Essay about Methods of Characterization in The Hairy Ape
Methods of Characterization in The Hairy Ape
Eugene Gladstone O Neill was born October 16, 1888, to Irish American parents in New York City.
His mother, Ella O Neill, reserved and genteel (Sheaffer 15), came from a prosperous Cleveland
family. His father, James O Neill, from a poor family, was an actor who became synonymous with
Dumas Count of Monte Cristo, a role he performed over 3000 times (Sheaffer 8). Driven by fear of
poverty, James worked nonstop and constantly tried his hand at get rich quick schemes, such as
buying and selling real estate. Eugene had one older brother James. During Eugene s early years, the
family toured around the country with James Sr. s acting company and spent each

O Neill married Agnes Boulton in 1918, and Shane Rudraight O Neill was born October 20,
1922. O Neill won his first Pulitzer Prize for Beyond the Horizon (1920). He won two more for Anna
Christie (1922) and Strange Interlude (1928) and one posthumously for
Long Day s Journey into Night (1957). In 1929, O Neill divorced Agnes and married
Carlotta Monterey, his third and final wife. O Neill received the Nobel Prize for literature in 1936,
recognition of his work as possibly America s most influential dramatist. Later in his life he developed
Parkinson s disease which severely hampered his ability to write. In November 1953, O Neill
developed pneumonia. Exhausted, he was confined to a room in a Boston hotel. Shortly before he
died, he sat up and cried, I knew it, I knew it! Born in a [hotel room] and dying in a hotel room!
(Sheaffer 24). He died November 27.
The Hairy Ape (1921) chronicles the social snobbishness (Carpenter 31) Eugene
O Neill encountered during his stints as a crewmember on passenger liners to and from
Europe. For The Hairy Ape, O Neill took cues from the expressionists and employed
[techniques] of anti realism such as the conscious use of symbolism, the use of masks, and other
techniques which would suggest the sharp division between the surface reality and the subconscious
mind (Carpenter 52). While many people

Psychological Abuse In Women
For many woman, it isn t as simply as it seems to pack up and leave their abusers. Many people would
agree that would be the obvious choice but many women who are habituated to the abuse are
frequently unable to step back and take stock of the bigger picture. Their abuser could have threatened
them if they attempt to leave, or the amount of Psychological Abuse the abuser has done to them
makes it hard to leave. They may be filled with guilt or shame. In addition, a woman s uncertainty
over finances or inability to manage the situation could result in anxiety and feelings of helplessness.
They are often blamed by their abuser and frequently blame themselves for the abusive situation.

Holden Caulfield Explicit Language
The story of Holden Caulfield, from the book Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, starts from from the
point of view of Holden; where he is being treated for a nervous breakdown after being kicked out of
Pencey Prep. for the death of his little brother Allie. While the book does have multiple instances of
explicit language and suggestive themes, we think that the book is appropriate to be used in the 10th
grade English curriculum. While it does have foul language and suggestive themes, kids in modern
day High School have access to much more explicit and suggestive content. Also, even if it was
written around the 1950s, both the difficulty and the timeliness is still relatively easy to understand
and relate to. While there are numerous examples of swearing throughout the entire book; we think
that the book is actually appropriate for the 10th grade curriculum. First, kids these days have access
to much more explicit media with much more suggestive themes. Two, kids are much more influenced
by mass media than a few years ago. Finally, kids in High School ... Show more content on

Almost everyone can relate to this novel due to it being about the hardships and accomplishments on a
young adult s life. In many ways, the novel portrays a similar theme of a teenagers experience in New
York. For example, when Holden is talking about is life in New York he claims I hate living in New
York and all. Taxicabs, and Madison avenue buses, with the drivers and all always yelling at you to
get out at the rear door (17.41 55). This quote portrays Holden s point of view on New York in
general. Many teenagers today feel the same way about people and public transportation. They may be
under the thought that the world is horrible and out to get them. One thing teenagers might not relate
to is the underage drinking shown in bars and Holdens lifestyle while living

Subway Is Testing A New Rebranding Campaign
Overview
On August 18, 2015, longtime Subway pitchman Jared Fogle was arrested under a child pornography
investigation. Quick to respond, Subway communicated to press via public comment and Twitter on
their stance. Hours after the arrest, Subway made public its separation from Fogle and its disgust and
lack of knowledge of the crimes committed. Because of their quick response, while they were directly
tied to Fogle, most of the negative response was placed on Fogle and not Subway. Moving forward,
Subway is testing a new rebranding campaign in Australia that focuses on products, rather than a
pitchman.
Company History:
In 1965, a 17 year old medical school student, Fred DeLuca, opened up a submarine sandwich shop in
Connecticut on a $1,000 loan from a friend. By 1982, the chain had opened up its 300th location. In
1984, the Subway sandwich chain was introduced overseas and by 1990, there were more than 5,000
locations. Today, Subway has the most sandwich restaurants in the world at 37,000 locations (3).
Known for their freshly baked bread and healthy options, Subway restaurants are located in schools,
malls, gas stations, airports and even zoos. In 1995, the Subway began its journey towards becoming a
major supporter of motorsports. In 1996, www.subway.com was launched and was featured multiple
times in the movie Happy Gilmore (3). In 1999, an article was written about an overweight college
student who lost a large amount of weight eating nothing but Subway sandwiches

A Speech On My First Lecture
President Pitzer, Mr. Vice President, Governor, Congressman Thomas, Senator Wiley, and
Congressman Miller, Mr. Webb, Mr. Bell, scientists, distinguished guests, and ladies and gentlemen: I
appreciate your president having made me an honorary visiting professor, and I will assure you that
my first lecture will be very brief. I am delighted to be here, and I m particularly delighted to be here
on this occasion. We meet at a college noted for knowledge, in a city noted for progress, in a State
noted for strength, and we stand in need of all three, for we meet in an hour of change and challenge,
in a decade of hope and fear, in an age of both knowledge and ignorance. The greater our knowledge
increases, the greater our ignorance unfolds. Despite the striking fact that most of the scientists that
the world has ever known are alive and working today, despite the fact that this Nation¹s own
scientific manpower is doubling every 12 years in a rate of growth more than three times that of our
population as a whole, despite that, the vast stretches of the unknown and the unanswered and the
unfinished still far outstrip our collective comprehension. No man can fully grasp how far and how
fast we have come, but condense, if you will, the 50,000 years of man¹s recorded history in a time
span of but a half century. Stated in these terms, we know very little about the first 40 years, except at
the end of them advanced man had learned to use the skins of animals to cover them. Then

Nietzsche s Genealogy Of Good Vs. Good Evil Morality
In this essay I will be discussing the topic of Nietzsche s contrast of Good Bad Morality with Good
Evil morality. The argument that I will be imposing is that despite Nietzsche contrasting view on both
Good Bad morality with Good Evil morality they are the same as it is just peoples view on them that
has led them to think that they are different from each other. In the first essay by Nietzsche in The
Genealogy of Morals, he explains both how the words good and bad become defined and how they
have changed over time through people s perception. I will use quotes to support my argument that
Good Bad morality and Good Evil morality is not contrasting but rather just the change in people s
perspective that has brought the false perspective of thinking ... Show more content on

In the second place, however: quite apart from the historical untenability of this hypothesis regarding
the origin of the value judgement good it suffers from an inherent psychological absurdity. The utility
of the unegotistic action is supposed to be the source of the approval accorded it, and this source is
supposed to have been forgotten. The quote comes to show that the word good itself has different
meanings according to one s psychological judgement as it is defined by the persons ego. The rich
have decided what is determined good and bad, therefore their opinion is contradictory as they will
present the poor people as being liars and bad in comparison to themselves as good and pure. In the
other hand the Jewish culture s formula of who was perceived good and bad was also changed as
opposed to the rich being the good, the poor who are alone were the good and the ones with god. This
shows that ideology of what is perceived to be good and band changes as those in power have a
difference of opinion on these moralities. Therefore, both these moralities are not contrasting but
rather the one and the same. Furthermore, When the power shifted to the priests good became pure
and impure became evil. This shows that good, evil and bad all these words had their definitions

plot. The original data plot shows a lot of noise and need to be smooth or reduce without interfering
the data features. The 5, 7 and 9 point Moving Average is plotted using the whiskey data (See Figure
1.1, 1.2 and 1.3). After the Moving Average were applied it seems most of the noise were reduced in
the plot and even though the peaks amplitude is different for each point of smoothing, the trend line

Essay about Baldwin s Writing Style in Notes to a Native Son
Father and Son: Bad to Regrettable James Baldwin is known to be one of the best essay writers in the
twentieth century who wrote on a few topics including race, discrimination, sexuality and most of all
his personal experiences. In Notes of a Native Son , he uses two main strategies to get his point across.
First, he likes to tell a story in a narrative view. Following is normally his analysis of the event. He
describes the event and then gives his theory on the matter. By doing this, he grants the reader a
chance to decipher the meaning. His interpretation may not be what the reader s is. He likes to argue
and provides the basis for his argument in Notes of a Native Son . Throughout the essay he talks about
himself and his father, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are stories he incorporates to illustrate the point. In the middle we move to a more self centered
narrative. He tells of his story in New Jersey where he realized he could kill someone. He shares some
of his thoughts of why people acted as they did towards him and others. This is an effective way he
uses narrating and analyzing to work for the reader s understanding. The essay goes into great detail of
his relationship with his father. He describes his father as cruel (65), bitter (65), and beautiful (64). He
does mention the bad in length. On the flip side, he tells us some of the good as well. Throughout his
storytelling, the reader gets a glimpse into his life and the way he feels. His feelings evolve during the
extent of the essay. In the stories he tells, the word hate appears quite frequently. It is sometimes used
about his father. I saw nothing very clearly but I did see this: that my life, my real life, was in danger,
and not from anything other people might do but from the hatred I carried in my own heart. (72) This
hatred he talks about exists towards his father. Other factors contribute too, but are not as often told.
The death had aroused feelings inside Baldwin that he felt he needed to get out. His contempt of his
father (63) lasts through most of the essay. Soon after this, we find out that Mr. Baldwin is sick and

Arlington s Journey
I believe that giving is greater than receiving. Being able to live in Johnson County is a blessing. We
have polite neighbors, clean streets, and fresh water. This past spring break I was fortunate enough to
travel to Arlington, Texas, with my youth group from my church. As a group, this would be our second
time traveling to Arlington for a mission purpose. As an individual, Arlington changed me. When my
youth group is traveling a long distance, we rent a couple of twelve passenger vans. Driving to
Arlington takes about ten hours, including bathroom stops and lunch breaks. Every time my youth
leader tells the group to go to the bathroom, no one listens. That is because we are teenagers and do
not have the best listening skills. One teen needed to take a whiz and could not hold it for much
longer. His solution was to relieve himself into a water bottle. This would be an interesting trip for
every single one of us. Arriving in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Apparently this was not the first time a church had ministered to her apartment complex. We provided
Rainbow Express for kids of all ages. We had a few babies and a couple teenagers showing up during
the week. Despite the age gap, we did our best to involve everyone. Even though these kids are
experiencing rough times, they still emit more loving energy than expected. These kids love you as if
you are their long lost sibling. They were not afraid to sprint up to us with their arms wide open.
Mission Arlington shows me how to love people you have only known for a week. This mission trip
transformed me on how I perceive life at home. Even though my youth group and I are back home, we
still think about the children at Eagle Crest quite often. We will return to Arlington next year for the

The combination of Thomas being a speaker, educator, and pastor also reveals his pedantic and
flamboyant tone that engages his audience. To motivate the younger generation college students
Thomas uses the ETA method. The Estimated Time of Arrival method (ETA) is to motivate and inspire
communities, organizations, and subgroups to grow ( About Para 1). Growing not as one, but as a
group allows everyone to transcend to their highest potential. Battling through adversity is a true
testament of the physical, physiological, emotional, and spiritual ability of every individual. Thomas
emphasized true pain and adversity in the ending of his speech establishing his appeal to ethos or
credibility as he uses an anecdote. I was homeless for two and a half years...and my mother kicked me
out as she said you have to grow up ( Motivational 11:19). Speaking amongst his personal story, he
engages with his audience by saying that he was homeless. To connect and engage with the audience,
Thomas showed that at first hand he knows how it feels to be at the bottom and struggle and in doing
so allowed the audience to feel compassion and sympathy, but as pain appeals to the audiences
emotions, Thomas juxtaposes the appeal of Pathos or motion with his appeal to Ethos and logos. ....it

Essay on America s Crime Fighters Need DNA Fingerprinting
America s Crime Fighters Need DNA Fingerprinting
Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is a chemical structure containing a base sequence. Base pairs are
genetic codes made up of four chemicals (Adenine, Guanine, Cytosine and Thymine) and each
sequence differs in every person. Because DNA is so complex and varies immensely in individuals, it
can be used like a fingerprint, hence the name DNA Fingerprinting. DNA can be found and analyzed
in blood, semen, saliva, hair and skin even decades old if properly stored. The process takes longer
than simple fingerprinting and is very expensive, but the results are almost perfect in determining
identity. While these tests are very accurate, there is a 1 in 50 billion chance that two people ... Show

Department of Justice. Today DNA testing is used regularly to convict criminals as fingerprints have
in the past. The Department of Justice states that in 1998, the FBI created the National DNA Index
System (NDIS), which currently links 42 states. Today there are genetic profiles for more than one
million criminals stored in this database, and soon all 50 states are expected to participate in the NDIS.
That is a great example of an effective use of DNA Fingerprinting and security.
Previously used only in research labs, DNA fingerprinting has become more common to the public.
Although mostly used for paternity testing, DNA profiling is reliable enough as evidence that
prosecutors are relying on it more and more to help convict suspects in criminal cases. One specific
example occurred in Goldsboro, North Carolina. A man known as the Night Stalker had committed
offenses of rape in 1990 to three elderly women. Each incident resulted in an attempt to murder the
victim; however, only two lost their lives along with one husband. One woman was fortunately saved
by the unusually early arrival of her daughter. The suspect planned to burn the residence to hide the
crime, but panicked and ran, leaving behind substantial evidence. A matching pap smear was taken
from each victim to cross reference DNA samples, but no suspect was known. This is where the NDIS
came into effect, adding a profile to North Carolina s database. After 10 years of

The Rise Of Team Management
Team management arose in Japan and Israel, after the development in North America, it broke through
the limitation of culture and spread worldwide. Management team is defined as the work of 2 to 20
members of groups, whose work tasks associated with each other s and jointly responsible for the
results of team work (Demaetto, 1997). The rise of team management can not only improve the

The turnover of top managers of a company is very important and may provide for the conflicting
results on the effects of the outsider succession (Karaevli, 2007).
However, in real life, because there is always a variety of difficulties need to be solved in people s
relationship, it is hard to find a perfect team. Then, the problem is how can we minimize the
differences and gaps, give full play to each team member s personal advantages, and maximize the
advantages of the whole team?
First of all, in the initial phase of building the team, manager should have efficient, reasonable
planning. Many of management tools can be used to simplify the team construction work. By
understanding of employees in depth, managers can define their team members advantages and
disadvantages, the likelihood of work and style to deal with problems, the difference of basic values,

The Importance Of Mutualism Between Animal And Animal Species
It is a kind of positive interspecific interaction in which members of two different species favor the
growth and survival of each other and their association is obligatory.
Species A = (+)
Species B = (+)
In this interaction, the members have widely different requirements and so interdependent that they
cannot survive separately. It is an extreme type of symbiosis in which symbionts have permanent and
obligatory close contacts.
1.Mutualism between animal and animal species
Cleveland (1926) reported the presence of a multi flagellate protozoan Trichonympha Campanula as a
symbiont in the intestine of white ant termite.
The ant provides food and shelter to the protozoan which in turn secretes cellulase enzymes to digest
the cellulose of wood ingested by the ant. Cellulose is hydrolyzed to sugars which are used by both the
partners.
When the gut lining of Termite is ready for molting, Trichonympha undergoes encystment and are
passed out with molting.
To ensure infection, the ant eats its molt. Newly hatched termites lick the anus of the older termites to
ingest the symbiont.
About 11 families and 40 genera of flagellates have been reported from the intestine of termites.
Ant aphid mutualism

inside their own nest. The ants use the digestive wastes of the aphids as their food while aphids in

Issues In The Waiting Room
The Waiting Room is a documentary about the truth of public hospitals. This film follows the patients,
and the staff of this ER waiting room, and how insufficient the system is for them. While we watch the
staff work as hard as they can to treat all the patients possible, we come to the realization that there is
a major shortage in the needed room space, and supplies to treat all of these patients in a timely
manner. Our healthcare system is very flawed in the way it treats the people in need, and there is no
way of knowing if there will be any major change to help these people get the care they need.

Because there is such a high number of people without insurance they usually don t get the treatments
they need, and if they do receive treatment, it usually follows a very long wait, and they are not the
best treatment. But most of these people have no other choice.
We get to witness the real struggle of multiple different patients, all with different levels of severity
for their visit. The first patient that stood out was a father who lost his job the previous year and didn t
have any health insurance for him or his kids. He had to take his very ill daughter to the public ER ,
and because she was on the lower side of severity, they had to wait for hours just to get seen by a
doctor. This story stood out to me because of the time a ill child had to wait just to get any treatment at
all.
Another story that stood out was the man who had to wait in a full waiting room with a bullet in his
leg. This man had a deadly object in his body and he still had to wait for hours just to be seen by a
doctor. He had to wait because the hospital had no room to put him in. Even if you re the first one to

severe your situation is, so they could have a patient waiting in the waiting room for many hours, just
so they can get a prescription of

Explain How Organisations Use Information
P1 Explain How Organisations Use Information
What is information?
Information is very important when used in organisations. Organisations need to have accurate and
quality information so the information is reliable. There is Date and Information, Data is raw facts or
figures that have not yet been processed, data is things such as times, weights, measurements and
scales. Information is data that is useable, such as TV listings, bus timetables. Etc. there are two types
of data, Qualitative date and Quantitative data.
Qualitative date involves date/information that cannot be measured in the usual way; this is because it
is spoken or written. So for example if an organisation did a survey and needed information on a

Benefits and Drawbacks of Primary and Secondary data
When collecting information and data, it can take a while and also needs to be done right, so that you
can read from the results and use them as valid data for you organisation. Secondary can be beneficial
for you and your organisation, because you get another organisation, it is therefore easier for you since
you don t need to gather all of the information yourself. This can benefit you in giving you more time
to focus on other organisations, but at the same time using secondary data can have a drawback for
you and your organisation. Since it is not you collecting and gathering all of the data yourself, the data
can be collected wrong, therefore can have a huge impact on your own organisation by having
incorrect data.
Primary data however is also good and bad, on the good side, you are gathering and collecting the data
independently, since gathering data correctly is important and cannot afford any mistakes, since this
can impact on your results you have gathered. This is why by doing it yourself, you can rely on
yourself to collect that data correctly. But, this can also affect you and your time, by doing this
independently with your business, you are using up time what could be necessary for you and your
organisation.

Amazing Grace Kozol Summary
In an excerpt from the book Amazing Grace:The Lives of Children and the Conscience of a Nation, by
Jonathan Kozol, he talks about people in the South Bronx, one of the most dangerous and diseased
cities in the west, which creates terrible living conditions. Kozol walks around the city with a seven
year old named Cliffie, who guides him and talks about certain places, sometimes making things up,
like how the incinerator burns bodies. After he walks around the city, Kozol talks with Cliffie s mother
in St. Ann s Church about the issues and the better things in the community. The excerpt ends with
Pastor Martha Overall who talks about how one of the founders of the United States, Governor

It was an extremely intricate process to handle and required enormous amounts of light to properly
expose. While it was the most expensive process available to Hollywood at the time, it yielded an
unequaled color quality. The studio chose the three strip process because it worked out well with black
and white stock. The framing of Dorothy s fantasy was processed in black and white, heightening the
effect of the Technicolor journey to Oz. The fact that the three strip process originated in a black and
white stock made this easier. For these reasons production occurred entirely indoors on the sound
stages of MGM. Because of the large set, as many as nine cameras hidden in bushes or potted plants
would be used to film one scene. The hidden cameras took close ups, while the main camera, used to
capture the whole scene, was on the end of a boom and was constantly moving. The extensive lighting
equipment necessary for Technicolor photography in 1939 is very apparent in these behind the scenes
shots. Banks of lights lined the floor of the stages and the catwalks above the actors and made the set
uncomfortably hot, especially for the actors wearing heavy costumes. Because the film was studio
bound, a lot of responsibility fell on the special effects department. Mattes were used extensively to
give depth to the Kansas landscape, and a sense of distance to the Land of Oz. Intricate trick
photography was employed to allow a

Pigs Slaughter And The Slaughter Of All Livestock
Hog slaughter and the slaughter of all livestock has been a controversial topic over the last few years.
With many organizations out there against animal agriculture such as the Humane Society of the
United States (HSUS) and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) there has been a
constant push to find the most humane act of livestock harvest as possible while still maintaining
excellent meat quality. Currently, there are four acceptable methods: chemical (Carbon Dioxide CO2),
mechanical (captive bolt), mechanical (gunshot), and electrical (electrical current). Currently, all four
methods are approved for the slaughter of swine. None, however, are ideal and all have advantages
and disadvantages in pork quality effects which leaves it up for discussion of which is the best system
to use. According to the Humane Methods of Livestock Slaughter Act of 1978, no method of
slaughtering or handling in connection with slaughtering shall be deemed to comply with the public
policy of the United States unless it is humane. Either of the following two methods of slaughtering
and handling are hereby found to be humane: (a) in the case of cattle, calves, horses, mules, sheep,
swine, and other livestock, all animals are rendered insensible to pain by a single blow or gunshot or
an electrical, chemical or other means that is rapid and effective, before being shackled, hoisted,

Why is kindness or altruism important for society?
Altruism may be defined as a basic selfless attitude that may attribute to those providing initial
intervention (Ronel, 2006).
For a society or community to thrive, prosper and grow minimum expectations must exist for the
individuals of that community to be happy. Rules and laws are in place to govern the ways in which
we should act socially, ethically and morally. Among such principles is an expectation to be fair and

the person must be aware of negative consequences and also must attribute some responsibility to take
appropriate action to persons like himself or herself. When people hold both these beliefs, they

Institute of Contemporary Art
Institute of Contemporary Art
How do you make a building for contemporary art that stays contemporary in the future without
stooping to a neutral language? And how do you attract a big public without compromising the selfish,
private, exclusive time we all want to have in a museum? These questions, put forward by Elizabeth
Diller of Diller Scofidio + Renfro, represent the urbanistic motivation supporting the construction of
Boston s Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA). In such a manner Boston s ICA engages, not only with
the urban citizen, but also the urban landscape in which the site is located. The ICA conveys the idea
of architecture as art in itself. As a presenter of art to the urban citizen and because of its open design,
the inside allows the citizens to not only appreciate the art within the building but also see the art of
the building s natural environment and setting.
Boston s ICA situated at Fan Pier in South Boston represents a shift from preconceived architectural
constructs to more innovative forms. The building s position in the middle of a currently undeveloped
urban landscape gives it a striking entity that engages the viewer in a way that facilitates its various
functions as a contemporary art museum. Furthermore its structure and location alter the population s
understanding of museum architecture as it has traditionally been defined, that it is a shell that
contains significant artistic work. A visual paradox becomes evident between

The Spanish Colonization Of Latin America
Because the Indians and Spanish lived in different areas in Latin America, the Indian culture and
society did not change significantly. Or did there society change? The Spanish colonizers had a huge
influence on the indigenous peoples of Mexico and Peru s, culture, language, traditions, religion, even
on their native food. One can say that this came into being shortly after Columbus discovered the New
World. The Spanish conquistadors, who sailed with Columbus to the New World, were the first to
leave their mark on the new territory. We still see some of these traditions in today s society. The
Spanish taught the Indians of their oral traditions of legends and jokes, music, food, beliefs, and
customs. The Indians even picked up on their native tongue, Spanish, and used it as their own and still
do to this day. There are many things in the Mexican culture which have contributed to the shaping
and molding of the modern Latino society, such as the Mexican history, culture, language, religion,
and traditions.
The Indigenous culture is not simply a blend of Mexico used to be, but the results of a unique
historical process that developed with an originality all its own. This culture was divided into many
different social classes after the Spanish took the reins. Like they started to develop a governmental
system for the Indigenous people and they started to tax them with the Bourbon Reforms. Many
Indigenous people hated the thought of this so they took matters in to their own

The Legend Of Faust Research Paper
To begin, Faust is a fictional scholar in literature who sells his soul to the Devil. The legend is loosely
based on an actual magician who lived in northern Germany during the fifteenth century. Faust was
once idealistic, but now disillusioned and bitter with despair. He foresakes God and makes a perilous
deal with the Devil in which he commits his soul to eternal damnation in return for power and
knowledge in this life (The legend of Faust from the Renaissance times, 2016). Faust has studied for
years without pleasing progress and loses his faith in his idealism. In his frustration, Faust becomes a
black magic sorcerer and beckons the Devil. The demon he summons is named Mephistopheles.
Together they make a pact in which the devil offers to serve Faust for a period of time, in return for his
soul and damnation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

simple steps today can help ensure that you and your family gain the maximum benefit from your hard
work and hard earned assets. By making the right estate planning decisions in your working years, you

1) Create a Will
A surprising number of successful people including doctors, executives and business owners lack a
basic will. Others forget to sign their wills or update them regularly. Make sure you have a basic will
and that your document is up to date, has been signed and notarized. In addition, make sure that your
executor has a copy that can be easily found in the event of your death. Without a signed will, your
estate will be settled according to state laws in your state of residence, which may or may not reflect
your personal wishes.

Essay on Gap Year vs Going Straight to College
Taking a gap year might be a personal consideration but in the end, is it really worth it? A gap year is
when students take a year off after high school and don t go straight to college. During the gap year,
people usually travel, works, or do something to promote their time off from education. Not many
people consider taking a gap year no matter how effective it might be. A gap year allows one to be
independent. It allows people to learn about themselves and what they want to do in their life. Gap
year allows one to add to their resume. You can see the world and get new life experiences, which is
an untradeable prize. On the other hand, going straight to college can have its advantages. Going right
into college can give one a head start ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, gap year is not as fantastic as it might seem. Gap year can make a student lose their flow of
things. They will not be so willing to study as they don t want to go back to the stress and rigor of
academic life. It takes the student away from classroom experience. Gap year means that the student
will lose a year of learning, of education. It makes you fall further behind your peers; this can put you
at a disadvantage particularly if one is going to med school or law school. Additionally some gap
years can be expensive especially if one is traveling. This could make college harder to afford. All in
all gap year has its pros and cons, but it s in the will of the student to say how fit it is for them. Many
students take this approach: they go straight to college; a lot consider this the safe approach. A large
number of students then are about the same age and have the same understanding of life and where
they might want to take it. Going to college after high school can help students finish their education
and career earlier than others. Students will be in the mode to study and learn. College offers training
toward a career, as well as a great education. Plus, studying abroad is available if a student feels as if
they need to travel. Nevertheless there are a couple of disadvantages of going straight to college. You
won t be able to discover the world, discover yourself.

Favor Of Abolishing Juvenile Court
Proponents of abolishing juvenile court claim that all crimes should be treated the same and children
are no exception. They also claim that because a punishment is supposed to fit the crime teenagers
who have committed high level crimes deserve to be tried as adults. Another popular claim is that the
adult court system lowers juvenile recidivism. What these individuals fail to see is the psychological
trauma that adult courts have on adolescents. Instead of being tried as adults, children should be tried
in juvenile because children s brains are not fully developed, there are flexible sentences, and juvenile
courts allow for more rehabilitation. First, children do not have the necessary brain development to

Proponents of the abolition of juvenile court fail to realize that even teenagers do not have the
emotional development to fully understand what is happening. According to Robin Nixon, adolescents
have an entirely new set of intense emotions which makes rational decision harder. She reported, Part
of the limbic system, the amygdala is thought to connect sensory information to emotional responses.
Its development, along with hormonal changes, may give rise to newly intense experiences of rage,
fear, aggression (including toward oneself), excitement and sexual attraction (Nixon). These intense
emotions cause adolescents to act irrationally. To say that teenagers have the emotional stability and
maturity to be tried as an adult is preposterous. There are many problems that arise when a child is
tried in adult court. These issues surface as emotional breakdowns, a lack of remorse, and even
aggression. The harsh environment of an adult court does not mix with a child s emotional needs.
Emotional breakdowns stem from nervousness and guilt while a lack of remorse stems from younger
children failing to understand what they did and aggression is an automatic response to what is
happening around these children. Instead of treating them as adults, the justice system needs to keep
the juvenile justice court in order to give these children a fair trial and rehabilitation. Second, children
should be tried in juvenile court because of the flexible

(Discredit) (Intro) Stories such as theses are fantastic tall tale, but it is not a true representation of the

narrative to the end. This transformation, though, affected multiple aspects of de Vaca, including his

history of America, as well as Spain, because it was one of the first accounts that revealed a certain

This decision of the governor was the turning point of the conquest, yet Cabeza de Vaca does not

Little Bit (mis)Judged
Throughout United States history, the nation saw many different presidents. Some terms were too
short to evaluate the legacy, and others had many events that led to a mixed legacy. It is always hard to
rank the presidents based on the greatest, the most impactful, or even the most overrated. Lyndon B.
Johnson, the 36th President of the United States, arguably had an impactful presidency, but he was
also a very overrated one. His domestic policy looks good because he addressed the Civil Rights at the
right time, but at the same time his War on Poverty left unanswered problems. His foreign affair was
dominated by the horrid Vietnam War, but he also played a part for the CIA supported coup d etats that
resulted in deaths of thousands of innocent people all over the world. In addition, Johnson did not
show strong, powerful traits that most presidents should have while he was in office. One major thing
that Johnson gets credit for is addressing the civil rights. He passed a couple of significant acts that
allowed civil rights to African Americans. This is seen as one of his positives during his term.
However, an argument can be made that this could have been accomplished during the Kennedy
administration. Of course, there is much evidence that Kennedy was in fact hesitant when it came to
civil rights issues, but the Cold War played a part with Kennedy s action. Timing did not help
Kennedy while he was in office. During his tenure, Kennedy had to deal

Changing A Company s Culture
Changing a Company s Culture
When it comes to corporate culture, there would be no better example than Apple Computer as how
change can take place based on the leadership of a single individual. This would be no other than
Steven Paul Jobs, better known to the world of Steve Jobs. Mr. Jobs was worth slightly over million
dollars at the age of 23. By the time he was 24 years old he was worth just over $10 million and by the
time he reached the age of 25 was worth well over $100 million dollars. A staggering difference in just
a three year period (Denning, 2011).
In the interview that was given to Robert Cringely in 1995 for a show that was going to air on the
Public Broadcasting System (PBS) entitled Triumph of the Nerds (Denning, 2011) Steve Jobs tells
how he created the culture at Apple from being different than the status quo. He speaks at length about
costs and how the accountants would never seem to see eye to eye with him when it came to cost.
What Jobs found along the way was that is just the way things were always done in the past but other
institutions and that was not going to be the case at Apple Computer. He knew he could do better and
change the way people would think even when it came to the accounting department at Apple (Jobs,
Cringely, Sen, 1995).
At the time the interview was given Steve Jobs was no longer working for Apple even though he was
its founder he had resigned from the company 10 years prior and many things have changed for the

  • 2. Essay about Methods of Characterization in The Hairy Ape Methods of Characterization in The Hairy Ape Eugene Gladstone O Neill was born October 16, 1888, to Irish American parents in New York City. His mother, Ella O Neill, reserved and genteel (Sheaffer 15), came from a prosperous Cleveland family. His father, James O Neill, from a poor family, was an actor who became synonymous with Dumas Count of Monte Cristo, a role he performed over 3000 times (Sheaffer 8). Driven by fear of poverty, James worked nonstop and constantly tried his hand at get rich quick schemes, such as buying and selling real estate. Eugene had one older brother James. In 1929, O Neill divorced Agnes and married Carlotta Monterey, his third and final wife. O Neill received the Nobel Prize for literature in 1936, recognition of his work as possibly America s most influential dramatist. Later in his life he developed Parkinson s disease which severely hampered his ability to write. In November 1953, O Neill developed pneumonia. Exhausted, he was confined to a room in a Boston hotel. Shortly before he died, he sat up and cried, I knew it, I knew it! Born in a [hotel room] and dying in a hotel room! (Sheaffer 24). He died November 27. The Hairy Ape (1921) chronicles the social snobbishness (Carpenter 31) Eugene O Neill encountered during his stints as a crewmember on passenger liners to and from Europe. For The Hairy Ape, O Neill took cues from the expressionists and employed [techniques] of anti realism such as the conscious use of symbolism, the use of masks, and other techniques which would suggest the sharp division between the surface reality and the subconscious mind (Carpenter 52). • 4. Holden Caulfield Explicit Language The story of Holden Caulfield, from the book Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, starts from from the point of view of Holden; where he is being treated for a nervous breakdown after being kicked out of Pencey Prep. for the death of his little brother Allie. While the book does have multiple instances of explicit language and suggestive themes, we think that the book is appropriate to be used in the 10th grade English curriculum. While it does have foul language and suggestive themes, kids in modern day High School have access to much more explicit and suggestive content. Also, even if it was written around the 1950s, both the difficulty and the timeliness is still relatively easy to understand and relate to. While there are numerous examples of swearing throughout the entire book; we think that the book is actually appropriate for the 10th grade curriculum. First, kids these days have access to much more explicit media with much more suggestive themes. Two, kids are much more influenced by mass media than a few years ago. Finally, kids in High School ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Almost everyone can relate to this novel due to it being about the hardships and accomplishments on a young adult s life. In many ways, the novel portrays a similar theme of a teenagers experience in New York. For example, when Holden is talking about is life in New York he claims I hate living in New York and all. Taxicabs, and Madison avenue buses, with the drivers and all always yelling at you to get out at the rear door (17.41 55). This quote portrays Holden s point of view on New York in general. • 5. Subway Is Testing A New Rebranding Campaign Overview On August 18, 2015, longtime Subway pitchman Jared Fogle was arrested under a child pornography investigation. Quick to respond, Subway communicated to press via public comment and Twitter on their stance. Hours after the arrest, Subway made public its separation from Fogle and its disgust and lack of knowledge of the crimes committed. Because of their quick response, while they were directly tied to Fogle, most of the negative response was placed on Fogle and not Subway. Moving forward, Subway is testing a new rebranding campaign in Australia that focuses on products, rather than a pitchman. Company History: In 1965, a 17 year old medical school student, Fred DeLuca, opened up a submarine sandwich shop in Connecticut on a $1,000 loan from a friend. By 1982, the chain had opened up its 300th location. In 1984, the Subway sandwich chain was introduced overseas and by 1990, there were more than 5,000 locations. Today, Subway has the most sandwich restaurants in the world at 37,000 locations (3). Known for their freshly baked bread and healthy options, Subway restaurants are located in schools, malls, gas stations, airports and even zoos. In 1995, the Subway began its journey towards becoming a major supporter of motorsports. In 1996, www.subway.com was launched and was featured multiple times in the movie Happy Gilmore (3). In 1999, an article was written about an overweight college student who lost a large amount of weight eating nothing but Subway sandwiches ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. A Speech On My First Lecture President Pitzer, Mr. Vice President, Governor, Congressman Thomas, Senator Wiley, and Congressman Miller, Mr. Webb, Mr. Bell, scientists, distinguished guests, and ladies and gentlemen: I appreciate your president having made me an honorary visiting professor, and I will assure you that my first lecture will be very brief. I am delighted to be here, and I m particularly delighted to be here on this occasion. We meet at a college noted for knowledge, in a city noted for progress, in a State noted for strength, and we stand in need of all three, for we meet in an hour of change and challenge, in a decade of hope and fear, in an age of both knowledge and ignorance. The greater our knowledge increases, the greater our ignorance unfolds. Despite the striking fact that most of the scientists that the world has ever known are alive and working today, despite the fact that this Nation¹s own scientific manpower is doubling every 12 years in a rate of growth more than three times that of our population as a whole, despite that, the vast stretches of the unknown and the unanswered and the unfinished still far outstrip our collective comprehension. No man can fully grasp how far and how fast we have come, but condense, if you will, the 50,000 years of man¹s recorded history in a time span of but a half century. Stated in these terms, we know very little about the first 40 years, except at the end of them advanced man had learned to use the skins of animals to cover them. Then ... • 7. Nietzsche s Genealogy Of Good Vs. Good Evil Morality In this essay I will be discussing the topic of Nietzsche s contrast of Good Bad Morality with Good Evil morality. The argument that I will be imposing is that despite Nietzsche contrasting view on both Good Bad morality with Good Evil morality they are the same as it is just peoples view on them that has led them to think that they are different from each other. In the first essay by Nietzsche in The Genealogy of Morals, he explains both how the words good and bad become defined and how they have changed over time through people s perception. I will use quotes to support my argument that Good Bad morality and Good Evil morality is not contrasting but rather just the change in people s perspective that has brought the false perspective of thinking ... In the second place, however: quite apart from the historical untenability of this hypothesis regarding the origin of the value judgement good it suffers from an inherent psychological absurdity. The utility of the unegotistic action is supposed to be the source of the approval accorded it, and this source is supposed to have been forgotten. The quote comes to show that the word good itself has different meanings according to one s psychological judgement as it is defined by the persons ego. The rich have decided what is determined good and bad, therefore their opinion is contradictory as they will present the poor people as being liars and bad in comparison to themselves as good and pure. In the other hand the Jewish culture s formula of who was perceived good and bad was also changed as opposed to the rich being the good, the poor who are alone were the good and the ones with god. This shows that ideology of what is perceived to be good and band changes as those in power have a difference of opinion on these moralities. Therefore, both these moralities are not contrasting but rather the one and the same. Furthermore, When the power shifted to the priests good became pure and impure became evil. Essay about Baldwin s Writing Style in Notes to a Native Son Father and Son: Bad to Regrettable James Baldwin is known to be one of the best essay writers in the twentieth century who wrote on a few topics including race, discrimination, sexuality and most of all his personal experiences. In Notes of a Native Son , he uses two main strategies to get his point across. First, he likes to tell a story in a narrative view. Following is normally his analysis of the event. He describes the event and then gives his theory on the matter. By doing this, he grants the reader a chance to decipher the meaning. His interpretation may not be what the reader s is. The essay goes into great detail of his relationship with his father. He describes his father as cruel (65), bitter (65), and beautiful (64). He does mention the bad in length. On the flip side, he tells us some of the good as well. Throughout his storytelling, the reader gets a glimpse into his life and the way he feels. His feelings evolve during the extent of the essay. In the stories he tells, the word hate appears quite frequently. It is sometimes used about his father. I saw nothing very clearly but I did see this: that my life, my real life, was in danger, and not from anything other people might do but from the hatred I carried in my own heart. (72) This hatred he talks about exists towards his father. Other factors contribute too, but are not as often told. The death had aroused feelings inside Baldwin that he felt he needed to get out. It is an extreme type of symbiosis in which symbionts have permanent and obligatory close contacts. 1.Mutualism between animal and animal species Cleveland (1926) reported the presence of a multi flagellate protozoan Trichonympha Campanula as a symbiont in the intestine of white ant termite. The ant provides food and shelter to the protozoan which in turn secretes cellulase enzymes to digest the cellulose of wood ingested by the ant. Cellulose is hydrolyzed to sugars which are used by both the partners. When the gut lining of Termite is ready for molting, Trichonympha undergoes encystment and are passed out with molting. While it was the most expensive process available to Hollywood at the time, it yielded an unequaled color quality. The studio chose the three strip process because it worked out well with black and white stock. The framing of Dorothy s fantasy was processed in black and white, heightening the effect of the Technicolor journey to Oz. The fact that the three strip process originated in a black and white stock made this easier. For these reasons production occurred entirely indoors on the sound stages of MGM. Because of the large set, as many as nine cameras hidden in bushes or potted plants would be used to film one scene. The hidden cameras took close ups, while the main camera, used to capture the whole scene, was on the end of a boom and was constantly moving. The extensive lighting equipment necessary for Technicolor photography in 1939 is very apparent in these behind the scenes shots. Banks of lights lined the floor of the stages and the catwalks above the actors and made the set uncomfortably hot, especially for the actors wearing heavy costumes. You re one of those people, you just need to understand that these people really aren t all that bad, and you can have friends here and enjoy their company. You just need to accept the fact that they are religious and have different views than you, but that s okay. Jeremy thought for a long time on this. I guess you re right, he said suddenly. • 30. Favor Of Abolishing Juvenile Court Proponents of abolishing juvenile court claim that all crimes should be treated the same and children are no exception. They also claim that because a punishment is supposed to fit the crime teenagers who have committed high level crimes deserve to be tried as adults. Another popular claim is that the adult court system lowers juvenile recidivism. What these individuals fail to see is the psychological trauma that adult courts have on adolescents. Instead of being tried as adults, children should be tried in juvenile because children s brains are not fully developed, there are flexible sentences, and juvenile courts allow for more rehabilitation. First, children do not have the necessary brain development to comprehend the court ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Proponents of the abolition of juvenile court fail to realize that even teenagers do not have the emotional development to fully understand what is happening. According to Robin Nixon, adolescents have an entirely new set of intense emotions which makes rational decision harder. She reported, Part of the limbic system, the amygdala is thought to connect sensory information to emotional responses. Its development, along with hormonal changes, may give rise to newly intense experiences of rage, fear, aggression (including toward oneself), excitement and sexual attraction (Nixon). These intense emotions cause adolescents to act irrationally. To say that teenagers have the emotional stability and maturity to be tried as an adult is preposterous. There are many problems that arise when a child is tried in adult court. These issues surface as emotional breakdowns, a lack of remorse, and even aggression. The harsh environment of an adult court does not mix with a child s emotional needs. Emotional breakdowns stem from nervousness and guilt while a lack of remorse stems from younger children failing to understand what they did and aggression is an automatic response to what is happening around these children. Instead of treating them as adults, the justice system needs to keep the juvenile justice court in order to give these children a fair trial and rehabilitation. • 32. Comparison Of Andrew Jackson And The Battle Of New Orleans (Discredit) (Intro) Stories such as theses are fantastic tall tale, but it is not a true representation of the real tale. (DS) This tale exaggerated a great deal about the details of the battle. Not to mention that it is also a one sided story that makes it feel as if the Americans lost barely any men. Furthermore, this story also brings a relatively unrealistic view of the military, as if they were a tangled grove of unkempt trees with many species (Dendrographia). In The Narrative of Cabeza de Vaca , Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca s fight for survival, while being deprived of the basic necessities of life, proves there is a change in him from the beginning of the narrative to the end. This transformation, though, affected multiple aspects of de Vaca, including his motives, character, and perspective of civilization. Cabeza de Vaca s experience is crucial to the history of America, as well as Spain, because it was one of the first accounts that revealed a certain equilibrium between the mighty and superior Spaniard and the Indian, once the Spaniard was stripped of his noble stature. The governor s ignorance of their advice led the expedition to move inland from where they were, and further toward the dangers and misfortunes that laid ahead. Cabeza de Vaca s suggestion to aboard the ships and look for better land elsewhere probably would have been a valid proposition looking back on it. The Spaniards would have avoided the rough estate and swampy grounds that caused them experience physical weaknesses that they were not accustomed to. • 34. Little Bit ( Mis ) Judged Little Bit (mis)Judged Throughout United States history, the nation saw many different presidents. Some terms were too short to evaluate the legacy, and others had many events that led to a mixed legacy. It is always hard to rank the presidents based on the greatest, the most impactful, or even the most overrated. Lyndon B. Johnson, the 36th President of the United States, arguably had an impactful presidency, but he was also a very overrated one. His domestic policy looks good because he addressed the Civil Rights at the right time, but at the same time his War on Poverty left unanswered problems. His foreign affair was dominated by the horrid Vietnam War, but he also played a part for the CIA supported coup d etats that resulted in deaths of thousands of innocent people all over the world. In addition, Johnson did not show strong, powerful traits that most presidents should have while he was in office. One major thing that Johnson gets credit for is addressing the civil rights. He passed a couple of significant acts that allowed civil rights to African Americans. This is seen as one of his positives during his term. However, an argument can be made that this could have been accomplished during the Kennedy administration. Of course, there is much evidence that Kennedy was in fact hesitant when it came to civil rights issues, but the Cold War played a part with Kennedy s action. Timing did not help Kennedy while he was in office. During his tenure, Kennedy had to deal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Changing A Company s Culture Changing a Company s Culture When it comes to corporate culture, there would be no better example than Apple Computer as how change can take place based on the leadership of a single individual. This would be no other than Steven Paul Jobs, better known to the world of Steve Jobs. Mr. Jobs was worth slightly over million dollars at the age of 23. By the time he was 24 years old he was worth just over $10 million and by the time he reached the age of 25 was worth well over $100 million dollars. A staggering difference in just a three year period (Denning, 2011). In the interview that was given to Robert Cringely in 1995 for a show that was going to air on the Public Broadcasting System (PBS) entitled Triumph of the Nerds (Denning, 2011) Steve Jobs tells how he created the culture at Apple from being different than the status quo. He speaks at length about costs and how the accountants would never seem to see eye to eye with him when it came to cost. What Jobs found along the way was that is just the way things were always done in the past but other institutions and that was not going to be the case at Apple Computer. He knew he could do better and change the way people would think even when it came to the accounting department at Apple (Jobs, Cringely, Sen, 1995). At the time the interview was given Steve Jobs was no longer working for Apple even though he was its founder he had resigned from the company 10 years prior and many things have changed for the worse at Apple ...
