Justice In The Crucible
The Crucible Essay Isn t America the home of Liberty and Justice for all? Well then, you d be
surprised to hear that every year there are hundreds of cases where confessions are either coerced or
otherwise forced through illegal means by the police.(Source #3) Through the novel The Crucible and
the article A True Confession legal processes can be seen to have a bias against defendants, in that
defendants can be prey to coercion and intimidation by the prosecution or law enforcement, reflecting
major flaws in justice systems themselves despite the expectation by people that justice systems ought
to be fair. In addition, the similar injustices of these two, despite their extremely different
backgrounds, can be seen as something inherent to human nature and the way that authority is formed
in societies and how that authority tends towards injustice towards those that it has control over.
The Crucible is a fiction novel by Arthur Miller that takes place in Salem, Massachusetts at around
1962. It is about how people lose their lives and how the town is almost brought to ruin because of
witchcraft accusations. In the novel, it can be seen that the trial system is grossly unfair, with only an
accusation being required in order to send someone to jail, allegedly due to [insert witchcraft is

Lovely English in The Red Badge of Courage by Henry Flemming
So it came to pass that as he trudged from the place of blood and wrath his soul changed (Crane 139).
The Red Badge of Courage is a great American classic, and this wonderful quote sums up the entire
novel from start to finish. The novel is a novel about a solider in the civil war who deals with the
difficulties of being in war. The novel follows and captures his journey using many literary elements.
Crane s use of style, plot, setting, and characters help enhance the story. The use of these literary
elements helps enhance the novel and help readers understand the struggles of a solider during the
civil war. The first important element in The Red Badge of Courage that helps convey the theme of the
novel is style. Early on in the novel, Henry Fleming thinks to himself about the upcoming battle. The
other commented He felt alone in space when his injured comrade had disappeared (Crane 18). This
example shows that even though the narrator is not Henry, the third person narrator knows the
thoughts of Henry. Knowing the thoughts of Henry is major in the plot and the characterization of the
story. Henry s thoughts not only drive his own actions, but the thoughts of the reader. Reader s get into
the story because they know the internal conflicts of Henry. Another part of style that really enhances
Crane s writing is the use of vivid imagery. One does not have to go very far the in the story to find an
example of imagery in the novel. In the first paragraph, it talks about

Futurism and advertising in the 1960s space age
Futurism was an artistic and social movement originating from 20th century Italy. The movement
ultimately rejected anything that looked to the past for identity. Instead, it glorified speed, technology,
youth, and the idea of anything industrial and mass produced. As the founders of the movement would
have it, the movement explored different mediums of art and design, ultimately overarching each
other, and finding its way into many aspects of daily life; including and not limited to conventional
mediums such as painting, sculpture architecture, film, music, poetry, and photography; just to name a
few. With its dynamic and innovative aesthetic qualities, it is still being appreciated and used in
conceptual ways by a handful of present day designers and art directors as seen in Image 1 (MCM ...

School support staff consists of administrative assistants, teacher s aides, paraprofessionals, nurses,

the most important things to how a school can be run smoothly. At Packer, we have a strong group of

As an educator who is always striving to expand myself professional, I do not see myself as a district

Water Contamination Research Paper
Water contamination due to increased population and industrial activities is one of the most
challenging issues to the researchers, because it is continuously increasing threats to both human
health and the environment. With the rapid development of industries such as metal plating facilities,
mining operations, fertilizer industries, tanneries, batteries, paper industries and pesticides, etc.,(1,2)
heavy metals wastewaters are directly or indirectly discharged into the environment increasingly,
especially in developing countries. Unlike organic contaminants, heavy metals are not biodegradable
and tend to accumulate in living organisms. Many heavy metal ions are known to be toxic or

Owing to the standard limits of water, it generates a strong demand to improve the efficiency of
existing methods for removing Pb and Zn from the water. Many techniques have been reported for the
effective removal of hazardous heavy metals from aqueous solutions such as adsorption, flocculation,
coagulation, membrane filtration, electrochemical operations, solvent extraction, bio sorption,
chemical precipitation, ion exchange, as well as various other processes (6 7). However, most of these
techniques have several disadvantages such as production of secondary pollution, high cost, high
levels of energy and chemicals needed, and weak treatment operation at low metal concentrations. (8

treatment. The adsorption process offers flexibility in design and operation and in many cases will

animals, said Ceci Pratt, founder and teacher at Zen Yoga. Pratt said she knew about this idea since

Summary Of Chaim Potok s The Chosen
In the world today finding someone full of wisdom is rare. In the book The Chosen, Chaim Potok
depicts four extremely wise men: Reb Saunders, David Malter, Reuven Malter, and Danny Saunders.
The younger boys Reuven Malter and Danny Saunders, are the sons of Reb Saunders and David
Malter. These men demonstrate knowledge in many areas of their lives, and all strive to improve, learn
more about God, and understand the world around them. The fathers and their sons seek wisdom and
knowledge through schooling, show wisdom in their relationships and friendships with each other, and
pursue personal excellence.
These two families embrace education as essential, and the families do not take it lightly. The boys
were expected to do well and at times school consumed their entire lives. Reuven, who planned to
become a rabbi like his father, was an excellent mathematician, and thought logically. Danny loved
psychology and reading, but due to his father being a very strict Hasidic Jewish Rabi, he did not allow
Danny the luxury to study books other than the Talmud. But to study Torah is not such a simple thing.
Torah is a task for all day and all night. (132). As a result, Danny often snuck to a place in the library
to read and study other things. He could not get enough and even began questioning whether or not he
wanted to be a rabbi as expected. His father was counting on him to take his place, and if he did not it
would disgrace the family. Both fathers held similar views on schooling and the importance of
education and wisdom. They knew that in order for their sons to fulfill their roles in life or to follow
their dreams the boys needed an education.
The relationships between the boys brought the families a little closer than before. Although Reb
Saunders and Mr. Malter did not agree on their theology they had one huge thing in common, Danny
and Reuven were best friends. Their fathers poured wisdom into their friendship so that it could be
strong and lasting. You remember what the Talmud says. If a person comes to apologize for having
hurt you, you must listen and forgive him. (63). Mr. Malter explained to Reuven that he should forgive
Danny who had come to ask for forgiveness after hitting Reuven in

Cardiovascular Disease ( Cvd )
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the number one cause of death in the United States (Swain, 2013,
p.619). On average, CVD kills 17.1 million people a year in the United States (Swain, 2013, p.619).
CVD encompasses sub diseases that affect the heart and the circulatory system. Myocardial infarction
is a life threatening product of CVD and is commonly known as a heart attack. Blood flow is occluded
to a section of the heart in response to thrombus which is a blood clot formed in the vessel. The
occluded section results in heart muscle death (Swain, 2013, p.619). Every year, an average of
785,000 United States citizens die from a myocardial infarction; of those: 470,000 will have a
recurrent episode (Balady et al., 2011). Within five years of the initial myocardial infarction 22% of
men and women will suffer a fatal myocardial infarction or fatal coronary heart disease (CHD)
(Balady et al., 2011). Cardiac rehabilitation is a form of secondary prevention used post myocardial
infarction, with chronic stable angina, heart failure, coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) or
percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA). Cardiac rehabilitation aims to stabilize the
condition, slow the progressive rate of the disease, and in some instances reverse CVD (Balady et al.,
2011). Cardiac rehabilitation is defined as, the implementation of strategies and provision of support
to help people with heart disease return to an active and fulfilling life and to prevent occurrence

Igor Stravinsky Rite Of Spring Essay
Igor Stravinsky s piece the Rite of Spring is probably one of the well known pieces during the 20th
century. Igor Stravinsky really changed the way music was during the 20th century with his very
popular piece the Rite of Spring. In the beginning of Stravinsky s piece the Rite of Spring the rhythm
is somewhat fast. The tempo of the piece changes throughout the piece. At times the piece can have an
average pace and then pick up to a fast tempo again. There is no clear solid rhythm to the piece
because the tempo changes throughout the entire piece. The melody of this piece for the most part is
very disjointed and jumpy. Throughout the entirety of the piece it is harsh sounding, but there are

multiple melodies being played at the same time. In some aspects of the piece it can be considered
homophonic, but the piece is mostly polyphonic. The piece has very high complexity in terms of
texture and structure. For the duration of this piece a large amount of instruments were used. Some of
these instruments include bassoon flutes, flutes, horns, trumpets, trombones, tubs, strings, drums, and
even a triangle. So the amount of instruments used in this piece is very abundant, which would entail
an orchestra. A lot of the meter ranges in this piece can be very different. But a lot of what you can
hear is a 4/4 meter and either a 2/4 meter. Throughout this piece it is hard to determine the piece s
main meter because it is constantly changing. The form of this piece is sort of the same way. It is hard
to determine the form of this piece, but it can be considered binary form. It is binary because of the
contrast within the piece. The genre of this piece is that of a ballet. This piece also is considered a

Foreshadowing In Bible
All things considered, God always had in mind one plan for salvation. Since, the promise made to
Adam and Eve in Genesis 3:15 were He says, And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and
between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel the devil had
tried to deceive us with the biggest lie, that there are many ways to come to God. As a result, most
religions view God as a being that modifies according to peoples standards, peoples view point,
peoples believe, and their own interpretation of the Bible. However, that is not how God runs the
universe. In fact, the main reason for God to establish the temple among the Jews was in order to serve

Another key point, is that every sacrifice ceremony was providing just a temporary covering of once
sin, and could never take it away forever. On the other hand, the foreshadowing of the perfect Lamb,
would come to remove sin forever. That is what the temple represented, that there is one way to
heaven, the lamb slain, Jesus Christ. Now, the time has come to have faith in Jesus Christ for salvation
of our souls. The temple is no longer needed. In effect, no longer we need to wait for the foreshadow
of Jesus Christ, we no longer need to slain a sheep to cover our sins, we no longer need to seek God
on an altar, as he dwells within us through the Holy Spirit. God has never given us a spirit of fear,
rather a spirit of faith in Jesus Christ. Under those circumstances, when Jesus declared, I am the way,
is the reason why Jews hated Him. As a result, they were intolerance with Him and Christians, until
this day. The Bible speaks of Jesus Christ becoming the stumbling rock for the Jews by not accepting
his vicarious death. In fact, the incredible thing about Jesus is that He is the way, the truth and the life

Recently we have seen sizeable business, corporations, governmental agencies, and banking

hackers who in turn exploit them in out of date infrastructure standards and developments such as the
Internet of Things (IoT) have emerged to present an entirely new set of infrastructure challenges.
Hackers continue to develop novel methods to breach the security of the institutions they target. These
methods are increasingly more sophisticated and difficult to detect with the tools and programs
designed to detect attacks and intrusions. In addition, with this increasing amount of threats, fresh

The Space Of Space Exploration Essay
Introduction
One of the greatest unknowns within our human existence is life outside of our known universe;
decades of research, teamwork and funding have manifested phenomenal scientific triumphs in the
fields of space exploration and aeronautics. The forefront of this Space Race arguably began with the
Sputnik, a Russian artificial satellite launched in the late 1950 s. Following the launch of Sputnik 1,
the genesis of American competitive space exploration built roots in the formation of NASA under the
Presidency of Dwight D. Eisenhower. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration was
founded in 1958 under a premise of competitive space exploration and continued discovery of truths
residing outside of our existence on planet Earth. NASA externally competes with other teams of
space explorers, which primarily includes Russia s Federal Space Agency, commonly called
Roscosmos. However, moving away from Cold War competitiveness and the race to build the biggest
and best rockets, NASA has fostered over fifty years worth of the most fortified and cohesive
teamwork in the fields of science and aerospace engineering.
The unwavering cohesion of NASA engineers, scientists and explorers has exclusively demanded the
best and brightest to work on their teams. External pressures both on and off of the deployed NASA
spacecraft render their employees to work with the strongest teamwork achievable between their
highly diverse team members. NASA continues to recruit

Protest Music In The 1960s
Protest music has been frequently used by social justice movements to promote their ideologies and to
protest policies and actions they see as unjust. The most focused on era in terms of protest music is
likely the 1960s, for obvious reasons. During this time, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Pete Seeger, and other
musicians used folk music to protest the Vietnam War ( Fortunate Son ), segregation and Jim Crow
laws ( Only a Pawn in Their Game ), and the Cold War ( Masters of War ). However, the progenitors
of the activist musicians of the 1960s were musicians affiliated with the pacifist, pro union, and early
civil rights movements from about 1910 to about 1940, who were amongst the first to utilize their
music to galvanize support for political and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although major issues such as Jim Crow laws, labor conflicts, and economic uncertainties still
existed, the majority of people thought of the 1920s as a period of unrivalled prosperity which would
never end, and believed that the standard of living would go inexorably upwards, forever, or at least
for a long period of time. Of course, these visions would prove false when the stock market crashed in
1929. As the Great Depression wore on, Americans became increasingly aware of the tragedies many
faced in the United States, and the plight of poor workers again became the subject of a great number
of protest songs. This time, the leading singer activist affiliated with the labor movement was not Joe
Hill, but Aunt Molly Jackson. Jackson, who was raised in a coal mining town in Kentucky in the late
19th century, was a member of the United Mine Workers during the Harlan County War in Kentucky
of 1931 32, a conflict in which unionized miners fought with mine operators. Her first husband was
killed in a mining accident, and her father was blinded in another accident. Her songs political
contents, including Ragged, Hungry Blues and I am a Union Woman, gave her some fame when the
conflict began. In December of 1931, Jackson travelled to New York to raise money for the coal
miners engaged in the Harlan County War, and met fame as a pro labor musician and protester.

Meaning Of Respect In Confucius
As time goes by, respect is being lost and forgotten. Even the definition of respect seems to be a bit
muddied. Many people are forgetting the one golden rule that still applies. The golden rule being treat
others the way you would want to be treated. People nowadays tend to turn respect towards things that
are worthy of praise and they are forgetting to keep the same respect to everything else. No matter the
color of someone s skin, the religion they believe in, and where they come from everyone deserves
and should get respect, in Confucius s teachings, as a basic human element and many Asian countries,
respect is a major characteristic and etiquette that people are learning and quickly forgetting.
Subclaim I (body paragraph)
As far back as 500 BC, Confucius lived in a time of warfare among the states that made up China.
During these times there were rapid political changes in the society and people were forgetting and no
longer respecting that traditional standards of social behavior. (...) many people no longer respected
the traditional standards of social behavior. Confucius feared that this threat to orderly social
relationships would lead to the destruction of civilization. With the concern that people were losing all

Irony In Ballad Of Birmingham
In the Ballad of Birmingham by Dudley Randall, the story focuses around an African American girl
who wants to go march in downtown Birmingham so that she in contributing to the protest for
freedom. Her mother refuses to let her young girl go due to the horrible violence that it entitles.
Instead of going to the march, the mother sends her innocent child to church instead thinking that she
would be safer there than in Birmingham. What are the odds that her daughter died in church and not
at the march? Nothing bad could happen, right? The single most key element that shapes the entire
meaning on the poem is the irony in the situation that actually took place in 1963. Though she begged
but, mother, I won t be alone, / other children will go with me (Randall 9 10), the girl s mother would
not allow her child to be put in the face of danger. The freedom marches were anything but pleasant
because like the mother says, I fear those guns will fire (Randall 14). Dogs were released on African
Americans, they were doused in water from firetruck hoses, and even gun fire made an appearance in
response to their protests. The freedom ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

no risk attending church and singing in the choir unlike the march as it was a chaos of violence.
Therefore, the fact that the child died in a church bombing instead of at the Freedom March is nothing
but irony, and it shapes this poem entirely. The one place that is sacred ended up being the burial
ground of a child who would have been safer at the march, and who would have made it back home to

Relationship Between Odysseus And Ovid
Semira Mohammed Engl 2111 11/18/14 In all the epic stories we read, it suggests that Gods and
goddesses feel a strong attraction for humans. This attraction helps explain the interest the gods take in
human lives and the tendency of gods goddesses to force themselves upon humans. They lose control
when it comes to love, because love is something they can t control just as much as we all humans can
t and in the epic of homer s, Virgil and Ovid, we see that happening. In the epic of homer s, Thetis and

The Radical Period of The French Revolution Essay
The Radical Period of The French Revolution
By the end of 1971, Europe was preparing to witness the end of a seemingly triumphant revolution in
France. The country was restructuring its government in a forceful and bloodless manner, while the
tyrant King
Louis the XVI agreed to the demands of the masses (albeit without much choice). However, due to the
fanatical aspirations of men such as Danton,
Marat and Robespierre,it would be only a matter of months before the moderate stage of social and
political reform was transformed into a radical phase of barbaric and violent force. In their quest for
freedom, equality and fraternity, the leaders of the Jacobins inadvertently turned the revolution into an
oligarchic dictatorship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moderate forces preferred to concentrate on the foreign affairs of new France, but the radicals insisted
on domestic stability first. Led by the popular
Danton and the merciless Marat, the Paris Commune discarded the old constitution and called for a
National Convention to begin work on a new, revised version.
The National Convention, divided by the moderate Girondins and the radical Jacobins, was the place
where the future of the country was to be eventually determined. It was the premise of the Jacobins
that they should eradicate the enemy within and secure the destiny of the revolution through the
destruction of counter revolutionary forces. They believed that by weeding out those who opposed the
revolution, they could achieve their goals quickly and efficiently. The Girondins were not so quick to
agree with the Jacobins, and so political deadlock begin to form in the
Convention. It was not until after the September massacres, when 1200 prisoners were executed
without trials, that Robespierre and his followers were able to justify their premise. They condemned
the actions of the unruly mobs that caused the deaths of innocent Frenchmen and demanded that the
Monarchy be abolished in order to eliminate as many of the royalists and monarchists that still
remained. It was Marat with his want 100,000 heads to fall speeches that convinced the masses that
those who were not in favour of the revolution had to be dealt with immediately

John Locke s Theory Of Religious Tolerance
John Locke, a 17th century English philosopher is remembered for his great contributions to three
issues that was important during his time and still concerns us today. The three topics Locke covered
during his lifetime was how to handle people with different religion, determining who should rule, and
how to educate our children. Locke developed theories from the three topics because they played a
central role in his life. Religion politics and education influence Locke s writing and because of his
writing we have a foundation of modern philosophical empiricism and political liberalism. Locke was
born during the 20 year English Civil War. Due to the result in the death of Charles I, England
reinvented themselves so that the church and the state will be combined. Locke did not agree that the
government should rule over religion. He believed in freedom of belief. His theories of religious
tolerance was written in Letters Concerning Toleration (1689 92) due to the aftermath of the European
wars of religion, creating reasoning for religious tolerance. Three main arguments that was stated
included (1) Earthly judges, the state in particular, and human beings generally, cannot dependably
evaluate the truth claims of competing religious standpoints. (2) Even if they could, enforcing a single
True Religion will not work, because you can t be compelled in to believe through violence. (3)
Coercing religious uniformity leads to far more social disorder than allowing diversity.

Use Of Mood In Ray Bradbury s Marionettes, Inc.
Throughout Ray Bradbury s work, the common topic appears to be technology and its negatives,
warning of how it is slowly and silently consuming the lives of many. Thusly, the mood mustn t be
joyful or encouraging, but rather eerie, mysterious, and unsettling; otherwise, the story s effect would
be tarnished and mismatched. Therefore, one of the most important things writers must take into
consideration is how this mood will be communicated subtly throughout the story, as one cannot just
state that something is sad or happy, for this would not fully engross the reader. Rather, one of the
main ways authors tend to enforce the mood and tone of the story is through diction, one of the main
reasons Bradbury s pieces, such as The Veldt or Marionettes, ... Show more content on

For example, Braling describes his marionette as natural as natural is, able to eat, sleep, perspire
everything (Braling 215). This is directly comparative to how the room was described in The Veldt,
with both the marionettes and the room being nearly indistinguishable from the real things they
represent, with one small flaw, the ticking of the heart and the doorway respectively. In addition, the
marionette is almost always referred to as a foreign invader, someone not welcome but taking over
anyway, being called a shade, (Bradbury 213) creature, (Bradbury 218) specimen, (Braling 219) or
just someone (Bradbury 221). Being unknown and unwelcome, this is something the reader is
naturally afraid of, supplementing the already thick feeling of uneasiness and anxiety in the writing.
Even the sound of the marionettes chests enforces this anxiety and worry, giving off a Tick tick tick
tick tick tick tick tick. (Bradbury 214) akin to a bomb about to explode, enforcing the anxious mood
and building up to how the creation of these marionettes metaphorically explodes back at the
characters. Furthermore, throughout the story, the author uses words of hesitation, fear, and,
sometimes, harsh force to further weave the thread of uneasiness, such as staggered, appalled,
(Bradbury 214) tremble, (Bradbury 215) crushing, bruised, (Bradbury 216) ached, cracked, groaned,
(Bradbury 217) shivered, collapsed, fever, disillusionment, (Bradbury 218) and metal firm grip,
(Bradbury 220). In summary, both stories use diction in a similar way, using fearful and shocking
words interspersed to create a constant anxious and unsettling mood, the reader always unknowing of

Analysis Of Opposition By Mitsuharu Kaneko
The poet Mitsuharu Kaneko, also known as the writer of the poem, Opposition, is widely known as an
anti war and anti establishmentarianism figure, and freely expressed his disdain towards Japan s
dictatorship at his time. Due to this, he reflects his desire for people to oppose it and live with freedom
in a poem that is centered around the theme of resistance in order to illustrate the importance of one
expressing their individuality. He successfully incorporates his message into the poem through the
words, actions, and characterization of his speaker. The speaker expresses their ideas by using each
stanza to display different examples of the basic, normal aspects of society to emphasize that one
should not be afraid to step out of the boundaries that trap them in the regular aspects of society,
conveying the message that to oppose is to truly live with freedom. The first stanza begins with the
speaker displaying opposition towards the normal side of society to convey their message. They
address how when they were young, they opposed to school (2), and now, again (3), which indicates
that they are adults in the present, they are opposed to work (4), establishing the speaker as a prideful,
spirited person by displaying how in both their younger days and now, they are opposed to something
that is considered a fundamental requirement for everyone in the world, which is school and work.
This is further proven by the lines, When I m asked for what I was born, /

An Essay About The Parthenon
The Parthenon, once a magnificent work of art, has long been an archeological ruin with pieces of the
sculptures that were once a part of it on display in many European museums and, of course, in Greece.
Those locations other than Greece have been the center of a long going debate regarding whether the
sculptures should remain in those places or if they should be sent back to whence they came. The
sculptures are a part of Greek history, and they were once attached to The Parthenon, created as a
temple for Greek goddess Athena. Greece should have the right to put all their pieces from this
creation on display in their own museums and buildings. The marbles began in Greece, and they
should end up back in Greece as well. The area on which the Parthenon was built was not always a
barren rock hill. The area surrounding the Parthenon used to be a village complete with houses and
gardens. It was like this until the 1830s when the Greeks won their war for independence from Turkish
rule. There was then a new ascension to the throne by a Bavarian Prince named Otto. He wanted to
find a way to showcase symbols of patriotism in a country that was starting anew at the end of the war.
Because of this, the area around the Parthenon is now The Acropolis hill, which is no longer a village,

And The Imporatance In The Gambler, By Fyodor Dostoyevsky
The Gambler and the imporatance of distinct charachters in novels
No one can deny that the psychological novel displays to the greatest extent how a variety of different
characters is important for an enjoyable read. Such is the emphasis on the internal events and the inner
mental life of its characters, that this type of the novel is probably one of a kind in which
characterization is more prominent than in all other literary genres. First examples originate from
earlier epochs, but only a few could argue whether one of the greatest representatives of this genre was
a Russian writer Fyodor Dostoyevsky or not. Though he is best known for his other novels, Crime and
Punishment, The Idiot, The Possessed and The Brothers Karamazov, this text offers a take on
characters of his fascinating short novel The Gambler which was written in 1866. Two topics are
woven within the zealously intricated storyline. The one is desperate longing for a distant woman and

  • 2. Justice In The Crucible The Crucible Essay Isn t America the home of Liberty and Justice for all? Well then, you d be surprised to hear that every year there are hundreds of cases where confessions are either coerced or otherwise forced through illegal means by the police.(Source #3) Through the novel The Crucible and the article A True Confession legal processes can be seen to have a bias against defendants, in that defendants can be prey to coercion and intimidation by the prosecution or law enforcement, reflecting major flaws in justice systems themselves despite the expectation by people that justice systems ought to be fair. In addition, the similar injustices of these two, despite their extremely different backgrounds, can be seen as something inherent to human nature and the way that authority is formed in societies and how that authority tends towards injustice towards those that it has control over. The Crucible is a fiction novel by Arthur Miller that takes place in Salem, Massachusetts at around 1962. • 3. Lovely English in The Red Badge of Courage by Henry Flemming So it came to pass that as he trudged from the place of blood and wrath his soul changed (Crane 139). The Red Badge of Courage is a great American classic, and this wonderful quote sums up the entire novel from start to finish. The novel is a novel about a solider in the civil war who deals with the difficulties of being in war. The novel follows and captures his journey using many literary elements. Crane s use of style, plot, setting, and characters help enhance the story. The use of these literary elements helps enhance the novel and help readers understand the struggles of a solider during the civil war. The first important element in The Red Badge of Courage that helps convey the theme of the novel is style. Early on in the novel, Henry Fleming thinks to himself about the upcoming battle. The other commented He felt alone in space when his injured comrade had disappeared (Crane 18). This example shows that even though the narrator is not Henry, the third person narrator knows the thoughts of Henry. Knowing the thoughts of Henry is major in the plot and the characterization of the story. Henry s thoughts not only drive his own actions, but the thoughts of the reader. Reader s get into the story because they know the internal conflicts of Henry. Another part of style that really enhances Crane s writing is the use of vivid imagery. One does not have to go very far the in the story to find an example of imagery in the novel. In the first paragraph, it talks about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Summary Of Chaim Potok s The Chosen In the world today finding someone full of wisdom is rare. In the book The Chosen, Chaim Potok depicts four extremely wise men: Reb Saunders, David Malter, Reuven Malter, and Danny Saunders. The younger boys Reuven Malter and Danny Saunders, are the sons of Reb Saunders and David Malter. These men demonstrate knowledge in many areas of their lives, and all strive to improve, learn more about God, and understand the world around them. The fathers and their sons seek wisdom and knowledge through schooling, show wisdom in their relationships and friendships with each other, and pursue personal excellence. These two families embrace education as essential, and the families do not take it lightly. The boys were expected to do well and at times school consumed their entire lives. Reuven, who planned to become a rabbi like his father, was an excellent mathematician, and thought logically. Danny loved psychology and reading, but due to his father being a very strict Hasidic Jewish Rabi, he did not allow Danny the luxury to study books other than the Talmud. But to study Torah is not such a simple thing. Torah is a task for all day and all night. (132). As a result, Danny often snuck to a place in the library to read and study other things. He could not get enough and even began questioning whether or not he wanted to be a rabbi as expected. His father was counting on him to take his place, and if he did not it would disgrace the family. Both fathers held similar views on schooling and the importance of education and wisdom. They knew that in order for their sons to fulfill their roles in life or to follow their dreams the boys needed an education. The relationships between the boys brought the families a little closer than before. Although Reb Saunders and Mr. Malter did not agree on their theology they had one huge thing in common, Danny and Reuven were best friends. Their fathers poured wisdom into their friendship so that it could be strong and lasting. You remember what the Talmud says. If a person comes to apologize for having hurt you, you must listen and forgive him. (63). Mr. Malter explained to Reuven that he should forgive Danny who had come to ask for forgiveness after hitting Reuven in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What Are Jim Crow Laws Affirmation ... genuine friendships developed between the French and black American soldiers, and the level of cooperation between the two forces seemed nothing short of miraculous in light of recent experiences in the U.S. Army. Here both sides needed each other. This part of the chapter resonated with me. Despite of the racism towards the African American, it was surprising to see that a genuine relationship developed between the French and black American soldiers. This occurrence shows that good things happen in a bad situation. Investigation I was not sure about what is America s Jim Crow policies (very naïve of me). I found out that, Jim Crow Law is a name of a local and state law regulating or restricting social interactions between two races. More than a system, it was a way of life. According to the law, the Whites are Chosen people and the Black were seen as the lower caste and servants. • 33. Use Of Mood In Ray Bradbury s Marionettes, Inc. Throughout Ray Bradbury s work, the common topic appears to be technology and its negatives, warning of how it is slowly and silently consuming the lives of many. Thusly, the mood mustn t be joyful or encouraging, but rather eerie, mysterious, and unsettling; otherwise, the story s effect would be tarnished and mismatched. Therefore, one of the most important things writers must take into consideration is how this mood will be communicated subtly throughout the story, as one cannot just state that something is sad or happy, for this would not fully engross the reader. Rather, one of the main ways authors tend to enforce the mood and tone of the story is through diction, one of the main reasons Bradbury s pieces, such as The Veldt or Marionettes, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, Braling describes his marionette as natural as natural is, able to eat, sleep, perspire everything (Braling 215). This is directly comparative to how the room was described in The Veldt, with both the marionettes and the room being nearly indistinguishable from the real things they represent, with one small flaw, the ticking of the heart and the doorway respectively. In addition, the marionette is almost always referred to as a foreign invader, someone not welcome but taking over anyway, being called a shade, (Bradbury 213) creature, (Bradbury 218) specimen, (Braling 219) or just someone (Bradbury 221). Being unknown and unwelcome, this is something the reader is naturally afraid of, supplementing the already thick feeling of uneasiness and anxiety in the writing. Even the sound of the marionettes chests enforces this anxiety and worry, giving off a Tick tick tick tick tick tick tick tick. (Bradbury 214) akin to a bomb about to explode, enforcing the anxious mood and building up to how the creation of these marionettes metaphorically explodes back at the characters. Furthermore, throughout the story, the author uses words of hesitation, fear, and, sometimes, harsh force to further weave the thread of uneasiness, such as staggered, appalled, (Bradbury 214) tremble, (Bradbury 215) crushing, bruised, (Bradbury 216) ached, cracked, groaned, (Bradbury 217) shivered, collapsed, fever, disillusionment, (Bradbury 218) and metal firm grip, (Bradbury 220). In summary, both stories use diction in a similar way, using fearful and shocking words interspersed to create a constant anxious and unsettling mood, the reader always unknowing of what will come ... Analysis Of Opposition By Mitsuharu Kaneko The poet Mitsuharu Kaneko, also known as the writer of the poem, Opposition, is widely known as an anti war and anti establishmentarianism figure, and freely expressed his disdain towards Japan s dictatorship at his time. Due to this, he reflects his desire for people to oppose it and live with freedom in a poem that is centered around the theme of resistance in order to illustrate the importance of one expressing their individuality. He successfully incorporates his message into the poem through the words, actions, and characterization of his speaker. The speaker expresses their ideas by using each stanza to display different examples of the basic, normal aspects of society to emphasize that one should not be afraid to step out of the boundaries that trap them in the regular aspects of society, conveying the message that to oppose is to truly live with freedom. The first stanza begins with the speaker displaying opposition towards the normal side of society to convey their message. They address how when they were young, they opposed to school (2), and now, again (3), which indicates that they are adults in the present, they are opposed to work (4), establishing the speaker as a prideful, spirited person by displaying how in both their younger days and now, they are opposed to something that is considered a fundamental requirement for everyone in the world, which is school and work. • 36. An Essay About The Parthenon The Parthenon, once a magnificent work of art, has long been an archeological ruin with pieces of the sculptures that were once a part of it on display in many European museums and, of course, in Greece. Those locations other than Greece have been the center of a long going debate regarding whether the sculptures should remain in those places or if they should be sent back to whence they came. The sculptures are a part of Greek history, and they were once attached to The Parthenon, created as a temple for Greek goddess Athena. Greece should have the right to put all their pieces from this creation on display in their own museums and buildings. The marbles began in Greece, and they should end up back in Greece as well. The area on which the Parthenon was built was not always a barren rock hill. The area surrounding the Parthenon used to be a village complete with houses and gardens. It was like this until the 1830s when the Greeks won their war for independence from Turkish rule. There was then a new ascension to the throne by a Bavarian Prince named Otto. He wanted to find a way to showcase symbols of patriotism in a country that was starting anew at the end of the war. • 37. And The Imporatance In The Gambler, By Fyodor Dostoyevsky The Gambler and the imporatance of distinct charachters in novels No one can deny that the psychological novel displays to the greatest extent how a variety of different characters is important for an enjoyable read. Such is the emphasis on the internal events and the inner mental life of its characters, that this type of the novel is probably one of a kind in which characterization is more prominent than in all other literary genres. First examples originate from earlier epochs, but only a few could argue whether one of the greatest representatives of this genre was a Russian writer Fyodor Dostoyevsky or not. Though he is best known for his other novels, Crime and Punishment, The Idiot, The Possessed and The Brothers Karamazov, this text offers a take on characters of his fascinating short novel The Gambler which was written in 1866. Two topics are woven within the zealously intricated storyline.
