Columbus Letter Essay
The Columbus Letter
Since my endeavors have achieved achievement, I realize that it will please to you: these I have
resolved to relate, so you might be made familiar with everything done and found in this our voyage.
On the thirty third day after I withdrew from Cadiz, I went to the Indian ocean, where I discovered
numerous islands occupied by men without number, of all which I took ownership for our luckiest
ruler, with broadcasting envoys and flying benchmarks, nobody questioning. To the first of these I
gave the name of the favored Savior, on whose guide depending I had achieved this and additionally
alternate islands. Yet, the Indians call it Guanahany. I likewise called every one of the others by
another name. For I requested one island to be called Santa Maria of the Conception, another
Fernandina, another Isabella, another Juana, thus on with the rest.
When we had landed at that island which I have a few seconds ago said was called Juana, I continued
along its coast towards the west for some separation; I discovered it so expansive and without
discernible end, that I trusted it to be not an island, but rather the mainland nation of Cathay; seeing, in
any case, no towns or urban areas arranged on the ocean coast, however just a few towns and
inconsiderate ranches, with whose tenants I was not able chat, in light of the fact that when they saw
us they took off. I continued more distant, believing that I would find some city or vast homes. Finally,
seeing that we

Essay about Napoleon
During rough times in France in the late 1700 amp;#8217;s, an anarchy was being formed. A
revolution turned into civil war and the people were unhappy and needed a leader. At this time,
General Napoleon Bonaparte took an opportunity. Napoleon amp;#8217;s fame for winning battles in
the Middle East and Egypt and crushing royalist uprisings back at home allowed him to take over the
Directory with ease. Recognized for his great military skills and outstanding leadership, Napoleon
easily won over the hearts of the people. Napoleon amp;#8217;s first move was to obtain leadership.
With the help of Pope Pius VII Napoleon was named First Consul of France. Though France was now

Though many accomplishments were shown in government as well as religion, Napoleon
amp;#8217;s main interests were focused on building an empire. After defeating Italy and Austria, and
persuading Russia to withdraw from the war, Napoleon named himself Emperor.
Though Napoleon was very successful on land and in battles, he also had many unsuccessful attempts.
Napoleon amp;#8217;s rage against Britain remained unsuccessful. He attempted many tactics against
the British army. At the Battle of Trafalgar, Napoleon amp;#8217;s loss was severe. The unexpected
raid of the British admiral Lord Nelson, forced Napoleon to lose. Soon after this loss, Napoleon
attempted to force Economic Blockades on Britain called the Continental System. He demanded that
his conquered countries not trade with Britain, and asked Russia and Prussia to participate. The British
counter to this move was to demand that any ship going to Europe, was to report in to Great Britain
first. After a while, the French Navy was not able to hold off the British navy and the Continental
System failed. The French Economy soon worsened and Napoleon continued to expand his empire.
Napoleon then made many more moves stirring up more trouble. He named his brothers kings in
conquered countries, and removed the Holy Roman Empire, setting up the Confederation of the Rhine.
This angered the Prussians, causing them to declare war. The Prussian uprisings were easily
conquered by the French. As Napoleon conquered

There are a large number of possible configurations of engine, electric machine(s)2, clutches, gearing,
and transmissions that can result in an HEV. These are grouped in four classes in this paper. Based on
an examination of the architectures, these classes are: beltdriven starter/generators on the front of the
engine, crank shaft mounted motor/generators on the rear of the engine, series/parallel hybrids, and
combination hybrids with a mixture of the previous configurations. BELT DRIVEN
STARTER/GENERATOR The first architecture is the entry level to hybridization. In this architecture
the engine stop start function is implemented with a starter/generator that is typically belt driven. The
Toyota Crown with the Toyota Hybrid System Mild (THS M) architecture shown in figure 1a is
exemplary. The traditional alternator has been replaced Some powertrain features such as clutches and
differentials are not included in these diagrams in order to keep them from becoming unduly complex.

What Role Did The Cottage Industry Play In The Industrial...
The industrial revolution began in Great Britain, in the beginning over 75% of England s population
were living in countryside towns whilst working on family owned farms, this was otherwise known as
the cottage industry. When the transition in 17th century began people slowly migrated to the cities,
working in factories and the environments drastically changed.
I enjoy participating in these role plays, as it clarifies and furthers my understanding. I was a factory
worker, and I developed an emotional understanding of the working conditions in which peasants both
worked and lived under. Only a few minutes into the activity I supposedly caught my arm in the
machine, where it got much mangled and before anyone who could/would assist I bled ... Show more

Factory owners used the urbanisation and falling of the cottage industry to exploit their workers.
Owners carried the exploitation out by primarily employing women and children and paying them
minimal wages, by ensuring that workers spent six to seven days a week, working a minimum of 12
hour shifts. Many workers became deaf because of the loud machines and the non existent health and
safety guidelines. Factories were always poorly ventilated and became hot and humid very quickly,
especially for those who worked in factories powered by steam, this often resulted in fainting,
dehydration and occasional deaths. When unions were developed in the early 1800 s, condition
gradually improved. Once employees had the government support furthered the improvement, with
the following acts being put in place;
The Factory Act 1819 (UK) limited working hours for children to a maximum of 12 hours a day.
The Factory Act 1833 (UK) banned children under the age of nine from working in the textiles
industry. Children aged 10 to 13 years were limited to a 48 hour working

The Dietary Guidelines have become a very argumentative field. While most of it s research is coming

Horizontal Analysis (A. 1. a) A horizontal analysis can be defined as the study of percentage changes
in comparative statements (Charles T. Horngren, 2008, p. 746). It is useful in determining a company s
financial stability. This section will analyze Competition Bikes Incorporated s (CBI) percentage
changes from years 6 to 7 and then 7 to 8. The report will include an analysis of CBI s comparative
income statement and balance sheet.
Between years 6 and 7 CBI s Net Sales increased by 33.3% for a change of $1,495,000. The increase
of 33% indicates strength for the company because it means that the ... Show more content on

This is a weakness for CBI because it could indicate that they are not collecting from their buyers in
efficient or timely manner. When a company has large amounts of funds that are uncollected they do
not have the cash on hand to purchase raw materials and pay expenses, which can negatively impact
its ability to turn a profit. This will be examined further when the average collection period is analyzed
later in this report. Between years 6 and 7 CBI s Total Assets have increased by 2.2% for a change of
$93,741. This shows strength in CBI because by increasing their assets they also increase their value.
This can help instill confidence in current as well as potential shareholders.
Between years 6 and 7 CBI s Accounts Payable and Notes Payable increased by 192% for a change of
$128,820. This indicates a weakness as the company has more than doubled their debts between these
two years. Significantly increasing debt can impact shareholder confidence, which could impact the
market value of CBI stock. Between years 6 and 7 CBI s Long Term Liabilities decreased by 5.6% for
a change of negative ($105,000). This indicates strength for CBI as it demonstrates that the company
as allocated monies to pay down their long term debt further reducing their liabilities. Between years 6
and 7 CBI s Retained Earnings increased by 17.4% for a change of $170,121. This is strength for CBI

Similes In There Will Come Soft Rains
In Bradbury s short story There Will Come Soft Rains there is an abnormal house that does everything
on a set time schedule. In this short story Bradbury uses similes to create setting in his story. For
example Then, like mysterious invaders, they popped into their burrows (Bradbury 1). This part of the
story is talking about tiny mouse robots come out of the walls to come clean up the house and go right
back into their burrows. Using this simile helps give a good idea to the reader of the setting by being
able to see how tiny mouse come out to clean then back into their burrows. Another simile Bradbury
uses to show setting is There was the sound like a great matted yellow hive of bees within a dark

Joseph Campbell Hero Monomyth
Life is a precious gift, as you only get one chance to become your best self. In life everyone has hopes
and dreams to find their calling to potentially make a difference in the world. In literature we are
presented with an abundance of epic hero stories, referring to fictional or non fictional characters that
have made a difference in their world. These characters grant the reader with entertaining stories
pertaining to historical or fictional events that reflect the hero s journey to making a triumphant
change. Joseph Campbell s theory that every hero has a similar journey to becoming their best self
commences with a call to an adventure. The call to adventure is the first and most important step in
Joseph Campbell s hero monomyth, A hero with a Thousand Faces. Although epic hero s either
fictional or non fictional have similar journeys while becoming a hero, each character has distinct
characteristics that present divergent outcomes. Two of the most evident characteristics that come to
mind when thinking of a hero is bravery and strength. Amongst Gilgamesh, Beowulf, Luke
Skywalker, Sunjata, and Rostam they re all brave strong men with their own traits that shape them into
heroes. All five of these men s lives begin in an ordinary world when they receive a call to an
adventure. Each hero has the choice to either refuse or accept the journey that they have been called
upon. In The Hero With A Thousand Faces, Campbell s gives an example of how the call to adventure

The Contributions of the Iroquois Essay
The Contributions of the Iroquois
The Native American Indian tribe called the Iroquois contributed greatly toward America. They have
many stories about the world, and how things came to be the way they are. They have one story about
the creation of the world. They use oral traditional elements in this story which is represented by
nature. They also use a romantic aspect, which is represented by God s and the super natural. In the
beginning there were two worlds. The lower world, and the upper world. Everything existed in total
darkness. The upper world was to hold mankind, and the lower world was where all of the monsters
lived. A woman gave birth too twins. One twin was the good mind and the other was the evil mind.

They both wanted control over of the universe. In the end the good mind wins and the evil mind sinks
to eternal doom. After the battle the good mind visits the people and teaches them what they will need
to know in order to survive. One of the most important Native American groups in North American
history is the Iroquois. The Iroquois Indians have been estimated to have been around as early as 900
ad. They lived in what are called long houses. The long houses were built in rows of one or two. They
could be up to 200 feet long and 20 feet wide. These homes accommodated 5 to 20 families. They had
a central hole in the center of the house that was used for a fire that all of the families used. The
houses were covered in elm bark on the outside. The villages were for the most part permanent. They
only moved villages when they needed to. A reason for moving the village would have been if they
had used up all of the fertile land. The Iroquois moved about every 20 years. The Iroquois lived in
what is today upstate New York and parts of Canada along the ST. Lawrence River Valley. The
Iroquois were once one strong nation. In the mid 1500 s the Europeans started moving into the St.
Lawrence River Valley, and the Nation was split up. It was split into five Nations. The Mohawk,
Seneca, Oneida, Onondaga, and the Cayuga. Each Nation was free to peruse their own interests. In
1570 the League of Iroquois Nation was formed. The Iroquois Indians were farmers and

Abortions
The word, abortion has currently flooded every single corner of the social media and hence, it is no
surprise that we are seeing this word everywhere. Abortion is a medical method used to end a
pregnancy and terminate the fetus that has formed in a female s uterus. According to an Internet
dictionary called Merriam Webster, the definition of abortion is the termination of a pregnancy that
results in the death of the embryo or fetus as a spontaneous expulsion of a human fetus during the first
12 weeks of gestation.
Abortion has been and probably one of the most controversial topics that is being discussed or
squabbled around the world. There are two groups of people who have ... Show more content on

Before delving deeper into the history and current debates over abortions, it is important to look at the
fact of its existence in the United States. According to studies released in 2005 by the Physicians for
Reproductive Choice and Health (PRCH) and The Guttmacher Institute, there were 1.29 million
abortions performed in this country. Research by the same group shows that in 1994, approximately
half of all pregnancies in the United States were unintended, with only about half of those actually
ending in abortion. In comparison to other countries, the U.S. accounted for three percent of
worldwide abortions in 1995 (PRCH and Guttmacher). As we can see from these statistics, the number
of abortions has been significantly increased. Millions of unborn babies are terminated out of their
choice because of abortion. This is not a good way of resolving the unwanted or unexpected
pregnancy and method should be practiced in reducing the number of abortions. In order to know
more about abortion, a historical explanation on this topic is necessary. There are different reasons
abortions are being performed and knowing them is one of the best ways to get a deeper insight
towards the entire background of the abortions. Abortion is a method that has been used by the people
for more than thousands of years. However, due to the over numbered of abortions we have in the

Marriage And Divorce In The United States
Marriage and Divorce
Love: (noun) an intense feeling of deep affection or (verb) to feel a deep romantic or sexual
attachment to someone or, how we defined it in class, an action which sacrifices itself for others. Love
can be defined in many different ways. And there are also many different views of love itself. We,
humans, attach to and crave the feelings of love and being loved. But as sinful people our view of love
and marriage is not always biblically accurate. Whether it s sex before marraige, marriage of a man

a depressed state knowing that no matter what the women in the poem does, she can never repay what
her father has done for her. Add this with the fact the narrator mentions she plans to continue this

Effects Of Exponential Population Growth
1) What is exponential population growth? I found this a bit confusing the more I researched it. My
understanding of Exponential is when something grows at a rate that doubles 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, etc.
However, it has a little different context when applied to population. The explanation I found that
seems the clearest is as a population s per capita (individual) growth rate stays the same regardless of
population size, the population grows faster and faster as it gets larger (Khan, 2017). 2) Is the global
population growing exponentially and why? This answer (to me) can be yes and no. According to
Roser and Ortiz Ospina (2017), actual growth is declining, but the population is rising. In the 20th
century, the world s population quadrupled; but will not double in the 21st. The fastest doubling period
was 1950 1987 (37 years) when the population grew from 2.5 billion to 5 billion. Since 1962 when the
growth rate was 2.1%, the growth rate has slowed along with the doubling rate. It is also estimated
that the world s population will reach 11 billion by 2088, but will have taken nearly 100 years to get
there. As resources begin to taper off, so will growth this is known as Logistic Growth. I do not
believe we are there yet, however, we are heading there. I do not know if this is an indicator or not,
but Japan is experiencing a population shift where the elderly outnumber the younger and is expected

Analysis Of Toni Morrison s The
Perception is everything. People never know what is going on with the other race or side. In Toni
Morrison s Recitatif she brings up racism and the societal normal. She never reveals race of either of
the girls in this story. Never knowing the race of the girls other than they are two different races so
how one race never knows that the other is thinking about or where they are coming from. In this story
two girls meet and become friends and go separate directions. They continue to meet throughout their
lives and try to rekindle the childhood friendship as adults. In this story two girls from very different
back grounds and different races become fast friends. This shows how children do not know the
differences or the color lines that society has put into place. As children gender, race, and religion is
never an issue. Racism is something that society has created. Society has made racism one of the main
barriers throughout the world. In the story the two girls are friends and live in a group home. The girls
were witnesses to some bad things carried out by the older girls in the home. They end up separating
and going different ways in life. When they meet up later while rekindling their relationship begin to

ESAP was a package with instruments to be adhered to, and these were the components:
1. Reduction of government expenditure through privatization
2. Removing wage controls
3. Removing controls on exchange rates
4. Removing subsidies on basic goods
5. Removal of price control measures
The basis of these components was to let the market control the economy and reduce government bills
thereby cutting the expenditure. Although the neo liberalists favor the IMF and WB reform packages,
the ESAP were to a larger extent disastrous in the different sectors of the economy ranging from
people s lives, health, education, agriculture and the macro and micro economy in Zimbabwe.
According to Dhliwayo (2001), the decision to want a major economic reform programs in Zimbabwe
dates back to the beginning of the 1980s, with the main aim of attracting aid from international donors
so that the country might close both the resource and trade gaps in order to meet its economic targets.
The ESAP was sought to transform Zimbabwe s

Persuasive Essay On Flossing
Growing up going to the dentist we have all been told to always floss our teeth. You may remember
going through those gruesome appointments where the dentist are flossing our teeth for us and it kind
of hurts, feels weird, maybe even made our gums feel rubbery. And every few minutes when they are
flossing our teeth; they make us take the tube out our mouth that s sucking all the saliva in our mouth
and spit in the little bowl. In that spit, if you haven t been flossing you usually see a lot of blood come
out. And it doesn t stop. Then when you leave they give you a little bag of dental goodies for you to
have. If you were like myself growing up, you probably forgot all the time. And it was an endless
cycle at the dentist. Because of this I have spent a great amount of time this past month on flossing
and why you should take time to properly floss your teeth every day. According to, US News they had
an article published by Steve Sternberg in 2013 where they stated that on a national level those who
floss daily amount to 30 percent of the population. Just over 37 percent report less than daily flossing;
slightly over 32 percent say they never floss. This means that only 30 percent of people nationally
floss at least once a day. And the other 70 percent of people floss here and there or not at all. This is
very sad and disturbing because according to Lisa Zamosky on Web MD in 2014 flossing does about
40 percent of the work required to remove sticky bacteria, or plaque, from

Essay about The Career of Respiratory Therapist
Respiratory Therapist Respiratory care makes a difference. And there are reasons why a Respiratory
Therapist would be a great job. A guest speaker came into our class to explain more about the job. He

units. They are pretty busy throughout their day. Respiratory Therapist would have to be friendly and
have good social skills to deal with different patients. Also, have a strong stomach, because they deal
with a lot of nasty things. On the plus side there is always the opportunities. Job opportunities for a
Respiratory Therapist are great. Any health careers are always in need. The salary for being a
Respiratory Therapist is roughly $59,000 a year. The salary seems to go up each year, because the
demand for this job is in great need in most areas. The benefits of being a Respiratory Therapist is just
knowing you helped someone in need. Which makes you feel better about yourself. Also, there?s only
about 5% paper work involved, which isn?t a lot at all. But then there is always the negative aspects of
the job, which involve dealing with nasty things. Such as spit, blood, vomiting, and more. Overall, it?s
a good job to pursue. In conclusion, the speaker that introduced the class to this job, covered
everything you needed to know. Every job has the good and the bad. But helping others makes people

Geography In David Foster s Life
In this chapter, Foster explains how geography is more than just hills, streams, and grasslands it brings
history along with it, and has the ability to shape a character s actions and personality. In addition, he
alludes to the Russians; a people whose toughness and tenacity in defending their homeland matched
the merciless elements (Foster 173), in order to show how the geography, or place, a person lives in
can affect their overall being. Foster claims that geography can also define or even develop character
(Foster 175); he says that traveling back to your real home can help you discover your true self,
because that is where your loved ones are; that is where you grew up; that is where you know each
tree and each stream; and that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, when Victor first returns to his home, he is comforted by the familiarness of it: ...the
delight I took in again beholding thy streams, thy mountains, and, more than all, thy lovely lake!
(Shelly 67). He knows the geography of his homeland; it is where he grew up, and it is where he will
finally see his loved ones again. However, he knows why he is really there it is for the terrible murder
of his younger brother, William. When unable to enter the town, Victor decides to visit the woods
where William was killed. As he approaches the woods, it begins to rain slowly, and as he gets closer
the rain becomes more vicious. When he arrives he exclaims, William, dear angel! this is thy funeral,
this thy dirge! (Shelly 68). A flash of lightning reveals the silhouette of the ghastly murderer, his own
creation, glooming in the midst of trees. This place now holds the memory of this forever for Victor,
these are the woods where his brother died, and if he is ever to see these woods again, the memory
will come rushing back with them. Not only is this his brother s death bed, but it is also where he
discovers that his creation is the cause of the terrible tragedy. And what a more fitting place to have
this memory? The looming trees, the rushing stream, the sound of the rain pouring over everything,

The Power Of The Prime Minister Has Too Much Power
Introduction One of the most powerful and influential members of the Canadian government is the
Prime Minster of Canada. It has been stated that the Prime Minister of Canada has far more power
within the Canadian system of government than the President of America has in the American System
(Caron, 2017). This excess power the Prime Minister has when compared to the President of American
shows the difference ranges of power top leaders can have in their specific country. However, is the
amount of power the Prime Minister has in Canada too much? To determine if the Prime Minister has
too much power there are a few things that need to be considered. The first is the responsibilities of
the Prime Minister and the power these responsibly give the position. Looking at how much power the
Prime Minister has in relation to the amount of responsibilities placed on that government role will
give insights into the necessities of that power. Next, reviewing the history of powers the Prime
Minister has over the years will show a timeline of a gradual increase in power. Finally, to determine
if the Prime Minister has too much power recent events must be discussed in which the Prime Minister
has abused their powers. To fully understand how the amount of power the Prime Minister has can
impact the government, there will be a focus on one specific example of who calls elections
throughout. Overall, in examining the responsibilities and powers of the Prime Minister in relation to

Reflection Paper On The Teaching Of Santa
Things aren t always black and white and the decisions we make as parents are often a result of our
own heartaches and pains. Which is why to answer the question as to why we did, what we did,
concerning the teaching of Santa comes in the form of a story for me.
For me, as a parent, my goal was for my children to know the truth and to live a life of truth. I wanted
my kids to love Jesus more than life itself. I wanted them to know and experience the life in Christ I
had come to know as teenager in a miserable spot. I knew the King of Kings and Lord of Lord and
wanted that to be the center of our home. I knew if they knew the truth, the truth would set them free.
When I was little I had a brother and a sister and real parents. My real parents taught me about Santa
Claus. The night before Christmas we put out a glass of milk and a plate of cookies. Christmas
morning the milk was partially gone and all the cookies were gone except a little moon shaped sliver,
proof that Santa had come and that he was real and of course, then there were presents wrapped under
the Christmas tree.
There was so much excitement that one Christmas Eve at bedtime I couldn t settle down. I could see
down the hall right into our living room. Switching places with my little brother, who slept at the
opposite end of the bunk bed, was the remedy for my restlessness and I quickly fell asleep. The next
morning he told me he saw Santa Claus.. I asked what he looked like and how he got in. He

Pain Pump Balls
Introduction and Clinical Question
My current position is a clinical lead nurse on a surgical/orthopedic floor, we receive a wide variety of
patients with a large concentration of them being post operative knee or hip replacements. Over the
last year and a half our surgeons and anesthesiologists have implemented the use of continuous
peripheral nerve blocks (CPNB), often referred to as pain pump balls, specifically we use the OnQ
balls. The On Q infusion device is an elastomeric device with a flow regulator that controls the flow of
a local anesthetic agent through a peripheral catheter (Burnett, 2011). The pain pump balls are
intended to decrease post op pain and maximize patient s ability to participate in physical therapy. The

I then switched to a more specific database, CINAHL and used keywords: nerve, block, continuous
and received over 170 results. It is rather difficult to find raw data, such as an individual set of vitals
or pain assessment, that has not already been interpreted and put to theory but, data regarding the
pumps themselves were made easily accessible. OnQ states their pumps are filled with 550 mls of the
anesthetic and set to a standard flow rate of 6 mls per hour (Postoperative pain, 2016). By using this
data and determining how many hours the pump will last the patient then becomes meaningful and
then considered information.
Information
The information section of the continuum is where data is put in context. One of the studies I came
across found that with the use of CPNB s pain scores were significantly lower at the 12 hours
postoperative time point (P = 0.002) and at 2 weeks postoperatively (Ding, 2015). There were also
studies that looked at how the use of CPNB s expedited the process of rehabilitation stating with the
block there was a noted decrease in the time until adequate mobilization (Machi, 2015). A study of
155 post op joint replacement patients looked specifically at pain scale ratings before and during
therapy, they found that overall, baseline at rest as well as with activity pain scores were less in the
group with continuous nerve block, and mean opioid consumption was significantly less in those
patients[with CPNB s] (Ardon,

The Earth Is A System Response To The Climate Of The Earth
The climate of our planet is a system response to the geography, biosphere, anthropogenic activities
and occasional/cyclic geological/astronomical events.
Owing to the gigantic nature of the system, the Earth has a slow response time and manifests
differently in different parts of the world. And the spatial and temporal changes are miniscule, making
it difficult to comprehend the severity for an uniniated person, since these changes can be easily lost in
the noise of interannual variability. In this context, uninitiated include every person who doesn t

attain socio political ends. During the
Las Vegas Shooting of 2017, websites such as Google/Facebook painted the wrong person as guilty

serves as a fine example. The mistake has urged both Google and Facebook to enhance their fact

Apart from the truth of the message, the content of the message should resonate with the audience.
The message of climate change, though appears grim, should be given a positive spin such as, an

people who don t want to join in with what they are expected to do. They are outcasts just because
they like different things. Both of our texts we read, From Bad Boy , and I was a Skinny Tomboy Kid ,

I am not sure how many years I met with Sue, though my reference to years and not weeks already

need to dive in to understand what you are reading and only afterwards do the contents emerge. After

her home based in Hampstead Heath. Sue was a qualified psychotherapist, or I m assuming perhaps
she was a counsellor? Not checking her credentials, she explained she specialised in psychosynthesis;

Forecasting A Hurricane Essay
When we hear about hurricanes on the news or how one might be closing in on where we live we
mostly think of how we are going to protect our self. However, there is one thing that I think most
people do not stop and ponder, which is how does a hurricane even get forecast? From the direction it
is going to be headed, to how it is categorized. The group that preforms all forecasting for tropical
cyclone activity is the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and they cover the Atlantic and Eastern
Pacific basins throughout North America. To start it begins with visual observations of the hurricane
using reconnaissance airplanes, satellites, ships, buoys, radars, and an assortment of land based
equipment. Likewise, most of the storm s projected path and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Another tool that has recently been in use to monitor hurricanes is the NASA Global Hawk, which is
an experimental unmanned aircraft that is used to test possible operational capabilities within a
hurricane. Likewise, once a hurricane is projected to become a threat to land, the hurricane is
immediately monitored by the U.S. Air Force, and NOAA hurricane aircraft, and land stations.
One of the biggest assets that are in use is the Chief, Aerial Reconnaissance Coordination, All
Hurricanes (CARCAH) which organizes tropical cyclone scouting flights. These flights gather data
about the storm and it is sent back to the ground team of CARCAH and thoroughly checked for any
errors, before being given to the NHC and then released to the public. Another asset that is used is the
Automated Surface Observations Stations (ASOSs) and instrumented weather balloons (radiosondes)
which can deliver supplementary measurements as needed.
Overall, a lot of information goes into giving hurricane forecasts to make sure that people that might
be effected are told ahead of time so that if an evacuation is needed it can be done in the needed time

The weather affects us constantly, whether rain or shine. Tropical storms and hurricanes have been in
the news a lot lately. Since I live on the Gulf of Mexico I have learned that during hurricane season it
is critical to pay attention to the weather and be prepared for a hurricane. I think about how much
more damage would be caused and how many lives could be lost if we didn t have an understanding of
the weather. Even today with resources such as the weather channel and local news reports we cannot
prevent damage to the environment completely. We can however evacuate people to save lives and
build better hurricane resistant buildings in hurricane prone areas. The National Hurricane Center is a
component of the National Centers for Environmental Prediction. (nhc.noaa.gov) The National
Hurricane Center is a great on line tool. It has information such as; local forecast, cyclone forecast,

The Mathematics Of Algebra And Algorithms
Anna Safavi
Algebra and algorithm are two of the most used branches of mathematics. They are used in everyday
life, algebra is used in financial planning, physical health and cooking, and algorithms are used in
driving and finding the shortest path, scheduling and in computer programming.
The history of algebra dates back to 1800 BC, in countries such as India, China, Greece, Persia and
England. With the understanding that algebra and algorithms have a huge impact on our lives today,
we will take a look at the history of algebra and algorithms, notable people that helped in their
creation and the things that influenced what we know today about algebra and algorithms. This paper
will go into depth in the influences of Islam on the creation and growth of algebra and algorithms as
separate branches of mathematics. We will look at the Golden age of Islam and how it influenced
many scientists, astronomers, geographers and physicians as well as mathematicians. Also we will
take a look at one notable mathematician of that time, Al Khwarizmi who created algebra and
algorithms, who is known as the father of algebra.
The work of mathematicians and scientists like Al Khwarizmi in 820 CE is the result of the influences
of Islam on the culture and knowledge of a specific time in our world, which is also known as the
Golden Age of Islam. It was during that time that Al Khwarizmi wrote the Compendious book of
balancing and calculations from which the word Algebra is derived from. Later

Negative Impact On Social Media
Social Media today seems like it is always compared to a drug, a lot of people are addicted to it.
Considering where technology is right now we aren t addicted to Social Media, it just turns out to be
our daily essential for information that we crave for. Technology has unlocked faster communication
and the ability to spread information quickly. Which allows us to connect with the world and discover
other people s perspectives, creating a more diverse view and opinion of topics and information. In
addition, not all information is truthful, especially the widespread of fabricated news, but with
technology and social media a lot of people can fact check information instead of getting news from
mainstream media outlets that alter news to acquire more revenue. And if Social Media is so bad, why
does everyone still use it everyday? With all that said, I think that social media impacts people,
especially Millennials more positive than negative considering that it is a powerful tool that almost
everyone can use. A plethora of information with diverse perspectives at your fingertips and accessing
it in an instant. I believe that smartphones and computers is a growing standard among Millennials

Lending Tree Home Loans And Home Loan Lenders
Lending Tree portends to act as an online conciliator between individuals looking for home loans and
home loan lenders. The premise is that by connecting several lenders with the client, or rather making
several lenders aware of a potential customer, that the loan with the best interest rate will rise to the
top of the stack. Lending Tree claims to offer debt consolidation and to lower one s monthly interest
rates. The company s advertising campaign seems to suggest that Lending Tree will act as a negotiator
for the client, urging banks to compete for your business. While this is not exactly the case, using the
site essentially amounts to shopping around for a better deal which, of course, is better than buying on
impulse. Lending Tree Home Loans takes your information, including your financial goals, and runs a
credit check. At this point the service submits this information to a number of lenders. This is meant to
create the impression that banks are competing for your business, when in fact the client is only
receiving basic service offers from lenders who have been made aware of her or him by Lending Tree.
Many customers have had the experience of receiving offers from lenders during non business hours
within minutes of submitting their query. This is suspicious, as it seems clear that in these cases
Lending Tree has acted as little more than an advertising service for the lenders. This would mean that
Lending Tree s real clientele are the lending firms, who are

Abortions Should Remain Legal Essay
Abortion has been preformed for over thousands of years. It was first started for the fear among the
native Anglo Saxon women. They believed that the population would be dominated by the children of
the incoming immigrants, who had higher birth rates at the time. In the mid to late 1800s, states began
legalizing abortion but antiseptics were unfamiliar, hospitals were not common, and doctors did not
have the knowledge to understand abortion. As years went on, the scientific method began to take over
medical practice, technology and it increased the prevention of infection. Abortion procedures became
more effective and much safer. The only problem was the states that were anti abortion, led women

Over time, the intensity of anti abortion violence decreased. Today abortion is still one of the biggest
controversies. Many people think it is immoral and believe having an abortion is murder but the point
of abortion, according to its definition, is to terminate a pregnancy by the removal from the uterus of a
fetus or embryo prior to being capable of normal growth. An embryo is not a human, but it does have
the right to life. While a fetus is an unborn baby more than eight weeks after conception; this means
that before those eight it is not a human. This supports the claim of the embryo not encountering pain
during the abortion and life forming at conception. The government doesn t have the say to tell
women what to do with their bodies. Women have the right to their own bodies just like how everyone
has the right to make their own choices. It doesn t matter if the government is listening to public
demand or even if a good percentage of the population is against abortion, women should still have
the right to be in authority of their reproductive system.
Every year more than a thousand cases of rape or incest are reported, where a pregnancy is a result.

Visual Art Plan By Otto Dix And James Gleeson
Visual art Plan
Artists all around the world have used metaphor in their pieces of work to convey meaning. A figure
of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally
applicable. Most if not all pieces of art you can see in a museum or out on the street have remanets of
metaphor beneath them. Artists use metaphor in their work to tell a story or a time period or in this
case meaning. As the old saying goes a picture is worth a thousand words. The artist distorts the image
to the way he or she wants to see it or would want others to see it. For example, Otto Dix and James
Gleeson are artists that are known for having and using metaphor and spirituality in their pieces of

Otto Dix was a great artist. His paintings were very strong with spirituality and metaphor this was
because he served in the first world war. Many of his paintings were of the first wold war because Dix
volunteered and became a machine gunner which exposed him to see death daily. Through his
experiences in the war he gained a lot of knowledge and saw a lot of things. One of his pieces stood
out to me the most. That piece was the wounded soldier. In this picture I can see a muddy ground with
blood splattered everywhere. The ground and the soldier almost looks like he is decaying. The soldiers
face has an expression of confusion and elements of fear across him. Given his mouth is wide open it
looks like he is in enormous amounts of pain and looks like he is screaming. This could be the face of
a person going through their last seconds before they die or get shot. His hand is squeezing his heart
like he got shot in the area. His helmet seems to be dirty and bloody as almost like he has been here

He attempted many tactics against the British army. At the Battle of Trafalgar, Napoleon amp;#8217;s loss was severe. The unexpected raid of the British admiral Lord Nelson, forced Napoleon to lose. Soon after this loss, Napoleon attempted to force Economic Blockades on Britain called the Continental System. He demanded that his conquered countries not trade with Britain, and asked Russia and Prussia to participate. The British counter to this move was to demand that any ship going to Europe, was to report in to Great Britain first. After a while, the French Navy was not able to hold off the British navy and the Continental System failed. The French Economy soon worsened and Napoleon continued to expand his empire. Napoleon then made many more moves stirring up more trouble. He named his brothers kings in conquered countries, and removed the Holy Roman Empire, setting up the Confederation of the Rhine. In life everyone has hopes and dreams to find their calling to potentially make a difference in the world. In literature we are presented with an abundance of epic hero stories, referring to fictional or non fictional characters that have made a difference in their world. These characters grant the reader with entertaining stories pertaining to historical or fictional events that reflect the hero s journey to making a triumphant change. Joseph Campbell s theory that every hero has a similar journey to becoming their best self commences with a call to an adventure. The call to adventure is the first and most important step in Joseph Campbell s hero monomyth, A hero with a Thousand Faces. Although epic hero s either fictional or non fictional have similar journeys while becoming a hero, each character has distinct characteristics that present divergent outcomes. Two of the most evident characteristics that come to mind when thinking of a hero is bravery and strength. Amongst Gilgamesh, Beowulf, Luke Skywalker, Sunjata, and Rostam they re all brave strong men with their own traits that shape them into heroes. • 17. Effects Of Exponential Population Growth 1) What is exponential population growth? I found this a bit confusing the more I researched it. My understanding of Exponential is when something grows at a rate that doubles 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, etc. However, it has a little different context when applied to population. The explanation I found that seems the clearest is as a population s per capita (individual) growth rate stays the same regardless of population size, the population grows faster and faster as it gets larger (Khan, 2017). 2) Is the global population growing exponentially and why? This answer (to me) can be yes and no. According to Roser and Ortiz Ospina (2017), actual growth is declining, but the population is rising. In the 20th century, the world s population quadrupled; but will not double in the 21st. The fastest doubling period was 1950 1987 (37 years) when the population grew from 2.5 billion to 5 billion. Since 1962 when the growth rate was 2.1%, the growth rate has slowed along with the doubling rate. It is also estimated that the world s population will reach 11 billion by 2088, but will have taken nearly 100 years to get there. As resources begin to taper off, so will growth this is known as Logistic Growth. I do not believe we are there yet, however, we are heading there. • 24. Geography In David Foster s Life In this chapter, Foster explains how geography is more than just hills, streams, and grasslands it brings history along with it, and has the ability to shape a character s actions and personality. In addition, he alludes to the Russians; a people whose toughness and tenacity in defending their homeland matched the merciless elements (Foster 173), in order to show how the geography, or place, a person lives in can affect their overall being. Foster claims that geography can also define or even develop character (Foster 175); he says that traveling back to your real home can help you discover your true self, because that is where your loved ones are; that is where you grew up; that is where you know each tree and each stream; and that is ... However, he knows why he is really there it is for the terrible murder of his younger brother, William. When unable to enter the town, Victor decides to visit the woods where William was killed. As he approaches the woods, it begins to rain slowly, and as he gets closer the rain becomes more vicious. When he arrives he exclaims, William, dear angel! this is thy funeral, this thy dirge! This place now holds the memory of this forever for Victor, these are the woods where his brother died, and if he is ever to see these woods again, the memory will come rushing back with them. Not only is this his brother s death bed, but it is also where he discovers that his creation is the cause of the terrible tragedy. And what a more fitting place to have this memory? • 25. The Power Of The Prime Minister Has Too Much Power Introduction One of the most powerful and influential members of the Canadian government is the Prime Minster of Canada. It has been stated that the Prime Minister of Canada has far more power within the Canadian system of government than the President of America has in the American System (Caron, 2017). This excess power the Prime Minister has when compared to the President of American shows the difference ranges of power top leaders can have in their specific country. However, is the amount of power the Prime Minister has in Canada too much? To determine if the Prime Minister has too much power there are a few things that need to be considered. The first is the responsibilities of the Prime Minister and the power these responsibly give the position. Looking at how much power the Prime Minister has in relation to the amount of responsibilities placed on that government role will give insights into the necessities of that power. Next, reviewing the history of powers the Prime Minister has over the years will show a timeline of a gradual increase in power. Finally, to determine if the Prime Minister has too much power recent events must be discussed in which the Prime Minister has abused their powers. To fully understand how the amount of power the Prime Minister has can impact the government, there will be a focus on one specific example of who calls elections throughout. Overall, in examining the responsibilities and powers of the Prime Minister in relation to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Which is why to answer the question as to why we did, what we did, concerning the teaching of Santa comes in the form of a story for me. For me, as a parent, my goal was for my children to know the truth and to live a life of truth. I wanted my kids to love Jesus more than life itself. I wanted them to know and experience the life in Christ I had come to know as teenager in a miserable spot. I knew the King of Kings and Lord of Lord and wanted that to be the center of our home. I knew if they knew the truth, the truth would set them free. When I was little I had a brother and a sister and real parents. My real parents taught me about Santa Claus. The night before Christmas we put out a glass of milk and a plate of cookies. Christmas morning the milk was partially gone and all the cookies were gone except a little moon shaped sliver, proof that Santa had come and that he was real and of course, then there were presents wrapped under the Christmas tree. There was so much excitement that one Christmas Eve at bedtime I couldn t settle down. I could see down the hall right into our living room. Switching places with my little brother, who slept at the opposite end of the bunk bed, was the remedy for my restlessness and I quickly fell asleep. The next morning he told me he saw Santa Claus.. Pain Pump Balls Introduction and Clinical Question My current position is a clinical lead nurse on a surgical/orthopedic floor, we receive a wide variety of patients with a large concentration of them being post operative knee or hip replacements. Over the last year and a half our surgeons and anesthesiologists have implemented the use of continuous peripheral nerve blocks (CPNB), often referred to as pain pump balls, specifically we use the OnQ balls. The On Q infusion device is an elastomeric device with a flow regulator that controls the flow of a local anesthetic agent through a peripheral catheter (Burnett, 2011). The pain pump balls are intended to decrease post op pain and maximize patient s ability to participate in physical therapy. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I then switched to a more specific database, CINAHL and used keywords: nerve, block, continuous and received over 170 results. It is rather difficult to find raw data, such as an individual set of vitals or pain assessment, that has not already been interpreted and put to theory but, data regarding the pumps themselves were made easily accessible. OnQ states their pumps are filled with 550 mls of the anesthetic and set to a standard flow rate of 6 mls per hour (Postoperative pain, 2016). By using this data and determining how many hours the pump will last the patient then becomes meaningful and then considered information. Information The information section of the continuum is where data is put in context. One of the studies I came across found that with the use of CPNB s pain scores were significantly lower at the 12 hours postoperative time point (P = 0.002) and at 2 weeks postoperatively (Ding, 2015). There were also studies that looked at how the use of CPNB s expedited the process of rehabilitation stating with the block there was a noted decrease in the time until adequate mobilization (Machi, 2015). A study of 155 post op joint replacement patients looked specifically at pain scale ratings before and during therapy, they found that overall, baseline at rest as well as with activity pain scores were less in the group with continuous nerve block, and mean opioid consumption was significantly less in those patients[with CPNB s] (Ardon, ... The group that preforms all forecasting for tropical cyclone activity is the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and they cover the Atlantic and Eastern Pacific basins throughout North America. With the understanding that algebra and algorithms have a huge impact on our lives today, we will take a look at the history of algebra and algorithms, notable people that helped in their creation and the things that influenced what we know today about algebra and algorithms. This paper will go into depth in the influences of Islam on the creation and growth of algebra and algorithms as separate branches of mathematics. We will look at the Golden age of Islam and how it influenced many scientists, astronomers, geographers and physicians as well as mathematicians. Also we will take a look at one notable mathematician of that time, Al Khwarizmi who created algebra and algorithms, who is known as the father of algebra. The work of mathematicians and scientists like Al Khwarizmi in 820 CE is the result of the influences of Islam on the culture and knowledge of a specific time in our world, which is also known as the Golden Age of Islam.
