District 9 Essay
In 2005 Neil Blomkamp made a short film named Alice in Joburg, 4 years later he released the movie
District 9 based on the short. The director Neil Blomkamp has told reporters that District 9 was
inspired by historical events when Cape Town was declared a whites only area and 60,000 people
were forcibly removed (Newsweek, 2016). This theme of acceptance is carried throughout the film via
the narratives, soundtracks, and cinematography. The film District 9, shows how acceptance is
extremely versatile and fragile. This is accomplished through cinematography, narrative, and the way
that Neil Blomkamp has being able to symbolize Wikus Merwe as a very likable and friendly person.

This is reflected by the wider community who for the last 20 years have put up with the aliens. Now
being hunted Wikus turns to the aliens for help, this completely changes how acceptance is viewed in
the movie. Neil adds onto the theme of acceptance with short scenes/clips from the documentary style
with audio dubbing over (in past tense) saying how everyone was sorry they had shunned him out of
their life s. On top of the audio, clips similar to TV news where shown from the minority point of view
dubbing him as a traitor and alien sympathiser.
Up until the time when Wikus goes to the aliens for help the constant cinematic documentary style is
very similar style around the world. The scenes are shot in a manner very similar to the filming of
refugees, this can be seen in the image below (figure 2) demonstrating the similar traits from the real
world and the film. High angles are used to show the immensity and scale of the refugees/aliens,
similarly low angels are used to show the insignificant and frailness of the occupants. These sub
noticeable cinematic effects add onto the theme of acceptance, showing how acceptance is

The World Trade Organization Supervises And Administers...
Free trade is a policy in which governments do not pose tariffs or quotas on imports and exports.
Many people believe that free trade leads to better reallocation of the resources and higher level of
customers satisfaction. The World Trade Organization supervises and administers the international
trade and encourages and helps developing agreements and rounds between countries that lead to trade
liberalization. The biggest round within WTO and still in process is the Doha Round. The purpose of
this essay is to explain the purpose behind the Doha Round negotiations, why the round is difficult to
conclude and what the likely consequences are if it fails. First, it will be explained what is the Doha
Development Agenda, when did it start, which countries are negotiating, what is done by now.
Second, some reasons are given on why is the Doha round difficult to conclude such as the differences
in the views and goals between developed and developing countries. If Doha round fails there will be
consequences on the WTO, the free trade and therefore on most of the countries in the world. At the
end there will be some analysis on whether the Doha round is dead or reborn as the Bali package.
The World Trade Organization has 160 countries as members and manages over 95% of the world
trade flows. The WTO is a successor of the General Agreements on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), an
institution founded after the World War II to promote free trade as crucial for economic stability.

The Irony Of Optimism In Voltaire s Candide
When Cunégonde is first introduced in the story of Candide By Voltaire the only thing mentioned is
her looks. She is described as a seventeen year old ruddy cheeked girl, fresh, plump, and desirable (p.
186). Right off the bat she is presented as a sexually desirable character. This perception of her is what
Voltaire eventually uses to nullify philosophical optimism.
Cunégonde s first involvement in the plot involved a sexual act. She was walking near the castle when
she saw Dr. Pangloss in the underbrush; he was giving a lesson in experimental physics to her mother
s maid (p.186). In seeing these two have sex, she then had a sexual fantasy of her own about Candide.
This fantasy is what then led up to her physical interaction with Candide that resulted in him getting
kicked out of the castle. Twice she has been mentioned in the first two pages of the story and the only

The world that is, is the best of all possible worlds. The author writes this book to point out the
foolishness and the irony of this philosophical thought. Cunégonde s reputation goes along with that.
In the real world, men value chastity in women and a woman s virginity is something that she holds
dear. When that is stripped away from her without her consent, it is not at all met with the attitude that
the characters in Candide have met it with. Characters like Candide himself or evens some of the
women in the story like the old woman seem to be very nonchalant about women being sold as
prostitutes or being raped. Voltaire uses this as a way to point out to readers the foolishness of this
philosophical idea. If in fact, this were the best of all possible worlds, a woman s virtue means nothing
and people should not care about it. This is where readers can see that Cunégonde is merely a tool
Voltaire uses to invalidate this idea, which shows that her role as a minor character is an significant

Analysis Of A Worn Path By Phoenix Jackson
In a short story, A Worn Path An elderly woman named Phoenix jackson makes a trip to town to get
medicine for her grand child with lye poisoning. Along the way she encounters several obstacles.
Welty throughout the story the author makes several points to connect this work to other famous
works of literature to strengthen her character without directly doing so. The author uses imagery to
recreate famous parts of The Bible also the main character s name, Phoenix Jackson is a reference to
the mystical bird the phoenix which is a symbol for rebirth. Phoenix Jackson symbolically is reborn
several times throughout the story. The stories title and main plot point is the path she walks which
holds many similarities to the path of life.
The first story of the bible that the author relates to A Worn Path is the story of moses parting the red
sea. This was illustrated in paragraph twenty eight Parting her way from side to side with her cane..
(Welty) This is one of the more vague relations, but in the third paragraph where Mrs. Jackson yells at
wild animals Old Phoenix said, Out of my way all you foxes, owls, beetles, jack rabbits, coons and
wild animals!... Keep the big wild hogs out of my path.... (Welty) and this strongly relates to first book
of the Bible, genesis where God gives man command over all the animals and sea creatures. In the
same part of the bible God creates Adam and puts him in charge of naming all of these creates so
maybe the author was also taking a jab

Canada s Business Cycle
Have you ever wondered how in today s society the prices for products and services are increasing
each day and the average house costs around a million and a half? People are now expecting the
economy to go into a depression. This is what is called the business cycle, a cycle or series of cycles
of economic expansion and contraction. The business cycle was first demonstrated the early 1900s in
Canada in which it made the time period of a time of prosperity and progress for almost all Canadians.
Throughout the different decades between 1900 and 1930s, Canada has progressed positively in terms
of political, economic and social change. For these changes, it is safe to assume Canada grew up in the
early 1900s.

1. Issue identification:
Jerry Yu is considering whether to invest in Liuyang fireworks factory, so he made an evaluation of
the Chinese firework industry. Here is a brief identification of the issue:
1.1 History of fireworks:
There is an old line of the Chinese fireworks, which is tightly combined with varieties of celebrations
and festivals in China. Especially, Liuyang is known as the home of fireworks and firecrackers and
good at making varieties of fireworks. And fireworks and firecrackers has become the pillar industry
of Liuyang.

Department of Transportation. The fireworks are all of high quality, so no special storage was
required.
Also, in the most Europe, similar regulations were in place for safety considerations, only the
requirements were regarded as less stringent. In Canada, regulations were extremely restrictive.
However, over the past decade Chinese fireworks companies had made great strides in the Canadian
market.
As to the domestic market, during the 1990s, increased concerns over environmental pollution and
safety of human life and property led more and more cities to regulate he consumption of fireworks
and firecrackers. However, all this began to change in the mid 2000s. Beijing lifted a 12 year ban on
fireworks in 2005 and other cities followed suit. Over the next ten years, many legal restrictions were
lifted.
Offensive strategy to increase the sales of fireworks:
Speaking of Liuyang, in 1997, seeing the decline of its fireworks sales, Liuyang Firecrackers and
Fireworks Industry Department, the government agency in charge of the overall development of the
pillar industry, decided to start an offensive strategy. First, it opened local offices in most of the 29
provinces, major cities and regions to promote Liuyang fireworks. Second, it regulated the prices that
Liuyang fireworks companies could quote and sell in export sales. Third, it resorted to a government
to government relationship in order to secure contracts for large public fireworks displays

The National Missile Defense System is the First Step to...
The National Missile Defense System is the First Step to Another Cold War and the United States
Should Not Do It
As we begin the twenty first century, an increasing number of states around the world are acquiring
nuclear capabilities. The sense of insecurity by individual governments is driving many states into
developing and testing ballistic missiles. In the mean time, the United States finds itself in a position
to develop new technology that will protect themselves against these potential missile strikes. The
development of a national anti ballistic missile defense system has sparked many controversies around
the United States. Advocates of the system argue that it is only a defensive measure, but they fail to

Disturbed by the Rumsfeld report, Capital Hill responded immediately by passing two bills. The first
bill known as S. 257 stated, It is the policy of the United States to deploy as soon as is technologically
possible an effective National Missile Defense system capable of defending the territory of United
States against limited ballistic missile attack . The S.257 was followed by a second bill named H.R. 4
passed in March of 1999 that stated, It is the policy of the United States to deploy a national missile
defense. (Policy.com)
The proposal of the National Missile Defense System by Capitol Hill is a clear example of the
international security dilemma, where the United States desire to become more secure compromises
other states security. By setting up a missile defense to escape the power of other states, this will only
create insecurity in the international arena that will prompt other states to react with their own missile
defense system. This dynamia can also be seen through the prisoner s dilemma diagram (Figure 1).
The United States fears for the worst possibility so it arms itself to increase its protection. It does not
trust the other players in the international community and does not want to

An Analysis Of Hoch s Photomontage s Spirit Of Our Time
Hoch s photomontage was one of many collages that criticized the cultural staleness, depravity, and
decaying values of the German state. Through her depiction of German politicians and technology in a
state of chaos and confusion, she was effectively able to convince the German people to reevaluate
their faith in the government and current cultural values. She used the fast advancing technology of
the time (especially mass media) in also advancing her own goals of sardonically criticizing the
failings of the German state as well as pushing for gender equality. The other Berlin Dadaist, Raoul
Hausmann, created the combine, Spirit of Our Time: Mechanical Head, to criticize the German public
s dependence on tools and industry to think and rationalize, stripping away what he perceived made us
human (Crockett, 173). The title, Spirit of Our Time, is a metaphor for the German people s inability
to enact the change and reform needed to rebuild a better Germany after the horrendous world war
(Doherty, 82). The wooden head represents current state of the German people whose extent of
thought and logic can only be experienced by the mechanical tools affixed to the outside of his head.
The tools attached to his head include a ruler and a tape ruler, a pocket watch, a jewelry box
containing a typewriter wheel, a telescopic beaker, and some brass knobs from a camera
(artfactory.com). These objects each have some significance to the thoughts that the wooden head is

Medieval Vs Renaissance Philosophy
The Medieval Era was a time dominated by belief. People lived with such great superstition and fear
of God. Many people were focused not on their lives her on earth, but rather their life after death.
During the Renaissance people became more humanistic and focused more on their lives in the
moment rather than their afterlife. We can see these changes of Ideas by studying the works of Saint
Anselm of Canterbury, Saint Thomas Aquinas, Thomas a Kempis, and Caesarius of Heisterbach from
the Medieval Era and compare it to the works of Marsilio Ficino, Leonardo Da Vinci, Niccolo
Machiavelli, and Desiderius Erasmus of the Renaissance period we can see ... Show more content on

Here Aquinas argues that everything that happens is the cause of something, but nothing can cause
itself. If we trace back a cause all the way back to the beginning of the world, it could not have caused
itself. Therefore, God must have been the first cause. Aquinas third proof is the Argument from
Contingency. We see that everything here on earth is finite. People die, empires fall. All things must
come to an end. That means things had to have a beginning where nothing was in existence yet. How
did things come into existence? God. Aquinas s 4th argument is the Argument of Degrees. Here we
judge things to be a certain degree of good or bad. But what are we comparing that to? If they have a
certain degree of good and bad, then what is the greatest degree of good? And that must be God.
Aquinas s final argument is his Argument from Design. Perhaps one of his strongest arguments
Aquinas says that there must be an intelligent designer behind everything. Random objects don t have
any brains to act the way they do. But they are directed in the way they act by God.
Thomas a Kempis is famous for his work in The Imitation of Christ. The book is one of the most
famous devotional books for Christians right after the Bible. In his book he tells the common folk how
to live like Christ (Hence the name Imitation of Christ ). The book tells us how to live not for our lives
today, but for our lives in the next life. He tells us

Novel Play Review Notes: Brave New World
Key Quotation
Everyone belongs to everyone else, after all. (149)
The idea of complete access in Brave New World actually elucidates the confinement in which the
citizens of the modern world are living in. Everyone must subject to one another s desires and
motives, seemingly being treated like property. Consequently, the fact that all the members of this
society play both the role of master and slave demonstrates that the only individuals with a sense of
true freedom are those who regulate the society and control the thoughts of the general population.

From the beginning of the novel readers are introduced to a highly advanced yet seemingly dystopian
society, based in London. Huxley establishes that the year is A.F. 632 or 2540, commemorating Henry
Ford s production of the Ford Model T in 1908 (A.F. 1). Already, readers begin to understand the role
the setting plays in the novel as the new World State worship a figure of industrial and technological
advancements similar to how people of our time worship God. Huxley further creates a disturbing
image by elaborately describing every single detail of this new world, from professions such as
Director of Hatcheries and Conditioning to technologies like scent organs and vibro vacuum
massages. This intense emphasis of detail even helps parody our own world. Christianity has the
cross, citizens of the World State have their T . We would say, Thank God! ; they say Thank Ford! .
Consequently, while London enjoys the fruits of these advancements, Huxley describes the savage
reservation in New Mexico with the same kind of detail, but keeping an emphasis on the primitive
characters of this land. The reservation shares a resemblance to that of an exhibition at a zoo, and
partly takes that form as Bernard Marx, one of the protagonists, visits the area to examine and view
the inhabitants. In the reservation, Bernard is given a tour of the culture, activities, and people of the
reservation. Aside from the natural landscape, readers learn that even the

Stevie would say things that made it seem like he could see, so that it would freak people out

his disability was not always negative. He sometimes used his handicap to have fun and make the best

How Does Ice Affect Ice Cream
Title: How is the time it takes ice cream to freeze affected when the amount of Sodium Chloride(salt)
added to the ice used to freeze the ice cream is changed?
Purpose
The purpose of the experiment is to see how the freezing process of ice cream is affected when
different amounts of Sodium Chloride are added on the ice that is used to freeze it.
Background Information
The three most common states of matter are solid, liquid and gas. When a person has made ice cream,
the ingredients go from a liquid to a solid state which is called freezing. In the liquid state, the
substance s molecules are the most loosely packed of the three states of matter and have no definite
volume. Because of this, they will usually take the shape of whatever container they are put into. The
solid state however is the complete opposite. In this state, the molecules are tightly packed and are
unable to move around freely. (Classifications of Matter) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to freeze the ice cream must reach a little below the freezing point of ice, which is 32 degrees
Fahrenheit or 0 degrees Celsius. The words freezing point just means the temperature where a liquid
transition into a solid. That s where salt come into play. Salt does something called freezing point
deprivation. Freezing point deprivation is when the freezing point of a solvent is lowered when a
solute is added to it. In this case salt is being added to ice. A common example of freezing point
deprivation in real life would be when salt is added to the roads right before it snows. Assuming the
temperature is around 32 degrees Fahrenheit, the salt lowers the freezing point of the snow by a few
degrees and as a result, the snow melts when it hits the

The top management is not the stereotypical group of businessmen. These people value each and
every employee of the company. Even the CEO and co founder Jim doesn t try to distance himself
from the rest of the staff. His name tag simply says, Jim , no pretense of authority at all, just Jim .
Costco s CEO makes far less than most executives, with a total compensation package of about $4.83
million in 2012. In contrast, Walmart CEO Mike Duke made roughly $19.3 million during the same
year. Walmart s CEO earns as much as 796 average employees, according to CNN Money, compared
to Costco s CEO making 48 times more than the company s median wage. The company has a high
performance culture where the employees have fun and feel excited about their work. They
continuously receive training; build teamwork as well as diversity. Costco is the epitome of the Clan
culture, in that this type of business focuses on its employees; it operates like an extended family with
common goals and shared values. The clan culture values flexibility, employee autonomy and
teamwork rather than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In This Experiment, Kay Deaux And Tim Emswiller Are Testing
In this experiment, Kay Deaux and Tim Emswiller are testing and analyzing the attributions made to
luck versus skill in explaining the performance of a stimulus person. They hypothesized that when
people are asked to evaluate the performance of a male or a female on either a male or female related
task, where they both perform equally well on both tasks, the male s performance will be attributed to
skill, while the female s performance will be attributed to luck. On the other hand, when it s a female
related task, the female s performance will be more strongly attributed to skill and the male s
performance will be more strongly attributed to luck. Previous investigations of male and female
performance in equivalent situations has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The test taking partners were previously taped recordings by either a male or female answering the
discrimination questions. The subjects were told that the test taker would be shown a series of pictures
on a video of familiar objects embedded in a camouflaged background. Each picture was shown for
approximately one second and the test taker would then have to make a true or false response
determining whether the object seen on screen was the same as the one listed. The subjects would hear
the question number and the true or false response of the test taker. The subjects were given
mimeographed answer forms that were assumed to match the ones in front of the test takers. The
subjects answer forms contained the correct answers so that they could keep track of the test takers
scores. There were two tasks consisting of twenty five questions each. The first consisted of household
objects and was female oriented. The second consisted of mechanical objects and was male oriented.
There was only one task completed during each experimental session chosen by the experimenter. The
instructions given to each subject emphasized that a person s performance is influenced by factors
such as luck, ability, and effort. These factors were told to be kept in mind as well as the tone and
hesitation in the test takers voice.
In each case the test takers answered 16 of the 25 questions correctly, while the norm was told to the

The Concept Of Discourse Community
As people we tend to associate with others with a common interest working together to accomplish
something great for others or for ourselves. Amongst us there are an infinite of numbers of a discourse
communities, which is limitless to identify each one. John Swales, author of The Concept of
Discourse Community , describes it as group of individuals that share a common goal and sub goals as
a whole. Or as James Porter definition of a discourse community: is a group of individuals bound by a
common interest who communicate through approved channels and whose discourse is regulated.

Analysis Of Undaunted Courage By Stephen Ambrose
Stephen Ambrose, the author of Undaunted Courage, reveals his purpose in writing the book in several
different ways. Throughout the fourth chapter of the book, he uses language, individuals and groups,
and historical events to display his purpose. By the end of the first page of the book, it is clear that
Stephen Ambrose s purpose in writing Undaunted Courage was to inform the reader. This is obvious
because of his textbook like organization and persistent use of advanced syntax. Ambrose begins the
fourth chapter of his book by giving a description of Thomas Jefferson. Even in the first sentence, the
reader can see that Ambrose wasis attempting to inform them. Ambrose writes, When Thomas
Jefferson took the Oath of Office as the third president of the United States on March 4, 1801, the
nation contained 5,308,483 persons. This statement, full of facts and figures, shows that Stephen

continent, but none were able to commit the resources necessary to launch a major land campaign into
the American wilderness. Ambrose s inclusion of these facts and ideas further supports the claim that
his prime intention in writing this piece was to inform others about the events of the 19th century,
specifically pertaining to the North American continent. In addition to the inaction of the European
nations, Ambrose also touches on certain events such as Jefferson seeing a hot air ballon travel to
further inform the reader about the aspirations of the President. Jefferson understood the need for
quick travel and considered hot air balloons as a choice for revolutionary

I was determined to get a 100%, so I played around with the numbers until I found that at 500 miles
above the Earth, the satellite would have to be launched at 16,700mph in order to reach a perfect orbit.
Below is the explanation of why:
Although the satellite is always falling towards the earth, because of gravity, the right combination of
height and speed causes the satellite to fall as much as the earth curves, so the satellite never crashes

Asteroid belt is located between Jupiter and Mars, ALL of the other objects in these ranks are orbiting

however, so you could say that Jupiter s influence is stronger than Mars, and if other asteroids collide

Victor Hugo wrote that: People in fantasy, often ignore the actual. (Les Misérables) and in this

Theory Of Knowledge Essay 2014
„That which is accepted as knowledge today is sometimes discarded tomorrow.
Consider knowledge issues raised by this statement in two areas of knowledge.
To what Extent is new knowledge better than old knowledge and therefore can knowledge be
permanent?
To answer this question, one first has to consider that knowledge as such varies on the point of
perspective, since there are many ways of knowing. As for example Reasoning and Sense Perception.
Reasoning is something we use whenever we tend to make a decision, therefore the interpretation of
the word Reason can vary in the slightest form. Our sense of reason is usually decided by our instinct
as we decide almost unconsciously depending on the sort of experience we have had before. ... Show

For example in 2009, the swine Flu was devised worldwide. Later given facts proved that the amount
of deaths caused by the Swine Flu measured annually were similar to any other of a normal Flu. 1This
proves my point that scandals are devised to the wider public to hide real problems. The modern
media makes this very easy, as they seem to push the importance of scandals. This can be linked to the
area of knowledge History, as it might have been the case with past incidences, and therefore how do
we know if they are correct?
Today is a time measurement representing the present. This makes me wonder what knowledge exists
today? Will it be permanent? To what extent is knowledge temporary? As we have seen in the past,
knowledge we have gained previously proves to be wrong over a certain amount of time. If we look
back for example people used to believe that the earth was flat. This was predominantly because the
technology was not there to research further. So basically a lack of technology hinders us from
knowing everything. Can this be applied to us? It is often said that the more you learn the less you
know, which conveys much the same problem as the essay. For example myself, when I was younger,
I used to believe that colours were just given by nature. But now after some time in Physics lessons, I
realised that colours are nothing more than the visual perception from the light reflection depending
on its wavelengths. How do we know we can trust the

Bell Jar Depression
While it is sad, it is interesting to see how depression can slowly break down an individual to someone
who feels nothing but apathy. For people who struggle with the illness, no happy thoughts can
changed how they perceive the life and the world around them. It s not as easy as getting a massage or
thinking happy thoughts to change their mood and take away all that sadness, emptiness, and all that
negative self talk. The Bell Jar is a contemplation of the despairing life of Esther Greenwood and her
descent into darkness. She personifies the actual mental struggle and the tumultuous life of the author,
Sylvia Plath who, at a very young age suffered from clinical depression. While many believed that

Dual Language Reflection Paper
The instruction of this lesson took place in a 2nd grade Spanish dual language classroom. The total
number of students that were present that day were 27 students. I videotaped two out of the three
lessons taught, but decided to choose the first video because of the level of student engagement. The
video I chose is from the first minutes of the first lesson including the hook and it goes into the
moment that students start carrying out their own investigations through the construction and the
creation of their own clay boats. Even before I asked the hook, the students were raising their hands,
which is common for them to do. What I feel I should have done was asked them to put their hands
down and think for three seconds about the question before they raise their hands. Something that I
noticed that did work during the teaching of this lesson was manipulating the clay in front of them and
acting as if I going to drop it in. The students got very creative with some of the answers, but those are
the answers that are worth jotting down as well because that might be what other students are
thinking.
Something that I didn t take into account right away was that not all students could see from where
they were standing. Therefore, I m glad my cooperating teacher started to move the students. The
wording of my directions was not as clear as I had planned for when taking everyone into account
because the students at the middle table also started to stand up just like the students

Suez Canal Crisis Analysis
Heavily influenced by foreign affairs, even as Canada grew more distinguished in their own
independence, international conflicts continued to be a leading factor in shaping Canada s identity as a
country. Canada s various stances when it comes to the Suez Canal, and First and Second Iraq wars,
are excellent examples of the progress Canada has made within their foreign policy, as they ve
developed as a country over time. Advancing further away from blindly following connected powers
like Britain and the United States, Canada finds its ways to show its uniqueness in the face of these
conflicts. The Suez Canal crisis of 1956 displayed a side of Canada previously unseen by the world.

Skills Of A Well Educated Person
Skills of a Well Educated Person
Even though a well educated person is thought of as one who has extensive college education and
attend the finest schools, a well educated person can also be one who is educated with hands on
experience without a college degree.
When referring to a person as well educated it usually has to do more with formal education than
informal education. When someone is describing a person as well educated, consideration for both
formal and informal types of education should be included. Formal education is very important in the
early years since children have yet to acquire the necessary fundamental skills. Informal education is
very important as well; however, it is learning on a different level. Various studies conducted over the
years have shown that informal learning helps solidify the information learned in mind. According to
Psychologist, David Kolb, his Experiential Learning Theory takes a more holistic approach and
emphasizes how experiences, including cognitions, environmental factors, and emotions, influence the
learning process (Smith, M. K. 2001, 2010). A study performed in 2009 by Purdue University
demonstrated that being an active participant assisted in retaining information. This study was
mentioned in an article titled Hands On Learning vs. Lecturing by Katie Ash. It was discovered that
when students who actually did hands on work, understood on a deeper level than the students who

Examples Of Power Corrupts
Many would say that power corrupts. The phrase penned by John Dalberg, Power corrupts, and
absolute power corrupts absolutely, has become a cliché idiom thrown about when discussing power.
Does it really though? Does power really corrupt every man it touches? Power is merely a tool, neither
inherently good nor bad. Power, similar to magic , is subject to the one who wields it. If something
wicked wields power, the power will lead to wicked things. However, power in the hands of good will
lead to good things it is a reflection of the heart. In J.R.R. Tolkien s book The Fellowship of the Ring
his characters exhibit different reactions to power. Some crave it, others lust for it, and one in
particular shuns it. Power is a tool; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Rings for the Elven kings under the sky, Seven for Dwarf lords in their halls of stone, Nine for Mortal
Men doomed to die, One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne... (Tolkien 49). The men were doomed
to die. Similarly, in our world men are doomed to die without the salvation of Jesus, for all have
sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, and they are justified freely by his grace through the
redemption that came by Christ Jesus. (Romans 3:23 24) This is why men in Tolkien s books have
such a hard time handling power. For example the nine mortal men give in to the temptation to abuse
their power and consequently they turn into wraiths, undying slaves of Sauron. Man s heart is corrupt
in Middle Earth same as it is corrupt in our world, and this is why it appears that power always
corrupts when it is really just the corruption of man brought to light by the influence of power. The
great sin here is lust. The lust for power, or money, or women, or gold (Thorin Oakenshield) is the
great downfall of man. Each thing individually is not evil, but it is the lust that is, and it is the lust that

Explain How To Promote Effective Communication
HOW TO COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY
Communicate is essential in health and social care settings because without a good communication to
patients, families, colleagues and management is very difficult to deliver good service of care.
A care worker needs to listen their patients needs and respond to them with professionalism.
Facial expression, eye contact, active listening, nonverbal communication, clarifying messages,
empathy, use of body language and appropriate language tone and pace are all results of effective
communication.
When a service user have some moral issues or any type of issues the service provider needs to have

Some example of barriers to communication are use of jargon, physical barriers, cultural differences,
impairments, different language and patronising communication.
Jargon is when people express technical words throughout a conversation.
Physical barriers to communication is when people are trying to communicate and something are
stopping them to communicate well for example a place which there is a lot of noise could be a barrier
for them to have a conversation.
Some physical can be someone who have difficulties to understand because of limitation of vision,

Effects Of A Solar Eclipse
What is a solar eclipse? What effect might a solar eclipse have on one? A solar eclipse occurs when
the moon passes between the sun and the earth. This makes the sun align behind the moon as it blocks
the sun s beautiful and gleaming rays. When the sun is behind the moon, it seems as if it is as dark as
night and makes the sun look like a ring of fire high in the sky. During a solar eclipse, many things can
happen that one would be astonished by observing such as, the actual object, changes in the
atmosphere, animals and people s behavior, and emotional and sensual feelings. The object that
appeared in the sky had everyone s attention and concentration, not only that day, but weeks before.
Everyone had been talking about the upcoming solar eclipse. Teachers planned lessons, and posters
lined the walls to inform students of expectations and safety measures. A solar eclipse, an event
appealing to the eye, is an unforgettable phenomenon that can leave someone with the experience of a
lifetime.
On the day of the eclipse, the view of the sun was oddly bright and dim. The sky was as bright as a
sun rise early in a summer s morning. It was so bright I was tempted, yet scared to look at it. The

STRATEGY Case for critical analysis
Associated Newspapers Ltd (ANL) Metro London Lite
1. What would the SWOT analysis look like for this company?
Strengths:
We have specialized our market focusing in young people, which is hard because they do not usually
read newspapers. We have also founded a new newspaper, which is called London Lite, which is
mainly designed for women. We have the biggest newspapers sold in the UK, and we have sold 1.1
million copies of our free newspaper, which is now one of the best free newspaper in the UK, and the
best one in the world.
Our newspaper is sold in many cities, and around 18 million people.

Internet plays a huge paper in the news and communication field, due to the fast, free easy and
accessible way for everybody to look for the last news.
Because of the increase in the use of the Internet, this information media has become one of the most
used information channels over the world. Like everything it has some pros and cons:
On the one hand, if we are in the point of view of the newspaper, we save more because we do not use
any kind of paper neither ink, nor machinery so our costs are minimum. Another good fact, that has
online newspapers, is that you can read the breaking news at the moments that are posted, without
waiting until the next day.
But for people the most important one is that the newspapers are usually free in the
Internet that is why there are more online readers day by day.
Whereas, on the other hand, even though there are not so many bad things we find two of them that
are the most important. The first one is that as online newspapers are free for the readers the company
that manages the newspaper does not win as much as it should before, so the need more publicity. The
other one is that as we said before most of them are free but there are also some those if you want to
read the newspaper you have to subscribe to it.

Essay about Honored Irish Immigrants
For many people, the American dreams and promises brought ideas and new hopes of a better life. For
the Irish, the American dreams and promises weren t just ideas and hopes, they were the way to a new
beginning in America, a way to start over and forget the horrifying past they encountered. The Irish
struggled day after day to pay for fair travel to America. To many people, the challenge the Irish
overcame seemed to deserve praise. Today, the Irish are honored and commemorated for their hard
work and desire for a better life.
The start of the Irish peoples struggles began when the British came and destroyed their way of life.
The Penal laws of 1691 stripped Irish Catholics of their freedoms by taking away their rights to

People worried about the potato crop. At first, the potatos seemed fine, but after further examination
the potatos were rotten. In October of 1845, Britain s Prime Minister, Sir Robert Peel, established a
scientific commission to discover over half of Irelands potatos had been ruined by wet rot. The potato
crop failed time and time again. Irish people began to lose hope in receiving better living conditions,
but the shipping lanes opened to America after they had been closed by the war (Philip). Irish began to
think of the American dream and promise.
The American dream and promise changes a nations state of mind. It originally comes from the
Declaration of Independence. The promise is all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their
Creator with certain unalienable Rights. The dream: Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. All of
which were things the Irish desired (Pendry).
According to Philips, between 1815 and 1816, around 20,000 Irish traveled to the Americas. These
emigrants were mostly professionals and shopkeepers, because farmers couldn t afford travel. Over
the next two decades shipping fees continued to have outrageous prices, but between 1823 and 1825
more people, such as the merchants and farmers, were able to travel because free passage and land
grants were allowed to Catholics. The largest emigration was in 1827 when nearly 400,000 Irish
traveled to the Americas on Coffin Ships; overcrowded ships filled

Generation of electricity:
Nuclear Energy
A report for Zebra Tech
Abstract
This report reviews energy sources of the world traditionally used to generate electricity, namely
renewable and non renewable sources, giving a brief overview of each of the 6 methods and how they
generate electricity, and evaluates the suitability of each by weighing up their advantages and
disadvantages. It introduces nuclear energy and gives a detailed description of the setup and process
whereby electricity is produced from nuclear energy. By weighing up a broad spectrum of advantages
and disadvantages of using nuclear energy, specifically various costs, risks and efficiency, in
comparison to traditional generation methods, the report determines that nuclear energy is indeed
suitable to use throughout the world.

The many advantages, particularly it low cost to produce electricity in comparison to traditional
methods, its efficiency and lack of emission of greenhouse gasses, working independent of the
weather and it s inverse effect on the consequent use of fossil fuels outweigh it s few but notable
disadvantages of cost to build power plants and potential risks of radiation due to mishandling.
2. Overview of energy sources
There are numerous energy sources used worldwide, both renewable and non renewable. The
following are the most common.
2.1. Renewable energy
2.1.1. Wind energy
A popular renewable energy source is wind energy, used globally. Kinetic energy in the form of wind
turns large turbines, which the convert this energy into mechanical energy, or electricity, as it supplies
an electric generator, producing an electric current. As the wind turns the blades of the turbine, a shaft
connected to a generator is consequently spun, resulting in the production of

Comparing The Chimney Sweep And Songs Of Innocence And...
William Blake s The Chimney Sweep and Songs of Innocence and Experience
In this essay I will attempt to analyse, compare and contrast the poems The Chimney Sweep from both
Songs of Experience and Songs of Innocence which were both written by William Blake in 1790 92
and 1789 respectively. These two poems were amalgamated in 1794 to create a new collection called
Songs of Innocence and Experience .
I will be looking at what Blake says and hints at concerning the two contrary states of the human soul
in the two poems as well as looking at the message Blake is trying to convey to the reader. As the
poems are written regarding the same subject, that is a chimney sweep, I will be looking at how they

This was because of the huge power the rich and wealthy possessed; they could pay people less and
lay workers off without the fear of them taking mass industrial action because people were so
desperate for the money and would not have even have thought have taking such action. Over the
years life got harder for the working class year by year and was basically a constant battle to stay
alive, which many were losing. Due to the fact that people were so poor, the burden of contributing to
the family income was placed on children even earlier and this quite often meant working as a
chimney sweep from the age of four, a topic explored in Blake s two poems. Life expectancy was
short and if you were unfortunate enough to be a chimney sweep you were seen to be doing well if
you got past the age of ten. Money generally means power and at that time in the world it was
especially true and actually to a greater degree and so the more money you had the more power and
authority you had and if you were rich enough you could not only have an influence on the area of the
country you lived in but also be influential in the running of the country. Consequently due to the
totally disproportionate spread of power within the country, people who were very poor had absolutely

It honestly presents the symptoms, emotions, and reactions of someone dealing with this mental
disorder. His symptoms were hallucinations that he believed for years and extreme paranoia. During
the earlier years of his condition, he could not tell the difference between reality and hallucination.
This happened again during his relapse. The reactions people close to him experienced were hesitation
and fearfulness. Alicia was emotional when she found out of the disorder and shocked when the
people he has been talking about for years did not exist. She also experience difficulty with him before
and after the diagnosis. She noticed his paranoia and got help. She hated to see him suffer during his
stay at the hospital. She suffered while he was on his medication, and she suffered when he relapsed.
When John learned that he had paranoid schizophrenia, it was hard for him to come to terms with it;
he also hated the side effects that the antipsychotics gave him. Later in his life, he was able to tell the
difference between hallucination and reality. It was known to many people that he suffered from
paranoid schizophrenia. Near the end of the film, he was approached by a stranger and asked one of
his students if he was real or not. The individuals towards to end of the film acknowledged that he had

Studies on Memories
Human beings usually depend on memory to accurately recall or describe the past events that have
happened. However, many researchers have shown that human memories can be imperfect and fallible
(Lilienfeld et al., 2012). This essay will argue that human memory for the details of past events is not
reliably accurate. The evidence for this argument can be seen in two empirical studies which will be
reviewed. Schmolck, Buffalo Squire (2000), found that percentage memory distortions and mistaken
recollections after 32 months is higher than 15 months. Lastly, Roediger III, Jacoby, and McDermott
(1996) found an extensive misinformation effects occurred in memory recall and the effects increase
with repeated testing.
First evidence is study by Schmolck et al. (2000) which is to examine memory changes about the O.J.
Simpson trial verdict after 15 months and 32 months of the incident. The IVs for the study is the time
taken for the interview of the participants. The IVs has two levels which are the interview were
conducted after 15 months and 32 months of the incident. Meanwhile, the DVs for the study is the
percentage of memory distortions after 15 and 32 months of the incident. They surveyed 222
undergraduate psychology students. The participants rated several questions and answered a few
questions (how they heard the verdict, where were they and what were they doing when they heard the
verdict) after 3 days of the verdict was announced. Then, the 222 students were divided into

Bringing Dinosaurs Back to Life: Digital Art, Science, and Speculative Media in Jurassic Park s
Making of Documentary
Throughout the history of science, there has not been an animal creature that sparked the human s
fantasy as iconographically as the dinosaurs. Extinct from the face Earth about 65 million years ago,
dinosaurs have become a representation of the vulnerability of our species and the dramatic forces of
nature. To a certain extent, such realization has been possible due to Steven Spilberg s science fiction
film Jurassic Park (1993) and its impact on popular culture, including three Oscars and over a billion
dollars in revenue worldwide. Although in The Making of Jurassic Park the production work is
represented in fundamental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, it would have been interesting to see the perspectives of actors in being part of a reality
that they could not see instantly during the acting since the CGI and robotics of the dinosaurs would
only be added during the post production stage. It is also worth mentioning that, on the production
stage in Hawaii, Spielberg mentions his vision on having actors who could be as naturalistic as
possible, instead of casting movie icon starts. Considering the and technological development of the
90s, the audience needed to believe in the components of reality proposed in order to be taken in the
journey the film proposes; otherwise, the interlocutor would never believe in the fantasy that Jurassic
Park aimed to

Essay Passion of the Christ
The Passion of the Christ is one of many films about the life of Jesus but this particular one is
different to the others. Released in 2004, directed by Mel Gibson and filmed in the ancient Aramaic
language, `The Passion focuses mainly on the death of Christ and shows us the full extent as to what
he suffered to save mankind.
Before seeing The Passion of the Christ I hadn t heard much about it except that it was very violent
and politically incorrect. In fact I hadn t seen or heard a review that said if it was good or bad or if it
was well acted or if it was worth the watch. Everyone just seemed to be interested in saying that it is
too violent, the movie should not have been made and Mel Gibson shouldn t be making money from a

There is definitely something in this film for everyone. Even if you can t bear to watch the violence,
which is so predominant throughout the movie, there is a lot of emotion, action and even horror that
will keep any audience gripped. In this film Gibson uses the devil in the form of a person and he
shows us how man is tempted by evil which results in jumps and frights better than most horror films
out these days.
As far as the violence is concerned, The Passion was very gruesome and disturbing to watch at some
points. Some people think it is too much to see someone getting their skin ripped off with metal claws
but I think it was a necessary part of the ordeal to which Christ was subjected and it brings home the
enormity of what happened. Other films made his crucifixion out to be a graceful and peaceful death
almost leaving out the fact that he was nearly flogged to death before even touching his cross.
This is not the type of film where you can complain about the story line or say you didn t like the
ending, but you do come with an expectation of how you would like them to portray the story. For me
I was more than satisfied with how they did it but some more religious people might not like the way
little things were changed from the Bible. In The Passion when Judas Iscariot hung himself he didn t
say he was sorry to god but we could see that he regretted doing what he did and we knew he was
sorry. Gibson also

The Heroism Of The Men
Throughout history there have been wars; battles are fought over a woman, Helen of Troy, over land,
religion, and family feuds (the Hatfield and McCoy feud). War and its aftermath are never pretty
unless penned by authors who never step into a battlefield. Lives are lost, our fathers, mothers, sons,
and daughters have all sacrificed for their causes. Lord Alfred Tennyson romanticized the of notion
war and of the battle that was fought on the battlefield in his poem The Charge of the Light Brigade,
subsequently, the intent of battle was for the glory of a cause or nation and to remember the bravery of
those who fought. On the other, hand Wilfred Owen s poem Dulce et Decorum Est was the opposite,
anti romanticism of war, he too did not want the bravery of the men to be lost forever. Each of the
poems praised the heroism of the men, one written in a military cadence, and the other written to
emphasize the exhaustion and what by now have become the mundane reality of war and the horrific
deaths these men suffered. Lord Alfred Tennyson romanticized the notion of war, of the battles that
were fought in the battlefields and trenches in his poem The Charge of the Light Brigade. Tennyson s
poem portrays the war in a positive light, encourages a sense of patriotism, and at the end of the poem
reminds people that the men who fought in the war were honorable. It was apparent in the reading that
Tennyson was fascinated with heroism, and reflected that sentiment in his poetry about an

and Dick s Sporting Goods, and a host of other local independent retailers.
Competition Strengths:
• Archery USA and Back Country Outfitters sell highly specialized items that Bass Pro Shops does
not.
• Many people prefer the smaller stores, not wanting to deal with the vastness of Bass Pro Shops.
• R.E.I. challenges Bass Pro with its in store hands on equipment testing.
• Cabela s family owned catalog company provides direct competition to Bass Pro Shops because of
the amount of their catalog sales (estimated to be about the same as Bass Pro s $1.25B).
• L.L. Bean offers excellent customer service and high end goods that beat the Bass Pro Shop lines.

  • 2. District 9 Essay In 2005 Neil Blomkamp made a short film named Alice in Joburg, 4 years later he released the movie District 9 based on the short. The director Neil Blomkamp has told reporters that District 9 was inspired by historical events when Cape Town was declared a whites only area and 60,000 people were forcibly removed (Newsweek, 2016). This theme of acceptance is carried throughout the film via the narratives, soundtracks, and cinematography. The film District 9, shows how acceptance is extremely versatile and fragile. This is accomplished through cinematography, narrative, and the way that Neil Blomkamp has being able to symbolize Wikus Merwe as a very likable and friendly person. District 9 uses film techniques frequently and efficiently to broadcast ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is reflected by the wider community who for the last 20 years have put up with the aliens. Now being hunted Wikus turns to the aliens for help, this completely changes how acceptance is viewed in the movie. Neil adds onto the theme of acceptance with short scenes/clips from the documentary style with audio dubbing over (in past tense) saying how everyone was sorry they had shunned him out of their life s. On top of the audio, clips similar to TV news where shown from the minority point of view dubbing him as a traitor and alien sympathiser. Up until the time when Wikus goes to the aliens for help the constant cinematic documentary style is very similar style around the world. The scenes are shot in a manner very similar to the filming of refugees, this can be seen in the image below (figure 2) demonstrating the similar traits from the real world and the film. High angles are used to show the immensity and scale of the refugees/aliens, similarly low angels are used to show the insignificant and frailness of the occupants. These sub noticeable cinematic effects add onto the theme of acceptance, showing how acceptance is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The World Trade Organization Supervises And Administers... Free trade is a policy in which governments do not pose tariffs or quotas on imports and exports. Many people believe that free trade leads to better reallocation of the resources and higher level of customers satisfaction. The World Trade Organization supervises and administers the international trade and encourages and helps developing agreements and rounds between countries that lead to trade liberalization. The biggest round within WTO and still in process is the Doha Round. The purpose of this essay is to explain the purpose behind the Doha Round negotiations, why the round is difficult to conclude and what the likely consequences are if it fails. First, it will be explained what is the Doha Development Agenda, when did it start, which countries are negotiating, what is done by now. Second, some reasons are given on why is the Doha round difficult to conclude such as the differences in the views and goals between developed and developing countries. If Doha round fails there will be consequences on the WTO, the free trade and therefore on most of the countries in the world. At the end there will be some analysis on whether the Doha round is dead or reborn as the Bali package. The World Trade Organization has 160 countries as members and manages over 95% of the world trade flows. The WTO is a successor of the General Agreements on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), an institution founded after the World War II to promote free trade as crucial for economic stability. ... • 5. The Irony Of Optimism In Voltaire s Candide When Cunégonde is first introduced in the story of Candide By Voltaire the only thing mentioned is her looks. She is described as a seventeen year old ruddy cheeked girl, fresh, plump, and desirable (p. 186). Right off the bat she is presented as a sexually desirable character. This perception of her is what Voltaire eventually uses to nullify philosophical optimism. Cunégonde s first involvement in the plot involved a sexual act. She was walking near the castle when she saw Dr. Pangloss in the underbrush; he was giving a lesson in experimental physics to her mother s maid (p.186). In seeing these two have sex, she then had a sexual fantasy of her own about Candide. This fantasy is what then led up to her physical interaction with Candide that resulted in him getting kicked out of the castle. Twice she has been mentioned in the first two pages of the story and the only understanding a reader ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The world that is, is the best of all possible worlds. The author writes this book to point out the foolishness and the irony of this philosophical thought. Cunégonde s reputation goes along with that. In the real world, men value chastity in women and a woman s virginity is something that she holds dear. When that is stripped away from her without her consent, it is not at all met with the attitude that the characters in Candide have met it with. Characters like Candide himself or evens some of the women in the story like the old woman seem to be very nonchalant about women being sold as prostitutes or being raped. Voltaire uses this as a way to point out to readers the foolishness of this philosophical idea. If in fact, this were the best of all possible worlds, a woman s virtue means nothing and people should not care about it. This is where readers can see that Cunégonde is merely a tool Voltaire uses to invalidate this idea, which shows that her role as a minor character is an significant ... Along the way she encounters several obstacles. Welty throughout the story the author makes several points to connect this work to other famous works of literature to strengthen her character without directly doing so. The author uses imagery to recreate famous parts of The Bible also the main character s name, Phoenix Jackson is a reference to the mystical bird the phoenix which is a symbol for rebirth. Phoenix Jackson symbolically is reborn several times throughout the story. The stories title and main plot point is the path she walks which holds many similarities to the path of life. The first story of the bible that the author relates to A Worn Path is the story of moses parting the red sea. This was illustrated in paragraph twenty eight Parting her way from side to side with her cane.. (Welty) This is one of the more vague relations, but in the third paragraph where Mrs. Jackson yells at wild animals Old Phoenix said, Out of my way all you foxes, owls, beetles, jack rabbits, coons and wild animals!... Keep the big wild hogs out of my path.... (Welty) and this strongly relates to first book of the Bible, genesis where God gives man command over all the animals and sea creatures. However, over the past decade Chinese fireworks companies had made great strides in the Canadian market. As to the domestic market, during the 1990s, increased concerns over environmental pollution and safety of human life and property led more and more cities to regulate he consumption of fireworks and firecrackers. However, all this began to change in the mid 2000s. Beijing lifted a 12 year ban on fireworks in 2005 and other cities followed suit. Over the next ten years, many legal restrictions were lifted. Offensive strategy to increase the sales of fireworks: Speaking of Liuyang, in 1997, seeing the decline of its fireworks sales, Liuyang Firecrackers and Fireworks Industry Department, the government agency in charge of the overall development of the pillar industry, decided to start an offensive strategy. • 12. An Analysis Of Hoch s Photomontage s Spirit Of Our Time Hoch s photomontage was one of many collages that criticized the cultural staleness, depravity, and decaying values of the German state. Through her depiction of German politicians and technology in a state of chaos and confusion, she was effectively able to convince the German people to reevaluate their faith in the government and current cultural values. She used the fast advancing technology of the time (especially mass media) in also advancing her own goals of sardonically criticizing the failings of the German state as well as pushing for gender equality. The other Berlin Dadaist, Raoul Hausmann, created the combine, Spirit of Our Time: Mechanical Head, to criticize the German public s dependence on tools and industry to think and rationalize, stripping away what he perceived made us human (Crockett, 173). The title, Spirit of Our Time, is a metaphor for the German people s inability to enact the change and reform needed to rebuild a better Germany after the horrendous world war (Doherty, 82). The wooden head represents current state of the German people whose extent of thought and logic can only be experienced by the mechanical tools affixed to the outside of his head. The tools attached to his head include a ruler and a tape ruler, a pocket watch, a jewelry box containing a typewriter wheel, a telescopic beaker, and some brass knobs from a camera (artfactory.com). • 13. Medieval Vs. Renaissance Philosophy Collin Kwasigroch Dr. Molvarec History 1002 9/29/17 Medieval Vs Renaissance Philosophy The Medieval Era was a time dominated by belief. People lived with such great superstition and fear of God. Many people were focused not on their lives her on earth, but rather their life after death. During the Renaissance people became more humanistic and focused more on their lives in the moment rather than their afterlife. We can see these changes of Ideas by studying the works of Saint Anselm of Canterbury, Saint Thomas Aquinas, Thomas a Kempis, and Caesarius of Heisterbach from the Medieval Era and compare it to the works of Marsilio Ficino, Leonardo Da Vinci, Niccolo Machiavelli, and Desiderius Erasmus of the Renaissance period we can see ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Here Aquinas argues that everything that happens is the cause of something, but nothing can cause itself. If we trace back a cause all the way back to the beginning of the world, it could not have caused itself. Therefore, God must have been the first cause. Aquinas third proof is the Argument from Contingency. We see that everything here on earth is finite. People die, empires fall. All things must come to an end. That means things had to have a beginning where nothing was in existence yet. How did things come into existence? God. Aquinas s 4th argument is the Argument of Degrees. Here we judge things to be a certain degree of good or bad. But what are we comparing that to? If they have a certain degree of good and bad, then what is the greatest degree of good? And that must be God. Aquinas s final argument is his Argument from Design. Perhaps one of his strongest arguments Aquinas says that there must be an intelligent designer behind everything. Random objects don t have any brains to act the way they do. But they are directed in the way they act by God. Thomas a Kempis is famous for his work in The Imitation of Christ. The book is one of the most famous devotional books for Christians right after the Bible. In his book he tells the common folk how to live like Christ (Hence the name Imitation of Christ ). Already, readers begin to understand the role the setting plays in the novel as the new World State worship a figure of industrial and technological advancements similar to how people of our time worship God. Huxley further creates a disturbing image by elaborately describing every single detail of this new world, from professions such as Director of Hatcheries and Conditioning to technologies like scent organs and vibro vacuum massages. This intense emphasis of detail even helps parody our own world. Christianity has the cross, citizens of the World State have their T . We would say, Thank God! ; they say Thank Ford! . Consequently, while London enjoys the fruits of these advancements, Huxley describes the savage reservation in New Mexico with the same kind of detail, but keeping an emphasis on the primitive characters of this land. The reservation shares a resemblance to that of an exhibition at a zoo, and partly takes that form as Bernard Marx, one of the protagonists, visits the area to examine and view the inhabitants. Since Stevie was one of the youngest people working at Motown, he loved to have fun and play tricks on people by using his handicap. Stevie would say things that made it seem like he could see, so that it would freak people out (Ribowsky 61). Although being blind could be very upsetting to Stevie at times, his attitude towards his disability was not always negative. He sometimes used his handicap to have fun and make the best of dull days at the studio. When Stevie walked into different things in the studio, it didn t frustrate him, it would just make him laugh (Ribowsky 67). Although Stevie loved to have fun and didn t take himself too seriously, his disability made average things very hard for him. While most people could read things off of paper, Stevie had to memorize everything through sound. See, Stevie just worked so hard, cause he had to, bein blind and all, recalls the guitarist Eddie Chank Willis. Everyone else had the chords, the lyrics, everything on paper. Stevie had to memorize it all and Clarence would have gotten all the different little changes in tempo, beat, whatever (Ribowsky 66). • 20. How Does Ice Affect Ice Cream Title: How is the time it takes ice cream to freeze affected when the amount of Sodium Chloride(salt) added to the ice used to freeze the ice cream is changed? Purpose The purpose of the experiment is to see how the freezing process of ice cream is affected when different amounts of Sodium Chloride are added on the ice that is used to freeze it. Background Information The three most common states of matter are solid, liquid and gas. When a person has made ice cream, the ingredients go from a liquid to a solid state which is called freezing. In the liquid state, the substance s molecules are the most loosely packed of the three states of matter and have no definite volume. Because of this, they will usually take the shape of whatever container they are put into. The solid state however is the complete opposite. In this state, the molecules are tightly packed and are unable to move around freely. (Classifications of Matter) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to freeze the ice cream must reach a little below the freezing point of ice, which is 32 degrees Fahrenheit or 0 degrees Celsius. Freezing point deprivation is when the freezing point of a solvent is lowered when a solute is added to it. In this case salt is being added to ice. A common example of freezing point deprivation in real life would be when salt is added to the roads right before it snows. Assuming the temperature is around 32 degrees Fahrenheit, the salt lowers the freezing point of the snow by a few degrees and as a result, the snow melts when it hits the ... Throughout the fourth chapter of the book, he uses language, individuals and groups, and historical events to display his purpose. By the end of the first page of the book, it is clear that Stephen Ambrose s purpose in writing Undaunted Courage was to inform the reader. This is obvious because of his textbook like organization and persistent use of advanced syntax. Ambrose begins the fourth chapter of his book by giving a description of Thomas Jefferson. To what Extent is new knowledge better than old knowledge and therefore can knowledge be permanent? To answer this question, one first has to consider that knowledge as such varies on the point of perspective, since there are many ways of knowing. As for example Reasoning and Sense Perception. Reasoning is something we use whenever we tend to make a decision, therefore the interpretation of the word Reason can vary in the slightest form. Our sense of reason is usually decided by our instinct as we decide almost unconsciously depending on the sort of experience we have had before. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Later given facts proved that the amount of deaths caused by the Swine Flu measured annually were similar to any other of a normal Flu. 1This proves my point that scandals are devised to the wider public to hide real problems. The modern media makes this very easy, as they seem to push the importance of scandals. This can be linked to the area of knowledge History, as it might have been the case with past incidences, and therefore how do we know if they are correct? Today is a time measurement representing the present. This makes me wonder what knowledge exists today? Will it be permanent? To what extent is knowledge temporary? As we have seen in the past, knowledge we have gained previously proves to be wrong over a certain amount of time. If we look back for example people used to believe that the earth was flat. This was predominantly because the technology was not there to research further. So basically a lack of technology hinders us from knowing everything. Can this be applied to us? It is often said that the more you learn the less you know, which conveys much the same problem as the essay. When referring to a person as well educated it usually has to do more with formal education than informal education. When someone is describing a person as well educated, consideration for both formal and informal types of education should be included. Formal education is very important in the early years since children have yet to acquire the necessary fundamental skills. Informal education is very important as well; however, it is learning on a different level. Various studies conducted over the years have shown that informal learning helps solidify the information learned in mind. The phrase penned by John Dalberg, Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely, has become a cliché idiom thrown about when discussing power. Does it really though? Does power really corrupt every man it touches? Power is merely a tool, neither inherently good nor bad. Power, similar to magic , is subject to the one who wields it. If something wicked wields power, the power will lead to wicked things. However, power in the hands of good will lead to good things it is a reflection of the heart. In J.R.R. (Tolkien 49). The men were doomed to die. Similarly, in our world men are doomed to die without the salvation of Jesus, for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, and they are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. (Romans 3:23 24) This is why men in Tolkien s books have such a hard time handling power. For example the nine mortal men give in to the temptation to abuse their power and consequently they turn into wraiths, undying slaves of Sauron. Man s heart is corrupt in Middle Earth same as it is corrupt in our world, and this is why it appears that power always corrupts when it is really just the corruption of man brought to light by the influence of power. • 41. Effects Of A Solar Eclipse What is a solar eclipse? What effect might a solar eclipse have on one? A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the sun and the earth. This makes the sun align behind the moon as it blocks the sun s beautiful and gleaming rays. When the sun is behind the moon, it seems as if it is as dark as night and makes the sun look like a ring of fire high in the sky. During a solar eclipse, many things can happen that one would be astonished by observing such as, the actual object, changes in the atmosphere, animals and people s behavior, and emotional and sensual feelings. The object that appeared in the sky had everyone s attention and concentration, not only that day, but weeks before. Everyone had been talking about the upcoming solar eclipse. Teachers planned lessons, and posters lined the walls to inform students of expectations and safety measures. A solar eclipse, an event appealing to the eye, is an unforgettable phenomenon that can leave someone with the experience of a lifetime. On the day of the eclipse, the view of the sun was oddly bright and dim. The sky was as bright as a sun rise early in a summer s morning. It was so bright I was tempted, yet scared to look at it. The whole Middleton High School separated to go outside and watch the eclipse in different areas. The location where we watched the eclipse only allowed us to see the moon partially blocking the sun. We all saw the sun slowly lose its rays as the moon raced to appear in front. Although the total ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Internet plays a huge paper in the news and communication field, due to the fast, free easy and accessible way for everybody to look for the last news. Because of the increase in the use of the Internet, this information media has become one of the most used information channels over the world. Like everything it has some pros and cons: On the one hand, if we are in the point of view of the newspaper, we save more because we do not use any kind of paper neither ink, nor machinery so our costs are minimum. Another good fact, that has online newspapers, is that you can read the breaking news at the moments that are posted, without waiting until the next day. But for people the most important one is that the newspapers are usually free in the Internet that is why there are more online readers day by day. Whereas, on the other hand, even though there are not so many bad things we find two of them that are the most important. The first one is that as online newspapers are free for the readers the company that manages the newspaper does not win as much as it should before, so the need more publicity. The other one is that as we said before most of them are free but there are also some those if you want to read the newspaper you have to subscribe to it. 2.2 The ways, which we found to encourage the growth of these ... The potato crop failed time and time again. Irish people began to lose hope in receiving better living conditions, but the shipping lanes opened to America after they had been closed by the war (Philip). Irish began to think of the American dream and promise. The American dream and promise changes a nations state of mind. It originally comes from the Declaration of Independence. The promise is all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights. The dream: Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. All of which were things the Irish desired (Pendry). According to Philips, between 1815 and 1816, around 20,000 Irish traveled to the Americas. • 47. Studies on Memories Human beings usually depend on memory to accurately recall or describe the past events that have happened. However, many researchers have shown that human memories can be imperfect and fallible (Lilienfeld et al., 2012). This essay will argue that human memory for the details of past events is not reliably accurate. The evidence for this argument can be seen in two empirical studies which will be reviewed. Schmolck, Buffalo Squire (2000), found that percentage memory distortions and mistaken recollections after 32 months is higher than 15 months. Lastly, Roediger III, Jacoby, and McDermott (1996) found an extensive misinformation effects occurred in memory recall and the effects increase with repeated testing. First evidence is study by Schmolck et al. (2000) which is to examine memory changes about the O.J. Simpson trial verdict after 15 months and 32 months of the incident. The IVs for the study is the time taken for the interview of the participants. The IVs has two levels which are the interview were conducted after 15 months and 32 months of the incident. Even if you can t bear to watch the violence, which is so predominant throughout the movie, there is a lot of emotion, action and even horror that will keep any audience gripped. In this film Gibson uses the devil in the form of a person and he shows us how man is tempted by evil which results in jumps and frights better than most horror films out these days. As far as the violence is concerned, The Passion was very gruesome and disturbing to watch at some points. Some people think it is too much to see someone getting their skin ripped off with metal claws but I think it was a necessary part of the ordeal to which Christ was subjected and it brings home the enormity of what happened. Other films made his crucifixion out to be a graceful and peaceful death almost leaving out the fact that he was nearly flogged to death before even touching his cross. This is not the type of film where you can complain about the story line or say you didn t like the ending, but you do come with an expectation of how you would like them to portray the story. For me I was more than satisfied with how they did it but some more religious people might not like the way little things were changed from the Bible. War and its aftermath are never pretty unless penned by authors who never step into a battlefield. Lives are lost, our fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters have all sacrificed for their causes. Lord Alfred Tennyson romanticized the of notion war and of the battle that was fought on the battlefield in his poem The Charge of the Light Brigade, subsequently, the intent of battle was for the glory of a cause or nation and to remember the bravery of those who fought. On the other, hand Wilfred Owen s poem Dulce et Decorum Est was the opposite, anti romanticism of war, he too did not want the bravery of the men to be lost forever. Each of the poems praised the heroism of the men, one written in a military cadence, and the other written to emphasize the exhaustion and what by now have become the mundane reality of war and the horrific deaths these men suffered. Lord Alfred Tennyson romanticized the notion of war, of the battles that were fought in the battlefields and trenches in his poem The Charge of the Light Brigade.
