Health Care Marketing Reflection Essay
Health Care Marketing Reflection Essay
Markets change, tastes change, so the companies and the individuals who choose to compete in
those markets must change. ( Wang, n.d. as cited by Morrison, p. 113). In modern medicine, disease
treatment is more importance than disease prevention, as doctors focus more on treatment of
symptoms of rather than determining its root cause. This is mirrored in the media by the large
numbers of direct consumer advertisements aimed at persuading patients themself to ask their
doctors about various drug. Direct consumer marketing in the health care industry is allowed in the
USA. The health care industry includes numerous subdivisions devoted to make available health
care services and products. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is true that the patients are more willing to discuss their symptoms as they saw those symptoms
referred in the advertisements, but this does not improve the patient communication, as most of the
patients are only interested in asking for a prescription as advertised with barely any information of
the relevant medical facts. The doctors when asked for a specific prescription may give it to the
patient, rather than talk more about the condition leading to over medicated and unhealthy society.
Not enough lashes? Ask your doctor about LATISSE the first and only FDA approved treatment
that grows lashes longer, fuller and darker. (Allergan, Inc. 2010). The commercial featuring Brooke
Shields, a celebrity urging customers to use Latisse to grow fuller lashes. Sometimes the consumer
does not even look at the side effect; if it s good for the celebrity it is good for them. Advertisements
like these use strategies that generate false impressions, manipulate, and lead on consumers instead
of enlightening them about the drug.
Most advertisements are impractical in representing medicines part in attaining health, downplaying
drug risks, presenting visual elements to distract consumers like an antihistamine commercial
showing a moving buzzing bee as the risk information is read. Various advertisements show people
reclaim full control of their lives after consuming the drug. The advertisements do

Corruption In Lance Armstrong s Tour De France
Lance Armstrong was the greatest cyclist of all time that is until he was stripped from all his
winnings. Armstrong won Tour de France for seven consecutive years. First winning the
competition in 1999 and ending his streak in 2005. Armstrong became a major sports figure for not
only winning Tour de France, but also winning his fight against cancer. He seemed like the ideal
athlete, humble, caring, and compassionate. Armstrong also founded his own organization for the
battle against cancer, currently known as LiveStrong. Armstrong had everything going for him that
is until he was involved in a major scandal. In 2013 Armstrong admitted to using blood doping and
other illegal banned drugs to help him win Tour de Francethroughout the years. The media went
bizarre on hearing the news, and everything went downhill for him. Armstrong was erased from the
history books for having the longest consecutive winning streak in Tour de France. All his winner s
medals and achievements where stripped from him. Armstrong went from being the number one
cyclist in the world, to the most hated and unrespected cyclist. Even his cancer organization,
LiveStrong, suffered major deficits.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As of today there are several ongoing corruption scandals, ranging from the use of illegal
substances, bribery, and many others. Not only is corruption found in professional sports but it is
also becoming more evident in college sports and even in high school sports. We live in a world
where athletes are taught they must do whatever it takes to win, even if it means cheating.
Corruption in professional sports has changed the sports industry, creating an unfair and unloyal
sense of competition within different professional sports. It is presented in different forms today,
and stricter laws should be sanctioned upon corruption

The Government As An Intermediate Agency
The government is an intermediate agency which has the main, though by no means the exclusive,
responsibility for society s adherence to the principles which favour increased autonomy and
respect for people s choices.
When one thinks about the work of governments throughout history, they look like extremely
obnoxious, or at least dangerous, artefacts, for which the need, and, consequently, the conditions
and limits, require moral justification. The mere fact that the government prescribes something to
us does not morally justify our doing it (though it may prudentially justify it, and therefore, in
some cases it may morally excuse it). The decision to obey a government must be an autonomous
one one that, like any decision which can affect other people, we should justify on the basis of a
freely accepted moral principle. But if this is so, to what extent are we really obeying the
government and not simply governing ourselves? And if the moral person always governs himself,
what, for him, is the moral relevance of having a government (besides solving co ordination
problems or altering the factual setting)?
The era of wars and terrorism was followed by segregation, racial sub ordination, and complacence.

that the eugenics policies of the Nazi Germany should be adopted in the UK. In 1927 Westminster

How Is Propaganda Used In North Korea
Movies have become a powerful form of media used to sway a large audience. Not only is a story
told to the viewer, but an overall message is also portrayed through film as well. So it is no
wonder that in North Korea, the usage of movies to create propaganda films in order to project a

Confucian Analects And Ban Zhao s Lessons For A Woman
Though authored possibly centuries apart, the Confucian Analects and court historian Ban Zhao s
Lessons for a Woman have far more similarities than they do differences. The truth is that when
considered in the context of their societies, the two texts actually serve to complement each other,
and do so quite successfully. Technically written as instructions on maintaining order and progress
in government and society, the Analects are very widely directed (Bentley, Traditions and
Encounters, 101). While some of the text claims to be private conversations between Confuciusand
other men, the instructions and suggestions are universally applicable. As all of the teachings of
Confucius, the Analects are not meant to answer theological or spiritual... Show more content on

Ban Zhao begins her text utilizing a bit of her own advice. She humbles herself immediately in a
rather demeaning opening paragraph regarding her own educational background. The text
covers the three primary functions of women in ancient Chinese society: as unmarried
daughters, as wives and mothers, and their role in the preservation of spiritual matters. She
stresses the development of four womanly qualifications that include virtue, words, bearing and
work (Ban Zhao, Lessons for a Woman, 4). The basic virtues of women stem from (similarly to
the Analects) humility, and respect. A true quietness of spirit and mind, a lack of foolishness,
and an exhibit of modesty are required to demonstrate the true humility of a woman (Ban Zhao,
Lessons for a Woman, 4). She is also to possess a diligence in labor that surpasses those around
her; putting others always before herself. These traits are to be developed and displayed even
before marriage, as without them, how can her name be honored; how can [a woman] but bring
disgrace on herself? (Ban Zhao, Lessons for a Woman, 2). Humility is stressed at the foundation of

The Impact Of The Dada And Cubist Movement
The 1920 s became an iconic era in the world of art as it was a generation that revolutionized the
way art was defined all over the artistic and expressive world. The artistic elements of the Dada
and Cubist movements were combined and manipulated to form and create the Surrealist
movement, which was primarily rejected as an art movement due to its abnormality and synthetic
representation, but its iconic ideas and unique techniques paved the way for a new form of art
where artists developed a new, appalling and unique style of their own.
Surrealist artists would expand their minds further to welcome other depictions of reality which
inspired them to create visual representations of their subconscious mind. The works of various
artists, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While surrealism plummeted downwards with the coming of the Second World War, Cubism lived
on and continued its legacy in the world of art over many years which in turn influenced many of
the succeeding art movements and also helped to progress abstract art in its future.
During the Cubist era, another form of art was created, namely that of Dadaism(1916 1924), which
later on became a pillar to the construction of the birth of Surrealism. When looking closely at both
of these movements, both Dada and Surrealism were artistic, literary and intellectual movements of
the early 20th century and were a great contribution to, later on, define Modernism.
Launched in 1916 in Zurich by the poets and artists such as Tristan Tzara and Hans Arp, the Dada
movement represented and conveyed a direct reaction to the slaughter, propaganda, and insanity of
World War 1. Various independent groups that conveyed similar and common ideas about Dadaism,
did not share a universal style but were rather connected by their rejection of idealism and the
unchecked embrace of rationalism and

African Women In Colonial Society By Carol Berkin
Essays should have organized thoughts, an interesting writing style, and most importantly get the
attention of the reader. The essay, African Women in Colonial Society, by Carol Berkin was no
exception. The claims were well thought out and clear, and the essay definitely hooked readers in
with an anecdote that led into the story quite fittingly. She had three noticeable claims that were
major that she talks about in the essay, and that is the struggles of African women, moreso
compared to that of a man s, the silver linings that the women found, and finally the unity of the
Africans through common languages and religion. For one thing, women struggled with obstacles,
that men could not even have. Women took a major role in childbirth, but the malnourished, and
overworked women were not in the best condition to have children. Regardless they had many,
and that mean a lot of the women and their children would die during birth. They had about three
children in their lifetime, and only two would survive. Additionally, the laws back then had no
care for the wellbeing of the women. This led to awful laws that actually benefitted the men who
would rape and seduce women. Additionally, all of the adjusting they had to do after their arrival
really took a toll on them. Once they came to America after their brutal transport through the
middle passage, they had to immediately be accustomed to a new language, climate, food, and
culture. Once she was sold to her master, a lot of her

Pathophysiology Of Addison s Disease
Pathophysiology
Addison s disease is also known as Adrenocortical Insufficiency, which means the adrenal cortex
does not produce enough hormones (Understanding Medical Surgical Nursing, 2015). Addison s
disease occurs when the adrenal glands, above the kidneys, don t make enough hormones that are
essential to normal body functions (Understanding Addison s Disease, n.d.). The most common
cause of Addison s disease is due to the adrenal cortex being abnormally small or atrophied. This
causes the adrenal cortex to not produce as many hormones (Understanding Medical Surgical
Nursing, 2015). If the disease is primary, the pituitary gland may be sending out elevated levels
of ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone) to try to get the adrenal cortex to produce more
hormones. When the disease is secondary, the ACTH does not stimulate the adrenal cortex to
produce more hormones (Understanding Medical Surgical Nursing, 2015). Only 1 out of 100,000
people actually have Addison s disease; making it very rare. Addison s disease occurs in men and
women of any age (Understanding Addison s Disease).
Etiology, Causes, and Risk Factors
Some people believe that Addison s disease is autoimmune disease. They think the gland sort of
terminates itself. Diseases such as tuberculosis, AIDS, cancer, and fungal infections are thought to
cause the self destruction of the adrenal cortex. Hashimoto s thyroid and bilateral adrenalectomy
may also cause Addison s disease. Secondary Addison s disease

their way through high school and college because it s the trend of the century. They go out to

Underage drinkers risk their lives every time they decide to drink. In addition to, underage
drinkers manage to get themselves into a legal predicament when they consume alcohol.
According to, the Surgeon General s Call to Action to Prevent and Reduce Underage Drinking,
Underage drinking increases the risk of physical and sexual assault, and creates secondhand
effects that can put others at risk. Loud and unruly behavior, property destruction, unintentional
injuries, violence, and even death because of underage alcohol use afflict innocent parties.

Categories of Psychotherapy
An early designation of psychotherapies divided all types of psychotherapy into two major
categories: insight oriented therapy and action oriented therapy (Woolley, Wampler, Davis, 2012).
This designation was made on the basis of the therapist s main focus in achieving positive change.
An insight oriented therapyfocuses on assisting the client develop knowledge or awareness about
themselves as a major focus of change. The insight itself leads to positive change in the client.
Action oriented therapies directly focus on changing some behavioras opposed to relying on self
knowledge or awareness to facilitate the change. The designation is not mutually exclusive; in all
action oriented therapies some insight is gained and in all insight oriented therapies there is some
direct change of behavior. However, the designation is valid when determining the focus of the
therapist regarding the main target of the therapeutic intervention.
For example, Experiential Family Therapy attempts to facilitate change by means of a commitment
to increasing self awareness, self fulfillment, and expression or communication between family
members (Goldenberg Goldenberg, 2012). Clients are encouraged to examine their feelings, the
family cohesiveness, communication patterns, and reducing defensiveness and family members by
unlocking levels of experiencing and freeing people from impulsiveness and defensive reactions to
one another are the goals. The primary motor of change in experiential

A friend understands you, loves you, trusts you, respects you and is loyal to you. The epic of
Gilgamesh by SГ®n lД“qi unninni is a book about the friendship and adventures of Gilgamesh
and Enkidu. Gilgamesh is a powerful and mortal king in the city of Uruk who is a two thirds god
and one third man. However, he is not a good king, he is oppressive to his people until the creation
of the wild man Enkidu. Even his own people are against him and state, Gilgamesh leaves no son
to his father. Day and night, he rampages fiercely. This is the shepherd of ramparted Uruk,
Gilgamesh leaves no girl to her mother (SГ®n lД“qi unninni 47.111 114). In the poem, you can
observe multiple relationships but the one between Enkidu and Gilgamesh is the most important.
The two friend s relationship is a good thing because it s the main cause of most of Gilgamesh s
adventure to self discovery. As the king of Uruk, Gilgamesh who is demi god is supposed to be

White People Are Just American Essay
Americans are aware of the different cultures varying races, however, often deny the fact that
white people have their own distinct culture as well. Nevertheless, this odd and seemingly
harmless trend is actually dangerous because it allows people to deny white privilege. White
people are invisible in our society. They are seen as normal people, without a culture or distinct
characteristics. Comedian Trevor Noah noted how we call people of different races African
American, Asian American, and Native American, but we don t refer to white peopleas European

A History Of The World In 6 Glasses Analysis
From the first living creatures to modern day homo sapiens, we all have at least one thing in
common: the way that drinks affect survival, culture, and day to day life. Water is not the only
drink that humans have become, in a sense, reliant on over time, as shown in Tom Standage s
novel A History of the World in 6 Glasses . Standage states, other than water, that beer
, wine, spirits,
coffee, tea, and Coca Cola greatly shape the events of our world s history. Beer has been around
since the time of the hunter gatherers in Egypt and Mesopotamia, otherwise known as the Fertile

food, such as soup, and stored it for long periods of time. The first settlements

Cost of hardware: The relative cost of software versus hardware has changed substantially over
the last 50 years. When mainframes were expensive and required large support staffs, the few
organizations buying them also had the resources to fund large, expensive custom software
engineering projects. Computers are now much more numerous and much more powerful, which
has several effects on software. The larger market can support large projects to create commercial
off the shelf software, as done by companies such as Microsoft. The cheap machines allow each
programmer to have a terminal capable of fairly rapid compilation. The programs in question can
use techniques such as garbage collection, which make them easier and faster for the programmer
to write. On the other hand, many fewer organizations are interested in employing programmers for
large custom software projects, instead using commercial off the shelf software as much as possible.
The Pioneering Era
The most important development was that new computers were coming out almost every year or
two, rendering existing ones obsolete. Software people had to rewrite all their programs to run on
these new machines. Programmers did not have computers on their desks and had to go to the
machine room . Jobs were run by signing up for machine time or by operational staff. Jobs were

bazaar, and hotel, and was near the local District Center and Afghan National police station. The
site selected was on a plateau where two valleys met and was surrounded by mountains and low
ground, resulting in extensive dead space an area that cannot be visually observed around the
position. The Battalion s plan to realign within the Wygal Valley and establish a combat outpost at
Wanat was a two part operation called Operation Rock Move. The Concept of Operations covered
a 3 day period from July 8 10, 2008, and addressed the simultaneous disestablishment of combat
outpost Bella and the initial movement to and occupation of the site at Wanat, and included those
assets external to the Battalion required to conduct the operation. The Battalion wanted to

The decline of inventory turnover presents the incresed possibility of inventory obsolescence
which is likely to be assessed as higher business risk. In debts to equity part, the ratio in current
year is much higher than that of preceeding year, which means the extent of use of debt in
financing company is much higher than before. Pinnacle has used most of its borrowing capacity
and has little cushion for addional debt. This action brought high business risk to Pinnacle. In
addition, Pinnacle puchase more inventory in current year that that of preceeding year, and net
sales are increasing also compared previous year. However, the net income is decreased
significantly. These changes show expenses (maybe direct or indirect) have increased dramaticly.
The company uses more expensive materials and labors to manufacure and sell products.
f) To evaluate the material misstatement in the accounts, I think both of the consolidated income
statement and the three financial statements are useful. We need to use the information properly
from all the financial statements. However the consolidated income statement is the most useful
one. If there is a significant change in an account balance comparing with preceding two years, the
auditor will examine whether there a material misstatement exists. For instance, the bad debt
expense as a percent of net sales in 2011, 2010 and 2009 are 0.56%, 0.70% and 0.69%, respectively.

Meg Rosoff and How I Live Now Essay
Meg Rosoff, author of How I Live Now, used external and internal conflict as well as mood to
portray the theme, that together nothing bad can happen. Rosoff put together these elements in
her novels to teach her readers this lesson. Rosoff is described as a cross over writer and does
not reflect on the cultural dumbing down, where adults tend to lose themselves in a childish
fantasy where book sare written for the teenage group of kids. In Boston Massachusetts during the
late 1950 s Med Rosoff was born. Rosoff was born into the Ashkenazi heritage to her mother and

Rosoff s novel Just In Case was published. This novel, soon after being published, won a single

to hectic due to the soldiers, But no one was happy now, and there were a lot of stupid brave
country folk armed with duck hunting rifles taking pot shots at tanks and most of the time getting
slaughtered for the trouble (Rosoff 113). Finally at the end of the book everything goes back to
being quiet and content again, mainly because the war is over at that point. The major conflict of
How I Live Now is in the form of man verse society. Daisy, as well as her cousins, has to face
society. As they all are trying to

Uri Gurvich
Born in Israel from Argentine parents and now based in New York, alto saxophonist and
composer Uri Gurvich demonstrates a high level of maturity on his new outing, Kinship, the third,
and probably the most accomplished, of his career. Gurvich s previous works, The Storyteller and
BabEl, were released on John Zorn s Tzadik Records, and with them, he proved to possess the
remarkable ability to merge Israeli traditional folk elements with the hard hitting post bop current.
Kinship, a very strong and meaningful word, is associated not only with his roots and family (the
record is dedicated to his grandmothers) but also to his reliable longtime quartet, whose members:

Rich in colors and flying with a 6/8 Latin groove, Dance of the Г‘aГ±igos loses the initial Afro
Cuban feel when Genovese starts to improvise with a more bluesy feel. Afterward, as the rhythm
section sustains the pressure, Gurvich talks overtly, unveiling his sophisticated technique through a
well articulated phraseology. The piece doesn t end without a lively conversation between the
bandleader and the pianist as they start trading licks. They repeat the trading scene on Hermetos , a
vibrant homage to the Brazilian wizard Hermeto Pascoal.
A great part of the tracks on the album is heavily influenced by different cultures, roots, and folk
traditions. For instance, El Chubut is a politically charged, Latin infused vagary, featuring the
voice and words of the special guest, Bernardo Palombo, while Sasha Argov s Im Tirtzi is a
tender and popular Israeli love song that fits between a bolero and a jazz standard. Another song
composed by Argov, Ha Im Ha Im , is introduced by Slavov s bass licks and boasts the pugnacious
musicality of Genovese and Gurvich, who blow everything away with a kick ass attitude and
galloping resolution. Twelve Tribes , featuring Mela s chivalrous rhythmic charges in a vamp

Naturalism In Cythera
On looking closely at her sculpture it is seen that cupid s arrows are tied to her along with a
garland of flowers. These are clear connotations of love. Cupid can be seen sitting below the
sculpture with his quiver down almost as though nothing has to be done to bring love in that area.
He is seen tugging the skirt of the lady sitting near him, as though he is urging her to fall in love
with the man on her right, who seems to be trying too. On following the coupled figures down
towards the boat, is a conspiracy whether the boat bought the figures to Cythera or is taking
them to the island of Cythera. On closely observing the body language of the figures, it is
noticed how they get closer and closer towards a state of intimacy. As observed towards the boat
a couple is seen where the women is holding the man s arm of her own volition, she doesn t have
to be coaxed anymore. The progression of the figures almost looks like a form of dance. The
second figured couple hold hands similar to the dance form in the 18th century.

agree with the author when she says, There is a large portion of social media users who don t

teenagers are going around adding these apps on their phone without thinking about what could

that sometimes its harmless for them to post a picture but sometime that picture could let someone

The Cost Of Public Transportation In The United States
Amongst the many choices we have to make today, we also must make a decision on how we will

generally includes busses or trams for getting around town, and many large cities have commuter

they can only move much smaller groups of people at a time. Public transportation in the United

To sum it up, having a car is a very useful vehicle that offers many advantages. Public
transportation has high capacity, saves energy and its cheap, but is less comfortable and less

is somewhat expensive and produces more pollution on atmosphere than public transport. All in all,

What Was The Significance Of The 1832 Reform Act
The Passing of the 1832 Reform Act
During the early part of the 19th Century reform was placed low on the political agenda. This
was perhaps due to the Napoleonic Wars with France which showed people the damaging effects
war could have on the country. However, in 1819 the arguments concerning the reformation of
parliament came back into the public s conscious. The growing role of the media acted as a new
method of informing the public of their rights and the need for action. People were also being
made aware through public meetings held by radical MP s that favoured reform. It is therefore not
hard to see why in 1832 the Great Reform Act was passed.
Old Corruption was the name given to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some had been prosperous medieval towns but were almost completely depopulated but despite
this up to four MP s could be sent to Parliament from each area. These, as a result, became know as
rotten boroughs because they were giving a true representation of the people of England. It was the
large, industrial towns that needed this number of MP s in parliament but these often went totally
unrepresented.
In addition to this the actual elections were also false. Two thirds of elections were uncontested
because people could not afford to stand against the successful candidate. The election process was
not conducted on a single day but held over a number of weeks. The result might not be know for 2
months. There was no voting in secrecy. Voting took place on a platform amid an atmosphere of
drunkenness and sometimes violent intimidation. Corruption was rife in terms of treating, cooping
and the hiring of lambs. It is therefore reasonable that people called for reform in 1832.
The 1832 Reform Act was seen at the time to be a solution to an ongoing problem highlighted by
popular unrest. It attempted to correct the failings of Old Corruption whilst ensuring the elites in
society retained their grip on power. The Act consisted of two essential elements, the redistribution
of seats and the remodelling and systemising of the franchise. The Act released 143 seats that were

about Dr. Ransom, the main character, trying to defeat temptation, which are the evil forces. His
mission is to save mankind from the Black Archon. I think one of the author s purpose of the
book was to keep his trilogy series going and to start a new journey of the characters from the
first book in the series. Furthermore, I think he chose different planets to keep the story more
interesting, and entertaining.in the first book they were in Mars and then Ransom travels to

The Theory Of Atomic Theory Essay
Emily Elliott
Scientists who Contributed to Atomic Theory
20 September 20 What is Atomic Theory? Atomic theory is the theory that all matter is made up of
tiny indivisible particles called atoms. This paper will discuss its beginnings and some of the
scientists who made major contributions to how it is defined today.
Background
Since the earliest of times, scientists and philosophers have known that the universe is more than
just what it appears to be, but instead there is a deeper, more complex makeup beneath the surface.
The ancient Greeks called it the four elements 2, though some, like Democritus, believed that
everything was made of tiny indivisible particles called atoms.3 Later, however, with advancements
in technology, scientists such as John Dalton, JJ Thomson, Ernest Rutherford, and James Chadwick
were able to prove the existence of an indivisible particle with a dense, positively charged nucleus
consisting of protons and neutrons with electrons orbiting the nucleus.1 With this knowledge,
others were able to dig deeper, and discover so much more about atomic theory, such as Brown s
equation for the motion of an electron,6 Dirac s discovery of the positron,11 Fermi s research in
nuclear fission to create the atomic bomb,13 and Gell Mann s discovery of the quark.14 Each
discovery made by these men has shaped the world in some way or another, and even now more
discoveries are being made, but only because of the foundation laid out by those who set atomic

Analysis Of Euripides The Play Medea
The Greek playwright Euripides, who lived from 480 BC to 406 BC, had four victories as a
Tragedian. A third of the Big Three of tragedians, Euripides was, in his time, less successful than
both Aeschylus and Sophocles, who had 13 and 20 victories. Euripides writing was drastically
different from that of the others. While playwrights like Sophocles wrote characters the way they
should be ideally, Euripideswrote his characters truthfully and portrayed people as compassionate
and cruel and complicated as humans really are. In Medea, Euripides details the story of the play s
namesake and leads readers to question his motives as well as hers. In a society that values its
own and sees women as property, Medeademonstrates a confrontation of prejudices and the reality
of any conflict. To a Greek audience in 431 BC, Medea might not have seemed unordinary at
first. In the time of Medea, women followed the orders of men. When Jason leaves Medea, she is
supposed to quietly accept that he does not want her. Instead, Medea exacts revenge on Jason,
killing their two children, Jason s new princess, and the princess father. She can easily be seen as
wild with passion and vengeance, driven to murderous and filicidal deeds. However, Euripides
not only makes Medea a cruel, murderous character, but also one of much love and strength. He
defies the attitude Greeks had of women. In her article over Greek culture s influence in Medea,
Susanna Federici Nebbiosi described Medea as

work in developing regions allowed for a sustainable food source, reducing competition for food.
Providing a sustainable food source also allowed for the decrease in the average family size,
since families in developing regions no longer needed to have a large family to maintain fields.
This also allowed many countries to move away from subsistence farming, limiting the number of
people required to feed growing countries. As Norman Borlaug once said It was impossible to build

The Great Gatsby Freudian Analysis Essay
A Freudian Analysis of The Great Gatsby
Sigmund Freud, a psychological genius, created an entirely new system that dealt with the
understanding of the human personality. This technique, called psychoanalysis, consists of three
subdivisions. The id responds directly to his or her instincts, while the superego relies on his or
her sense of guilt. Lastly, the ego represents reality, or the balance between the id and superego.
In F. Scott Fitzgerald s novel, The Great Gatsby, the three levels of subconsciousness are ideally
filled by the main characters, Tom Buchanan, Jay Gatsby, and Nick Carraway. The id is not
affected by reality, logic or the everyday world, as it operates within the unconscious part of the
mind (McLeod). Tom Buchanan lived in his own mind. Listening only to his own instincts, he
proved to be impulsive and selfish. He knew what he wanted, and he would not give up until he
achieved his goal. Tom did not care about who he harmed by... Show more content on

Jay Gatsby adhered to society s expectations. He aimed at the goal of becoming his ideal self.
Gatsby wanted to gain the social position that he thought was necessary to win over Daisy s
heart. So he invented just the sort of Jay Gatsby that a seventeen year old boy would be likely to
invent, and to this conception he was faithful to the end (Fitzgerald 98). He even changed his
name so that he could start his journey creating his ideal self. He wanted to forget his gloomy
past. He did anything to work his way up to become a rich man because his conscience told him
Daisy yearned for him to be successful. Howes states, When Nick entertains Gatsby s requests,
Gatsby rewards him with friendship. This exhibits the fact that Gatsby listened to his conscience.
He felt like he owed Nick for his acts of kindness. He s afraid, he s waited so long. He thought you

Literature Review On Hbcus
LITERATURE REVIEW Background on HBCUs According to the National Center for
Educational Statistics (NCES), there are 101 Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Title
III of the Higher Education Act of 1965 defines HBCUs as ...any historically Black college or
university that was established prior to 1964, whose principal mission was, and is, the education
of Black Americans, and that is accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency or
association determined by the Secretary [of Education] to be a reliable authority as to the quality
of training offered or is, according to such an agency or association, making reasonable progress
toward accreditation (US Department of Education, 2017). It is important to note that unlike other
Minority Serving Institutions, HBCUs, are only one of two types of institutions (Tribal Colleges
Universities or TCUs are the other) federally designated by law and therefore, cannot increase in
number with an act of Congress (Li, 2007). In other words, every time an HBCU closes its doors,
we get one step closer to the elimination of the historical and consequential institutions. To
understand the significance of these institutions one must understand the context in which these
institutions were established. In the most basic sense, HBCUs were established because of racism
(Evans, Evans, Evans, 2002). Prior to the Civil War, few universities espoused the mission and goal
of training and education Black people (Albritton, 2012).

The Prevalence Of Domestic Violence
The prevalence of domestic violence in the United States is that it is occurring far more often than
many individuals would choose to admit. This form of violence is by no means new and culturally
the problem itself does not discriminate, there is no specific criteria that completely omits one from
becoming a victim of domestic violence. The dynamics of domestic violence consist of the
aggressor utilizing violence to maintain dominance and control over the victim. The victimization
that is consistent with domestic violence can come in various forms including, physical, sexual,
psychological, mental/emotional, and financial. Domestic violence victimization is a cycle that
usually is difficult to terminate by many victims as well as aggressors. Individuals involved in
abusive relationships continue to remain in them for various reasons such as, maintaining financial
stability, desire or hope that things will change overtime, fear that their abuser, will further harm
them for leaving the relationship, embarrassment of their situation, or there may be children
involved and the victims wants to avoid some of the harsh realities associated with a broken home.
Oftentimes domestic violence victims blame themselves for the violence encountered by their
abusers, figuring that if they do things differently the next time, maybe they won t be victimized
again by their partner. Conversely, violence committed by abusers is often self driven and hinges
on very minor actions executed by the

The And Structure Of Uk Construction Industry
In 1998, Sir John Egan identified five key drivers for change including integrated processes and
teams (Egan, J 1998). Egan noted significant changes required to the culture and structure of UK

J 1998). In a subsequent report issued in 2003, Egan suggested that the UK Office of Government
Commerce (OGC) recommends integration of the project team as an enabler of change. The
proposal from the OGC on the adoption of standard forms of contract that encourage such team

In Crimes Against Humanity (1993) by Ward Churchill the author s purpose is to persuade society
to make others see that the reasons for the sport s team s names are offensive, stereotypical, and
nonsense. Crimes Against Humanity is about how Churchill perceives certain things on certain

notation of fun embodied in rituals like the Tomahawk Chop must be understood for what it is,

Behavioral Techniques in the Classroom Essay
Behavioral Techniques in the Classroom
Very often, American parents complain that schools are disorderly and undisciplined. They claim
that their child s behavior has worsened and the child is using vulgar language. Teachers, however,
complain that students arrive at school lacking common courtesy and respect for authority. Because
of this, instruction time is wasted trying to obtain order (Bennett, et. al., 1999).
Student discipline is affected by classroom management. The way in which a teacher manages his
/her classroom delineates the type of instruction that will take place in the classroom. A classroom
in which the teacher takes total responsibility for guiding students actions comprises a different

The clearer the structure in the classroom, the more freedom the teacher can allow students (Slavin,
2003).
Classroom rules are important in the smooth management of classrooms (Wardle, 2003). Effective
schools ensure that parents and students know what is expected of them. Their written rules
clearly define acceptable behavior and the consequences for breaking the rules (Bennett, et. al.,
1999). Class rules should be few in number, should be seen as fair and make sense to students, and
be clearly explained and taught to students. Class rules should become second nature to students
(Slavin, 2003). Not only must rules be clearly presented to students, they must also be
implemented. Students need to know that there will be real consequences for their misbehavior,
not something that they will feel is not a big deal. The teacher needs to be the moral authority in
the classroom and it is imperative that school officials and parents back up the teachers decisions
(Bennett, et. al., 1999). Teachers who do not establish their authority in the classroom often spend a
lot of time dealing with misbehavior (Slavin, 2003). Good behavior should be recognized and high
academic standards maintained. Students must understand that good manners are not a choice but
a requirement; however, teachers and other adults need to teach the students the need for self
discipline. If students continue to be chronically disruptive, they should be taken out of class

restrictions like no listening to music, watching movies, dancing and not letting women go

She referred to the Taliban as vampires, It seemed to us that the Taliban arrived in the night just

There are critics of the concept of human security which claim that if all the components of well
being are included, the term will become essentially meaningless, as it permits the inclusion of
practically everything that affects any larger groups of individuals adversely.1
2.3.RELATION OF TRADITIONAL SECURITY AND HUMAN SECURITY
Human security is a very broad concept of security and has been developed in order to challenge
traditional security studies, after people realized that nowadays poverty, diseases, and natural
disaster are a much bigger threat to the security of people than war. However even though human
security has emerged as a challenge of ideas, human and traditional/national security are not
mutually exclusive concepts. Many people have argued that it is not possible to attain human
security without traditional security and the other way around.

When you think of surfing what comes to mind? Is it amp;#8220;yo dude, ; or the beauty of a

If we stick to this trajectory, Earth s oceans will have more plastic in them than fish by 2050.
Our ocean is in danger and we have to start helping so that we can still enjoy the ocean in our
future. There are many ways we can help. We can help by picking up beaches and keeping them
clean when we visit them, using less plastic products, and we can support organizations that help
out water even if we do not live in places that have access to the water. If we help out our ocean it
will not only help out us but also help out oceanic animals.
According to sun sentinel.com, Palm beach Florida had 112.8 million visitors last year. Just
imagine how many people visited the beaches all around the world and imagine how much pollution
was left behind by these people. To help the ocean as tourist we need to pick up our trash!
Almost all public beaches have trash cans to dispose of our trash and if not, we can bring

Health Care Marketing Reflection Essay Health Care Marketing Reflection Essay Markets change, tastes change, so the companies and the individuals who choose to compete in those markets must change. ( Wang, n.d. as cited by Morrison, p. 113). In modern medicine, disease treatment is more importance than disease prevention, as doctors focus more on treatment of symptoms of rather than determining its root cause. This is mirrored in the media by the large numbers of direct consumer advertisements aimed at persuading patients themself to ask their doctors about various drug. Direct consumer marketing in the health care industry is allowed in the USA. The health care industry includes numerous subdivisions devoted to make available health care services and products. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is true that the patients are more willing to discuss their symptoms as they saw those symptoms referred in the advertisements, but this does not improve the patient communication, as most of the patients are only interested in asking for a prescription as advertised with barely any information of the relevant medical facts. The doctors when asked for a specific prescription may give it to the patient, rather than talk more about the condition leading to over medicated and unhealthy society. Not enough lashes? Ask your doctor about LATISSE the first and only FDA approved treatment that grows lashes longer, fuller and darker. (Allergan, Inc. 2010). The commercial featuring Brooke Shields, a celebrity urging customers to use Latisse to grow fuller lashes. Sometimes the consumer does not even look at the side effect; if it s good for the celebrity it is good for them. Advertisements like these use strategies that generate false impressions, manipulate, and lead on consumers instead of enlightening them about the drug. Most advertisements are impractical in representing medicines part in attaining health, downplaying drug risks, presenting visual elements to distract consumers like an antihistamine commercial showing a moving buzzing bee as the risk information is read. Armstrong won Tour de France for seven consecutive years. First winning the competition in 1999 and ending his streak in 2005. Armstrong became a major sports figure for not only winning Tour de France, but also winning his fight against cancer. He seemed like the ideal athlete, humble, caring, and compassionate. In 2013 Armstrong admitted to using blood doping and other illegal banned drugs to help him win Tour de Francethroughout the years. The media went bizarre on hearing the news, and everything went downhill for him. Armstrong was erased from the history books for having the longest consecutive winning streak in Tour de France. • 6. The Government As An Intermediate Agency The government is an intermediate agency which has the main, though by no means the exclusive, responsibility for society s adherence to the principles which favour increased autonomy and respect for people s choices. When one thinks about the work of governments throughout history, they look like extremely obnoxious, or at least dangerous, artefacts, for which the need, and, consequently, the conditions and limits, require moral justification. The mere fact that the government prescribes something to us does not morally justify our doing it (though it may prudentially justify it, and therefore, in some cases it may morally excuse it). The decision to obey a government must be an autonomous one one that, like any decision which can affect other people, we should justify on the basis of a freely accepted moral principle. But if this is so, to what extent are we really obeying the government and not simply governing ourselves? And if the moral person always governs himself, what, for him, is the moral relevance of having a government (besides solving co ordination problems or altering the factual setting)? The era of wars and terrorism was followed by segregation, racial sub ordination, and complacence. One report written by senior civil servants in 1934 for the Department of Health actually suggested that the eugenics policies of the Nazi Germany should be adopted in the UK. • 9. Confucian Analects And Ban Zhao s Lessons For A Woman Though authored possibly centuries apart, the Confucian Analects and court historian Ban Zhao s Lessons for a Woman have far more similarities than they do differences. The truth is that when considered in the context of their societies, the two texts actually serve to complement each other, and do so quite successfully. Technically written as instructions on maintaining order and progress in government and society, the Analects are very widely directed (Bentley, Traditions and Encounters, 101). Ban Zhao begins her text utilizing a bit of her own advice. She humbles herself immediately in a rather demeaning opening paragraph regarding her own educational background. The text covers the three primary functions of women in ancient Chinese society: as unmarried daughters, as wives and mothers, and their role in the preservation of spiritual matters. She stresses the development of four womanly qualifications that include virtue, words, bearing and work (Ban Zhao, Lessons for a Woman, 4). The basic virtues of women stem from (similarly to the Analects) humility, and respect. A true quietness of spirit and mind, a lack of foolishness, and an exhibit of modesty are required to demonstrate the true humility of a woman (Ban Zhao, Lessons for a Woman, 4). She is also to possess a diligence in labor that surpasses those around her; putting others always before herself. These traits are to be developed and displayed even before marriage, as without them, how can her name be honored; how can [a woman] but bring disgrace on herself? (Ban Zhao, Lessons for a Woman, 2). The Impact Of The Dada And Cubist Movement The 1920 s became an iconic era in the world of art as it was a generation that revolutionized the way art was defined all over the artistic and expressive world. The artistic elements of the Dada and Cubist movements were combined and manipulated to form and create the Surrealist movement, which was primarily rejected as an art movement due to its abnormality and synthetic representation, but its iconic ideas and unique techniques paved the way for a new form of art where artists developed a new, appalling and unique style of their own. While surrealism plummeted downwards with the coming of the Second World War, Cubism lived on and continued its legacy in the world of art over many years which in turn influenced many of the succeeding art movements and also helped to progress abstract art in its future. During the Cubist era, another form of art was created, namely that of Dadaism(1916 1924), which later on became a pillar to the construction of the birth of Surrealism. When looking closely at both of these movements, both Dada and Surrealism were artistic, literary and intellectual movements of the early 20th century and were a great contribution to, later on, define Modernism. Launched in 1916 in Zurich by the poets and artists such as Tristan Tzara and Hans Arp, the Dada movement represented and conveyed a direct reaction to the slaughter, propaganda, and insanity of World War 1. She had three noticeable claims that were major that she talks about in the essay, and that is the struggles of African women, moreso compared to that of a man s, the silver linings that the women found, and finally the unity of the Africans through common languages and religion. For one thing, women struggled with obstacles, that men could not even have. Women took a major role in childbirth, but the malnourished, and overworked women were not in the best condition to have children. Regardless they had many, and that mean a lot of the women and their children would die during birth. They had about three children in their lifetime, and only two would survive. Additionally, the laws back then had no care for the wellbeing of the women. This led to awful laws that actually benefitted the men who would rape and seduce women. Additionally, all of the adjusting they had to do after their arrival really took a toll on them. Once they came to America after their brutal transport through the middle passage, they had to immediately be accustomed to a new language, climate, food, and culture. Once she was sold to her master, a lot of her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Pathophysiology Of Addison s Disease Pathophysiology Addison s disease is also known as Adrenocortical Insufficiency, which means the adrenal cortex does not produce enough hormones (Understanding Medical Surgical Nursing, 2015). Addison s disease occurs when the adrenal glands, above the kidneys, don t make enough hormones that are essential to normal body functions (Understanding Addison s Disease, n.d.). The most common cause of Addison s disease is due to the adrenal cortex being abnormally small or atrophied. This causes the adrenal cortex to not produce as many hormones (Understanding Medical Surgical Nursing, 2015). If the disease is primary, the pituitary gland may be sending out elevated levels of ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone) to try to get the adrenal cortex to produce more hormones. When the disease is secondary, the ACTH does not stimulate the adrenal cortex to produce more hormones (Understanding Medical Surgical Nursing, 2015). Only 1 out of 100,000 people actually have Addison s disease; making it very rare. Addison s disease occurs in men and women of any age (Understanding Addison s Disease). Etiology, Causes, and Risk Factors Some people believe that Addison s disease is autoimmune disease. They think the gland sort of terminates itself. Diseases such as tuberculosis, AIDS, cancer, and fungal infections are thought to cause the self destruction of the adrenal cortex. Hashimoto s thyroid and bilateral adrenalectomy may also cause Addison s disease. Secondary Addison s disease ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Categories of Psychotherapy An early designation of psychotherapies divided all types of psychotherapy into two major categories: insight oriented therapy and action oriented therapy (Woolley, Wampler, Davis, 2012). This designation was made on the basis of the therapist s main focus in achieving positive change. An insight oriented therapyfocuses on assisting the client develop knowledge or awareness about themselves as a major focus of change. The insight itself leads to positive change in the client. Action oriented therapies directly focus on changing some behavioras opposed to relying on self knowledge or awareness to facilitate the change. The designation is not mutually exclusive; in all action oriented therapies some insight is gained and in all insight oriented therapies there is some direct change of behavior. However, the designation is valid when determining the focus of the therapist regarding the main target of the therapeutic intervention. For example, Experiential Family Therapy attempts to facilitate change by means of a commitment to increasing self awareness, self fulfillment, and expression or communication between family members (Goldenberg Goldenberg, 2012). When mainframes were expensive and required large support staffs, the few organizations buying them also had the resources to fund large, expensive custom software engineering projects. Computers are now much more numerous and much more powerful, which has several effects on software. The larger market can support large projects to create commercial off the shelf software, as done by companies such as Microsoft. The cheap machines allow each programmer to have a terminal capable of fairly rapid compilation. The programs in question can use techniques such as garbage collection, which make them easier and faster for the programmer to write. On the other hand, many fewer organizations are interested in employing programmers for large custom software projects, instead using commercial off the shelf software as much as possible. The Pioneering Era The most important development was that new computers were coming out almost every year or two, rendering existing ones obsolete. Software people had to rewrite all their programs to run on these new machines. Programmers did not have computers on their desks and had to go to the machine room . • 33. What Was The Significance Of The 1832 Reform Act The Passing of the 1832 Reform Act During the early part of the 19th Century reform was placed low on the political agenda. This was perhaps due to the Napoleonic Wars with France which showed people the damaging effects war could have on the country. However, in 1819 the arguments concerning the reformation of parliament came back into the public s conscious. The growing role of the media acted as a new method of informing the public of their rights and the need for action. People were also being made aware through public meetings held by radical MP s that favoured reform. It is therefore not hard to see why in 1832 the Great Reform Act was passed. Old Corruption was the name given to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some had been prosperous medieval towns but were almost completely depopulated but despite this up to four MP s could be sent to Parliament from each area. These, as a result, became know as rotten boroughs because they were giving a true representation of the people of England. It was the large, industrial towns that needed this number of MP s in parliament but these often went totally unrepresented. In addition to this the actual elections were also false. Two thirds of elections were uncontested because people could not afford to stand against the successful candidate. The election process was not conducted on a single day but held over a number of weeks. The result might not be know for 2 months. There was no voting in secrecy. Voting took place on a platform amid an atmosphere of drunkenness and sometimes violent intimidation. Corruption was rife in terms of treating, cooping and the hiring of lambs. It is therefore reasonable that people called for reform in 1832. The 1832 Reform Act was seen at the time to be a solution to an ongoing problem highlighted by popular unrest. It attempted to correct the failings of Old Corruption whilst ensuring the elites in society retained their grip on power. The Act consisted of two essential elements, the redistribution of seats and the remodelling and systemising of the franchise. The Act released 143 seats that were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is the second book in the Space Trilogy , a science fiction account about Dr. Ransom, the main character, trying to defeat temptation, which are the evil forces. His mission is to save mankind from the Black Archon. I think one of the author s purpose of the book was to keep his trilogy series going and to start a new journey of the characters from the first book in the series. Furthermore, I think he chose different planets to keep the story more interesting, and entertaining.in the first book they were in Mars and then Ransom travels to Venus. The main theme of the book is warfare or good versus bad, because throughout the book ransom is constantly having to fight with dark forces to save his people, for example when Ransom saved The Green Lady from the Un Man that took over Weston s body. • 37. The Theory Of Atomic Theory Essay Emily Elliott Scientists who Contributed to Atomic Theory 20 September 20 What is Atomic Theory? Atomic theory is the theory that all matter is made up of tiny indivisible particles called atoms. This paper will discuss its beginnings and some of the scientists who made major contributions to how it is defined today. Background Since the earliest of times, scientists and philosophers have known that the universe is more than just what it appears to be, but instead there is a deeper, more complex makeup beneath the surface. The ancient Greeks called it the four elements 2, though some, like Democritus, believed that everything was made of tiny indivisible particles called atoms.3 Later, however, with advancements in technology, scientists such as John Dalton, JJ Thomson, Ernest Rutherford, and James Chadwick were able to prove the existence of an indivisible particle with a dense, positively charged nucleus consisting of protons and neutrons with electrons orbiting the nucleus.1 With this knowledge, others were able to dig deeper, and discover so much more about atomic theory, such as Brown s equation for the motion of an electron,6 Dirac s discovery of the positron,11 Fermi s research in nuclear fission to create the atomic bomb,13 and Gell Mann s discovery of the quark.14 Each discovery made by these men has shaped the world in some way or another, and even now more discoveries are being made, but only because of the foundation laid out by those who set atomic ... • 40. Analysis Of Euripides The Play Medea The Greek playwright Euripides, who lived from 480 BC to 406 BC, had four victories as a Tragedian. A third of the Big Three of tragedians, Euripides was, in his time, less successful than both Aeschylus and Sophocles, who had 13 and 20 victories. Euripides writing was drastically different from that of the others. While playwrights like Sophocles wrote characters the way they should be ideally, Euripideswrote his characters truthfully and portrayed people as compassionate and cruel and complicated as humans really are. In Medea, Euripides details the story of the play s namesake and leads readers to question his motives as well as hers. In a society that values its own and sees women as property, Medeademonstrates a confrontation of prejudices and the reality of any conflict. To a Greek audience in 431 BC, Medea might not have seemed unordinary at first. In the time of Medea, women followed the orders of men. When Jason leaves Medea, she is supposed to quietly accept that he does not want her. Instead, Medea exacts revenge on Jason, killing their two children, Jason s new princess, and the princess father. She can easily be seen as wild with passion and vengeance, driven to murderous and filicidal deeds. However, Euripides not only makes Medea a cruel, murderous character, but also one of much love and strength. He defies the attitude Greeks had of women. In her article over Greek culture s influence in Medea, Susanna Federici Nebbiosi described Medea as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Norman Borlaug was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1970 for his work in implementing genetically modified crops into starving regions. This implementation of his work in developing regions allowed for a sustainable food source, reducing competition for food. Providing a sustainable food source also allowed for the decrease in the average family size, since families in developing regions no longer needed to have a large family to maintain fields. The Great Gatsby Freudian Analysis Essay A Freudian Analysis of The Great Gatsby Sigmund Freud, a psychological genius, created an entirely new system that dealt with the understanding of the human personality. This technique, called psychoanalysis, consists of three subdivisions. The id responds directly to his or her instincts, while the superego relies on his or her sense of guilt. Lastly, the ego represents reality, or the balance between the id and superego. In F. Scott Fitzgerald s novel, The Great Gatsby, the three levels of subconsciousness are ideally filled by the main characters, Tom Buchanan, Jay Gatsby, and Nick Carraway. The id is not affected by reality, logic or the everyday world, as it operates within the unconscious part of the mind (McLeod). Tom Buchanan lived in his own mind. Literature Review On Hbcus LITERATURE REVIEW Background on HBCUs According to the National Center for Educational Statistics (NCES), there are 101 Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Title III of the Higher Education Act of 1965 defines HBCUs as ...any historically Black college or university that was established prior to 1964, whose principal mission was, and is, the education of Black Americans, and that is accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency or association determined by the Secretary [of Education] to be a reliable authority as to the quality of training offered or is, according to such an agency or association, making reasonable progress toward accreditation (US Department of Education, 2017). It is important to note that unlike other Minority Serving Institutions, HBCUs, are only one of two types of institutions (Tribal Colleges Universities or TCUs are the other) federally designated by law and therefore, cannot increase in number with an act of Congress (Li, 2007). In other words, every time an HBCU closes its doors, we get one step closer to the elimination of the historical and consequential institutions. To understand the significance of these institutions one must understand the context in which these institutions were established. In the most basic sense, HBCUs were established because of racism (Evans, Evans, Evans, 2002). Prior to the Civil War, few universities espoused the mission and goal of training and education Black people (Albritton, 2012). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This form of violence is by no means new and culturally the problem itself does not discriminate, there is no specific criteria that completely omits one from becoming a victim of domestic violence. The dynamics of domestic violence consist of the aggressor utilizing violence to maintain dominance and control over the victim. Effective schools ensure that parents and students know what is expected of them. Their written rules clearly define acceptable behavior and the consequences for breaking the rules (Bennett, et. al., 1999). Class rules should be few in number, should be seen as fair and make sense to students, and be clearly explained and taught to students. Class rules should become second nature to students (Slavin, 2003). Not only must rules be clearly presented to students, they must also be implemented. The teacher needs to be the moral authority in the classroom and it is imperative that school officials and parents back up the teachers decisions (Bennett, et. al., 1999). Teachers who do not establish their authority in the classroom often spend a lot of time dealing with misbehavior (Slavin, 2003).
