Iran Nuclear Deal And Its Effects On The Middle East
The Iran Nuclear Deal has caught the attention of many nations around the world. The Iran Nuclear
Deal, is a deal that will prevent Iran from developing an atomic bomb, by reducing and controlling the
amount of plutonium and uranium available for them to use. One of the most important countries
involved in this deal is the United States. The United States is currently debating whether they should
agree to this nuclear deal. Agreeing to this deal will benefit the United States, by suspending some of
Iran s specialized weapons, making Iran less of a threat. America has enough to contend with, and
making a deal with Iran will put America in a much more secure position. Iran is notorious for their
harsh acts of terrorism, and the devastation of their specialized weaponry, including ballistic missiles.
It is outlined in the deal that Iran will suspend and delay the amount of time, special weaponry is
available to them, limiting their harsh acts of terrorism throughout the Middle East. The United States
has vital national interests in the Middle East, including their security of allies, ensuring the
availability of region s energy supply, opposition to terrorism, and the proliferation of weapons of
mass destruction. (Haass) Iran having access to their special weaponry, will put the interests of the
United States in jeopardy. If Iran attempts to destabilize any of these interests, the U.S will view it as a
threat, and will take military action if necessary. It is integral for

This reflective paper aims at analyzing my learning experience in the Personal and Research Skills
module and how these experiences are likely to help both my post graduate study at The Robert
Gordon University and my future career.
During my post graduate studies at The Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, Personal and Research
Skills was one of the four modules I took in the first semester. This module invoked a mixed feeling of
anxiety and eagerness to learn more about effective learning skills, critical thinking and problem
solving. I had many thoughts going ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When students reflect upon their learning, they engage in a potentially transformative act of
responding to, connecting with, and analyzing an experience, event, process, or product. Reflection is
thus one way to bridge the separate thought and action: an opportunity for students to describe their
internal processes, evaluate their challenges, and recognize their triumphs in ways that would
otherwise remain unarticulated (Allan Driscoll 2014). Being a reflective learner would therefore help
me be more proactive in applying my existing knowledge to create new ideas and improve my
understanding of course material. Reflective learning would also have a positive impact on my future
career since I would be able to develop my learning and thinking abilities by building on the critical
evaluation of my past learning experiences and applying them to my work. I believe this would make
me self aware and give me the ability to identify and address my strengths and weaknesses. I therefore
agree with the argument by (Moon, 2002) that reflection improves the depth and relevance of
individual learning (Moon, 2000 cited by Trehan, 2008). If I had no knowledge of effective learning
skills, I would have been stressed out whenever I come across an academic, social or professional
challenge which would have had a negative impact on my performance in the long run.

The Compromise Of Food In Louisiana
People in Houston were told to evacuate their homes and to leave everything behind, due to the
hurricane, but they couldn t leave everything so they compromised and only brought with them the
things that were an absolute necessity. Not a lot of people are able to compromise so easily. For some
people this is a hard subject to grasp. Food is a major thing to in society today that not many people
can agree on. Food is such a huge part of our everyday lives, but when two people are asked what they
want to eat it seems that no one can come to an agreement. Food, however, is, something beautiful to
be shared with people (M.F.K. Fisher), not something to cause problems and arguments when a
decision about the food can t be made. More often than not it s really hard to compromise, but when it
s for the greater good and taking in account people other than yourself, there s a certain satisfaction
earned. In order to be considered a well rounded person in society, it is inevitable that one has the
ability to compromise. I had to experience compromise first hand in the humid, swampy, hot, seafood
loving, Louisiana. Four regions of south Louisiana were settled by the Cajuns. (Ducote). So it s
probably pretty safe to say that Louisiana houses some pretty good, traditional Cajun food. This
experience has helped me to realize my place in our culture when in comes to being a cordial,
agreeable person.

Companionship In Frankenstein
Companionship A friend is defined as a person whom one knows and trusts. In every society in the
world, people have this essential relationship and need it. In some societies this relationship is given
more importance than others, such as family relationships. In today s society, friends are given almost
the same attention as ones family member. Family is the closest relationship a person has, but a
companion or a friend has almost, if not more, the same relationship. In the novels, Frankenstein and
A Color Purple, Mary Shelley and Alice Walker focus on the human need for companionship and how
the characters want, look for, and need companionship. In everyday life, humans want to interact with
each other. They do meaningless tasks with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Frankenstein, The Creature asks Victor to make him a companion just like him: I demand a creature
of another sex, but as hideous as myself; the gratification is small, but it is all that I can receive, and
shall content me (Shelley 148). This shows that The Creature is lonely, and is looking for someone to
keep him company. It is very lonely for the creature, and not just because the monster is shunned and
hated by all mankind (Shelley 147). He s shunned and hated by all womankind, too: Shall each man,
he says, find a wife for his bosom, and each beast have his mate, and I be alone? (Shelley 172). He
begs Frankenstein to make him a mate, and he really seems sincere when he says that he s just
planning to move to South America and eat acorns and berries (Shelley 148). The creature knows the
human race offers no consolation to him so he wants a mate like him. People run, scream, or try to kill
him whenever they see him. Celie also has a need for companionship. In The Color Purple, A key role
in the book seems to be a sense of recognition to Celie. She gains proper respect from others and
makes friends due to her courage and standing up for herself. As Celie states: I don t know nothing
bout it, I say to Shug. I don t know much she say (Walker 113). This statement shows that Celie is
beginning to experience a real relationship with someone she cares about. For the first time in her life
she truly loved someone besides her sister. This is when Celie gains self confidence from being with
Shug, and with this she finally learned how to stand up to Mr. Albert. We are shown this for one of the
first times in the discussion at dinner. At that dinner we really get to see how much Celie has grown
and how independent she is becoming. She tells Mr. Albert: You a lowdown dog is what you is what s

The Second And Current Republic
Introduction
From French revolution in 1789, France has had five different republican systems. The fifth and
current republic was an outcome to the Algerian crisis in 1950 s.
The First Republic began with the fall of King Louis XVI in 1792 and ended with Napoleon
Bonaparte declaring himself emperor of the First French Empire in 1804. After Napoleon s empire had
ended, a period of monarchies followed, until the 1848 Revolution saw the birth of the Second
Republic, paradoxically enough with the election of Napoleon s own nephew, Napoleon III, as its first
president. The Second Empire collapsed in 1870 with the catastrophic war against the Prussians,
which the French soundly lost. That same year, the Third Republic was created. Although the Third
Republic had a long life, it was on the other hand quite unstable. In the period from 1929 to 1939,
there were 18 different governments. The Third Republic ended in 1940 with the German occupation
of France. The Fourth Republic was established after the war and officially put in place in 1946 and
successfully led France to an economic recovery after Second World War. This essay discusses about
the constitution of French fourth republic on 13 October 1946 with the Liberté, égalité, fraternité
motto, head by Charles de Gaulle.
Historical Overview
Foreign policy of France in early 1940s was alliance with USSR and informal understanding with
Britain all based on the assumption of main threat from Germany. In 1914 when Germany

Australopithecus Afarensis, and Australopithecus Africanus...
The phylogeny started off with Proconsul heseloni as the common ancestor to Sivapithecus indicus,
Australopithecus afarensis, and Australopithecus Africanus. The reasoning for this was from the
approximated age of Proconsul heseloni of 23 million years ago. This places Sivapithecus indicus
roughly 15 million years after, suggesting that Sivapithecus indicus directly evolved from Proconsul
heseloni.
From Proconsul heseloni, it was decided that three species evolved from it. These species included A.
A. afarensis, A. africanus and Sivapithecus indicus. Sivapithecus indicus was branched off the early
human evolutionary line as the characteristics from the dentation and skull characteristics differed
from that of A. afarensis and A. africanus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This difference can be used to infer that they lived in different areas of the world as it can be assumed
that the diets of the two were unalike, explaining the dissimilarity of the canine size. As it is inferred
that the two species lived in different regions of the world, it can be assumed that they co existed at
the same time period.
Homo habilis followed A. africanus indicating that A. africanus was a direct ancestor of H. habilis.
The reasoning for this included the brain weight and body weight of the H. habilis slightly increased
from that of A. africanus. As there was a general increase the overall brain to body weight ratio,
indicating that there was an increase in the overall body weight of the two.
Homo erectus was branched off after H. habilis as the justification for this was from the muzzle angles
of the different species. As H. erectus had a muzzle angle of 107° it was decided that it was reasonable
to assume that H. erectus evolved from H. habilis. However, in the overall positioning of the
phylogeny, it was placed on a side branch off H. habilis. This reasoning for this was that if H. erectus
was placed on the main evolutionary line to evolve from H. ergaster, the muzzle angles from H.
ergaster, H. erectus, and Homo neaderthalensis would increase then decrease. It would not be logical
to place H. erectus on the main evolutionary line. Further justification that H. erectus was not a direct
ancestor

Abortion Is The Medical Process Of Ending A Pregnancy
An abortion is the medical process of ending a pregnancy so it does not result in the birth of a baby. It
is also sometimes known as a termination or a termination of pregnancy . Depending on how many

In this paper I will concentrate on the opinion and stand point, of Christians Scholars that is for
abortions and Scholars that are against abortions. They will argue if abortions are morally acceptable.
I have also included the opinion of a pastor and how he feels what the bible say s about abortions. As I
continue with my research the answer if abortions are morally right or wrong was never agreed upon,
but by law it is legal.
The Argument in Defense of Abortion
Philosophers have attempted to justify abortion by denying that all abortions are intentional killing.
They have granted that an unborn human being has a right to live, but have then argued that this right
does not entail that the child in the womb is morally entitled to the use of the mother s body for life
support. In effect, their argument is that at least in many cases, abortion is not a case of intentionally
killing the child, but a choice not to provide the child with assistance, that is a choice to expel the
child from the womb, despite the likelihood or certainty that expulsion will result in his or her death.
(Judith Jarvis Thomas in 1971)
Famously, Thomas compared the mothers gestating a child to allowing someone the use of one s
kidneys, and others have compared gestation to donating an organ. We are not required to allow
someone to use our kidneys, or donate organs to others, even when they would die without this

Is the conflict in Syria a civil war, an insurgency or a proxy conflict?
The Syrian Uprising is an ongoing armed conflict in Syria between forces loyal to the Ba ath
government and those seeking to oust its regime. The conflict has many complex entities with factions
present that are seeking their own foothold in the country s struggle over power. However, this was
not always the case and an examination will take place into weather the conflict can be defined as
either a civil war, an insurgency or a proxy conflict. The definition of the type of conflict is relevant as
it is critical to whether or not intervention is necessary and how states may go about it, for instance,
the laws of war are different from the laws of armed protests. ... Show more content on

In April 2011, the Syrian Army was deployed to quell the uprising and soldiers murdered
demonstrators throughout Syria. The protests began to evolve into armed rebellions and members of
the Armed Forces defected and created the Free Syrian Army (FSA). Since the formation of the FSA,
the rebel group expanded throughout Syria. Factional groups also joined the conflict with the Army of

Judith Deapitating Holofernes Essay
Judith Decapitating Holofernes by Trophime Bigot is an oil on panel painting. There are numerous
different elements of art incorporated into this painting. There are no visible brush strokes as a result
of the painter s attention to detail. The three main figures and the drapes of the tent form a triangle.
Judith s face is the most illuminated and defined making her the central focus of the painting. The
other woman in profile in the painting is facing her adds to this effect. Judith s arms draw the viewers
focus down the gruesome beheading and horrified look of Holofernes. Since his face is partially
obscured by shadow, the painting s main focus is Judith. Bigot had extreme attention to detail. There is

The 3 d effect is created by the layering of the 3 figures and overlapping their different body parts.
This is also emphasized by the use of shadows. The illusion of space adds to the composition by
invoking the viewer s imagination and leading them to believe that the painting takes place
somewhere dark and secretive.
There were multiple principles of design incorporated into the piece. Such as the rule of thirds and
triangular composition.
In order to create a sense of variety in the painting, Bigot utilizes his astounding dexterity in his use of
value, depth, and focal points.
There is a clear visual path for the viewer to follow when observing Bigot s painting of Judith
Decapitating Holofernes. Bigot utilizes triangular composition in order to draw the viewers eye to
scan all the different elements of the painting. The eye is drawn to the candle not only because it is in
the center of the painting, but also because it is the most illuminated compared to the outer edges of
the painting that have a deep valued contrast. The viewer then focuses in Judith because she is the next
element with the most illumination. Her arms lead the viewer down to witness Holofernes gruesome

Essay on An Exploration of Vegetarianism

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the trend of vegetarianism and its steady increase in
popularity in the United States, the possible causes behind the existence of this trend, its effects on our
general society and the practicing population, and finally, the future of vegetarianism. For the purpose
of this paper vegetarianism is described as a plant based diet (fruits, vegetables, etc), though the most
important factor being the total exclusion of meat, not including fish for most practitioners. While

In 1992, as the medical evidence supporting this lifestyle skyrocketed, the American Dietetic
Association officially endorsed vegetarianism, thus solidifying a prominent argument for the
credibility of the vegetarian diet. From the 1990s to present day, the amount of practitioners has
markedly increased, and appears to be continually growing at a steady rate. According to a 2008 study
conducted by the Harris Interactive Service Bureau on behalf of Vegetarian Times magazine, roughly
3.2 percent of U.S. adults, or 7.3 million people, follow a vegetarian based diet. In addition, 22.8
million Americans maintain to follow a vegetarian inclined diet, while 11.9 million are definitely
interested in becoming a vegetarian in the future ( Vegetarianism ). While no concrete evidence of a
current rise yet exists, researchers speculate that, because of new environmental and health concerns,
more people are, and will be, turning to vegetarianism to assist these issues (Rohrer).

Environmental vegetarianism centers on the ever increasing alarm that mass production of meat and

The African-American Odyssey Essay
The African American Odyssey
The Promise of Reconstruction, 1865 1868
The emancipation of the African slave who was now disconnected from their traditions and way of life
after nearly 300 years, is seemingly a great gush from the dam to the ebbs and flows of the struggle.
The end of slavery as we know it, presented a ball of mixed emotions among the nation; North and
SOUTH. Some slaves were grossly ecstatic to be free. For example, when a slave girl named Caddy,
from Goodman, Mississippi found she was free, went to her mistress, flipped up her dress and told her

Sharecropping became a sort of ebb in the river of the African American progression as far as freedom
was concerned. Presented as labor contracts by white land owners, the institution of slavery was
extended under a cloud of debt. In which, the black family, oft times became debtors due to the lack of
honesty on the account of their white lender. Aside from family, among African Americans, the black
church became the most important institution. Not only did it fill deep spiritual and inspirational
needs, it offered enriching music, provided charity and compassion to those in need, developed
community and political leaders, and was free of white supervision. With the end of slavery, blacks
who then had to attend services with white parishioners who treated them as second class Christians,
could now organize and attend their own churches. The advent of the black church definitely brought
about a flow in the river of struggle for African Americans. Education was another flow in the river of
struggle and a critical means of survival amongst people of color. It coincided alongside freedom. All
who were versed in education of all sorts were summoned to teach the freedmen and their children.
Teachers from all walks showed. Classes were held in churches, old slave markets, stables, taverns,
homes, and former slave cabins. Funding came from various religious and political organizations and

Analysis Of Theatre Of Cruelty
You are casually taking a stroll near a bridge on a bright sunny day and you happen to stop to take in
the gentle breeze and soak in the sun. To your right a middle aged man hops over the railing of the
bridge and is now standing on the edge. You faint and you never find out the faith of the man. Not
knowing what has happened to the man on the ledge, is how we re left feeling at the end of Death and
the Maiden, we re left guessing at what has happened to Roberto and the state of mind that Paulina is
left in. To figure out what Ariel Dorfman wants us to believe, it is important to look at Theatre of
Cruelty and the ghosts of our past. Examined more closely, Paulina seems to be imagining Roberto s
presence in the concert hall. Theatre of Cruelty is a theatre practice created by Antonin Artaud. The
purpose of this practice is to present real problems and have the audience reflect on how they would
act in these given situations. Theatre of Cruelty highlights the lives of those who were tormented as a
result of those in power. This leads to audience members walking out and reanalyzing their own lives
and actions (Cash). Considering Theatre of Cruelty, Roberto must be imagined because of the final
monologue by Paulina and the stage directions that follow. She poses several questions to Roberto, as
she reaches the climactic moment of shooting Roberto and asks, And why does it always have to be

CSA with dual diagnosis of PTSD associated with CSA. The YWCA of West Central Michigan offers
services and online programs for women and girls who are survivors of domestic violence, sexual
assault, and childhood sexual abuse. They also offer 24 hour confidential crisis lines for domestic
violence and sexual assault (YWCA, 2016). There are no programs in the
Grand Rapids area that offers services for men with histories of CSA, although Pine Rest does offer
some treatment for trauma and substance abuse, they do not offer both types of treatment at the same
time or in the same building. The YWCA does not provide services for substance abuse issues and
substance abuse treatment centers are not very well equipt to handle underlying issues such as PTSD
and trauma associated with CSA, although research demonstrates a connection between CSA and
substance abuse. I have listed all trauma based counseling centers and residential SA treatment
facilities in the Kent County in the introduction. This study is being conducted in order to educate
therapists and psychiatrists employed in substance abuse treatment in Kent County facilities on new
treatment modalities that can be incorporated into existing programs in order to help individuals with
both SA disorders as well as trauma associated with

The Hurricane Starring Denzel Washington As Rubin,...
In this paper, I am going to compare and contrast the movie The Hurricane starring Denzel
Washington as Rubin Hurricane Carter to the handout provided for Nelson Mandela. I will begin with
a critical review of the movie. The setting of the movie rotates from past to present, as the movie
begin you will notice him in the ring with the middle weight champion and eventually defeat him in
the first round with a knock out. Than the movie switch to him protesting in a jail cell, 193 at Trenton
State Prison, stating how he was wrongly accused for three murders and that anybody who was trying
to come get him will feel the wrath of the Hurricane. The movie than revert back to the night where
Rubin Carter and a young fella was wrongly accused of three murders in a well known bar and grill,
while leaving a night club. The reason they was pulled over was because the cops said they was
looking for two black men in a white car. Mr. Carter than asked any two black men would count? The
movie fast forward to seven years later, approximately around 1980, where a young struggling African
American high schooler purchase his book from a book sale and is intrigued with the book because he
can relate to the mishaps of Mr. Carter. The young man, Les Martin, was in housed by three Canadians
who vowed to help him succeed in life and go to college. In the beginning of the book, Mr. Rubin
Carter discusses his childhood and how it all started. Carter and a group of friends was playing when a

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Congestion Charging System
Congestion in cities, especially large cities, become major problem of society. People need to travel on
their job, shops, school, to do other activities important for normal functioning and recreational
activities. There are therefore, among the others, congestion charging systems. Congestion charging is
a system developed on principle that consumers should pay directly for costs they impose, in this case
congestion, in order to use resources efficiently. This system represent daily charge for driving vehicle
in the center of the city, to provide better quality of the canter and to incurage people to use public
transport. With development of car industry and building new roads between the cities, long distance
traveling was available to people. Increasing the level of motorization ... Show more content on

Quetzalcoatl s Influence On The Aztecs
We all have our own ideas, religion and a way to see the world and its creation. There are many
different civilizations around the world. and each of these have their out myths and legends about how
was the world created. According to Cartwright, the Aztecs also known as the Mexicans were one of
the most powerful empires which were located in Mexico City before called Tenochtitlan, but covered
most of northern Mesoamerica during 1345 and 1521(Cartwright, Aztec). Kay and Gonzales also
mention that the Aztecs settle their empire on Tenochtitlan because their god Huitzilopochtli sent an
eagle sitting on a cactus to indicate where they should build their new home, which end being in the
center of Mexico and they ended calling it Tenochtitlan. In addition to this, they also mention that

Quetzalcoatl sacrifices himself and became the second sun, also known as 4 wind sun. Quetzalcoatl
was also known as the Plumed Serpent , he was a god for different cultures as the Maya, Toltecs, and
the Aztecs, he was a god related to the wind god; therefore, he was known as the 4 wind sun (Maestri,
Quetzalcoatl). Kay and Gonzales stated that Quetzalcoatl was one important god for all cultures,
because of his two personalities; he was extremely active god while creating and destroying the
universe, that made him have a creative side, and his second personality was his way of governing, he
was as a cultural hero (Read and Gonzales 223). Now with the second sun, humans were able to only
eat piñon nuts. But after some time, the world suffers of many catastrophic disasters as hurricanes,
earthquakes, and other natural disasters, ending this world in chaos. The only survivors in this world
were transformed into monkeys, and as the first case, this world only survives for 665 years (Maestri,

Daisy Buchanan In The Great Gatsby
In the blistering winds of Antarctica, there lays a creature that relies on true love to survive. The
penguin, is a flightless bird that has aquatic capabilities and is unbothered by the frigid temperature of
its habitat. Interestingly the penguin is one of the few animals that are monogamous; In fact, they can
die from a broken heart after their chosen mate dies. These animalistic characteristics seem to be
portrayed throughout Gatsby s character, he acts in manner as if Daisy were to not love him, he would
die. In the book The Great Gatsby By F.Scott Fitzgerald, the main character Jay Gatsby becomes
obsessed with the character Daisy Buchanan and her love. He changes his entire persona to make a
man that would fit best with her. Although Gatsby ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

wants to be just like the rich people. He begins works for a rich man on his yacht, changes his name
and takes a new identity, but later on he changes his mind. He realizes that this upper class world was
not meant for him, that this world was cruel. In the end he would see just how much he does not
belong in this world when he is shot in the back, ironically when he is enjoying the riches of his stolen
wealth. One out of the ordinary thing he does is host parties, but never enjoys them. It may seem to the
reader as though he hosts them just so he can fit in with the crowed, but in his point of view he hosts
them for a completely different reason. In reality he hosts these extravagant parties in hopes that
maybe one day Daisy, his one true love, would come. Just like how he had bought the house right
across from her so he could stay away but not too far. He wants so badly to be apart of the upper class,
but the only reason he wants it is because he thinks it will come with Daisies love. Jordan Baker, the
pro golfer says Gatsby bought that house so that Daisy would be just across the bay (Fitzgerald 95)

What Is The Spiritual Path Essay
I have walked the spiritual path for 30 years, and I have been studying various spiritual teachings. I
have also been involved with several organizations and spiritual teachers. I have friends who have
been involved with more teachers, and I ve watched hundreds of people have been struggling with a
spiritual path. Based on my experience and observation, I have come to one conclusion is clear. The
difference between those who succeed on the spiritual path and those who continue to struggle with
the frustration is how they view the concept of teachers.
Push button mentality If you take a step back and see the big picture, the essence of the spiritual path
(or life, really) is to come out of ignorance and into understanding, out of the darkness and into terang
in mind, that is. There is an old adage that states, if people knew better, they would do better. I believe
that any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Why do people feel frustrated As well programmed our customers, we choose products that look
attractive to us and eagerly began to consume it. But after a while usually a short time we started to
feel like someone who has flipped the switch, but the light has not come. So we keep on flipping the
switch on and off, and while we could hear the click, the light will not come. This is usually when we
start to feel frustrated, and we may even take it out on the teacher or teaching that does not seem to
work.
I personally have felt this frustration and I have seen in many others. It is quite understandable,
especially when one considers that so many teachers or organizations who make promises they can not
deliver. They have also been caught up in a consumer s approach to spiritual growth, and they have
either consciously or intentionally decided to tell people what they want to hear. So what do we do?
Well, some people give up there and never tried again. Yet most of us do not give up

Analysis Of The Short Story Through The Tunnel
Yet, walking down the path with her, he blurted out, I d like to go and have a look at those rocks down
there, (Lessing 1). During the short story, Through the Tunnel, Lessing shows that Jerry has an interest
in breaking away from his mother early on in the story. He shows a passion for wanting to go to the
wild bay, instead of staying with his mother at the safe beach for their vacation. Jerry s transformation
from boy to a young man is revealed in the settings of the safe beach, wild bay, and the journey
through the tunnel. Since a young age, Jerry has always gone to the safe beach with his mother. As
told in the story, he is starting to get more mature and is experiencing his coming of age. The safe
beach represents him as not being as independent as when he travels to the wild bay alone. Next
morning, when it was time for the routine of swimming and sunbathing, his mother said, Are you tired
of the usual beach, Jerry? Would you like to go somewhere else (Lessing 1). Jerry s mother is willing
to allow Jerry to break away, but he is still quite nervous. The safe beach represents Jerry as a young
boy, a time in which he wants to separate from his mother, yet is apprehensive. It seemed to him that a
long time has passed, and he swam to where he could see his mother.... There she was, a speck of
yellow under an umbrella that looked like a slice of orange peel (Lessing 2). Jerry was nervous about

Analysis Of The Book The Looking At Irene
Louise Erdrich s Shadow Tag is about a dysfunctional marriage. However, it features characters that
were both hurt and helped by the recording and, to some degree the commodification of American
Indian history. American Indian history both helps and hurts the characters in Shadow Tag. There are
some factors that make the difference between helping and hurting each character. In addition, some
characters benefit more from their past compared to others. In contrast, some characters hurt more
from their pass send some of their counterparts. Irene, Gil and Riel are the three main characters that
are mainly affected by American and Indian history. Nevertheless, each and every character is
impacted by his or her past and heritage in some way or other. In the looking at Irene, one of the most
important characters in the book, we can see how American Indian history has impacted her life
experience. She grew up reading primarily critically acclaimed classic novels. From these works, she
discovered a certain way of looking at the world. In addition, the book says she read sparked her
fascination with history. This led her to pursue a degree in history. However, she was never able to
finish her degree. Her main job is being a stay at home mom, which is when she is not posing for one
of Gil s paintings. Due to the stress that comes along with working with the family member, Irene
spends the majority of her waking day with an elegant wine glass in her hand. Some would consider

How Do Tattoos Affect The Health Care Industry
There has been a recent issue with people smoking and having tattoos in the Health Care industry.
76% of employees believe tattoos hurt your chances of getting a job interview. Many people oppose
both smoking and tattoos. People are saying if you have tattoos or if you smoke, you should not even
apply. I disagree with this. A job should not be denied to someone just because of the ink present on
their skin or what they put inside of their body. Over the past couple of decades, tattoos have become
very popular. The popularity of tattoos has grown 13% since 2007 and it continues to rise. The
percentage of tattooed adults in the United States is 42%. With the rise and popularity of tattoos,
health care professionals should be a lot more lenient

Utilitarianism Can Not Be Defended Against The Injustice...
In this essay, I will argue that utilitarianism cannot be defended against the injustice objection.
Utilitarians may be able to reply to the injustice objection in some cases by invoking one of two
replies, the Long term consequences reply, in which utilitarians will avoid unjust actions that increase
short term utility because in the long term they will not lead to the greatest good. The other reply that
may help utilitarianism avoid injustice in some cases is the Secondary principles reply, where some
rule based principles such as not murdering (because it generally decreases happiness) may avoid
injustice.. However, I will focus on the bite the bullet objection, which states that when we do not
know what the long term consequences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of this is in the case of R v Dudley and Stephens (1884), where Dudley, Stephens, and
Brookes ate the cabin boy Parker, after they were shipwrecked for 24 days at sea. Although this act
maximised utility for the most people, Parker s rights were infringed upon as he did not agree to being
killed and eaten. Therefore when we add up the pain and pleasures of all those affected we may end up
infringing someone s rights. The act that maximises utility may cause unhappiness and misery for the
minority.
There are three standard replies to the injustice objection. The first being the Long term consequences
objection, where a person following utilitarianism is not obligated to commit an injustice, and that
person should take into account the long term consequences of their actions. An example I would like
to refer to is the harvesting organs example. Where there are five sick people in hospital and they all
need organ transplants, at the same time a sixth patient is undergoing a routine checkup. A transplant
surgeon finds that the only way of saving the five would be to kill the sixth person and harvest their
organs. Utilitarianism would state that we should harvest the organs of person 6 without his
permission to save the lives of the five other people who are dying. A utilitarian would explain that the
action of harvesting the organs of

Examples Of Stereotypes In The Return Of Jahar
Although the use of animation inherently calls for more caricatured characters, Disney s Aladdin and
The Return of Jafar are full of harmful middle eastern Arab stereotypes. Almost all the characters,
save for Aladdin and Jasmine, who are the most white out of almost all of the other Arabs (they have
middle class American accents, are of a lighter skin tone) are painted as the Violent Arab, for example;
the shopkeeper attempts to slice Iago for attempting to steal some grapes. The villains are painted as
stereotypically faceless/ uniform Arabs that blunder around stupidly and are ridiculously superstitious
(in The Return of Jafar they immediately assume that a box is mystically floating, rather than being
lifted from below). On top of all that, there is the obvious stereotyping present in the opening song of
Aladdin, Oh, I come from a land, from a faraway place/ Where the caravan camels roam/ Where it s
flat and immense/ And the heat is intense/ It s barbaric, but hey, it s home . The description of the
Middle East being totally barbaric and almost mystical ( a faraway place ) is harmful, especially
through song, as children will repeat the lyrics without a second thought, reinforcing the stereotypes
they hear and see. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Children are more likely to see an animated film rather than a feature film or documentary, so
animated films, especially if they are produced by Disney, will include more stereotypes in an attempt
to keep the children entertained. However, these are obviously harmful stereotypes, and in the case of
Aladdin and The Return of Jafar they only serve to reinforce xenophobia and possibly islamophobia,
as they depict the Arab characters in the harmful ways previously

How Russian Culture Has Changed My Life
Russian culture has always had a big impact on my life as a mixed, Russian/Black individual. And as

semi Russian experience there are four foods that seem to best capture the ideal Russian dishes.

one of my mom s favorite dishes. So whenever it shows up at these Russian parties I keep my mouth
shut, in hopes not to say anything that would insult her tastes, nor allow the chicken gelatin to find its
way in.
Another Russian dish that not a particular favorite of mine would be cow tongue. It s a very unusually
dish to eat outside of the Russian community and if we re going to be honest its rather unusual to me
as well. It seems more like something a middle school age boy would attempt to make his friends do
on a dare rather than an actually palatable food. From first glance even before it enters your mouth
something just seems off. It s such a drained, depressed, eeyore ish gray. And unlike how it is in

The Pros And Cons Of Non-Traditional Families
During the 1990 s, a total of 71.5 million children under the age of 18 lived within the U.S. Of these

than four percent of children lived with another relative. As of 2013, about 46% of children live in a
traditional two parent family. The remaining 54% are divided into three categories: 15% live with two
parents remarried, 34% live with a single parent, and five percent live without a parent. Studies show

Using the 2003 National Survey of Children s health, researchers were able to deduce the health
differences between different types of families. In terms of physical health, most families produce
children with excellent physical health. There is only a small margin of change between different
types of families. However, mental health and special needs are drastically higher among non
traditional families than traditional families. Problems with emotional and behavioral control rise from
five percent in traditional families to fourteen percent in blended step families. Children from these
families also experience poorer dental health. Bad health not only affects the way a child feels and
operates, but it can also affect them later on in life. Many companies that would employ a high school
dropout do not offer health insurance. Since a percentage of people from non traditional families
experience bad health, they are more likely to get turned down when they apply for life insurance. A
lack of health insurance can prevent people from getting specific medications they may need to treat
some of their health problems. Non traditional families are ultimately responsible for poor health in

Ice skating can be a difficult sport to learn because there are many steps to learn before you can even
think about going into a competition. To be able to start you will need a pair of professional ice skates,
ice skating nylons, a ice skating dress or clothes suited to practice in like loose sweatpants and a long
sleeves. First, you need to learn the basics of ice skating. You need to be able to balance on the ice
without holding onto the wall, falling, and wobbling side to side. In order to move on to the next step
you have to skate smoothly with ease so you will look professional to the judges. At the beginning you

You two will keep doing that until you are able to do it on your own without the help of your

perfectly with your routine in the making. It may sound hard to pick the perfect song for a routine that
is not even made up yet, but for the first part all you have to do is find a song that you will be able to
skate and dance to. The most important rule you should remember while you are picking you song is
that the song has to be absolutely clean or else the judges will either deduct points from your score or
you will be disqualified it will most likely be the latter. Once you picked out a song give it to your
instructor to listen to and see if they approve of your choice of music. The second part is that your
instructor will either be able to make up a routine to go along with the music you had chosen or they
will tell you to choose a different song. Another option is that they can choose a song for you to skate
to. The reason why the last two options are there is because your instructor may not like the music you
had chosen since before they even listen to the music you chosen they are already figuring out what
will be put in your routine and how it will be put together. Next, you will begin practicing your routine
in parts before you

Analytical Essay on Dulce et Decorum Est
By ZA 2010 and 15 years of Age
British war poet, Wilfred Owen, incorporates many techniques of poetry writing in his works. As a
soldier, Owen often wrote poems which described the misery and hardships on the fronts of World
War One. To illustrate the image and scenes of the conflict, Owen uses an array of techniques which
can be noticed in his poem Dulce et Decorum Est
In the poem, Dulce et Decorum Est , Owen recollects the event of a gas attack on returning soldiers.
Owen writes the poem in his own voice and from his own experiences of war. He addresses the
misery, plight and hardships of war to his primary audiences in Britain. Owens main objective of

flares and trudge / sludge slow the poem and add heaviness. Rhythm increases at the beginning of the
gas attack (second stanza), as the soldiers scatter into panic. The tone then slows again as Owen
depicts the death of the soldier and delves into a reflective mood, as the wagon slowly departs with the
dead soldier. Owens uses words ending in ing to create a sense of heaviness and slowness in the pace
of the poem.
To illustrate the scene of the gas attack, Owen uses many poetic techniques.
Owen uses horrid and unpleasant forms of imagery to make the reader realise the reality of war.
Instantly from the opening lines, Owen makes an impact on the reader s impressions about war. Bent
double, like old beggars under sacks, Knock Kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge .
Such phrases convey hardship, pitiful conditions and anguish of war. They are supported by detailed
visual descriptions such as, limped on, blood shod , floundering like a man on fire or lime , guttering,
choking, drowning , white yes writhing and come gargling from the froth corrupted lungs . These
images are striking and appealing to the reader. They illustrate an intolerable and unpleasant scene,
additionally exposing the lies of propaganda poster images.
Techniques such as similes also add to develop an ugly image. Such as, Bent double like old beggars

Kant And John Stuart Mill
Mena Boyah
Philosophy Final
1.The ship s cook has asked us whether or not it is morally ok to kill and cook up some of the local
life to sustain ourselves while we shelter on this planet. I would like to pull up the philosophers from
our holographic archive that would argue that it is morally ok to do so. The three philosophers that
will aid me in my decision are Jeremy Bentham, Kant, and John Stuart Mill.
First let us start with Jeremy Bentham his philosophies are centered around the pain and pleasure
theory. Bentham would argue as long as the total amount of pain for the organisms is out weighed by
the total number of pleasure units gained by our crew than it would be morally acceptable to pursue
some lifeforms as food. However on the other hand if the organism in questions pain outweighs our
total pleasure than the opposite would be true.
The next philosopher I would like to call to the stage is John Stuart Mill, Mill s philosophy is centered
around the Utility or the Greatest Happiness Principle. This principle argues that we as humans never
desire anything but pleasure. With that being said if we are to argue that we need to acquire food for
the pleasure of our existence than it make moral sense to be able to harvest some life on this planet to
keep our existence going. However on the other side of the argument we shouldn t kill more life than
we need to survive, if we were to do this than it would void our moral principles of pleasure and move
into the realm of

Fallacious Arguments In the Declaration of Independence...
Fallacious Arguments in the Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence is among the most profoundly interpreted and fiercely discussed
documents in modern history. Most likely because of its rhetorical style and numerous fallacious
arguments that are found. The colonists use of persuasion to influence by using repetition to achieve
their means. The Declaration of Independence is what 56 colonists saw as a logical course of action.
What you must ask yourself is: What was considered logical in 1776?
The rhetorical style uses persuasive ideals in the use of language. For example, in the first sentence of
the second paragraph, the parallel structure and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The primarily fallacious argument is that of general rule, assuming that something is true in general in
every possible case. for example, the first sentence in the second paragraph that evokes a partial truth
that all men are created equal. When in fact the writers mean that only white land owners were
considered equal
because they didn t consider black men to be humans much less women to equal as well. So saying
We hold these truths... is ironic because it is in fact not true in their minds that all men are created
equal.
The second fallacious argument, as the Ad Hominem. Which is that of attacking of the person instead
of the his argument. This is because the list of grievances in the second part of the document. The
redundancy of He has with only judgment from the colonist point of view because of course they are
not aware of the the Kings point of view because they are not the King. Therefore, the Ad Hominem is
the correct argument in this case due to the attack towards King, not his argument.
The affects of the the arguments have both negative and positive outcomes depending on how you
perceive them. There is the response of freedom to a free nation, and that is what we as Americans
celebrate every Forth of July, or there is the ironic way that all Americans are now seen as equal to any
other person. Either way you look at

Persuasive Research Paper On Textbooks In Schools
Publishing for the K 12 school market is an $8 billion industry, with three companies McGraw Hill,
Pearson, and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt capturing about 85% of this market. Tablets are a $72 billion
industry with 42% of US adults owning a tablet. As tablets have become more prevalent, a new debate
has formed over whether K 12 school districts should switch from print textbooks to digital textbooks
on tablets. Although it is true and inevitable that Tablets help students better prepare for a world
immersed in technology, there are numerous reasons installing tablets in K 12 schools is not very
practical. Tablets are expensive, too distracting for students, easy to break, and costly/time consuming
to fix. Tablets also contribute to eyestrain, headaches, and blurred vision, increase the excuses
available for students not doing their homework, require costly Wi Fi networks, and become quickly
outdated as new technologies are released.
Handheld technological devices including tablets are associated with a range of health problems.
Handhelds contribute to Computer Vision Syndrome, which causes eyestrain, headaches, blurred
vision, and dry eyes, according to the American Optometric Association. People who use mobile
devices more often have a higher incidence of musculoskeletal disorders associated with repetitive
strain on muscles, including carpal tunnel syndrome, neck pain ( text neck ), shoulder pain, and
fibromyalgia (Lin) (Fishman). In addition, manufacturing tablets is

Pollution Of Beachwater
Beach vacations are an annual summer event for many families. But beachgoers at polluted beaches
around the country may bring back an unwanted souvenir from their trip: ear infections, stomach flu,
skin rashes, and other illnesses that are caused by polluted beachwater.
To help keep our beaches clean, NRDC supports improved beachwater testing to detect the pathogens
that can cause health problems in swimmers.
Bills now pending in Congress would provide funding for much needed beach cleanup efforts and
help ensure that the public is notified promptly when beaches are unsafe for swimming. These bills
will help make sure that our beaches are safe for swimming every day.
Polluted Beaches Can Cause Health
Problems for Swimmers
Beach closings and advisories are at a record high in U.S. coastal waters because of beachwater
contamination from human and animal waste. When it rains, untreated sewage and contaminated
stormwater flow into beachwaters from overflowing sewers, stormwater pipes, and treatment plant
bypasses, carrying human waste, animal waste, trash, and other bacteria laden discharges into the
water where it can make swimmers sick.
The most common health impact of this contamination is severe stomach upset, but swimmers can
also get earaches, pinkeye, respiratory ailments, and even very serious illnesses like meningitis and
hepatitis. Often swimmers don t realize that their illness was contracted while swimming at a
contaminated beach.
Small children, the elderly, pregnant women, and cancer patients and others with weakened immune
systems are most at risk for illness caused by contaminated beachwater. According to the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, children under the age of nine had more reports of
diarrhea and vomiting from exposure to waterborne parasites than any other age group
Government Activity Can Help Keep
Our Shorelines Clean
In 2000, Congress passed the Shorelines
Natural Appraisal and Beach front Wellbeing
(Shoreline) Act, which gave government reserves to state and neighborhood organizations to set up
beachwater observing and open warning projects.
Since that time, each beach front state in the Unified
States, including the Incomparable Lakes and The Frozen North, has

Oodgeroo Noonuccal Essay
Oodgeroo Noonuccal an Australian aboriginal poet and fighter of Aboriginal rights
In my essay I will present an Australian poet from the 20th century who after having discovered her
aboriginal roots had even changed her name and became an activist for the Aboriginal rights.
Oodgeroo Noonuccal was born as Kathleen Jean Mary Ruska on 3 November 1920 on North
Stradbroke Island in South East Queensland. Kath was a descendant of the Noonuccal people of
Minjerribah. Her totem was Kabool the carpet snake, who could not be eaten by his people. She talks
about this in her poem Ballad of the Totems. The young Kath was strongly influenced by her parents.
Her mother, Lucy McCulloch was one of the stolen generation . At the mission school she was not
taught to read or write, of which she bitterly resented, because the nuns taught her to be useful to wash
clothes, cook, clean and iron in order to work as a domestic servant in a white household. She ... Show

Her first collection was published in 1964 as We are going. Her poetry had an easily understandable
style and had strong political protest elements in it already from the beginning. Her second poetry
collection, The Dawn is at Hand , was published by Jacaranda in 1966. A third collection, My People:
A Kath Walker Collection, contained poems from the first two collections, and in later editions added
new poems and essays.
During the 1960 s not only her reputation as a poet developed but she also became increasingly
engaged in the political sphere.
Although loyal to these organisations, Walker was not convinced they could provide answers to
Australia s deep seated racism towards Aborigines. Her quest for fundamental political solutions to
Indigenous disadvantage soon propelled her into the orbit of the Communist Party of Australia and the
Union of Australian Women, both of which she joined in these

John Steinbeck Unfinished Children Of God
The Unfinished Children of God within Of Mice and Men John Steinbeck, the author of Of Mice and
Men uses the theme, unfinished children of God . The novel takes place during the Great Depression,
forcing the characters to work hard to attain their dreams. Steinbeck presented the characters in a way
that made them more personal so readers could discover and comprehend the characters on their own.
George Milton, Lennie Small, and Candy are presented by Steinbeck in a certain way that leads people
to think about the characters and are the greatest examples of the quote, unfinished children of God ,
meaning that they are adults that have childish and sophomoric attributes. George is an unfinished
child of God whom Steinbeck ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Steinbeck purposely made Candy and his dog similar. Got no teeth, he said. He s all stiff with
rheumatism. He ain t no good to you, Candy. An he ain t no good to himself. Why n t you shoot him,
Candy? (Steinbeck 44). When Candy s dog became old and unserviceable, the dog was killed. Candy
fears that he will be canned because he is also old and somewhat useless. This may be a potential
foreshadowing of what could have happened. After losing his hand to a machine, he lost hope for all
of his dreams, yet he became essential in George and Lennie s dream. Candy s fear of being fired
motivates him to invest in George s plan. Candy is able and willing to cover the down payment.
Candy is excited for the first time in years. Candy went on excitedly, How much they want for a place
like that? (Steinbeck 59). But when Lennie killed Curley s wife, Candy s dream crumbled as he saw
her dead body. Now Candy spoke his biggest fear. You an me can get that little place, can t we,
George? You an me can go there an live nice, can t we, George? Can t we? (Steinbeck 94). Steinbeck
meant for the reader to understand that regardless of how hard you work, the American Dream does
not always work. There would always be forces pushing you

Ethical Behavior Is Important For The Welfare Of Society
Growing up we are taught by our parent about the law but ethics is something we pick up from our
environment and our peers. Ethical behavior is important for the welfare of society as a whole. What
we can and cannot do is inherently instilled in us from a very young age. In today s competitive
market, ethics is one of the most important aspects to business development. Business decisions are
implemented with a right and wrong mentality. To a business ethics is an instrument used to exam
principles and morals in a business environment because something for example polluting the
environment may be legal but is it moral for a company to do so? Therefore, business ethics helps to

The stakeholder approach is intended to provide a flexible way for managers to match these interests.
This approach helps management anticipate future elements and develop plans to combat any
problems that might occur. Stakeholders are also concerned with the survival of their company. So for
a company to be successful, stakeholders must implement a course of action that positively affects
themselves and their community.
Werther mentions that the stakeholder approach enables firms to respond to the dominant trends in
society today globalization, rapidly evolving communication technologies, and ever increasing
expectations of social goals beyond profit maximization (Werther, 2011, p.34.). Here he explains the
importance of generating profits but also explains the benefits that come from maximizing a company
s profits.
Another author calls attention to the importance of investing in the relationships with those who have
a stake in the firm. The stability of these relationships depends on the sharing of core principles and
values. This approach allows management to incorporate their personal values into the implementation
of strategic plans. Schendel describes this relationship by answering the question What do we stand
for? The stakeholder approach emphasizes the importance of developing a strategy but leaving the

Japanese Imperialism Dbq Essay
Chloe Chan AP World II Period 4 1/9/18 2010 DBQ During this time period, both India and Japan
faced a new situation: the new imperialism of Europe. India was unable to defend themselves, thus
leading to them becoming a colony of Britain. Japan however, selectively borrowed from the
Europeans after proving themselves to be equals of the once superior Europeans. Despite having such
contrasting fates, both India and Japan had similarities in the miserable work conditions for peasants.
But because India was a colony while Japan was a country, India data was recorded by British officials
and Japanese data was record by Japanese officials. Another difference was the source of labor for
textile production. India had mostly men workers whereas Japan ... Show more content on

Since India was a colony of the British, India data was recorded by British officials while Japanese
was record by Japanese officials for it was a self governing country. Document 1 showed a data chart
about the production of cotton yarn and cloth in India. (doc 1) However, this data was not gathered by
Indian authorities but by the British. This is similar to document 9 which consists of the report on the
cotton mills in India, Calcutta. This report was by the British Royal Commission of Labor. In this
report, there is information about what was going on with the workers: where they came from, where
they lived and their wages. The workers were peasants who lived in small huts near the factory and
were paid low wages. (doc 9) Instead of an Indian official reporting the status of the mill, it was a
British worker. This is because India was a colony meaning it was under British authority. The British
held all the power and made all the important decisions. The Indians were only their slaves and only
existed to make money for Britain. This greatly contrasts with document 2 which is a data chart about
the production of cotton yarn in Japan put together by the Japanese Imperial Cabinet Bureau of
Statistics. (doc 2) This shows how the Japanese government controlled the economy. This is because
Japan was a self governing country. It was able to show the Europeans that they are a

The Iran Nuclear Deal, is a deal that will prevent Iran from developing an atomic bomb, by reducing and controlling the amount of plutonium and uranium available for them to use. One of the most important countries involved in this deal is the United States. The United States is currently debating whether they should agree to this nuclear deal. Agreeing to this deal will benefit the United States, by suspending some of Iran s specialized weapons, making Iran less of a threat. America has enough to contend with, and making a deal with Iran will put America in a much more secure position. Iran is notorious for their harsh acts of terrorism, and the devastation of their specialized weaponry, including ballistic missiles. It is outlined in the deal that Iran will suspend and delay the amount of time, special weaponry is available to them, limiting their harsh acts of terrorism throughout the Middle East. The United States has vital national interests in the Middle East, including their security of allies, ensuring the availability of region s energy supply, opposition to terrorism, and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. When students reflect upon their learning, they engage in a potentially transformative act of responding to, connecting with, and analyzing an experience, event, process, or product. Reflection is thus one way to bridge the separate thought and action: an opportunity for students to describe their internal processes, evaluate their challenges, and recognize their triumphs in ways that would otherwise remain unarticulated (Allan Driscoll 2014). Being a reflective learner would therefore help me be more proactive in applying my existing knowledge to create new ideas and improve my understanding of course material. Reflective learning would also have a positive impact on my future career since I would be able to develop my learning and thinking abilities by building on the critical evaluation of my past learning experiences and applying them to my work. I believe this would make me self aware and give me the ability to identify and address my strengths and weaknesses. I therefore agree with the argument by (Moon, 2002) that reflection improves the depth and relevance of individual learning (Moon, 2000 cited by Trehan, 2008). If I had no knowledge of effective learning skills, I would have been stressed out whenever I come across an academic, social or professional challenge which would have had a negative impact on my performance in the long run. The Compromise Of Food In Louisiana People in Houston were told to evacuate their homes and to leave everything behind, due to the hurricane, but they couldn t leave everything so they compromised and only brought with them the things that were an absolute necessity. Not a lot of people are able to compromise so easily. For some people this is a hard subject to grasp. Food is a major thing to in society today that not many people can agree on. Food is such a huge part of our everyday lives, but when two people are asked what they want to eat it seems that no one can come to an agreement. Food, however, is, something beautiful to be shared with people (M.F.K. Fisher), not something to cause problems and arguments when a decision about the food can t be made. More often than not it s really hard to compromise, but when it s for the greater good and taking in account people other than yourself, there s a certain satisfaction earned. In order to be considered a well rounded person in society, it is inevitable that one has the ability to compromise. I had to experience compromise first hand in the humid, swampy, hot, seafood loving, Louisiana. Four regions of south Louisiana were settled by the Cajuns. (Ducote). So it s probably pretty safe to say that Louisiana houses some pretty good, traditional Cajun food. • 10. The Second And Current Republic Introduction From French revolution in 1789, France has had five different republican systems. The fifth and current republic was an outcome to the Algerian crisis in 1950 s. The First Republic began with the fall of King Louis XVI in 1792 and ended with Napoleon Bonaparte declaring himself emperor of the First French Empire in 1804. After Napoleon s empire had ended, a period of monarchies followed, until the 1848 Revolution saw the birth of the Second Republic, paradoxically enough with the election of Napoleon s own nephew, Napoleon III, as its first president. The Second Empire collapsed in 1870 with the catastrophic war against the Prussians, which the French soundly lost. That same year, the Third Republic was created. Although the Third Republic had a long life, it was on the other hand quite unstable. In the period from 1929 to 1939, there were 18 different governments. The Third Republic ended in 1940 with the German occupation of France. The Fourth Republic was established after the war and officially put in place in 1946 and successfully led France to an economic recovery after Second World War. This essay discusses about the constitution of French fourth republic on 13 October 1946 with the Liberté, égalité, fraternité motto, head by Charles de Gaulle. The phylogeny started off with Proconsul heseloni as the common ancestor to Sivapithecus indicus, Australopithecus afarensis, and Australopithecus Africanus. The reasoning for this was from the approximated age of Proconsul heseloni of 23 million years ago. This places Sivapithecus indicus roughly 15 million years after, suggesting that Sivapithecus indicus directly evolved from Proconsul heseloni. From Proconsul heseloni, it was decided that three species evolved from it. These species included A. A. afarensis, A. africanus and Sivapithecus indicus. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This difference can be used to infer that they lived in different areas of the world as it can be assumed that the diets of the two were unalike, explaining the dissimilarity of the canine size. As it is inferred that the two species lived in different regions of the world, it can be assumed that they co existed at the same time period. Homo habilis followed A. africanus indicating that A. africanus was a direct ancestor of H. habilis. The reasoning for this included the brain weight and body weight of the H. habilis slightly increased from that of A. africanus. As there was a general increase the overall brain to body weight ratio, indicating that there was an increase in the overall body weight of the two. Homo erectus was branched off after H. habilis as the justification for this was from the muzzle angles of the different species. As H. erectus had a muzzle angle of 107° it was decided that it was reasonable to assume that H. erectus evolved from H. habilis. However, in the overall positioning of the phylogeny, it was placed on a side branch off H. habilis. This reasoning for this was that if H. erectus was placed on the main evolutionary line to evolve from H. ergaster, the muzzle angles from H. ergaster, H. erectus, and Homo neaderthalensis would increase then decrease. It would not be logical to place H. erectus on the main evolutionary line. Further justification that H. erectus was not a direct ancestor ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Argument in Defense of Abortion Philosophers have attempted to justify abortion by denying that all abortions are intentional killing. They have granted that an unborn human being has a right to live, but have then argued that this right does not entail that the child in the womb is morally entitled to the use of the mother s body for life support. In effect, their argument is that at least in many cases, abortion is not a case of intentionally killing the child, but a choice not to provide the child with assistance, that is a choice to expel the child from the womb, despite the likelihood or certainty that expulsion will result in his or her death. Kay and Gonzales stated that Quetzalcoatl was one important god for all cultures, because of his two personalities; he was extremely active god while creating and destroying the universe, that made him have a creative side, and his second personality was his way of governing, he was as a cultural hero (Read and Gonzales 223). Now with the second sun, humans were able to only eat piñon nuts. But after some time, the world suffers of many catastrophic disasters as hurricanes, earthquakes, and other natural disasters, ending this world in chaos. The only survivors in this world were transformed into monkeys, and as the first case, this world only survives for 665 years (Maestri, Aztec). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. Daisy Buchanan In The Great Gatsby In the blistering winds of Antarctica, there lays a creature that relies on true love to survive. The penguin, is a flightless bird that has aquatic capabilities and is unbothered by the frigid temperature of its habitat. Interestingly the penguin is one of the few animals that are monogamous; In fact, they can die from a broken heart after their chosen mate dies. These animalistic characteristics seem to be portrayed throughout Gatsby s character, he acts in manner as if Daisy were to not love him, he would die. He begins works for a rich man on his yacht, changes his name and takes a new identity, but later on he changes his mind. He realizes that this upper class world was not meant for him, that this world was cruel. In the end he would see just how much he does not belong in this world when he is shot in the back, ironically when he is enjoying the riches of his stolen wealth. One out of the ordinary thing he does is host parties, but never enjoys them. It may seem to the reader as though he hosts them just so he can fit in with the crowed, but in his point of view he hosts them for a completely different reason. In reality he hosts these extravagant parties in hopes that maybe one day Daisy, his one true love, would come. Just like how he had bought the house right across from her so he could stay away but not too far. He wants so badly to be apart of the upper class, but the only reason he wants it is because he thinks it will come with Daisies love. • 24. What Is The Spiritual Path Essay I have walked the spiritual path for 30 years, and I have been studying various spiritual teachings. I have also been involved with several organizations and spiritual teachers. I have friends who have been involved with more teachers, and I ve watched hundreds of people have been struggling with a spiritual path. Based on my experience and observation, I have come to one conclusion is clear. The difference between those who succeed on the spiritual path and those who continue to struggle with the frustration is how they view the concept of teachers. Push button mentality If you take a step back and see the big picture, the essence of the spiritual path (or life, really) is to come out of ignorance and into understanding, out of the darkness and into terang in mind, that is. Why do people feel frustrated As well programmed our customers, we choose products that look attractive to us and eagerly began to consume it. But after a while usually a short time we started to feel like someone who has flipped the switch, but the light has not come. So we keep on flipping the switch on and off, and while we could hear the click, the light will not come. This is usually when we start to feel frustrated, and we may even take it out on the teacher or teaching that does not seem to work. I personally have felt this frustration and I have seen in many others. It is quite understandable, especially when one considers that so many teachers or organizations who make promises they can not deliver. They have also been caught up in a consumer s approach to spiritual growth, and they have either consciously or intentionally decided to tell people what they want to hear. So what do we do? During the short story, Through the Tunnel, Lessing shows that Jerry has an interest in breaking away from his mother early on in the story. He shows a passion for wanting to go to the wild bay, instead of staying with his mother at the safe beach for their vacation. Jerry s transformation from boy to a young man is revealed in the settings of the safe beach, wild bay, and the journey through the tunnel. Since a young age, Jerry has always gone to the safe beach with his mother. As told in the story, he is starting to get more mature and is experiencing his coming of age. The safe beach represents him as not being as independent as when he travels to the wild bay alone. Next morning, when it was time for the routine of swimming and sunbathing, his mother said, Are you tired of the usual beach, Jerry? Would you like to go somewhere else (Lessing 1). Jerry s mother is willing to allow Jerry to break away, but he is still quite nervous. The safe beach represents Jerry as a young boy, a time in which he wants to separate from his mother, yet is apprehensive. It seemed to him that a long time has passed, and he swam to where he could see his mother.... There she was, a speck of yellow under an umbrella that looked like a slice of orange peel (Lessing 2). • 30. Utilitarianism Can Not Be Defended Against The Injustice... In this essay, I will argue that utilitarianism cannot be defended against the injustice objection. Utilitarians may be able to reply to the injustice objection in some cases by invoking one of two replies, the Long term consequences reply, in which utilitarians will avoid unjust actions that increase short term utility because in the long term they will not lead to the greatest good. The other reply that may help utilitarianism avoid injustice in some cases is the Secondary principles reply, where some rule based principles such as not murdering (because it generally decreases happiness) may avoid injustice.. However, I will focus on the bite the bullet objection, which states that when we do not know what the long term consequences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of this is in the case of R v Dudley and Stephens (1884), where Dudley, Stephens, and Brookes ate the cabin boy Parker, after they were shipwrecked for 24 days at sea. Although this act maximised utility for the most people, Parker s rights were infringed upon as he did not agree to being killed and eaten. Therefore when we add up the pain and pleasures of all those affected we may end up infringing someone s rights. The act that maximises utility may cause unhappiness and misery for the minority. There are three standard replies to the injustice objection. The first being the Long term consequences objection, where a person following utilitarianism is not obligated to commit an injustice, and that person should take into account the long term consequences of their actions. An example I would like to refer to is the harvesting organs example. Where there are five sick people in hospital and they all need organ transplants, at the same time a sixth patient is undergoing a routine checkup. A transplant surgeon finds that the only way of saving the five would be to kill the sixth person and harvest their organs. Utilitarianism would state that we should harvest the organs of person 6 without his permission to save the lives of the five other people who are dying. A utilitarian would explain that the action of harvesting the organs of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Examples Of Stereotypes In The Return Of Jahar Although the use of animation inherently calls for more caricatured characters, Disney s Aladdin and The Return of Jafar are full of harmful middle eastern Arab stereotypes. Almost all the characters, save for Aladdin and Jasmine, who are the most white out of almost all of the other Arabs (they have middle class American accents, are of a lighter skin tone) are painted as the Violent Arab, for example; the shopkeeper attempts to slice Iago for attempting to steal some grapes. The villains are painted as stereotypically faceless/ uniform Arabs that blunder around stupidly and are ridiculously superstitious (in The Return of Jafar they immediately assume that a box is mystically floating, rather than being lifted from below). On top of all that, there is the obvious stereotyping present in the opening song of Aladdin, Oh, I come from a land, from a faraway place/ Where the caravan camels roam/ Where it s flat and immense/ And the heat is intense/ It s barbaric, but hey, it s home . Kant And John Stuart Mill Mena Boyah Philosophy Final 1.The ship s cook has asked us whether or not it is morally ok to kill and cook up some of the local life to sustain ourselves while we shelter on this planet. I would like to pull up the philosophers from our holographic archive that would argue that it is morally ok to do so. The three philosophers that will aid me in my decision are Jeremy Bentham, Kant, and John Stuart Mill. First let us start with Jeremy Bentham his philosophies are centered around the pain and pleasure theory. Bentham would argue as long as the total amount of pain for the organisms is out weighed by the total number of pleasure units gained by our crew than it would be morally acceptable to pursue some lifeforms as food. However on the other hand if the organism in questions pain outweighs our total pleasure than the opposite would be true. The next philosopher I would like to call to the stage is John Stuart Mill, Mill s philosophy is centered around the Utility or the Greatest Happiness Principle. This principle argues that we as humans never desire anything but pleasure. With that being said if we are to argue that we need to acquire food for the pleasure of our existence than it make moral sense to be able to harvest some life on this planet to keep our existence going. However on the other side of the argument we shouldn t kill more life than we need to survive, if we were to do this than it would void our moral principles of pleasure and move into the realm of ... When it rains, untreated sewage and contaminated stormwater flow into beachwaters from overflowing sewers, stormwater pipes, and treatment plant bypasses, carrying human waste, animal waste, trash, and other bacteria laden discharges into the water where it can make swimmers sick. The most common health impact of this contamination is severe stomach upset, but swimmers can also get earaches, pinkeye, respiratory ailments, and even very serious illnesses like meningitis and hepatitis. Often swimmers don t realize that their illness was contracted while swimming at a contaminated beach. Small children, the elderly, pregnant women, and cancer patients and others with weakened immune systems are most at risk for illness caused by contaminated beachwater. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, children under the age of nine had more reports of diarrhea and vomiting from exposure to waterborne parasites than any other age group Government Activity Can Help Keep Our Shorelines Clean In 2000, Congress passed the Shorelines Natural Appraisal and Beach front Wellbeing (Shoreline) Act, which gave government reserves to state and neighborhood organizations to set up beachwater observing and open warning projects. • 44. Oodgeroo Noonuccal Essay Oodgeroo Noonuccal an Australian aboriginal poet and fighter of Aboriginal rights In my essay I will present an Australian poet from the 20th century who after having discovered her aboriginal roots had even changed her name and became an activist for the Aboriginal rights. Oodgeroo Noonuccal was born as Kathleen Jean Mary Ruska on 3 November 1920 on North Stradbroke Island in South East Queensland. Kath was a descendant of the Noonuccal people of Minjerribah. Her totem was Kabool the carpet snake, who could not be eaten by his people. She talks about this in her poem Ballad of the Totems. The young Kath was strongly influenced by her parents. Her mother, Lucy McCulloch was one of the stolen generation . At the mission school she was not taught to read or write, of which she bitterly resented, because the nuns taught her to be useful to wash clothes, cook, clean and iron in order to work as a domestic servant in a white household. She ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her first collection was published in 1964 as We are going. Her poetry had an easily understandable style and had strong political protest elements in it already from the beginning. Her second poetry collection, The Dawn is at Hand , was published by Jacaranda in 1966. A third collection, My People: A Kath Walker Collection, contained poems from the first two collections, and in later editions added new poems and essays. During the 1960 s not only her reputation as a poet developed but she also became increasingly engaged in the political sphere. Although loyal to these organisations, Walker was not convinced they could provide answers to Australia s deep seated racism towards Aborigines. Her quest for fundamental political solutions to Indigenous disadvantage soon propelled her into the orbit of the Communist Party of Australia and the Union of Australian Women, both of which she joined in these ... • 45. John Steinbeck Unfinished Children Of God The Unfinished Children of God within Of Mice and Men John Steinbeck, the author of Of Mice and Men uses the theme, unfinished children of God . The novel takes place during the Great Depression, forcing the characters to work hard to attain their dreams. Steinbeck presented the characters in a way that made them more personal so readers could discover and comprehend the characters on their own. George Milton, Lennie Small, and Candy are presented by Steinbeck in a certain way that leads people to think about the characters and are the greatest examples of the quote, unfinished children of God , meaning that they are adults that have childish and sophomoric attributes. George is an unfinished child of God whom Steinbeck ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Steinbeck purposely made Candy and his dog similar. Got no teeth, he said. He s all stiff with rheumatism. He ain t no good to you, Candy. An he ain t no good to himself. Why n t you shoot him, Candy? (Steinbeck 44). When Candy s dog became old and unserviceable, the dog was killed. Candy fears that he will be canned because he is also old and somewhat useless. This may be a potential foreshadowing of what could have happened. After losing his hand to a machine, he lost hope for all of his dreams, yet he became essential in George and Lennie s dream. Candy s fear of being fired motivates him to invest in George s plan. Candy is able and willing to cover the down payment. Candy is excited for the first time in years. Candy went on excitedly, How much they want for a place like that? (Steinbeck 59). But when Lennie killed Curley s wife, Candy s dream crumbled as he saw her dead body. Now Candy spoke his biggest fear. You an me can get that little place, can t we, George? You an me can go there an live nice, can t we, George? Can t we? (Steinbeck 94). The stakeholder approach is intended to provide a flexible way for managers to match these interests. This approach helps management anticipate future elements and develop plans to combat any problems that might occur. Stakeholders are also concerned with the survival of their company. So for a company to be successful, stakeholders must implement a course of action that positively affects themselves and their community. Werther mentions that the stakeholder approach enables firms to respond to the dominant trends in society today globalization, rapidly evolving communication technologies, and ever increasing expectations of social goals beyond profit maximization (Werther, 2011, p.34.). Here he explains the importance of generating profits but also explains the benefits that come from maximizing a company s profits. The stability of these relationships depends on the sharing of core principles and values. • 47. Japanese Imperialism Dbq Essay Chloe Chan AP World II Period 4 1/9/18 2010 DBQ During this time period, both India and Japan faced a new situation: the new imperialism of Europe. India was unable to defend themselves, thus leading to them becoming a colony of Britain. Japan however, selectively borrowed from the Europeans after proving themselves to be equals of the once superior Europeans. Despite having such contrasting fates, both India and Japan had similarities in the miserable work conditions for peasants. But because India was a colony while Japan was a country, India data was recorded by British officials and Japanese data was record by Japanese officials. Another difference was the source of labor for textile production. India had mostly men workers whereas Japan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since India was a colony of the British, India data was recorded by British officials while Japanese was record by Japanese officials for it was a self governing country. Document 1 showed a data chart about the production of cotton yarn and cloth in India. (doc 1) However, this data was not gathered by Indian authorities but by the British. This is similar to document 9 which consists of the report on the cotton mills in India, Calcutta. This report was by the British Royal Commission of Labor. In this report, there is information about what was going on with the workers: where they came from, where they lived and their wages. The workers were peasants who lived in small huts near the factory and were paid low wages. (doc 9) Instead of an Indian official reporting the status of the mill, it was a British worker. This is because India was a colony meaning it was under British authority. The British held all the power and made all the important decisions. The Indians were only their slaves and only existed to make money for Britain. This greatly contrasts with document 2 which is a data chart about the production of cotton yarn in Japan put together by the Japanese Imperial Cabinet Bureau of Statistics. (doc 2) This shows how the Japanese government controlled the economy. This is because Japan was a self governing country. It was able to show the Europeans that they are a ...
