The Clash Of Civilizations By Samuel Huntington Essay
Samuel Huntington s controversial article The Clash of Civilizations? was first published in
Foreign Affairs in 1993 and was subsequently turned into a book in 1996 titled The Clash of
Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order. As this paper will show Huntington s work can be
seen as a product of the post Cold Warcontext it was written in. Huntington s article takes a new
perspective on the new world order and outlines a different way a thinking about how future
world conflicts will unfold. Since the initial journal article was published in 1993 there has been a
great deal of response from academics and also from Huntington himself. A majority of the
responses come in the form of critiques, with the authors offering their own insight into how the
post Cold War World will operate. Although the validity of Huntington s arguments have been
questioned, it did create a great deal of controversy in the academic world. As Huntington
explained in the preface of his 1996 book, the original article published in Foreign Affairs created
more discussion in three years than any other article published in the journal since the 1940s.
Huntington s initial article argued that in the post Cold War era the fundamental source of conflict
would not be ideological or economic, but cultural. He continues by arguing that nation states will
continue to be the most powerful actors in global affairs, but the conflicts of global politics that are
to occur in the future will happen between

Diversity In G. B. F.
G.B.F. is a movie that explores the life of a gay high school student but fails drastically to create
a narrative based on the real lives of LGBT persons and the result is riddled with inaccuracies,
stereotypes, and a lack of diversity. G.B.F. is about Tanner, a closeted high school teenager who
lives in a town with no openly gay people. However, with the vote for prom queen coming up, the
three contenders, Fawcett, Shley, and Caprice all want a Gay Best Friend to give them that edge
over their competition. They set out on a manhunt to find their own real life gay and accidentally
out Tanner to the whole school. Now, North Gate High has its first openly gay student. Tanner
skyrockets to popularity among the majority of his classmates... Show more content on

Topher is introduced to the audience as Shley s boyfriend. However, once Topher finally gets
some alone time with Tanner, he sexually assaults him by forcing Tanner to make out with him.
When Tanner tries to elicit an explanation from Topher over his uncharacteristic behavior, Topher
says that he s experimenting and needs to get it out of his system (G.B.F. 2013). He then
proceeds to make out with Tanner, even touching his crotch and legs in the process. Tanner has
the physically remove himself from the car in order to get Topher to stop. Later in the movie,
Topher corners Brent in the supply closet and forces himself on Brent. Similarly, Topher does not
care the Brent has never expressed a sexual interest in him, he simply forces himself onto the
only two gay men he knows so that he can fulfill some sort of fantasy or urge he has. Topher is
obviously not straight, however, it is unclear whether he is gay, bisexual, fluid, or pansexual. Either
way, Topher is a member of the LGBTcommunity and his actions portray them in a horrible light.
Topher sexually assaults two men in this movie without their consent, making it seem like closeted
members of the LGBT community are only horny and violent. For a movie that is supposed to
display the LGBT community is a positive light, G.B.F. does a horrible job portraying Topher as a
questioning teenager trying to figure out his sexuality. The producers could have used Topher to
show the side of the LGBT community that is in the process of questioning their sexuality and
experimenting, but they instead choose to only show Topher as a horny and violent

Winning The Lottery
If I won the lottery! Although the chances are low only 1 in 292.2 million we all have dreams ,
and winning the lottery is certainly mine. I ve always thought winning the lottery would be
fantastic since I was even younger than I am now. I ve always asking myself what you I do will all
that money.
I sure everyone has this thought of winning it big but few even get to experience it. When the lottery
get as high as it is now it becomes the talk of my family. We all have different ideas and plans of
what we would do with 1.3 billion dollars. Almost every time I talk about winning the lottery my
idea of what I would do changes. As I get older and wiser my ideas change, but I think i got it right
this time. I personally wouldn t want anyone to know

Essay on Jane Austin and Pride Prejudice
Jane Austin is currently known today as one of the women who first developed the ideas related
to feminism (Abrams). Jane s work became prevalent in English literature during time of
transition from neo classicism to romanticism (Abrams). She was influenced by a number of other
literary figures of her time, and by the society in which she lived. Her writing sometimes reflected
earlier writers, whom she sometimes mocked because they always portrayed a perfect world in
their writing and the world was not that way. Her writing style was elegant and satirical. In her
novels, Jane Austendescribed people who were the sorts of people she knew. Many of the character
s and events in her stories were real events that were occurring in her life... Show more content on

The possibility of scorn was what influenced Austen s decision to publish anonymously
(Watkins). It was her favorite brother was who revealed her identity later (Watkins). The Austin
family was accepted socially by wealthier families but was not as wealthy as these families. This
made it hard for their daughters to attract suitors because there was not anything to be gained by
the suitor s family. Jane received a marriage proposal but turned it down because she did not
want to sacrifice her life as an author to juggle being a wife, mother and gentry hostess
(Abrams). Jane Austin was one of the first women in the public eye to say that women did not
have to conform to norms that were set by society (Johnson). Jane made it very clear in her
writing that it was unfair for women to marry for class; she mocked this idea in her writings
(Bloom; Johnson). After visiting her brother Edward and his wife Elizabeth, in 1796 Jane began
writing pride and prejudice. Austen wrote Pride Prejudice as a reflection of the times she lived in,
the relationship between men and women and the rules of courting (Bloom). It could even be
said that the novels could be related to loneliness that she experienced because she never married
and maybe it was her living out her fantasies through her novels (Bloom). Pride and Prejudice is a
record of upper and middle class English society in a time of

Increasing the Bioavailability of Eye Drops Essay
Most ocular diseases are treated with topical application of eye drops. After instillation of an eye
drop, typically less than 5% of the applied drug penetrates the cornea and reaches intraocular
tissues, while a major fraction of the instilled dose is absorbed and enters the systemic circulation.
As ocular efficiency of topically applied drugsis influenced by the corneal contact time, most
common method of improving ocular availability of drugs is to increase pre corneal residence
time by using vesicular system and hydrogel. One such approach to improve bioavailability of
drug is the use of in situ gelling system, which gets converted from sol to gel as a result of change
in pH. By using Carbopol940 a pH sensitive gelling agent, an... Show more content on

A significant challenge to the formulator is to bypass the protective barriers of the eye without
causing permanent tissue damage.
Conventional ophthalmic formulations like solution, suspension, and ointment have many
disadvantages which result in poor bioavailability of drug in the ocular cavity. The specific aim
of designing a therapeutic system is to achieve an optimal concentration of a drug at the active
site for the appropriate duration [3]. The various approaches that have been attempted to increase
the bioavailability and the duration of the therapeutic action of ocular drugs can be divided into
two categories. The first one is based on the use of sustained drug delivery systems such as
vesicles and particulates, which provide the controlled and continuous delivery of ophthalmic
drugs. The second involves maximizing corneal drug absorption and minimizing pre corneal drug
loss which can be achieved by amphiphilic vesicles [4].
Niosomes are non ionic surfactant vesicles obtained by hydration of synthetic nonionic surfactants,
with or without incorporation of cholesterol or other lipids. They are vesicular systems similar to
liposomes that can be used as carriers of amphiphilic and lipophilic drugs [5]. Niosomes are
promising vehicle for drug delivery and being non ionic; they are less toxic and improve the
therapeutic index of drug by restricting their action to target

Close Reading Analysis Essay
Close Reading Analysis There could not be a be a more fitting quote in Things Fall Apart by
Chinua Achebe that describes the overall setting of the book than the quote above. While
someone who reads Things Fall Apart may interpret the title as a reflection of Okonkwo s
downfall from the colonist s intrusion on his village and clan; the title also is a mirror of the
effects the colonists had on the falling apart of traditions and customs of the African people of
Okonkwo s village not just Okonkwo himself. In comparison throughout several other works of
African literature a commonality among readings can be seen that the inclusion of colonists into
different African tribes led to the loss of several tribal identities. The loss of different tribal

rhetorical question asked by Obierika as he follows up the question with How can he when he

begin to capacitate the understanding of his and Okonkwo s people without even the basic
understanding of their language. Furthermore, Obierika expresses his frustrations with the
colonists view of his tribe s customs as he says But he (the white man) says that are customs are

Obierika relates that the colonists have taken a disposition to the customs of his tribe without even
beginning to first understand what their customs truly are and more importantly Obierika is more

History of TPM
TPM, a unique Japanese system of managerial expertise, was created in 1971, based on the PM
(preventive maintenance or productive maintenance) concept introduced from the United States in
the 1950s through the 1960s. Subsequently, in the 1970s through the 1980s, TPM gradually
developed as its remarkable achievements because recognized. TPM now permeates entire
company structures, every line of business, and all parts of the world; this is evidenced by a sharp
increase in the number of business establishments receiving PM awards based on TPM, the shift
from production sector TPM to company wide TPM, and the growing number of countries in which
TPM is practiced.

Robots Guided through Computer Vision
1.1 Basic introduction
Human life is of prime importance. It is the most beautiful and precious gift of God. Sometimes
situations occur where we would have no choice and we have to put someone s life in danger to
save many other lives. At that time we would surely think that it would be better if there is some
kind of replacement for human body which can perform human tasks. Furthermore, there are
millions of physically challenged people who can t perform day to day simple tasks which a
normal man can easily perform.
The answer and solution to all these problems is ROBOT. Human life is becoming more advanced
and safer day by day. Human efforts are replaced with machines which can perform work
accurately, precisely and safely. The idea of a robot to provide assistance either in the home, office
or in more hostile environments (e.g. bomb disposal or nuclear reactors) has existed for many
years and such systems are available today. Unfortunately, they are typically expensive and by no
means ubiquitous in the way that 1950sand 60s science fiction would have had us believe. The
major limitations to including robots in homes and offices are the infrastructure changes they
require.
Computer vision however means that robots can be monitored from just a few inexpensive cameras
and the recent availability of wireless network solutions (IEEE 802.11 and Bluetooth in particular)
has decimated the infrastructure they demand. The final step to the package is how humans are to
interact

Effective Use Of Birth Control In The United States
Birth control is a method that helps prevent pregnancies from happening. There are many methods
of it. It has been around for probably more than 1000 years and has been a human concern. Birth
control today can be permanent and can also be used with each time you have intercourse. Some
effectiveness of birth controlcan be close to one hundred percent, but if you don t get it in time or
use it how it s supposed to be used then it will not be effective.
The most common type of method is the male condom and they are used worldwide. They are
very inexpensive and are very easy to use. Condoms also doesn t have any side effects unless you

Margaret Sanger was the one who got birth control sort of a big thing in the United States in the
1900 s. She and some other women opened clinics to help women understand the information
and devices of birth control. She would be thrown in jail for trying to get women to understand
the things that they are able to get. In Connecticut they had a statue that banned the use of birth
control in married couples but in 1965 s the U.S. Supreme Court had took it down. The U.S.
Congress restricted public access to all birth control methods and information on them for about
6 decades. In the early 1990 s schools and religious groups in the United States gave many older
students condoms to use for a method of birth control and to help prevent the spread of AIDS.
They did some surveys in the United States and the most people that uses some type of birth
control are the married couples. You can go to your near pharmacist or doctor to get some type of
birth control or information on it. The federal government and the states provide family planning as
part of their health and welfare programs. (Wagnalls,Funk). In the twentieth century the average use
of family planning increased. Some of the clinics around the United States rely on the birth control
pill. In the 1900 s many more women started using some type of birth control

Jane Doe is a 25 year old Registered Nurse who has been working in the emergency department
for 2 years. One night she was drawing blood on a HIV positive patient and upon disposing a
butterfly needle in to the appropriate sharps container, she had a needle stick injury due to the
safety needle not retracting into the sheath and was stuck deeply into one of her finger pads. She
immediately began to wash the injury with soap and water and squeezed out some of the blood
contents, and went to seek Post Exposure Prophylaxis Treatment within 3 hours. Her initial baseline

Jane was not showing any signs or symptoms of complication until about four months later. She
began to experience recurring headaches, fatigue, decreased appetite, and losing weight, fever and
complained of a sore throat with white patches developing. Her neck lymph nodes were also

The Stages Of Grief By Elisabeth Kubbler Ross And David...
Five Stage of Grief The thought of death and dying for many is just that, a mere thought that lives
in the back of ones mind. However, for many others these thoughts are a painful reality. How
individuals navigate through death and dying is a very personal journey that cannot be easily
predicted. It is important to understand that there is neither a set time line nor right or wrong way
to process the loss of life. The book On Griefand Grieving: Finding the Meaning of Grief Through
the Five Stage Loss by Elisabeth KГјbbler Ross and David Kessler, aims to help individuals
experiencing loss better understand the coping emotions associated with the grieving process
through identifying five common stages of grief.
Denial
KГјbbler Ross and Kessler (2005) described denial in this instance as a symbolic term versus
literal rejection of information. In this case denial may look more like disbelief of shocking
information. Denial is the minds way of protecting itself against painful and shocking thoughts,
feelings, and perceptions and can be experienced by both healthy and sick persons (KГјbbler Ross
Kessler, 2005). The minds rejection of painful and harmful information is a form of avoidance
coping, which allows individuals to integrate cognitively dissonant information at a more
manageable pace (Charles Kamen, 2012). Through denial one may be able to unconsciously
manage their feelings about the given situation.
Impact of Denial Denial can give individuals the ability to let

In the United States laws are first introduced by a single or multiple U.S. House Representatives.
Once the law is discussed and has been passed through specific committees the law will be
debated in the full House. A series of debates will be had on the law and if voted on the law will
be amended or will stay the same. Once the debate on the law is over, the House will take a vote,
if simple majority votes for the law then the law will move onto the Senate. The Senate will go

When it comes to going to court you will have two different systems in which your case will be
heard, Civil case or a Criminal case. A civil case will be brought by individuals or busisnesses
who are seeking a monetary payment or a certain amount of money. A criminal case will be brought
by the government and the outcome will be probation, fine, or jail time.
When there is a disagreement between state laws and federal laws a clause in the constitution
called the Supremecy Clause will take over and inside the supremacey clause there is what s
called the doctrine of pre emption. If a state passes a law that contridicts what a federal law
states then the federal law will always prevail. There are a few examples of this happening
recently with the legalization of cannibis and gay marriage. Although a state has passed a law
stating that cannibis is legal in that particular state if the federal government wanted to come and
stop the citizens from possessing cannibis then they would be within their rights since it is against
federal law to posses cannibis (Lawson, 2017). Most environmental laws are federal laws because
most of the agencies that are tasked with protecting the environment are federal agencies.

persons and be free from unreasonable search and seizures. Companies in certain industries are

The Lottery Analysis
The Lottery by Shirley Jackson is the story of a town that is caught up in its old ways and
traditions. The story is set in a small town on a beautiful, mid summers day. People of the town
gather as if it is just another summer day, The lottery was conducted as were the square dances, the
teenage club, the Halloween program... As the people gather, they see friends and family and talk
about random, everyday things. The children play, the parents start conversations. All of the noise
stops when suddenly Mr. Summers, the man who conducts the lottery, comes in with a worn and
chipped black box. Each head of the family is called up to the black box, and they proceed by
each pulling a piece of folded paper out of the box. Mr. Summers calls attention, and each of the
men opens their piece of paper. A man named Bill Hutchinson has the piece of paper with a black
doton it. Each member of the Hutchinson family is then called up to the black box, and they
each pull a piece of paper out. One by one they each open their piece of paper until somebody
gets the black dot. The children, Bill Jr, Nancy, and Dave, all get by with a dotless piece of
paper. When it is down to Bill and his wife Tessie, they both open their paper, and it is revealed
that Tessie has the black dot. Tessie tries to argue that the process was done too fast and it was not
fair, but the townspeople disagree. Each person in the town, including the children, pick up a stone

Why A Parrot Owner Or Just Preparing For Bring One Home
Whether you are an experienced parrot owner or just preparing to bring one home, there are many
important factors that must be considered. Owning a parrot is an incredible commitment. It
requires 24 hour responsibility and an awareness of factors that most people never give a second
thought to. Some of these factors can mean life or death to a parrot. We still do not know very much
about how our day to day living affects our feathered companions, so it s important to remain up
to date and continue your research every day. Parrots have a very sensitive respiratory system.
They have a set of lungs as well as air sacs that are distributed throughout the body. This makes
their breathing extremely efficient and incredibly sensitive to chemicals and fumes. Scented
candles, plug in home deodorizers, hair products and perfumes, cigarettes, etc. can cause great
harm and even death when used in the same room as a parrot. If it smells strongly to you, it could
be harming your parrot. On the other side of that, there are many products that we cannot smell
that can be just as harmful. PTFE/non stick coated cookware, space heaters, self cleaning ovens,
etc. have the potential to off gas and release very harmful fumes that can kill parrots in a matter of
seconds. Many products are being manufactured with non stick parts that are not listed in their
manuals/warning paperwork. This is where doing your research is imperative. If you own your
house, there are other dangers to consider. Pest

Mercantile Policies During The 17th And 18th Centuries
Outline the main mercantile policies pursued by European nations during the 17th and 18th
centuries. Apply economic principles to analyse the impact of such policies on the countries that
adopted them.
Mercantilism was at its peak in Europe during the 17th and 18th century, this essay will look at the
policies adopted by Britain, the Dutch republic and France and see how they affected their
economies and industries as well as that of the other nations.
Britain
The British empire used various mercantile policies to attempt to increase the country s wealth,
Britain mainly granted monopolies and privileges in order to restrict competition in sea trade.
Tariffs
Britain used tariffs on imports coming in from Dutch vessels, mainly against Dutch fish imports
to develop the English fishing industry (Findlay and O Rourke, pg. 242, 2007). Britain used
tariffs on the Dutch vessels in order to allow the fishing industry to grow in Britain whilst also
allowing enough fish in to satisfy demand. As mercantilists saw the trade between nations as a zero
sum game the British still saw this as a way it was reducing Dutch trade whilst also increasing their
own.
However, tariffs can be looked at in the economic sense of reducing overall welfare due to the tariff
being introduced as it pushes the prices upwards. This tends to affect the economic welfare of
consumers more than producers. Therefore, it could be argued that for the consumers in Britain this
policy negatively affected them whilst

Thank You For Smoking Ethical Quotes
True success can only be achieved should one be able to accept their way of life despite the
views and criticism of others. In the novel Thank You For Smoking written by Christopher
Buckley, the novel centers around Nick Naylor, a spokesman for a tobacco company, infamous
for his unethical methods in the way he performs. As ruthless as he seems, however, it is due to
this type of character that Naylor is able to come out on top and become the successful man he is
today. Using Nick Naylor, Buckley demonstrates how humans are able to achieve the success they
desire, but only if they are able to act on their own accord to do so. By following through decisions

Using Nick Naylor, Buckley shows how ones character does not define their chances of success,
but is rather based on the actions they take in order to do so by using that character. Despite the
harsh view of society, Naylor shows that he is able to achieve success by acting on his own
accord due to his character and make decisions based off that no matter how underhanded they
may seem. He does not let any influences impact his decisions whether that be society, his
superiors, or even the law. As a result, he remains strong willed throughout his life in order to reach
the new heights he desires. Therefore, if one is to pursue the path towards success, then they should

Education And Success Levels Of All Students On Their Campus
Introduction and Background The main idea of ELCC Standard One is the role the administrator
takes to influence the education and success levels of all students on their campus. It is imperative
the administrator works with all stakeholders to help facilitate the development, articulation, and
implementation of a vision that everyone can agree on. The principal must embrace and support
their vision before they can expect others to share their vision. It is important for the administrator
to build relationships with the staff and community before they expect their vision to be excepted.

When talking about student achievement at Bernal Middle School Mr. Mendez stated the
struggling students were in the special education program. One way Bernal is trying to reach the
parents of these students is by newsletters, phone calls and meetings that discuss our special
education programs. Recently, the school created an outreach program that showed parents of
special education student our collaborative model of learning. The parents were invited by phone,
email and newsletter to attend a meeting that focused on the achievement of their student. The
meeting introduced them to the learning techniques that were being showcased in a collaborative

sometimes rushing our way home or to a hospital. Athena talked about her sister.
From a multitude of treatments to doctors appointments, from new medications to hospital visits,
the process to healing seemed to take longer and longer.
Angeliki Pelehrinis had anger in her, she did not want to deal with this cancer. There were times

Figurative Language In Goblin Market
Goblin Market is a narrative unlike other poems. The two sisters, Laura and Lizzie, were narrating
the story to their children. And since this poem is a narrative, it is a very long poem; it contains
twenty eight stanzas and one hundred and thirty nine lines. But like most poems, Goblin Market
has unique structure, language, themes, symbols, and figurative language. The structure and style
of this narrative is extravagant. The rhyme is one factor that contributes to the uniqueness of the
style of the poem. Christina Rossettiprovides very vivid details, from the smallest to largest things.
She describes the fruit and the goblins, from the color and shape of each fruit to the looks and
personality of each of the goblins.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, it is used to describe Lizzie s positive actions to show the importance of them.
Simile is one of the most used types of figurative languages in this poem. Like a lily in a flood.
(Rossetti, 409) this quote is inferring that a beauty and innocence is being surrounded and
devoured by an evil or horror of the goblins. Like a beacon left alone in a hoary roaring sea.
(Rossetti, 412 413) In these lines, the setting of the passage was very dangerous like the waves
in the ocean, but she was still left unharmed despite the violence and danger. Like a rock of blue
veined stone lashed by tides obstreperously. (Rossetti, 410 411) The imagery in this poem gives
true and detailed insight on the character of Laura, and shows how important strength and
innocence develops in the passage. Imagery is used when goblins furiously attack Lizzie. Close
beleaguered by a fleet mad to tug her standard down (Rossetti, 420 421) and royal virgin town
(Rossetti, 418) are two great examples and uses of imagery. In these two lines, an image of Lizzie
defending her home of sorts against an attack, and she stands her ground to defend it against the

Another Turn of the Crank by Wendell Berry Essay
Another Turn of the Crank by Wendell Berry Wendell Berry s Another Turn of the Crank is
about sustainability of the environment. He believes that you must first start at a local level
then sustainability can be accomplished at a global level. This is the same idea that was
expressed at the start of this course, think globally, act locally, which means the consequences of
our actions effect the world. As I address the some of the chapters in the book I will associate
how Berry s ideas link into the material discussed in this class. Farming and the Global Economy
is the first chapter of the book. He starts with the history of farmers during WWII. The farmers

Times magazine reported in 1910 there were 32 million farmers living on farms and in 1991 32
percent of farm managers and 86 percent of farmers did not live on the farm that they took care
of. Now there isn t even an agricultural class. The book goes on to talk about rape and run
logging in Montana. We talked about the fly by night corporations in class. Both are the same
just different terminology. In Montana, the Champion International Corp. went on a tree
cutting binge in Montana, which leveled forests. They then left leaving behind million of
people unemployed and over 1,000 square acres stripped. This leaves people poor and the land
trashed. This is only one case, but I know we talked about this in class. These corporations suck
everything they can out of a community until there isn t anything left for them. They decided to
leave one day and never think twice about the people. That s why Berry has come up with a list
of actions a community can do to help their own community flourish. I won t list them all, but I
will name a few important ones like: always put local needs first, develop small scale industries,
strive to produce as much of the community s own energy as possible, see that the old and young
take care of each other, and so on. These actions would help a community grow stronger in many
ways. Conserving Forest Communities deals with forestry in Kentucky. Berry is from

Effects Of Welfare On The American City By Matthew Desmond
The book titled Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City by Matthew Desmond talked
about the crisis that low income families face in finding and maintaining affordable housing.
Desmond explains the situation like rising housing cost, a shortfall of federal housing assistance,
and falling incomes among the poor. Mostly, African American poor single parent with children
face a high risk of eviction. The poor living is something that no one will like to leave, but the
conditions of your environment make it so. Poor living leads you into places you would not like
to go and keep you in places you do not want. According to Social Science and Medicine Journal
titled Health related Effects of Welfareto Work Policies, Welfare to work program is a program
that is established to help the poor and needy get out of poor leaving circumstances, which may lead
to better health regarding improved income, good nutrition, and reduced stress. In my opinion,
welfare to work rather causes harm than good since this makes them remain poor and stably
housed. (Ayala RodrГguez, 2013)
In the book evicted, the prevalence of eviction, scarcity of good jobs, rise in unemployment,
declined of employment and payment of wages instead of salaries lead to stable housing for
Milwaukee residents who are mostly black. Also, half of Milwaukee black population were

High. Starting on September 3rd, 1957, Melba s life was changed forever. Through trials
unbearable to most people, Melba and the other eight students chosen to integrate Central High
stood tall and persevered. Though their journey was harrowing, they survived and set a turning
point that has forever changed our history. By showing examples of the attitudes of the people on
Melba s life, the author helps further develop the setting. With a well developed setting comprised
of many characters that changed Melba s view on people, the reader better understands the trials

Integumentary System
B5 Summarize the major functions of the integumentary system and give examples on how this
system relates to at least two other organ systems.
The 5 Major functions of the skin:
1.Protection o The integumentary system protects the human body in two ways physically and
chemically.
Physically, keratinized epithelial cells (outermost layer of skin cells) act as a tough waterproof
barrier. These keratinized cells are really good at protecting the body from water loss, mechanical
and chemical injury, and keeping bacterial cells out of the body.
Chemically, a chemical barrier is formed by the production of acidic secretions by the sebaceous
(oil) glands. The acidic environment inhibits bacterial growth.
2.Thermoregulation o The integumentary system helps to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The various wastes secreted by the integumentary system are cellular metabolic wastes,
electrolytes, and excess water.
5.Synthesize Vitamin D3 o The integumentary system synthesizes vitamin D3 in the presence of
sunlight.
In the presence of sunlight a sterol (7 Dehydrocholesterol) is converted to vitamin D3. Vitamin
D3 is needed for our bones and teeth to grow and is important in making certain types of
antibodies. Vitamin D3 also plays an important role in the absorption of calcium for our bones.
Relation to Skeletal System
Skin protects the bones, but also synthesizes the vitamin D3 that bones need for normal calcium
absorption and deposit of bone (calcium) salts, which make bones hard.
Relation to Endocrine System
Androgens produced by the endocrine system activate the sebaceous glands and help regulate hair
growth; estrogen helps to maintain skin hydration.
3 Fun Facts
1.The thinnest skin is found on your eyelids 0.1mm thick, while the thickest skin is found on the
bottom of your foot 2 3mm thick.
2.Scar tissue lacks hair and sweat glands

Some of these good virtues can be inferred from ancient Egyptian funerary texts such as The
Negative Confession, which state I have not caused pain, I have not caused tears, I have not killed...
[10] According to this text, causing pain and tears, and committing murder were actions that could
bar one from attaining immortality. This standard of ethics differs from the previously held notion,
which was that only kings could become immortals. Because of the potential promise of eternity,
people began to act better, in hopes that their efforts would be enough.

Much of this arises from manufacturing organizations that continue to produce large amounts of
unnecessary waste or emissions rather than investing in better technologies or practices to prevent
its generation at the source (Klassen,2000; King and Lenox, 2002). External pressure applied by
customers to achieve the requirements of reduced cost, increasing quality and faster delivery leads
to production of unnecessary waste or the choosing of lower cost but environmentally unsustainable
production alternatives (Green et al., 1998). No significant research contribution investigating the
sustainability aspects of supply chains has been reported in the Indian context so far, and thus it is
felt essential to undertake this study which targets the automobile supply chain, keeping in focus
environmental and social concerns. The idea is to unearth the various pressures/ drivers, practices
and performance of the adopted measures for green and socially responsible supply chains. After a
brief review about the Indian automobile supply chain, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and

Descriptive Essay About My First Buck
My First Buck
It was a bitter cold November morning. November 15 to be exact. This is a very special day to my
family and I. We woke up early that morning to get ready for the exciting day ahead of us. We
bundled up in many layers of clothes and made some cofee for my Dad.
We then set off to the blind before the trophies come out. As I was walking to the blind I could see
my breath. As the sun set over the leafless trees, we began to start hearing some life throughout
the woods. Although the movement we have heard has not been the trophy we have been
looking for it just keeps my heart pumping. We have probably been in the blind for about 5 hours
so we decided to go grab something to eat from the truck when suddenly we heard heavy
footsteps right behind our blind which is where the door is. I creeked the door open and what I
saw made my heart go a million miles a second. 3 doe stood behind us creeping around. They
seemed very sketchy so immediatly we closed the door and waited for them to come around to the
front of the blind. The day got so much better knowing that there are deer in this area. Even though
they were doe we still had the thought in our mind that a trophy buck might just pass through
here looking for a mate. We watched the deer walk about 30 yards in front of us for about 20
miniutes but by that time i was ready for a buck to come through here. It was hard to sit still in

There are two sides to the world of street racing; those who hate it, and those who love it. There
has been much dispute between each other for many years now. Disputes like street racing is
dangerous and illegal and that people are dying because of it. The main problem between the
sides is that they refuse to see and understand the other side s view on things. A fully working
compromise has yet to be discovered to end all the controversy with illegal street racing.
There are many reasons why people love street racing. One of those reasons is because of there
love for fast cars. They love watching or actually racing their own cars to see which car will
perform better. A need for speed also comes into play to explain why people enjoy racing so
much. For some people, they only feel free when they are racing; driving at high speeds down
the street, and this is their only way to reach that. One of the most sought after cars by street
racers is the Toyota Supra TT (twin turbo). This just happens to be one of my favorite cars too.
Not only is it extremely fast, but it is also very good looking too.
Street racers are just like everyone else. The only difference between them and everyone else is
what they do or think is fun. Some people think that playing a fun game of football outside is fun,

Argumentative Essay On Fox-Hunting
Fox hunting A Barbaric Tradition That Should Remain Firmly In The Past Fox hunting The sport
of hunting a fox across country with a pack of hounds by a group of people on foot and
horseback, a traditional sport of the English landed gentry (Oxford Dictionary) Two perspectives
exist within fox hunting, they either hate fox hunting as they believe it is a horrendous form of
animal cruelty or they think that foxes aren t like other domesticated animals and their lives are
not worth anything anyway. From a young age of 12 I took an interest in the differences between
foxes and dogs. I wondered why dogs receive domestication and the other doesn t; why humans can

of fox hunting? Theresa May, leader of the Conservative party and Prime Minister, told the BBC
that she was in favour of fox hunting. Not only does that give us an account of what kind of person
is running our country but informs us just how corrupt the political view on hunting in general
might be within parliament. Instead of a fine, those guilty of ignoring the ban should face a jail

How does Newton s Third Law explain how airfoils create lift? (When the air pushes down on the
wings of a plane wing, the direction of the air and the shape of the foil sends the air up and over
the leading edge and then downward as it passes over the wing. This push down on the wing is
countered with an equal upward thrust, creating lift.)
What is the angle of attack? (How steeply the wing is tilted toward the incoming air.)
Why is the pitch of the propeller different in the middle than the outer edge? (Velocity and pitch
both affect lift. Since the outer tip is going quite fast relative to the air, it does not need a steep
pitch in order to generate a good amount of lift. The parts nearer the center are not moving as
quickly relative to the air, so they need a steeper pitch in order to generate a comparable amount of

Christian Church s Role In American Society
Over the years, the government of the American people has subtly and gradually seized control of
the responsibilities and roles of the American family and the Christian church. Both families and
the church are being completely taken over by the government as time passes by. Now the people
of America are counting on the government, not their family and the church as it used to be. Now
people are putting their trust and hope in the government and not the church as it should be. The

live. government also chooses where their children go to school, if they go to public school, so the
families have no say in what school they want their children to go to. The school they are sent to
depends on where they live. Now, instead of the families teaching discipline, it is mostly
teachers and the police teaching discipline to the student. Nowadays, kids rely on schools for
encouragement, specifically from guidance counselors. It used to be the family s jobs to

example of this is how schools prepares the kids for their future and not the family. Government

My mind is a lot stronger than my body and I can t lie and say that it doesn t bother my state of

hour to get out of bed when I wake up because my limbs might be temporarily paralyzed or my
heart is tachycardic and there s nothing I can do about it. But once I get myself together after I
wake up, I say a prayer, think positive thoughts and go on about my day!
Because my days are so unpredictable, I literally have to take one day at a time. Planning upcoming
days can seem like an impossible feat because I never know how my body will respond. Most
bloggers are great at planning their blog schedules ahead of time and sticking to it. To be honest, I
started to develop blogger envy because I would read posts about how well other bloggers could
stick to their schedule and because of their consistency, their following grew exponentially. I was
struggling with growing my following on social networks because I couldn t be as consistent as
them. That destroyed my inner peace and I never should of let that happen because most of those
bloggers don t face the same challenges as me and I shouldn t have been comparing my grass to

Singapore Management University Goldman Sachs in Libya
Goldman Sachs in Libya With a founding history of 145 years, Goldman Sachs, the investment
banking, securities and investment management firm can lay claim to being one of the most
profitable among the Wall Street firms better than its competitors while managing to retain its
reputation all along as one with impeccable credentials. As stated on their company website,
Goldman Sachs prides itself on having pioneered many of the practises and techniques that have
become the norm in the investment banking circles. The firm also incorporates a business model
which consists of hiring the best talent and inculcating in them a corporate culture where
partnership culture is valued above all else, and honouring its founding principles, the first of
which, quoting Goldman is Our client s interests always come first. 1
After the financial crisis of 2008, however, there is another way of viewing Goldman Sachs: a
firm that prided its dedication to its clients as the apogee of its structure, to one that has evolved
into something more blatantly self serving. According to author William Cohen, in his book
Money and Power, he has stated that Its primary source of profit has shifted from banking to
trading, and the firm is intentionally quite vague about how, and precisely where, those trades are
made or, equally relevant, from whom the profits are coming. It is a Wall Street titan whose clever

The elimination and cut backs of public mental hospitals resulted in the building of Community
Mental Health Centers. The serious mentally ill who were supposed to benefit by these
developments were replaced by people who were well off and thought they were sick. Making the
problem worse the serious mentally ill were unable to re enter hospitals because of tighter
admissions standards ( Contemporary World Issues 1990). Without hospitalization or the ability to
support themselves they were forced to the streets.
Declining wages have put housing out of reach for many workers. In every state, more than
minimum wage is needed to afford a one or two bedroom apartment. A minimum wage worker
would have to work 87 hours a week to afford a two bedroom apartment (U.S Conference of
Mayors 1998). Thus insufficient income leaves many people homeless.
For families and individuals struggling to pay rent, a serious illness or disability can push them
over the edge into homelessness. This might begin with a lost job, reduction of savings to pay for
care, and eventual eviction.
I feel in writing this essay we should all help the homeless to get back on their feet. They are in
desperate need of a helping hand, to get through this. Other reasons for helping the homeless are,
they are human beings as well as you and I, it reduces our taxes if there were no homeless, and
some crime will be eliminated on the streets.

The Kikuyu Conforming to Christianity
Jomo Kenyatta s ethnography, Facing Mt. Kenya was written in the 1930 s about Kikuyu society
during 1890 1910, the early years of British colonialism in Kenya. Since the coming of the early
colonization the Kikuyu people have tried to develop a religious attitude that would define it s own
culture while adapting forcefully to the European conforms of religion.
The preconceived European ideas about the African natives were unjust and unsubstantiated. The
missionaries viewed the Africans as savages and that everything that they did was evil.

Missionaries tried to break up the any polygamous relationships that existed between Kikuyu men
and women without any concern to what it meant to the two sexes and the community. The need
for women to be mothers and wives was rooted deep in traditional collective beliefs. In Kikuyu
communities the raising of a family is great cause for rise in social status. The larger a mans
family the better it was for the community as a whole. This principle now being thwarted by the
white missionaries was hard on the whole family unit. Men would have to send away some of their
wives and children whom were a part of the community. Without polygamy, women would be driven
away and risk being unmarried then shunned out of the community.
The Kikuyu people tried to show the missionaries that the bible itself had polygamy prevalent
throughout and that some of the most religious men had several wives. Kikuyu men even tried to
take on name of biblical men who practiced polygamy to help prove themselves in front of God
and the missionaries. To the dismay of the clan these attempts to prove that polygamy was just,
were ultimately ignored and thrown out by the missionaries. In order to keep their cultural and
religious heritages existent new adaptations of religions begin to form after the invasion of the
Europeans. The

The new anti bleeding material originates from shrimp shells and is later developed into a spraying

most chronic open wounds, RT reported on Wednesday.
The sprayable polymer based foam can be significantly vital for treating major injuries in street

Fear Of Clowns Research

made my fear somewhat decrease. Most of my fear from them is what I didn t know or see. But I
m still not afraid of the circus. Clowns always frightened me as a child, but one Halloween made it
even worse. I was on a haunted housetour with my family when I accidentally was diverted. Not
knowing I was alone for a while I wandered into a room full of killer looking clowns and they all
swarmed me at once. The quick outburst of them from every direction was so terrifying that I
passed out right where I was standing and awoke in the hospital. I looked over to my mom and
she said They have something to say. I looked to my right side and I saw the clowns once again
this time they looked even more evil. Once again I passed out. The next time I woke up I
checked to make sure there wasn t any clowns and then checked again to be safe. Lucky for me
there were none to be seen and I was relieved but still on edge from the whole encounter. My mom

Global Population Control and Environmental Policies Essay
Global population control and environmental policies are the subject of international controversy.
The rate at which human beings are populating the earth and polluting it are some of the most
important factors that face the global society today. As of March 2009, the world population is
about 6.76 billion. With the high rate of populationincrease, the global population is expected to
reach 9 billion by 2040. With the number of people in the world today and the amount of
consumer goods being purchased and used, these factors present a problem to the state of the

These figures strike a resemblance to how fast the earth is gaining population.
Many scientists believe that high income nations present a much greater threat to the ecosystem
because there are more people in these countries consuming goods at a faster rate than low income
countries. Ecosystems cannot support high rates of population growth combined with
environmental damage. The carrying capacity of the earth s ecosystems are being surpassed and
the ecosystems of many nations are being ruined at a very fast pace. The rate at which country s
populations are growing, it will not be very long before many of the carrying capacities are
surpassed. Environmental degradation involves taking natural resources from the environment
and re introducing them to the environment in the form of pollution. One of the reasons for
environmental degradation is greediness. People are trying to maintain high levels of wealth
and do not care at what cost to the environment. The perfect example of this would be the current
situation in Fort McMurray, Alberta. The land is being stripped of its natural resources everyday
and is left behind a barren land. The rate at which the air is being polluted in Fort McMurray is
triple that of anywhere else in western Canada. People from all over North America have relocated
to Fort McMurray because of the demand of jobs there. Fort McMurray is

  • 2. The Clash Of Civilizations By Samuel Huntington Essay Samuel Huntington s controversial article The Clash of Civilizations? was first published in Foreign Affairs in 1993 and was subsequently turned into a book in 1996 titled The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order. As this paper will show Huntington s work can be seen as a product of the post Cold Warcontext it was written in. Huntington s article takes a new perspective on the new world order and outlines a different way a thinking about how future world conflicts will unfold. Since the initial journal article was published in 1993 there has been a great deal of response from academics and also from Huntington himself. A majority of the responses come in the form of critiques, with the authors offering their own insight into how the post Cold War World will operate. Although the validity of Huntington s arguments have been questioned, it did create a great deal of controversy in the academic world. As Huntington explained in the preface of his 1996 book, the original article published in Foreign Affairs created more discussion in three years than any other article published in the journal since the 1940s. Huntington s initial article argued that in the post Cold War era the fundamental source of conflict would not be ideological or economic, but cultural. He continues by arguing that nation states will continue to be the most powerful actors in global affairs, but the conflicts of global politics that are to occur in the future will happen between ... • 3. Diversity In G. B. F. G.B.F. is a movie that explores the life of a gay high school student but fails drastically to create a narrative based on the real lives of LGBT persons and the result is riddled with inaccuracies, stereotypes, and a lack of diversity. G.B.F. is about Tanner, a closeted high school teenager who lives in a town with no openly gay people. However, with the vote for prom queen coming up, the three contenders, Fawcett, Shley, and Caprice all want a Gay Best Friend to give them that edge over their competition. They set out on a manhunt to find their own real life gay and accidentally out Tanner to the whole school. Now, North Gate High has its first openly gay student. Tanner skyrockets to popularity among the majority of his classmates... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Topher is introduced to the audience as Shley s boyfriend. However, once Topher finally gets some alone time with Tanner, he sexually assaults him by forcing Tanner to make out with him. When Tanner tries to elicit an explanation from Topher over his uncharacteristic behavior, Topher says that he s experimenting and needs to get it out of his system (G.B.F. 2013). He then proceeds to make out with Tanner, even touching his crotch and legs in the process. Tanner has the physically remove himself from the car in order to get Topher to stop. Later in the movie, Topher corners Brent in the supply closet and forces himself on Brent. Similarly, Topher does not care the Brent has never expressed a sexual interest in him, he simply forces himself onto the only two gay men he knows so that he can fulfill some sort of fantasy or urge he has. Topher is obviously not straight, however, it is unclear whether he is gay, bisexual, fluid, or pansexual. Either way, Topher is a member of the LGBTcommunity and his actions portray them in a horrible light. Topher sexually assaults two men in this movie without their consent, making it seem like closeted members of the LGBT community are only horny and violent. For a movie that is supposed to display the LGBT community is a positive light, G.B.F. does a horrible job portraying Topher as a questioning teenager trying to figure out his sexuality. The producers could have used Topher to show the side of the LGBT community that is in the process of questioning their sexuality and experimenting, but they instead choose to only show Topher as a horny and violent ... • 5. Essay on Jane Austin and Pride Prejudice Jane Austin is currently known today as one of the women who first developed the ideas related to feminism (Abrams). Jane s work became prevalent in English literature during time of transition from neo classicism to romanticism (Abrams). She was influenced by a number of other literary figures of her time, and by the society in which she lived. Her writing sometimes reflected earlier writers, whom she sometimes mocked because they always portrayed a perfect world in their writing and the world was not that way. Her writing style was elegant and satirical. In her novels, Jane Austendescribed people who were the sorts of people she knew. Many of the character s and events in her stories were real events that were occurring in her life... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The possibility of scorn was what influenced Austen s decision to publish anonymously (Watkins). It was her favorite brother was who revealed her identity later (Watkins). The Austin family was accepted socially by wealthier families but was not as wealthy as these families. This made it hard for their daughters to attract suitors because there was not anything to be gained by the suitor s family. Jane received a marriage proposal but turned it down because she did not want to sacrifice her life as an author to juggle being a wife, mother and gentry hostess (Abrams). Jane Austin was one of the first women in the public eye to say that women did not have to conform to norms that were set by society (Johnson). Jane made it very clear in her writing that it was unfair for women to marry for class; she mocked this idea in her writings (Bloom; Johnson). After visiting her brother Edward and his wife Elizabeth, in 1796 Jane began writing pride and prejudice. Austen wrote Pride Prejudice as a reflection of the times she lived in, the relationship between men and women and the rules of courting (Bloom). It could even be said that the novels could be related to loneliness that she experienced because she never married and maybe it was her living out her fantasies through her novels (Bloom). • 7. Increasing the Bioavailability of Eye Drops Essay Most ocular diseases are treated with topical application of eye drops. After instillation of an eye drop, typically less than 5% of the applied drug penetrates the cornea and reaches intraocular tissues, while a major fraction of the instilled dose is absorbed and enters the systemic circulation. As ocular efficiency of topically applied drugsis influenced by the corneal contact time, most common method of improving ocular availability of drugs is to increase pre corneal residence time by using vesicular system and hydrogel. One such approach to improve bioavailability of drug is the use of in situ gelling system, which gets converted from sol to gel as a result of change in pH. By using Carbopol940 a pH sensitive gelling agent, an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A significant challenge to the formulator is to bypass the protective barriers of the eye without causing permanent tissue damage. Conventional ophthalmic formulations like solution, suspension, and ointment have many disadvantages which result in poor bioavailability of drug in the ocular cavity. The specific aim of designing a therapeutic system is to achieve an optimal concentration of a drug at the active site for the appropriate duration [3]. The various approaches that have been attempted to increase the bioavailability and the duration of the therapeutic action of ocular drugs can be divided into two categories. The first one is based on the use of sustained drug delivery systems such as vesicles and particulates, which provide the controlled and continuous delivery of ophthalmic drugs. The second involves maximizing corneal drug absorption and minimizing pre corneal drug loss which can be achieved by amphiphilic vesicles [4]. Niosomes are non ionic surfactant vesicles obtained by hydration of synthetic nonionic surfactants, with or without incorporation of cholesterol or other lipids. They are vesicular systems similar to liposomes that can be used as carriers of amphiphilic and lipophilic drugs [5]. Niosomes are promising vehicle for drug delivery and being non ionic; they are less toxic and improve the therapeutic index of drug by restricting their action to target ... Close Reading Analysis Essay Close Reading Analysis There could not be a be a more fitting quote in Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe that describes the overall setting of the book than the quote above. While someone who reads Things Fall Apart may interpret the title as a reflection of Okonkwo s downfall from the colonist s intrusion on his village and clan; the title also is a mirror of the effects the colonists had on the falling apart of traditions and customs of the African people of Okonkwo s village not just Okonkwo himself. In comparison throughout several other works of African literature a commonality among readings can be seen that the inclusion of colonists into different African tribes led to the loss of several tribal identities. • 10. Robots Guided through Computer Vision 1.1 Basic introduction Human life is of prime importance. It is the most beautiful and precious gift of God. Sometimes situations occur where we would have no choice and we have to put someone s life in danger to save many other lives. At that time we would surely think that it would be better if there is some kind of replacement for human body which can perform human tasks. Furthermore, there are millions of physically challenged people who can t perform day to day simple tasks which a normal man can easily perform. The answer and solution to all these problems is ROBOT. Human life is becoming more advanced and safer day by day. Human efforts are replaced with machines which can perform work accurately, precisely and safely. The idea of a robot to provide assistance either in the home, office or in more hostile environments (e.g. bomb disposal or nuclear reactors) has existed for many years and such systems are available today. Unfortunately, they are typically expensive and by no means ubiquitous in the way that 1950sand 60s science fiction would have had us believe. The major limitations to including robots in homes and offices are the infrastructure changes they require. Computer vision however means that robots can be monitored from just a few inexpensive cameras and the recent availability of wireless network solutions (IEEE 802.11 and Bluetooth in particular) has decimated the infrastructure they demand. The final step to the package is how humans are to interact ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She and some other women opened clinics to help women understand the information and devices of birth control. She would be thrown in jail for trying to get women to understand the things that they are able to get. In Connecticut they had a statue that banned the use of birth control in married couples but in 1965 s the U.S. Supreme Court had took it down. The U.S. Congress restricted public access to all birth control methods and information on them for about 6 decades. In the early 1990 s schools and religious groups in the United States gave many older students condoms to use for a method of birth control and to help prevent the spread of AIDS. They did some surveys in the United States and the most people that uses some type of birth control are the married couples. • 13. The Stages Of Grief By Elisabeth Kubbler Ross And David... Five Stage of Grief The thought of death and dying for many is just that, a mere thought that lives in the back of ones mind. However, for many others these thoughts are a painful reality. How individuals navigate through death and dying is a very personal journey that cannot be easily predicted. It is important to understand that there is neither a set time line nor right or wrong way to process the loss of life. The book On Griefand Grieving: Finding the Meaning of Grief Through the Five Stage Loss by Elisabeth KГјbbler Ross and David Kessler, aims to help individuals experiencing loss better understand the coping emotions associated with the grieving process through identifying five common stages of grief. Denial KГјbbler Ross and Kessler (2005) described denial in this instance as a symbolic term versus literal rejection of information. In this case denial may look more like disbelief of shocking information. Denial is the minds way of protecting itself against painful and shocking thoughts, feelings, and perceptions and can be experienced by both healthy and sick persons (KГјbbler Ross Kessler, 2005). The minds rejection of painful and harmful information is a form of avoidance coping, which allows individuals to integrate cognitively dissonant information at a more manageable pace (Charles Kamen, 2012). Through denial one may be able to unconsciously manage their feelings about the given situation. Impact of Denial Denial can give individuals the ability to let ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. The Lottery Analysis The Lottery by Shirley Jackson is the story of a town that is caught up in its old ways and traditions. The story is set in a small town on a beautiful, mid summers day. People of the town gather as if it is just another summer day, The lottery was conducted as were the square dances, the teenage club, the Halloween program... As the people gather, they see friends and family and talk about random, everyday things. The children play, the parents start conversations. All of the noise stops when suddenly Mr. Summers, the man who conducts the lottery, comes in with a worn and chipped black box. Each head of the family is called up to the black box, and they proceed by each pulling a piece of folded paper out of the box. Mr. Summers calls attention, and each of the men opens their piece of paper. A man named Bill Hutchinson has the piece of paper with a black doton it. Each member of the Hutchinson family is then called up to the black box, and they each pull a piece of paper out. One by one they each open their piece of paper until somebody gets the black dot. The children, Bill Jr, Nancy, and Dave, all get by with a dotless piece of paper. When it is down to Bill and his wife Tessie, they both open their paper, and it is revealed that Tessie has the black dot. I say this because I am not an expert in music, therefore it would be hard for me to be a critical listener. • 18. Why A Parrot Owner Or Just Preparing For Bring One Home Whether you are an experienced parrot owner or just preparing to bring one home, there are many important factors that must be considered. Owning a parrot is an incredible commitment. It requires 24 hour responsibility and an awareness of factors that most people never give a second thought to. Some of these factors can mean life or death to a parrot. We still do not know very much about how our day to day living affects our feathered companions, so it s important to remain up to date and continue your research every day. Parrots have a very sensitive respiratory system. They have a set of lungs as well as air sacs that are distributed throughout the body. This makes their breathing extremely efficient and incredibly sensitive to chemicals and fumes. Scented candles, plug in home deodorizers, hair products and perfumes, cigarettes, etc. can cause great harm and even death when used in the same room as a parrot. If it smells strongly to you, it could be harming your parrot. On the other side of that, there are many products that we cannot smell that can be just as harmful. PTFE/non stick coated cookware, space heaters, self cleaning ovens, etc. have the potential to off gas and release very harmful fumes that can kill parrots in a matter of seconds. Many products are being manufactured with non stick parts that are not listed in their manuals/warning paperwork. This is where doing your research is imperative. Apply economic principles to analyse the impact of such policies on the countries that adopted them. Mercantilism was at its peak in Europe during the 17th and 18th century, this essay will look at the policies adopted by Britain, the Dutch republic and France and see how they affected their economies and industries as well as that of the other nations. Britain The British empire used various mercantile policies to attempt to increase the country s wealth, Britain mainly granted monopolies and privileges in order to restrict competition in sea trade. Tariffs Britain used tariffs on imports coming in from Dutch vessels, mainly against Dutch fish imports to develop the English fishing industry (Findlay and O Rourke, pg. 242, 2007). Britain used tariffs on the Dutch vessels in order to allow the fishing industry to grow in Britain whilst also allowing enough fish in to satisfy demand. As mercantilists saw the trade between nations as a zero sum game the British still saw this as a way it was reducing Dutch trade whilst also increasing their own. However, tariffs can be looked at in the economic sense of reducing overall welfare due to the tariff being introduced as it pushes the prices upwards. This tends to affect the economic welfare of consumers more than producers. Therefore, it could be argued that for the consumers in Britain this policy negatively affected them whilst ... He believes that you must first start at a local level then sustainability can be accomplished at a global level. This is the same idea that was expressed at the start of this course, think globally, act locally, which means the consequences of our actions effect the world. As I address the some of the chapters in the book I will associate how Berry s ideas link into the material discussed in this class. Farming and the Global Economy is the first chapter of the book. Both are the same just different terminology. In Montana, the Champion International Corp. went on a tree cutting binge in Montana, which leveled forests. They then left leaving behind million of people unemployed and over 1,000 square acres stripped. This leaves people poor and the land trashed. This is only one case, but I know we talked about this in class. These corporations suck everything they can out of a community until there isn t anything left for them. Much of this arises from manufacturing organizations that continue to produce large amounts of unnecessary waste or emissions rather than investing in better technologies or practices to prevent its generation at the source (Klassen,2000; King and Lenox, 2002). No significant research contribution investigating the sustainability aspects of supply chains has been reported in the Indian context so far, and thus it is felt essential to undertake this study which targets the automobile supply chain, keeping in focus environmental and social concerns. We woke up early that morning to get ready for the exciting day ahead of us. We bundled up in many layers of clothes and made some cofee for my Dad. • 56. Fear Of Clowns Research I have a major fear of clowns. It started with a terrible occurrence in my youth. Everytime I see one I have this horrible feeling that makes me sick. Of my experiences, I had one encounter that made my fear somewhat decrease. Most of my fear from them is what I didn t know or see. But I m still not afraid of the circus. Clowns always frightened me as a child, but one Halloween made it even worse. I was on a haunted housetour with my family when I accidentally was diverted. Not knowing I was alone for a while I wandered into a room full of killer looking clowns and they all swarmed me at once. The quick outburst of them from every direction was so terrifying that I passed out right where I was standing and awoke in the hospital. I looked over to my mom and she said They have something to say. I looked to my right side and I saw the clowns once again this time they looked even more evil. Once again I passed out. The next time I woke up I checked to make sure there wasn t any clowns and then checked again to be safe. Lucky for me there were none to be seen and I was relieved but still on edge from the whole encounter. My mom entered the room soon after I gathered all my nerves. She said that she thoughtthat me seeing them and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 57. Global Population Control and Environmental Policies Essay Global population control and environmental policies are the subject of international controversy. The rate at which human beings are populating the earth and polluting it are some of the most important factors that face the global society today. As of March 2009, the world population is about 6.76 billion. With the high rate of populationincrease, the global population is expected to reach 9 billion by 2040. With the number of people in the world today and the amount of consumer goods being purchased and used, these factors present a problem to the state of the environment in the near future. Over the past 50 years, the world s population has more than doubled and more than 1 billion of the world s people do not have enough food to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These figures strike a resemblance to how fast the earth is gaining population. Many scientists believe that high income nations present a much greater threat to the ecosystem because there are more people in these countries consuming goods at a faster rate than low income countries. Ecosystems cannot support high rates of population growth combined with environmental damage. The carrying capacity of the earth s ecosystems are being surpassed and the ecosystems of many nations are being ruined at a very fast pace. The rate at which country s populations are growing, it will not be very long before many of the carrying capacities are surpassed. Environmental degradation involves taking natural resources from the environment and re introducing them to the environment in the form of pollution. One of the reasons for environmental degradation is greediness. People are trying to maintain high levels of wealth and do not care at what cost to the environment. The perfect example of this would be the current situation in Fort McMurray, Alberta. The land is being stripped of its natural resources everyday and is left behind a barren land. The rate at which the air is being polluted in Fort McMurray is triple that of anywhere else in western Canada. People from all over North America have relocated to Fort McMurray because of the demand of jobs there. Fort McMurray is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
