Defining Psychological Disorders
Defining psychological disorders. Psychological disorders are behavior patterns that lead to inability
to function properly in life. There are quite a number of mental disorders but I will only focus on
attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder because it is the most studied mental disorder and the most
frequently diagnosed disorder especially in children. This disorder causes inability to pay attention,
difficulty in controlling one s behaviors or causes one to be excessively active. A lot of misleading
information about this disorder is everywhere in the communities and even the society. Some do not
even believe it is real and therefore it is important to understand what this disorder is. Patients with
these disorders will mostly act without thinking and therefore impacting on their families and loved
ones. The actual cause of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorders is not known but other factors may
be a trigger. These factors may include genetics, the society and the environment (Joel 2006). Some
medical conditions and previous brain infections or cases of trauma. It normally runs in families, with
factors such as exposure to alcohol, toxic chemicals or at times premature birth may lead to the
disorder. Diagnosis is done by a set of criteria but begins by assessing the behaviors of a person in
childhood, and their mental development. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Impact Of Football Stadiums
The Impact Football Stadiums Have When governments build stadiums for a sport team millions of
dollars are involved in the process. Since the government pays for these stadiums, it s our tax dollars
that are used. Building a stadium has more disadvantages than advantages. The government doesn t
make a lot of money from the stadiums compared to how much money the government spent on
building the stadium. When a team owner wants to build a new stadium, the team owner asks the
government for the money, so the team owner doesn t have to pay for to stadium. In the past decade
there has been in up rise in stadiums being built. According to the article Point: Local Government

The article Point: Local Government Should not be Involved in Financing Stadiums stated, Eli Jacobs
bought the Baltimore Orioles for $70 million and sold it for $173 million (Pearson Konczal, 2016).
The team owner got an extra profit of $100 million just because a new stadium was built from the tax
payers money. Team owners can make easy money, by having the state build a new stadium for that
team. The team owner gets hundreds of millions of dollars because of this. The team owner makes
money from parking fees, snacks sold, tickets sold, and food trucks outside. After the team owner has
paid their bill the rest of the money is the team owners. When a state, or a city funds a stadium to be
built the funder gets little to no money in return. Stadiums on average cost about $1 billion annually.
We are paying to fund these stadiums instead of doing something that would benefit us. Stadiums
bring no revenue to local businesses and hurt the community. Stadium only benefit the team and the
team owners by giving them more money. Everyone is at a loss when a stadium is built, except the
team owner. Works Cited Bouchard, E., English, M. (2016). Sports Facilities Government Funding:

Nvc Tool Analysis
Reflect on the usefulness of the two tools.
I particularly enjoyed reading all about SCARF, more so than NVC, I think because I can relate more
to it. Perhaps this means I need to work more on NVC? I m not sure because I also like to think I can
politely and correctly communicate with others, usually doing it assertively but in a non violent way.
The five key elements of SCARF (Status, Certainty, Autonomy, Relatedness, and Fairness) were
perhaps a little more natural to me, than using the NVC process, except for Autonomy, which I have
only just learned about in this unit.
I believe they are both very useful to learn, perfect and utilize in every day life with relationships, at
work, with the self, etc.
How would you apply the two tools in your daily life? Use two concrete examples for both tools (4
examples).

I have had zero control, or at least it has mostly felt that way! It stresses me out, and in turn, my
family, friends and especially my partner. Hopefully, I will be on the way to greater autonomy in 2016,
and will have increased rewards. : ) Knowing my situation is stressing out those close to me, and
could be potentially putting a strain on some of my personal relationships, it is important to me to
move onto the next stage of my life as soon as possible; we will all be happier.
I did not really know much at all about autonomy until reading Rock s Journal (2008), but it is
something I naturally crave (especially the element of control). I thought it was just down to the F
element in the ENFJ personality, and because I have OCD type tendencies, so it was also reassuring to
know that autonomy is a natural instinct for all of

Doctrine Of Preemption And Federal Law
a) Under the doctrine of preemption, federal law preempts state law, even when the laws conflict. The
doctrine of preemption is based on the Supremacy Clause established under Article VI of the U.S.
Constitution which dictates that federal law shall be the supreme Law of the Land. b) There are two
categories of preemption supporting federal law s dominion over state law; preemption of field, and
preemption of conflict. Preemption of field can be express or implied. Express preemption occurs
when federal law supplants state authority in a particular field, and implied preemption occurs when
federal law regulates so heavily as to leave little room for state law. Preemption of conflict occurs
when state law conflicts with federal law. Two

mood on job performance, Rothbard and Wilk s (2010) research is of great value.[2] They studied the
moods and performance of 29 customer service representatives in a large insurance company over a
three week period. They wanted to find out how the mood that customer service representatives bring
to the workplace at the start of the day influence task engagement and performance throughout the day
and how the changes in moods during the interactions with the customers affect the rest of the
workday. In this study, both positive and negative mood from non work sources have been shown to
influence work mood and behaviors. They brought forth three sets of hypotheses: Hypothesis 1a:
Higher start of day positive mood will be associated with higher positive work mood later in the day,
controlling for trait affect. Hypothesis 1b: Higher start of day negative mood will be associated with
higher negative work mood later in the day, controlling for trait affect. Hypothesis 2a: Higher
perceived customer positive mood will be associated with higher positive employee work mood
during the day, controlling for trait affect. Hypothesis 2b: Higher perceived customer negative mood

Manhattan Project Effects
On August 6th, 1945 sixty thousand people instantly disintegrated within a five mile radius blast that
erupted over Hiroshima, Japan. Three days later an even stronger blast was felt over the Japanese city
of Nagasaki. Though thousands died, the technologic improvement from the original bomb did not go
unnoticed. Both Little boy and Fat man were successful in collapsing the Japanese will to fight and on
August 15th Japan surrendered to the United States. Without the introduction of the atomic bomb, no
one can say for sure how long the war would have raged on for. As noted in the Battle of Midway the
shortage of experienced pilots hindered Japan but advanced their tactics as well. Rather than training
proficient pilots, the Japanese took a kamikaze approach to aerial combat and rammed fighter planes
into the sides of US ships. At this point, the Japanese were literally willing to die for their country
even if it meant complete suicide. The success of the Manhattan Project did ... Show more content on

Yet, with changing times, technology also changes and becomes more sophisticated. Along with the
implementations that come in regards to atomic energy, the atom bomb has also been revamped. In
1961the Soviets detonated a hydrogen bomb with a destructive power of fifty megatons. In a span of
just over 15 years the power of the original atomic bomb that took out Hiroshima had been outdone,
three thousand fold. Currently, the United States and other world powers have Intercontinental
Ballistic Missiles (ICBM s) in their possessions. The difference between a standard atom bomb and an
ICBM is that the latter is designed to travel much farther distances with its own navigation
mechanism. By the 1970 s it was possible to load two warheads on an ICBM and designate each one a
specific target. It is imperative that the destructive power of these weapons be managed accordingly

Palm Oil Is The World s Most Common Oil
Palm oil is the world s most common oil that can be found in many household items ranging from bars
of soap to dietary foods. Most consumers are unaware that palm oil is present in most food substances
because it is not required to be labeled as such. It is simply branded as vegetable oil. The global
demand for this commodity has increased over the years creating expansions of plantations in
Indonesia leading to biodiversity loss, forest fires, peat degradation, hardship on families and a range
of social issues. Since the early 1980 s palm oil has more than tripled globally primarily in Indonesia.
Most of this expansion has occurred in Indonesia, where the total land area of oil palm plantations
increased by over 2100 per cent (more than 22 times greater) over the same period, growing to 4.6
million hectares . The primary source of supply and production of palm oil is through state owned, big
private corporations, and smallholder farmers. State owned plantations play a modest role in the
Indonesian palm oil industry as big private enterprises (such as the Wilmar Group and Sinar Mas)
produce approximately half of total Indonesian production. Smallholder farmers account for around 35
percent of cultivated land . Today there are nearly ten million hectares of land in Indonesia solely
dedicated to the plantation of this commodity. Individual smallholder farmers own between two and
ten hectares of land for their palm oil farmland. Plantations are located in rural areas

Should Child Beauty Pageants Be Allowed
Every year, about five thousand child beauty pageants are held, with over 250,000 contestants. These
beauty pageants, in which children compete for prizes and money, have been around since the late
1800s and were derived off of women beauty pageants. However, what many people do not realize is
how damaging these contests can be for young children. Many countries, such as France, have banned
beauty pageants for those under the age of sixteen, hoping that other countries would do the same.
Despite this, the United States still has not taken any action about it. Child beauty pageants should not
be allowed for many different reasons.
One of the reasons why child beauty pageants should not be allowed is because it can cause low self
confidence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a logical argument, as the point of these pageants is to recognize the best contestant, and award
them. Though the winner of the contest would be winning a generous amount of money, there would
be a lot of money being spent as well, and for contestants who do not win, it would be a waste. For
example, entry fees to contests usually cost as much as 400 dollars, dresses and costumes cost
hundreds of dollars, and coaching lessons cost money as well. On top of all that, is it really worth
risking health issues for a chance to win a beauty contest? There can be only one winner, so the rest of
the contestants are going to think that they are not good enough to be victorious, which causes low self
confidence. This is going to lead children to compare themselves to others and try to change. Studies
have shown that about 50% of previous beauty pageant contestants between the ages of eleven and
sixteen have considered getting cosmetic surgery, trying to look like others, or changing what they do
not like about themselves. It is not worth to jeopardize all the health issues that can be caused by these
contests just to have a chance to win

Impact Of Stalinism
Assess the impact of Stalinism on the Soviet State until 1941
1st paragraph Stalin, the cult of personality
Stalin s cult of personality, derived through propaganda, censorship and education, was an essential
element of Stalinism which had a significant impact on the society and culture of the Soviet State
between until 1941. Stalin s 50th birthday on 21 December 1929 initiated the moment in Stalin s
dictatorship in which the leader became an object of worship. Millions of party member came to
compare Stalin to Lenin, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. Eventually the cult of Stalin saw him as a

Stalin s Five Year Plans included the embarkment of huge industrial projects and a campaign to
collectivise agriculture. Almost all party members agreed that the Soviet State would require massive
industrial growth to achieve a secure society. Collectivisation was to be undertaken to ensure food
supplies to the cities and help mechanisation, increase output and reduce costs . The first of Stalin s
Five Year Plans reflected Lenin s ideas of giving priority to industries such as hydro electric power,
coal, iron, steel ships, railways, and machinery. However, this first plan failed due to falls in food and
consumer goods output and the many unrealistic plan targets. The second of the Five Year Plans was
scheduled to begin in October 1928 and focused on the production of consumer goods for the workers
and peasants to increase their production, as well as development of heavy industry base for the
military. The third of the Five Year Plans was intended to increase the supply of scarce consumer
goods. However, the Third Plan never met its goals as it was interrupted by the German attack on

Rosalind Franklin Research Papers
Rosalind Elsie Franklin was a very hard working woman in science who worked in discovering of the
structure of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). She was born on July 25, 1920 in London, England, and
she was a chemist as well as a biologist. She helped in discovering the structure of deoxyribonucleic

though she was an outstanding woman in science, her works were not recognized.

but also faced many challenges because she was the only woman in the group (Vanderpool 2009).
After vigorous work, she could discover the two fibers in DNA. Rosalind and Gosling worked very

PURPOSE AND COLLECTION METHODS
The English which is spoken in India is different from that spoken in other regions of the world, and it
is regarded as the unique variety which is called Indian English. The purpose of this folklore project is
to show some of the various ways Indians have intentionally and unintentionally customized English
to better suit their needs and to discuss some of the problems and situations which can and do arise
when Indians use or experience English in different settings. Attitudes about English and English
speakers in India are also explored.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS OF INDIAN ENGLISH
Indian English is a distinct variety of the English language. Many Indians claim that it is very similar
to British English, but this opinion is based on a surface level examination of lexical similarities. Of
course, one must keep in mind that not every linguistic item is used by every Indian English speaker
and that a great deal of regional and educational differentiation exists. Even so, items can be identified
which are indicative of Indian English speech and which are widely used.

A Reflection Of Human Setting In Into The Wild And The...
Novels and storybooks comprise a reflection of human character and individuals in the society. They
are a mirror through which the audience is able to infer lessons which promote their sustainability in
life. Similarly, films are a reflection of a particular viewpoint in the society. Conversely, the film Into
the Wild and the novel Tracks offer insight on an element of human life. They explore the human
setting and collectively conclude that we should all try to escape society. Principally, based on the
premises set forth by the film and the novel, it is our inherent responsibility to isolate ourselves from
those who are around us.
To begin, the theme of isolation comprises a pervasive element in both the novel and the film.
Isolation refers to the distancing of oneself from their communities or peers. In In to the Wild the main
character, Christopher, commits himself to a journey through the isolated wild (Penn 2007). He
renounces his previous affiliations and sets out into the wild with nothing but a journal on existence in
the wild. In the journal, he views himself as a heroic loner and thus contends: You can do anything.
You can go anywhere. Money, power is an illusion. It s up here. You can be here. Me and You (Penn
2007). His commitment to the wild is predicated on the feelings of freedom that were triggered upon
his access into the wild. Equally, the novel Tracks captures the story of Robyn Davidson who leaves
the comfort of her town in the pursuit of camels in the

Abortion is one the most controversial topics in the United States. The issue at hand is should abortion
be legal or not. It is highly debated with in both media and politics. According to History Channel,
Supreme Court legalizes abortion , in 1973 the U.S. Supreme Court Case Roe V. Wade ruled that
women have the constitutional right to privacy, thus legalizing abortion. This law gave women the
right to terminate a pregnancy during the first two trimesters. This sparked huge controversy between
pro life and pro choice believers. Both pro life and pro choice have numerous arguments to justify
their opinions. In a report done by WebMD, Abortion Reasons Women Choose Abortion, nine out of

Plato Homosexual Love Essay
deal with concepts of homosexual love. Sappho, the only ancient Greek female author whose work
survived, talks from the female point of observation, whereas Plato s work concentrates on the idea of
love among males. Though both of their perspectives are similar in ways such as their ideas of
physical attraction and desire, Plato s work creates a better understanding of the nature of love then
Sappho s ideas. This understanding will be shown with three arguments and counter arguments in
order to demonstrate the dominance of Plato over Sappho. It will than be concluded with an overview
of the main idea and a recap of the three arguments made for Plato.
In the symposium, Pausanias (Greek geographer) conveys the second part which talks about a few of
the societal standards representing gay (homoerotic) relationships. The way that a companion (an
older man) and his lover ( a younger man) may act towards each other is largely based on society s

Plato s work can be summarized by that the goal is essentially intellectual satisfaction, while Sappho s
objectives are directly linked with physical beauty and desire for physical attraction. Plato s work
provides a better understanding of love because the homoerotic relationship between an older man and

younger man. Secondly, Pausanias shows the moral aspects are important within homoerotic love

The Yellow Wallpaper, By Charlotte Perkins Gilman And A...
Unaccustomed The short stories, The Yellow Wallpaper, written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman and A
Rose for Emily, written by William Faulkner, have a lot in common regarding the main characters.
Each narrative focuses on the lifestyle and behavior of a bizarre woman who has been kept away for a
certain period of time. One could argue that these women were not initially deranged, though
something must have occurred to send them on such a downward spiral. The main characters in each
account, Jane and Miss Emily, endure situations in their lives which prove to be crucial in the
development of their mental illness, and being isolated gradually causes their illness to escalate. Jane
and Miss Emily both face a monumental change in their lives, which results in the conclusion that
mental illness is the cause of their strange behavior. The women face profoundly different
catastrophes; however, each occurrence involves their families. In Charlotte Perkins Gilman s The
Yellow Wallpaper, during an exchange between John and Jane, John explains, I beg of you, for my
sake and for our child s sake, as well as for your own, that you will never for one instant let that idea
enter your mind! (Gilman 137). Jane gives birth to a little baby boy, which is when her life takes a turn
for the worse. Jane begins showing unusual, if not utterly insane, behavior, as well as depression and
anxiety, which is a result of her post partum depression. In William Faulkner s, A Rose for Emily, he

The ancient peoples would not have been able to move all of those tones and set them up in
complicated forms because they did not have advanced technologies to move them or to construct
temples (from the ones before the technology to build was invented). It has been hypothesized that
these extraterrestrials have come to planet Earth and inspired the early humans to explore. The aliens
would come down to Earth and gather in circles. That is why all over the world there are circle shaped
structures made of something that symbolizes power, such as a rock. Only the extraterrestrials with
their advanced technology would be able to lift the rocks and place them, especially the ones that
overlap each other. There even is proof that they actually have visited. In the writing of the ancient
people, it has been recorded that there is strange creatures that come from the celestial bodies. This
has been recorded in the history of several ancient peoples. They all seem to be intertwined for they all
similarly explain the same things: they gather in a circle and communicate with the humans. In the
end, they inspire them to create new technology and to explore. As I have written before, they created
temples and new structures of buildings, such as the Washington Monument.
All in all, Earth has been visited by extraterrestrial life in ancient and modern times. There have been
abductees and many witnesses. Some has proven to be false, but there still remains that small portion
that is unidentified. We should keep in mind about Area 51, the mysterious U.S. military installation

told me to wait until summer , fortunately this time she was for real. So as soon as summer arrived, I
was already looking for a place to get a tattoo called Johnny s Tattoos; The Place Of Regret. Not this
place, but tattoos in general are famous for having an effect on how people with them are viewed and
even how they are judged.People have viewed other people with lots of tattoos as someone who is not
fit for the workplace or simply just insane.I made an appointment a week after I got my first paycheck.
After waiting for what felt like 1000s of years my appointment date was here. Therefore I went to the
tattoo shop to try something completely new. I went to the tattoo shop to feel something i ve never felt

Ma Joad Character
The Grapes of Wrath written by John Steinbeck, is a book about a family s journey in search for jobs.
The Joads travel from their small farm in Oklahoma to California when they are forced out of their
home. Steinbeck characterizes Ma Joad making decisions concerning her family in order to support
the idea that women should be in charge of their family. Ma Joad is a strong character that will not
back down without a fight when she knows there is a reason to not give up. As the Joads and Wilsons
travel from Oklahoma to Texas through highway 66, the Wilsons car starts to fail and they soon have
to pull over. Not knowing what to do, Tom suggests that the rest of the Joads and Wilsons should keep
should keep driving with the other car and Al, Casey, and him should stay behind to fix the Wilsons
car. Uncle John and Pa Joad do not find a problem in this solution, but soon enough, Ma Joad starts to
voice her concern about the family getting separated and not seeing each other. Pa gets exasperated
with Ma but she does not back down from him and she starts threatening him that nothing will change
her mind but, Pa s anger did not rise, and his hands hung limply at his sides, and in a moment the
group knew that ma had won (169). In the end, everybody except Al, Tom, and Casey decide to wait
in a campsite that is in Bakersfield while they fix the car. Clearly seen, Ma won the argument and this
is the first of many where the family did as she said. Once the car is repaired, the three

Vampirism Research Paper
Throughout history, vampirism and werewolfism have been the basis of most horror stories but some
people believe they have come across these mythical creatures. An example of a werewolf sighting is
that of Lorianne Endrizzi in the autumn of 1989 in Wisconsin, USA. She was driving on Bray Road
where she thought someone was kneeling at the side of the road. She slowed down and the figure
stared at her from six feet away from her car. The creature was coated head to toe with grey and brown
hair, with large fangs and sharp ears. She stated to a reporter that his face was long and had a snout,
like a wolf. The figure s eyes apparently glowed in the darkness and they were a yellow gold colour.
Lorianne further reported that The arms were kind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Usually, the werewolf turns back into a human at sunrise, with no recall of the previous night s
actions. Lycanthropy is a clinical name given to werewolves in fiction, but is also a medical term
referring to someone who is under the influence that they are a wolf (The Brain Bank North West
2012).
Some medical theories concerning the origin of werewolves are based around porphyria which is a
disease that effects the skin and nervous system, the same disease linked to the vampire myth. Some
victims of porphyria display the fang canine look caused by the corrosion of the gums. Furthermore,
following exposure to light, the healing blisters on the skin often grow a thin layer of hair (The Brain
Bank North West 2012).
Wolves are carriers of the lupine parvovirus (LPV), and it is suggested that the virus is responsible for
lycanthropy. LPV infected wolves are resistant to environmental trauma, including digestive enzymes,
making it much easier to spread through contaminated food and water sources. Wolves infect humans
through biting and after infection, there is a period of high fever, chills and other flu like symptoms,
and the victim is likely to experience extreme dehydration and itching as their metabolism and heart
rate increase (Hugo Pecos and Robert Lomax

Pseudo-Profound Bullshit
Pennycook, Cheyne, Barr, Koehler and Fugelsang s paper On the Reception and Detection of Pseudo
Profound Bullshit (2015) was about multiple studies done on the reception and detection of bullshit.
Pennycook et al. examined the mechanisms behind bullshit reception and created valid measures of
bullshit receptivity. The goal of the study was to see if there were consistent and significant
differences in the ability to detect pseudo profound bullshit. Pennycook et al. (2015) state bullshit is
something that implies, but does not contain adequate meaning or truth (p.549). They suggest that
there is a spectrum of bullshit, and that pseudo profound bullshit is an extreme point (p.550) on this
spectrum; it is described as vague and ambiguous. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Deepak Chopra s tweets were used as bullshit statements throughout the studies, and it was found that
knowledge of who he is and his tweets are not a confounding factor. Participants were asked to state
the profundity of statements provided to them, and would then answer tests on verbal intelligence,
heuristics, religious beliefs, cognitive reflections, ontological beliefs, paranormal beliefs, numeracy,
and analytical cognition (tests vary between studies). In studies 1 and 2, Pennycook et al. (2015) found
that participants often failed to detect bullshit statements and found correlations with related variables,
but were unable to tell what the associations were driven by. In study 3 they found that response bias
plays a role in receptivity of bullshit and may explain its association with analytic thinking. Study 4
results support the idea that the difference between profundity ratings for pseudo profound bullshit
and motivational quotes can be used to measure bullshit sensitivity (p.552 558). When the results of
all four studies are looked at as a whole, Pennycook et al. (2015) prove that when vague, meaningless
statements are rated as significant, it is can be considered a psychological phenomenon that is related
to variables of theoretical interest (p.559). They suggest that individuals that are more receptive to
bullshit are less reflective,

Essay on Mammalian Kidney Investigation
Mammalian Kidney Investigation
Background Information:
The kidneys are dark red bean shaped organs that are a very important pair of organs that perform
many functions. The kidneys have a convex side and a concave side. They are each about the size of a
fist. The kidneys are located near the middle back of a human, just below the rib cage, one on each
side of the spine. One kidney is located below the spleen on the left side of the body, whereas the
other kidney is located just below the liver. The kidneys receive blood from the paired renal arteries
and the blood is drained into the paired renal veins. In a human body, the kidneys process about 200
quarts of blood to sift out about 2 quarts of waste products and extra water everyday. ... Show more

Early And Later Horror Films Research Paper
Films have evolved tremendously over the course of time, especially within these past few decades.
Technology and advancements have played a huge part in how films are now created. This essay will
discuss how the Genre, Horror, has changed and evolved over time, as well as discuss the comparison
of early and later horror films. Additionally, this essay will discuss how the development in
technology and social ideologies have effected film content and production. The largest difference
between early and later horror films, is how the film goes about capturing its audience. An example of
this, is the pacing of the movie. A psychologist at Cornell University, James Cutting who studied the

The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty Essay
Life isn t about finding yourself. It s about creating yourself. These great words were spoken by
George Bernard Shaw. The creating of a life is a huge part of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty written
by James Thurber. Walter Mitty has a boring life, so he creates one in the most destructive way. He
dreams of great lives, making m more depressed every day, seeing what he could have and what he
does. The author of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty portrays a boring, dull life by the contrast between
dreams and real life. He makes Walter Mitty a man whose life is unsatisfactory in his standards, who
seems lost through this day, and who dreams his life is fulfilling.
Walter Mitty s life does not give him the excitement he craves, as seen by the contrast between his
excitement filled dream life and his boring, dull real life. In Walter Mitty s dream of being a doctor,
the operating room was full of excitement. The new anesthetizer aiding in the procedure
malfunctioned and he had to fix it on the spot, while the most exciting thing in his life is remembering
to fetch doggy biscuits. While in his normal life Walter Mitty is a man with dullness insured into his
daily activities his dream self is tasked with awe inspiring feats. For example when Commander Mitty

Plato s Symposium Essay
Plato s Symposium
What is the meaning of love? What does love feel like? How does love come about? No one can truly
explain it, yet somehow it s understood. In Plato s Symposium, a dinner party was held with the
discussion of love as the main topic. Everyone was required to make a speech, an ode to Love, the
spirit. The philosopher, Socrates gave his speech last, claiming that his speech was merely a repetition
of what a wise woman named Diotima once told him. The speech was a powerful one, but before the
night was over, a drunk Alcibiades entered. He was asked to make a eulogy for Love as well, but
instead, talked about the nature of Socrates. The nature of Love and the nature of Socrates turned out

Socrates was not the most sensitive or attractive man. He showed up to the dinner party half way

into looking extremely foolish(194b e). Socrates liked to chase things of beauty and value as well. He

The Causes And Effects Of Stress

Stress is something that is inevitable, but what people do not always understand is the fact that
anxiety, depression, sadness, and stress all impact your physical well being. All of these factors trigger
a lower immune system, now picture being in poverty with fear and stress, what people do not get is
the fact that it is not just being hungry or feeling less clothed, it is the feeling of believing you that are
unwanted, uncared for, and unloved. The term stress filled with uncertainty that is used to describe a
dreadful continuous event or responding to events. Growing up in poverty can lead to poor health and
social outcomes, which can also have the impact of morbidity and chronic diseases that impoverished
kids from academic achievements and more behavior problems and emotional issues (Gupta, 2007).
This also includes inadequate health and educational resources which creates a toxic environment,
fewer social opportunities and more exposure to trauma. It is important to recognize that stress is a
trickling effect, it affects you but also the people around you. Stress can influence the way the brain
develops. During, fetal brain development, a very long process starts after the tenth gestational week
when organs, begin to form, during this time the body is extremely vulnerable to the excessive
maternal stress hormones which can change the cognitive function and behavior of the baby.

Tuck Everlasting Point Of View
Time moves forward, and only forward. It s a circle we are born, raised, we live, then we die. But have
you ever imagined what would happen if you were endowed with immortality? What if you could not
die no matter how many decades had passed, while the world around you keeps changing and
everyone else keeps aging? Would it be wonderful to live forever like that? Then you should take a
look at Tuck Everlasting, a novel written by Natalie Babbitt in 1975 which focuses on the negative
side of immortality.
The narrative point of view used in the novel is the third person omniscient, like most of the stories we
were told as children. Our narrator, the author, knows everything. She can zoom in and out on all the
characters, jump from place to place, and even read the thoughts of the main characters. The Prologue
tells us all:
At dawn, Mae Tuck set out on her horse...
At noontime, Winnie Foster, whose family owned the Treegap wood,...
And at sunset a stranger appeared at the Fosters gate.
There is no connection among them. But these are the three main storylines, and the narrator knows
them all. This point of view really fits a story with lots of characters, that spans many years and has
different settings like Tuck Everlasting. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Trucking jobs at one company may look very different from those at another, and their selection
systems should reflect that. It is also important to remember to follow any regulations in place in the
geographic location. With that said, recruitment strategies should be creative and try to extend beyond
the traditional methods. Referrals may be useful in the industry, if care is taken to avoid adverse
impact. It also makes sense to advertise in directed mediums, like in truck stops across the country. If
the organization has the money to invest, they could also build their talent and provide training to the
people they want to put into their talent pipeline by providing courses leading to CDL licensure. This
could create a sense of commitment to the organization and reduce turnover. As far as selection, job
history data may be more relevant to these jobs than it is to others. It would also be wise to check into
any criminal history the person has. Verification of both of these sources is absolutely key to success.
A physical would also be necessary to determine if the person is physically able to safely drive a truck.

Hannah Arendt was regarded as one of significant and persuasive political philosophers of the 20th
century. While as her theories contradict fanon s, her philosophical theory apposes the naturalization
acts of violence, entailing its human nature. Arendt (1969) claims that a society that acts on violence is
a society that lacks power; in her view, force (violence) and power should not be regarded as one in
the practice of politics (1969). In addition, Arendt explains violent revolutions are destructive and
therefore its results are uncontrollable and has negative outcomes for humankind. In views of change,
revolution must accomplish core changes in process of decolonization that is logical and relating. The
fundamental opposition for resorting to violence as a mean to produce change is the neutralization of
violent revolutions as an effect of resorting to it as a strategic procedure to claim change and justice,
this results in preparing the society to act and be totalitarianism. Moreover, the knowledge and belief
that man knows his specified goal is ultimately good is resulted by his ideology that categorizes it as

À la carte Product Development.
The concept of having re usable software and hardware components which can be used for product
developments have been in vogue for quite some time but in form of frameworks conforming to
different standards which need good learning time from their users perspective. À la carte Product
Development aims at having a single portal which can span across the lifecycle of product
development. The portal would have all the interactions and modules that can be made available as a
service.
The thought process aims to bring down new product development to something as simple as selecting
client interfacing UI pages, logging services, databases, cloud based hardware infrastructure, support
management workflows, weekly maintenance activities as simple services which can be selected from
a list in the dropdown of the menu at the À la carte Product Development portal . Once a confirmation
to avail these services in the product is entered, the hardware and software modules would auto
configure and export to produce a ready to deploy application.
The process of having loosely coupled hardware and software components help in making the

Everything is measured, even the hottest and the coldest temperatures can be measured, and in that
case, the word fahrenheit comes into use. the book Word People by Nancy Sorel, defines fahrenheit as
pertaining to a temperature scale that registers the freezing point of water as 32 F and the boiling point

of its creation, and was named after a physicist engineer, named Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit. Fahrenheit
would soon change the world of measuring.
Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit was born on Danzig, Germany in 1869. He was one of Concordia and

President Obama Rewards The Ayatollah Analysis
President Obama rewards the Ayatollah by delisting his financial empire
Because of the sunset clauses in the JCPOA, the ultimate success of the nuclear deal depends on
transformation of the Iranian regime over the next decade from a hardliner revolutionary regime to a
moderate one. Surprisingly, the JCPOA removes the supreme leader s financial empire from the
sanction list on the implementation day. The Ayatollah has used this exclusively controlled financial
industrial conglomerate to pursue his hardline policy of supporting terrorist groups in the region,
oppressing dissidents in Iran and demanding annihilation of Israel. Removing these entities guarantees
prosperity of Supreme Leader s financial empire in the Post sanction Iran. Therefore,

Corruption In The Chocolate War
Benjamin Franklin once stated that rebellion to tyrants is obedience to god (Straub).
This ideal has been a staple of American life since the Revolutionary War. In fact, American authors
often write novels about Katnisses or Trises fighting and even superseding corrupt governments and
tyrants (Collins; Roth). However, these stories are often exaggerated and romanticized, yielding an
inspirational, yet overdone plotline. Realistic writer Robert Cormier challenges this common theme by
writing The Chocolate War, a story in which the protagonist isn t necessarily a good guy and likewise
does not win . In his novel The Chocolate War, Robert Cormier uses the cruelty of some characters
and the indifference of others to show that it takes many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jerry, despite his relative decency, is victimized by the power structure of the school as well as his
peers (Bagnall). Choosing to disturb the universe means that Jerry himself is thrown into chaos
(Junko). His refusal to conform makes him the prime target of both the Vigils and the school officials,
despite admiration from his peers. Cormier makes it clear that moral individuals can not survive
unaided in a corrupt, oppressive system (Harris et al.). Jerry, while standing up for what he believes is
right, is constantly torn down and abused by Archie s goons. No one, not even his best friend Goober,
came to his rescue to combat his oppressors. Arguably, the reason Jerry was not saved was because he
stood alone (Harris et al.). Jerry stood alone in refusing to take the chocolates, his abuse by the Vigils,
and his eventual physical and mental destruction by Janza. In fact, his destruction makes him into a
martyr. His surrender in the end makes him an even more realistic hero and shows that it takes more
people to fight powerful figures (Peck). Cormier challenges the perception of the modern Superman
figure and replaces him with an Average Joe : a jack of all trades but master at none. Despite his
defeat, Jerry s legacy will live beyond him, whether publicly celebrated or privately discussed by
Trinity students (Siegler). Jerry s battle could have been won if his peers acted against the power
structures as

Racism And The Tuskegee Experiment
Some would say racism was the main goal of the researchers associated with the Tuskegee Syphilis
Study, I believe it was about studying the disease past its tertiary stage and finding a cure as well as
racism. Four hundred of the six hundred black men that were enrolled in this experiment were
currently infected with syphilis prior to the beginning of this experiment. The individuals were
provided with free meals, medical care, as well as free burial insurance for participating in this
experiment. After funding for treatment was lost, the study was continued without informing the
individuals of the loss of funding, they also failed to inform the individuals they would never receive
treatment. None of the infected men were told they had the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Alka-Seltzer Surface Area
Question: Does the amount of surface area affect how fast it takes for a rock to be weathered?
Hypothesis: If we use 3 types of rocks , we think that the one that the smallest will be weathered away

Place the third tablet and place it on a sheet of paper. Take the unused beaker and crush the tablet to
where it is a powder. Then, take a pencil and remove any powder on the bottom of the beaker. Take all

Pour the 200 mL of water into the beaker with the tablet powder in it. Instantaneously, start the timer
when you pour the water. Stop the timer when the powder has completely disappeared. DO NOT

Conclusion: The purpose of this lab was to see if surface area affects the rate of weathering. The data
tells us that the surface area does, in fact, affect the rate of weathering. The more surface area (the
crushed tablet), reduces the rate of weathering. In my hypothesis, I believed that the smaller the
individual rocks, the faster the weathering rate would be. At the end of this experiment, I have learned
that the more surface area means that the faster a rock will

When Allocating Work, What Things Should Be Taken Into...
Assessment Tool 2 (AT2): Written/Oral Questions
1. When allocating work, what things should be taken into consideration
When allocating work, you need to ensure that it is goal and target orientated. The manager and
employee need to set realistic goals that are achievable and also have time frames attached. It is
imperative to ensure that your staff members possess the necessary skills and have undertaken suitable
developmental activities to complete the work given. On occasion, the lack of such skills can lead to
perceived unfairness. A team member might, for example, feel upset that he or she is not being
allocated particular tasks which they feel they can accomplish. However, as a manager, if you feel that
the team member lacks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Employees need to document all communications with the employee whether it is written or verbal.
The employee needs a considerable amount of time to improve on their performance before the

c) Whether the person was given an opportunity to respond to any reason related to the capacity or
conduct of the person; and
d) Any unreasonable refusal by the employer to allow the person to have a support person present to

Development of Washington D.C.
Washington D.C. is considered by many people to be the most important city in not just the United
States, but in the whole world. Washington D.C., to many, is like the capitol of the free world.
Decisions that have made the world how it is today have happened in is very city which was named
after the first president of the United States. As important as the city itself is, its development is just as
important. That is why, in the following, we will explore how Washington D.C. came to be the great
city it is today.
George Washington himself chose the location of Washington D.C.; north of where the Potomac and
Anacostia rivers meet. The city was officially founded on July 16, 1790. Pierre Charles L Enfant, a
French architect appointed by George Washington, was to design ... Show more content on

is the National Mall. The National Mall consists of the Capitol Building, the Washington Monument,
and the Lincoln Memorial. First, we will talk about the Washington Monument. The Washington
Monument is a stone obelisk over 500 feet tall and is the centerpiece of the National Mall. The
monument is also made out of 40,000 marble and granite blocks and is the tallest freestanding
structure in the world. You might ask yourself; What is holding this structure together? The answer is
the monuments weight. After six years of construction on the monument, the project ran out of money
because of the young nation going to civil war. The monument was only 150 feet in the air at this
point. Twenty four years later, 1878, construction once again began on the Washington Monument.
Thomas Lincoln Casey was the head engineer on the construction, but was faced with a problem right
away because the original blocks were not available anymore. That is why the bottom portion of the
structure is a different shade than the top portion. Casey had another problem; Congress could not
reach a decision on how the Monument should be

Navistar Case Study
Executive Summary
Navistar was a worldwide leader in the manufacturing medium and heavy trucks for 17 consecutive
years in the North American market. Navistar s premium conventional trucks were produced at the
Chatham assembly plant, which had almost 14 years experience in producing Navistar s premium line
since 1983. Navistar had forecasted increased industry demand for heavy and medium trucks in 1998.
Especially, the Chatham assembly plant s customers had strict requirements to the truck s quality and
delivery date. As the assembly supervisor in Chatham, Andy Ramsz encountered the interior trim
quality and delivery problem for the truck. Andy had begun to gather data on the interior trim supply
problem and he got the crucial reasons ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Environment and Root Cause Analysis Navistar considered quality and on time delivery as a priority
that came before costs; therefore, top management as well as initiatives to improve processes and on
time delivery supported various improvement initiatives to quality programs. Andy is an assembly
supervisor but had very broad job responsibilities. Andy s time was taken up in areas such as supplier
quality evaluations, internal process documentation, process improvement, and much more. His focus
was very widespread and his day was drawn away from scheduled and unscheduled meetings; this
position required long hours and weekend work. In addition to the quality issues, truck interior trim
shortages was another challenge, which resulted in reordering of trim parts leading to additional
material handling, and post assembly installation. These delayed parts required overtime that increased
cost and delayed delivery of the finished truck of the customer. Issues came from both Navistar and
their supplier Trimco. Navistar had design changes such as different sizes, repositioning of
mechanisms and other various designer and material changes; however, these changes to the truck
interiors were not communicated to Trimco before production runs were completed. As a result, parts
were shipped with different specifications than those needed for proper fit during assembly. Due to the
lack of coordination and communication,

Themes Of Big Black Good Man
In the short story Big Black Good Man by Richard Wright there are few different themes that take
place in the story. This story is about an old man, named Olaf Jenson, that was a night porter in a
cheap hotel on the waterfront in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. On one night, Olaf talked to
himself about how there were only three rooms left, and he was going to take a nap because it was
midnight. Before Olaf could take a nap, a big black man came into his hotel looking for a room and a
whore. Within this story, there are three themes that are important, and the themes are judgment, fear,
and suspense.
The first theme in the short story Big Black Good Man is judgment. Since the very first time Olaf, the
hotel clerk, lays eyes on Jim, the biggest, strangest, and the blackest man he d ever seen, he lays
judgment upon him because of how dark and large he was. For a majority of the short story, Olaf
refers to Jim as the black giant. Olaf judged Jim because of his size, how loud he was, and how black
he was, and Olaf assumed he was going to be too violent. Olaf was determined to deny the big black
man a room because of the man s color and size.
The second theme in this short story is fear. Olaf became frightened of Jim the closer he got and the
more he spoke. Jim was about six and a half feet tall, and his voice was very deep. Every time Jim
spoke, he probably shook the entire hotel. These features of Jim frightened Olaf. Olaf wanted to deny
Jim a room to stay, but Jim

A Report On Tigers Delight
Zachary Oakley
Professor Krueger
ENG 201
3 February 2016
Tigers Delight The largest tiger in the world has been measured at over ten feet long and over six
hundred and sixty pounds! Tigers are apart of the cat family and are known to be the largest feline in
the bunch. Within just the tiger species there are nine different subspecies and three of which are
already extinct. Their differences are not as drastic in appearance like other animals, such as dogs for
example, but they still noticeable to the trained eye. All tiger subspecies are currently classified as
being endangered but there are many actions being taken to help keep the current surviving species
from going extinct. Most tigers in nature live to be ten to fifteen years old. Tigers by nature are
carnivores and are only found in nature in one continent on earth, which is Asia. Unlike most cats tiger
enjoy swimming and spend the majority of the hot summer days resting in rivers or lakes.
OneKind.org is an animal relief organization and they explain that tiger s roar can carry more than 2
km and they are most active hunters at night (OneKind). Knowing information about the six living
subspecies of tigers and their differences, whether it be physical make up or social habits, and what
organizations are out there and what they are doing to help the endangered species, is a brilliant start
to having a well rounded knowledge of tigers.
Like all mammals tigers grow up, but what s unique to tigers that is different

  • 2. Defining Psychological Disorders Defining psychological disorders. Psychological disorders are behavior patterns that lead to inability to function properly in life. There are quite a number of mental disorders but I will only focus on attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder because it is the most studied mental disorder and the most frequently diagnosed disorder especially in children. This disorder causes inability to pay attention, difficulty in controlling one s behaviors or causes one to be excessively active. A lot of misleading information about this disorder is everywhere in the communities and even the society. Some do not even believe it is real and therefore it is important to understand what this disorder is. Patients with these disorders will mostly act without thinking and therefore impacting on their families and loved ones. The actual cause of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorders is not known but other factors may be a trigger. These factors may include genetics, the society and the environment (Joel 2006). Some medical conditions and previous brain infections or cases of trauma. It normally runs in families, with factors such as exposure to alcohol, toxic chemicals or at times premature birth may lead to the disorder. Diagnosis is done by a set of criteria but begins by assessing the behaviors of a person in childhood, and their mental development. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nigg. (2006). • 3. The Impact Of Football Stadiums The Impact Football Stadiums Have When governments build stadiums for a sport team millions of dollars are involved in the process. Since the government pays for these stadiums, it s our tax dollars that are used. Building a stadium has more disadvantages than advantages. The government doesn t make a lot of money from the stadiums compared to how much money the government spent on building the stadium. When a team owner wants to build a new stadium, the team owner asks the government for the money, so the team owner doesn t have to pay for to stadium. In the past decade there has been in up rise in stadiums being built. According to the article Point: Local Government Should not be Involved in Financing Stadiums claimed, more than $5 billion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The article Point: Local Government Should not be Involved in Financing Stadiums stated, Eli Jacobs bought the Baltimore Orioles for $70 million and sold it for $173 million (Pearson Konczal, 2016). The team owner got an extra profit of $100 million just because a new stadium was built from the tax payers money. Team owners can make easy money, by having the state build a new stadium for that team. The team owner gets hundreds of millions of dollars because of this. The team owner makes money from parking fees, snacks sold, tickets sold, and food trucks outside. After the team owner has paid their bill the rest of the money is the team owners. When a state, or a city funds a stadium to be built the funder gets little to no money in return. Stadiums on average cost about $1 billion annually. We are paying to fund these stadiums instead of doing something that would benefit us. Stadiums bring no revenue to local businesses and hurt the community. Stadium only benefit the team and the team owners by giving them more money. Everyone is at a loss when a stadium is built, except the team owner. Works Cited Bouchard, E., English, M. (2016). • 4. Nvc Tool Analysis Reflect on the usefulness of the two tools. I particularly enjoyed reading all about SCARF, more so than NVC, I think because I can relate more to it. Perhaps this means I need to work more on NVC? I m not sure because I also like to think I can politely and correctly communicate with others, usually doing it assertively but in a non violent way. The five key elements of SCARF (Status, Certainty, Autonomy, Relatedness, and Fairness) were perhaps a little more natural to me, than using the NVC process, except for Autonomy, which I have only just learned about in this unit. I believe they are both very useful to learn, perfect and utilize in every day life with relationships, at work, with the self, etc. How would you apply the two tools in your daily life? Use two concrete examples for both tools (4 examples). SCARF: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I have had zero control, or at least it has mostly felt that way! I did not really know much at all about autonomy until reading Rock s Journal (2008), but it is something I naturally crave (especially the element of control). I thought it was just down to the F element in the ENFJ personality, and because I have OCD type tendencies, so it was also reassuring to know that autonomy is a natural instinct for all of ... The doctrine of preemption is based on the Supremacy Clause established under Article VI of the U.S. Constitution which dictates that federal law shall be the supreme Law of the Land. b) There are two categories of preemption supporting federal law s dominion over state law; preemption of field, and preemption of conflict. Preemption of field can be express or implied. Express preemption occurs when federal law supplants state authority in a particular field, and implied preemption occurs when federal law regulates so heavily as to leave little room for state law. Rothbard and Wilk s (2010) Study Although there are very few studies which examine the effect of mood on job performance, Rothbard and Wilk s (2010) research is of great value.[2] They studied the moods and performance of 29 customer service representatives in a large insurance company over a three week period. They wanted to find out how the mood that customer service representatives bring to the workplace at the start of the day influence task engagement and performance throughout the day and how the changes in moods during the interactions with the customers affect the rest of the workday. In this study, both positive and negative mood from non work sources have been shown to influence work mood and behaviors. They brought forth three sets of hypotheses: Hypothesis 1a: Higher start of day positive mood will be associated with higher positive work mood later in the day, controlling for trait affect. Hypothesis 1b: Higher start of day negative mood will be associated with higher negative work mood later in the day, controlling for trait affect. Hypothesis 2a: Higher perceived customer positive mood will be associated with higher positive employee work mood during the day, controlling for trait affect. • 7. Manhattan Project Effects On August 6th, 1945 sixty thousand people instantly disintegrated within a five mile radius blast that erupted over Hiroshima, Japan. Three days later an even stronger blast was felt over the Japanese city of Nagasaki. Though thousands died, the technologic improvement from the original bomb did not go unnoticed. Both Little boy and Fat man were successful in collapsing the Japanese will to fight and on August 15th Japan surrendered to the United States. Without the introduction of the atomic bomb, no one can say for sure how long the war would have raged on for. As noted in the Battle of Midway the shortage of experienced pilots hindered Japan but advanced their tactics as well. Rather than training proficient pilots, the Japanese took a kamikaze approach to aerial combat and rammed fighter planes into the sides of US ships. At this point, the Japanese were literally willing to die for their country even if it meant complete suicide. The success of the Manhattan Project did ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Currently, the United States and other world powers have Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBM s) in their possessions. The difference between a standard atom bomb and an ICBM is that the latter is designed to travel much farther distances with its own navigation mechanism. The song is quite different from tunes here in the United States. It was filled with a lot of emotion. Reggae is a music genre originated from Jamaica during the late 1960s. • 10. Palm Oil Is The World s Most Common Oil Palm oil is the world s most common oil that can be found in many household items ranging from bars of soap to dietary foods. Most consumers are unaware that palm oil is present in most food substances because it is not required to be labeled as such. It is simply branded as vegetable oil. The global demand for this commodity has increased over the years creating expansions of plantations in Indonesia leading to biodiversity loss, forest fires, peat degradation, hardship on families and a range of social issues. Since the early 1980 s palm oil has more than tripled globally primarily in Indonesia. Most of this expansion has occurred in Indonesia, where the total land area of oil palm plantations increased by over 2100 per cent (more than 22 times greater) over the same period, growing to 4.6 million hectares . The primary source of supply and production of palm oil is through state owned, big private corporations, and smallholder farmers. State owned plantations play a modest role in the Indonesian palm oil industry as big private enterprises (such as the Wilmar Group and Sinar Mas) produce approximately half of total Indonesian production. Smallholder farmers account for around 35 percent of cultivated land . Today there are nearly ten million hectares of land in Indonesia solely dedicated to the plantation of this commodity. Individual smallholder farmers own between two and ten hectares of land for their palm oil farmland. Plantations are located in rural areas ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Should Child Beauty Pageants Be Allowed Every year, about five thousand child beauty pageants are held, with over 250,000 contestants. These beauty pageants, in which children compete for prizes and money, have been around since the late 1800s and were derived off of women beauty pageants. However, what many people do not realize is how damaging these contests can be for young children. Many countries, such as France, have banned beauty pageants for those under the age of sixteen, hoping that other countries would do the same. Despite this, the United States still has not taken any action about it. Child beauty pageants should not be allowed for many different reasons. One of the reasons why child beauty pageants should not be allowed is because it can cause low self confidence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is a logical argument, as the point of these pageants is to recognize the best contestant, and award them. Though the winner of the contest would be winning a generous amount of money, there would be a lot of money being spent as well, and for contestants who do not win, it would be a waste. For example, entry fees to contests usually cost as much as 400 dollars, dresses and costumes cost hundreds of dollars, and coaching lessons cost money as well. On top of all that, is it really worth risking health issues for a chance to win a beauty contest? There can be only one winner, so the rest of the contestants are going to think that they are not good enough to be victorious, which causes low self confidence. This is going to lead children to compare themselves to others and try to change. Studies have shown that about 50% of previous beauty pageant contestants between the ages of eleven and sixteen have considered getting cosmetic surgery, trying to look like others, or changing what they do not like about themselves. It is not worth to jeopardize all the health issues that can be caused by these contests just to have a chance to win ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first of Stalin s Five Year Plans reflected Lenin s ideas of giving priority to industries such as hydro electric power, coal, iron, steel ships, railways, and machinery. However, this first plan failed due to falls in food and consumer goods output and the many unrealistic plan targets. The second of the Five Year Plans was scheduled to begin in October 1928 and focused on the production of consumer goods for the workers and peasants to increase their production, as well as development of heavy industry base for the military. • 16. A Reflection Of Human Setting In Into The Wild And The... Novels and storybooks comprise a reflection of human character and individuals in the society. They are a mirror through which the audience is able to infer lessons which promote their sustainability in life. Similarly, films are a reflection of a particular viewpoint in the society. Conversely, the film Into the Wild and the novel Tracks offer insight on an element of human life. They explore the human setting and collectively conclude that we should all try to escape society. Principally, based on the premises set forth by the film and the novel, it is our inherent responsibility to isolate ourselves from those who are around us. To begin, the theme of isolation comprises a pervasive element in both the novel and the film. Isolation refers to the distancing of oneself from their communities or peers. In In to the Wild the main character, Christopher, commits himself to a journey through the isolated wild (Penn 2007). He renounces his previous affiliations and sets out into the wild with nothing but a journal on existence in the wild. In the journal, he views himself as a heroic loner and thus contends: You can do anything. You can go anywhere. Money, power is an illusion. It s up here. You can be here. Me and You (Penn 2007). His commitment to the wild is predicated on the feelings of freedom that were triggered upon his access into the wild. Sappho, the only ancient Greek female author whose work survived, talks from the female point of observation, whereas Plato s work concentrates on the idea of love among males. Though both of their perspectives are similar in ways such as their ideas of physical attraction and desire, Plato s work creates a better understanding of the nature of love then Sappho s ideas. This understanding will be shown with three arguments and counter arguments in order to demonstrate the dominance of Plato over Sappho. It will than be concluded with an overview of the main idea and a recap of the three arguments made for Plato. In the symposium, Pausanias (Greek geographer) conveys the second part which talks about a few of the societal standards representing gay (homoerotic) relationships. • 20. The Yellow Wallpaper, By Charlotte Perkins Gilman And A... Unaccustomed The short stories, The Yellow Wallpaper, written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman and A Rose for Emily, written by William Faulkner, have a lot in common regarding the main characters. Each narrative focuses on the lifestyle and behavior of a bizarre woman who has been kept away for a certain period of time. One could argue that these women were not initially deranged, though something must have occurred to send them on such a downward spiral. The main characters in each account, Jane and Miss Emily, endure situations in their lives which prove to be crucial in the development of their mental illness, and being isolated gradually causes their illness to escalate. Jane and Miss Emily both face a monumental change in their lives, which results in the conclusion that mental illness is the cause of their strange behavior. The women face profoundly different catastrophes; however, each occurrence involves their families. In Charlotte Perkins Gilman s The Yellow Wallpaper, during an exchange between John and Jane, John explains, I beg of you, for my sake and for our child s sake, as well as for your own, that you will never for one instant let that idea enter your mind! (Gilman 137). Jane gives birth to a little baby boy, which is when her life takes a turn for the worse. Jane begins showing unusual, if not utterly insane, behavior, as well as depression and anxiety, which is a result of her post partum depression. In William Faulkner s, A Rose for Emily, he ... • 44. Corruption In The Chocolate War Benjamin Franklin once stated that rebellion to tyrants is obedience to god (Straub). This ideal has been a staple of American life since the Revolutionary War. In fact, American authors often write novels about Katnisses or Trises fighting and even superseding corrupt governments and tyrants (Collins; Roth). However, these stories are often exaggerated and romanticized, yielding an inspirational, yet overdone plotline. Realistic writer Robert Cormier challenges this common theme by writing The Chocolate War, a story in which the protagonist isn t necessarily a good guy and likewise does not win . Choosing to disturb the universe means that Jerry himself is thrown into chaos (Junko). His refusal to conform makes him the prime target of both the Vigils and the school officials, despite admiration from his peers. Cormier makes it clear that moral individuals can not survive unaided in a corrupt, oppressive system (Harris et al.). Jerry, while standing up for what he believes is right, is constantly torn down and abused by Archie s goons. No one, not even his best friend Goober, came to his rescue to combat his oppressors. Arguably, the reason Jerry was not saved was because he stood alone (Harris et al.). Jerry stood alone in refusing to take the chocolates, his abuse by the Vigils, and his eventual physical and mental destruction by Janza. In fact, his destruction makes him into a martyr. His surrender in the end makes him an even more realistic hero and shows that it takes more people to fight powerful figures (Peck). Cormier challenges the perception of the modern Superman figure and replaces him with an Average Joe : a jack of all trades but master at none. Despite his defeat, Jerry s legacy will live beyond him, whether publicly celebrated or privately discussed by Trinity students (Siegler). Andy s time was taken up in areas such as supplier quality evaluations, internal process documentation, process improvement, and much more. His focus was very widespread and his day was drawn away from scheduled and unscheduled meetings; this position required long hours and weekend work. In addition to the quality issues, truck interior trim shortages was another challenge, which resulted in reordering of trim parts leading to additional material handling, and post assembly installation. • 51. Themes Of Big Black Good Man In the short story Big Black Good Man by Richard Wright there are few different themes that take place in the story. This story is about an old man, named Olaf Jenson, that was a night porter in a cheap hotel on the waterfront in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. On one night, Olaf talked to himself about how there were only three rooms left, and he was going to take a nap because it was midnight. Before Olaf could take a nap, a big black man came into his hotel looking for a room and a whore. Within this story, there are three themes that are important, and the themes are judgment, fear, and suspense. The first theme in the short story Big Black Good Man is judgment. Since the very first time Olaf, the hotel clerk, lays eyes on Jim, the biggest, strangest, and the blackest man he d ever seen, he lays judgment upon him because of how dark and large he was. For a majority of the short story, Olaf refers to Jim as the black giant. Olaf judged Jim because of his size, how loud he was, and how black he was, and Olaf assumed he was going to be too violent. Olaf was determined to deny the big black man a room because of the man s color and size. The second theme in this short story is fear. Olaf became frightened of Jim the closer he got and the more he spoke. Jim was about six and a half feet tall, and his voice was very deep. Every time Jim spoke, he probably shook the entire hotel.
