Alex In A Clockwork Orange
In Depth Character Analysis on Alex Besides the protagonist in A Clockwork Orange, who is Alex?
Many times we only look at main characters with an outsiders perspective. The characteristics of a
character are important, but the main characters are often made to be so much more in the inside by
the author. Most simply, from an outward perspective, who is Alex? What shaped Alex to be violent?
How might have other characters influenced him to be the leader of a gang? Where did Alex s actions
leave him and did Alex understand that where he was left was avoidable? And finally, in his actions,
good and bad, was there personal growth? These are all questions to explore while diving in to who
Alex is from the inside.
Most simply, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alex is eventually shown, although the hard way, that violence (and overall, evil) is not the way one
can live their life forever. After getting away with countless crimes, two of his droogs set him up. Alex
is rightfully taken into the hands of the police officers and put in prison for the killing of an innocent
woman. In this prison he is the first to be chosen and tested on with the Ludovico Technique, a
correctional technique for criminals. This technique was a two week process of torture. Insuring that
Alex couldn t move his body to interfere with the technique, two scientists had Alex put in a straight
jacket and strapped down with his eyes held open by metal clamps. The scientists gave him nausea
inducing liquid and would then play movies in front of him of crimes he had committed in the past,
beating men and women profusely and raping women. This technique was thought to retrain and
reform the criminal s brain. However, one of the more horrific movies was accompanied by classical
music, the only nonviolent enjoyment Alex ever connected to. QUOTE From then on Alex gagged at
the attempt to raise his fist to another person in the same way that he gagged at the sound of classical
music. The doctors though, deemed his treatment to be successful and sent him out into the world a
reformed man . Alex s violence resulted in treatment that then resulted to him not being able to

The Conception Of Hatshepsut s Life
The conceptions of Hatshepsut have been altered over time due to a wide range of archalogical site
interpretations, and modern historians. These ideas of a prosperous image must also take into
consideration the legacy she is determined in leaving behind. Some of these renditions include her
transformation into a pharaoh and how her own propaganda can create the image she is so determined
in leaving behind; to be viewed for both past and present. Hatshepsut s own interpretation of herself
are highly important to understand her motivation and ambitions. Not all views of Hatshepsut s life
can be seen in a positive light, as many modern historians have documented a power struggle with
Thutmose the 3rd. This negative connotation can be demonstrated

Restorative Justice In Canada
Restorative justice is an alternate to plain criminal justice processes, with roots in ancient and
autochthonous types of justice. It focuses on repairing the damage caused by crime, inside the context
of relationships and communities. There is a growing interest in restorative justice as a crucial side of
criminal justice reform in several elements of the globe. Public Safety Canada is at the forefront of
analysis and development during this field.A restorative justice program aims to induce offenders to
require responsibility for his or her actions, to grasp the damage they need caused, to offer them a
chance to redeem themselves and to discourage them from committing additional damage. For
victims, its goal is to offer them a full of life role within the method.Restorative justice is based on an
alternate theory to the standard ways of justice, which regularly specialize in retribution. However,
restorative justice programs will complement ancient ways.Academic assessment of restorative justice
is positive. Most studies recommend it makes offenders less probably to reoffend. A 2007 study
conjointly found that it had highest rate of victim satisfaction and wrongdoer responsibleness of any
methodology of justice.Restorative justice impressed and is an element of the broader study of

Breaking In A Glove Essay
I was five years old when I first put on a baseball glove. No, scratch that, I was five when I first
played baseball. From the time I could open my eyes and look at my dad, I was wearing orange and
black SF Giants gear. Once I had a handle on walking, I was learning to throw and catch. As soon I
was of age, my dad signed me up for T Ball and he gave me my first real glove. Not a cheap faux
leather/polyester mix glove, a genuine, leather glove. I loved that glove, and I held onto it for years.
During those years, I grew quite a bit and it was obvious my glove needed to grow too. My dad took
me to the local Sport Chalet and we started to look at the different gloves. My dad is a veteran of the
sport and we thought we would know which glove would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But any I tried on felt foreign, especially if they were already broken in. My dad and uncle both agree,
concluding that the gloves that were broken in had trust from other people already. Breaking in a
glove is a recurring rite of passage in a player s career. It s during this time where he becomes
acquainted with the glove, which becomes customized to the player. It is impossible to break in a
glove the same way as someone else. The shape of and way we move our catching hand, how we sleep
on it, what kind of practice balls we take, everything breaks down the leather and molds it to fit its
player. It becomes less of an extraneous object and more of a part of him.
In this sense, a player s glove can easily be seen as an extension of himself. When my glove tore, my
confidence in myself started to tear. When I can t trust part of me, I can t trust the rest of me. Players
don t like borrowing gloves because they aren t a part of them. It belongs to someone else and will for
years, both in the past and future. Gloves are not simply leather stitched together to protect a hand.
They are there to enhance the hand on which they are placed. But they can augment a player s skill, if
we put our trust in

Kate Bornstein Essay
Kate Bornstein is a Queer and Pleasant Danger was an incredible documentary. As someone who has
never heard of Kate Bornstein before in their life, I was truly in for a treat. I never expected such a
wide array of topics to be covered I certainly didn t expect to hear about Scientology, but Kate
Bornstein and Sam Feder didn t seem to shy away from any aspect of the former s life. One of the
most interesting parts of the film for me involved Bornstein s interactions with presentist queer
activists through Twitter and her blog posts. She doesn t shy away from discussing how her use of the
term tranny upsets a great majority of her younger audience. In the film, Bornstein claims that her use
of tranny marks her as transphobic to plenty of queer folks. Differences between Bornstein s
perspective and modern transphobia is discussed yet again when Bornstein is speaking with a friend
who slips and uses the wrong pronouns Bornstein lightly teases them, saying that if the wrong
audience had heard him misgender her, they would have called him transphobic. There isn t much I
can say about how I feel about whether or not Bornstein is in the wrong that s never going to be my
call to make. With that in mind, though, Bornstein s insistence in regard to ... Show more content on

As someone who identifies as gender variant, this video was an absolute delight. The idea of a middle
space is wondrous enough to me, but the idea of that being a cultural staple in Hawaiian society truly
pushed me over the edge. I don t think I ll ever be able to emotionally detach myself from films like
this when cultural perspectives (though clearly not applied to all of Hawaiian society) actively help
kids dismantle gender binaries before they frame their entire being. Kane wahine and wahine kane still

Henequen Wheat Complex Analysis
Walking along the aisles of a local home improvement store or even farm, many would not think or
even be aware of twine s vast history in shaping the world around us. However, to a historian much is
known about this commodity and its relation to the henequen wheat complex as well as its effects on
sustainability, economics, and society in both North America and Mexico as described in Sterling
Evan s novel, Bound in Twine. Not only did the henequen wheat complex itself play a significant role
in influencing many aspects within the two regions, but it had numerous benefits and disadvantages
that ultimately changed the history and lives of many affected by its development, particularly those in
Yucatan.

With the increased desire to produce larger amounts on henequen in the Yucatan to support its
monocrop economy, the complex consequently permanently altered the landscape and overall
environment of the state. As mentioned previously, prior to the development of the henequen complex,
the area could be described as a varied landscape on the remarkably flat Yucatan terrain. However, the
Yucatan later bear more resemblance to a patchwork of haciendas, so much so that with the boom in
henequen at the end of the century, haciendas and even the much venerated cattle ranches were
converted to plantations. Thus, the henequen wheat complex played a significant role in permanently
transforming the once diverse ecosystem of the Yucatan into a uniform landscape solely dedicated to
the harvesting of one crop, the henequen. In addition to these environmental alterations, this complex
as well as the established monocrop economy introduced deforestation and subsequent erosion that
would ultimately cause the ecological improvishment of the henequen zone in which it was
economically benefiting from. However, to others the henequen wheat complex can be considered a
sustainable model since after the severe decline of henequen production following the 1980 s, Yucatan
experienced much ecological improvement. Remarkably,

Secondary Employment Police Officers
Secondary employment for police officers should work fine if done properly. Usually, some officers
tend to overextend themselves and the top staff members are a concern if officers are suffering from
fatigue, however, there are positive and negative things from secondary employment. However, a
career path in law enforcement is known to be financially lacking for some city government to provide
for their officers, and secondary employment may be used as a recruiting tool to gain new officers.
Normally, officers need a second job such as the typical citizens do, for expenses, reduce debt, and
simply make ends meet (Brunet, J., 2008). Also, the idea of having more law enforcement officers
throughout the community and shopping mall produces a positive effect, such as deterring shoplifters.
Nonetheless, having secondary employment funds coming in on the regular will discourage police
corruption for some. Police officers working off duty jobs as security officers in some schools has help
ease parent s mind and placing their marked vehicles inconspicuous areas to deter criminal activity
around schools (Caine, R. D. Burlingame, M., Arney, L., 1998). ... Show more content on

Normally, the tax withholding is not removed, therefore problems with the IRS arises. Also, conflict of

As a result of increased corruption in the Catholic Church, a significant number of priests in the 16th
century tried to transform Christianity back to its previous Biblical basis and simplicity. Initially,
priests channeled much of their efforts in reforming the church, but they discovered that it was very
challenging, and the only viable solution was to split completely from the Catholic Church. There
were four movements as a result of the reformation events. They include the Anglicans, Lutherans,

Reformations Theological Issues
Luther identified three major principles that were acknowledged by other Protestant factions.
According to the theological premises, all Christians are mandated to believe in the Scripture s
primacy. The idea means that the Biblical literal meaning should be favored in contrast to any learned
or conventional readings. Christians are also supposed to reject anything not founded in Scripture.
Secondly, justification is by faith alone, and Christians through believing will be saved, and not by
their good works; as maintained by the Catholic Church. The other premise is the priesthood of the
believer. The idea meant that it was not ideal to consider ordained priests as the true spiritual estate
members. Priesthood was eliminated by Luther in Protestant Churches though some still make use of
pastors or ministers to lead.
Apart from the three principals, the Eucharist sacrament was also elucidated by Luther with reference
to consubstantiation. Consubstantiation refers to the assurance that Christ is indeed present in the
Eucharist celebration. The belief is also similar to the transubstantiation doctrine. However, in the
transubstantiation doctrine, it is believed that wine and bread factually change to the blood and body
of Jesus Christ during the

The aqueous solution of silver nitrate, AgNO₃, when added to the aqueous solution of potassium
chloride, forms a bright white precipitate of silver chloride. Using the technique of gravimetric
analysis, the precipitates were extracted from the liquid onto filter paper through the use of vacuum
filtration. The purpose of this aspect of the experiment is to be able to to calculate the molar mass of
the unknown compound precipitate to compare to the known compound of KCl. Due to there being
excess compound remaining in the vacuum, centrifuge tubes were utilized to further extract the
compound from the liquid. A centrifuge works by spinning the substance at a high speed, working to

When holding the wire in the Bunsen flame, which had been previously dipped in the unknown
solution, the edge of the flame appeared to emit a pale green color, which would indicate that our
unknown sample would contain the element barium. This conclusion was incorrect and upon redoing
the Flame test and making the unknown solution more concentrated by adding less water, it was found
that the edge of the flame was actually pale violet in color, indicating that the element in our sample
was potassium. Additionally, in week 1, our group encountered another error while analyzing the
properties of our unknown sample through the anion tests. The two cation tests; Flame and
Ammonium concluded that the first element in our compound was in fact potassium. The problem
arose when conducting the anion test to determine whether the unknown sample was additionally
composed of either a sulfate or a chloride. Initially, our sample tested positive for both sulfate and
chloride due the formations of white precipitates. These results indicated that the unknown sample
would be potassium sulfate, but redoing the experimental test again led to the actual conclusion of a
negative result for sulfate due to the absence of a white precipitate. With only a positive result for
chloride, our unknown sample was in fact potassium chloride. Human error throughout the process of

The Parable Of The Sower
In His teachings, Christ used parables to pass earthly stories with a heavenly meaning to the multitude.
He used parables in His teachings to not only fulfill prophecy but also to enlighten the true hearted to
challenge hardened hearts of the people (Matt. 13:34 35, KJV). Among His parables, the parable of
the sower was the parable inclusive of other parables (soil grounds and the sower) making it one of the
main parables of Christ. Four different soils were used to represent four different kinds of people and a
sower was to represent a teacher of the word of God. The parable of the sower therefore compares
various types of human nature, as the soil grounds and the attitude of people towards the teachings of
Christ.
The seeds that fell on the rocky soil represented the expressive people with a shallow and superficial
belief in Christ s teachings (Matt. 13:5 6, KJV). Christ clarified that the people who receive the word
with joy but turn away when difficulty or persecution comes are emotional as they try to do what they
feel is right in their own way. This explains their lack of commitment towards the teachings of the
word and shallow fading interest soon. Jesus meant to teach that the disciples should preserve and
never to give up by having a strong faith in Him (Colossians 2:6, KJV). The defiant kind of people
with fixed mind and prejudice about the teachings were represented by the seeds that fell on the path
(Matt. 13:3 4, KJV). Christ described the people who could hear

Heathers Essay
The movie that I have chosen is a classic film from 1988 called Heathers. Heathers is an American
cult black comedy film written by Daniel Waters and directed by Michael Lehmann. The film portrays
four teenage girls three of whom are named Heather in a clique and a teen named Veronica Sawyer
who desperately wants to fit in, as well as a crazy and unstable boy named J.D that plans to ruin it all.
The focus of this essay will be on three characters. Analyzing their internal and external battles, as
well as their social interactions with loved ones and other members of their fictional society. To begin,
I will focus on Veronica Sawyer. Out of the entire movie Veronica has the most stable family. Born as
an only child, her mom and dad were active and involved parents. Veronica attended an Ohio high
school where she met the heathers . The heathers were three extremely popular teens that ran the
school and Veronica wanted nothing more than to be like them. The looking glass self has a very
prominent role in regards to Veronica. She viewed herself as less because she was not as popular or
liked as the Heathers. One night after being harassed by the Heathers at a party, Veronica and J.D (a
boy she began seeing) went to Heather Chandler s house with hopes to be accepted by her. After
Heather had embarrassed Veronica in front of J.D Heather asks for a drink. While Veronica was not

Psychoanalyticism In The Tempest
The Tempest Critical Essay
During this course of the play the psychoanalytical criticism can be applied while reading the scenes
in The Tempest. As Freud argues that all humans have a dark side to them, we tend to hide this side of
us as we get older. In the Tempest, Caliban could represent this uncontrolled side of human nature.
Caliban is seen to be the superego which is can be seen to be evident when he does not wish to receive
Prospero s physical punishments. Despite his punishments, his desires fail to remain within him.
Caliban is also missing his mother in this play which leads him to feel inadequacy. Prospero is one of
the only obstacles between him and Miranda. Prospero s desire for power and control over the
characters in the play, shows Freud s theory coming into play, if one craves power, it is possibly
because one has lacked in its childhood.
This play has symbols that represent the imagery in it. The symbol water is often shown through this
play either by saying or showing it. The image of water is often shown to be deadly. As Ferdinand lost
his father at sea, he deems to think that his father drowned as they were involved in a shipwreck.
Water plays a huge symbol and image in this play as the setting takes place on an Island near the
Bermuda Triangle. Water in this play is to be seen as a lost. Ariel s song leads Ferdinand to think that
his father drowned at sea and is gone forever. Ariel s song

Negative Effects Of Technology And Social Media
Technology and social media in today s world are evolving tremendously. When stepping outside into
the streets, a rare count of faces appear to be looking up. Instead those faces are being shoved into
their phones. These two objects are becoming so intriguing, that many lose sight of the beautiful city
or town they are currently roaming through. Today people rely solely on technology instead of
interacting face to face. It is destroying the interaction between people communicating in person.
Communicating and connecting in person is a vital source all over the world, without it people will
become lost, the use of technology and social media should be limited. Many believe social media is
the answer to almost all problems happening in their lives. Feeling sad? Easiest way to fix that is to
watch funny videos on YouTube or play Pandora music. Bored? Candy crush or Imessage games on
the iPhone is the got to. Interested in seeing what friends or family members are up to? Just check
Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, or Twitter. Many believe that each application that is available for
download are great and essential for having a phone. When it comes to texting or calling, according to
the essay No Need to Call , Sherry Turkle makes it well known that people today would rather text
than call and talk over the phone or in person. Not only do people say that a phone call asks too much,
they worry it will be received as demanding too much (Turkle 375). They believe that talking over the
phone is a big burden to others, so they rather email or send a text message so that others can reply on
their own time. The use of technology and social media, helps to find valuable information easy. There
is no waiting on a letter, telegram, or tuning into the radio at a certain time of the day. It is as simple as
logging onto a computer or telephone, and accessing the internet browser to complete a Google,
Yahoo, or Bing search. The answer for majority of the questions will show up immediately. In the

The Power Struggles in Jury of Her Peers and Mama Come Home
The issue of dominance and subordinance is addressed in the short stories A Jury of her Peers by
Susan Glaspell and Mama Come Home by James Tiptree, Jr. In the stories the subordinates are
harmed by the dominants, but the subordinates overcome the suppression to triumph in the end. The
groups with the power control the laws and the positions of the weaker group.
To begin with, A Jury of her Peers is about the way women in 1917 were treated by men. The main
women characters are Minnie Wright, Mrs. Peters, and Mrs. Hale. The women in the story are
confined to their homes; rarely getting to go to town or visit with their friends. The women did not

The men also think all the housework the women do and the things they worry about are trifles. The
women receive no credit for their work. Dirty towels! Not much of a housekeeper, would you say,
ladies? (Glaspell 264) The women become depressed and lonely.
The subordinates are harmed both physically and emotionally in the story Mama Come Home. The
giant women overpower the smaller men. They beat the men and rape them. The giant women use the
men as sex slaves. They see the men as inferior and only good for sex. The men are physically harmed
because they are bruised and beaten by the Capellans. The standing one had my neck in a vise at arm s
length, and when I worked the standard finger bend she laughed like a deep bell and casually twisted
up my arm until things broke. (Tiptree 69) They are emotionally damaged because they are taken
advantage of. Anyone that is raped becomes torn up inside.
In the story Jury of her Peers, the women are thought of as inferior. The men treat the women like they
are not able to do the same things as the men. But would the women know a clue if they did come
upon it? (Glaspell 266) The women have feminine intuition. They know the pain from isolation that
Minnie was going through and know what clues to look for. Again, for one brief moment, the two
women s eyes found one another. (Glaspell 280) The men underestimate that the women can think on
this level.

Nutrition For Health And Development
Parents become more stressed
Circle of anxiety compounding feeding difficulties. (Hall and Elliman 2003)
It is well recognized that household food insecurity is one of the three underlying causes of
malnutrition. At the international conference of nutrition (ICN) held in Rome in 1992, food security
was defined in its most basic form as physical, social and economic access by all people at all times to
sufficient, safe and nutritious food which meets their dietary needs and food preference for an active
and healthy life. Thus, food insecurity exists when people lack access to sufficient amount of safe and
nutritious food, therefore not consuming the food required for normal growth and development, for an
active and healthy life. This may be due to the unavailability of food insufficient purchasing power,

Comparing The Gospel Book Of Sorrow With The St. Matthew

Compare and contrast the St. Matthew page from the Gospel Book of Durrow with the St. Matthew

context and formal analysis in the course of your answer while considering the production techniques
required to create illuminated manuscripts.
The Gospel of Matthew was written in various cultures books, it would be introduced in a different

Analysis Of Why We Fear The Unknown, By Jeffrey Winters
Throughout human history, before the 19th century the role of the african people has always been
unknown and mysterious to the Europeans. Based on a psychology article written by Jeffrey Winters
titled Why we fear the unknown from psychology today stated that, we can be conditioned to fear or
discriminate against those who differ from ourselves by characteristics as superficial as eye color.
Even simple things such as ideas and idologies can contribute to fear (Winters, 1). This statement was
backed by a study that was conducted by Harvard about how some people showed some fear when
they see a middle eastern man at an airport, and these people didn t even consider themselves superior
toward the middle eastern people. Granted these studies

DNA Fingerprinting To begin with, law enforcement should be allowed to use DNA profiling in
criminal investigations because it can help investigators figure out exactly who the guilty party is and
it would eliminate false accusations. More than 2,000 people have been exonerated of serious crimes
since 1989 in the United States, according to a report by college researchers who have established the
first national registry of exonerations. Many people have been mistakenly accused and convicted of a
crime, because of this law enforcement should be allowed to use DNA fingerprinting.
First, using DNA can help you figure out exactly who the person is. (DNA fingerprinting) claims that,

Media Violence and Its Effect on Society
Media Violence And Its Effect On Society
Does entertainment influence society s attitude towards violent behavior? In order to fully answer this
question we must first understand what violence is. Violence is the use of one s powers to inflict
mental or physical injury upon another; examples of this would be rape or murder. Violence in
entertainment reaches the public by way of television, movies, video games, music, and novels.
Violent images on television, as well as in the movies, have inspired people to set spouses on fire in
their beds, lie down in the middle of highways, extort money by placing bombs in airplanes, rape,
steal, murder, and commit numerous other shootings and assaults. Over 1,000 case studies have
proven that media ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These children do not understand that the violence is shown strictly because the public wants to see it.
They cannot grasp the meaning of ratings and entertainment as well as adults can. All they know is, if
the TV portrays violence as cool, then it must be cool! The problem isn t the violence in the media
though; it is the media s failure to show the consequences of violence. This is especially true of
cartoons, toy commercials, and music videos. Children often do not realize that it hurts to hit someone
else because they see it all the time on TV. Everyday a cartoon character is beat up, injured, or killed,
only to return in the very next episode, good as new. As a result, children learn that there are few, if
any repercussions for committing violent acts.
In a recent incident in Norway, two children beat another child by jumping and kicking the child in the
head and other parts of her body numerous times. As a result, the child died from being left out in the
cold because she was not able to move due to her injuries. Later the officials had discovered that the
barbaric incident was due to the fact that the children had watched the violent cartoon Mighty
Morphin Power Rangers. The children thought that the girl would later get up because in the show the
characters never die. Consequently, the show Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was canceled
throughout Norway.

Revenge And Revenge In William Shakespeare s Hamlet
Being the prince of a nation offers all ideals for a twenty something year old man: wealth, beautiful
women, a strong and well respected father as king, power, and other commonly desirable perks. When
father is king, immunity is granted not a single person would want to mess with the king s only son.
But what would happen if the king gets brutally murdered by family? In William Shakespeare s
Hamlet, young Hamlet discovers that his father was savagely poisoned by his own brother, Claudius.
Upon hearing this news, Hamlet acquires but one thought revenge; after all, the man who young
Hamlet had looked up to the most his own father had his life taken by family. When placed in a large

Hamlet makes the right decision when he decides to not kill Claudius (at least, not immediately).
When a situation involves death, achieving revenge can be complicated because at first not all the
details of the circumstances are presented; therefore, it is necessary to wait and allow things to get
cleared up before any large decisions are made. Hamlet, instead, chooses to set up a play where the
actors demonstrate a scene that comes near the circumstances... of [his] father s death (Act III, Scene
II, ll. 81 82) in order to see how Claudius would respond. During this part Claudius gets up from his
seat and leaves in anger, signifying that he did in fact kill his former brother and king. Had Hamlet not
cleverly set up this performance, his reaction to his father s death might have been extreme and out of
proportion. The former king of Norway s son, on the contrary, does not plan a justifiable revenge;
...young Fortinbras, of unimproved mettle hot and full.. wishes to recover of [Denmark] those foresaid
lands so by his father lost (Act I, Scene I, ll. 107 108, 114 116). The Norwegian prince chooses to not
pay attention to the details of how his father died and lost some of his country s land; therefore, his
actions would not be honorable and heroic. Although he would be taking back what his people lost,
the land was surrendered fairly. Deeds of vengeance must be equivalent in severity or less in order to
be viewed honorably, or else society would view the action as

In common sense thought, race is simply a fact: humans are not all alike, there are whites, blacks and
yellows, maybe reds and browns too, and these different kinds are races, and that s just a feature of the
way the world is. However, recent work on the concept of race shows that race and race talk can be
understood by analogy to what Foucault suggests about psychiatry and mental illness coming into
being together: (1) it is now beginning to appear than race and racism came into existence together as
well. It is racism that has made talk of race something that we can take seriously. A statement

The distinction Heidegger proposed in Being and Time (4) between several senses of being became
the starting point of existential phenomenology, and the subsequent work of Sartre and deBeauvoir, on
which I will draw in a moment, derives important ideas from it.
Specifically, I want to distinguish between three meanings of being with respect to the meaning of
race , deriving from the discourse of existential phenomenology. With this distinction, I believe it is
possible to gain some insight into the problem of race and the question of truth.
Vorhandenheit and Existenz are Heidegger s words for a distinction between two senses of being ;
Vorhandenheit has come to be known in English as presence at hand , but substantiality is another way
to sum up its meaning. This refers to the kind of being that we attribute to, for instance, natural
phenomena. When we ask what is it? with regard to some natural phenomenon, we are expecting, and
will be satisfied with, an account of what the thing is composed of; this answer speaks of the object
not primarily in terms of its usefulness, its value, its relation to other things, but primarily in terms of
itself independently. In contrast, to name the kind of being that humans have, Heidegger uses the word
existence , and by it he means especially to call attention to the fact of care:

John Locke Freedom Analysis
John Locke was one of the first philosophers out of many who protested about government not giving
the people the freedom that they deserve. As we know Locke and Hobbes are great thinkers, however
they had divergent belief in the way they see the human. Throughout Locke s life, he had various
sublime ideas which tells that the power of monarchy (Kings) and monarchs should be limited and
they should respect the rights of their citizens. Locke s implicitly refuted the idea that Kings rule
people according to the divine right, and defended that the human being should have the natural rights.
For Locke s believes people deserve freedom, though there were rules that was implemented, it
shouldn t be strict to have an order society. An example in a class, having a terror professor will gives
nervous breakdown feeling to student because of being very strict rule. Then result, some of the
students will be afraid to give their opinion freely, or some might drop their subjects to this professor.
So how can this professor produce a very organized and productive class if his/her students were
frightened by his strict rules. Unlike having a professor who have minimize rules but got sense of
humor the students will feel at ease to share their ideas and they will be courage to pursue more their
studies for better future. Locke also says that if the monarchy or the government fails to resect people
s natural rights the people are allowed throw away the people who are responsible for

Critism in Plato
What is life? This is the one question that to this day still cannot be answered. Over the years millions
of people have had there own interpretation of what is means to live. However the quest to answer this
rhetorical question goes back to the golden days of Greek civilization when the worlds greatest
philosophers first attempted to find the answers to this question. As his position takes form in the
Republic, Plato claims that only a very few individuals are capable of understanding how human life
is to be lived. If it could be done, the rest of us would be best off it we were to let out lives be

Also you can t blame him because as it is visible in the Republic, Thrasymachus says, I declare justice
is nothing but the advantage of the stronger . All that this quote basically incorporates is that justice is
nothing to normal people but in essence it s just an advantage to those people who are rulers and are
stronger than the ordinary people. He brings up a great point stating that when robbery and violence
are practiced by normal people its considered injustice, however when this is practiced by mass or
most often by rulers or those in charge its considered justice. Since the rulers themselves do not obey
the principles that they impose on the citizens, they are themselves unjust . Because of this the tyrant
himself is happy because he breaks the rules of justice that he imposes on the weak people below him.
When you are allowing yourself to be governed and controlled by someone else rather than yourself it
is not justice it s basically considered slavery. These are all the ideas brought upon by Thrasymachus
in the Republic. However on the other hand in Book I of the Republic Plato s mentor Socrates tries
and contests Thrasymachus ideas. Socartes brings up a great point in saying that if the weak
themselves were strong enough to prevent someone from becoming a tyrant then they themselves are
strong meaning they don t need help. Socartes basically insists that a lot of the power of the man has

As stated in our text, various factors can bind married couples together, such as economic
interdependencies, legal, social and moral constraints, relationship, and amongst other things. In the
recent years some of these factors have diminished their strengths. The modern generation sees
marriage in a different perspective altogether. Individuals today feel they are stable independently,

Leading up the battle of Yorktown, in February, 1781, Major General Marquis de Lafayette was

army had entered Virginia believing that if the American forces had resistance, he would have victory
against the Americans and the French. Later that year in August on 1 2, 1781 Cornwallis and his army
set up at Gloucester point, hoping to use it as a base for supply and weapons. Couple of weeks later,
Washington heard about the base and sent a large army to destroy Cornwallis base. A month later on
September 14, 1781, French General Rochambeau and General Washington arrived, and sent 400
French soldiers and 400 American soldiers to storm the British redoubt. On October 19, 1781, being

The Air Pollution And The Water Pollution
Cancer it is one of those words that people whisper in hush tones behind closed doors. It s the type of
word that brings nothing but heartbreak. The second the words you have cancer are said, the clock
starts ticking away at the time you have left louder than an airhorn. Cancer uncovers the fighters that
have been hidden away. It is one of the worst battles to fight, because ultimately it is already a battle
lost. In 2012, 14.1 million people were diagnosed with cancer. In that same year 8.2 million people
died from it. There is predicted to be 23.6 million people diagnosed with cancer each year by 2030.
(CancerResearchUK) However, some countries suffer more than others. China alone is responsible for
22% of new cancer cases and almost 27% of global cancer deaths (CancerStatisticsinChina). Why is
cancer such an issue here? Outside of genetics, this is largely due to the country s polluted
environments, specifically the air pollution and the water pollution. China began seeing an increase in
cancer a few decades ago when their industrial movement began. Pollution from the factories seem to
be the leading cause of cancer in the Chinese population. This is a major socioeconomic issue because
in order to clean the environment, factories would be forced to close or relocate. Initially, the Chinese
government denied that cancer was a byproduct of pollution. Although recently they were forced to

  • 2. Alex In A Clockwork Orange In Depth Character Analysis on Alex Besides the protagonist in A Clockwork Orange, who is Alex? Many times we only look at main characters with an outsiders perspective. The characteristics of a character are important, but the main characters are often made to be so much more in the inside by the author. Most simply, from an outward perspective, who is Alex? What shaped Alex to be violent? How might have other characters influenced him to be the leader of a gang? Where did Alex s actions leave him and did Alex understand that where he was left was avoidable? And finally, in his actions, good and bad, was there personal growth? These are all questions to explore while diving in to who Alex is from the inside. Most simply, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alex is eventually shown, although the hard way, that violence (and overall, evil) is not the way one can live their life forever. After getting away with countless crimes, two of his droogs set him up. Alex is rightfully taken into the hands of the police officers and put in prison for the killing of an innocent woman. In this prison he is the first to be chosen and tested on with the Ludovico Technique, a correctional technique for criminals. This technique was a two week process of torture. Insuring that Alex couldn t move his body to interfere with the technique, two scientists had Alex put in a straight jacket and strapped down with his eyes held open by metal clamps. The scientists gave him nausea inducing liquid and would then play movies in front of him of crimes he had committed in the past, beating men and women profusely and raping women. This technique was thought to retrain and reform the criminal s brain. However, one of the more horrific movies was accompanied by classical music, the only nonviolent enjoyment Alex ever connected to. QUOTE From then on Alex gagged at the attempt to raise his fist to another person in the same way that he gagged at the sound of classical music. The doctors though, deemed his treatment to be successful and sent him out into the world a reformed man . Alex s violence resulted in treatment that then resulted to him not being able to ... These ideas of a prosperous image must also take into consideration the legacy she is determined in leaving behind. Some of these renditions include her transformation into a pharaoh and how her own propaganda can create the image she is so determined in leaving behind; to be viewed for both past and present. Hatshepsut s own interpretation of herself are highly important to understand her motivation and ambitions. • 5. Breaking In A Glove Essay I was five years old when I first put on a baseball glove. No, scratch that, I was five when I first played baseball. From the time I could open my eyes and look at my dad, I was wearing orange and black SF Giants gear. Once I had a handle on walking, I was learning to throw and catch. As soon I was of age, my dad signed me up for T Ball and he gave me my first real glove. Not a cheap faux leather/polyester mix glove, a genuine, leather glove. I loved that glove, and I held onto it for years. During those years, I grew quite a bit and it was obvious my glove needed to grow too. My dad took me to the local Sport Chalet and we started to look at the different gloves. My dad is a veteran of the sport and we thought we would know which glove would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But any I tried on felt foreign, especially if they were already broken in. My dad and uncle both agree, concluding that the gloves that were broken in had trust from other people already. Breaking in a glove is a recurring rite of passage in a player s career. It s during this time where he becomes acquainted with the glove, which becomes customized to the player. It is impossible to break in a glove the same way as someone else. The shape of and way we move our catching hand, how we sleep on it, what kind of practice balls we take, everything breaks down the leather and molds it to fit its player. It becomes less of an extraneous object and more of a part of him. In this sense, a player s glove can easily be seen as an extension of himself. When my glove tore, my confidence in myself started to tear. When I can t trust part of me, I can t trust the rest of me. Players don t like borrowing gloves because they aren t a part of them. It belongs to someone else and will for years, both in the past and future. Gloves are not simply leather stitched together to protect a hand. They are there to enhance the hand on which they are placed. But they can augment a player s skill, if we put our trust in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Kate Bornstein Essay Kate Bornstein is a Queer and Pleasant Danger was an incredible documentary. As someone who has never heard of Kate Bornstein before in their life, I was truly in for a treat. I never expected such a wide array of topics to be covered I certainly didn t expect to hear about Scientology, but Kate Bornstein and Sam Feder didn t seem to shy away from any aspect of the former s life. One of the most interesting parts of the film for me involved Bornstein s interactions with presentist queer activists through Twitter and her blog posts. She doesn t shy away from discussing how her use of the term tranny upsets a great majority of her younger audience. In the film, Bornstein claims that her use of tranny marks her as transphobic to plenty of queer folks. Differences between Bornstein s perspective and modern transphobia is discussed yet again when Bornstein is speaking with a friend who slips and uses the wrong pronouns Bornstein lightly teases them, saying that if the wrong audience had heard him misgender her, they would have called him transphobic. There isn t much I can say about how I feel about whether or not Bornstein is in the wrong that s never going to be my call to make. With that in mind, though, Bornstein s insistence in regard to ... The idea of a middle space is wondrous enough to me, but the idea of that being a cultural staple in Hawaiian society truly pushed me over the edge. Henequen Wheat Complex Analysis Walking along the aisles of a local home improvement store or even farm, many would not think or even be aware of twine s vast history in shaping the world around us. However, to a historian much is known about this commodity and its relation to the henequen wheat complex as well as its effects on sustainability, economics, and society in both North America and Mexico as described in Sterling Evan s novel, Bound in Twine. Not only did the henequen wheat complex itself play a significant role in influencing many aspects within the two regions, but it had numerous benefits and disadvantages that ultimately changed the history and lives of many affected by its development, particularly those in Yucatan.  Dependency  Political policies The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the increased desire to produce larger amounts on henequen in the Yucatan to support its monocrop economy, the complex consequently permanently altered the landscape and overall environment of the state. As mentioned previously, prior to the development of the henequen complex, the area could be described as a varied landscape on the remarkably flat Yucatan terrain. However, the Yucatan later bear more resemblance to a patchwork of haciendas, so much so that with the boom in henequen at the end of the century, haciendas and even the much venerated cattle ranches were converted to plantations. Thus, the henequen wheat complex played a significant role in permanently transforming the once diverse ecosystem of the Yucatan into a uniform landscape solely dedicated to the harvesting of one crop, the henequen. In addition to these environmental alterations, this complex as well as the established monocrop economy introduced deforestation and subsequent erosion that would ultimately cause the ecological improvishment of the henequen zone in which it was economically benefiting from. However, to others the henequen wheat complex can be considered a sustainable model since after the severe decline of henequen production following the 1980 s, Yucatan experienced much ecological improvement. Usually, some officers tend to overextend themselves and the top staff members are a concern if officers are suffering from fatigue, however, there are positive and negative things from secondary employment. However, a career path in law enforcement is known to be financially lacking for some city government to provide for their officers, and secondary employment may be used as a recruiting tool to gain new officers. Normally, officers need a second job such as the typical citizens do, for expenses, reduce debt, and simply make ends meet (Brunet, J., 2008). Also, the idea of having more law enforcement officers throughout the community and shopping mall produces a positive effect, such as deterring shoplifters. Nonetheless, having secondary employment funds coming in on the regular will discourage police corruption for some. KEITH GOAD LIBERTY UNIVERSITY NOVEMBER 05, 2013 As a result of increased corruption in the Catholic Church, a significant number of priests in the 16th century tried to transform Christianity back to its previous Biblical basis and simplicity. Initially, priests channeled much of their efforts in reforming the church, but they discovered that it was very challenging, and the only viable solution was to split completely from the Catholic Church. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He continued to preach and write; enabling him to carry on with reformation. Reformations Theological Issues Luther identified three major principles that were acknowledged by other Protestant factions. According to the theological premises, all Christians are mandated to believe in the Scripture s primacy. The idea means that the Biblical literal meaning should be favored in contrast to any learned or conventional readings. Christians are also supposed to reject anything not founded in Scripture. Secondly, justification is by faith alone, and Christians through believing will be saved, and not by their good works; as maintained by the Catholic Church. The other premise is the priesthood of the believer. The idea meant that it was not ideal to consider ordained priests as the true spiritual estate members. Priesthood was eliminated by Luther in Protestant Churches though some still make use of pastors or ministers to lead. Apart from the three principals, the Eucharist sacrament was also elucidated by Luther with reference to consubstantiation. Consubstantiation refers to the assurance that Christ is indeed present in the Eucharist celebration. The belief is also similar to the transubstantiation doctrine. This conclusion was incorrect and upon redoing the Flame test and making the unknown solution more concentrated by adding less water, it was found that the edge of the flame was actually pale violet in color, indicating that the element in our sample was potassium. Additionally, in week 1, our group encountered another error while analyzing the properties of our unknown sample through the anion tests. The two cation tests; Flame and Ammonium concluded that the first element in our compound was in fact potassium. The problem arose when conducting the anion test to determine whether the unknown sample was additionally composed of either a sulfate or a chloride. Initially, our sample tested positive for both sulfate and chloride due the formations of white precipitates. These results indicated that the unknown sample would be potassium sulfate, but redoing the experimental test again led to the actual conclusion of a negative result for sulfate due to the absence of a white precipitate. • 12. The Parable Of The Sower In His teachings, Christ used parables to pass earthly stories with a heavenly meaning to the multitude. He used parables in His teachings to not only fulfill prophecy but also to enlighten the true hearted to challenge hardened hearts of the people (Matt. 13:34 35, KJV). Among His parables, the parable of the sower was the parable inclusive of other parables (soil grounds and the sower) making it one of the main parables of Christ. Four different soils were used to represent four different kinds of people and a sower was to represent a teacher of the word of God. The parable of the sower therefore compares various types of human nature, as the soil grounds and the attitude of people towards the teachings of Christ. The seeds that fell on the rocky soil represented the expressive people with a shallow and superficial belief in Christ s teachings (Matt. 13:5 6, KJV). Christ clarified that the people who receive the word with joy but turn away when difficulty or persecution comes are emotional as they try to do what they feel is right in their own way. This explains their lack of commitment towards the teachings of the word and shallow fading interest soon. Jesus meant to teach that the disciples should preserve and never to give up by having a strong faith in Him (Colossians 2:6, KJV). • 13. Heathers Essay The movie that I have chosen is a classic film from 1988 called Heathers. Heathers is an American cult black comedy film written by Daniel Waters and directed by Michael Lehmann. The film portrays four teenage girls three of whom are named Heather in a clique and a teen named Veronica Sawyer who desperately wants to fit in, as well as a crazy and unstable boy named J.D that plans to ruin it all. The focus of this essay will be on three characters. Analyzing their internal and external battles, as well as their social interactions with loved ones and other members of their fictional society. To begin, I will focus on Veronica Sawyer. Out of the entire movie Veronica has the most stable family. Born as an only child, her mom and dad were active and involved parents. Veronica attended an Ohio high school where she met the heathers . The heathers were three extremely popular teens that ran the school and Veronica wanted nothing more than to be like them. The looking glass self has a very prominent role in regards to Veronica. She viewed herself as less because she was not as popular or liked as the Heathers. One night after being harassed by the Heathers at a party, Veronica and J.D (a boy she began seeing) went to Heather Chandler s house with hopes to be accepted by her. After Heather had embarrassed Veronica in front of J.D Heather asks for a drink. While Veronica was not looking J.D poured laundry detergent into the cup thus killing Heather Chandler. • 16. Psychoanalyticism In The Tempest The Tempest Critical Essay During this course of the play the psychoanalytical criticism can be applied while reading the scenes in The Tempest. As Freud argues that all humans have a dark side to them, we tend to hide this side of us as we get older. In the Tempest, Caliban could represent this uncontrolled side of human nature. Caliban is seen to be the superego which is can be seen to be evident when he does not wish to receive Prospero s physical punishments. Despite his punishments, his desires fail to remain within him. Caliban is also missing his mother in this play which leads him to feel inadequacy. Prospero is one of the only obstacles between him and Miranda. Prospero s desire for power and control over the characters in the play, shows Freud s theory coming into play, if one craves power, it is possibly because one has lacked in its childhood. This play has symbols that represent the imagery in it. The symbol water is often shown through this play either by saying or showing it. The image of water is often shown to be deadly. As Ferdinand lost his father at sea, he deems to think that his father drowned as they were involved in a shipwreck. (Hall and Elliman 2003) It is well recognized that household food insecurity is one of the three underlying causes of malnutrition. At the international conference of nutrition (ICN) held in Rome in 1992, food security was defined in its most basic form as physical, social and economic access by all people at all times to sufficient, safe and nutritious food which meets their dietary needs and food preference for an active and healthy life. Thus, food insecurity exists when people lack access to sufficient amount of safe and nutritious food, therefore not consuming the food required for normal growth and development, for an active and healthy life. This may be due to the unavailability of food insufficient purchasing power, inappropriate distribution, or inadequate utilization at household level. Food insecurity, poor conditions of health and sanitation and inappropriate social and care environment are the major causes of poor nutritional status. In order to fully answer this question we must first understand what violence is. Violence is the use of one s powers to inflict mental or physical injury upon another; examples of this would be rape or murder. Violence in entertainment reaches the public by way of television, movies, video games, music, and novels. Violent images on television, as well as in the movies, have inspired people to set spouses on fire in their beds, lie down in the middle of highways, extort money by placing bombs in airplanes, rape, steal, murder, and commit numerous other shootings and assaults. The problem isn t the violence in the media though; it is the media s failure to show the consequences of violence. This is especially true of cartoons, toy commercials, and music videos. Children often do not realize that it hurts to hit someone else because they see it all the time on TV. Everyday a cartoon character is beat up, injured, or killed, only to return in the very next episode, good as new. As a result, children learn that there are few, if any repercussions for committing violent acts. In a recent incident in Norway, two children beat another child by jumping and kicking the child in the head and other parts of her body numerous times. As a result, the child died from being left out in the cold because she was not able to move due to her injuries. He brings up a great point stating that when robbery and violence are practiced by normal people its considered injustice, however when this is practiced by mass or most often by rulers or those in charge its considered justice. Since the rulers themselves do not obey the principles that they impose on the citizens, they are themselves unjust . Because of this the tyrant himself is happy because he breaks the rules of justice that he imposes on the weak people below him. When you are allowing yourself to be governed and controlled by someone else rather than yourself it is not justice it s basically considered slavery. These are all the ideas brought upon by Thrasymachus in the Republic. However on the other hand in Book I of the Republic Plato s mentor Socrates tries and contests Thrasymachus ideas. Socartes brings up a great point in saying that if the weak themselves were strong enough to prevent someone from becoming a tyrant then they themselves are strong meaning they don t need help. Socartes basically insists that a lot of the power of the man has to do with his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the recent years some of these factors have diminished their strengths. The modern generation sees marriage in a different perspective altogether. However sitting here thinking about this question, within my family and my extended family, there are number of members that have remarried and there are step families. These members are not from my generation, they are from two or three generation before mine. So the question about acceptance now and in the past is questionable. My guess is that step families were always around, now people are more open about the matter. This makes sense as to why I didn t know about these step family members until now. There is predicted to be 23.6 million people diagnosed with cancer each year by 2030. (CancerResearchUK) However, some countries suffer more than others. China alone is responsible for 22% of new cancer cases and almost 27% of global cancer deaths (CancerStatisticsinChina). Why is cancer such an issue here? Outside of genetics, this is largely due to the country s polluted environments, specifically the air pollution and the water pollution. China began seeing an increase in cancer a few decades ago when their industrial movement began. Pollution from the factories seem to be the leading cause of cancer in the Chinese population. This is a major socioeconomic issue because in order to clean the environment, factories would be forced to close or relocate. Initially, the Chinese government denied that cancer was a byproduct of pollution. Although recently they were forced to acknowledge its effect and has since been making an effort to clean their ...
