Television, A Modern Media Essay
Television, a telecommunication medium some may not survive without. Today s generation may refer
to television as a technological norm; delusional of a world where television was non existent.
Notably, television unites the nation through local or world events, politics, education, and
entertainment. Philo Farnsworth, Father of Television, invented the television; the electronic
transmission of fixed or mobile images. Furthermore, Farnsworth s invention influenced a new form
of media. Young Farnsworth s scientific, technological imagination as well as, competitive battle with
a major league corporation, RCA, enticed the growth of one of the most popular media mediums;
television.
One illustrious instrument that advanced media configuration is Farnsworth s ambitious background.
Philo Farnsworth, innovator at heart, was born August 19, 1906 in Beaver, Utah. Young Farnsworth
grew up on a farmhouse in Rigby, Idaho. While tending to daily agricultural responsibilities on the
farm, Farnsworth fantasized about conveying images through electrical power. He said he had realized
seven years earlier, while plowing a field on his family s farm, that an image could be scanned onto a
picture tube row by row ( Elma Gardner Farnsworth, 98; Helped Husband Develop TV, 2006).
Likewise, Farnsworth created electrical improvements to household appliances which became a
favored pastime. According to Godfrey (2004), By age 12, Philo was repairing the electric machinery

Chemical Burn Research Paper
The severity of a chemical burn depends on the following factors: corrosive capability of the chemical
burn, concentration of the chemical, temperature of the chemical or the solution in which it dissolved
and lastly, duration of the contact with the chemical (page 294). Also an important dependent on the
severity of the burn is by how deep the burn in question penetrates through the skin. This is
determined by the location of the burn, age of the victim, and the amount of burned area (page 293).
Chemical burns can destroy body tissue, depending on the extent of destruction including the severity
of the burn. However, chemical burns can also cause a high risk of infection in victims. Due to this
risk of infection it is important to keep the

(40) The authors also note that failure to address the bullying behavior can lead to adverse
consequences for the consumer, the organization, and the profession. (40)
This article looks at challenging behavior in the clinical setting, and gives advice on how to develop
an Action Plan for Education and Training. The author looks at challenging behavior from more of an
interactional viewpoint instead of a judgmental viewpoint. The goal is to understand what instigated
the behavior, and why certain reactions caused the situation to escalate. The key to handling
challenging behavior is education and training. The training should include different ways to deal with
the staff s response to the challenging behavior as well as the environmental influences that might
influence the behavior. Through increased education and training, the staff will gain a better
understanding about how the behavior affects them personally, how the situation could have provoked
the behavior, and how to prevent environmental influences from provoking a challenging behavioral
response.
The study confirms the fact that there has to be a planned educated approach to manage any difficult
employee or patient situation. Taking an educated approach instead of a judgmental approach will help
promote solutions that are more effective, communication, and actions.

Plastic Surgery Of Food
The Plastic Surgery of Food
This year more than 559,000 Americans will die of cancer, and another 1,445,000 new cases will be
detected. (Kushi, Jack 3) According to the American National Cancer Society, facts and figures from
2017 has linked that sixty years ago the rate of people who would get cancer in their lifetime was one
of eight, however, today it has risen to one in two men and one in three women. Several studies
indicate processed foods are a leading contributor to the rising cancer rates because of artificial
ingredients, GMOs, and how human process these foods.
Processed foods can be classified as any food that has been altered from its natural state. A nationwide
analysis of U.S. grocery purchases reveals that highly processed foods make up more than 60% of the
calories of the food we buy. (Highly Processed Foods Dominate U.S. Grocery Purchases) Processed
foods include processed meats which include luncheon meats, hot dogs, ham, bacon, salami are linked
to an increase of bowel, stomach, and pancreatic cancers. Colon cancer currently ranks 3rd; with
prostate cancer being 4th, for the most popular diagnosed cancers. (Kushi, Jack, 253) However, it can
also be argued that the top contributors for cancer remain smoking, alcohol and obesity. Robert

Recoil Pad Benefits
In my 18 years of being a shooter, I realized the benefit of having a great recoil pad. Having a recoil
pad for both a wood or synthetic stock will increase a shooters precision, comfort and reduce pain.
Replacing a recoil pad is a common job that may need to be installed or just slipped onto the
buttstock. Depending on its thickness, a recoil pad may increase the shooters pull or modify the fitting.
The overall goal should be to find a recoil pad that will allow the shooter ease of use, reduce the recoil
and have compatibility with the rifle or shotgun if it s not a universal pad.
Customizing the fit of the recoil pad is easily done with a rubberized slip over device or may require a

John Keats Influence Leading To Ode To A Nightingale
Keats Influences Leading to Ode to a Nightingale
John Keats, author of many poems from the British Romantic Period, was best known for his five
great odes, the most famous of which was Ode to a Nightingale ( Ode Summary ). Literary critic
Douglas Bush once said that if John Keats had not died at the young age of twenty five, he would be
more well known than William Shakespeare and Keats Milton ( John Keats 559). John Keats was a
young poet whose poems, mostly revolved around the mortal and immortal aspects of life. Keats had
many of influences in his life that led him to write Ode to a Nightingale.
Born on October 31 1795, Keats was the first born of Frances Jennings and Thomas Keats five
children ( The Life of John Keats ). As a young boy, he grew up poor. John Keats father was a stable
keeper and tended to the horses and other animals. One day John Keats received news that would
change his life forever ( John Keats Biography ). As Keats father was leaving from visiting Keats and
his brother George at school, Thomas s horse slipped on the cobblestone throwing him onto the
ground. Causing his father to suffer a skull fracture. Thomas died a few hours later from the injury (
The Life of John Keats ).
Two months after the death of his father Keats s mother married William Rawling, a minor bank clerk

Theme Of Social Class In Jane Eyre
Not So Plain Jane
Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre traces the orphan Jane Eyre through her life at Gateshead Hall, Lowood
institution, Thornfield, Moore House, and ultimately, Ferndean. At an early age, Jane loses both her
mother and father to typhus, leaving her under the care of her uncle who also perishes and entrusts
Mrs. Reed with Jane s custody. After 10 years of living under Mrs.Reed s guardianship and enduring
her unjust treatment, Jane departs Gateshead for Lowood institute where she remains for eight years
six as a pupil and two as a teacher (86). Jane s journey continues as she moves to Thornfield and
becomes the governess of Adele a lively child who had been spoilt and indulged (111), she also meets
Mr. Rochester a man with stern features and a heavy brow who owns Thornfield. A central role in Jane
Eyre is the physical journeys that Jane embarks on which illuminate the theme that social class
dictates how people are treated.
As the novel opens, Jane resides at Gateshead Hall under the guardianship of her callous aunt Mrs.
Reed, revealing the theme that social class dictates how people are treated. While Jane happily reads
in the window seat, her cousin John Reed interrupts her repose to harass her as he often did facing no

1. Best Post (1 point) This article is relevant because it talks about how Hollywood films are changing
as studios begin to make films that don t just target the US audience, but also the international
audience, specifically from countries with emerging markets. According to the article, studio
executives will only approve a movie if there are potential overseas ticket sales. Hollywood would go
out of its way to appeal and to not offend global markets. For example, for the Chinese version of Iron

2. Best Post Analysis (2 points) I feel that post is my best post because I think I did a good job in
picking an interesting article and explaining how the article I picked is relevant and relatable to Week
7 s topic/lecture about US film industry, particularly Contemporary Hollywood. Although some of the
stuff the article points out are quite obvious, as part of the target audience of the film industry, we (I)
do not usually pay much attention to the smaller subtle things. For example, how the supporting cast is
becoming more and more diverse or how as the storylines of blockbuster films are becoming less
sophisticated, appealing to such a diverse audience as the global audience is actually very challenging.
Aside from grammar, I feel like I need to expand more about how and why I think the article is
relevant to the topic of the week. Because I did not want my post to be too long, I omitted some
interesting points I found in the article. I plan to add them in my revision post because they reinforce
the fact Contemporary Hollywood is transforming into Global Hollywood. 3. Rewritten Best Posting

Who Is The Hero In Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Buffy The Vampire Slayer is a critically acclaimed masterpiece. One can see this in many ways
including how extended metaphors can be seen throughout Buffy. Buffy was and still continues to be
extremely popular. It aired from 1997 to 2003, having approximately 177 episodes, and airing for
seven seasons. Many episodes had different meanings. In the episode titled I Robot, You Jane it warns
of the dangers of catfishing without directly saying it, and in The Replacement it deals with split
personalities and how to deal with them. Hush s meaning dealt with the importance of communication.
Buffy Summers, the central character of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, is portrayed as not only a hero but
as a princess in the hit TV show s episode Hush.
Buffy Summers is a princess not the typical ball gown and magical princess though. She is a princess
for a few reasons other than being related to royalty. In the show, Giles tells the gang the only way to
kill the monsters is a scream, later Buffy screams just like how in the story the princess screams. When
she screams she remembers how Mr. Giles was telling the story of how the princess screamed and
killed the monsters. The monsters hate noise which is why they take the voices of others and die ...

The term computer virus is often used as a blanket term for all types of malware. The opposite is true.
A computer virus is, simply, yet another type of malware, although one of the most common. This
paper will discuss several of the different types of malware, from viruses, to worms, to Trojan horses,
what exactly they are, the ways they are used to attack us, and ways to combat them. Perhaps the most

the computer, although it is merely one type of malware. There are many types of malware currently

Similarities Between Harry Potter And The Prizoner Of Azkaban
An adaptation is the act or process of adapting or being adapted; an alteration or modification. Movie
adaptations are no different as they modify the story of the book. In Harry Potter and the Prizoner of
Azkaban by J.K. Rowling and the film adaptation by Alfonso Cuaron, the two stories have their own
unique interpretations. Rowling s and Cuaron s Prisoner of Azkaban are similar, however they differ,
and their main themes are exceedingly specialized. An adaptation of any kind should not be expected
to be a precise representation of the original. Though the movie is an adaptation of the book, there are
still a great deal of similarities between the two. And then the thing beneath the hood, whatever it was,
drew a long, slow, rattling breath, as though it were trying to suck some thing more than air from its
surrounding. An intense cold swept over them all (Rowling 83). In the film adaptation of the book, the
dementor enters the doorway, everything quickly freezes, and it causes Harry to pass out as the air
makes a sucking motion. This scene is important in the book and the movie, as it sets up one of the
conflicts of the story. The similarities shown throughout the movie that correlate with the book are

The Bolshevik Revolution, By Edward Carr
In his work The Bolshevik Revolution, Edward Carr expands through a detailed historical account
how exactly it was that the Russian councils took power in October 1917. Sociological frameworks
will also allow for a deeper understanding of the social unrest that led to the culmination of the
October Revolution of 1917 and the unintended consequence of the bureaucratization of the state. To
fully comprehend the events that led the council to take power, it is necessary to acknowledge both the

From February to July, there were protests and constant debate, in hopes of change. However, Lenin s
theses are rejected and the councils continue to support the provisional government because they re
following the orthodox Marxist stages model.
The councils, who were mostly orthodox Marxists, first resisted Lenin s theses because it was difficult
to take this anti Marxist articulation seriously. In other words, they only saw it tangible for Russia to
go through a preliminary stage in order to reach a fully capitalist society, then only through Marxian
revolution get to socialism. Lenin did, however, articulate in his Theses the need to bring rise to both
capitalism and socialism simultaneously. Even though the council s shut down his view, after the
Kornilov affair and the breakdown of the institution, the councils begin to lean on Lenin. Which
results in the successful takeover of the councils. It too can be argued that as a great leader Lenin won
the people and a shift of sympathy towards the Bolsheviks, who promised everything. The conditions
which Lenin had foreseen in his April theses as justifying the transition to the second stage of the
revolution were maturing fast (Carr, 1985: 93).
After the Tsar Voluntarily abdicated in February 1917, due to vast discontent across all the social
classes, it brought up the emergence of dual power . This

Klamath Tribe
Perceptions of the lands and waters of the Klamath are rooted in cultural memory and the collective
identity of community (Smith 1997). These shared histories and identities have the potential to serve
as a unifying force within some communities, particularly when a group is marginalized or alienated
from their land and livelihoods (Horangic, Berry and Wall 2016; Kosek 2006). Tribes in both the
upper and lower basin have been alienated from subsistence and commercial salmon fishing because
of the laws against tribal takings, and in more recent years, due to disease and fish die offs(Most
2006). This has not diminished the importance of fishing, but instead strengthens the necessity of
salmon fishing and ceremonies such as the Annual Return of the C waam (sucker fish) Ceremony of

Hollywood s Golden Age
Hollywood s Golden Age started when major studios had survived the financial crisis of the 1920s,
and decided not to be put in that kind of situation by introducing the contract system to all of their
employees. This strategy assured that the studios where less likely to be exposed to high risks, and
where sometimes more in favor of the studios. With total power over productions the studios where
able to keep production costs at a manageable levels, as well as exclusive rights to certain stars of the
era. Even thought employees who were part of the contract system enjoyed steady employment,
compensation, and other benefits, the studios reserve the right to cancel or void any contract at their

Rhetorical Analysis Of Rob Green s Speech Afraid All Over
I went to TEDxUSD on Saturday, November 5, which is a TED talks that is independently organized
by the University of South Dakota. Multiple people spoke at the event including Rob Green, Casey
Finnicum, Jeff Gould and Lindsey Meyers. This event was hosted in Aalfs Auditorium on the
University of South Dakota campus. The purpose of the speeches was not only to entertain the
audience, but also to inform the audience of topics important to the speaker. They also used their
speeches to persuade the audience. For this criticism, I will talk about Rob Green s speech, Afraid All
Over. His specific goal for the speech was to persuade his audience to not let fears control your life.
He accomplished this by informing us of three ways he got over his ... Show more content on

He used basic transitions to connect each part to each other. I thought that the use of simple transitions
was very effective because it kept the atmosphere of storytelling alive. Green used a call to action as
his conclusion to say why you should not let fears get the best of you. He wanted to make us ponder
about how small our world would be if we let fears build up walls in our life. I enjoyed Rob Green s
delivery. He used a story telling atmosphere to his speech and made the atmosphere feel like we were
two old friends talking around the fireplace. His delivery was solid and I did not feel that any part was
distracting. The tone of voice and rate were very conversational and he used his hands to aid in the
story. He did not use his hands too little or too much. Rob walked around the circle telling his story
and moved aside to show us his pictures. TEDxUSD did not have any podiums to use, but Rob used
his whole circle of carpet to speak. The lighting was just a spotlight on Rob which made it easy for the
audience to see him. There was no question and answer session to his speech. My favorite part of his
delivery was the use of pictures and a video in his presentation. He used them to aid in giving us the
full picture of his experiences. Overall, I thought Rob Green did a fantastic job of

The Prague Spring, Solidarity Movement, And The Fall Of...
There were many events that led to the fall of the Soviet Union. In my opinion, the most important
events that led to the fall of the Soviet Union were the Romanian Revolution, Velvet Revolution,
Prague Spring, Solidarity Movement, and the Fall of the Berlin Wall. The Romanian Revolution was
the 5th most important event because it was important revolution that resulted in many causalities.
The Velvet Revolution (4th most important) was a major event in the fall of the Soviet Union and was
also a non violent one. The Prague Spring (3rd most important) showed that the Soviet Union wasn t
happy to give up it s republics and satellites. The Solidarity Movement (2nd most important) was the

The Solidarity movement in Poland occurred in 1980 and was the first event that led to the fall of the

Female Protagonists In Hosseini s A Thousand Splendid Suns
A Thousand Splendid Suns is a novel about two woman protagonists, Mariam and Laila. The
trajectory of their lives forms the double plot of the book, and although the narrative is in the third
person, the point of view itself shifts to that of the character whose plotline is being developed. The
two women s narrative points of view structure the novel with intricately wrought symmetry. Part 1 of
the novel is told through Mariam s point of view, part 2 of the book is written through Laila s point of

Throughout the book Mariam endured pain and hardship. When I compare the two I would have to

life full of internal conflict. Mariam is also trying to win her father s, Jalil, love while she is being
rejected by him because his wives do not like her. It was worse when he sold her against her own to

American Bison Research Paper
American bison (Bison bison) have lived for thousands of years, but are now going extinct due to
buffalo hunting. Bisons live in America, and their habitats are mostly river valleys, prairies and grassy
plains. Bisons are Herbivores, their diets consisting mainly of grasses, weeds, and other leafy plants.
Their predators are gray wolves, cougars, and bears. There is one kind of species of American bison,
but American bison ancestors can be traced to Southern Asia thousands of years ago. Also, the history
of bison and Native Americans are intertwined. Female bison breed when they are two years old, and
give birth to their first calves when they are three years old. Cows can be 20 25 years old, giving birth
to a calf each year under the right conditions. The average gestation period of a bison is 283 days. A
baby bison is called a red dog. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Managing The Population Through Education And Birth...
When the world celebrated the 7 billionth baby s birth in Manila a few years back, we were stepping
in a society with noticeable population explosion. Those overpopulated societies which can no longer
sustain themselves invade the natural environment which belongs to wildlife and over exploit natural
resources for survival. Human beings are supposed to be responsible for the majority of environmental
problems, while overpopulation exacerbates most problems such as pollution, deforestation, global
warming, etc. Thus, to save the world from those environmental crises we should attach more
importance on the people that cause them rather than just reply on developing technology to fix the
problem its own. Managing the population through education and birth control policy is what we can
do with global joint efforts. Reminding the public of our population problem, providing an option of
birth control to families and guiding the public to live sustainably will slow down the population
growth, and hopefully in the long sense reduce world s population. Most importantly, such declining
population which owns greener lifestyle creates a benign and harmonious relationship with the planet.
The UNICEF estimates that an average of 353,000 babies are born each day; this means a baby is born
to the world every two seconds. About 60 years ago, the world s population is less than a half of what
it is right now. Therefore, if the population continue to grow with this rate, the

The Chicano And Black Civil Rights Movement
A significant struggle during the Chicano and Black Civil rights movement was employment, and
discrimination in the workplace. First, a case pertaining to this issue during the Chicano movement
was Bernal v. Fainter in the year 1984. This was a case where the Supreme Court of the United States
« ruled that the Equal Protection Clause prohibited the state of Texas from barring noncitizens from
applying for commission as a notary public.» The result of this case came about, as the court realized,
that there is no requirement for a notary to be a citizen, but the the only real necessity is that they
follow the law. On the other hand, this case points out that a noncitizen may be unable to become a
police officer or any other type of government worker that is required to « act on behalf of the state
and have considerable discretion in how the law is enforced. » Next a case relating to employment
difficulties during the Black Civil rights movement was Griggs v. Duke Power Company in the year
1971. The ruling on this case by the Supreme Court was that Duke Power Company was «
discriminating against black employees, » because their qualification for employment did « not pertain
to applicants ability to perform the job,» but rather was influenced by other factors such as race, and
therefore they were not hiring people in certain racial

Analysis Of Vincent Van Gogh And The Oxbow
I have chosen Romanticism/ Post Impressionism, Olive Trees with yellow sky and sun, by Vincent
Van Gogh; The Oxbow, by Thomas Cole, comparing it to the Spirit Rising, by Christophe Vacher .
In my research / readings of my chosen Artist, I found a lot of information about them that I will
descibe individually. Based on the biography, It has been stated that Vincent was a most well known
post impressionism Artist, for whom color was the chief symbol of expression, he was highly
emotional, lacked self confidence and struggled with his identity and with direction. (Templeton Reid)
In the late 1800 s is when Vincent basically made the decision to become an Artist, in which he
wanted to provide some type of Happiness because he was able to create beauty (Templeton Reid). As
you review the art chosen above by Vincent Van Gogh, you will notice the colors used were dark i.e.
Greens, Oranges, Blues, with splashes of yellow to create the sun, which led me to believe that maybe
this was when he was in the dark place of his life. In the Van Gogh painting, I see big trees with the
nice bright sun shining over the blue water, while looking at the trees it makes me feel safe because of
the openness of the surrounding space, also the brightness of the sun and the coolness of the water
makes me calm and relaxed, it s just something about being in nature that gives me a sense of peace
and direction, nothing to distract or disturb me.

Comparing Greek And Norse Mythology
When analyzing both Greek and Norse stories and beliefs, they can appear to be both very unique in
nature, but also very alike to each other. Some of the attributes shared between them exist in their
gods, concept of fate, and origin story where they conquer their creators. Along with the parallels they
share, they also contrast when it comes to their playful or gloomy nature, heroes, and the gods power.
To compare Greek and Norse mythology, it is beneficial to examine the gods, their ideas of fate, and
their origin stories that they had. Though their gods generally differed, they held many of the same
traits. Odin and Zeus were both seen as a ruler of the Olympians. Thor also possessed elemental traits
similar to Zeus, lightning and thunder. Both sets of mythologies have gods that pertain to parts ...

Causes Of Power Corrupts
The Power Magnet
Award winning author David Brin once stated, It is said that power corrupts, but actually it s more true
that power attracts the corruptible. The sane are usually attracted by other things than power. In a
perfect world there would be no corruption or lust for power; however, humans are not perfect,
therefore, mistakes are made and many crave money, pleasures, and power causing them to lose sight
of what truly matter. Throughout the history of our existence, there have been instances of corruption
for various reasons. Some cases include the terror of Maximilien Robespierre amid revolutionary
France, the recent American Olympic scandal at the 2016 Rio De Janeiro Olympics, and the ascension
of the narcissistic rapper Kanye West.
While corruption isn t always the reason for gaining power, it can become the reason why certain
actions are taken to maintain that new power. Initially, Maximilien Robespierre was a French
revolutionary who supported the people despite being a bourgeoisie, commonly seen as an enemy of
the oppressed. Once the revolution gained control of the French monarchy, Robespierre let his greed
and ambition take hold of him. He devised the plan to behead former King Louis XVI in order to
assure the success of the revolution. Robespierre let this new power overcome him resulting in the
shelving of the Constitution so he could pursue the elimination of all suspects against the Republic,
allowing him to legally capture and kill almost anyone.

Wild Style Essay
Wild Style is a hip hop film that was produced by Charlies Ahearm in 1983. This movie is considered
to be one of the most influential films in a hip hop history, because it is the first hip hop motion
picture and has main elements of hip hop in it. After the soundtracks of the movie had been released,
people started to know more about a culture of hip hop. The movie plot also makes it even more
interesting. This movie travels back in time to the period that hip hop was not well known and was
among a small group of people. Zoro is the New York City boy who has a passion for hip hop culture,
especially graffiti. Even though other people disagree with his decision, Zero still tries to prove his
belief when he is hired to paint a stage on a hip hop concert event. The several elements of hip hop are
seen in this movie and are all interacted as he says [Graffiti artist] makes those letter dance (2). In this
paper, I will illustrate how Wild Style shows the interconnection of two main hip hop s elements that
are mostly involved in this film: graffiti and breakdancing. First of all, graffiti is a hip hop s element
that can be seen throughout the film. As a matter of fact, we first see it in a very beginning of the film.

Television, A ModernMedia Essay Television, a telecommunication medium some may not survive without. Today s generation may refer to television as a technological norm; delusional of a world where television was non existent. Notably, television unites the nation through local or world events, politics, education, and entertainment. Philo Farnsworth, Father of Television, invented the television; the electronic transmission of fixed or mobile images. Furthermore, Farnsworth s invention influenced a new form of media. Young Farnsworth s scientific, technological imagination as well as, competitive battle with a major league corporation, RCA, enticed the growth of one of the most popular media mediums; television. One illustrious instrument that advanced media configuration is Farnsworth s ambitious background. Philo Farnsworth, innovator at heart, was born August 19, 1906 in Beaver, Utah. Young Farnsworth grew up on a farmhouse in Rigby, Idaho. While tending to daily agricultural responsibilities on the farm, Farnsworth fantasized about conveying images through electrical power. He said he had realized seven years earlier, while plowing a field on his family s farm, that an image could be scanned onto a picture tube row by row ( Elma Gardner Farnsworth, 98; Helped Husband Develop TV, 2006). Likewise, Farnsworth created electrical improvements to household appliances which became a favored pastime. Recoil Pad Benefits Inmy 18 years of being a shooter, I realized the benefit of having a great recoil pad. Having a recoil pad for both a wood or synthetic stock will increase a shooters precision, comfort and reduce pain. Replacing a recoil pad is a common job that may need to be installed or just slipped onto the buttstock. Depending on its thickness, a recoil pad may increase the shooters pull or modify the fitting. The overall goal should be to find a recoil pad that will allow the shooter ease of use, reduce the recoil and have compatibility with the rifle or shotgun if it s not a universal pad. Theme Of SocialClass In Jane Eyre Not So Plain Jane Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre traces the orphan Jane Eyre through her life at Gateshead Hall, Lowood institution, Thornfield, Moore House, and ultimately, Ferndean. At an early age, Jane loses both her mother and father to typhus, leaving her under the care of her uncle who also perishes and entrusts Mrs. Reed with Jane s custody. After 10 years of living under Mrs.Reed s guardianship and enduring her unjust treatment, Jane departs Gateshead for Lowood institute where she remains for eight years six as a pupil and two as a teacher (86). Jane s journey continues as she moves to Thornfield and becomes the governess of Adele a lively child who had been spoilt and indulged (111), she also meets Mr. Rochester a man with stern features and a heavy brow who owns Thornfield. A central role in Jane Eyre is the physical journeys that Jane embarks on which illuminate the theme that social class dictates how people are treated. As the novel opens, Jane resides at Gateshead Hall under the guardianship of her callous aunt Mrs. Reed, revealing the theme that social class dictates how people are treated. While Jane happily reads in the window seat, her cousin John Reed interrupts her repose to harass her as he often did facing no consequences from the servants [who] did not like to offend their young master by taking [her] part against him, and Mrs. Reed [who] was blind and deaf on the subject (12). According to the article, studio executives will only approve a movie if there are potential overseas ticket sales. Hollywood would go out of its way to appeal and to not offend global markets. Although some of the stuff the article points out are quite obvious, as part of the target audience of the film industry, we (I) do not usually pay much attention to the smaller subtle things. For example, how the supporting cast is becoming more and more diverse or how as the storylines of blockbuster films are becoming less sophisticated, appealing to such a diverse audience as the global audience is actually very challenging. Aside from grammar, I feel like I need to expand more about how and why I think the article is relevant to the topic of the week. Because I did not want my post to be too long, I omitted some interesting points I found in the article. I plan to add them in my revision post because they reinforce the fact Contemporary Hollywood is transforming into Global Hollywood. 3. Who Is TheHero In Buffy The Vampire Slayer Buffy The Vampire Slayer is a critically acclaimed masterpiece. One can see this in many ways including how extended metaphors can be seen throughout Buffy. Buffy was and still continues to be extremely popular. It aired from 1997 to 2003, having approximately 177 episodes, and airing for seven seasons. Many episodes had different meanings. In the episode titled I Robot, You Jane it warns of the dangers of catfishing without directly saying it, and in The Replacement it deals with split personalities and how to deal with them. Hush s meaning dealt with the importance of communication. Buffy Summers, the central character of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, is portrayed as not only a hero but as a princess in the hit TV show s episode Hush. Buffy Summers is a princess not the typical ball gown and magical princess though. She is a princess for a few reasons other than being related to royalty. In the show, Giles tells the gang the only way to kill the monsters is a scream, later Buffy screams just like how in the story the princess screams. When she screams she remembers how Mr. Giles was telling the story of how the princess screamed and killed the monsters. Similarities Between HarryPotter And The Prizoner Of Azkaban An adaptation is the act or process of adapting or being adapted; an alteration or modification. Movie adaptations are no different as they modify the story of the book. In Harry Potter and the Prizoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling and the film adaptation by Alfonso Cuaron, the two stories have their own unique interpretations. Rowling s and Cuaron s Prisoner of Azkaban are similar, however they differ, and their main themes are exceedingly specialized. An adaptation of any kind should not be expected to be a precise representation of the original. Though the movie is an adaptation of the book, there are still a great deal of similarities between the two. Hollywood s GoldenAge Hollywood s Golden Age started when major studios had survived the financial crisis of the 1920s, and decided not to be put in that kind of situation by introducing the contract system to all of their employees. This strategy assured that the studios where less likely to be exposed to high risks, and where sometimes more in favor of the studios. With total power over productions the studios where able to keep production costs at a manageable levels, as well as exclusive rights to certain stars of the era. Rhetorical Analysis OfRob Green s Speech Afraid All Over I went to TEDxUSD on Saturday, November 5, which is a TED talks that is independently organized by the University of South Dakota. Multiple people spoke at the event including Rob Green, Casey Finnicum, Jeff Gould and Lindsey Meyers. This event was hosted in Aalfs Auditorium on the University of South Dakota campus. The purpose of the speeches was not only to entertain the audience, but also to inform the audience of topics important to the speaker. They also used their speeches to persuade the audience. Green used a call to action as his conclusion to say why you should not let fears get the best of you. He wanted to make us ponder about how small our world would be if we let fears build up walls in our life. I enjoyed Rob Green s delivery. He used a story telling atmosphere to his speech and made the atmosphere feel like we were two old friends talking around the fireplace. His delivery was solid and I did not feel that any part was distracting. The tone of voice and rate were very conversational and he used his hands to aid in the story. He did not use his hands too little or too much. Rob walked around the circle telling his story and moved aside to show us his pictures. TEDxUSD did not have any podiums to use, but Rob used his whole circle of carpet to speak. The lighting was just a spotlight on Rob which made it easy for the audience to see him. There was no question and answer session to his speech. My favorite part of his delivery was the use of pictures and a video in his presentation. He used them to aid in giving us the full picture of his experiences. Overall, I thought Rob Green did a fantastic job of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Managing The PopulationThrough Education And Birth... When the world celebrated the 7 billionth baby s birth in Manila a few years back, we were stepping in a society with noticeable population explosion. Those overpopulated societies which can no longer sustain themselves invade the natural environment which belongs to wildlife and over exploit natural resources for survival. Human beings are supposed to be responsible for the majority of environmental problems, while overpopulation exacerbates most problems such as pollution, deforestation, global warming, etc. Thus, to save the world from those environmental crises we should attach more importance on the people that cause them rather than just reply on developing technology to fix the problem its own. Managing the population through education and birth control policy is what we can do with global joint efforts. Reminding the public of our population problem, providing an option of birth control to families and guiding the public to live sustainably will slow down the population growth, and hopefully in the long sense reduce world s population. Most importantly, such declining population which owns greener lifestyle creates a benign and harmonious relationship with the planet. The Chicano AndBlack Civil Rights Movement A significant struggle during the Chicano and Black Civil rights movement was employment, and discrimination in the workplace. First, a case pertaining to this issue during the Chicano movement was Bernal v. Fainter in the year 1984. This was a case where the Supreme Court of the United States « ruled that the Equal Protection Clause prohibited the state of Texas from barring noncitizens from applying for commission as a notary public.» The result of this case came about, as the court realized, that there is no requirement for a notary to be a citizen, but the the only real necessity is that they follow the law. On the other hand, this case points out that a noncitizen may be unable to become a police officer or any other type of government worker that is required to « act on behalf of the state and have considerable discretion in how the law is enforced. » Next a case relating to employment difficulties during the Black Civil rights movement was Griggs v. Duke Power Company in the year 1971. The ruling on this case by the Supreme Court was that Duke Power Company was « discriminating against black employees, » because their qualification for employment did « not pertain to applicants ability to perform the job,» but rather was influenced by other factors such as race, and therefore they were not hiring people in certain racial ... Analysis Of VincentVan Gogh And The Oxbow I have chosen Romanticism/ Post Impressionism, Olive Trees with yellow sky and sun, by Vincent Van Gogh; The Oxbow, by Thomas Cole, comparing it to the Spirit Rising, by Christophe Vacher . In my research / readings of my chosen Artist, I found a lot of information about them that I will descibe individually. Based on the biography, It has been stated that Vincent was a most well known post impressionism Artist, for whom color was the chief symbol of expression, he was highly emotional, lacked self confidence and struggled with his identity and with direction. (Templeton Reid) In the late 1800 s is when Vincent basically made the decision to become an Artist, in which he wanted to provide some type of Happiness because he was able to create beauty (Templeton Reid). As you review the art chosen above by Vincent Van Gogh, you will notice the colors used were dark i.e. Greens, Oranges, Blues, with splashes of yellow to create the sun, which led me to believe that maybe this was when he was in the dark place of his life. In the Van Gogh painting, I see big trees with the nice bright sun shining over the blue water, while looking at the trees it makes me feel safe because of the openness of the surrounding space, also the brightness of the sun and the coolness of the water makes me calm and relaxed, it s just something about being in nature that gives me a sense of peace and direction, nothing to distract or disturb me. Causes Of PowerCorrupts The Power Magnet Award winning author David Brin once stated, It is said that power corrupts, but actually it s more true that power attracts the corruptible. The sane are usually attracted by other things than power. In a perfect world there would be no corruption or lust for power; however, humans are not perfect, therefore, mistakes are made and many crave money, pleasures, and power causing them to lose sight of what truly matter. Throughout the history of our existence, there have been instances of corruption for various reasons. Some cases include the terror of Maximilien Robespierre amid revolutionary France, the recent American Olympic scandal at the 2016 Rio De Janeiro Olympics, and the ascension of the narcissistic rapper Kanye West. While corruption isn t always the reason for gaining power, it can become the reason why certain actions are taken to maintain that new power. Initially, Maximilien Robespierre was a French revolutionary who supported the people despite being a bourgeoisie, commonly seen as an enemy of the oppressed. Once the revolution gained control of the French monarchy, Robespierre let his greed and ambition take hold of him. He devised the plan to behead former King Louis XVI in order to assure the success of the revolution. Robespierre let this new power overcome him resulting in the shelving of the Constitution so he could pursue the elimination of all suspects against the Republic, allowing him to legally capture and kill almost anyone. ... This movie is considered to be one of the most influential films in a hip hop history, because it is the first hip hop motion picture and has main elements of hip hop in it. After the soundtracks of the movie had been released, people started to know more about a culture of hip hop. The movie plot also makes it even more interesting.
