Will Grayson Letter To The Community
Will Grayson, Will Grayson, written by John Green and David Levithan, is a beautifully written
story about two teenagers named Will Grayson who are attempting to navigate the ups and downs
of their polar opposite lives, lives that turn into a intertwining roller coaster when the two meet.
First there is Will Grayson, John Green s Will Grayson. Don t care too much and shut up. Those
were the words that Will lived by, until one day he didn t. After a school board member made a fuss
about having a gay football player, Will decided to defend an old friend s right to play. He wrote a
letter to the school and signed his name, breaking his only two rules in life.
The first two pages of this book draw you in with the type of comedy one would expect ... Show

You ll laugh and you ll cry for your favorite characters, and you ll learn to overlook the flaws of
others (except for one character if you re like me). I guarantee that you ll fall in love with at least
one Will Grayson and hopefully not want to strangle the other; and you ll get to see them fall in
love as well.
As one of the few books with LGBT themes out there, it is really heartwarming to see how much
literature is diversifying. It is especially pleasing that, while the LGBT themes are very frequent
throughout the book, they aren t the whole story. To those who may not understand what I mean: it
is just nice to see representation in the background; it normalizes things. The same goes for a
central character having a mental illness but the mental illness not being the entire story. It shows
that we are not just one thing, not just one label, but that our lives are shaped by many aspects and
many people.
So whether you are here for the laughs or here to be introspective, this book will draw you in with
its interesting characters and creative style. With its alternating chapters, you will never get bored
with your Will/will. You will be turning the pages non stop, the pages that capture their messy and

Comparative Textual Analysis of Two Articles
The key to being able to differentiate one newspaper from another is often, if not always, the way
the latter presents its news, both aesthetically and stylistically. These aspects have gradually
divided newspapers into two distinct categories: broadsheets and tabloids. The former being a
more neutral and respected type and the latter a newspaper for more or less entertainment purposes
only. This can be well observed in two specific articles that both report on political campaigns.
The first one, an extract from The New Vision, a pro government Ugandan publication, recounts
presidential candidate Paddy Bitama s arrival to the official nomination as an election candidate.
The article vaguely follows Bitama („of Amarula Family an ... Show more content on

The article also uses a lot of local expressions such as „bodaboda , a word which has been given
the meaning of a bicycle taxi .
The second article however, recounts the story of Nixon s involvement in a bugging scandal that
eventually led to his resignation as U.S. president. Another basic aspect that differentiates this
newspaper article from the Ugandan one is, first of all, that it is not as recent (seeing as the latter
was published in 2010 and the former in 1972) and seems to be a bit more serious and longer in
length. Nonetheless, this article, entitled „GOP security aide among 5 arrested in bugging affair
still has some emotive and vague language: „We deplore action of this kind in or our of politics
and „the mystery deepens , along with a few euphemisms such as „the bugging incident .
From this one will be able to conclude that even this article is not completely un biased. In fact, it
is, additionally, rather informal. This is especially obvious when the journalists decide to use GOP,
a nickname for the Republican Party and an abbreviation of „Grand Old Party , instead of its
official name.
Finally, the short paragraphs that make the article a whole are crowded with various quotes, and
even mention the rather irrelevant age of a certain CIA employee James W. McCord. Even though
these aspects are, as

Why Is Swing Better Than Traditional Jazz
A few years later that jazz was born in 1930 another style was created and it is call swing. Also
called the big band era because they used more instruments than early jazz. Why swing was the
most popular style of jazz? The reason was because it gave people that swing feeling they wanted
the one that made people dance. Is swing better than traditional jazz? It may be popular but that does
not mean that one is better than the other it was just different in a way that attract to many people
and it is hard to describe what swing feeling really means. The instrumentation used in swing music
consisted in five saxophones, four trumpets and four trombones as the front line and the rhythm
section with the guitar, bass, piano and drums. This instrumentation gave a strong and hot style that
people were crazy about. Always keeping the essence of jazz improvising and keeping the swing
feeling although in swing there were not collective improvisations. Using more instruments allowed
musicians to have an advanced ability in terms of tone, control and speed while they are playing a
melody. Because big bands in the swing era could not do collective improvisations bands started to
use more arrangements and the improvisation was only with solos. Duke Ellington was one of the
most influential musician with his band... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

that many jazz singers had, however, she had qualities of her own. For instance she was unique.
Another thing was the emotion that a person could feel while listening to her. She had what is most
important to jazz, that swing feeling that Louis Armstrong influenced on her and she sing it in her
own way. She sang with top jazz musicians and had several songs on the

The Age Of Turbulence By Alan Greenspan
After reading The Age of Turbulence by Alan Greenspan, the memoir truly shows the significance
of our economy in the United States. Alan Greenspan, who spent eighteen years as the chairman
of the Federal Reserve, showed great efforts to assure that America didn t experience an economic
disaster. Predicting the economic downturn that became the 1958 recession was my first forecast
of the economy as a whole (47 Greenspan). His mindset was constantly full of ideas that would
make the economy more stimulated. Greenspan explains the history he has in government, other
economic systems, and world issues that greatly affect the economy. He also made sure the rest of
the world would grow in a way to make more opportunities for all. His main... Show more content

The Federal Reserve has many jobs to accomplish such as moderating long term interest rates to
increase investment. When the economy is performing strongly, the Feds will raise interest
rates in order to slow down the economy. This may sound like a bad idea, but in reality it must
be done to ensure that our economy stays in equilibrium. We do not want our economy doing
too well but we do not want it doing too poorly either. When the Feds change the interest rates
the banks that borrow money from the Fed get directly affected because the loaning price of the
money either lowers or rises in response to the interest rates. On the other hand, when the Fed
lowers interest rates, it means the economy is performing poorly. Lowering interest rates makes
money more accessible for the banks to borrow. When the Fed tightens, the stock market tends
to not perform well. While the Fed had no explicit mandate to focus on the stock market, the
effects of the run up in prices seemed to me a legitimate concern (175 Greenspan). To explain,
higher interest rates creates a lower demand for stocks, causing stock prices to fall. Lower interest
rates creates a higher demand for stocks, causing stock prices to rise. When the demand for stocks
fall, the demand for bonds will increase. Interest rates and bond prices are inversely related. This
means that when interest rates rise, the demand for bonds fall. Alan Greenspan had a significant
contribution to why our economy is the way it is

Richard IIi, By William Shakespeare
Children bring out the underlying disposition and wicked intentions we all possess. Richard III, by
William Shakespeare, is a tragic play about the Duke of Gloucester who desires to be the king of
England. He does this through the manipulation and murder of many characters, including Queen
Elizabeth s children, PrinceEdward and the Duke of York. These children emphasize some of the
adult themes in the play and reveals the devastating nature of these themes. Their characteristics and
deaths all contribute to the emphasis of these themes. Critics Marie HГ©lГЁne Bisnaught and
Michel Bito, and Vincent Walsh all agree that the murderof Prince Edward and the Duke of York
was an atrocious deed.
Prince Edward and the Duke of York are innocent, precious, and witty. These traits the children
acquire truly highlights the extent of their deaths. Both these children are well beyond their
years. This clear when the Duke of York says I could have given my uncle s grace a flout, / To
touch his growth nearer than he d touched mine (Act II, Scene IV, Line 24 25). The young duke
cleverly insults his uncle s height and manners essentially saying that Richard is a short,
disrespected man. The children s innocence is also evident through the perspective of their mother
and uncle. In the scene when Richard III greets his nephew, Prince Edward, he says Sweet prince,
the untainted virtue of your years / Hath not yet dived into the world s deceit (Act III, Scene I,
Line 7 8). Prince

Internal And External Factors That Affect The Company s...
All in all, the company s financial position is very bad in 2015, which was quite well in 2014
and in 2013. 2014 was assumed as the best year with respect to net profit and cash flow from
operating activities. On the other hand, year 2015 was well in financing activities only. Similarly,
2013 was the year when the company achieved best assets and equity amount in comparison of
past three years and it also played well cash flow from investing as the rest of the year were with
the higher negative amount. The main objective of the paper is to evaluate the influence of
external factors on the company s future prospects. Therefore, this part of the assignment will
evaluate the Tesco s future prospects in terms of prediction of future success or failure will be done
in this part of assignment. This part of assignment will also explain the internal and external factors
that affect the financial position, financial performance, and share price of Tesco.
Discussion
Taking into consideration of analysis from Part 1 of the assignment, it can be said that Tesco s
financial position in 2015 is not good at all since it is paying off its liabilities from the little profit
that is gained. On the other hand, from the statistical portal of 2015, it is found that Tesco is still on
highest position among the UK s top grocery supermarket. This aspect shows that Tesco is still
popular among its loyal customers and has the highest market share in the industry.
It is noted that market

Juvederm Xc Research Paper
How it works...
Your practitioner will inject a necessary amount of Juvederm XC into targeted areas of the skin
layer below facial wrinkles. He/she will specifically target the epithelial tissue of the skin layer,
which promotes keratinocyte proliferation and in turn creates higher levels of retinoic acid.
Retinoic acid is a key ingredient for sky hydration and overall skin health. The process will then in
turn create new collagen, which is an important part of the skin s developmental matrix. In the end,
the process will plump the wrinkled areas of the face, thus smoothing the skin and maintaining a
natural and authentic appearance.

Tio2 Acetaminophen Analysis
TiO2 assisted photodegradation of acetaminophen Acetaminophen (adapted name for Paracetamol

Concentrations around 0.11Ојg/l have been reported in water streams in the U.S9. The concern
around toxicity and analgesic action of this drug has motivated researchers to explore various
techniques for an efficient treatment. A group of Chinese researchers have utilized suspended TiO2

novelty in the field of photocatalysis. Radicals generated by illumination of light on TiO2 target

The Hero s Journey In Star Wars
Star Wars. Just the name itself holds an astonishing weight in the world of film, literature, and
even video games and music. With so many works of varying fame and acclaim, almost no other
piece of the Star Wars universe is more easily recognised than the 1980 film (the second in the
original trilogy), Star WarsEpisode V: The Empire Strikes Back! George Lucas, the mastermind
behind the film itself, knew from the beginning that this film needed to drive his vision to the
satisfying end that it deserved. This included using massive, beautiful set pieces such as Hoth,
Cloud City, and Dagobah among others. With these basic introductory statements finished, a thesis
is to be stated: How much was the story of Luke Skywalker, as well as the entire Star Wars
universe, inspired by the Hero s Journey formula?

Funeral processions always proceed quot;slowly quot; and often majestically. The speaker in the
poem, who is dead, has certainly put away her labor and leisure to confront Death s quot;courtly
civility. quot; We might take quot;Immortality quot; at face value, but immortality is not a person;
it is each individual s concept of quot;unending existence quot; or quot;lasting fame, quot; according
to Webster s. The word then has no quot;face value. quot;
Ruth Miller reads quot;paused quot; literally, and sees quot;no burial quot; (193 94). But can we
take words literally? I think not. Because quot;Centuries [. . .] Feel shorter than the Day quot; in
this poem, a quot;pause quot; can constitute a complete if brief stop for burial in what Dickinson
describes precisely: an above ground, or partlyabove and partly below ground, burial vault; a key
to the deeper meaning of the poem. We may also note that any burial in the time frame of eternityis
but a pause.
Burial vaults were once formed by two parallel dry stone walls, six to eight feet apart, six to eight
feet high. The vaults had a stone slab or corbeled roof, a back wall, and a dry stone facade with a
portal closed by a door (or slab of marble or slate) inscribed, when used for burial, with the names
of the interred. The entire structure was banked with earth and sod and

Anti-Trust Laws Essay
Anti Trust Laws
The anti trust movement in America during the late 1800s and early 1900s is a prime example of
the conflict in society between autonomy and responsibility. Trust related issues tested the extent to
which the government could allow businesses to maintain their autonomy and at the same time
fulfill its responsibility to protect the right of the common worker. America was founded on the
principles of free enterprise. Throughout its history, the United States government maintained a
laissez faire or hands off policy in regard to regulation of business. However, in the late 1800s
public demand for the government to regulate big business in order to protect the rights of farmers

Also, railroads would charge more for transporting goods a short distance than they would for a
long one. The reason for this was that over a long distance they needed to cut rates to keep up with
the competition from other railroad lines. When only traveling a short distance, there was most
likely only one line that traveled the route and farmers were forced to pay whatever rate that
particular railroad was charging. In order to get more business, railroads would also refund money
to big business owners who used their lines. Such refunds were known as rebates. Since these
businesses paid less to transport their goods, they could sell them at a cheaper rate than small
business owners thus driving the small business owners out of business.2 Other practices used by
big business included vertical integration, horizontal integration, trusts, interlocking directorates,
and holding companies. Vertical integration occurred when one business controlled all industries
involved in making a product from the raw materials to the finished consumer version. In a
horizontally integrated industry all companies that produced a certain type of product consolidated
to corner the market. 3 A trustwas controlled by a board of trustees that controlled the stock and

What Are The Achievements Of African Kingdoms Before...
African Kingdoms Before Europeans The achievements of the African kingdoms and cities
were better before the arrival of the Europeans. The Niger River created a place where all the
kingdoms could trade, since the kingdoms were all around it and made a way to transport
goods. The salt and gold trade was a way so one place that had to much gold and had very little
of salt would get the salt they need and the opposite for the other city state. Mansa Musa was so
generous that he made the gold worth go down by giving out so much gold. The western African
kingdoms had achievements like the salt and gold trade, the Niger River to help them trade along
with, and Mansa Musa that gave out gold and helped Mali become twice the size it was. The salt and

We are all prisoners of our fates, said Buddha, No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no

He is not interested in heros that everyone knows. Instead, he pays attention to plain folks and
wants to introduce those obscure heroes to people. Also, Mike shows his heroic traits and
bravery when he rescues the soldiers that he should not rescue as a historian. When they are
facing high risks while rescuing the soldiers, the commander tried to stop Mike, but Mike
ignored him. He grabbed the boat hook to snag the life jacket with and seated backed to the
railing. (108) and lost one foot (109) because of this. So generally, Mike is an active, faithful and
heroic character. On the other hand, Eileen (Merope) is soft hearted, delicate hearted and kind.
Her last name Ward also reveals her sympathy to orphan wards during war time. She is like a role
of mother in the team who take cares of everyone and always has mercifulness. When it is time
for Eileen to go to the drop and leave 1940, she wishes to take care of the children for the last
time even though she would take the risk of being late and miss the drop site. She thought:
Perhaps I can still get him into bed for the last time, and then, as soon as Mrs.Bascombe brings up
the hot water bottle, run out to the drop and tell them I m going to be late. (128) This shows
Eileen s kindness and her soft heart. She develops likeness towards the children she supposed to

The Battle Of The Triple Entente Dominated Europe
Map Exercises 1. In 1914, the Triple Alliance and the Triple Entente dominated Europe. The
nations that make up the Triple Alliance are located in the center of Europe. This allowed the
countries to be able to move troops into other areas very quickly and support each other easily,
but they can be blockaded by Britain (who belonged to the Triple Entente). The Triple Entente can
reinforce each other since Russia was located far from France and Britain. The powers that were
involved in the Balkans were Serbia and Austria Hungary. The Ottoman Empire joined Germany
and Austria Hungary since Russia declared war on the Ottomans. 2. There were several reasons
why the Germans were able to advance that far in 1914 and 1918. One, the Germans went straight
through neutral Belgium. Two, they destroyed everything to stifle resistance. Finally, they relied on
military gambles that were successful to an extent. The actions in the Western Front are better
known since it was known for trench warfare and campaigns that resulted in heavy casualties. 3.
The major battles that took place in the Eastern Front were located mainly near the Central Powers.
The Russians initially attempted to invade eastern Germany, but were repulsed at Tannenburg and
Masurian Lakes. The Allies attempted to knock out Turkey at Gallipoli, but failed. 4. The Reds
had several advantages that enabled them to win the civil war. One, the Red Army had discipline.
This was due to Leon Trotsky, who declared that any

International Standard For Quality Management Systems
Introduction
This document is an overview of the ISO 9001:2008 international standard for quality management
systems developed by the International Organization for Standardization with the intent to give
specific requirements to companies and organizations on methods to enhance customer satisfaction
and meet statutory and regulatory requirements by improving effectiveness and performance of
their quality management systems. The overview will cover the requirement, certification
procedures and benefits of ISO9001 certification.
History
Quality management systems owe their basis to the the military industry. In fact the origins of
ISO9000 series of standards dates back to fifties, during the development of a nuclear submarine in
the US which had issues with contractors causing delays and quality breakdowns. As the result of
the research of that project the foundations of quality management were developed and other
important military standards were born such as NASA s and British Defence s quality
management standards. In 1971 the British Standard Institute applied a QMS to electronics
industry with the BS 9000 and, later on, in the manufacturing industry in 1979,publishing the BS
5750 from which the ISO9000 series of standard, published in 1987, is heavily based. After its
revision in 1994 the ISO 9000 added separate ISO 9001, 9002 and 9003 standards for different
industries becoming the reference quality management system standard in different nations and

Literary Theme Of Self Identity Essay
In Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird, Lee writes, before I can live with other folks I ve got to live
with myself. The one thing that doesn t abide by majority rule is a person s conscience (Lee, 108).
As displayed in To Kill a Mockingbird and many others, the literary theme of selfidentitycoupled
with coming of age has been a long running one in the history of literature. Certainly, we find this
theme in novels such as Between Tides and Shadows of Your Black Memory, respectively. The
development of character and self identity is vital in the analysis of each protagonist. Between
Tides follows Pierre Landu, a black Catholic Priestand revolutionist, on a journey to right his
wrongs through rigorous self examination. Pierre, having rejected his African ancestry during
adolescence, in attempts to integrate into the Catholic Priesthood finds himself dissatisfied with the
priesthood during his adult years. In attempts to reconnect to his cultural roots he joins a
revolutionist movement to deconstruct colonialism in his African nation. Through growth and the
tumultuous discovery of self, Pierre recognizes that there is no easy resolution in rediscovering
himself or Africa. Similarly, Shadows of Your Black Memory, is largely about a young boy s
journey into adulthood. Shadows is retold through the memory of the adult version of the young
boy. Unlike Pierre, the Narrator, who is never a given a name is strikingly aware of the cultural and
social parallels in which his

Conquistadors Summary
The reshaping of the New World began the moment Spaniards set foot on the continent. Those first
conquistadors documented their encounters with native peoples, emphasizing their desire to
convert these peoples to Christianity and away from their heathenistic rituals. The documents
presented by Stuart B. Schwartz portray accounts from the perspectives of both the conquerors and
the conquered. His work does not provide much in the way of personal interpretation but rather
displays the documents so the reader can compare better both sides of the New World inhabitants.
These documents present an opportunity to consider moments of heroism, greed, and despair born
during the clashing of Spanish and Nahua cultures and challenge the way historians view such
cultures and the interpretation of primary texts. Schwartz s goal, it would seem, is not to persuade
readers of the accuracy of one source over another but rather to call attention to how personal
interests, class and ethnic biases, and politics influence the interpretation of the conquering of the
Aztec empire. Irene Silverblatt examines the new Spanish lands after Spaniards have established
themselves in and amongst the native peoples. She describes the development of a modern world
through the views of Spanish imperialism and argues that the Inquisition provides such evidence.
Using church records, sermons, and missionary guides, Silverblatt examines how the modern world
was build, experienced, and understood by the

guns if they don t have a criminal record or mental illness, the number of multiple victim shootings

the ocean views are stunning, and if that s not enough, the Portland Head Light Lighthouse provides

Maine and has been guiding traffic into Portland Harbor for more than two hundred years. The idea
for the lighthouse came about after a shipwreck in 1787, but wasn t completed until after the First
Congress passed the Lighthouse Act in 1789, which placed lighthouses under the control of the

Jesus Came As The Savior And The World, The Supreme Leader...
Jesus came as the Savior to Israel and the world, the supreme leader of Heaven. In the three and a
half years He ministered, He performed and accomplished astonishing feats. He preached life
changing sermons, and taught captivating parables that remain to test today s most educated
scholars. He healed hundreds of incurable diseases, provided food for thousands extraordinarily,
calmed storms suddenly, walked on water confidently, brought people back to life, and selected
just a dozen men, eleven of whom would go on to spend the rest of their lives fulfilling His
mission. He selected hard working people such as fishermen to be His apprentices, and helped and
ate with regular people. He challenged and condemned religious leaders, who resented and despised
Him. He taught in Jerusalem, the cities of Judea, out in the rural areas, in meadows, on mounds,
and from boats in the water while multitudes attended attentively from the shore. Jesustaught about
a place, but not a place of this world. He never had a family, owned a home, held an office, or
even wrote a book. Though some would debate as Christians we are children of God, He is
seated at the gates of our eternal home in Heaven, sits at the right hand of God, and played a
major role and character in the bestselling book and greatest story ever told. Many centuries have
gone by and He still remains the focus and shining light for most of the world. Jesus became and is

Primitive Beginnings in Herman Melville s Moby Dick
Primitive Beginnings in Herman Melville s Moby Dick
Among the numerous themes and ideas that author Herman Melville expresses in Moby Dick, one
of the less examined is the superiority of the primitive man to the modern man. As an undertone
running through the entire book, one can see in Moby Dick the same admiration of the noble savage
that is so prevalent in Melville s earlier tales of the simple and idyllic life of the cannibals, even
though the focus has been shifted to the dangers of seeing things from only one point of view and
to the struggle between good and evil.
Before proceeding to a discussion of how Melville glorifies primitive man in Moby Dick, a working

what is called savagery. When a whaling ship leaves port, it leaves the civilized world and
plunges into the world of the primitive, where the sea rolls as it rolled five thousand years ago and
wild, furious nature, unmodulated by the influence of man, holds complete sway. (see Chapter 58:
Brit) There, the ship shares many characteristics with a nomadic tribe, roving across the prairies in
search of great beasts to hunt and kill. These ship tribes are few and far between, and when they
meet, it is an opportunity to tell stories and to exchange any useful knowledge they may have
gathered. In addition, the whale hunt itself provides a metaphor for the hunt that took up most of
the primitive men s time and provided them with their sustenance. When the harpooners all hurl
their harpoons at a whale, the image of cavemen hurling spears at a mammoth is vividly conjured
up. The virtues required of the prehistoric mammoth hunters are also observed in the whalemen;
both must have courage, perseverance, and solidarity. So, when Melville devotes several chapters
to an exposition of the glories of whaling, attempting to endow the whaling industry with a
mythology befitting a fundamental activity of man

The Conflicts And Influence Of The Cold War
The Cold War, one of the most important international conflicts in global history, was not a series of
battles fought around the world, but rather a conflict over ideological differences which was
primarily built around the United States and the Soviet Union, and their capitalist vs. communist
systems. The Cold Warhit a period of paramount importance throughout the late 1950s, where a
series of different political and social events led to a shift of the global spectrum in the great
capitalist communist rivalry, which arguably, began the decline of Soviet power, and the approach
to capitalist victory of the war. During this period, new rulers entered into the global rule, and the

Stalin s inevitability of war belief and declare a new goal of peaceful coexistence changing from
the Stalin era Soviet stance, where international class conflict would mean two opposing camps
were on inevitable course in which communism would triumph through global war, into a stance
where peace would allow capitalism to collapse on its own, giving the soviets time to boost their

African American Studies Research Paper
African American Studies is an interdisciplinary subject that acts as a dialogue between other fields
of research to build a collective understanding of the African experience as well as document the
African initiative.
Among one of the principles of Afrocentricity, a driving concept behind AfricanAmerican Studies,
is the portrayal of Africans not just as victims, but as agents of their own history, which is
reflected in Celie s decision to take control of her life rather than suffer in silence. Since she was
fourteen, Celie had been physically and sexually abused by her father, and later was forced to

After growing seriously ill, Shug is cared for by Celie that leads to their ensuing friendship.
When Shug regains her strength and prepares to leave, Celie confesses being abused by her
husband to which Shug responds by put[ting] her arms around [her] and stay[ing] until Albert
won t even think about beating [her] (75). This scene is particularly important to Celie as Shug
shows to not only have heard Celie s plea, but also takes action to help her deal with the abuse
and end it. Furthermore, Shug is an individual Celie has strongly admired for years and to be
acknowledged by one of the most important figures in her life is an important piece of evidence
to Celie that she is an individual of value. This small understanding of self worth then grows as
Shug continues to nurture and care for Celie throughout the novel, causing Celie to finally break
free from her husband with her renewed self esteem. Celie s strength, while her own, would not
have manifested on its own if Shug had not helped her develop her self confidence. Celie s self
realization is tied to Shug s constant support and is not an isolated event similar to how African
American Studies is not an isolated discipline. It is deeply connected to other branches of
knowledge for the sake of expanding, enriching, and generally improving the understanding of
humanity as whole from an Afrocentric perspective. While African American Studies is focused on

that also seeks to acquire a larger understanding of humanity as a whole through the inclusion of all
cultures. Without the supporting knowledge and perspectives provided by

Reflection Paper On Varsity

really good. Our varsity team had many injuries causing me to be moved up to varsity. Playing
varsity humbled me and showed me that hard work does pay off. From this experience it

Understanding the book requires a semi vast knowledge of vocabulary and laws, and is clearly
intended for an audience that has studied the subject of Christianity versus Evolution before.
Larson starts out by describing the Origin of Species by Charles Darwin and why he thinks it is
such a great piece of scientific literature, and describes how it greatly affected the Christian
community because a large part of it went against the Bible. He then explains the ideas behind
evolution and natural selection. Larson stated that evolution was the theory that current living
species evolved from preexisting species (Larson 14). Next, he sets the background for the rest of
his book by giving details of how the situation surrounding evolution arose, and how the two
lawyers got involved in the case.. He sets the background for the court case by stating that the
teaching of evolution was banned in the schools of Dayton, Tennessee and that John Scopes was
being prosecuted for teaching it to the class he was substituting.
Following his explanation of the basis on the case, he describes the differences between
fundamentalism and modernism. He describes how one of the main causes of the pressure between
them is an aftermath of World War I. Fundamentalism is following religion as stringently as
possible, while modernism is the exact opposite of it. Furthermore,

An American Artist And Member Of The Hudson River School
Albert Bierstadt (1830 1902) was an American artist and member of the Hudson River School.
He was one of the first of the Hudson River Artist s to paint beyond New York and see the

titled Indian Summer Hudson River was completed in 1861. It is oil on canvas painting, which
measures twenty four inches in height by forty one inches wide. One looks out across a
secluded section of the Hudson River. It is late afternoon, and the sun is beginning its decent.
The sun is almost blinding; its rays glistening and reflecting upon the river turning its blues to

day. On the far side of the river, a child helps his father pull a small boat onto the bank, as a small
group of cattle makes their way across from the bank opposite them. The cattle move slowly and
intently across the water, drinking as they walk, enjoying the last moments of the day as they
continue toward the father and son. Two additional cows lounge on the cool earth beneath the trees
whose branches are scattered with the crimson and yellow orange colors of early evening and that

Family Abuse Research Paper
Thank you so much for all that you have done for me. You have gone through so much abuse all
the time that my family and I lived with you. You were annoyed by my sister and I or hurt by
accidents so many times that it is impossible to count. I remember the numerous times my sister
drew on your stairs and all of the food and drinks we spilled on your carpet. You also never
complained with all of the times you were hurt with water leaks, trees falling on you, and termites.
You just roll with the punches and accept everything that happens to you. You will never know how
much my familyappreciates how you almost never speak up about your problems unless you really
need it, like when your plumbing is hurting. I remember having so many good times

System Thinking Is The Process Of Understanding How Things...
System thinking is the process of understanding how things influence one another within a system.
Russell L. Ackoff, Dr. W. Edwards Deming, and Peter Senge s define, think differently, and have
different approaches of system thinking. Russell L. Ackoff was born on February 12, 1919 in
Philadelphia. He was a pioneer in the field of operations research, systems thinking and
managementscience. (Russell L. Ackoff) He received his bachelor degree in architecture at the
University of Pennsylvania in 1941. In 1942 to 1946, he served in the U.S. Army. After his
return he went on to study at the University of Pennsylvania, where he received his doctorate in
philosophy of science in 1947 as C. West Churchman s first doctoral student. (Russell L. Ackoff)
Russell L. Ackoff says the typical way management has been trained in the western world is to
divide any complex system into parts, and then try to manage each part as best as you can. If
these were to be divided into parts we would believe two things which are any problem can be
solved, and the system as a whole will behave well. Ackoff goes on to say these are false because
it s possible to improve the performance of each part taken separately and destroy the system at the
same time. (Production Management: A Total Quality Management Approach) Ackoff defines a
system as a whole containing two or more parts that contains the five conditions. The first condition
is the whole has one or more important properties or functions. The

Analysis Of Gulliver s Travels
Even in today s society, jokes about the repercussions of educating women find their way into the
popular culture, though they are generally very tongue in cheek. For example, in Pitch Perfect 2, a
recent film, a comedic relief, narrating character says of the girls acapella performance, This is
what happens when you send girls to college (Pitch Perfect 2). The character implies that when girls
are given educationand freedom, they will default to partaking in foolish behavior. This was a
common idea in the eighteenth century as people legitimately denied women schooling based on
such a concept. In the last paragraph on page 55 of Gulliver s Travels (1726), Swift comments on
the education and roles of women in Lilliputian society using specific word choice and
juxtaposition of male and female schooling. With this, he asserts that, while the Lilliputians
regarded women with similar gender based expectations as the English, they did offer women some
form of equality through the basis of education. This, of course, contrasts the treatment of women in
European society which feared that female education would empower women to leave behind their
traditional roles. Through his addressal of the fact that women can be educated and still succeed as
mothers and wives, Swift presents that society could benefit from teaching girls basic information
while still keeping them in their customary places.
For instance, he comments that Chambermaids practiced common Follies (Swift 55).

Advantages Of Debit Card
Debit Card
A debit card is a plastic recompense card that can be used instead of cash when making purchases.
It is similar to a credit card, but unlike a credit card, the money comes directly from the user s bank
account when performing a transaction.
Some cards may have a stored value with which a payment is made, while most send a message
to the cardholder s bank to withdraw funds from a payer s selected bank account. In some cases,
the primary account number is assigned solely for use on the Internet and there is no physical card.
The development of debit cards, unlike credit cards has generally been country specific resulting in
a number of different systems around the world, which were often mismatched. Since the mid
2000s, a number of initiatives have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

What Are The Similarities Between Debs And Schenck
The critics of World War I, specifically Eugene V. Debs and Charles Schenck, were American. An
American is a person of United States citizenship who upholds the values, ideas, and traditions
upon which America was founded. Debs and Schenck believed that those who went to war were
anti Americans. They themselves must be Americans if they oppose anti Americans. The Schenck
Pamphlet states, war is an insult to every good and wholesome American tradition. He is up front
on his belief in American tradition. He is arguing that those who encourage war are anti American.
Eugene V. Debs sarcastically states in his speech, These... tyrants, red handed robbers and murders,
[say they re] the patriots. Eugene opposes those who support World War I, his belief making them
anti American. If one opposes those who are against an entity for the reason that they are against

In regards, to the size of the investment we would estimate that they should spend anywhere from
$550 million to $1 billion to startup their business in Switzerland. This is based off the fact that in
2007 they raised $750 million to invest in new middle markets in North America and Europe, and
they also raised $1 billion in a Gulf Opportunity Fund in 2013. These findings demonstrate how the
company was willing to raise and invest money because they see the significant return on
investment for their company. Additionally, in 2008 their tech fund actually put $500 million into
other tech firms to help them globalize. The fact that Investcorp currently manages approximately
$21.4 billion in assets, their tech has been able to gain twice (return of investment) of what the
company originally invested. Based on this information we can estimate the company can see a
return investment of $2 billion to $3 billion entering the Swiss market.
The corporate social responsibility for Investcorp is to assess and take responsibility for the
company s effects on environmental and social well being. Switzerland is one of the countries that
holds companies responsible for environmental well being. The Swiss government imposes their
economic actors to assume their responsibilities towards society. This means that the government is
reinforcing the position of Swiss enterprises in terms not only of their competitiveness but also with
respects to the part they perform in

Domestic Violence In Homeless Families
Past and current research indicate that many families do become homeless as a result of domestic
violence. According to the Senate Judiciary committee, citing a report prepared by the Ford
Foundation, 50 percent of all homeless women and children in this country are fleeing domestic
violence. (Zorza p. 421). Families in homelessnessand victims of domestic violence struggle with
adhering to financial pressures and as a result struggle with financial hardships. Families that are
victims of domestic violence are challenged with paying their basic bills such as rent, electricity,
water, etc. Many victims of domestic violence have been fully dependent on the abuser making it
difficult for them to leave their home. Many victims of domestic violence never escape their
situation because they don t have the means too. Some women choose to stay and manage the
violence. They regard this as a safer option than to lose everything, propelling themselves and their
children into homelessness and more poverty. (Slabbert p. 4). Research conducted show that poverty

individuals with the ability to become economically dependent; therefore, it is to no surprise that
women make up a large portion of the familial homeless population. (Roschelle

Exploring The Earth
The origins and improvement of scientific knowledge can be discovered by investigating children
s understanding of the earth. (Panagiotaki, et al, 2006) This report will focus on how children
respond to the shape of the Earth, which is an analysis and partly replication of the result of the
experiment done by Vosniadou Brewer in 1992. According to their research, by interpreting
everyday experience, children initially believe that the earthis a flat object. Some think that our
earth is flat and rectangular while others assume that it is flat and shaped like a disc. Then, during
the process of knowledge acquirement, children are exposed to the socially accepted knowledge
that the Earth is spherical. Nonetheless, because of the influence... Show more content on

(FrГЁde et al, 2011). In another case study, it is reported that age is a crucial foreteller and
children aged 10 and above gain a considerable amount of scientific knowledge of the earth.
(Straatemeir et al, 2008) This is due to the fact that when children get older, they will have more
scientifically correct knowledge of the earth. Additionally, they also state that age exerts a huge
influence on the consistency of children s answers. This is attributed to the fact that the consistency
was lower for younger children. (Straatemeier et al, 2008). The more knowledgeable the children
are, the more consistent their answers are.
Besides, children s understanding of the form of the earth is associated significantly with gender
differences. Previous case studies have expressed that boys are better at scientific knowledge,
including the understanding of the structure of our earth than girls. Straatemeir (2008) argues that
the boys are supposed to have a considerably higher consistency mark as did the girls. (0.60 and
0.18 respectively) In addition to that, it is suggested that males have the wider knowledge of
scientific problems. When working in a group, males are likely to be not only more clear headed
but also more confident and informative than their female peers while mentioning scientific matters.
Moreover, this finding remains unchanged

where lending institutions can determine your credit worthiness. With credit scores, the lender can

The Four Senses Of Scripture In Origen Homily 1 Summary
The Four Senses of Scripture in Origen Homily I Origen was one of the most pivotal and important
teacher and interpreter of the Catholic faith of all time. His interpretations of Genesis I and many
other homilies are still looked to today for guidance, even though he lived in the third century.
Origen has had a difficult history with the church, from being excommunicated and pronounced a
heretic, though today the church an scholars recognize him as a very important mind in church
history. If one heard about Origens early life alone, they may not predict what he would eventually
become. He was presumably born into an Christian home in Egypt, and at an early age his father
was killed in a purge of Christians in 200 AD. Origen s education was spotty, as he was not
completely taught in school during his formative years but he came into contact with Gnostics of
the Valentinian school, Neoplatonist worshipers, and teachings from Philo of Alexandria. Overall
Origen s formative years and early life were a rough time period for him, and the time period in
which he was raised was difficult for Christians everywhere. When Origen turned 18 years old he
became the principle of a catechetical school in Alexandria. This is when Origen started working on
First Principles, his attempt to make a presentation of what Christians believe. In First Principles,
Origen talked about the holy Trinity, the human fall into sin, human free will, and redemption.
Because of his Gnostic background

The 5th Wave Character Analysis
The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey is a young adult science fiction novel. The story follows a young
girl named Cassie as the world as we know it comes to an end due to an alien arrival. Yancey
makes many of his beliefs, about family, trust, and love, known throughout the novel. For example,
Yancey s story conveys that family is worth dying for, trust is imperative for survival, and love can
drive people to go on beyond their limits. Countless times all through the novel, the theme that
family is worth dying for is evident. From the beginning, Cassie s father shows this when the whole
familystays put in their house while Cassie s mother is sick. By staying there, they are all risking
their lives as it would be incredibly easy for the rest of them to become ill with the altered form
of Ebola. Later, Cassie s father allows her to leave the barracks to go look for Crisco in the
woods when he senses trouble. He could have volunteered himself instead, but he decides that his
daughter is worth dying for. Moreover, Cassie constantly puts her life on the line for Sammy.
Beginning when Sammy boards the bus to to Wright Patterson, everything Cassie does is a riskto

The Gas Leak Tragedy Of Bhopal
The Gas Leak Tragedy of Bhopal, India is considered the worst industrial disaster in history.
Originally, the Bhopal pesticide plants were to be some of the best and most beautiful plants
which would have huge production capabilities. However, in 1984 there was a massive leak of
methyl isocyanate (MIC) which spread out to local communities and has negatively affected the
health of hundreds of thousands of people. The reason why the pesticideplant was created was for
the Green Revolution in the 1960 s. Traditional farming methods in India were changing to high
yield seed varieties which needed more fertilizers and pesticides (Eckerman, 2005), to meet the
increasing food demand. Pesticide production was originally sourced in Europe, however because
of new knowledge and protests from environmental activists, it became restricted. (Eckerman, 2005,
pg. 24). Consequently, pesticide production was outsourced to India because of fewer regulations
and cheaper labor (Kovel, 2002). The pesticide that the Bhopalplants created was Carbaryl, and this
pesticide serves as a neurotoxin that controls pests such as moths, beetles, ants, mosquitoes, ticks
and cockroaches (National Pesticide Information Center, 2003). The chemicals inside the pesticide
are a Cholinesterase Inhibitor, which inhibits the cholinesterase enzyme from degrading
acetylcholin, eventually leading to interference in the host s nervous system (Gilbert, 2014, В¶ 3).

  • 2. Will Grayson Letter To The Community Will Grayson, Will Grayson, written by John Green and David Levithan, is a beautifully written story about two teenagers named Will Grayson who are attempting to navigate the ups and downs of their polar opposite lives, lives that turn into a intertwining roller coaster when the two meet. First there is Will Grayson, John Green s Will Grayson. Don t care too much and shut up. Those were the words that Will lived by, until one day he didn t. After a school board member made a fuss about having a gay football player, Will decided to defend an old friend s right to play. He wrote a letter to the school and signed his name, breaking his only two rules in life. The first two pages of this book draw you in with the type of comedy one would expect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You ll laugh and you ll cry for your favorite characters, and you ll learn to overlook the flaws of others (except for one character if you re like me). I guarantee that you ll fall in love with at least one Will Grayson and hopefully not want to strangle the other; and you ll get to see them fall in love as well. As one of the few books with LGBT themes out there, it is really heartwarming to see how much literature is diversifying. It is especially pleasing that, while the LGBT themes are very frequent throughout the book, they aren t the whole story. To those who may not understand what I mean: it is just nice to see representation in the background; it normalizes things. The same goes for a central character having a mental illness but the mental illness not being the entire story. It shows that we are not just one thing, not just one label, but that our lives are shaped by many aspects and many people. So whether you are here for the laughs or here to be introspective, this book will draw you in with its interesting characters and creative style. With its alternating chapters, you will never get bored with your Will/will. You will be turning the pages non stop, the pages that capture their messy and intriguing ... • 3. Comparative Textual Analysis of Two Articles The key to being able to differentiate one newspaper from another is often, if not always, the way the latter presents its news, both aesthetically and stylistically. These aspects have gradually divided newspapers into two distinct categories: broadsheets and tabloids. The former being a more neutral and respected type and the latter a newspaper for more or less entertainment purposes only. This can be well observed in two specific articles that both report on political campaigns. The first one, an extract from The New Vision, a pro government Ugandan publication, recounts presidential candidate Paddy Bitama s arrival to the official nomination as an election candidate. The article vaguely follows Bitama („of Amarula Family an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The article also uses a lot of local expressions such as „bodaboda , a word which has been given the meaning of a bicycle taxi . The second article however, recounts the story of Nixon s involvement in a bugging scandal that eventually led to his resignation as U.S. president. Another basic aspect that differentiates this newspaper article from the Ugandan one is, first of all, that it is not as recent (seeing as the latter was published in 2010 and the former in 1972) and seems to be a bit more serious and longer in length. Nonetheless, this article, entitled „GOP security aide among 5 arrested in bugging affair still has some emotive and vague language: „We deplore action of this kind in or our of politics and „the mystery deepens , along with a few euphemisms such as „the bugging incident . From this one will be able to conclude that even this article is not completely un biased. In fact, it is, additionally, rather informal. This is especially obvious when the journalists decide to use GOP, a nickname for the Republican Party and an abbreviation of „Grand Old Party , instead of its official name. Finally, the short paragraphs that make the article a whole are crowded with various quotes, and even mention the rather irrelevant age of a certain CIA employee James W. McCord. Even though these aspects are, as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Why Is Swing Better Than Traditional Jazz A few years later that jazz was born in 1930 another style was created and it is call swing. Also called the big band era because they used more instruments than early jazz. Why swing was the most popular style of jazz? The reason was because it gave people that swing feeling they wanted the one that made people dance. Is swing better than traditional jazz? It may be popular but that does not mean that one is better than the other it was just different in a way that attract to many people and it is hard to describe what swing feeling really means. The instrumentation used in swing music consisted in five saxophones, four trumpets and four trombones as the front line and the rhythm section with the guitar, bass, piano and drums. This instrumentation gave a strong and hot style that people were crazy about. Always keeping the essence of jazz improvising and keeping the swing feeling although in swing there were not collective improvisations. Using more instruments allowed musicians to have an advanced ability in terms of tone, control and speed while they are playing a melody. Because big bands in the swing era could not do collective improvisations bands started to use more arrangements and the improvisation was only with solos. Duke Ellington was one of the most influential musician with his band... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The two most famous vocalists were Billie Holliday and Ella Fitzgerald. • 7. The Age Of Turbulence By Alan Greenspan After reading The Age of Turbulence by Alan Greenspan, the memoir truly shows the significance of our economy in the United States. Alan Greenspan, who spent eighteen years as the chairman of the Federal Reserve, showed great efforts to assure that America didn t experience an economic disaster. Predicting the economic downturn that became the 1958 recession was my first forecast of the economy as a whole (47 Greenspan). His mindset was constantly full of ideas that would make the economy more stimulated. Greenspan explains the history he has in government, other economic systems, and world issues that greatly affect the economy. He also made sure the rest of the world would grow in a way to make more opportunities for all. His main... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Federal Reserve has many jobs to accomplish such as moderating long term interest rates to increase investment. When the economy is performing strongly, the Feds will raise interest rates in order to slow down the economy. This may sound like a bad idea, but in reality it must be done to ensure that our economy stays in equilibrium. We do not want our economy doing too well but we do not want it doing too poorly either. When the Feds change the interest rates the banks that borrow money from the Fed get directly affected because the loaning price of the money either lowers or rises in response to the interest rates. On the other hand, when the Fed lowers interest rates, it means the economy is performing poorly. Lowering interest rates makes money more accessible for the banks to borrow. When the Fed tightens, the stock market tends to not perform well. While the Fed had no explicit mandate to focus on the stock market, the effects of the run up in prices seemed to me a legitimate concern (175 Greenspan). To explain, higher interest rates creates a lower demand for stocks, causing stock prices to fall. Lower interest rates creates a higher demand for stocks, causing stock prices to rise. When the demand for stocks fall, the demand for bonds will increase. Interest rates and bond prices are inversely related. This means that when interest rates rise, the demand for bonds fall. Alan Greenspan had a significant contribution to why our economy is the way it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Richard IIi, By William Shakespeare Children bring out the underlying disposition and wicked intentions we all possess. Richard III, by William Shakespeare, is a tragic play about the Duke of Gloucester who desires to be the king of England. He does this through the manipulation and murder of many characters, including Queen Elizabeth s children, PrinceEdward and the Duke of York. These children emphasize some of the adult themes in the play and reveals the devastating nature of these themes. Their characteristics and deaths all contribute to the emphasis of these themes. Critics Marie HГ©lГЁne Bisnaught and Michel Bito, and Vincent Walsh all agree that the murderof Prince Edward and the Duke of York was an atrocious deed. Prince Edward and the Duke of York are innocent, precious, and witty. These traits the children acquire truly highlights the extent of their deaths. Both these children are well beyond their years. This clear when the Duke of York says I could have given my uncle s grace a flout, / To touch his growth nearer than he d touched mine (Act II, Scene IV, Line 24 25). The young duke cleverly insults his uncle s height and manners essentially saying that Richard is a short, disrespected man. The children s innocence is also evident through the perspective of their mother and uncle. In the scene when Richard III greets his nephew, Prince Edward, he says Sweet prince, the untainted virtue of your years / Hath not yet dived into the world s deceit (Act III, Scene I, Line 7 8). With so many works of varying fame and acclaim, almost no other piece of the Star Wars universe is more easily recognised than the 1980 film (the second in the original trilogy), Star WarsEpisode V: The Empire Strikes Back! George Lucas, the mastermind behind the film itself, knew from the beginning that this film needed to drive his vision to the satisfying end that it deserved. This included using massive, beautiful set pieces such as Hoth, Cloud City, and Dagobah among others. With these basic introductory statements finished, a thesis is to be stated: How much was the story of Luke Skywalker, as well as the entire Star Wars universe, inspired by the Hero s Journey formula? In the interest of space, a quick summary of the movie s happenings will be listed, and then expanded upon using the basic outline of the hero s journey. Luke sees the ghost ... Anti-Trust Laws Essay Anti Trust Laws The anti trust movement in America during the late 1800s and early 1900s is a prime example of the conflict in society between autonomy and responsibility. Trust related issues tested the extent to which the government could allow businesses to maintain their autonomy and at the same time fulfill its responsibility to protect the right of the common worker. America was founded on the principles of free enterprise. Throughout its history, the United States government maintained a laissez faire or hands off policy in regard to regulation of business. The reason for this was that over a long distance they needed to cut rates to keep up with the competition from other railroad lines. When only traveling a short distance, there was most likely only one line that traveled the route and farmers were forced to pay whatever rate that particular railroad was charging. In order to get more business, railroads would also refund money to big business owners who used their lines. Such refunds were known as rebates. Since these businesses paid less to transport their goods, they could sell them at a cheaper rate than small business owners thus driving the small business owners out of business.2 Other practices used by big business included vertical integration, horizontal integration, trusts, interlocking directorates, and holding companies. Vertical integration occurred when one business controlled all industries involved in making a product from the raw materials to the finished consumer version. In a horizontally integrated industry all companies that produced a certain type of product consolidated to corner the market. 3 A trustwas controlled by a board of trustees that controlled the stock and voting privileges of a number of companies in the same industry.4 In an interlocking directorate, the same people sat on the board of directors for multiple ... • 24. The Battle Of The Triple Entente Dominated Europe Map Exercises 1. In 1914, the Triple Alliance and the Triple Entente dominated Europe. The nations that make up the Triple Alliance are located in the center of Europe. This allowed the countries to be able to move troops into other areas very quickly and support each other easily, but they can be blockaded by Britain (who belonged to the Triple Entente). The Triple Entente can reinforce each other since Russia was located far from France and Britain. The powers that were involved in the Balkans were Serbia and Austria Hungary. The Ottoman Empire joined Germany and Austria Hungary since Russia declared war on the Ottomans. 2. There were several reasons why the Germans were able to advance that far in 1914 and 1918. One, the Germans went straight through neutral Belgium. Two, they destroyed everything to stifle resistance. Finally, they relied on military gambles that were successful to an extent. The actions in the Western Front are better known since it was known for trench warfare and campaigns that resulted in heavy casualties. 3. The major battles that took place in the Eastern Front were located mainly near the Central Powers. The Russians initially attempted to invade eastern Germany, but were repulsed at Tannenburg and Masurian Lakes. The Allies attempted to knock out Turkey at Gallipoli, but failed. 4. The overview will cover the requirement, certification procedures and benefits of ISO9001 certification. History Quality management systems owe their basis to the the military industry. In fact the origins of ISO9000 series of standards dates back to fifties, during the development of a nuclear submarine in the US which had issues with contractors causing delays and quality breakdowns. As the result of the research of that project the foundations of quality management were developed and other important military standards were born such as NASA s and British Defence s quality management standards. In 1971 the British Standard Institute applied a QMS to electronics industry with the BS 9000 and, later on, in the manufacturing industry in 1979,publishing the BS 5750 from which the ISO9000 series of standard, published in 1987, is heavily based. The one thing that doesn t abide by majority rule is a person s conscience (Lee, 108). As displayed in To Kill a Mockingbird and many others, the literary theme of selfidentitycoupled with coming of age has been a long running one in the history of literature. Certainly, we find this theme in novels such as Between Tides and Shadows of Your Black Memory, respectively. The development of character and self identity is vital in the analysis of each protagonist. Between Tides follows Pierre Landu, a black Catholic Priestand revolutionist, on a journey to right his wrongs through rigorous self examination. Pierre, having rejected his African ancestry during adolescence, in attempts to integrate into the Catholic Priesthood finds himself dissatisfied with the priesthood during his adult years. In attempts to reconnect to his cultural roots he joins a revolutionist movement to deconstruct colonialism in his African nation. Through growth and the tumultuous discovery of self, Pierre recognizes that there is no easy resolution in rediscovering himself or Africa. Similarly, Shadows of Your Black Memory, is largely about a young boy s journey into adulthood. Shadows is retold through the memory of the adult version of the young boy. • 27. Conquistadors Summary The reshaping of the New World began the moment Spaniards set foot on the continent. Those first conquistadors documented their encounters with native peoples, emphasizing their desire to convert these peoples to Christianity and away from their heathenistic rituals. The documents presented by Stuart B. Schwartz portray accounts from the perspectives of both the conquerors and the conquered. His work does not provide much in the way of personal interpretation but rather displays the documents so the reader can compare better both sides of the New World inhabitants. These documents present an opportunity to consider moments of heroism, greed, and despair born during the clashing of Spanish and Nahua cultures and challenge the way historians view such cultures and the interpretation of primary texts. Schwartz s goal, it would seem, is not to persuade readers of the accuracy of one source over another but rather to call attention to how personal interests, class and ethnic biases, and politics influence the interpretation of the conquering of the Aztec empire. Irene Silverblatt examines the new Spanish lands after Spaniards have established themselves in and amongst the native peoples. She describes the development of a modern world through the views of Spanish imperialism and argues that the Inquisition provides such evidence. Using church records, sermons, and missionary guides, Silverblatt examines how the modern world was build, experienced, and understood by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He healed hundreds of incurable diseases, provided food for thousands extraordinarily, calmed storms suddenly, walked on water confidently, brought people back to life, and selected just a dozen men, eleven of whom would go on to spend the rest of their lives fulfilling His mission. As an undertone running through the entire book, one can see in Moby Dick the same admiration of the noble savage that is so prevalent in Melville s earlier tales of the simple and idyllic life of the cannibals, even though the focus has been shifted to the dangers of seeing things from only one point of view and to the struggle between good and evil. When a whaling ship leaves port, it leaves the civilized world and plunges into the world of the primitive, where the sea rolls as it rolled five thousand years ago and wild, furious nature, unmodulated by the influence of man, holds complete sway. (see Chapter 58: Brit) There, the ship shares many characteristics with a nomadic tribe, roving across the prairies in search of great beasts to hunt and kill. These ship tribes are few and far between, and when they meet, it is an opportunity to tell stories and to exchange any useful knowledge they may have gathered. In addition, the whale hunt itself provides a metaphor for the hunt that took up most of the primitive men s time and provided them with their sustenance. When the harpooners all hurl their harpoons at a whale, the image of cavemen hurling spears at a mammoth is vividly conjured up. The virtues required of the prehistoric mammoth hunters are also observed in the whalemen; both must have courage, perseverance, and solidarity. Among one of the principles of Afrocentricity, a driving concept behind AfricanAmerican Studies, is the portrayal of Africans not just as victims, but as agents of their own history, which is reflected in Celie s decision to take control of her life rather than suffer in silence. Since she was fourteen, Celie had been physically and sexually abused by her father, and later was forced to suffer the same treatment upon marrying her husband dubbed as Mr. _____. After growing seriously ill, Shug is cared for by Celie that leads to their ensuing friendship. When Shug regains her strength and prepares to leave, Celie confesses being abused by her husband to which Shug responds by put[ting] her arms around [her] and stay[ing] until Albert won t even think about beating [her] (75). This scene is particularly important to Celie as Shug shows to not only have heard Celie s plea, but also takes action to help her deal with the abuse and end it. Furthermore, Shug is an individual Celie has strongly admired for years and to be acknowledged by one of the most important figures in her life is an important piece of evidence to Celie that she is an individual of value. This small understanding of self worth then grows as Shug continues to nurture and care for Celie throughout the novel, causing Celie to finally break free from her husband with her renewed self esteem. Celie s strength, while her own, would not have manifested on its own if Shug had not helped her develop her self confidence. Celie s self realization is tied to Shug s constant support and is not an isolated event similar to how African American Studies is not an isolated discipline. It is deeply connected to other branches of knowledge for the sake of expanding, enriching, and generally improving the understanding of humanity as whole from an Afrocentric perspective. While African American Studies is focused on discussing the African experience from the beliefs and mindsets of African people, it is a discipline that also seeks to acquire a larger understanding of humanity as a whole through the inclusion of all cultures. The fear of plummeting to your death was a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. I remind myself not to look down but it was inevitable. I had to look. He was one of the first of the Hudson River Artist s to paint beyond New York and see the unexplored west. Bierstadt s paintings focused more upon the sublime in nature. His painting titled Indian Summer Hudson River was completed in 1861. It is oil on canvas painting, which measures twenty four inches in height by forty one inches wide. One looks out across a secluded section of the Hudson River. It is late afternoon, and the sun is beginning its decent. The sun is almost blinding; its rays glistening and reflecting upon the river turning its blues to greens. The sky is clear with the exception of a few scattered clouds, which begin to absorb the gold and reds of the setting sun, giving an almost hazy effect to the end of this Indian summer day. On the far side of the river, a child helps his father pull a small boat onto the bank, as a small group of cattle makes their way across from the bank opposite them. The cattle move slowly and intently across the water, drinking as they walk, enjoying the last moments of the day as they continue toward the father and son. Two additional cows lounge on the cool earth beneath the trees whose branches are scattered with the crimson and yellow orange colors of early evening and that of fall. If these were to be divided into parts we would believe two things which are any problem can be solved, and the system as a whole will behave well. Ackoff goes on to say these are false because it s possible to improve the performance of each part taken separately and destroy the system at the same time. • 44. Analysis Of Gulliver s Travels Even in today s society, jokes about the repercussions of educating women find their way into the popular culture, though they are generally very tongue in cheek. For example, in Pitch Perfect 2, a recent film, a comedic relief, narrating character says of the girls acapella performance, This is what happens when you send girls to college (Pitch Perfect 2). The character implies that when girls are given educationand freedom, they will default to partaking in foolish behavior. This was a common idea in the eighteenth century as people legitimately denied women schooling based on such a concept. In the last paragraph on page 55 of Gulliver s Travels (1726), Swift comments on the education and roles of women in Lilliputian society using specific word choice and juxtaposition of male and female schooling. With this, he asserts that, while the Lilliputians regarded women with similar gender based expectations as the English, they did offer women some form of equality through the basis of education. This, of course, contrasts the treatment of women in European society which feared that female education would empower women to leave behind their traditional roles. Through his addressal of the fact that women can be educated and still succeed as mothers and wives, Swift presents that society could benefit from teaching girls basic information while still keeping them in their customary places. For instance, he comments that Chambermaids practiced common Follies (Swift 55). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Additionally, they also state that age exerts a huge influence on the consistency of children s answers. This is attributed to the fact that the consistency was lower for younger children. (Straatemeier et al, 2008). The more knowledgeable the children are, the more consistent their answers are. Besides, children s understanding of the form of the earth is associated significantly with gender differences. • 56. The Gas Leak Tragedy Of Bhopal The Gas Leak Tragedy of Bhopal, India is considered the worst industrial disaster in history. Originally, the Bhopal pesticide plants were to be some of the best and most beautiful plants which would have huge production capabilities. However, in 1984 there was a massive leak of methyl isocyanate (MIC) which spread out to local communities and has negatively affected the health of hundreds of thousands of people. The reason why the pesticideplant was created was for the Green Revolution in the 1960 s. Traditional farming methods in India were changing to high yield seed varieties which needed more fertilizers and pesticides (Eckerman, 2005), to meet the increasing food demand. Pesticide production was originally sourced in Europe, however because of new knowledge and protests from environmental activists, it became restricted. (Eckerman, 2005, pg. 24). Consequently, pesticide production was outsourced to India because of fewer regulations and cheaper labor (Kovel, 2002). The pesticide that the Bhopalplants created was Carbaryl, and this pesticide serves as a neurotoxin that controls pests such as moths, beetles, ants, mosquitoes, ticks and cockroaches (National Pesticide Information Center, 2003). The chemicals inside the pesticide are a Cholinesterase Inhibitor, which inhibits the cholinesterase enzyme from degrading acetylcholin, eventually leading to interference in the host s nervous system (Gilbert, 2014, В¶ 3). Although the plants were used to create ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
