The Big Friendly Giant Analysis
Roald Dahl wrote the big friendly giant as a contribution of his seven year old daughter who passed
away. Dahl was a British World War 2 fighter and later became interested in writing books for adults.
Soon after, he began to write children books and mad big hits off popular books and movies such as
James And the Giant Peach. Roald Dahl had 5 kids and a wife named Patricia Neal. The Big Friendly
Giant was dedicated to Oliva, his daughter, who died of a disease called measles encephalitis which is
swelling of the brain. The book was published in 1982 which was 20 years after died. A person
shouldn t be judged since they are different than you, interpreting someone s ways may contribute to
your outlook on them such as how are they different from you, what are they morals and how the
character behaves. In the book The Big Friendly Giant, a little girl named Sophie was captured from
an orphanage by a giant. The giant was genuine and nice to Sophie, he also was a vegetarian which
revealed he wasn t going to eat Sophie. The Giant was called The Big friendly Giant since he always
treated Sophie respectfully and protected her. The Big Friendly Giant took Sophie to an ancient cave
which was his home. His house was immense to Sophie since he lived in a world where giants exist
and everything was massive. Outside his house lived other giants who were carnivores and mean to
the big friendly giant. The giants who lived outside the cave would go snatch children up and eat
them.

Senior Safety Research Paper
Subject: Risk Management Matters August Newsletter
Programming Idea of the Month Senior Safety Tips
To kick off the new school year, have seniors lead a risk management workshop for the chapter. As
veterans of Kappa and the campus community, they have a wealth of knowledge about how to
navigate unique local safety issues and have a fun and safe time at chapter events. This could include
general safety tips utilizing a campus sober driver program, avoiding a certain street when walking
home at night or social event related advice using the buddy system, never leaving your drink
unattended. Having a variety of speakers also keeps the chapter interested and the chapter typically
respects and listens to seniors.
Tips for Safe Event Planning Check In and Checkout Process
The check in and checkout process is an integral part of monitoring the safety of chapter members and
their dates during a social event. However, what works best for your chapter may be a work in
progress.
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This makes it easy to see who has not been accounted for at the end of the night and gives incentive
for members to follow the checkout process!
Using one central check in and checkout location may not be in the best interest of individual safety
on a sprawling campus. Consider trying two locations for an event to see if this might be a better
option for your chapter.
Try CheckItOut through Google forms. By doing some legwork upfront, this QR code powered
system could make check in and checkout a breeze.
Event post mortems be sure to meet as a Risk Management Committee immediately following an
event to discuss what went well and what can be improved. Take notes so that you can review them
when planning the next event and so you can pass them on to your successor!

The Silk Road In Susan Whitfield s Life Along The Silk Road
Gormley 1
The Silk Road coined by Baron Ferdinand, allowed the general public to travel for purposes other than
survival for the first time. Starting in the second century AD, and ending in the fourteenth, the
development and change experienced within in Eurasia was significant. The Silk Road allowed for not
only silk, but also ideas for improving societies, religion, and nations to spread and develop. All of this
is explained in Life along the Silk Road, written by Susan Whitfield. Her book delves into the lives of
11 people who lived at varying times throughout 730 AD and the end of the first millennia, and shows
the many consequences and uses of the SIlk Road. Through these characters, we see how the Eastern
Hemisphere was ever changing, and being constantly stimulated. Additionally it reveals how even
though lots of people were traveling in generally speaking the same area and had common concerns,
such as climate, soldiers or bandits, they all had totally different experiences because of their reason
for being on The Silk Road.
The Silk Road allowed for all types of new careers and economic boosts. For example, merchant s
were now able to flourish more than ever before. Trading goods was the main currency at this time,
and merchants made a living doing this, it is comparable to the modern day stock exchange. An
example of a common trade during this time would be with bolts of silk, which were easily acquired in
the Chinese capital Chang an, although not nearly as

The Third Artefact For My Portfolio
The third artefact for my portfolio was Assignment 3 in course Mdde 605, titled: Globe Driving
Academy Business Plan. Its purpose was to identify a business structure from the strategic plan and
multi year strategic goals and to reflect the potential for growth. Students were expected to include
financial plans and a balanced scorecard reflecting and measuring an organization s success. This 43
page document covered everything from Business visions, motivation product services, marketing
schemes, governance process, to the Financial Plan for a for profit company which was going to
implement e learning as the next major step to stand out in the industry. Competencies and Reflection
The assignment itself was lengthy and took me a very long time to complete it. Not having a
background in business the most challenging part was doing research on a projected financial plan. It
was with a help of a charted accountant that I was able to accomplish this with actual numbers from
my workplace so all the information is based on true numbers. He taught me how to gather
information on company s projected sales, factors contributing to losses, projected profit, and
comparing with actual profit. This way, it is possible to predict of it is worth investing before investing
and starting new projects in the company. In the end, I was pleased with the final product despite the
frustration of reading multiple business plans, tackling the numbers and understating the swot

Informative Essay On Pablo Escobar
Pablo Escobar was born at Rionegro, Columbia on December 1, 1949. He was brought up from a good
working class family in Medellin, Columbia. Although, he wasn t very wealthy. His mother was an
elementary school teacher and his father was a farmer. The outage that he saw how he could escape
from the working class was by distributing and selling cocaine. Not only was he a Columbian drug
trafficker and drug lord, but he was also a narco terrorist. He was one of the most ruthless person to
ever live. On March 22, 2017, two retired U.S agents came to Laredo Community College to have a
presentation about Pablo Escobar. The two agent s names are Steve Murphy and Javier Pena. They
were both sent to Columbia, to hunt for Pablo. They both told the audience ... Show more content on

When they were in Columbia, there was murders occurring and bombs being set off on the daily as
well. They stated that the Netflix show Narcos is not totally the same as it occurred truthfully. That is
something that I do believe, the producers for the Netflix show may have left out some true things that
may have happened. I personally do admire and respect the people that were on the hunt for Pablo
Escobar. It was a dangerous mission, that they could have been killed any day. Thankfully they didn t.
It was so unbelievable on how much money Pablo was making in a year, especially in a MONTH!
They presented pictures on how much cocaine was found in one laboratory, out of hundreds of them.
The labs is where they would pack the cocaine in plastic bags. Also, the ways on how they would
smuggle the cocaine were unbelievable. Who would have ever thought of looking in a fruit for drugs?
That was really impressive. The way how he would have people killed was extremely viscous! People
s bodies would be tortured and ripped apart. I personally would never have the heart to do that to
anyone, even if I did not like them. Pablo was a man with no compassion and remorse. Then Pablo
was in prison for five years, with his own guards

Why I Became A Gang Member
Before I was a mathematics major, a tutor in college for math and physics, or even a high school
graduate, I was a gang member. I belonged to a local street gang in my community since the age of
fifteen. I have survived, seen, and done things that people only see in movies. I got involved with
gangs at the young age of eleven. Growing up in my neighborhood I didn t really have a choice I got
raised into it, I became a product of my environment influenced by the streets.
At school in the classroom I was always a very intelligent person, a 4.0 student. However, during
lunch time and after school I was a gang leader. My teachers knew it and never could understand why.
They tried to give me advise but I never listened to anyone. I myself did not understand why I was a
gang member. All I knew was people respected me and I was no longer a nerd people picked on.
I was known to be a violent and aggressive person, always looking for a fight in school. I felt invisible
with my reputation people knew I knew how to box and wouldn t mess with me. Along with the
fellow gang members when I spoke they listened and no one was of the contrary. At home however, I
was not of charge. My mom always seemed to be mad so I disliked to be home, I instead roamed the
streets witch had made me the alpha.
I never knew what being a gangster would lead up to, never crossed my mind the change it would
bring to my life so far it had only positive impacts. Girls thought I was cool for the first time and no

The Field Of Physical Therapy
The day to day writing in the field of Physical Therapy varies depending on the audience. The
audience determines the purpose of the writing and writing style. Physical Therapists (PT) use
evidence based exercises and activities to rehabilitate their patients in order for them to reach their
unique goal. Since PT s work with both medical professionals and patients, they must adjust their
writing to be able to communicate effectively. PT s are just one of the many people in the medical
field that may work with a particular patient so it is important that the communication between the
different layers of the medical field are precise and clear. Writing to a patient is also important because

The main audience a PT is writing to are people who have extensive understanding or are in the field.
Their purpose is to use that information for billing and to help make medical decisions which both
greatly impact the patient. Due to the potential impact of their understanding of the PT s writing, the
writing must be specific, descriptive, and contain jargon. A specific documentation layout named
SOAP was created for PT s to use to make sure all essential information is gathered. All PT s follow
the SOAP note format to document patient visits. SOAP notes were created to help keep consistency
through the field and to keep patient records organized and secure. SOAP notes are written to help the
PT critically think about the next step in their client s rehabilitation process. The format is used to
communicate information to other providers of care, to provide evidence of patient contact and to
inform the Clinical Reasoning process (Lowe SOAP Notes ). SOAP documentations aid in informing
and proving PT s work. The content is straight to the point and remains strictly factual which causes
shorter sentences. SOAP stands for subjective, objective, assessment, and plan (Lowe SOAP Notes ).
Each section aides in formulating an evaluation of the client s visit. A PT uses APA citation if they

Examples Of Cosmological Argument
A cosmological argument is defined as an argument for the existence of God which claims that all
things in nature depend on something else for their existence (i.e. are contingent), and that the whole
cosmos must therefore itself depend on a being which exists independently or necessarily. (Davies,
1982)This argument can be first traced back to Plato and Aristotle around 400BC 300BC. (Cornman,
Lehrer, Pappas, 1992)Thomas Aquinas adapted the argument of Aristotle to form one of the most
influential versions of the cosmological argument. His conception of First Cause was the idea that the
Universe must have been caused by something that was itself uncaused, which he believed to be God.
(Aquinas, 1274) He begins the argument with two objections ... Show more content on

Firstly, the argument of motion states that whatever is in motion is put in motion by another, and
nothing cannot put itself in motion. This is a straightforward notion as it is evident to our senses that
things are in motion in the world It is certain, and evident to our senses, that in the world some things
are in motion. (Aquinas, 1274) For something to change into something else, it first must have the
potential to change into that something. Motion is actually the transformation of something from
potentiality to actuality. This can only be carried out by something that is already in actuality. But
nothing can be reduced from potentiality to actuality, except by something in a state of actuality.
Aquinas uses the example of hot and cold to demonstrate potentiality and actuality. If an object
becomes hot, it can only become hot by something that is already hot. The object has the potential to
become both hot and cold, but seeing as it has become hot, it does not have the power to reduce itself
to actuality a hot object, because otherwise, it would simultaneously have the power to become cold.
Therefore, it must be a third party which reduces the object from potentiality to actuality. We can
agree that everything that is in motion is put in motion by something else. (Davies, 1982) Therefore,
whatever is in motion must be put in motion by another. But where did this

people are panicking and someone needs to step up to lead or it will all fall. The perfect person for that
it seems is the hero Captain America. The Captain America propaganda piece is a very effective piece
of propaganda as it uses many different propaganda techniques as well as rhetorical techniques to
persuade its audience to believe that Captain America can protect them. It uses the strategies of pathos

The use of bandwagon is through the whole feeling of everyone should follow him. To jump on
Captain America s, or SHIELD s, bandwagon and believe in them. To trust them and follow them.
That is a very important technique because that is what makes it more political than anything. The
influence of SHIELD is very important because they are making this piece and using Captain America
as the propaganda. Which brings us to flag waving. The use of Captain America in and of itself is flag
waving. He has always been a symbol of freedom and protection. When the audience looks at Captain
America they see a leader. Also the use of Captain America with his shield. The shield is a symbol of
protection, showing that he will protect the people. It also uses the symbol of the Avengers in the
corner. That symbol shows that he is part of a group that protects not just America, but the entire
world. He is concerned with everyone s safety and will lead you on the right path. The Avengers have

Sample Extraction Technique Is Necessary For Various Other...
Mel cepstral feature extraction technique is required in some or the other form in most of the latest
speech and speaker recognition system. Here, first samples of speech are splitted into overlapping
frames. Generally the length of frame is 25 ms and frame rate is 10 ms. Each and every frames are
refined by pre emphasis filter which amplifies higher frequencies. Next is to apply windowing so that
Fourier spectrum for each windowing frame is achieved here Hamming window is used. To obtain
vector of log energy, Mel spaced bank of filter is used which varies from 20 to 40 depending upon the
requirement of particular application. The output of which is converted to give cepstral coefficients
using DCT. Initially for computing the feature vector, 12 coefficients are obtained along with one
energy make its 13 cepstral coefficient. The extended MFCC consist of triple differentiation. 1St order
differentiation is known as Delta coefficient is denoted by _D which has 13 delta cepstral coefficients.
2Nd order differentiation is known as Acceleration coefficient is denoted by _A having 13 delta delta
coefficients. 3Rd order differentiation is known as Third order (Triple delta) coefficient is denoted by
_T which again has 13 triple delta coefficients. Its is said that standard MFCC is given by 39 feature
vector and extended is given by 52 standard vector [1]. When training and testing is performed in
noisy environment, there is severe mismatch which also effects the features.

his great conspiracy. After reading this story, can we ask ourselves, is it really worth it? Iago s
motivation is his love of evil. He has no conscience. He is not able to feel love. Iago treats others as
fools and has no sign of repentance. Ironically, Shakespeare portrays him as honest Iago. Shakespeare
has built the character of Iago from an idea already existing in the theatrical culture of his

can be defined as a human being with no free will. She cannot make her free choices. She cannot love.

Essay On Revitalization And Infra-Structural Labor
Rendering Vacancy Technical: Revitalization and Infra Structural Labor in Chicago
I. Introduction
The City of Chicago is using innovative programs to turn vacant land and buildings, cast as detritus,
into a resource for spurring community centered development in disinvested neighborhoods. Focusing
on the diverse forms of labor behind Chicago s vacancy initiatives, the proposed research will
examine how these initiatives are reworking the political economic forces that produce landscapes of
(dis)accumulation (Gilmore 2002:15) and recasting historical entanglements of waste, race and space.
This study comes at a critical juncture in U.S. urbanization. Mass foreclosures in the wake of the
housing crisis exacerbated the vacancy, population ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bridging these literatures enables two theoretical contributions. The first builds on urban political
economy s insight into capital s role in organizing urban landscapes. Scholars in this tradition
demonstrate the destruction brought on by capital s ceaseless pursuit of profit; the political and
discursive technologies that create new frontiers of accumulation in the detritus of this creative
destruction (Harvey 2003); and the dispossession that ensues when devalorized spaces re enter capital
s radar. Crucial to capital s circulation are purification campaigns (Merrifield 2002) that render
devalorized spaces attractive to new investment. My research focuses on the labor of purification. By
using discard studies insights to study redevelopment politics, I conceptualize the work of purification
as infra structural labor (Gidwani 2015) that clears land of disinvestment s residues to accommodate
future accumulation. This offers a new way of theorizing the production of urban space by revealing
that pivotal in organizing post recession landscapes are not only the profit seeking actions of finance
and real estate capital but also the quotidian labor of revalorization. Given the confluence of austerity
with vacancy, depopulation, and plummeting property values across the Rust Belt, attention to this
labor is timely and illuminates a key site for theoretical and policy

Technology’s Detrimental Effects on Communication
Recent advancements in technology, especially social networking, have severely hindered the
communication skills of today s society by promoting edited, impersonal and staged communication.
Today s society places a high value on websites such as Facebook, MySpace and Twitter; so much so,
that it is startling when someone does not own a profile on a social network. The dependency on
technological communication continues to reduce the ability of today s generation to read body

from the communication skills needed to hold a conversation in the flesh. It requires a level of grace
and mindfulness to communicate in the real world, especially when it comes to arguments and matters
of great importance. (Such as proposing to your significant other, or a job interview.) When you type a

communication allows for the user to edit and censor their thoughts before they are sent out in a

not translate well to genuine conversation. Since many people rely on spell check and the delete

daily newspaper or on the shopping cart one picks up at the grocery store, exposure to these ads is
inescapable. Most are these ads are harmless, wanting only to catch the attention of potential
customers and invest them in their product. The companies make use use of pathos ( for example the
Budweiser commercials with the puppy and horse), logos (the Geico 15 minutes could save you 15%
or more... ), or ethos (Jamie Fox using his iPhone 6s in Apple s latest ads) to sell their product. Some
companies, however, employ extreme tactics to stand out. They create ads that target human s natural
inclination to use sex and violence. More often ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within the advertisement they broadcast systemically reenforced and exaggerated a large number of
stereotypes about both men and women. Some may wonder, however, how this really effects everyday
life. If someone sees so many ads in a day what is one more, one that is just a bit more sexist than the
typical beer ad. While this it is true that the average person is overstimulated by the number of ads as
it is there is still something to be said for the content of the ads. Even if a person doesn t mentally
acknowledge them the brain still notes them and stores them in the brain. If time after time one sees
women in the submissive role or treated as objects, chances are they will start subconsciously
believing it. On the other hand if men are constantly portrayed as stupid and hormone driven then that
bias will start to seep into reality. There are also significant moral issues with this ad, if time after time
women are portrayed simply as a visual feast it changes how they will be treated for the rest of their
lives. Next time they walk down the street theres a chance a man may catcall her, acknowledging the
fact that she was in some way appealing to him. He doesn t do this because she is smart, funny or kind
he does this simply because he was pleased by her appearance and may even think he is
complementing her. However, by doing this he reenforces what the media has

Anna O Case Study
Case of Anna O Carey Wolf Argosy University 2016 Case of Anna O Background Anna O was 21
year old patient of Breuer. Anna O had developed strange symptoms while taking care of her father
who was ill. She developed a cough along with paralysis, hallucinations, hysteria, and loss of feeling
in her arms and legs as well as muscle spasms. Breuer could not figure out why Anna was
experiencing these types of symptoms so he deemed it hysterical neurosis (Heller, 2005). While under
hypnosis Anna s symptoms were not as severe and she could recall dramatic events that had taken
place in her life prior to her symptoms. We now know that Freud used Anna s case to help develop his
clinical experience even though he never treated or worked with her. Freud implemented free

The repressed and non repressed unconscious tends to function side by side. The repressed

Should Speed Limits Be Allowed
I feel that the regulation of speed limits is acceptable. It s safe and responsible when driving on certain
roads. Having limitations on the speed limits reduces deaths and injuries from car crashes.
Additionally, having reduced speed limits near parks and schools, protects the community and the
children living there. People should feel a sense of obligation to follow the speed limits when they
drive.
First, I feel when driving with speed limitations make it safer and responsible for drivers. Without
these limitations, it can put people at risk of car crashes. Car crashes occur every day, so imagine if
there were no speed limits at all how many crashes would occur. No one will know how fast or how
slow to go for the person ahead or behind

Organizational Functions And Employee Relations During The...
Since the turn of the 19th century, there has been a dramatic overhaul of administrative practices.
Through trial and error, organizations have altered their management practices in pursuit of better
results. These changes in administrative theory can be sorted into five different themes. This includes
organization functions, employee relations, open systems, social equity, and client oriented
(Cronkhite, 2012). Each theme provides a unique perspective on how to run a successful agency. The
purpose of this paper will be focusing on the themes of organization functions and employee relations
during the industrial era.
Before discussing the administrative theories, it is important to understand the historical context
behind these theories. The industrial era is the time period from the 1880s to the 1950s, which
represents the aftermath of the industrial revolution (Cronkhite, 2012). The industrial revolution is
often revered for its significant advancements in technology and manufacturing. There was a striking
shift in focus from agricultural goods to manufactured goods in factory settings (Harley, 2003). This
influenced a mass migration of the population from rural areas to bustling cities (Harley, 2003).
Commencing an age of economic prosperity and dominance in America.
Despite this significant advancement in industry and economic growth, the industrial era introduced
an abundance of problems (Harley, 2003). Horrifying living conditions, overcrowding, child labor, and

Literary Elements In The Shawl By Cynthia Ozick
The Shawl s Literary Elements:
Analysis of the short story s theme, imagery, and symbols In The Shawl , Cynthia Ozick uses theme,
imagery, and symbols to present her short story s setting. As Ozick presents the plot, she emphasizes
on these three literary elements (theme, imagery, and symbolism) to exaggerate and organize her short
story. The Shawl is about a mother named Rosa, Magda (her blue eyed blonde hair infant baby), and
her older daughter Stella who are forced to march in harsh conditions at a concentration camp. The
characters are weak and struggling to survive. Cynthia Ozick describes the struggle by stating their
body parts are like tumors on sticks . Rosa is forced to carry her infant baby in a shawl, comparing it
to a walking cradle . The shawl that Magda is wrapped in offers her comfort by proving her with food
and entertainment (keeping her calm and quiet). The shawl is also hiding Magda from the guards, until
Stella takes Magda s shawl for herself for warmth. Magda then begins to scream and yell out for the
first time since the characters have been in the concentration camp. Rosa tries her best to ease her
baby by chasing after the shawl, but she is not fast enough. This results to the guard taking Magda and

Good And Evil In The Film Merlin
The film Merlin (1998), produced by Hallmark Home Entertainment and directed by Steve Baron,
based on an Arthurian myth explores the role of good and evil, the idea of equality and gender roles in
their society. Myths have been told since human society had formed, teaching people important
lessons and morals. Myths communicate everything from what is ethically right to lessons and morals
that prevent regrettable mistakes. Through the film seen from Merlin s perspective, it will be evident
that such complex myths can, when broken down, teach such important lessons and morals.
Good and evil in Merlin is somewhat vague; it is difficult to know who is good and who is evil. Not
everything is black and white, and you cannot simply decide who is good and evil. In Merlin the ...

Lord Lot does not kill King Arthur and admits to King Arthur being the true king. King Arthur gathers

Queen Guinevere was saved but Arthur lost his men because of stopping the execution of Queen

The Steinbeck s Book And The Migrant s Choice Of Words...
Having The Grapes of Wrath and Their Eyes Were Watching God on my library shelf occurred
because the two novels are required summer reading for my junior year language arts class. I doubt I
ever would have read Hurston s book, but Steinbeck s book is known to me. So, I took advantage of
this opportunity, to become involved with Tom Joad (and his family) and Janie Crawford (and her
grandmother and three husbands). From my reading, I saw connections with the issues of power and
self fulfillment, survival, family life and relationship, and community connections. Both books take
place in the 1930 s; one in rural Florida and the other from Oklahoma to California. The writing style
in the books relies on conversation indicative to the identity of the characters and the setting. The
initial problem I had is reading the southern dialect spoken by the characters in Hurston s book and the
migrant s choice of words and speech patterns in Steinbeck s book. Eventually, I succumbed to it and
became engaged with the character s determination and the impact of events on their lives as the
stories evolved.
Power is important in both books. For the Joads and the migrants it is confronting and dealing with the
landowners. The idea of power results in a bond between the Joads and the Wilsons, and later
incorporates the other migrant families. I see this as an example of self preservation. On the other
hand, for Janie, power of others prevents her from achieving independence and self

Alternate Ways of Measuring Performance Essay
Balanced Scorecard Alternate Ways of Measuring Performance Abstract
Many organizations are usefully viewed as a web of relationships between and among various
stakeholder groups. An organization may be defined as a nexus of contracts, where said contracts are
relationships that are marked by contributions from the various stakeholders in return for inducements
provided by the organization. Over the long haul, the success of an organization is a function of the
extent to which the needs and requirements of its various stakeholders can be integrated and balanced,
without sacrificing any one to the other. There is, in this arrangement, mutual influence and
accountability. It is the main thesis of this paper that many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

A successful balanced scorecard implementation must also incorporate a communication mechanism,
which allows management to communicate its strategic vision and goals to the employees, who, in
return, can also report their processes and progress back to management.
Multidimensional Architecture
Since an organization is composed of multiple levels, a scorecard must support different levels and
perspectives from strategic business units and divisions, to departments, teams and individuals. To
accommodate this architecture, the scorecard is structured as multiple, aggregated cubes. Each layer a
nesting of the ones below. In general, the highest level cube defines the measures and dimensions that
apply to the corporate level, and these drill through to divisional and departmental cubes that have a
more detailed level of information (Nickols, 1999). This artery of the cubes lets the strategy
communicate down the organization, while performance is aggregated up through the organization
like blood through vein.
Cubes are an ideal vehicle to implement a hierarchical architecture. You can have both logical and
physical separation of the data; i.e., data can reside in one cube where different views are offered to
different users, or alternately data can be maintained in completely separate cubes. In cases where the
data is inconsistent, it may be allocated to provide managers with more

During medieval times, a knight was expected to be loyal to those above him, and come serve them
when it was time to fight, and The great peers of the kingdom could call upon minor lords in their
dominions to come fight on their side, under one banner, but they all rallied towards the King, and
disobeying him was extremely frowned upon (Jokinen). Near the end of the middle ages, this loyalty
became a system known as Livery and Maintenance, and contributed greatly to the military aspects of
the Wars of the Roses. Livery and Maintenance was the practice of keeping large numbers of knights
on reserve, essentially a lord s personal standing army. These knights would wear the Lord s badge
and livery, which, in addition to payment for their service, gave them a sort of prestige, as long as their
lord was powerful. Since Lords could raise their own private armies, they had the choice to refuse
support to the king if they did not like him. This was a massive change in the structure of feudalism,
as standing up against the King was generally impossible without an army. The houses of Lancaster

like Richard Neville, sometimes called The Kingmaker. Livery and Maintenance gave the Noble class

The No Child Left Behind ( Nclb ) Act Launching America s...
In 2001, President George W. Bush signed the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act launching America
s education system into an era of standardized testing as a method of holding states and schools
accountable for student achievement. With this recent surge of high stakes standardized testing,
teachers are held to increasingly higher expectations of quality instruction and meeting these
standards. However, schools are unprepared in achieving the goals of NCLB resulting in years of
struggle to improve student success in testing due to flaws in the traditional grading system. Current
schools and teachers lack proper grading practices that are inadequate of accurately representing
student achievement. With the increased focus on standards, it is imperative that schools begin to
implement an effective grading system so that all students and parents are provided accurate feedback
of students abilities.
There are myriad unforeseen consequences when schools use the traditional grading system. For the

Theme Of The Book Thief And The Things They Carried
Do you like war? Do you despise war? Have you ever attempted to help someone during a war,

Rosa Hubermann and they helped harbor a Jew during WWII. In The Things They Carried, is about a
soldier named Jimmy Cross who adores an English major named Martha and then one of the soldiers
gets shot and assassinated which makes Jimmy forget about Martha and become a better leader. In The
Book Thief and The Things They Carried have some similarities and differences and some of them I ll
explain with literary devices. The theme for The Book Thief is death/war/brutality and the theme for
The Things They Carried is to focus on what s more important than yourself. For my opening body
paragraph, one important literary device that both authors used is symbolism. In The Book Thief,
Markus Zusak starts of the symbol around the end of the book. Even though The Book Thief is a
morbid and a demonic book which has a lot of war and death in it, the dominoes represents how they,
were falling like dead bodies in the living room. (410). Well, in The Things They Carried, it also has
the same symbol which relates back to dominoes and how Tim protested against the war, but not
enough to be considered a pacifist. Also, how he thought about, Ho Chi Minh a Communist stooge, or
a nationalist savoir, or both, or neither?... What about SEATO and the Cold War? What about

The Tenets Of Behaviorism
The term behaviorism referred to the school of psychology founded by John B. Watson based on the
proposition that all things which organisms do including acting, thinking and feeling can and should
be regarded as behaviors (Staddon, 2001) . And this behavior could be researched scientifically .
According to Pavlov, Respondent Conditioning resulted from the association of two stimuli, such as
causing dogs to salivate at the sound a tuning fork. Consequently, Skinner developed Operant
Conditioning where the Stimulus Response association was elicited through selective reinforcement
(rewards or punishments) to shape behavior. In this regard, behaviorism assumed that a learner was a
passive recipient and responding to environmental stimuli. When applying the tenets of Behaviorism
to teaching, Skinner asserted that the learner started off as a blank slate, and then his behavior was
shaped via positive or negative reinforcement. Behaviorist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Cognitive theorists may have wanted to understand how problem solving changed throughout

emphasized that learners were not a programmed animals or passive receivers that respond merely to

The Greatest Consummation Of Harriet Tubman
Harriet Tubman started off as a lowly thrall, but died a remarkable hero. Harriet Tubman wasn t her
real name, her birth name was Minty Ross. It was important for her to change her name because she
was an escaped thrall trying to help other thralls gain their freedom. So she needed a new identity.
Harriet was around twenty seven when she escaped vassalage. Harriet joined a secret network known
as the Underground Railroad to unrestrained thralls. Soon after Harriet became a spy for the Civil War,
from there she became a Civil War wellness solicitude craftswoman. After the war, she was a
caregiver for the rest of her life. I was asked to define Harriet Tubman s greatest consummation. I will
also rank her consummations by the amount of risk, the amount of people she helped, and the amount
of time the consummation took. My definition of greatest consummation means a skill or effort given
with an interest above average. Harriet Tubman s life is full of many accomplishments. Here, I have
rated them from the most important. In my personal point of view, her greatest consummation was
being a Civil War spy, her second greatest consummation was being a conductor on the Underground
Railroad and lastly, her third greatest consummation was being a Civil War wellness solicitude
craftswoman and caregiver.
Harriet Tubman s most important consummation was being a Civil War spy. Harriet Tubman helped
many people as a spy, without her work helping thralls, it would have been very hard.

There were several fortes to this work with increase and decrease in intensity. There was a lot of

first and second violins playing. There was a number of variations in the dynamics and the additions
of other instruments. I could distinguish at times the different instruments that were playing. The
thematic development was in the second movement. This lead to the well known dotted eight note

The Purpose Of Prison Reform
What is the purpose of prison? It is believed that prison serves the purpose of punishing criminals for
their wrongdoing and then releasing them back into society, ready to live a better life. Although in
today s times, it is more about punishment and not so much about rehabilitation. It is clear that prison
is a pretty bad place, and that prison reform programs are way more effective at rehabilitation.
Most U.S. prisons today are more focused on punishment than rehabilitation. After all, a prison in
America is not a pleasant place to be. The environment of most prisons is tough and violent which can
lead inmates to develop aggressive behaviors. A study called the Stanford Prison Experiment showed
that prisoners without any mental illness can end up developing one during their time in prison
(Benson). In addition, every year, around 217,000 prisoners in America are raped (McElwee). The
conditions inside prisons can be damaging to inmates in all sorts of ways. ... Show more content on

Once a prisoner is discharged, they will find it difficult to transition back into society, and they find
themselves back at where they started. For example, having a criminal record will make it harder to
find a job, since businesses are less likely to hire people who have one, so a majority of former
prisoners will likely turn back to crime in order to make a living. This is one of the main reasons why
the U.S. has one of the largest rearrest rates in the world, as 67.8% of offenders are rearrested after
being released from prison within three years (NIJ). Sometimes, prison can even do the opposite of
rehabilitation. It is clear that prison is not an effective solution and that something needs to be

An Analysis of “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night”
An analysis of Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night This poem was written by Dylan Thomas who
had been acknowledged as one of the most important Welsh poets of the 20th century. The poem is a
son s plea to his dying father. Thomas shows four different kinds of people in four stanzas wise men,
good men, wild men and grave men so as to encourage his father to fight against death rather than to
accept in silence. The tone used in the poem is passionate and intense. Rage, rage against the dying of
the light (line 3) is an attitude the old is supposed to hold. Old age should burn and rave at close of day
(line 2) is exactly the theme that the poet wants to pass on. Though wise men at their end know dark ...

Blind eyes could blaze like meteors (line 14) This is a metaphor that means grave men never
distinguish their hope and always hold a passionate attitude towards life. A disabled person still can
fight against the doom. Why healthy people give in to death? In the last stanza, the poet points out that
this poem is particularly written for his dying father. Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I
pray. (line 17) In this sentence, curse , bless , fierce and tears all have the rhyme s which makes the
tone soft sounding. Thomas begs his father to die with anger, not humility. Whatever the ways, the
curse or bless, the poet can bear it so long as his father not surrender to death. This poem is structured
in a form called villanelle, which has 19 lines long, but only uses two rhymes. In this poem, night ,
light , right , bright , flight , sight and sight all end with t sound and day , they , bay , way , gay and
pray all end with ei sound. The rhythm of this poem follows as aba, aba, aba, aba, aba, abaa .
Moreover, it is clear to see that first five stanzas are triples and last stanza is a quatrain, which is also
another standard of villanelle. There are two refrains in the poem. Do not go gentle into that good
night. (line 1) is repeated in line 6, line 12 and line 18. Rage, rage against the dying of the light. (line
3)is repeated in line 9, line 15 and line 19. Thomas urges his

The Influence of Organizational Culture on Organizational...
Rizescu, M. (2011). Orgainzational Culture Influences on the Organization s Functionality. Revista
Academie ForTelor Terestre. 1( 61): 75 82. Globalization has brought the world closer in
communication, economics, politics, and especially business. The Internet and technological
improvements have allowed instantaneous communication almost anywhere, and even poor women in
India are using Smartphones to manage their banking portfolios. The idea of globalism continues to
break down cultural barriers. As this continues it will be essential for organizations to not only
understand, but embrace cultural differences and styles (Trebing and Estabrooks, 2005). Clearly, the
changing demands of global stakeholders require new ways of approaching divergent customer bases.
There are differences in style, skill, education and attitude in every organization now accentuated
when we think of the multi national organization. Correctly managed, this diversity can be a huge
bonus to the organization. Organizations are far more effective once they understand and use diversity
within their strategic and tactical planning process. Also, the new paradigm for global management
includes creating and maintaining a diverse work environment in which cultural diversity is encourage
and celebrated, rather than simply acknowledged (We need to identify and understand how our
differences impact our relationships with other employees and customers. We also must create and

After our first meeting it became clear that Mr. Unger was resigned to the fact that he needs to make
major changes in his life. The fact that he lost his wife and nearly lost his best friend, as well, were
clearly weighing heavily on him. Mental Status Examination: Mr. Unger is approximately 55 years
old, is Caucasian American, and recently separated from his wife with whom he has two school aged
children. He dresses impeccably in pressed suits and polished shoes. He is clean cut and shaven. His
hair is cut short and is neatly parted to one side. He has a rigid and stiff posture. He displays rigidity in
his thought content which are manifested in preoccupations with cleanliness and his family affairs. He
is inflexible in his personality. His wife recently separated from him and called him impossible to live
with. During their relationship he displayed a huge need to be in control by doing things such as re
cooking a meal she made because he felt he could do a better job or obsessive cleaning their apartment
and complaining when she was messy. While he loved her very much and had a sense that he was
annoying her, he is so inflexible in his personality that he was unable to make changes. Mr. Unger s
mood is normally elevated due to his obsessive compulsive nature. He is generally pre occupied with

The Second Treatise Of Government By Locke
One of Locke s most influential writings was his Second Treatise of Government . In this essay, Locke
discusses his ideal version of government, in which a social contract is exchanged between the
subjects and the government in power. In discussing this social contract, Locke provides a distinction
between express consent and tacit consent. In our discussion today, much of our time will be spent
discussing tacit consent. For our purposes, we will define tacit consent as a nonverbal, implied,
voluntary act of permission or agreement. In Locke s Second Treatise of Government , he asserts that
all individuals are equal and independent, so thus no one is superior over another. In governments
though, there is a fundamental hierarchical nature in which there are leaders, who are superior, than
say, the subjects. In order to fix this problem, Locke introduces the concept of Tacit Consent. Locke
sums up tacit consent by saying And to this I say, that every man, that hath any possessions, or
enjoyment, of any part of the dominions of any government, cloth thereby give his tacit consent, and
is as far forth obliged to obedience to the laws of that government, during such enjoyment, as any one
under it; Basically, if an individual is benefitting from resources given to them by the government,
then they have tacitly consented to also accept the burdens of that government and follow the laws set
forth by that government. So, have we as a nation, provided tacit consent to the US

  • 12. Examples Of Cosmological Argument A cosmological argument is defined as an argument for the existence of God which claims that all things in nature depend on something else for their existence (i.e. are contingent), and that the whole cosmos must therefore itself depend on a being which exists independently or necessarily. (Davies, 1982)This argument can be first traced back to Plato and Aristotle around 400BC 300BC. (Cornman, Lehrer, Pappas, 1992)Thomas Aquinas adapted the argument of Aristotle to form one of the most influential versions of the cosmological argument. His conception of First Cause was the idea that the Universe must have been caused by something that was itself uncaused, which he believed to be God. Firstly, the argument of motion states that whatever is in motion is put in motion by another, and nothing cannot put itself in motion. This is a straightforward notion as it is evident to our senses that things are in motion in the world It is certain, and evident to our senses, that in the world some things are in motion. (Aquinas, 1274) For something to change into something else, it first must have the potential to change into that something. Motion is actually the transformation of something from potentiality to actuality. This can only be carried out by something that is already in actuality. But nothing can be reduced from potentiality to actuality, except by something in a state of actuality. Aquinas uses the example of hot and cold to demonstrate potentiality and actuality. If an object becomes hot, it can only become hot by something that is already hot. The object has the potential to become both hot and cold, but seeing as it has become hot, it does not have the power to reduce itself to actuality a hot object, because otherwise, it would simultaneously have the power to become cold. Therefore, it must be a third party which reduces the object from potentiality to actuality. We can agree that everything that is in motion is put in motion by something else. (Davies, 1982) Therefore, whatever is in motion must be put in motion by another. But where did this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Crucial to capital s circulation are purification campaigns (Merrifield 2002) that render devalorized spaces attractive to new investment. My research focuses on the labor of purification. By using discard studies insights to study redevelopment politics, I conceptualize the work of purification as infra structural labor (Gidwani 2015) that clears land of disinvestment s residues to accommodate future accumulation. This offers a new way of theorizing the production of urban space by revealing that pivotal in organizing post recession landscapes are not only the profit seeking actions of finance and real estate capital but also the quotidian labor of revalorization. Through trial and error, organizations have altered their management practices in pursuit of better results. These changes in administrative theory can be sorted into five different themes. This includes organization functions, employee relations, open systems, social equity, and client oriented (Cronkhite, 2012). Each theme provides a unique perspective on how to run a successful agency. I doubt I ever would have read Hurston s book, but Steinbeck s book is known to me. So, I took advantage of this opportunity, to become involved with Tom Joad (and his family) and Janie Crawford (and her grandmother and three husbands). From my reading, I saw connections with the issues of power and self fulfillment, survival, family life and relationship, and community connections. Both books take place in the 1930 s; one in rural Florida and the other from Oklahoma to California. The writing style in the books relies on conversation indicative to the identity of the characters and the setting. The initial problem I had is reading the southern dialect spoken by the characters in Hurston s book and the migrant s choice of words and speech patterns in Steinbeck s book. Eventually, I succumbed to it and became engaged with the character s determination and the impact of events on their lives as the stories evolved. Power is important in both books. For the Joads and the migrants it is confronting and dealing with the landowners. The idea of power results in a bond between the Joads and the Wilsons, and later incorporates the other migrant families. I see this as an example of self preservation. On the other hand, for Janie, power of others prevents her from achieving independence and self ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Near the end of the middle ages, this loyalty became a system known as Livery and Maintenance, and contributed greatly to the military aspects of the Wars of the Roses. Livery and Maintenance was the practice of keeping large numbers of knights on reserve, essentially a lord s personal standing army. These knights would wear the Lord s badge and livery, which, in addition to payment for their service, gave them a sort of prestige, as long as their lord was powerful. Since Lords could raise their own private armies, they had the choice to refuse support to the king if they did not like him. • 42. An Analysis of ‚ÄúDo Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night‚Äù An analysis of Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night This poem was written by Dylan Thomas who had been acknowledged as one of the most important Welsh poets of the 20th century. The poem is a son s plea to his dying father. Thomas shows four different kinds of people in four stanzas wise men, good men, wild men and grave men so as to encourage his father to fight against death rather than to accept in silence. The tone used in the poem is passionate and intense. Rage, rage against the dying of the light (line 3) is an attitude the old is supposed to hold. Old age should burn and rave at close of day (line 2) is exactly the theme that the poet wants to pass on. Though wise men at their end know dark ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Blind eyes could blaze like meteors (line 14) This is a metaphor that means grave men never distinguish their hope and always hold a passionate attitude towards life. A disabled person still can fight against the doom. Why healthy people give in to death? In the last stanza, the poet points out that this poem is particularly written for his dying father. Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray. (line 17) In this sentence, curse , bless , fierce and tears all have the rhyme s which makes the tone soft sounding. Thomas begs his father to die with anger, not humility. Whatever the ways, the curse or bless, the poet can bear it so long as his father not surrender to death. This poem is structured in a form called villanelle, which has 19 lines long, but only uses two rhymes. In this poem, night , light , right , bright , flight , sight and sight all end with t sound and day , they , bay , way , gay and pray all end with ei sound. The rhythm of this poem follows as aba, aba, aba, aba, aba, abaa . Moreover, it is clear to see that first five stanzas are triples and last stanza is a quatrain, which is also another standard of villanelle. There are two refrains in the poem. Do not go gentle into that good night. (line 1) is repeated in line 6, line 12 and line 18. Rage, rage against the dying of the light. (line 3)is repeated in line 9, line 15 and line 19. • 46. The Second Treatise Of Government By Locke One of Locke s most influential writings was his Second Treatise of Government . In this essay, Locke discusses his ideal version of government, in which a social contract is exchanged between the subjects and the government in power. In discussing this social contract, Locke provides a distinction between express consent and tacit consent. In our discussion today, much of our time will be spent discussing tacit consent. For our purposes, we will define tacit consent as a nonverbal, implied, voluntary act of permission or agreement. In Locke s Second Treatise of Government , he asserts that all individuals are equal and independent, so thus no one is superior over another. In governments though, there is a fundamental hierarchical nature in which there are leaders, who are superior, than say, the subjects. In order to fix this problem, Locke introduces the concept of Tacit Consent. Locke sums up tacit consent by saying And to this I say, that every man, that hath any possessions, or enjoyment, of any part of the dominions of any government, cloth thereby give his tacit consent, and is as far forth obliged to obedience to the laws of that government, during such enjoyment, as any one under it; Basically, if an individual is benefitting from resources given to them by the government, then they have tacitly consented to also accept the burdens of that government and follow the laws set forth by that government.
