What I Visited The Newport Back Bay Visitors Center
General Description I visited the Newport Back Bay Visitors Center. It is located in the Newport
Back Bay for people to visit and learn about the wonderful Back Bay that is only steps from our
very own school, CDM. The history of the Back Bay goes back a long time. In the 18th century
when the Spanish arrived in Californiaplaces like the Back Bay were very abundant. However by
1975 less than 10% remained in between Santa Barbra and Mexico. In 1960 plans were made to
make the back bay a large marina with houses right along the water. But in 1967 when a group of
citizens founded the Friends of Newport Bay they fought to keep this from happening. It was
also founded to help bring attention to the ecological importance of the Bay and to help try and
ensure its survival. As a result of the Friends of Newport Bay the Upper Newport Bay Ecological
Reserve was founded in 1975. Seven years latter in 1982 more land was added at Big Canyon.
Five years later, in 1989 what is now known as Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve was
established on the neighboring bluffs after the County of Orange acquired an additional 140
acres. Eleven years after in 2000 the Friends and the Naturalists joined forces to become the
Newport Bay Naturalists Friends. Most recently, in 2010 it was elected to change the name of this
organization to the Newport Bay Conservancy, which is the name that stands today. The visitor s
center helps inform people of the intricate Back Bay, how it is being preserved,

I would most definitely recommend this book. It will take the reader on a spectacular journey of
emotions. When I say this I mean the way this book flows will leave your mind blown. You will
think you know how the book is going to end and how everything will work out but it will
confuse you in the best way possible and leave you speechless when you finish. This is because
the author Lauren Oliver knows how to manipulate the mind and In a way that makes you think
you know how things will end up but at the last second possible twist the story around and
jumbles your mind which may not be something everyone enjoys but in my opinion I thoroughly
enjoyed it. I think that sisters should read this book. I think this because this book shows the
true bond of what sisters would do for each other. It is a great eye opener for people who take
their sisters for granted. However while reading this book I feel as though it is best suited for
teenagers. I think this because throughout the book there is talk about mature content that is not
appropriate for all ages such as alcohol and drugs. My final opinion of this book is a fantastic roller
coaster of words. I think this because it truly is a work of art and it will take you on a roller
coaster ride that will play with your emotions which is something I think a good book should do
and I would strongly recommend that anybody who also thinks that should read this book. All in
all I am very glad that I chose to read this book because I know it will change how I act for the

That eigenvector is showing us how these two data sets are related along that line. The second
eigenvector gives us the other, less important, pattern in the data, that all the points follow the
main line, but are off to the side of the main line by some amount. So, by this process of taking
the eigenvectors of the covariance matrix, the user is able to extract lines that characterise the data.
Figure 4. Plot of the data and eigenvectors Step 5: Choosing components and forming a feature
vector If you look at the eigenvectors and eigenvalues from the previous section, you will notice
that the eigenvalues are quite different values. In fact, it turns out that the eigenvector with the
highest eigenvalue is the principle component of the data set. In our example, the eigenvector with
the largest eigenvalue was the one that pointed down the middle of the data. It is the most
significant relationship between the data dimensions. In general, once eigenvectors are found
from the covariance matrix, the next step is to order them by eigenvalue, highest to lowest. This
gives the components in order of significance. If decided, one can ignore the components of lesser
significance. Some information will be lost, but if the eigenvalues are small, the lost won t be
much. If some components are left out, the final data set will have less dimensions than the
original. To be precise, if originally there are n dimensions in

Not only were these contributions added, but the entire scientific process had been laid in in what
we now know as the Scientific Method, the most basic structure of good science. These islamic
scholars themselves preserved the writings of many famous greek philosophers like Aristotle,
Plato, and Socrates, thus showing that there was no predominant aggression between the two.
After the decline of the Islamic Golden Age came the rise of Christianity around the 12th century
and was the next seat of knowledge. At this point there was no apparent schism between theism
versus science. During the beginning of this century and the next religion and science

Research Paper On Sonic Waves
Whether or not you realize it, there is energy all around us. This energy changes and influences
the way the world works. When someone tells you to think of energy, the first thing that likely
comes to mind is electricity or heat, as that is what we commonly see and hear about. If you are
asked to think of a powerful kind of energy, you may think of radiation or fire, as they can kill
people and destroy forests. Although these may be the most obvious kinds of energy, there is
another kind of energy that can be both more helpful and more dangerous; shock waves. These
waves surround us, yet we have only just began to explore their many uses. Shock waves can be
used by animals and humans for both utility and offense.

A rumor that almost everyone has heard of or seen at one point is an opera singer breaking glass
with nothing but their voice. Although it seems like an awesome power, it is sadly less than real.
The idea is that the performer would sing at the objects resonant frequency loud enough to shatter
the glass. Resonant frequency is the frequency that an object vibrates at when hit. When a sound at
an object s resonant frequency is played, it causes the object to vibrate. Ideally, the glass would
shatter because it vibrates itself to pieces (Schrock, 2007). In theory it is possible, but a human
cannot create enough volume without machinery to shatter glass unless it is the finest, most fragile
crystal. Normal glass is simply too

Significant Educational Advantage

An educational barrier I faced was being stuck in a class of slower learners. In middle school I
goofed off a lot and wondered why every year I was in the same class with the same people. At the
end of 8th grade year I decided I wanted to change so when I entered high school, I stayed on top of
my work. I fought hard and talked to the counselors almost every day to advance myself so I could
be in a higher class. I started joining clubs that required a certain grade point average, taking
advantage of college classes that a local junior college offered. By my senior year of high school I
completed most of my requirements and added extra classes so I could stay ahead of the game. I

Photography during this time was a way to tell the public a story. The progressive era was not
only a social movement but also a political reform. Many progressives exposed problems society

Oceania, including the language. The party was forcing a language called Newspeak which was
used to prevent political rebellion by getting rid of all the worlds related to it. Thinking
thoughts, which was called Thoughtcrime, was illegal, and was the worst of all the crimes.
Winston was frustrated by the oppression. He completely hated the Party and he illegally bought
a diary, where he illegally wrote down his thoughts. He had also became fixated on a Party
member named O Brein, who Winston thought was a part of a mysterious group that works
against the Party. Winston worked in the Ministry of Truth. He altered historical records to fit the
needs of the Party. He noticed a coworker staring at him, and he worried that she will turn him in
for his Thoughtcrime. Winston felt troubled by the Party s control of history. The party claimed
that the alleged leader of the BrotherHood, Goldstein, was the most dangerous man alive, but it
didn t make sense to Winston. Throughout London, Winston saw posters showing a man looking

the face of the Party, but Winston never determined whether that was true or not. Winston received

TV Rating Research
The main purpose of doing this research on the relationship between fantasy football participation
and TV rating is if playing fantasy football helps influences people to watch televised games of
the National Football League (NFL). The main reason of me doing this research is because I truly
believe in this study and I have past experience of being part of the human beings that have helped
the NFL on their TV ratings.
With this research topic I will be answering three research question. My primary research question:
Does having a high percent of NFL players that are in starting lineups spark an increase in TV
ratings in those games? Second research question: Having NFL players that are on high winning
teams increase TV ratings? Third research question: A gamewith a small margin of victory increase
TV ratings.
Research Question One
Does having a high percent of NFL players that are in starting lineups spark an increase in TV
ratings in those games? To find results you have to look at players that were starting in fifty
percent to ninety percent of leagues. Also need to look at results from Sunday night football,
Monday night football, NFL on CBS, and NFL on ESPN. I found some great tables to help picture
the results.

percent of fantasy football leagues. They also tested it on the most popular football channels such

teams increase TV rating but really it all depends what channel it s shown on. For NBC, studies
show that there were notable conclusion between the winning percentage and NFL players but this
was only shown with NFL players starting greater than ninety percent of leagues. ESPN was the
opposite. They had notable results with players starting in greater than fifty percent of

Changing views about Community
The definition of the term community has a long and detailed history, encapsulating concerns of
belonging and identity, time and place, difference and similarity, exclusion or inclusion. There is
no much social literature about this concept before 1910. In 1915, C.J Galpin is the first one
who coins it, offering a clear sociological definition . It was used to demarcate the small rural
communities in terms of service area and trade surrounding a central village. (Harper and Dunham
1959). This first attempt of defining the community, was quickly followed by various competing
definitions. Some of them described community as a geographical area, others, focused on
community as a group of people living and sharing a particular location, place, while another
category, looked at it as a common area of life. For example, Frazer

What Is The Significance Of The Emancipation Proclamation
The occurrence of the famous Emancipation Proclamation proved to be a very significant moment
of truth. History was made during the American Civil War on January 1st, 1863, when President
Abraham Lincoln declared the slaves to be free from being owned by another person, although the
proclamation didn t completely end slavery. Many may know the famous Emancipation
Proclamationas what set the slaves free, but it s so much more than that. It s a presidential
proclamation, that focused on everything that even had to do with rebellion and uprising, along
with the executive branch of the U.S. including the the militia and Navy. The Emancipation
Proclamation is so much greater than just a piece of paper; despite the fact that it is easily... Show

Issuing the Emancipation Proclamation was a long and complicated process that it was issued
more than once. On September 22, 1862 Lincoln issued a preliminary Emancipation Proclamation,
declaring that as of January 1st, 1863, all slaves in the rebellious states shall be then,
thenceforward, and forever free. Despite that the Emancipation Proclamation did not free any
slave, it was still an eye opening and crucial part of history. It changed the focal point of the Civil
War, and gave the people an aspiration and motive to get up everyday. It also changed the entire
purpose of the Civil War to save the nation and transform the motive from preserving the Union into
standing up for human rights and freedom. Overall, the Emancipation Proclamation ultimately
changed the morals and the message of the purpose behind the Civil War.
Lincoln believed that slavery was an unqualified evil to the negro, the white man, and the State,
although during his first inaugural address, Lincoln claimed that he had no purpose, directly or
indirectly, to interfere with slavery in the States where it exists. Although many may ask why
President Lincoln? Was Lincoln really trying to set the slaves free for the sake of the people? Or
was he after something greater? , Lincoln was very opposed to slavery. He is also the Father of
Freedom and believed that the abolishment of slavery is long

Direct Oxidation Of Methanol Lab Report
Proposed Mechanisms for the Direct Oxidation of Methane to Methanol
The oxidation of CH4 usually progresses to C02 and H20 because the intermediates are a series of
highly reactive radical reactions and this makes partial oxidation of CH3 into CH3OH very hard. In
addition, CH3OH oxidizes faster than CH4 and requires less energy for its oxidation. Industrial
attempts to synthesize methanol from methane is usually done indirectly since the direct methods
have low methanol specificity and yield. Current industrial methods for producing methanol involve
making synthesis gas from methane and then catalytically converting it to methanol. Several
methods are used such as steam reforming, and dry reforming. These methods require high
temperature of about 800В°C, the reactions are endothermic requiring lot of energy. The end
product of the reactions also requires intensive purification from impurities such as sulfur and other
compounds. Finding feasible mechanisms for oxidation of methane to methanol cannot be over
emphasized because of the uses of methanol such as production of other chemicals like
formaldehyde, acetic acid, for extraction of sulfur and most importantly as an alternative to fossil
fuels.
Due to the severe reaction conditions, energy intensive, and less efficient means of partial
oxidative production of methanol, ways of directly oxidizing methane to methanol are being
investigated. Some of the methods that have been researched are high pressure oxidation of
methane in a flow system, catalytic oxidation with copper, and gas phase homogenous oxidation
where the reactors have no stainless steel and products are prevented from contacting the wall of
the reactor to improve methanol selectivity and yield. Also, introduction of strong oxidants like
N20 was explored, however, strong oxidants are very expensive and so not feasible for industrial
use.
Recent research, however, uses Methane Monooxygenases as a model. Methane Monooxygenases
are oxidoreductase enzymes commonly found in methanotropic bacteria. One of the most studied
methanotropic bacteria is Methylococcus capsulatus. It converts methane to methanol then
methanol to formaldehyde and formaldehyde to formate and carbon dioxide which is used energy

The Struggle of the Asian Powers During the Age of Imperialism , which lasted through the entire
nineteenth century, most countries/ areas outside of North America and Europe struggled to adjust
industry based economies. Asian countries were left with a dilemma: industrialize quickly or
become subjects of western powers. Although some Asian countries were conquered many of them
become world powers by the twentieth century.
Japan s goal during the nineteenth century was to catch up to match the strength of Europe. By
beginning their transformation, the Japanese adopted a new form of government. Feudalism
became insufficient so Japan formed a government that utilized a written constitution. This new
government allowed the establishment of modern military forces. Western technology was
integrated which allowed Japan to revamp their economy from an agriculture based to an
industrialized machine in less than fifty years. By the end of the Meiji Restoration, Japan no had
no more fears of being imperialized. Instead, they set out to practice imperialism themselves. From
1894 to 1895 Japan fought China in the Sino Japanese War and forced China to agree to terrible
terms. At the turn of the century Japan was ready to become a world power. When Russia came

A Known Scribbler Frances Burney Analysis
When reading A Known Scribbler: Frances Burney On Literary Life, Burney could be confused as
a fictional character. For people who are familiar with the epistolary form, the collection of Burney
s letters presents an odd feeling of dissociation where it is possible to temporarily forget Burney is
real. A contrast to Evelina whose letters are meant to emphasize the protagonist s authenticity. Yet,
this effect proves letters provide a dual function. On one hand, the reader expects the letter to
contain the private thoughts of the writer. On the other, there is the acknowledgement that the
writer will inevitably alter events to their perspective. Morever, Burney s lack of change in her
writingsuggests life writing and fictionare similar. Because... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Clearly, Burney presents the merging of the two forms and reduces it to a simplification. The
identity of a literary work, whether real or not, is impossible to define. Because if Burney s
letters could be seen as a work of fiction or if Evelina is categorized as life writing, there would
be few arguments. Understandably, people would argue Burney s letters is life writing because
Burney was a real person. However, to the less knowledgeable reader, they might not realize it. If
they were told A Known Scribbler: Frances Burney On Literary Life is an epistolary novel
without knowing she existed, there is no way the reader could state the difference between this
and Evelina. Or, if someone argued Evelina is fictitious because there is no records of her
anywhere, by categorizing Evelina as an autobiography is enough authority to make her authentic.
Therefore, because there is no other distinguishing characteristic besides choice, the very
identities of life writing and fiction are compromised. Because the genres could blend with each
other, it becomes difficult to confidently determine whether a literary work is based on the real or
created from the mind. So long as the focus of the story is on a person in a realistic setting, the
categorization of it is left to

Symbols are not only objects and images, they can also be events and action. They help readers
create and picture scenes in their minds. In some works of literature an example of symbol
would be water which can symbolize many things such as purity, fertility or death. In this case,
it symbolizes rebirth. A text from How To Read Literature Like A Professor on page 163 reads,
See this in symbolic terms. A young man sails away from his known world, dies out of one
existence, and comes back a new person, hence is reborn. Symbolically, that s the same pattern we
see in baptism: death and rebirth through the medium of water, where his old identity dies with his
older brother . A symbol s meaning can go through a further range of more meanings than just one.
Just like patterns, some symbols can interlock with each other and create a bigger picture. To begin
with, patterns are similar to symbols, they occur to reveal the bigger picture. Seeing patterns in a
work of literature can help readers understand the relationships between characters, actions, and
ideas. Patterns are a big hint to an upcoming event or a foreshadow to the main plot. Reading
literature with numerous patterns could lead the reader to the more important and good stuff such
as the theme or the plot of the text. Therefore patterns, just as a memory, and symbols are the key to

Chennai Abstract Looking back at the history of the clutch facing, it becomes apparent that the
technological advancement of the clutch has had very little impact on clutch facing technology.
Earlier asbestos was used as friction material in single plate dry friction clutch. Asbestos is
hazardous to human health and detrimental to environment. So recently kevlar49/Epoxy material is
used as friction material. But it has its own disadvantages. So it is time to consider use of any
other environment friendly and non hazardous friction material as clutch facing material. One

Clutch Facing Clutch facing is the heart of clutch assembly which actually transmits power from
engine to transmission or drive shaft. It is a friction surface which binds face plate of fly wheel
and pressure plate of clutch assembly. A major benefit to using a lining or facing is that it prevents
metal to metal contact within the clutch set, resulting in less wear and tear on the clutch
components. Clutch facings tend to have mid level coefficients of friction, and are responsible for
removing most of the clutch vibrations from the engine. They also aid in allowing engines to
achieve high speeds without damaging the components. Fig.1 Clutch Facing 3. Desirable
Characteristics of Dry Clutch Facings Clutch friction linings are subjected to severe rubbing so that
generation of heat in relatively short periods takes place. Therefore, the lining material should have

The Yellow Wallpaper from the Point of View of a Doctor s Wife The Yellow Wallpaper by
Charlotte Perkins Gilman, is a story told from the first person point of view of a doctor s wife
who has nervous condition. The first person standpoint gives the reader access only to the
woman s thoughts, and thus, is limited. The limited viewpoint of this story helps the reader to
experience a feeling of isolation, just as the wife feels throughout the story. The point of view is
also limited in that the story takes places in the present, and as a result the wife has no benefit of
hindsight, and is never able to actually see that the men in her life are part of the reason she never

No matter what a woman did or thought, she was still seen as the lesser of the sexes.Like the
narrator, women of that time were directed to suppress their creativity as it threatened the
dominating male s sense of control. By having the narrator be forced to write in secret, There

show that even the simplest things, like wanting to write were forbidden, lest the male approved
(392). Prohibited from working and not being able to contribute to the household as a proper
wife, the narrator begins to feel helpless: So I... am absolutely forbidden to work until I am well
again. Personally, I disagree with their ideas (390). The narrator s husband and brother both
exert their own will over hers, forcing her to do what they think is the appropriate behavior for a
sick woman. She has been given a schedule[d] prescription for each hour in the day; [John] takes
all care from me (391). The way that she is required to act involves practically no exertion of her
own free will. Instead, she is expected to obediently accept the fact that her own ideas are mere
fancy, and only the opinions of the men in her life can be trusted. The fact that she is not allowed to
think for herself is narrowing the extent of her authority in her life and of her autonomy. With no
creative outlet her mind starts to find things upon which to dwell, things that only she can see.

The West Fertilizer Plant Explosion
There are disasters occurring all around the world that most individuals will not hear of due to a
lack of media coverage. Many of these disasters can have incredibly detrimental effects on entire
populations, and those at risk deserve a chance to educate themselves. Two of the disasters found
were the West Fertilizer plant explosion and the increasing rate of acidification of ocean water.
Despite the fact that these disasters pose such incredible dangers, they were found to be among the
least reported on stories amongst media outlets. Although these disasters have not been covered
nearly as much as other major catastrophes, such as hurricane Katrina, they still have far reaching
physical and emotional consequences and have their own unique story. The West Fertilizer
company located in West, Texas was in the business of chemical manufacturing and distribution.
The night of April 17, 2013, an explosion occurred as authorities were attempting to extinguish a
fire that had broken out earlier that day. The primary explosive agent was found to be ammonium
nitrate, a chemical used as fertilizer in agriculture, which West Fertilizer produced. Ammonium
Nitrate is the main component of ANFO, a commonly used explosive mixture, and is often used
by terrorists in the production of improvised explosive devices. The explosion left many injured,
several dead, and caused millions in damages. The oceans cover over 70% of the earth s surface

In order to attain optimal circumstances for increased capitalism heads of corporations naturally
needed to outdo each other. In many cases the price of lowering prices and speeding up
production came in the form of pay cuts and layoffs. The individual needed to serve the means
of the corporation. Simply because some workers had poor working conditions does not mean
that the US economy was in the gutter. Statistics show that the American economy on the whole
flourished during the Guilded and Industrial Age (91). In the fifty years between the eight
consensus and the twelfth consensus, taken in 1860 and 1910 respectively, the country s
population soared from 31.5 million to 92.4 million, an increase of almost three times. During
these same years the GNP, representing the dollar value of all the goods and services produced
each year, leaped from about $7 billion to over $35 billion. This meant an average increase of in
output from $150 to about $380 for every adult and child in the nation (Burner411). These
statistics point to economic gains of colossal proportions. Goods produced made up for job
layoffs as the US economy became, like a machine, more industrialized each day. All of the key
components were in place to have a thriving economy. Investment bankers also stepped in and
became powerful. J.P. Morgan is a prime example of not only economic success, but also how the
rich gave back to society. Although the rich of the

Both characters are faced with death, whether immediate or delayed, and although they both
show resilience in their attempts to survive, the tone of Watney s narrative has an uplifting,
hopeful quality that is non existent in that of Henry. Watney s hope comes from his upbeat
nature with the added aspect of the fact that his entire crew survived. His thinks his situation is
not completely hopeless and he makes plans for when he survives such as that he will tell
people [he] was pissing rocket fuel and that he will buy beers for everyone if [he] get[s] back to

hope for the future, as if he truly believes he will survive. In contrast, Henry remarks on how the
wolves remind him of children gathered about a spread table... awaiting permission to begin to eat
. Knowing that he was the food they were to eat , his words hold no tenacity. This could be due to
the fact that, unlike Watney, he has little reason to hope, since the wolf pack killed his friends and
there is no one to help him. Despite the characters different attitudes they both persevere and
prevent their death. At all times both could completely give up and succumb to the natural force

Separation Between the Narration in Response to...
In reading Frankenstein, by Mary Shelly, a motif of distance and separateness can be discerned
from the text. In the structure of the narrative, the reader is distant from the action. The setting of
the narrative is situated often in isolated and nearly inaccessible areas, creating separateness
between the action of the story and the everyday world. The Frankensteinmonster is remote

The light of the story is passing through the lenses of Robert Walton, Victor Frankenstein, and
finally the antagonist of the story: the nameless Frankenstein monster. Shelly gradually drops
these lenses once again until we are back to Walton s letters to Mrs. Saville. The three main lenses
of this narration are also separate in space from the rest of humanity for the majority of this novel.
Walton first sees the Frankenstein monster and then Victor on his voyage north into the ice. It is
only these two creatures, and the adventurers of Walton s crew that would travel this far away from
the comfort and companionship of humanity. The first spoken encounter between Frankenstein and
his monster occurs on the icy glacier in the Swiss Alps near the source of the Arveiron. After
Victor s ascent into the mountains he is confronted by the monster and is led to an even higher
peak to the hut of the monster where the he begins his tale. The monster exists outside the sphere
of humanity, right on the fringe. He spends his formative months in the woods or inside his hiding
place outside the cottage of the exiled French Nationals. The only people who ever hear the
monster are Victor, the blind father of the cottage, and William right before he dies. The rest of
humanity, even if the monster tries to speak, is unable to hear him. The monster is so far from

Reflection Of Jesus And The Perfect Life In Nursing
As I began to enfold the many great words in this book I began with chapter one. The first key
point I came across was learning how Jesus is our model. The book described how Jesus was not
just a spirit guiding us through our lives all though he could have been. Jesus walked this earth and
lived out a humanlife. Jesusshowed us how to live the perfect life, and I believe this is a major
aspect to carry over to the nursing field. Being a Christian nurse inspires us to be the best version
of ourselves. As we reflect on the way Jesus lived we should do everything possible to live out a
life like him. Jesus lived the perfect life and as Christian nurses we should strive to be like him.
The next thing that stood out to me in chapter one was the closing prayer. It states how Jesus gave
up heaven to come down here and save us humans. God and Jesus really both gave the ultimate
sacrifice. They both gave up so much to help us humans. To relate this to the nursing field is
very simple. God and Jesus gave up everything, so I think it our duty as nurses to help and give
back. They sacrificed so much, so being a Christian nurse entails us to sacrifice, give back, and
help others just like God and Jesus did for us. As I ponder on the questions at the end of chapter
I see how much Jesus really did for us. We learned how to live the perfect life from Jesus. I see
how much pain and suffering God and Jesus went through to save us as humans. These questions
make me realize that being a giver

The increasing real estate growth has mainly been driven by a strong economy, urbanization and
growing middle class. The stabilizing legal environment, considerable credit expansion and
increased spending on infrastructure by government have also contributed to the growth.
Nevertheless, the market faced difficulties in 2011 due to high cost of land, high inflation, a weak
shilling, ,and cases of fraud which led to loss of purchased land to various individuals. The high
inflation last year caused precipitous import prices. Consequently, the shilling weakened, falling to

Nate to the bed as the stacking continued until he had to look up to see the last rows. Some unseen
force now directed more books to leave their box and form a new line, connecting to the first row at
a thirty degree angle. The thumping noise softened as the stack rose higher into the air. Another
pile of books soon stretched over Nate s head. The new stack was only a fourth the length of the
first row but just as high. Eerily, Nate s bedroom door opened with the crack he had come to
expect from the old hardware. But never would he have imagined the line of books that floated
through the door like they were dangling from invisible strings. The set of encyclopedias he
recognized from the library drifted over to the first stack and began a third line, angled at thirty
degree again so that it made an upside down V with the other angled line. The new row also
stopped at one fourth the length of the original row. More books crowned the stack until it
reached as high as the first two rows. Nate sat unmoving, hardly breathing and hardly able to
believe his eyes. But it seemed the last row of books put an end to the construction. No more
books floated through the door or from boxes. The room was quiet as Nate eyed the partition of
books piled two feet from him. He scooted across the bed to the opposite side and cautiously tested
the floor, afraid

Young Goodman Brown Poverty in the Tale and Author s Life
Roy Harvey Pearce in Twice Told Tales: A Blend of Stories makes reference to the widely known
poverty of the aspiring writer,Nathaniel Hawthorne: True enough, Hawthorne planned more than
once to write groups of tales and sketches somehow linked into a whole; but he could not get a
publisher for them. When he did get a publisher in 1837, it had to be through the help of the hack
editor, Samuel Goodrich. . . . (107) Nathaniel Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brownincludes traits
of the modest lifestyle which the author was forced to endure in his personal life. Besides this,
there was also an artisitc resources impoverishment because of the tiny town in which ... Show more

At the end of this time, a brief, unfruitful experience at Brook Farm was followed by marriage to
Sophia in 1842: After a three year engagement, Hawthorne lost patience waiting to marry Sophia
until he had more money (20).
Between 1838 and 1845, Hawthorne published 22 stories in the Democratic Review, which paid
him between three and five dollars per page. Henry James in his biography Hawthorne from 1879
testifies in eloquent fashion to the state of Hawthorne s finances:
It strikes the observer of to day that Hawthorne showed great courage in entering a field in which
the honours and emoluments were so scanty
as the profits of authorship must have been at that time. . . Hawthorne
never, I believe, made large sums of money by his writings, and the early profits of these
charming sketches could not have been considerable; for many of them, indeed, as they appeared
in journals and magazines, he had never been paid at all. . . .(chap. 2)
Grandfather s Chair (1841), a children s book of New England history through the Revolutionary
War, sold a million copies, but Hawthorne received only a hundred dollars for the mansucript he
wrote. Again he needed to supplement his writing income. In 1846, President Polk signed
Hawthorne s appointment to the customhouse at Salem with a salary of $1200 a year (Swisher 21).

The Cost Of Medicare And Reduce Its Proportion Of The...
Several suggestions have been proposed to cut the cost of Medicare and reduce its proportion of
the federal budget. These include;
a)The introduction of voucher system that would enable for the more privatization in the offering
of insurance policies for Medicare.
b)Increasing the Medicare revenues by raising the payroll taxes that are charged on the
beneficiaries. Unhealthy lifestyle choices like smoking also need to be penalized by Medicare so
as to reduce the many claims related to such habits.
c)Cutting down the Medicare expenses through elimination of frauds, raising of eligibility age to
67, and seeking program discounts from medical companies like drug manufacturers.
Fraud and waste of resources allocated for Medicare pose major risks to the program. Medicare
is very vulnerable to a number of frauds majorly due to the fact that the program is hardly
audited. Medicare scams occur in various ways that include phantom billing where healthcare
providers demand money from Medicare for services not offered. The other form of fraud
happens in the shape of patient billing where the patients collude with scammers to claim for
kickbacks for false medical treatments. The last type of fraud is the upcoding scheme and
unbundling, where bills are inflated by claiming that a patient needs more valuable services or
procedures than the existing. The government has been sensitizing the general public on the need to
avoid such frauds by not disclosing their Medicare card details to

Songwriters Message
Music plays an important role in an individual and in society because many are able to connect
with the kinds of emotions that songs convey. Through a clever combination of rhythms, beats,
harmonies, and creative lyrics, a song can evoke a certain mood and reveal a message with many
different emotions attached. In this way, people are drawn to certain types of musicand can connect
with the song s meaning or emotional release. Songwriters typically use techniques similar to that
seen in poetry to adequately reveal meaning in their songs. It appears that some songs are better
than others at conveying their message to an audience. Songs with similar themed messages can be
compared, although every individual has their own unique reaction to music. In terms of
sufficiently carrying a message to the audience, I think that Where is the... Show more content on

First of all, the problems described in the song are relevant to almost anyone. Many have suffered
the effects of discrimination, crime, or violence, for example, and have felt the need to find help
as a result. Real world connections are used to reveal the message along with repetition and rhyme.
The singers are continually pleading, Where is the Love, because they are fed up with society s
issues and cannot find the solution. They speak realistically but their tone is motivational, inspiring
the audience to cease behaviors that create negativity. The listener wants to find the love described
as much as the pleading singer. Interestingly, the entire song incorporates rhetoric and rhetorical
questioning to fully make its point. The singers ask, Is the world insane? because of continuous
social warfare and if the audience Would turn the other cheek? on someone oppressed. This
technique is very effective in convincing the audience that something is wrong in the world and that
steps need to be taken to improve societal

Orange Colored Lenses Research Paper
Could orange colored lenses dictate my future? Would they change the way my friends see me?
Would they help me get through high school and into college? These are just a few questions I
found myself struggling with seven years ago. In fourth grade while reading audibly, my teacher
noticed I might have a reading disability. As I skipped lines, mixed up words, and even confused
words as others, my teacher discussed the concern with my parents. Were there eye problems, was
it dyslexiaor a learningdisorder? Being that all of these conditions were checked, with no
conclusive answer, we only knew I was behind on my reading and comprehension skills.
Later, after taking my first bubble test in the 7th grade, a counselor called me into her office.

Key Strengths When Playing Hockey
Passing
One of my key strengths when playing hockey is my passing, passing is very important in my
role of central midfielder for my team. I am relied on by my team mates to distribute the ball
effectively to spread the gameplay to all areas of the pitch. I can send both short and long passes
to the players on my team and can also send an occasional aerial over players to quickly get the
ball into the opponents 25/quarter to give an opportunity for the attackers on my team. I also need
to have accuracy when I distribute the ball to my teammates so they can take their first touch into
space to easily beat an opponent, rather than placing the ball inaccurately behind their feet so it is
harder for them to get the ball under control and to beat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is important that I am fast so when the ball is free I can quickly obtain it before opponents and
when I am running with the ball so I can outpace them to get into the D to have a scoring
opportunity. It is important in my role as a centre midfielder to have good bursts of pace in
different directions so I can keep up with play and get into positions where my team mates can
pass the ball to me. For good agility I need to have strong quadriceps which will pull my legs
forward for fast bursts of sprinting. The stronger my quadriceps, the faster my legs will pull my
body forward and this means I will be able to sprint faster. The quadriceps work with the
hamstrings which are the agonist muscles at the back of the thighs that work with the quadriceps.
They pull the leg back so I have the force to push off the ground quickly from the calves. Both the
quads and hamstrings work at the same time on alternating legs, so sprinting is quickest when
each is toned and elastic for my agility. The calves are also an important muscle because the
muscles of the calves control foot flexion when running. When sprinting I should be springing off
the next foot during each stride before impact to reduce the time on the ground. Strong, elastic
calves are crucial when sprinting to support the additional speed. To quickly change direction I
need to have ankle power to quickly change direction and for sprinting, I also need

Chivalry Code
However, Chaucer not only recognized pride within the hierarchies of the common man, but also
recognized the immorality of the knighthood. Knights were usually born into their class and raised
to serve their lords, thus decorating them with a sense of nobility and pride (McLean and Signman
18). Because of their role of protection, knightswere commanded to adhere to a code of conduct.
According to the book, What Life Was Like In the Age of Chivalry, this code of conduct was
constructed by the king and enforced the idea of a strict sense of honor, morale, and duty (53).
This code of conduct was vital for the morality of the knights and was commonly believed to be a
mechanism used to elevate the status of women; however, according to Natalie Demasi, chivalry
isn t about women at all. It is a code written for knights, for the men. Chivalry s true purpose was
meant to elevate the religious and social status of male knights, not the women. This... Show more

While Dorigen, the wife of the knight Arviragus, laments over her husband s absence, Arviragus
is calm, not inclined to worry about whether anyone had spoken to her of love (Chaucer 469).
Arviragus doesn t waver in his trust, for he believes that Dorigen would never betray his love
since he is a noble knight; however, despite the love they share, Dorigen still barters a deal with
another squire for her love. Chaucer was able to recognize the irony within the knighthood and thus
produce a tale in which the Knight, haughty in his mindset of his social status, did not realize the
unfaithfulness of his own wife. Because the knights were regarded as the ideal warrior and man,
pride naturally formed in their behavior. Therefore, Chaucer portrayed the hypocrisy within their
ideals and attacked the knighthood and its social structure in regards to the falsehood of

There are many great novels out there some, romance, some fictional and others nonfiction. I

such raw and amazing detail. It shows that nobody is ass they seem to be. This Novel is one that I

problems. First, Buddy was having the time of his life. He was a happy dog that did anything
and got anything he wanted in life. However everything changed when he was kidnapped and

According to the National Education Association, at least 100,000 students bring guns to school,
160,000 students skip classes because they fear physical harm, 40 students are killed or hurt by

therefore randomly searching lockers it not as important. The time and energy which would be

hide it in their lockers without having to worry. Although when random searches are be conducted
it will make students think twice about bring such things to school. When students are given a

that random searches may be conducted. Schools are not conducting the searches to just go through
student belongings but to show they are doing them, which they are hoping will deter the students

J. L Mackie Omnipotence Analysis
J.L. Mackie Evil and the Problem of Omnipotence
Mackie starts of his work by saying that thus far the arguments made for god s existence has been
faulty at best. but that is no reason to not believe in god. He then goes on to say philosophy is a
double edged sword. Philosophy can both argue for god s existence but can also criticize god s
existence. Mackie then goes on to say that he believes that there is a contradiction he states God is
omnipotent and God is wholly good; and Yet Some evil exists. (Mackie pg. 200). Mackie believes
that if something is omnipotent it can do anything thus vanquishing evil forever. And if something
is wholly good then its entirely good thus would try to eliminate all evil. But evil still exists.
Mackie concludes that at least one of the statements must be false. Mackie ... Show more content on

Because if god is wholly he would never do any evil not under any circumstance. Also this again
contradicts the fact that God is omnipotent if he can t create without evil. Mackie also debunks
The universe is better with some evil in it than it could be if there were no evil. ( Mackie pg.
206) This one Mackie quickly disproves by simply saying that it s a restatement of a previous
theory. Mackie believes it s a restatement of Evil is necessary as a means to good thus having the
same fallacies. The final theory Mackie debunks is Evil is due to human freewill (Mackie
pg.208). Mackie believes this to be the best solution and answer for evil. The idea behind this is
maybe evil has no connection to god but rather human being with free will. This then raises another
question why would god give free will to people if it would lead to evil thus again contradicting
that god is wholly good. He says 1. Free will is good and would be worse to lack it. 2. Its
impossible for god to grant someone free will and to guarantee evil will never be done. Mackie
concludes by saying there is no valid solution of the problem. That

those living there and from others who have the time and resources. Here are some ways that the

schools that is a flat fee and if used regularly the cost of taking the kids is fairly low. Both of
these field trips can be used as teaching tools and will help give the kids something to look
forward to. When watching the video, seeing the kids fill with excitement as they were riding the
bus on their way to the beach showed the need for them to break away from reality sometimes and
let them just be kids. With these ideas put in place, I believe the lives of the motel people of
Orange County would be greatly improved. They would better their state of living, give them hope
to push on and hopefully out of their situation. Technology can not address the depth of the human
need for shelter and home for those in situations like the people in the motels in Orange County. It

The Influence Of The Age Of Enlightenment

Age of Enlightenment: intellectuals that changed the Europe s way of thinking. Intro
The Age of Enlightenment is one of the turning points in the human history, which affected the
economy, politics and social order throughout the world. Period of Enlightenment is vividly
bounded in the late XVII century up to the end of XVIII century. Main purpose of the
Enlightenment time s intellectuals was to affect and transform the society in which they lived, by

hyperphagia or hypophagia. In human studies, patients with tumors in the hypothalamus have
been shown to be hyperphagia or hypophagia. The regulation of food intake is a complicated
process. It involves external factors and signals from certain hormones through the hypothalamus.
These factors act as appetite stimulator and appetite suppressors to control energy intake and
expenditure. There have been several weight loss drugs developed to treat obesity. Three of the
drugs are orlistat, sibutramine, and rimonabant. Orlistat prevents fat digestions and absorption by
binding to gastrointestinal lipases. The fat is blocked and fat is not digested and passed out in

Rimonabant works as a CB1 antagonist. The drug binds to a receptor without activating it and
preventing endocannabinoid to bind to it which decreases cell signals for appetite. The desire is
for less appetite. A person will gain weight once stopping the drugs and limited in there use for

  • 2. What I Visited The Newport Back Bay Visitors Center General Description I visited the Newport Back Bay Visitors Center. It is located in the Newport Back Bay for people to visit and learn about the wonderful Back Bay that is only steps from our very own school, CDM. The history of the Back Bay goes back a long time. In the 18th century when the Spanish arrived in Californiaplaces like the Back Bay were very abundant. However by 1975 less than 10% remained in between Santa Barbra and Mexico. In 1960 plans were made to make the back bay a large marina with houses right along the water. But in 1967 when a group of citizens founded the Friends of Newport Bay they fought to keep this from happening. It was also founded to help bring attention to the ecological importance of the Bay and to help try and ensure its survival. As a result of the Friends of Newport Bay the Upper Newport Bay Ecological Reserve was founded in 1975. Seven years latter in 1982 more land was added at Big Canyon. Five years later, in 1989 what is now known as Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve was established on the neighboring bluffs after the County of Orange acquired an additional 140 acres. Eleven years after in 2000 the Friends and the Naturalists joined forces to become the Newport Bay Naturalists Friends. Most recently, in 2010 it was elected to change the name of this organization to the Newport Bay Conservancy, which is the name that stands today. The visitor s center helps inform people of the intricate Back Bay, how it is being preserved, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When I say this I mean the way this book flows will leave your mind blown. You will think you know how the book is going to end and how everything will work out but it will confuse you in the best way possible and leave you speechless when you finish. This is because the author Lauren Oliver knows how to manipulate the mind and In a way that makes you think you know how things will end up but at the last second possible twist the story around and jumbles your mind which may not be something everyone enjoys but in my opinion I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think that sisters should read this book. I think this because this book shows the true bond of what sisters would do for each other. It is a great eye opener for people who take their sisters for granted. However while reading this book I feel as though it is best suited for teenagers. I think this because throughout the book there is talk about mature content that is not appropriate for all ages such as alcohol and drugs. My final opinion of this book is a fantastic roller coaster of words. I think this because it truly is a work of art and it will take you on a roller coaster ride that will play with your emotions which is something I think a good book should do and I would strongly recommend that anybody who also thinks that should read this book. All in all I am very glad that I chose to read this book because I know it will change how I act for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The second eigenvector gives us the other, less important, pattern in the data, that all the points follow the main line, but are off to the side of the main line by some amount. So, by this process of taking the eigenvectors of the covariance matrix, the user is able to extract lines that characterise the data. Figure 4. Plot of the data and eigenvectors Step 5: Choosing components and forming a feature vector If you look at the eigenvectors and eigenvalues from the previous section, you will notice that the eigenvalues are quite different values. In fact, it turns out that the eigenvector with the highest eigenvalue is the principle component of the data set. In our example, the eigenvector with the largest eigenvalue was the one that pointed down the middle of the data. It is the most significant relationship between the data dimensions. In general, once eigenvectors are found from the covariance matrix, the next step is to order them by eigenvalue, highest to lowest. This gives the components in order of significance. If decided, one can ignore the components of lesser significance. Some information will be lost, but if the eigenvalues are small, the lost won t be much. If some components are left out, the final data set will have less dimensions than the original. To be precise, if originally there are n dimensions in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These islamic scholars themselves preserved the writings of many famous greek philosophers like Aristotle, Plato, and Socrates, thus showing that there was no predominant aggression between the two. After the decline of the Islamic Golden Age came the rise of Christianity around the 12th century and was the next seat of knowledge. At this point there was no apparent schism between theism versus science. Because of this people sought out to become a priest to gain power and wealth, not the actually be a priest and all that it entails, and most certainly not stopping and considering the truth about matters such as science, when the easiest thing to do was to say to just understand it literally and throw the problem away in jail. This is what happened to Galileo. This started what is believed to be the first major crack in the relationship of science and religion, although it was not as bad as most people know as many religious still work in and research in science fields. When someone tells you to think of energy, the first thing that likely comes to mind is electricity or heat, as that is what we commonly see and hear about. If you are asked to think of a powerful kind of energy, you may think of radiation or fire, as they can kill people and destroy forests. Although these may be the most obvious kinds of energy, there is another kind of energy that can be both more helpful and more dangerous; shock waves. These waves surround us, yet we have only just began to explore their many uses. Shock waves can be used by animals and humans for both utility and offense. Shock waves, also called ... Resonant frequency is the frequency that an object vibrates at when hit. When a sound at an object s resonant frequency is played, it causes the object to vibrate. Ideally, the glass would shatter because it vibrates itself to pieces (Schrock, 2007). In theory it is possible, but a human cannot create enough volume without machinery to shatter glass unless it is the finest, most fragile crystal. Normal glass is simply too ... In middle school I goofed off a lot and wondered why every year I was in the same class with the same people. At the end of 8th grade year I decided I wanted to change so when I entered high school, I stayed on top of my work. I fought hard and talked to the counselors almost every day to advance myself so I could be in a higher class. The main reason of me doing this research is because I truly believe in this study and I have past experience of being part of the human beings that have helped the NFL on their TV ratings. History was made during the American Civil War on January 1st, 1863, when President Abraham Lincoln declared the slaves to be free from being owned by another person, although the proclamation didn t completely end slavery. Many may know the famous Emancipation Proclamationas what set the slaves free, but it s so much more than that. Issuing the Emancipation Proclamation was a long and complicated process that it was issued more than once. On September 22, 1862 Lincoln issued a preliminary Emancipation Proclamation, declaring that as of January 1st, 1863, all slaves in the rebellious states shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free. Despite that the Emancipation Proclamation did not free any slave, it was still an eye opening and crucial part of history. It changed the focal point of the Civil War, and gave the people an aspiration and motive to get up everyday. It also changed the entire purpose of the Civil War to save the nation and transform the motive from preserving the Union into standing up for human rights and freedom. Overall, the Emancipation Proclamation ultimately changed the morals and the message of the purpose behind the Civil War. Lincoln believed that slavery was an unqualified evil to the negro, the white man, and the State, although during his first inaugural address, Lincoln claimed that he had no purpose, directly or indirectly, to interfere with slavery in the States where it exists. Although many may ask why President Lincoln? Was Lincoln really trying to set the slaves free for the sake of the people? Or was he after something greater? , Lincoln was very opposed to slavery. • 16. Direct Oxidation Of Methanol Lab Report Proposed Mechanisms for the Direct Oxidation of Methane to Methanol The oxidation of CH4 usually progresses to C02 and H20 because the intermediates are a series of highly reactive radical reactions and this makes partial oxidation of CH3 into CH3OH very hard. In addition, CH3OH oxidizes faster than CH4 and requires less energy for its oxidation. Industrial attempts to synthesize methanol from methane is usually done indirectly since the direct methods have low methanol specificity and yield. Current industrial methods for producing methanol involve making synthesis gas from methane and then catalytically converting it to methanol. Several methods are used such as steam reforming, and dry reforming. These methods require high temperature of about 800В°C, the reactions are endothermic requiring lot of energy. The end product of the reactions also requires intensive purification from impurities such as sulfur and other compounds. Finding feasible mechanisms for oxidation of methane to methanol cannot be over emphasized because of the uses of methanol such as production of other chemicals like formaldehyde, acetic acid, for extraction of sulfur and most importantly as an alternative to fossil fuels. Due to the severe reaction conditions, energy intensive, and less efficient means of partial oxidative production of methanol, ways of directly oxidizing methane to methanol are being investigated. Some of the methods that have been researched are high pressure oxidation of methane in a flow system, catalytic oxidation with copper, and gas phase homogenous oxidation where the reactors have no stainless steel and products are prevented from contacting the wall of the reactor to improve methanol selectivity and yield. Also, introduction of strong oxidants like N20 was explored, however, strong oxidants are very expensive and so not feasible for industrial use. Recent research, however, uses Methane Monooxygenases as a model. Methane Monooxygenases are oxidoreductase enzymes commonly found in methanotropic bacteria. One of the most studied methanotropic bacteria is Methylococcus capsulatus. It converts methane to methanol then methanol to formaldehyde and formaldehyde to formate and carbon dioxide which is used energy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Asian countries were left with a dilemma: industrialize quickly or become subjects of western powers. Although some Asian countries were conquered many of them become world powers by the twentieth century. Japan s goal during the nineteenth century was to catch up to match the strength of Europe. By beginning their transformation, the Japanese adopted a new form of government. Feudalism became insufficient so Japan formed a government that utilized a written constitution. This new government allowed the establishment of modern military forces. Western technology was integrated which allowed Japan to revamp their economy from an agriculture based to an industrialized machine in less than fifty years. For people who are familiar with the epistolary form, the collection of Burney s letters presents an odd feeling of dissociation where it is possible to temporarily forget Burney is real. A contrast to Evelina whose letters are meant to emphasize the protagonist s authenticity. Yet, this effect proves letters provide a dual function. On one hand, the reader expects the letter to contain the private thoughts of the writer. On the other, there is the acknowledgement that the writer will inevitably alter events to their perspective. Clearly, Burney presents the merging of the two forms and reduces it to a simplification. The identity of a literary work, whether real or not, is impossible to define. Because if Burney s letters could be seen as a work of fiction or if Evelina is categorized as life writing, there would be few arguments. Understandably, people would argue Burney s letters is life writing because Burney was a real person. However, to the less knowledgeable reader, they might not realize it. If they were told A Known Scribbler: Frances Burney On Literary Life is an epistolary novel without knowing she existed, there is no way the reader could state the difference between this and Evelina. Or, if someone argued Evelina is fictitious because there is no records of her anywhere, by categorizing Evelina as an autobiography is enough authority to make her authentic. Therefore, because there is no other distinguishing characteristic besides choice, the very identities of life writing and fiction are compromised. • 32. Reflection Of Jesus And The Perfect Life In Nursing As I began to enfold the many great words in this book I began with chapter one. The first key point I came across was learning how Jesus is our model. The book described how Jesus was not just a spirit guiding us through our lives all though he could have been. Jesus walked this earth and lived out a humanlife. Jesusshowed us how to live the perfect life, and I believe this is a major aspect to carry over to the nursing field. Being a Christian nurse inspires us to be the best version of ourselves. As we reflect on the way Jesus lived we should do everything possible to live out a life like him. Jesus lived the perfect life and as Christian nurses we should strive to be like him. The next thing that stood out to me in chapter one was the closing prayer. It states how Jesus gave up heaven to come down here and save us humans. God and Jesus really both gave the ultimate sacrifice. They both gave up so much to help us humans. To relate this to the nursing field is very simple. God and Jesus gave up everything, so I think it our duty as nurses to help and give back. They sacrificed so much, so being a Christian nurse entails us to sacrifice, give back, and help others just like God and Jesus did for us. As I ponder on the questions at the end of chapter I see how much Jesus really did for us. We learned how to live the perfect life from Jesus. I see how much pain and suffering God and Jesus went through to save us as humans. These questions make me realize that being a giver ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What really shocks the scientists is the fact that they can reproduce at extraordinary rates from 250 to 300 clones in a few months and are already spreading rapidly throughout the globe. This creature was never ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Basal Metabolic Study Energy comes in the form of chemical, mechanical, electrical and heat. Energy can be converted and cannot be created or destroyed. In nutrition, energy is measured by a unit of kilocalorie or commonly called a calorie. Fifty percent of food kilocalories from eating produce ATP through reactions of glycolysis and in the mitochondria of the cell. Another fifty percent is lost as heat. Energycomes though foods and body energy reserves. Exercise will increase energy metabolism. A basal metabolic rate or BMR is the amount of energy or kilocalories to keep organs functioning and to stay alive. BMR estimates are made with measuring resting metabolic rate or RMR. RMR measures metabolism when a person is not using energy to digest or absorb food and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It has three sites involved in appetite regulation ventromendial nucleus, lateral hypothalamus and arcuate nucleus. Through studies using mice, lesions to the hypothalamus has resulted in hyperphagia or hypophagia. In human studies, patients with tumors in the hypothalamus have been shown to be hyperphagia or hypophagia. The regulation of food intake is a complicated process. It involves external factors and signals from certain hormones through the hypothalamus. These factors act as appetite stimulator and appetite suppressors to control energy intake and expenditure. There have been several weight loss drugs developed to treat obesity. Three of the drugs are orlistat, sibutramine, and rimonabant. Orlistat prevents fat digestions and absorption by binding to gastrointestinal lipases. The fat is blocked and fat is not digested and passed out in feces. Sibutramine works differently to affect the nerve cells in the brain that regulate appetite. Rimonabant works as a CB1 antagonist. The drug binds to a receptor without activating it and preventing endocannabinoid to bind to it which decreases cell signals for appetite. The desire is for less appetite. A person will gain weight once stopping the drugs and limited in there use for weight loss. Weight loss surgery is used to limit the amount of intake of foods by decreasing the size of the stomach. The options are the duodenal switch, gastric binding, sleeve gastrectomy and gastric ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
