Social Darwinism During The Gilded Age
Social Darwinism was a popular term during the late 19th century. According to Social Darwinism,
the human race evolves only through competition and only the fit survive while the weak cease to
exist. Therefore Social Darwinism applied during the Gilded age meant that the wealthy represented
the fit, whereas the poor represented the weak. Wealthy men like John D. Rockefeller used this to
justify their tremendous wealth gain. However, American industries expanded rapidly; new
technologies and innovations came about and took over the cities which increased production. Many
of Americans and immigrants migrated to the cites to get jobs; but the working conditions during the
time were very poor. Employees worked long hard hours in harsh environments and received little
pay, which caused many people to live in poverty. This poverty issue formulated the theory of Social
Darwinism. Many people used this theory to justify the distinction between the rich and the poor.
Social Darwinism also allowed businessmen to have merit because it allowed them to expand and earn
money. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rockefeller was the world s most wealthiest man of his time. He was the founder of the Standard Oil
company. During his time being alive he collected over 336 billion dollars. Rockefeller achieved this
by using horizontal integration. Horizontal integration is where you buy out your competition and
Rockefeller did this but you can also say that by buying out his competition it created a monopoly.
Anyway John D. Rockefeller s assertion on Social Darwinism was that if you were made rich then it
was God s will. Rockefeller also said that the growth of a large business is merely a survival of the
fittest. Rockefeller donated over 500 million dollars to different causes such as Universities and the

The Earthquake Of India, China, Bangladesh, And Bhutan
On April 25, 2015 the country of Nepal and the surrounding countries of India, China, Bangladesh,
and Bhutan experienced an earthquake with the magnitude of 7.8 (Kumar). The earthquake triggered
an avalanche on Mount Everest killing nineteen people. Another avalanche was triggered in Langtang
Valley a reported two hundred and fifty people are missing. Aftershocks continued well there after one
reaching as high as 6.7. The death toll has not reached well over 7,250 (Kumar). The number of
injured is 14,122. The UN estimates well over three million people need food and other assistance.
Thousands of people have fled the areas especially around Kathmandu fearing aftershocks or trying to
get to family member s homes in remote areas. At one point Nepal was one of the least urbanized
countries in the world (NORMAN). They are now accelerating in the world of urbanization.
Kathmandu and a few other neighboring cities many of buildings are somewhat structurally sound, the
buildings are usually pagoda style and shikhara style (NORMAN). Many of the new buildings are
well maintained, the older residential buildings and smaller temples have fallen into despair

The Peninsular Oriental Steam Navigation Company
General Information
In 1822, the very first cruise line, known as the Peninsular Oriental Steam Navigation Company, was
founded by Brodie McGhie Willcox and Arthur Anderson, both experienced in the shipping industry.
Its first ship was the 206 ton paddle steamer called the William Fawcett, which was first deployed in
1835 from London to Spain and Portugal. More recently, in the 1960 s and early 1970 s, three of the
world s largest cruise lines were established. The first one, Norwegian Cruise Line, was introduced
when airline travel was becoming increasingly popular. The cruise industry declined significantly
from this competition. The second cruise line, Royal Caribbean International, was also experiencing
the same challenges as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This ship has 2,706 staterooms and a maximum capacity of 6,296 passengers. In addition to Allure of
the Seas, Royal Caribbean also owns the second largest cruise ship, Oasis of the Seas. In fact, Royal
Caribbean owns 7 of the 10 largest cruise ships in the world. Its newest cruise ship, Anthem of the
Seas, has the most innovative technology onboard such as skydiving and a 360Β° view of the ocean.
Has the cruise industry evolved over the past years?
The cruise industry has definitely evolved over the years to meet the changing demands and
expectations of its passengers. The most important changes in the industry over the years are the
introduction of shore excursions, new cruise routes and changes in the ships themselves. The first
cruise ships offered few to no excursions while all the modern cruise lines offer over 100 excursions
per cruise. These excursions can include participating in an actual boat race in Philipsburg, climbing
waterfalls in Ocho Rios and scuba diving which is always very popular among passengers. They are
designed to give the passengers a new and thrilling experience that they cannot attain at home. In the
old days, the only cruise routes available were transatlantic and small European routes. The
transatlantic route became unpopular in the 1960 s as air travel shortened travelling time from less
than 20 hours by air versus four days by cruise. However, with the launch of newer,

Romania s Struggle With Communism
To the world outside, the masked country of Romania, although rarely viewed in media, was known as
a picturesque country filled with many profitable resources such as its fertile land, petroleum, and
mineral deposits, however, behind the Iron Curtain, lay a more secretive nation, deprived of its rights,
ignored by its leaders, and suffering under the taxing regime of Communism. Before Communism was
administered, Romania had a trivial communist party which was often overlooked in politics. At the
turn of World War II, in 1941, Central European ideals influenced Romania, bringing light of a regime
that valued civil equity. During the war, to prevent Russia from overthrowing Romania, they sided
with Germany, causing Soviets to occupy in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In its claims to make Romanian children receive the finest education in the world, Communist leaders,
including Stefan Voitec, the Minister of Education, limited the access of education and narrowed
educational rights in order to indoctrinate Communist values and instill a sense of faithfulness to
Communism in the Romanian youth. Throughout the years 1947 to 1989, although the regime was not
embraced, communistic beliefs were integrated into the educational system forcefully, and all
resistance towards the reforms were squandered (Phillips 7). In order to encourage and inflict their
values upon students, special privileges were given to Communist children, trained professors in
universities and secondary schools were purged and replaced with pro Communist politicians and
intellectuals, and university acceptance was based off of political alliances rather than pre university
scores, ensuring that educational advances would only be provided to Communist learners. The
Church, which promotes Article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, stating that
everyone has the right to education, teaches that the gift of knowledge is a basic human right that all
individuals must receive despite their religious, ethnic, or political disagreements, however, when
educational facilities deny the acceptance of a bright individual who supports a different regime, it is
seen that

How Does Pinchot Protect Environmental Ethics
Many individuals have different opinions as to whether or not humans have an ethical obligation
under justice to defend anything other than themselves. Still, many people agree with Gifford Pinchot
s belief system in that the purpose of conservation is to protect natural resources to produce the
greatest good for the greatest number for the longest time ( Environmental ethics ). He held the beliefs
of a utilitarian, meaning that he cared about all sentient beings, which includes plants and animals
because he included them in his moral community. Therefore, utilitarian s take care of these beings not
only to promote life for future generations, but for those living organisms as well. They believe that it
is their obligation in order to

Immanuel Kant And The Categorical Imperative
Immanuel Kant, a German philosopher, specifically a deontologist, has two imperatives: the
hypothetical imperative and the categorical imperative. These imperatives describe what we ought to
do and are only applicable to rational beings because they are the only beings that recognize what they
ought or ought not to do. The hypothetical imperative is when an individual s actions are reasoned by
their desire, so they only act with the intention of fulfilling their desires. The categorical imperative is
what human beings ought to do for their own sake regardless of whatever else they might desire. The
categorical imperative has two formulations. Kant s first formulation of the categorical imperative
states that one ought to only act on maxims that can be used as universal law. This formulation is
based on its urgency and unity in the society. When a maxim cannot be determined a universal law,
then it is morally impermissible to act upon it. Apply this formulation to the example of the lying
promise: this cannot be willed as a universal law because trust will no longer be a part of society. If
everyone were to make a lying promise to get money without retribution, then people will eventually
recognize they are being deceived, which will result in a more selfish community. When one wills
something as a universal law, then it is for the intention to better the state and community. This proves
that the lying promise is not a maxim to live by. Kant s second formulation of

Essay about Poetry Analysis Mezzo Cammin
Mezzo Cammin
The poem Mezzo Cammin by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow explains his regretful life and his
reasoning at why he didn t live it to its full potential and how he looks at his past. It then looks to his
future as being near and bearing a huge weight down on him. The way Longfellow talks about his life
is depressing. He doesn t speak of the good accomplishments, only the things he hasn t done until he
looks back into the past and then forward at how the future may be. In the first part of the poem
Longfellow talks about his life being halfway over and everything that stopped him from really living
his life. In the very first couple of lines he says I have let the years slip from me and have not fulfilled
the aspiration of my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He describes it strangely, And hear above me on the autumnal blast The cataract of Death far
thundering from the heights. These lines are very open ended and in one way he could be speaking of
death as far away by the way he describes the thundering waterfall very high up. The reference to
height could mean its at a good distance that he can see it, but its still far away. It could also mean he
has more of his life to live up to and his regretful past doesn t mean much to him anymore because he
has his future to look forward to as he is on his metaphorical hill of life. In another view, he could be
describing death as being right around the corner and him looking right at it when he describes the
waterfall. You could look at it as him having a life threatening disease and him knowing his death is
coming soon, which could also describe the way he views his past full of regret. If he knew the end is
coming soon and he doesn t believe he fully lived his life to how he wishes, the regret is
understandable and the cataract of death makes sense in this point of view. Overall, this poem shows
the past, present, and future of the writer. His life is full of regret at points and then seems hopeful in
others. This poem could be viewed in many ways but mostly you understand it as a man who wishes
he could change his past because he knows his future is near and his life will soon be coming to an

Determinism And The Part It Plays With Free Will
Determinism is an idea that states that everything can be explained because it has an adequate reason
for being the way it is rather than a different way, meaning that the world has natural laws and
everything happens for a reason. This is important as many philosophers have argued between the
extent of determinism and the part it plays with free will, taking the claim that if our behavior is
governed by natural causes, we are not morally free. Everything will happen due to reasons that have
built upon themselves and bringing forth an effect, which then brings about more causes. This is
taking the case of hard determinism. This issue is very significant when talking about ethics, as blame
and morality surround free will, and if we do not have free will can we be held responsible for our
actions? Before we blame a person we must decide if they could have refrained from what they did or
if it was inevitable due to causal determinism. I believe that free will and fatalistic/ determinism both
have an effect on our human lives and the way we make our choices, contributing to our moral
freedom.
Determinism does not necessarily mean we make no choices; simply put, it is that we make our own
choices and decisions and they are part of the causal process whereby we create further effects in the
world, leading to inevitable causes. Leucippus believed that nothing occurs randomly; everything has
a specific reason. An argument for the claim is that determinism deprives us of the power

World War Two Essay example
World War Two
On June 18, 1812, President Madison of the United States and Congress declared war on Great
Britain. On June 25, the French emperor, Napoleon Bonaparte led his army in Europe across the
Nieman River into Russia.(1) Although these two events were thousands of kilometers apart they were
directly connected to each other. To some extent, the Americans declared war in protest against
measures that were part of Britain s effort to defeat Napoleon with the use of blockades. There are
many interesting aspects to the War of 1812, including the fact of why it even happened. Britain and
the United States had more reasons to remain friends than to start a war. The intent of this essay is to

The Twelve Congress, which received Madison s war message proved to be dominated by a group of
young men known as the War Hawks .(5) These men were chiefly from the west and south who
resented the injuries inflicted on the United States by Great Britain during the War for Independence,
and were seeking retribution.(6) Like many other Americans, they believed the manifest destiny of the
United States was to control all of British North America.
This American dream of major conquest of North America was made clear in a speech given by
Congressman Richard Johnston of Kentucky I shall never die contented until I see her [Britain]
expulsion from North America, and her territories incorporated with United States. (7) Mr. Felix
Grundy concurred with Mr. Johnston by stating I am willing to receive the Canadians as adopted
brethren;... I therefore feel anxious not only to add the Floridas to the south but the Canadas to the
north of this Empire... (8) America now had their major objective for the war and despite objections
by New England and New York, war was declared by a slim margin on June 18,1812.
Logically this war was a serious threat to Canada, since it was only in North America that the U.S.
could hope to defeat the British. Geographically, the struggle

Keeping Students In High School
People argue about whether to keep students in school until they turn 18. However, contrary to what
people may think school should keep students until they are of 18. Since people with high school
diploma have more money, less chance of getting into jail or getting public assistance.
Without a high school diploma, the students earn less money. In a 2009 graph the average income by
education stated that high school dropouts make $19,540. Meanwhile someone that has completed
high school makes around $27,380. With this knowledge we can infer some things such as, with the
dropout they could barely afford a place to live and food. But with the high school education that
person can get a place to live, food, and start going to college or a university.

April 14, 2015 marked Equal Pay Day this year, which shows how far into the new year the average
American woman would have to be employeed to earn what the average American man did last year.
Both genders see the lack of balance in the workplace. A lot of men and women believe America
needs to continue making changes to achieve eqaulity in the workplace. Accorging to the White
House, women working full time have to work nearly sixty more additional days, in order to earn what
men did at the end of last year. In 1980, the average woman would have had to work nearly three extra
months into May, just to catch up with men s earning s from the previous year (Patten, 2015). The pay
gap between men and women continues possibly because women put their careers on hold to care for
their families. Research shows that these types of choices can have a negative affect on long term
earnings. Approximately, four of ten mothers have taken a lot of time from work, which is thirty nine
percent. Approximately, forty two percent have reduced their work hours to care for a family member
or child. Also, twenty seven percent have quit work completely to care for family responsibilities and
even less men say the same. There is approximately twenty four percent of fathers that have taken a
lot of time off from work to care for family or children (Patten, 2015).

An Inspector Calls by J.B. Priestley is full of lies and...
J.B. Priestley sets the play in a lavish and happy environment. Without Priestley even telling the
audience that the play is set pre war it is obvious because of all the available luxuries and fineries such
as champagne glasses and dessert plates . The war caused great shortages in goods and food, which
led to rationing. No one in 1945 (when the play was written) would have been able to create a
luxuriant celebratory dinner. This cunning use of setting deliberately reminds the audience of some of
the luxuries lost because of the war.

The 1912 society was a wicked one with evidence of wrong doing, sinfulness, spite, vileness
(wickedness), a society in which there was no equality, democracy, or benefits. Without these
important factors, a society cannot function, and wickedness is decreed in society. Weakness and
wickedness is distributed throughout the play on an individual basis, mostly due to the hypocrisy and
aristocracy of society.
Mr Birling is delineated as a respectable and successful business man, with a wealthy family.
Although by looking beyond the text we can determine that Mr Birling was in fact a selfish, greedy
despot. This is not entirely Mr Birling s fault; it is more to do with the format of society.
Mr Birling was paying Eva twenty two an six (a subsistent amount of money). Eva requested twenty

was sacked.
The fact that Mr Birling acted, and fired Eva shows he was harsh in his actions. Also the fact that no
one found anything wrong with Mr Birling s action, which is an example of wrong doing defines
wickedness/weakness in society.
Sheila Birling s sub sequential actions also encouraged Eva Smith to commit suicide. Sheila was the

Women In Lysistrata
So often we imagine the people of the past as, if not quite stodgy, then definitely as less sexual than
the current generation. Aristophanes Lysistrata, takes that idea and turns it on its head, proving beyond
a shadow of a doubt that people have always been sexual beings with appetites similar to our own.
Aristophanes excels at the bawdy double entendre and certainly this play can be enjoyed as nothing
more than what it presents itself as, a farcical sexual comedy, but that would be doing it a great
disservice. Aristophanes used the comedic situations and the women in Lysistrata and their struggle

Pope John Paul II added a new set of mysteries, the luminous mysteries, which mark some of the
important teachings of Jesus life. Some Catholics carry rosaries with them everywhere, in pockets,
purses, or wallets.
Medals are small discs, usually made of metal, that depict images of Jesus, Mary, or a saint; they are
commonly worn as necklaces but show up in other formats as well. Theologically their purpose is to
remind the believer to be open to God s grace, but Catholics have traditionally believed them to carry
certain power. For instance, a Saint Christopher medal in cars is supposed to protect passengers, while
a necklace containing the Miraculous medal of Mary is said to protect its wearer. There are an
enormous number of different medals, each thought to provide a particular protection.
According to Church teaching, the most important sacramental is the use of blessings. Blessings are a
form of prayer asking God to grant grace to the person, place, or thing being blessed. Catholics often
say blessings before consuming meals, thanking God for the gift of the food they are about to eat.
Catholic parents have traditionally laid their hands on their children s heads as a form of blessing,

Egypt s Influence On The World
For the past few centuries, Egypt was ruled by foreigners that distributed wealth among their peers
and made the indigenous people their subjects. During the Nineteenth century, Egypt was ruled by

Napoleon Bonaparte from Egypt. Due to the increase pressure on the Ottoman Empire by Russia from
the North, Mehmet Ali parted ways and planned to build his own empire with military strength. Since
then, the leaders of Egypt have sustain power on owning majority of vast land. The land is used for

Because I couldn’t stop for death by Emily Dickson and...
First of all, based on both poems, the attitude of the poets is influenced by the diction of the poems as
well as tone and mood. In Emily Dickinson s poem, in line 1, 2 Because I couldn t stop for death He
kindly stopped for me the word death delivers a positive mood as the speaker seems respect and awe
death. Moreover, death is portrayed as a phenomenon that is beyond β€Ž
human s control. Death has its
own control; it is something that human cannot decide themselves but only death can do stop for
human, invite them into its carriage, not vice versa. In β€Ž
addition, the word kindly in the line presents
calmness to the readers as death is not something that human should scare off. Besides, the word
slowly and the phrase no haste in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, in contrast to Emily s poem, the speaker undervalues death s supremacy as its power is
actually not in its own control. It is a contradictory to Emily s poem. In line 9 Thou art slave to fate,
chance, kings, and desperate men indicates death as a slave as it does what has been ordered from the
superior ones. Death takes human s life not because he is willing to do so but because he is forced to
do so. In line 10 11, And dost with poison, war and sickness... can make us sleep as well the speaker
associates death with poison, war and sickness as death is not the only factor of human s deceases
which then the speaker posts rhetorical question for death to stop being proud. Also, the usage of
rhetorical questions like in line 2 For thou art not so makes death fragile. Further, the last line in this
poem And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die points out that at the end, the only one who
dies is death itself which will be discussed in the element of Christian theology in this essay. The
ending also eventually argues that death is weak and vulnerable, not in control and that is the reason
why human should not fear death. All the arguments made by the speaker in this poem creates death
less powerful and less control of itself which illustrates a condescending tone to elucidate death s
incapability to kill. Hence, both poets; Emily Dickinson and John Donne portray death as a
phenomenon that human should not fear. But

The Worst Miracle Drug For Gastrointestinal Patients
The Worst Miracle Drug Scientists from the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Italy
studied Ibuprofen, which originated as an anti acidic drug for gastrointestinal patients. The purpose of
the study was to assess the safety of non inflammatory drugs to treat cardiovascular disease (BMJ
2016, pg.1). Accordingly, of this study s 10 million participants, 92% had cardiovascular disease
caused by painkillers, and those who stopped using Ibuprofen reduced risk of worsening
cardiovascular condition. Various age ranges received different treatments. For minors, physicians
lowered doses as a precautionary measure. By contrast, long term users above age seventy seven who
were prescribed higher doses showed an increased risk of heart attack. Various ages, races, and sexes
were tested to generalize results. Hospitalization occurred in 95% of frequent ibuprofen users. Long
term usage showed destruction of the gastrointestinal tract. Ibuprofen was later found to lead to
stomach ulcers. The label clearly explains to consumers to consult a GI doctor before consumption.
Ibuprofen deprives the heart of oxygen enriched blood, which may result in heart failure. Readers will
draw focus on the alarm and potential health scares through medical evidence. As I compared the
British Medical Journal and the guardian, all relative information must be relayed throughout the
document. All research shown in the BMJ was fully factual evidence based upon the experiment. The

Mistakes In Sweat And The Gilded Six Bit
Everybody in their life has made mistakes, but there is a difference between the small mistakes that
people make on a daily basis, and those that can cause life altering events. In the three Zora Neal
Hurston stories, Sweat, Spunk, and The Gilded Six Bit, characters all make terrible mistakes that
affect the people that they love most. The outcomes of each story though are very different as the
characters face tough choices and deal with them in very different ways. Though these situations deal
with many of the same issues, the ability or inability for those in the stories to forgive individuals
shows their true character and values. In The Gilded Six Bits Joe and Missie May are able to forgive
one another because they both realize that their spouse isn t perfect, but in Sweat, Delia cannot forgive
Sykes as his sins run too deep. Joe and Missie May are in a loving relationship, and they truly in love
with one another. Missie May has made a mistake, as she has betrayed her husband not out of hatred,
but out of love. She sees how her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If Spunk were in Joe s shoes he would have felt less guilty as he would have been the one defending
his own wife. Spunk was the one who was sleeping with Joe s wife, and Spunk knows that he would
have done the same thing that Joe did if their places were reversed. There was no need to kill Joe, and
that is why Spunk feels so guilty. Spunk acts as though he is a very tough person and that he ain t
skeered of nothin , but he has feelings too (Hurston Spunk 4). He blames himself for the whole
situation, and he cannot forgive himself. In Sweat Sykes has actually beaten and hurt Delia for over
fifteen years. Sykes has brought about his own death as Delia says that he is going to reap his sowing
(Hurston Sweat 680). Unlike Spunk Delia had a justifiable reason to let Sykes die, and this is why she
feels less guilty than

The History Of Bristol s Economy
The history of Bristol s economy has undertaken a change in similar fashion to economic capitals
across world, namely London, yet to a smaller extent (Bassett et al 2002). The transformation of the
dockland region and subsequent development from the post war period has led this paper to focus
upon the financial sector. Bristol s past follows a parallel trend of dockland manufacturing centres post
World War 2 that became involved into finance because of temporal changes. Degeneration was led
through the absence of new port proposals that fell through from the Labour government, leading to
the rise of other economic sector to facilitate growth (Hoare 1986).The research undertaken in this
paper is specified to the numerous accountancy firms scattered across the city centre (Figure 1) and
narrowed to the largest four firms: PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC Figure 2), Ernst and Young (EY
Figure 3), KPMG (Figure 4) and Deloitte (Figure 5). The change in economic geography of Bristol
can be exemplified from the expansion of these financial services to promote new functions within the
economy. Historically, the financial sector of Bristol was a result of the redundant industries of the
manufacturing sector of the ports in the 1960s. During the 1970s change was beginning to occur with
57% of Bristol s 0.5 million population employed in the financial district of some form. The
development of the office work environment was a consequence of the movement of the finance

Advertisement Essay:
Skittle, Midas touch and Skittle pox are two of the most popular Skittle advertisements to date, Midas
touch being developed in 2007 by BBDO advertising agency with Skittle pox being created by DDB
advertising in 2015. Both adverts focus on a use of comedy and colour to make people remember the
advertisement, and both being made in english for a American/Australian focus. The Midas touch ad
winning a creativity award in 2007, and skittle pox being apart of Skittles huge marketing campaign,
both being to market the new era of skittle candies.
Both advertisements look at skittles as more than a candy, as in the Midas Touch advertisements it

The Skittle pox advertisement follows the stereotype of a boy and a girl meeting behind the bleachers,
but instead of sharing a romantic moment instead the girl eats one of the boys skittles and contracts
skittle pox herself, when in the Midas touch advertisement, there is no shown stereotype, but it does
align itself with the original Midas Touch story, where Midas was given the ability to turn anything he
touched into gold but in the advertisements instead of turning everything into gold, our main man Tim
turns everything into skittles. We, the audience, love Tim and connect an emotional attachment to him
as he is a soft lovable character who just wants to eat his own breakfast without turning it into skittles,
and there is one question that keeps us watching that skittle ad and that is if Tim touches a skittle does
it split into two skittles or does it stay the same? We ll never know. In the Skittle pox advertisements
we relate to Billy the awkward and nervous boy who confesses to having Skittle

Marina s Abuse In The Play Seven
In the play Seven, the actors told the stories of their characters and opened our eyes on how much
abuse all these seven women went through. One by one took turns explaining their stories, not all at
once, but in a way to where they all intersect with one another in which I believe made the play even
stronger. To begin with all of their stories went through every face of fear, humiliation, and torture.
Yet, the women showed courage and fought back for what they believed was right. The first thing that
I found very interesting was the walking around before the play even started. I wondered on what it
meant for quiet a time. One thing that came in mind is on how every person meant a different race and
different experience yet they were able ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Descriptive Essay About Quadna
Ring a ding ding dong goes the alarm clock and I d be up. Springing from my brown bed, and I d be
off to the shower. I would then leap from the shower and begin brushing my teeth as I would also be
trying to dry myself off. Rushing as fast as I could. I would grab my giant red bag filled with riding
gear and check through it frantically one last time to be sure I had everything. Then my Pa and I
would be off to the greatest place on earth; the racetrack. More specifically the practice track, that was
raced on about two times a year. The track was formally known as Quadna Mountain Park. I referred
to the track as Quadna like many other riders. Quadna played an important piece in the puzzle of my
racing career. Along with my families support and my own drive and desire, Quadna was one of the
most important pieces. When you first turn onto the road to Quadna the first thing noticed is the giant
oval sign with the letters QMP in blue with mountains set behind the letters in the background. As we
passed the sign on the left side of the road, we would always look to our right at the aged and faded
gray hotel that some of the racers would stay in to see which racers were there at the time. After we
would go past the hotel we would take a right onto a dirt road that went into what seemed like thick
woods. When the trees were full of snow it looked like a winter wonderland. But about a half a mile
down the road it makes a sweeping left handed turn and opens up into a field where the

Reflection On Early Learning
This reflection reviews my time at Goodstart Early Learning in Kyneton and the four weeks I spent
there during my first practicum round. The review will critically reflect my experience from this
practicum, using readings and learnings my strengthens and weaknesses will be revealed. Strategies
will also be implemented in what areas I need to focus on before my next practicum round.
Something that I observed at the beginning of my practicum were the issues concerning behavioural
guidance. There was a group of four boys who required the greatest assistance, my experience in
managing people and being a parent quickly reminded me in how to best support them. Knowing each
child and what their abilities and interests are enable educators to respond sensitively and
appropriately to each child (Cohrssen, Church, Tayler, 2011). I spoke with my mentor and other
educators and discovered the backgrounds of these boys and reasonings for their behaviours. I learnt
by observing the other educators how these behavioural guidance issues were managed and the many
techniques they used. Something I realised with the learning experiences I conducted was the need to
not speak too quickly and be clear and concise with my instructions. As I have had limited interaction
with young children as my stepchildren are now adults, I was unaccustomed in how to effectively
communicate with young children. At the beginning of my practicum the instructions and direction I
was attempting to provide were too

Summary Of The Story Of The Three Little Pigs

sends her three little pigs into the world to seek their fortune. The pig s meet a man; he supplies them
with building materials such as: straws, sticks, and bricks. Each pig uses one of the materials to build
their house with. The first pig builds his house with straws and the second with sticks; only to get
devoured by a hungry wolf who huffed and puffed and blew their houses down. However, the third pig
who built his house with bricks survived the mischievous wolf. The wolf thought to himself, Well! If I
can t get to him, then I ll have to find a way to bring him to me . So, the wolf tried to lure the pig out
of his home. He tried three various places the: turnip field, apple tree, and fair. But, the pig outsmarted
him by going one hour earlier. The wolf was angry and decided to climb down the pig s chimney.
Subsequently, the wolf was unaware of what the pig had in store for him on the other side; a big pot of
scorching water. The pig celebrated his victory by eating the wolf for dinner. Throughout The Story of
the Three Little Pigs the third little pig outwitted his brothers by exemplifying astute qualities that
allowed him to further his quest against the wolf. There was a plethora of different events that
showcased the third pig s intelligence. To name a few: building his house with bricks, surviving the
apple tree incident, the fair and cooking the wolf

  • 2. Social Darwinism During The Gilded Age Social Darwinism was a popular term during the late 19th century. According to Social Darwinism, the human race evolves only through competition and only the fit survive while the weak cease to exist. Therefore Social Darwinism applied during the Gilded age meant that the wealthy represented the fit, whereas the poor represented the weak. Wealthy men like John D. Rockefeller used this to justify their tremendous wealth gain. However, American industries expanded rapidly; new technologies and innovations came about and took over the cities which increased production. Many of Americans and immigrants migrated to the cites to get jobs; but the working conditions during the time were very poor. Employees worked long hard hours in harsh environments and received little pay, which caused many people to live in poverty. This poverty issue formulated the theory of Social Darwinism. Many people used this theory to justify the distinction between the rich and the poor. Social Darwinism also allowed businessmen to have merit because it allowed them to expand and earn money. ... Rockefeller s assertion on Social Darwinism was that if you were made rich then it was God s will. Rockefeller also said that the growth of a large business is merely a survival of the fittest. • 4. The Peninsular Oriental Steam Navigation Company General Information In 1822, the very first cruise line, known as the Peninsular Oriental Steam Navigation Company, was founded by Brodie McGhie Willcox and Arthur Anderson, both experienced in the shipping industry. Its first ship was the 206 ton paddle steamer called the William Fawcett, which was first deployed in 1835 from London to Spain and Portugal. More recently, in the 1960 s and early 1970 s, three of the world s largest cruise lines were established. The first one, Norwegian Cruise Line, was introduced when airline travel was becoming increasingly popular. The cruise industry declined significantly from this competition. The second cruise line, Royal Caribbean International, was also experiencing the same challenges as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, Royal Caribbean owns 7 of the 10 largest cruise ships in the world. Its newest cruise ship, Anthem of the Seas, has the most innovative technology onboard such as skydiving and a 360Β° view of the ocean. Has the cruise industry evolved over the past years? The cruise industry has definitely evolved over the years to meet the changing demands and expectations of its passengers. The most important changes in the industry over the years are the introduction of shore excursions, new cruise routes and changes in the ships themselves. The first cruise ships offered few to no excursions while all the modern cruise lines offer over 100 excursions per cruise. These excursions can include participating in an actual boat race in Philipsburg, climbing waterfalls in Ocho Rios and scuba diving which is always very popular among passengers. They are designed to give the passengers a new and thrilling experience that they cannot attain at home. In the old days, the only cruise routes available were transatlantic and small European routes. The transatlantic route became unpopular in the 1960 s as air travel shortened travelling time from less than 20 hours by air versus four days by cruise. However, with the launch of newer, ... • 6. Romania s Struggle With Communism To the world outside, the masked country of Romania, although rarely viewed in media, was known as a picturesque country filled with many profitable resources such as its fertile land, petroleum, and mineral deposits, however, behind the Iron Curtain, lay a more secretive nation, deprived of its rights, ignored by its leaders, and suffering under the taxing regime of Communism. Before Communism was administered, Romania had a trivial communist party which was often overlooked in politics. At the turn of World War II, in 1941, Central European ideals influenced Romania, bringing light of a regime that valued civil equity. During the war, to prevent Russia from overthrowing Romania, they sided with Germany, causing Soviets to occupy in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In its claims to make Romanian children receive the finest education in the world, Communist leaders, including Stefan Voitec, the Minister of Education, limited the access of education and narrowed educational rights in order to indoctrinate Communist values and instill a sense of faithfulness to Communism in the Romanian youth. Throughout the years 1947 to 1989, although the regime was not embraced, communistic beliefs were integrated into the educational system forcefully, and all resistance towards the reforms were squandered (Phillips 7). In order to encourage and inflict their values upon students, special privileges were given to Communist children, trained professors in universities and secondary schools were purged and replaced with pro Communist politicians and intellectuals, and university acceptance was based off of political alliances rather than pre university scores, ensuring that educational advances would only be provided to Communist learners. The Church, which promotes Article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, stating that everyone has the right to education, teaches that the gift of knowledge is a basic human right that all individuals must receive despite their religious, ethnic, or political disagreements, however, when educational facilities deny the acceptance of a bright individual who supports a different regime, it is seen that ... Still, many people agree with Gifford Pinchot s belief system in that the purpose of conservation is to protect natural resources to produce the greatest good for the greatest number for the longest time ( Environmental ethics ). He held the beliefs of a utilitarian, meaning that he cared about all sentient beings, which includes plants and animals because he included them in his moral community. • 8. Immanuel Kant And The Categorical Imperative Immanuel Kant, a German philosopher, specifically a deontologist, has two imperatives: the hypothetical imperative and the categorical imperative. These imperatives describe what we ought to do and are only applicable to rational beings because they are the only beings that recognize what they ought or ought not to do. The hypothetical imperative is when an individual s actions are reasoned by their desire, so they only act with the intention of fulfilling their desires. The categorical imperative is what human beings ought to do for their own sake regardless of whatever else they might desire. The categorical imperative has two formulations. Kant s first formulation of the categorical imperative states that one ought to only act on maxims that can be used as universal law. This formulation is based on its urgency and unity in the society. When a maxim cannot be determined a universal law, then it is morally impermissible to act upon it. Apply this formulation to the example of the lying promise: this cannot be willed as a universal law because trust will no longer be a part of society. If everyone were to make a lying promise to get money without retribution, then people will eventually recognize they are being deceived, which will result in a more selfish community. When one wills something as a universal law, then it is for the intention to better the state and community. This proves that the lying promise is not a maxim to live by. Kant s second formulation of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Essay about Poetry Analysis Mezzo Cammin Mezzo Cammin The poem Mezzo Cammin by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow explains his regretful life and his reasoning at why he didn t live it to its full potential and how he looks at his past. It then looks to his future as being near and bearing a huge weight down on him. The way Longfellow talks about his life is depressing. He doesn t speak of the good accomplishments, only the things he hasn t done until he looks back into the past and then forward at how the future may be. In the first part of the poem Longfellow talks about his life being halfway over and everything that stopped him from really living his life. In the very first couple of lines he says I have let the years slip from me and have not fulfilled the aspiration of my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He describes it strangely, And hear above me on the autumnal blast The cataract of Death far thundering from the heights. These lines are very open ended and in one way he could be speaking of death as far away by the way he describes the thundering waterfall very high up. The reference to height could mean its at a good distance that he can see it, but its still far away. It could also mean he has more of his life to live up to and his regretful past doesn t mean much to him anymore because he has his future to look forward to as he is on his metaphorical hill of life. In another view, he could be describing death as being right around the corner and him looking right at it when he describes the waterfall. You could look at it as him having a life threatening disease and him knowing his death is coming soon, which could also describe the way he views his past full of regret. If he knew the end is coming soon and he doesn t believe he fully lived his life to how he wishes, the regret is understandable and the cataract of death makes sense in this point of view. Overall, this poem shows the past, present, and future of the writer. His life is full of regret at points and then seems hopeful in others. This poem could be viewed in many ways but mostly you understand it as a man who wishes he could change his past because he knows his future is near and his life will soon be coming to an ... • 10. Determinism And The Part It Plays With Free Will Determinism is an idea that states that everything can be explained because it has an adequate reason for being the way it is rather than a different way, meaning that the world has natural laws and everything happens for a reason. This is important as many philosophers have argued between the extent of determinism and the part it plays with free will, taking the claim that if our behavior is governed by natural causes, we are not morally free. Everything will happen due to reasons that have built upon themselves and bringing forth an effect, which then brings about more causes. This is taking the case of hard determinism. This issue is very significant when talking about ethics, as blame and morality surround free will, and if we do not have free will can we be held responsible for our actions? Before we blame a person we must decide if they could have refrained from what they did or if it was inevitable due to causal determinism. I believe that free will and fatalistic/ determinism both have an effect on our human lives and the way we make our choices, contributing to our moral freedom. Determinism does not necessarily mean we make no choices; simply put, it is that we make our own choices and decisions and they are part of the causal process whereby we create further effects in the world, leading to inevitable causes. Leucippus believed that nothing occurs randomly; everything has a specific reason. An argument for the claim is that determinism deprives us of the power ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. World War Two Essay example World War Two On June 18, 1812, President Madison of the United States and Congress declared war on Great Britain. On June 25, the French emperor, Napoleon Bonaparte led his army in Europe across the Nieman River into Russia.(1) Although these two events were thousands of kilometers apart they were directly connected to each other. To some extent, the Americans declared war in protest against measures that were part of Britain s effort to defeat Napoleon with the use of blockades. There are many interesting aspects to the War of 1812, including the fact of why it even happened. Britain and the United States had more reasons to remain friends than to start a war. The Twelve Congress, which received Madison s war message proved to be dominated by a group of young men known as the War Hawks .(5) These men were chiefly from the west and south who resented the injuries inflicted on the United States by Great Britain during the War for Independence, and were seeking retribution.(6) Like many other Americans, they believed the manifest destiny of the United States was to control all of British North America. This American dream of major conquest of North America was made clear in a speech given by Congressman Richard Johnston of Kentucky I shall never die contented until I see her [Britain] expulsion from North America, and her territories incorporated with United States. (7) Mr. Felix Grundy concurred with Mr. Johnston by stating I am willing to receive the Canadians as adopted brethren;... (8) America now had their major objective for the war and despite objections by New England and New York, war was declared by a slim margin on June 18,1812. However, contrary to what people may think school should keep students until they are of 18. Since people with high school diploma have more money, less chance of getting into jail or getting public assistance. Without a high school diploma, the students earn less money. In a 2009 graph the average income by education stated that high school dropouts make $19,540. Meanwhile someone that has completed high school makes around $27,380. With this knowledge we can infer some things such as, with the dropout they could barely afford a place to live and food. April 14, 2015 marked Equal Pay Day this year, which shows how far into the new year the average American woman would have to be employeed to earn what the average American man did last year. Both genders see the lack of balance in the workplace. A lot of men and women believe America needs to continue making changes to achieve eqaulity in the workplace. Accorging to the White House, women working full time have to work nearly sixty more additional days, in order to earn what men did at the end of last year. In 1980, the average woman would have had to work nearly three extra months into May, just to catch up with men s earning s from the previous year (Patten, 2015). The pay gap between men and women continues possibly because women put their careers on hold to care for their families. • 16. An Inspector Calls by J.B. Priestley is full of lies and... J.B. Priestley sets the play in a lavish and happy environment. Without Priestley even telling the audience that the play is set pre war it is obvious because of all the available luxuries and fineries such as champagne glasses and dessert plates . The war caused great shortages in goods and food, which led to rationing. No one in 1945 (when the play was written) would have been able to create a luxuriant celebratory dinner. This cunning use of setting deliberately reminds the audience of some of the luxuries lost because of the war. This is surely what is featured in An Inspector Calls. The 1912 society was a wicked one with evidence of wrong doing, sinfulness, spite, vileness (wickedness), a society in which there was no equality, democracy, or benefits. Without these important factors, a society cannot function, and wickedness is decreed in society. Weakness and wickedness is distributed throughout the play on an individual basis, mostly due to the hypocrisy and aristocracy of society. Mr Birling is delineated as a respectable and successful business man, with a wealthy family. Although by looking beyond the text we can determine that Mr Birling was in fact a selfish, greedy despot. This is not entirely Mr Birling s fault; it is more to do with the format of society. Mr Birling was paying Eva twenty two an six (a subsistent amount of money). Eva requested twenty five shillings . Mr Birling refused to pay and after Eva Smith stood up for what she believed in, she was sacked. The fact that Mr Birling acted, and fired Eva shows he was harsh in his actions. Also the fact that no one found anything wrong with Mr Birling s action, which is an example of wrong doing defines wickedness/weakness in society. Sheila Birling s sub sequential actions also encouraged Eva Smith to commit suicide. Sheila was the one who got Eva Smith fired from Milwards shop. When Sheila was trying on the dress, Eva laughed. • 18. Women In Lysistrata So often we imagine the people of the past as, if not quite stodgy, then definitely as less sexual than the current generation. Aristophanes Lysistrata, takes that idea and turns it on its head, proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that people have always been sexual beings with appetites similar to our own. Aristophanes excels at the bawdy double entendre and certainly this play can be enjoyed as nothing more than what it presents itself as, a farcical sexual comedy, but that would be doing it a great disservice. Aristophanes used the comedic situations and the women in Lysistrata and their struggle against a small group of old men, as a safe way to express his criticisms of the ongoing Peloponnesian War and the current government. We re good and putting make up on, designer clothes and wigs and necklaces, imported gowns and fancy lingerie! Aristophanes must use women to couch his complaints against the government, because if he had used men doing the same things (occupying the citadel, taking over the money), it may have been seen as a call to arms rather than a commentary on their society. • 21. Because I couldn’t stop for death by Emily Dickson and... First of all, based on both poems, the attitude of the poets is influenced by the diction of the poems as well as tone and mood. In Emily Dickinson s poem, in line 1, 2 Because I couldn t stop for death He kindly stopped for me the word death delivers a positive mood as the speaker seems respect and awe death. Moreover, death is portrayed as a phenomenon that is beyond β€Ž human s control. Death has its own control; it is something that human cannot decide themselves but only death can do stop for human, invite them into its carriage, not vice versa. In β€Ž addition, the word kindly in the line presents calmness to the readers as death is not something that human should scare off. Besides, the word slowly and the phrase no haste in ... It is a contradictory to Emily s poem. In line 9 Thou art slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men indicates death as a slave as it does what has been ordered from the superior ones. Death takes human s life not because he is willing to do so but because he is forced to do so. In line 10 11, And dost with poison, war and sickness... can make us sleep as well the speaker associates death with poison, war and sickness as death is not the only factor of human s deceases which then the speaker posts rhetorical question for death to stop being proud. Also, the usage of rhetorical questions like in line 2 For thou art not so makes death fragile. Further, the last line in this poem And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die points out that at the end, the only one who dies is death itself which will be discussed in the element of Christian theology in this essay. The ending also eventually argues that death is weak and vulnerable, not in control and that is the reason why human should not fear death. All the arguments made by the speaker in this poem creates death less powerful and less control of itself which illustrates a condescending tone to elucidate death s incapability to kill. Hence, both poets; Emily Dickinson and John Donne portray death as a phenomenon that human should not fear. But ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Accordingly, of this study s 10 million participants, 92% had cardiovascular disease caused by painkillers, and those who stopped using Ibuprofen reduced risk of worsening cardiovascular condition. The History Of Bristol s Economy The history of Bristol s economy has undertaken a change in similar fashion to economic capitals across world, namely London, yet to a smaller extent (Bassett et al 2002). The transformation of the dockland region and subsequent development from the post war period has led this paper to focus upon the financial sector. Bristol s past follows a parallel trend of dockland manufacturing centres post World War 2 that became involved into finance because of temporal changes. Degeneration was led through the absence of new port proposals that fell through from the Labour government, leading to the rise of other economic sector to facilitate growth (Hoare 1986).The research undertaken in this paper is specified to the numerous accountancy firms scattered across the city centre (Figure 1) and narrowed to the largest four firms: PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC Figure 2), Ernst and Young (EY Figure 3), KPMG (Figure 4) and Deloitte (Figure 5). The change in economic geography of Bristol can be exemplified from the expansion of these financial services to promote new functions within the economy. Historically, the financial sector of Bristol was a result of the redundant industries of the manufacturing sector of the ports in the 1960s.
