monitoring
Control ABSTRACT Program (Project) Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT)(G) is a project
management tool used to schedule, organize, and coordinate tasks within a project. It is basically a
method to analyze the tasks involved in completing a given project, especially the time needed to
complete each task, and to identify the minimum time needed to complete the total project. PERT
planning involves the following steps:       Identify the specific activities and milestones.

Determine the critical path. The critical path is determined by adding the times for the activities in
each sequence and determining the longest path in the project. The critical path determines the total
calendar time required for the project. If activities outside the critical path speed up oe slow down
(within limits), the total project time does not change. The amount of time that a non critical path
activity can be delayed without the project is referred to as a slack time. If the critical path is not
immediately obvious, it may be helpful to determine the following four quantities foe each activity:
ES Earliest Start time EF Earliest Finish time LS Latest Start time LF Latest Finish time These times
are calculated using the expected time for the relevant activities. The earliest start and finish times of
each activity are determined by working forward through the network and determining the earliest
time at which an activity can start and finish considering its predecessors activities. The latest start and
finish times are the latest times that an activity can start and finish without delaying the project. LS
and LF are found by working backward through the network. The difference in the latest and earliest
finish of each activity is that activity s slack. The critical path then is the path through the network in
which none of the activities have slack. The variance in the project completion time can be calculated

Star Trek Influence On American Culture
In the 1960 s, it was common for families to spend their evenings around the television. They would
enjoy the broadcast media of the age, while also enjoying each other s company. This ritual became a
cornerstone of American family life. Television featured white families living the American dream;
something every American family aspired towards. Television was a vessel for entertainment, not for
challenging the status quo, but this would soon change for the better. On the evening of September 8,
1966, families with children gathered around their television, unaware that they would be witnessing
an event that would forever change mainstream American media. This event was the airing of Star
Trek. At the time it aired, America was immersed in the Civil Rights Movement. It was almost
impossible to imagine the country becoming a place where everybody, regardless of gender, race,
ethnicity, or beliefs, could be treated with equal respect. Star Trek was a crucial step towards giving
people hope, and allowing them to publicly see for the first time, the possibility of a better future. ...

Safety Net
The effect of smaller government safety nets on families is drastic. The United States is one of the few
countries left in the world that has yet to understand the importance of strong supports for the primary
building block of our society. By continuing to balance our competing ideals of individualism against
marriage and family we are putting the very foundations of our country at risk. Our current federal
safety net is made up of many individual policies and programs. They are generally independent of
each other and attack a single aspect of poverty. Taken as a whole they represent a challenging matrix
for the poor to use and the American taxpayer to understand ( Safety Net Programs Federal Safety
Net, n.d.).
In the instance of a family facing the crisis of raising a child with disabilities, this situation can be
both ineffective and confusing. For example, if a family faces the challenge of raising a child

The safety net should have support systems available to aid in the family s ability to restructure its
dynamics and come to terms with a new reality. When this does not happen for a family, it leaves them
unsure of the next steps to take for their child, emotionally exhausted, and with fewer economic
resources. When safety nets are smaller and less certain, families serve more prominent roles as
educators, healthcare providers, personnel managers, and social workers for their members
(Bogenschneider, 2014, p. 115). As many families in America face caring for their family members in
situations such as autism, aging parents, children with disabilities, and others who are chronically ill it
is time to implement an effective government safety net to help families restructure and face the
challenges as an cohesive family

Rosencrantz And Guildenstern, By William Shakespeare Essay
Tom Stoppard s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead begins with confusion and ends in
bewilderment. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are minor characters in Shakespeare s Hamlet. Stoppard
takes Rosencrantz and Guildenstern out of the Hamlet reality and creates a new world for them, a
world where they are lead characters. However, in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern s new reality,
limitations and constraints arise. Many of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern s adventures and actions have
already been written by Shakespeare which only gives Stoppard so much to incorporate for himself.
Stoppard actually does an exceptional job in giving Rosencrantz and Guildenstern s a plot for
themselves, he does this through the manner of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern s incomprehensibility of
the world and their difficulty in making meaningful decisions. To an extent, Rosencrantz and
Guildenstern did have the ability to make their own choices and to an extent, they didn t. In this essay
I will discuss just how much Rosencrantz and Guildenstern s capability for action, existential choice
and death were already written before Stoppard even picked up a pen. The majority of Rosencrantz
and Guildenstern s narrative has already been written by Shakespeare. The characters try to break free
of this narrative by the way they frequently discuss fate, chance and the difference between reality and
acting. Stoppard takes many themes from Hamlet and incorporates them well within his play,
however, his

Book Report On The Book I
For this reading assignment, we were reading chapters 1, 2, and 3 I find it helpful to me to read, take
notes and write out summaries as if this was two books. I will start off each time with Wes the author.
As the book opens, we have Wes remembering a day that he and his older sister, Nikki, were playing a
game. Wes caught her, and not knowing what to do, punched her in the face. Joy, Wes mother, was
very upset because Wes had hit a girl , and sent him to his room.
Wes father calmed Joy down by saying that Wes didn t know what punching a girl like that meant.
Wes father went up to speak to Wes about his behavior. As he knocked on the door and entered, he
calls Wes his Main Man. The author went on to say that the memory of his father, named Westley,
speaking to him after he had punched his sister, was only one of two memories he had of his father.
The other memory was him watching his dad die. Westley had not been feeling well, and eventually
drove himself to the hospital. The hospital staff did not know what to make of his symptoms, so for
his sore throat, they numbed it for him to relieve the pain, and sent him home to rest. Later he
collapsed and passed away from an acute epiglottitis. His death affected his entire family.
Wes spoke about how his mother, Joy, had emigrated to the U.S from Jamaica and had to learn how to
fit in with the other kids and society. We were given a history of her two husbands, Bill, and Westley.
She met Bill while attending an activist

The High Cost Of College
Education has always been imperative. Now more than ever, it is the only thing that helps anyone to
advance in today s society. As vital as imparting knowledge can be, it is also expensive. The average
school year cost about $25,000 dollars to attend. Not to mention, the exclusion of room and board, and
school fees, which is much more exorbitant. The thought of even extending free tuition all through
college to obtain a Bachelor s degree is brilliant. I personally believe the U.S Government should fund
for this proposal while it s on hand because it can ease both working parents and student, time to
study, and can encourage them to excel more in school. We were taught going to school that college is
nothing but hard work. And that it cost about and arm and a leg to finish any sort of degree. This

Difference Between 1450 Ce And Qing Empires
During 1450 C.E to 1750 C.E, the Qing empire s method of conquest differed from the
Portuguese s method as the Qing sought to acquire more neighboring
land territory due to concerns for
security instead of being more focused on establishing trade posts in distant lands and islands for
control of commerce like the Portuguese. Another difference in the form of conquest between the Qing
and Portuguese empire s lays in their specific use of either superior naval technology that the
Portuguese held, which could devastate merchant ships in the Indian
Ocean or a powerful military army used by the Qing empire. However, both the methods the empires
used for conquest shared the same type of aggressiveness involved in the force of arms relating to the

For China, the Qing empire s efforts in unifying neighboring lands within its own territory such as the
regions of Mongolia, XinJiang, and Tibet allowed the empire to solidify its protection against the
danger of nomadic people invading. This differs from the way the Portuguese empire seeked to control
the trade of commerce for economic benefit as they established many fortified bases within the Indian
Ocean such as Mombasa, Hormuz, Goa, and Malacca in Southeast Asia that were far away.
Differences in each empire s form of conquest also include the Qing empire s use of a powerful
military army that contributed to China s territorial expansion whereas the Portuguese s naval ships
allowed the empire to dominate the Indian Ocean trade since other merchant ships were not capable of
challenging them. The Qing dynasty s army would undertake specific efforts of occupying new
territories that have not yet been controlled by the empire itself such as the creation of a state that was
originally controlled by the Zunghars. This form of conquering new neighboring areas through land

Although, many of his people converted to another religions, he is not angry with them. This paper s

Zoroastrianism is a religion founded by Zarathustra Spitma also, known as Zoroaster during the 6th

Causes Of Csare Lombroso
Nowadays it is common to hear expressions like beware of that man, he has the face of a thief ; These
young people are suspicious, their appearance is deplorable, or because of that scar he has, I would
say he is a criminal. It is also often observed that certain types of people are still rejected, isolated or
labeled by society, due to their physical characteristics, because they have congenital malformations,
or they have been acquired during the course of their existence. It is not good to judge by appearances,
but there are people who at first sight seem dangerous to us. In the nineteenth century, the scientist
Cesare Lombroso developed a theory that defines potential criminals by some of their physical
features.
Cesare Lombroso, a criminologist and Italian physicians, he was one of the forerunners of modern
criminology in that he may be born predisposed to be a criminal for biological causes. His legacy is
still present, although his studies and publications caused and continue to cause considerable
controversy. This Italian, who during his career published twenty five books that combine biological
science with criminology, was one of the most important exponents of criminological positivism. It is
a current that, instead of exposing sanctions for a certain act, is done for a delinquent studying its
characteristics, crime and manner of committing it in order to then seek a legal punishment that
adjusts to each case. Lombroso believed that human evolution and the

The Beatles Influence On Pop Culture
On June 6 of 1962, the Beatles recorded their very first hit song, Love me do , and it would change the
direction of pop culture forever. Although they broke up in 1970, they are still a very popular band,
even today. The Beatles were definately some of the most influential people of their time. The Beatles
are one of the most influential bands in history, because they seemed to have limitless imagination and
their creativity will never be matched. For this reason, they won a number of Grammy Awards for
their music, like a 2014 Grammy Award for lifetime achievement, along with other awards. In the
middle and late 1960 s, the Beatles helped give rock music a new direction. They gave it a new
melody, and people loved it. Their chord

Rhetoric and Betrayal in Julius Caeser Play
William Shakespeare s famous play Julius Caesar utilizes the literary element of rhetoric multiple
times throughout to show the true power that words can hold. The rhetoric in Caesar accompanies the
play s themes of betrayal, deception, and exaggeration. Brutus uses rhetoric to persuade the crowd of
plebeians that the murdering of Caesar was positive and beneficial to all of Rome, winning their
support and causing them to join his cause. Soon after, Mark Antony gives a terrifically persuasive
speech that he claims to be a funeral oration for Caesar, but is truly a cleverly shrouded undermining
to Brutus s speech. Antony s speech is able to not only gain him the crowd s support, but causes the
crowd to completely disregard what Brutus had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even the starting line of his oration is a powerful use of rhetoric. By referring to the plebeians as
friends and Romans he creates a sense of emotional connection with them and shapes a feeling of
citizen like connection, which is use of pathos. Calling them countrymen creates the feeling that
Antony is simply a fellow Roman like the plebeians and he is alike to them. Antony then uses the
rhetoric device of conduplicatio in his speech, repeating that Brutus is an honorable man. This is also a
use of irony. He says in a sarcastic manner that Brutus is honorable after pointing out contractions to
what Brutus had said about Caesar and why he needed to be murdered (Gradesaver). Antony also
mentions that Caesar s declining of the crown three times showed that he was not ambitious. Antony
causes himself to appeal to the crowd even more with another device of rhetoric the understatement.
He claims his modesty and contrasts his speaking skills with those of Brutus, when his persuasive
skills are actually more powerful than Brutus s in the lines: I come not, friends, to steal away your
hearts. I am no orator, as Brutus is, But, as you know me all, a plain blunt man That love my friend.
And that they know full well That gave me public leave to speak of him. (3.2.210 14)
Antony s statement is ironic because he states that he is not an orator like Brutus, when is actually a
better orator and persuades the

Wildfires Research Paper
Wildfires have played an important role in shaping history. They have shaped private islands and
public areas. Even though wildfires have destroyed thousands of acres of land and killed millions of
people, humans still start these furies of fire either on accident or on purpose. Also, many times people
have started controlled burns which people use for different reasons. Sometimes, wildfires are not as
bad as some people may think. Even if someone is caught in a wildfire, preparing and getting out is
not hard at all. Humans may not always be ready for a wildfire, but they do know how to stop one.
Wildfires are misunderstood by some people, some think they only happen on purpose, others think
that wildfires happen very rarely, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But that s not true at all. Firefighters sometimes start a wildfire on purpose, which is called a
controlled burn. The controlled burning started in 1995 by the US Forest service. Controlled burns are
wildfires that have their speed, intensity, and location of the wildfire. These wildfires are controlled by
removing or adding fuel. Controlled burns happen to eliminate flammable fuels like dry leaves so a
real wildfire doesn t happen, restore the health in the ecosystem, recycle nutrients and to prepare an
area for planting or new vegetation. Controlled burns don t happen very often, which means they aren
t bad for the air.If a controlled burn is hard to control or a wildfire has started, Firefighters may do
something called Back Burning . Back burning is used to eliminate fuels for the fire in the direction it
s going. For example, if a wildfire is heading north, then fire fighters will make a back burn north of
that fire. When firefighters back burn, they make small fires to make it harder for the main fire to get
more fuel and easier to put it out. Back burns are used in combination with controlled burns to limit an
area to that controlled burn. The US Forest service decides when and how to do controlled burns by
finding out what vegetation needs to and doesn t need to be burnt, what intensity the fire has to be at,
considering the history of burning in the area, determining the time of day to start the burn, and finding
the quality of the moisture and the fuels in the area. Controlled burns are very safe. Very much
planning goes into controlled burns, so it will be very hard to lose control, but it still happens. So
controlled burns are a lot more useful than people

Laughter Without An Accent By Firoozeh Dumas Analysis
Traveling half the globe does not seem to be that big of a deal anymore. This opens up many
opportunities, especially for students, to go to a different country and learn their culture. I am an
international student and from my experience, cultural differences are the most difficult challenge for
two people to become friends. Most of the situation that I had faced are very similar to the story in
Laughing Without an Accent by Firoozeh Dumas. I came to the U.S as a sophomore and just like
Dumas describes in her story The Jester and I , I was haunted with the ideas of making new friends. It
was more like a mission to me because I could not come back home, telling my Vietnamese friends
that I was isolated. Also, I wanted to prove to everyone that I was not a boring person. Therefore, I
was desperate to hang out with the so called cool kids . In order to do so, I had to be cool just like
them. And the fastest way to become cool was to be funny. Unfortunately, as mentioned in Dumas
story ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I stopped trying to be someone who I was not and just lived my life. I did not care about what others
thought anymore and became friends with people who I used to call nerd . Just like Dumas, I realized
that if being smart and have a decent conversation about an intellectual subject all the time, instead of
going to clubs every night getting wasted, is referred as nerd , then I do not want to be cool for the rest
of my life. I consider myself to be a global citizen. Studying in a country like the U.S, I have chances
to befriend with people from all around the world. Sometimes being a cultural outsider is quite
difficult, but it gives me the opportunities to see many cultures from different part of the world. Some
people compliment that I almost sound like an American when I speak English. Little did they know
that I am trying to hold onto my Asian accent because that is what makes me

Molotov Ribbentrop Pact
Molotov Ribbentrop Pact
The Molotov Ribbentrop Pact, colloquially named after the Soviet foreign minister Vyacheslav
Molotov and the German foreign minister Joachim von Ribbentrop, was an agreement officially titled
the Treaty of Non Aggression between Germany and the Soviet Union[1] and signed in Moscow in the
late hours of 23 August 1939.[2] It was a non aggression pact under which the Soviet Union and Nazi
Germany each pledged to remain neutral in the event that either nation were attacked by a third party.
It remained in effect until 22 June 1941, when Germany invaded the Soviet Union.
In addition to stipulations of non aggression, the treaty included a secret protocol dividing Northern

countries occurred from late 1938 to March 1939.[29] The third Soviet Five Year Plan required
massive new infusions of technology and industrial equipment.[27][30]
On 31 March 1939, in response to Nazi Germany s defiance of the Munich Agreement and occupation
of Czechoslovakia,[31] the United Kingdom pledged the support of itself and France to guarantee the
independence of Poland, Belgium, Romania, Greece, and Turkey.[32] On 6 April Poland and the UK
agreed to formalize the guarantee as a military alliance, pending negotiations.[33] On 28 April, Hitler
denounced the 1934 German Polish Non Aggression Pact and the 1935 Anglo German Naval
Agreement.[34]
Starting in mid March 1939, the Soviet Union, Britain and France traded a flurry of suggestions and
counterplans regarding a potential political and military agreement.[35] Although informal
consultations commenced in April, the main negotiations began only in May.[35] At the same time,
throughout the early 1939,Germany and the Soviet Union had discussed a possibility of an economic
deal involving industrial equipment and armament for the USSR in exchange for raw materials needed
for German war production.[36] German war planners had estimated massive raw materials shortfalls
if Germany entered a war without Soviet supply.[37] For months, Germany had secretly hinted to
Soviet diplomats that it could offer better terms for a political agreement than Britain and France.[38]

Expat Kids
Expat Kids How to Cope With the Right Attitude!
By Steven McManus
Jul 15, 2009
Is being an expat all about attitude, and if so, does this have an immense influence on expat children
and how they perceive their situation in this new environment?
After much research on the topic there were a few points that stood out for me on how to be an expat
child these are discussed below:
1. Attitude
Your attitude as the adult and parent is going to greatly influence how your children settle in the
country and accept the move.
We can decide whether to be positive or negative about becoming expats. The more positive parent
results in a well adjusted child who looks at the glass half full, finds the positive in every situation and
tries to adjust as much as you do.
Trudie says: We saw this move as a wonderful opportunity to expose our children to the world and
maybe broaden their horizons.
Shirley says: I hated where we moved to and people were not as friendly as I thought they would be
and it was hard and lonely. I had to work hard to change, but with a positive attitude, my children have
become so much happier.
2. Being Open minded:
In every case of becoming an expat, the circumstances you are going to experience are different. If
you have not been brought up in the culture it is going to be an adjustment. Parents need to be open
minded and to allow their children to do the same.
Monique says: Being an expat parent really depends on a lot of things, e.g. where you are

A newly formed firm must decide on a plant location. There are two alternatives under consideration:

The University Of The Ozarks
The Student Government Association, a student lead organization aimed to improve the campus
community, has established several goals they would like to accomplish during the current school
year, 2015 2016. In order to determine these goals and objectives, two detailed persona profiles were
created which provided the association with a better understanding of their audiences and how to best
communicate with them. The publics were divided into two groups, students pertaining to the senate
and students pertaining to the student body. Therefore, the next stage consists in performing research
regarding the goals SGA has established by conducting surveys and focus groups on campus. As
mentioned previously, SGA works closely with two different publics. The first and primary publics are
the officers and senators of the association, whereas the second publics consist of the rest of the
student body at the University of the Ozarks. The characteristic which differentiate the first from the
second public is that senators and officers work as the intermediary between the student body and the
Board of Trustee and President. Nonetheless, both persona profiles describe students that are involved
in the various campus activities and show interest in the different school related affairs. These types of
students do not sit back and blindly accept the changes made on campus, but actively take part in the
decisions making role. Although the final decisions or outcomes might not always follow the

Essay On Broodmares
Supplementing Your Broodmare and Foal
When thinking about the nutrition of broodmares and foals, most people understand the importance of
the macro minerals calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium, which is needed for the rapid bone growth
in the fetus in late gestation and once the foal is born. However, breeders sometimes don t realize that
certain trace minerals and vitamins during gestation and nursing are extremely important in the
growth, development, and health of foals. For this reason it is very important that they supplement
their broodmares with a great supplement, like Horse Guard. Without a proper trace mineral and
vitamin supplementation her foal could have multiple issues that could have easily been avoided.
Copper, zinc, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The effects of zinc deficiency on bone and cartilage formation in foals causes reduced growth rates. In
addition, both zinc deficiency and toxicity, has been associated with lesions on the lower extremities
related to developmental orthopedic disease. This helps to further drive home the importance of
feeding a properly balanced vitamin mineral supplement, like Horse Guard.
Manganese
Manganese has many important functions in the body including metabolism, and serving as an
antioxidant. In broodmares a manganese deficiency can cause re absorption of an embryo, making it
hard to get the mare bred. Manganese aids in the metabolism of carbohydrates and fats, and serves as
an antioxidant in the body. It also aids in cartilage formation, with research suggesting that Manganese
deficiency is linked to limb abnormalities in foals. Supplementing with a product that contains
Manganese during a mare s pregnancy will help ensure the foal is able to has strong bones and healthy
cartilage during a period that they are growing rapidly.
Iron
The transport of oxygen throughout blood and into muscles is reliant on Iron. Iron makes up
hemoglobin, the transport molecule for oxygen in the blood. It also makes up myoglobin which aids in
the muscles receiving oxygen. Inadequate levels of iron results in anemia. Foals are more susceptible
to iron deficiency than all other classes of horses. In order for foals to

  • 2. Organized Power Revealed In John Steinbeck s In Dubious... The novel In Dubious Battle explores the journey of two Labor party members, Mac and Jim, and their attempt to fuel an organized strike at a California apple orchard. Steinbeck was not successful with maintaining objectivity while writing the story, the novel seemed to be a pro labor one. To begin, the novel seems entirely fairly sympathetic for the case Jim, the one who was at the forefront of it all. Steinbeck highlights his character and humanity. He s not made to be necessarily perfect, however his intentions are not ruinous. I was watching the riot squad come in from the other side. Well, a squad came up from behind, too. Cop slugged me from behind, right in the back of the neck. When I came to I was already booked for vagrancy. I was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a reader, one may feel that Jim Nolan would be associated with the sacrifice and solicitude that he is in the book. Thus, this would show Steinbeck s sympathies for strikers (or of Jim, in this case). In a like manner, the owners of the crops are not presented sympathetically, and are seen for the most part from the perspective of the strikers. Steinbeck writes in the sense of the organized power of the Torgas valley and the owners exploitative nature. Likewise, he creates the unpleasant plight of the laborers and empathized with their dignity that is lost the society that is depicted by Steinbeck as one where a few men hold major power whilst the workers have little, not even being able to support themselves. They have low wages, and work under what is painted to be terrible conditions. Now these few guys that own most of the Torgas Valley waited before most of the crop tramps were already there. They spent most of their money getting there, of course. They always do. And then the owners announced their price cut. Suppose the tramps are mad? What can they do? They ve got to work picking apples to get out even. (Steinbeck, In Dubious Battle, 26). Lorenzo s is a little boy that at a very young age is diagnosis with adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD). Parents Augusto and Michaela Odone, devastated as any parents would decide right then they would take action. They started to research in addition to seeking out the best doctors they could find that had knowledge of this rare disease that their son inherited. With help of family as well as friends they got through many struggles financially, personally in their marriage and over all the fight for their son Lorenzo s. Ethical Theories Augusto and Michaela are prime examples of the teleological (outcome) theory which they decide that what is right also maximizes some good. The right thing to do, then, is the good thing to do (Edge Groves, 2006). Lorenzo s parents were set on trying to help their son in any way they could even though they knew that this was an inherited disease that had no cure and believe to have a rapid ending to young children lives. • 4. Persuasive Essay On Home Alone Most people never thought of what it would be like to have your wish come true, and at the same time having to face the scariest thing as a kid all in just two days. One thing is true for a fact that we do love our family greatly, yet we all have taken our anger out on our family also by saying some things that we probably shouldn t have, causing our emotions to take over and have no control over what happens next. Therefore, in a film as a kid Kevin McCallister (a 9 year old) decides to take all his anger out on his family after being name called and teased. His mom then sends him to the attic where he then tells her that he hates his family, but that he also wishes to never see them again. His wish did, in fact, come true, he was left home alone on Christmas Eve while his family was on vacation. The thing is he has to face two robbers in an event of the battle of good vs. evil just to save his house, nor does he have anyone to look up too. But does he? Having no family there makes it even harder, and Kevin soon realizes that maybe his family is what matters most. This film is called Home Alone, In the film Home Alone, the storyteller uses the archetype the hero s regrets and the mentor s advice to illustrate that we as humans tend to say rude and hurtful things towards the people we love the most when we are angry because we don t appreciate what we have until we lose it, and we don t realize how thankful we are for our family until something happens where we need ... • 5. Anti War Movement Essay Anti War Movement During the year of 1965 the Vietnam War made an impact of negativity on the United States. Anti war protests began to roar and break out in December of 1969 when the government held a draft lottery where they would pull drafting cards to send men over to Vietnam to fight. Because so many Americans were against the war it caused protesters to burn their drafting cards. While the vietnam war lasted a little over 8 years, making it the 6th longest It had only been heard of for a short time before that, started by students on college campuses. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That accord brought victory to the table for America and South vietnam. The United States decided to back up the victory by making a pledge to provide the South Vietnam with any surplus they may ever need to defend themselves against the North. Unfortunately in the following year of 1974 Nixon resigned his years in office due to the charges he knew that later would come against him. Because of Nixon resigning office, three months later, during the November congressional elections, the democrats brought victory to the new congress. The issue then was that the majority of the new members used their power to defund the pledge we made to South Vietnam back in 73. Or course there were people fighting this. President Ford gave a speech directly to congress, begging them to not rid of the promise we made to South Vietnam. Many of the congress members left the room during the speech given by the president. So many congress workers didn t support the Pledge because in earlier years many of them were protesters against the war therefore, they wouldn t support the aid. Which in reality caused more pain to South Vietnam when North vietnam invaded them once again, and we stayed out, we went back on our word and the south was left to fend for themselves, which then landed them in camps in the countryside where about 250,000 people ... • 6. The Successful Treatment Of Malaria The successful treatment of malaria infections solely dependent upon the use of the most effective anti malaria drugs to eradicated the parasite from the individual s blood. The treatments differ for complicated and uncomplicated infections. The greatest obstacle healthcare workers face is the increased resistance of the Plasmodium parasite to drug therapy. The Plasmodium falciform species has become increasingly resistant in the regions affect by the strain (1). In an effort to avoid drug resistance, the current recommendation of the World Health Organization is the use of two more anti malaria drugs for the treatment of uncomplicated P. falciform malaria infections. In order to achieve the desired effect the drug combinations must have different modes of action. The formal name for this form of therapy is artemisinin based combination therapy (ACT) (1). Artemisinin defines the group of drugs that have the most rapid action in the treatment of P. falciform malaria. The drug has been shown to eradicate both the resistant and susceptible stains P. falciform (2). The idea is use an artemisinin along with a drug from a different class to maximize the treatment outcomes (2). In complicated malaria cases, the WHO recommends intramuscular injection of a water soluble drug name artesunate. It is a synthetic derivative of the artemisinin that is more biologically active. • 7. Gay Marriage Rights Children don t choose their parents when they are born and for those who are adopted they often don t have a choice at such a young age who their parents are either. These children can only hope for loving parents no matter what race, sexuality or marital status. With knowing this, LGBT couples rights when adopting children are still questioned. Even though abuse and divorce, which can negatively affect a child s mental state, are possibilities in any relationship no matter what sexuality. For most cases adopted children live happy lives and having gay parents is normal to them. Still, the rights of LGBT couples being able to adopt children has been debated recently with some saying these couples should not be allowed to adopt at all, and others saying that LGBT couples should have the same rights as straight couples when adopting children. A third side to this debate is that too many children are in foster care and it should be encouraged for every couple to adopt a child if they can. For the stance that LGBT couples should not be allowed to adopt, nature and religion and the main arguments. Allowing gay couples the right to adopt children could offend those who believe that homosexuality is a sin. Many religions believe that being gay is not correct and is punished in the afterlife. With this viewpoint of the LGBT community it is feared that gay parents will influence their children to also be gay leading to more sinners in the world. Another religious issue with ... • 8. The Replacement And Fortification Of Micronutrients The replacement and fortification of micronutrients in Milo, an iconic Kiwi drink, has gotten people increasingly interested in the fortification of food products. The fortification of foods is when the manufacturer or government has decided to add vitamins and micronutrients that humans benefit from. This includes things such as iron, which helps you metabolize proteins for creating red blood cells and haemoglobin, helping us stay alive. There are ongoing discussions and debates on this topic, whether it is good or bad to fortify products. People who consume fortified foods are presumably benefiting from these products rather than a pure source. Governments can mandate or make fortification voluntary, but the manufacturers can do so if they feel they need to. New Zealand s level of fluoride occurring naturally in water is very low making it unsuitable for protection of your teeth. The fluoridation of water is backed by the Ministry of Health, saying that it is a simple way to prevent tooth decay. • 10. Hernan Cortez Accomplishments Did you know that past explorers were known to travel for riches and fame? They just wanted to be known, and be able to say they were there, and seen many things; or the accomplishments they have made. For instance, Hernan Cortez was born in 1485 in Medellin, Spain. He was a Spanish conquistador who defeated the Aztec Empire and claimed Mexico for Spain. He also studied at the university of Salamanca. In 1504, he traveled to Santo Domingo and settled in a town called Azua and served as a notary. In 1515, he joined the expedition of Cuba led by Diego Velazquez and served as the mayor of Santiago. In 1518, he set sail to Mexico with eleven ships and five hundred men. By 1519, he reached the Mexican coast. Some hardships Cortez faced included him becoming allies with natives, and others. he used deadly force to conquer Mexico. He fought Tiaxacan and Cholula warriors. He marched to Tenochtitlan and captured the ruler Montezuma II., although , he had to leave because the Spanish troops were coming to arrest him for disobeying orders. But he did return later because the Spanish was set out by the Aztecs. In 1515, he conquered the Aztecs and King Charles appointed him to be the governor of New Spain. Some interesting facts about Hernan Cortez was that after he conquered the Aztecs, his authority and position was questioned, and they also formed a rebellion against him. Between 1540 1547, he spent time being recognized for his achievements, and support from the Spanish royal courts. Program Evaluation and Review Technique Article PROGRAM EVALUATION AND REVIEW TECHNIQUE (PERT) Category: Planning/ Monitoring Control ABSTRACT Program (Project) Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT)(G) is a project management tool used to schedule, organize, and coordinate tasks within a project. It is basically a method to analyze the tasks involved in completing a given project, especially the time needed to complete each task, and to identify the minimum time needed to complete the total project. PERT planning involves the following steps:       Identify the specific activities and milestones. Determine the proper sequence of the activities. Construct a network diagram. The critical path is determined by adding the times for the activities in each sequence and determining the longest path in the project. The critical path determines the total calendar time required for the project. If activities outside the critical path speed up oe slow down (within limits), the total project time does not change. The amount of time that a non critical path activity can be delayed without the project is referred to as a slack time. If the critical path is not immediately obvious, it may be helpful to determine the following four quantities foe each activity: ES Earliest Start time EF Earliest Finish time LS Latest Start time LF Latest Finish time These times are calculated using the expected time for the relevant activities. The earliest start and finish times of each activity are determined by working forward through the network and determining the earliest time at which an activity can start and finish considering its predecessors activities. The latest start and finish times are the latest times that an activity can start and finish without delaying the project. LS and LF are found by working backward through the network. The difference in the latest and earliest finish of each activity is that activity s slack. The critical path then is the path through the network in which none of the activities have slack. • 12. Star Trek Influence On American Culture In the 1960 s, it was common for families to spend their evenings around the television. They would enjoy the broadcast media of the age, while also enjoying each other s company. This ritual became a cornerstone of American family life. Television featured white families living the American dream; something every American family aspired towards. Television was a vessel for entertainment, not for challenging the status quo, but this would soon change for the better. On the evening of September 8, 1966, families with children gathered around their television, unaware that they would be witnessing an event that would forever change mainstream American media. This event was the airing of Star Trek. At the time it aired, America was immersed in the Civil Rights Movement. It was almost impossible to imagine the country becoming a place where everybody, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, or beliefs, could be treated with equal respect. Star Trek was a crucial step towards giving people hope, and allowing them to publicly see for the first time, the possibility of a better future. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The United States is one of the few countries left in the world that has yet to understand the importance of strong supports for the primary building block of our society. By continuing to balance our competing ideals of individualism against marriage and family we are putting the very foundations of our country at risk. Our current federal safety net is made up of many individual policies and programs. They are generally independent of each other and attack a single aspect of poverty. Taken as a whole they represent a challenging matrix for the poor to use and the American taxpayer to understand ( Safety Net Programs Federal Safety Net, n.d.). When this does not happen for a family, it leaves them unsure of the next steps to take for their child, emotionally exhausted, and with fewer economic resources. When safety nets are smaller and less certain, families serve more prominent roles as educators, healthcare providers, personnel managers, and social workers for their members (Bogenschneider, 2014, p. 115). As many families in America face caring for their family members in situations such as autism, aging parents, children with disabilities, and others who are chronically ill it is time to implement an effective government safety net to help families restructure and face the challenges as an cohesive family ... Stoppard takes Rosencrantz and Guildenstern out of the Hamlet reality and creates a new world for them, a world where they are lead characters. However, in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern s new reality, limitations and constraints arise. Many of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern s adventures and actions have already been written by Shakespeare which only gives Stoppard so much to incorporate for himself. Stoppard actually does an exceptional job in giving Rosencrantz and Guildenstern s a plot for themselves, he does this through the manner of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern s incomprehensibility of the world and their difficulty in making meaningful decisions. To an extent, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern did have the ability to make their own choices and to an extent, they didn t. In this essay I will discuss just how much Rosencrantz and Guildenstern s capability for action, existential choice and death were already written before Stoppard even picked up a pen. The majority of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern s narrative has already been written by Shakespeare. The characters try to break free of this narrative by the way they frequently discuss fate, chance and the difference between reality and acting. Stoppard takes many themes from Hamlet and incorporates them well within his play, however, his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I will start off each time with Wes the author. As the book opens, we have Wes remembering a day that he and his older sister, Nikki, were playing a game. Wes caught her, and not knowing what to do, punched her in the face. Joy, Wes mother, was very upset because Wes had hit a girl , and sent him to his room. Wes father calmed Joy down by saying that Wes didn t know what punching a girl like that meant. Wes father went up to speak to Wes about his behavior. As he knocked on the door and entered, he calls Wes his Main Man. The author went on to say that the memory of his father, named Westley, speaking to him after he had punched his sister, was only one of two memories he had of his father. The other memory was him watching his dad die. Westley had not been feeling well, and eventually drove himself to the hospital. The hospital staff did not know what to make of his symptoms, so for his sore throat, they numbed it for him to relieve the pain, and sent him home to rest. Later he collapsed and passed away from an acute epiglottitis. His death affected his entire family. Wes spoke about how his mother, Joy, had emigrated to the U.S from Jamaica and had to learn how to fit in with the other kids and society. As vital as imparting knowledge can be, it is also expensive. The average school year cost about $25,000 dollars to attend. Not to mention, the exclusion of room and board, and school fees, which is much more exorbitant. The thought of even extending free tuition all through college to obtain a Bachelor s degree is brilliant. I personally believe the U.S Government should fund for this proposal while it s on hand because it can ease both working parents and student, time to study, and can encourage them to excel more in school. Another difference in the form of conquest between the Qing and Portuguese empire s lays in their specific use of either superior naval technology that the Portuguese held, which could devastate merchant ships in the Indian Ocean or a powerful military army used by the Qing empire. Differences in each empire s form of conquest also include the Qing empire s use of a powerful military army that contributed to China s territorial expansion whereas the Portuguese s naval ships allowed the empire to dominate the Indian Ocean trade since other merchant ships were not capable of challenging them. Rhetoric and Betrayal in Julius Caeser Play William Shakespeare s famous play Julius Caesar utilizes the literary element of rhetoric multiple times throughout to show the true power that words can hold. The rhetoric in Caesar accompanies the play s themes of betrayal, deception, and exaggeration. Brutus uses rhetoric to persuade the crowd of plebeians that the murdering of Caesar was positive and beneficial to all of Rome, winning their support and causing them to join his cause. Soon after, Mark Antony gives a terrifically persuasive speech that he claims to be a funeral oration for Caesar, but is truly a cleverly shrouded undermining to Brutus s speech. Even the starting line of his oration is a powerful use of rhetoric. By referring to the plebeians as friends and Romans he creates a sense of emotional connection with them and shapes a feeling of citizen like connection, which is use of pathos. Calling them countrymen creates the feeling that Antony is simply a fellow Roman like the plebeians and he is alike to them. Antony then uses the rhetoric device of conduplicatio in his speech, repeating that Brutus is an honorable man. This is also a use of irony. He says in a sarcastic manner that Brutus is honorable after pointing out contractions to what Brutus had said about Caesar and why he needed to be murdered (Gradesaver). Antony also mentions that Caesar s declining of the crown three times showed that he was not ambitious. Antony causes himself to appeal to the crowd even more with another device of rhetoric the understatement. He claims his modesty and contrasts his speaking skills with those of Brutus, when his persuasive skills are actually more powerful than Brutus s in the lines: I come not, friends, to steal away your hearts. I am no orator, as Brutus is, But, as you know me all, a plain blunt man That love my friend. And that they know full well That gave me public leave to speak of him. But that s not true at all. Firefighters sometimes start a wildfire on purpose, which is called a controlled burn. The controlled burning started in 1995 by the US Forest service. Controlled burns are wildfires that have their speed, intensity, and location of the wildfire. These wildfires are controlled by removing or adding fuel. Controlled burns happen to eliminate flammable fuels like dry leaves so a real wildfire doesn t happen, restore the health in the ecosystem, recycle nutrients and to prepare an area for planting or new vegetation. Controlled burns don t happen very often, which means they aren t bad for the air.If a controlled burn is hard to control or a wildfire has started, Firefighters may do something called Back Burning . Back burning is used to eliminate fuels for the fire in the direction it s going. For example, if a wildfire is heading north, then fire fighters will make a back burn north of that fire. When firefighters back burn, they make small fires to make it harder for the main fire to get more fuel and easier to put it out. Back burns are used in combination with controlled burns to limit an area to that controlled burn. The US Forest service decides when and how to do controlled burns by finding out what vegetation needs to and doesn t need to be burnt, what intensity the fire has to be at, considering the history of burning in the area, determining the time of day to start the burn, and finding the quality of the moisture and the fuels in the area. Controlled burns are very safe. Very much planning goes into controlled burns, so it will be very hard to lose control, but it still happens. So controlled burns are a lot more useful than people ... After much research on the topic there were a few points that stood out for me on how to be an expat child these are discussed below: 1. Attitude Your attitude as the adult and parent is going to greatly influence how your children settle in the country and accept the move. We can decide whether to be positive or negative about becoming expats. The more positive parent results in a well adjusted child who looks at the glass half full, finds the positive in every situation and tries to adjust as much as you do. Trudie says: We saw this move as a wonderful opportunity to expose our children to the world and maybe broaden their horizons. Shirley says: I hated where we moved to and people were not as friendly as I thought they would be and it was hard and lonely. I had to work hard to change, but with a positive attitude, my children have become so much happier. 2. Being Open minded: In every case of becoming an expat, the circumstances you are going to experience are different. If you have not been brought up in the culture it is going to be an adjustment. Parents need to be open minded and to allow their children to do the same. Monique says: Being an expat parent really depends on a lot of things, e.g. where you are ...
