My Studio Project And The Oslo Opera House
he idea of being able to walk on top of the building is something that does not happen a lot.
Connecting the public to the building should be more than just creating a fascinating and interesting
facade. My idea is to describe how a building is able to connect to people, by allowing them to not just
walk inside or around but on top of the building creating a public space. The reason why I chose this
topic is that I wanted to make a connection to my studio project, and how I developed the idea for it.
In addition, I wanted to compare it to the Oslo Opera House and how this assisted me in arriving at my
final design. My studio project and the Oslo Opera House have a different scale however, I think they
share some similar concepts. The idea of togetherness, open space, and easy movement access to the
public, and most significantly its connection to the landscape.
Firstly, the location of the buildings is disparate, the Oslo Opera House does not really have a
connection to the landscape, since it is mostly part of the city surrounded by other buildings and where

Earthquakes are an unfortunate consequence of, well, living on earth. While other hazards such as
volcanos, tornados, floods, and wild fires all have clear visual indications that allow for us humans to
get away from them, earthquakes are much more insidious than the aforementioned disasters because
they have no such indicator and the damage they inflict is near instantaneous. Luckily for us humans,
seismologists have spent a good portion of the 20th century finding out why earthquakes occur, how
to predict earthquakes that have not happened yet, and how to minimize damages caused by
earthquakes with the help of extremely talented structural and seismic engineers. Our group will be
examining four specific earthquakes occurring near Plate Boundaries that have had a significant
impact on nearby communities, the damages and loss of life caused by these earthquakes, and how the
communities that live near hotspots have adapted to the omnipresence of seismic activity.

Mom is in the hospital again, my father said to me over the phone one evening this past April. Having
spent the majority of that day at work counseling and planning for a client with suicidal ideation, my

Society s unconscious response to health and illness
An important next step will be to re establish and anchor in trust in ourselves, and there is no better
opportunity to test our trust than the fear generated by social beliefs and the media reports surrounding
health and dis ease.
I would like to share an example of societies belief systems that surround dis ease with the relevant
points of a recent therapy session with a client.
My client who had been diagnosed with a life threatening dis ease (for the second time) arrived for a

As we began to talk, she had a look of uncertainty on her face, unsure of how to express, in sensible
terms, what she had been experiencing and feeling since her diagnosis .

In contrast, earlier that day she had shared her thoughts with a close family member, she expressed her
need to talk to her body and love her illness away. She also shared that she really needed to listen to
her inner feelings.
The family member was horrified, that s it she said you ve given up , you have to Fight this thing , you
must Fight it , was her panicked response.
This reaction did not surprise me in the slightest; it is a reflection of the unbalanced views we have
regarding health, illness and our bodies.
Our lives are filled with fear regarding dis ease. Will I be next? The statistics state me, or someone in
my family will defiantly be struck by serious illness.
The TV adverts appear to be ever increasing, filled with fear of what will happen to your family when
you are taken by a dis ease, children are even shown saying goodbye to a parent, I have seen a baby
used to highlight a dis ease. These adverts and the frequent messages we are given regarding dis ease,
is ironically, very unhealthy.
You will notice I am not naming specific dis eases, the names/words carry a vibration and we don t
need the vibration of a dis ease and the energy it carries in this book or affecting you as you read.
Therefore we can happily leave the names out.
Just remember at all times what DIS EASE means, dis ease within the body, it is far less frightening

and leaves the door wide open to go from DIS ease to EASE.

Substance Abuse And Its Effects
SUBSTANCE ABUSE Researchers state that almost half of individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia
in the United States also self medicate with alcohol and other drugs (Elements Behavioral Health,
2014). This is suggested due to individuals attempting to lessen the symptoms of their disorder. As
discussed previously symptoms can include hearing and seeing things that others don t hear or see,
problems falling asleep or staying asleep and problems with concentration and memory. In an effort to
lessen these symptoms alcohol and other drugs are used to induce sleep (NIMH, 2014). Research
suggests that approximately fifty percent of individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia have a co
occurring substance abuse disorder. The most common used are alcohol, marijuana and tobacco
(Green, Drake, Brunette Noordsy, 2007) (Dube, 2012). In contrast to what individuals diagnosed with
schizophrenia think they may be achieving by using alcohol and other drugs, research states that
substance use may actually modify the dysfunction in the brain reward center by increasing the
symptoms (Green et.al, 2007). Self medicating with alcohol and other drugs can often lead to
disruptions in gaining access to treatment. Pharmacological treatment is seen as one of the most
effective ways to assist with symptom reduction, and using alcohol and other drugs often interfere
(MHA, n.d). Some research studies have proposed that when an individual consumes any sort of mood

High School Is The Best Time Of My Life
My time throughout high school was the best time of my life, I wished I would have realized sooner
how terrible of a student I was. I look back and think how much harder I could have tried, things I
could have done different, and how it has changed me. I don t have a single regret, because not only
was it a lesson learned but it was humorous along the way. I was never the best person at studying, in
fact I was terrible at it. I am the biggest procrastinator, the phrase, due tomorrow, do tomorrow I know
all too well. I knew I would have an upcoming assignment due, a test to study for, and I would still

The Security Of A Network
There are many threats today that can compromise the security of a network. Network security is now
more important as ever as attacks on networks that hold valuable information are being breached, even
with security measures put in place. One of the biggest threats to a network is data theft. Outside
hackers pose the greatest threat. These thieves target a company s network and steal information
through vulnerabilities that they have found in their networks. They usually gain access through the
use of a Trojan horse, which is a program that looks legitimate but can be used by others to gain
access to the network. They may also use a virus or worm, which can infiltrate a network with
malicious code and replicate itself in a network. Others try to gain entry by attempting to crack the
network passwords or user accounts. We hear in the news how networks that were supposed to be
secure were breached and information was stolen that could have negative consequences. Yahoo
discovered that their network had been attacked continuously for the past two years but only recently
discovered it. Information that was stolen ranged from users birth dates to passwords that were
encrypted (Lien). When a network has been successfully breached and information stolen, the
company who has fallen victim to this not only sees their reputation hurt but also suffer a large drop in
their stock prices. This hurts people who may have some shares in that company as many retirement
