Art history allows for a greater understanding of the progression of human thought and how
conditions from one time period to another are reflected in art. Humanity represents itself
through art and by doing so we are able to take a deeper look into the mentality and emotions that
were held within a certain time period. Human studies such as cultural studies or history only
highlight small specific areas of humanity while art history combines the two and gives a
comprehensive look into all factors that influenced not only the art of a certain time but the
events that influenced certain styles. Through the study of art history we are able to see the
different events that caused shifts in prospective and influenced changes in art styles. For
example the iconoclasm during the protestant reformation drastically altered the type of art that
was being produced and greatly limited forward progression of certain styles. All images of God,
Jesus, and any other paintings or sculptures that depicted images of false idols were destroyed or
removed from view. In ancient Egypt, the carved visages of some pharaohs were obliterated by
their successors. The destruction of art was used as a way to influence ideas through out a
community of people. By limiting the growth of art, the recorded history of Christianity was greatly
altered. Humanity is constantly changing and evolving in relation to its surroundings as viewed

Memory written by Paul Fussell. As Fussell states in the opening line, this book is about the

despite the numerous literary awards this book has won, it contains historical inaccuracies and
shortcomings in relation to the accurate information provided that takes away from the prestige

women often reveals itself in television shows, especially in one episode of a television show

Ursula Le Guin s short story The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas is a plotless,
philosophical fiction. Written in 1973, Le Guin tells the dark narrative of a fictional town
which lives in peace with itself. The seemingly happy town houses a dark secret, one so dark
that citizen s of the town leave to escape it. Ursula Le Guin does this by using authorial
intrusion, withholding information, and encouraging her readers to think. Le Guin has written
The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas in such a way that its interpretation depends on the
reader and not the text. It is the reader s perspective in life and the world that shapes the image
he perceives while reading this story. The citizens of Omelas are referred to as they while

The author does this early in the story to show the reader that the people in Omelas are not like

Why I Became A Missouri Resident
As I grew up in a suburb of Missouri I was not very aware of the so called boarder wars that
Kansans and Missourians experienced. I became much more aware of the stereotypes that arose
from either sides of the Stateline once I entered high school. Still a Missouri resident I was not
very familiar with Kansass culture, or even some of the main differences between the two States.
Once my family moved west of the Stateline I finally experienced hands on some of the main
differences. There was a different in culture, as well as a few legal differences. Lots of laws vary
drastically from state to state, and this is something very unique to the United States. Once my
family moved to Kansas there were a few obvious differences, one of which was the ability to
purchase liquor at your grocery store. On the Missouriside one is able to purchase a variety of
liquors with no limits on alcohol percentages by volume from grocery stores, and gas stations.
Additionally, stores are able to sell liquor until midnight on Sundays. Controversially, Kansas s
liquor stores are only able to sell liquor until 8 P.M. on Sundays, which also requires a special
license. Grocery stores in Kansas are only able to sell beverages that have an alcohol percentage
less than 3.2%. An additional difference between Kansas and Missouri are the requirements for
obtaining a drivers license. Kansas has a minimum age requirement of 14 to possess a learner s

It s hard to recognize the fact that the government could not break them down and destroy them.
It s tough to understand how such atrocious behavior became the norm for people in that time
period. It s challenging to hear of such audacities and not get angry. It seems that through history,
