Your task is to analyse the data and provide answers to the above questions. While your client
does not use any technical jargons, you realise that the answer to Part (a) requires the
construction of a proper econometric model for the historical building approvals, which will in
turn produce the answer to Part (b). Your report should have four sections. The Executive
Summary section should contain a summary of your answers and conclusions to the client s
questions. In the Main Report section, you should report how you analyse the data, build and
check the model, and produce the answers and conclusions. This section justifies the contents of
Executive Summary . In the Further Issues section, you should comment on the likely
shortcomings of your results. The Appendix section should hold the set of EViews commands
used in your analysis. Further you do want to impress your client by delivering a nicely
presented report. Hints Total length of your completed project, including all discussions, tables,

Targets of Satire in The Ultimate Hitchhiker’s Guide to...
Targets of Satire in The Ultimate Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy Douglas Adams satirizes many
targets in The Ultimate Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy. Adams came up with the idea for The
Ultimate Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy in a drunken haze in Germany while he was lying in a
field with the stars spinning over him (Adams, Douglas 12) which explains the style of humor, and
the satirein the novel, which does not appear to make sense at first, but eventually does. Adams
almost forgot about his idea for the novel (Gaiman 7). The Ultimate Hitchhiker s Guide to the
Galaxy satirizes many targets, but especially government and religion. The Hitchhiker s Guide to
the Galaxy began as an idea that Adams had, believe it or not,... Show more content on

Contrary to that fact of radical atheism, however, the satire of religion is generally mild. For
example, God does exist, but His final message to the Universe is We apologize for the
Inconvenience (Adams, Ultimate Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy, IV 665). However, other
minor gods also exist, with Thor being a recurrent character. Another particularly memorable
moment is when Zarquon, a Jesus surrogate character, returns to the Universe... a few seconds
before the Universe ends (Galaxy, II 272), demonstrating how Adams believes that even if
religions are correct, that would not change much. Finally, Adams satirizes religion very
effectively with the in book device, the Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy Mk. II, which is a
device which appears to be a bird, but has immense power. God indeed exists in The Hitchhiker s
Guide to the Galaxy, but that s about the extent of His powers. His entire involvement in the
series is minimal. The opening words of one of the novels are In the beginning, the Universe was
created. This has made a lot of people angry and been widely regarded as a bad move (Adams II,
176). So the first thing God does in the entire history of everything was a mistake, in Adams s
eyes. Next, when God sent Jesus, in the words of the novel, One man had been nailed to a tree for
saying how great it would be to be nice to people for a change (Adams I, 18). So, according to
Adams, God has almost no power to influence

Tax Credits Are Better Than Deductions
Tax Credits Tax credits are better than deductions because they reduce your taxes dollar for
dollar. For example, federal and state governments offer many credits for research and
development, reducing energy usage, creating jobs and accommodating people with disabilities.
We ll explore the topic further in the Special Business Deductions. In bad years, especially when
you start a business and claim extra deductions, you might lower your taxes enough to qualify for
the Earned Income Tax Credit that lowers taxes for low to moderate income families. The
Lifetime Learning Credit is worth 20% of up to $10,000 that you spend for post secondary
education and training. The credit can take up to $2,000 off your taxes for fees spent on college
courses, training classes and earning certifications. The American Opportunity Tax Credit returns
the first $2,000 that you spend on college expenses for each dependent and 25% of the next $2,000
for a maximum credit of $2,500 per student. Special Business Deductions The federal government
and many state governments offer various tax credits, incentives and larger Section 179 deductions
for increasing energy efficiency, accommodating people with disabilities, removing architectural
and transportation barriers to mobility challenged people and encouraging entrepreneurs to
revitalize certain enterprise zones in some urban cities and areas where natural disasters have
occurred. Disability Accommodations You can qualify for tax benefits [4]

James Weldon Johnson s Poetry
One poet, who s work has been relevant in the black community since the beginning of the
twentieth century, is that of James Weldon Johnson. Spanning the Reconstruction period and the
New Negro (Harlem) Renaissance, Johnson s work change as the time did. Yet, this does not
mean that all the poems in each era were significantly alike. The Gift to Sing and Prayer at Sunrise
are both poems the Johnson published towards the end of the reconstruction period. These poems
are related in their modes and devices used, but have different structures. Moreover both poems use
the same Black Arts patterns, but have differing messages intended for two separate groups of
people . Despite the differences of these poems, they are both great examples of the... Show more

Because both poems were written doing the Reconstruction, they were both forms of
encouragement. Yet, The Gift to Sing is encouraging the audience to look inwards to find their
source of hope and courage. Phrases such as in my throat, and in my heart reveal this. Prayer at
Sunshine, on the other hand, makes pleads to the great Maker, and Great Father of the sun. This
poem is instructing the audience to turn to God, or a god, because that is who will give provided
joy and strength to make it through each day. Through these different messages, people would be
able to find the exact type of encouragement that they needed. The works of James Weldon
Johnson are ones that are still as important to day, just as they were in 1917. The Gift to Sing and
Prayer at Sunrise, are just two of Johnson s pieces that live on because of their messages of
inspiration. Coupled with their dual use of the same patterns, devices, and related modes, these
poems may not seem to be that different. Yet, through the structure and the messages of these
poems, one can see that they were made for two distinct

Fast Tracking Design And Construction Phases Essay
Fast Tracking Design and Construction Phases. The implementation phase of the Chunnel Tunnel
was rife with risks and issues as the project team opted to fast track the design and construction
phases of the project (Anbari, et al.,2005, p. 12). Fast tracking is described by the Project
Management Institute (2013, p. 540) as a schedule compression technique in which activities or
phases normally done in sequence are performed in parallel for at least a portion of their duration.
Typically, project teams use this technique in hopes of shortening the delivery timeframe with the
knowledge that this approach makes the project susceptible to additional risks (Anbari, et al.,2005,
p. 10). The Chunnel Tunnelproject team chose to fast track overlap the execution of these two
phases due to schedule delays and cost overruns in previous phases. For the project team,
compressing the construction time was crucial to ensure that the project objectives would be
completed. In time, banks and private investors recognized the incremental risks associated with
continuous delays and began weighing in on project decisions to minimize risks (Anbari, et
al.,2005, p. 9). Financial stakeholders expected a return on investment (ROI) and the project team
allowed them to have too much control when recommending risk mitigation strategies (Anbari, et
al.,2005, p. 9). Thus, subcontractor contracts were changes to fixed price contract and later resulted
in a contractor claim (Anbari, et al.,2005, p. 9).

Semiautomatic Firearms
A Gun Is A Gun Is A Gun Right?
You have seen the articles, the top 20 firearms all Preppers need, or the five best self defense
handguns, or here is a list of the best rifles or shotguns for home defense and the lists go on.
Confusing, and you probably did not learn anything, and you may feel somewhat slighted, because
you do not have any of the guns that the so called expert was stating emphatically that you need.
It is not the firearm, but the person using it, and then the reason that person wants a firearm that is
the deciding factor. Let s face it; any firearm that can put a round downrange is better than
throwing a lamp at someone. Do you know how to decide?
From a purely mechanical and technological standpoint, today s semiautomatic pistols are superior.
Not too long ago if someone mentioned handguns you automatically thought revolver. The ever

There is a reason however, why most militaries around the world carry semiautomatic pistols and
not revolvers and many in law enforcement carry them as well.
Keep in mind some semiautomatics are Double Action (DA) and Single Action (SA). Once a
round is chambered from the slide action, the hammer is back. From this point you can de cock it
to make it double action or leave the hammer back for single action. After the first round
subsequent shots are of course single action, because the slide is forced back to eject a shell
cocking the firearm each time.
The revolver is not going anywhere, because people grew up with them, it may have been for
many their first handgun that was handed down. They do have advantages over semiautomatics
and there are disadvantages as well. You do not have to choose, because you can have both as
long as you become proficient in their use. You do have to consider who will be using the weapon

Descriptive Essay About Snow Angel
Snow Angel
Once upon a time, there lived a girl named Angelina whose dream was to have a chance at seeing
the world and the seven wonders it held. Perhaps, someday, she sighed, looking out her bedroom
window. For now, the one room apartment her family shared with her and someday were enough.
For years, it seemed it would always be.
But, one day, on her way back home from buying salt from the market, a goblin appeared and
strolled up to Angelina. He had a smug walk and a smile that carried malicious intent. Using his
charisma, he proposed a bargain. Suddenly, enough was insufficient.
Goblins were not to be trusted, especially those that made deals . . . but, a world of infinite
wonders for a morsel of salt seemed generous too generous. That s what she said when he asked,
but his wild tales about the ecstasy of joy he could gift to her intrigued her.
The goblin began to bounce around, and the grin on his face made Angelina envious. So, you re
turning down the mere proposition of absolute happiness compared to your dull and mundane life
because . . . the fairy tales tell you goblins play tricks? he questioned. You re smarter than that, aren
t you?
I. . . . Angelina didn t know what to say.
You haven t got much time to decide, dearie. I ve got plenty of offers waiting on the other side of
town, but I thought a lovely lass like you might need a little bit of cheerin up. His smirk
challenged Angelina. Well, I ain t got no time for dilly dallyin , he said, walking

Is Data A Person
Is Data a Person? According to Daniel Dennett, there are six factors a being must meet to be
considered a person, regardless if they are human or not. The six factors are: rationality,
conscious mental state and intentionality, verbal communication, self consciousness, subject of a
special stance or attitude, and reciprocating this person regarding stance. Within the single
episode, The Measure Of A Man, Data proved to be able to meet all these requirements, thus
making him a person. The first factor, rationality, Data shows throughout the episode. He
rationalizes during the poker game, he rationalizes when he decides to resign, even when he
agrees to the trial. During the poker game he rationalizes what to do next, whether to fold or
raise. Then later on in the episode, data was being forcefully transferred, he was told he could
avoid this situation by resigning. He made his own rational choice to resign so that he wouldn t be
experimented on. When he was told he was not a person, and property of the starfleet, he made the
rational decision and went to court to prove... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

them to perform the action. Data, when he does anything, he does so out of his own deliberate

conscious mental state and with intentionality. Verbal communication is the third factor to be
considered a person. Data, with no troubles, has the ability to communicate verbally with
everyone shown in the episode. Self consciousness ties with the first and second point. Data is
conscious of himself and his surroundings. During the trial data was asked by the Captain if he

Gilgamesh Essay
Topical Essay 1
The story of Gilgamesh depicts all of the heroic triumphs and heart breaking pitfalls a heroic
narrative should depict to be able to relate to today s audience. However, Gilgamesh was once
considered a lost and forgotten piece of literature for thousands of years, so there is a tremendous
gap between the time it was created and the time it was translated into language that today s
audience can understand. That gap in history makes several aspects of the story of Gilgamesh
strange and unfamiliar because what we now know about ancient Middle Eastern cultures and
languages is a lot less than what we know about the cultures that prospered after ancient Middle
Eastern cultures. Much of the content in the story of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the prostitute was depicted as a nurturer and a symbol of pleasure. The prostitute seduced
Enkidu and taught him how to function properly in human society. The prostitute also played a
major role in Enkidu and Gilgamesh becoming friends because she led Enkidu to Uruk, which
was the place Gilgamesh ruled. The way the story of Gilgamesh ended was a bit strange to me as
well because typical heroic narratives end in heroism and triumph. In the story of Gilgamesh
Gilgamesh doesn t reach his goal of attaining eternal life at the end, instead he fails miserably and
meets the inevitable fate of death. I expected him to overcome the tremendous odds that were
stacked against him and victoriously become immortal. Today s audience is used to the hero
overcoming what most consider impossible at the end of a story. Although I found the story of
Gilgamesh to be somewhat strange it contained several familiar elements that are prevalent in
many heroic tales from the past and present. One familiar element was what some people refer to
as the under dog factor. Gilgamesh and Enkidu embarked upon the most grueling and epic journey
of their lives just to find the vicious giant named Humbaba. The way that Humbaba was described
in the story made you feel like there is no way possible he can be defeated. This makes the
audience want to side with the lesser opponents because you can relate

ABSTRACT:
Distribution Channel Margins form an important component of the distribution cost which directly
affects the bottom line of any company. While the companies are trying to reduce the distribution
costs, to improve their own margin pressures, there seem to be little innovations in this area.
The margins offered to the distribution channel members by most of the companies are fixed in
percentage, which is directly proportional to the price of the product. In case of any change in price,

2. Distributor s Cost: The above model does not consider the cost of running the business of the
Distributor. Due to diverse nature of the Indian markets, cost of running a distribution business
differs from market to market. Some markets may have higher concentration of retailers in few
places whereas some markets offer scattered locations of retailers, thereby affecting the
transportation cost. In highly populous markets, the speed of credit cycle may be high as compared
to less populous markets, thereby affecting the working capital requirement. The congestion on the
urban roads, distribution time, manpower requirement, average order quantity, etc. also need
customized considerations. 3. Return on Investment: When the margins are standardized, the ROI
calculation is totally dependent on the volumes of business. Executives often inflate the targeted
volume of business to meet the ROI expectations of the distributors. Many times, such inflated
targets are unrealistic and unachievable, resulting in loss to the distributor. This results in loss of
trust and goodwill of the firm and higher attrition rate of the distributors. 4. Firm s Marketing
Strategy: A Firm may change its marketing strategy which may require price changes. Such
strategies may include re positioning,

Adversity In The Glass Castle
In the past 100 years, America has gone through two world wars, a great depression, and a
fluctuating economy all of which have made us stronger as a nation. Though adversity is a hard
thing to over come, it helps our society grow. Would America be the same if we had never gone
through the Great Depression? Of course not. There are however, other bouts of adversity that
even children can relate to. One may have abusive or alcoholic parents, or even experience death at
a young age. I can strongly agree with Horace in that adversity elicits talents, which would have lain
dormant in prosperous circumstances. Adversity, summed up, is the long term hardships and
misfortune that guide us into growing as people and as a country. If everyone was... Show more

However, if you don t know sadness, then how will you ever know true happiness? The answer
is simple; you never will. A little less than 80 years ago, World War II began and eventually the
whole world was at war. Americans experienced many hardships, such as having their loved ones
at war, financial troubles, and taking care of their families by themselves. Surprisingly, good
outcomes could possibly develop as a result of over 60 million people dead. For one, the creation
of the United Nations occurred right after the war. This is critically important to the world today
because now everyone is at peace. Another result of the war was women now started entering the
work force, and many gender roles disappeared because women were forced to do men s work
while their spouses were at war. This is extremely beneficial to American women today, mainly
because women would be treated differently. Although World War II was a very adverse time for

A Woman s Descent Into Madness
Shayna Pospisil

A women s descent into madness Hamlet is praised as one of the greatest literary works ever
written but unlike the title, many characters play key roles in the development of the story and his
progression towards revenge induced madness. One such character is Hamlet s lover Ophelia. She
is a pivotal character in the effectiveness as well as execution of the plot for revenge. One fact
that is commonly short sited is the relationship Ophelia has with Hamlet and how that ultimately
affects his road towards revenge. Without Ophelia there is no Hamlet. Ophelia s innocence, lack
of knowledge and ignorance, and weakness of the mind all play a key role in not only her own
but also Hamlet s demise. One of the most talked about subjects in the play itself is Ophelia s
innocence of purity. Because Hamlet was going to Denmark a relationship with Ophelia would
never work therefore her father felt the intense need to protect her innocence. Any kind of
relationship would be detrimental to not only Ophelia but her family as well. If Ophelia were to
lose her purity before marriage she would no longer be desirable to any other man because she
would be used goods . That would reflect not only on herself but on her family. Another
interesting point is just how protective her brother Laertes is of her virtue. In Act I, Laertes gives
advice to Ophelia on the pitfalls of a pre marital relationship in a lengthy speech that s geared

What Is The Differences Between The Bertram House And The...
Typology is the taxonomic classification of characteristics found in buildings and urban places,
according to their association with different groups, such as degrees of development, levels of
formality, and thought processes. It stands to reason that 2 buildings with the same typology would
have more similarities than they would differences. However this is not always the case. More
often than not buildings with the same typology can differ greatly. Take for example the Bertram
House and the Tubac House. These two buildings are both a house typology however they represent
this same typology in varying ways some ways similar others vastly different. These differences
have come about due to many influences such as style, lighting, form, spatial organization, plan of
the building, school of thought, separation of private, semi private and public space, materiality, and
focus of the building. This essay aims to theorize how buildings with the same typology can have
such massive differences between them.
The Bertram House (See Figure 1.1) was designed and constructed by John Barker in 1839 (an
English emigrant) and named the house in memory of his first wife Ann Bertram Findlay. The

Fugality Research Paper
The Order Behind Frugality Both Kemmu shikimoku, issued by the Ashikaga bakufu in 1336, and
the Code for the Warrior Households, issued by the Tokugawa bafuku in 1615, stipulated that it
was indispensable to practice frugality. Both Ashikaga bakufu and Tokugawa bafuku were new
regimes when they promulgated these two legal documents. While at first glance, these two legal
documents might seem to share similar attitudes toward frugality, in fact, they were different in
nature. In this paper, I would like to compare Kemmu shikimoku (1336) and the Code for the
Warrior Households (1615), by first closely examining the details of these two frugality laws and
then speculating their motivations for issuing the frugality law. In so doing, I wish to... Show more

Both legal documents resorted to classics and tradition as justification. For instance, in Kemmu
shikimoku, the author confessed that he had selected the teachings of Japan and China, past and
present (Grossberg, 22). Likewise, at the end of the Code for the Warrior Households, it stated that
This is the clear admonition of the wise men of old (Wm. Theodore et al., 14). Such references to
history and tradition were necessary, since both Ashikaga bakufu and Tokugawa bakufu were newly
founded, when Kemmu shikimoku and the Code for the Warrior Households were issued
respectively. While both regimes solidified their legitimacy by embracing the history, their
fundamental governing ideologies had changed. On the one hand, the authors of Kemmu
shikimoku still regarded virtue as the most important thing for the government. It said in Kemmu
shikimoku that The [Chinese] classics say that virtue is good government, and government rests in

The Epic of Beowulf
Beowulf is the oldest anglo saxon poem written in English. The poem describes the heroic deeds
of Beowulf in his fight against monsters. Even if the events narrated in the poem take place in
Denmark, the poem was transmitted by oral language between the anglo saxon even 200 years after
its creation. Anglo saxons did not consider themselves british, but vikings, and their heroes were
always from Scandinavia.
The author of Beowulf is anonymous. The original poem was written on sheep tanned leather.
Beowulf is not only the story of a young man that gains glory against monsters or of an old king
that dies fighting a dragon, but it is the story of a brave man who, once young and invincible,
chooses to fight against the dragon though he knows that he s going to have a tragic end.
Beowulf meets all the features of an epic poem: it is a long narration of a national hero ( he is
recognized, rewarded and glorified by the king himself and his people), his travel on the sea, his
adventures and the heroic episodes he s the central figure in. Moreover, the main protagonist,
Beowulf, is a brave young man, like Gilgamesh, Achilles or Hercules, with more than human
strength and wiser, more courageous than others. Unlike the other epic heroes we have studied
untill now, Beowulf is giving us a detailed self description when he meets the king : In my youth I
have done many glorious deed.
The episodes of the poem are moving ahead step by step; this literary procedure is called

The Implementation Of The New Standard Rule
As many know revenue is the amount of money that a company receives during a specific period
/time. However revenue recognition is slightly different, it is an accounting principle under GAAP
that determines the specific conditions of when revenue is recognized or accounted for. Since
many believe that the standard was in need for improvement, on August 12, 2015 the FASB issued
an Accounting Standards Update. The update based on the board s decision decided that public
organizations should apply the new revenue recognition to annual reports beginning after December
15, 2017. It is said that the new standard is major achievement for the Boards in improving this
financial standard. The purpose of the new standard is to establish principles... Show more content

By being able to cut down on paperwork and build up a proper support beam would be able to help
the companies in numerous ways. From removing the inconsistencies and weaknesses it would
make it easier for their accountant to look at the financial statements as well an auditor when going
through the company s financials to make sure it s up to par. Therefore, by making a strong
framework for revenue issues then you would be allowed to fix any errors that you may have
missed when trying to eliminate the inconsistencies and weaknesses so that you are able to make
adjusting entries for the revenue issues. More new rules include that it will improve comparability
of revenue recognition practices across entities, industries, jurisdictions, and capital markets, and
provide more useful information to users of financial statements through improved disclosure
requirements, For the new standard to improve the comparability of the revenue recognition is a
huge help to numerous organizations. With being able to compare the revenue documents with
other areas in the financial world then it can be a much better process overall. When people are able
to compare things in different perspectives they get a sense of confidence that they are able to

Liquids, Vitamins, Minerals, Water And Fats Essay
Substances that need to move into the cells :
Oxygen,vitamins, minerals, water and fats.
Substances that need to move out of the cells:
Insulin, carbon dioxide, and enzymes. The plasma membrane is close to animal cells where the
exchange of substances inside and outside of cells revenue a place . Some of the substances have
to move between the extracellular fluid outside cells to inside of the cell, and some elements
necessity to interchange from inside to the extracellular fluid.
Proteins which are stuck into plasma membrane help to open the channels in the membrane, (for
example chemicals produced by the body )and ions are allowed to pass through the channels .
They either are recognized by a receptor ( EXP : protein molecule) in the cell membrane, or they
attribute to a transporter particle, which is permitted to go through the channels. Because the
plasma membrane is particular about what substances can permit through it,it is called permeable
(selectively) where liquids and gasses can flow through. Permeability defines the affluence with
which substances can permit through a border, for example, a cell membrane. Permeable resources
that furthermost substances can simply across through the membrane. Impermeable defines that
substances are not allowed across through the membrane.Semipermeable or Selectively defines that

The Pros And Cons Of A Moralist Society
First, we must understand what a pluralist society is. A pluralistic society is a diverse one, where
the people in it believe all kinds of different things and tolerate each other s beliefs even when
they don t match their own. (Vocabulary.com). Today I m here tell you the positive of pluralist
system. Especially from books of the Federalist 10 and on the use that Americans Make of
Association in Civil Life. I will now critically evaluated these books. In hopes to show how
positive this system of society is.
In the federalist papers number ten James Madison main concern is that of factions. Madison
feared not the wealthy or powerful but the poor. This partly from shays rebellion he feels this
way because the rich are small and exclusive to one another but poor are one of many. You can
relate this to many situations in America. One of these the examples is players strike in NFL as
they felt they were not getting paid equally enough for enduring the hard seasons in the football
league the owners had come gather and pay the players. Kind of like shays rebellion.
Among the laws that rule human societies there is one that seems more precise and clearer than
all the others. In order that men remain civilized or become so, the art of associating must be
developed and perfected among them in the same ratio as equality of conditions increases.
Tocqueville). This positive in my eyes because people are able to come as one as a society. This

The creation of the V 2 rocket was a very important and impactful invention by the German.
There have been many cultural and social factors related to the creation of this rocket seeing
how it was built during World War 2. The creation of this rocket has also made a huge impact on
the U.S. and their aerospace field. There were many cultural factor in the development of the
V2, one of those factors was that the Nazis party believed that Germans were the pinnacle of the
human race, the Aryan race; thus, planning to instill fear into their enemies the development of
the V2, a long range ballistic missiles, came to be. (Edward, 2011) The V2 was supposed to
bombard England but was delayed until 1944 which at this point England had already been
bombarded for over four years by conventional artillery. (Edward, 2011) Another cultural factor
that played into the development of the V2 was the recession that afflicted Germany prior to the
World War. The recession was one of the major reasons that led to the rise of Nazi party in
Germany and the war that followed. It can be argued that if Germany did not experience a
recession, there would not have been a world war or a need to develop the V2.... Show more content

Synthesis Essay On Blue
A Mixture of Blue and Green: Turquoise
Turquoise: a simple adjective describing something of a greenish blue pigment. The absolutely
normal color has much more meaning behind itself than what meets the eye. The hybrid color of
blue and green serves as a representation of myself. Symbolically, blue inhabits the peaceful and
tranquil side to turquoise. Green, the envious and diplomatic side to turquoise. By themselves blue

and green mix to form turquoise they balance each other out to display an exceptional
representation of myself. Blue: an adjective representative of something of a cool and calming
display. According to psychology, blue acts as the friendly and genuine color. Blue describes my
more reserved and peaceful half. Blue can also be advertised as an authoritative color, but at the
same time, honest and sincere. Much like myself, I may have an authoritative opinion, but I
always try to react truthful towards the situation and sincere of my position. Contrary to the edgier
side of blue, it can serve as a display of reservedness and reliability. Blue can abide in comparison

Defense Of Skepticism
A Defense of Skepticism in the Epistemology of Testimony
This philosophical study will defend the premise of skepticism in relation to the epistemology of
testimony. Skepticism provides a more evaluative and complex response to the reductionist
acquisition of knowledge by rejecting any form of absolute knowledge. Reductionism provides a
holistic way to describe the functions of knowledge in theories proposed by Descartes, yet these
functions can be further reduced to more obscure or even non existent causalities. More so,
antireductionism is not a sufficient means of describing the underlying functions of knowledge,
since it seeks to define the absolute foundations of a system of thought in a non holistic manner.
This is why skepticism is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this form of rationalism, the process of discerning the parts of the whole becomes the method of
validating knowledge, yet these compartmentalized methods can also be falsely interpreted through
the senses. The skeptic would countermand this approach by arguing that the parts of knowledge
can also be false and/or/ non existent, because they have the same subjective qualities as those
found in the reductionist method. For example, Descartes might tell us that the existence of angels
would prove the existence of God. Angels are a subset of God s power in heaven, which would
assume that we do not need to directly prove the existence of God because of the existence of
angels. However, Angles are also subjective literary figures in the Bible, which defines why
antireductionist methods can be equally false. In this manner, Descartes argument about the
existence of the mind is based on personal opinions related to the bible, which an antireductionist
might utilize to validate an argument: A central Cartesian idea, then, is that we know ourselves and
our own thoughts and experiences best (Week 5: Rationalism Notes, p.1). Although an
antireductionist might disagree with Descartes holistic reductionism of the mind (and God s
existence), they might also, on the other hand, be convinced of the God s existence through the
existence of Angels.

Reflection:
Some of the key aspects of philosophy included metaphysics, logic, and epistemology.
Metaphysics is the study of existence. It answers the question What is? It includes everything that
exists, as well as the nature of existence itself. Metaphysics is the foundation of philosophy.
Without an explanation or an interpretation of the world around us, we would not be able to deal
with reality. Logic is the study of reason or the study of arguments. Logic constructs ideas so that
we are able to communicate certain concepts to each other by deducing them from a set of
premises. (Braley, 2003, p. 10) Epistemology is the study of how we acquire knowledge. It answers
the question How do we know? Epistemology is the explanation of how we think. It is required in
order for us to be able to determine the difference between true and false. Epistemology is
important aspect used to obtain knowledge of the world around us. Without epistemology, we could
not think, and we would have no reason to believe our thinking was productive or correct.

One of the main reasons alcohol conusmption is the third leading actual cause of death is
because it is accepted by society. Alcohol is sold at social events such as resturants, bowling

friends, alcohol is available to order, at a wedding with family there is a champagne toast, while
watching a baseball game there are people coming around selling beer to order, etc. The key in
this is that since it is accepted by society, it is used as a main drink when socializing. Alcohol
consumption is also based on ones behavior, and consuming alcohol would be a behavioral risk
factor. It is considered a behavioral risk factor because it is the cause leading up to many
different deaths in the United States as seen. It is hard to control ones behavior, because it is

Developing Private Label Between China And Uk Essay
In recent years, due to the change of own profit model, high inflation, increasing operating costs and
competition from online commerce, traditional retail businesses have grown slowly in China.
Chinese retail business, especially supermarkets need to be transformed and updated. Developing
private label brands is one of the most efficient ways to realise supermarkets transition and
updating, it could reduce costs and improve supply chain system. However, the development of
supermarket private labelin China is only in start up stage now which leaves plenty of scope to
learn from mistakes and successes from other businesses. The British retail market is the second
largest in Europe, and has the highest profit margins in the world. Its supermarket private label has
developed into a mature stage (Zhen, 2007). Since there are limited studies in the area of analysing
the gap between British and Chinese supermarket in developing private label, this study will help
to stop the gap in literature study of comparing the development of private label between China and
UK. In addition, it may predict the future developing trend of Chinese private label and benefit
Chinese supermarket managers on how to introduce more successful strategies of private label
products in further development on the basis of British experience.
The author chose this topic due to a personal interest on the development of supermarket, growing

antithesis to many of the original ideals of the revolution. Although Napoleon did give the
oppressed French some rights, he still went against the original idea of the French Revolution
which was to give every Frenchmen their natural rights regardless of their social class or gender.
According to the Napoleonic code divorce was made a little easier for women, but they still did
not have rights. Girls were also not allowed to go to school, while boys were allowed. Napoleon
censored the press from releasing negative articles about him which violated freedom of the press.
Napoleon further became an antithesis when he forced Germans to go into the French

Monica Ferrell s Of The Irresoubleness Of Diamonds
Monica Ferrell s, Of the Irresoubleness of Diamonds, Harmless, As Recalled by a Fairy Tale,
Gerburt des Monicakinds, and Beautiful Funeral each employ four different grammatical issues
such as attributive adjectives, finite verb strings, non finite verb strings, active voice and the
known new contract throughout her poems. By incorporating these grammatical issues into her
work, Ferrell intends to develop a clear and sharp image to ignite the imagination of her readers.

Active voice describes the sentences where the action or verb is occurring from the subject.
Furthermore, there are three examples of Ferrell as she uses several examples of active voice
throughout her poems. Ferrell begins her poem, Harmless as Recalled by a Fairy Tale by
recalling , After our rendez vous this is the last word he said, waving to me as the train pulled
away from the station (1 2), in this sentence the active voice she is conveying is through the
word waving. In this sentence the subject is the train and the action being done is waving. In
another example of her poem of, Harmless as Recalled by a Fairy Tale , she vindicates, Hunting
out clues, I went over the roses and snows of his departed face like a treasure map, over ( 15 16),
in this sentence the word she uses to convey active voice is through the word hunting. In this
sentence she describes how as she was departed from her lover, her world had come crashing
down and sets out a mysterious tone for the poem. In addition to the example of an active voice

Southern Colonies Political Analysis
Politics The politics of the southern colonies first began in 1607 during the founding of
Jamestown, Virginia. This was the first British colony in America and the new world. The
colonists sent to Jamestown were sent to the new world to attempt to make money and to try to
find gold for the joint stock company. The southern colony of Virginia started off as to being
governed by the Virginia company. What this meant is that until 1624 Virginia would be a royal
charter governed and controlled by the Virginia company. But, before Virginia would be
controlled by the king and the British colonies the first British assembly in the Americas took
place. The house of Burgesses in 1619 was the first representative democracy in the colonies. But
Virginia was not the only colony that at one point controlled by another group other than the king,
it is the colony of Maryland. Maryland was a proprietary colony giving its control to the calverts.

In Jamestown, Virginia the one crop that saved the town from complete bankruptcy was that of
tobacco. In both Virginia and Maryland their colonies were mainly based on single crop
economies, which was tobacco. Thus the tobacco industry would now become the big cash
crop. Since there was so much growth in the industry in both colonies this caused for a huge
need in labor making the colonies in much need of indentured servants and eventually slaves.
Now as for the other three colonies it was a very similar system. They were very reliant in a
single crop of economy which was mainly based on rice and eventually others like tobacco and
cotton. Also, in these colonies since they had so much needed for labor they resulted in the need of
millions of slaves. But all of these colonies participated in mercantilism which meant they sent
tobacco to England and received chewing tobacco in

My Favorite Place At The World Is The State Of Oregon
Oregon
My favorite place in the world is the state of Oregon. The reason for this being my favorite place
is because of how green and simply beautiful this place is. I have had the fortune of getting to visit
this state twice. I even took a train ride home from Washington through Oregondown to California.
I must add the scenery is seriously beautiful. I have never seen so many trees in my life. The name
Oregon means windstorm or hurricane. The reason they gave it this name is because of the
powerful chinook winds of the Columbia River that blows through this state. I also wanted to do
this place because they are known for their cheese and ice cream from the Tillamook brand. They
also have a lot of wild berries growing and have about 80 national parks you can visit. In Cannon
Beach there is the famous Haystack rock. Haystack rock is 235 ft tall and is home to wildlife. It
also has made great tidepools full of marine life. Crater lake happens to be the deepest lake in the
United States and the second deepest in all of North America. It also ranks number 9 in the world.
The way this massively deep lake was formed was due to the collapse of a volcano ,known as
Mount Mazama. Its max depth is 1.949ft. Oregon consists of 6 different areas. The coast, Klamath
mountains , Willamette lowlands,Cascade Mountains, Columbia Plateau , and the basin and range
region. The Pacific shoreline of Oregon is bordered by narrow coastal plains of sandy beaches,

The Trial And Death Of Socrates Analysis
In order to leave a memorable past, you have to learn how to stand tall for what you believe in.
Anyone who can be easily persuaded is not someone who cares to be remembered. The ones who
are always remembered are the ones who didn t follow the rest of the crowd. In the Trial and
Death of Socrates, Socrateswas brought up on false chargers and was still able to hold his stance.
For Socrates he thought he would think logically instead of like the others. However, at that
point it was frowned upon to think a different way. Socrates tries to use his own ideology and
make others see from his point of view. When he is put on trial, he uses good arguments to
defend himself. For example, when Meletus says that majority improve the young while the
minority corrupt it, but Socrates brings up a great point with horses and other animals. While
with animals the minority improve and the majority corrupt. (25B) During Socrates trial, a lot of
details cluing into a bigger picture showing how he is able to prove his innocence and also stand
up for what he believes in. One example, is him trying to focus the attention away from him being
a sophist. Socrates was not charging his student to learn his teachings. He was teaching from his
own will, not for a pay cut. Most of the leaders who start big movement do it... Show more content

Adversity in Life Elicits Unknown Talents and Strength Essay
Who we really are, what our real character is only truly elicited when we are challenged, as a
proverb states, In the darkest hour shines the brightest light. Our true character shines through when
we are pushed to our extremes and are placed in situations outside of the norm. Horace claims that
when someone is faced with an adversity or a challenge, they are more likely to discover talents that
they thought they never had. I agree with his claim that adversity breeds talents and strengthens our
character, but still understand the importance of prosperity in developing talents.
The modern world has an abundance of prosperity; many countries are now affluent. In these
prosperous circumstances talents stay hidden, but countries like Nepal, ... Show more content on

His experience is almost unfathomable, could you saw off your arm with a rusty pocketknife?
Without having faced this life or death situation Danny Boyle would have never known what

Adversity doesn t only elicit talents and shape character in extreme situations; many people s
first experience of adversity is found in school sports. Growing up I was part of eight SAISA

challenges that in any other situation I would have never come across. The most vivid situation
was at SAISA football 2013. We had just reached the final of the tournament and with a big
crowed at the pitch there was a lot of pressure, but that wasn t the challenge I would be facing.
Just five minutes into the match I came under a harsh headed tackle from an opposition player
and as a result I spilt my eyebrow open. At first it wasn t that bad, I tried to stand up but fell back
down, then I felt the blood drip down my face and roll into my ear. I was then taken to the hospital,

Analysis Of The Rocking Horse Winner By D. H. Lawrence
This story is D. H. Lawrence s strongest indictment of materialism and his strongest
demonstration of the incompatibility of the love of money and the love of human beings. In
Paul s unhappy family, his parents marriage is unsatisfactory. His mother is sexually frustrated:
She had bonny children, yet she felt they had been thrust upon her. Clearly, she feels not
fulfilled, but violated. The story addresses a few of the topics Lawrence is most outstanding for
well, some of them in any event. While it doesn t include the same unequivocal sexuality that
made Lawrence infamous in his day, much like Sons and Lovers, The Rocking Horse Winner
concentrates a considerable amount on the connection between a mother and her child. The
Horse Dealer s Daughter, Lawrence shows the recovery of a customarily English society through
a relationship between the town specialist and a young lady whom he saves from conferring
suicide. In this story, Lawrence surrenders the sentimental style that such a story would
commonly grasp by lighting up the profoundly clashing feelings of the two characters Lawrence
s enthusiasm for mother child connections mostly comes from his association with his own mom,
an informed lady who lamented her marriage to Lawrence s coal excavator father. Quite a bit of
her disappointed desire was exchanged onto her kids, and Lawrence s scholarly capacities were
developed under her care. Much the same as Lawrence s own particular experience growing up, The

Speech On The Ozone Layer
1) The ozone layer is a layer of ozone high up in the Earth s atmosphere stratosphere. The word
ozone means smelly in Greek because the gas has a strong odor. The ozone layer was discovered
in 1913 by the French physicists Charles Fabry and Henri Buisson. Ozone is created in the
stratosphere when high energy UV radiation causes on O2 molecule to split. The free oxygen
atoms collide and react with other O2 molecules to form O3. The exact amount of ozone that can
be found varies, the seasons influence it; it is also different in different places on the Earth. This
layer can absorb between 93 and 99 per cent of the ultraviolet radiation from the sun. This radiation
is dangerous to many living organisms on Earth. However, due to its high reactivity,... Show more

These are compounds used for refrigerants, fire extinguishers, and aerosol propellants. CFCs
were invented in the 1920s and were originally thought to be environmentally friendly, but time
proved otherwise. CFCs are very stable and do not dissolve in rain. Thus, there are no natural
processes that remove the CFCs from the lower atmosphere. Over time, winds drive the CFCs
into the stratosphere. The CFCs are so stable that only exposure to strong UV radiation breaks
them down. When that happens, the CFC molecule releases atomic chlorine. One chlorine atom
can destroy over 100,000 ozone molecules. The net effect is to destroy ozone faster than it is
naturally created. In 1974, two scientists named Sherwood Rowland and Mario Molina were able
to demonstrate how CFCs were splitting ozone molecules into atmospheric oxygen and chlorine
monoxide molecules, and this work earned them the 1995 Nobel Prize in chemistry. Their research
helped put new policy into motion, and by 1979, the U.S. and other countries had banned CFCs in
aerosol sprays, but not for other

Evaluating Hamlet s Relevance
Evaluation In order for a text to be relevant it must be: easily accessible; have an influential,
universal theme; and the characters and message need to be relatable to modern society. I
believe that while the criteria is no one hundred percent true for Hamlet, he is still relevant to
read. While the characters are outdated in modern society, the theme is universal and applicable
today. Finally, all of his work can be found online for free. For a work to be relevant today, it
must first be easily accessible. If a work is not easily accessible, then it causes disparities in who
can and cannot read it. Relevance relies on the fact that the text applies to modern times, however,
if not everyone has access to the material in order to determine... Show more content on

When people can relate to the characters and message of a text, then they are able to learn from
it. When neither of these two things are applicable to their lives it makes it nearly impossible for
people to internalize them making there no point in reading the text in the first place. Frankly,
the backgrounds of the characters in Hamlet are not very relatable. All of these characters are
based off of the Third Book of the Historia Danica of Saxo Grammaticus. The book conveys the
aspect of life of medieval life, specifically Denmark. It s hard modern day people to imagine what
it s like living in a time where there are not any cars, no Whole Foods, let alone any electricity.
However, one of the main things that people can assimilate with are the social classes discussed
throughout the novel. Both now and one thousand years ago there were social classes, that
certain people fell into. While the majority of Hamlet depicts life of the rich around a castle,
there are still aspects that appeal to all social classes. These social classes allow people to draw
parallels between the play and aspects of their lives. This further allows people to better relate to
the characters. While the characters of Hamlet at first glance may not be the easiest people to
compare a modern person s life to, the message of the play is very visible and

Dental Implants Argumentative Essay
Losing one or more teeth due to an accident or oral health issue can be challenging, so asking your
dentist about a dental implant is essential for restoring your smile back to a healthy, appealing state.
Unfortunately, most patients are not familiar with the fabrication, installation, and overall look and
feel of implants, so it is important to ask questions when consulting your dentist. Here are a few
things you should ask to ensure proper understanding before getting your implants.
Am I a Good Candidate for Implant Dentistry?
It is important to note that not every person is a good candidate for implants. Since the implants are
attached to the jaw, you must have a strong jawbone with adequate bone mass.
Placing the implants is an invasive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One common myth associated with dental implants is that you will have a complete set of beautiful
teeth after one appointment with your dentist. Unfortunately, multiple appointments are needed to
ensure the implants are appealing and natural looking, custom fitted, and secure.
After your dentist determines you are a good candidate for the implants, you will need to schedule
two procedures. During this first procedure, your dentist will make a small incision in the gums
where the implant will be placed. A hole is made using a dental grade drill and the titanium implant
rod is inserted into the hole. The incision is then stitched up.
The second procedure occurs after the gum tissue heals, which can be between 3 to 6 weeks. The
implant is exposed by making a new incision. Then, your dentist will screw a cap onto the implant.
Once the cap heals the gum tissue, your dentist will place the crown, or artificial tooth, onto the top
of the implant.
Are Implants Permanent?
While shocking for many patients to hear, your implants may not repair your smile permanently.
Certain conditions, such as improper oral hygiene, smoking, and using your teeth as tools to open
bottles or bite fingernails, can affect your

On The Run By Alice Goffman
In On The Run, Alice Goffman focuses on a particular group of young Black men living in a
poor neighborhood, struggling to live a good and fair life. These boys from 6th street are
segregated from resources that would be found in more economically advanced neighborhoods.
A resource that they do run into more than often is over policing in their neighborhood. As they
are disproportionately targeted for arrest to fill quotas, this constant behavior and events deemed
as a norm (even little children play a game about cops catching and being overly aggressive to
Black boys), hinders their process at advancing within American society. Systematic oppression
against a minority group slows and puts racial tension progress at a standstill, as they are
continued victims of larger forces. What truly works against them once locked up and released, is
that they were not given a chance based on race, now it becomes based on race plus their criminal
history. People in such situations are left with one option, in order for them to survive and provide
for their families, they must do it through illegal activity. Locking people up and returning then into
the same environment which had limited resources does nothing to solve larger powers at play.
Laws and documents may exist that describe an equal and fair society, but without action, words
seem to hold less value. The Declaration of Independence, and the Universal Declaration of Human
Rights, are both documents meant to symbolize

Comparing and Contrasting the Atkins and South Beach Diets
The weight loss industry is a multi billion dollar machine, perpetually fueled by not only new
information, but also data that have remained true for decades. Although it is unsurprising that
the human body will lose weight when it expends more calories than it consumes, new findings
lead to several alternative diets and weight loss methods that gain much more popularity than
the basic concept of eating less and exercising more. For several decades, the Mayo Clinic diet,
which was never actually invented or been approved by the true Mayo Clinic, has been used by
dieters as a way to quickly lose body fat. This diet suggested that by replacing one s daily
carbohydrate intake ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Carbohydrates, compounds made of carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen, are simple sugars derived
from the starch of plants, are converted into usable or tradable energy, glucose, by the body
quickly, resulting in a dramatic increase in glucose levels. Milk products and fruits consist of
simple carbohydrates, while legumes, grains, and vegetables consist of complex carbohydrates.
Proteins are complex molecules made up of amino acids that help in the regulation, structurization,
and functioning of the body. Proteins are found in meat and legumes and are utilized slowly, which
helps the body avoid producing unneeded insulin due to spikes in glucose. Supporters of both the
Atkins and South Beach diets claim that highly refined carbohydrates are the foods to blame,
which means dieters on either plan specifically avoid starches, cereals, and most baked goods.
Both diet plans instruct the user to replace the void left by the refined carbohydrates with fewer,
healthier carbohydrates, such as vegetables. By keeping the body s glucose level moderately
stable, the body does not need to produce unnecessary insulin, which eventually results in weight
loss. During the first two weeks of each brand of diet, the restrictions for each method are
relatively identical. Although users of either diet plan are not allowed to consume any type of
breads, rice, pasta, alcohol, or sugar, they

Bring Back Flogging
Bring Back Flogging This essay by Jeff Jacoby illustrates an authors use of ironic sarcasm
otherwise known as satire to defend and illustrate his platform on his position. Jacoby uses in this
essay verbal irony (persuasion in the form of ridicule). In the irony of this sort there is a contrast
between what is said and what is meant. Jacoby s claim in simple is he believes that flogging
should be brought back to replace the more standard conventional method of the imprisonment of
violent and non violent offenders. His grounds for the revival of flogging stems back to his initial
mention of the Puritan punishmentsystem. He cites how in 1632 Richard Hopkins was Flogged and
branded for selling guns and weapons to the Indians,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All this holds true assuming that public flogging serves it supposed purpose, and the terrible risks
of prison are a confirmed reality. When Jacoby in paragraph three states that today we are more
enlightened than our puritan forefathers where they used flogging we lock wrongdoers up in cages
, he is portraying a method of verbal irony (sarcasm). He continues his sarcastic voice when he lists
a criminal act and states that each punishment seems to be incarceration. His satire of the modern
day justice system is even more noticeable when he claims that prison is the all purpose, all in one
punishment. His final statement of the essay that perhaps the puritans where more enlightened than
we thought contradicts one of his initial statements concluding that we are more enlightened that
the puritans how we cage wrongdoers confirms his satire or verbal irony in his essay. The
question arises toward Jacoby s first reason for flogging. Jacoby s case for the overpopulation and
development of new institutions doesn t find favor in my eyes. Yes, the tax paying American is
paying for the prison system, but he also pays to employ many of the correction officers along with
the contractors who build and restore many of the institutions. Thus the

Taking a Look at Writs of Habeas Corpus
September 11th was a day that was burned into the conscience of the American identity. The
response of the Bush Administration was to launch a full scale military operation against terrorist
entities, in particular Al Qaeda and their foreign supporters. This series of operations, became what
was to be known as the Global War on Terror . Subsequently, the invasion of Afghanistan and other
military operations resulted in the capture of high value targets with known connections to terrorist
organizations. While these events this had dramatic ramifications on geo political landscape,
American courts were also given the unenviable task of determining if those captured by the U.S
government were entitled to the rights and privileges enshrined in the U.S. Constitution. The
Supreme Court in particular faced a particular set of problems in confronting this issue. Precedent
on the matter had been established over fifty years earlier under far different circumstances that
were unable to reflect today s modern challenges. Secondly, the Court needed to determine whether
they had the jurisdictional authority to accept writs of habeas corpusfrom detainees held in
Guantanamo Bay Cuba. Historically, Lincoln s unilateral suspension of habeas corpus during the
Civil War was the first instance in which the courts had a chance to review the indefinite detention
of citizens of the United States. The detention of John Merryman, a southern sympathizer who

Sulfate And Hydrate Lab Report
Introduction In this lab hydrates and anhydrous material were used to discover percent loss of
copper (II) sulfate pentahydrate and mass loss in anhydrous calcium chloride. Hydrates are
chemical compounds that have a discrete water molecules that are part of the compounds
crystalline structure. Anhydrous compounds have crystalline structures containing no water. In this
experiment, copper (II) sulfate pentahydrate was heated and loss mass, while the anhydrous
calcium gained mass. When heated, hydrates break bond with water and the water is released into
the atmosphere. Once the water in the hydrate has thoroughly evaporated, it becomes anhydrous.

After the copper (II) sulfate pentahydrate was heated the hydrate loss 35.16% of water. The
hydrate should have loss 36.08% of water after it was heated. The anhydrous calcium chloride
became hydrated after it gained .64% of water. As a result of the loss of 35.16% of water from
the copper sulfate pentahydrate, the anhydrous calcium chloride should have gained a higher
percent of water from the atmosphere than .64%. Evaluation: The percent error in the
experiment was 2.61%. The percent is low because most of the water in the crystals had been
driven off. A lower percent error could have occurred if the CuSO4 * 5H2O was heated more.
Suggested Improvements: When the lab experiment was conducted, the copper sulfate
pentahydrate was placed inside the casserole. If the casserole was heated before the hydrate was
place in it, then the water that might have been in the casserole prior to the sample being added
would not be included in the hydrate. Since the casserole was not heated, the result may have been
of a higher mass of water being loss. Another improvement that could be made to this experiment,
could be increasing the sample size to an average

  • 3. Targets of Satire in The Ultimate Hitchhiker’s Guide to... Targets of Satire in The Ultimate Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy Douglas Adams satirizes many targets in The Ultimate Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy. Adams came up with the idea for The Ultimate Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy in a drunken haze in Germany while he was lying in a field with the stars spinning over him (Adams, Douglas 12) which explains the style of humor, and the satirein the novel, which does not appear to make sense at first, but eventually does. Adams almost forgot about his idea for the novel (Gaiman 7). The Ultimate Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy satirizes many targets, but especially government and religion. The Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy began as an idea that Adams had, believe it or not,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Contrary to that fact of radical atheism, however, the satire of religion is generally mild. For example, God does exist, but His final message to the Universe is We apologize for the Inconvenience (Adams, Ultimate Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy, IV 665). However, other minor gods also exist, with Thor being a recurrent character. Another particularly memorable moment is when Zarquon, a Jesus surrogate character, returns to the Universe... a few seconds before the Universe ends (Galaxy, II 272), demonstrating how Adams believes that even if religions are correct, that would not change much. Finally, Adams satirizes religion very effectively with the in book device, the Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy Mk. II, which is a device which appears to be a bird, but has immense power. God indeed exists in The Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy, but that s about the extent of His powers. His entire involvement in the series is minimal. The opening words of one of the novels are In the beginning, the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people angry and been widely regarded as a bad move (Adams II, 176). So the first thing God does in the entire history of everything was a mistake, in Adams s eyes. Next, when God sent Jesus, in the words of the novel, One man had been nailed to a tree for saying how great it would be to be nice to people for a change (Adams I, 18). So, according to Adams, God has almost no power to influence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Tax Credits Are Better Than Deductions Tax Credits Tax credits are better than deductions because they reduce your taxes dollar for dollar. For example, federal and state governments offer many credits for research and development, reducing energy usage, creating jobs and accommodating people with disabilities. We ll explore the topic further in the Special Business Deductions. In bad years, especially when you start a business and claim extra deductions, you might lower your taxes enough to qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit that lowers taxes for low to moderate income families. The Lifetime Learning Credit is worth 20% of up to $10,000 that you spend for post secondary education and training. The credit can take up to $2,000 off your taxes for fees spent on college courses, training classes and earning certifications. The American Opportunity Tax Credit returns the first $2,000 that you spend on college expenses for each dependent and 25% of the next $2,000 for a maximum credit of $2,500 per student. Special Business Deductions The federal government and many state governments offer various tax credits, incentives and larger Section 179 deductions for increasing energy efficiency, accommodating people with disabilities, removing architectural and transportation barriers to mobility challenged people and encouraging entrepreneurs to revitalize certain enterprise zones in some urban cities and areas where natural disasters have occurred. • 5. James Weldon Johnson s Poetry One poet, who s work has been relevant in the black community since the beginning of the twentieth century, is that of James Weldon Johnson. Spanning the Reconstruction period and the New Negro (Harlem) Renaissance, Johnson s work change as the time did. Yet, this does not mean that all the poems in each era were significantly alike. The Gift to Sing and Prayer at Sunrise are both poems the Johnson published towards the end of the reconstruction period. These poems are related in their modes and devices used, but have different structures. Moreover both poems use the same Black Arts patterns, but have differing messages intended for two separate groups of people . Despite the differences of these poems, they are both great examples of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because both poems were written doing the Reconstruction, they were both forms of encouragement. Yet, The Gift to Sing is encouraging the audience to look inwards to find their source of hope and courage. Phrases such as in my throat, and in my heart reveal this. Prayer at Sunshine, on the other hand, makes pleads to the great Maker, and Great Father of the sun. This poem is instructing the audience to turn to God, or a god, because that is who will give provided joy and strength to make it through each day. Through these different messages, people would be able to find the exact type of encouragement that they needed. The works of James Weldon Johnson are ones that are still as important to day, just as they were in 1917. The Gift to Sing and Prayer at Sunrise, are just two of Johnson s pieces that live on because of their messages of inspiration. Coupled with their dual use of the same patterns, devices, and related modes, these poems may not seem to be that different. • 6. Fast Tracking Design And Construction Phases Essay Fast Tracking Design and Construction Phases. The implementation phase of the Chunnel Tunnel was rife with risks and issues as the project team opted to fast track the design and construction phases of the project (Anbari, et al.,2005, p. 12). Fast tracking is described by the Project Management Institute (2013, p. 540) as a schedule compression technique in which activities or phases normally done in sequence are performed in parallel for at least a portion of their duration. Typically, project teams use this technique in hopes of shortening the delivery timeframe with the knowledge that this approach makes the project susceptible to additional risks (Anbari, et al.,2005, p. 10). The Chunnel Tunnelproject team chose to fast track overlap the execution of these two phases due to schedule delays and cost overruns in previous phases. For the project team, compressing the construction time was crucial to ensure that the project objectives would be completed. In time, banks and private investors recognized the incremental risks associated with continuous delays and began weighing in on project decisions to minimize risks (Anbari, et al.,2005, p. 9). Financial stakeholders expected a return on investment (ROI) and the project team allowed them to have too much control when recommending risk mitigation strategies (Anbari, et al.,2005, p. 9). Thus, subcontractor contracts were changes to fixed price contract and later resulted in a contractor claim (Anbari, et al.,2005, p. 9). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Semiautomatic Firearms A Gun Is A Gun Is A Gun Right? You have seen the articles, the top 20 firearms all Preppers need, or the five best self defense handguns, or here is a list of the best rifles or shotguns for home defense and the lists go on. Confusing, and you probably did not learn anything, and you may feel somewhat slighted, because you do not have any of the guns that the so called expert was stating emphatically that you need. It is not the firearm, but the person using it, and then the reason that person wants a firearm that is the deciding factor. Let s face it; any firearm that can put a round downrange is better than throwing a lamp at someone. Do you know how to decide? From a purely mechanical and technological standpoint, today s semiautomatic pistols are superior. Not too long ago if someone mentioned handguns you automatically thought revolver. The ever steadfast revolver, while they differ somewhat, the mechanics have remained the same throughout the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is a reason however, why most militaries around the world carry semiautomatic pistols and not revolvers and many in law enforcement carry them as well. Keep in mind some semiautomatics are Double Action (DA) and Single Action (SA). Once a round is chambered from the slide action, the hammer is back. From this point you can de cock it to make it double action or leave the hammer back for single action. After the first round subsequent shots are of course single action, because the slide is forced back to eject a shell cocking the firearm each time. The revolver is not going anywhere, because people grew up with them, it may have been for many their first handgun that was handed down. They do have advantages over semiautomatics and there are disadvantages as well. You do not have to choose, because you can have both as long as you become proficient in their use. • 8. Descriptive Essay About Snow Angel Snow Angel Once upon a time, there lived a girl named Angelina whose dream was to have a chance at seeing the world and the seven wonders it held. Perhaps, someday, she sighed, looking out her bedroom window. For now, the one room apartment her family shared with her and someday were enough. For years, it seemed it would always be. But, one day, on her way back home from buying salt from the market, a goblin appeared and strolled up to Angelina. He had a smug walk and a smile that carried malicious intent. Using his charisma, he proposed a bargain. Suddenly, enough was insufficient. Goblins were not to be trusted, especially those that made deals . . . but, a world of infinite wonders for a morsel of salt seemed generous too generous. That s what she said when he asked, but his wild tales about the ecstasy of joy he could gift to her intrigued her. The goblin began to bounce around, and the grin on his face made Angelina envious. So, you re turning down the mere proposition of absolute happiness compared to your dull and mundane life because . . . the fairy tales tell you goblins play tricks? he questioned. You re smarter than that, aren t you? I. . . . Angelina didn t know what to say. You haven t got much time to decide, dearie. • 10. Is Data A Person Is Data a Person? According to Daniel Dennett, there are six factors a being must meet to be considered a person, regardless if they are human or not. The six factors are: rationality, conscious mental state and intentionality, verbal communication, self consciousness, subject of a special stance or attitude, and reciprocating this person regarding stance. Within the single episode, The Measure Of A Man, Data proved to be able to meet all these requirements, thus making him a person. The first factor, rationality, Data shows throughout the episode. He rationalizes during the poker game, he rationalizes when he decides to resign, even when he agrees to the trial. During the poker game he rationalizes what to do next, whether to fold or raise. Then later on in the episode, data was being forcefully transferred, he was told he could avoid this situation by resigning. Gilgamesh Essay Topical Essay 1 The story of Gilgamesh depicts all of the heroic triumphs and heart breaking pitfalls a heroic narrative should depict to be able to relate to today s audience. However, Gilgamesh was once considered a lost and forgotten piece of literature for thousands of years, so there is a tremendous gap between the time it was created and the time it was translated into language that today s audience can understand. That gap in history makes several aspects of the story of Gilgamesh strange and unfamiliar because what we now know about ancient Middle Eastern cultures and languages is a lot less than what we know about the cultures that prospered after ancient Middle Eastern cultures. The prostitute seduced Enkidu and taught him how to function properly in human society. The prostitute also played a major role in Enkidu and Gilgamesh becoming friends because she led Enkidu to Uruk, which was the place Gilgamesh ruled. The way the story of Gilgamesh ended was a bit strange to me as well because typical heroic narratives end in heroism and triumph. In the story of Gilgamesh Gilgamesh doesn t reach his goal of attaining eternal life at the end, instead he fails miserably and meets the inevitable fate of death. I expected him to overcome the tremendous odds that were stacked against him and victoriously become immortal. Today s audience is used to the hero overcoming what most consider impossible at the end of a story. Although I found the story of Gilgamesh to be somewhat strange it contained several familiar elements that are prevalent in many heroic tales from the past and present. One familiar element was what some people refer to as the under dog factor. Gilgamesh and Enkidu embarked upon the most grueling and epic journey of their lives just to find the vicious giant named Humbaba. The way that Humbaba was described in the story made you feel like there is no way possible he can be defeated. This makes the audience want to side with the lesser opponents because you can relate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While the companies are trying to reduce the distribution costs, to improve their own margin pressures, there seem to be little innovations in this area. The margins offered to the distribution channel members by most of the companies are fixed in percentage, which is directly proportional to the price of the product. Distributor s Cost: The above model does not consider the cost of running the business of the Distributor. Due to diverse nature of the Indian markets, cost of running a distribution business differs from market to market. Some markets may have higher concentration of retailers in few places whereas some markets offer scattered locations of retailers, thereby affecting the transportation cost. In highly populous markets, the speed of credit cycle may be high as compared to less populous markets, thereby affecting the working capital requirement. The congestion on the urban roads, distribution time, manpower requirement, average order quantity, etc. also need customized considerations. 3. Return on Investment: When the margins are standardized, the ROI calculation is totally dependent on the volumes of business. Executives often inflate the targeted volume of business to meet the ROI expectations of the distributors. Many times, such inflated targets are unrealistic and unachievable, resulting in loss to the distributor. This results in loss of trust and goodwill of the firm and higher attrition rate of the distributors. 4. There are however, other bouts of adversity that even children can relate to. One may have abusive or alcoholic parents, or even experience death at a young age. A little less than 80 years ago, World War II began and eventually the whole world was at war. Americans experienced many hardships, such as having their loved ones at war, financial troubles, and taking care of their families by themselves. Surprisingly, good outcomes could possibly develop as a result of over 60 million people dead. For one, the creation of the United Nations occurred right after the war. This is critically important to the world today because now everyone is at peace. Another result of the war was women now started entering the work force, and many gender roles disappeared because women were forced to do men s work while their spouses were at war. A Woman s Descent Into Madness Shayna Pospisil Professor Callis English 112 29 April 2015 A women s descent into madness Hamlet is praised as one of the greatest literary works ever written but unlike the title, many characters play key roles in the development of the story and his progression towards revenge induced madness. One such character is Hamlet s lover Ophelia. She is a pivotal character in the effectiveness as well as execution of the plot for revenge. One fact that is commonly short sited is the relationship Ophelia has with Hamlet and how that ultimately affects his road towards revenge. Without Ophelia there is no Hamlet. Ophelia s innocence, lack of knowledge and ignorance, and weakness of the mind all play a key role in not only her own but also Hamlet s demise. One of the most talked about subjects in the play itself is Ophelia s innocence of purity. Because Hamlet was going to Denmark a relationship with Ophelia would never work therefore her father felt the intense need to protect her innocence. Any kind of relationship would be detrimental to not only Ophelia but her family as well. If Ophelia were to lose her purity before marriage she would no longer be desirable to any other man because she would be used goods . That would reflect not only on herself but on her family. Another interesting point is just how protective her brother Laertes is of her virtue. In Act I, Laertes gives advice to Ophelia on the pitfalls of a pre marital relationship in a lengthy speech that s geared ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Typology is the taxonomic classification of characteristics found in buildings and urban places, according to their association with different groups, such as degrees of development, levels of formality, and thought processes. It stands to reason that 2 buildings with the same typology would have more similarities than they would differences. However this is not always the case. More often than not buildings with the same typology can differ greatly. Take for example the Bertram House and the Tubac House. These two buildings are both a house typology however they represent this same typology in varying ways some ways similar others vastly different. These differences have come about due to many influences such as style, lighting, form, spatial organization, plan of the building, school of thought, separation of private, semi private and public space, materiality, and focus of the building. This essay aims to theorize how buildings with the same typology can have such massive differences between them. Both Ashikaga bakufu and Tokugawa bafuku were new regimes when they promulgated these two legal documents. While at first glance, these two legal documents might seem to share similar attitudes toward frugality, in fact, they were different in nature. In this paper, I would like to compare Kemmu shikimoku (1336) and the Code for the Warrior Households (1615), by first closely examining the details of these two frugality laws and then speculating their motivations for issuing the frugality law. For instance, in Kemmu shikimoku, the author confessed that he had selected the teachings of Japan and China, past and present (Grossberg, 22). Likewise, at the end of the Code for the Warrior Households, it stated that This is the clear admonition of the wise men of old (Wm. Theodore et al., 14). Such references to history and tradition were necessary, since both Ashikaga bakufu and Tokugawa bakufu were newly founded, when Kemmu shikimoku and the Code for the Warrior Households were issued respectively. While both regimes solidified their legitimacy by embracing the history, their fundamental governing ideologies had changed. On the one hand, the authors of Kemmu shikimoku still regarded virtue as the most important thing for the government. It said in Kemmu shikimoku that The [Chinese] classics say that virtue is good government, and government rests in the security of the people. Even if the events narrated in the poem take place in Denmark, the poem was transmitted by oral language between the anglo saxon even 200 years after its creation. Anglo saxons did not consider themselves british, but vikings, and their heroes were always from Scandinavia. The author of Beowulf is anonymous. The original poem was written on sheep tanned leather. Beowulf is not only the story of a young man that gains glory against monsters or of an old king that dies fighting a dragon, but it is the story of a brave man who, once young and invincible, chooses to fight against the dragon though he knows that he s going to have a tragic end. Beowulf meets all the features of an epic poem: it is a long narration of a national hero ( he is recognized, rewarded and glorified by the king himself and his people), his travel on the sea, his adventures and the heroic episodes he s the central figure in. Moreover, the main protagonist, Beowulf, is a brave young man, like Gilgamesh, Achilles or Hercules, with more than human strength and wiser, more courageous than others. Unlike the other epic heroes we have studied untill now, Beowulf is giving us a detailed self description when he meets the king : In my youth I have done many glorious deed. Skepticism provides a more evaluative and complex response to the reductionist acquisition of knowledge by rejecting any form of absolute knowledge. Reductionism provides a holistic way to describe the functions of knowledge in theories proposed by Descartes, yet these functions can be further reduced to more obscure or even non existent causalities. More so, antireductionism is not a sufficient means of describing the underlying functions of knowledge, since it seeks to define the absolute foundations of a system of thought in a non holistic manner. This is why skepticism is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this form of rationalism, the process of discerning the parts of the whole becomes the method of validating knowledge, yet these compartmentalized methods can also be falsely interpreted through the senses. The skeptic would countermand this approach by arguing that the parts of knowledge can also be false and/or/ non existent, because they have the same subjective qualities as those found in the reductionist method. For example, Descartes might tell us that the existence of angels would prove the existence of God. Angels are a subset of God s power in heaven, which would assume that we do not need to directly prove the existence of God because of the existence of angels. However, Angles are also subjective literary figures in the Bible, which defines why antireductionist methods can be equally false. In this manner, Descartes argument about the existence of the mind is based on personal opinions related to the bible, which an antireductionist might utilize to validate an argument: A central Cartesian idea, then, is that we know ourselves and our own thoughts and experiences best (Week 5: Rationalism Notes, p.1). It includes everything that exists, as well as the nature of existence itself. Metaphysics is the foundation of philosophy. Without an explanation or an interpretation of the world around us, we would not be able to deal with reality. Logic is the study of reason or the study of arguments. The ozone layer was discovered in 1913 by the French physicists Charles Fabry and Henri Buisson. Ozone is created in the stratosphere when high energy UV radiation causes on O2 molecule to split. The free oxygen atoms collide and react with other O2 molecules to form O3. The exact amount of ozone that can be found varies, the seasons influence it; it is also different in different places on the Earth. These boys from 6th street are segregated from resources that would be found in more economically advanced neighborhoods. A resource that they do run into more than often is over policing in their neighborhood. As they are disproportionately targeted for arrest to fill quotas, this constant behavior and events deemed as a norm (even little children play a game about cops catching and being overly aggressive to Black boys), hinders their process at advancing within American society. Systematic oppression against a minority group slows and puts racial tension progress at a standstill, as they are continued victims of larger forces. For several decades, the Mayo Clinic diet, which was never actually invented or been approved by the true Mayo Clinic, has been used by dieters as a way to quickly lose body fat. This diet suggested that by replacing one s daily carbohydrate intake ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Carbohydrates, compounds made of carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen, are simple sugars derived from the starch of plants, are converted into usable or tradable energy, glucose, by the body quickly, resulting in a dramatic increase in glucose levels. Milk products and fruits consist of simple carbohydrates, while legumes, grains, and vegetables consist of complex carbohydrates. Proteins are complex molecules made up of amino acids that help in the regulation, structurization, and functioning of the body. Proteins are found in meat and legumes and are utilized slowly, which helps the body avoid producing unneeded insulin due to spikes in glucose. Supporters of both the Atkins and South Beach diets claim that highly refined carbohydrates are the foods to blame, which means dieters on either plan specifically avoid starches, cereals, and most baked goods. Both diet plans instruct the user to replace the void left by the refined carbohydrates with fewer, healthier carbohydrates, such as vegetables. By keeping the body s glucose level moderately stable, the body does not need to produce unnecessary insulin, which eventually results in weight loss. During the first two weeks of each brand of diet, the restrictions for each method are relatively identical. Although users of either diet plan are not allowed to consume any type of breads, rice, pasta, alcohol, or sugar, they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Bring Back Flogging Bring Back Flogging This essay by Jeff Jacoby illustrates an authors use of ironic sarcasm otherwise known as satire to defend and illustrate his platform on his position. Jacoby uses in this essay verbal irony (persuasion in the form of ridicule). In the irony of this sort there is a contrast between what is said and what is meant. Jacoby s claim in simple is he believes that flogging should be brought back to replace the more standard conventional method of the imprisonment of violent and non violent offenders. His grounds for the revival of flogging stems back to his initial mention of the Puritan punishmentsystem. He cites how in 1632 Richard Hopkins was Flogged and branded for selling guns and weapons to the Indians,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All this holds true assuming that public flogging serves it supposed purpose, and the terrible risks of prison are a confirmed reality. When Jacoby in paragraph three states that today we are more enlightened than our puritan forefathers where they used flogging we lock wrongdoers up in cages , he is portraying a method of verbal irony (sarcasm). He continues his sarcastic voice when he lists a criminal act and states that each punishment seems to be incarceration. His satire of the modern day justice system is even more noticeable when he claims that prison is the all purpose, all in one punishment. His final statement of the essay that perhaps the puritans where more enlightened than we thought contradicts one of his initial statements concluding that we are more enlightened that the puritans how we cage wrongdoers confirms his satire or verbal irony in his essay. The question arises toward Jacoby s first reason for flogging. Jacoby s case for the overpopulation and development of new institutions doesn t find favor in my eyes. Yes, the tax paying American is paying for the prison system, but he also pays to employ many of the correction officers along with the contractors who build and restore many of the institutions. Thus the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Taking a Look at Writs of Habeas Corpus September 11th was a day that was burned into the conscience of the American identity. The response of the Bush Administration was to launch a full scale military operation against terrorist entities, in particular Al Qaeda and their foreign supporters. This series of operations, became what was to be known as the Global War on Terror . Subsequently, the invasion of Afghanistan and other military operations resulted in the capture of high value targets with known connections to terrorist organizations. While these events this had dramatic ramifications on geo political landscape, American courts were also given the unenviable task of determining if those captured by the U.S government were entitled to the rights and privileges enshrined in the U.S. Constitution. The Supreme Court in particular faced a particular set of problems in confronting this issue. Precedent on the matter had been established over fifty years earlier under far different circumstances that were unable to reflect today s modern challenges. Secondly, the Court needed to determine whether they had the jurisdictional authority to accept writs of habeas corpusfrom detainees held in Guantanamo Bay Cuba. Historically, Lincoln s unilateral suspension of habeas corpus during the Civil War was the first instance in which the courts had a chance to review the indefinite detention of citizens of the United States. The detention of John Merryman, a southern sympathizer who petitioned for review under ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Sulfate And Hydrate Lab Report Introduction In this lab hydrates and anhydrous material were used to discover percent loss of copper (II) sulfate pentahydrate and mass loss in anhydrous calcium chloride. Hydrates are chemical compounds that have a discrete water molecules that are part of the compounds crystalline structure. Anhydrous compounds have crystalline structures containing no water. In this experiment, copper (II) sulfate pentahydrate was heated and loss mass, while the anhydrous calcium gained mass. When heated, hydrates break bond with water and the water is released into the atmosphere. Once the water in the hydrate has thoroughly evaporated, it becomes anhydrous. Purpose The purpose of this lab was to calculate the percent of water mass the copper (II)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After the copper (II) sulfate pentahydrate was heated the hydrate loss 35.16% of water. The hydrate should have loss 36.08% of water after it was heated. The anhydrous calcium chloride became hydrated after it gained .64% of water. As a result of the loss of 35.16% of water from the copper sulfate pentahydrate, the anhydrous calcium chloride should have gained a higher percent of water from the atmosphere than .64%. Evaluation: The percent error in the experiment was 2.61%. The percent is low because most of the water in the crystals had been driven off. A lower percent error could have occurred if the CuSO4 * 5H2O was heated more. Suggested Improvements: When the lab experiment was conducted, the copper sulfate pentahydrate was placed inside the casserole. If the casserole was heated before the hydrate was place in it, then the water that might have been in the casserole prior to the sample being added would not be included in the hydrate. Since the casserole was not heated, the result may have been of a higher mass of water being loss. Another improvement that could be made to this experiment, could be increasing the sample size to an average ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
