The Difference Between Copy And Simulacrum
The following essay will explain the differences between exhibition and cult value as discussed by
Walter Benjamin s: The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction (1995). This will aid in
discussing how the relationship between cult and exhibition value result in the loss of the aura of
authenticity and the aura of uniqueness in reproduced works of art. It will define the concept of
simulacrum according to Michael Camille s Simulacrum. The essay will also explain Jean Baudrillard
s understanding of the lack of the real in contemporary society, how simulacrum threatens the
modernist and the postmodernist notions of the real and how these postmodern strategies are no longer
relevant. The Loss of the Aura Cult value refers to the ritual aspect of looking at an artwork and why

While the copy is seen second to the model the original only imitating it, simulacrum destroys this
hierarchy entirely (Camille 1996:33). The copy is related to the original, it is based on something
which exists, whereas the simulacrum is like the original, but it s not (Camille 1996:32). Although we
recognise it as realistic it bears little resemblance to reality and the physical world in which we live
(Camille 1996:32). One of the most important differences between a copy and simulacrum is that the
copy is filled with the resemblance whilst the simulacrum lacks resemblance (Hart 2004:53). The
existence of an original is what enables the sense of authenticity, if there is no original there is no
question of authenticity (Benjamin 2004:795). In creating a copy, the distance between the object and
audience is narrowed and the aura of the artwork is destroyed when it removes the uniqueness that is
evident in the original (Benjamin

Summary Of We Real Cool By Gwendolyn Brooks
The poem We Real Cool by Gwendolyn Brooks is a poem about a group of dropouts raised in the
lower class of Chicago. They were a group of high school students who preferred the poolroom rather
than school. This poem is written from the perspective of a couple of young men hanging out in a pool
hall, and the speaker is trying to visualize what they are thinking. I believe these kids were born into
poverty and were a simple reflection of the world around them. For poor African Americans that grow
up in the inner city it is a must to adapt the delinquent lifestyle. Brooks directed this poem to the
disruptive behavior that many youths encounter when losing focus of the bigger picture. Though many
might interpret this poem in many ways it is short and sweet, however, it is a true description of the
world that surrounds us today. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this poem Brooks utilizes the phrase we left school which I believe indicates the ignorance of mind
as well as the ignorance of consequence. They do not care about anything because they are cool. I
relate to this because I myself was a mindless dropout and learned the hard way that there is nothing
cool in dropping out of school. People with low social status are more likely to drop out of school
because they are more concerned with life issues like no food, no money, and no father figure. We lurk
late also can be relatable because leaving school means no responsibilities, they can stay up late and
wonder through the city streets. Both of these phrases dwell on the average actions of careless

University Art Museum
The University Art Museum Case Analysis
Suzana Duran MNGT 372
Professor Quimei Xu
I. Relevant Facts/Background
The Art Museum is a building on the university premises that is providing a place for the art collection
of a university. The building was given to the university by an alumnus around 1929. The wealthy son
of the university s first president served as the museum s unpaid director until his death. He brought a
few extra collections to the museum during his service, and while serving as unpaid director, none of
the collections was ever shown to anybody except a few members of the university s art history
faculty. The university practically gave the position to amateur art supporter, Miss Kirkoff, after the
director s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The real issue was not that the new director opened the doors to the public, but the management
organization at the University Art Museum. There are three main points as listed by the elderly
statesmen of the faculty that need to be addressed and clearly defined for the museum: its mission, its
direction, and its objectives. These are clearly the focal problems in this case. What the university has
to do as a whole is to set organizational goals and develop the plans to accomplish them. The museum
is not thriving with the school as well as it has in the past, and the direction of the university is being
questioned. III. Critical Analysis
The later director wanted it to be a community resource as said in the case, and the museum gained
bad reputation during that time as an academic resource. The building was designed by Miss Kirkoff
to help university and its alumni in their pursuit of knowledge. It failed greatly to support the
university and the public. At the time, the museum expected to hire a director and allow them to shape
the museum in any way they see suitable. The university on the other hand should have identified the
direction they want the museum to head in and create guidelines for a director to fallow.
First, top managers at any organization, and in this case are the Dean and the board of directors of the
University, have to assess the opportunities and threats in external environment and internal strengths
and weaknesses as well. Next thing is to

Chip Card Adoption Essay
Brief history of EMV adoption
(EMVCo, LLC, 2014) Chip cards were originally invented in 1977. The first mass deployment of chip
cards for payment by the banking industry was in France in 1984, driven by a need to reduce high
levels of fraud due to counterfeit and lost/stolen magnetic stripe cards. By 1994 all French banks
carried chip cards, deployed using the French specification called B0 , and were able to significantly
reduce fraud. Based on this success, there was a spread of chip card adoption throughout various
markets in Europe in 1990s. Each of them had specifications tailored to their local market. The inter
operability issues created a need for a global standard. Europay, Mastercard and Visa joined together
in 1994 to form EMV, in order to create a global standard and had their first field trial in 1997. With
1.62 billion EMV compliant payments cards in use worldwide, EMV has certainly transformed the
payments landscape.
Stakeholders
EMV evolved from its initial three members, into a consortium called EMVco formed in 1999,
consisting of Visa, Mastercard, JCB, American Express, China UnionPay, and Discover. It functions
as the standards body for EMV specifications and to ensure its global interoperability.
Along with EMVco, there are various stakeholders who are crucial to the successful adoption of EMV.
They are namely the merchants (acceptors), acquirers/processors, issuers/banks, payment system
integrators and value added resellers (VAR). While deployments

Benefits Of Using Plastic On Food Industry

Edible Alternatives To Single Use Plastic In Food Industry
Plastic pollution has reached the all time high. According to recent research, there are already more
than 5 trillion plastic pieces weighing over 250 000 tons afloat in the oceans (Eriksen et al., 2014).
Sustainablecoastlines.org, a New Zealand Charity dedicated to cleaning up the island s coastlines,
estimates that 72.4% of all plastic pollution in the Pacific oceans consists of single use plastics, 22.5%
of which is food wrappers, containers and bottle caps ( Our Impact ). Those numbers spell out an
urgency to come up with a sustainable solution that will slow down the production of plastic debris

Biodegradable plastics, produced from food based products rather than petroleum, although very
promising, still represent a very small percentage of the waste problem. Those should be broken down
only in specialized composting facilities through a controlled process that still produces considerable
amounts of methane (Dell, 2010). Clearly, the issue needs a completely different approach. Edible
alternatives to plastic are the next logical step to solving the contamination problem.
Designers of edible packaging borrowed the concept from nature. Just like apple or grape skins, those
ultra thin but strong membranes are capable of holding both liquid and solid foods while being
completely washable. Edible plastics can be made from vegetables, fruits or nuts with some chitosan
(biopolymer) or alginate (algae extract). Once those particles are gelatinized, they create the firm but
edible skin which mimics resistance of conventional plastics. This kind of packaging will still need an
outer box or a bag to keep the product clean on the shelf, but the individual servings will no longer
have to be ripped open and discarded. Instead, they can be dissolved in hot liquid directly or rinsed off
and eaten together with the contents. Some examples of this new zero waste food industry ideas have

How Ww1 Changed British Literature
World War One began on July 28, 1914 and ended with the signing of the armistice on November 11,
1918. The war cost a total of one hundred eighty six billion dollars. The total casualties of the war
were thirty seven million, with another eleven million civilian casualties. The British Empire alone
lost over three million people in the war. (English) World War One effected the whole world the
heartache and bloodshed changed politics, economics, and public opinion. This war changed people s
lives, but it also changes their way of thinking and their way of writing. After World War One British
literature was changed from simple stories to a more realistic and meaningful approach to life.

The three notable poets of the Victorian age became similarly absorbed in social issues. Beginning as
a poet of pure romantic escapism, Alfred, Lord Tennyson, soon moved on to problems of religious
faith, social change, and political power. All the characteristic moods of his poetry, from brooding
splendor to lyrical sweetness, are expressed with smooth technical mastery. His style, as well as his
peculiarly English conservatism, stands in some contrast to the intellectuality and bracing harshness of
the poetry of Robert Browning. Matthew Arnold, the third of these mid Victorian poets, stands apart
from them as a more subtle and balanced thinker his literary criticism is the most remarkable written
in Victorian times. His poetry displays a sorrowful, disillusioned pessimism over the human plight in
rapidly changing times, a pessimism countered, however, by a strong sense of duty. (English) World
War One was an event that changed literature throughout England and the world. People felt lost,
broken and disheveled after the war. This is obvious when you see the change in literature after the
war. Literature after the war, or post war literature, is different from the literature during the Victorian
age. The optimism of previous decades was abandoned and a bleak, pessimistic outlook on life

Research Paper On Poodle
The poodle originated in Germany in the late middle ages, as a water retriever.
Its name in English derives from the German Pudelhund, or dog that splashes in the water. In France,
where the dog quickly rose in prominence to become the national breed, its name was caniche, a play
on the word for duck, canard: a
duck dog. The miniature and toy sizes were bred down from the standard shortly after ward, making
the poodle unique, differing from most other large breeds that have only been recently miniaturized.
Sketches by Albrecht Durer establish the poodle as a sleeve dog a dog used to warm the hands within
the large sleeves of a person s garment as early as the 15th century. By the 18th cen tury, it had
become a favorite pet of the Spanish and French royal families. Its early use ... Show more content on

The need for regular grooming to keep the poodle s coat in order may explain another reason for the
breed s popularity: The claims that the poodle is hypo allergenic. Although all dogs produce dander, an
enzyme in the dog s saliva that gets deposited on the fur as he licks himself, poodles tend to be
brushed and bathed more frequently than other breeds, hence causing fewer allergy symptoms in their
owners. Yet another reason for the breed s popularity is its keen intelligence. The poodle has been
employed as a circus and street performer for hundreds of years, learning to do calisthenics and parlor
tricks; one famous nineteenth century poodle named Munito was said to be able to read, count, and
play chess! The gypsies who wandered Europe began this trend by keeping poodles to perform in their
troupes. In fact, one expert believes that they helped to change the breed standard from a classic
retriever shape to its current square body, in order to improve the dog s

When the Roman Empire collapsed, the Catholic Church was the only powerful authority not
complete disrupted by the attack by barbarians. In fact, the work of great Popes is what helped their
power increase even more. The newly christened barbarians, done by the Pope Gregory the Great,
inaugurated a new age in Jesus Christ called Christendom. All culture in Christendom conformed to
that of the Church s, and, with its headquarters in Rome, the powerful papal monarchs , as they were
called, controlled the machine that was the Catholic Church. With newfound challenges of the
Renaissance, the Protestant Reformation, and the increase in the Enlightenment s rationalism and
liberalism, an undermining of the Church began to set forth a new era and problems for the Church
that they tried to come back from. Reorganizing at Trent set a new grim determination for the Church
that catapulted their morale against ideas of modern culture. The last of these increasing troubles being

Baseball Compared To Other Sports
The history of baseball is a lot more complicated compared to other sports. There is no (real)
definitive answer as to how or who started the game of baseball. However, there are some theories, the
most common theory, references to games resembling baseball in the United States date back to the
18th century. Its most direct ancestors appear to be two English games: rounders (a children s game
brought to New England by the earliest colonists) and cricket, (History.com Staff). When the
American Revolution occurred there were many different variations of this game that were being

There have been many players in MLB have used and been caught using PEDs and have faced serious
penalty. The biggest case as of recent years was the Alex Rodriguez scandal. After a positive urine
test, he continued to deny the use of PEDs but later, like half a year later finally committed to using
them and was suspended without pay for a whole season. He is not the only player to use PEDs in the
MLB but he is one of the ones to be caught in recent years. It is obvious that using drugs to enhance
performance is banned, but there is the ethical debate of why? The main reason people come up with
is that it is, basically, cheating which implies a theft of opportunity from other players of the sport.
When one player gains benefits monetary compensation, fan appreciation, seasonal honors, statistical
records, etc by using performance enhancing drugs, he does so by shouldering a lesser burden than
players who do not use drugs, (Belousek 2014). That being said, a lot of players who have been in the
game a while and their skills are starting to decrease feel like they need to keep up with the younger
generation of players entering the world of baseball. However, the older players are not getting any
younger with their age, or their body s ability, so their way of keeping up is to use PEDs so that their
recovery time is shortened to what it used to be so they can keep up with a 162 game schedule.
Another example of this would be Chris Colabello with the Toronto Blue Jays last season. He was
suspended 50 games for the use of PEDs but claims that he does not know how they entered his
system, but many people believe it was the case of not being able to keep up with the younger
generation, especially Tom Valcke, who has been around baseball for over 35 years. During one of

A Rubik s Cube Is A Logic Game And Mathematical Puzzle
A Rubik s cube is a logic game and mathematical puzzle that develops critical thinking and spatial
reasoning skills. It is a three dimensional puzzle originally invented and developed by Erno Rubik to
serve the purpose of a mathematical aid in the 1970 s but unexpectedly evolved into what is now
considered to be the world s top selling toy. Erno Rubik was a young professor teaching interior
design and architecture in Hungary when he first created the object. He created an object that was not
supposed to be possible. His solid cube twisted and turned and still did not break or fall apart. Rubik
first invented the cube, formerly known as the Magic Cube to help explain three dimensional
geometry to his students. The puzzle is in the form of a cube made up of smaller, coloured
interlocking cubes that can be manipulated by twisting the horizontal and vertical planes. Initially
before the cube has been manipulated each face of the cube is covered in a different colour. Meaning
when you twist and turn the cube away from its original orientation the colours on each face will be
jumbled. Although it has now been made apparent that every legal permutation of the Rubik s cube
can be solved in 20 moves or fewer, it has been reported, the first time Rubik jumbled the cube it took
him a month to solve it. Throughout the introduction I have used information from sites reference [1]

Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease Research Paper
Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease (CJD) is a rapidly progressive form of Dementia. Early diagnosis is
important because the underlying cause of Dementia may be treatable. It appears randomly with no
apparent reason, about 10% of those who are infected receive the disease through heredity. The use of
a computerized axial tomography scan (CT) can help rule out other problems like stroke or brain
tumor. The most effective is a Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), because it can reveal patterns of
abnormal brain signals and characteristics of CJD. In rare cases a brain biopsy may need to be
performed. A small piece of tissue is removed and it is examined by a Neuropathologist, usually an
MRI is sufficient. When a symptom on set happens, individuals may develop confusion, depression,
behavioral changes, impaired vision and impaired coordination. As the disease processes there may be
a loss of memory, also infected individuals may develop neuromuscular abnormalities. In later stages
of the disease, individuals may have further loss of physical, intellectual functions, a coma, and

a result from a mutation in the gene that regulates the production of the human protein or direct

Narrative Voice In Romeo And Juliet
Male characters who serve as a narrative voice often express their love and affection through an
enthusiastic response towards a female. In the song, Michelle , performed by Sir Paul McCartney, the
male narrative voice is proclaiming his love for a girl named Michelle through his words both in
French and English. Similarly, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, a play written by William
Shakespeare, Romeo shows his enthusiasm upon catching sight of Juliet and expresses that he believes
that she is the most magnificent girl Romeo had ever met. Considering what both of these sources say

Restorative Justice Policy Proposal for Juvenile Justice...
A growing number of probation officers, judges, prosecutors as well as other juvenile professionals
are advocating for a juvenile justice system which is greatly based on restorative justice. These groups
of people have been frustrated by the policy uncertainty between retribution and treatment as well as
unrealistic and unclear public expectations. As a primary mission, the balanced approach or policy
allows juvenile justice systems together with its agencies to improve in their capacity of protecting the
community and ensuring accountability of the system and the offenders . It enables the youths to

They are calling for an evaluation of policies which continue to increase incarceration and
improvement of criminal justice as this population reaches historical high level in America. There are
over 2 million individuals housed in national jails or prisons and nearly 5 million individuals on parole
or probation. United States of America leads the world in punishment and incarceration, and the cost
of the correctional system now surpasses $60billion annually. The rise in the costs and size of
correctional facilities occurs after nearly two decades of tough reforms on crime. These tough on
crime reforms got the support of both Republican and Democratic administrators in response to the
increasing crimes rates experienced since 1970s. Ironically, the unabated correctional costs and
financial crises have put strains on health, education and human services budgets. It is, therefore,
apparent that in as much as prison systems are costing the government more money, they are
becoming less effective in addressing crime rates.
The criminal justice system recognizes the importance of restorative justice practice and programs to
offenders in reducing the overall national crime rates. It also recognizes that a range of improvements
is necessary to achieve successful integration of offenders to the community. Some of the programs
that will ensure reduction in the number of individuals incarcerated must be

A Brief Note On Electro Encephalography ( Eeg )
Electro encephalography : Electro Encephalography (EEG) is primarily an electrophysiological
monitoring method, recording the electrical activity of the brain. It involves placing electrodes along
the scalp, which measure voltage fluctuations resulting from the ionic flux across the brain neurons.
These are recorded graphically and typically referred to as brain waves . Prior to the advent of
Computed Tomography (CTScan) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), EEG monitoring was the
primary diagnostic tool for stroke, epilepsy and other focal brain disorders. EEG monitoring in the
settings of cardiac surgery can be initiated before induction by anesthesia and continues in the post
operative phase , in the intensive care unit (ICU). EEG monitoring is useful to detect seizures . The
most common neurological symptoms manifest in the neonatal cardiac surgical intensive care unit
include Non convulsive seizures and Status Epilepticus; the primary cause being Hypoxic Ischemic
Encephalopathy(HIC). Studies reveal that the incidents of HIC increase in the presence of adverse
events like cardiac arrest and also in the use of Mechanical Circulatory Support, ECMO,etc. EEG can
be influenced by the use of hypothermia and anesthetic agents. Use of deep hypothermia leads to
isoelectricity, a marker of reduction in cerebral metabolism. The threshold for isoelectricty can be a

southwest India. The main part of the plot takes place in 1969, a time when the caste system in India
was still very strongly imbedded. It is also the time of increased awareness around the world and a
peak of communist ideology and influence. India is a very complex society with various cultural and

Essay on The Role of the Reflexive Ethnographer
The Role of the Reflexive Ethnographer
Works Cited Missing
The role of the reflexive ethnographer has been constantly defined and redefined since the beginning
of the study of anthropology. The use of reflexivity has and will always be questioned in anthropology.
Malinowski, who was a pioneer in the field of anthropology, discouraged the use of reflexivity; he,
instead, believed that anthropology was scientific and could produce concrete evidence (Malinowski
17).
Reflexivity is way in which anthropologists try to get rid of this scientific and rigid anthropology; it is
a move towards an emotional and self reflective anthropology. Reflexivity denies the structuralism
which Malinowski and Levi Strauss attended to. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Visweswaran believes that reflexive anthropology did not begin with Paul Rabinow, Jean Paul
Dumont and Vincent Crapanzano (Visweswaran 22) but began with women who, because of societal
constraints, could not be anthropologists. These women s writings, she claims, have been dismissed as
popularized accounts or as confessional field literature (Visweswaran 21).
These ethnographies have been also called inadequate science (Visweswaran 21); this is in relation to
Malinowski s belief that anthropology is a structured and scientific method. It is ironic then that men
are heralded as exemplars of this new genre (Visweswaran 22) when women began reflexivity before
them. Visweswaran goes on to analyze these formerly unknown and ignored female texts; she looks at
these ethnographies to make her own ethnography. These ethnographies, for Visweswaran, are
ethnographies in the text themselves; they reveal the female author s complex negotiation of
positionality within a single gender domain (Visweswaran 27).
Visweswaran is thus reflexive about the female identity and hence about her own identity. She
believes that anthropologists should be reflexive with

Romeo And Juliet Essay On Death
Throughout the play Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare shows Romeo s infatuation with two things:
death, and Juliet, one overpowering the other. Romeo is suicidal; everything related to eternal rest
peaks his interest. Juliet causes Romeo to die which reveals that Juliet did what death itself could not.
She helped Romeo forget about the harsh realities of the world, whereas death allowed Romeo an
option in the end where he could be alongside his one and only true love. Whether it be in hell or
heaven, Romeo would have followed Juliet anywhere. Despite Romeo s obsession with death, his
constant references to Juliet suggests that it is not true. From the first time Romeo lays his eyes on

Romeo is content with dying if Juliet wills it so. This brings light to the fact that Romeo does not
worry about himself or about anything other than Juliet when he is with her. When he goes to Mantua,
Romeo quickly becomes depressed. He complains that, heaven is here, where Juliet lives, and every
cat and dog and little mouse, every unworthy thing, live here in heaven and may look on her, but
Romeo may not (3.3.29 32). Romeo reveals that anywhere outside Verona is a place of purgatory if the
unworthiest of creatures are able to gaze upon Juliet s beauty while he is stuck in Mantua. As a result,
he believes that the banishment is worse than dying as he is tortured by the fact that he may never be
able to see her again without the risk of being killed. The only way for Romeo to be together with
Juliet is through the means of dying. As Romeo heard of Juliet s deceasement, he rushes to go to
Verona despite the evident threat to his life, with poison, to kill himself alongside Juliet. He kills
himself just before Juliet woke up. Juliet then kills herself so that they may be together in the afterlife
regardless of if it is hell or heaven. Suicide is considered an utmost sin in Christianity and by killing
himself, he rescinded his beliefs and religion to be with the one he loved. They both revoke their

A Brief History of the American Kennel Club
Man s best friend, or as people simple call them, the dog has been a part of family life thousands of
years. Ever since the beginning man and dog have lived side by side. Whether as guard dogs, hunting
buddies, or simply a member of the family it s impossible to have never seen or heard of a dog.
Organizations have developed means of determining which dogs are the best of the best. Today the
most recognizable and known organization for dogs is the American Kennel club, or AKC.
The AKC was founded by a group of men on September 17, 1884 after twelve of them received a
summons in the mail by Messrs. J. M. Taylor and Elliot Smith. The men that Taylor and Smith
gathered each had held a significant place in different dog clubs. These men were highly skilled in
their individual styles of dog shows and it was on this expertise that the American Kennel Club was
born. Being composed of men from all different types of kennel clubs and shows, this was the first
kennel club to cover a whole variety of breeds instead of one specific class. At their second meeting in
Madison Square Garden a few months later Major James M. Taylor became the AKC s first president,
having written and delivered many of the founding laws the AKC still follow today. During its first
years the AKC developed a type of organization still used today, the National American Kennel Club
Stud Book which listed all the studs, unneutered male dogs, that the AKC deemed best in their breed.

hate in the world to keep things live and not dull like a utopia. Stereotypes and misconceptions fit the
mold of making the world a funnier and hateful place. These two terms are based upon making
assumptions about certain types of people, religion and races, basically anything that makes a person

A well known example of a stereotype is that anybody that wears glasses is automatically smart.
Which can be believed since it s glorified in movies and t.v shows. Whether these beliefs about the
group characteristics are true or not they still influence the way people think. Which leads to social
categorization and therefore people can tell someone s role of just being part of a group.
On the same note, misconceptions which go hand and hand with stereotypes can also manipulate one s
perception about a group of people. For the same faulty reason misconceptions occur when a false
opinion about a group are formed based on untruths, which are usually assumptions. It s a view that is
incorrect and is usually hard to find, since it comes from no truth. An example of controversial
misconception is that playing video games can make a person violent. In an online article by Inez
Dawoodjee states some examples such as That all people that live in Africa live in Huts Which can be
believed since many people have never visited Africa and only hear lies. It s easy to confuse these too
with discrimination or prejudice since today s society gets easily offended, but in reality the terms
should not be confused since the are completely different. Discrimination is when people get treated

The Distrust Between The Sexes By Karen Horney
Differences Between Men and Women

Men and women have always been unequal, and it has always been an issue of women wanting to be
equal, and men wanting to be superior. Maybe in other countries across the globe they are more equal,
but in America they are not as equal and women want them to be. Women are portrayed as the ones
that are supposed to stay home and take care of the kids and cook and clean the house all the time.
Men are supposed to be the workers of the family and they are not supposed to be the ones that cook

The Sexual Content in Angela Carter´s The Bloody Chamber The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories,
is a selection of fairytales which have been re written by Angela Carter to place them in the modern

fairytales such as Bluebeard , Beauty and the Beast and Little Red Riding Hood with sometimes more

Therefore, it can be argued that rather than being subjected to this act, the presence of consent
transforms this into an act of erotica. This could be an example of which Makinen describes as Carter
re writing the old tales by playing with the earlier misogynistic version, (Makinen 24). As mentioned
earlier Sheets attempts to brand Carter as a new Juliette or new Justine , but in the end her argument is
inconclusive and cannot decide on one particular side of the fence for the writer. In comparison, Carter
refers to Lovelace as someone who has been sexually exploited by men , (Carter, Shaking a Leg 55).
Carter makes it blatantly clear in this article that she is against pornography, not because of the acts
that take place but because of the oppression of women. She describes Lovelace as someone who lives
in a world dictated by men, she has learned her technique from men and although it is a world of sex,
the sex itself has been reduced to what Carter calls a geometric intersection of parts , (Carter, Shaking
a Leg 56). Carter compares what Lovelace is doing to that of what takes place in a Brothel. She
comments that our society generally denies the prostitute both appreciation and the opportunity to
exercise particular sexual virtuosity , and ironically confirms that Lovelace is no prostitute , (Carter,
Shaking a Leg 55). Carter portrays Lovelace as what this writer

True Freedom By John Stuart Mill And Georg Hegel
Wars, death, and other acts of violence have all been part of a process to attain true freedom. However,
what is true freedom? John Stuart Mill and Georg Hegel tackle this notion of freedom. Mills states
that freedom is when individuals have unlimited liberty, while Hegel says that is a false freedom. He
states that freedom is when the individual s morals align with external laws within the nation state.
Despite what many say freedom is more similar in Hegel s and Mills than different. We can see this
through Hegel s notion of absolute mind and Mill s value of liberty and notion of diversity. God is
absolute mind, God is the totality of human thinking and through spirit God is becoming aware of its
own self consciousness to reach even higher levels of consciousness. This is the notion of absolute
mind according to Hegel, he mentions that during this process of absolute mind of becoming aware of
itself. Human history tends to be a Slaughter bench (Hegel 71), reason being because diversity is
trying to figure itself out. As seen in his dialectics, patterns which dictates even the absolute spirit,
there are two dialectics that he mentions, the ethical and political dialectics. These dialectics contains
a thesis which is the original definition of something, an antithesis which is contrary to the thesis.
Finally, those two are synthesized to become one, a better solution. For example, the political
dialectics has a thesis of containing of the family life, which relates to

paradoxes as the following: 1) caring for the students while deliberately exposing them to frustration;
2) nurturing a lively, interactive course while respecting those students who prefer to remain silent; 3)
helping the students to be more autonomous while simultaneously manipulating them; 4) accepting
their vulnerability while nurturing their creativity; 5) maintaining both professional distance and

The goal of the students is to make recommendations about the highway. The project requires complex
decision making from the students. The simulation has four stages: in the first three stages, students
explore the information provided to them on a CD ROM. The CD ROM contains a simulation of a
deliberation over the highway project. Students are to discuss and debrief and record their
experiences. In the final stage, students need to organize a press conference. De Carlo believes these
simulations help students identify their emotions and the emotions of others, and use them as a
foundation to understanding negotiation.
In teaching through a paradox, de Carlo explains that we must rethink of the classroom as a
transitional space described as a place of creation and analysis. This space is intended to develop
coping skills in students who find negotiating frustrated. The professor serves as a mentor to facilitate
learning new ideas and skills with the aim of helping [students] be more effective in negotiation and
creative in life (355). However, de Carlo notes that authority should be present in classroom dynamics
while teaching through paradox. According to de Carlo, authority cannot be negotiated, but needs to
be present to create an environment that is both nurturing and frustrating. This will allow the professor

Japanese Religion
In what way(s) is Japanese religion as much a matter of practice as it is beliefs ? And, if applicable,
are you able to step back and find ways in which your own habits, practices, or ways of acting in the
world are perhaps more religious than you may have thought?
Japanese religion is not just one religion. Within the reading it says there are as many Japanese
religions as there are Japanese people. (PAGE 6) This means that in Japanese culture one does not
have to associate themselves with just one religion. The practices that the Japanese people take part in
are festivals. Families will attend festivals of all religions. The families will also take beliefs of all
religions and make it into their own way of life. Both are important to

Examples Of Misunderstandings In To Kill A Mockingbird
Misunderstandings are common all over the world and are mostly small. There are, however, many
large misunderstandings that happened in the past, like war and racism. Different races
misunderstanding each other was a large part of the United States histroy that has forged the country
into what it is today. In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird, there are many characters that are
misunderstood, one of them is Mr. Dolphus Raymond, the supposed town drunk. It is discovered later
that Mr. Raymond has been lying about who he was and how he lived.
First, Mr. Raymond wants to live how he wants, but he has to lie about who he is and what he wants to
do because no one would accept him any other way. Everyone in the town would try to change him if
he didn t have a crutch that he relied on and couldn t lose. Mr. ... Show more content on

Raymond didn t lie about himself, then those he loves could be in danger of physical or emotional
harm.
Finally, the town views Boo as a violent person that is dangerous and scary but, similar to Mr.
Raymond, the town only views the false image of him. Since no one truly knows the true Boo or Mr.
Raymond, they are both judged misunderstood by everyone in the town.
Jem and Scout make a judgement about Mrs. Dubose that she was a terrible lady without knowing
anything about her. They hated her because she was rude and yelled at them, even though she wanted
to change her ways before she died. They later realized that she was a lady trying to do her best and
try to make up for her past mistakes in her life.
When Mrs. Dubose died, Jem and Scout learned that you don t truly know what someone is going
through unless you sit down and actually listen to their story. The town doesn t give Mr. Raymond that
choice because they think he is just a drunk and that is all there is to

Evaluation of Two Preschool Classrooms Using Early...
According to our textbook Student teaching, A quality program is one that exceeds rather than meets
minimum standards for licensure. To help us determine if a preschool classroom/program provides
quality and to help us understand what quality means we were asked to evaluate and compare two
preschool classrooms using the Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale. The classrooms I chose to
evaluate and compare using the ECERS evaluation tool were the 4year old classroom at Naples
Christian Academy and the 4 year old classroom at The Learning Center. Below is my comparison of
both classrooms using the ECERS evaluation tool. Naples Christian Academy, as discussed before,
serves children from pre k3 to 8th grade. The Learning Center serves children from age 2 to 5 years
old. According to the PAS evaluations that I did for course EEC 4941, Naples Christian Academy and
The Learning Center provide a quality program for children and families. After observing both 4 year
old classrooms for two days, I was able to determine whether or not both 4 year old classrooms
provide quality also. Naples Christian Academy scored an average score of 6.93on the ECERS and
The Learning Center scored an average score of 6.58 on the ECERS. The first section I evaluated at
both locations was space and furnishings. Naples Christian Academy scores a 7 and The Learning
Center scored a 6.25. The Learning Center classroom did not have a sand/water table visible when I

A Visit At San Jose Buddhist Church
Awakening For this experience, I decided to explore Buddhism in order to enhance my involvement
with the religion and build a strong understanding. What intrigued me about Buddhism was the social
aspect and diversity that it had to offer. In order to explore this religion from a critical and analytical
viewpoint, I decided to attend a weekend service offered at San Jose Buddhist Church Betsuin. The
San Jose Buddhist Church Betsuin main temple is located in the Japantown section of Central San
Jose. What made this temple stand out amongst the others was its historical standing in the
community. It is one of the oldest temples established in the United States. In order to learn more
about the history, environment, and community as a whole, I decided to contact the temple s staffs.
After a brief phone call, I was able to schedule a tour. In preparation, I decided to do a brief research
on Buddhism to familiarize myself with the religion beforehand. With all preparations and research
necessary, I was ready to visit San Jose Buddhist Church Betsuin.
Upon arrival, I was given a brief history about of the Buddhist temple. The San Jose Buddhist Church
Betsuin is one of the oldest Buddhist temples in the United States. Although it was established in
1907, construction wasn t completed until 1937. During World War II, it was served as a home to
many Japanese Americans released from internment camps. Today, the temple continues to play an
active role in the lives of their descendance

  • 2. The Difference Between Copy And Simulacrum The following essay will explain the differences between exhibition and cult value as discussed by Walter Benjamin s: The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction (1995). This will aid in discussing how the relationship between cult and exhibition value result in the loss of the aura of authenticity and the aura of uniqueness in reproduced works of art. It will define the concept of simulacrum according to Michael Camille s Simulacrum. The essay will also explain Jean Baudrillard s understanding of the lack of the real in contemporary society, how simulacrum threatens the modernist and the postmodernist notions of the real and how these postmodern strategies are no longer relevant. The Loss of the Aura Cult value refers to the ritual aspect of looking at an artwork and why the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While the copy is seen second to the model the original only imitating it, simulacrum destroys this hierarchy entirely (Camille 1996:33). The copy is related to the original, it is based on something which exists, whereas the simulacrum is like the original, but it s not (Camille 1996:32). Although we recognise it as realistic it bears little resemblance to reality and the physical world in which we live (Camille 1996:32). One of the most important differences between a copy and simulacrum is that the copy is filled with the resemblance whilst the simulacrum lacks resemblance (Hart 2004:53). The existence of an original is what enables the sense of authenticity, if there is no original there is no question of authenticity (Benjamin 2004:795). In creating a copy, the distance between the object and audience is narrowed and the aura of the artwork is destroyed when it removes the uniqueness that is evident in the original (Benjamin ... • 3. Summary Of We Real Cool By Gwendolyn Brooks The poem We Real Cool by Gwendolyn Brooks is a poem about a group of dropouts raised in the lower class of Chicago. They were a group of high school students who preferred the poolroom rather than school. This poem is written from the perspective of a couple of young men hanging out in a pool hall, and the speaker is trying to visualize what they are thinking. I believe these kids were born into poverty and were a simple reflection of the world around them. For poor African Americans that grow up in the inner city it is a must to adapt the delinquent lifestyle. Brooks directed this poem to the disruptive behavior that many youths encounter when losing focus of the bigger picture. Though many might interpret this poem in many ways it is short and sweet, however, it is a true description of the world that surrounds us today. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this poem Brooks utilizes the phrase we left school which I believe indicates the ignorance of mind as well as the ignorance of consequence. They do not care about anything because they are cool. I relate to this because I myself was a mindless dropout and learned the hard way that there is nothing cool in dropping out of school. People with low social status are more likely to drop out of school because they are more concerned with life issues like no food, no money, and no father figure. We lurk late also can be relatable because leaving school means no responsibilities, they can stay up late and wonder through the city streets. Both of these phrases dwell on the average actions of careless ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Relevant Facts/Background The Art Museum is a building on the university premises that is providing a place for the art collection of a university. The building was given to the university by an alumnus around 1929. The wealthy son of the university s first president served as the museum s unpaid director until his death. He brought a few extra collections to the museum during his service, and while serving as unpaid director, none of the collections was ever shown to anybody except a few members of the university s art history faculty. The real issue was not that the new director opened the doors to the public, but the management organization at the University Art Museum. There are three main points as listed by the elderly statesmen of the faculty that need to be addressed and clearly defined for the museum: its mission, its direction, and its objectives. These are clearly the focal problems in this case. What the university has to do as a whole is to set organizational goals and develop the plans to accomplish them. The museum is not thriving with the school as well as it has in the past, and the direction of the university is being questioned. III. Critical Analysis The later director wanted it to be a community resource as said in the case, and the museum gained bad reputation during that time as an academic resource. The building was designed by Miss Kirkoff to help university and its alumni in their pursuit of knowledge. It failed greatly to support the university and the public. At the time, the museum expected to hire a director and allow them to shape the museum in any way they see suitable. The university on the other hand should have identified the direction they want the museum to head in and create guidelines for a director to fallow. First, top managers at any organization, and in this case are the Dean and the board of directors of the University, have to assess the opportunities and threats in external environment and internal strengths and weaknesses as well. • 5. Chip Card Adoption Essay Brief history of EMV adoption (EMVCo, LLC, 2014) Chip cards were originally invented in 1977. The first mass deployment of chip cards for payment by the banking industry was in France in 1984, driven by a need to reduce high levels of fraud due to counterfeit and lost/stolen magnetic stripe cards. By 1994 all French banks carried chip cards, deployed using the French specification called B0 , and were able to significantly reduce fraud. Based on this success, there was a spread of chip card adoption throughout various markets in Europe in 1990s. Each of them had specifications tailored to their local market. The inter operability issues created a need for a global standard. Europay, Mastercard and Visa joined together in 1994 to form EMV, in order to create a global standard and had their first field trial in 1997. With 1.62 billion EMV compliant payments cards in use worldwide, EMV has certainly transformed the payments landscape. Stakeholders EMV evolved from its initial three members, into a consortium called EMVco formed in 1999, consisting of Visa, Mastercard, JCB, American Express, China UnionPay, and Discover. It functions as the standards body for EMV specifications and to ensure its global interoperability. Along with EMVco, there are various stakeholders who are crucial to the successful adoption of EMV. They are namely the merchants (acceptors), acquirers/processors, issuers/banks, payment system integrators and value added resellers (VAR). While deployments ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Biodegradable plastics, produced from food based products rather than petroleum, although very promising, still represent a very small percentage of the waste problem. Those should be broken down only in specialized composting facilities through a controlled process that still produces considerable amounts of methane (Dell, 2010). Clearly, the issue needs a completely different approach. Edible alternatives to plastic are the next logical step to solving the contamination problem. Designers of edible packaging borrowed the concept from nature. Just like apple or grape skins, those ultra thin but strong membranes are capable of holding both liquid and solid foods while being completely washable. Edible plastics can be made from vegetables, fruits or nuts with some chitosan (biopolymer) or alginate (algae extract). Once those particles are gelatinized, they create the firm but edible skin which mimics resistance of conventional plastics. This kind of packaging will still need an outer box or a bag to keep the product clean on the shelf, but the individual servings will no longer have to be ripped open and discarded. Instead, they can be dissolved in hot liquid directly or rinsed off and eaten together with the contents. Some examples of this new zero waste food industry ideas have already appeared on the ... Its name in English derives from the German Pudelhund, or dog that splashes in the water. In France, where the dog quickly rose in prominence to become the national breed, its name was caniche, a play on the word for duck, canard: a duck dog. The miniature and toy sizes were bred down from the standard shortly after ward, making the poodle unique, differing from most other large breeds that have only been recently miniaturized. Sketches by Albrecht Durer establish the poodle as a sleeve dog a dog used to warm the hands within the large sleeves of a person s garment as early as the 15th century. Although all dogs produce dander, an enzyme in the dog s saliva that gets deposited on the fur as he licks himself, poodles tend to be brushed and bathed more frequently than other breeds, hence causing fewer allergy symptoms in their owners. Yet another reason for the breed s popularity is its keen intelligence. The poodle has been employed as a circus and street performer for hundreds of years, learning to do calisthenics and parlor tricks; one famous nineteenth century poodle named Munito was said to be able to read, count, and play chess! After a positive urine test, he continued to deny the use of PEDs but later, like half a year later finally committed to using them and was suspended without pay for a whole season. He is not the only player to use PEDs in the MLB but he is one of the ones to be caught in recent years. It is obvious that using drugs to enhance performance is banned, but there is the ethical debate of why? The main reason people come up with is that it is, basically, cheating which implies a theft of opportunity from other players of the sport. When one player gains benefits monetary compensation, fan appreciation, seasonal honors, statistical records, etc by using performance enhancing drugs, he does so by shouldering a lesser burden than players who do not use drugs, (Belousek 2014). That being said, a lot of players who have been in the game a while and their skills are starting to decrease feel like they need to keep up with the younger generation of players entering the world of baseball. However, the older players are not getting any younger with their age, or their body s ability, so their way of keeping up is to use PEDs so that their recovery time is shortened to what it used to be so they can keep up with a 162 game schedule. Another example of this would be Chris Colabello with the Toronto Blue Jays last season. He was suspended 50 games for the use of PEDs but claims that he does not know how they entered his system, but many people believe it was the case of not being able to keep up with the younger generation, especially Tom Valcke, who has been around baseball for over 35 years. • 16. A Rubik s Cube Is A Logic Game And Mathematical Puzzle A Rubik s cube is a logic game and mathematical puzzle that develops critical thinking and spatial reasoning skills. It is a three dimensional puzzle originally invented and developed by Erno Rubik to serve the purpose of a mathematical aid in the 1970 s but unexpectedly evolved into what is now considered to be the world s top selling toy. Erno Rubik was a young professor teaching interior design and architecture in Hungary when he first created the object. He created an object that was not supposed to be possible. His solid cube twisted and turned and still did not break or fall apart. Rubik first invented the cube, formerly known as the Magic Cube to help explain three dimensional geometry to his students. The puzzle is in the form of a cube made up of smaller, coloured interlocking cubes that can be manipulated by twisting the horizontal and vertical planes. Initially before the cube has been manipulated each face of the cube is covered in a different colour. Meaning when you twist and turn the cube away from its original orientation the colours on each face will be jumbled. Although it has now been made apparent that every legal permutation of the Rubik s cube can be solved in 20 moves or fewer, it has been reported, the first time Rubik jumbled the cube it took him a month to solve it. It appears randomly with no apparent reason, about 10% of those who are infected receive the disease through heredity. The use of a computerized axial tomography scan (CT) can help rule out other problems like stroke or brain tumor. The most effective is a Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), because it can reveal patterns of abnormal brain signals and characteristics of CJD. In rare cases a brain biopsy may need to be performed. The male narrator wants the woman he is talking to to know something and expresses it by saying, I will say the only words I know that You ll understand Michelle, ma belle Sont les mots qui vont tres bien ensemble Tres bien ensemble . (Doc 1). The male character s choice of words in this part of the song is essential because he is communicating that he needs Michelle to understand that he is inspired by her beauty and has a desire for her. Moreover, upon noticing Juliet, Romeo realizes that she is different from other girls that has met and done things with. Romeo remarks about Juliet, Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear! The rise in the costs and size of correctional facilities occurs after nearly two decades of tough reforms on crime. These tough on crime reforms got the support of both Republican and Democratic administrators in response to the increasing crimes rates experienced since 1970s. Ironically, the unabated correctional costs and financial crises have put strains on health, education and human services budgets. It is, therefore, apparent that in as much as prison systems are costing the government more money, they are becoming less effective in addressing crime rates. • 22. A Brief Note On Electro Encephalography ( Eeg ) Electro encephalography : Electro Encephalography (EEG) is primarily an electrophysiological monitoring method, recording the electrical activity of the brain. It involves placing electrodes along the scalp, which measure voltage fluctuations resulting from the ionic flux across the brain neurons. These are recorded graphically and typically referred to as brain waves . Prior to the advent of Computed Tomography (CTScan) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), EEG monitoring was the primary diagnostic tool for stroke, epilepsy and other focal brain disorders. EEG monitoring in the settings of cardiac surgery can be initiated before induction by anesthesia and continues in the post operative phase , in the intensive care unit (ICU). EEG monitoring is useful to detect seizures . The most common neurological symptoms manifest in the neonatal cardiac surgical intensive care unit include Non convulsive seizures and Status Epilepticus; the primary cause being Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy(HIC). Studies reveal that the incidents of HIC increase in the presence of adverse events like cardiac arrest and also in the use of Mechanical Circulatory Support, ECMO,etc. EEG can be influenced by the use of hypothermia and anesthetic agents. Essay on The Role of the Reflexive Ethnographer The Role of the Reflexive Ethnographer Works Cited Missing The role of the reflexive ethnographer has been constantly defined and redefined since the beginning of the study of anthropology. The use of reflexivity has and will always be questioned in anthropology. Malinowski, who was a pioneer in the field of anthropology, discouraged the use of reflexivity; he, instead, believed that anthropology was scientific and could produce concrete evidence (Malinowski 17). Reflexivity is way in which anthropologists try to get rid of this scientific and rigid anthropology; it is a move towards an emotional and self reflective anthropology. These ethnographies have been also called inadequate science (Visweswaran 21); this is in relation to Malinowski s belief that anthropology is a structured and scientific method. It is ironic then that men are heralded as exemplars of this new genre (Visweswaran 22) when women began reflexivity before them. Visweswaran goes on to analyze these formerly unknown and ignored female texts; she looks at these ethnographies to make her own ethnography. These ethnographies, for Visweswaran, are ethnographies in the text themselves; they reveal the female author s complex negotiation of positionality within a single gender domain (Visweswaran 27). John Stuart Mill and Georg Hegel tackle this notion of freedom. Mills states that freedom is when individuals have unlimited liberty, while Hegel says that is a false freedom. He states that freedom is when the individual s morals align with external laws within the nation state. Despite what many say freedom is more similar in Hegel s and Mills than different. We can see this through Hegel s notion of absolute mind and Mill s value of liberty and notion of diversity. God is absolute mind, God is the totality of human thinking and through spirit God is becoming aware of its own self consciousness to reach even higher levels of consciousness. This is the notion of absolute mind according to Hegel, he mentions that during this process of absolute mind of becoming aware of itself.
