Grapes Of Wrath By John Ford
Acceptance Humans always want to find a place where they can be assimilated. Humans want to live
in a community that they can assimilate into comfortably and can feel safe in easily. Grapes of Wrath,
directed by John Ford, which portrays the story of capitalist and environmental forces pushing a poor
family off their land and their migration to California. The family tries to look for a place where they
can secure jobs and food to support themselves daily. Similarly, the El Norte, directed by Gregory
Nava, is about a brother and a sister who have to escape from their government in their village to the
USA. Both Grapes of Wrath and El Norte argue that humans are not accepted unless they are
welcomed, able to survive, and allowed to stay there. In Grapes of Wrath, Joad s family is not
welcomed in the environment or the company. When Tom Joad is on the way home, the destructed
family s house scene illustrates that the environment does not welcome them to live there. In the
image, some dead trees have dried out on the sandy ground. Darkness covers the whole view of this
scene with the sound of the wind howling. The wind carries a lot of sand, showing that this place is
solitary, and that nature has moved on from the land. They cannot plant or harvest fruit from the trees
or crops on their land. In addition, as if being on useless land was not bad enough, the Shawnee Land
and Cattle Company who owned the lands forced them off. The scene with many caterpillar tractors

Literary Explication Of Shakespeare s Sonnet 130
Literary Explication When thinking of a love poem, one thinks of a cliché description of the speaker s
lover or maybe is an imaginative portrayal of love in a general sense. Love poems always have an
exaggerating characteristic when describing something or someone. Sonnet 130 by William
Shakespeare, is a parody of love poetry; love is not always like it is illustrated in others
contemporaries poems. The author of this sonnet uses the traditional English sonnet form, containing
fourteen lines, written in iambic pentameter, and has an ABABCDCDEFEFGG rhyme scheme. The
sonnet s form is part of the parody because usually love sonnets writers use traditional sonnet forms,
an example for this is Francesco Petrarch that is well known for his love sonnets written in Italian
sonnet form. Shakespeare makes the contradiction between a traditional sonnet form and a non
traditional content of the sonnet. The content of this sonnet, a decretory description of the speaker s
lover, is very opposite to a traditional love poem s content. In the first three quatrains of Sonnet 130 ,
the speaker compares his mistress with various thing and tells us how she doesn t measures up to
them. In the last couplet the speaker changes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Love poets seem to obsess with woman s appearances, but Shakespeare mange to poke on that
obsession, making this poem kind of a wakeup call on our image of beauty. As the speaker lightly
mocks traditional poems and beauty images, he turns the theme to an illustration of true love, ending
the poem on a sweet note. By turning the theme he goes from the person who he is mocking other
poets to the poet he has mocked all along. This couplet also sends the message that even in a poem
where he is mocking other poets he need to express his true feeling about his

Why Does Shintoism Need To Compete With Christianity
Shintoism is an ancient religion that predominates modern japan but it has undergone many changes to
compete with many foreign religions such as Christianity. Does Shintoism need to conform to
compete with Christianity better yet does it really need to compete with other religions anyway? The
main sentiment that comes with foreign religions is to explain the creation of the universe usually
depicting a divine being or god while Shintoism mainly tries to empower the mysteries of the universe
rather than to explain them. Shintoism also through the most part lacks a holy book since most of the
practices and ideas where spread through story tellers this causes an issue since foreign countries have
to explain Shintoism on their own which make it look barbaric in comparison. The early history of
Shintoism may shed some light on this argument to understand some of the reason for the Shinto
conformation. At around 300 B.C.E the Japanese people where set up in small clans named Uji and
each clan where unique from each other since they developed independently due to the mountains
such as Fuji (Kasulis, 75). Each Uji believed in a a spirit that protected the clan known as a Ujigami
which was the predecessor for the modern day kami that many foreign individuals see as ... Show

Doctrine of Repugnancy in India

AN ANALYTICAL STUDY AND APPLICABILITY OF THE DOCTRINE OF REPUGNANCY IN
INDIA
ABSTRACT
The distribution of powers is an essential feature of Federalism. The object for which a federal State is
formed involves a division of authority between the Central Government and the State Government.
The tendency of federalism is to limit on every side the action of the Government and to split up the
strength of the State among co ordinate and independent authorities are especially noticeable . A
Federal Constitution establishes a dual polity with the Union at the Center and the States at the
periphery, each endowed with sovereign powers to be exercised in the field assigned to them ... Show

APPLICABILITY OF THE DOCTRINE OF REPUGNANCY
The Doctrine of Repugnancy has been applied in a number of cases in India.
In a recent judgment , dealing with the issues relating to the constitutional validity of Maharashtra
Control of the Organized Crime Act (a State legislation), the Supreme Court revisited the doctrine of
Repugnancy and explained its nuances in its decision in Zameer Ahmed Latifur Rehman Sheikh v.
State of Maharashtra and Ors. in the following terms:
Chapter I of Part XI of the Constitution deals with the subject of distribution of legislative powers of
the Parliament and the legislature of the States. Article 245 of the Constitution provides that the
Parliament may make laws for the whole or any part of the territory of India, and the legislature of a
State may make laws for the whole or any part of the State. The legislative field of the Parliament and
the State Legislatures has been specified in Article 246 of the Constitution Article 246, reads as

Taking a Look at Eurasian Milfoil
Invasive species are organisms that harm a new environment that they are not native to. Many
invasive species like Eurasian milfoil are easily able to reproduce and can do so fast. Due to this, the
limited space in a body of water or area of land is quickly taken over by the invasive species so other
native plants face the risk of death or even extinction. Overall, these invasive species can do great
harm to an ecosystem or an economy, causing problems that are destructive to numerous organisms.
Eurasian milfoil or Myriophyllum spicatum is an aquatic invasive plant that can be found throughout
the Chicagoland area and in surrounding bodies of water. This plant can be a hinderance to swimming,
boating, and fishing because of their thick, tangled stems and mats of vegetation. According to the
Minnesota Sea Grant, Eurasian milfoil also overcrowd a body of water which leaves little room for the
plants native to the Great Lakes. One prediction is that if the Eurasian milfoil is not stopped, a
reduction of biodiversity may result in Chicago and the areas surrounding it. If this was to occur, the
ecosystems of the Midwest region would be significantly impacted in a negative way. As reported by
the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture), Eurasian milfoil, which is native to Europe,
Asia, and Northern Africa, was most likely accidentally introduced to the United States through ballast
water, which is water from other places that is dumped into another body of water to aid in

Hermaphrodites, or What We Call in Modern Times, Intersexuals
Hermaphrodites, or what we call in the modern times: intersexuals, are misunderstood throughout the
entire world. Often times when we hear the word intersexuals or hermaphrodites we automatically
have a negative connotation towards them. However, what most people do not realize is that
hermaphroditism is in fact very common for quite a long period of time. Records were dated back to
even the time when Plato was alive. However, the idea, or the actual concept of a third gender has
only become less and less accepting the last one to two centuries. These individuals biologically have
sexual characteristics intermediate of those typically male or female seems to medical progressives as

the medical studies for hermaphroditism and the author of the book Genital Abnormalities,
Hermaphroditism and related Adrenal Diseases , explored numerous people who were intersexuals and
discovered that the majority of them were content with their lives, and did not develop any
psychological problems or scars. A notable case would be a woman named Emma who had grown up
as a female with a vagina and a penis sized clitoris. As a teenager, Emma would have sexual
intercourses with other women but eventually she married a man. Although she had a husband, there
had not been too many sexual activities therefore Emma would have other girlfriends on the side to

As an embryo, we are created with both ovaries and testes. As we grow, either the ovaries or testes
will begin to develop further while the other will begin to degenerate (Fausto Sterling, 2000).
However, often times the one that degenerates does not diminish the entire way, therefore making
them ambiguous genitalia. Our medical community destroys our perception of hermaphrodites by
telling us that hermaphroditism is very uncommon and should be treated as soon as birth because the
victims would be psychologically damaged from bullying and being different (ISNA, 2001). In reality,

An Oral Interview With Vanna Moore Essay
Reflection Paper
On September of 2016, I did an oral interview with Vanna Moore about her military past and Vanna s
ties to Texas. Over the whole interview, I asked her questions about her experience in Afghanistan and
how it shaped her views of her state of Texas. Through her interview, Vanna touched on her feelings
about Texas, the military, American culture, and life after military. At times, she seemed comfortable
and at ease sharing her thoughts, and other moments seemed more difficult to get through. This
interview helped me to understand that military service can really shape a person s world view, both
abroad and at home. Additionally, after this oral interview experience I feel like I know how to
effectively use oral histories in my future classrooms. During the beginning of the interview I asked
Vanna What do you think the difference is between West Texas and other regions of the state? At first,
her answers consisted of a lot of umms , but after she got more comfortable, she said, So, it s kinda
like our own little world. ... The people are like, are more like small town people, they re...more like
hospitable. Vanna described West Texans as hospitable and having small town behavior. The small
town mindset, that Vanna referred to is what Hollywood has portrayed time after time. Also, in the
same response she said Well, obviously, we re nothing but oil field, mesquite trees and it s dry, and

able to experience the way in which the male characters treat the female characters of the novel.
Women in present time are able to sympathize with these women because the way in which the men

Tomo finds a mistress and sends a photograph of her to her husband. After Shirakawa approves her,
Tomo has a terrible nightmare that she kills him, and wakes up screaming. This conveys her hidden
anguish and feelings which she has to oppress for her husband s sake. The mistress, Suga, is just a
little girl who feels unhappy in possession of a stranger. During the beginning of their relationship
Shirakawa spends a lot of money on buying Suga clothes as a way of soothing her, at this time he had
not made any physical advances towards her. This gives us the impression that the men in this culture
would do anything for woman to win their hearts, than later demand things from them and expect
them to obey commands, To clothe a girl from a poor family in the most luxurious garments possible
was in itself almost certainly a means of winning Suga s heart (Enchi, 42). Tomo continues to suffer
from terrible nightmares due to her intense jealousy and upset about her husband s various escapades.
Another situation that takes place in the book would be the conflict that occurs between Miya and
Michimasa. Miya runs to Tomo who is Michimasa s mother and complains to her about what had
happened. Michimasa tried to force Miya into having sex with him and she refused to, therefore, he

Mother-Daughter Conflict Illustrated in The Joy Luck Club...
The book The Joy Luck Club is a novel written by Amy Tan, who is very famous in writing about
mother daughter relationships. There are four pairs of mothers and daughters whose stories are told in
The Joy Luck Club. All of the mothers were born in China and came to America because of some kind
of problem, but their daughters were born in the United States. Due to the fact that the daughters were
born in the United States, they are extremely Americanized. Consequently, they do not value the
Chinese heritage which their mothers valued dearly. As the daughters are growing up, this conflict
between them increases. Suyuan Woo and her daughter, June or Jing mei, two characters from the
book, had major conflicts over the Chinese belief system of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This is what Suyuan believed and lived by, whereas Jing mei believed that she is an independent
individual and is capable of making her own choices. Consequently, Jing mei believed her mother was
simply trying to push Jing mei into someone she was not, and could never be.
Another conflict that arises from Confucianism is when Jing mei was told to go back to China and tell
her half sisters about their mother. She said what will I say? What can I tell them about my mother? I
don t know anything. (Tan 31). In Confucianism, very little of tradition is explicitly told from mothers
to daughters in the form of text. Ritual actions are supposed to be observed, absorbed and understood
in order to be preserved and handed down for posterity. But Jing mei, who grew up in America, did
not have a sense of following the tradition her mother brought to America, or rather considered the
Chinese tradition to be eccentric.
Suyuan had left twin daughters in China when she was fleeing from the Japanese army during the war.
They were mentioned many times in the book, but we never knew what happened to them until the
very end of the novel. During times of conflict with her mother, Jing mei would bring up what might
have happened with the twin sisters death. I wish I were dead! Like them! (Tan 153). However, in the
Chinese culture and according to how Suyuan lived, it is taboo to mention the death of anyone,

Manetho s Legitimacy Of Thutmose III
The understanding of Egyptian history has been greatly influenced by the work of Manetho, a
historian and priest who lived in Egypt around 300 BC who organized the country s history. He
created 30 Dynasties to divide history under the ruling pharaohs and their related royal families. The
most influential and important period of Egyptian history is labeled the New Kingdom, covering the
18th, 19th, and 20th Dynasty. During this time Egypt expanded and reached its highest point as an
empire under the rule of the great Thutmose III. Thutmose III was able to expand Egypt s prominence
through the use of administration and governance as king. This was supported by his new strategy for

Reflection About Geography
Every other year, my high school offers a College in the Schools (CIS) geography course. In this
course, there is one assignment that all the upperclassmen would always complain about. As an
underclassman, I had dreaded the year that I was going to be receiving this assignment due to having a
tendency to save my projects for last minute. I will never forget the map that taught me that
procrastination makes the process of completing assignments more difficult, especially on a project
that is for a college class.
In the beginning of November 2016, my junior year, our college geography class received our quarter
project: a map of the world. Our teacher, Mr.Sharstrom, assigned our class a large number of physical
features that our maps needed to include such as rivers, lakes, islands, mountain ranges, seas, oceans,
and deserts. Mr.Sharstrom required us to include all seven continents and a key that showed
distinctions in the different physical features of the world. The maps needed to be to scale and show a
minimum amount of distortion as possible. When we received our project, our geography teacher
warned us, This project will be time consuming and you will not want to wait until the week before to
start your maps.
After communicating expectations with the class, a majority of my classmates began to work on their
maps. I knew that my family was traveling to Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, for Thanksgiving break, so
I wanted to attempt to complete as much of the map as possible

The Dilemma of Macular Degeneration Essay
The Dilemma of Macular Degeneration
According to Baily and Hall, while visual impairment early in life is associated with inherited
congenital disorders, abnormal fetal devepment, and problems associated with premature birth, most
eye conditions are associated with aging. They claim that over 70% of the visually impaired
population in the United States is over 65. Age related maculopathy, also called macular degeneration,
or AMD, impairs the center of vision in older individuals. The macula is the region in the back of the
retina that surrounds and includes the fovea (Goldstein 1999). It is important to understand that when
this degeneration progresses enough, the condition constitutes blindness because the foveal area is

Danger can exist for victims of the condition when simply walking down the street or even through
their own homes. While there is yet no cure for macular degeneration the research is in progress. Two
main areas of research include investigating the causes and exploring potential treatments.
According to Friedman, progress in the effort to stop or prevent AMD will be slow until the cause is
learned. He claims retinal pigmant epithelium damage to be the prominant theory explaining the
choroidal circulation changes that lead to AMD. Although Friedmal himself does not subscribe to this
theory, other researchers do and use it as a basis for study. Grunwald, Harisprasad, Dupont, M. G.
Mguire, Fine, Bruker, A.M. Maguire, and Ho compared choroidal blood flow in subjects with AMD to
a control group. They used laser doppler flowmetry to asess the volume, velocity, and flow of blood in
the center of the fovea. Ten subjects with no drusen (cellular debris) were compared to 20 subjects
with ten or more large drusen. The average visual acuities of the two groups was very close. No
significant differences between age, blood pressure, or intraocular pressure was revealed between the
subjects. Spraul, G. E. Lang, Grossnik laus, and G. K. Lang questioned the validity of the study. They
claim doppler flowmetry to be an imperfect method for such a study because of multiple light
scattering properties of the tissue. They also

Yeats s poetry is addressed to her. Yeats associated her with Helen of Troy, whose capriciousness led
to the destruction of a civilization. In 1986 Yeats became friends with Lady Isabella Augusta Gregory,
a nationalist playwright. Together Yeats and Lady Gregory helped to found the Abbey Theater. As the
director and dramatist Yeats helped to turn it into a leading theatrical company of the world and a
center of the Irish Renaissance. Near the Turn of the century Yeats fought to abandon his old style of
writing, at this time his writing became less mystical and symbolic and it became clearer. Yeats
eventually got married in 1917, at the age of 52. His wife was Georgie Hyde Lees, while on their
honeymoon she discovered that she had mediumistic abilities. Through automatic writing she could
communicate with a visionary realm. In Yeats s later years he became more involved in politics. From

Benefits Of Long Distance Runners
When I think of Kenya, I think of long distance runners, I think of the beginning of man, I think of its
plethora of wildlife, and I think of Barack Obama. What I have never contemplated was Kenya s
agriculture and how it has affected the culture and economics of Kenya. Tea, coffee, sisal, pyrethrum,
corn, and wheat are grown in the fertile highlands, one of the most successful agricultural production
regions in Africa. Production is mainly on small African owned farms formed from the division of
formerly European owned estates. Coffee in Kenya is big business, but it is grown mainly on small
farms by coops of farmers working together. Looking into Kenya s past will help to clarify how coffee
became an agricultural commodity, and give insight into its beginnings. Before outsiders came into
Africa, the country now known as Kenya was a nomadic area inhabited by Cushite people. It was not
until the first century B.C. that Arabic people came to the area as traders. They soon began to colonize
areas along the coast of the Indian Ocean. Also in the first century the Bantu began to settle areas
inland from the coast. It took the Europeans over fourteen hundred more years to make their way to
Kenya. Kenya was now under the rule of the Portuguese. In the sixteen hundreds Kenya came under
Islamic rule, until the nineteenth century when it became a British colony. It is in the 19th century that
an eastern area of Africa becomes Kenya. In 1888 Kenya come

Empedocles Cosmology
Empedocles s theory of cosmology is kind of like the theory we have about how the universe was first
started which is the big bang theory but Empedocles had different names for it. Empedocles had two
fundamental forces he called love and strife. Love being the force that pulled people together and
strife being the forces the pushed people away. Empedocles basically said that before the universe
everything was pulled together by love and eventually it exploded with strife releasing all the stars and
galaxies. This theory is much like the big bang theory, which states that there was first nothing and
then a big bang happened and everything was created. Next Empedocles thinks everything is made up
of four elements. These elements being water,

his position to make money illegally. Extortion, fraud, bribery, conspiracy are among the crimes that

Teen Drinking Is The Biggest Social Issues Among Young...
Teenage drinking is one of the largest social issues among young people today. Although about half of
high schools today drink on a regular basis. (CDC) Most of them will say they only drink when they
are at parties with their friends. If they started drinking at the age of fifteen there is a six percent
chance that they will depend on alcohol when they get older. There are so many different problems
with teen drinking that I can talk about. The big one I want to talk about is when teens drive when
drinking. Ways to try and stop teen drinking is maybe by bring back Dare or have SADD in schools
again. The CDC reports that about ten percent of teens in 2013 have drove after drinking alcohol.
They even reported that twenty two percent have ridden with a driver who had been drinking alcohol.
Having shown these stats will make this even more probable that car crashes are the leading cause of
death for teens, and about a quarter of those crashes involve an underage teen that was drinking and
driving. Any teen that gets in a car after drinking puts more than just their self at risk of getting injured
or even worse dying. As a teenager myself, I know how hard it is to say no to someone that has been
drinking when they want to drive. I have been in the spot more then once. When someone is in a car
crash after drinking alcohol their blood alcohol concentration (BAC) is 0.08% or higher. Knowing this
there is a 1 in 5 teens that are involved in a fatal crash

The bystander effect, or the person standing on the side, is a social mental phenomenon that refers to

words, the more bystanders that are their, the less likely it is that any one of them will help. They may

Better Than Raising The Minimum Wage Analysis
Around 15% of American citizens live below the poverty line today, and many believe that raising the
minimum wage will lower this number. On May 21, 2015, The Wall Street Journal published an article
by Warren Buffett, Better Than Raising the Minimum Wage. Buffett writes about a cost effective way
for Americans to receive a steadier income other than raising the minimum wage. He highlights that
the everyday worker with no special skills often finds it hard to be successful. The way Buffett
proposes to fix this issue is to develop the Earned Income Tax Credit or Tax returns. Buffett used a lot
of fact based arguments and appealed to ethos, but it could not make up for the lack of pathos and a
strong argument in this article.
This piece does ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His main argument in this article is that the government should not raise the minimum wage, but
instead, should expand on the Earned Income Tax Credit. He believes that instead of one, yearly
payment, the government could do monthly payments. Buffett also believes that this will deter people
from taking out unnecessary loans while they are waiting for their tax returns to come through. While
this is all a great idea, he has some issues with how he presents the information. He does not talk
about any of this until the last four or five paragraphs, and there are upwards of 20 paragraphs in this
article. He spends a lot of time making a strong point, without even mentioning his actual argument
until the very end. And while he does do a good job at explaining his solution, he never tells the reader
how to fix the problem. The people reading The Wall Street Journal are business people or people who
are interested in the economy. Buffett wrote this article for those who have the power to make this
change, possibly politicians, but he does not tell them how to make his plan play out. This is really
where Buffett starts to lose his rhetoric strength, and he also struggles with the pathos part of the piece

Essay On Knights Vs Samurai
Knights vs Samurai essay
From researching about knights and samurai, I believe that in a battle between a knight and samurai,
the knight would have a greater chance in winning. This is because knights focused more on fighting
techniques and how to improve them, rather than focusing on spiritual beliefs and traditions as well,
which is what the samurai did. The knights also had very strong and good armour which helped a lot
in battles, while the samurai s armour changed a lot but wasn t ever as effective as the knight s armour.
The knight s weapons were also more advanced and better then the samurai weapons.
In my first reason, I believe that a knight would win against a samurai because a knight focused more
on training and fighting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My second reason is that the knights had very strong and effective armour, whereas the samurai s
armour was always changing and was never as good as the knight s armour, as samurai depended
more on their fighting skills instead of the armour. The samurai armour was made up of several
sections. The main body is called a do or cuirass, and is made from plates or lamellae (small oblong
shaped pieces of steel linked by strips of leather and covered with layers of lacquer). The helmet has a
crest and a hair pommel. There is also a face mask, which would have been decorated with ugly
features intended to scare the enemy. Extra protection is provided by a coverage of the neck (made of
jointed metal) and shoulder guards (made from small plates laced together, with silk allowing
movement). Thigh and calf guards are made from a combination of chain mail and plates. Underneath
the samurai s armour, the samurai would wear a one piece baggy garment with a special kimono (the
kimono looks a bit like a dressing gown). This did mean that the samurai would be more likely to get
injured, as the armour would only offer very little protection. Samurai armour was designed to help
the Samurai move comfortably and efficiently when fighting, so if a knight stabbed the samurai then
the samurai would get injured and this would affect the samurai while he is fighting (the samurai
would be fighting worse), and possible depending on how bad the wound is, it could kill the

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Telescope
The refractor telescope has many advantages and disadvantages. One of the disadvantages is that the
lenses are made of glasses therefore it has to be perfect with no air bubbles or scratches in the glass as
this will impair the users viewing. Another disadvantage is that lense are weakest around the edges
because they are thinnest there and that is the only place they are being supported by the telescope so
this can lead to easy breakage. The lense can have colour distortion which means when white light
goes through the lense it is split into colours. Since violet right is refracted more than red, the violet is
brought to a focus clearer and this will make the image coloured and blurred, this is called chromatic
aberration. Some advantages ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The light enters through the objective lense and meets at a focal point. That is then magnified through
an eyepiece where we see the image. The effects of light passing through lenses are different
depending on which lense it is passed through. Double convex lenses works by refracting light rays
that are travelling parallel to the principal axis towards the normal surface. When it hits the boundary
the light is passing to a more dense medium which is usually glass or plastic. Since the light rays are
passing from a medium that it travels fast in to a medium that they travel slow in, it will bend towards
the normal line. Which is shown on this diagram. An image is formed in a refracting telescope because
the first lense (objective lense) is convex and when the light travels through the lense because the
surface is transparent the light travels through the lense and meets a focal point on the other side to
create an image that is real, magnified(compared to when viewing with the naked eye) and inverted
because the image is formed by real rays that refract and go through the lense instead of reflecting like
a mirror. For example if an astronomer is looking at the moon through a refractor telescope the image
he will see is real but smaller. The eyepiece lense is also inverted (convex) because this allows the
image to be inverted again so it is the right way up for our eyes to see. This formula lets us find the
distance of image1/f=1/do+1/di. An example of using this formula is if a 4 cm object is placed 12 cm
in front with a focal length of 8cm. 1/f=1/do+1/di, ⅛=1/12+1/di, ⅛ 1/12 =1/di, 1/24=1/di, di = 24 this
equation allows us to find the distance of

The Influence Of The American Soldiers During World War II
Who would have ever thought a small amount of rice with raw fish on top of it would become so
popular across the world? Sushi s fame jumped an ocean across and became popular in the USA.
Many factors contributed to its popularization and has helped make its place in the American cuisine.
As time passed by, the simple creations of sushi evolved to complicated combinations and eye
catching presentations today. This change was welcomed because it gave a new perspective of the
dish, giving it a new face.
One of the factors that made sushi popular was the influence of the American soldiers. After World
War II (WWII), American soldiers who were led by General Douglas MacArthur occupied Japan.
During the war, sushi shops were forced to close due to rationing. There were not enough rice to
reopen the shops after the war. The American forces created a program where people would be the
ones to bring their own rice to the shop if they wanted sushi. The sushi chef would then use the rice
brought by the customers to make sushi for them. This allowed for the shops to reopen and function.
This popularized sushi outside of Tokyo (sushi was mainly sold in the city). One can say, sushi was
saved by the American forces. If the American forces had not stepped in and created the program to
help revive the sushi shops, no doubt would there be sushi shops open today. Sushi would not have
had the chance to spread outside of Tokyo.
Another factor is The Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923. This was a

Compare And Contrast Roosevelt And Woodrow Wilson
Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson were both innovative, progressive presidents. Many of their
policies were similar, focusing on reform, destruction of monopolies and trusts, and improving
conditions of the common American through policy change in Washington. However, both presidents
are remembered in different lights and for vastly different reasons.
Theodore Roosevelt unquestionably had the bigger positive impact on American idealism, as he is
commemorated on Mount Rushmore and considered one of the five great American presidents.
Roosevelt was the naturalist responsible for our national parks, but his policies on military and war
were contradictory to the sensitivities he displayed toward nature. Roosevelt led the Rough Riders in
the Spanish American War, and led the country similarly. Believing in the nationalist sentiment of
creating a sense of pride in American conquest, Roosevelt campaigned for the annexation of Hawaii,
took control of Cuba, and instituted his policy of speak softly, but carry a big stick to strong arm his

presidency. Wilson, like Roosevelt, was a progressive reformer, instituting federal institutes, such as

war and conquest. Wilson was slow to enter The Great War, and only did so to preserve American life
when Germany began targeting passenger ships carrying American citizens. When America entered
the war and helped a achieve a quick, decisive victory for the Allies, he was hailed overseas as the
hero from the West. His creation of The League of Nations, which was shot down by the Senate

The Abiding Presence Of God In The Gospel Of Matthew
The Gospel of Matthew is an ancient biography. It discusses the generation of Jesus, worshipping his
life and referring to his teachings as the good news. This Gospel summons readers to seek God s
Kingdom, to follow Jesus so that they can experience wonderful things, and to act on His words,
understand them and teach others like He taught us. The Gospel of Matthew consists of eight themes:
The Abiding Presence of God, Jesus as the Son of God, The Teaching of Jesus, Discipleship,
Interpretation and Scripture, Binding and Loosing, Worship and Doubt, Faith and Understanding, and
Hostility Towards Jewish Leaders. God is omnipresent, meaning that he is in attendance everywhere at
the same time. Matthew s Gospel exhibits interest in the ways that God is present on Earth. The
Gospel of Matthew answers the question, Where is God? , usually asked by many struggling believers
or by those who are generally curious. The answer that Matthew provides is divided into three
presentations. The first being that God is present in Jesus, meaning that when Jesus was brought into
this world, He had opened up a passage so that God can fully enter our world and actually be with us .
In fact, the main point of this theme is that Matthew accepts those who worship Jesus and deems it
appropriate because, in a sense, worshiping Jesus counts as worshiping God, who is present in Jesus.
This point was proposed for the people who lived before Jesus crucifixion. However, after Easter, the
question then

Summary Of A Wall Of Fire Rising
Life can be a beautiful thing, or in this case of the short story A Wall of Fire Rising, by Edwidge
Danticat, life is an unpleasant thing. One of the main characters, Guy, is struggling to enjoy his life
due to living as a low economy family in the post colonial Haitian era. Such a life can cause one to
become crazy when seeing an opportunity to escape, but continuously being unable to reach it. Being
out of reach of his escape plan and left with no other option, Guy, places little value in life and
continuously thinks about hope for a better life. His aggressive characteristic traits are not an
expression of a strange personality, but rather a reaction to feeling broken. Trapped by his economic
status, Guy is out of reach of any opportunities to better his family s life. Because of this, he learned to
accept that being a permanent worker at the sugar mill would never happen. Growing older, he knows
he wants better for his son s life, but must keep up with the normal life his family belongs to. Many
years ago, it was determined that the men of a specific decent were the only ones allowed to work at
the mill. The Haitians of Lebanese, the sugar mill owners, were the workers because they had been in
the country for generations. As the narrator explains, The jobs at the sugar mill were few and far
between. The people who had them never left, or when they did they would pass the job on to another
family member who was already waiting on line (Danticat 97 99). Since Guy was viewed as a lower
class to the community, he worried about his son s future, but his wife tried to overlook the thought of
her son living like Guy. Multiple times, Guy tried to tell his wife about his escape plan to a better life,
but she blew it off each and every time. Due to the setting being post colonial, Guy never experienced
a great life. After his multiple walks to watch the state sponsored news with his wife and son, he

Personal Statement For The Support Group
Introduction For the support group that I led we planned on having it be focused around testimonies. I
wanted for us each to be able to get to know one another on a deeper level than we had, specifically
spiritually. I thought that doing five minute testimonies was a good way to be able to get to know one
another better while still not making everyone divulge all of their life to people they are still getting to
know and learning to trust. With the testimonies theme, I wanted my icebreaker to lead into the
importance of listening to our client s stories and using our story as a platform for Christ. For my
ending activity I wanted to lead into next support groups topic which we had decided would be about
our current walk with the Lord.
Group goals
At our first support group we decided that our goals would stay the same each week. Our primary goal
was to practice group facilitation and group participation. Our sub goals were to support one another
and get to know one another. We began our first support group with not really supporting one another
because there was no need for it; however, the second support group we supported one another as we
shared about our families. The third support group also got deeper in supporting one another as we
talked about our high school experiences. The fourth group I felt that we did not exercise the sub goal
to support one another because it was more educational than supportive.
I was nervous going after we talked about stress because it

The Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood By John Everett Millais
The Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood was founded by John Everett Millais, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, and
William Holman Hunt who were students at the Royal Academy. Millais, Rossetti, and Hunt were
dissatisfied with the academy teaching students to mimic renaissance masters like Raphael, and sought
to create art reminiscent of the medieval period. In addition for their distaste for renaissance perfection
in art the Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood were inspired by the theories of writer and art critic, John
Ruskin. Ruskin encouraged artist to go back to nature, as well as show moral and material truth in
their art via the use of symbols and more naturalistic depictions of nature (Harrison, Wood and Gaiger,
200). The Brotherhood at its inception strove to transmit a message of artistic renewal and moral
reform by imbuing their art with seriousness, sincerity, and truth to nature. (Meagher) From Millais I
will focus on one of his more famous paintings Ophelia, followed by Rossetti s Proserpine, and Hunt s
Awakening Conscience.
John Everett Millais Ophelia painted in 1851 is a depiction of noble woman Ophelia from
Shakespeare s Hamlet. Ophelia s story is tragic as she loses the favour of price Hamlet who then goes
on to kill Ophelia s father. Ophelia is driven mad by these event and is found dead in a brook, the
scene depicted in Millais painting. True to the Pre Raphaelites and Ruskin s ideology the background
was painted from observation with great care and detail. Perhaps the most

Relationship Between Stress, Anxiety and Phobias
Discuss the relationship between stress, anxiety, habits and phobias and describe how you would treat
these issues with hypnotherapy In order to understand the relationship between stress, anxiety, habits
and phobias, it is necessary to first define what each one is and how it might affect individuals. Stress
could be defined as a normal physiological response by the body to situations or stimuli which the
brain perceives as dangerous or threatening to the body. The body is a complex system and over time
developed a way of responding that was designed to keep us safe. Our subconscious mind is alert for
anything that might threaten our well being and when the brain perceives a threat a physiological
response occurs that prepares us ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anxiety is therefore closely tied in with stress as a response to a perceived threat. Anxiety is
something everyone experiences from time to time; perhaps before a job interview, hospital operation
or whilst waiting for very important news. Anxiety is related to the stress response of fight or flight .
Whilst this response is useful for protection against physical dangers, it s not likely to be useful where
the perceived threat relates to something such as a driving test or a public speaking engagement other
than to makes us try to avoid the situation. Anxiety can be triggered by a number of factors. A past
experience that we found unpleasant or associate with uncomfortable feelings, may create anxiety
about it happening again in the future. We also learn ways of responding to stresses from our parents
and due to the environment we grew up in. Signs and symptoms of anxiety include for example,
churning stomach, muscle tension, headaches, palpitations, sweating, heightened alertness, inability to
relax and irritability. According to Mind , the mental health charity, long term anxiety is bad for
health, weakening the immune system, lowering resistance to infection and increasing the risk of
serious health

and share ideas. Manners are taught in the table where girls are referred as women and boys refer as
men. The poem describes many fights, births and death shared in the table; this describes how people

seen as a place where people come together to solve problems. The white guest shared the meal in the

The Importance Of Selfless Service
When one sees the word selfless service, he or she literally sees the words self and less, followed by
service. Self refers to an individual (in this case, it refers to one s own interests) and less indicates a
lack of, or without. Service can be a synonym of the word volunteering or duty. Therefore, the term
selfless service must literally mean the lack of the pursuit of one s own interests for the betterment of
others. There is no measurement of selfless service. No matter what the scenario or who is involved,
everyone who is involved benefits from one s selfless acts. The one who shows selflessness may
benefit by receiving a thank you, or even just a good feeling of helping others. Of course, the ones
who receive the selfless acts benefit from obvious reasons. Selfless service can be shown by anyone
and everyone, including a soldier putting his/her life on the line to save a fallen comrade, a husband
and father protecting and spending time with his wife and children, someone donating his/her time by
volunteering as a tutor or with the American Red Cross or some other goodwill charity, and the
teamwork of two or more athletes. Those four examples provide different scales in which selfless
service can be displayed. Selfless service can be displayed in regards to one s nation/military, one s
family, one s community, and any team sport.
The U.S. Army s definition of selfless service is to put the welfare of the nation, the Army, and your
subordinates before your own

Essay on The Demise of Pompeii
Pompeii, a Roman city with a population of about 20,000, was annihilated by Mount Vesuvius on
August 26, 79 AD. It wasn t until 1595, when artifacts from Pompeii were excavated. Centuries of
raiding and looting then followed. In the mid nineteenth century, archaeological excavations began,
revealing to the modern world the way the people lived (and died) in 79 A.D. The eruption of Mount
Vesuvius was, in fact, the downfall of the ancient city, Pompeii, but people today still wonder how it
all happened, and how it all began.
Pompeii was established in the 6th century, B.C. By the 1st century A.D., Pompeii was rebelling with
other Italian towns against the Roman Regime. They were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, 62 A.D. marks the date of a very large precursor earthquake. Because earthquakes happen so
frequently, there are, consequently, related volcanic eruptions. Mount Vesuvius is a composite
volcano. This type of volcano has many layers of lava and ash. There are two kinds of eruptions. A
composite volcano like Vesuvius will erupt with two kinds of eruptions, but never at the same time.
One eruption type contains mostly cinders and ash, and the other type of eruption contains mostly
lava. Mount Vesuvius has erupted more than 50 times since 79 A.D., alternating its eruption types. The
first time when lava was recorded was many years after the destruction of Pompeii. .
The main cause of death was suffocation in this town, most likely from the toxic fumes being emitted
from the volcano. Because the eruption was only ashes and fumes, people probably struggled in
darkness for hours before finally dying. Many wonder why so many people died if they had time to
flee, but we must remember that the inhabitants did not know that Vesuvius was a volcano, causing
them to flee to their houses, instead of further away from the scene. About ten feet of ash and rock fell
onto Pompeii, and about 75 feet of ash fell on its neighboring city, Herculaneum. After Pompeii was
excavated in the nineteenth century, it was revealed that There [were] numerous molds of people in
their final moments. The

  • 2. Grapes Of Wrath By John Ford Acceptance Humans always want to find a place where they can be assimilated. Humans want to live in a community that they can assimilate into comfortably and can feel safe in easily. Grapes of Wrath, directed by John Ford, which portrays the story of capitalist and environmental forces pushing a poor family off their land and their migration to California. The family tries to look for a place where they can secure jobs and food to support themselves daily. Similarly, the El Norte, directed by Gregory Nava, is about a brother and a sister who have to escape from their government in their village to the USA. Both Grapes of Wrath and El Norte argue that humans are not accepted unless they are welcomed, able to survive, and allowed to stay there. In Grapes of Wrath, Joad s family is not welcomed in the environment or the company. When Tom Joad is on the way home, the destructed family s house scene illustrates that the environment does not welcome them to live there. In the image, some dead trees have dried out on the sandy ground. Darkness covers the whole view of this scene with the sound of the wind howling. The wind carries a lot of sand, showing that this place is solitary, and that nature has moved on from the land. They cannot plant or harvest fruit from the trees or crops on their land. In addition, as if being on useless land was not bad enough, the Shawnee Land and Cattle Company who owned the lands forced them off. The scene with many caterpillar tractors with engines ... • 4. Literary Explication Of Shakespeare s Sonnet 130 Literary Explication When thinking of a love poem, one thinks of a cliché description of the speaker s lover or maybe is an imaginative portrayal of love in a general sense. Love poems always have an exaggerating characteristic when describing something or someone. Sonnet 130 by William Shakespeare, is a parody of love poetry; love is not always like it is illustrated in others contemporaries poems. The author of this sonnet uses the traditional English sonnet form, containing fourteen lines, written in iambic pentameter, and has an ABABCDCDEFEFGG rhyme scheme. The sonnet s form is part of the parody because usually love sonnets writers use traditional sonnet forms, an example for this is Francesco Petrarch that is well known for his love sonnets written in Italian sonnet form. Shakespeare makes the contradiction between a traditional sonnet form and a non traditional content of the sonnet. The content of this sonnet, a decretory description of the speaker s lover, is very opposite to a traditional love poem s content. In the first three quatrains of Sonnet 130 , the speaker compares his mistress with various thing and tells us how she doesn t measures up to them. In the last couplet the speaker changes ... Love poets seem to obsess with woman s appearances, but Shakespeare mange to poke on that obsession, making this poem kind of a wakeup call on our image of beauty. By turning the theme he goes from the person who he is mocking other poets to the poet he has mocked all along. This couplet also sends the message that even in a poem where he is mocking other poets he need to express his true feeling about his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Why Does Shintoism Need To Compete With Christianity Shintoism is an ancient religion that predominates modern japan but it has undergone many changes to compete with many foreign religions such as Christianity. Does Shintoism need to conform to compete with Christianity better yet does it really need to compete with other religions anyway? The main sentiment that comes with foreign religions is to explain the creation of the universe usually depicting a divine being or god while Shintoism mainly tries to empower the mysteries of the universe rather than to explain them. Shintoism also through the most part lacks a holy book since most of the practices and ideas where spread through story tellers this causes an issue since foreign countries have to explain Shintoism on their own which make it look barbaric in comparison. The early history of Shintoism may shed some light on this argument to understand some of the reason for the Shinto conformation. At around 300 B.C.E the Japanese people where set up in small clans named Uji and each clan where unique from each other since they developed independently due to the mountains such as Fuji (Kasulis, 75). Each Uji believed in a a spirit that protected the clan known as a Ujigami which was the predecessor for the modern day kami that many foreign individuals see as ... • 9. Taking a Look at Eurasian Milfoil Invasive species are organisms that harm a new environment that they are not native to. Many invasive species like Eurasian milfoil are easily able to reproduce and can do so fast. Due to this, the limited space in a body of water or area of land is quickly taken over by the invasive species so other native plants face the risk of death or even extinction. Overall, these invasive species can do great harm to an ecosystem or an economy, causing problems that are destructive to numerous organisms. Eurasian milfoil or Myriophyllum spicatum is an aquatic invasive plant that can be found throughout the Chicagoland area and in surrounding bodies of water. This plant can be a hinderance to swimming, boating, and fishing because of their thick, tangled stems and mats of vegetation. According to the Minnesota Sea Grant, Eurasian milfoil also overcrowd a body of water which leaves little room for the plants native to the Great Lakes. One prediction is that if the Eurasian milfoil is not stopped, a reduction of biodiversity may result in Chicago and the areas surrounding it. If this was to occur, the ecosystems of the Midwest region would be significantly impacted in a negative way. As reported by the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture), Eurasian milfoil, which is native to Europe, Asia, and Northern Africa, was most likely accidentally introduced to the United States through ballast water, which is water from other places that is dumped into another body of water to aid in ... Often times when we hear the word intersexuals or hermaphrodites we automatically have a negative connotation towards them. However, what most people do not realize is that hermaphroditism is in fact very common for quite a long period of time. Records were dated back to even the time when Plato was alive. While in the late 1800s and early 1900s, Dr. Hugh H Young of Johns Hopkins University, the father of the medical studies for hermaphroditism and the author of the book Genital Abnormalities, Hermaphroditism and related Adrenal Diseases , explored numerous people who were intersexuals and discovered that the majority of them were content with their lives, and did not develop any psychological problems or scars. A notable case would be a woman named Emma who had grown up as a female with a vagina and a penis sized clitoris. As a teenager, Emma would have sexual intercourses with other women but eventually she married a man. Although she had a husband, there had not been too many sexual activities therefore Emma would have other girlfriends on the side to fulfill her pleasures. As an embryo, we are created with both ovaries and testes. As we grow, either the ovaries or testes will begin to develop further while the other will begin to degenerate (Fausto Sterling, 2000). However, often times the one that degenerates does not diminish the entire way, therefore making them ambiguous genitalia. Our medical community destroys our perception of hermaphrodites by telling us that hermaphroditism is very uncommon and should be treated as soon as birth because the victims would be psychologically damaged from bullying and being different (ISNA, 2001). • 11. An Oral Interview With Vanna Moore Essay Reflection Paper On September of 2016, I did an oral interview with Vanna Moore about her military past and Vanna s ties to Texas. Over the whole interview, I asked her questions about her experience in Afghanistan and how it shaped her views of her state of Texas. Through her interview, Vanna touched on her feelings about Texas, the military, American culture, and life after military. At times, she seemed comfortable and at ease sharing her thoughts, and other moments seemed more difficult to get through. This interview helped me to understand that military service can really shape a person s world view, both abroad and at home. Additionally, after this oral interview experience I feel like I know how to effectively use oral histories in my future classrooms. During the beginning of the interview I asked Vanna What do you think the difference is between West Texas and other regions of the state? At first, her answers consisted of a lot of umms , but after she got more comfortable, she said, So, it s kinda like our own little world. ... There are four pairs of mothers and daughters whose stories are told in The Joy Luck Club. All of the mothers were born in China and came to America because of some kind of problem, but their daughters were born in the United States. Due to the fact that the daughters were born in the United States, they are extremely Americanized. Consequently, they do not value the Chinese heritage which their mothers valued dearly. This is what Suyuan believed and lived by, whereas Jing mei believed that she is an independent individual and is capable of making her own choices. Consequently, Jing mei believed her mother was simply trying to push Jing mei into someone she was not, and could never be. Another conflict that arises from Confucianism is when Jing mei was told to go back to China and tell her half sisters about their mother. She said what will I say? What can I tell them about my mother? I don t know anything. (Tan 31). In Confucianism, very little of tradition is explicitly told from mothers to daughters in the form of text. Ritual actions are supposed to be observed, absorbed and understood in order to be preserved and handed down for posterity. But Jing mei, who grew up in America, did not have a sense of following the tradition her mother brought to America, or rather considered the Chinese tradition to be eccentric. Suyuan had left twin daughters in China when she was fleeing from the Japanese army during the war. They were mentioned many times in the book, but we never knew what happened to them until the very end of the novel. During times of conflict with her mother, Jing mei would bring up what might have happened with the twin sisters death. I wish I were dead! Like them! (Tan 153). • 16. Reflection About Geography Every other year, my high school offers a College in the Schools (CIS) geography course. In this course, there is one assignment that all the upperclassmen would always complain about. As an underclassman, I had dreaded the year that I was going to be receiving this assignment due to having a tendency to save my projects for last minute. I will never forget the map that taught me that procrastination makes the process of completing assignments more difficult, especially on a project that is for a college class. In the beginning of November 2016, my junior year, our college geography class received our quarter project: a map of the world. Our teacher, Mr.Sharstrom, assigned our class a large number of physical features that our maps needed to include such as rivers, lakes, islands, mountain ranges, seas, oceans, and deserts. Mr.Sharstrom required us to include all seven continents and a key that showed distinctions in the different physical features of the world. The maps needed to be to scale and show a minimum amount of distortion as possible. When we received our project, our geography teacher warned us, This project will be time consuming and you will not want to wait until the week before to start your maps. • 20. The Dilemma of Macular Degeneration Essay The Dilemma of Macular Degeneration According to Baily and Hall, while visual impairment early in life is associated with inherited congenital disorders, abnormal fetal devepment, and problems associated with premature birth, most eye conditions are associated with aging. They claim that over 70% of the visually impaired population in the United States is over 65. Age related maculopathy, also called macular degeneration, or AMD, impairs the center of vision in older individuals. The macula is the region in the back of the retina that surrounds and includes the fovea (Goldstein 1999). Danger can exist for victims of the condition when simply walking down the street or even through their own homes. While there is yet no cure for macular degeneration the research is in progress. Two main areas of research include investigating the causes and exploring potential treatments. According to Friedman, progress in the effort to stop or prevent AMD will be slow until the cause is learned. He claims retinal pigmant epithelium damage to be the prominant theory explaining the choroidal circulation changes that lead to AMD. Although Friedmal himself does not subscribe to this theory, other researchers do and use it as a basis for study. Grunwald, Harisprasad, Dupont, M. G. Mguire, Fine, Bruker, A.M. Maguire, and Ho compared choroidal blood flow in subjects with AMD to a control group. They used laser doppler flowmetry to asess the volume, velocity, and flow of blood in the center of the fovea. Ten subjects with no drusen (cellular debris) were compared to 20 subjects with ten or more large drusen. The average visual acuities of the two groups was very close. No significant differences between age, blood pressure, or intraocular pressure was revealed between the subjects. Spraul, G. E. Lang, Grossnik laus, and G. K. Lang questioned the validity of the study. They claim doppler flowmetry to be an imperfect method for such a study because of multiple light scattering properties of the tissue. They also ... Throughout his schooling he was considered disappointing student, his studies were inconsistent, he was prone to day dreaming, and poor at sports. Yeats associated her with Helen of Troy, whose capriciousness led to the destruction of a civilization. In 1986 Yeats became friends with Lady Isabella Augusta Gregory, a nationalist playwright. Together Yeats and Lady Gregory helped to found the Abbey Theater. As the director and dramatist Yeats helped to turn it into a leading theatrical company of the world and a center of the Irish Renaissance. Near the Turn of the century Yeats fought to abandon his old style of writing, at this time his writing became less mystical and symbolic and it became clearer. Yeats eventually got married in 1917, at the age of 52. His wife was Georgie Hyde Lees, while on their honeymoon she discovered that she had mediumistic abilities. What I have never contemplated was Kenya s agriculture and how it has affected the culture and economics of Kenya. Tea, coffee, sisal, pyrethrum, corn, and wheat are grown in the fertile highlands, one of the most successful agricultural production regions in Africa. Production is mainly on small African owned farms formed from the division of formerly European owned estates. Coffee in Kenya is big business, but it is grown mainly on small farms by coops of farmers working together. Looking into Kenya s past will help to clarify how coffee became an agricultural commodity, and give insight into its beginnings. Before outsiders came into Africa, the country now known as Kenya was a nomadic area inhabited by Cushite people. It was not until the first century B.C. that Arabic people came to the area as traders. They soon began to colonize areas along the coast of the Indian Ocean. Also in the first century the Bantu began to settle areas inland from the coast. It took the Europeans over fourteen hundred more years to make their way to Kenya. Kenya was now under the rule of the Portuguese. In the sixteen hundreds Kenya came under Islamic rule, until the nineteenth century when it became a British colony. If they started drinking at the age of fifteen there is a six percent chance that they will depend on alcohol when they get older. There are so many different problems with teen drinking that I can talk about. The big one I want to talk about is when teens drive when drinking. Ways to try and stop teen drinking is maybe by bring back Dare or have SADD in schools again. The CDC reports that about ten percent of teens in 2013 have drove after drinking alcohol. They even reported that twenty two percent have ridden with a driver who had been drinking alcohol. Having shown these stats will make this even more probable that car crashes are the leading cause of death for teens, and about a quarter of those crashes involve an underage teen that was drinking and driving. Any teen that gets in a car after drinking puts more than just their self at risk of getting injured or even worse dying. Essay On Knights Vs Samurai Knights vs Samurai essay From researching about knights and samurai, I believe that in a battle between a knight and samurai, the knight would have a greater chance in winning. The knights also had very strong and good armour which helped a lot in battles, while the samurai s armour changed a lot but wasn t ever as effective as the knight s armour. My second reason is that the knights had very strong and effective armour, whereas the samurai s armour was always changing and was never as good as the knight s armour, as samurai depended more on their fighting skills instead of the armour. The samurai armour was made up of several sections. The main body is called a do or cuirass, and is made from plates or lamellae (small oblong shaped pieces of steel linked by strips of leather and covered with layers of lacquer). The helmet has a crest and a hair pommel. There is also a face mask, which would have been decorated with ugly features intended to scare the enemy. Extra protection is provided by a coverage of the neck (made of jointed metal) and shoulder guards (made from small plates laced together, with silk allowing movement). Thigh and calf guards are made from a combination of chain mail and plates. Underneath the samurai s armour, the samurai would wear a one piece baggy garment with a special kimono (the kimono looks a bit like a dressing gown). This did mean that the samurai would be more likely to get injured, as the armour would only offer very little protection. Samurai armour was designed to help the Samurai move comfortably and efficiently when fighting, so if a knight stabbed the samurai then the samurai would get injured and this would affect the samurai while he is fighting (the samurai would be fighting worse), and possible depending on how bad the wound is, it could kill the ... • 32. What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Telescope The refractor telescope has many advantages and disadvantages. One of the disadvantages is that the lenses are made of glasses therefore it has to be perfect with no air bubbles or scratches in the glass as this will impair the users viewing. Another disadvantage is that lense are weakest around the edges because they are thinnest there and that is the only place they are being supported by the telescope so this can lead to easy breakage. The lense can have colour distortion which means when white light goes through the lense it is split into colours. Since violet right is refracted more than red, the violet is brought to a focus clearer and this will make the image coloured and blurred, this is called chromatic aberration. Some advantages ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The light enters through the objective lense and meets at a focal point. That is then magnified through an eyepiece where we see the image. The effects of light passing through lenses are different depending on which lense it is passed through. Double convex lenses works by refracting light rays that are travelling parallel to the principal axis towards the normal surface. When it hits the boundary the light is passing to a more dense medium which is usually glass or plastic. Since the light rays are passing from a medium that it travels fast in to a medium that they travel slow in, it will bend towards the normal line. Which is shown on this diagram. An image is formed in a refracting telescope because the first lense (objective lense) is convex and when the light travels through the lense because the surface is transparent the light travels through the lense and meets a focal point on the other side to create an image that is real, magnified(compared to when viewing with the naked eye) and inverted because the image is formed by real rays that refract and go through the lense instead of reflecting like a mirror. For example if an astronomer is looking at the moon through a refractor telescope the image he will see is real but smaller. The eyepiece lense is also inverted (convex) because this allows the image to be inverted again so it is the right way up for our eyes to see. This formula lets us find the distance of image1/f=1/do+1/di. An example of using this formula is if a 4 cm object is placed 12 cm in front with a focal length of 8cm. 1/f=1/do+1/di, ⅛=1/12+1/di, ⅛ 1/12 =1/di, 1/24=1/di, di = 24 this equation allows us to find the distance of ... Sushi s fame jumped an ocean across and became popular in the USA. Many factors contributed to its popularization and has helped make its place in the American cuisine. As time passed by, the simple creations of sushi evolved to complicated combinations and eye catching presentations today. This change was welcomed because it gave a new perspective of the dish, giving it a new face. One of the factors that made sushi popular was the influence of the American soldiers. After World War II (WWII), American soldiers who were led by General Douglas MacArthur occupied Japan. During the war, sushi shops were forced to close due to rationing. There were not enough rice to reopen the shops after the war. The American forces created a program where people would be the ones to bring their own rice to the shop if they wanted sushi. The sushi chef would then use the rice brought by the customers to make sushi for them. This allowed for the shops to reopen and function. This popularized sushi outside of Tokyo (sushi was mainly sold in the city). One can say, sushi was saved by the American forces. If the American forces had not stepped in and created the program to help revive the sushi shops, no doubt would there be sushi shops open today. Sushi would not have had the chance to spread outside of Tokyo. Another factor is The Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923. This was a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When America entered the war and helped a achieve a quick, decisive victory for the Allies, he was hailed overseas as the hero from the West. His creation of The League of Nations, which was shot down by the Senate during his infirm years following a stroke, likely could have helped prevent further unrest in European nations that led to World War ... • 37. The Abiding Presence Of God In The Gospel Of Matthew The Gospel of Matthew is an ancient biography. It discusses the generation of Jesus, worshipping his life and referring to his teachings as the good news. This Gospel summons readers to seek God s Kingdom, to follow Jesus so that they can experience wonderful things, and to act on His words, understand them and teach others like He taught us. The Gospel of Matthew consists of eight themes: The Abiding Presence of God, Jesus as the Son of God, The Teaching of Jesus, Discipleship, Interpretation and Scripture, Binding and Loosing, Worship and Doubt, Faith and Understanding, and Hostility Towards Jewish Leaders. God is omnipresent, meaning that he is in attendance everywhere at the same time. Matthew s Gospel exhibits interest in the ways that God is present on Earth. The Gospel of Matthew answers the question, Where is God? , usually asked by many struggling believers or by those who are generally curious. The answer that Matthew provides is divided into three presentations. The first being that God is present in Jesus, meaning that when Jesus was brought into this world, He had opened up a passage so that God can fully enter our world and actually be with us . In fact, the main point of this theme is that Matthew accepts those who worship Jesus and deems it appropriate because, in a sense, worshiping Jesus counts as worshiping God, who is present in Jesus. This point was proposed for the people who lived before Jesus crucifixion. However, after Easter, the question then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. Summary Of A Wall Of Fire Rising Life can be a beautiful thing, or in this case of the short story A Wall of Fire Rising, by Edwidge Danticat, life is an unpleasant thing. One of the main characters, Guy, is struggling to enjoy his life due to living as a low economy family in the post colonial Haitian era. Such a life can cause one to become crazy when seeing an opportunity to escape, but continuously being unable to reach it. Being out of reach of his escape plan and left with no other option, Guy, places little value in life and continuously thinks about hope for a better life. His aggressive characteristic traits are not an expression of a strange personality, but rather a reaction to feeling broken. Trapped by his economic status, Guy is out of reach of any opportunities to better his family s life. Because of this, he learned to accept that being a permanent worker at the sugar mill would never happen. Growing older, he knows he wants better for his son s life, but must keep up with the normal life his family belongs to. Many years ago, it was determined that the men of a specific decent were the only ones allowed to work at the mill. The Haitians of Lebanese, the sugar mill owners, were the workers because they had been in the country for generations. As the narrator explains, The jobs at the sugar mill were few and far between. The people who had them never left, or when they did they would pass the job on to another family member who was already waiting on line (Danticat 97 99). Since Guy was viewed as a lower class to the community, he worried about his son s future, but his wife tried to overlook the thought of her son living like Guy. Multiple times, Guy tried to tell his wife about his escape plan to a better life, but she blew it off each and every time. Due to the setting being post colonial, Guy never experienced a great life. After his multiple walks to watch the state sponsored news with his wife and son, he continuously notices a hot air balloon. The community knew the balloon belonged to the Assad family; however, after leaving it on the grass by the mill it seemed to become Guy s center of attention. • 40. Personal Statement For The Support Group Introduction For the support group that I led we planned on having it be focused around testimonies. I wanted for us each to be able to get to know one another on a deeper level than we had, specifically spiritually. I thought that doing five minute testimonies was a good way to be able to get to know one another better while still not making everyone divulge all of their life to people they are still getting to know and learning to trust. With the testimonies theme, I wanted my icebreaker to lead into the importance of listening to our client s stories and using our story as a platform for Christ. For my ending activity I wanted to lead into next support groups topic which we had decided would be about our current walk with the Lord. Group goals At our first support group we decided that our goals would stay the same each week. Our primary goal was to practice group facilitation and group participation. Our sub goals were to support one another and get to know one another. We began our first support group with not really supporting one another because there was no need for it; however, the second support group we supported one another as we shared about our families. The third support group also got deeper in supporting one another as we talked about our high school experiences. The fourth group I felt that we did not exercise the sub goal to support one another because it was more educational than supportive. I was nervous going after we talked about stress because it ... The Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood By John Everett Millais The Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood was founded by John Everett Millais, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, and William Holman Hunt who were students at the Royal Academy. Millais, Rossetti, and Hunt were dissatisfied with the academy teaching students to mimic renaissance masters like Raphael, and sought to create art reminiscent of the medieval period. In addition for their distaste for renaissance perfection in art the Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood were inspired by the theories of writer and art critic, John Ruskin. Ruskin encouraged artist to go back to nature, as well as show moral and material truth in their art via the use of symbols and more naturalistic depictions of nature (Harrison, Wood and Gaiger, 200). The Brotherhood at its inception strove to transmit a message of artistic renewal and moral reform by imbuing their art with seriousness, sincerity, and truth to nature. (Meagher) From Millais I will focus on one of his more famous paintings Ophelia, followed by Rossetti s Proserpine, and Hunt s Awakening Conscience. John Everett Millais Ophelia painted in 1851 is a depiction of noble woman Ophelia from Shakespeare s Hamlet. Ophelia s story is tragic as she loses the favour of price Hamlet who then goes on to kill Ophelia s father. Ophelia is driven mad by these event and is found dead in a brook, the scene depicted in Millais painting. True to the Pre Raphaelites and Ruskin s ideology the background was painted from observation with great care and detail. Perhaps the most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Anxiety is something everyone experiences from time to time; perhaps before a job interview, hospital operation or whilst waiting for very important news. Anxiety is related to the stress response of fight or flight . Whilst this response is useful for protection against physical dangers, it s not likely to be useful where the perceived threat relates to something such as a driving test or a public speaking engagement other than to makes us try to avoid the situation. Anxiety can be triggered by a number of factors. A past experience that we found unpleasant or associate with uncomfortable feelings, may create anxiety about it happening again in the future. We also learn ways of responding to stresses from our parents and due to the environment we grew up in. Signs and symptoms of anxiety include for example, churning stomach, muscle tension, headaches, palpitations, sweating, heightened alertness, inability to relax and irritability. • 45. The Importance Of Selfless Service When one sees the word selfless service, he or she literally sees the words self and less, followed by service. Self refers to an individual (in this case, it refers to one s own interests) and less indicates a lack of, or without. Service can be a synonym of the word volunteering or duty. Therefore, the term selfless service must literally mean the lack of the pursuit of one s own interests for the betterment of others. There is no measurement of selfless service. No matter what the scenario or who is involved, everyone who is involved benefits from one s selfless acts. The one who shows selflessness may benefit by receiving a thank you, or even just a good feeling of helping others. Of course, the ones who receive the selfless acts benefit from obvious reasons. Selfless service can be shown by anyone and everyone, including a soldier putting his/her life on the line to save a fallen comrade, a husband and father protecting and spending time with his wife and children, someone donating his/her time by volunteering as a tutor or with the American Red Cross or some other goodwill charity, and the teamwork of two or more athletes. Those four examples provide different scales in which selfless service can be displayed. Selfless service can be displayed in regards to one s nation/military, one s family, one s community, and any team sport. The U.S. Army s definition of selfless service is to put the welfare of the nation, the Army, and your subordinates before your own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first time when lava was recorded was many years after the destruction of Pompeii. . The main cause of death was suffocation in this town, most likely from the toxic fumes being emitted from the volcano. Because the eruption was only ashes and fumes, people probably struggled in darkness for hours before finally dying. Many wonder why so many people died if they had time to flee, but we must remember that the inhabitants did not know that Vesuvius was a volcano, causing them to flee to their houses, instead of further away from the scene.
