The National Football League ( Nfl )
The National Football League(NFL) is running one of its own games on the public, and as one the
most supported non profit organizations in American history. The NFL excels at tackling the American
taxpayer. It should be of no surprise that with its religious like following, the NFL receives the same
tax exempt status as a church, exempted under the IRS 501 (c)(6) code from paying federal taxes. The
legislation puts the NFL as a non profit trade association which it has been under since 1942. This
statement intends me to ask what Steve Almond asked in his book Against Football: One Fan s
Reluctant Manifesto how did this happen (Almond pg.81)? Imagine driving through a city. The things
you see around you are: average constructed schools, average constructed houses, bumpy roads, and
very old structured buildings. Oh but wait, in the middle of the city you see a huge modern electrical
sign on top of a huge modern structure saying The Coca Cola Arena . At this minute you may ask,
how can a very average sized constructed town have one the most fascinating buildings in the world?
This to me is very controversial and leads me to agree with Steve Almonds claim that the NFL is an
ideal model of crony capitalism and a corporate oligarchy. let s try to answer the question why the
heck the NFL is tax exempt. Business leagues, chambers of commerce, real estate boards, boards of
trade professional football leagues; these are the five kinds of organizations that the IRS says can

Steve Lawhead s Poem The Sun Goes Down On Summer
Changing is Growing Throughout this poem, The Sun Goes Down on Summer by.Steve Lawhead, a
student is worried about going back to school after summer break. He shows a significant concern for
his grades, behavior, academic achievements and societal interactions, and is trying to come to terms
with his impending doom he faces. Time and again in the poem, the author expresses their worries
about fitting in, being himself and making friends. By the time the poem ends the author seems to
have accepted that he should just be himself and take on the new year, 41 42 When the doors open on

This infers that this line is designed to convey to the reader that the author is self conscious about who

expressing these concerns, he talks about not making the first football practice, 23 Football practice

football was a cliche he had previously relied on for identity and fitting in. However, he claims to have

Zinn Columbus Summary
In scholarly documents, authors have a tendency toward certain biases scratching the surface of
certain events while going in depth to others. Zinn s application to Samuel Eliot Morison s book
regarding Columbus is clear evidence of neglect on aspects of history (i.e. genocide of Native
Americans). Morison s emphasis [on] the heroism of Columbus and his successors as navigators and
discoverers, and de emphasis [on] their genocide, is not a technical necessity but an ideological choice
(Zinn Ch. 1). In Morison s belief, Columbus was a hero worth praising, even though he enacted cruel
acts of violence. He takes note of Columbus s misgivings, yet chooses to avoid the topic overall;
Morison, under his ideological beliefs, decided to paint a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is therefore more deadly (Zinn Ch. 1). The danger of fallacies in scholarly works are much more
detrimental to people s conception of history, science, etc. than that of fallacies of politicians. One
usually accepts the textbook discussions of a scholar, while acts more objectively to political rhetoric
because of long standing predispositions. Thus, people often hold trust to scholarly works, but
insodoing, they allow influence that might just be unaligned with reality. With all of the monstrosities
that have occurred, one can only hope that our future may be found in the past s fugitive moments of
compassion rather than in its solid centuries of warfare (Zinn Ch. 1). Because it is seemingly
impossible to find peace in the world, many fear that the future will be marred with violence and
destruction following the example that has already occurred. Nevertheless, Zinn hopes that the future
will be better than the past; he hopes that they, rather than follow genocidal acts that have occurred in
the past, will follow the loving and compassionate acts that

Application for Master Degree in Theory and Computational...
In this ever changing world of computers, where computer systems grow more efficient, intelligent
and complex, I find the in depth study of computing concepts not only appealing but also
indispensable. As I move ahead in the future, I strongly desire for a program that would help me build
a comprehensive foundation in the field of Computer Science. Within this field, I have developed a
deep interest in the area of Theory and Computational Science. More specifically I find algorithms and
theory of computation the most appealing areas due to their application in solving many real world
problems.

Throughout my professional career as a Java/J2EE Developer, I was involved in integrating diverse
Java web technologies to create highly qualified web applications. Primarily my responsibilities
included: Analyzing new business requirements, proposing technical solutions for design and
implementation, coding and testing. For the Global Protein Separation project, a web based
application for our client GE Healthcare at Tata Consultancy Services, I got the opportunity to work as
a Project Leader . I gained an understanding of the phases involved in developing a web application
from scratch. The purpose was to migrate the system which existed in Oracle Forms to a browser
based Java application incorporating new features and functional requirements.I was involved in
designing the web interface, implementing MVC architecture using Struts2 framework, integrating
security features and backend functionalities. As a project lead, I also exercised my managerial skills
including supervising audit, project management and delivery.
At Capgemini, I worked for our client, Morgan Stanley Investment Management as an Associate

European Renaissance Reformation And Exploration
The age of the European Renaissance, Reformation, and Exploration are significant because they lead
to the creation and spread of ideas which further advanced people s knowledge and understanding of
the world. In the slideshow, it stated that a Renaissance man was someone who excelled in more than
one thing. For example, Leonardo was a painter, sculptor, inventor, and he studied anatomy. His
creations and techniques later spread across the world, advancing art and science. The Renaissance
caused people to ask questions. This inspired the beginning of the Reformation. The World History
textbook said that the Church believed that the Earth was the center of the universe for 1,400 years.
Copernicus and Galileo stated that the sun is actually the

Essay on Social Organized Crime Perspective
Social Organized Crime Perspective
In some communities organized crime is as much of a social institution as other legitimate functions.
Often, the impact of organized crime can be hidden and not readily apparent to community members.
In other cases the community may come to accept the organized criminal group for the benefits they
provide. Understanding how organized crime meshes into the social fabric of a community is
important to understanding how to fight against it. Just as important to understanding the social
implications is understanding theories as to why individuals become involved in criminal activities
and how criminal organizations function.
Social Institution as it Relates to Organized Crime
The first thing that must ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Organized crime group s further entrench themselves into the community by establishing legitimate
business interests. These legitimate enterprises provide the organized crime group an opportunity to
mask their true operations and offer covert means to launder money or hide illegal activities from
detection. The criminal group can become imbedded within the community and provide further
opportunities. Organized criminal groups can generate additional business for legitimate community
institutions, jobs, income, and services. This can become so valuable to a community that the citizens
actually accept the criminal organization and look the other way. A major reason organized crime is so
successful within communities are the corrupt ties these groups form with political and social leaders
often as a result of bribery or other favors. Organized criminal organizations become part of the social
fabric of a community. Many individuals who consume illegal services provided by these groups do
not view themselves as criminals, yet they directly support the group s criminal activities (Lyman
amp; Potter, 2007). Understanding how organized crime becomes part of a community s social
structure is valuable, but an examination of theories of organized crime is important to provide a
deeper understanding.
Applicable Theories
There are two parts to understanding the reasons for the emergence of organized crime. First it is
important to understand the structure and

Abstract
This experiment tests how Armadillidium vulgare (wood lice) use their subcutaneous touch,
thermoreceptors and chemoreceptors on their antennae and limbs to sense any airborne or surface
chemicals. In this experiment, ten wood lice were placed in a choice chamber which has two
chambers; each chamber contained one piece of circular paper to cover the circumference of the
chamber. Each paper consisted of one of two different variants of NaCl water, the left side contained
0.9% and the right side contained 10%. The goal of this experiment was to test which solution

An alternative hypothesis was them formed which was that the woodlouse would prefer to migrate to
the 0.9% NaCl solution rather than the 10% solution. This was stated because the woodlouse live in a
moist environment thus meaning the water is fresh water rather than containing much salt. After the
results were calculated, the null hypothesis was rejected because the woodlouse favored the solution
with the least amount of salt (NaCl) which was the 0.9% side. This proved that the woodlouse
preferred a more fresh water environment. A question was then raised as to why some of the
woodlouse still decided to travel to the 10% NaCl water? This experiment could have been more
improved if the choice chamber contained the woodlouse s natural habitat which would to be to insert
grass and dirt into the choice chamber. This would have improved the experiment because it allows
the woodlouse to recognize a familiar environment rather than just travelling to a piece of paper with
different concentration of NaCl water on

Tuckman s Stages
The five stages of team development were first introduced by Bruce Wayne Tuckman in 1965. His
research into the way teams function and coordinate provided reoccurring trends towards very specific
points in the life of a team, which became the premises of each of the first four Tuckman s Stages. The
fifth stage was co created by Mary Ann Jensen over a decade later. The five stages discussed in this
essay are as follows: Forming, Storming, Norming, Performing, and Adjourning.
The Forming stage begins when the team first meets with one another. This often corresponds to the
members greeting one another and introductions; Gina Abudi, president of Abudi Consulting Group

The Hockey Of The Nhl
Women in the NHL There is this sport that you skate around on ice and try to get points by hitting a
puck into the other team s goal with a stick. It s one of the most popular sports in the world. The
profession team is called the National Hockey League (NHL), where there are over 25 teams in the
league. This sport is really rough and competitive, it s mostly a men s sport. If women were to play in
the NHL they would be a huge role model. They have women hockey leagues, but they don t have any
professional team other than the Olympics team. Women today are achieving so many things that will

As a sport industry women are just beginning, and that means we will be seeing more women entering
the sport field. Jen Welter, is now the first female coach in NFL history, she will be the coach of the

appearance, but it s a real struggle. These women are helping shape the game by being coaches, but
what about them playing. Especially with hockey, since it s a fast paced game, with a lot of
roughhousing and really big guys. For women to enter the NHL they are going to have to be ready for
a challenge. It would make us have a different outlook on the way the game is played. There have
been a few females to play in professional hockey, just not in a full season with an NHL team. Women
are becoming a big part of the sport industry. We see women being fans, coaches, executives, etc. The
advancement of women often stop just below the general management level. The closest someone has

I Stand Here Ironing Essay
amp;quot;I Stand Here Ironing amp;quot;, by Tillie Olsen is a short story portraying the life and regret
of a young mother struggling to raise her oldest daughter. The mother daughter relationship is the
major part of the story and the attitude of the mother toward her daughter, Emily, and the actual
character of the mother are two very important elements. The character of the mother can be said to be
strong and persevering, and along with her age and experience came her wisdom. At first her attitude
toward her daughter seemed more of resigned and regretful, but as Emily grew up and became a

thoughts, the mother illustrates the relationship that evolved with her daughter. Secondly, Emily, as a

toward her daughter changed as well. When Emily grew out of her awkward stage, the mother realized
what a beautiful and capable young women she had grown to become. The mother can clearly see this,

A Summary Of Unconventional T Cells
A team of researchers from has found the possible key to create a vaccine for tuberculosis. In a
partnership with Public Health England, the researchers discovered a way to trigger an immune
response from unconventional T cells.
Traditional T cells are reactive with peptide complexes and major histocompatibility complex
proteins. Meanwhile, unconventional T cells are reactive with lipids, small molecule metabolites, and
specially modified peptides. Unconventional T cells include CD1 restricted T cells, MR1 restricted
mucosal associated invariant T cells, MHC class Ib reactive T cells, and γδ T cells. Unconventional T
cells are currently under research to determine their therapeutic use.

How Tuberculosis Drugs Work
Tuberculosis is a major global health crisis with at least 10.4 million cases worldwide reported in
2016. An estimated 1.7 million of deaths is associated with the disease. It is also the leading infection
that kills people infected with HIV, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The drugs used to treat infections caused by Mycobacteria are called antimycobacterials. Isoniazid is
included in the first line of broad spectrum drugs used to treat tuberculosis. Isoniazid works by
preventing the synthesis of mycolic acids of the bacteria. However, resistance can develop quickly if
used alone. Other antimycobacterials included in the first broad spectrum drugs are as follows:
Rifampin is designed to inhibit the bacterial RNA polymerase, preventing it to form necessary
proteins.
Ethambutol works by disrupting the bacterial cell wall to increase permeability, allowing substances to
pass through it.
Pyrazinamide converts an enzyme to disrupt the cell membrane and disables the energy production of
the bacteria.
Streptomycin is an antibiotic that stops the growth of bacteria.
In case the strain of the tuberculosis bacteria is resistant to the first line

Famine Affluence And Morality
In Famine, Affluence and Morality, Peter Singer emphasizes the potential revisionary implications of
accepting utilitarianism as a guide for conduct. The moral philosophy Singer conveys in this text are
most closely related and comparable to the ideas of nineteenth century English philosopher, John
Stuart Mill as Singers approach is utilitarian rather than deontological. Despite their similarities, the
ideas of Singer and J.S Mill contain many discrepancies, especially with regard to whether they lean
towards act utilitarianism or rule utilitarianism. Although Singer and Mill both adhere to a
consequentialist theory as their moral philosophy, Singer upholds a more socialistic view and focuses
on maximizing the happiness of a community ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From there, he further adds a weaker version of the second principle as he subsites something of
roughly equal moral importance for something of moral significance (506). He provides an example
for this weaker principle, which is as follows: if one is in a position to save a child drowning in a
pond, one should do so even though one might get their clothes muddy as that is not a morally
significant cost and the child s death would be an extremely morally bad state of affairs (506). There is
potentially a third premise, which is that we can not only prevent, but alleviate this poverty induced
suffering, without sacrificing something of comparable moral importance. Following the premises,
Singer presents his conclusion, which is that we ought to contribute as much as we can to the
eradication of poverty, until doing so harms us more than it benefits them. In other words, we should
give to the extent that if we were to give more, we would cause ourselves as much suffering as we are
preventing from someone else.
As mentioned, while Singer s moral philosophy is most closely related to utilitarianism, there are
differences between his theory and Mill s. Unlike Singer, whose assertion although not entirely, likely
holds better under Benthamite act utilitarianism, Mill s theory is instead linked to rule utilitarianism.

A Comparison of Christian and Islamic Architecture in Spain
By the 6th century a Germanic tribe called the Visigoths, converts to Arian Christianity, had
established themselves as the aristocratic elite. The Christians built many monumental basilica plan
churches. The Santa Maria de Quintanilla de las Vinas, Burgos, Spain and San Juan de Banos de
Cerrato are two such churches that still remain today. In the beginning of the 8th century Islamic
Muslims conquered Spain and ended Visigothic rule. They constructed militaristic and religious
architecture including castles, watchtowers, rock castes, the Great Mosque, and the Red Palace. The
remaining Christians adopted some of the Islamic styles and soon built upon a new style that ended up

The Moors also built atalayas, or watchtowers and rock castles that served as part of the defense
system for the castle. The watchtowers were used as communication devices for castles that were great
distances apart. The watchtowers would signal the castle in case of an enemy attack by using smoke
and mirrors. They built rock castles, or small defense castles high on rocks, using the natural terrain to
the maximum effect. Since the rock castles were small they did not house many soldiers.
Another important Islamic site is situated in Cordoba, southern Spain, along the banks of Guadalquivir
river (the Great River). Cordoba served as the capital of the Caliphate of Cordoba. Cordoba houses the
famous Great Mosque or Gran Mezquita, the largest mosque in the Western World. The interior of the
mosque consisted of a mirhab, a niche that separates the qibla wall from the others. The mirhab was
intentionally positioned facing Mecca for the faithful who prayed in that direction.
The mosque can be identified by its elaborate squinch supported domes. The Great Mosque of
Cordoba is one of the finest surviving examples of Umayyad architecture in Spain. The mosque has
marble capitals and columns in the hypostyle prayer hall. A person enters the hall through an open
courtyard called a sahn. Its famous horseshoe arches have an alternated pattern of pale stone and red

Plato s Symposium, By Plato
In the book, Plato s Symposium, by Plato, who was a philosopher in Greece, he illustrates the dialectic
discussion at a party at Agathon s to celebrate his triumph of his first tragedy. In the Symposium; the
guests Phaedrus, an Athenian aristocrat; Pausanias, the legal expert; Eryximachus, a physician;
Aristophanes, eminent comic playwright; Agathon ,a tragic poet and host of the banquet; Socrates,
eminent philosopher and Plato s teacher; and Alcibiades, a prominent Athenian statesman, orator and
general; discuss their own versions and viewpoints to praise the god of love. First, we have Phaedrus,
who starts to say that love is the most ancient of the gods and should be praiseworthy, next we have
Eryximachus who states that love affects everything in the universe and that it should be protected,
next we have Aristophanes, who states that the reason why love is on earth is because god has split
humanity in half and that man should fear the gods and should embrace love to feel whole again, and
last we have Socrates who suggests what Diotima explains that love is in the middle of two things or
objects and has both characteristics. Phaedrus starts off the conversation of love stating how the god
Love doesn t get much attention in songs and that he should be praiseworthy because he has helped
men to gain honor and blessedness. This begins the symposium and functions as a way to tell the
reader what the topic would be about and why the guests in the party should discuss it.

In the sectioned of the pamphlet entitled Superiority of mixed races , Brazil was believed to be a
country where the people were miscegenated, to further support the idea of mixing in the United
States. However, the attitudes of race mixing in both countries were significantly different. Brazil has
always been a black and mixed blood populated society, whereas the United States had always been
white blood dominated compared to its black population. This paper will compare the differences of
race mixing in the United States and Brazil after the American Civil War.
First and foremost, it is important to differentiate the perception of black and white race mixing in
both the United States and Brazil. In the United States, the offspring produced between blacks and
whites are considered black. However, the status of a child produced by a white mother is typically
reflected by the status of the mother. Degler revealed that, From this perspective, the most feared
combination in unions between blacks and whites was the one in which the white women married a
black men . This is because during slavery, when a slave owner would impregnate his female slaves,
the children of the slave would also become a slave, but if the mother is white, it is very unlikely that
the child would become a slave. Consequently in Brazil, due to larger acceptance range of race
mixing, the descendants of an African and European relation

Quotes About Joe Louis
Joe Louis was a Black American professional boxer who helped bring together White and Black
Americans during the Great Depression. White and Black Americans were segregated during that time
which resulted in hostility and hatred toward the other race. Rumours would be made about the other
race and a race could be thought of as superior to another. Joe Louis gained respect by many of
different races for winning the heavyweight world championship in 1937, and continuing to hold it

In the South for Black Americans, Joe Louis served as a way of fighting for equality. Joe Louis gave
the Southern Blacks hope and confidence through the Great Depression as well as life. The reason it
gave many Black Americans confidence was because he let the world know that a Black was just as
good, if not better, than a white. After Joe Louis became heavyweight champion of the world, this
made some Whites angry knowing that a Black man had bested one of their own. In I Know Why The
Caged Bird Sings on page 136, Maya portrays the fear in Southern Black Americans knowing Joe
Louis had won. It would take an hour or more before the people would leave the Store and head for
home. Those who lived too far had made arrangements to stay in town. It wouldn t do for a Black man
and his family to be caught on a lonely country road on a night when Joe Louis had proved that we
were the strongest people in the world. Maya knew the instant Joe Louis had won, that Whites were
angry and wanting revenge. Joe Louis s victory was a great deal for the segregated South, and not so

The Appalachian Trail Analysis
Bryson s main argument throughout the novel is that Americans yearn for the days of old, represented
through the Appalachian Trail, and one way he proves this is with his personal encounters on the
Appalachian Trail itself. For a trail as long and arduous as the Appalachian Trail, it would be assumed
that only serious and dedicated hikers would even consider hiking the trip. However, as Bryson
demonstrates, this is not the case. Often times, ordinary American citizens who may have never even
hiked before decide to hike the trail. For this, it is not necessary to look any further than the author and
his partner Katz. Neither of them is particularly fit and it Katz s case, well prepared mentally. Bryson
even admits this when he states that he ...was hopelessly out of shape... (Bryson 35) proving they were
not avid hikers. Throughout their hike, they also ran into a plethora of average citizens, and is one case
they ...found a Boy Scout troop... (Bryson 147) that been hiking the woods. One day, after running
into a crowded shelter, Bryson noted that it was spring break at nearby colleges and ...scores of young
people all had the idea to come hiking... (Bryson 99). In all these cases, none of the people hiking on
the trail are actually athletic avid hikers, rather they are standard average citizens. Why would average
citizens decide to hike the Appalachian Trail? Bryson believes that the reason for this is for people
wanting to experience the beauty and simplicity of being

The Problem Of Holding The Negro Down
The problem of holding the Negro down, therefore, is easily solved. When you control a man s
thinking you not have to worry about his actions. You do have stand here or go yonder. He will find
his proper place and will stay in it (Woodson p. 5). In the Miseducation of the Negro he focused in on
the problems of the education system for African Americans leading to the dire effects of plight of the
Negro. This timeless work is relevant and parallel today; he speaks on the lack of racial consciousness
and the self hatred through education that teaches him to despise himself/herself. For African
Americans and other peoples of color, hegemony has placed us as at subordinate class in a white
supremacist patriarchal society. Combining theories of political theorist, Antonio Gramsci, historian
Carter G. Woodson, sociologist W.E.B Du Bois, and social theorist Michael Foucault a theoretical and
practical coherence can show the relationship of knowledge and power. Critical Pedagogy links the
relationship of knowledge and power, in which knowledge is socially constructed and rooted in a
nexus of power relations (Darder, Baltodano, Torres p.63). Critical consciousness within critical
pedagogy has us consider as students and future educators the role of education and knowledge when
it comes oppression and decolonization. I, unknowingly like many others have in many ways have
been miseducated. I experienced a very traditional pedagogical experience, where the teacher was the

Samuel Clarke s status as a great english philosopher and theologian is one that has obtained great
achievement and dedication. Clarke has focused a significant amount of his life to both science and
religion. Science and religion have both been one of many water does not mix with oil scenarios since
the earliest beginnings and foundations of science. Clarke has studied in both fields and has obtained
physical evidence, as well as spiritual evidence to many testable theories and beliefs. Through Samuel

In order to will, one must have a judgment about what to do and the power to choose in accordance
with that judgment. This power to choose is provided by the will. The will is not to be identified with
the last judgment of the understanding nor is a volition caused by a judgment. Those, like Hobbes,
who thought so were guilty of basic philosophical errors. If they maintained that the content of the
evaluative proposition is either identical with the volition or causes it, then they were confusing the
moral motive with the physical efficient, the physical efficient being the element of the cause that
provides the active power. Because the moral motive is simply an abstract object, or an abstract
proposition, and abstract objects are causally inert, the moral motive cannot cause

The African American Education System
The education system has been around for many years. Although it hasn t always had the same
structure, the general idea of education was always to learn and gain more knowledge to better one s
life and future. While many of the whites were able to easily obtain an education, blacks, indians, and
others had it much harder. This actually contributed to the division of the races as well. The whites
believed they were mighty and powerful, while the minority races had to hide and fight for their
rights. Education was an empowering thing for many people, especially for those without a say.
During the Reconstruction in the New South, African Americans were still being attacked and so they
strike against them and created their own churches and schools.

Glossophobia Speech
In the United States alone, as much as 75% of the population struggles with the fear of public
speaking, also known as glossophobia. Glossophobia is the fear of public speaking, some cases more
extreme than others. Certain cases of glossophobia may be just a phobia, while other cases may just be
as simple as stage fright. Throughout my life, I have had to give speeches on topics from Justin Bieber
to the Jack Trice football stadium in Ames, and each minute is one I will never get back. Even though
speeches are something I hate doing, I feel as though I learn something new each time I give a speech.
The things I struggle with the most in giving speeches is the fear of being judged, the fear of failure,
and how nervous I get before and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The best way to prepare for a speech is to make notes, memorize certain parts, get the timing perfect
(SC4). Failure while giving a speech is something that without the proper preparation, could very
likely happen. Having small side notes written down while giving a speech are crucial to help move
along the process. Notes not only move along the speech, but they are used as a guide as to what do
say and talk about next. Memorization is one the biggest key components about a speech: without
memorization a speech will not come easy and someone could fail without it (SC3). Timing is another
one of the major key components of a speech (BE3). Along with memorization, without timing the
speech, it may not flow and could be confusing to the audience. The best way to practice timing is to
plan out your speech, focus on what needs to be memorized, and time it from there. Nerves are
something that everyone gets before giving a speech, but others know how to control their nerves
unlike myself. Nervous and worried, is exactly how I go into every speech I give, wishing I could be
confident and excited (BE1). The best way to not be nervous is to take deep breaths, practice, and to
accept the fear. Fighting nerves isn t easy; breathing, is the easiest way (SC2). Before a big speech,
when someone is nervous, their muscles will tighten, but taking deep breaths to get oxygen to your
brain will help relax the body.

Tender Is Night Character Analysis
The Tragic Downfall of Promising Psychiatrist Dick Diver
The work of F. Scott Fitzgerald The Tender is Night shows us how a character having strong qualities
such as education and career may collapse in search of entering into a new world which results in
hamartia or a fatal flaw. It is the protagonist young American Doctor Dick Diver s tragic downfall
which attracts many critics attention on the work who is an educated promising psychiatrist and
traveling man that shuttles between Vienna and Zurich in the pursuit of to be a good psychologist
maybe to be the greatest one that ever lived (Fitzgerald 147). It can be considered as an irony that as a
talented psychiatrist Dick Diver who has a published book A Psychology for Psychiatrists and has
ambitious desire in finding out ways for the mental illnesses Diver s himself ironically gets caught to a
kind of mental illness that causes his frustration. In this perspective, in the novel the protagonist Diver
s trauma is considered in a way as a good example for many psychiatrists who are in search of causes
and solutions for mental illnesses together with Nicole character in the novel. According to Bruccoli,
the novel is a new plot set in Europe about an American psychiatrist who is ruined by his marriage to a
wealthy mental patient (Bruccoli 330) while some critics consider the novel as breakdowns:
breakdowns in marriage, friendships, and individuals (Lucas 89). It has been argued that the title of
Fitzgerald s novel Tender Is the Night has taken it from the work of John Keats s Ode to A
Nightingale. According to William E. Doherty the novel Tender Is the Night also gets its essence from
Keat s work.
The title of the novel and the epigraph Fitzgerald offers illuminate the significance of night and
darkness in the story. An enquiry reveals a complicated and careful symbolic structure in Tender Is the
Night involving a contrast between the night and the day, darkness and light (6)
Although the novel is the last completed work of Fitzgerald one of the difficulties that the novel
presents is its ambiguity in understanding the chronological order of the work. While in the
masterpiece of Fitzgerald The Great Gatsby the protagonist Gatsby s downfall

Stories of People before Us
It was many years ago, long before your beloved parents or even their own. It was far past the time
when skyscrapers first began their grazing of the heavens, past even the taking advantage of devote
teachers. Further still, our story takes us. Much like many tales of this sort there is perhaps little truth
weaved in all that serve not as references for literal information but references for wisdom and
understanding. I do not profess that readers who study these tomes will come out any the wiser, nor is
it this tome s sole purpose. Some things in life do not require purpose nor plan, but moving forward.
Before our world, there was perhaps another. In it lived a single person, a woman perhaps, who ruled
over all the animals and plants. She, like most others, did not enjoy her solitude and decided to design
a people to accompany her. So thus, people came to be. Despite the people, she had no joy. Those she
had created were savage, greedy, and sinful. It displeased her. However, she was merciful and could
not bring herself to destroy them, so instead felt it necessary to guide them. To assist her she created a
new type of people, one who would embody all that she valued. These people would be rulers and
would rule over the other citizens. To form her new rulers she took four traits, agápē (unconditional
love), compassion, generosity, trustworthiness, and composed one whom she would entrust with her
people. Carefully she layered a combination of agápē trustworthiness

Health Care Financing And Economics
Health Care Financing and Economics Health care systems around the world are struggling with rising
costs and unequal quality of care and many solutions like error reduction, enforcing practice
guidelines and implementation of Electronic Medical Records were tried without much effect (Porter
Lee, 2013). The primary goal of any Country s health care system is to provide high quality and cost
effective care, which produces quality patient outcomes for all. The 2010 Washington Post Article
states that the treatment of Prostate Cancer with Provenge will incur a cost of $93,000 per patient to
extend life by four months (Stein, 2010). However, there is no guarantee about the quality of life that
will be available with this drug to the terminally ill patients. Provenge is a not a preventive medicine
but is therapeutic and is given after diagnosis of Prostate cancer is confirmed (Stein, 2010). Hence, the
ethical dilemma arises whether it is feasible to spend such a large amount to increase life expectancy
by four months of a patient who is already affected and terminally ill or whether that amount should
be spent on research to find a drug that will prevent prostate cancer and lead to cost savings in the
future. More finances should be available for researches that support preventive medicine, which will
help to cut down health care costs and the research

The widespread use of accessible technology, such as mobile devices and Internet, impacts massively
on people s lifestyles and work. For more and more people, digital technology opens the door not only

Taking a quality of life approach, the research questions that this paper aims to answer are: what are
eWorker s individual perceptions and closely held beliefs about their work arrangements? Is eWork a
good work arrangement as perceived by the workers themselves? The focus on individuals, rather than
on policies, institutions, organizations, companies, comes from the need to understand particularly
what these work arrangements mean for individual people and how they affect their lifestyles and
quality of life. This project will define quality of life as The degree to which a person enjoys the
important possibilities of his/her life (Raphael, et. al, 1998: 2) in three major life domains: being,
belonging and becoming (Renwick and Brown, 1996). Being refers to who one is and includes
Physical Being (health, hygiene, nutrition, exercice and general appearence); Psychological Being
(psychological health, feelings and evaluations about the self such as self esteem) and Spiritual Being
(one s personal values, standards of conduct and spiritual beliefs). Belonging is about the person s fit
with her environment and includes Physical Belonging (connections with the physical environments

Default Judgements Analysis
Respecting both human and cultural differences in a society is vital as a society can only wholly
prosper when respect is mutual among all parties. In order for respect to be mutual among everyone,
default judgements need to be fully brought to an end. It is important for the issue of default
judgements to be resolved as they negatively impact societies as a whole, whether that be a group of
people or even an individual person. As previously stated, default judgements create just one singular
story for an entire group of people. A person is more than just what appears at face value as there is
always more to one than a single label. As Adichie discussed in her previously mentioned speech, a
professor in the United States of America suggested ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The work of the likes of Anthony Bourdain and Iris Zaki have helped in overcoming the danger of a
single story in that they show true images of people in countries such as Iran, thus allowing people to
better understand them. If people develop a better understanding of Iranians, then there is a great
opportunity that any default judgements about them may be vanquished. In Bourdain s work, the
Iranian people are shown as overall friendly people, that enjoy conversing, listening to pop music, as
well as eating dishes such as chelow kebabs. It is also discussed in his work how Middle Eastern
countries, such as Iran, are all grouped into one by foreigners in that they are all oppressive to women.
It is stated in Bourdain s work that not all countries in the Middle East are oppressive to women in the
vein of how Saudi Arabia is. It is stated that unlike in Saudi Arabia, women are able to partake in
activities such as driving and voting in Iran. Through watching Bourdain s work, one may be able to
see Iranian people for who they truly are rather than what they are portrayed as in one s own default
judgement. As for Zaki s work, both Arab and Jewish women eat and converse at a hair salon named
Fifi s . Although both the Arab and Jewish women come from very different cultures, they develop an
understanding and respect for one another through their time at the salon. They accept each other for
who they are as they have a clear understanding of one another through the conversations that they
have had. Through these understandings of one another, the danger of a single story can be

Kayla s Strongest Argument Analysis
I will first go on to state each opponent s strongest argument and then I will go on to discuss who I
feel won the debate putting aside my personal beliefs on the topic. First I think Kayla s strongest
argument was that physician assisted suicide gives patients the opportunity to ease their mind. She
provided solid evidence by disclosing the touching stories of both her father and the 26 year old
patient she works with during summer in her local community. Both of the men testified that if they
had the choice between death and life hey choose death to ease the pain. This went against Adam s
argument that the current system in place already provides patients with pain management. This is an
example of an emotional appeals augment, which engages

Analysis Of The Narrator Of Zoloft Announces
You know when you feel the weight of sadness. The narrator of Zoloft announces. [Depression] a
serious medical condition that affects over twenty million Americans. While the cause is unknown,
depression may be related to a chemical imbalance between nerve cells and the brain. Each sentence
in this one minute episode is used in a careful way to suck the audience in to buy their depression
saving drug. Zoloft, a company that is advertising the sale of their pill that claims to help the
population feel happier and cope with their depression. It starts off with a simple sketch of a circle or a

of the fact that the circle sluggishly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the announcer says, You know when you feel the weight of sadness. He does not
specifically say how long and how many times it occurs. The broadness leaves it up in the air for
interpretation; therefore, a person who has experienced sadness for three seconds yesterday could self
diagnose themselves with depression. Since everyone has experienced sadness before, it immediately
relates to everyone watching while making it personal to them at the same time because he uses the
word you ten times in the span of a minute. It makes a large effort to relate to the largest amount of
people possible the commercial can attract a larger amount of potential buyers and convince doctors.
The advertisement even goes as far as to make the main character a featureless ball. Everything seems
extremely bland from the creation of the circle and a single blade of grass, which makes it open to
interpretation as well. The main character is a generic circle that is mostly associated with a human
head. It is raceless, genderless, and ageless; therefore, a person can look at the ball and compare it to
themselves because it is a bland as a stick figure majority have drawn in the first grade. The audience
has the ability to evaluate it any way they wish to make it more relatable to their specific situation.
The more a person feels a connection with something, the more likely he or she would

  • 2. The National Football League ( Nfl ) The National Football League(NFL) is running one of its own games on the public, and as one the most supported non profit organizations in American history. The NFL excels at tackling the American taxpayer. It should be of no surprise that with its religious like following, the NFL receives the same tax exempt status as a church, exempted under the IRS 501 (c)(6) code from paying federal taxes. The legislation puts the NFL as a non profit trade association which it has been under since 1942. This statement intends me to ask what Steve Almond asked in his book Against Football: One Fan s Reluctant Manifesto how did this happen (Almond pg.81)? Imagine driving through a city. The things you see around you are: average constructed schools, average constructed houses, bumpy roads, and very old structured buildings. Oh but wait, in the middle of the city you see a huge modern electrical sign on top of a huge modern structure saying The Coca Cola Arena . At this minute you may ask, how can a very average sized constructed town have one the most fascinating buildings in the world? This to me is very controversial and leads me to agree with Steve Almonds claim that the NFL is an ideal model of crony capitalism and a corporate oligarchy. let s try to answer the question why the heck the NFL is tax exempt. Business leagues, chambers of commerce, real estate boards, boards of trade professional football leagues; these are the five kinds of organizations that the IRS says can ... • 3. Steve Lawhead s Poem The Sun Goes Down On Summer Changing is Growing Throughout this poem, The Sun Goes Down on Summer by.Steve Lawhead, a student is worried about going back to school after summer break. He shows a significant concern for his grades, behavior, academic achievements and societal interactions, and is trying to come to terms with his impending doom he faces. Time and again in the poem, the author expresses their worries about fitting in, being himself and making friends. By the time the poem ends the author seems to have accepted that he should just be himself and take on the new year, 41 42 When the doors open on Monday morning, I ll have a fresh start, a fresh opportunity to find myself. , so the universal theme being taught by the author is being more confident in ourselves. ... This infers that this line is designed to convey to the reader that the author is self conscious about who they are and cares a lot about fitting into society, lacking self confidence in himself. Just after expressing these concerns, he talks about not making the first football practice, 23 Football practice started last week. It started without me.; 24 I had to make a choice and football lost. , insinuating that football was a cliche he had previously relied on for identity and fitting in. However, he claims to have quit the team because it s one of those schools things that saps your freedom so perhaps the author felt like football was just him forcing his personality into a group and keeping him from being ... • 4. Zinn Columbus Summary In scholarly documents, authors have a tendency toward certain biases scratching the surface of certain events while going in depth to others. Zinn s application to Samuel Eliot Morison s book regarding Columbus is clear evidence of neglect on aspects of history (i.e. genocide of Native Americans). Morison s emphasis [on] the heroism of Columbus and his successors as navigators and discoverers, and de emphasis [on] their genocide, is not a technical necessity but an ideological choice (Zinn Ch. 1). In Morison s belief, Columbus was a hero worth praising, even though he enacted cruel acts of violence. He takes note of Columbus s misgivings, yet chooses to avoid the topic overall; Morison, under his ideological beliefs, decided to paint a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is therefore more deadly (Zinn Ch. 1). The danger of fallacies in scholarly works are much more detrimental to people s conception of history, science, etc. than that of fallacies of politicians. One usually accepts the textbook discussions of a scholar, while acts more objectively to political rhetoric because of long standing predispositions. Thus, people often hold trust to scholarly works, but insodoing, they allow influence that might just be unaligned with reality. With all of the monstrosities that have occurred, one can only hope that our future may be found in the past s fugitive moments of compassion rather than in its solid centuries of warfare (Zinn Ch. 1). Because it is seemingly impossible to find peace in the world, many fear that the future will be marred with violence and destruction following the example that has already occurred. Nevertheless, Zinn hopes that the future will be better than the past; he hopes that they, rather than follow genocidal acts that have occurred in the past, will follow the loving and compassionate acts that ... European Renaissance Reformation And Exploration The age of the European Renaissance, Reformation, and Exploration are significant because they lead to the creation and spread of ideas which further advanced people s knowledge and understanding of the world. In the slideshow, it stated that a Renaissance man was someone who excelled in more than one thing. For example, Leonardo was a painter, sculptor, inventor, and he studied anatomy. His creations and techniques later spread across the world, advancing art and science. The Renaissance caused people to ask questions. This inspired the beginning of the Reformation. Often, the impact of organized crime can be hidden and not readily apparent to community members. In other cases the community may come to accept the organized criminal group for the benefits they provide. Understanding how organized crime meshes into the social fabric of a community is important to understanding how to fight against it. Just as important to understanding the social implications is understanding theories as to why individuals become involved in criminal activities and how criminal organizations function. Organized crime group s further entrench themselves into the community by establishing legitimate business interests. These legitimate enterprises provide the organized crime group an opportunity to mask their true operations and offer covert means to launder money or hide illegal activities from detection. The criminal group can become imbedded within the community and provide further opportunities. Organized criminal groups can generate additional business for legitimate community institutions, jobs, income, and services. This can become so valuable to a community that the citizens actually accept the criminal organization and look the other way. A major reason organized crime is so successful within communities are the corrupt ties these groups form with political and social leaders often as a result of bribery or other favors. Organized criminal organizations become part of the social fabric of a community. Many individuals who consume illegal services provided by these groups do not view themselves as criminals, yet they directly support the group s criminal activities (Lyman amp; Potter, 2007). Understanding how organized crime becomes part of a community s social structure is valuable, but an examination of theories of organized crime is important to provide a deeper understanding. Woodlouse Water Preference Water preference of Armadillidium Vulgare (woodlouse) Charlie Cortina Biology 1407, Miller, 7:40 9:40 7/28/2015 Sarah hug, Asim Ali, Edram Mubasher Abstract This experiment tests how Armadillidium vulgare (wood lice) use their subcutaneous touch, thermoreceptors and chemoreceptors on their antennae and limbs to sense any airborne or surface chemicals. In this experiment, ten wood lice were placed in a choice chamber which has two chambers; each chamber contained one piece of circular paper to cover the circumference of the chamber. An alternative hypothesis was them formed which was that the woodlouse would prefer to migrate to the 0.9% NaCl solution rather than the 10% solution. After the results were calculated, the null hypothesis was rejected because the woodlouse favored the solution with the least amount of salt (NaCl) which was the 0.9% side. This proved that the woodlouse preferred a more fresh water environment. A question was then raised as to why some of the woodlouse still decided to travel to the 10% NaCl water? This experiment could have been more improved if the choice chamber contained the woodlouse s natural habitat which would to be to insert grass and dirt into the choice chamber. This would have improved the experiment because it allows the woodlouse to recognize a familiar environment rather than just travelling to a piece of paper with different concentration of NaCl water on ... The fifth stage was co created by Mary Ann Jensen over a decade later. The five stages discussed in this essay are as follows: Forming, Storming, Norming, Performing, and Adjourning. In a partnership with Public Health England, the researchers discovered a way to trigger an immune response from unconventional T cells. Traditional T cells are reactive with peptide complexes and major histocompatibility complex proteins. Meanwhile, unconventional T cells are reactive with lipids, small molecule metabolites, and specially modified peptides. Unconventional T cells include CD1 restricted T cells, MR1 restricted mucosal associated invariant T cells, MHC class Ib reactive T cells, and γδ T cells. The study findings could be proved useful for the development of future methods of prevention and treatment of tuberculosis. How Tuberculosis Drugs Work Tuberculosis is a major global health crisis with at least 10.4 million cases worldwide reported in 2016. An estimated 1.7 million of deaths is associated with the disease. It is also the leading infection that kills people infected with HIV, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The drugs used to treat infections caused by Mycobacteria are called antimycobacterials. Isoniazid is included in the first line of broad spectrum drugs used to treat tuberculosis. Isoniazid works by preventing the synthesis of mycolic acids of the bacteria. However, resistance can develop quickly if used alone. Other antimycobacterials included in the first broad spectrum drugs are as follows: Rifampin is designed to inhibit the bacterial RNA polymerase, preventing it to form necessary proteins. Ethambutol works by disrupting the bacterial cell wall to increase permeability, allowing substances to pass through it. Pyrazinamide converts an enzyme to disrupt the cell membrane and disables the energy production of the bacteria. Streptomycin is an antibiotic that stops the growth of bacteria. • 17. Famine Affluence And Morality In Famine, Affluence and Morality, Peter Singer emphasizes the potential revisionary implications of accepting utilitarianism as a guide for conduct. The moral philosophy Singer conveys in this text are most closely related and comparable to the ideas of nineteenth century English philosopher, John Stuart Mill as Singers approach is utilitarian rather than deontological. Despite their similarities, the ideas of Singer and J.S Mill contain many discrepancies, especially with regard to whether they lean towards act utilitarianism or rule utilitarianism. Although Singer and Mill both adhere to a consequentialist theory as their moral philosophy, Singer upholds a more socialistic view and focuses on maximizing the happiness of a community ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From there, he further adds a weaker version of the second principle as he subsites something of roughly equal moral importance for something of moral significance (506). He provides an example for this weaker principle, which is as follows: if one is in a position to save a child drowning in a pond, one should do so even though one might get their clothes muddy as that is not a morally significant cost and the child s death would be an extremely morally bad state of affairs (506). There is potentially a third premise, which is that we can not only prevent, but alleviate this poverty induced suffering, without sacrificing something of comparable moral importance. Following the premises, Singer presents his conclusion, which is that we ought to contribute as much as we can to the eradication of poverty, until doing so harms us more than it benefits them. In other words, we should give to the extent that if we were to give more, we would cause ourselves as much suffering as we are preventing from someone else. As mentioned, while Singer s moral philosophy is most closely related to utilitarianism, there are differences between his theory and Mill s. Unlike Singer, whose assertion although not entirely, likely holds better under Benthamite act utilitarianism, Mill s theory is instead linked to rule utilitarianism. Singer ... A Comparison of Christian and Islamic Architecture in Spain By the 6th century a Germanic tribe called the Visigoths, converts to Arian Christianity, had established themselves as the aristocratic elite. The Christians built many monumental basilica plan churches. The Santa Maria de Quintanilla de las Vinas, Burgos, Spain and San Juan de Banos de Cerrato are two such churches that still remain today. In the beginning of the 8th century Islamic Muslims conquered Spain and ended Visigothic rule. The Moors also built atalayas, or watchtowers and rock castles that served as part of the defense system for the castle. The watchtowers were used as communication devices for castles that were great distances apart. The watchtowers would signal the castle in case of an enemy attack by using smoke and mirrors. They built rock castles, or small defense castles high on rocks, using the natural terrain to the maximum effect. Since the rock castles were small they did not house many soldiers. Another important Islamic site is situated in Cordoba, southern Spain, along the banks of Guadalquivir river (the Great River). Cordoba served as the capital of the Caliphate of Cordoba. In the Symposium; the guests Phaedrus, an Athenian aristocrat; Pausanias, the legal expert; Eryximachus, a physician; Aristophanes, eminent comic playwright; Agathon ,a tragic poet and host of the banquet; Socrates, eminent philosopher and Plato s teacher; and Alcibiades, a prominent Athenian statesman, orator and general; discuss their own versions and viewpoints to praise the god of love. First, we have Phaedrus, who starts to say that love is the most ancient of the gods and should be praiseworthy, next we have Eryximachus who states that love affects everything in the universe and that it should be protected, next we have Aristophanes, who states that the reason why love is on earth is because god has split humanity in half and that man should fear the gods and should embrace love to feel whole again, and last we have Socrates who suggests what Diotima explains that love is in the middle of two things or objects and has both characteristics. Phaedrus starts off the conversation of love stating how the god Love doesn t get much attention in songs and that he should be praiseworthy because he has helped men to gain honor and blessedness. First and foremost, it is important to differentiate the perception of black and white race mixing in both the United States and Brazil. In the United States, the offspring produced between blacks and whites are considered black. However, the status of a child produced by a white mother is typically reflected by the status of the mother. Degler revealed that, From this perspective, the most feared combination in unions between blacks and whites was the one in which the white women married a black men . This is because during slavery, when a slave owner would impregnate his female slaves, the children of the slave would also become a slave, but if the mother is white, it is very unlikely that the child would become a slave. The reason it gave many Black Americans confidence was because he let the world know that a Black was just as good, if not better, than a white. After Joe Louis became heavyweight champion of the world, this made some Whites angry knowing that a Black man had bested one of their own. In I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings on page 136, Maya portrays the fear in Southern Black Americans knowing Joe Louis had won. The Appalachian Trail Analysis Bryson s main argument throughout the novel is that Americans yearn for the days of old, represented through the Appalachian Trail, and one way he proves this is with his personal encounters on the Appalachian Trail itself. For a trail as long and arduous as the Appalachian Trail, it would be assumed that only serious and dedicated hikers would even consider hiking the trip. However, as Bryson demonstrates, this is not the case. Often times, ordinary American citizens who may have never even hiked before decide to hike the trail. For this, it is not necessary to look any further than the author and his partner Katz. Neither of them is particularly fit and it Katz s case, well prepared mentally. In the Miseducation of the Negro he focused in on the problems of the education system for African Americans leading to the dire effects of plight of the Negro. This timeless work is relevant and parallel today; he speaks on the lack of racial consciousness and the self hatred through education that teaches him to despise himself/herself.
