The Importance Of Immuno-Oncology
As immuno oncology takes the spotlight in cancer therapeutics and pharma companies race to develop
new treatments, improvements in the detection of cancers may be just as impactful. Liquid biopsies,
top ten technology MIT Technology Review 2015 breakthroughs, are diagnostic tests to detect cancer
biomarkers in the blood, urine, and now saliva.
Liquid biopsies have been recent blood based tests that analyze circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) or
circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in lieu of the standard tissue biopsy. However, exosomes appear to be
the next big thing in liquid biopsy and cancer diagnostics. These are nanoscopic membranous
messengers that are continually released from all cells into every biofluid in your body (Balaj). From

While JP Morgan analysts expect demand for liquid biopsies to shoot from $580 million in 2016
(marketsandmarkets.com) to $20 billion per year by 2020 (Standaert), former CEO of Illumina
biotech, Jay Flatley says depending on the speed of research findings the number could be closer to a
staggering $100 to $200 billion (gov_archives 2016 this is insufficient, address?).
Historically, cancer research has focused on finding a cure for what has been thought of as a single
disease with rogue cells dividing madly, but research and technologies have exposed how complex
cancers really are with intricate genetic differences demonstrating patients are much less alike than we
once thought. Genetic and environmental facts have provided myriad different tumor types with
unique biological pathways insights.
Although traditional chemotherapy and radiation is still common, the race is on to develop targeted
therapies to precisely combat pathways unique to the genetic footprint of a specific patient s tumor.
Individualized therapies are meant to block tumor growth rather than radiate all rapidly dividing cells,
healthy or cancerous, or apply indiscriminately destructive chemotherapeutics (Mullane).
Oddly, it is diagnostics that have proven to be among our biggest challenges (Ciardiello) in the
targeted therapies and precision medicine world. Biopsy procedures, the leading

Canada s Constitutional Issue Of Canada
For over fifty years, the status of Canada s constitution has been unable to fully unify, due to the fact
that Canada has been unable to address Quebec s constitutional concerns. Much of the ongoing debate
addresses if the Constitution should recognize the francophone population of Quebec as a separate
nation or a distinct society, with a separate laid out set of different characteristics and needs from the
rest of the provinces in Canada . An important question should be how Canada can best acknowledge,
preserve, protect and defend Quebec s language and culture. The central debate of this paper will
address the issue of how Quebec should handle the important issue of how it should address signing

Various previous attempts to reach an agreement have failed, as they have been unable to address
these issues. However, one of these agreements resulted in the implementation of a constitutional
amendment in which implemented the Canadian Bill of Rights that is commonly known as the
Canadian Charter of Rights and freedoms. Secondly, this constitutional amendment allowed Canada to
make its own constitutional changes and not Great Britain. However, these major changes were made
without the consent of Quebec. The fact that these changes were made without Quebec means that a
quarter of Canada s population did not agree with the terms. It is simply unacceptable that the
Constitutional amendments made in 1982 made an effort to recognize and accommodate Canada s
multicultural and Aboriginal populations, yet do nothing in regards to accommodating the distinctive
character of Quebec.
Quebec was left out again in the debate for the Meech Lake Accord. Rather than make serious
attempts to recognize Quebec as a distinct society, too much time was spent in attempt to forge the
nation together. Had Meech Lake been successful, it would have respected Quebec s genuine wish to
be recognized as a distinct society. Meech Lake would have been able to forge universal language
rights because both official languages would receive the same amount of respect in Quebec as it does

Kristeva s Powers Of Horror Essay
Bell Hook s Marginality as a Site of Resistance, is an engaging and powerful comment on the
solicitude for all those colonised on the perimeter of society. That one must embrace this position and
identify as, but not be defined as the marginalised. Hooks argues in her essay, that succumbing solely
to the identity of the oppressed be it race, gender or class, stifles one individualism and creativity. This
space that is the margin, that is a site of creativity and power, that inclusive space where we recover
ourselves. (Hooks, 1990, p.343) To instead use this site of marginality as a vantage point to gain a
formative viewpoint and destabilise the deep structures of power and cultural domination. Julia

Kristeva is attempting to explore the different ways in which abjection works within human societies
as means of separating out the human and non human. (Creed, 1993, p.8) It will focus on Kristeva s
theory of the abject and the construction of the human subject in relation to the border, the mother
child relationship and the feminine body. It will also explore how the representation of woman as
abject is almost always in relation to her mothering and reproductive functions. The representation of
women in relation to Freud s castration and the religious abject as discussed in Powers of Horror will
also be examined. This chapter will also include a discussion on Kristeva s abject through Barbara
Creed s The Monstrous Feminine. All human societies have a conception of the monstrous feminine,
of what it is about women that is shocking. (Creed, 1993, p.1) Creed gives an interesting insight to
Kristeva s abject and Freud s theory on castration in horror films. By looking at the construction of
female monsters and what it is about them that is monstrous, in particular the archaic mother, the
monstrous womb and the castrating mother as archetypes of the abject

there are numerous variations that can be applied to the study design. The cluster randomized

Comparing Iago And Othello

The Honorable Murderer
Iago and Othello, as military figures, have shown courage in combat and are respected members of
their community. In the end though, each of them kills his wife in a fit of rage. It would be easy to
view both of them in the role of a villain. Both men are deeply flawed; however, Iago is the true
villain. He enjoys his evil actions. Othello, while allowing jealousy to consume him, is the tragic hero
of the story.
Othello was raised in and around the military. From the tender age of seven he served as a solider.

We also disapprove of his arrogance in describing himself as an honourable murderer, (690) as this
suggests that he doesn t fully accept responsibility for his actions. However, we can feel his pain and
sorrow as he cries out cold, cold, my girl (691). Our view of Othello is changed by how we last see
him. For most of the play, we view him as the hero. We are rooting for him to figure out he is being
lied to and manipulated. Othello s fall should not have happened. It is truly tragic that his reputation,
his wife, and his life s work are consumed by a fit of jealous rage. His accomplishments rendered
worthless as he takes his own life. He is very aware of what he has lost confessing he threw a pearl

A Time Travelers Guide
Fast forward to the year 2120 and you re the number one scientist in the world developing cutting
edge technology in the fields of genetics as well as time and space travel. Everyone has doubted your
efforts up to this point but you know that today will be the day. You re hoping that the plugs and wires
will line up just right and when the clock strikes 12:00 AM you ll be on your way to having a glance
into the rich history of the Renaissance era dating back 600 plus years. Today will be the day that you
travel through time and space to prove every doubt wrong and to prove that we don t know just as
much as we think we do.
First, let me give you a little bit of background on the Renaissance era and why it was a significant
movement for the development of literature, architecture, and art. The Renaissance originated in Italy
but then spread to other European countries because of its modern influence and change. It can be
attributed to introducing artistic styles that the world had never seen before therefore, its influence
spread rapidly. Furthermore, the movements that we ll be looking at involve the stylistic changes and
influences of architecture that occurred from the 15th to 17th centuries. We ll be interacting with
Renaissance sculptors and painters such as Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and Andrea Palladio.
Furthermore, the clock strikes 12:00 AM and you pull the lever not

What Is Appeasement In The 1930s
In the 1930s, Germany and other nations got away with doing whatever they wanted. Countries such
as Great Britain and France allowed Germany to continue doing this because they wanted to keep
peace in Europe . This was known as appeasement. Appeasement is when nations give into a nation to
keep peace.
Germany took advantage of other European countries not doing anything to stop them by conquering a
large amount of land. Hitler also pledged that he would undo the Treaty of Versailles. He
accomplished this by entering a narrow strip of land known as the Rhineland, which was prohibited by
the treaty. France was stunned and were unwilling to risk war. Capturing the Rhineland strengthened
Hitler s power and prestige and changed the balance of power

Historical Analysis on Factories
How would you feel about being age ten and working twelve hour shifts with dangerous machery. It s
not safe, you re risking your life, and harming yourself. People were tied to those machines. You want
to quit, but you know your family needs the money. Even though you boss sometimes didn t pay you.
Factories are what started the Industrial Era, which started in England. The first factories had
problems, progress, and promises. They weren t perfect, but it lead these people closer to the world we
know today. Since this was the first time people started using the factory system there were some
imperfections. The factories were a new fast way of getting work done. Richard Arkwright created the

Factory owners would arrange deals with local orphanages to hire orphans. The orphans would get
food, shelter, and clothing. Which was not always the best but it was better than nothing. Many
children did not know how to read or write. Their boss would provide them with a little amount of
education. But instead of being taught properly, they had to go work. It s not like they wanted to go
work, they had to. Most families did not have enough to eat. Plus it was common to have a family
with nine brothers and sisters. The new middle class had a different thought of how their children
should spend their days. They would educate their kids, girls would learn to sew, and learn how to
maintain a household. Boys were also educated but they were thought to follow in their father s
footsteps. Now thats the life every kid wanted instead of risking their lives everyday. Back in the
factories young children would assist adult workers. Some of those workers would verbally abuse, or
beat them. The boss would punish you if you came late. For example they would tie a weight to your
neck and make you walk with it for about an hour. That lead to some serious injuries. Whenever a boy
was late he would have to go to the factory naked and put their clothes on there. It was good that
families were getting more money than they use to. And with the help of

Spartan Military Leadership
Spartan Military The Spartan army was one of the most powerful armies in the ancient world.
When Spartan boys were babies they were looked over by The Council Of Elders to see if they were
strong enough to be Warriors. At the age of 7, the boys had to leave home to start there military
training. The boys were forced to fight each other (which could cause violence). They also became
skilled at stealing food, and at other survival skills.
The teenage boys who demonstrated the most leadership, were asked to join in the Crypteia, which
was like a secret police force whose goal was to terrorize the general Helot (which is a member of
serfs in ancient Sparta) and also to murder people that were troublemakers.
At age 20, Spartan males become

The Interesting Industry of Japanese Whaling Essay
If I had one year to learn more about a topic of my choice, I would study about the Japanese whaling
industry. Although whale hunting in Japan began in the 12th century, Japan s involvement in the
whaling industry began in the 1890s. The international whaling industry functioned normally until
1925 when the League of Nations called for conservation measures in 1925. This eventually led to the
Geneva Convention for the Regulation of Whaling in 1931, which was ignored by Japan and
Germany. Instead, as whale catches diminished in coastal waters, Japanese whale hunters looked to
Antarctica. This started with the Japanese company Toyo Hogei K.K. purchasing the Norwegian ship
Antarctic, renaming it the Tonan Maru.
However, World War II soon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Japan joined the International Whaling Commission in 1951; however, Japan would later be criticized
by environmental organizations and anti whaling nations for making heavy use of Article VIII of the
International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling which states that Notwithstanding anything
contained in this Convention any Contracting Government may grant to any of its nationals a special
permit authorizing that national to kill, take and treat whales for purposes of scientific research subject
to such restrictions as to number and subject to such other conditions as the Contracting Government
thinks fit, and the killing, taking, and treating of whales in accordance with the provisions of this
Article shall be exempt from the operation of this Convention.
As the commercial viability of large competing whaling fleets was diminished due to restrictions, six
Japanese whaling companies agreed to merge into one in July 1975. The government declared support
for the new company, with Prime Minister Shintaro Abe saying, We ask that the flame of the whaling
industry will not be put out and that you do your best to secure Japan s food supplies. The government
will be doing all it can to actively support your efforts. Eventually, the company merged with the
Japan Whaling Association and Institute of Cetacean Research to create the Institute of Cetacean
Research in 1987.

How Did Netflix Pursue Movie Studios
Netflix could pursue movie studios if it can build up a higher number of customers who are watching
their exclusive shows. The con to a movie studio is the fact that there will be various expenses which
could result in removing part of their customers who enjoy the low 7.99 rate. Therefore Netflix would
become something that it is trying to compete against which is the bigger cable providers. An avenue
that Netflix is best suited for is creating original shows, and movies such as House of Cards. For
Netflix to take the next step it has to create at least one more show that has a national audience such as
the type of numbers that Breaking Bad, or Walking Dead has. This would pave the way for them to
create more of a fan base, and allow them

A Clean And Organised House
A clean and organised house not only improves its looks, but also speaks highly of your housekeeping
habit. It is important for the health and hygiene of the inhabitants of the house. We all know that, yet
we cannot also deny that the task itself does not feel too appealing and regular spring cleaning
schedule leaves us all exhausted.
House cleaning regimen
Almost all of us try to follow a house cleaning schedule that suits us. However, there cannot be an
ideal cleaning schedule, what suits you may not suit your friend. So it is important to device a routine
that feels comfortable and manageable to you. Our hectic lifestyle makes it difficult to spring cleanse
the interiors regularly.
However, you can take small steps everyday to clean one area of your house that requires immediate
attention. Alternatively, you can generally try to keep things as organised as possible and dust off a
part of your room every day before undertaking any deep cleaning activities during the weekends.
A clean house is the most basic requirement of a fashionable home. According to the traditional
wisdom of feng shui, positive energy circulates well in a decluttered home. Proper cleansing extends
the life of your valuable belongings. Books, clothes and accessories remain bug free. You and your
family can enjoy inhaling in a cleaner interior environment with fewer concerns for allergic reactions.
Choice of materials for a clean house
Certain materials are easier to clean and maintain than others.

Literary Response To The Moths By Helena Maria Viramontes
Literary Response to The Moths The Moths by Helena Maria Viramontes is a fictional short story
about the narrator s personal hardship of watching her grandmother die slowly because of natural
causes. Although, the name of this story is The Moths don t let this fool you. In this story, references
to moths are only used twice. Using the moths, the author is able to convey a theme, help create the
tone, and resolve the central conflict. I believe that the moths are actually being used in this story to
symbolize some sort of healing and relief. In the following paragraphs, I would like to defend my
claim and also show you examples of how Mrs. Viramontes utilizes the moths for many different
elements in this story. To start with, in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the narrator talks about her family the tone of the story seems to be gloomy. The definition of
gloomy is causing distress or depression. An example of this tone can be found in the story in the
second paragraph. The narrator says, I always pricked my fingers or knotted my colored threads time
and time again while my sisters laughed and called me Bull Hands . The narrator even goes as far as
carrying a piece of jagged brick in her sock to strike her sisters with. Then, when the narrator talks
about Abuelita and the good times they have together the tone shifts and now becomes more
lighthearted. This lighthearted tone can be found in the story a couple of times, but one significant
example of this can be found in paragraph 4. It says, Abuelita would wait for me at the top step of her
porch, holding a hammer and nail and empty coffee cans. And although we hardly ever spoke, hardly
looked at each other as we worked over root transplants, I always felt her grey eye on me. It made me
feel, in a strange sort of way, safe and guarded and not alone. Like God was suppose to make you feel.
The two different examples I just gave provide evidence that the tone of this story changes depending
on who she is talking to and who she is talking

Archetypal Hero
Introduction
Take a minute to think about your favorite comic book character or the superhero that you admired the
most during your childhood and adolescent years. To name a few, Batman, Spiderman, Harry Potter,
Hercules, and more were just some of the beloved comic book and movie characters that were enjoyed
by children and adults alike. They portrayed the traditional archetypal hero, which was to conquer evil
and bring peace to the land and to the world. Over the years, they have become role models to children
all over the nation, as children would often dress up as their favorite character for Halloween or buy
toys at various stores. Also, they were highly praised by society because they were considered the
good guy . However, what all these characters have in common is that they are fictional. The depiction
of the traditional hero in the media and literature has had an impact on American culture for decades.
From their brave spirits, to their brute strength, and selfless personalities made the character appealing
to the average person because it gave this ideal almost perfect image of the person that people wished
they could be. Despite the fact that these characters and their qualities are completely fictional, the
praise and the admiration that the character received at the end of the book or movie due to their
heroic deeds targeted every person s secret desire, which is to be respected, honored, and accepted not
only by family and friends, but by society as

Mansa Musa Legacy
Mansa Musa one of the richest rulers in the world and the ruled the Mali Empire in the 14th century.
At the time he was crowned, Europe was in a state of flux and suffering in terms of economic
prosperity, however many African nations were thriving. While ruling, Mansa Musa tremendously
expanded the borders of his empire and also annexed the city of Timbuktu. His entire nation spanned
over 2,000 miles. On his elaborate pilgrimage to Mecca, he sought out Middle Eastern and European
rulers to establish better relations with them. While on his way, he traveled with many camels, tens of
thousands of soldiers and so much gold that the rest of the world started to know him as one of the
richest men of the world. In his stop to Cairo, he gave so much money to the poor and spent so much
gold that his efforts almost resulted in mass inflation, which took many years to tone down that
economic crisis. Over the time Mansa Musa ruled, he became a rich man and well known throughout
Europe and the Middle East. For this course, this ties in Africa s relevance to Europe and the Middle
East. This opens up a door for both trade and war in the future.

Dissection Alternatives Essay
Dissection Alternatives
Dissection in science classrooms is an experience that almost every student has to go through, but one
that many will regret. It is estimated that six million vertebrate animals are dissected in high schools
each year, and another 5.7 million are used in college laboratories. The issue of educational dissection
has become a national concern. Many groups such as PETA and The Humane Society have been
lobbying for years to outlaw such practices, and implement new and safe dissection alternatives.
Alternatives to dissection have become more popular in recent decades and may be the future of
modern science and education.

They ruled that under her First Amendment rights Jennifer could object to the dissection on moral
grounds, and therefore could not be forced to participate. Jennifer s high school then instated a student
choice policy so that students who chose not to participate in dissections would be offered a viable
alternative. Now there are seven states that have informed consent laws regarding classroom
dissection: Florida, California, Maine, Pennsylvania, Louisiana, Rhode Island, and New York. These
laws require that students must be informed of a dissection lab at the beginning of a course, and if they
wish, will be provided with an alternative. There are also two states where it is mandatory that
students are provided with dissection alternatives: Maryland, and Illinois.
There are also several nations that have banned educational dissection from their science curriculums.
Argentina was the first in 1987, followed by Slovakia (1994), and Israel (1999). And in 2001, India
banned the use of mice, rats, and frogs for any type of dissection purposes.
The main issue with statewide dissection laws is that they only apply to elementary, middle, and high
schools. Colleges and Universities are not required to follow each state s policy. This can create many
problems. At one particular University, the student choice policy for dissection may very from
department to department or even from teacher to teacher. This can be very confusing and

In the case Tardif v. Wiebe, Tardif, a bouncer, was liable for physically assaulting a patron of a bar.
But what is interesting is that the Hotel was vicariously liable for Tardifs excessive and unjustified

Tardif v. Weibe, the courts ruled the fact that the business instructed employees not to use force does
not operate as a defense. So, even though Wal Marts training video that clearly states that no

Investing in training one s staff could have prevented this. c) Dale could claim that he was acting in

Invertebrates In Alzheimer s Essay
Invertebrates in Alzheimer s
Recent medical advances, such as gaining the ability to observe closely the genetic makeup of an
individual, have led to the discovery that some invertebrates are somewhat genetically similar to
humans. Organisms like Caenorhabditis elegans, nematode worm, and Drosophila melanogaster, fruit
fly, appear to have genes similar to humans, where Alzheimer s disease genes are found. These
similarities will help researchers learn more about this relatively unknown disease and potentially save
human lives. The DNA of C. elegans and Drosophila can be used as models for studying the disease
and for testing new drugs to be used later on humans. These advances may lead to discoveries in
medicine that can save human lives in the future.
C. Elegans is a non parasitic round worm (nematode) found in locations rich with nutrients and

Romanticism begin? Taking a look back into the 17th century, there was another intellectual
movement that changed society, culture and politics. The Enlightenment was a time period lasting
throughout the 18th century which brought about the Age of Reason in which politics, philosophy, and
science dominated in Europe. The philosophies of the Enlightenment placed emphasis on rational and
scientific thought and viewed the natural world as one that is governed mathematically and by
scientific laws which could be understood by humankind. The Enlightened philosophies brought about
this drastic change in all aspects of society which influenced the several revolutions of that time
period such as the American and the French revolutions. After the French Revolution, the concepts of
the Old Regime and traditions of the past in Europe were abolished while new concepts introduced by
the Enlightenment were being implemented in all areas of politics, culture and society. This left
Europe in a state of two opposing worlds one that still appreciated the traditions of the past and one
that was ready for new ideas of the future. Out of this chaos is where the ideology of Romanticism
developed and thrived in

Terra Cotta Army Observation Report
I m getting more used to waking up early, and I don t feel as tired as I did during the school year, but I
still don t enjoy waking up this early. Breakfast helps though because they have really great muffins.
From the hotel, we traveled by bus to the Terra Cotta Army. Pretty much as soon as we got off the bus,
people were taking our picture again. I still don t get it, but I m getting more used to it. After going
through the lines and walking a little way through a large green space, we were in the park for lack of
a term. There were 4 buildings we were going to go into. They were creatively named Building 1,
Building 2, Building 3, and the Chariot Room. We went into Building 1 first and it was not what I was

The Metamorphosis of Sydney Carton
Sydney Carton, one of Dickens s most loved and best remembered characters (Stout 29), is not just
another two dimensional character; he seems to fly off the pages and into real life throughout all the
trials and tribulations he experiences. He touches many hearts, and he even saves the life of Charles
Darnay, a man who looks surprisingly similar to him. In Dickens s A Tale of Two Cities, Sydney
Carton is a selfish man of habit, a cynic, a self loathing drunk, and an incorrigible barrister until he
meets Lucie Manette; throughout the novel Sydney is overcome by his noble love for Lucie and
transforms from a cynic to a hero as he accomplishes one of the most selfless acts a man can carry out.

Carton is the jackal to Stryver s lion. According to Darwin, a jackal is an animal not destined by nature
to exist, and carrying with it the provisions for death (Petch 28). Sydney accepts that he will never rise
from his position as the jackal . He assumes he has no more chance of standing up to Stryver than a
real jackal may have of rising to be a lion (Dickens 203). Sydney s position as a lawyer persuades his
feelings of service. He fully shows the ideology of service as he gives his life to the service of his
clients. To serve others, a person must have a sense of self sacrifice; therefore, his profession as a
lawyer supplies a professional context for Carton s self sacrifice (Petch 38). If not for Sydney s
profession and his self sacrificial sense of duty, the end of the novel may have been extremely
different. While Sydney struggles with his drinking and depression, he finds comfort in one person:
Lucie Manette. At night, as he is stumbling drunkenly down the streets, he unconsciously winds up in
front of the Manette household (Dickens 144). Why does he do this? He does this because he is in
love with Miss Lucie Manette. As much as he wants to act on his feelings for her, he feels as if he is
not honorable, and he believes he would bring her down with him.

Essay On Death Of A Salesman A Slice Of America
Death of a Salesman: A Slice of Americana The concept of what constitutes American is a varied as
the people who make up America. Thinking about the global perspective of the concept, the concept
stratifies even more so. The opinion of those who love this country may say that American is apple
pie, fast cars, Friday night football, working hard, owning your own home, and living the American
Dream. The opinion of those who are not necessarily fans of America may point out that we are
materialistic, militaristic, brash, entitled, and greedy. Considering that Death of a Salesman was
written in 1949 in a less globally minded, post world War II economic boom and sense of American
pride, it would seem that the American feel given the play would pertain only to its time in history.

Essay on Fiscal Policy
Fiscal Policy can be explained in many ways, for example. Fiscal policy is the use of the government
budget to affect an economy. When the government decides on the taxes that it collects, the transfer
payments it gives out, or the goods and services that it purchases, it is engaging in fiscal policy. The
primary economic impact of any change in the government budget is felt by particular groups a tax cut
for families with children, for example, raises the disposable income of such families. Discussions of
fiscal policy, however, usually focus on the effect of changes in the government budget on the overall
economy on such macroeconomic variables as GNP and unemployment and inflation.

This policy involves increasing government spending and cutting taxes, in order to spur economic
output. But if the government decides they need to do the opposite the government may adopt
concretionary fiscal policy. This involves a reduction in government spending and an increase in taxes
when faced with an overheating economy. But these actions, may have other effects in the economy.
For instance, and expansionary fiscal policy may lead to the crowding out of investment.
Like every other government controlled organization there is a group of people who are control of
Fiscal Policy. There is a Council of Economics. These men are called Council of Economic Advisors.
In the Council of Advisors there are three people. There is a Chairmen and two members. Even though
there are not a lot of people in this council it is a very important council. These three men are very
influential to the President. The Council of Economic Advisors haves five main jobs to do.
First off the Council must assist and advise the President in the preparation of the Economic Report.
Secondly they must gather timely and authoritative information concerning economic developments

the lives of nearly 730,000 innocent people per year (Water.org, 2015; Prüss Ustün, Bartram, Clasen,

(Water.org, 2015; World Health Organization UNICEF: Joint Monitoring Programme, 2012). When
people in developing parts of the world do find water, many times it is not from a clean source.
The lack of safe water supplies and abundance of preventable diseases that result have together
become one of the modern world s top 10 global killers (WHO, 2015). Water related illnesses claim
the lives of more than 2,000 people per day (Water.org, 2015; Prüss Ustün, A., et al., 2014). A recent
United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) report states that 10% of
the global disease burden could be reduced by improving water supplies, sanitation and hygiene
practices, and water resource management in these areas (World Water Assessment Programme, 2009,
p.88).
While the costs associated with the loss of human life are immeasurable, the World Health
Organization (WHO) estimates unsafe water and lack of sanitation costs $334.5 billion across the
globe annually. WHO also estimates a one time cost of $540 billion to secure safe water and sanitation
(Hutton, 2012). Because economic gains would likely recoup in about two years, it is in the world s
best interest, from an economic and humanitarian standpoint, to address the water supply and
sanitation issue.
However, in 2012, United Nations (UN) member states only committed $10.9 billion toward the

Essay Plato s Symposium
Plato s Symposium
Plato s metaphor of the divided line is essentially two worlds; the world of opinion (the physical world
or the world of becoming/existence) and the world of knowledge (the world of knowledge or the
world of being/essence). This concept is key to the context of The Symposium:
Love. It is important to note that as the speeches evolve throughout this particular work they parallel
this concept. Plato has, in this writer s opinion, reinforced his theory through the speaker s by
outlining the journey from the world of becoming (Phaedrus speech) to the world of being (Diotima s
speech). This being so, Diotima and Socrates (the forms) will be the key focus for which all previous

He introduces Heavenly Aphrodite (heavenly love), which this writer believes equates with
homosexual love, and Common Aphrodite (common love), which would be equivalent to heterosexual
love. Common love according to his view is one that is based on sensuality and produces children.
Heavenly love is based on companionship and involves mental and soul oriented pursuits. He places a
great deal of emphasis on virtue. He goes on to say that heavenly love is good and only becomes ugly
if a lover s motive is exploitation. Pausanias has brought out one of Diotima s major points, the idea of
duality in love, although he is not as thorough. His overall outlook seems to be mainly homosexual,
yet recognizes heterosexual love. Next, Eryximachus speaks. He compliments Pausanias on his
explanation of the dual nature of love and argues that there should be a balance between the two. He
elaborates on that by saying both types are required for a peaceful existence; one can not exist with
out the other.
He uses an analogy that equates love with an ailment. It can be removed or implanted. Basically he
alludes to a bond or bridge between the two types of love which Diotima expands on.
Aristophanes finally gets rid of his hiccups. He attempts to explain love by introducing a myth in
which Zeus splits three types

Qajar dynasty was in dire straits as a result and it did not help that the Shah was spending his country

A concession is an amicable agreement to give a certain right such as the ability to improve

Advantages Of Dispensationalism
1. Dispensationalism A Legitimate Theological System
Dispensationalism is a word that most theologians would sneer at because it is seen as a perversion of
the Scriptures. These theologians would not recognize the history of dispensationalism purely because
it would be seen as a relatively new system of interpreting Scripture. Dispensational theology receives
a lot of criticism because it is not properly understood.
Dispensationalism is mainly conservative in biblical interpretation and while there seems to be a

The Law of Attraction
The Law of Attraction Many people in this world live their lives without any aspirations towards
greatness. They think that they don t stand a chance of fulfilling any of the dreams or goals they might
have. Their idea of dreams coming true are far from their imagination and stick around with the absurd
idea of keeping their feet in the ground and stop day dreaming or even think about it. What they don t
know is that by just thinking about it, they re much closer to their dream than what they thought they
were. There are several steps to follow though, steps that will make you reach your goal a lot faster

your head you just might get it.
The law of attraction has been with us always, whether you knew about it or not (Byrne 58). Where
we could see it a lot is with children. Take me for example, when I was little I used to dream about
going to Disney World. I would see the commercials and I would see myself there also. Playing,
meeting my favorite characters, getting on all the rides and just simply having fun. I would pray and
ask my parents to take me. Down deep inside of me I knew I was going to be able to go one day, I
never lost hope. Until one day my aunt decided to organize a trip for the whole family and I just
couldn t believe it! After all that wishing and hoping I finally got to go and made my biggest dream
come true. That s exactly what a person needs to do, have faith that you re going to receive it and just
like a child, don t worry on the how and when to receive it. Just wait and have that certainty of being
able to have it at the right time at the right moment.

Pros And Cons Of Currency War
The phrase Currency War was used to describe the efforts of nations to devalue their own currencies,
in order to increase their competitiveness of export in the international market. In the context of the
reading, major players in the currency war from 2010 to 2013 included the U.S., European countries,
China, Switzerland, and Japan, each using different ways in devaluing the domestic currency: the US
printed a lot of money via quantitative easing (QE) ; China controlled capital inflows through
accumulating foreign currency reserve and undervaluing renminbi; Switzerland prohibited the franc to
appreciate further against the euro; and Japan announced the unlimited purchasing of government
bonds which increases money supply to counter economic downturn. Opponents contended that policy
decisions such as QE are beggar they neighbor actions while they eased domestic economic downturn
in the developed countries alone, the price of such behavior was to be shifted to the international

The Three Abrahamic Religions And Islam
The Three Abrahamic Religions Incongruity despite common Foundation Christianity evolved from
Judaism, and Islam evolved from mainly Syrian Christianity. Naturally the three religions share a lot
of common elements, but also many differences.
Like most religions, the Judaic, Christian, and Islamic religions see themselves as a true religion based
on godly revelation, and claim universal validity. Because of the many different appearances of
religious phenomena, many see themselves faced with the decision whether to grant validity to every
denomination or none of them. In the past and even nowadays, a tendency to intolerance can often be
observed when this claim is made.
Should they really be called Abrahamic Religions?
It seems to be a trend nowadays to refer to the supposedly common Abrahamic traditions when
pointing out the common foundation of the three big religions, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Since
the stories of Abraham in the Old Testament are mentioned and used in all three religions, this can be
seen as the defining common origin leading to the monotheism. However, it s often overlooked that
the transition from Judaic polytheistic monolateralism (believing in several gods, but choosing one
patron god to primarily worship) to monotheism did not start until the Babylonian exile, while the
stories of Abraham took place in the very early history of Israel, in which neither the name for god
Yahweh nor the believe in only one god existed.

the most frequently reported issues. The serious adverse effects were very rare so the vaccine was
considered safe. When reviewing the safety data from the national programs in Australia there were

Mayan Economy Research Paper
Mayan economy was largely based on food and agriculture. For most Mayans, farming was the main
labor resource, this job was dominated by men. Mayans would also work everyday in order to support
their families. It is important to know that one farmer did not own all of a piece of land, as farming
was communal. It is also crucial to know that no money was used in Mayan economics. Farmers were
required to give portions of crops to the government as a form of tax. Other items used to pay this tax
were salt, cloth, honey, fruit and sometimes domestic animals. These items were also used in bartering
and paying for certain things one would need. In Ancient Maya agriculture was the basic form of

Each city state had their own military as it was hard to create an Mayan empire due the limitations of
food and transportation. According to archaeologists as the Classic Collapse time period came closer,
wars became more intense. Wars would commonly happen among separate kingdoms and there would
be revolts against the capitals of each Mayan city. Mayan wars were led by kings also known as Ahau.
In war, nobles were high ranking military leaders. The larger cities states in Maya had well trained
armies who were always ready to attack and be on the defensive side. When one city would be
attacked by another it was for the reason to capture high ranking prisoners to use in their sacrifice.
Also bigger cities would attack smaller cities to dominate them. Important military conquest include
the battle between Calakmul and Tikal during the fifth and sixth century. Both these city states were
powerful and dominant economically, through their military and politically. After Calakmul defeated
Tikal, Tikal took a long time to regain its former high status of the city it used to be. Calakmul
continued to dominate other cities thus continuing to destroy the cities. Some cities were never able to
recover, such as Dos Pilas and Aguateca. As the decline of the Mayan civilization began, the military
downfall proceeded. From 700 to 900 A.D.

There often limited opportunities for intervention before the fact (Markowitz, 2011). Because of this
some offenders tend towards homelessness and crimes of survival such as shoplifting and trespassing,
some committing these non violent crimes as a way of seeking intervention they would not otherwise
have access to (Hinday, 1997). Symptoms of mental illness include; impulsivity and impaired
judgment and can cause already hotheaded youths to act in antisocial ways (Hinday, 1997). A form of
intervention that continually arises in research looking at young offenders is the use of cognitive
behavioural therapy or modification. Cognitive Behavioural therapy is founded on social learning, and
adopts the theory that offenders have learned unsuitable ways of behaving due to their environment
(McGuire, 2003). Many intervention plans include this type of treatment, sometimes coupled with
psychiatric treatments (Jones, Chancey, Lowe amp; Risler, 2010). Cognitive behavioural techniques

Did the exhibition of your work to the public provide you with a worthwhile experience?
Yes, exhibiting my work to the public was a worthwhile experience because it allowed me to see my
project through the eyes of new viewers, as well as over hearing some criticism of my work. Since I
had worked on my project for quite a long time, I became desensitized to my photographs. I did not
see them as revolting anymore, but during the exhibition, I saw a few disgusted reactions. One in
particular was an older woman, who after glancing at my images, made a sour face and immediately
moved on. Although I thought that was a funny reaction, it also reminded me that other people react to
my work in a different way than I do; I thought that my images were fascinating and beautiful, but she
apparently did not. My intent was not for my work to be solely revolting, but if that ... Show more

passionate about doing this type of work. Next year, I will be studying art history at Concordia, and I
do not think that I would have considered this if I had not gone through the ALC program, and I also
do think that the theory classes that I took have prepared me for university and future academic

This essay will attempt to answer the question To what extent is Austria Hungary at fault for causing
the start of World War One? This topic is significant due to the ongoing debate about how WWI
started and because of the debt some countries only recently, have paid off. In 1914, the country to
declare the first war was Austria Hungary s(AH) declaration of war on Serbia. Following this was
Serbia s ally, Russia, who mobilized its troops in preparation, and Germany soon after declaring war
on the russians. As the snowball effect came into place, countries such as France, the United Kingdom
and Belgium followed in declaring different wars amongst each other. This resulted in the start of
World War I. It began in 1914 one of the greatest wars in all of history, ending almost five years after

Cultural Values In The Odyssey
Thousands of peoples of thousands of cultures exist today. Each existing culture possesses customs
valuable to its people. One method of discovering the importance of certain customs to cultures is to
examine their literature. For example, Homer conveys many significant Greek customs throughout the
novel, The Odyssey. In his novel, he explains the importance of hospitality to the Greeks through the
actions of Circe, the goddess, when she takes care of Odysseus s men, and Maron when he provides a
gift of gratitude to Odysseus. A need for order and justification also exemplifies another important
custom of the Greeks.Author Homer utilizes examples of Odysseus s murdering of the suitors who
take over his home and Poseidon s punishment to Odysseus for hurting his son to convey the
importance of the importance of justice to the Greeks . Homer explains this importance through a
cause and effect punishment system from disobeying the gods orders. Piety models another cultural
value of the Greeks through Homer s book, which he explains through details of Odysseus sacrifices,
man s prayers to the gods, and mans humility to the gods power. Through the hospitality of Circe and
Polyphemus, the need for order and justification in obeying the gods, and piety for the gods orders,
Homer reflects important customs to the Greeks in The Odyssey.
To commence, Homer conveys the importance of Greek hospitality through a goddess, Circe, and a

  • 2. The Importance Of Immuno-Oncology As immuno oncology takes the spotlight in cancer therapeutics and pharma companies race to develop new treatments, improvements in the detection of cancers may be just as impactful. Liquid biopsies, top ten technology MIT Technology Review 2015 breakthroughs, are diagnostic tests to detect cancer biomarkers in the blood, urine, and now saliva. Liquid biopsies have been recent blood based tests that analyze circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) or circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in lieu of the standard tissue biopsy. However, exosomes appear to be the next big thing in liquid biopsy and cancer diagnostics. These are nanoscopic membranous messengers that are continually released from all cells into every biofluid in your body (Balaj). From ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While JP Morgan analysts expect demand for liquid biopsies to shoot from $580 million in 2016 (marketsandmarkets.com) to $20 billion per year by 2020 (Standaert), former CEO of Illumina biotech, Jay Flatley says depending on the speed of research findings the number could be closer to a staggering $100 to $200 billion (gov_archives 2016 this is insufficient, address?). Historically, cancer research has focused on finding a cure for what has been thought of as a single disease with rogue cells dividing madly, but research and technologies have exposed how complex cancers really are with intricate genetic differences demonstrating patients are much less alike than we once thought. Genetic and environmental facts have provided myriad different tumor types with unique biological pathways insights. Although traditional chemotherapy and radiation is still common, the race is on to develop targeted therapies to precisely combat pathways unique to the genetic footprint of a specific patient s tumor. Individualized therapies are meant to block tumor growth rather than radiate all rapidly dividing cells, healthy or cancerous, or apply indiscriminately destructive chemotherapeutics (Mullane). Oddly, it is diagnostics that have proven to be among our biggest challenges (Ciardiello) in the targeted therapies and precision medicine world. Biopsy procedures, the leading ... • 3. Canada s Constitutional Issue Of Canada For over fifty years, the status of Canada s constitution has been unable to fully unify, due to the fact that Canada has been unable to address Quebec s constitutional concerns. Much of the ongoing debate addresses if the Constitution should recognize the francophone population of Quebec as a separate nation or a distinct society, with a separate laid out set of different characteristics and needs from the rest of the provinces in Canada . An important question should be how Canada can best acknowledge, preserve, protect and defend Quebec s language and culture. The central debate of this paper will address the issue of how Quebec should handle the important issue of how it should address signing the Constitution of Canada, and how it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Various previous attempts to reach an agreement have failed, as they have been unable to address these issues. However, one of these agreements resulted in the implementation of a constitutional amendment in which implemented the Canadian Bill of Rights that is commonly known as the Canadian Charter of Rights and freedoms. Secondly, this constitutional amendment allowed Canada to make its own constitutional changes and not Great Britain. However, these major changes were made without the consent of Quebec. The fact that these changes were made without Quebec means that a quarter of Canada s population did not agree with the terms. It is simply unacceptable that the Constitutional amendments made in 1982 made an effort to recognize and accommodate Canada s multicultural and Aboriginal populations, yet do nothing in regards to accommodating the distinctive character of Quebec. Quebec was left out again in the debate for the Meech Lake Accord. Rather than make serious attempts to recognize Quebec as a distinct society, too much time was spent in attempt to forge the nation together. Had Meech Lake been successful, it would have respected Quebec s genuine wish to be recognized as a distinct society. Meech Lake would have been able to forge universal language rights because both official languages would receive the same amount of respect in Quebec as it does ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Kristeva s Powers Of Horror Essay Bell Hook s Marginality as a Site of Resistance, is an engaging and powerful comment on the solicitude for all those colonised on the perimeter of society. That one must embrace this position and identify as, but not be defined as the marginalised. Hooks argues in her essay, that succumbing solely to the identity of the oppressed be it race, gender or class, stifles one individualism and creativity. This space that is the margin, that is a site of creativity and power, that inclusive space where we recover ourselves. (Hooks, 1990, p.343) To instead use this site of marginality as a vantage point to gain a formative viewpoint and destabilise the deep structures of power and cultural domination. Kristeva is attempting to explore the different ways in which abjection works within human societies as means of separating out the human and non human. (Creed, 1993, p.8) It will focus on Kristeva s theory of the abject and the construction of the human subject in relation to the border, the mother child relationship and the feminine body. It will also explore how the representation of woman as abject is almost always in relation to her mothering and reproductive functions. The representation of women in relation to Freud s castration and the religious abject as discussed in Powers of Horror will also be examined. This chapter will also include a discussion on Kristeva s abject through Barbara Creed s The Monstrous Feminine. All human societies have a conception of the monstrous feminine, of what it is about women that is shocking. (Creed, 1993, p.1) Creed gives an interesting insight to Kristeva s abject and Freud s theory on castration in horror films. By looking at the construction of female monsters and what it is about them that is monstrous, in particular the archaic mother, the monstrous womb and the castrating mother as archetypes of the abject ... Comparing Iago And Othello Tobiah Rothlingshofer Dr. Kasee Laster English 1102 April 6, 2015 The Honorable Murderer Iago and Othello, as military figures, have shown courage in combat and are respected members of their community. In the end though, each of them kills his wife in a fit of rage. It would be easy to view both of them in the role of a villain. Both men are deeply flawed; however, Iago is the true villain. He enjoys his evil actions. Othello, while allowing jealousy to consume him, is the tragic hero of the story. Othello was raised in and around the military. It is truly tragic that his reputation, his wife, and his life s work are consumed by a fit of jealous rage. His accomplishments rendered worthless as he takes his own life. Countries such as Great Britain and France allowed Germany to continue doing this because they wanted to keep peace in Europe . This was known as appeasement. Appeasement is when nations give into a nation to keep peace. Germany took advantage of other European countries not doing anything to stop them by conquering a large amount of land. Hitler also pledged that he would undo the Treaty of Versailles. He accomplished this by entering a narrow strip of land known as the Rhineland, which was prohibited by the treaty. It s not like they wanted to go work, they had to. Most families did not have enough to eat. Plus it was common to have a family with nine brothers and sisters. The new middle class had a different thought of how their children should spend their days. They would educate their kids, girls would learn to sew, and learn how to maintain a household. Boys were also educated but they were thought to follow in their father s footsteps. Now thats the life every kid wanted instead of risking their lives everyday. Back in the factories young children would assist adult workers. Some of those workers would verbally abuse, or beat them. The boss would punish you if you came late. For example they would tie a weight to your neck and make you walk with it for about an hour. That lead to some serious injuries. Although whale hunting in Japan began in the 12th century, Japan s involvement in the whaling industry began in the 1890s. The international whaling industry functioned normally until 1925 when the League of Nations called for conservation measures in 1925. This eventually led to the Geneva Convention for the Regulation of Whaling in 1931, which was ignored by Japan and Germany. Instead, as whale catches diminished in coastal waters, Japanese whale hunters looked to Antarctica. This started with the Japanese company Toyo Hogei K.K. purchasing the Norwegian ship Antarctic, renaming it the Tonan Maru. However, World War II soon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Japan joined the International Whaling Commission in 1951; however, Japan would later be criticized by environmental organizations and anti whaling nations for making heavy use of Article VIII of the International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling which states that Notwithstanding anything contained in this Convention any Contracting Government may grant to any of its nationals a special permit authorizing that national to kill, take and treat whales for purposes of scientific research subject to such restrictions as to number and subject to such other conditions as the Contracting Government thinks fit, and the killing, taking, and treating of whales in accordance with the provisions of this Article shall be exempt from the operation of this Convention. As the commercial viability of large competing whaling fleets was diminished due to restrictions, six Japanese whaling companies agreed to merge into one in July 1975. The government declared support for the new company, with Prime Minister Shintaro Abe saying, We ask that the flame of the whaling industry will not be put out and that you do your best to secure Japan s food supplies. The con to a movie studio is the fact that there will be various expenses which could result in removing part of their customers who enjoy the low 7.99 rate. Therefore Netflix would become something that it is trying to compete against which is the bigger cable providers. An avenue that Netflix is best suited for is creating original shows, and movies such as House of Cards. • 15. Literary Response To The Moths By Helena Maria Viramontes Literary Response to The Moths The Moths by Helena Maria Viramontes is a fictional short story about the narrator s personal hardship of watching her grandmother die slowly because of natural causes. Although, the name of this story is The Moths don t let this fool you. In this story, references to moths are only used twice. Using the moths, the author is able to convey a theme, help create the tone, and resolve the central conflict. I believe that the moths are actually being used in this story to symbolize some sort of healing and relief. In the following paragraphs, I would like to defend my claim and also show you examples of how Mrs. Viramontes utilizes the moths for many different elements in this story. To start with, in the ... An example of this tone can be found in the story in the second paragraph. The narrator says, I always pricked my fingers or knotted my colored threads time and time again while my sisters laughed and called me Bull Hands . The narrator even goes as far as carrying a piece of jagged brick in her sock to strike her sisters with. Then, when the narrator talks about Abuelita and the good times they have together the tone shifts and now becomes more lighthearted. This lighthearted tone can be found in the story a couple of times, but one significant example of this can be found in paragraph 4. It says, Abuelita would wait for me at the top step of her porch, holding a hammer and nail and empty coffee cans. And although we hardly ever spoke, hardly looked at each other as we worked over root transplants, I always felt her grey eye on me. • 16. Archetypal Hero Introduction Take a minute to think about your favorite comic book character or the superhero that you admired the most during your childhood and adolescent years. To name a few, Batman, Spiderman, Harry Potter, Hercules, and more were just some of the beloved comic book and movie characters that were enjoyed by children and adults alike. They portrayed the traditional archetypal hero, which was to conquer evil and bring peace to the land and to the world. Over the years, they have become role models to children all over the nation, as children would often dress up as their favorite character for Halloween or buy toys at various stores. Also, they were highly praised by society because they were considered the good guy . However, what all these characters have in common is that they are fictional. The depiction of the traditional hero in the media and literature has had an impact on American culture for decades. From their brave spirits, to their brute strength, and selfless personalities made the character appealing to the average person because it gave this ideal almost perfect image of the person that people wished they could be. Despite the fact that these characters and their qualities are completely fictional, the praise and the admiration that the character received at the end of the book or movie due to their heroic deeds targeted every person s secret desire, which is to be respected, honored, and accepted not only by family and friends, but by society as ... At the time he was crowned, Europe was in a state of flux and suffering in terms of economic prosperity, however many African nations were thriving. While ruling, Mansa Musa tremendously expanded the borders of his empire and also annexed the city of Timbuktu. His entire nation spanned over 2,000 miles. On his elaborate pilgrimage to Mecca, he sought out Middle Eastern and European rulers to establish better relations with them. While on his way, he traveled with many camels, tens of thousands of soldiers and so much gold that the rest of the world started to know him as one of the richest men of the world. In his stop to Cairo, he gave so much money to the poor and spent so much gold that his efforts almost resulted in mass inflation, which took many years to tone down that economic crisis. Over the time Mansa Musa ruled, he became a rich man and well known throughout Europe and the Middle East. For this course, this ties in Africa s relevance to Europe and the Middle East. This opens up a door for both trade and war in the future. Section 2 Parker and Rathbone p.43 Europeans and many others have taken a stereotypical view towards Africa in that they are savages and have no form of unity. It is estimated that six million vertebrate animals are dissected in high schools each year, and another 5.7 million are used in college laboratories. The issue of educational dissection has become a national concern. Many groups such as PETA and The Humane Society have been lobbying for years to outlaw such practices, and implement new and safe dissection alternatives. They ruled that under her First Amendment rights Jennifer could object to the dissection on moral grounds, and therefore could not be forced to participate. Jennifer s high school then instated a student choice policy so that students who chose not to participate in dissections would be offered a viable alternative. Now there are seven states that have informed consent laws regarding classroom dissection: Florida, California, Maine, Pennsylvania, Louisiana, Rhode Island, and New York. These laws require that students must be informed of a dissection lab at the beginning of a course, and if they wish, will be provided with an alternative. There are also two states where it is mandatory that students are provided with dissection alternatives: Maryland, and Illinois. There are also several nations that have banned educational dissection from their science curriculums. Argentina was the first in 1987, followed by Slovakia (1994), and Israel (1999). And in 2001, India banned the use of mice, rats, and frogs for any type of dissection purposes. The main issue with statewide dissection laws is that they only apply to elementary, middle, and high schools. Colleges and Universities are not required to follow each state s policy. The And The French Revolution Casper David Friedrich was a German Romantic artist in the nineteenth century that is most known for his landscape paintings that display the romantic ideals of individualism, nature, physical and emotional passion and an interest in the mysteries of the world. Where did these ideals of Romanticism begin? Taking a look back into the 17th century, there was another intellectual movement that changed society, culture and politics. The Enlightenment was a time period lasting throughout the 18th century which brought about the Age of Reason in which politics, philosophy, and science dominated in Europe. The philosophies of the Enlightenment placed emphasis on rational and scientific thought and viewed the natural world as one that is governed mathematically and by scientific laws which could be understood by humankind. The Enlightened philosophies brought about this drastic change in all aspects of society which influenced the several revolutions of that time period such as the American and the French revolutions. After the French Revolution, the concepts of the Old Regime and traditions of the past in Europe were abolished while new concepts introduced by the Enlightenment were being implemented in all areas of politics, culture and society. • 35. The Law of Attraction The Law of Attraction Many people in this world live their lives without any aspirations towards greatness. They think that they don t stand a chance of fulfilling any of the dreams or goals they might have. Their idea of dreams coming true are far from their imagination and stick around with the absurd idea of keeping their feet in the ground and stop day dreaming or even think about it. What they don t know is that by just thinking about it, they re much closer to their dream than what they thought they were. There are several steps to follow though, steps that will make you reach your goal a lot faster with just using your mind and that are what I d like to demonstrate you. Basically every thought you have will contribute to what what s going on in your mind, whether you want it or not if you think about it you ll attract it. Some people say that this is where the saying Be careful with what you wish for comes from. It doesn t matter if it s for good or bad by having it in your head you just might get it. The law of attraction has been with us always, whether you knew about it or not (Byrne 58). Where we could see it a lot is with children. Take me for example, when I was little I used to dream about going to Disney World. I would see the commercials and I would see myself there also. Playing, meeting my favorite characters, getting on all the rides and just simply having fun. I would pray and ask my parents to take me. Down deep inside of me I knew I was going to be able to go one day, I never lost hope. Until one day my aunt decided to organize a trip for the whole family and I just couldn t believe it! After all that wishing and hoping I finally got to go and made my biggest dream come true. That s exactly what a person needs to do, have faith that you re going to receive it and just like a child, don t worry on the how and when to receive it. Just wait and have that certainty of being able to have it at the right time at the right moment. What also keeps a lot of people away from their goals is their fear. Pros And Cons Of Currency War The phrase Currency War was used to describe the efforts of nations to devalue their own currencies, in order to increase their competitiveness of export in the international market. In the context of the reading, major players in the currency war from 2010 to 2013 included the U.S., European countries, China, Switzerland, and Japan, each using different ways in devaluing the domestic currency: the US printed a lot of money via quantitative easing (QE) ; China controlled capital inflows through accumulating foreign currency reserve and undervaluing renminbi; Switzerland prohibited the franc to appreciate further against the euro; and Japan announced the unlimited purchasing of government bonds which increases money supply to counter economic downturn. Opponents contended that policy decisions such as QE are beggar they neighbor actions while they eased domestic economic downturn in the developed countries alone, the price of such behavior was to be shifted to the international market and particularly, the emerging markets. The Three Abrahamic Religions And Islam The Three Abrahamic Religions Incongruity despite common Foundation Christianity evolved from Judaism, and Islam evolved from mainly Syrian Christianity. Naturally the three religions share a lot of common elements, but also many differences. Like most religions, the Judaic, Christian, and Islamic religions see themselves as a true religion based on godly revelation, and claim universal validity. Because of the many different appearances of religious phenomena, many see themselves faced with the decision whether to grant validity to every denomination or none of them. In the past and even nowadays, a tendency to intolerance can often be observed when this claim is made. Should they really be called Abrahamic Religions? It seems to be a trend nowadays to refer to the supposedly common Abrahamic traditions when pointing out the common foundation of the three big religions, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Since the stories of Abraham in the Old Testament are mentioned and used in all three religions, this can be seen as the defining common origin leading to the monotheism. However, it s often overlooked that the transition from Judaic polytheistic monolateralism (believing in several gods, but choosing one patron god to primarily worship) to monotheism did not start until the Babylonian exile, while the stories of Abraham took place in the very early history of Israel, in which neither the name for god Yahweh nor the believe in only one god existed.
