Examples Of Greek Heroes In The Odyssey
Greek Hero or Ordinary Mortal? Throughout all of the Greek mythology and texts that I have read,
each story contains one or more heroes. A hero is a person who is selfless and somehow gets all of the
attention in a story because he or she causes some sort of change. There is always someone who gains
leadership qualities throughout the story and ends of saving the rest of the people. One particular
person who stood out to me was Odysseus. Odysseus was an ordinary person who eventually
accomplished a huge task. He ruled Ithaca with his wife, Penelope, and throughout the story, he tried
to get back to Ithaca after the Trojan War and return to his position as king. Throughout the Odyssey,
there are multiple instances in which Odysseus can be seen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He gains the trust of his people and he fights for his country. He helps his men out of deadly situations
and he is willing to what it takes to set them free. He goes on a journey knowing that he could die, but
he does it for his people. He is considered a hero because he encountered so many bad situations on
his journey, but he eventually came out on top. However, I do not believe that Odysseus is a hero.
Odysseus was a mere mortal with the same flaws as everyone else. Although he came back to his wife,
I still believe that he let her down. If she was able to wait twenty years without having an affair with
someone else, then he should be able to as well. I believe that Odysseus was a hero to so many people,
but I do not believe that he was a hero to his wife. He was not faithful to her, and in my eyes, she
should not have taken him back. Without this one flaw, however, I believe that Odysseus could have
been the most heroic character in all of the Greek texts that I have ever

Essay On Aboriginal People And Hunger
Introduction In 2011, Canada was ranked 9th in the Human Development Index (HDI) and is one of
the most developed countries in the world, yet over half of their Indigenous population lives in
poverty and suffers from hunger. There are approximately 1.4 million Aboriginal persons in Canada
according to a 2011 report by Statistics Canada. A large amount of people speculate why there are so
many people suffering in such a highly developed country. The causes of Aboriginal suffering and
hunger are believed to be the lack of education and health issues that then lead to the primary cause of
hunger which is poverty. Educational Issues Lack of educational resources in Indigenous communities

CBC News reported an article stating that the average annual salary for half the Aboriginal population
was near $20,000 whereas annual food costs for a year is just above $19,000. Queen s Native Student
Association illustrates the cost of certain food items in northern Indigenous communities in Canada
such as the following items; a 24 water bottle pack of $105, a $35 bag of flour, and peppers costing
over $17. These prices are caused by some of the geographical positions of certain communities such
as Nunavut, as it is very expensive to transport. With these numbers, it is an obvious reason why food
is unaffordable and people cannot provide meat for their large families and themselves as individuals.
As a result, 64% of Food Bank users are Indigenous persons (CFTC 2014), a large portion of them
being children. Over half of the users are Indigenous even though they only account for 4% of Canada
s total population. As shown by Amber Hildebrandt on CBC, children suffer the most from hunger;
around 70% feel that food insecurity is a very big part of their lives (Nunavut Inuit Child Survey, 2007
08). In present day Canada, CBC News reported that there are now more than half of the First Nation
children officially living in poverty. Governments could provide more services and programs that
would diminish these shocking

Technology Is Making Its Way Into The Everyday Lives Of...
For many generations the idea of a device that could recognize you simply by your eyes has been the
stuff of science fiction. It was an invention that seemed intangible. However, over recent years this
imaginative and seemingly futuristic technology has become a thing of the present. Each iris has a
unique pattern, like fingerprints, however iris scans have proven to be more accurate and distinct.
Slowly but surely, this novel technology is making its way into the everyday lives of Americans. For
example, colleges, such as George Mason University have begun to use iris scans as a form of
identification in cafeterias; even airports have started to introduce this innovation (MacRumors, 2014).
Not only this, but the invention has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows just how efficient the new scans really are and how quickly it works. The device works
using algorithms and iris codes, collected in phasors (FBI, nd). Once a picture is taken of an individual
s iris these algorithms can be used to encode the pattern into a database which can be used again to
match their identity in the future (MacRumors, 2014). Each iris can be described by 256 bytes (FBI,
nd). This device can impact many areas, just as the standard iris scan was able to do. However, despite
the many areas this new technology is beginning to effect, the criminal justice field is one of the
regions most primarily impacted. Security within the justice field is a major area the IOM handheld
iris scan impacts. In past years, there have been issues reported regarding escaped prisoners; with iris
scans such as these this occurrence becomes extremely unlikely. An example of this is Raymond
Taylor. Taylor was a convicted murderer who escaped in using the cover of his cellmate s identity to
pass through security unnoticed (Welte, 2010). Not only is this a breach of safety, but it is also a wide
wake up call to the level of precaution that is necessary to take in a community in order to ensure the
continued wellbeing and the maintenance of peace in a population. Police officers strive to maintain
this and the justice system as a

Obesity And Weight Loss And Obesity
Obesity
Obesity and weight loss is an issue that many men and women deal with on a daily basis. According to
the Mayo Clinic obesity is defined as a complex disorder involving an excessive amount of body fat
(Mayo, 1998 2016). Obesity in men, women, and children increases the risk of diseases and health
problems, such as heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure. Early prevention during childhood
deceases the chances of the individual being obese during adulthood. Early prevention includes
limiting the amount of sugary drinks, high calorie snacks, and promoting exercise on a daily basis.
Obesity is a worldwide condition that has mental, physical, and social effects on individuals that are
diagnosed with the condition. In this paper the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy,
mindfulness, and motivational interviewing on individuals with obesity will be explored and
discussed.
For many young and older adults treating obesity is not an easy task to accomplish on your own which
leads to yo yo diets and fad diets that are seen on TV. Being overweight can cause a person to become
depressed, binge eaters, and displaying signs of having an emotional disorder. Studies have found that
when depressed people eat to feel better they gain weight and being overweight cause the depression
which triggers the overeating. This cycle of depression and overeating cause the individual to feel
judged, socially rejected, and discriminated against. When the person is obese and

The Snow Ski An Artefact
The Snow ski an artefact in which today we take for granted. This essay will be focussed on
comparing two eras, the medieval ages and today. These two time periods are selected to help depict
the skis relevance towards material in culture. Material culture is best defined as objects which
contribute towards our cultural and social wellbeing whether it s a family emblem or a product
consumed by the masses. It is artefacts from historical periods their designs and how they impact our
lives. There will be a review on the functionality and the cultural importance of the ski and a reflection
of concerns of consumerism and social wellbeing. Personal and contextual information will clarify the
defining moment of the skis transition from its origin. This essay will not be a historical timeline,
instead it will indicate how the snow ski, as an artefact, has been stripped from its original purpose of
transportation, and transformed into one of the world s most extreme and luxurious Sports.
Extreme sport: a sport involving great danger, an activity which pushes the boundaries of human s
physicality (Oxford University Press, 2015). Today skiing is considered as one of the world s most
extreme sports as the skier exhausts their body, challenging the execution of turns at an average speed
of 46.7kmh (Johnson, 2005). The latest technology and engineering in ski development, is focussed on

First Destination Transportation ( Fdt )
First Destination Transportation (FDT), the movement of material from suppliers to the first military
depot or direct to military customer, is about to change from FOB destination to FOB origin. Slated to
begin with solicitations and awards in late October 2013, FDT requires the removal of transportation
related cost from contractor bids. Contractors need only be concerned with quoting the associated
costs of manufacturing their products. Products affected by the October roll out will be those labeled
as Class IX consumables and some Class IV and VII materials to CONUS destinations. Supply Chains
included in the FDT initiative are: Aviation, Land and Maritime, Construction and Equipment, and
Industrial Hardware. Then you also have Second Destination Transportation (SDT). This is where the
cost comes into play to ship Army Post Office mail, transportation of organizational equipment,
permanent change of station, temporary duty cost, depot maintenance, and any cost that is not funded
through FDT. Once these items, equipment, or other materials that have been contracted and sent to
the first destination and the items need to be moved to another location SDT picks up that bill.

Nurse Anesthetist Research Paper
Being a nurse anesthetist involves many skills and a lot of knowledge. A nurse anesthetist or CRNA is
a dangerous job because someone s life is in the CRNA s hands and if they mess up the dose of
medicine it could be risky. According to Nurse Anesthetists, most nurse anesthetists have a master s
degree which would be 4+ years of schooling. To be a nurse anesthetist one must convey
communication and interpersonal skills because the job involves talking with their patients before and
after surgery to figure out what medicine to administer to them. To be a CRNA requires strong science
and technical skills to differentiate the kinds of medicines. Also, a nurse anesthetist needs strong math
skills to figure out how the dosage of medicine for each patient ( Nurse Anesthetists ). Becoming a
CRNA involves a lot of hard work and study because one needs to be sharp and on their toes incase

area is in Chicago at Rush University. CRNAs administer approximately 43 million anesthetics every
year to patients in the United States ( 29 1151 Nurse Anesthetists ). Anesthetics are very dangerous so
it surprised me how much a CRNA administers in a year. A nurse anesthetist is a very unique job

How To Go Back Into A Truck Essay
I slop through the mud, moving damp chunks of ash from the ground to the back of the truck. I
continue this repetitive motion until it becomes innate, not slowing to consider the actions of my body.
My mind drifts to thoughts of some far away place. A place I often visit to comprehend the
incomprehensible, to piece together pieces that never really fit, and to explain the unexplainable. It s a
place where nothing makes sense yet everything is calm. Will you help me lift this into the truck? My
mind becomes distorted as I m taken from that abstract place, the place where I find comfort in the
doubts and reason in the foolishness. I m brought to the bare field filled only with my family, dog, and

something important. I watch my father and siblings work and begin to wonder whether other families
work together as a unit like ours does. Do the children help with the work traditionally for men? If so,
are they as willing as we are? I realize my family isn t like the typical family you see nowadays. We

We are the way we are and it works. We re all our own people with our own thoughts, personalities,

Carrie The Musical Analysis
On the evening of July 27th, I attended a production of Carrie: The Musical based on the novel Carrie
by Stephen King. The musical was performed by Near West Theater in Cleveland and directed by
Devon Turchan. The main character who name is Carrie White is an outcast through the entire play
and her entire life you learn this when the other students talk about past experiences with Carrie. The
main antagonist in the play is her very own mother Margaret White. Ms.White is a very religious
woman that wants to protect Carrie from the dangers in the world and even herself, very
overprotective women and to what I believe very crazy. The plot is brought to life by supporting
characters/actors in the play who names are Sue Nell, Tommy Ross, Chris Hargensen, Billy Nolan,
Miss Gardner. The actions of all these people building up and resting on carrier shoulders throughout
the play cause her to find out she has powers. The end of Act II is when everything comes together
Carrie who was invited to the prom by Tommy Ross in a generous gesture that was purposed by Sue
Nell. The prom was going very well and Carrie was becoming carefree and was seeing everything she
missed out on. Things took things for the worse when Chris and Tommy pour pigs blood on her when
she won prom queen. Carrie took all the frustration and years of bullying and the powers she found
out about she burned everyone alive at the prom. When she got home she was covered in blood and

Why Was The Great Wall Worth Building Dbq
This is a quote from a soldier guarding the walls perspective. We fight south of the wall, we die north
of the wall (Document F). The Great wall was constructed to keep out the invaders from north of
China. The Great Wall of China was built in Asia, north of China. The chinese built it during the
dynasties era. Was the Great wall worth building? The Great Wall of china was not worth building. It
was not worth building, because it caused many deaths, tore families apart, and was not well
constructed.
One reason why the Great Wall was not worth building, is because it caused many deaths. In a chart it
says According to poetry and legends, tens of thousands of soldiers died from hunger, sickness, and
extreme heat or cold. No exact number of deaths are available. (Document E). This source shows that
many people died from defending the wall and cruel temperatures, hunger and sickness. For doing this
you earn nothing in return. That the wall couldn t even defend it self. In a poem it says The cavalry
fight to the death,... If rice isn t harvested, how will you eat? Although we are willing to serve loyalty,
how can we live this way . (Document F) This source shows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In compiled sources it says Soldiers forced to leave families and villages for several years .
(Document E). This shows that the great Wall was not worth building, because it tore families apart
and this shows how soldiers were taken away for several years to work on the Great Wall. In a sad
story it says Fan Ziliang was one of these man, and on the very day of his wedding he was dragged
away to work on building the Great Wall... Meng Jiangnu was heart broken . (Document G). This also
supports that the Great Wall was not worth building, because it shows how men were taken away from
any occasion, such as their wedding day to work on the Great wall. As in this the bride to be was to be

Relational, and the main components found in Attachment. The main theorists that will be addressed
include, Sigmund Freud, John Bowlby, Mary Ainsworth, and some work of Melanie Klein. The author
will provide a detailed explanation on attachment and object relations theory and how it can be
incorporated with a client who is suffering from Anorexia Nervosa and how the impact of
development correlates with this specific clientele. As well as, examples of therapeutic interventions

During the latency stage, the child/client begins to imitate their behaviors, mannerisms, speech, and
values of culture. For instance, this will initially allow the child to identify with their primary sexual
characteristics towards the corresponding parent, leading to increased sexual desires and behaviors.
Sexual latency begins from the age of six and lasts approximately five years. The child begins to
associate with the same sex orientation and is able to distinguish appropriate behaviors in society,
creating the superego. The genital phase begins from the ages of eleven to eighteen, which comprises
of increased pleasure from masturbation and is experienced more frequently than the anal stage. Freud
rationalized that all individuals are homosexual creatures; however, individuals do not experience
homosexual behaviors or relationships. Throughout this stage, individuals will begin to formulate
relationships with the opposite sex, which supersedes further development of the superego leading to
individuation and autonomy (Garcia, 1995).
In the next sections, the author will discuss the framework of attachment theory by John Bowlby and
Mary Ainsworth since both theorists worked collaboratively with attachment styles and object
relations theory. John Bowlby coined the theory of attachment based on the object relations

Rough Draft Vasco Da Gama, a little known Portuguese man, discovered a trade route to India on
behalf of the Portuguese government. A feat Christopher Columbus was unable to accomplish. Vasco
Da Gama was a boy born in Sines, Portugal, sometime between 1460 and 1469. The actual date of his
birth is unclear. As a child Da Gama dreamed of becoming a pirate (World Book Online). He began
sailing after studying astronomy, navigation and mathematics in high school. When he was 15, Da
Gama went on short trading voyages to Africa (Larkin, 6). His hero was the navigator of Portugal,

For example, when he was mad, da Gama killed several people and took 3 prisoners. He caused this
tragedy because the king scammed him. The king scammed him by trading two bells and two gold
lumps for one navigator instead of three. You can see why da Gama was mad, right (Larkin, 14)?
Vasco da Gama thought he could trade caps and bells for emeralds and diamonds (Larkin, 9). He did
not realize that he was insulting the Zamorin, Indian ruler, and that would usually cost da Gama his
life, but he was smart and brought more expensive goods just in case.
Vasco da Gama had accomplishments that helped him in very many ways. One was to travel to India.
Da Gama s plan was to travel to Calicut, India. This would be his greatest achievement. Achievements

Symbolism In A Good Man Is Hard To Find
In the short story A Good Man is Hard to Find , Flannery O Connor uses symbolism to display various
hidden meanings throughout the story. One common theme portrayed by the symbols in the story is
the families impending death. Some examples regarding their impending death are the Misfits car, the
forest, the sky, the grandmothers hat, and prayer. The use of symbolism throughout the story allows
for readers to get a feel for what may occur. As evidenced in this short story, O Connor uses several
circumstances and objects that hint at what was going to happen next. In A Good Man is Hard to Find
symbolism is prominent in describing the outcome of the family s trip. One symbol that immediately
strikes as dark and deadly is the Misfits car. O Connor describes the car, It was a big black battered
hearselike automobile. (O Connor 476). This hearselike appearance symbolizes the family s imminent
death because the car literally holds dead people, this is a hidden signal that death has arrived. Since a
hearse carries the message of death, the car could also represent the gruesome past that the three men
are dragging along. Another example of symbolism in the story is the dark forest. Alike, the forest also
represents the impending death of the family. The author writes ...the line of the woods gaped like a
dark open mouth. (O Connor 477). The dark open mouth symbolizes the death they will all face as
they are lead into the forest, group by group to be killed. O Connor makes

The Pros And Cons Of Nuclear Power
Statement of intent That Nuclear power is a great way to produce power and is not as bad as it is said
to be. This will be directed teens and young adults looking for a quick read in a small informative
magazine. The following piece of writing is about how nuclear energy is a good source of power. This
is important because of the growing population and the need for electricity. I am writing this for teens
and young adults as just a small informative. Splitting the atom is a dangerous practice that can
cause widespread destruction but when used properly it is the best source of energy possible. Not only
does this method create huge amounts of energy for the amount of fuel required, but is also incredibly
environmentally friendly with a very low impact. Nuclear energy is not as dangerous as most people
believe it is. You can disagree and say nuclear power is dangerous but times have changed. Modern
reactors and containment facilities are far safer and more advanced now. Out of the thirty three
countries operating nuclear power plants, there have only been three major accidents. These were
Fukushima, Chernobyl and Three Mile Island. Only the Chernobyl accident in 1986 had fatalities. In
fact it had the only fatalities caused by a commercial nuclear disaster. The reactors used at Chernobyl
were the very flawed and poorly designed Soviet reactor which were designed at the birth of the
nuclear age. They were unable to cool themselves in an emergency shutdown or stop of the

Use Of Phase Of Building A Largest Stage That Impacts...
Use phase of building is the largest stage that impacts environment during the life cycle, so require
more attention in the field of energy saving of building. In the initial design stage of buildings,
through LCA can help design decisions, such as the appropriate use of zero energy building
techniques. To quantitatively assess the energy consumption and environmental impact among all
above stages, LCA is undoubtedly the best choice that can full evaluate the impacts during extraction
of raw materials, material creation, sale, maintenance, disposal or recycling, also global warming, air
pollution, water pollution and other index. Thereby more effectively improving environmental
performance is to achieve green building. LCA will provide the support of data on saving water,
energy, material and other indicators. Based on LCA gradually promote the use of the Environment
Product Declaration (EPD), this declaration will serve as a business and marketing communication
product sustainability information, greatly enhance the green building(products) influence in the
consumers. In today with increasing serious energy and environmental issues, using green building
instead of traditional high energy building has become a trend. Life cycle thinking and ways can
facilitate the development of the green building process, and help us to make more environmentally
friendly choices for building design and material selection, especially as consumers we need to follow.

Book Review Of The Notorious Benedict Arnold
The Notorious Benedict Arnold Noah Collins 4th Period Chapters 1 3 The book opens to a grim scene
of a crowded field, filled with angry and shocked people, surrounding the gallows and looking at the
road ahead as a band marched in playing a funeral march. Behind the band marched the broken and
defeated Benedict Arnold, former general of the rebel army and traitor to the new country of The
United States, in prison rags and shackles. The somber scene concludes with Arnold swallowing his
saliva and marching onward towards his sure death. The story of Benedict Arnold begins 39 years
earlier in the port town of Norwich, Connecticut. Benedict Arnold was born to a wealthy family in
Norwich in one of the coldest winter months ever recorded. He was named after his dead brother of
the same name and was some what of a rebel in his younger days. His parents sent him off to a
respected boarding school where his real troubles began. In August of 1753 he received a letter from
his mother, Hannah. It told of an awful outbreak of yellow fever in Norwich that is soon to claim the
lives of his younger sisters Mary and Hannah. Two weeks later he received a follow up, in which his
mother stated that Hannah was out of danger but his 8 year old sister, Mary, was dead. Soon after,
Benedict s youngest sister, Elizabeth, died of yellow fever. As his pranks and tricks at school became
increasingly violent, Benedict s father s shipping business was dying and his drinking problem got

1. Process of data transmitting in this software[6]
In order to avoid taking too much time on main thread, we need to build up a buffer that store video
data stream temporarily and then put these image data into face detector to do some image processing.
After that, information that was detected will be transmitted to the first view to control the movement
of that virtualized face. For now, there have been several kinds of face recognition applications online,
however, most of them are used for capturing face when taking photos. There are also some
application to create the illusion of real 3D on iOS devices[8] .There is still no try on virtualization of
human expression application.
II. PROJECT PLAN
A. Subject Searching
During this period, I analyze the possibility of implementing human face expression and decide the
topic of this project. The deadline for searching project topic is October 23rd.
B. Initial Literature Search and Reading

and approachability of Shakespeare on a grand scale. A particular scene that captures Pacino s
message occurs around halfway through the film. Prior to this scene, Frederic Kimball is providing his
subjective insight on the motives of Richard III venturing to woo Lady Anne, while also implying that
Lady Anne specifically places herself into the narrative in order to be wooed. Al Pacino rolls his eyes
at Kimball s theory and opens a question to the rest of the crew, Does anyone have a better thing than
Frederic on this? (Pacino, Looking for Richard). This question leads into the discussion of who is the
authority on Shakespeare. A debate in which critics, scholars, performers, and the general public have
been attempting to answer for ages. From that conversation, the scene then opens with a medium shot,
centering the frame towards a half body shot of Kimball. Kimball s arms are extended, inviting the
audience in to listen to his dialogue. The edge of the frame provides a close up of Al Pacino and
Winona Ryder. Pacino s hand is directing the audience s attention towards Kimball. The framing of

Analysis Of The Movie The Dark Night Rises
The Dark Night Rises July 20th 2012 held the midnight premiere of the anticipated film, The Dark
Night Rises, this night was also the premiere of an idea in my head, that I passionately hated guns.
The Aurora shooting was a massacre that carved a deep impression on my beliefs in relation to guns
and even more so, the moral people. It was after that incident that I began to see America s ethical
spine for what it really was, bent and partially broken. As the ethical backbone of this country
continues to twist and curve in uncomfortable directions, I fear the safety of the future. A dark night
did rise in that midnight hour and continues to do so with every incident and heartbreak this country
endures. Life is no longer sacred, hope is deferred and this nation is lost searching for a solution. Guns
have become somewhat of an arch nemesis to many in this country. There is only one implication that
guns reveal, and that is death. To possess, to use, to practice with a gun is to imply that one intends to
inflict bodily harm on another and although in some cases this intention may be good, in most, it is
not. Even in the hands of those who assume the duty to protect this country, are questioned on whether
or not using a gun was the right decision. If a police officer can be found guilty of misuse of a firearm;
men and women who have trained and practiced physically and mentally on how to operate a gun,
how then can a normal citizen expect to use one correctly? American is

Evolutionary Psychology In Modern Society
The lecture this week started with the progress of society. Darwin noted that in a society, competition
is need to weed out the weak, also known as survival of the fittest. In the modern society of humans,
there is support that is provided for a wide range of differences among all members, so there is little
need to apply survival of the fittest to modern society. One man argued against this, and he believed
that we should moved towards a utopian state in society where no person has any problems, even if
that were to mean losing people along the way. Galton, interested in heredity, noted that certain
humans had this eminent characteristic, and discovered that eminent people are typically related to
other eminent people. This pushed him to believe that perhaps intelligence is hereditary. If intelligence
could be hereditary, then wealth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They noticed how biology is a very scientific that relies on evolution because without evolution,
biology doesn t make much sense. So, psychologists wanted to try applying evolution to psychology.
Evolutionary psychology looks at typical problems and sees if these problems have evolved as
humans evolved. Evolutionary psychology also spends a lot of time looking at how human aspects
play a role in society. Evolutionary psychologists believe that certain instincts are present in humans
because of natural selection. People have certain modules that are needed for certain tasks and
handling problems. Neuroimaging showed how certain areas of the brain light up when the individual
solves certain problems. But, evolutionary psychologist do not say something is innate or instinctive,
they describe it as a part of human nature. This field of science is another perspective for
understanding humans. I have never really learned about this field, so I find it interesting and consider
multiple ways in which this field could be applied to

Most Of The High School Students Follow The Footsteps Of
Most of the high school students follow the footsteps of the older generation. After four year of High
School comes four years of undergraduate and after undergraduate degree pursuit of master s degree.
However, the timeline isn t quite as organized. As more students are encouraged to apply to colleges,
more colleges and Universities are being founded. However most of the major public Universities
such as Penn State, Rutgers and Indiana University of Pennsylvania gain their share of students
through transferring students. According to the article published in USA Today, students are taking
longer than 4 years to graduate college and the main reasons behind it are change of majors, lack of

Change of Universities is one of the reasons why students take longer to graduate. Mostly because the
credits that are offered in one institution are not counted in the other institution. Thus it is hard to keep
track of what credits or courses the student has take during the non traditional 2 year institution.
(Rhine, Milligan) The article by Whine and Milligan describe the adversities transfer students face
coming from community colleges. One of the suggestions made to community colleges to ameliorate
the transferring process of the students is close advising and creation of a goal plan. The lack of a goal
erases the sense of duty and perseverance in students. If student don t have a plan, they attend college,
attend social gathering and parties, however fail to gain the knowledge or sense of direction the
college provides for individuals who take advantage of advising and career development. In addition
to frequently changing their majors, the transfer students face the experience that is referred to as the
transfer shock . This term refers to the academic struggles that transfer students face after the
transition period. Transfer students may experience a sharp decline in GPA the semester after
transferring. (McCormick pg. 2) Because of the declines grades, the transfer students are discouraged

The Use Of Bacteri Lactobacillus And Bifidobacterium Essay
For every eukaryotic cell in the human body, scientists estimate that there are about ten prokaryotic
cells present, which means that more than half of what makes up the human body is 30 40 trillion
bacteria and archaea. Recent research suggests that this diverse microbiota is both directly and
indirectly responsible for human mental and physical health. As the human body develops, so does the
microbe flora. Lactobacillus acidophilus (L acidophilus), L. fermentum, L. plantarum, and L. rhanosus
are just some of the dangerous sounding bacteria that are not just beneficial but essential to proper
human health. All of these helpful strains of bacteria are given the common name of probiotics.
Scientists are just now beginning to understand the immense effect of the gut bacteria in human
everyday lives and they, very well, may find that through manipulation of probiotics, any disease
could potentially be inhibited/cured.
There are two major groups of probiotic bacteria: Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium. Lactobacillus, a
rod shaped, gram positive bacterium, is the most popular probiotic used and can be found in fermented
foods, like kimchi, and yogurt. Bifidobacterium, a gram positive, non motile bacterium, is the other
probiotic choice approved for common usage. More and more bacteria are being added to the list of
potential probiotics. The benefits of probiotics range from prevention/remission of infectious diarrhea,
antibiotic associated diarrhea, crohn s disease, hepatic

The Responsibility Of Political Parties
When we think of political parties, our minds automatically link with the popular two: The Republican
party and the Democratic party. These two parties have made a reputation for themselves. Being the
top two, people often forget that there are other platforms aiming for the coveted role of presidency.
Some of these other platforms include the Libertarian party and the Green party. The Green party, in
particular, is one of the newest and smallest parties. In this past election, people were not as familiar
or educated on the Green party as they were on the other parties, therefore, people assumed it would
be a waste to vote for the Green party candidate, Jill Stein. The Green party was founded on four

political platforms. People are afraid to waste their vote on a second choice party. Unfortunately, this
is a fact. Green party candidates that ran for president, House of Representatives, and the Senate have

Short Essay About The Aztecs
The Aztecs were a complex civilization, I don t know much about the Aztec Civilization, I only know

playing as that civilization, and they have always made me more interested in them. What I know, is
eventually they came upon a spot with an eagle sitting on a cactus with a serpent wrapped in it s legs,
that s where Tenochtitlan would be built. Montezuma was their leader, he was fierce and strict, but at
the same time kind hearted and understanding, but nobody mistook his kindness for weakness, except
for the Spanish. The Aztecs would fight enemies and enslave the rebellions and sacrifice them. The
ones that cooperated, would have to pay tributes every few weeks though. Those people could live a
normal life, just under Aztec control. They built things called skyfarms. Those farms were very well

Maturity Rating
Two doctors, W. Marshall and J. M. Tanner staged puberty into five Sexual Maturity Rating (SMR)
stages, commonly referred as Tanner Stages one through five. The staging helps determine whether
development is normal for a given age and it is based on pubic hair growth, on genital development,
and female breast development. The age at which puberty begins can vary widely between cultures.
Variation in timing of puberty around the world is affected by genetic factors (family, ethnicity, and
gender), intrauterine conditions, nutritional state, body mass, general health, light darkness cycle and
climatic conditions, and exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) (Parent et al., 2011).
Several studies support the variance in tanner staging in different cultures. A large cross sectional ...

Corporate Incentives for Hedging and Hedge Accounting
Abstract
The aim of this term paper is to supply an analysis on the rationales for corporations to apply hedging
and hedge accounting. In order to do so, P. M. DeMarzo and D. Duffie s paper Corporate Incentives
for Hedging and Hedge Accounting published 1995 will be reviewed and analysed.
This term paper will start with a short review of the literature on corporate risk management and

In 2008, Muller and Verschoor, published a study on 471 non financial European firrms from the UK,
Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. In this study they aim to investigate the informational effect of
disclosing derivative positions. It is an interesting matter since European firms did not disclose any of
this information until 1990. The study focuses on the usage of foreign exchange derivatives while also
investigating the condition in which a firm decides to employ these instruments and to which extent.
Even though they have found evidence of the firms using derivatives, their study presented weak
results in terms of informative effect of derivative position disclosure.
Model
DeMarzo and Duffie build a model in their paper in order to illustrate the relationship between
investors, accounting information and managers incentive. It involves other factors such as the choice
between accounting and economic risk hedging, derivative position disclosure, firm reputation and
volatility of managers future wages. To illustrate their interaction consider the following graph:

Evolution Of American Attitudes And Ideologies Apropos Of...
In this essay I explain the evolution of American attitudes and ideologies apropos of Britain from 1764
to 1776. I do so by, first, beginning with providing the context and explaining the state of the
relationship between America and Britain throughout the course of the years 1764 to 1774, which in
turn, consequently lead up to and instigated the creation of Thomas Jefferson s 1774 piece entitled A
Summary View of the Rights of British America. Next, second, I situate and analyze this very piece,
that being: Thomas Jefferson s A Summary View of the Rights of British America, which is was a tract
written before the Declaration of Independence, in which Thomas Jefferson (under his own personal
authority/discretion) lays out for the delegates of the First Continental Congress a set of grievances
directly against the King of England and his corresponding Parliament, and moreover, ultimately
radically forewarns and threatens specifically the King of England to fundamentally change, alter, and
lessen Britain s stronghold on America or else something will be done on behalf of America. Finally,
third, I reach to and evaluate another subsequent document, that being: the Committee of
Five/Continental Congress 1776 Declaration of Independence, which is a statement written by the so
called Committee of Five (Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Roger Sherman, and
Robert Livingston) and the Continental Congress, which was to be adopted by the newly formed

Faith in Kierkegaard s Breaking the Waves Essay example
Faith in Kierkegaard s Breaking the Waves
In Soren Kierkegaard s Fear and Trembling, he discusses the Three Movements to Faith. For
Kierkegaard, faith of any kind involves a paradox. This paradox, as well as Kierkegaard s suggested
path to faith, is illustrated by the main characters of Breaking the Waves, Bess and Jan.
Kierkegaard explains there are steps one can take towards faith; however, they are so difficult he
believes only one person, the Knight of Faith, has completed the movements. The first step is for one
to make her/his wish the complete focus of her/his concentration. This finite desire must dominate one
s consciousness, and must be the only wish she/he hopes for. Although the desire may seem

as Jan works on an oil rig. Bess thanks God for the greatest gift (Jan) and is hysterically unhappy
when he is gone. Initially Bess must consummate her love for Jan: her love has finite requirements,
namely, having him home and engaging in sexual activity. She asks God to send Jan home ( Nothing
else matters...won t you send him home? ), and believes she is responsible for the injury that brings
him home. God tells Bess, your love for Jan has been put to the test : since Bess is concerned with the
finite, her love is not yet made eternal, and Jan s condition declines. Jan wishes to set Bess free, and,
resigning they will never again make love, loses the will to live; he believes that by dying he will set
her free, since she would not be allowed to divorce him. Jan begins his movement towards faith,
moving his love towards the infinite, and encourages Bess to take a lover to be happy. Since Jan is not
as strong as Bess, he can not complete the movements to faith. Since he does not have faith, he values
the finite: Jan proclaims to Bess If I die, it will be because love couldn t keep me alive. He tells Bess
that she could give him the will to live by

Mental Illness In Gran Torino
Our experiences shape who we are. Gran Torino by Clint Eastwood is a moving film that depicts
topics such as racism, mental illness and sacrifice in a modern setting without sugarcoating. In the
film, korean war veteran and curmudgeon Walt Kowalski becomes an unexpected hero and father
figure to nextdoor neighbour Thao Lor. Gran Torino begins in a funeral home, where protagonist Walt
is mourning the death of his spouse, grimacing at the reality of being widowed and the disrespect of
his children and their families. After the death of his wife, Mr. Kowalski does little other than drink his
weight in beer daily and make critical comments towards his neighbours and surrounding community.
Besides the company of his yellow labrador Daisy, Walt is alone with his thoughts. Because Walt
acquired racism through experience where the race he discriminates was an enemy in reality, it is not
truly one of his traits and can be undone as he is human and is able to overcome his mental illness,
which is the reasoning for his intolerance. Initially, Walt is racist because he has been trained not to
trust koreans and will not be bothered to distinguish the difference between who he had fought and his
neighbours. He struggles to realize that he is no longer at war and mentally is unable to move on from
that state of mind. In a scene following Walt s first threat towards the gang, it is evidently identified
that he is still living in the past through an interaction between him and Father

to plan to protect the most data and also which areas is more operation critical. While preventing
interruption is the most important aspect of this plan, no one can predict the weather or any other

has been documented, the organization will need to test, evaluate and update schedule.
Risk Management Plan
The risk management plan defines what activities within the organization are critical to operations.
During this stage of planning, Wilma Stone, Margie Nelson, Gary Thomas and other Sunshine

Summary Of Out Of The East By Paul Freedman
As stated in Paul Freedman s, Out of the East: Spices and the Medieval Imagination, The passion for
spices underlies the beginning of the European colonial enterprise, a force that remade the
demography, politics, culture, economy, and ecology of the entire globe (Freedman 3). By the mid
fifteenth century, the Silk Road was deteriorating, leaving the world with the solid grasp on trading, as
well as supply and demand. Every country and area had developed their trade mark and had adequate
understanding on the process of trading. At this time, European s still had many mysteries they were
trying to solve, regarding demography, politics, culture, economy, and ecology, as Freedman
mentioned. Spices gave European s the gateway they needed to unlock many new ideas. This new
desired commodity enabled European s to think outside the box, which resulted in a multitude of uses
for spices, which made them an even more luxurious item. According to Freedman, Of all the world s
commodities, spices most dramatically affected history because they launched Europe on the path to
eventual overseas conquest, a conquest whose success and failure affects every aspect of
contemporary world politics (3). Freedman exhibits here that spices not only affected Europe, but the
whole world as well. Spices intertwined Europe with the rest of the world. Because spices were a
undiscovered product by most of the world, it was a mystery on how they should be used, and what
they should be used with.

other hand, Bolivia has suggested that larger powers such as the United States, Russia, and the United

liberty and equality. Liberalist believe at all costs our basic liberties (freedom of speech etc..) should
be preserved as well as our equality. Conservatives on the other hand believe in traditional values and
feel more comfortable when things remain constant. Conservatives base their values on traditions and
what they are used to which is difficult because the world around us is changing and it does not
remain constant. When these two groups ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance since liberals wanted equality they really pushed for the abolition of slavery and
segregation. Also they wanted to limit the power of the Catholic church and that is what really made
the conservatives not happy with the liberalists.. As far as these two groups having tension I believe
the tension was at a peak in the 19th century but will always be in tact. Both of these groups have
completely different ideals on political issues. Also as many new immigrants came in to work on
plantations even more religions and cultures were introduced and it created a very diverse Latin
America. This diversity made it extremely difficult for nationalism to take place. The nineteenth
century was increasingly difficult for the liberal reformers in Latin America due to the Caudillos. With
Caudillos in place it made it difficult for either liberalism or conservatism to take place because when
there s a dictatorship people are lead by the dictators rather than swayed by the ideals of liberals or
conservatives. Caudillos even promised power to those who supported them they were sort of the
muscle of the political world at the time in Latin

The Past and Present of Terrorism and Counterterrorism in China
Introduction
This paper traces the evolution of China s indigenous conceptualization of terrorism and counter
terrorism practice from Imperial China to the modern era. It mainly explores the historical and cultural
underpinnings and the current pragmatic diplomacy that have shaped the evolution.
Since the concept of terrorism did not originate in China and retains much ambiguity, it is helpful to
understand the local characters within a comparative framework. The fundamental question then
becomes what is terrorism in the contemporary world. In the United States ( U.S. ), the Executive
Order 13224 defines terrorism as activity that (1) involves a violent act or an act dangerous to human
life, property, or infrastructure, and (2) appears to be intended to intimidate or coerce a civilian
population; to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or to affect the
conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, kidnapping, or hostage taking. Despite
that existing legal scholarship has paid much attention to the wide range of definitions of terrorism,
the U.S. version is sufficient for the purpose of this paper.
Interestingly, notwithstanding a want of the word terrorism in Imperial China and workable official
legal definition of terrorism in modern China, terrorist like activities have long existed and been
viewed as politically motivated violence against the state.

Discuss the reasons why the Bolsheviks had achieved so little by 1914
Despite being the main opposition to the Tsar in Russia at the time, the Bolsheviks failed to make any
significant progress in their aims to overthrow the Tsarist autocracy, due to many problems throwing
the party in to crisis, with their efforts to influence the proletariat to revolt against the Tsar proved to
be failed attempts. In order to come out with a fair and balanced conclusion, it is necessary to look at
the opinions of historians from both ends of the spectrum: from the sympathetic Soviet historians, to
the more critical opinions of the Western historians, and then lastly looking at the more balanced and
neutral views ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the light of this, the tsar brought out a law stating that no law could be passed without his
permission. The Okhrana, the Tsar s secret police, were another obstacle for the Bolsheviks, as due to
the large scale membership of the Mensheviks, Lenin became wary of a large party due to suspicion
from the Okhrana, as the Tsar was clamping down on any form of revolutionary party. It was this that
made Lenin think that the best way to move forward was with a small, tight knit party of professional
revolutionaries. However this still did not help as Lenin and his party were forced into exile during the
early 1900 s due to scares from the Okhrana and the autocracy. The newest problem the Bolsheviks
would have to overcome was how would they be able to dictate affairs in Russia while in exile? The
Soviets argue the answer by stating that Lenin was relaying messages back to Russia in hope of
stirring up revolution. Another reason for the lack of achievement was Stolypin s land reforms which
they allowed the peasants to opt out of the Mir, thus, in a way, diminishing the need for an uprising.
The land bank was then established so they could buy their own land, and this encouraged
resettlement and Stolypin hoped to create a class of Kulaks. This

Why I m Fine Rudolph
Imagine a Café in a quiet street with a European mood. A nice place, not a lot of people and it s 10 am.
There s a table where three men sit, all of them very sharp. They are speaking in German. So how are
you today Riccardo? says one. I m fine Rudolph, how are you? The third man is concentrated in coffee
and cigarettes.
Riccardo Klement is a technician who works in a metal factory and lives with his family in the elegant
Palermo Chico Neighborhood, in downtown Buenos Aires where the coffee place is located. Helmut
Gregor is the owner of a pharmaceutical company and lives with his family in the suburbs. The third
man is Emilio Meier who works as president Peron s air force advisor and lives in the same
neighborhood
Keep the same picture in mind, but now knowing that those are false identities and that these three
men are Adolf Eichman, Himmler s right hand during the war and charged with the logistics of the
extermination camps after final solution decision, Joseph Mengele, who chose who went to gas
chambers in Auschwitz and is known for his experiments with humans and Hans Ulrich Rudel, the
most highly decorated soldier of the German Air force during the war. It is 1950.
The scene described previously actually took place frequently after the war. Nazis in Argentina
remained loyal to their politics meeting for coffee in the mornings and clinking glasses in the evening
cheering to the good old days . Three Nazi criminals, responsible for millions of lives, are simply

Greek Mythology Essay
Since the beginning of time the people of the world have their share of beliefs. Greek mythology is the
arguably the most popular region of study. In Ancient Greece every citizen had a patron that would
protect them and pantheism was commonplace. The Romans admired the Greeks in their art and
culture and even took different aspects of their gods. Polytheism was widely accepted in all cultures so
the seed of mythology bloomed. The time line of the creations of gods to the end of their reign is an
important factor in Greek Mythology.
Creation
The creation of the gods starts with chaos and from the chaos came the endless gods: Eros, Tartarus,
and Gaea (Love, hell, and the earth). Gaea created Uranus, the first ruler of the sky and Eros ... Show

Being unsuccessful, he went up to the heavens to his wife who had another spiteful plan. ( Cronus )
The Fall of Cronus and the Rise of the Olympians Once Zeus was fully grown he returned to his father
s realm and with the help of his mother, hoodwinked Cronus to drink an emetic that made him
disgorge his children (Leadbetter). It was these children: Hades, Poseidon, Hestia, Hera and Demeter
who helped Zeus wage the Titan war against Cronus. The women titans refused to help Cronus defeat
the Olympians and even a few male titans helped aid the Olympians. After ten years of battles, the
Olympians were able to banish the Titans into the Underworld (Titanomachy). It was after this war
that Zeus seized the throne and divided the sky, the underworld, and the sea amongst him and his
brothers. (Hades: the underworld, Poseidon: the sea, and Zeus: the sky.)
Gigantomachy
After the Olympians took rule over the world, Gaea grew upset about the order of things. It was either
because she thought that the Titians were not being treated fairly, or because she felt that she was
being appreciated. Either way, she was angered and decided that she wanted to take over. She brought
forth creations that were birthed to overthrow the Olympians: the Giants. Amongst them were
Typhoon and Echidna (Hatzitsinidou). Typhoon was said to be so tall that his head scrapped the sky.
There is some debate on what he was said to appear to be, but the most popular reference is that he

The Grand Story Of The Bible
The Bible is composed of many different stories and narratives. Each one of these individual stories
contributes to the greater story of the Bible; sometimes called the Grand Story of Scripture. Within
each Story, they have elements that define the setting, characters, climax, and themes. The overall
Grand Story of Scripture contains these elements in each of the five divisions: prologue, epilogue, and
three acts in between. The first division of the Grand Story of Scripture is the prologue. In the
prologue, readers are introduced to the setting and main character of the book, as well as secondary
characters. The setting is the Garden of Eden, where creation has just taken place. The main character
is God, the protagonist. Readers are introduced to God at the very beginning of Genesis, when it
states, In the beginning, God... Typically, readers are given a glimpse of what the main character is
like. As the Grand Story of Scripture progresses, readers are introduced to new concepts and
characteristics about God. Each of the stories within the Grand Story have their own main characters,
yet the focus is on how God is restoring back to original goodness the mess creation got itself into.
Within the prologue is the Creation story. In Genesis, there are two different creation stories. From
these accounts, readers are informed that God created everything known and unknown, seen and
unseen. In addition, each of the accounts reveals a theological truth about God. The first

  • 2. Examples Of Greek Heroes In The Odyssey Greek Hero or Ordinary Mortal? Throughout all of the Greek mythology and texts that I have read, each story contains one or more heroes. A hero is a person who is selfless and somehow gets all of the attention in a story because he or she causes some sort of change. There is always someone who gains leadership qualities throughout the story and ends of saving the rest of the people. One particular person who stood out to me was Odysseus. Odysseus was an ordinary person who eventually accomplished a huge task. He ruled Ithaca with his wife, Penelope, and throughout the story, he tried to get back to Ithaca after the Trojan War and return to his position as king. Throughout the Odyssey, there are multiple instances in which Odysseus can be seen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He gains the trust of his people and he fights for his country. He helps his men out of deadly situations and he is willing to what it takes to set them free. He goes on a journey knowing that he could die, but he does it for his people. He is considered a hero because he encountered so many bad situations on his journey, but he eventually came out on top. However, I do not believe that Odysseus is a hero. Odysseus was a mere mortal with the same flaws as everyone else. Although he came back to his wife, I still believe that he let her down. If she was able to wait twenty years without having an affair with someone else, then he should be able to as well. I believe that Odysseus was a hero to so many people, but I do not believe that he was a hero to his wife. He was not faithful to her, and in my eyes, she should not have taken him back. Without this one flaw, however, I believe that Odysseus could have been the most heroic character in all of the Greek texts that I have ever ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay On Aboriginal People And Hunger Introduction In 2011, Canada was ranked 9th in the Human Development Index (HDI) and is one of the most developed countries in the world, yet over half of their Indigenous population lives in poverty and suffers from hunger. There are approximately 1.4 million Aboriginal persons in Canada according to a 2011 report by Statistics Canada. A large amount of people speculate why there are so many people suffering in such a highly developed country. The causes of Aboriginal suffering and hunger are believed to be the lack of education and health issues that then lead to the primary cause of hunger which is poverty. Educational Issues Lack of educational resources in Indigenous communities has an effect on the jobs and levels of income of Aboriginal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... CBC News reported an article stating that the average annual salary for half the Aboriginal population was near $20,000 whereas annual food costs for a year is just above $19,000. Queen s Native Student Association illustrates the cost of certain food items in northern Indigenous communities in Canada such as the following items; a 24 water bottle pack of $105, a $35 bag of flour, and peppers costing over $17. These prices are caused by some of the geographical positions of certain communities such as Nunavut, as it is very expensive to transport. With these numbers, it is an obvious reason why food is unaffordable and people cannot provide meat for their large families and themselves as individuals. As a result, 64% of Food Bank users are Indigenous persons (CFTC 2014), a large portion of them being children. Over half of the users are Indigenous even though they only account for 4% of Canada s total population. As shown by Amber Hildebrandt on CBC, children suffer the most from hunger; around 70% feel that food insecurity is a very big part of their lives (Nunavut Inuit Child Survey, 2007 08). In present day Canada, CBC News reported that there are now more than half of the First Nation children officially living in poverty. Governments could provide more services and programs that would diminish these shocking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Technology Is Making Its Way Into The Everyday Lives Of... For many generations the idea of a device that could recognize you simply by your eyes has been the stuff of science fiction. It was an invention that seemed intangible. However, over recent years this imaginative and seemingly futuristic technology has become a thing of the present. Each iris has a unique pattern, like fingerprints, however iris scans have proven to be more accurate and distinct. Slowly but surely, this novel technology is making its way into the everyday lives of Americans. For example, colleges, such as George Mason University have begun to use iris scans as a form of identification in cafeterias; even airports have started to introduce this innovation (MacRumors, 2014). Not only this, but the invention has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This shows just how efficient the new scans really are and how quickly it works. The device works using algorithms and iris codes, collected in phasors (FBI, nd). Once a picture is taken of an individual s iris these algorithms can be used to encode the pattern into a database which can be used again to match their identity in the future (MacRumors, 2014). Each iris can be described by 256 bytes (FBI, nd). This device can impact many areas, just as the standard iris scan was able to do. However, despite the many areas this new technology is beginning to effect, the criminal justice field is one of the regions most primarily impacted. Security within the justice field is a major area the IOM handheld iris scan impacts. In past years, there have been issues reported regarding escaped prisoners; with iris scans such as these this occurrence becomes extremely unlikely. An example of this is Raymond Taylor. Taylor was a convicted murderer who escaped in using the cover of his cellmate s identity to pass through security unnoticed (Welte, 2010). Not only is this a breach of safety, but it is also a wide wake up call to the level of precaution that is necessary to take in a community in order to ensure the continued wellbeing and the maintenance of peace in a population. Police officers strive to maintain this and the justice system as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Obesity And Weight Loss And Obesity Obesity Obesity and weight loss is an issue that many men and women deal with on a daily basis. According to the Mayo Clinic obesity is defined as a complex disorder involving an excessive amount of body fat (Mayo, 1998 2016). Obesity in men, women, and children increases the risk of diseases and health problems, such as heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure. Early prevention during childhood deceases the chances of the individual being obese during adulthood. Early prevention includes limiting the amount of sugary drinks, high calorie snacks, and promoting exercise on a daily basis. Obesity is a worldwide condition that has mental, physical, and social effects on individuals that are diagnosed with the condition. In this paper the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and motivational interviewing on individuals with obesity will be explored and discussed. For many young and older adults treating obesity is not an easy task to accomplish on your own which leads to yo yo diets and fad diets that are seen on TV. Being overweight can cause a person to become depressed, binge eaters, and displaying signs of having an emotional disorder. Studies have found that when depressed people eat to feel better they gain weight and being overweight cause the depression which triggers the overeating. Slated to begin with solicitations and awards in late October 2013, FDT requires the removal of transportation related cost from contractor bids. Contractors need only be concerned with quoting the associated costs of manufacturing their products. Products affected by the October roll out will be those labeled as Class IX consumables and some Class IV and VII materials to CONUS destinations. Supply Chains included in the FDT initiative are: Aviation, Land and Maritime, Construction and Equipment, and Industrial Hardware. Then you also have Second Destination Transportation (SDT). The child begins to associate with the same sex orientation and is able to distinguish appropriate behaviors in society, creating the superego. The genital phase begins from the ages of eleven to eighteen, which comprises of increased pleasure from masturbation and is experienced more frequently than the anal stage. Freud rationalized that all individuals are homosexual creatures; however, individuals do not experience homosexual behaviors or relationships. Throughout this stage, individuals will begin to formulate relationships with the opposite sex, which supersedes further development of the superego leading to individuation and autonomy (Garcia, 1995). • 15. Symbolism In A Good Man Is Hard To Find In the short story A Good Man is Hard to Find , Flannery O Connor uses symbolism to display various hidden meanings throughout the story. One common theme portrayed by the symbols in the story is the families impending death. Some examples regarding their impending death are the Misfits car, the forest, the sky, the grandmothers hat, and prayer. The use of symbolism throughout the story allows for readers to get a feel for what may occur. As evidenced in this short story, O Connor uses several circumstances and objects that hint at what was going to happen next. In A Good Man is Hard to Find symbolism is prominent in describing the outcome of the family s trip. One symbol that immediately strikes as dark and deadly is the Misfits car. O Connor describes the car, It was a big black battered hearselike automobile. (O Connor 476). This hearselike appearance symbolizes the family s imminent death because the car literally holds dead people, this is a hidden signal that death has arrived. Since a hearse carries the message of death, the car could also represent the gruesome past that the three men are dragging along. Another example of symbolism in the story is the dark forest. Alike, the forest also represents the impending death of the family. The author writes ...the line of the woods gaped like a dark open mouth. (O Connor 477). The dark open mouth symbolizes the death they will all face as they are lead into the forest, group by group to be killed. O Connor makes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This will be directed teens and young adults looking for a quick read in a small informative magazine. The following piece of writing is about how nuclear energy is a good source of power. This is important because of the growing population and the need for electricity. I am writing this for teens and young adults as just a small informative. Splitting the atom is a dangerous practice that can cause widespread destruction but when used properly it is the best source of energy possible. Not only does this method create huge amounts of energy for the amount of fuel required, but is also incredibly environmentally friendly with a very low impact. Nuclear energy is not as dangerous as most people believe it is. You can disagree and say nuclear power is dangerous but times have changed. Modern reactors and containment facilities are far safer and more advanced now. Out of the thirty three countries operating nuclear power plants, there have only been three major accidents. These were Fukushima, Chernobyl and Three Mile Island. Only the Chernobyl accident in 1986 had fatalities. In fact it had the only fatalities caused by a commercial nuclear disaster. Use phase of building is the largest stage that impacts environment during the life cycle, so require more attention in the field of energy saving of building. In the initial design stage of buildings, through LCA can help design decisions, such as the appropriate use of zero energy building techniques. To quantitatively assess the energy consumption and environmental impact among all above stages, LCA is undoubtedly the best choice that can full evaluate the impacts during extraction of raw materials, material creation, sale, maintenance, disposal or recycling, also global warming, air pollution, water pollution and other index. Thereby more effectively improving environmental performance is to achieve green building. LCA will provide the support of data on saving water, energy, material and other indicators. Based on LCA gradually promote the use of the Environment Product Declaration (EPD), this declaration will serve as a business and marketing communication product sustainability information, greatly enhance the green building(products) influence in the consumers. In today with increasing serious energy and environmental issues, using green building instead of traditional high energy building has become a trend. Book Review Of The Notorious Benedict Arnold The Notorious Benedict Arnold Noah Collins 4th Period Chapters 1 3 The book opens to a grim scene of a crowded field, filled with angry and shocked people, surrounding the gallows and looking at the road ahead as a band marched in playing a funeral march. Behind the band marched the broken and defeated Benedict Arnold, former general of the rebel army and traitor to the new country of The United States, in prison rags and shackles. The somber scene concludes with Arnold swallowing his saliva and marching onward towards his sure death. The story of Benedict Arnold begins 39 years earlier in the port town of Norwich, Connecticut. Benedict Arnold was born to a wealthy family in Norwich in one of the coldest winter months ever recorded. He was named after his dead brother of the same name and was some what of a rebel in his younger days. His parents sent him off to a respected boarding school where his real troubles began. In August of 1753 he received a letter from his mother, Hannah. It told of an awful outbreak of yellow fever in Norwich that is soon to claim the lives of his younger sisters Mary and Hannah. • 21. Now Is The Winter Of Our Discourse By Al Pacino s... Now is the winter of our discourse. Made glorious summer by Al Pacino s documentary, Looking for Richard. The documentary presents a facet of cultural and academic critiques of performing Shakespeare while striving to turn those preconceived presumptions on their head. Pacino s documentary shakes up the script and provides an interesting dialogue on the importance, influence, and approachability of Shakespeare on a grand scale. A particular scene that captures Pacino s message occurs around halfway through the film. Prior to this scene, Frederic Kimball is providing his subjective insight on the motives of Richard III venturing to woo Lady Anne, while also implying that Lady Anne specifically places herself into the narrative in order to be wooed. Al Pacino rolls his eyes at Kimball s theory and opens a question to the rest of the crew, Does anyone have a better thing than Frederic on this? (Pacino, Looking for Richard). This question leads into the discussion of who is the authority on Shakespeare. A debate in which critics, scholars, performers, and the general public have been attempting to answer for ages. From that conversation, the scene then opens with a medium shot, centering the frame towards a half body shot of Kimball. Kimball s arms are extended, inviting the audience in to listen to his dialogue. The edge of the frame provides a close up of Al Pacino and Winona Ryder. Analysis Of The Movie The Dark Night Rises The Dark Night Rises July 20th 2012 held the midnight premiere of the anticipated film, The Dark Night Rises, this night was also the premiere of an idea in my head, that I passionately hated guns. The Aurora shooting was a massacre that carved a deep impression on my beliefs in relation to guns and even more so, the moral people. It was after that incident that I began to see America s ethical spine for what it really was, bent and partially broken. As the ethical backbone of this country continues to twist and curve in uncomfortable directions, I fear the safety of the future. A dark night did rise in that midnight hour and continues to do so with every incident and heartbreak this country endures. Life is no longer sacred, hope is deferred and this nation is lost searching for a solution. Guns have become somewhat of an arch nemesis to many in this country. There is only one implication that guns reveal, and that is death. To possess, to use, to practice with a gun is to imply that one intends to inflict bodily harm on another and although in some cases this intention may be good, in most, it is not. Even in the hands of those who assume the duty to protect this country, are questioned on whether or not using a gun was the right decision. If a police officer can be found guilty of misuse of a firearm; men and women who have trained and practiced physically and mentally on how to operate a gun, how then can a normal citizen expect to use one correctly? • 24. Evolutionary Psychology In Modern Society The lecture this week started with the progress of society. Darwin noted that in a society, competition is need to weed out the weak, also known as survival of the fittest. In the modern society of humans, there is support that is provided for a wide range of differences among all members, so there is little need to apply survival of the fittest to modern society. One man argued against this, and he believed that we should moved towards a utopian state in society where no person has any problems, even if that were to mean losing people along the way. Galton, interested in heredity, noted that certain humans had this eminent characteristic, and discovered that eminent people are typically related to other eminent people. This pushed him to believe that perhaps intelligence is hereditary. If intelligence could be hereditary, then wealth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mostly because the credits that are offered in one institution are not counted in the other institution. Thus it is hard to keep track of what credits or courses the student has take during the non traditional 2 year institution. (Rhine, Milligan) The article by Whine and Milligan describe the adversities transfer students face coming from community colleges. One of the suggestions made to community colleges to ameliorate the transferring process of the students is close advising and creation of a goal plan. There are two major groups of probiotic bacteria: Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium. Gran Torino begins in a funeral home, where protagonist Walt is mourning the death of his spouse, grimacing at the reality of being widowed and the disrespect of his children and their families. After the death of his wife, Mr. Kowalski does little other than drink his weight in beer daily and make critical comments towards his neighbours and surrounding community. Summary Of Out Of The East By Paul Freedman As stated in Paul Freedman s, Out of the East: Spices and the Medieval Imagination, The passion for spices underlies the beginning of the European colonial enterprise, a force that remade the demography, politics, culture, economy, and ecology of the entire globe (Freedman 3). By the mid fifteenth century, the Silk Road was deteriorating, leaving the world with the solid grasp on trading, as well as supply and demand. Every country and area had developed their trade mark and had adequate understanding on the process of trading. At this time, European s still had many mysteries they were trying to solve, regarding demography, politics, culture, economy, and ecology, as Freedman mentioned. Spices gave European s the gateway they needed to unlock many new ideas. This new desired commodity enabled European s to think outside the box, which resulted in a multitude of uses for spices, which made them an even more luxurious item. According to Freedman, Of all the world s commodities, spices most dramatically affected history because they launched Europe on the path to eventual overseas conquest, a conquest whose success and failure affects every aspect of contemporary world politics (3). Freedman exhibits here that spices not only affected Europe, but the whole world as well. Spices intertwined Europe with the rest of the world. Commissionary intervention occurs when a country would like to be a part of the solution to a country s crisis, but does not wish to engage directly in the conflict. For example, Bolivia may be able to produce a small aid package that contains medical supplies and food to the Yemenis citizens. On the other hand, Bolivia has suggested that larger powers such as the United States, Russia, and the United Kingdom intervene and work together in a balance of power to create a solution. Throughout the simulation, Bolivia has most aligned with this form of intervention. It has proven to be difficult to coordinate efforts among the United Nations Security Council members. An intervention strategy of quarantine requires that there is cooperation within the region, but runs the risk of diaspora interference and weakening Yemen, Saudi Arabia, and even Bolivia. This poses an issue, as Saudi Arabia has forbade any type of aid shipments being allowed into Yemen, for fear that rebel terrorist groups will ship in arms. Because of the instability in the Middle East, and it s concern for terrorism human life, Bolivia would not want to further aggravate the situation by causing Yemenis citizens to be displaced. Bolivia simply does not have the authority or military capability to facilitate such intervention. The Bolivian military is negligible compared to the other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Two Seperate Political Groups In The 19th Century Anytime two separate political groups try to share their ideas with others their becomes this tension and fude, especially during the 19th century because people were less accepting of multiple ideologies and multiple political outlooks. Also liberalists tend to change laws as long as they remain based on liberty and equality. Liberalist believe at all costs our basic liberties (freedom of speech etc..) should be preserved as well as our equality. Conservatives on the other hand believe in traditional values and feel more comfortable when things remain constant. Conservatives base their values on traditions and what they are used to which is difficult because the world around us is changing and it does not remain constant. When these two groups ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance since liberals wanted equality they really pushed for the abolition of slavery and segregation. Also they wanted to limit the power of the Catholic church and that is what really made the conservatives not happy with the liberalists.. As far as these two groups having tension I believe the tension was at a peak in the 19th century but will always be in tact. Both of these groups have completely different ideals on political issues. Also as many new immigrants came in to work on plantations even more religions and cultures were introduced and it created a very diverse Latin America. This diversity made it extremely difficult for nationalism to take place. The nineteenth century was increasingly difficult for the liberal reformers in Latin America due to the Caudillos. With Caudillos in place it made it difficult for either liberalism or conservatism to take place because when there s a dictatorship people are lead by the dictators rather than swayed by the ideals of liberals or conservatives. Caudillos even promised power to those who supported them they were sort of the muscle of the political world at the time in Latin ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Past and Present of Terrorism and Counterterrorism in... The Past and Present of Terrorism and Counterterrorism in China Introduction This paper traces the evolution of China s indigenous conceptualization of terrorism and counter terrorism practice from Imperial China to the modern era. It mainly explores the historical and cultural underpinnings and the current pragmatic diplomacy that have shaped the evolution. Since the concept of terrorism did not originate in China and retains much ambiguity, it is helpful to understand the local characters within a comparative framework. The fundamental question then becomes what is terrorism in the contemporary world. In the United States ( U.S. ), the Executive Order 13224 defines terrorism as activity that (1) involves a violent act or an act dangerous to human life, property, or infrastructure, and (2) appears to be intended to intimidate or coerce a civilian population; to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, kidnapping, or hostage taking. Despite that existing legal scholarship has paid much attention to the wide range of definitions of terrorism, the U.S. version is sufficient for the purpose of this paper. Interestingly, notwithstanding a want of the word terrorism in Imperial China and workable official legal definition of terrorism in modern China, terrorist like activities have long existed and been viewed as politically motivated violence against the state. ... Discuss the reasons why the Bolsheviks had achieved so little by 1914 Despite being the main opposition to the Tsar in Russia at the time, the Bolsheviks failed to make any significant progress in their aims to overthrow the Tsarist autocracy, due to many problems throwing the party in to crisis, with their efforts to influence the proletariat to revolt against the Tsar proved to be failed attempts. In order to come out with a fair and balanced conclusion, it is necessary to look at the opinions of historians from both ends of the spectrum: from the sympathetic Soviet historians, to the more critical opinions of the Western historians, and then lastly looking at the more balanced and neutral views ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the light of this, the tsar brought out a law stating that no law could be passed without his permission. The Okhrana, the Tsar s secret police, were another obstacle for the Bolsheviks, as due to the large scale membership of the Mensheviks, Lenin became wary of a large party due to suspicion from the Okhrana, as the Tsar was clamping down on any form of revolutionary party. It was this that made Lenin think that the best way to move forward was with a small, tight knit party of professional revolutionaries. However this still did not help as Lenin and his party were forced into exile during the early 1900 s due to scares from the Okhrana and the autocracy. The newest problem the Bolsheviks would have to overcome was how would they be able to dictate affairs in Russia while in exile? The Soviets argue the answer by stating that Lenin was relaying messages back to Russia in hope of stirring up revolution. Another reason for the lack of achievement was Stolypin s land reforms which they allowed the peasants to opt out of the Mir, thus, in a way, diminishing the need for an uprising. The land bank was then established so they could buy their own land, and this encouraged resettlement and Stolypin hoped to create a class of Kulaks. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Greek Mythology Essay Since the beginning of time the people of the world have their share of beliefs. Greek mythology is the arguably the most popular region of study. In Ancient Greece every citizen had a patron that would protect them and pantheism was commonplace. The Romans admired the Greeks in their art and culture and even took different aspects of their gods. Polytheism was widely accepted in all cultures so the seed of mythology bloomed. The time line of the creations of gods to the end of their reign is an important factor in Greek Mythology. Creation The creation of the gods starts with chaos and from the chaos came the endless gods: Eros, Tartarus, and Gaea (Love, hell, and the earth). ( Cronus ) The Fall of Cronus and the Rise of the Olympians Once Zeus was fully grown he returned to his father s realm and with the help of his mother, hoodwinked Cronus to drink an emetic that made him disgorge his children (Leadbetter). It was these children: Hades, Poseidon, Hestia, Hera and Demeter who helped Zeus wage the Titan war against Cronus. The women titans refused to help Cronus defeat the Olympians and even a few male titans helped aid the Olympians. After ten years of battles, the Olympians were able to banish the Titans into the Underworld (Titanomachy). It was after this war that Zeus seized the throne and divided the sky, the underworld, and the sea amongst him and his brothers. (Hades: the underworld, Poseidon: the sea, and Zeus: the sky.) Gigantomachy After the Olympians took rule over the world, Gaea grew upset about the order of things. It was either because she thought that the Titians were not being treated fairly, or because she felt that she was being appreciated. Either way, she was angered and decided that she wanted to take over. She brought forth creations that were birthed to overthrow the Olympians: the Giants. Amongst them were Typhoon and Echidna (Hatzitsinidou). Typhoon was said to be so tall that his head scrapped the sky. • 48. The Grand Story Of The Bible The Bible is composed of many different stories and narratives. Each one of these individual stories contributes to the greater story of the Bible; sometimes called the Grand Story of Scripture. Within each Story, they have elements that define the setting, characters, climax, and themes. The overall Grand Story of Scripture contains these elements in each of the five divisions: prologue, epilogue, and three acts in between. The first division of the Grand Story of Scripture is the prologue. In the prologue, readers are introduced to the setting and main character of the book, as well as secondary characters. The setting is the Garden of Eden, where creation has just taken place. The main character is God, the protagonist. Readers are introduced to God at the very beginning of Genesis, when it states, In the beginning, God... Typically, readers are given a glimpse of what the main character is like. As the Grand Story of Scripture progresses, readers are introduced to new concepts and characteristics about God. Each of the stories within the Grand Story have their own main characters, yet the focus is on how God is restoring back to original goodness the mess creation got itself into. Within the prologue is the Creation story. In Genesis, there are two different creation stories. From these accounts, readers are informed that God created everything known and unknown, seen and unseen. In addition, each of the accounts reveals a theological truth about God. The first ...
